Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right is Mojo in the morning, Shannon went on

(00:02):
a girl's weekend with a bunch of her friends. Now
all were married except for one.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Is single, right, yes, friend Carrie single.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Did you guys go out to any bars and like
hang out and stuff in town?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
So we mostly like kind of kept to ourselves, except
there is this one dive bar that is apparently famous
for the locals of Marco Island, and it's called the Sandbar.
It is nothing fancy whatsoever. They had a horrible DJ,
I mean just absolutely.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Background or are people dancing or what is it?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
No, people were dancing, people were drinking. But so there
were there were five of us total, like you said,
four of us married with kids, and then my friend
Carrie is divorced with kids, and she's a frickin bombshell.
So when you go somewhere with Carrie, it's like you
walk in and the music stops and everybody just turns
and stairs.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Yes, it's that. It's like a movie.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Scene almost, And so that's exactly what happened on Friday
night when we went to this sandbar this place, and
there was one guy in particular who was eyeing her
all night and at one point kind of cornered her
and proceeded to introduce himself by saying that he was
in the top one percent of wealth on Marco Island. Wow,

(01:23):
and Carrie carry spicy. She's spicy and sassy and also
truly does not care. And so she said, I really
don't care, was her response to him. This man had
steam coming out of his ears because you could tell,
apparently that he's used this line before. And I think
women just like fall at his feet, you know, and
want to like jump in bed with him, and she

(01:45):
just didn't give two crabs. And so he then he
started to talk about the car that he drove and
the condo that he had on the water and the
life he wants to give his wife some day, and
Carrie was just not having it. He kept getting more
and more pissed off. Were watching this and it's just hysterical.
And I'm thinking to myself, we were talking about this
on our way home, and like, do do guys who

(02:08):
do that realize? How do shee you come off? It's
not it's it's doesn't mean I mean maybe for some women.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
It must work.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Honestly, I would I would think it probably works, and
it probably works Honestly, I hate to say it for
uh these guys to date a little younger. Mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
I was gonna say the same thing.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
But the more guys that we didn't care.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, we just talked about him the other day. Oh yeah,
the guy at the New Day Foundation, like, oh yeah.
Then all he kept saying to me was how he
owned a nice condom and brush park and was like
an s VP of this. And now I'm like, I
don't care.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, I do like a little wealth management going on,
all right with that.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
I mean sometimes I feel like if that's all people can,
if that's all people have, or if they think that
that's their best foot forward, then that's what they're going
to show. If you think that your personality is the best,
that's what you'll lead with. If you don't have a
personality to back it up, you know.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Check that was me. I had to be the personality.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
I'm like, hang on, hold on, have you heard the
one about the two guys that walked into them, Like
I would have to try to make them laugh right away,
because that was the only thing. It was either one
of two things that would get me attention with girls.
Number one was they liked my Personality Number two was dimples.
For some reason, they would go, oh, you got dimples,
and I'd be like, hold on a second, let me
keep showing them too. They actually don't go away, believe

(03:30):
it or not. I know, I'm jeaing.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
That's what I would tell you speaking. This guy was
so botox.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
You could tell he was angry, but you couldn't really
tell because it's so much botox.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
And Florida is like this.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
When we go down and visit Joe, and we will
go out, like in clear Water, you'll go to places
for dinner and you'll see these guys pull up in
the valet with cars that I'm not lying to you
are more expensive than our homes. I mean way like
ten times more expensive than our homes. And they'll pull
up and they'll give thee the key. And then you
look at there's women that are kind of like because

(04:04):
they always have like outdoor bars and things. There's women
at the bars checking these guys out as they park
in the valet, and they must get it must be
the thing. And then I was talking to a single
buddy of mine. You know, my friend, a single. I
don't want to shout him out for this reason, but
he says when he goes down in the winter time
down to Palm Beach or West Palm Beach, he said

(04:25):
that tinder in Bumble and Hinge are amazing down there
because they all they look for are guys that look
like they have money.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
M m.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, so that's pretty wild.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
But this guy were like you, you're in the top
one percent of wealth and you're at the sand bar.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
This come on, Maybe that more men for you. But
you said that was the only place down there.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
It's maybe it's really it's really yeah, it's it's a
fun place.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
But eight four four Mojo Live eight four four six
six five six five four eight. Question for you about
your single uh, your single divorced front is uh?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Is she like she do?

Speaker 1 (05:03):
She does well? I mean she has her own job
and all.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
The rest of that.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Very successful and incredible mom to three girls.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Because I wonder sometimes how many women who are divorced
that with kids that maybe they had a bad divorce
and maybe they don't didn't do well, or maybe they
didn't work or they have a job.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
She does all of you, and she wants to, you know,
she wants to be married again some day.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
I wonder how many but I wonder how many how
many guys, by the way, I wonder what the top
one percent of Ferndale is what it's.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Got to be. It's gotta be up there.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, But I wonder though, if there are a lot
of women though that look at that, like divorcees are like,
oh good, well look at this. I can me and
my kids can get comfortable. What's up, Morgan?

Speaker 3 (05:45):
How you doing? Good? Are you guys today? Good?

Speaker 1 (05:48):
We want to hang out with some wealthy uh wealthy
boatox guys hang down in Marco Island.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
What's going on? I'm not in the top one percent
of anything, but I haven't listened to you guys for
a long time, so she a if you have single friends,
I have an awesome dog and I have at least
two bottles of wine that I got from my.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Cat.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Right there, Morgan, you are in the top one percent
of Mojo in the Morning listeners.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
We love you. Hey, let's go.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
By the way. That is the greatest pickup line I've
ever heard. Now, that's the personality that gets you like,
what's up, Ashley?

Speaker 3 (06:25):
How you doing?

Speaker 4 (06:27):
They're all being watched because those are the sugar daddies.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Ojo.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Absolutely, yeah, I see it here in town too. I
don't know, Ashley, where are you from? Okay, so you
know the Detroit area for those, and Grand Rapids in Toledo.
I know, we all have our areas that you know,
like East Grand Rapids for everybody there, and then Sylvania
and stuff for uh down in Toledo. In Birmingham, Michigan,
you go to any of these restaurants, and there is

(06:52):
a restaurant there that Chelsea and I ate at with friends.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
And I pulled up in.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
My blue Chevy Tahoe from Gordon, ever Lay and it
stuck out like a sore thumb at Big Rock in
Birmingham as guys were pulling up in Lamborghini's. I mean,
I've never First off, I didn't know Lamberg. I didn't
know Lamborghini made an suv. They make an suv. Range Rovers.
Range Rovers were like, honestly, they were like, Chevy's there.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Yeah, It's like that looks like the least expensive.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Drive, your fancy carr that you good for you. You
have a great job and you worked hard whatever and
you got it. But the fact that like this guy
was banking on that's all he wanted to talk about
was so gross.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
It's not only what your drive up is, like, who
are you when you get out?

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, well you see these guys getting out and they're
wearing clothes that, you know, honestly they probably are a
little too old for. And they're like and they're like,
oh but all real, like everything is like so tight
on them.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
It's amazing, it's amazing, unbelievable. I look at them. I'm like, man,
these guys you know crazy sugar daddy. Yes, I'm in
the market for sugar dad.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I wonder, I wonder are there sugar mamas out there?
Are there women that are like.

My college age son Luke. You go to college bars.
Every mom is like flirting with Luke at the college bars.
And I always jokingly say to Chelsea, go, what are
you going to do? One day if Luke comes home
and he's like, I'd like to introduce you.

Speaker 4 (08:51):

Speaker 3 (08:53):

Speaker 4 (08:55):

sure they do it for guys too.

Speaker 3 (08:59):

Speaker 4 (09:01):

Speaker 3 (09:03):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
