Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Mike. It is the Slightly Messy podcast. We
had technical difficulties. So as I was recording this in
the basement with my daughters. My daughter's the co host today. Yeah,
what I realized that the computer shut down halfway through it.
So we do not have like a thirty minute podcast.
(00:21):
So currently we are in her bedroom as we are
getting here or like tucking her in for bed, and
we're having our nightly chat. And what we do here
each night is well, I'll ask her about her day
and what she's got going on and what's happeneding tomorrow
and all that kind of stuff. And usually it's just
(00:46):
like what book she's reading and what we're excited about
for the week. And she asked me when I got
going on, and I tell her what happened was is
that I was telling her that, hey, we should do
the podcast tomorrow. And so we recorded a whole pot
and got fully into like whether or not she wants
to have kids when she gets older and why she
(01:06):
wants to have kids. It was gonna be a great podcast,
but it deleted.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah. So deep, like like you're just so deep in
the cake and fall down, can't get back.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Yeah, Yeah, it was just it's gone and that's okay.
We just move forward and we we do this now.
And I guess now I can ask you since we're
in this, like doing this now, like what do you
like these nighttime chats?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yes, of course, Like in midday it's kind of like
hard because everyone's around and we can't You don't have
much of personal time just you and me unless you
like go into our room and someone's bound to come
in and check on us or something. But like at night,
it's just you and me and we can just chat
about whatever, and like it's a it's a good bonding
(01:54):
time that we have.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I would like when you get older. I hope you
think about this. When you get older, we can have
chats all the time.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah, I was thinking, like we could call each other
and have a quick chat and go to bed.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
It doesn't have to be at bedtime, but yes, an
you can. You can call me anytime. It doesn't matter.
It can be bedtime, but it doesn't have to be bedtime.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
It can just be to.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Check in and say hi. And it's actually a reminder
to me and that I probasould call my mout more too.
But what is one thing when we have these chats
that you always want to ask me but you never
do or haven't yet.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Oh well that's a deep question.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
If you could ask me anything, what would you ask me? Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I would say, like if I could like understand your
job more, how was like your day, not like if
you liked it or not, and if it's busy or not.
I want to know, like what you talked about on
the radio and like all like difficulties, erosions, the thorns,
all that stuff, if I can actually.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Understand it, Yeah, sure, I can walk you through it.
A day. So woke up the roads were really bad
this morning, so yeah, so we had to drive. I
had to drive into us to work early in the morning.
Luckily there's nobody on the road, so that's not too bad.
And then I'm actually pretty awake that early in the morning.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Really well, you want to be used to it by yeah,
years doing it.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah. And but my my co host is a little
more quiet until we get rolling into things, So I
have to control myself and not be too chatty because
otherwise I will try to chat with her a bunch
and she's not that type of person that early. It
takes her a minute to get rolling. Plus she's we're
both kind of busy doing stuff, but I can chat
(03:46):
and do stuff at the same time. So then the
show gets started and gets rolling. And some of the
challenges are like I got to read stories on the air,
so I might fumble the words or I might say it.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
New court hard.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
It's it's not like it's no, no, I don't take
it bad. It's it is a challenge. Yeah, absolutely, but
that's why I love it. And you're, like, you're live,
so like if you can't think of what you're supposed
to say, or you read a thing wrong, you have
to correct it right then or keep going. And so
you just learn to kind of roll with it.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, and you get to like put your mouth up
to like a microphone and definitely hard.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
It's it's definitely a challenge, sure, absolutely, but it is
It's part of the job, and it's part of the
fun of the job. And so then we do the
show and we do we did What's in the Box today? Yeah?
Have it ever told you how that was developed?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
How?
Speaker 1 (04:41):
So? Okay, for those of you listening to the podcast,
this is a slightly messy podcast. I used to be
on My Joe in the morning and then moved over
to the B ninety three Morning Show and I co host.
I'm there now and so during our show, we do
stories like topical stories. We do uh we do like
(05:02):
silly stories. We do what's happening in like the world,
like pop stories. We also do topics for our life.
We talk about our life a lot, and we play
games and we have feel good for all sorts of stuff.
But the one thing we came up with was a
game called What's in the Box. And the reason we
do it on Wednesdays, and the reason we do it
(05:23):
is because we realize that I order packages a lot.
She orders packages a lot. We have packages that come
like even today's number.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
I got a package square one.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah it was. It was cigars that a buddy from
Nashville sent me. Yeah. Yeah, he sings the morning show song,
that guy. Oh it's yeah, yeah being nine to three
morning show, that's it. Oh yeah, So he sent me
a bunch of cigars. But like people send stuff to
the studio too, and we're like one time I joked
(05:57):
around about getting nose piercings and I said, I joked her.
I wasn't and I'm not going to do it. But
I brought those noise piercings into the studio, but I
had them in a box and she's like, well, what's
in there. I'm like, well, you got to guess.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
What it is.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
And she's like, all right, I get to I'll ask
a question, you tell me yes or no, and then
I'll guess. And so from that we had been listeners
call in and then there's a movie called seven that
that clip is from workles. What's in the box? Yeah? Yeah,
six out And then so it kind of evolved. So
(06:30):
I came up with the idea. It evolved into something
kind of fun and cool and it's just a game
we play on Wednesday now and then people love it.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
It's so cool. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
It was an idea that sparked out in nothing that
I came up with, and then we kind of molded
it together and now it's become this big staple. They
call it a benchmark and radio oh yeah, yep. And
so so we did that today and cool and so
my item today was a my Hoka shoes with which
(07:02):
are just writing shoes.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
That's a weird word.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
That's just the name of the shoes. And yeah, so
I did that, and then I did my midday show,
and then I did a bunch of meetings and recorded
a bunch of commercials.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
And a meeting is fun?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Are they boring?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Are they important that you gotta like you want to listen?
They just get boring.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Sometimes all of the things that you just said. Yes,
yes they're fun. Sometimes yes they're important. Sometimes yes they're boring.
Sometimes got it.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
It's like me and Math. I just feel like they've
been writing so much. Can we have a break just
for a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
It's kind of like Math, but like imagine like creative math,
where sometimes you get to your sitting in a meeting
to try to create something, and you have to your
job there and the reason you're there is because they
want you to help create something. So you all bring
your ideas or talk about your ideas, and then we
(08:00):
execute them. But sometimes it's just it's just a meeting
where everybody's talking and and you know, we don't know.
It's just it's just a meaning where people are just talking. Yeah,
sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it's not. Yeah, but yeah, yeah,
(08:21):
that's that's That was my day pretty much. Then I
went to the gym and I worked out, and I
came home. I'm trying to. I'm trying to. I would
love to hear stories speaking that my daughter says, I'm
stronger than two men because of this story that I'm
about to tell you, and it's a true story, but
it's it's one of those stories. Do you remember when
(08:43):
you looked at your parents and you thought they were
the strongest people in the world. I would love to
hear your story of when you thought they were the
strongest person in the world or when you found out
they weren't the strongest person in the world. Because my daughter,
because we had a dishwasher replaced in the company replacing
the dishwak sure told me they couldn't get it out.
And at this point I had pulled it halfway out
(09:05):
for them, or I'd gotten it ready for them anyways,
and they told me they couldn't get it out, and
I was gonna have to pay to have all this
other stuff happened, and I was frustrated at the time.
So I literally ripped out the dishwasher myself, and they
told me they had two guys come and do it,
and they couldn't do it. And so now forever, my
daughter says that I'm that I'm what young man. Oh jeez,
(09:31):
and I would love to hear if you got some
redm met on air my chemistagram. I don't even know
how this is going to sound because I'm literally recording
this from my phone. We're doing this basically the nighttime Chats.
We'll call this podcast, I think, because we were supposed
to do it. We had a whole Christmas topic and everything,
and now we're just we're just this is our night talks.
(09:52):
And I was like, you know what, we'll just record
it here. I'm not going to redo a whole podcast.
We're just going to go on the fly right now. Now,
let me ask you question. Right then, I gotta go
in your brother's room and I gotta chat with your brother.
What is one thing from today that you that made you? Oh,
you were at your your almost you're at your grandma's today. Yeah,
(10:14):
we'll see. There's not much to ask there. I know,
I know all the stuff that happened today. What'd you
guys do? Well?
Speaker 2 (10:20):
We did some paintings I drew too, like we's it
fire dragons that winds up there ones on my on
my shelf.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
And you were telling me you don't like snow days
or you do like snow days.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
I do like snow days, but like today we're supposed
to go to like the Christmas shop that we always
do every year. And I was gonna tell my friends
that I something I just learned in one of the
wings of your books, and I was so excited to
tell them, so excited to tell them. But we had
a snow day, so I was like that, it's a bummer,
(10:55):
But like we get to go to Almas for an
entire day, so like that's so much fun. Post Mama
surprises with it when we were just turning in the
corner to go there to drop up Bash and she's like, oh,
before I forget, it's a snowty. You're gonna hang it
with your m all day.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
And we're like, yeah, awesome. So what is the because
we were talking about this morning on the B ninety
three Morning show, what is the What are the snow
day rituals? Now? They were different than when I was
a kid. What do you do so you could get
a snow day? Oh?
Speaker 2 (11:23):
The snowdy rituals?
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Oh, you are yelling. I don't know if you know that,
but you are yelling.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Sorry. So it's where your clothes inside out and backward,
a white crane in the fridge, three ice tubes down
the drain the toilet actually, a spoon under your pillow,
a penny on your door, and do super silly dance
(11:51):
before you go to bed.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
All right, Well we'll see if any of those snow
day hacks work.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Works like every single time except once.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Oh, that's pretty good numbers. All right, I got your
mom is texting me to come into your brother's room.
That was a quick podcast. We had to get something
up because we had technical issues earlier, so it was
a little nighttime chat with me and my daughter, says
