Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Eve's Sports Radio. Yes, it is February thirteenth,
twenty twenty five. It's Thursday in the louisv area. If
you did not know it, my phone number is five
zero two five seven one seventy nine hundred. That's five
zero two five seven one seventy nine hundred. This is

(00:21):
Sports Talk seven ninety KRD. Got shedding behind the glass
of course, manning the phones and have you all getting up,
getting ready to go to work and do what we
do every day. Also, as we well know you've I've
got my younger son on the other line. Let's bring
him on. Ant. How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm doing good this morning. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Oh man? Just up and moving. Anthony, I woke up
this morning at four o'clock. Don't know why, really don't.
Kind of fighting the flu. All feel pretty good today,
but yesterday I was a little so so. But Anthony,
as you well know, big day in the family today.
My your oldest sister, she's I'm not gonna tell people,

(01:03):
but it's her birthday thirteen. And your older brother, Frankie,
I'm gonna tell people his age. His birthday is February thirteen.
So we've got two birthdays today, So we want to
wish Lee and Frank happy birthday on their birthdays today.
Hope they celebrate and enjoy themselves and all the good things. Anthony.
Everybody's getting older. That's a good thing. That's a good thing. Aunt.

(01:25):
Don't let anybody tell you're getting older. Tell him that's
a good thing. Truly beats the alternative. So I'm trying
to see as many as I can. And of course
my birthday was February eighth, and I had a great
time also on Saturday, so I worked just like you did.
We had two games at SEVENTHS College, so that was fun.
But at there's a lot of things going on in sports,

(01:46):
just a lot, and you know, it's seven o seven
and I just want to start first and foremost. The
game last night Louiso was so much better than these
teams in the a SEC. It's comical, Anthony. I mean,
they're just so much better and every facet they're better coached. Anthony.

(02:08):
I told people the mark of a good coach. I
mean this you all is being able to get a
shot for a person that you want to have it
in the place that you want him to have it
at the time that you want him to have it,
bottom line, And after timeouts coach Kelsey gets a shot
for Smith or gets a lob dunk for Scott almost

(02:32):
every time. Anthony, it's kind of comical to sit and
watch the games and see that Kevin Keats and his
staff have not come up with things or any of
the other coaches staffs to be ready for it. But
they do. There's no question about it. After every time out,
they're going to get a shot for the person that
they want and the place that they wanted at the

(02:52):
time that they want him to have it. Period. And
Louisville does it every time. So congratulations and Louisville, you
know we're gonna get into it, Anthony. But again, it's
hard to evaluate, Anthony. It's just hard to evaluate when
when Cardinal fans to think of this When both teams

(03:14):
have eight, nine, ten turnovers in the first half, Anthony,
and Louisville's still up fourteen to fifteen on the road,
it's not even close. They played poorly in the first half, Anthony.
They're still a fourteen at half, and of course, uh,
there's five six seconds left in the first half, Anthony,
timeout is called and coach Kelsey runs the back pick

(03:34):
Smith on Scott. Scott goes to the lob. They both
go at the lobby, the Smith steps out, they throw
a direct pass to Smith. He it's a three at
the buzzer. Didn't even surprise me at all, Anthony. It's like, hmmm.
The ACC coaches still don't have no idea what to
do with a backscreen with a shooter and a big
man going for a lob. They still, Anthony, they have

(03:55):
no idea. So I just don't know. I can't wait
for the NCAA tournament. I do know one thing, though.
Louisville's beating them the way a good team should beat them.
They're beating the breaks off these teams, Anthony. They're up thirty.
You watch the game, I mean they're up twenty eight
on the road, Anthony. Just Kevin keats. Yes, they made

(04:17):
a tough run. Somebody said something to me yesterday and
it was a perfect analogy. NC State caught lightning in
a bottle. But I want people to understand last year's
NC State team played last year's Louisville's team in the
first round of the a SEC Tournament, and coach Bain
had a chance to win that game, just so you'll

(04:37):
know they've been awful for now two or three years.
But it was lightning in a bottle and they did
play well, and Burns was the story of the tournament.
Anthony big Boy was working people in the post and
it was a lot of fun to watch. But God,
they're awful. You watched it, what did you think, Anthony?
Other game last night, I.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Watched some of the U OFFL game. Last night, I
watched more of some of the other games that were
going on outside of the ACC. I watched the Villain
of the Saint John's game. I watched the double overtime
of Texas Tech in Arizona State, which was a really
good game. Last night, I caught glimpses of the Old
Miss South Carolina game, which I thought South Carolin's goulna
be able to upset Oldness, but they just couldn't close
out the game.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
They could close. They were trying to get their first one.
They couldn't close it out and they tried, they tried,
go ahead.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
No I did, but yeah, it sounds crazy. With louill
NC State, I already had a gut feeling that Louisville
is going to already win that game by a big margin.
I didn't even watch the game, and I looked at
the score and just kind of kept up it and
they won by twenty five. So I really wasn't surprised
and my intuition was correct. It's just it's getting to
the point where these games are they're really not even

(05:47):
watchable when you're watching twenty five point blowouts in conference.
Dude did the same thing in California last night. They
beat them by twenty one at home. It's just these
games aren't entertaining. They're not even fun to watch because
you kind of know what the outcome of the game
going to be. There's just no there's no fifty to
fifty prediction last night. I could have guessed the acc
s late for probably eighty percent of the games of

(06:08):
who is gonna win, and just when it gets down
to that point where you know who's going to win
these games in competitive matches, it's just no point of
watching it. It's hard to watch because they're down, they're
up twenty points and halftimes like the games is kind
of over. Like if NC State were really gonna come
back down from a twenty five to twenty point deficit,
No it's I don't know how the acc fell off

(06:30):
so quickly and so bad.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
The lady that was announcing the game last night, honestly,
in the first five minutes of the game said about
NC State they only end up with twelve turnovers, but Anthony,
they had seven turnovers in eight minutes. She said, this
is ridiculous. And they turned it over so much. It
was like, come on, this is child's play. This is great.
Why they turned it over seven times in the first
eight minutes, it was like, what's going on. It's like,

(06:55):
it's like this can't be real, but Anthony, it is.
And congratulations to Louisville. They're killing these teams, Anthony, Anthony,
they're not full court pressing and they're blowing these teams out.
I mean, they're so efficient in the half court set
against these teams half court defense. It's comical. I mean,

(07:17):
it's just Okay, we know Duke's a quality teams. They've
got quality wins. They beat Alburn, Kentucky. They're good, they're young,
and they're good. Then you've got Louisville and Clemson. Clemson
defeated Kentucky. That's a quality win. South Carolina defeated Clemson

(07:38):
I've got and Shannon, I may be sending you a
clip from Jay billis I may. I think people need
to hear this. I may, but it won't be during
this segment, Shannon, So don't start sweating on me. But
I'm gonna send you something. But again, Anthony, you're sitting
here going okay, there's three three teams, there's not a

(07:59):
qu Forest loses, Pittsburgh gets destroyed. I mean, the bottom
dwellers are so bad. It's just it's embarrassing for the league.
It's embarrassing for the league. It's just that bad. I
watch because I want to be able to have a
true evaluation of the Cards and Anthony, their stats are

(08:24):
better against acc opponents than they were non conference. And yes,
we do know that Louisville played a very good non
conference schedule. I'm proud of him for that. Coach Kelsey
did not shy away. They played Ole Miss ranked, Kentucky ranked,
Tennessee ranked. I mean they played good opponents. Oklahoma's not ranked.

(08:44):
They lost to them, but still they played good opponents.
They played a nice but they also played u tip
eku that were challenging games that went down to the wire.
So in the December, We're like, it's a mixed bag.
They went to Rupp Arena and played really well. Chucky
burn and Edwards shot the lights out. They competed. I
was proud of them. I stayed. That's one of the

(09:05):
few games I stayed. They competed, Anthony. But since January
has rolled in and they have rolled into this ACC, Anthony,
I cannot evaluate them. Most of the time, your non
conference stats are better than your conference stats, Anthony, because
the competition level is supposed to be keener. It's supposed

(09:25):
to be people know you. There's personality battles, it's personal
team to team, you've got real rivalries are supposed to have, Anthony.
They walk in these ACC gyms. There was five thousand
people there. You've been there a thousand times. I've been
there a thousand times. In C State's arena. It was

(09:46):
a joke. I mean, Louis will embarrassed them, truly embarrass them.
Kevin Keats has got to come out of there also.
I hate that I have to say this, but he
gotta lose his job. That was lightning in a bottle
last year. You owe that run that NC State. Yes, congratulations,
but don't forget they were playing Louisville in the first
round of the ACC Tournament, and if it was this

(10:08):
year's tournament, Louisville and Carolina wouldn't have been in it.
NC State wouldn't have been in They aren't taking everybody
this year, So just to let you know, it was
just lightning in a bottle. But they're awful. I mean,
absolutely no defensive concept at all. So people that don't
know sports, I'm gonna explain something to him, Anthony. I

(10:29):
say this all the time, and I love Coach Kelsey.
He runs place. I love Coach Polk he runs plays.
I've told you all this before. Stationary passer, four offensive
players moving, Anthony, it's hard to guard. What do you
see in the ACC? What do we see? I mean,

(10:52):
what did I see with Coach Payne that I didn't like? Everybody?
As soon as they touched the ball? What do they
do an as soon as they touch the ball? Thing
happens as soon as they touch it, Andy, what does
every player do for Incis State or when coach Payton
was the head coach last year, or when I watched
Miami they dribble. First thing they do is they put
the ball on the ground. So Coach Crumb would tell you.

(11:17):
Richard Smith would have told them, Bob Coosey would have
told them. Ren ur Back would have told them. The
ball bounces. We all know it has air. You don't
have to show us.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Well.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
For some reason, Anthony, all these coaches have got dribbled
happy and they want players to dribble the ball their
ball testers, and I hate it. I mean, I just
I hate the side of play their ball testers. That's
why Coach Kelsey gets the shot he wants for the
players that he wants. Coach Polk Anthony Big Williams has

(11:49):
the ball and you see people cutting back screening trying
to slip. They clear out the low post where it
opens up, basket cuts to where they have the wrap
around passes, and you've seen Brea get dunks and you've
seen Edwards get layups for Louisville. Those coaches are running plays.
We have really really fortunate. Both teams make great selections,

(12:12):
great selections. But there's so many coaches that just bounce
the ball so much it's almost unwatchable. And I have
to watch I do, I have to evaluate the acc
and it's unwatchable. I don't get it. And they don't
get it because all you see pick and roll, pick
and roll, pick and roll. They don't even set the screens.

(12:34):
Let me explain people about the pick and roll before
we go to break, Anthony. A pick and roll is
supposed to be exercised to where the screener comes and
puts his body on the opponent who's guarding the ball.
The ball is supposed to be stationary. You can't set
a screen on a moving ball, Anthony. It's a moving screen.

(12:56):
The ball has to be stationary so that the picker
can be stationary and set his screen. Well, Anthony, everyone's
dribbling around so much that there's absolutely no way that
you can set illegal screen. I don't think the coaches
know that they should start their picking rolls with a
live dribble to where the guy catches it in a

(13:16):
three point position where he can shoot it, pass it
and dribble it. Let the screener set the screen and
go for knives out what we see. We see NBA
all the dribble, pick repick, nobody's ever touched, no one
ever comes open, and it's comical and they don't even
know it. So when we come back ed, we're gonna continue.

(13:37):
But the only thing Louisville is destroying these teams. I mean, guys,
they're destroying them like they should. Why I'm saying now
that Louisville's a quality team. They make change, just like Kentucky.
I'm gonna get into their shooting percentages in the ACC
so that people can see they are executing their offense.

(13:58):
They're making shots at a high rate in the ACC.
I mean, no, the ACC's not good. That's a fact.
The ACC's awful, that's a fact. But Louisville is still
doing what they have to do to prove their wares
this year. So we'll talk more about it after the break. Shannon,
I'm gonna send you a clip. This is Esports Radio.
I got Anthony on the other line. Anthony. We're gonna

(14:19):
get to some of the national news when we come back.
Phone numbers five zero two, five S nine hundred. There's
some interesting things in today's paper. Basketball buyout leads to
historic deficit for University of Louisville. Gonna speak about that, also,
talk to you in a minute. Welcome back to the
Sports Radio seven twenty three. Got Anthony on the other line, Anthony,

(14:41):
I'm gonna give you a little chance to get all
your stuff together. For the National News, we're gonna listen
to a clip from Jay Billis describing these basketball conferences.
I think it's pertinent to our conversation. So right after that,
we're gonna go to the National News. So please, Shannon,
let Jay Billis play.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Please anything like what we're seeing in the Southeastern Conference
this year. The non conference success that I think you
referenced a little bit earlier has not been seen since
the ACC in the mid nineteen eighties. That's so long ago.
I played in the league back then. But the biggest
difference in comparing those two is the ACC was eight teams.

(15:21):
Then it's a lot easier to have eight really good
teams than it is to have sixteen really good teams.
And the SEC has top to bottom, the best league
in the country by far. They're blowing away every other
conference with the numbers that they've put.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Up this year.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Every game in this league is quad one. It's absurd.
I've never seen anything like that. In South Carolina. You
could say, Okay, they're the quote unquote worst team in
the Southeast Conference.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
They haven't won a game in league.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
They beat Clemson before the conference started like they had
a fourteen and two record or something like that coming
into conference play. This is the most powerful basketball league
top to bottom that there has ever been, and when
you take into account the modern landscape, it is truly incredible.
And you have to give, you know, Greg Sank and

(16:07):
his staff a lot of credit because this started seven.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Eight years ago.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
This didn't just happen in the last year or two.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
I am yes, thank you, Shen and sorry that yes,
that was Jay. Billis describing the SEC and comparing it
to what he thought the ACC had its best with

(16:33):
eight members. It's unheard of. It's what we're seeing in
the SEC is really unbelievable that they could have four
number one seeds in the same conference. But he continued
to say that the ACEC has been sliding now for
five or six years, which is why I tell you
you should listen to Esports Radio because I've been telling

(16:53):
you all that, but I just get all the back push,
you know, because it's always seems like I'm directing it
to lo. Coach Kelsey is having a fantastic year. The
team's playing great. They are killing these teams. They are
beating the breaks off these teams. But I've just never
seen the league in this position. I saw it coming
and it is now here. There's no ifs, there's no

(17:16):
more emails, Jerry's you don't like Louisville. It's just a fact.
It's one of the worst leagues in college basketball. Don't
know how that happened. So anyway, let's get to Anthony. Anthony,
what do we've got going on before we jump into
some other topics.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, obviously we have some of our our local teams
have games coming up this weekend. Obviously, Louisville did defeat
in the state yesterday, but Louisville's next game will be Sunday,
but were facing Notre Dame, which obviously it conds Crazy'm
surprisingly playing Saturday, but they have a Sunday game. They're
playing eight o'clock PM on ACC network that We're playing
at Notre Dame on the road. Notre Dame is sitting

(17:52):
at eleven to thirteen, Louisville at nineteen and sixth. Overall,
so many other games we do have come up as well. Obviously,
we have Indiana takeing on UCLA Friday at EPM on five,
Ucla sitting at eighteen and seven Indiana at fifteen and ten.
Then the Saturday as well. Obviously, the Wildcats will be
taking on the University of Texas out in Austin Austin

(18:14):
University of Texas in at fifteen and teens UK's at
seventeen and seven as well, so we can't forget about
those teams as well. Duke, well, I'll leave Duke guys
when this song because everybody hates me now that your team.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
I want everybody to know. You all can tell if
Duke loses and he's not gonna talk much. That's his
tea period.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
I get so much backlash. We're living in the state
of Kentucky being a Duke fan. It's it's so funny.
I love it though, because I'm like, I'm like one
of the like five fans that the Duke fan I
live here, so there's not many of us. We kind
of stick together. But also in our high school sports
as well. Don't want to skip over on that. I
know the last couple of days they were out school

(18:53):
Monday obviously with some weather delays and the flu going
on the last couple of days as well, so JCPS
has been on at home route of school. But we
did have some games that went on yesterday. DuPont Manuel
did defeat Fern Creek ninety to fifty eight, and now
one at fern Creek. Then we also had jay Town
playing Kentucky Country Day. They defeated them eighty five to
thirty nine. Then we had Saint Xavier taken on Sire

(19:16):
at Saint Xavier than Xavier won that game eighty three
to fifty nine as well. Those are the games that
we had going on in the seventh region, some of
the games in the sixth region because I won't forget
about my guy coach Renner out there so well. We
had South Oldham did beat defeat the Sales eighty nine
to forty four. And then we also had Iroquois play
Valley who beat them fifty eight to forty three. For

(19:38):
some of the games around in the local area that
were going on as well, we'll have some more games
going on later this week for Thursday and Friday, and
we'll be getting you updates on those as well.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Exactly, and we were going to have our I'm still
waiting on confirmation on the Simmons College High School game
day at Manuel tomorrow morning. They'll be playing Shiny, but
I have not got total confirmation. Now, Anthony, I do.
I'm so glad that you brought up one of the
games because there's a young man that plays at Manual,
David David Randall. I saw it on the news. I

(20:10):
was watching Channel eleven Doug Prophet and I was watching
the news and they did a story on the young
man that he found out that he had cancer because
he had a lump on his knee and he's gone
through chemo two bouts of this. I'm praying for this
young man. But he was going to play in his
senior night. They were going to start him. He was

(20:30):
a very good player that started about eighteen two months ago,
two years ago, and he's been fighting this cancer. But
they did a great story on him. His name is
David Randall, and I just want to let his family
know anything the sports radio can do. It was really
a touching story. The young man spoke well, represented himself well.
As mother said, no pity party for him. He's coaching

(20:52):
eighth grade basketball to keep his mind off things, but
he was doing a tremendous job. And I'm so glad
you brought that game up. I can't wait till tomorrow
because I want to speak with the coach about mister Randalls.
So I just wanted people to know that. So now, Anthony,
now we got that out of the way. Up, I'm
pulling for Mike Woodson to upset my man, Mick Cronin.
I'm pulling for IU again. I'm pulling for Thosers. I

(21:15):
just add so seven thirty Anthony. And you know we
haven't said, but Terrence Edwards has played really well for
Louisville co acc Player of the Week last week. Anthony
had a great game again last night, even though he
did have five turnovers, and that's uncharacteristic of him, but
he's had a great year. Anthony. I want to explain

(21:38):
to people what transpired last night. It was just the
weirdest game I've ever watched. Louisville has seventeen turnovers on
the road. That's usually the recipe for disaster. You all
understand me. Seventeen turnovers, a coach is pulling his hair
out on the road. That's usually a loss, you understand me.

(22:03):
Usually not in this year's acc, Love had seventeen turnovers
and they were up twenty seven. I want to explain
to people, guys, these numbers just don't make sense. Louisville
last night, Anthony, I didn't even do the points for possession.
It was comical. They shot sixty three point six percent

(22:25):
from the field. You all have all heard me say,
and I want people to know in the basketball business,
when someone says fifty fifty seventy five, your team has
played really well and that's probably a win. You've heard
me say it twice for Kentucky. Fifty to fifty, fifty
percent from the two, fifty percent from the three, seventy

(22:47):
five percent from the free throw line. Kentucky went fifty
to fifty and sixty three one night, but they still won.
I got to tell you all these numbers, these numbers
are video game numbers. Sixty three point six percent from
the field, fifty seven point nine percent from the three,
and ninety point nine percent from the free throw line.

(23:08):
Ten for eleven, they were thirty five for fifty five,
eleven for nineteen. Ten for eleven, guys, it's video games. Obviously,
just sitting there watching video games, it was like, okay,
how because North Carolina State had no idea coach Kelsey
has got he owns the a SEC right now. Because

(23:30):
they do not know how to handle first thing, stationary ball.
They do not know how to handle shooters sitting back screens.
They do not know how to handle a player. The
old Anthony Mason and Chuck hit Burn or Hatley starts
backing players down. They're so frightened to go double the
ball because they don't want to give up a three pointer,

(23:50):
which I've told people, Louisville gets everything. They get Scott's dunks,
they get Hatley and little Chucky Hepburns, post up, mid
range games, five foot jump hooks, free throws. They get
the mid range out of Edwards and the threes. Edwards

(24:10):
was four for four from the three last night. And
they get Smith's threes. And they're having a field day
with the acc They're having a complete total field day.
It's comical to watch them. I mean, they just drive
teams crazy. The teams have no idea two people are
guarding one player, so when is wide open, they'll bring
three players together. And the coaches have no idea defensively,

(24:34):
no idea what they're doing. I mean, I'm sure you'll
never get Coach Kelsey to say it, but I'm telling
you he and his staff are laughing in the locker
room saying this is just without a doubt. Did they
have no idea? Okay, thank you, Yeah, we'll get to
the first caller. They have no idea how to guard
University of Louisville none. So again, guys, we've got Louisville

(24:58):
in the tournament. Kentucky's in the turn you know, you
say Kentucky seventeen and seven. Guys, they've got more. They've
got some of the best wins in college basketball this year,
neutral site, on the road, at home, Kentucky finds away injuries,
players out, they find a way to get it done.
Louisville is just it's a circus. They're just I mean,
they're wearing the acc out. So I can't wait to

(25:20):
see how both of these style of plays go into
the NCAA Tournament in so Andy. We're gonna get to
your man, our first caller. Welcome blended to sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
How are you, Good morning, sir. I hope everyone as well. Jerry.
It's an outstanding morning. We get to get up and
hear the golden pipes of the of Anthony the Great,
and of course, you know, Jerry, I would pay a
little homage to you, but I can't because you have
the greatest world champion as your producer this morning, and

(25:53):
I think you just ought to stop all this nonsense
and just pay homage to the great chandons of.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Dude an end the kind I'm slipping up on Shannon,
That's all I'm telling people. I don't play fair. You
told me Shannon is dirty, I'm dirtier. Just wait, I'm
gonna have Hogan with me in the.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
Ring with the Only thing I can tell you, Jerry
is you better keep yourself in your little basement out
there before you get really hurt. But other than that, Jerry,
I'd like to, on another note, like to make a
comment real quick about the article I read about the
deficit minus def said over at U of L right

(26:30):
now in the athletic apartment. And you know, Jerry, anybody
you know you could see this coming. Of course, you
know Kenny Payne's name. I saw was mentioned with Max
about the buyouts and all that. But well, I'll tell
you what, if you go back to a very short
history time over there, Jerry, there's a whole lot more
involved in just those two names, and we don't want

(26:53):
to talk about that any But you know, Patrino fourteen million,
I don't know how much Jerry's got. I don't know
all the ins and outs, but it's been it's been
a spending free for all over there forever, Jerry. Now
you know, balances are coming due. But the thing that
angers me the most anytime I hear a deficit at
U of L, Jerry, is what U of L did

(27:14):
to this community fifteen years ago when Patino and Jurich
and all those guys shoot off the NBA. And you know,
if you think I'm kidding, at one time, regionally wise,
if you drove to Nashville, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, we were
basically all the same cities. But now you go by
those cities, Jerry, and you see explosive growth, especially in

(27:36):
their downtown areas. And one of the main reasons why
they have something all uncommon that we don't. They have
professional sports franchises. And you know, I don't care if
you're a fan of the NBA or not, Jerry, we
really this whole area screwed. It is forever. You know,
it's revenue that's that's going to be forever. Loss that
can never be remade, and it's a real shame. There

(27:59):
are billions that floated down the Ohio River because we
let Rick Tom Jerge, James Ramsey and U of L
controlled the lease on that building down there at that
YOUM Center. And it's a damn shame because we give
up eighteen dates a winter, Jerry, because the NBA people
wouldn't come here. They couldn't have control of the dates

(28:19):
on the YOUM Center, and that's why they didn't carey here.
That's that's the bottom line. And you know, you know,
you minus if you add if you get a marketable
team here, Jerry, you put fifty dates a year in
that downtown and it blows up like Danshville and Cincinnati
and Indianapolis, and it's just a damn same. We don't
want to talk about that, but we will tell you
about Kenny Payne, you know, causing a buyout and all that.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Well, you know, let me tell you what it's. It's simple, man, Anthony.
Here's the deal. If you had opportunity to have forty
one dates at eighteen thousand people, and you had opportunity
to have eighteen dates at eighteen thousand people, Anthony, which
one would you take and you're trying to make money?
Would you take the forty one dates eighteen thousand or
the eighteen dates at eighteen thousand. Which one would you

(29:03):
take in.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
I think we all know what that self explainable answer
would be.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Exactly guys. Well, Anthony, I agree with you, but it
wasn't self explanatory in two thousand and two or when
this was really coming about. In two thousand and one,
the city of Louisville and its leaders and yes, David
Stern put in the Wall Street Journal that if Tom
Dredge didn't understand he needed a pro team in Louisville,
then dang it, they didn't deserve one. Blandon is one

(29:30):
hundred percent correct. We're talking about fourteen million, we're talking
about seven million. You'll never get this city nor its
leaders to talk about the seventeen to eighteen billion and
tax revenue dollars we could have had. And that's what
it is. Okay, sees already say that they've brought about
seventeen or eighteen billion, and there's short time there. Guys.

(29:51):
You're talking billions of tax revenue money. So again, Blandon,
I do myself get a little frustrated when I see
what our paper will write. I will not ever tell
this community. The stone hard truth. It's not going to
do it. It's not it's just not going to do it, period,

(30:12):
point blank. They're going to say it never was here.
I was on Anthony was a little bitty baby and
he was probably three four years old, and I was
coaching the Charlotte Hornets and we were coming to Louisville.
No ifs, no ants, no buds. Paul Silence is asking me,
where do you buy homes here? Do you all understand? Period?

(30:34):
Done deal? And then the community started to push back.
Blanded coach Matino and Tom drid said we did not
need it. We could do it without a pro franchise.
That's a fact. I want people to know. That's a fact.
It's no more fiction. I don't care what they tell you.
They're lion. All you have to do is google it.
You can google David Sturney's decease today. You can google it.

(30:57):
It's in quotes, and it costs the city. It's costed.
So now we're trying to hope we can keep you
Manna in the city. Guys. But if there was a
pro team here, Humana wouln't even think about leaving. People
do not want to admit the mistakes that they made,
and they'll never for Louisville to get a pro franchise.
I just don't think it will ever happen again.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
That's all very, you know, very at the end of
the day, that's just the fattest part of this called
old Jerry. At the end of the day is you
know they have the Chamber of Commerce in Oklahoma City.
You can google this if you think I'm wrong. They
released a bunny study. Since the Oklahoma thunder have got there,
the NBA team, they've generated to date seventeen and a
half billion dollars in revenue for that city. And right

(31:43):
now U of LA is crying over fifteen million shortfall
the city. Right now, the citizens of this city should
revolt and shouldn't buy a take it over there for nothing.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Now they should and they should go to the games.
Coach Kelsey's doing a great job. You can't do that blanding.
The bottom of all that is they did it cost
them they he is, but the former administration. Truly, that's
when people keep telling me about these monuments and statues,
they are never not if they tell the truth, the
city will never recover what it lost. Period point blame it,

(32:18):
will never do it. That's all there is to it. Yes,
Coach Kelsey, I think he's gonna bring Louisville back. They're
back to averaging eighteen thousand people. I've been there. That's
a great thing. But the city needs it. We needed everybody.
Kentucky fans. I've said that before. Listen to me closely,
you all Kentucky fans, Indiana fans, Western Kentucky fans, Louisville fans.
We need that young center to be viable because it's

(32:41):
our money. Guys. The city doesn't have a printing press.
People sitting there riding in your cars, listen to me.
The city does not have a printing press. That's your money.
The state doesn't have a printing press. That's your money.
So when those bonds come back up and they're trying
to renegotiate and fix them, if they don't work out,
all it is is public money's gonna be paying for
that place on mistakes that people made. We needed another tenant, period.

(33:06):
So Bland a great call.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Yes, I was very up to that.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
You already took me to it, thank you. That was
I was going to get to it. But that's what
this basketball buyout leads to historic deficit for Louisville, and guys, yes,
they're talking about seven million bucks or fourteen million bucks. Guys,
you should be looking at seventeen eighteen billion dollars in
tax revenue lost on decisions for people lining their own pockets. Period.

(33:33):
People hate me for this because I'm going to tell
you the truth. I've done stories on it. It does
come back up. I didn't think about taking it there, Blanding,
you did, but that is correct. I was even I
had forgotten, and I was looking at seven million dollars. Okay,
fourteen million, they can make that up. Coach Kelsey's doing
a great job. We need to pack the arena. But

(33:55):
Blanding one hundred percent correct. The city will never recoup
seventeen eighteen billion. And the hornets were coming. No ifs,
no ands, no bunch. You had bad leadership. Nobody wants
to say that they grew Louisville. I'm glad with the
city this size, you should be able to grow Louisville.
But you had bad leadership period. Point playing so any
we're gonna get to break. When we come back, We're

(34:17):
gonna talk about just some of the other things that
are going on. You're gonna fill us in on this
NBA thing. I know you're on your way to work,
but if you can, I if you fill us in
on what's gonna go on with this All Star game?
E Sports Radio seven forty three, we'll talk to you
in a minute. Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio seven
point fifty. We had to run two breaks. We kind

(34:37):
of got carried away, Anthony I did. We had. We
got a little carried away with that last caller talking
about the deficit. But factual everything that was said was
one hundred percent factual. Now, and here's the deal. Since
we were talking about the NBA and of course Louisville
could have had NBA franchise, which would have been fantastic.
What's going on with this NBA All Star Game? These

(34:59):
three teams and all the different things that they're trying
to do to add excitement. What's going on.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
So fun? In fact, the NBA they're actually doing, they're
doing four teams now. So NBA All Star Game, obviously
it's the fourteen through the sixteen they're hosting in San
Francisco out in the Chase Center in the Golden State
Warriors Arena Friday, they're doing just a couple of smaller
events that the NBA crossover fan experience, the Ruffles NBA
All Star Celebrity Game, the Castle Rising Stars Challenge. Then

(35:28):
going into Saturday, they'll have the first NBA All Star
Practice presented by AT and T, the HBCU Classic presented
by eighteen Team, and then the State Farm All Stars
Saturday Night, which features a Skilled Challenge, three point contest,
and then the Slam Dump Contest. Sunday, February sixteenth, they'll
be hosting the seventy fourth NBA All Star Game, which
still doing a no format that includes a fourteen mini

(35:50):
tournament at the Chase Center this year, so throughout the
weekend they will also have Concept Pier forty eight with
performances by Zed, the Chain, Snookers and Swede, soill have
a couple of artists there. They're doing it in a format,
so on the fourteenth they're doing Team T versus Team C,
and then they have Team IN versus Team G League,
so the G League will have a team it is
as well, and then they have a couple of other
things going on too as well. Obviously with a couple of

(36:13):
the Celebrity game on February sixteenth, throughout the Global Stars
versus the Young Stars, and also have the Rising Stars
versus the OG So there's there's a million different formats
going on for this, a little bit more complicated probably
than it needs to be.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Is it overkill? You just killed me telling me everything
that just happened. Is it overkill?

Speaker 2 (36:34):
Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot going on. I
read that off quick too, but it's it's a lot
going on. If you actually saw the format for everything
that they're doing just for an All Star weekend. I
like the old school All Star weekend. I like when
they keep it simple. You do you know, you do?
You do your Rising Stars, you know, the Rookie versus
Sophomore game that everyone likes. Then you have, obviously you

(36:55):
have your your three point contests, done contests and skills Challenge,
and then you can do have your celebrity All Star
game after that All Star Game and then call it
a weekend. I don't know if they're doing all this
time just trying to throw extra money into it and
make that because that's kind of what the All Star
Game is. No one really goes to watch the All
Star Game because it's just so watered down. It's just
it's it's pretty much a glorified dunk contest as all

(37:17):
it is.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
That's all.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
It used to be really good back in you know,
I say, twenty ten. You know when they were playing
Kobe and Lebron were picking each other a full court Anthony.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Oh, and I took you to the were we went
to numerous All Star breaks. Of course. No, when the
games used to be good. You're a hundred percent right,
You're a d pent right, I mean, Anthony, But things
have changed. You don't see very many Kobe's and Michael
Jordan's anymore. That's all I mean. It is what it is,
competitive nature. For some reason, you told me seventy fourth.

(37:53):
I didn't know it been going on that long, Anthony,
seventy fourth Annual All Star Game. League's been around a
long time. A lot of people to put a lot
of blood, sweat and tears into it. But I was
one of them, Anthony. I mean, I am a proud member,
former member of the NBA, player and coach. And it's
a great league. It pays great money. It's great opportunities

(38:16):
to young people, Anthony, to advance themselves and their families.
So that's all a positive thing, you know. I just
hope that the players understand that much given much expected.
My dad just that was Frank eves motto. It is
what it is. Nothing's free, and yep it's not. I

(38:37):
still like I told everyone, name of the like and
is going to ruin the game. I like the football
games I'll watch this year, and it's not going to
ruin the game, bottom line. But much given much expected.
I do expect more from the student athletes. I do.
I expect them to understand that when they're being paid,
there's more expected of them. So that's all. But we

(38:58):
have a great time. We'll be watching it this weekend
for sure. Now here's the deal ant we've got. The
Genesis starts today. Of course, all a lot of the
big time golfers will be playing in it. Other than
Tiger Woods. We know he's not playing fifteen time major winner,
he's not playing at Tory Pines. They moved it from
Riviera where it's usually held because of all the fires

(39:20):
that's going on today. So we'll be talking about that tomorrow.
Hopefully I'll get confirmation about our Simmons College High School
game day from doctor Brooks. See if we'll be at
Manuel again. If you all can go to WHS yesterday
and during the sports and they did their report on Randall.
His last name is Randall Davis Randall Manual High School.

(39:42):
Oh god, it's touching. It's a great story. Make sure
you try to go find that out. I'm hoping that
we get a chance to speak with em Anthony tomorrow.
I really am. So that's also going on, and then
we just have to continue to watch the games. But
it is a lot of fun Anthony. This march madness
to where we have two teams definitely in and Indiana.
I want him to beat UCLA. I want Mike Woodson

(40:04):
to put them in the NCAA Tournament. It's not over.
They have opportunities that University of Louisville doesn't because the
league's so bad. I mean, Louisville just has to win
by twenty five to stay where they are, which is
just disgusting. I mean, for the league to be people
don't get it. For the league to be this bad,
Anthony just makes no sense. It just it's bad leadership

(40:26):
all the way around. And legitimately, mister Swalford and I
had a conversation in twenty nineteen and I told him
you better get involved because the league is going well.
We're here now. He retired and took his money Anthony
and didn't come on the sports radio like he said
he wouldn't coach Beard Hurdy. But of course nobody wants
the real smoke. They don't have to tell people the truth.

(40:49):
They just don't. That's the problem. So anyway, great job,
have great day at work. We'll speak with you all tomorrow.
God willing and everybody. Have a fantastic day. Put a
smile on somebody his face.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
I'm not gonna put.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
One on Shannon's. Shannon goes down. That's all I can
tell you all. Shannon the Restler will go down. E
Sports Radio. We'll talk to you all later.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
