Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Mojo in the Morning. Have you ever thought that

(00:02):
you were going to die? I want to talk about
this real quick, because yesterday I literally thought I was
going to die, because.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Like that came out of nowhere. I ever thought you
were going to die? Next on the Mojo in the
Morning show. So I was driving home.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
I went to Chicago this weekend to go visit my
son Jacob, and as I decided that I was going
to wake up really early and I was going to
just hit the road so I can get home, sit
on my couch, get some stuff done, you know, this week,
and then watch football.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
So I got up, took a shower.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Boom, I was on the road probably before the sun
even came up. That's how early I got on the road.
And if you've never done the drive to Chicago from
wherever you are, if you're in Toledo, or if you're
in Grand Rapids or Detroit, my drive is I take
that Skyway, which is the cut through in Indiana there

(00:57):
through Gary, and then I get to ninety four and
I take ninety four literally shoot all the way to
M fourteen and then drive to two seventy five and
then M five and I'm not giving you my home address.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
What am I doing? So?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I'm driving and I looked at the weather ahead of time,
and I looked at the weather in Chicago it was
just cold. I looked at the weather in you know,
Michigan it was still cold. And I looked at the
weather you know, at my house, and it was even colder.
So long story short, I'm driving there and everything's fine.
All of a sudden, I hit Portage, Indiana, and as

(01:29):
I hit Portage, Indiana, there's some snowflakes. I'm thinking, this
ain't so bad, no problem, everything is good, and I
forget because I don't live like Mike does in Grand
Rapids or anywhere in Chicago near the lake you can
get some lake effects snow, And all of a sudden,
out of nowhere, I hit New Buffalo, Michigan, which is
the Hampton's of the Midwest. I hit New Buffalo, Michigan,

(01:52):
and I cannot see anything in front of me.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's so scary.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
I'm not kidding you, guys. I literally was went from
driving sixty miles an hour to I was driving fifteen
miles an hour. And then I put my blinkers on
because I thought the people behind me aren't gonna be
able to see me. I can't see you in front
of me. I got the windshield wipers blowing on both
sides of this car, and I'm going off of this
Honda Civic that's in front of me, and we're driving

(02:19):
the whole way for the next It seemed like two
hours because it was that way from all the way
in Portage, Indiana, and New Buffalo, Michigan, and Michigan City, Indiana,
all the way to Battle Creek. I had lake effects
snow the whole way, and I Am not going to
lie to you. It would let up for about five

(02:40):
minutes and I'd be, oh, great, but there's still snow
on the ground. And I'm still, like, you know, going slow,
like going maybe forty five miles an hour, which's normally
like a seventy something mile an hour zone.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
And then all of a.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Sudden, a huge snow squall would hit again, and I
would be like, holy crap, and my back is hurting
me right now. That's what Anna was giving me crap for.
She goes, I said, any of you guys ever had
that where you're so tense driving that your back hurts?
And she goes, I'm not that old. Well, you know what,
wait till you're that old. Not gonna lie to you, guys.

(03:11):
I was so stressed out. It had nothing to do
with anything other than that. I was like this the
whole time. Oh, and I thought I was going to die.
And I thought to myself, I'm like, oh, Chelsea one
time told me she had to drive through this, and
she said that afterwards she was telling somebody that. And
you have to tell me, if this is the case,
you should never try to get off the highway when
this is happening, because that's where the accidents happen, where

(03:32):
people try to pull over and they don't realize that
they're not pulled over and a car comes and hits them.
So you got to keep on going like you cannot stop,
and you can't even see the exit and entrance rams
like there's nowhere to see them. You don't even see
really overpasses until you're under them. And so I did
this drive and I literally thought I was going to die.

(03:54):
I did four times the entire time where it was
so bad. I was like, God, please, whatever you do,
don't take me. I don't want to you know, I
don't want to die. I don't want to die, and
I was so scared. And it got me thinking because
right after I got done with it, we got to
Battle Creek and we drove through where it has the

(04:15):
big sign there on the overpass, and it was done.
It was clear, and I thought to myself, Oh my god,
I'm calling my wife to tell her I love her,
and you're like, yeah, Like I felt like I felt
gratitude at that moment that I had to like give
a sense of gratitude to like the people that I love.
And so I called her up right away and she
picked up the phone and she's not feeling well. She
she was sick this weekend. Kevin gave her the phone.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Don't do that.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Don't do I heard and I and she was like,
what's going on? Like I told her, I'm like, I
can't believe this. And it got me thinking. You know what,
I'm going to bring this up as a topic on
the air and ask the question of our listeners. Were
you ever in a situation where you thought you were
going to die? What was going through your head at
that time that you thought you were going to die,
and what was like the first thing that you did

(04:59):
right out afterwards? Because really, right after this whole thing
was over with, I started thinking to myself, I'm like,
I need to be thankful for what I have and
the fact that I had a vehicle. Thank you Mike
Porter at Gordon Chevrolet for selling me a Tahoe that
got me through this. I mean, I was petrified the
entire time, and I'm not gonna lie you think that

(05:20):
you're not seeing anything. The only thing I'm seeing are
lights up in the air as cars are off on
the side, yeah, pointing down into the ditch because they
slid off the road.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
It's literally been in that same situation making that same
drive home when my sister lived in Chicago. It was
New Year's Eve. I wanted to get out of the
city before the craziness happened, and everything was fine until
I left the city, and it was that same situation
where I was going home, and I think I prayed
for three hours straight.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
It's scary.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
That is a very scary driveway, saying.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
The truckers are driving still at a fast speed and
they can't see dick.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
You know what. I I don't know how they're driving
like that.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
For Mojo Live eight four four sixty six five six
five four eight what's up, Lucy.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
So I just came back from Buffalo, New York. It
jo through Canada. Yeah, it was the scariest drive of
my life. Yeah, it took extra four hours to get home.
I'm watching cars just fly off.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
The freeway like and it was one of those oh my.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
God, just get me home situations were you were you
offering up that you will be a better person if
you get through this whole thing.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
I came home and kissed the ground.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Oh yeah, yeah, I I honestly I was.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
I watched the summer.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
We sat on the freeway for forty five minutes because
the semi caught on fire.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
And that drive, by the way, it's a new joke,
you know.

Speaker 7 (06:49):
Buffalo and I'm in a foreign country.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Yeah, Buffalo taking the Canadian route. You're already a little
disheveled because you are in a foreign country and you
you know, you don't know the route. Maybe, and that
weather can get really really snowy, really really fast. Yeah,
and it was.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
It took me four hours to get there.

Speaker 7 (07:09):
It took me eight hours to get home.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Oh crazy.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
But at least he got home safely.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Yeah, I'm glad you're here with us. What's up the trees.

Speaker 8 (07:15):
How you doing, good morning, I'm doing fine.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 7 (07:20):
Happy holidays, you guys.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Have you been through this?

Speaker 4 (07:26):
Yes, I was taped.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
My daughter came down for Thanksgiving and she was going
to Michigan State. The baby girl made a mistake and
filled liquid on the daughter's computer, you know, the one
from Michigan State. So I had to drive her back
to Michigan State. In the process, I'm driving next to
us semi truck and it seemed like the sky just
opened up and we had a complete white out, and

(07:50):
I was praying because the car got the fork and
the damn truck was next to me. I was scared
for my life. Yeah, and my daughter still brings that
up to this day, Like Mama, that was the scariest ever.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
And you know what, I'm never in my life want
to be in a white out again. In driving ninety six,
when that happens, where it's just a straightaway and there's
farms on both sides of the road, there's no lights anywhere,
you don't know what's happening.

Speaker 6 (08:14):
Exactly, and it.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
Was it was so scary.

Speaker 6 (08:17):
I saw my life flashed before my eyes. But I
had to give my daughter back to Michigan State show up.
I just got up off the got up off the
gas and let it coast and wait until the white
out disappeared.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Shout out to moms that will get in the car
and put their life on the line to get their
daughters back to school for their computer.

Speaker 6 (08:35):
You know they can't work. That was dope And she said, Mom,
I can't.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
I need it.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah, Mom, I missed that assignment. I take care of
your So what's up, Vanessa? How you doing good?

Speaker 9 (08:56):
How are you good?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
You were in the same spot that I was.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
So we were coming home from Chicago and the weather
said it was going to be clear skies you know
of nowhere it hit and it was like you could
not see anything in front of you at all.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, it's scary, it really is.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
It was like we were I said, the counting cars.
There was like at least fifteen cars in like every
like quarter of a mile and dishes. It was crazy.

Speaker 10 (09:26):
What are you supposed to do any situations? Are you
supposed to keep driving? Are you supposed to pull out?

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Just said, you gotta keep going.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
And that's the thing in the truck, Like the truckers
make it worse because they just keep driving fast.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
You know they don't they don't want to drive behind it.

Speaker 5 (09:42):
Really, Yeah, they were driving so fast. I was like,
should we pull over our mouths? I was like, no,
you just gotta go slow and keep moving to knock
not at all.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
This is when like the fifty car pile ups happened.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yes, I'd like to know if there's anybody who's had
one of those near death experiences or almost moments. Anybody
ever in with somebody that had a gun, anybody ever
been where like we're not just cars, Like I'm talking
about where you're in, where you're in it, like where
you're like, God, just get me through this whole thing
or whatever, or you know, uh, something other than just

(10:15):
even the driving part, because I've experienced that.

Speaker 10 (10:18):
I met hot before. I'm sure we all have been.
I was on the back seat, Colin KEI was in
the front. We was so below I was at the
vack seat. I felt like I heard my heart outside
of my body. I'm like, God, please just make me
through the night. That's what a god. I never smoked
a guess what a god do whatever you gotta do
to give you a situation.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Did you ever smoke? Again?

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Absolutely? Paul almost choked to death.

Speaker 8 (10:42):
What happened, Paul, My wife and daughter had cut up
some watermelon. We went to a friend's house and I
decided to start eating one, and I guess while I
was trying to swallow in inhale at the same time,
it got lodged and I literally was like gassing to

(11:03):
try and inhale. And I looked at her friend in
straight panic mode, like please help me, while like trying
to gasp for air, and she didn't. She couldn't do anything.
She was in panic. My girlfriend came and started giving
me the Heimleck and that still wasn't working. I literally
thought I was going to die because the police were

(11:24):
not going to come in time. I'm literally struggling to
gasp for air, and for some reason, I decided to
start drinking water and chugging water, and that's what that's.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
What I would think to do.

Speaker 8 (11:38):
But thank goodness, you did that, and my entire body
literally was soaked. It literally looked like I had jumped
out of a swimming pool. I was literally so scared
and thankful at the same time that I'll never eat
watermelon again.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
It's wild, you know, and out of all things to
die eating watermelon, you know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
Not even worth it.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
I haven't touched citizens Nope.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah, I mean Ruth Chris maybe, but watermelle geez. Brittany
blacked out and hit her head, almost dying. Where were you, Brittany.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
I was actually at the Intersection and Grand Rapids, enjoying
the Bryce Vine concert, okay, and all of a sudden,
I just was feeling absolutely terrible. I told my friend
something was wrong, and I, uh, just I went to
fall forward and she grabbed me, and then I ended
up sliding down our table and I hit my head

(12:35):
on the foot rest of the bar table, you know,
the big round metal thing that goes around. And I
was fully unconscious and I woke up to my friend screaming, Brittany, Brittany, Brittany,
and I ended up with a concussion, so like my
pupils were pulsating.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
And it was really bad.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
I thought I was gonna die and it was terrifying.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
That's the worst. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
I've heard of people that have said that they've had
that where they got hit in the head and they
passed out and they remember some other thing that they
were at, and then they wake up where they're at
and they're like, oh my god, Like we're almost kind
of like they dream what is happening, or they have
like a near death moment. Kay is the one that
I was looking for. Kay, what happened to you?

Speaker 9 (13:21):
So we were me and my boyfriend. We were on
our way to work. We worked at the same place,
and we stopped to get gassed, and this guy jumped
out and robbed us that gunpoint and my four year
old daughter was in the backseat.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
I was freaking out.

Speaker 9 (13:36):
I was just like, take whatever you want, just don't
hurt my baby.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Just don't hurt my baby.

Speaker 9 (13:42):
I thought.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
I was terrified.

Speaker 9 (13:46):
I've never been more scared of anything before in my life.
And I know it was just because she was there.
I don't know, like I think when my boyfriend went in,
he I used to tell him all the time, so
I'm taking all your money out to pay it. He's
a little older brain. I don't know what he was thinking.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
But the guy just jumped out of nowhere, like off.

Speaker 9 (14:08):
Between the side of the building and the trash can
and just pulled out a gun and caught us as
he was getting back in the car with the car
door opened.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
But he finally obviously went away when he saw your daughter, he.

Speaker 9 (14:23):
Did yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, No, he took what he
wanted and then just ran. Okay, Wow, it wasn't any worse,
but it was bad enough just being in that situation.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
I was horrified, and and you're in literally you're praying
to God please get me through this thing. Hold on
a second, Kim was abducted.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Oh that's my worst fear. What were you doing, Kim?

Speaker 9 (14:48):
So?

Speaker 4 (14:49):
I happened to live.

Speaker 7 (14:50):
In Florida when I was eighteen years old, and I
was My car broke down and so I was hit shriking,
and a gentleman had picked me up, and so he
was talking to me about his family, so good ten minutes.
He seemed pretty normal. But he pulled me into the
Orange Groves in Florida off the freeway, and I knew

(15:12):
that wasn't the way.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
To my house.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
So what happened was I fought for my life. I
kicked his windshields, I kicked his dashboard, I kicked the
side of his car, and he ended up driving me
out of the Orange Grobe and I was safe.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Wow, I thought, how long was the whole thing?

Speaker 6 (15:30):
Like?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
How long were you taken by this guy?

Speaker 7 (15:34):
By like about twenty minutes because I was on the
freeway and then he pulled me right because everything was
like orange groves down there, So I literally like.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Me the longest.

Speaker 7 (15:45):
Yeah, but he acted normal at first, but I don't
think he wanted his truck damage because I literally.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Fought for my life.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Did I say anything.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
No, he just.

Speaker 7 (15:56):
Took me out. He said, please, don't you know, don't
hook my truck.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
I literally.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
No.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
No.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
Wait, So did he just drop you off in the
middle of nowhere? He actually took you home?

Speaker 7 (16:10):
No, so there was a food line like up the street,
and he just took me to the parking lot and
let me out.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Oh god, no.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
I mean I'll tell you that if you didn't fight,
you probably are dead right now, you know.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Most definitely, Like it could have been a lot worse
for sure.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
I mean, can you imagine, though, you guys, one minute
driving you you're a nice guy, whatever, and then all
of a sudden, he's taking you on a completely different
route because he wants he's trying to basically traffic you
or do something.

Speaker 7 (16:40):
To you exactly. He was like, Oh, this is only
gonna be a couple of minutes. I said, oh no,
it ain't. Yeah, this is going to be totally different.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Yeah, that's crazy. Man.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
I couldn't. I couldn't imagine. All right, all crazy stories.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Man. I'm glad you're man. Thank you. I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
I I will tell you that I will think differently
about looking at weather differently because I then looked at
the forecast, and the forecast changed once I hit the road,
And if I could have stopped before, like when it
was just flurrying a little bit, honestly, I would have
pulled over and got a room at a Hampton Inn

(17:17):
or sat in a Starbucks for like four hours until
the snow completely changed. But we know I would have
been home by that because I'm a trooper. I don't.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I'm like the I'm like the mailman.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Rain, sleet, snow, white out conditions, squalls,
