Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio. Yes, it is January
the twenty fourth, twenty twenty five. It's probably seven o five,
seven o six. Time to start to scurry. Beautiful morning out.
I've been out since about five o'clock. Took a shower
straight military here when he worked for Gwyn Blackburn, who
really runs me. But we got a great show in
(00:21):
store for you all today. I am sitting and one
of the greatest gyms in Jefferson County. We're in Pleasure
Ridge Park High School, sitting in the gymnasium. There have
been a lot of great players that have come through
these walls and played in this gymnasium, from the great
Randy Waddele, which a lot of you all do not know,
but without a doubt, at the West Ansel, Butch Beard,
(00:43):
Mike Rid I mean Wesley Cox. Randy Waddell was right
there with them with the Alabama. And I've got a
relative of his, Nick Waddell, is the athletic director at
Pleasure Ridge Park. He's going to kick off the show
with me. But before we get into that, I've got
my younger son on the line. He couldn't make it out.
Anth any, how are you doing today.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I'm doing well this morning.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Ye act, I couldn't go the opposite direction and then
get to work on time, so I had had to
skip today.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Gotcha, I understand. No, you do the right thing. You
got to get to your real job. We also have
George Williams sitting in with US co host on Monday
and Friday. George, how are you wonderful? How you doing? Hey? George?
Every day is a good day. But I don't have
to see you. That's true too, you know, dang, but
I don't have to see you live remotes with you
is just a nightmare. I gotta face for radio and
(01:36):
you gotta face for horror. George.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Soon did they get this microphone fixed? I got some
things I want to say to you. You know what I'm saying.
I mean, I'm sorry, George.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It is what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
Well, the one thing that I realized, Jared, that you
came here with the chron donut I know the fight
now it's lost the other day and you're a brought
the dome down here to us. So it's natural, George.
I mean, Jay, we got some professional we got some
young people in the room. We're not gonna act like
we Normalack. We gonna let them grow up and be
good people. I got young mister Waddell here. Yes, you see,
his dad was a bad man, Jay, he was a
(02:06):
bad man.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
But you were kind of soft. But you know, we
won't go into that. We won't go into that. We'll
just leave that alone. Wait till Larry comes up. We'll
get that straight about if I was soft. Well, when
I played you with soft Jay, we used to call
you shaman, didn't we? Oh? God, you know anyway, The
phone number is five zero two, five seven one seventy
nine hundred. We're at Pleasure Ridge Park High School. This
(02:29):
is Simmons College High School game day. And like we say,
game day, we're gonna build this up to where next
year we're gonna have kids kicking forty yard field goals
for ten thousand dollars. We're gonna have kids in the
gymnasium next year shooting a layup, free throw, three pointer,
and a half court shot for a car. It's gonna
be exciting. You just wait. We're gonna be the biggest
(02:50):
game day show. We're gonna take that college game day
off the map. So I just want everybody. We welcome everybody.
Thanks for coming in. Nick Whidell, appreciate you having q
PRP without a doubt. I've been out here a few times.
I've recruited out here, Larry knows. I was in your
cafeteria trying to recruit student athletes and put you remember that, yeah,
back in the day. I mean, there's no question about
(03:12):
the prestige that you all have for at PRP. But
tell us what's going on, tell us what you need
to get out about the school.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Well, you know, this morning we got a you know,
some students working on a wd RB or mister McCoy
and the welding with the Women's in Welding program. So
we got a lot of really good academic programs here,
not just welding, but like really good, really good medical
field or academies are great. There's so many opportunities for
kids today. I know, I went to school here, and
(03:40):
there's so many more opportunities today for kids than it
was when I went here. So it's definitely improved over
the years.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Oh excellent, I mean no, there's so much pride in
this building, in this school. Everyone knew when I went
to school when we had to come play Pleasure Riage Park.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
George you had to put your hard head on, no
doubt about you had to bring it, no doubt about it.
You had to bring it. George Well into place a pip.
We never played the school. We had to play it
the loveral Guardens. Tell me the low Guardens, the freedom
holl it was.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
It wasn't no coming to Central I pr Yeah, it
was a show baby.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Oh there's no pip show up all west End show
up it.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
We're still playing the same way we pressed press press
and you know you better bring your hard hat.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
So no, that's the way to play. I'm going to
get into deal Marlbury with coach Levan Kentley. I mean,
but you all had, without a doubt. People don't know
the icon that coached here since nineteen eighty eighty one
eighty two. Unbelievable what Dell has done for the school.
Second winning is coach and the state of Kentucky church
(04:43):
people don't know that. You know Billy Hicks's Billy Hicks
was almost on numerous times Scott County. We all know
what he did. But right after that it's pleasurriage park
del Marbury tell me about him.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Well, there's a difference between him and Billy Hicks. Billy
Hicks had Scott County. There was only one school in
the county. We said, right at Pleasure Edge Park, you
have competition within four miles of your school for you know,
for athletes or where they're going to go to school.
So the tradition that he was able to build, you know,
PRP always was good in basketball. So but even back
when Gary Schaeffer was a coach, but he took it
(05:16):
to the next level on the eighty six, you know,
they were one shot away from winning a state championship
and then they finally got it into eighty nine. But yeah,
Coach Maybury, he had an expectation and a standard and
you didn't deviate from those standards, and if you did,
then you just weren't a part of the program anymore.
And that's just the way it was. But the most
(05:37):
important thing is that it's continued and the legacy that
he's left is still here. When our standard is still
the standard here, you know, it's very high. So the
a level of basketball that we that we want to
play is the top level and we're still achieving that
goal right now. We're thirteen and three, playing really well
and we got a really good team this year. Really
(05:57):
excited about our boys opportunity to go to Reperenum excellent.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yeah, I gotta say one thing that I think you
left out. Coach Marlborough not only did he have a
great team to gratually, he took over community. I mean
he had such community support for the Pip basketball any sport,
but for his basketball team. I mean, the community came out.
Like I said, y y'all drove a great audience. Y'all
never had an empty gym when y'all traveled, y'all travels well.
I mean that's one thing that you got to say
(06:24):
for a coach. And when you got sixteen high schools
and you know, and you could take a community and
follow you, that's say't a lot. That's like you said
about Scott County. The whole Scott County comes out, which
all the Pip came out for you guys and y'all.
That's sainted a lot about the community and what Coach
Marlborough tradition he built over there.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
That's one great thing about I'm glad that they've stopped
the bussing because the communities will get more involved in
their schools again like it used to truly be which
will really really be good for high school sports and
the camaraderie with the students growing up together, going to school,
playing in the summer together, it'll be a much much
more competitive like the old days. Like the old days,
that's Randy, and we still have here.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
I mean, we won the state championship less year in
baseball and we almost sold out Kentucky's baseball stadium. We
had a parade on the way home from Waterson. We
had people lining up on the Dixie Highway in the
streets congratulating our baseball team and football. Remember I was
on that staff. We went to the state finals against
(07:22):
Trinity and it was four to one in the fans.
We had our entire side field up. So when Pleasure
Edge is good and Pleasure Edge is successful, our community
comes out and droves. And I guarantee you that when
we go to Reperena, we're gonna fill that place up
because we always do and we always will because our
community here is still here, you know, and it's still
very strong and very supportive of our of our athletes
(07:44):
and our students at PRP.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Excellent. Well, guys, we're already at seven thirteen, We're at
Pleasure Ridge Park High School. We know it's sponsored by
Jack in the Box. We appreciate jacking the box all
they're doing for Simmons College game day. We're sitting here
with Nick white Ll. We've got my younger Sunday, Anthony,
did you ever play Pleasure Ridge Park when you were
at ballart the one year you did not play Pleasure
Rige Park? Did you know we did?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
We never We never played pr pos. There's a few
schools that we didn't play, like PRP fern Creek.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
We never played.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
School like Eric Hoy.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
We didn't. Larry was duck in valid Nation. Gonna be
up soon. There were duck in valid Nation, Anthony, George,
just like Centrel. Well, no, we beat you all three times, George,
so you all didn't duck it. You just gotta run over.
Oh at the pit, over at the pig farm, at
the big farm. Well only easing y'all. College.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
She called us late, you know, but busting up set
us if you called us in the day, Baby, we
lit it up. Co Coach, you understands what we talked about.
You don't understand that, yeah, don't. And Anthony's too young.
Well that's all I want to know is.
Speaker 7 (08:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Larry.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
We went out to Ballard was it with z freshman year?
He dropped thirty three on them and we beat him
by like eighteen nineteen.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
What year was that, Larry? One too long ago?
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Number one?
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Yeah? Got you? Yes, I don't tell Ac. I'm not
gonna be able to get to him probably today. But
I love you, Ac, but I'm not gonna be able
to get to you today. So what we've got guys
at seven fourteen? Let me fill you in, George. On
yesterday's show, it was heated, George. It was truly heated.
David called me Louisville fan and said that I was
not enthusiastic enough, right, he says Jered Thursday's Windsday show, George,
(09:28):
I told people what, like we always do, if I
was playing University Louisville, what I would do. But I said,
that's not the key. I said that coach Kelsey was
in the running for a National Coach of the Year.
This is Wednesday. I said, the team is definitely in
the NCAA tournament. George, this is Wednesday, Thursday. But I
did tell them that the league stinks. It does it
does again? I want to tell people, David, I'm not
(09:51):
a propaganda show, but I want you all to understand
one thing. The acc amongst all Power five conferences does
not have a winning record, David, not any. I just
want you to understand. I don't just beat a bandwagon,
not any They do not have a winning record against
one Power five conference. That's the first thing. Second thing
I want him to understand, George, is that when we
(10:11):
walked in this building and David would be a part
of it because he lives in Louisville. Now you remember
my nineteen eighty championship team. How many times did we
say in the old day's George, until those state schools
come into Jeffson County and catch the real heat, we
don't know what they really have. No right coaches, We
all said that. So all, I'm saying, it's not Louisville's
(10:33):
fault that the Accent is awful, But Louisville today does
not have one quad one win and won't get one.
Listen to me. It's not Louisville's fault, but David is
not my fault. They haven't beat anybody. They haven't beat
a team that's in the quadrant one. That's almost unheard
of to be eight to zero in the ACC and
they'll have a quad one win. So, David, again, you're
(10:55):
putting it on me. It's not on me. The facts
of the matter is that I'm glad louis was winning
their tournament team no doubt better, but the league is bad.
There's not one quad one win on Louisville's resume at
this time. One. Well, let me help him out with this, Jerry.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
And I don't usually like to help you, but early
in the season you went on record and you said
that there will only be three teams come out of
the ACC. I said two, and I thought one. You know,
the more I look at it, Louisville was doing outstanding,
so they got to come out, Yes, but there is
no other team.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You look at Duke, you look at Louisville. I mean,
take Clemson because they beat Kentucky and throw the rest
of want.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
I'll give you a good one, Jerry. And this is
what really blew my mind. SMU beat Miami by forty one.
Louisville beats Stem by thirty one, exactly, Jerry. I don't
know if any coach in here can say that they've
seen a team go from a team that beats a
team by forty conference and then turn in conference team
turn around and get beat by thirty one at your
(11:52):
house and Vegas said you losing by one and a half.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Exactly. No, I mean it's just Virginia loses at Louisville
by twenty seventy to fifty and go to Boston College
and wins by twenty. Guys, the league is supposed to
be competitive, the games, just like you see with all
other league games should be close. Mike Woodson catches all
kind of heck nick because in Indiana they've got a
winning record, but when they lose, they'll lose by twenty
(12:15):
five and then and the fans want to cut his
throat for they want him out. Well that's the acc
You have no idea if it's even going to be
a competitive game against the bottom dwellers. So all I'm saying, David,
yesterday's show, I got more reviews on it. I appreciate
the call. But the deal is this. Louisville is zero
and four against the SEC. The one game that was close.
Oklahoma is at the third from the bottom of SEC,
(12:38):
third from the bottom. South Carolina is at the bottom
in South Carolina be Clemson, which is the third best
team in our conference. So David is not my fault.
I'm happy Louisville's doing well. Coach Kelsey's done a great job.
But the fact of the matter is the league stinks and.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
You gotta be truthful. And that's what we say all
the time, Jerry. We try to keep it truthful. We
try to keep out and how to insay a look
at it. When we get upset and say the NCAA
didn't take us up high enough. The reason that they're
not is because of what your conference does.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
That's just a fact. It's not my fault. And if
Duke false.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
And the bad thing about what they're really not looking at, Jerry,
is if Louisville accidentally has a two game skid, oh no.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
They can't. The league so bad it will really pull
them down. They cannot lose it all because the league
is not competitive. It's just it's really, really tough.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
It really is, right And if you can think of it,
you think of any time when the accus now only
had two teams that could come.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Out of it. Think of it.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
I mean, you know, you you usually could lose two
games and get a good win. You upset North Carolina
up said Duke. You upset No Carolina State. You're back
in the run again. Now you lose a game and
you might be out there and say you have no idea.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
So this is e Sports Radio at seven nineteen, Nick.
We appreciate you sitting in. We're gonna bring on your
women's basketball coaching. That great Coachbock does a great job.
We're gonna find out we got the women's l I
T next week. It's all black a bad man. Yo
is a bad man?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
A bad man, dude, I kind of know a little
bit about that black. Well, let me pay a few
little bills. I've got to get a commercial out before
we go. But this is Esports Radio. It is Simmons
College game Day.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
We're at Pleasureadge Park High School, of course, and we're
sponsored by Jack in the Box, Loula and Southern Indiana.
Time to get excited about Jack in the Box. We
have locations now on Westport Road opening in six weeks
from New Albany to Jeffsonville, out to the Preston outer
Loop all the way down to Shepherdsville. We'll have eight
locations open by the end of the year. What is
Jack in the Box? I didn't know myself open twenty
(14:29):
four hours a day, seven days a week. I did
not know that about Jack in the Box. We appreciate
that locally owned. There will be twelve locations by the
end of twenty twenty six. Please sport support Jack in
the Box. This is e Sports Radio. When we come back,
we're gonna have Coach Black with us Pleasure Ridge Park
High School, Simmons College Game Day. Talk to you in
(14:49):
a minute. Welcome back to EVES Sports Radio. We're Pleasure
Ridge Park High School part of the Simmons College High
School Game Day. At seven twenty three, we're going to
bring on women's basketball coach. I want to make one correction.
I try to be factual with my show. Louisville has
four Quadrant one wins. They don't have any top thirty
(15:10):
net wins. No top thirty net wins is what they
use the net rankings. When they're seed the NCAA teams,
they use the net rankings. The University of Louisville does
not have one top thirty Net ranking win. So I
just wanted to clarify Top fifty neutral site, top seventy
five road games top thirty at home is a quadrant
(15:33):
one win. Louisville has four of those. Just so that
everyone understand what a quadrant one win is and what
the net ranking is, so that we will be perfect
with this, Because David, I want to give you the
exact I don't ever want to be wrong. Now we're
back at Simmons College High School, can't be George.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
I wanted you to say one thing, though, George. I
wanted you to be kind of wrong so you could
get a new mailbox.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
See, they don't have, George. I like my mailbox a
thing called seven hundred dollars. I mean, Louisville fans get
mad at me. They'll run over my mailbox in my neighborhood.
So but I'm not the only one, George. I've got
a clip that we're gonna play Monday. Then you all
wouldn't believe this, but it's so funny. Jay Williams I
had a clip to where he told them she chefs
got mad at him because he said something about it
(16:18):
and wouldn't let him go to practice. So I want
people to know when you tell the truth, a lot
of people get mad at you. Jay was just telling
the truth. Is it is what it is. But there
it is, David. I just wanted you to know. And
it's not Louisville's fault, but it's the conference's fault, David.
That they can have an eight nine game winning streak
and not have one top thirty net That's just what
(16:39):
it is.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
What it is, like, Jerry, Like we said after the
Duke game and the Clemson game, that was nobody left
in the conference.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
There's not there's not. So we heard women's basketball coach
here Pleasureage Park High School. I can't believe it. William Black.
He hugged George Williams when he came in. I said,
oh gosh, I feel for that man. But welcome to
the show, miss Black. How are you all right? Thank
you for having me without a doubt. How you been
in Pleatridge Park. I've been at Pleasure Ridge Park since
twenty seventeen. You're a newbie man, Yes, very new. I
(17:06):
mean you still got you went by the years. Yes,
and you're talk about Larry McKinley, and you're talking about
coach Mayby been here forty fifty years. You said, do
you didn't even know your way around the school yet? Oh?
Speaker 8 (17:14):
Yeah, of course I learned a lot from coach Kenley.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Though. There you go. Oh, coach Kenley's been around forever. Yes,
that's just a fact. So tell George, how do y'all
know each other?
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Oh, Joe, I know him from really, I know him
from coaching. I know his family. I know everything about
coach Black. I know his mom, I know everything you know.
Coach Black used to coach football, and I was shocked
that he came over to basketball because he was changing
young men's lives in the Pee wee League and stuff,
and every year outstanding team Jared just not good teams,
got shanning teams.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
They were disciplined and he did a great job.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You know, we always talk about how coach handled they players,
and I looked up to him where he talked to
his players and he kept him competitive, and they were
one of those local teams that were always compared to
win the championship. So that's why I know about a minute.
Dad was an outstanding man, one of my favorite friends. Good,
why did you switch to basketball? Because I played in
high school. I always wanted to come coach girl. Did
(18:07):
you play in high school in Chicago high school?
Speaker 9 (18:10):
Okay, So I always wanted to coach girls basketball.
Speaker 8 (18:14):
So my daughter played ball. So I said, this is
where I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Boy, I probably.
Speaker 8 (18:18):
Shouldn't have left football because I was good at football.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Was that you were good at football? Yeah? I coached Chicago, boy.
Speaker 9 (18:24):
Yeah, well I'm from I'm from Louisville. I just moved
to Chicago when I got in the ninth grade.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Yeah. Answer. And my son on the other line with
Chicago State. Tell him, Manthew and tell him you don't
know about those winners, don't you, Anthony. I'm a little
bit of bottle, you know. Tell him about the training.
And he got robbed on the train on the LD,
on the damn ride. He knows, we know. But we
(18:52):
love Chicago, I'm telling you, boy, nothing like it. Michigan Avenue,
come on, man, the rich Carton. Yes, that's what we
used to stay. We were so mad when Anthony transferred.
His mom and I were like, what you're going where?
We couldn't wait to go Christmas? Tell him, Anthony, we
would all go. Honestly, My son would go Frank, my
daughter would go Ashley. We would all stay at the
(19:12):
Ritz Carlton. Christmas Eve, New Chicago would be as quiet
as a mouse. Tell him, man, we'd go out and eat.
We had a great time. We enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.
I really did. I like Chicago, that's true. I didn't
like I didn't like my Chicago. Okay, go ahead, Anthony.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Oh no, no, I love Chicago. The city was fun.
I wouldn't this is that the thing. I just don't
like Chicago in the winter. And then also, I wasn't
wasn't the biggest fan of my coach either. He didn't
really liked me that much.
Speaker 8 (19:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
From what he told me he didn't like you either.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
He didn't. He wouldn't play me.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
It wouldn't.
Speaker 10 (19:53):
It wouldn't be a really a valid reason why. Because
as long as I did bad, I did purposely fine.
I did well in pract This was like I got
recruited to never play in freshman year.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
I kind of understood.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
I was like, I'm not expecting to come.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
In here and play a lot of bites. I was like,
what ohomore year.
Speaker 10 (20:08):
I was like, man, we won like five games last year.
I better be getting submitted to something. I'm still riding
the bench.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
I was like, it was pointless. I'm like, I'm waiting
my career being a bench ride on the worst team
in college basketball right now.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
George, it happens that we feel you so coach, we
got the ladies l I t coming up. Yes, what
is your record at this time? Coach? Right now? We
are six and six hard fault games?
Speaker 8 (20:31):
Yes, all games we've done been in it. I mean
we play tough teams every year.
Speaker 9 (20:36):
Play man you uh Butler male Central, So we don't
duck from nobody.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Well, what about Fardell tonight and fid tonight? I can't
wait to ask Larry. I mean Fardell tonight. That's that's
a robbery right there. Yes, Street homecoming. We're gonna win.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Talking about That's why I like a backache. He came
on the radio and he said he's gonna win. He
cut it down, ducket. You know that's why I like
when we come on over. You don't talk about it.
Could be a good game. We're gonna win. We're gonna
talk about it. What does your team have to improve
on before we bring one of your players? What would
you want them to improve on? Coaching?
Speaker 9 (21:12):
Well, we're very young, so we need more scorn from people.
I got my My leading scores are sophomore point guard,
and everybody else is really not there yet, but they
getting there.
Speaker 8 (21:26):
We lost to quite a few seniors last year.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Okay, feeling your way, feeling our way, We've got right
here sitting to the left of me, Johigh Morrison. Yes,
wonderful young ladies, says she's gonna go to either University
of Louis or Cincinnati of Ohio or Cincinnati one of
them will get her on and find out. But once
major in a great field, tell me a little bit
about her. She's very, very wonderful lady. She works hard,
(21:49):
very academically sound. She does anything that I asked her
to do, and I'm I'm very tough on her. So
she doesn't cry. She doesn't crack under depression. Now she'll
crack a depression. And that's saying a lot, Jah, because
he is very, very demanded, is the demand in George.
He's a demanding man.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Now, I told you coach really well, but you don't
give him those slacks.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Not much, but it won't make you better if you survive.
If you survive, yes, oh great, well, we're gonna bring
her on. You've got Pharaoh tonight. Who do you open
up with in the l I t Butler.
Speaker 8 (22:19):
Butler, yes, sir, I ain't worried about it.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
You don't worried about it. Nah, we'll be like, okay,
we'll go.
Speaker 8 (22:25):
Coach, we on this side of the town.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Dang, George boy. I think George. I feel that attitude.
It is so fun. Chair coach. I asked the players.
I asked you, how many points you average? Says not many.
I concentrate on rebounding. I said, okay, I've got that.
I has Jackson, the men's player. How many points? He said?
Thirteen or fourteen? The games says we're getting better. I
(22:50):
think they're thirteen and three. I said, if you'd asked me,
and I said fifty. Trying to get fifty tonight? What
is your goal? I wanted all of it. That's all
about but anyway, coach, we appreciate you coming on Esports Radio,
Simmons College Game Day. Anytime you need us, make sure
you reach out to us. Larry's got all my numbers.
(23:13):
I mean we've been boys since truly too long. I'm
being honest. He still has some of his hair. Yes,
I have none of mine because I deal with George.
But we appreciate you. We're gonna bring on your player
right now, I need you all to flip seats. We're
gonna ready to ring you Ahia Morrison on, thank you coach.
We're at Pleasure Dge Park High School, part of the
(23:35):
Simmons College High School game day. And of course, oh
what a beautiful lady. How are you? Don't be nervous
at George, don't worry about I know it's fright night
on that side. That's fright night on that side. I
do have a face for radio, though. It's best you
look forward at the camera. Tell us something before we
(23:56):
get started. I want you to tell your parents how
you appreciate them and what they've done for you.
Speaker 11 (24:00):
I definitely appreciate my parents.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Yeah, speak up, police said, there you go, don't be shy.
Speaker 11 (24:06):
I definitely appreciate my parents. They've definitely done a lot
for me to get.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
To where I am today. It's excellent. Now, what do
you want to major when you leave Pleasureage Park High School? Engineering?
Speaker 11 (24:18):
Drafting and into your design?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Excellent? And where are you looking at going to school?
Speaker 11 (24:23):
I'm waiting on the University of Cincinnati, but I have
the choice of Ohio University and you vill okay?
Speaker 1 (24:34):
What what? What made you choose your major.
Speaker 11 (24:37):
I've always been drawing, okay, so I've always been kind
of fascinated with the layouts and blueprints of a building
or a house. So I would just kind of skip,
like I can go back from just notebooks or just
layouts of a room.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Jahiah. It's funny, but this is the God's honest truth.
The only class that I cared anything about in high
schoo I hate this. My dad was a PhD microbiologist,
my mom was an accountant, but I was a sports guy.
Only class I cared about was my drafting class. They
used to have to come and get me out of
drafting class to go to practice. I was going to go.
It was between Louisville and University of Maryland. University of
(25:15):
Maryland has one of the best drafting schools in the country.
I took a visit there. They brought me in joy
A people that built their structures up to where they
had their desk ten feet off the ground. George. They
let them build their own structures. It was unbelievable. I mean,
I was enamored. But that is the only class, honestly, God,
I cared anything about. It's just amazing what certain things
(25:37):
capture you, and that one was mine. I'm glad I
went to Louisville. I had a great career. Everything worked
out well. But yes, drafting was my favorite class. Mister
Pierce was the teacher. I only know three teachers' names
from high school, and mister Pierce was my drafting class teacher.
He'd put those little circles when you didn't get your
ninety degree angles correct and you had to redo them.
I'm like, now, tell me about the right your game.
(26:00):
What do you have to do to win? I feel
like it's definitely gonna be a win.
Speaker 11 (26:05):
We're a good team and we just have to come
with good, great mindsets and just come positive. And me,
I just come ready to play and don't think negative.
I get really I get on myself very quickly. So
just stay focused and do what I have to do too.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
And you say you work on your rebounding, and there's
everybody here knows that rebounding is a mindset. You know
it's not a top skill. You know you have to
be you got to be very tenacious to want that
bout and want nobody else to get it. What makes
you have that demeanor? And when we see you, hear
you just such a kind lad. It doesn't look like
you would have that kind of demeanor change.
Speaker 11 (26:45):
I would say definitely, couch black house. It's just the
mindset change of it's time. It's game time, like it's
time to go right and you just right?
Speaker 4 (26:58):
And do you feel like every rebounds I have to fantastic, fantastic.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
We've got twenty seconds, Jehigh, and I want you to
say one thing before you leave, parting words about what
Pleasure Ridge Park has done for you. I would say, have.
Speaker 11 (27:12):
Always knew my career, but I feel like it definitely
gave me opportunities and it helped me out just finding
who I am, the people, the community, the staff, and
trying something new because I would have never played basketball.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Promise excellent. It's E Sports Radio. We're seven thirty six.
We appreciate you coming on, Jehiah. We will be back
after the break with the one and only coach Larry
McKinley and Jackson. Can't wait to get Jackson on the radio. George,
I've seen Jackson play, You've seen him play. Got a
little game? Okay, excellent. It's E Sports Radio, Simmons College
Game Day. We're at Pleasure Ridge Park High school and
(27:48):
the gymnasium will be back in a second. Welcome back,
Welcome back to Simmons College game day. We're at Pleasureridge
Park High School, sponsored by Jack in the Box, having
a fantastic time. Of course we got the one in only. No,
we do not have del Margaret Maybury sitting in with us.
Got Larry McKinley. I love that deal, boy, I really
(28:09):
would deal. And I go so far back, but Larry,
welcome to the show. Appreciate you sitting in with us.
Speaker 12 (28:14):
Great seeing you again, man, always good.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
How long we've been seeing each other? What forty years? Now?
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Ever?
Speaker 6 (28:18):
A bit of forty, ever, bit of forty I was
trying to think on the way here, back when you
used to have your camp out at what was.
Speaker 12 (28:23):
A KCD Trinity.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
Man, Yeah, that's man. I'll tell you what. I'll give
you a shout out. I remember coming in the morning.
I told you when I got here of the songs
you used to play on the radio as you worked out,
and I remember you shooting and going all the way
around in back and never missing. And I said, man, Jerry,
why don't you average more points in the NBA? And
you said, look that ain't my job. But if I
get open shot, it better go in. And I said, man,
(28:46):
that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
And the old days you had to shoot fifty percent.
I shot forty nine percent. Shoot the heck out of it. Man,
if you didn't make shots, you couldn't shoot in the
old days.
Speaker 12 (28:55):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
I see the key. You couldn't feel that basketball, you
couldn't play. You know what amazes me. This is what
still amazes me about basketball. They gave every body a
little bit of a smile forward. You know, you played
the game. No, there was no such thing as a
one and the two. You was a guard and then
you had a guard to hand the best than the
other guards.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Coach Coach Crumb believing that we post up more than
Rodney and Scooter did. Yes, I mean I played center
in college. You take I posted up more than they did.
You take advantage of the other teams. Absolutely, y'all have
been doing that too. You've been well. First thing I
want you to talk to me about, deal course, robbery
is unbelievable. You extensively were his assistant for quite a
long time. Just what did you learn from him? The
(29:35):
second winning this coach in the state of Kentucky. I mean, period,
point blank, the best coach in Justin County school system
in my opinion ever in their great ones, Bob Graves,
Richard Smith. I mean, we've had great coaches here, but
Dale is definitely number one. What did you learn?
Speaker 6 (29:51):
You know, I mean, our staff's been together. It's my
forty second year coach, backs forty first, Uh, you know,
and I think we were blessed to all be there
pretty much throughout that course.
Speaker 12 (30:02):
And I think we each had strengths.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
And weaknesses that uh that allowed us to progress the
program as it as it is.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (30:10):
You know, it's my sixth year.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
And I remember when I took over cleaning out the
locker room and I was looking at things that Dale
and I had, you know, wanted to achieve throughout the
course of it. And to look back and say, hey,
you know we did it. It was pretty amazing. Uh
to think about those things. Uh, it was just it's
really something. I mean in the longevity. You know, we've
had four basketball coaches here in the history of the school,
(30:31):
which is it's it's unheard of.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
I mean, and uh that is unheard us. Yeah, And you.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Know, we were talking about the longevity and how it
doesn't change.
Speaker 12 (30:40):
You know.
Speaker 6 (30:40):
It's funny because Blank and I have been together so
long and it's, uh, this is what this has been
our life. We do it every day and we come
in and you know, the kids change a little bit,
but but you know it's still the same thing, the
same culture that we've had the whole time, you know,
the program that we've been here, uh, and a lot
of that, you know, Dale was the thing that I
learned the most from Dale was how to be a coach,
you know, and I think we like that in the
day's game. I don't think people, you know, have a
(31:04):
person that shows them how a coach should do things,
you know, and it's little things taking care of equipment, yes,
you know, being on time a practice play, you know,
those things, and then the discipline of it. You know,
I think people lose fact, lose track of the thing.
You know, the real thing is the kids. You know,
it's not about us, It's about the kids. And sometimes,
you know, you have to there's difficult things you have
(31:27):
to do sometimes as a coach. You know, Coach Black
and I talk about it all the time, but you know,
you've got to be the bad guy sometimes that's running
them for something missing in practice or something.
Speaker 12 (31:35):
I'm a I'm big on you know, being on.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
Time, you know, and absolutely, and I tell our kids,
you know, if you're going to be something happens, which
it all does, uh, you know, you you text me
or call me and let me know if something's going on.
And our kids have been really good about that. And
I think that's something I tell them all the time.
You know, when you get older, this is going to
come into play.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
You know, the things that you're teaching coaches going to
come into play later on in life. Amen, you know,
And let me tell you a quick story. You know,
I don't know he doesn't remember that. I used to
coach the air course the coach house.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Okay. And the greatest thing that I ever think.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
That happened to high school basketball was the thirty five
point and the clock runs the clock. They was beating
us by about forty and all you can do is
they call time. She's still up at twenty five and
you're looking at the clock. You got eight minutes, the
more to go on. The greatest thing I can say
about P I P and our team at that time
(32:27):
is the running clarke George No, the clock didn't run.
Jaed that was the problem. Then had the running clock,
I'd have been a happy hand. The clock didn't run.
It was every every time out of the time. The
greatest thing that happened to me today that the pat
tell the band director that he is one of the
best band directors. The music was fantastic. That that's all
I because that was never to tell the kids. I'm
over here, man, what are you talking about. We're down
(32:49):
thirty five. Play the best you can.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Do, the best dr George, Stop, George, go see you
all been pressing like ballat high school for forty years.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
Forty years. Yeah, and everybody knows. We said this is
what we do. We'll break it. Kids getting to the game,
they start putting it on them in Oh yeah, I
might as well just show him go across.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Mom.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
They said, well, it's not gonna work tonight, not gonna
work tonight. But y'all have done a great job. Man,
I appreciate that. It's another coach. What happened in the
l I T you know, I got to get to
the nut cutting. You're thirteen and three credit, coach. I
mean you're rolling again, man, you defeated you what's going on.
Butler got you Butler. You know, Butler's got a really
good team. I think coach Area does a great job.
(33:35):
I mean, you know, he's he gets those kids to
play hard. They do really good things. And you know,
I was just talking to George about this. You know,
we we got in a situation. You know, Jackson's top
eight in the state and free throw shooting, and I
think the layoff hurt us a little bit.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
You know.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
Now their kids had a lay off too, So I'm
not saying that the kid they had, the Wilder kid
played phenomenally.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
I had to.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
I told a college coach about him the other day.
I think that kid is really something special.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Really, I haven't seen him play.
Speaker 6 (34:00):
Yes, he's nice. He gets the Butler shooted these athletic
some size. I mean, the kids really a good player,
and uh, you know, we play them again. Uh and
you know I told our kids not life or death,
you know, obviously, but you know, you always want to
beat people. But you know, they they hit some shots
down the stretch, and our kids did too. It came
down to a couple of plays at the end. You know,
they made them. We didn't.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
And sometimes that happens you got Jay, I think I'm
not telling us coach. It is life and death. Coach. Now,
I was at the game, Coach. It was life and death.
We were playing to win. We had to kill the opponent,
you know the deal. I know, but I was at
the game. It was a bond burner, Jery.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
I mean, uh, Pip took off like the house was
on fire, Butler walked him back down. They went down
to the last second, they went into overtime. Each team executed.
I think that was one of the best games for
each team to execute everybody when they got the opportunity.
It was one of those games that we always thought,
whoever gets the ball last is going to win, you know,
(35:01):
and that's what It basically boil down to a couple
of feet throws here and there, and that was the game.
Because I think that, I mean, it was one of
the best Jefferson County has. And I always talk about
this because I go see a lot of teams and
I always tell Jerry, where did the talent go? This
young man can He's versatile, he can go outside, he
can come inside, he rebounds, you know, when he plays hard.
The team run is really good. You know what I mean.
(35:22):
So he's got a lot to do to make for
you to win that championship, and he does his job.
But I'm telling he has ranged. But it was it
was no pressure, Jackson. No pressure was something throws. I'm
gonna ask you about him in a second, and it's
something I always talk about that. I love that, y'all.
Do they pressure people? They make you have to think
because you know, the worst thing in the world is
to be tired, and I have to execute, and they
(35:43):
do a great Georgia.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
I'm so tired of watching all college basketball teams play
the same to you walk it up, run your offense.
I'll walk it up, run my offense. Just deny force
people out of their offense. No Denny Crumb, no Bobby Knight, nothing,
It's just you run your offense. I run. Mind, we
see who executes. Have a great day.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
I'm going to ask you this coach, Well, I got you,
because I'm not a coach and I want I want
to ask you.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
I played the game a long time.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
I still say that there's no way that you can
throw this ball from this corner all the way from
that corner three or four times, and I don't steal nothing.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
What's the outside man doing? Just helped me out.
Speaker 6 (36:18):
You know, I was talking about this yesterday practice. We
played the other day and we've got a young man
named Jade Andrews, and you know, the kid drove the
baseline and Jayden rotated down and went straight for that
kid and took it away. And I said, you know,
I told him, I said, probably nobody in Jim noticed
that but me and you. But I said, that was
a great play, yeah, because I mean, you know, he
knew to take that away when the kid drove. He
(36:39):
knew it was the only outlet that he had. And
we try to work a lot on you know, rotations
and stuff like that. And as you know, both y'all
played coach everything.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
You know that's one of the hardest things to get
people to do, is I understand rotations on defense exactly.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
You know, no question, Coach, we appreciate you for sure.
Continue doing great work here in the p r pr
P area. Continue helping me with recruiting when I come around.
You know, Coach Black might be at a heart on me,
but you know I need who I need for my
Lady Simon's Falcons. And we appreciate me all, we's gonna
bring off. We're gonna bring on one of your players
after the break. Talk to him about what's gonna have
(37:12):
to happen with the remainder of the season.
Speaker 12 (37:14):
He's a heck of a young man.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Are we going to the state tournament or not?
Speaker 6 (37:18):
I feel like we've got a shot. You know, when
you're talking about the acc and stuff, you know, the
little the Louisville area, bost of, y'all know this. It's
always been strong and there's a lot of good coaches,
a lot of good teams.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (37:27):
There's a lot of talent, you know, spread out. Uh,
And so you know, it's always a battle every night.
And but that's you know, kind of what you that's
why you play. You know, you want to be challenged
as much as you can win or lose. You know,
you want to get out there and see where you're at,
where you stock up against the best team since tonight.
Speaker 12 (37:42):
It's one of those one of those times, Coach, we can.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Yeah fo he leaves.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
I say this, coach, since you won't say it, you
probably one of the best five of six teams I
haven't seen this year. I appreciate me. I appreciate you
may be one of the top four, but I'm gonna
put this six.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
I'm glad you have said that. No pressure, but I
better see you at repereent the coach you know know
how we most I hope it would be nice. We
love you, Appreciate you coming on the sports radio. Appreciate
We will be back after the break. And Jackson, what
happened with those free throws? We're gonna find out about
Simmon's college game Day at Pleasure Ridge Park sponsored by
No Question, Jack in the Box, open twenty four hours
(38:16):
a day, seven days a week. We'll be back in
a minute. Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio where it's
Simons College game Day sponsored by Jack in the Box.
Of course we're at Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Mister Wadell,
I can tell you is Randy was a bad man.
That's all I'm gonna say. People just didn't get an
opportunity to watch for Andy Widelle play. But we've got
Jackson here sitting in with us. Mccull him.
Speaker 7 (38:37):
Let's catch you.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
We'll cutch you. Sorry about that. Appreciate you don need
sports radio. Yes, sir, thank you for having me. Everybody's
been throwing you under the bus. It wasn't me, it
was George and your coach right right. What happened with
these free throws in the l I.
Speaker 13 (38:49):
T man, you know, and free throw shooting is what
I kind of put myself on, Like my coach said,
I was ranked top eighth in the state and free
throw shooting.
Speaker 7 (38:58):
I haven't had a problem with free throws all year.
That game. They not falling, you know, and it happens.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
It happens without If somebody asked me about the free
throws that I missed in a big game, they'd be
talking all day long, you know, all day long. One
thing I want said I missed cut.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
The one thing that I really admire about him, and
it's hard work, is because Jerry two years ago, you know,
I cover high school basketball.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I didn't know who this young man was. The other
night I went out to the l I T.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
He was performing and he was warming up, and I
just didn't looked at warm up, not before he played
the game. I said, somebody tell me where did he
come from and who is he? And he went into
the game and he's got ranged. He can go inside outside.
So they're very versatile. They're very lucky to have a
center like that, and they're a good team. They played
well together. So I like what you're doing. Minto mcussions,
(39:47):
I say, working hard. I think you can take this
team a long way.
Speaker 7 (39:51):
Yes, sir, I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Tell me something about your family.
Speaker 13 (39:54):
I got a very supportive family, you know. I give
a lot of credit to my dad. He's a fireman
out of anchored Middletown for about in three years. He
really pushes me to be great, kind of do what
I need to do. Keeps me very disciplined. My mom,
she currently lives in Tennessee, but she's always been super
supportive of me. And uh, I can't think my stepmom
enough that stepped in. She moved up here from Florida
a couple of years ago and she's been just as
(40:16):
supportive as anybody else.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
Great. So now, big game tonight, sir, He'll bring on
doctor Brooks. What do we have to do to win
this game? Fairdale mean Fairdeale home.
Speaker 7 (40:24):
Come homecoming game.
Speaker 13 (40:26):
You know it's I mean, you guys talked earlier about
what kind of crawd PRP brings.
Speaker 7 (40:30):
It's gonna be a big atmosphere.
Speaker 13 (40:32):
I think if we stick to our game plan, stayed disciplined,
kind of focus on the task at hand.
Speaker 7 (40:36):
We should be able to pull one out.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
Coach, seems like you've taught him well, very well. Well,
best of luck, young man. I am going to get
a chance. Whytch you play, But I got to get
doctor Brooks on. Appreciate you. Thank you hitting quick. George Brooks.
What do you plan on doing uh for your future career?
I mean what you're looking at right now.
Speaker 13 (40:55):
I'm going I'm planning on going to college for basketbatching
high school. I probably major in business. If something goes wrong,
I will pursue the fire career.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Christ Thank you for a service. Be looking for sir,
Thank you, appreciate it. Doc Brooks, you're gonna take us away.
Of course. Here comes doctor April Brooks, my niece. I
rocked her when she was three days old. Welcome back, Doc,
How are you?
Speaker 14 (41:20):
I'm wonderful, so glad to be here today, no question.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Tell us what's going on with this Lady's l I
T next week?
Speaker 14 (41:25):
So it's going to be an exciting event.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
You know.
Speaker 14 (41:27):
J CPS is going to represent p RP is going
to be in the l I T. Butler, we've got
central manual. She'll come out. Yeah, come out and see
the ladies. We've got a few teams from out of county.
So bethlum g RC, you're going to be there the Highlands.
So we're gonna we're gonna take some.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Same format, same format home games home until you'll take
the fire semifinals finals to Valley High.
Speaker 14 (41:51):
School format Thursday will be at Valley, Okay, And I
want to let all the girls basketball players know that
middle school and elementary will get in free. They want
to come out and check out the big girls play.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
Excellent and he quick George and I had one of
the top women in the country playing out to break.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
From Sacred Heart. Yeah, lets you so that's exciting. It
