Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh, John in the morning. I love this week working.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I know a lot of times radio shows will take
off this week and use this as like a week vacation,
like Christmas. I like working this week because this is
the week that everybody comes back home, and so I
like to work and be able to like have some
of the people that have left the you know, Detroit
(00:23):
stations here that work for iHeart, you know, come back
in and visit and say hi. And one of them
is somebody here. I'm the most proud of her of
anybody that's ever worked on our show. I don't even
think Kevin and Anna you even know who Jen is.
I know, I know that that Channon and myself and
Lydia especially you've helped Lydia and stuff. Jen Sowala worked
(00:45):
way back when on this radio show, back in what
year was it? Oh my god that Chad was here right, yeah, yeah,
two thousand and four. This is one of my favorite
stories ever. Jen started as a therapist my son Joe
from the Joe Show. Remember that way back when? Where
was that like ann Arbor or something like that, or
(01:05):
where's that office at? I remember we drive I'd have
to drive in Chelsea and I recommend it. Yeah, you
recommended this place. But Jen actually was like, because Jen's
background is she's a therapist, now she's in radio, tell
me that she doesn't need therapy for that, right, So
Jen recommended. Jen recommended for Joey to go to this therapist.
(01:26):
And then Jen helped me and Chelsea kind of like
navigate through it. And then Jen in turn started working
on the radio show here and uh started off. She
actually was like literally had like a full career going,
but was like, this isn't what I want to do.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I've always wanted to do.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
This has history of working in the entertainment business because
her sisters worked in entertainment for a long time. Her
sister was actually Doctor Phil's producer. From anybody still is
Doctor Phil's producer? Yes, yeah, that's wild. Jen Swala is
visiting her family back here home, all the family and
broad her beautiful son, which I can't believe.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
How thirteen thirteen, Oh my god, thirteen quarterback great hair?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Okay, you know here he reminds me of a look
like Joey's. Joey's best friend growing up, wash Or Luke's
best friend growing up was Dylan Rayola.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
He looks like Dylan. You look a lot like Dylan
who plays for Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So all right, so Jen, real quick, I want to
I want to talk about this when you come home
and you come back because Jen now works. For those
who don't know this, Jen now works with Ryan Seacrest.
What without without Ryan Seacrest? Ryan has nothing Without Jen?
Ryan without Jen without Ryan.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Are actually without Ryan. Ryan does have nothing.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
But without Jen, he is a huge. We have a
huge team.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Really, we bigger than our team. They tell us our
team is big.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
We have a pretty big team.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
How many people are on the Ryan Seacresh.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
There used to be twenty two?
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
U used to be Yeah. Now with all of the shows.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Probably about twelve.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Wow literally for a wow. Okay, So he'said and Ryan.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So Ryan's got uh, He's got the radio show that
he does live in uh uh Los Angeles for Kiss.
Then he has his radio show that he does on
all the iHeart stations.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
That is like in mid days midday drive time.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Ryan what is it called?
Speaker 2 (03:31):
With Ryan Seacrist, And then he does American Idol, he
does Wheel of Fortune, he.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Does Top forty American Top forty Countdown, and he does
the New Year's Countdown, I've seen the promos already.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
For that he'd direct from Hollywood?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Is he tell? Yeah? Tell me? Is he ai?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
We know he.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Is an incredible human being.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Number one, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
He is so kind and probably one of the best talents,
one of like that I've ever worked with in all
of Los Angeles in New York.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Yeah, that high level.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Well, he's probably to me, it's to me, he's I
would rank Ryan Seacrest up as probably the five best
that has ever worked in entertainment, like like Dick Clark,
and he is.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, he is at that level.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
And he's grounded, He keeps himself. He can people can
resonate with him. He really is grounded. Yeah, and he
can connect to me.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
It's weird that you know, you think about it, like
when you sink of Ryan Seacrest, Like, right, he's a
guy that would walk down the street and everybody would
go holy you know, did I say it or no, Holy,
it's Ryan Seacrest And they would look at it and
they would see and they'd be like, holy crap. Like
he's like that big of a guy. Absolutely, but he
doesn't walk around like he's that big guy.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Right.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
No, Yeah, he's incredibly grounded.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Wow, what do you do with Ryan?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
So I oversee the syndicated show American Top forty, the staff,
all of the branding, yeah, and ads. You know that
you guys do as well. I approve those and then
work with the staff and content. I want to give
Mark m. Malyinsky a shout out. Yeah, he's the EP
(05:25):
of the local Kiss morning show. He's incredible. Yeah, you know, Biata,
we have a great team.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Okay, one more question from you. How did they steal
you from Mojo? Oh?
Speaker 1 (05:38):
She left to go to Phoenix, right to go?
Speaker 3 (05:40):
I left to go work for a radio station in Phoenix. Yeah,
it was an alternative station and they switch formats. So
I moved to LA and got a job on the
Tyra Banks Show. And that's when I started my TV career.
And I'm fourteen thirteen years ago.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
I went back to radio. So cool when I had
rock Jen.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
So by the way in Rocco.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
By the way, seriously, you are way cooler than Ryan
Seacrest and you're gonna be Mom's future. So you better
be throwing that ball with a perfect spiral, right, little postion,
big magie.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
The funny thing was with Jen was back in the day.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
This radio show has evolved over time, Like I always
said that, we've kind of we've gone through the whole,
like you know, just starting off to then all of
a sudden starting to kind of like okay, people are
starting to like us to the levels that you know
we go to. Jen came into this and this was
kind of like your start of doing it. And Jen
(06:47):
brought to the show more knowledge to us from a
person because we used a perspective of her background, Like
you know, the the idea of making the show more
real and less bitty is kind of the thing that
we did with you, so which was actually really really cool.
But what else do you want to know about Ryan
Seacqushian And do we know I need to know anything
(07:07):
like that? I mean, I he posted a video over
the weekend of himself like working out.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
I saw that. Did you see my comment that No,
I did.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
It books incredibly.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I mean, he's not working out himself, He's got somebody
that helps Ryan.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Ryan says, Also, I'm about to feel better.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Ryan wrote in this caption, he goes, don't he goes,
don't be fooled. I'm wearing a shirt that's two sizes
too small, and.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
I wrote on there was muscles. I've always worn a
shirt two sides. I don't know what I look like that.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
So does he give good holiday gifts for his staff?
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Is my question?
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Yes, of course he does. He is so generous.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
What's the biggest gift that he's ever given you, guys
for a holiday gift?
Speaker 4 (07:48):
I can't say that on there?
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Say it off there, so Mojo hears you, very very generous.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Has he ever given anybody a car? Has he ever
done that at all?
Speaker 4 (07:58):
That I know of? But we don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
She's not broadcasted.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Yeah, she would never say it.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
This year, I'm giving Kevin a Rolex. He's getting a Rolex.
I got it. I got it off the streets and
face actually I got I got him a fake or
mez perse from that guy at the Summer scond.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
I'm gonna give it to Josie. No, she knows the difference.
She does.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Can I say something about Jen and this is not
me saying this in front of Roco. The other thing, too,
is she does this and has a mom and is
a great mom too, right, she treats. I don't know
how you do it. I don't know how Shannon. I
say this about Shannon all the time. I don't know
how Shannon deals with when the kids are sick and
then you have to do like you think about how
Ryan seacrest schedule is. She's got to keep Ryan seacrest
(08:48):
schedule together. And then Rocco gets sick or whatever the
deal is. Davida come in, look at you remember Davida.
Oh my god, Jen, you know see this. Everybody's good
and and uh, Bianca, where did you run into Emily?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
You saw Emily yesterday or this weekend?
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, I was at Somerset Mall, shopp around at Macy's,
right into Emily's.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Emily Scholars in town. Everybody's in town. Yeah, that's right,
we're all coming back home. You know.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
My favorite thing with Thanksgiving always used to be going
back home because Detroit's my home, but Chicago's.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Where I grew up, was born and raised.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
I loved going back to Orland Park, Illinois, going to
Micky Doom's pub and we'd hang out. That was like
the Bowling Alley place that we would all hang out
and going and seeing how fat everybody got.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
My god, Now I'm doing a g l P one
or whatever.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
It's called, and man, I hope I'm the skinniest when
I go back for the holidays this year.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
So ain't only given?
Speaker 2 (09:52):
What is? Where is the place the local place and
that you would go to with your friends with the homies.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, you might go to honest John's.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
We just used to go to people's homes though, to
be honest with you, where was the gross seal place?
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Did you guys have like a dloydsloids? Yeah? What about
White Lake? I feel like we went to overtime in Waterford? Okay,
you never went to Billy's tipping in.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
I mean not for that kind of vibe.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
I feel like cheese logs they have they ever see it? Seriously,
their cheese logs they have there, They're not trying to eat.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
All right, I got Jen Sowala. It's great to have
you back. I love that you're here, and no joke.
Jen is one of my closest friends in this business
but out of this business too, Chelsea and I love
Jen like like literally, like she's a sister.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
So thank you.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
We're going to be right back. Look at this hold on.
Ryan's gonna get us to the break.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Hey, guys, just write Seacrest from American Idol and people
of Detroit you voted, so more Mojo in the Morning
Coming up next,
