Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
All I want to say is, Wow, what a weekend
of sports. I mean wow, It's almost like home alone
when they're trying to break into the house.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Wow. That's all I know. It was a crazy.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Weekend of sports. A lot to talk about, a lot
we're going to get to. Of course, first things though.
Of course we got my younger son on hold. Keep
him right there. I'm not ready for him yet. Shannon Adam,
I'm so sorry. I thought I had meled your check
on Tuesday. I looked at my bag on Saturday, sit
with a stamp on it.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
It's sitting in my bag.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
So I mailed your check Shannon's Shannon Adam Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
I took it to the post office. So you will
receive it by tuesday or Wednesday. Please call in and
let everyone know that you got your big money check.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
But I'm so sorry. I just forgot. Seriously, I just forgot.
Don't listen to George. Don't believe you when he says it.
You will receive that by wednesday. Now let's bring on
Anthony to the show. Anthony, welcome to the Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Are you.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I'm doing fantastic this morning? What was a wild weekend
in sports. Obviously, all those people out there that don't
like the Chiefs, they're back in the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
They're back in the super Bowl. I don't know how
you don't like the Chiefs. I had picked the Bills.
I had told people the Bills. I just thought that
the team that won the Ravens Bills game could nip
the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
I just thought that.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
But Anthony, you're the first one to say, never bet
against Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
And I did know.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
I did, no, no, no, I was telling your mother that.
I mean, boy, even you say bet against Mahomes. But
I just thought, because honestly, Josh Allen's really good, but
Bar Jackson's really good. Joe Burrows at least did get
through the gauntlet. Joe did beat him. He's really good,
but he can't even get in the playoffs at Cincinnati.
I mean, guy, what do you say about the guy?
(01:54):
But we're we're gonna talk about that. But Andy, we
got the other guy, you know, that other guy. We
don't like to call his name out, that other guy.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
He's with it.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Who keeps letting him on here exactly?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Who lets him on the East Words radio? What's that
guy's name Shannon, Shannon?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Bring that other guy? What's your name?
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Hey, that's why you didn't pay the people they money,
you know what I mean, That's why you held out
on the people and their money. And little fellow, don't
try to act like your dad. Don't nobody likes him.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Don't.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Don't be the most dislike that in Louisville. I mean,
I like you a lot in it, but I'll see
you starting to go down that path. Buddy. You're being
the rabbit hole with it now, you know what I mean?
You know, don't you ever get a mail box?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Give me a hard time?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Okay, I appreciate that, and I knew he was a
better man than that. But you know what I mean,
And that's why I went to the banks, Jed. When
I knew that you went with buffalo man. I went
straight to the casino. I went to the casino, Jed,
I ain't ten years. Where do you want to go?
Where do you want to go? Said today?
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Jed?
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Say where you go anywhere?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Want to go anyway?
Speaker 4 (02:57):
I just thank you?
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Or with her son, don't get in that rabbit hole
with me, don't he don't be.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Los. I just climbed out about year ago. Man for
the last bro George got out. Man, people are doing
something me and I didn't know who the road.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
My neighbor.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
This is the truth. His name is Grant Cox and
he just to the left of us. He says, you
know what I mean, People say, how is your neighbor doing?
Now that the Cardinals are winning? He said, I didn't
even know people knew I live next to you. Well,
now they know, Grant, I told you.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
See why I say, you'll be in the rabbit hole.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
They're gonna get your mailbox to now, Grant Cox.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
That's all so George Anthony, Man, We've had a great
weekend in sports with George. Louisville fans get mad at
me when I talk about Louisville. But today is Kentucky Day.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
And I don't know, you know.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
We're just gonna start with Kentech well first, and he's
gonna do the high school report, which will do at
the end of OEC. But I do want people to
know that of our game day, George PRP seventy nine,
Fardale sixty eight. PRP got it done, George, mister Jackson, Yeah,
they tell you what they got it.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yes, And I also wanted to say, Jerry, that that
is starting to catch all. I've heard people answer us
where we're gonna be at next, and so it's starting
to get a little flavored to herself, bro.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
George, I got people emailed me saying they like to
hear about their local teams and their kids on and
their coaches.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
I have, George, without a doubt, we're going to grow
this without it.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
I've seen it and I don't like to say, and
I think it's fantastic. And like I say, the community
is starting to take hold, and uh, that's outstanding, you
know what I mean. For you do something that the
community that speaks about and you don't have to. I
mean people walking up to me I didn't know they
knew me and tell me I'm doing a great job
with that and keep doing it. So I just wanted
to pass on to you and that and so you
know that.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
So we're just gonna continue with it. So here's the deal, though, guys,
we're starting with Kentucky. Okay, no evans and buts about
it now, George, it's seventeen and I gotta be honest, George.
Look my it started on my left shoulder and worked
his way to its right, my right shoulder. But I
found out the corporate George, I know what the problem is.
(05:18):
People would say arthright is too much sports, all those things, right, George,
my wife's beat me at night.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
I need y'all to call the police.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
You've been.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
All all all husbands, call out the cops. Now, I
know what's wrong with it. We wake up, Coach Beard says,
I don't know what I did yesterday. I woke up.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I said, I know Lisa beats you. I think Sheila's
beating me at night.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Well, Jed, I'm gonna say it this way. I don't
think it's at night. I think it's when you're wide awake.
You just don't want to tell us. Might be trying
to me.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
But y'all, George didn't George my my left shoulder. George,
it was just Basithman yesterday.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
I'll tell you it wasn't golf. It wasn't.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
It wasn't golf, George. I have not gone. It's been
too caught. I have not swung at all since my
knee surgery.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
On the course.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
No God, I paid my membership last week, though, George,
I'm gonna be out there this I don't care what
I have to do, even I have to cut off
my left side.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
I'm gonna play golf this year.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
It is what I get ready to left. You might
go right, but you ain't going left, George.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Andy doesn't know yet, but you know it's not for sissies,
but it beats the alternative. So I'm just gonna keep
the truth. George.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I'm trying to tell you I think she's beating me
at night. So I just want you to keep the
ap b out on my wife. So here's what we
got got seven twelve George Anthony, I'm gonna give you
a little lesson that you're gonna have to do in
front of everyone, because I'm gonna get have you call
out who you think is going to win Kentucky's remainder
of the schedule. I told everybody when the season started,
(06:54):
and eight right, George, you all know that, I said.
And Shannon, my man Shannon to Do, said eleven and seven.
You know a lot of people were twelve and six.
I said, okay, I said, after watching, and when I
didn't pick it at the beginning, I picked it after.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
The sec ACC challenge.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
That's what I gave my prediction of ten and eight
when the SEC just ran them up through the a SEC.
I'm like, these teams are a lot better than I thought.
When South Carolina beat Clemson, I said, hmmm, George, that's all.
And then now we've seen, boy, what is conference this year?
Speaker 4 (07:30):
But oh man, Tuki's.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
In a dog fight, George, and a slugfest now the
rest of the season.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
There's no doubt about Jack, no doubt about it. There's
no doubt about it, Jaed. You know, you know what,
Like you said, we try to keep it real that
they fight. That that was a big loss. That was
really a big loss at home. Yes, you know, I
mean at home that that people don't realize that critical
loss that really was it was it was at Vandy, George,
But I mean I might be right advantage, but that
was still a critical loss chair because they don't have
(07:55):
a treasure.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Here's my question though, George and Augury Anthony and I
talked about it. But George Anthony, you know that Vanderbilt
now has beat Tennessee and Kentucky, two top ten teams.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
That's good jams.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yes they do, George, Yes they do. The coach has
done a great job. Yes they do.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
George, I'll standing job, not just a good job. I've
watched Bandy three times and I've watched them play the
entire game. And I used to you know, used to
be Bandy down twenty at that second half. And I've
watched them there four times. They've given several people Georgia scared.
They've given several people Alabama scared. They've given several people scares. Yeah,
they're not. They're not just a you get rolled over
no more. They're not the Bill.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Matt, No, they're not.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
They've got two top ten wins two and I mean
Alabama Tennessee and can really play Tennessee in that Auburn game. Well, yeah,
I'm not gonna change subject. But what a game I
mean with Georgia. Yeah, two top ten wins right now.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
So I mean, but like you say, that confidence is
so tough. Only thing that Kentucky's putting itself in a
bad position is because you're just played tougher teams earlier,
you know what I mean. But that conference, any win
you get your come out, it's scary.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Kentucky's three and three. You got three and three, and
I mean they're five teams from the bottom y'all.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
They've got four and.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Three Texas A and M four and three, Tennessee four
and three, Vanderbilt four and three, Mississippi State four and three,
Florida five and two, Missouri five and two, Alabama six
and one in Auburn six and zero.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
I mean Texas this one. Then they got Texas A
and L.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Yes, yes, in Texas is three and four, a game
behind Kentucky, half a game behind.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I mean, guys, it's just Shannon do something for me.
I know Shannon is busy, but before we go to break,
Shannon told me, I want you all to hear Alabama's
they've got a five game stretch. Shannon, give them that
five game stretch, please.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
I think it's I think it's more than that.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
They uh, this starts on February fifteenth. But they play
number one Auburn, They go to number twenty two Missouri,
they host number nine Kentucky, they host number fourteen Mississippi State,
They go to number six Tennessee, they host number five Alabama,
and then they go to number one Auburn to close
out the season.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
Come on, man, who dies that coach of favor?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I mean going to the computer. People have asked me, Anthony.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
People have asked me about how do they get these
schedules summer soft? I said, they're all computerized now. Coaches,
ads have nothing to do with it. They stick it in,
they spit it out. But is that just talk about schedules.
I don't want to have anybody say a word when
you look in an Alabama schedule. So, Anthony, what do
you think when we go to break of University of
Kentucky three and three with that Vanderbilt loss?
Speaker 1 (10:45):
How do you feel about the Cats?
Speaker 3 (10:48):
You know, I think we're about where they stand in
the SEC. I mean there are five We know the
SEC is the top conference in basketball right now, there's
really not a cond on it. Rights. I've been ranked
in the top twenty five at least once this season,
which is more than any conference. The hardest ap schedule
in conferences, any of any conference, Power five or throughout
(11:08):
the board. The losses that they had I think have
maybe kind of caught people more off guard more than
anything else. I think people are expecting to win against Vanderbilt,
but the wins that they did have also caught people
off guard. You know, obviously, when you're coming in with
a new coach, a fresh seat, a fresh new team,
a fresh roster, trying to build chemistry and trying to
keep up to that kind of Kentucky name that kind
of has been that way over the last couple of decades.
(11:31):
It's difficult to do. But the thing is finishing out
the season. I don't think people will be upset if
they lose to the Alabama's, the Auburns Tennessee. You know
they'd be like, Okay, those teams are kind of a
little bit better than us over the hump. But the Vanderbilts,
South Carolinas, Mississippi States, those are the games they need
to win to keep their standing high. They get it
to get their seating good at tournament. That is a
(11:53):
big difference maker, beating the teams that they think that
aren't better than them and caliber wise, I don't think
they are. But SEC is just one of those conferences. Though,
if you get all their best night, they can beat
any team in the conference.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
The team exactly, that's a fact team the SEC.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
So it makes it difficult because the SEC is a
TOMPs where you have to perform well every night. You
can't have an off night or you will lose.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
See That's why when Louisville fans get mad at me, George,
Louisville fans, I'm not being I'm just being straight with you.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
This used to be on a SEC.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
We spoke about.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
We used to see this about the a SEC. You
couldn't go to Wake the Force because Tim Duncan was
the best player in the league. You couldn't go anywhere.
Boston College had coach Skinner, which they ran out of.
Oh they were very good. I mean everybody had good teams.
Now the SEC, you cannot take a day a game
off in that league. Hey, George, we're gonna go to
(12:46):
break with us. We're we haven't done with Kentucky. I'm
gonna get into Kentucky. But George, I can tell them
is Saturday at nine, my boy coach Caliberry and Argus
saw them.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Them Raizorp Backs are coming, George. They're coming.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
When they're coming to the JA week.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
They coming to Rupp Arena saying they're gonna get on George.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Yeah, Jerry, they are gonna get one. Jerry what they want,
but they gonna get one. I can't say that. I
can't say the other word, Jared. But they don't get one.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
We got You're right.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
We might have to spell it after the break, but
they say they're coming, George.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
That's a lot of people show a lot of things
like my say, jaredy, you get the first blow. Every
bad thing.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
They can win until they get hit in the mouth,
right blow.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Baby, bey bad thing they're gonna win.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yes, sir, I'm telling you that game, it's gonna be
a dog fight.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Oh the refs better have their whistles in their mouths
every second. That's gonna be a slug fest, George. And
that's gonna we really need to request tickets, Anthony, We
really do, George. I won't know if it's too late
or not, because what I don't have a.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Simmons, Jerry. It's so sold out that you can't even
smell the green. I mean, tickets are gone for thousand
U punt of dollars, Jerry, just for one game. Now,
it's a I think it's uh packed.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
You do it so funny, George, you do so funny.
You're telling the truth.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I know people that are getting five hundred, seve hundred
dollars a ticket for these Kentucky games, for these games
coming up.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Jay getting beat Jerry, They getting beat.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
People are making money, George people.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Oh, man, come on, man, I mean this is the
heck of a common You may never see this again.
I mean, now, all we're talking about the great athlete jersey,
but think about the great coaches. Think about what the
coaches are doing with their teams that you haven't heard
of before. You know what I mean, the Texas Texas
A and M's. You know you got Mississippi, Mississippi State.
These mothers were in the running. Jerry Vanderbilt. Who other
thought vander We see vanderbiet Bilt compared to the basketball team.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
They'll be top twenty five in the new rating coming out.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I tell you that, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
After being Tennessee and Kentucky the top twenty five's wait
till the next one come out.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
They do Gods at seven twenty. We're not done with
the University of Kentucky. We've got a lot to talk about.
It's a sports rate, don't forget. Oh, we're gonna get
to that. NFL. Oh, we're gonna get to it. What
a great league. What let me say it again? And
Anthony is right, But I tried to bet against you,
But I've said all year, don't bet against Patrick Mahomes, but.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
I tried to.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
I'm glad once again, Jed, thanks, thanks.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Josh Allen is the real deal. You all know all
of them. Dad, you know Joe Burrows at least Burrows.
Joe did slip through one time. But guys, we've got
j Jaydon Daniels coming like crazy. But please, we've got Hurts.
But please, ultimate winner. Don't say anything about Patrick mahons.
(15:40):
Just leave that alone. It's him and Brady. Brady of
course is number one, he's number two. It's done right now,
right now, all of them, right now, Steve Young, it's done.
I mean right to your right. And I think Tom
knows it. That kid and Andy Reid the best.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Okay, where you put it if he wins the third
with Jane and the row compared to Baby, where you
put him if he went third, compared Tovey.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
And A one. But I'm still gonna leave Brady just
like Tiger.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I mean, does he have to get five? He has
to get five? You think he has to get five?
Speaker 1 (16:15):
You gotta get six, man, you gotta do you gotta
do it. Brady did.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
But if he do four in a row, So if
he gets four in a row, you won't put him up.
If I said, if he gets four in a row,
I said, yeah, But I said, if he gets four
in a row, you ain't gonna put.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Him at Ja Jersey. I just can't believe I can win.
I bet against him this year.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
I told a friend of mine, the only reason I
was betting against him is I just don't think they
win in the NFL. God, George, just don't bet against
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, that's all.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
You don't leave Andy out of that, sucker. Can he
coach this game?
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Jay, he can coach this game.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
He's the most innovative guy I've seen.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
He can coach the game. He is. He can coach
this game. I mean, he is amazing.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
So seven twenty two, guys, when we come back, we're
gonna continue to stay with the Kentucky Wildcats, and you
are at You've got a little listen. You're gonna have
to pick Kentucky's next twelve games. You and Anthony out front.
I already put out ten and eight and they're three
and three right now, twelve games to go. I said
ten and eight. I'm looking pretty good with my prediction.
(17:14):
We're gonna find out, though, after the break. It's Easworts Radio.
I got Anthony, I've got George. We'll be back in
a minute. Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio. January twenty seventh,
Unbelievable twenty twenty five at seven twenty six am. I've
got Anthony. I've got George on the other line. Of course,
I'm sitting in my office, which is my basement, and
(17:37):
I've got ESPN on of course, and I'm speaking with
my friends and everyone but George.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
But here's the deal, guys. What happened in the Kentucky game, George,
It's called seventeen turnovers. Seventeen turnovers destroyed University of Kentucky
on Saturday. And the reason it really destroyed them is
that Vanderbilt had five. So people are saying, oh, Kentucky
(18:02):
turned over. They did.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
But when you play a full game and you only
force your pon it into five turnovers, you're saying you
have to be perfect to win Kentucky. Now, George, Anthony,
you'll know I've said it. Kentucky can make change. They're talented,
they can score the ball at multiple positions. They've got
two Junkyard Dogs and Butler and ol Way two. I
(18:28):
mean they can really go get you. But George, the
rest don't want playing defense, and sometimes they're soft. I
hate to just be I'm just being honest with you.
Sometimes Kentucky's team is very soft. End result, they needed
to play big boy basketball against Vanderbilt. Now, they did
out rebounded by thirteen, but George and the key stretches
of the game, Vanderbilt outscrapped them. I'm telling you, just
(18:51):
outscraped them, which was unbelievable to me. There are also
things that just made me go, h. I love coach Polk,
but George, he.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Had Chandler in the game, not Chandler in the game
at the end.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
He made some things that made me go what. He
had some lineups in the game that made me go what.
It's like he disrespected Vanderbilt to a point. I just George.
There were a lot of things I watched Saturday that
made me say what I'm like, come on Kentucky again.
How many times Anthony and George have I said, Kentucky
(19:27):
loves to.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Let people be up double digits at halftime.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
And then show you how good they are and go
get them. I told him that's not a good habit,
That's not the coach needs to get that straight. So George, well,
I thought to you and Anthony, here's the deal. Sometimes
really good coaches. Coach Crumb, he subbed by time. He
didn't sub by mistakes.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Coach Cali Perry, who you all know is my guy,
he's he would always heat sub by mistakes. He just
loved to make a show and embarrass his players. But
he subbed to buy mistakes. I just think that it
should be a good blend. And here's a good blend.
Coach Crumb told me this. In the Maryland game. They
had a player, Brad Manning, was a very good shooter
(20:13):
for Maryland, and he hit two baskets in.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
A row on me.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
He called me over to him, said, Jerry, if he
hits one more shot, mild Wagner wants to play.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
You understand me, George. That's all. He didn't swing his arms,
he didn't embarrass Jerry Eaves. The fans didn't know what
he was saying to me. He was not grimacne. He
just said it because he always does. I understood what
he meant. Went back out, George. The man came open. Anthony,
I filed the heck out of him. I look at
Coach Crum said he didn't score. I'm telling y'all.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
In the Maryland game when we blew them out my
sophomore year, coach Crumb just laughed, he didn't hit the shot.
Coach I filed a mess out of him. We end
up winning, But I think coach Pok needs to start
to sub for mistakes to let people know, especially defensively,
you gotta play some defense. So any what do you think, boy,
(21:02):
I know you get on the road. What do you
think about Kentucky and the substitution pattern and the group
that he played. I mean, I know that Carr was hurt,
but I still didn't like his rotation.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
It's one of those things. I can't sit there and
speak for coach Prope because I think he's a phenomenal coach.
I've known him for a long time Utah Valley. He
kind of did the same things you in whantly played us.
He kind of played everybody at the beginning of the season,
even midway Counttery Conference, to try to get a feel
for more who he could trust playing wise down the
stretch in close games going into the tournament. So if
(21:36):
he would go ten eleven, twelve deep on his team.
He played everybody. It didn't matter what the score was
doing now and I think in higher level basketball, is
that an easier thing to do? Yes and no. It
depends on what you what your player, you know, personnel
is you know higher level seems you we have higher
level players, which is true that at the same time,
everybody on these power five teams is not a power
(21:56):
five player, and that is one hundred percent facts. Some
of these kids get on the team just because they
know somebody. A lot of is political. Some of these
players just really can't play, and people are like, oh,
he's he's a four star. I'm like the ratings and
rankings will make a kid seehim a lot better than
what he is just because somebody put an opinion out
there saying that he could play basketball. That's when you
have to learn. But he's early in the season. It's
(22:17):
only three and three, there's six games in the conference,
still a long way to go before they even get
to the SEC tournament. I think he's trying to get
a feel before because obviously, I think in my opinion
that that scare that he had with La Mamta, butther
with him getting hurt, gave him a glimpse of what
he could be without going into the season, even if
it were somebody else, even if it was Butler. So
somebody has to come in and be able to step
(22:37):
into that role and do it efficiently. He doesn't have
to go out there and play like Butler and be
a superstar, but he has to be a mediator where
he can go in there. He might not win the
game for you, but he won't go in there and
just completely lose it for you.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
I got you, good point, George. What do you think?
Good point, Anthony? Who do you think, George?
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Yeah? I think and they said a whole lot agree
with everything he said, really, And I think the one
of the reason reasons is that. And and I'll go
to the point you say, by playing people at certain times,
I think you know the Kentucky fan base, and I
think that he's trying to appease the fans as well
as trying to win games, you know, And to what
you said, and I think that sometimes caused a problem.
(23:16):
And I think you're right, Jerry. You got to watch
your matchups, and we all know that matchups are everything
in a big ball game. And I think sometimes that
the matchups haven't been there. And you look at like Butler,
you look at the point guard play, Jerry, you look
at the young man from Vanderbilt. He had an outstanding
guard game at the point guard situation and that made
a very, very big difference. And if you look at
(23:38):
Butler's several of his last couple of games, and when
Kentucky usually loses, he doesn't have an outstanding game at
the point and I think that that has been one
of the problems. And one of the other things that
I'm watching, Jerry, is the amount of free throws Kentucky waste.
And they missed these free throws in big situations. Yes,
(23:58):
And if you're going to be a championship team, j
you know, turnovers and free thos win games. You know
what I mean. Turnover a cost you a championship quickly.
And like we always say, points guards must lead. And
you've been looking at when Kentucky loses, you look at
the point guard play, and you look at rebounding and
free throws, and you see what the game is.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
No, you're one hundred percent correct.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Kentucky shot sixty one percent from the free throw line
eight for thirteen. Vanderbilt was four for eleven thirty six percent.
I mean, George, neither team that shot well at the
correct you want to win, you will not. No, you
have to make your free throws. And Kentucky's had a
problem with his free throw shooting, especially down the stretch, George,
(24:38):
in quite a few games.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
No, No, you're a hundredercent correct.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
So guys, why did I say going into it that
Bandy had a chance. Vanderbilt came into the game averaging
eighty two points a game. They can make change. Also, George,
Vanderbilt can't score. They play four guards, they play midget ball.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
They don't.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
They just make you play their way. That's why Kentucky's
big men got to grow up. Go ahead, George, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
And and like I say, when you have an outstanding point guard,
did he make a turnover? Because the last time I
heard the man give it sets, the one thing he
didn't have there was a turnover. And he and he
takes the ball from the best. When he took the
ball from Butler two times, I thought, oh my goodness,
you know at one turnover.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Yes, ever end up with You're right, one turnover.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
They only had five for the team, George, which is
a reflection that Kentucky they got to play some defense,
and coach Polk has to suck some people defensively to
get people's attention. He's got to pull them and it's
going to not offensively, but defensively.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
I understand. And this is the one thing I said, Jed,
I complained about Louis Well not having a shot blocker,
but they played such great health defense right now that
they can you know they can play. But Kentucky does
not play down low health defense. And the big men,
like you say, do not go up the block shots.
Look like they worried about how many files they have
and they'm not gonna stay in the game, you know
what I mean. You can't worry about your your files.
(25:59):
To suit you, you got to go up and intimidate.
And I don't think like you said, intimidating and making
a difference around that basket you got. It's a man.
It's a man's game down below, baby, man. You know
you can't get eight year old no more, either a
man or you.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
It's a grown man's league.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
And that's the bottom line.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Williams and everybody won't make money in that league.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Everybody, I mean, George, there's no question about it. So guys,
we're already at seven thirty five. Anthony hit me with
the high school report and the local games before we
go to our next break.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Yeah, yeah, we got tons of stuff. Obviously, we had
a couple of big games go over this past weekend,
even some last Friday as well. Obviously got to come
in first, and of course my ballot Bruns. You know,
we're on an uphill climb right now. But my ballot
did take her at Christian Academy eighty four to sixty seven.
Central Yellow Jackiet and mister Williams himself alumni beat Portland
Christians seventy six to fifty three. Manuel took care of
(26:51):
w be the Boys seventy seven to fifty five. PRP,
which we had on our show last Friday, did beat
Fairdeale seventy nine to sixty eight. Say next had a
big win over Mail ninety six to fifty eight last Friday.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
I mean they roasted Mail.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Gosh, it's a tough loss. And then furthermore, obviously we
gotta we gotta going on. We got great Crossing defeated
Mail again on Saturday. Mail had back to back games.
They lost that game by two. The Great Crossings. Yes,
that's that's that is a tough stretch for Mail to lose.
You lose one game by about thirty and then you
(27:28):
lose one a close game to a great team, the
Great Crossing. That is hard to get. But even some
more games we do have going on. Obviously, Central did
lose one of the well this weekend as well. They
lost to w B to Boys sixty eight to sixty
four in a close one and then I surprise, probably
one of the most surprising scores from this weekend is
the same next Trinity game, say next one, seventy seven
to sixty six in overtime. But Trinity scores and the
(27:52):
record over the season has been very has very been,
you know, an eye sore. But for them to go
into overtime against the number one team in the state,
but then to lose by ten points in overtime, it's
just one of those things. It's like Trinity like it's
like they're trying to figure it out, but they they're
struggling to figure it out. You take a team into overtime,
which is great, that's the one step in the right direction.
(28:13):
When you lose by double digits. Because high school overtime
is only like four or five minutes maybe.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Right, right, right, right right?
Speaker 2 (28:20):
No, I agree, So, George, I mean, it's been a
difficult week. Hit the college games, anth before we go
to break. What do we got going on? College wise?
Speaker 3 (28:29):
We got a couple of good games. Obviously, we know
that we got that big coach Kyle Perry reunion coming
back to Kentucky. Obviously that would be on Saturday, February first,
a big one looking forward to for all those Kentucky fans. Obviously,
Arkansas has had a struggle over a season in conference,
non conference, they were taking care of business. In conference,
it has been a different story. Obviously, UK sitting at
three and three and well, so I think will be
(28:50):
a good matchup. Arkansas is missing a couple of key players.
Boogie flans is supposedly be out for the season right
now with a hand injury. So that's a big loss
to them, probably their best player, the highest traffic that
they have on the team now.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
But guys, don't forget h Car didn't play, which I
said earlier in the show. Car did not play against Vanderbilt.
I don't know if he's going to play tomorrow. Do
y'all think he's gonna play tomorrow with that bad battle
against Tennessee Tennessee. If he's not healthy, don't play him
against George Tennessee. It's a slug fist that Auburn Tennessee game.
(29:25):
Don't play hurt against Tennessee because they will hurt you.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
They wait, well, oh, ain't no doubt about it, no
doubt about it, and they pull and they point guard
as a bad young man. Yes, they are physical team
there and they play well together. When they played Louisville,
I was very very impressed. Like you said, they go
to that board, they are very physical and they are dominating.
They want to dominate the game.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yes, Oh, I mean there's no question about it right
now at SEC is physical and skill. And they finished
up with Louisville and envelopment and go to Break Grown.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
And then Louisville has their game tomorrow, a Tuesday, at
seven o'clock on ACC Network. They'll be taking on the
fifteen to fifteen Wait Forards demon Deacons. Same record as Louisville.
Cardinals haven't been getting as much a notoriety, and which
is something that's funny that we talked about last week
when we had our caller call and saying that Uavelle
is a very popular team right now on the rise,
(30:22):
and and the popular is not the word that he used.
I know he used something completely different, but I know
something relevant between it says the big difference between relevant
and being a good team. I said, if you want
to pull out relevancy, Colorado was a very relevant team
first year Deon Sanders was coaching them. They weren't that good,
but they were relevant. They're Louisville. Louisville's performing better than Colorado.
(30:46):
I will give them credit right now, they are playing
up to higher standards. But at the same time, just
because the team is doing well, just because we did
so bad for so long, everything's gonna look like a
big accomplishment. We went from winning seven games in two
years to winning seven games and ten games, yeah, nine
in a row.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
And not to cut you off, I was I was
out the other day and I'll set what you're saying.
A guy was talking to me like Louisville had won
a national championship and I and I had to stop
and say, has it been that long? Have you forgotten
the Cardinals of the past. Has it been that long
that the fans Bank. This is something new that the
(31:23):
U of L is doing. I mean, you are so
right now, you are so right, Yes.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
No question, guys. We're gonna finish.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
We're gonna get to Louisville, but we got to get
to break at seven forty Shannon and take us away.
I gotta pay some bills. Thank you, Georgia and any
great synopsis. When we come back, we'll just stay with sports.
We'll talk to you in a second. Seven forty four
January twenty seventh. This is Eve Sports Radio. I've got
Anthony Eves, I've got George Williams, I've got the crew.
We're all here, Shannon, the dudes here, guys. Here's the deal.
(31:52):
We might have to have a short one because we've
got to get to a little NFL. But I just
want people to understand one thing you are with. You
just said, George and Anthony was so exactly correct, David.
If University of Louisville was rolling off games like they're
rolling them off in the ACC, and they were doing
(32:13):
it in a conference that was just half of the
SEC this year, or half of what the ACC used
to be. Give me just three years ago, I promise
you I'd be jumping up and down. I'd be a
trained seal clapping right along with you. But when I
can say to you, factually, honestly that Kentucky Louisville's won
(32:33):
eight nine games in a row and we do not
have a top thirty Net ranking win, Georgie, En David,
listen to me, Cardinal fans, I'm not propaganda. I tell
the truth. I understand because we've been bad for so long.
And yes, my man Kenny Payne did a poor job. Yes,
I wasn't mad when Josh Hurt let him go. I've
(32:54):
told you all that a thousand times. Yes, and as
KP done a super job. Yes, But guys, we have
not got a top thirty Net ranking win. So I'm
saying congratulations, But I just told you Vanderbilt is behind
us in the net ranking right now. I think Vanderbilt's
thirty four to thirty five, George, They've got two top
ten wins. That's all I'm saying. And it's not Louisville's fault.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
They got no chance to George the acc If you
don't beat Duke, you're not gonna bet a ranked opponent.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Listen to this debt. Louisville's next eleven opponents, their combined
conference record is thirty and fifty. That's all I'm saying.
Ranked opponents, they're combined records thirty and fifty. It's never
happened in the ACC. That's the only reason why I'm
not a trained seal jumping up and down with you, David,
because the league at this time is just super awful.
(33:45):
But Louisville's doing great. But guys, it is what it is.
You have to show me some quality wins. I'll be
more excited, but I'm not excited when you're not beat anybody.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
I just I mean, I guess I could be, but
I'm not. I'm sorry to.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Add to what you're saying, to show what you would
have said the other night. Had Duke lost the Wake Force,
everything you're saying would have been true. Louisville would have
fell out the top twenty five, not because they were lost,
but because Duke would.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Have lost exactly you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
Wins in the league. You got to none, and and
I know coach Kelsey was at home churn for Duke
like nobody else. Please don't lose this game, Notion.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
They have to, Yes, George, they have to and got
that Louisville doesn't lose.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
They don't want lois to lose now they need they can't.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
They can't afford it.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
And they cannot the league cannot afford it. North Carolina
struggled struggle. Hubert Davis again is another person friend of mine,
not like Butcher Beard, Butch Beard raised the boy.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
But I know Hubert well, homeboy. They almost lost to
Boston College.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
After losing to Stanford Home, I myself said they may
have to fire guys.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
It's seven forty four.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Were gonna go to break, but uh, Kentucky has got
try and schedules the Wake Forest Louisville game, which I'll
be at tomorrow, so will you. That's gonna be That
should be a quality game to evaluate Louisville better.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
But other than that, guys, it sounded.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Well, George. It depends on when you're talking what era.
I'm used to the Tim dunk and Rockey Rogers, Chris
Paul when I was.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
In the course, was top five. But right you're talking
about the last fifteen. I'm shocked.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Yes, they were decent last year though, Jorge, but I'm
shocked it's Eastwards Radio seven forty eight.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
George we've got to get the break. We'll be back
in a second. Welcome back to the Sports Radio seven
fifty one. Hopefully you're close to work.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
Be safe.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
January twenty seventh, George, I was gonna flip, but I'm not.
I'm not done with Kentucky because I think Kentucky's in
dangerous waters. So I told you and Anthony, I was
gonna ask you off for something, so I'm gonna stay
with it. I'm definitely gonna ask you. I'll get Anthony's tomorrows.
(35:58):
Being nine and nine in the conference this year, they'll
still make the tournament because I know he's he's going
to get thirteen.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Oh no, don't get it twisted. And I haven't lost
my mind. We're gonna get.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
I'm gonna have a record, my opinion, eleven to twelve
teams in the NCAA Tournament.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
I agree, Okay. I just want to be on the
right place.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Yeah, there you go, no question. So I want to
go blow by blow. I've got their schedule, I've got
their home game road games, and I want you to
tell me what you think. Now, Kentucky's gonna win their
three and three right now?
Speaker 1 (36:31):
George, got me, right? Five hundred in the conference at
home too, and one on the road, one and two. Okay,
here's what we have left for University King. First game
is Tennessee tomorrow at home. Who wins that game?
Speaker 4 (36:50):
What's Tennessee's record?
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Now, Jay No, I'll tell you. Let me. I'm glad.
I'll tell you right now, George. Tennessee is four and three,
four and three, George in the conference. Let me tell
you who they've lost it to. I'm going to help
you out. I want you to take your time this time.
They have lost to Florida seventy three forty three. Florida
beat the brakes off of them.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
They lost the Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt seventy six seventy five,
and he beat them, and they lost the Auburn George
at fifty three fifty one.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Auburn hits the three with seven seconds to go.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
George.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
What a slugfest. But Tennessee was up one before they
hit hit the three. They lost fifty three fifty one
at Auburn. So that's that's Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Okay. As much as it hurts me to say that,
I'm gonna give it in a close game to Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Okay, I got you. That's one loss. Okay, next game up, George,
Arkansas at home.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
I think Kentucky can beat Arkansas. I think they're more talent,
that they have more depth. I really think Kentucky can
win that game. And I think the crowd's gonna be
into it, and I think they'll be It's gonna be
a great game. But I do think can take it.
Take it because I don't think they'll give up a
two losses in a row and two you know, and
don't depend home.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Other than that, yeah, that could be. Yes, that could
be four losses in a row if they lose the Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
So I agree with you and three of them.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Here's the problem, though, George, want people now that Anthony
mentioned it, Now that Arkansas lost Bookie Flan the freshman guard,
they're playing a more veteran team. They're better now than
they were when they played all those freshmen. Just remember
what I tell you, Cat fans. They're better now that
Bookie's not playing.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
And I hate to say this, but I think Butler
will put the pressure on Wagner. I think that will
be the difference on god play. I think the pressure
the Butler will put on Wagner will make a difference
in the game. That that's that's what I think will
be the difference in the game.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Yes, that's going. That's so true.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
So Wagner has a great game. I think that Arkansas
w win handled it. But if containing them, I think
that that will be the difference.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Butler will do that.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
You've got after that, George, After Arkansas, you've got number
sixteen ranked Ole Miss on the road.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
You remember you saw Home Miss Playlleudville. We both saw
that game.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
I like, Okay, I think I think what they play
them on the road.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Yes, okay, Okay, at Ole.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
Miss, I'm gonna give that. I'm gonaive that one to Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
Okay, when all right, next game is at home South Carolina.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
I'm gonna give back in South Carolina's the scary team. Jay,
They've just been losing by one of two points. They're
very talented. But I think of Kentucky plans to go
deep in the tournament. They've got to win that game.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
That's a game. You've got Kentucky going three and one
these next four games, only losing to Tennessee. Okay, not
a problem. So the next game, George next game, they're
at home against Tennessee. February the eleventh, at home against Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Wow, I don't think they'll be twice. I think I'm
gonna go to Kentucky again.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Got you when Marth and You've got them rolling Texas
on the road, George.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Oh Man, you know that that travel, Jared. People don't
know how that travel is going to affect a lot
of teams. That that's not an overnight tift. You know,
that's not down the road.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
It's it's too.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
I don't like Texas. I don't think they're very disciplined,
you know. I got to know with Kentucky with that one, Jared,
I hate to say that, but I.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Do they but they popped Texas A and M who
Kentucky did defeat. I mean, George, you got Kentucky rolling.
Then next game is Vanderbilt at home.
Speaker 4 (40:40):
You've got to win that game, Yes, you gotta. You
gotta pay back.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Okay, George, they've got Alabama on the road.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Alabama, Alabama's at home, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Okay, we go for the second church Oklahoma on the road.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
Oklahoma, Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Okay, you've got Auburn on the at home Alburn Okay,
and then last game is L s U. No excuse me,
L s U and the Missouri L s U at home.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
Who do you have, Georgie, I'm gonna take I'm gonna
take Kentucky on both games.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Well, I'll talk, I'll add them up for it tomorrow.
Great job, a great job, Shannon, great job. We will
get into this NFL tomorrow. And yes, Patrick Mahomes is
the second go Great job, Shannon, love you all, will
talk to you tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
Bye bye
