Speaker 1 (00:00):
You have to love the laugh. Welcome back to Eve's
Sports Radio. Yes, it is February the twenty sixth. The
month is done. There's only two more days left, February
the twenty sixth, twenty twenty five. Of course it's up day.
I don't think we can miss that. My phone number
is well, I've got right now. Shannon's on his way.
(00:20):
There's a wreck out on I don't know sixty four
sixty five one of them, but be safe. Shannon's on
his way in. I have gusts behind the glass. We've
got Anthony Eves on the other line. But before we
bring Anthony on, phone number is five zero two five
seventy nine hundred. That's five zero two seventy nine hundred.
This is Eve Sports Radio Talk. It's Sports Talk seven
(00:45):
ninety KRD. And of course let's bring my co host on, Anthony.
Welcome to the show. How are you.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Oh, I'm doing great this morning. Been up and at
it for about for about forty five minutes. Now the
weather start to warm up in the morning, so I
go out and grab the paper. It's actually a nice
it's a nice calm walk. I'm not, you know, hustling
down the side and down the driveway and tend to
greet weather. So we've got a nice change coming ahead
of that. Obviously, daylight saving time is coming up in
a few weeks for all my golf lovers out there,
(01:13):
we'll get a couple more hours to go out there
and swing some loose them in the trees, trying to
do some birdies.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Know that's that the birdies you want, not the ones
in the trees. I played well yesterday, Anthony. All I'm
gonna tell you is I played well yesterday. I'm coming I.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Am played well. He played well by himself. We all
know what that means. You know, when you play with
somebody like, oh, I almost had four cars, and then
you play by yourself and you par every other whole.
It's a little suspicious, if you ask me. I thought saying, I've.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Heard, I've heard. I don't know what.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Anyway, you gotta do it around other people, man, you
can't do it by yourself. I don't know. It's a
little suspect.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
We need like, we need some evidence, We need some
other eyes, We need some other Anthony.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
I was shooting my socks through a hanger hoop in
my bath bedroom before I hit the big shots at UCLA.
It's coming, Anthony. So I told you I'm one of
those half full always It's coming, Anthony. It's all I'm
telling you. You and Frankie are going down. There are
a lot of people going down this summer period, finally healthy.
(02:21):
Can't believe it. I'm telling you my kannie is the
best if you need a knee surgery. And I was
talking with Frank Carshaw, really good supporter of Simmons College.
I used to own the tram distributorship here in the city.
He had his knee done. He's bouncing back from it.
Of course, star Show's probably eighty five. He's older than
(02:43):
I am, but he's bouncing back. But he was just amazed.
And I told him I had no Walker, no Caine
in day five period point blank, no Walker, no Caine,
day five. So if you need a knee surgery done,
I am telling you there's only one guy in the
city in my opinion. I took pain medicine. They all said,
stay ahead of the pain, Anthony. That's the whole thing
(03:04):
with your knee. My brother, people, I trusted, stay ahead
of the pain. I took my pain medicine two days.
I told my wife, I don't have any pain. I'm
not gonna take this yunk anymore and stopped. That was it, Anthony,
I had to take the aspirin because of your blood dinner.
That was it, though. So if you need knee surgery,
(03:26):
until change your life. My Connie is the one University
of Louisville. I mean he's the one, period, point blank
my opinion. So Anthony, I had four pars. I don't
care what you say, and I'm coming guys. Don't let
anybody try to take your light away from you. Just
keep shining bright. That's why Anthony. I shine bright, Anthony, Anthony,
(03:49):
I shine bridn't care. I always have. When I was
shooting it through the hoop, Anthony, shooting it through the
hangar hoop on the door, you don't even know. You
had a real little basket, you, Thomas Coleman's brother. You
had a real little basket. When I came through, Anthony,
we would take a hanger, make a oval shape out
(04:10):
of it, stick it up to the top of the door,
and that's how we played. In the winter time. You
get shoot the ball. My brothers block all my shots, Anthony.
They dunk on me. Everybody remembers. Everybody listening that's old
remembers that, and you just you ought don't remember how
to improvise. I was coming then, Anthony. Before I hit
those shots against UCLA, I was making them by myself
(04:32):
on that hanger. So I'm coming for you. That's all
I know now. And here's what we've got before we
get going, because I can't believe March the third again,
I told you all Diddy Crumb's Scholarship Inc. Looking on
their legendary Hall of Fame. Denny Crumb, former formidable basketball
coach at Louisville for more than thirty years, basketball hall
(04:53):
of Famer and goodwill ambassador for the university coach passed away.
We know, May of twenty three. I was there. It
was a shining moment, Anthony, life will live. That's all
I can tell you. I was again. I told you
all two days ago, waiting for my car, and I
was a town in country getting a battery in my
twenty twelve. You know, I loved my little Shelby Cobra
(05:16):
and we were just talking about different coaches, Bobby Knight
and Denny Crumb and all the guys were to I said, guys,
and there was a gentleman there that was a little
disgruntled with his coaches. They mislet him, didn't treat him right.
And I told him, I said, Denny Crumb bench Tony
Branch and every day had his arm around him. And
he's just a different kind of guy. That's all there
(05:38):
was to it. He had to start Jerry E's at.
I was better, I was bigger, I was faster, I
was an NBA player. Tony Branch was not. He's a
buch better guy than I was. But when coach Crumb
benched Tony Branch and hardly played him, Roger Berkman was
the third guard off the bench. We had a three
guard rotation. Daryl Griver, Jerry's Roger Berkman. He and Tony
walked in and out of practice together. I mean, Tony
(06:00):
wanted to play. But Coach Crumb is just a different
kind of guy. That's all I want to tell people.
He was just a different kind of person with his
disciplinary actions and what he had to do, which was
in the best interests of the team. But we've got
the Potato Soup March the third, from eleven am to
two pm. Again it's the roosters in Middletown ten four
(06:21):
point thirty Shelbyville Road from eleven to two Monday. Make
sure that you are there. I will be there. It's funny, Anthony.
My team is going to be meeting My Simmons College
team is going to be meeting with Travis Hunter at
the exact same time at the Ali Center on that Monday.
But I will be at Coach Crumb's event with everyone else.
So make sure you make it out. The soup is free.
(06:45):
All they want is donations. It's not for name, image
and likeness. It's not for scholarships for athletes. It's just
for regular students. So let's make sure. I'm going to
do it every day until Monday. We have to get
that announcement out. So Anthony seven thirteen already, and we've
got a lot of national news. Of course, the University
(07:05):
of Louisville game, which we're going to get to the
University of Kentucky game tonight. Hey guys, Kentucky fans, I
said ten and eight. A lot of people were upset
with me on Twitter with my ten and eight at
the beginning of the year. That was without all these injuries.
That's why I said yesterday coach Polk and Kelsey a
plus period point blank for what they've done for their teams.
(07:27):
And it's a great article in today's paper on coach
Pokey kind of as a comparison between he and some
of the other Kentucky coaches. Make sure you go online
or you pick up the paper. I know everyone doesn't
take it. I do, Anthony, but go online or pick
up the paper and look at the article. We're going
to talk a little bit about that also. So Anthony,
let's just get to the National News high school, college
(07:51):
and pro what's going on.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Oh, we got tons of stuff. Obviously last night. We
have huge games go down a lot of the districts.
For those you don't know, the high school men's teams
are in district play. So the district plays. It is
a single elimination. It's it's it's a tough road to
make it the states in Kentucky. I will say that much.
If you if you if you have one slip up
and lose one game, even in district, season is over.
(08:14):
So there's a lot on the line. There's a lot
of pressure on those teams that are favorites. You know,
the same Xaviers and manuals. Male. Of course, my Bruins.
I was gonna forget them. Bruins are one of the favorite.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Hey, big big win last night, Bruins road. I told
k c D just apply for colleges instead out of
the sports business. I'm sorry, k c D.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
It's one of the best educations. I don't want to
not case it is not the greatest, but not the
greatest in sports. I'm sorry, not a sports.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Great education or a little bit on the other side
of the teeter totter a little bit. No, we're not
any Jefferson County school system is coming back. That's all
there is to it. Evans and Flows. I was speaking
to a lady Kroger's yesterday and she said she went
to Norton Elementary with me and Ballard and we were
(09:06):
just going through our lives. Career is what had happened,
how it transpired. And she said, I used to be
the fastest girl at Norton and you're the fastest boy.
And she says, always tell people and the fastest boy
was Jerry's. She said, I attach myself to you. I said,
that's good, but we had a great time and the
school system will come back. Anthony evans and flows, ups
(09:27):
and downs. That's the way of life. It will come back,
they'll be There is a great education waiting for people
in the Jeffs County school system. They just have to
go get it, Anthony. It's there right now, but you
have to go get it. See pour it into my son,
Pour it in to my daughter. No. Parents have to
give their kids the discipline and go to school and
want to receive a education. If you do, you can
(09:51):
receive one. But go ahead and go ahead. I'm gonna
get off my soul.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Of course, in some of the games that we did
have last night, go ahead and get in two that
seventh region, which is really popular out here. Obviously we
had Valid to beat KCD last night, eighty two to
sixty two Central. We also had Central takedown Shawnee as well,
sixty four to fifty two. Christian Academy of Louisville did
get Eastern last night, sixty six to forty six. They
(10:16):
knock the Eastern out of the Turn.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
The cows and Proof football and basketball, Yes, Proof Wade
Houston's grandsn Wade Houston's grandson plays for COL. Yes, they're
much better yep.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
And then we got DuPont Manual beat more than Christian
last night, eighty two to twenty seven. That was probably
probably the biggest upset. I say upset. The biggest deficit
of the night yesterday was definitely that Manual game. Male
took care w D to Boys eighty nine to sixty nine.
As well. Sanny Xavier Brown. They defeated the Brown one
hundred and one to thirty five.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
God Saint Davier did what again? Andy, give me that score?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
They put up one hundred and one point to thirty five.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Mm hmm. You didn't have to run the score up.
Yes he did again, guys at ballad Anthony, we used
to say the Century train is about to leave the station.
Sant Xavier coach Cline. Beat that breaks off of them.
They'll improve. Don't pull back, Manual. Beat the breaks off people.
(11:20):
It's their job to improve, not your job to play down.
That's just a fact. Beat that breaks off of them. Now.
But Anthony, we've got a huge game tonight and I'm
gonna let you get to it. Simmons College High School
game Day. It's tomorrow, Anthony. And if I'm correct, is
Mail the Bulldogs coach Hayworth playing Sant Xavier coach Cline,
(11:43):
is that a true statement.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Is that game tomorrow is tomorrow? We got we got
a lot a big games region. We have Central taking
on Manual at seven thirty at Shawnee High School. Don't
have Christian Academy of Wouisville at Ballard playing at seven
pm as well. Might have attend that game, you know,
if I get off work on time. Then we also
have Samet Xavier at Male High School at seven thirty
as well, and then Wilsa have Trinity versus Atherton at Seneca.
(12:08):
These are all further district games. This is the further
twenty fifth, twenty eight, twenty sixth, and twenty seventh district.
For all these teams, they go into the seventh Region play.
So the winners of these games will face each other
in the seventh Region to decide that seventh Region champion
to go on to the state tournament. So all these
games have a lot of value and a lot of
meaning behind each one. Every game is not supposed to
(12:29):
be a walk in the park. Every game is taken
like it's like it's your last game, because it is.
If you go out there. I've had a couple of
scares in my high school career. We went out there
and we kind of tiptoed around, and that was almost
the end of our season. That was about to be
the end of my high school career. And for the
kids that do know, once that last game comes, that's it.
There's no more high school games after that, there's no more.
(12:49):
It's it's over.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Oh, it's over. Absolutely. I think after this game, it's
the one and it's one and done. And I think
both district teams that get to the championship games advance.
That first game is elimination. You're done. But I think
both teams will go to the region out of the district,
the two cheap teams that have advanced to what I
would consider the finals of the district. But after tonight, Anthony,
(13:15):
it's to do a die. I can't wait till tomorrow.
Simmons College High School game day. Kid coach gotta get
my man Hayworth on. If you don't know he's a character, guys,
Coach Heyworth, you have to come to a game and
watch him. First thing, I love him because he stays
after his players. Second thing, his players love him. They
walk out hugging him after the games wins and losses.
(13:39):
I was at the they lost in the King of
the Bluegrass heart fault game. Still came out the same
way after the game, hugging and kissing on coach and
he was after them. He's a disciplinedaria and he does
a great job. And Sam zamers going to their hands full.
That's all there is to it. Male is starting to
get healthy again. It's gonna be a great game tomorrow night.
So a lot of great games that make sure support
(14:01):
you high school sports, Anthony and I said all the time,
support your high school sports. So many continue pushing with
our national news. Who got other things to get to.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Now? But obviously we had some a lot of top
twenty five teams that played last night. In the men's
college basketball segment, we had a lot of routes. And
then we also have a lot of coast games. I
think everybody knows. The big coast game of the night
was U of L at Virginia Tech. We'll win that
game of six seventy one to sixty six. And for
some reason, Virginia Tech has a history of playing U. L.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Well I said that before that last night, Yes.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
But we watched that game last night. I guess I
can go ahead and my statements stands for ourselves when
I said you can play bad and coast through games
and the ACC and still win. That was a prime
example of that game last night. U of L had
probably one of the worst performances I've seen out of
them this season and still be Virginia Tech on the road.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Correct. I mean you take a twenty two turnovers, Anthony,
had a chance to We have never seen that before.
Now twenty two with a chance to win, I've never
seen that before. But you're a hundred percent correct. Duke
just rolls over Miami. I mean, they just roll over Miami.
It's just it almost beat them. Forty guys, ninety seven
sixty three more points is one hundred that's forty. Come on,
(15:19):
it is what it is right now. But Anthony, the
great thing about name imagine likeness. People can like it
or not. The ACC can change it's destiny next year quickly,
but it's gonna have to go get coaches and players, period,
point blank, coaches and players. But continue with the national.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
News no, of course, then also we had Duke take
care of Miami last night. The game was a bit
of a route. Ninety seven to sixty we had to have.
We did have a couple of upsets. Last night. We
did have Georgia takedown Florida at home, eighty eight to
eighty three. Florida is on a bit of a losing
skid right now. This is a tough time for them
to go on that losing street going into SEC play,
so hopefully they can get it together. A couple of injuries.
(16:00):
They've had some players come back that haven't played recently
in the last couple of games, so they're going through
a wild lineup adjustments trying to figure out who they
want to play and who are the key players going
into the snub. But it's a tough time for any
coach this late into the.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Ye I mean, they lost to Georgia Andy, but they
had won six in a row. They were rolling and
Florida was on a roll. But they just dropped that
one last night. They killed LSU killed Oklahoma, well they
didn't kill oh, yes, they did killed Oklahoma, killed South Carolina,
beat the breaks off, Mississippi State, beat Auburn ninety eighty one,
and defeated Vanderbilt eighty six to seventy five. They may
(16:37):
be chiltering down because they did play so poorly. They
were down twenty five Anthony before they decided to play.
Then they come all the way back, take a one
point lead, and next thing, you know, back and forth,
back and forth, end up losing that game. But Florida
is one of the teams Anthony. They can score, they
do defend. They're a good passing team. I'm not in
(16:59):
love with Alibi Obama, but i do like Florida. I
think you can defeat Alabama. Alabama just wants to out
score you, and they're good at it. But Florida is
really dangerous. They're really dangerous. Go ahead, next game, you know.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Of course, then obviously some of the other games we had.
Iowa State, it has lost their second, i think the
second or third game in a row. They lost to
Oklahoma State last night seventy sixty eight. They're on a
bit of a skid too. This is actually if this
is their second loss that they've had in the last
three games, their second back to back on so you
play Houston before on Saturday, lost that game by nine
and losing the night by six. They've lost two road
(17:35):
games back to back. It's that is tough to do.
Their next game is at home. But the next two
games aren't easy. They have Arizona coming to them and
they also have BYU.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
College.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
They got to figure something out in these last three games.
That's all I can say.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yes they are. How does steven basketball right now? Is
BYU defeating right there? Day? Every day you're figuring out? Yeah,
we're gonna get into the Louisville game. Of course after
the break, we got a clip from coach Kelsey from
probably two games back, but it's irrelevant to last night's game,
and I want people to hear it. But what we
(18:14):
got going on with that NBA, it's going on with
the NBA. The Lakers. What happened last night?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Oh, we got tons. Obviously they had the reunion of
Luca Donnas last night. That was one of the big things.
And I won't to say the reunion Dallas came to LA,
but he faced this former team. Obviously, Lakers still carried
business last night. One seven ninety nine did posted cripple doubles.
Since Luca was traded right before All Star break, the
Lakers are six and two after the All Star break.
(18:41):
A lot of people said their chemistry wasn't gonna mess
the We're gonna be a going a lot of games
because there's two ball heavy players on the team. And
I was even one of those people that agreed as well.
I said, it's just gonna be a tough situation to
do unless Lebron doesn't care to not have the ball
as much. I think he might realize that a little
bit more than I think other people have realized. For
him being so much older age, let Luca don just
(19:02):
take more of the load of the work, I think,
saving his energy and trying to save his body until
they make a deeper run into the playoffs. That is
usually what happens. I think he did a lot on
Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis just struggled because he couldn't stay healthy,
so Lebron couldn't play that backseat role as much as
I think he wanted to. I think with Luca plays
more games than ad, is he the best in shape
(19:23):
All Star? Obviously not no, not even close. We know that.
But hopefully this can be a change of events for
Luca Dinas and really try to get him out there
to learn behind Lebron James how to take care of
his body. He's a nutrition staying in shape on and
off the court. Mentally and physically. And I think I
hope this helps him to shoot his career into even
(19:44):
a better direction than what it is now, because I
think he's still a phenomenal player, but I think this
can elevate into the next level to where he can
be a player that when he goes from team to
team or wherever he is, that he can win championships
even if he doesn't have a lot of superstars around him.
And I think that's the big thing that they want
to see. With a lot of young Scoopers as coming
in the league, can they take their teams to the
next level.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
We've seen some players that have done it and look
at it to the championship last year and he toned
to the finals.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
If he has showed he has showed tremendous strides doing
that as well, and I think they just want to
get him over that last hump, where can he take
them all the way and actually win the game. And
I think that is something that we're all looking forward
to see.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah, we'll have to wait and see. And at seven
twenty six, we're gonna get to our first commercial break.
When we come back, of course, we got to talk
about the university of Louisville game against Virginia Tech Mike
Young's team. I just don't have very many good things
to say about Virginia Tech. I thought it would be
a tougher game because Virginia Tech hat defeated Louisville, not
Coach Kelsey's Louisville, but can't coach Paynes Louisville the last
(20:45):
four times. But it just, boy, what a game to
watch last night. It was hard to watch. But we're
gonna talk about it after the break. It's Easworts radio
phone numbers five zero two, five seventy nine hundred. We'll
talk to you in a second. Welcome back EVE Sports Radio,
February the twenty sixth, twenty twenty five. Two days left
(21:05):
in the month of February. That's unbelievable. Two months down
March's next March Madness is waiting for us. Of course,
I've got Anthony on the other line. Anthony, here's what's
going on with last night's game. I want everyone to listen.
We're gonna have a real short segment. I want people
to listen to Coach Kelsey and he's discussing a reporter
(21:25):
asking him about how does he keep his team focused.
How is he going to look and start to smell
the roses too soon? And I think Coach Kelsey had
a great reply of what he had to do. He
and his team to continue to strive to play at
the level that they've been playing, which is an unbelievable level. Guys,
we just have to admit it. No one ever thought
(21:47):
that Louisville would have twenty plus wins. There's just no
way we would ever thought that our one fifteen out
of sixteen games. There's no way anybody would have ever
written this fairy tale story. There's just no way. But
I want you all to listen to report a talking
to coach Kelsey asking him what is he going to
do to keep his team focused? Played for Michel after
(22:07):
that win last night, how exciting is it for you
to continue making history at the University of Louisville. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
I was asked that question after the game yesterday on
the radio, and I think there's a time in a
place for that.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Now is not the time.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
You know, There'll be a time in the off season
when the dust settles a little bit. And I always
say get above the trees and be able to kind
of look back and and and reflect, But now is
not the time. I mean we are in We're in
the gauntlet right now, coming down the Stretch's perfect.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Thank you. Coach Kelsey's answered that the exact way that
I have done about staying the course game by game,
preparing for a next opponent, trying to play and execute
your best game. I've been very critical of the a
SEC not Louisville. Louisville game in and game out, has prepared,
(23:17):
has played, has beaten conference opponents by double figures more
than probably any team ever at Louisville. The only issue
is I said the same thing about Indiana. You still
have to take into respect who they are playing, guys,
Virginia Tech. I see why these fort eleven points against
Boston College. They're awful that twenty two turnovers and Louisville
(23:41):
did not even full court press twenty two turnovers. I've
just never ever watched the game like that last night.
So after the break at seven thirty three, when we
come back, we're gonna give you some details about the
interesting points what coach Kelsey's gonna have to do because
Louisville fans listen to me. Now, the second half of
(24:01):
the Florida State game was uncharacteristic of coach Kelsey's Louisville tea.
They were a little sloppy last night's game. They were
very sloppy. Louisville did not play their best game. And
we understand they're not robots. They're not supposed to be.
This is not a knock. But when you start to
have three quarters in a row, second half at home
against Florida State, both quarters against Virginia Tech yesterday, having
(24:25):
an opportunity to lose that game Virginia Tech bottom line
is awful. They're just They're a bad, bad team. And
I'm gonna give you all reasons why. After the break,
it's the sports radio phone numbers five zero two, five
seventy nine hundred. We'll be back in a second. Welcome
back to the East Sports Radio. Get Shennon behind the glass.
It's seven thirty seven. Got Anthony on his way to work. Okay, guys,
(24:48):
let me explain to you something. I'm gonna have my
son tell you. We're watching the Louisville game together in
the man cave, and I told Anthony before it happened
it was going to happen. Anthony, I to describe what
happened last night with the shot clock violation by Virginia Tech.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
So we're watching and Virginia Tech had drove to the basket.
Louis will deflect the ball out of bounce about four
point three seconds on the stock clock. I was saying.
I was like, I was like, they'll probably get the ball.
I was like, they'll probably throw up a bang shot
and hit something lucky in. My dad called out saying
that they said they weren't even gonna know the shot clock.
It was gonna be a shot clock violation. I said, okay,
we'll see what's what's He's gonna be right on this one, Lord,
(25:30):
and behold, they can't the ball in the inbounce play.
He comes off of a curl to the corner, dribbles
out to the top, doesn't even realize the shot clock attempt,
passes the ball with one second to go on the
shot clock. Shot clock violation. It doesn't make sense. I
don't even the team didn't know. The coach was like
he didn't know either. He wasn't even mad that they
got a shock clock violation, Like exactly that does, only
(25:51):
that the clock didn't reset either. When the difflenction goes
out of bounds. Even if it's still your ball. The
shock clock doesn't reset. It took him twenty five seconds
just to get the first shot attend off. It's just
something that the coach is supposed to know. The point
guard of the team is supposed to know. That's your job.
You're supposed to be the leader of the team. You're
supposed to be ahead of the snake. You're supposed to
(26:12):
letting your team know that we got four seconds to
get a shot off. Nobody on the team had a clue.
And it just kind of shows that alone right there.
It summed up Virginia Tech season. They look clueless. Yes,
and this is why the record reclects.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
That yes, absolutely. Okay, guys, this is why you should
listen to the sports radio, especially during the basketball season.
We're watching the game, and this is something I've done
my entire life, Anthony, So first and foremost, so people
should know if you have a good coach, the player
taking the ball out of bounds. Why I knew, Anthony,
(26:46):
It's because I was watching them organize the player that
stepped out of bounds. Did not some players, some coaches
will have them indicate loudly four point six seconds on
the shot clock. Some have coot. I like the code method.
I didn't want other teams to know the shot clock
(27:06):
was down, but we would know because the man taking
the ball out of bounds should have a code. What
is the code? The form of a code? Stepping in
and out of bounds twice, not saying a word, but
just stepping in. It was a baseline out of bounds play.
You all stepping in bounds. He doesn't have the ball
(27:26):
back out of bounds. Stepping in bounds, back out of bounds.
That's one way that he is telling his team, we
got a short clock. We should know what play we're
going to run. Louisville does a great job of it.
Coach Kelsey does a great job of it. Period. That's
one way. Second way is that if you really want
to be clever, when the referee hands him the ball,
(27:50):
he would slap the ball twice. It got me twice
to where when you didn't want your opponents to know,
even though they were in front of the Louisville bench,
and the Louisville bench should have been telling the Louisville
defenders four point six seconds. It didn't happen. So Anthony,
(28:11):
I'm looking at the keys to see. Thirdly, you're correct
there should be a guard out on the floor because
the coach should have been yelling at them. They were
at the far and it was in the first half
of the game. They were in front of Louisville's bench.
The point guard never indicated anything. So I told you
sitting there watching the game, they're not going to get
a shot off because they had no idea and they didn't. Guys,
(28:34):
no matter what, Mike Young makes millions of dollars, he's
a good coach. He's won a lot of games. But
when you're in the thick of things, this is kindergarten.
They practice every day, three hours a day. These coaches
aren't playing. This is serious business. That's why they pay
so much money for college sports. That team had no idea,
(28:54):
and of course it was a shot clock violation, and
I was like, why am I watching this garbage? They
don't know how to play, period. And when you can
sit and watch, I think Romo's pretty damn good on
television because he tells you what's going to happen before
it happens, and he's right, Well, I told and this,
and they don't get a shot off. And he said,
although bank it in, Dada said, and they have no clue.
(29:16):
They're not going to get a shot off. The ball
had not been handed to the man out of bound yet, Guys,
A lot of changes have to happen in acc period,
point blank. It's an awful league. It's poorly coached. Yes
it is. And people are like, well, you didn't say
that about coach Payne. Share You're right, I didn't. And
(29:37):
there were things I saw that I didn't like. It's
not that I didn't say it to Josh Hert. I did.
He'll tell you get him on the show propaganda in
asking the Jerry is upset that they had a fire
Kenny Payne, He'll tell you no, he called me. I said,
I understand, No, I wasn't upset. You have to know
there's certain things you have to know. Well, I'm going
(29:57):
to tell you what. There are a lot of coaches
that have been coaching longer than coach Payne in that
dang league. They get a lot longer to figure it out.
But Mike Young has no idea. I don't care how
many games he's won. I knew that they weren't going
to get a shot off. That's one. Here's another forum. Guys,
when you're watching a game, people call me. We talk
(30:18):
all the time. But I'm watching the game, really watching
the game. I'm not watching to see who wins, who scores,
who makes a great dunk. I'm watching the game. When
you have a team make multiple turnovers multiple times in
a row, excuse me for my voice. Let me explain
it to you again. Coach Crumb was the best. I
told you all that. I was at Town and Country
(30:39):
yes two days ago, and we were talking about it
because he taught the game. Coach Crumb said, we never
have two turnovers back to back. You're going to turn
the ball over. The players aren't robots. That's why I
love my man Swaggy col but sometimes he's too much
of a showman on one turnover, guarantee you. When Coach
cal played, he at a turnover, got me, But you
(31:02):
couldn't have two back to back. I watched the game
with Virginia Tech six times. They had back to back
turnovers six times. One episode they had three turnovers in
a row. Can't happen. It's a sign of a bad coach.
Your entire team has to know one turnover happens. I
didn't say make the shot, but we have to get
(31:23):
a shot the second possession. Virginia Tech had twenty two turnovers. Guys, girls,
ladies and gentlemen. Twenty two turnovers in a college game
and have a chance to win is unheard of, Guys,
I'm just being honest with you. It's unheard of when
(31:46):
you have multiple possessions with multiple turnovers over and over
and over again. I see all these forty eleven points
against Boston College, period, and the worst point about it
is everything's on television, so you get to see the benches.
You get to see them complain about calls, you get
(32:06):
to see when they're upset, you get to see when
they don't know it's a short clock. And the staff.
There should have been somebody on the coaching staff that
was supposed to tell the coach short clock. There were
times I got consumed with the game. I had an
assistant coach. They're not just sitting over there to be cute.
They have jobs to do that it should have been
(32:26):
a notifying the coach. So, guys, when it comes to
the acc and preparing the Cardinals for NCAA tournament play,
it just hasn't It just hasn't. Guys, I'm being honest
with you. It's not when you have Miami losing bout
forty points. I know they had injured players, but I
still said forty just there are three teams in the ACC, Duke,
(32:50):
Clemton and Louisville that are very good teams that have
a chance that we'll get in the NCAA tournament. Wait
for us Mas weekend. But the league drastic changes, drastic changes,
top to bottom, athletic directors, coaches. Things have to change
(33:10):
because the league is just any point now, it's unwatchable, guys.
Virginia Tech used to go to the game and every
seat would be taken. They would have newspapers, they would
shake them when they were introducing who's he, and they'd
have their newspapers up, and they'd be calling out your
mother's name. All these things happening, and everybody's, you know,
(33:32):
so sensitors. Now I thought it was fun. They were
calling my mom's name. I wanted to kill them. I
scored twenty points in the first half in that gymnasium
I was watching last night. But it used to be exciting.
There was two people's seats empty, empty at the top
They've got curtains up to cover the top of the
stadiums in the ACC because no one's going. It's just
(33:55):
a sad state of affairs. Thank God for name meations
and likeness. But they better get a SEC. Has to
bounce back next year. It has to bounce back. It
just cannot duplicate this again. It was hard to watch. Now,
before we go to our last break, I do want
to talk about the Louisville team three quarters in a
(34:17):
row that I think, and I'm sure Coach Kelsey has
told them they haven't played Guys. The ball doesn't have
to go in when people say, oh, Psmith, Finny, excuse me,
you all one for nine, that's gonna happen. Guys, when
you're shooting three points to what he does at the
rate that he does, that's not bad play because he missed.
(34:38):
He shot the same shots open shots that he has made.
Those are good shots. Coach Kelsey's got no problem with
those shots, and I don't either. The things I didn't
like to see is that Louisville had too many multiple
turnovers back to back, too many multiple turnovers. One of
the few games that Chuckie Hepburn six assists six turnovers,
(34:58):
very uncharacteristic. Chuck kickburn. You don't want to see these
kind of things going down to the end. Coach Crome
was a master of making sure his team played its
best ball at the end of the season. Well, I
can't put that on coach Kelsey because this team is
playing at maximum. They're beating teams double, they're playing at
(35:19):
their highest rate. Guys, they don't have multiple NBA players
on their roster. They're just a well coached, well taught
You heard Jim Behiem talking about after timeouts, they get
the shots they want every time. Now we know that
the ACC coaches that are coaching against Louisville should know
the shots they want to get. If they're still getting them,
(35:39):
that's called execution. That's why coach Kelsey is doing a
fantastic job. But on the flip side, and let you
know that the coaches and the ACC aren't doing a
fantastic job because they're getting the same shots they got
in December they're getting today. They haven't taken anything away.
So it's just for me to evaluate. Just like Indiana football,
(36:05):
I just can't evaluate how good my Cardinals are because
of the level of the competition that they're playing is
so poor, period, point blank. It's seven forty nine. Anthony,
we're gonna go to break. When we come back, we're
gonna talk about the second, the second truly Mamba, the
White Mamba and her stats. You talk about the true goat,
(36:26):
Diana Trossi. We're gonna talk about you after the break.
Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio seven fifty three. Yep, guys,
an hour goes quickly, and especially when you only have
about thirty eight minutes of liftime, it's not a lot
of time. It goes really fast. Now here's the deal.
Before I jump completely into Diana Trosi for what a career,
(36:50):
I want to finish up with the coaching aspect. People
to understand. Fans evaluate games when the ball goes in
the basket, and that's what fans are supposed to do.
I understand that completely. And they get upset with their
teams and their coaches when they lose, when they don't score,
and that's what you're supposed to do. Coaches and people
in the business are supposed to evaluate how the game
(37:12):
is played. There's a difference if the team is getting
the shots that they want and they're missing them. They're
missing them. If the team missus free throws, then the
players have to work on them. The coaches cannot shoot
shots or make change. As I've said, what do you
mean make change? That means have a skill set, shoot
the ball. Smith can shoot the ball. Jackson can shoot
(37:35):
the ball for Kentucky. Breah can shoot the ball for Kentucky.
They can make change. They have a skill set that
a lot of players do not have. But the coaches
still have to put the players in positions to be successful. Period.
I've told you all about Scotty when his last two
maybe a tough out in their tournament. Scotty was putting
(37:55):
his team in position ball just wasn't going in. Period.
There's nothing you can do when the ball doesn't go
in as a coach and other than continue practicing and
be an upbeat. When I'm watching ACC games, guys, I'm
seeing things that just don't make sense for professional coaches
that make millions of dollars, period, point blank. I can
(38:17):
tell you more. As the scene goes on, I will
start to tell you more things that you should watch
so that you understand when you're seeing a well coached team. Now,
the ultimate champ is a person that wins at every level.
Diana Trosi, of course, is retiring after twenty seasons in
the NBA. Of course, yukon three n CAA championships, six
(38:40):
Olympic goals. Come on guys six three WNBA Championships, leading score,
leading three point getter. Listen to this stat This is crazy.
Fourteen hundred and seventy six playoff points in seventy two games.
Fourteen hundred and seventy six playoff points in seventy two games.
(39:01):
Let me give you a comparison to a good player.
Good college player never shot less than fifty percent. Played
in the NBA. I played in playoff games, played one
hundred and twenty nine games, averaged nine point seven points
a game, had twelve hundred and fifty points. Twelve hundred
and fifty points in one hundred and twenty nine games.
Dinah Trossi has fourteen hundred and seventy six points and
(39:23):
seventy two playoff games. The person I'm comparing them to
is me at Louisvoi. I played one hundred and twenty
nine games, almost thirty a game. You've got people today
playing one hundred and fifty games. Don't compare their stats.
Coach Beard only played seventy eight eighty games. They only
played three seasons, So don't compare the stats. Don't always
(39:46):
say let's compare the stats. Donah Trosci. Job well done,
truly the true goat, the White mamb But she loved
Kobe Bryant. She introduced herself to Kobe, said, I am
the White Mamba, and without a doubt, undisputed heavyweight champ
of the world was Diana Tracy. Job well done, young lady.
(40:09):
Job well done. Is esports radio god willing. I'll be
back tomorrow. Let's watch the Cats tonight. I'm gonna critique
it for you tomorrow. Bye bye
