Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio. It is January the seventeenth,
twenty twenty five. My phone number is five zero two
five seven one seventy nine hundred. This is Eve's Sports
Radio Sports Talk seven ninety KRD. I've got Rick behind
the glass which will accept a few telephone calls today.
(00:21):
If you all don't know it, I'm doing my second
Simmons College High School game day. We're located at Odham
County High School, just straight past my house, and I'm
so upset. I'm gonna be honest with you, Anthony. I
thought Ballard High School. I thought we were the one.
I thought, nicest floor, nicest gym, great stage. I come
(00:45):
out to Oldham kind of. This is my first time
ever in their gymnasium.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
We're in the same boat. It's embarrassing. Jeffson County School
sinceem has.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
To do better, bald hasn't got an upgrade ball High
School to the entire facility except for the court. And
we got that ten years ago. We got we got
that the summer right before I came in twenty fifteen
is the last time we got an update there.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
But look at this gymnasy manthon he two decks. It
reminds me of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
You know, it reminds me of in North Carolina, Dudley High.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
School, Deadly Highchool, just like Dumb High School.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
I mean, it's just amazing what all these other periphial
schools have and the Jeffson County school systems left out.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, we get the best players, we can't have the
best gym.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
You can't get don't do that. Don't do that, we
can't do that. Rude.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
But what we have, guys, We've got a great show
in store for you. Yes, doctor Brown will be calling
in the principal. We've got Coach Hooks, the women's basketball coach.
Everyone knows that Coach Renner is supposed to be here.
Everyone and we know the coach Renter he ducked out
on me, which we are going to fight. But we've
got the women's coach in place, Coach Hooks sitting in
(01:47):
for us. So we're gonna talk to you early on
coach Welcome d Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
How are you here?
Speaker 5 (01:52):
You know Coach Renner told me that this is too early.
He said, Jim, I haven't seen seven am.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I know he's I'm gonna wear him out. He should
be having five am practices. His team struggling a little bit.
He's gotta crack the whip. Yeah, I mean I think
they're starting to play a little bit better. But yeah,
I mean we don't start school till nine am.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
Here.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Oh, yes, that's why he is here. I wish that's
why Mark Snyder where the practices. The guy should be practicing.
We're off to a tough start. We should be doing
two a daze every day. People do not know the
gentleman that beat Male high school, that played with me
at ballat high school's assistant coach here, that's Mark Snyder.
So you know, we didn't want Hiven to put it
(02:30):
on the floor, but if you said shoot it, that's
the person we wanted to shoot. Man, that boy could shoot. Anthony.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
You were a good shooter. That man right there was
a tremon shooter. No, no, don't down. You're a good shooter.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Good, but right there he beat mail by hisself, Anthony,
Jeff Lapping myself. Trinity didn't have good Darryl Griffin and
Bobby Turner. They had Raymonds Bond.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
In school at the time.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
At the time, Raymond couldn't play dead the cowboy, but
he would have started on about team.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
He'd have been eighth man.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Well see look he did all your he he did
on a heavy lifting because somebody over here couldn't shoot.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
I couldn't, but I could get the ball up the
floor against the pressure. We would have played his own
on you school. I could guard Darryl, but that man
right there could shoot. That likes how coach shooks.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
But we appreciate you all having us in. We have
a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
We're gonna talk about your program, of course, but I
just wanted to know before we bring doctor Brown on
the principle here you were telling me about a new gymnasium.
I was amazed by this gymnasium. So I want you
to tell all the Louisville listeners. We're an Oldham County guys.
We're ten miles from my home, fourteen miles from the
Sutherlands US.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Forty two and River Road. It's fourteen miles.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
We're on another planet also, But tell everybody what's going
on with this new gymnasium you all have here.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
So adjacent to our current gym. We're knocking down our
alternative school, our old girls gym that a lot of
people played in. We're selling the floor of it like
that's how sor it is to a lot of people here.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
And they're building a new fifty five hundred seat gym
right next door, have a center hung scoreboard, have an
humongous entryway. There's rumors of a park style floyd that
they're very excited about.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
That's rumors.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
I don't hear about your bark. I played in the
old garden. I know about the old park ca. I
played in the old garden.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
But that's not a conversation I was in. That's yeah.
But it's gonna be a huge facility, I think, attached
weight room, so very exciting stuff, you know, college style
film room for us and the boys to share, big
new locker rooms. You know, we're we're looking forward to
hosting new opportunities in there. And the idea of building
it so big here on our main campus is that
(04:42):
all three high schools can use it for graduation because
right now we go into Louisville and we eat after
all the j CPS schools and so.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
As you're in Odham County.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
But so graduation is tough. You know, you're doing it
weird times on a Sunday.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
And we gotta go pay to the park and everything.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
So come on down to the real world. Well, excellent.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
We've got Jim Hook women's head basketball coach speaking with us.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
We are at Odham County.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
We're sponsored by Jack in the Box, which we're gonna
get to one of my new sponsors, and I appreciate
everything Jack in the Box is doing to help sponsor
the Simmons College High School game day.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
So, Anthony, now that.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
We've heard about the new Gymnasier par k floor, maybe
when're you gonna bring some championships in here for your
women's basketball program.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
That's that's the goal.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
You know.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
We just we're really young team.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
So some of the things we have coming up is,
you know, I don't want to look over the current
players we have. We've got a lot of young talent
already in high school. But our eighth grade class, they
actually just had a phone call from Kyra Elsey. They
went fifty four. It's in the paper, so somebody up
in fact, Jimmy, but they went fifty four to OHO
through their middle school career.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
So they're really excited.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Young talented group we have coming up excellent, and so
we're hoping that they combined with what we already have here,
and we can we can just go back.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
To we've got Haley Woods. Sit. Do you know if
we're gonna speak to what about Haley Hey?
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Senior Haleywood here is senior Haley outstanding, outstanding senior year.
I think she's averaging just hair under fourteen points a game.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
She told me you were holding her back. She says
she's the next Scitland Clark, but you won't turn her loose.
Sounds about right, That's what I heard, coach. Man, Coach,
you have to understand.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
I think Haley's heard for taking a shot in there
in the.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Game without a doubt. No so no, excellent coach, tell me,
how long have you been here?
Speaker 5 (06:29):
This is my second year at Oldham County. I was
Henry County for seven years prior to this.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Okay, Henry County.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Right next door.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Another big gym, Another big gym. I've been to Henry
County though, that I do know. Well, Coach, I appreciate
it what we've got. We're it's seven twelve and I've
got to get some things done. So I'm gonna have
you hold right there, Anthony, not that man. George Williams
not you, man, I didn't not you, George, not in Percy,
(06:56):
the one and only ring you.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
George Williams walks into the gym.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Wait, where'd you get a hall pass?
Speaker 2 (07:01):
From the hall pass exactly to get in.
Speaker 7 (07:09):
George Walliams just arrived and has a hall pass hanging
on his neck.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
From got new Oldham County Hall monitor.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
So Gus, please, I need VI. No, no, no, not Von,
I need my sponsor. I told you to have ready
for me. Great. Great, That's all I needed.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
So I want everyone to understand that we've got Jack
in the Box is sponsoring us. They're sponsoring our eight
high school college game days.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
It's really appreciated of that. Here's opening up new stores.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
So what I've got is Louva and southern Indiana. It's
time to get excited about Jack in the Box. We
have two locations now Westport Road. In six weeks from
New Albany to Justinville, out to Preston Highway outer Loop
all the way down to Shepherdsville. We'll have eight locations
opened by the end of the year. And I just
want to appreciate him. As the owner's name is Shane Paul.
(07:58):
He's coming into town. There'll be eight new locations. We
want to make sure that we support Jack in the Box.
It is really good. There are quite a few of
them in North Carolina. I do know about them, so
I want to make sure y'all get out and we'll
be doing more. He will be on one of the
shows with us to tell us. I'm mister Paul, the owner,
and I can't wait to get him on. But we
appreciate everything that Jack in the Box is doing for
(08:20):
my Simmons College game day.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
So Vott, that's my boss. You know. She tries to
keep me into place.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
So what we're gonna do, Rick, We're at seven thirteen,
at seven fifteen, we'll get to break.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
We all know that we've got great.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Games, Anthony, high school games going up coming on with
the rit as.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
You well know, Oh we do, we do?
Speaker 3 (08:38):
And what happened last night, Anthony, We got a couple
of games last night. So you know what, Kansasy does
not like to post all the rit games, so I
have to dig and find myself. But I always go
and look into the seventh reason.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
You know.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Yes, so I know that North Oldham play Cinica last night.
They won that game sixty five to forty four.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Oh, that's a rivalry him. You've got South on them.
Tonight we'll talk about that.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Yeah, I looked up to I looked up the man's
record and the woman's records. See, yall are both five
and six oh six and five. See they mess it up.
See that's why I can't trust stuff online.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Six and five. Coach went over five hundred excellent.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
So because I don't want to get my facts in correct.
You are in the eighth region, that's right.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yes, you know.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
The funny thing, we didn't play. I don't think we
played one school from the eighth region ever. Yeah, no,
well he's not my senior. The didn't want to come
in to Jefson County School in fear factor, Anthony. This
everyone knows. I hate that.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
But online, when you come in these high schools, they
will not stay up. Yes, So what we're gonna do
is we're going to go to break. We have the
principle of Oldham County on the line. We're not gonna
make her weight. So let's get my first bill pay in.
This is e sports radio for an Oldham County High school.
What a fantastic facility. I can't believe I'm gonna ask
doctor Brown, you're tearing down the gym that I thought
(09:53):
was wonderful to build a new one.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
That just lets you know.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
There's a lot of great things going on in the
Oldham County school system. E Sports Radio phone numbers five zero, two,
five seven, one, seventy nine hundred.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
We'll be back after the break.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Welcome back to E Sports Radio at seven eighteen. We're
trying to stay on task. I'm at Oldham County High School,
right next to Oldham County Country Club, where I have
played a few rounds of golf. I'm gonna be honest
with everyone. And we just had the women's basketball coach on,
Jim Hooks, who told us about the new gymnasium.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
But we have the balls, the one and only.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I wanted to open up with her, but I know
she just went through I think a surgery. So doctor Brown, Princeville,
Oldham County, Welcome to Esports Radio.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
How are you?
Speaker 9 (10:35):
I'm great? Thank you thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Oh no, I appreciate thank you all for having us
at your high school. It's unbelievable, Doctor Brown. I walked
into a gym saying, oh, how nice would this have
been to play in and your women's coach tells me,
coach hooks, we're tearing this junk down.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
This is a disaster.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
I'm like, what, it's nice. So tell me what's going
on at your high school? How long have you been
here and what's.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Going on new?
Speaker 9 (11:00):
Well, we've got a lot going on actually, So this
is my third year at OC, and I like you completely,
I love it. I am I'm somebody. I grew up
in Louisville. I went to Mail and so I went
to that old Mail downtown for two years without right,
well yeah, kind of sye, but so like up with you.
(11:23):
When I saw the gym at OC, it reminded me
of that that kind of wrap around that old I mean,
it's it is. It's one of a it's not like
a gym that you have nowadays. But the problem is,
as with things at age sometimes I believe in the
winter when they would would try to work out in
the gym, but there's some kind of water that would
come up and you could basically ice gate. Just wouldn't
(11:44):
say for our athletes, just you know, lots of things.
Because we're really excited about the new gym that we're
going to get. Hopefully the next year or two and a.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Year or two. That would be really nice. I can't
wait to see that.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
They were telling me that you would hold some of
your graduations there for all the Odham County schools. This
I've lived in Prospect, doctor Brown since sixty nine, and
I've got you don't know him that well, but I
got my man Mark Snyder right next to me.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
He's coach Renter's assistant. We were at Ballord.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Together, but I moved out to Prospect in nineteen sixty
nine and I used to drive up here on our
way to Frankfurt to see my dad's sister.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Oldham County has exploded. It's just unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Community, community, neighborhood after neighborhood all the way out to
you all. I mean, the growth here is unreal. What
brought you to Oldham County. You've told me you've been
here three years. What brought you here other than the job?
Speaker 9 (12:34):
Uh? Well, I live here actually, I live in Crestwood,
So this is Oldham County is my community. And it
was important for me to serve the kids in the
district where I lived, and I was thrilled. I have
been so fortunate. I mean, I feel like I just
got in at the right time too. There's been so many,
so many like great new things are the superintendent of
(12:55):
district leadership and then our elected board of education. They
have really taken on this task of upgrading all the
facilities at all the schools. Of course there's one that
I care about the most, obviously, but all of us
have gotten lots of good upgrades and it matters to
the kids, you know, like our football stadium that was
that turf now is beautiful, and there's just it just
(13:18):
elevates the whole thing, you know. I'm just I'm somebody
that values what sports brings to the table. Anyway, our
new soccer field and we just a lot of new
things happening for our kids to kind of keep them
excited about staying out here for school.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Academically, what are you would you tell me if I said,
if you were telling someone and you were selling the
school's academic piece.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
What would you tell them?
Speaker 6 (13:42):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (13:42):
Man, that's a great I mean.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
My favorite teacher, honestly was a drafting teacher. And I
just that's the only thing that I had any interest
at all when I was at Valid high school other
than playing with Mark Sneider and playing on the basketball team,
was drafting you remember Jim Piercemark, Oh yeah, oh yeah,
you remember Jim. I mean, they would truly have to
come and get me out of mister Pearce's class. If
I ask you who is the teacher, and I'm putting
(14:05):
you on the spot, give me two or three that
people should know that are here, that are doing a
fantastic job.
Speaker 9 (14:12):
All right, can I can do that, But first I
need you to hear me say that Oldham County High
School will be a top five school in the state
of Kentucky. And I mean in every single aspect academically
number one. We are doing some amazing things in our
school in terms of supporting our kids. We have kids
who are at the top. We've got some kids who
(14:33):
need some extra help with reading and math. We've got
kids in every single, every single part of the spectrum.
And so one thing that I'm the most proud of
in my school is that we have a moral imperative.
We don't want our kids to leave us without being
ready for life. And we love that. We have great
pest scores and they're going to keep getting better and
we're all about it. But we also love that we're
(14:54):
helping our kids learn how to make sure that they
know how to go out in life and buy a car,
buy a house, sign a lease, make sure without being
making sure that they are fully informed of what they're doing.
So I've got a group of teachers right now who
have figured out all about how to teach older kids
how to read. If maybe they they missed out on
(15:17):
something they did, there's a couple of skills there they're lacking.
These teachers have dug in and gotten so much training
and help and that's missed. There's a bunch of them.
I'm not gonna name them all because I don't want
somebody right now. Our teachers are Their hearts are like
nothing else. I don't even I can't believe they let
me show up here every single day, Like I'm so
(15:38):
fortunate and blessed to work with people who care about
kids as much as my teachers do.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
That's an excellent job to have, doctor Brown, it is.
Before I let you go, I want to ask you
where did you go to college? Where did you get
your degree?
Speaker 10 (15:50):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (15:50):
Well, I got a lot of degrees. I went to
my bachelor's degrees from Eastern Kentucky university, and then I've
got two degrees from bell Men and one from there.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
We go.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
I just wanted to make sure because I'm getting ready
to bring on a guy. George Williams said, he's a
Kentucky guy. No Kentucky degrees. I just want people to
know exactly University of Love of Bellaman Knights and Eastern
Kentucky Colonels. Well, doctor Brown, I appreciate you allowing us
into your gymnasium and into your school.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
We're gonna try to highlight some of your student athletes.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
I'm gonna talk to a few coaches, and I just
appreciate you having the sports radio in.
Speaker 9 (16:26):
Thank you, thank you, thanks for being here.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Anthony.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Before I let you go and we bring on Mark Snyder. True, now, Anthony,
you could shoot Mark my son, you Mark and I.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Anthony.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
He's the gentleman that set up in the gym with
Martin and I and Kerry watching your games. This is
Snyder was at all your games. I know you could
shoot right Mark, you didn't want to. You could shoot
a little bit, but this one was a marksman right here.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Come on, I was off the dribble too.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
You don't take that away.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
We couldn't do that back in the day. They didn't
let you shoot off the dribble. We got pulled out
of the gate. It was just a different game.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
I had a little bit of versatility, lit up, step backs,
mid range, floater, volleyball line three.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Look.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
I don't want to pull statistics up, but you remember
what my statistic was. Junior year of high school.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
No, you shut well? I mean you really you know?
Speaker 6 (17:11):
See I know you did.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
You don't know the number d because I don't you know.
I led the country in three point percentage. I didn't
shot fifty five percent from the three line entire season.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, your junior year, you get you. It's not a
beat male.
Speaker 6 (17:24):
Did he ever go?
Speaker 11 (17:24):
Did he ever go eleven for twelve?
Speaker 2 (17:27):
No?
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Yes, I did.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
I did it.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
I did it.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
I did it.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
I did Jeral Bobby Turner junior year, junior year at
Northeast High School.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
First game of the season, Mayer, coach Hunter. I had
twelve at that game.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
I had twelve days in a row.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
I heard everybody call we.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Were almost had fifty first game of season.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
He did.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
I got a couple of statistics under the sleeves.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
Some of them are just not not in the state
of Kentake. If it would have been Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Oh no, you would have been at U of L.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
I give you credit. You did.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
I probably wouldn't have.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
So anyway, guys, we're at seven twenty six and I
know you're gonna have to run. My man, George Williams
will be stepping in. I got my man, Mark Snyder.
So Coach rennerd ducks out on us, as we both
know we're going to strangle right coach, and I wanted
to ask Principal Brown, it was so cool to get
coach Render to come out of retirement to come and
start the program back. So what's going on Mark with
(18:11):
Oldham County Amen's program.
Speaker 11 (18:13):
Well, it's it's an exciting time at Oldham County. We
got a bunch of really young kids coming up. We
have we start an eighth grader, which is to me,
it's unheard of. I don't remember any eighth graders starting
when me and you played back in the day.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
That's true, Don Jackson.
Speaker 11 (18:32):
Yeah, maybe we have a lot of young kids and
we've had a lot of injuries this year, which is
really really we haven't played up to our potential yet
because we haven't been healthy. We've had a kid break
his foot, we had a season injury and yeah, he's
Henry is down there and had another kid, Uh have
(18:53):
a bad knee injury and we lost him for the season,
and he was probably arguably our best player. Okay, We've
just a lot of turned ankles and.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Those things happen when you when you're starting a new program,
a new coach comes in, everything happens.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Mark, that's truly how it goes.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Everything goes wrong, but I'm sure with you and coach Renter,
it'll be fine.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Great hands.
Speaker 11 (19:14):
Well, we got a we got a really good staff.
We got some young guys that they're excited about coaching
and excellent there, come to the gym every day, willing
to work hard. And we're making progress.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
So you're gonna get the seventh and eight program together.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Like when Donny's Harre used to pull us from spot
to spot trying to learn the shuffle cut, yeah, the
old shuffle cut.
Speaker 11 (19:35):
Yeah, and we've almost got to the point where we're
running shovel and motions.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
It takes time, but it takes time. But no, market's
great seeing you worked.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
I asked to make sure that you were here, but
you Broughte, somebody with you. Oh yeah, I can't believe
that Terry Gates walked in this gym with you. When
he was at Ballad he couldn't play Ghost of Stats
and couldn't play Goest of Virginia almost wins a ring
and never could play.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
But you know what Donnie Saider told me, this is
a true story.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
He said, Terry Gates could never play, but whoever he
guarded couldn't play either.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
He would make sure he could make sure he couldn't play.
Speaker 11 (20:13):
It didn't matter whether it was Worthy or gene Back.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
It didn't make any different exactly.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
We're talking about James Worthy, Gene Banks, that guy to
the right of you, Anthony.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
If he guards you, you were just gonna be glad
the game was over.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
He would foul out, Anthony, he would draw four charges
on you, he'd have three blocking calls. He'd poke you
in the eyes. But I can't believe Terry Gates the banker, walked.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
In with you.
Speaker 11 (20:35):
Yeah, he's in town for the Virginia game this week.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
They're awful, Terry Gates.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Virginia is so bad they shouldn't even show up. That
program is done. I'd be ashamed to say I went
to Virginia. Now I gotta call Lee and Jeffer and say,
what happened to your program? Because their god all they
are Anthony. Virginia so bad, so bad. Hold you threw
Bennett under the bus when he when he left early
in the season.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
We all both threw Bended under the bus.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Okay, that's a different word coach.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
But when you when you lose a coach, it's gonna
doindle the team's progress. But you gotta understand when you
go national championships wise, University of Vergina is more than
your No, they've owned the a SEC. I know the
last year owned the a SEC. I give the last
few years of U of L wasn't the most exciting
times either.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
We'll say that much Kenny painting alone well wins.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Twelve wins and two seasons is tough.
Speaker 6 (21:22):
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Virginia is not a great team, but they are never
below twelve wins.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
I'll say that, slow your rope, Slow your rope, George,
you taught him too well.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
I see.
Speaker 12 (21:33):
Radio.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
It's seven thirty.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
We're at Oldham County High School before I go to
blows with my younger son. We better go to break.
We'll talk to you in a minute. Welcome back to
EVE Sports Radio. Yes it is Friday, Yes it is,

High School. Beautiful school. Just had doctor Brown on the principal.
I appreciate her letting us in. We've had coach hooks on.
(21:56):
Now we finally have a student athlete. You're my first
student ever at Ballad. We did not have any of
the student athletes. We just had all this, did y'all
have athletes at balat Watch.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
George Williams l Haley. You have to understand one thing.
The guy to the right of you watch you. Yeah,
I'm a real professional. Haley to guy to the other
side of you. But he's faking. He just got a
mic and he thinks he's pretty cussorus. He is all
shiny and stuff. You say, face for radio, that's your spotlight.
Just but I want everyone.
Speaker 6 (22:27):
We got Hailey.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Woods, George our first student athlete, one the very first one.
And we have got eshape so that we'll send it
back to the school. But welcome to the Sports Radio.
And I just want to get this out of the way.
Haley and I spoke last night, George. She says she's
in next Caitlin Clark. Okay, holding her back. Coach, just
holding her back, George. Well, you know that's what coaches do.
(22:47):
When he says Star Jared, they think they may lose
them early. They do that kind of stuff. You know,
she's saying, pay me a play me, coach.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Use me to lose me. So, Haley, we appreciate you
coming on.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
I want you to first thank your parents and all
the people that helped you get here, and then tell
me a little bit about yourself.
Speaker 13 (23:04):
Gotcha, Well, thank you mom, dad for helping me get here.
And then my name's Haley. I go to Old County
High School. Okay, play basketball.
Speaker 14 (23:11):
I also played volleyball, Yes, sport, and I went to
GSP this summer.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yes, just make sure they hear that's what they're telling me.
They can't hear you, haf Here we go. That's real cool.
Go ahead, Haley, and I am.
Speaker 14 (23:28):
I went to GSP this summer, which is Governor Scholar Program.
So that was cool. That's a little bit about.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Me, A little bit about you. What is your favorite subject?
Speaker 14 (23:38):
My favorite subject is probably English. Yes, I like to write.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
What do you want to be when you can't have
high school and I.
Speaker 14 (23:45):
Plan to major in marketing right now and digital design.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Don't miss you so kind of that area? Okay, excellent?
Where do you want to go to college?
Speaker 14 (23:54):
I'm going to UK?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Oh right?
Speaker 14 (23:56):
Sorry?
Speaker 7 (23:57):
Great, great woman. She really knows education, she knows basketball.
You became one of my number one fan. I'm your fan. Now, Haley,
what position do you play? George Jemn Haley's talking now,
Haley talking, bring you here, guard, hold her back?
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Haley.
Speaker 7 (24:12):
Haley is a guard. Miss Caitlin Clark next Kaitland Clark
of Kentucky. Uh, all right, and she's a UK fans that.
I just have so much tremendous respect for you for
what you do, Hailey. I mean, all right, how long
have you been playing this game?
Speaker 2 (24:25):
George Haley's Mike just cut the ship.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
I can't believe we're talking about University of We don't
do that her hard, no nation, even your principal is
a University of Louis graduates.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
Just look this way, Haley, Just look this way. You
don't have to worry about looking over it. He don't
even to right. What's that say on the Jackie Haley?
You tell a fan. What's that say?
Speaker 6 (24:43):
College?
Speaker 2 (24:45):
And he's talking about your college game day. He doesn't
even know what Schoelz.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Simmons college game. But here's the problem, George. Yes, she's
been wrapped in this blue too much. Got her beautiful,
slid her down the ball, let her get a little
crimson in her, and then she slided her to the
red University of Loid Jerry.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
She can't go to the pig for market now, George,
I graduated from the marketIn department university level. If you
eighteen years, well, that might be true, but that matters.
Speaker 7 (25:10):
He's going straight in uh and and representing the big
blue nation in her school. She's just not changing color.
Je Just think about that. She's gonna wear blue and
white in high school. She'll continue her education. She were
blue and white in college. It's just a beautiful thing. Joe,
I feel great.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
I got a question for Haley.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Yeah, Haley, last time you cut yourself, had a nose bleed,
what color was it?
Speaker 2 (25:29):
It's blue? The first start, it was blue.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
We bleed blue.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
It was and we all know it. No, we're not
certain politics in here. We saw what it was. We
bleed red, just like the Cardinals.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
I got a question for you. If I could Haley
in this area. I know next week the Lady's l
A T. Right, are you looking forward to it?
Speaker 2 (25:50):
I am the wait what was it of the great
talent in this area?
Speaker 7 (25:54):
And I say, you're getting ready to play in the
l I T next week in the women's LAT next week?
When's the women's LAT? But they're not playing any Okay, okay, yes,
the eighth region doesn't play, George. They used to take
little Surround the Nation tournament.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
George. Get a chance to play that Louisville invitation turn. Wow,
that's shame.
Speaker 14 (26:18):
They should let us send.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
They may help you. We'll take her Haley to Louisville
and get her straight, get her in the l I
T in louis George. I'm sorry, Haley, You're fine, Haley.
Big game tonight, big game, huge game to huge game.
The place is going to be passed.
Speaker 14 (26:34):
My favorite game, your favorite game, yes, my favorite game
of the year year.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
What are you all going to have to do to
win this game?
Speaker 13 (26:40):
We're gonna have to communicate and also just play with
the best effort that we can give. I think if
we give one effort from every single person that's how
we win this game. Our skills are there, we just
got to bring the effort in the communication excellent.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Both teams are blueing. Well, you're one game over five hundred. Congratulations,
got a new coach. You just continue to be successful.
Make sure academics first, yes, always, always first, and foremost
athletics is always fun. He's always secondary. Make sure you
strive in the classroom wherever you go. My brother went
to university can Tech. I just get people a hard time.
(27:14):
Congratulations with your college pick and the best of luck.
Thank you your parents, they've done a tremendous job with you.
Will parents do not get enough credit.
Speaker 7 (27:22):
And the last thing I like to say, helly is
I always say in any sport, enjoy yourself. I think
two many people get hung up on the game and
do not unenjoy the pleasure because you'll not experience this again.
And like me and Jerry talk about your high school career,
you remember this for the rest of your life. So
enjoy every moment, the good and the bad. It's all
gonna be excellent.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
High school. Thank you, thank you, it's wonderful being my
first college choice. I am so too go big glue,
worst Matthew is Matthew tig here.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Matthew step right into the hot seat, please, assistant basketball
coach Matthew. Practice is supposed to be going on. Sit
right down, George. Yeah, I need to see Yeah exactly.
Georgie jumped in because we to curse him out. Also, Georgie,
(28:17):
we like we like that. Okay, yes, So again we're
here Odham County High School. So everyone understands we got
Jack in the Box is our sponsor. Uh, they'll have
six or eight locations by the end of the year.
Make sure that you go out and support Jack in
the Box. We will have their owner on Paul Shane
within probably the next time that we have our next.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Simmons College High School game day. So let's go with it.
What's going on with tonight's game? What do we have
to do now?
Speaker 1 (28:45):
You having a rough start? I know, Mark Snyde, I've
heard all the woes. I know Coach Renter he ducked
out on me. That's okay, I'm gonna get Coach Renner,
trust me. Tell me what we have to do to win.
Speaker 12 (28:54):
Yeah, we were alto a little rough start with some injury,
some young guys stepping into roles, they weren't really used to.
But the last couple of games we started playing really
well and starting to get it together. We gotta play
with exceptional effort. Tonight we got to talk to each other.
This type of rivalry game, you really got to communicate
with each other in here. Not gonna really be able
to hear Coach Renner or any of the assistance. These
(29:16):
guys got to talk to each other. Got to keep
them off the glass. They shoot a lot of threes,
Run them off the line. Contest contest shots the best
of our ability, living them to one shot.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
What are you all gonna do? Everyone? Georgia and I
we talk about this, always worried about their opponents.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
What are you all going to do? Game play? And
wise offensively? Are you gonna milk the clow? Are you
gonna hold the ball? Are you gonna play fast? Are
you all pressing? Like Coach Renters Ballard's teams. I have
not had an opportunity to watch you all play? What
is your style of playing? On and counting?
Speaker 2 (29:52):
We get after it. On defense, we we do press
a lot.
Speaker 12 (29:56):
But I think tonight it's gonna be a lot of
like control of things you can control, like I said,
have exceptional effort, communicate fifty to fifty balls, limit their
offensive rebounds, keep them off the glass. Like, I think
it's gonna be a lot of things that we can control,
not what defense certainly we're playing. I think we're gonna
mix it up at times, but I think it's all
(30:17):
gonna be based on.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
What we can control. Where did you go to high
school in college?
Speaker 13 (30:20):
Me?
Speaker 2 (30:21):
I went to Oldham County High School.
Speaker 12 (30:22):
I graduated in twenty nineteen, and then I played it
Transylvania trans excellent.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Next.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Soll you're you're a veteran of this rivalry, I am.
Don't be a slugfest south is it always is?
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I mean that's this is big.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
People do not know in j Justson County how large
the rivalries are in Oldham County and the crowds.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
That you have.
Speaker 12 (30:41):
Yeah, I would say it's either the best one in
the state or one of the best. I mean everybody
in the community. You kind of grew up around each other,
so everybody knows each other. Everybody comes out of this game.
And uh, I mean Henry, he grew up here. He's
been coming to games since he was four years old.
It's kind of how the culture's built. Those guys come
to games when they're really young and they end up
playing for Oldham County. So it's a big deal for
(31:04):
all the players and especially the people that played here.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Absolutely, it's gonna be a huge game tonight. People should
make it out. Get here early. I heard though, because
they said there'll be no seats available.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
There won't.
Speaker 12 (31:15):
I know, my senior year in a couple of years
after that, there was opposing team. Their students were here
at the door before, like the bell ring and stuff
to get out of school.
Speaker 7 (31:24):
So it'll be crowded. That's gonna be crazy. Yeah, I'm
gonna have to have a seat on the bench.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
You might have.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
You think Reynor will lay you. Coach would let me,
but I don't want to. So anyway, we appreciate you
coming on. We're gonna get to our first break. Thank
you for being here. Thanks for helping coach Renner, my
teammate Mark Schneider, we go way back, that's forty five
years back.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
I heard he could really shoot it.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
He could really shoot it. No, I'm being honest with people.
He could really shoot it. I have no idea. Jeff
Lamp played pro Jerry Ez myself play pro Lee Raker
play pro. Mark was the best player on our team.
The reason we beat Mail and Daryl Griffith is Mark Snater.
I have no idea how the colleges weren't all over market.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
It makes no sense. He told me because he told
me he couldn't guard anybody.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
He didn't have to. We all had our job. Tell him, George,
that was my job. What Mark didn't have to guard anybody?
Speaker 7 (32:13):
And passing the ball did have to pass. We wanted
him to show no, I said, you talking about your job. Yeah, yeah, Yeah,
I did what I had to do. Joe, Yeah, clep
on Cloff all the way to the NBA, I saying
a bad thing. It's nice to get paid for what
you do best. In me, you do best man. We
appreciate having on EVE Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Rick.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Let's take us to break at seven forty four. We're
at Oldham County High School and we'll be back after
the break.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
This is Eve Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
We've been invited into Oldham County Country Club. Thank you
Doctor Brown for allowing us to be here. It is
Simmons College High.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
School game day. It's our second one.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
We're gonna grow this until you'll see the schools will
be going crazy when we come. I've got the George
Williams with us, and we've got Henry Markham was sitting
in with us, four year veteran of this rivalry. Back
three weeks off of ankle. Broke your ankle? Which one
right or left? My right ankle? Okay, been back for
three weeks. Team starting to play better from what the
coaches have told me.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Two.
Speaker 15 (33:08):
We've won two games this week, so it's a it's
a big step up for us.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Yeah, got some I'm going in the game, so it
should be good. Gonna be a good game, Yes, sir,
we went in tonight or not? That's the goal. I think. George,
what do you think?
Speaker 7 (33:19):
No, he say he thinks they're gonna win. He's definitely Jared.
He's telling people to come out to see what he's
gonna do tonight. Me and Henry's been talking about this.
Henry's ready to perform. He needs some fans in the
stand so he can let you know. The new Henry
has a rived. Going down, going down, So he's wearing
blue and white tonight.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
You're going down. Tell me a little bit about your
parents though, we have to talk about them. Always tell
me what they do.
Speaker 15 (33:43):
Your mom and dad my mom's receptionist over at the
elementary school.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Okay, excellent.
Speaker 15 (33:48):
My dad owns his own construction company, so they weren't
really big into sports. My grandpa played, okay, my grandpa
played on He played.
Speaker 14 (33:56):
At U of L.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
There we go. Yeah, that's all that. That's where I
get it from. I think, there you go, George, University
of Louisville, George.
Speaker 7 (34:06):
Just so long as you understand what Longhand is one
Blue and white tonight, it doesn't really matter to me.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
I'm proud of the family that's old them County blue
and White. No, but no, best of luck with tonight's game.
Continue to heal and make sure that you strive an
academic athletics is just fun.
Speaker 7 (34:22):
I got one more question, but how big is this
rivalry really to you guys, to both teams?
Speaker 2 (34:27):
How does this stand out? It's huge, It's something you
look forward to all year.
Speaker 15 (34:31):
Man, It's it's if I haven't slept this whole week,
like it's something you think.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
About all the time. A lot of trash hall, so
many fans. Oh yeah, and you know these guys too.
I mean they're right across the streets.
Speaker 7 (34:41):
So also a long you got to live with That's right, Okay,
appreciate you sitting in with us. Past that, Mike, You've
got to get in student body president something. George Williams
knows nothing about George myself either. Grady Gibson will be
sports ready.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (35:01):
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
This is not Indiana. Look what he's trying to do.
That's what's going on with without you. That's straight Hoosier.
Speaker 10 (35:08):
This is this is Uncle Sam right here. This is
what you're gonna see later tonight in the student section.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Is that what we're going to be?
Speaker 6 (35:13):
Red white and.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Blue, big, red, white and blue, packed packed. I mean,
this place is gonna be completely sold out.
Speaker 6 (35:20):
Probably there's a great chance of that.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
Well, it's street schools out in this area. Which school
is really the best? I mean, let us know something here.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
I mean I think it's the school you're sitting.
Speaker 7 (35:31):
Think you don't know, Like like in Jefferson County when
me and Jerry talk, there's only one school in the
whole city in Central Ballots. Don't debate that we don't
already know. He already know Central is the best. So
you can't sit there and say you think speak up.
No question had a chance with that, mikey Am, I
let let know what you're seeing. That's what I want
(35:54):
to hear.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
Tell me something. Tell me what's going on in the
school with the student body. What you are trying to do?
Speaker 10 (35:59):
Oh well, our goal is always just to support each sport,
no matter what it is or when it is, where
it is.
Speaker 6 (36:06):
You know, we try to just show out for our athletes.
Speaker 10 (36:08):
They make a big contribution each day and we want
to show them that we care, and.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
That's that's our goal. So that's what we try to do.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Or me, Yes, I'm a senior. Where are you going
to go to college?
Speaker 6 (36:21):
Planning on UK?
Speaker 2 (36:22):
All right, I got a question for you.
Speaker 7 (36:24):
I know that we're talking about athletics and sports and
we talk about a lot, but this is something that
you get back into the academic round. I know you're
a student body president. Tell me how that is preparing
you for later on in your life.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Well, I just feel being.
Speaker 10 (36:38):
Student body president is really preparing me in the leadership role.
And I feel people rely on me a lot through
this school and whether it's teachers or students, and you know,
that keeps me accountable to do my job and help
them just get stuff done.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Fantastic.
Speaker 7 (36:53):
I think that we talk about athletes a lot, but
we need to know about the educational side and how
schools also prepare academically and socially. Thank you so much,
thank you, thank you. Pass that Mike to the miss beautiful.
I mean, golly, Ms Collins, def God, sit right down.
Excuse take your time, take your time? What no student body,
Vice president this morning?
Speaker 14 (37:14):
I'm good?
Speaker 2 (37:15):
How are you excellent?
Speaker 1 (37:16):
We've got a big game tonight, we do, yes, so
tell me in your preparation for tonight's game.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
What's going on? What are you all going to be
doing part of the school today.
Speaker 16 (37:24):
Well, we're going to have a normal school up until
we have our pep rally today, So basically just getting
everybody hype for the game, going over, some cheers, expectations,
all that fun jazz.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
What you're you?
Speaker 14 (37:37):
I'm a senior.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Also, we're you going to go to college? And please
don't don't don't do it to me now.
Speaker 14 (37:42):
I'm going to Lindsay Wilson College for softball.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Actually, excellent, congraduate George. We just played Lindsay Wilson since
college did last week? Yes we did so, Yes, I
go they beat us. Lindsay Wilson is a really George.
Have you been there in a while? Have you been there, George?
It's grown like you would not used to play the
college junior college became.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
George, unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Now the football field, the gymnasium to care but I
mean it has really grown.
Speaker 10 (38:09):
Well.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Congratulations. So you're athlete, student body vice president. What's your
favorite sepject?
Speaker 2 (38:16):
English? English? English? But English justice everyone? English? English? Excellent?
Speaker 6 (38:22):
Do you have?
Speaker 2 (38:22):
You almost have excellent English teachers here? Because that is
the same thing.
Speaker 10 (38:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
The young lady, missus Woods told me.
Speaker 16 (38:28):
Like English, we have the same class actually, so it's
very fun in there.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Yeah, oh, I got you lively in the class, George.
Speaker 7 (38:34):
One mother question, what did you What was your platform
to run for be the vice president of this school?
Speaker 8 (38:39):
So I actually was a transfer from South oh and
you now that's even better, Jared, to be a transfer
to win the people over, she must be powerful.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
She must be.
Speaker 7 (38:49):
Powerful, George, because she's half enemy. She came from South Oldham, George,
and then took over to school here in Oldham County.
I mean tell us more.
Speaker 16 (38:57):
I mean I had wanted to come to us for
a while, But truthfully, it's just such a good environment,
such good people. And when I finally got the opportunity
to transfer, like I just was a totally different person,
much more like open about trying new things. I never
thought I'd go out for a student body or anything
like that. So it really hasn't been a gift, and
just such a great opportunity to be here is so wonderful.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
We've got that opportunity absolutely, But what we have is
the end of the show. Gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Hey, we appreciate you coming on this college. Thank you
sit in with us. We appreciate doctor Brown for allowing
us to come in to Odham County. Best of luck
with tonight's game. I hope that you all win, but again,
all of the spirit of the school, the camaraderie, everyone
coming together, make sure that both sides have a great
time here, cheer for their teens, and whoever wins wins,
(39:46):
you all will come out on top. I believe coach Renner,
that's my guy. He's a ballet bruin. George doesn't like that,
and I think Coach Renner will do a fan job.
And you've got great assistant coaches and you all are
doing a great job of supporting your school and you
all have a beautiful school. This is my first time
here and it's really a privilege for me to come through.
But what a fantastic place to go to school.
Speaker 6 (40:06):
It really is nice, is yes, it really is.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
