Speaker 2 (02:04):
Go, ladies and gentlemen. Mayor elect Mary Sheffield. I'm like,
how are you hey?

Speaker 7 (02:20):
Good morning? Good morning? I am I am great. Thank
you all for having me.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
We appreciate you on this the biggest week, making history
the first female mayor of the City of Detroit, breaking
the barriers down and making it that every girl that
grows up in this city can say, one day, I'm
going to be the mayor of the City of Detroit.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Did you wake up as a little girl thinking that.

Speaker 8 (02:47):
You know what?

Speaker 7 (02:47):
No, not at all.

Speaker 9 (02:49):
I definitely my life was shaped by service at a
very young age.

Speaker 7 (02:54):
But I never thought any at all.

Speaker 9 (02:56):
That I would become or want it to become the
mayor of Detroity, not until I was probably into my twenties. Yeah,
when I started thinking about running.

Speaker 7 (03:04):
For political office.

Speaker 9 (03:05):
But as you indicated, you know, you can't be what
you can't see. And to finally, after seventy five mayors
have a woman leading Detroit, I just think it's sends
such a powerful message to all of our youth, not
even just girls, but young boys and everyone that you know,
political office is something that you can think about doing
and there is a path to leading this great city.

(03:27):
So I'm excited to really, you know, shatter that glass ceiling.
But most importantly, I really want to deliver now and
execute for the residents of Detroit.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
What what are your first things that you want to
deliver with like, yeah, I know you had your promises
and all that.

Speaker 6 (03:41):
Yeah, but what well I would tell.

Speaker 9 (03:43):
You, I would see without a doubt, our neighborhoods are
my most important focus right now, whether it's starting to
activate more of our commercial corridors and bring the more
retail and amenities back into our neighborhoods, to developing and
building more affordable housing in Detroit. I actually just yesterday
got a call from former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Speaker 7 (04:03):
Which really blew my mind, and we.

Speaker 9 (04:05):
Talked about the office that I want to launch around
gun violence prevention and really helped drive continue to drive
down crime and Detroit. So hopefully we can get that
going within the first one hundred days. But we are
actually in the process now of what we call a
transition transition time, and we're going to be seeking out
experts in residents with different backgrounds to really help hone

(04:28):
in on what the first one hundred days of my
administration would look like, and we want to really have
it driven by the community. So if anyone who is
listening is interested in learning more about our transition period,
you can go to rise Higherdetroit dot com.

Speaker 7 (04:42):
You can submit your resume.

Speaker 9 (04:43):
You can join a committee and really help drive the
narrative in the agenda. For the first one hundred days
of my administration.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
I know it's got to be exhausting to run for
a political office. I mean it is NonStop. You are
out there. You are having to be up alert focused.
Did you take a day yesterday just to decompress a
little bit?

Speaker 7 (05:04):
You know what.

Speaker 9 (05:05):
I have not had a day off yet. And I
was laughing yesterday I was with the mayor.

Speaker 7 (05:10):
I met J T.

Speaker 9 (05:13):
Excuse me, a diamond who's over Chase Bank.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
He was chiding me diamonds.

Speaker 7 (05:16):
The governor, Yeah, was.

Speaker 9 (05:18):
Here, say they're moving their Detroit branch to the Husson's.

Speaker 7 (05:21):
Night's a big event that day.

Speaker 9 (05:23):
Yes, yes, So I didn't want to miss that opportunity
to meet him because I want, you know, our corporate
leaders to know how important it is for them to
continue to be invested in Detroit. So I feel like
there's always been, you know, things going on ever since
the election. But I do plan to get some rest
this weekend. But I'll tell you, I'm just so excited.
I don't my my energy levels are up. I just
there's so much work to do, and I have so

(05:45):
many people that are depending on me, that are counting
on me, and the weight of responsibility I feel just
allows me and gives me the inspiration to keep to
keep moving.

Speaker 7 (05:53):
So very excited.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
So I know that they call you mayor elect, chef
chef Okay, but I'm going to call you mayor Chaffield
because listen, you're the mayor, You're the mayor.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
But I'm gonna ask you. Have you said that out
of your mouth?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Like?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Have you said mayor Chaffield? Like as a have you.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Looked in the mirror and said, I am the first
female mayor of the city of Detroit.

Speaker 9 (06:14):
You know what, it is still surreal. I have to
be honest with you. Even yesterday I was out, everyone
was calling me mirror elect. It's just it is still surreal.
I really have not really been able to fully come
to grips that I am literally the mayor of de Trait.
So I'm sure at some point it'd all sink in,
but right now it still seems a bit surreal. Like

(06:35):
I said, I'm just deeply humble.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, Like I think, obviously.

Speaker 8 (06:40):
You have to be the right person at the right time,
and I do think you are the right person. You've
been in these streets, you've been in these buses, and
you've been making the impact at every level you've been
in political office. But as you said, and as the
reality is, you're the first female ever for this city,
obviously you're the right person. But what do you think
this says about our city that we're finally at a

(07:03):
place now where we can elect a female mayor.

Speaker 9 (07:07):
You know, I just think that times have changed, you know,
as you said, you know, this is just a different
time in our country. I think people are ready for change.
People want authenticity, and I've always tried to leave with
this being true to who I am. People also want
to elect some one that has delivered for them, and
they've seen me, as you mentioned, in the community, in
the streets, leading with by leading with compassion, and delivering

(07:30):
results for Detroiters. And so I think regardless of if
I was a man or a woman, I happen to
be a woman. I was the right person at the
right time for this job. I just happened to be
a woman. And I'm so glad that Detroit saw that
leadership has no gender.

Speaker 7 (07:43):
Right.

Speaker 9 (07:43):
It's about can you execute, can you deliver? And I
happen to be a woman. And so the support that
we got from men and women throughout this city was
just overwhelming. And I will say I think Detroiters believe
though that it was time for a woman to lead.
I mean we are pretty we're you know, pretty behind
with you know, because there are the other major cities
as it relates to woman leading, and so yeah, I

(08:05):
just feel like, you know, as the first woman, we
know also that there's a lot more pressure, a lot
more scrutiny that I would have to you know, endure unfortunately.
But I'm going to do my best to make sure
that we are setting a tone in the standard so
that women know what they can do here.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Leading into trait, there's something to be said about our
city in a time when there's turmoil politically everywhere nationally
and also in all the other cities. I mean, I
don't think there's a city where there's not turmoil. With
an election, you get elected mayor and the council pretty
much gets re elected by an overwhelming margin. That must
be said in a huge way that there's not Detroit's

(08:45):
got some stuff going on. And people say this when
they come to Detrade all the time that come visit
me from out of the city. You know, they hear
these stories about Detroit's rebirth. I love the idea that
we don't have that political crazy turmoil that's going on
in our.

Speaker 7 (09:01):
No. No, that's a great point.

Speaker 9 (09:02):
And we used to write there used to be this
adversarial relationship with the council and the mayor. It was
us versus them, with our regional partners or regional communities
or suburban.

Speaker 7 (09:12):
Communities, I should say.

Speaker 9 (09:13):
And then I think the mayor coming in really set
the tone. You know, this is not going to be
us versus them. This is not going to be council
versus the mayor. And then we had a new council
coming in as well at the same time when the
mayor was elected, and we all came in with a
just a different style of leadership. We may not always agree,
but we want to work together for the betterment.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Of our city.

Speaker 9 (09:33):
And yep, and I think everyone you know set that
tone and that spirit of collaboration, and that is why
we all got reelected because people saw progress in Detroit.
And you know, regardless of what you think, you know,
Detroit has moved forward in a tremendous way.

Speaker 7 (09:48):
But we still got work to do.

Speaker 9 (09:50):
Without a doubt, we have work to do and that
is why I decided to run. And now I'm ready
to ensure that it goes deeper into our neighborhoods and
reaches more families.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Ral has something very important to ask you and the show.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
What is that?

Speaker 7 (10:03):
Rock hal Pliers Cheffield.

Speaker 10 (10:06):
First all, congratulations, but I believe this is your first
time calling, and you have a line you have to say,
what is your first time calling?

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Yes? I don't know if you know this, Mary Alex Sheffield.
We do a thing on our show when people are
first time to the Mojo in the Morning Show, they
have to say, first time, long time. I don't know
if you've ever listened to the show. Have you ever
in your time ever heard Mojo in the Morning before?

Speaker 7 (10:27):
Yes, of course, of course.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Okay, so officially you are a first time long time
If you would like to say that, we'll give you
a huge shout out right now.

Speaker 9 (10:36):
Okay, yes, first time long time, Yes.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
I love it.

Speaker 9 (10:47):
But Mojo congratulations are in order for you, as will
being inducted into the radio holiday Thank you want to
say congratulations as well to you, and I hope that
we will build a good relationship my term in the
Mayor's office to come on and updated an.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
We're here, We're here in Eastern Market. You come by
any time. I'm telling you. We'd love that. And and uh,
you know, Mayor Douggan gave gave me the great honor
of giving me the key to the city.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Will the keys still work?

Speaker 7 (11:20):
Are you?

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Are you going to lows and changing the keys or
what's going on?

Speaker 7 (11:23):
I might change the locks and I.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Love it. We are so happy for you.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
And I will say this to you year when I
first moved to Detroit almost thirty years ago, your dad
was one of the first people that I got a
chance to sit down with. I think on the third
day that I was in Detroit, I got a chance
to meet your father, and I will say this, he
was incredible and gave me a history lesson on the
city of Detroit, and I thought that that was oh

(11:49):
my god, it was. Honestly, the two of us are talkers,
so you do not want to get two of us together.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
So all I appreciate you so much. God bless you
so much.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
Okay, have a good one.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
What a night, lady. I am really excited.

Speaker 6 (12:02):
Well, jo in the morning's Dirty on the thirty.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
All right, Channon with the dirty on the forty five.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Okay, all right, So and I got a lot of
stuff to talk about, important stuff.

Speaker 6 (12:10):
So first off, breaking dirty.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Thirty three flights out of Detroit Metro Airport are canceled
today because of the government set down, So make sure
to check your flight before you head to the airport.

Speaker 11 (12:22):
This morning, flight productions at forty major airports are beginning
to take effect. The FAA has ordered airlines to reduce
flights at so called high impact airports by four percent
this morning. That will gradually increase to ten percent of
flights by next Friday.

Speaker 6 (12:36):
Airlines not following the rules.

Speaker 11 (12:37):
Will be hit with a seventy five thousand dollars fine
per flight over the limit.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
This is going to be huge. So on a given
day in the US there might be one hundred to
two hundred flights canceled. This is going to be four thousand,
and mind you, it's not just canceled flights. Because of
these canceled flights, there's going to be thousands more delays
as well. And by the way, the ten percent is
just a starting point. They could ramped it up as
more and more controllers call out.

Speaker 11 (13:03):
The FAA says the air traffic reduction is needed for
safety because of the shortage of air traffic controllers and
TSA agents during the government shutdown. They're being forced to
work without pay and many are calling out sick. American
Airlines beginning today, will cancel about two hundred and twenty
of its six thousand daily departures. Delta is canceling one
hundred and seventy per day, and United fewer than two

(13:24):
hundred per day through Sunday.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
By the way, all those thirty three flights that you
mentioned are Delta flights. And it's understanding, well, it's because
it's a hub. It's a hub, there's adulta that's so
that's a deal with them. But they say that those
flights and the people that got the cancelation were moved
to other flights. So what I'm understanding is people are
not being stranded I will, which would not have happened

(13:47):
with Sperit Kevin. They would have said there's no other flights.
But if you go to there's a website called flight Aware,
you will be scared as hell. On a normal day
when there's regular flight you see how many planes are
in the air at one time. When you go to there,
it is unbelievable. There's still a bajillion planes. And when

(14:08):
you see in this day and age where all these
celebrities have like these private planes too that are flying,
they're affected too.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
You know a lot of these.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
You know, celebrities can't just be randomly flying from point
A to point BS.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
They got to get approval for flights.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Morgan Walling fans are in an absolute uproar over the
crazy ticket prices for his upcoming Still the Problem Stadium tour.
Pre sale prices had seats ranging from three hundred bucks
in the nosebleeds to more than twelve hundred dollars for
lower level seats pit access topped out right around nine
hundred dollars. I mean, who can afford to go to

(14:42):
a concert anymore?

Speaker 6 (14:43):
But the tourist fans.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Twelve major stadiums, two nights in nearly every city, a
massive opening lineup as well. But fans are calling on promoters.
They're begging at this point to please lower the prices
before the general sale opens today, arguing that diehards should
not have to choose between paying the rent and going
to see their favorite country music artist former NFL star

(15:07):
Antonio Brown has been arrested on an attempted murder charge
linked to a shooting after a celebrity boxing event that
took place in Miami.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Please say.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
Brown allegedly grabbed a gun from a security guard and
fired two shots at a man that he had been
fighting with earlier in the night, and one of those
bullets grazed this man's this victim's neck. The incident happened
back in May, and if you've been following this story,
Brown was leader detained by US marshals in Dubai. I
don't know why he was in Dubai, but before being

(15:39):
extracitled to New Jersey. Yeah, so he's in a massive
amount of trouble. Eighty four year old Nancy Pelosi announcing
she will not seek reelection, bringing an end to a
political career that has spanned more than three decades.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
I will not be seeking reelection to Congress. With a
grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of
service as you're proud represented as we go forward. My
message to the city I love is this this San Francisco.
Know your power.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
She is the first woman to serve as Speaker of
the House.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
President Trump sharing his thoughts.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
I think I'm glad she's retiring.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
That was crazy, He's any full woman, I'm glad she's retiring.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
And listen up real quick. If you are a Macha fan,
there is a fan.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Excuse me, there's a new warning that sweeping TikTok women
specifically are claiming the trendy green beverage that I just
can't seem to make myself like, but is.

Speaker 6 (16:36):
Making their hair fall out.

Speaker 11 (16:38):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
Dozens of women I've shared before and after photos showing
thinning hair and bald spots after adding Macha to their
daily routines, and many say they started drinking it for
energy or clearer skin, only to notice excessive shedding of
their hair a couple of weeks later.

Speaker 6 (16:56):
Now, experts say there's really no.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Solid evidence that Macha itself causes hair loss. The problem
may instead stem from over consumption of caffeine or like
nutrition imbalances. They're just saying, you know, drink it in
moderation and if your hair is starting to fall out,
then stopped her.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Michelle, are you there?

Speaker 10 (17:19):
Oh Hi, Yeah time Mojo, Michelle.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Your flight was canceled today?

Speaker 10 (17:25):
Yeah? Yeah, we found out last night that our trip
that we won with you guys was canceled. We won
it last May and it.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Was day to Florida.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Wait, so did they pop you on another flight or
did they give you an option for something else?

Speaker 10 (17:42):
There were there were two standby options. However, when Kelly
actually from visit Florida called us pretty much within the
hour of our cancelation last night, and she told us
suggested basically that there is just no way that will
probably more devastated going there and waiting for them just

(18:03):
to say that we're not getting on it.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Okay, So they're gonna they're gonna make that trip up
for you at a later time.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
I'm sure, right.

Speaker 10 (18:10):
So she's gonna call later today and we're gonna talk options.
But the thing is it does expire, you're.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Gonna so we'll figure.

Speaker 10 (18:19):
Yeah, we're keeping our fingers crossed for sure.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Where were you going, Pampa? Okay? So I'm gonna tell
you something. You got.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
You got blessing in the skies. I know you took
time off. Did you see what the weather's like in
Florida right now?

Speaker 10 (18:32):
Uh? Well, I think it looked pretty nice last I looked,
but I didn't know I didn't really look.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
A weg So there they were talking this morning on
the news about there's some kind of like a cold
freeze or something like going on that's making its way
down south. So I don't know if it was hitting
the Tampa area, but we'll make sure that we make
that up for you and make sure that you get
you get your flight.

Speaker 10 (18:53):
Yeah, by the way, goods.

Speaker 8 (18:56):
If you want to leave on Monday, Spirit has a
flight for eighty one dollars.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
They'll get you there.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
For the free trip.

Speaker 8 (19:04):
You're saying, this guy, this guy, let me ask you,
would you rather fly Spirit or Delta. I'd rather get
there Delta rather well ALTA while you sitting now, yeah,
well I know.

Speaker 7 (19:16):
But at least it's free.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Absolutely, I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't want
to even fly at this time. I know this sounds weird,
but with these guys that are, you know, not getting
paid and they're exhausted working, I just feel weird even
flying at this time.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
All right, well, hold on, hold on Lydia.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
