Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio. It is Friday. These
some are the twentieth twenty twenty four snow flurries today,
so be careful. Let me tell you all. I've got
a lot to do before I get to my co host.
First and foremost, I want everyone to know. It is
my mother's birthday today. She's ninety four years old. And

(00:24):
I'm in the basement. She's upstairs. I hear somebody saying, Jerry, Jerry,
probably twenty five minutes ago. I'm like, oh, my goodness,
what's going on with mother? I jump up, run up
the steps. She's standing in the hallway saying, there's something
in my room chirping. I said, oh, it must be
the smoke detector. He says, let me show you where

(00:45):
it is. I go in the room. She points up
at the smoke detector. I said, yeah, Mom, is your
smoke detector. It needs batteries. She says, you need to
change that on time. I said, got your mother? Gotcha?
So that was I said, And then I told Mama.
I said good morning. She said, oh, I forgot it
was my birthday. I said, I know, you were too
much critique in me, and she laughed and went back

(01:09):
to bed. So it is my mom's birthday. I want
to try to know that blessed ninety four years. So
let's bring on my two co hosts. First one and
foremost always the young fella, Anthony. He's welcome to the show.
How are you.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Well? Do what amazing?

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I'm glad somebody else was critiquing you other than me,
because we gotta keep doing check sometimes.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
You know, you you're getting in your sixties.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
You like to slip now, so we have to keep
you on p's.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
And q's without a doubt. Anthony. She made sure she
slapped the taste out of my mouth. You need to
check that before it starts to chirp. So I got
it straight, Anthony. I changed the batteries and put it
right back up. Now, Anthony, you talk about mother keeping
me in checking you. This other guy Jesus honey, Anthony,
bring him home, Shan and I swear he's called ring you.

(01:53):
George Williams and some security numbers four three, zero, two
nine eight. You want me to give out those last
four digit you've me alone, George. Welcome to the show,
George Williams.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
How are you wonderful? Miss He's wonderful happy house day
to you and your son, you know what I mean.
And Shannon and all our listeners, absolutely, no question. And
your mother, especially your mother having a great birthday.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
And I can't say much for her son, but I
think that you did a blood job with the other children.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
She did the best she could do.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
George. Hey, you did a great job with the other children.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Ja.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
It's only one that I know that that George.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
There's always that one, George. George, there's always one.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
Is always say there is and you know that one
and all I know that one.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
George. Sometimes you gotta take it like a man. So
let me tell you, guys, what is going on? Go ahead,
go ahead, George, and I'll get to it.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
I don't know your University of Louisville. Jerry has got
a great Christmas present last night. Man, what can you know?
We don't get to that. Don't want to throw the
Christmas present. I wanted to kill the Christmas present though, Jae.
I thought that was a great president for the city
of Louisville.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
No question, We're gonna get to it too.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Great, Okay, I think you would. I hope you would.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Kelly, Oh yeah, Anthony's got that in his report. Hey George,
where were you last night at the King of Grass
I was looking for you.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Well, I'm not coming out to the quarter finals yet,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I had to get out early just because I'm busy.
Of course, birthday today. I've got a game tomorrow, so
I had to get out last night. I had to,
so I did good. Hey, George, wouldn't know what happened.
I saw Louisville teams go home with losses.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
That's who.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yes, yeah, I mean, I couldn't believe it. Mayo could
not George. There was a lid on the basket. Mao lost, George,
Frederick Douglas got them.

Speaker 5 (03:55):
Now, Frederick was no easy out.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Jay, You're no joke. LEXI to know they're a very
good team, George. They really are. They're a very good team,
just like their football team improving, and their head coach,
George is a very good friend. I had no idea
Coach Hayworth and I are talking. That's Males coach. In
the hallway, a gentleman walks up behind me, big bear, Hug.
I have no idea who it is? George Faradale High School.

(04:17):
I mean, I got a lot of enemies I thought
it was you our turnaround, it was Murray, you would
have George. It was the head coach at Frederick Douglass. Well,
the last time I saw him, he was the assistant
coach at South Carolina State, George, when I was the
head coach at a NT. I'm like, what are you doing?
He says, I'm the head coach at Frederick Douglas. I'm like,

(04:39):
get out of here. I mean, honestly, so it was
a family reunion. We all had a great time. We did. Yes,
Frederick Douglas took care of Male, now, George, and we'll
let they did.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
They did.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Now Eatland is out, Male's leading scorer. Their point guard
is out for six weeks. I'm not saying he has
a broken foot, something with a ligament in his foot,
So do not try to say clarify this. I'm just
saying he has a foot injury. His foot is in
a boot. His dad told me it would be four
to six weeks. Who is the assistant coach at Mail?

(05:15):
That's all I can say. But he did not play.
If Evelyn played, Mail would have taken care of business,
no question, Mail mate. Mail was down sixteen at halftime.
George sixteen makes a.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Lack of punk. Guard played Jerry, is that what? Yes?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
It was, it was, but George, it was no question,
but George. Yeah, we're gonna get to it, George, God
mail may have Mail may have, and this is a
big may. They may have the next Allen Houston freshman,
bad boy. George, not even gonna I'm gonna get into it.

(05:51):
I'm not gonna go there yet.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
I've got wat play I play, George.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
George bad boy. So we're gonna get into that. But
first and foremost, guys, it is the day college football playoffs, Anthony,
George Listeners. I told everyone I was giving my score. Okay,
everyone knows that, George. If my score matches someone else's

(06:16):
scored and they win the contest, they win the money,
the tie, George, don't say I'm the Grinch and the Scrooge.
The tie goes to the listener. It doesn't go to
the house. So if I pick a score and someone
else has already picked that score, no problem. If you win,
the tie goes to you. But everyone I was going

(06:36):
to yes, exactly, just say that again, Anthony. Somebody can
check my pulse, my heart rate, everything. What's my problem? Man?
If I lost my mind.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Anthony, you lost that a long time ago when you
thought you could be I don't know what you're talking about.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I mean, he's going to know you well, Jerry. He's
starting to know you, wal George.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
He buys trying to get personally. Now, don't get personal
on this show, George, Jerry.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
I think he's blend show, Jerseys blend show.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
It is so okay. I am trying to give away
some money for Christmas, George, Christmas cheer. But if I
beat you all, I'm gonna talk junk to everyone.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
Here is the deal.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Drum roll, No, George, you know before I give mine,
I'm gonna get your score. I've got Anthony's George, your score.
Ohio State, Tennessee. What's your score?

Speaker 5 (07:38):
I'll say twenty one fourteen Ohio State?

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Are you taking, George?

Speaker 5 (07:45):
I'm going with Tennessee's great.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Okay, George. I hate to tell you. I used to
think that a lot of people have taken Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
Now, oh get in Texas.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Clemson, No Clemson, Texas. Who do you think, George Clinton?

Speaker 5 (08:01):
I'm going with Texas, Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Penn State and s m u at Penn State. Happy Valley.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
I'm going with penn State.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
Okay, Notre Dame. I U no to Dame State rivals,
Notre Dame, no day. So you went with no upsets, George.
Here's here's mine, George. I'm going with Ohio State. I
told everybody that on Monday I'm going to went up
to Yeah, I know you did. I'm going with Ohio State,

(08:32):
Wedle State twenty four, Tennessee seventeen. George is my score?
No one has it at this time, but it doesn't
mean they won't. I've got I know exactly, and I
think Lee yesterday. Lee Stirling said yesterday that he didn't
think the weather would be a factor. I disagree.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
Thirteen.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
I know exactly it's going to be a factor. George.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
So had you say that Jersey?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
He did know?

Speaker 5 (09:02):
He said, he's but I mean, why do you think
if you were passing team?

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Here's what happened in Eastern Tennessee. He said, Eastern Tennessee.
The state is fairly cool, so he thought Tennessee would ads.

Speaker 5 (09:14):
And that's what I think he says.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
He says that with Ohio State's banged up offensive line,
I may change my score. He thinks that Tennessee's running game.
They have the better running game, Tennessee. But he'd not
go with Ohio State. But he did not have Ohio
State covery. Okay, he did not, so four seventeen. If
Oil State lets me down, I'll be the first one

(09:36):
there to let Ryan Day know pack your stuff up.
Is over. Hey, George is over, brother, It's time to go.
So everyone knows my score. Twenty four Oil State seventeen Tennessee.
We've got to wait and see, George. Here's when those
games will be played. I did have them.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Somewhere, Jane, why are you looking for? Can I say
something that urban mind said the other day, Erban Miles
was on a sports show and I was listening to him.
Erban Miles said, the way college football in the landscape
is and the way you're recruiting now. He said, Ohio
Sate can't afford to fire him. He said that, well,
how would fire him? They would go come immediately downhill.

(10:15):
They said, that's how type the portal is. And he
said something that was very very interested in the portal
and recruiting young people today. He said, you don't recruit
young people today. You go to the agent, you talk
to their agent, you make them an offer. If you're
either gonna make them my offer, you don't make the
my offer, and then that's how you're recruiting now. They said,
it ain't about going in and knowing the family, what's
going on, knowing the girlfriend that's out. He says, it's

(10:38):
about how much do you want? How much are we.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Willing to give when we come back from to break, George,
because we're cutting up this show. It's already seven sixteen. Okay,
got two callers, Marty, you're the first step. We'll get
your score in. We're gonna Anthey and I spoke about
that yesterday. Anthony gave me a scenario if I was
coming out McDonald's All American University of Louisville may be
an offer, but some other teams may me more. What

(11:00):
would I have done, George? And I told him yesterday, honestly,
I'm taking the money, George. He said, someone offered me
five million, and louis have offered me one and a half. George,
I'm taking the money. I told him that yesterday. I
wouldn't kid you, but George seventeen, we'll talk about it
after the break. Sports Radio Welcome back to the sports

(11:41):
Radio at seven twenty. I've got George Williams and Anthony Eves.
We've got callers. Let's get to that first caller. I
know he wants to get his score in. Let's bring
Marty to the show party.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
Welcome to Esports Radio.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
How are you good?

Speaker 4 (11:53):
How you guys doing this morning?

Speaker 1 (11:55):
So I got slacked this morning, Anthony sli My mom
slapped me. George tried to slap me. But you know
I'm just too fast for George, just too fast.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Hey, hey, Jerry, First of all, I got a comment.
You were talking about taking the money they were offered
when you were coming out. He hadn't told the people
what you were driving back at ubil your little Pinto wagon.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
They thought we were all rich. Everyone thought we were
getting paid. I had a blow up pental wagon. I
was at Louisville seventy eight eighty two. I had a
nineteen seventy two red Tudor blow up pental wagon with
a CB antenna drilled in the roof. And I liked
that CBN ten. I used to listen to it all
the time. Yeah. Correct, Now everybody's thinking at George Williams,

(12:47):
he took all the money, and how.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
Much you made Jerry, I did.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
He told yes, he did. He asked me when I
was driving.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
It was in the back, telling about the safety you
had in the back, Jered for autos.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Hey, George, you know what the sponsors are saying when
Coach Crumby started me as a sophomore, get that bum
out of the game, George. I improved, but they were saying,
get that bum out of the game anyway, George, coach crumbles.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
Pay me, I'll play me. Use me, I lose me, Jere.
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
I'm not just.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Thinking, Anthony. I told you these people that lost their
minds just without lost their minds. Now, let's just be honest, George.
I'm gonna tell all my listeners the truth. The gallon
of the line. Martin Dunbar was my roommate at Louisville
three out of the four years. So Martin, of course,
like everyone had to work their way through school. So

(13:42):
Martin would work parties.

Speaker 7 (13:43):
George.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
I mean he truly did work parties, and he would
come back he'd have a lot of alcohol, which I
didn't want, and he'd have a lot of spare change. George.
Back in the day, three four dollars, well after he worked,
he'd drink the alcohol. He passed out. George, It's the truth, George.
He'd go in his room and pass out. He'd wake
up the next morning. I swear, did you see.

Speaker 5 (14:06):
Anybody go in my room?

Speaker 1 (14:07):
I'm like, why, Martin, I'm missing four or five dollars.
Back then, you could get a lot to eat with
four or five dollars, Anthony, I swear, I'll tell Martin
every morning. I don't know what you're talking about. I
have no idea who took that four or five dollars
I lived. I lived off of Martin's tip money. That's
just what.

Speaker 5 (14:26):
He told me that. That's the truth, George.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Hey, George was getting paid. I lived off Martin's tip money.

Speaker 5 (14:33):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Interest occurred so that that little four or five dollars
has really grown, and I want my money.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
You don't know, Jerry. You know, you know Jared money.
You know how.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
I thought, Hey, George, I'm gonna get his mailbox.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
I'm not gonna get his mailbox.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
No, So let me tell you, Anthony. You know what
I tell him, Anthony, same thing I tell a lot
of people. As long as I owe your money, you'll
never be broke.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
Love boy, your friend Martin, your friends.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Broke prop pop should be broken. I'm trying to tell
you you're good.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
I'm gonna get your mailbox so you can't get your chicks.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
And you know where you live, and you know where
you live.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
It's rough, out of your choice, it's rough. So anyway,
let's get with it. Martin. We're gonna get these scores in.
You've got the only one that matters, Ohio State, Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
All right, I'm going I'm going to shock the world.
I'm gonna go with Tennessee twenty four seventeen.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Twenty four seventeen.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Hold up, Yeah, hold up.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
I've got to check that because they may have someone else.
There are a lot of people that have taken that
Martin taken Tennessee. I've got a check, I really do.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
I know.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
I've got four people that have taken five that have
taken Tennessee. Golly know, I told you all my computer's
not good. Just leave me alone. Four twenty seven.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
And you about the new model too.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Jerry, Yeah, I did exactly. It's called flipping a piece
of paper over and over. I've got every score for
the entire year, though, so no one can call in
and say, hey, Jerry about this, I'll say, what about it?
I've got every score twenty one, thirteen, twenty one, thirty.

Speaker 5 (16:24):
One brow like your hip money okay, gets them here
away exactly. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, And I worked hard for that money too, get
out here like I was like Donald Summons, I worked
tad for my money.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
You're good, I'll get it, okay. Yeah, No, don't even
listen to that junk. You've got it. Who are you
taking Texas or Clemson Texas? Who are you taking SMU
or Penn State? Upset City.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
I think I'm gonna go with the Nittany lines on that.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Your wife's from Dallas means weak, your wife from.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
His State's been looking good though.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Man, they even won a big game. Honestly, James Franklin
Martin is two and seventeen and big games. This is
a big game, So I hope you think he looks
good until the game start.

Speaker 6 (17:20):
Yeah, I think they're gonna show up.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Okay, Honestly, I'm taking this MU. George took Penn State too.
I'm going against George.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
I'm well, well, one thing you gotta look at Jaed.
Only time Penn State basically loses is to heavy wasting.
They just don't have the recruiting budget to recruit with them.
And that's Ohio State Michigan. Other than that, my man
basically holds his own against anybody in the country.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Well, Ryan Day's gonna lose his job because he's lost
the Michigan every time. So Ry and James Franklin fired
because he loses to Ohio State Michigan every time.

Speaker 5 (17:54):
When they ain't got that kind of tradition, Jared tradition
when they were independent.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Right, Okay, Martin last game, I'm gonna ask Anthony something
for a year ago last game. I you know there Day,
who is it?

Speaker 4 (18:11):
I think I irish you're gonna get him. I'd really
love to see how you win. But I just don't
think they can do it.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Okay, one of those two is gonna be upset my opinion. Hey, Anthony,
what were we saying on vacation last year when Martin's
son went with us and that boy didn't show up?
Did we call Martin a chicken? Didn't his son Braxt
called him a chicken?

Speaker 4 (18:33):
I think we about you know, different different things, and
don't let him put you in the middle of that.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
No, we did, but I put your son in it too.
He backed out on us, Anthony, George, the boy backed
down on us at the end.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
Now my wife got sick.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
I didn't back My bag is still packed.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
Like Jerry. He just back to sixteen wheel and then
got another truck and back then over YouTube blithers all
the time, all the time.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
I'm gonna let you go. I gotta get to my
next caller. Chicken, all right, Chicken little later, Chicken little
bring bring Ryan to the show later, Ryan, Welcome to
the sports radio.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
Good morning.

Speaker 6 (19:17):
So first off, George, let's talk about this.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
For a minute.

Speaker 7 (19:21):
Okay, Gerry, Gerry Eves did not wake up this week
with the Christmas spirit in his heart. You know, let
me just give some money away from my heart. So
all of a sudden, you know, well the tie goes
to the collar and this and that.

Speaker 6 (19:38):
Hey, George, George, I think there's always a motive with.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
Jerry when it comes to money. All right, so we
know this. You know this.

Speaker 6 (19:48):
What I think, George, what I think is happened. I
think a sponsor said, you give some of that money
away or we're cutting it off. You're done, you think,
so now I gotta give, I gotta give away some money.

Speaker 7 (20:03):
I gotta give ways some money.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Steve Trager, you think some of.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
My and you.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Not to you, not to you. I'm beating you again.
That's all there is to it again.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (20:22):
By the way, hey Jerry, you're back.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
I'm going with s m U in an upset. I'm
going with my A C C and an ups not
Clemson s m U.

Speaker 8 (20:34):
Yeah, well here, here's here's the news flash for you.
S m U.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
The beat wake force and du mm hmmm that that
ain't Mischigan an old house state.

Speaker 8 (20:46):
Okay it's not.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
But you know I'll put you can get on that
Titanic with James Franklin all you want. I'm not getting
on that one.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
I'm just not on.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I got you, I at you.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
That's a lot, you know that that world did. Y'all
live in the AC.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
I'm back in a CC. You're right, I'm back in
them taking that s cm U upset sin.

Speaker 6 (21:11):
Okay, don't get behind that truck if you're back.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Before I get to break, because we gotta stay on task.
Hey Ryan, what and I'm being honest with you, George.
When we come back after break, Ryan, stay on hole.
We gotta go to break I'm gonna talk about that
mad high school game. Anthey, and that young kid is
the sports radio. We'll be back in a second. Welcome

(22:03):
back to EVE Sports Radio seven thirty four. We've got Anthony,
Eve's George Williams, Ron my Man the caller, and we're
just talking a little junkie guys. It's the twentieth of December.
We're five days away. We've got big football game tonight.
We've got three huge games tomorrow. College football contest. Someone
has a chance to win woman four hundred dollars, mail

(22:26):
three hundred dollars in the E Sports Radio contest. Got
Shannon the dude behind the glass. So, Anthony, are.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
You with me?

Speaker 2 (22:34):
I'm still here?

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Okay? So Anthony, I want you to hit us with
what went on last night in volleyball at the em Center.
Let's just bring us up to date before and the
basket high school basketball games before we get into the
male high school game. What transpired in volleyball final four
last night? Anthony?

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Yeah, so the volleyball last night.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Obvious, who didn't watch last night? U ll honestly, the
surprise me a little bit. We took care of business
against Pitt's, winning three one. After going down one set,
we ended up finishing him off with three straight sets afterwards. Honestly,
it was an incredible game. Now, I will say, there
is a girl that is on pittsburghs volleyball team. She's

(23:15):
a sophomore. I was trying to we're trying to guess
the height of how tall she was like she I
swear like she had like a forty two in vertical.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
I'm not joking.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
She hit getting off their feet.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
And then and then I looked at it and I
looked it up and realized she's like the front runner
for the Player.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Of the Year.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
I said, Oh, that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
I was like, I'm like, it's no, it sounds funny.
But I was like, I was like, man.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
I was like, she's hitting like a grown man right now.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
And I said that as a joke.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
I wasn't being serious, but was like, she hits it
so hard, like it looks like it looks like a
man who's hitting that men's volleyball.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
But the women are very athletic. Bust Boom Kelly has
done a tremendous job to female coach is going at
it for the first time. There will be a female
champion coach a volleyball for the first time in college
volleyball ever. And what those girls are so athletic, it's amazing.
They are jumping like men. But continue what happened in

(24:09):
the second game. You know, Louisville won, took down and
Pitt beat them twice this year. It's hard to beat
a team three times.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
So guys, really, yes, and the and the star player
and the beer roller ankle in the middle of the
third set, so yes, from going four. Yeah, it's a
tough battle, but they they put work together that four
sets to take care of business.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
But that game afterwards, though, you know what I didn't.
I only got to sell the highlights. I went to
bed early because you know, I'm an old head sometimes.
But they said probably one of the games of the season.
Penn State went down two against Nebraska and started off
which is, you know, to come back in three sets
and sweep somebody is it is hard to do in volleyball.
That's like trying to win four games a row in

(24:49):
NBA basketball. But they came back and beat them in
three straight sets, win the fifth set fifteen to thirteen
over Nebraska to go their first ever in the National Championship.
Some teams they've been getting so close, but they've been
struggling to get over that hump.

Speaker 5 (25:03):
The Pitt coach.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
They have been to the semi final by last four
years in a row that have not made a national
championship once. This is Penn State's first ever national championship. Usually,
Nebraska has been running the table in the last couple
of years. U of L was in the national.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Championship in twenty twenty two, back when Hill set the
YOUM Center. One's volleyball has been very consistent.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Over the last couple of years.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
When it comes to teams that make it to their
final four, there's not a lot of many upsets though.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
That's why that's.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
The only big differential I would say between men's and
women's sports. There's not really many cinderella stories. Like you
won't see a Saint.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Peter's go out there and beat Duke. You won't see
an Oakland go beat Kentucky. You won't see Oakland's go
out there and make deep runs.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Or you'll see how twelve seed at NC State make.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
It to the final four. Women's sports, usually the top
one or two seeds usually just run the table until
they get to about.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
The final four.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
That's the big difference I've noticed.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
It was all for number one seeds Anthony and Penn State.
Antony has been very successful. They haven't been the last
ten years. But between two that between nineteen ninety nine
and twenty fourteen, Penn State has won seven volleyball championships.
They're trying to get eight. They're they're pretty dang good.
They're trying to get eight, but it was ten years
ago since they had won one. They've been in a

(26:11):
major drought at Penn State. But they're one of the
perennial perennial powers. But anyway, great job. Let's move to basketball.
Let's go to the two games. We want to speak
about the male game in the Trinity game last night
at King of the Bluegrass.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Oh of course, yeah, no, we're going into that. My favorite,
you know, favorite type of basketball. That's sixth and seventh
region right there, maybe the seventh region, seventh region. You know,
you know, I have we held down in Southern region
for a long time. You know, I get people nightmares.
But it surprised me that both the Louisville teams lost
last night. We didn't getting out of a single win
of the Louisville teams at the KOB I'm I was

(26:45):
a little disappointed. No, I didn't go to Trinity or Mail,
but I still support my Louisville schools.

Speaker 9 (26:50):
When we play out of state and out of city rivals,
and I was like, dang, we got we gotta win
some games. But first game last night, Frederick Douglas played
Mail at Fairdell to night. They won that game seventy
two to sixty four.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Puff lost. I heard Male start off super slow, because
I know you were at that game and said they
only have like twenty points in the first half.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
I'm like, Jesus, that's that's that's low.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Yes, and it happens.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
I work, Yeah, I went to twenty seven to twelve.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Mail was down twenty seven to twelve. No, twenty seven
to twelve with five minutes to go in the second half,
twenty seven to twelve. They just there was a lid
on the basket for Mail. They couldn't hit a layup,
they couldn't hit a three, they couldn't hit a free throw.
Nothing went in, I mean nothing at all.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
I understand that happened to us when we played that
out of value, when we played man. We we weren't
low scoring as twelve, but we were down by about
twenty at half.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
So it happens to a lot of high school teams.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Were like, oh, they're getting beat.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
They suck.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
No high school sports.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
There's a lot of comingbacks.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
But that's the only thing when high school kids, when
they get into a slump, it is hard for them
to get out.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
It's not like college and professional skill levels just isn't
as high.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
It's their adversity levels just aren't the same. So they
missed up with shots. It runs off a lot of
momentum and waves. So if they don't hit shots early,
sometimes high school kids they might not score all game,
and then happens. I've seen it numerous times. I've done
it myself in.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
At least a handful of games throughout my career.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
I went out there and I missed my first shots.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
I think I finished in maybe six or eight points.

Speaker 8 (28:16):
It was a terrible game.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Well let me tell you what, guys, and we got
to we gotta get to Jordan Mitchell, the little guy.
He's six foot three and a half. Right now, you own,
George Ron I went out to watch you. I knew
that Evelyn was hurt their leading scorer. I knew Mail
that Mail is not Mail. They will be ready when
Eveland plays. They would have won last night. I mean

(28:40):
that truly. But they have a lack of leadership. But
they're playing this young man at the point, George, And
I'm telling you his name is Jordan Mitchell. He looks
like a young Alan Houston. He can score the ball.
He's got mid range, he can take it to the basket, George.
And he's got the three pointer. If he works on

(29:00):
his skill and grows, and I do believe he'll be
six to six by the time he leaves, George, I
really do. Mail may have a real one. I'm being
honest with you. Mail may have one of the very
first true NBA players to come out. If this young
man can keep a level head, do it, coach Hayward
tells him and works at his game. Georgie's got ability,

(29:21):
And I mean he turned it over, George. He played
like a freshman. Frederick Douglas got up in him. But
that boy has got true talent.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
He really does have.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
You and you said you've seen him, Georgian.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
M Yeah, okay, with some potential talent like that, do
you think they're really gonna stay at Male High School
for four years.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
I'm hoping to see it, and I'm so tired of
people leaving. I'm glad you said that, George.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
That you think he is, he'll be out of there.
D'Angel Russell did and left all the day left. I
don't think they'll stay. If he gets that potential, who'll
be like an I mg a La lumier Mond. I
don't think he'll stay all four years because you just
don't get recruited well out of Louisville City schools.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
I love. They don't know because everybody leaves, but they Anthony,
we used to not.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Have to leave.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
They came.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
They used to, but they don't.

Speaker 10 (30:11):
Even when I was here, I didn't. But when I
was here, When I was here, you know that for
a fact, when I was here, even themselves.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Delon Perry, Corey Douglas, Dwayne Sudden. None of us got
recruited by U of L schools, not one of us,
Not even Cameron Justice that was a player of the Year,
who have aged thirty five games. None of us got
really recruited by State of Kentucky schools now Morehead State,
not Murray State, not University of Louisville, not Bellarman, not
Kentucky Western Kentucky. We all, we all went out of state.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Okay, what do you think, George, what do you think?

Speaker 5 (30:46):
Well, I don't think you have to leave. I think
you know you have schools in your area, you know.
And now it's such a different animal. Like I told you, Jess,
it's a bidding war now, so it's not the same
kind of animal that they recruit you. They pay for you.
So I think a player can stay here and make
it if he could carry a team, you know what
I mean. I'm trying to get I can. I'm staying

(31:08):
at school. I give as many points as I can
so I can't get paid more. I'm not trying to
go up there with all the big dogs than I
have to share the pie exactly.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Great point.

Speaker 7 (31:17):
What do you think, right, Ah, Jerry, I'll give you
an example.

Speaker 6 (31:21):
Uh, I mean, Anthony's right. There are a lot of
the majority or a lot of the kids.

Speaker 8 (31:26):
With that kind of talent.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Do leave?

Speaker 8 (31:28):
I don't think you have to. I'll give you a
prime example that just happened. North Laurel High School reacheverk
Houston Rocket played out, played out, in rural kentuckyes. They'll
find if you're good enough.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
They're gonna find you exactly.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
They'll find you, no question. Your talent will put you
where you need. But for some reason, they're The attitude
that Anthony is speaking about is an attitude that a
lot of parents have.

Speaker 5 (31:56):
I don't there, and that's where it's at.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
I'm thinking, right, yes, no, go ahead, George, No, I.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
Can curry what you told it. I think it's the
parents and they want that kind of prestige and see
that their kids is playing school, and really they're putting
them in a in the ocean. We should be in
this big lake where he can control it and be
the best key young person he could be. But you're
putting them over compete, hurting his own self because you're
competing against so many people to be the number one.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
It is only cool when we're coming back from break.
It's seven forty four. Parents. You have to understand that
they always think taking their kids, that what they think
is bigger is better, which is just not the truth.
It is not the truth. It's the sports radio. We're
gonna cut the shows who were staying on task. It
is seven forty four, almost seven, seven forty five. If

(32:45):
you've got to get to work, you need to be
moving and we'll talk to you all after the break.

(33:19):
Welcome back to Sports Radio seven forty eight. Yes, it
is the twentieth of December. Friday, Next Wednesday is Christmas.
Put a smile on some one's face. I'm going to
tomorrow before our men's game at two o'clock, we're going
to give out toys to all my Simmons former players
that have kids. So it's going to be a fun,
fun day that Saturday morning. So let's get back with it.

(33:42):
George and Anthony. We got another caller in Anthony, another Anthony,
not my Anthony, but we have another Anthony on the line. Anthony.
Welcome to you, Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
How are you. I'm doing great? Jerry, how are you, sir?

Speaker 1 (33:55):
Good? You're ready to get your score in?

Speaker 5 (33:57):
Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Brother? Let's do it? Anthony. I spoke with Anthony Rupparena. George.
He's one of yours. He's one of yours.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
I swear he's a great man. It's a red man already. Yeah,
I don't even know. I know he's a great man.

Speaker 11 (34:12):
Yeah, that's the whole reason I'm calling Jerry. We need
all the nil money we can get, so I need
to get somebody here.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Anthony Yod Anthony Thornton, the punter for a university. We
spoke at the UK game. Anthony, you were a little
nervous there with my Cardinals. You have to admit I stayed,
and you know I leave it a halftime. Mandy, I'm
sorry I stayed, Anthony, I stayed. He was like, oh,
maybe upset city, baby.

Speaker 11 (34:36):
I'm just enjoying the process at the fun season.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
It is a fun season, so let's go with it, Anthony.
The game is Ohio State, Tennessee. What's your score?

Speaker 11 (34:46):
Tennessee thirty, Ohio State nineteen.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Okay, boy, you're sec I don't even have to check that.
Clemson Texas, no one has that score. It be Texas,
Texas in state s m.

Speaker 11 (35:00):
U as much as I hated, They'll be Penn State.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Okay, Okay, everybody's going with James Franklin. Okay, Indiana Notre Dame.

Speaker 11 (35:13):
As much as I want, I just don't think they
can stop the run.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
So you're going with.

Speaker 7 (35:22):
I hate it.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
I don't want to.

Speaker 11 (35:24):
The only reason I'm here for Notre Dame is because
Tony Driver played for them.

Speaker 4 (35:28):
That's about it.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Well, George, Anthony, why there's gonna be an upset? But
most people have gone Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame. Most
people there are a few that have wandered over there.
I think I have two that have picked Indiana. I
think one is taking the s m U. Maybe two.
But most people just believe the Chalks are gonna win

(35:52):
this thing. We shouldn't play the games. And guys, if
you think the Chalks are gonna win, somebody.

Speaker 11 (36:00):
Years in the playoffs, the first round are typically blowout.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Right, Okay, George, do you see a blowout? Do you
see Notre Dame blow in Indiana out? Be honest, now
a blowout?

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Twenty eight to seven?

Speaker 5 (36:16):
You do? Yeah? Yeah? Okay?

Speaker 1 (36:19):
And I mean, and Anthony, you think, Anthony Thornton, do
you think Notre Dame blows out Indiana? Truly? Now you
just said it? Do you think they blow Indiana?

Speaker 11 (36:30):
I don't know that that will be a blowout, but
I think they'll show. I think they'll show a scoring.
I mean twenty to seventy, twenty to thirteen, something like that.
I mean twenty You.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Don't think you think Indiana'll only be able to muster
thirteen to seventeen points, is what you.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
Think based on what I've seen?

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Yes, so you're seeing Notre Dame could beat Ohio State
because you're trying to say that's the way that Notre
Dame is going to be able to handle the line
of scrimms in Indiana. Okay, what about Penn State? Sm
U s and you can't score? Played well against Louis
Louisville had Notre Dame. I know Kentucky fans hate me
to say that, but they did. Louisville was Notre Dame.

(37:06):
I wasn't impressed. I know, I know George. I knew
George was gonna hit me, which is true, SMU Notre Dame, Anthony,
what do you think?

Speaker 8 (37:18):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (37:18):
I mean SMU Penn State Me?

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Yes, excuse me, SMU Pensil Yes.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Sorry.

Speaker 11 (37:25):
I don't think either of them will do a whole lot,
but I still think that they'll control. I still think
they'll control the front. I think they'll control the line,
both O line and D line. So I think Penn
State will control the game.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
Low scoring game twenty one to.

Speaker 11 (37:37):
Seven, Uh probably yeah, twenty eight ten, something like that.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Okay, all right, Well guys, that's why I can't wait
for tonight and Saturday's games. I just can't. It's gonna
there's a lot going on, so we have to wait
and see.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
Yes, I got a question for Big can with no
back in the day. Is the Pound, Pound and Grind Conference? Right?

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (38:04):
Now, the all all these other teams they've included, what's
gonna be their identity? I mean, how they're gonna be
passing pounding ground? Because you got to know what sect
you look at the now, Well you've.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
Got Oregon sitting at the top of it, George, So
I have to come question the past the West Coast offense.
I don't think Oregon's ever going to be a pound
and ground team. I think they're gonna try to outscore you.
I think they're gonna try to spread you out and
and weaken your defense and try to score points. So
they won it this year.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
But Georgia, how you prepared for you? How you describe
the Big Ten now? Though you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (38:39):
Oh, great point, No, great point, Anthony, you played college football.
That should have been asked to you. How do you
describe the Big Ten now, Anthony? In college football? With
Oregon sitting at the top, Ohio State is not ground
and pound anymore. They're not well. Maybe if they did
not lose the two offensive lineman, they could run it better.

(39:00):
They've got too grateful running backs. How do you see
perceive the Big ten?

Speaker 11 (39:05):
It's still gonna be controlled by the ground game. That
you've got too much bad weather in too many parts
of of the country. They're always going to have that
cold weather. They're gonna need the running game. If you
look at Oregon, even when Oregon has been phenomenal on
the passing game, you look at their rushing numbers and
they still average a ton of rushing. They just do
it differently.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Okay, and that's why I'm glad you're on now. You
Kentucky in the new SEC, Coach Stukes has done a
fine job. I tell people that, no, I don't think
he can put them in the top five. But I'm
asking you, Anthony, what and what should be expected of

(39:45):
University of Kentucky football by its fans.

Speaker 11 (39:51):
I mean, I would love to say consistency like you
gave them the last ten years, But in the NIL
you're not gonna get consistency. Two injuries can kill it.
We've seen that with even the top five teams in
the country. You get one or two injuries in the
wrong spot, there is no depth. That's what the NIL
has done is it's killed the depth on every team.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
You're correct, So.

Speaker 5 (40:12):
We win seven games eight games.

Speaker 11 (40:14):
I have no problem with that at all, because I
know how hard the schedule is.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
Yes, George said it best when Georgia and Alabama second
string was better than people's starters. That is not true anymore.
Their second string is playing elsewhere. So I like name
imagined likeness. I do because you never know everyone has
a true opportunity. Now they really do. For one year,

(40:40):
I don't think we'll see the dynasties that we saw
with Nick Saban, But for one year, everybody's got opportunity. Anthony,
I got your score, man, I appreciate your wisdom. Thanks
for calling in, Oh.

Speaker 5 (40:50):
Have a great Christmas.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
So, Anthony Eves, what's your opinion? Can Kentucky's football team
ever vibe for a championship in the SEC?

Speaker 5 (41:04):
I'll be real good.

Speaker 11 (41:08):
As of right now, I have to say no, just
because of I'm.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Going on track record.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
Obviously, you're going against potential teams.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
That you have to recruit against which also makes it difficult.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Now if they get lucky and they can find a
couple of diamond in the rug, because that's what it's.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
Gonna happen to be for Kentucky. Tucky's not gonna real
people in with a lot of nil.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Buddy, I don't know.

Speaker 11 (41:29):
They have nice facilities, but if you can compare the
facilities to like old man Allad they have on Aubard ls.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
U s.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
UKSE facility, their affinity looks very ringingy. I'm gonna be honest.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
You're right, gys, so you really have really get somebody
who Yep.

Speaker 5 (41:45):
Gouys, we had thirty.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
Great job, Andy and George.

Speaker 5 (41:47):
Everyone.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
We'll talk to you all Monday. I'll give out the winner.
Have a beautiful weekend, watch football, college basketball, and I
love you. Talk to you later.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
Bye bye,
