Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Eve's Sports Radio, March the twenty first,
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yes, it is Friday, Thank god it's Friday.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
All that I can say is March Madness is upon us,
and we've got some sad stories and some happy stories.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
But we'll get to all of those phone numbers. Five
zero two.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I'm sure we'll have a lot of callers with their
opinions on yesterday's game. So that's five zero two, five, seven, one,
seventy nine hundred. Of course it's sports Talk seven to ninety.
We've got Rick behind the glass, manning the glass. Thank
you Rick for coming in on Friday. Thank God it's Friday. Rick,
that's all.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Thank God.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Like you said, just a little caffeine for you. I'm
not a coffee drinker, but I'm fine. But it's still Friday.
It's been a long week, so let's just get to
first things first. And before we get started, I'm going
to bring on my co host tomorrow at eleven am
at Southeast Christian. Junior Bridgeman's going away service will be
(01:02):
eleven a m.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Southeast Christian.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
All four parking lots will be open. It's open to
the public. If you can't get there. There's a live
streaming service that you can watch also, so there's two
ways to make sure that you're at Junior Bridgmand's going
away service. So I just wanted to make sure we
all knew that before we got started. Now, let's just
move into what's transpire first and foremost, let's bring on
(01:28):
my younger son, Anthony Eves and he welcome to the show.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
I'll do it fantastic. You know, today's Friday, glad to
be up. It's it's a little nippy outside and the
weather's flux. Wade's got my nose stuff, so so I
wish you would just go ahead and warm up so
I can play golf. Stop being sick.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Exactly, I feel it. I'm with you hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I've been sick for a month, so I'm getting over
it finally, but it's hard to get over at COVID.
You're always on the move. This other guy, though, he
tries to stay on the move. I don't even like
to bring him on. Anthony Couse, you know it. He's
always got a joke or something. He's gonna crack on
me and I George Williams, what are you gonna say
about me today. What are you gonna say?
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Well, well, Jay, I'm gonna save that for one minute
before I tell you something about you. But I do
have to pass something to the Loisal cardinal fans that
mister Henry Bacon passed yesterday, and I wanted to know.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
George, Yes, sir, yes, sir, George. You know I do
not know that.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Way he passed yesterday, Jared. That's the reason we didn't know.
I know the family, and the family know the fam
me yesterday after he passed, and so I just wanted
to let our cardinal fans know, and you know, and
like I said, allowed of the former players, Jim Price along.
We put on the vent for him about a year
or so ago and got to see him and let
him know how much we appreciated all his accomplishments at
(02:47):
the University of Louisville and in the city of Louisville,
you know what I mean. So you know, we we
tried to send him out right and let him know
that he was well respected during his time, and so
we got out to visit him. So I do want
to that back know that. And now since we got
that out of way, back to you.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Say, you know, George. I appreciate you letting us know.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Of course, he and Jim Price were the first true
calm but great guards at Louisville coach crumbs first two
years there, great guards. So and I know that y'all
did do an event for him people. His health was, George,
how long had he been in the home, Maybe five
to eight years at least had That's true, at least
at least so the great person.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yes, great person.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
And the last thing I like to get. The last
thing I'd like to say about the jail. You know,
when when you really talk about friendship, and you just
mentioned Jim Price, you know, Jim's been going to see
Henry now for at least about the last four or
five years. You know, when you say you're a real friend,
that's what a real friend is. When you down, they are,
you know, And a lot of people don't understand that
there when they think when you're up, that's a real friend. No,
(03:51):
it's when a man is down and needs support is
when a real friend steps up. So i'd just like
to say that to this morning before we start the show.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Absolutely great, George, So guys, this is what we have. George.
Of course I went to Lexington yesterday and first and foremost,
why to watch the Cardinals play George? Why?
Speaker 1 (04:18):
No?
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Okay, father, I got confused.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
I got confused.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Confused.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Let me tell you one thing, Anthony. Yesterday we bought George. Okay,
in our brackets, our ESPN brackets that we have over
the most I've ever had at George, h We've got
about one hundred and eight.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
We're in the.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Men's side, most I've ever had. So George, I picked Creighton,
so did Anthony. Just everybody can go and see. I
wanted my Cardinals to win. And I thought yesterday I said,
I thought that just like Xavier, the fans get pushes
over the threshold. George, and I wanted to just say
one thing for Cardinal fans. They showed up in a
Repp arena. George and Droves, I mean George and Droves.
(05:01):
They showed up. So congratulations to the Cardinals coach Kelsey
for putting them in the tournament. I didn't expect them
to get in the tournament at all, point blank. But George,
Creighton was a better team from beginning to end, no question,
every facet of the game.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
They were better, not no question.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Yeah, you need you need to clear it up for
the fans to take it the wrong way. You though
after the season, before the season, they wouldn't get in
the term because I know them. Yeah, you say that
before the season, before.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
The season exactly, I thought would get twelve to fifteen.
Oh yeah, they'll be upset with no your one hundred
percent right. I thought they'd get twelve to fifteen wins.
So I think the end was twenty seven wins. Twenty
seven George, come on, man, are you kidding me? But
the one thing now, Anthony called it yesterday, and I'm
gonna throw it to Anthony. Anthony, your description of the
(05:52):
a SEC. I want to hear it again today. ACC
as a hole.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
To the AEC as a hole. Well other than.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Said other than your favorite team, Duke, how did you
describe the ACC?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
I said that I did, said ACC was very subpar
outside of Duke. I said, if you take Duke out
of the circumstances in ACC, the ACC really isn't much
of a conference. Honestly, it's not right now, and I
know little friends gonna be upset and saying that they went,
you know, twenty five and eight or whatever the record was.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
But realist seven.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Duke was the only valid team in there that has
a shot that any type of contention Outside of that,
UFL fans, I know y'all hate to say it, but
I wasn't confident in the uf L beating Creighton pick matches.
I just not. I just add a feeling the Calk
Firm is gonna be a big masterive part for u
of L because UFL's inside game is just not there,
or it's pretty much uf l's all guard play. The
(06:46):
offense is nine percent guard play, ten percent lot passes,
and so when you kind of shut down the guard
play Chuck, you had burning Ternce Edwards trying to do
a little too much at the time, trying to keep
him in the game, which is it's difficult because.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
You want to you want to do the best you can,
but I'm just circumstances, it's just it's always not there,
you know, be like I'm gonna go out there and
hit every jump shot and hit every layup against the
seven to one center that's leading the country and shop blocks.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
It's just it's hard circumstances. Obviously, we saw Clemson, it
was almost getting it was getting thrashed by the niece
at one point.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Now they came back.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
We're going we're not gonna go there yet. We're not
gonna go there yet. We're not gonna go there. We're
gonna stay on Louis. But we're gonna talk about that.
Oh my gosh, we're gonna talk about that. But let's
just stay with Louis.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
George, what did you see in the eighty nine seventy
five lost to Creighton yesterday?
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Well? There, for first of all, like we've been saying
all year that we couldn't project how lord how good
loib it was, because they haven't been tested all year.
They haven't had a close game, they haven't get into
an overtime game, they haven't had to come back. The
conference was really down this year overall, so we didn't
have a real gauge on how any of the ACC
teams look well. And Bob McNee and you had Clemson,
(07:59):
Louil and do all right, so far two teams out
of the AC first time on they both come so
you only got one team represented. And he goes to
show everything we said. Because everybody was talking about how
great Clemson was about two or three weeks ago, you know,
we were not we thought they were, so j I
think it just speaks for what we thought it was.
We thought that people talk about the people picked Louisville wrong. No,
(08:21):
I thought eight and nine. You can't complain eight and nine.
He's seventy five miles away from home, Come on, mess
And so Louisville went out and did what we thought
most AC teams would do about out early.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
George, that's just the truth. Guys.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
We got a call and we're gonna get to him.
Then I'll start to tell you exactly what I saw
and when I tweeted out at the game yesterday and
uh the press conference, and again, congratulations coach Kelsey and
his players. I never thought that they'd be in the
position that they were. But we have spoke about that
conference the entire year. We had Rick Bosa Jahn. We
(08:56):
were all on downtown George, Anthony, Rick, Tim Sullivan, myself,
and I told both of them, guys, you can't evaluate bad.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
It's bad.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
So you can say a lot of wins a bad league,
but it's still a bad league, and it doesn't prepare
you for what you had to see in the NCAA turn.
So let's go to our first caller, guys, let's bring
Blend into the show, Bland and welcome to he'sps.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Reading our man.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Landon corrected the man.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
A legend in his own life.
Speaker 7 (09:26):
George, George, I wanted to tell you good morning, Good
morning gentlemen, Good morning, mister Eves, and good morning George,
and good morning Jerry. I hope everybody's doing real good.
I just wanted to say, George, it's so refreshing to
hear your Goldman voice again this morning. Thank you. We're
taking time to bring the ratings out of the basement
of this show and to come on the air.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Thank you for the fans and Anthony.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
Absolutely that's mister Eves.
Speaker 7 (09:54):
Thank you, George. I'd like to make a comment real quick,
please about all the bad that's the ball and everything.
When we were signing off last week, I was rudely
cut off by Jerry like he always does me. But
I wanted to tell you. I wanted to tell you,
George that if you made a comment about our brother
Ac the tribal chief and the sports show here being
(10:15):
in the slammer and uh, you know, Jerry, or excuse me, George, George,
I just won't tell you. There is that there's a
video on TMZ this morning circulating that won Jerry Eves
that's responsible for throwing that bottle of water on the
court yesterday. At George and George, I did want to
(10:37):
tell you, between you and I that you know it
is true. I hear he's gonna end up in the
slammer beside brother a C and Uh, George, you do
know what AC's new name is now, don't you?
Speaker 3 (10:50):
No?
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Suit?
Speaker 7 (10:51):
The AC stands are already convicted.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I've done landed coly Someth's wrong with you man? Something?
Speaker 7 (11:04):
No, But anyway, congratulations, all serious is congratulate UFL had
a great year. Yes, they did really good, but they
the conference was futri at you all, and it was
It was quite obvious to me that your lack of
playing good teams showed up yesterday.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And that's not their fault, guys, the conference. You have
to play in your conference. That's not Louisville's fault. And
that's why I told people all year when they got
upset with me, it's the conference's fault. And Anthony, George
and Blandon and all our friends listening, I gonna try.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
To listen closely. I said, all year.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
It's very important that your league is good, and all
I heard from the propaganda is I don't care about
that as long as we're good. No, you need your Honestly,
Louisville may next year be fourteen and six and get
a higher seat than they got at eighteen and two.
And that's what you want.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
You want people to prepare you.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
That league prepared Clemson for nothing and Louisville for I
think at all, no success at all.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
And when it matters, it matters now. It matters now.
This is the time. All that stuff is for the
NCAA tournament. It matters now. And the league did not
help them at all.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
So people please don't say I don't care if the
league is bad as long as I am.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
That's not good.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Yeah, and we as well as and not trying to
knock your team man as well as we talk about him.
We don't know how proparued Duke is.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
I mean I don't I don't have Duke winning it.
You're right, George, I told Anthony, I do not have
Duke winning it. I don't even know if I got
him going to the final four.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
I really don't agree with pull a hamstring now. It's
a little bit of a stretch.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Okay, hold up, hold up, I'm glad y'all said that, though, Anthony,
I'm glad you said that.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
In today's paper, guys talking about Kentucky. Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Now, this has nothing to do with Louis or Creighton,
but it does have something to do with the youth
team makeup resembles recent champions. The numbers prove it out.
Kentucky's twenty four to twenty five roster looks a lot
like the past eight national champions. In short, these cats
have experience. Now, not since Dukes twenty fifteen has the
NCAA champion primarily relinquishment relied on freshman starters. With Villanova's
(13:17):
title in twenty sixteen running through the second Yukon's back
to back championship last year, freshmen barely were part of
the playing rotation if they contributed it all, God's freshmen
have not won it. That's today's paper head by Kentucky.
So Anthony, I'm with the paper. I just don't think
youth wins it, and that it doesn't. So that's why
(13:39):
I'm not a huge Duke. I think somebody's gonna beat them.
That would surprise es I do just because of the youth.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Well, you know, Jerry, it's another thing that goes along
with that. I think it's only been one freshman point
guard that ever lead a team to an NCAA championship
up at Syracuse, So that's always look at freshman point guard.
Do you have a chance. I'll never go with a
team with a freshman point guard to lead you to
a championship.
Speaker 7 (14:04):
George, I'm sorry, George, it's no refreshing to hear your
expertise this morning. Thank you again for coming on the show.
And and also mister Eves Anthony thro the bottle I did, Jerry,
I just want to know something between you and I.
I just hope you don't end up in the slammer today.
And it's embarrassing that they come down there and hauled
(14:25):
you out of that compound of yours and put you
in the cell next to the ac.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
So I hope you, hey blended, Andy will carry the
show until we get Jay back. Free j e when
it's like that.
Speaker 7 (14:39):
Time he left us all, remember the debacle when he
went across season, got in that game show or whatever
rival whatever he did.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
You know, he shut us all, George, He didn't tell nobody.
Speaker 7 (14:50):
He just up and left. So you know, they let
me go to jail for a little while for throwing
the water bottle.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
It'll be the same thing.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Weekend, Brandon, George, why do you feed into that that
man's sick?
Speaker 4 (15:05):
And you know that man great points? Jered, he makes
a great point. I love when he comes on.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
All I can say is this, I did not throw
the bottle.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
I enticed the.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Person to.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
George, we don't have video.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Pretty soon we have a video.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Okay, now, guys, we got another caller, but we're already
at seven to twenty one, so let's get to our break.
When we come back, Adam, you'll be the next one up.
But again staying with the Louisville thing. Oh yes, Adam's
Oh yes, George, Adam's up.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
I got some way to go. Drive me back in
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
Yes, eaves Words Radio will be back in a second.
Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio seven five. Yes it
is Friday, Thank god, it's Friday, March the twenty first,
twenty twenty five. Just have a reply to Blanding and
George before I bring on. Adam read something that just
hit my phone. Who knew mister Eeves, that's who knew.
(16:06):
He's been spot on with your ACC conference assessment as
well as the early SEC tournament losses.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Keep up the great work.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
You know.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
I'm listening go seminals.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
So, George, I just wanted to let you know it's
sleepless is on my side now, knowing that.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
The SEC.
Speaker 8 (16:24):
Yes sleepless.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Yes, a notary Jerry, get that you gonna notary.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Bro Well, I'll try to tell you something wrong with
you and he's something wrong with The SEC is four
and three. The Big ten is four and oh. The
a SEC is okay, the play in game one and two,
I'm saying, oh and two. Now Caroline has to do
something a playing game. I don't even want to count
that now. If Carolina can win, I'll say one and two.
(16:52):
So right now, the a SEC is oh and two
in the NCAA tournament. Now let's bring on and well
go to the show.
Speaker 8 (17:02):
Are you morning? Good morning guys, this morning morning little
And I wasn't even gonna start that. Man.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Yeah, you're all so.
Speaker 8 (17:15):
Copy for a guy that they play the ball games
and ship man.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Ship yeah he's ship he's so right. Troy's waiting, George
down at him.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
You would have been doing it. Okay.
Speaker 8 (17:29):
Wait, I wasn't gonna say nothing to you, man, I
was gole.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
Let it lie man. Well you know I got mad
in Adam, I don't care. I'm glad I got mad.
Speaker 8 (17:40):
I know Shannon and Matt Jones are a little nervous.
You know, they're not too confident. But you're pretty confident
this morning, aren't you?
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Laughing, don't you?
Speaker 8 (17:50):
Well? It's over there.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Yeah, yeah, Troy's waiting. Troy's waiting, they are waiting.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Let's all we get together what I love, burn out
fits on and watch the game tonight.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
Guy, there's no there's no gill me over here. I'm sorry, buddy,
We're good.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
No.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
No.
Speaker 8 (18:19):
I was gonna chair for y'all today, but I woke
up listening to you on this radio show and I thought, Man,
this is why I am not gonna cheer for them today.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Thank you, Adam.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
What do you think? Yeah, hey, I'll send you his
number tonight at him. If it doesn't go good, you'll
get his number.
Speaker 8 (18:44):
All seriousness, though, seriously, I mean, Jared, you you're spot
on with with what you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I mean, if you don't.
Speaker 8 (18:50):
Play caliber teams during the year. It doesn't set you
up very good for the tournament.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
And it's real.
Speaker 8 (18:59):
I mean, and your son was pointing them out yesterday. Yes,
you know the matchups, yes, and.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
He said he talked about the matchups.
Speaker 8 (19:07):
Yes, yes, yeah, and he really hit home on some
of those matchups. And I'm like, and he's right, and
we haven't faced the team with that type of matchup,
that style play. And also it does help when you
do hit you know, five six feet from the three
point line too.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
I mean, but Adam, let's be honest though, Adam, Adam
yesterday with George Listen to me, Adam yesterday, I told
you all that Creighton was one of the few teams
that made more three pointers than University of Love. If
you remember, I told you that they made you shot
less but made more. They had both. I told you
all that, and we saw it. You got to see
(19:46):
a team that had inside outside game, that had wide
open threes. They made more three pointers. Thirty four games
were played by both teams. They made one more three
than Louisville did.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
I told you?
Speaker 8 (19:57):
And then also something else too, you know, again on
these TV rights and things. If you don't see a
team play all the time. You really don't know unless
you go dig into the analytics about that team and
who they are and what they have because they're not
co avised oose than when they play at Kansas or
when they play you know, a Louisville or somebody big
(20:18):
and then they turn around a Beatle and they're like
everybody says, what oh no. But it's the caliber, the style.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
And the matchups that Adam I kind of disagree with
you guys, but they've been on TV. I've got to say,
hm quit a few times. They can't say the biggest
They got to play some tough games. They played the
games that we talk about on the show. They played
to come from behind game, they played some overtime games,
they played some a one point game, and they play
(20:46):
They gave Saint Johns. If you watch the Big East term,
they can't Saint Johns everything.
Speaker 8 (20:50):
They beat.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
Jerry.
Speaker 8 (20:58):
Why is it when the grown ups are talking, the
kids always.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
Trying to talk, always man, Yes, yes, hey George got popped.
Speaker 8 (21:08):
George, you just calmed down?
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Okay, George.
Speaker 8 (21:16):
You don't find the way from that in your sale number.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
But here's the deal Adham with Louisville.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
George, when he was speaking, the Big East was on
television and you could see the very first plate yesterday, George.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Anthony and I said it was going to be a
chess match.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
We wanted to see how University of louisvoiit took away
the big boy, Kirk Brenner, and we wanted to see
how Creighton would take away Chucky had Burn's post up
off the dribble.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Got me.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Well, we saw Creighton put Neil on Chucky, big long
athlete that cooked Louisville twenty nine points, and we saw
that Louisville never had an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
George.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
They aren't ready Clemson. I mean, Creighton got everything they wanted.
They got the three pointers, they got the interior game,
they got the layup dunks for their center. They got
what usually Louisville usually gets. They forced Louisville into shooting
mid range fifteen to eight footers over.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
The big guy. They took away the three pointers, George,
and the free throw line and the free.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
I've been playing this ever since the Georgia Tech game.
I thought Georgia Tech gave teams the recipe to beat Louisville.
They put a boxing one on Smith, and they put
the big guard on Chucky back then anytime you put
it because a lot of people don't know Chucky dominion inside.
You put a big guard and you don't jump before
he does. He is good hard to make you not
(22:44):
stay on that ground. When you got a team and
you jump at the Chucky, it's hard for him to
get those jump shots off and you and only one
man can't beat it. And so they were saying, well,
Chucky keeps hitting like his he'll beat us. But you know,
you keep a big man on Chucky and you've got
to put people man on Smith the whole time. We've
been talking about that for the last four or five weeks.
That's the formula beat Louisville. And they don't have a
(23:04):
great inside presence, although the big man does a great job.
But Jay, like we said last year, you don't have
a lot to go with that. It's hard to win.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Yes, Scott, the love dunk guy, Scott had has no
offensive talent whatsoever, which was shown yesterday. They did not
guard Scott George. They did not guard him trail or
they did not guard him nor Waterman. Now, I asked
coach McDonald McDermott in the press room. What was gonna
be the deal to make him come out of that?
(23:32):
He said that Waterman did hit two threes in the
second half, and he said, Jerry, it made me get squirrely.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I was getting ready to talk to my staff about
do we have to guard him? But if they didn't
make shots, George, they played five on four defensively, they
did not guard three of Louisville's players Perry point play.
They did not guard them, and it was very difficult
for Edwards and had Burned to play.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
So Adam, appreciate your brother. We're gonna be watching Troy tonight.
I'll send you that.
Speaker 8 (24:00):
I appreciate y'all.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
Man.
Speaker 8 (24:01):
Hey, thanks, william Es, Williams, I'll call you later.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
I'm gonna I'm gonna answer every time.
Speaker 8 (24:10):
I'm gonna see you when I see you, buddy, Yeah,
there you go.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Later.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
So right later, we're gonna get to break but Anthony,
before we do Cam Craighton, which you really like. Can
they beat Auburn Anthony?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, you know what, they if they played the way
against they played ul I think they have a strong kids. Obviously,
Auburn is one of the better teams but at the
same time, we do see a lot of their flaws.
We saw a lot of their flaws when they played
against Alabama State. They struggled in the first half. There's
certain games where you can struggle and you can still
straight by and you can still win by fifteen or
twenty points, like they did in the round of sixty four.
(24:53):
But farther on in those rounds, you start playing those
eight to nine seeds, some of the sixes, even the
eleven seeds. If you come out and your Laxaday's cool,
it's hard to come back against. Will coach Keems, Creighton
is a well soarch team that can hit shots. They
have one of the best big men in the country
that will give Jani Broom problems. Even though he's an
ap All American. I say it. I don't believe he's
an All American in my opinion. Everybody's like, well, look
(25:14):
at his numbers, don't. I don't like his numbers. I
really don't. It's just they're yes, they're impressive numbers. He's
after in double doubles. He say he's having twenty and
ten and the hardest conference in basketball, So that will
be the first thing that they say about him. But
you look at the stature and how hemounts up and
when he really plays, I'm just I don't see it.
He's he's an undersized center who's not athletic. He stressed
(25:37):
the full. It gives him a little bit of an advantage.
It gets a lot of shoot the three. He can
shoot the three, but he has to to be at
that side and nearly six nine to sixty ten. I
hope you can shoot. If not, you're gonna struggle. You
see the centers that can't shoot, like James Scotten struggle
against Craty. He couldn't stretch the floor. Cal Grenners sat
in the paint all night. He had to be those
probably the least amount of tired he's been all season
(26:00):
playing game because he didn't move a step on defense.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
No, he didn't know because they drop defense. He kept
me in front of the rim the entire game. He says,
we weren't gonna pull him up. They were gonna have
to make shots. So, guys, this need to break. We
got Ryan waiting for his after break. It's seven thirty
five Eve Sports Radio. We got to talk about the
Cats a little bit.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
They've got a game against Troy and no games easy
in the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
We'll talk to you in a minute.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio seven thirty nine. Of
course we've got Ryan on the line.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
I'll be right to you.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Ryan.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Guys, Arkansas Saint John's two forty on Saturday. Come on, guys,
I can't wait. Caliperio, come on, George, come on man.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Yeah, but I like to go back to that typic guy.
We're talking about album center and album album playing Clayton
and I think Alburn. I think Creighton has a great
chance of beating Alburt because I don't think, first of all,
that Alburn is a disciplined team. I think also Dred
And you'll know about this that I think that agents
(27:05):
are starting to talk to the players and they're playing
for glory.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Now.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
You know you think about that, Jed if if he's
our best big men in America, you know what about
American basketball.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Jee, I'm not a mean I stayed out of it.
I didn't want people. I didn't want to prejudice Anthony.
He is a good player, George, But I'm not a
mind fan. I'm not Albring can score George.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
So it's gonna be at it.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
They can score, but I Crighton's gonna play the mess
out of them.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Yes, not no qu and there our disciplined Jared Craig.
I mean, uh, alten, Look look at the fouls. They
got to lose game. Sometimes they didn't lose it because
they got out play. They because they lost their composion,
you know what I mean. And so I think that
they're very vulnerable. And the point guard that I'm telling
you that Craighton Rick threw everything in him, but the
kitchen sink and the boy never broke. In fact, it
(27:59):
gets better. Yes, the games.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Yes, let's get the right right. Welcome to the show,
no question, Ryan, Welcome to the show.
Speaker 7 (28:10):
I actually take my call.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
Jerry, can you hear me?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
I can hear you?
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Okay, Uh my condolences were Henry Bacon. I remember him.
You know, I grew up in Louisville and he was
a great player, played for a great coach. But Louisville
has nothing to be ashamed of. They played the heart out.
Craigon's got a good team and they will beat Auburn
and Arkansas.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
I watched him, and.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
You know that Bill's help he come up with that
old zone triangle and two or whatever they call it,
and I said, here we go again. Okay, I ain't
gonna be able to play against his son, but they
overcame it, and I think he played like ken guys.
He actually seemed like he was actually coaching last night.
But I like Coach Cal.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
I'm with you, man, Yes, big you say they advanced
Coach Caw.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
That was a playing game.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
That was Yeah, here's the advance.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
Here's the other time. Here's the other thing, Jerry. Now
you know Saint John's got a good team, they go
to Final four, they won it. All you know Potento
can coach. I don't care what they say. But here's
the thing. Coach Cal, remember ninety six he beat that
ninety six team and almost beat him again when he
coached at Emas if you remember that.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Yes, here's the.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Exactly.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
Here's the other. Here's the other. Here's the other thing, Jerry.
Sambully didn't play in that dream game. That first game.
Sam Bully was hurt. I didn't know if you remember
that or not.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
I didn't.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
Yeah, we had Sam Bully.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
We might have won that game.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
I don't know. But here's the thing about Kentucky, and
I'll get off. Okay, they're gonna have to learn how
to handle that press. They're gonna have to play some deepense.
You're gonna have to rebound and shoot the ball. Are they?
They will go out to the tonight, They're gonna. I mean,
I don't know who's gonna win it all. I don't
know how to feel like bracket out, but I'm telling
(30:04):
you that is going to beat Auburn, and uh, like
you said, a lot of m SAC teams are gonna
go out. Thanks for taking my call, think right, yep?
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Well, the SEC is four and three at this time.
Auburn defeated Alabama State, Tennessee beat Walford, Texas A and
m BE defeated Yale, and a very Zuri lost to
I picked Missouri. Arkansas defeated Kansas. I picked Arkansas. You
can go look at my brackets. I picked cal Georgia
(30:36):
lost to Gonzaga. I picked Georgia I did, and Texas
lost to Xavier.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
I didn't. Xavier truly was the favorite team. I don't
know what I didn't.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
You couldn't pick the playing games, so I don't know
who I picked, but I want people to know Xavier
was favored over Texas. So that's where we are, Anthony,
what do you think for I bring on run? What
do you think about You think you can get it done?
Speaker 2 (31:01):
I do. Creighton could defeat Alburn. It's gonna be a
very good game.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
I think they got a good chance. I mean, most
of the majority of the SEC teams have advanced passed
around the sixty four, but a lot of games have
been shaky. They've been rattling that line of barely winning.
Texas A and M is scraping by against Yale.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Obviously, right, Yale's good, though, we got to give you
all credit.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
You're validating my points. Who's better Yeale or creating?
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Mm hmm, Yes, I mean it's gonna be a good one.
You defeated over last year. You're Yo defeated over last year.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
You're saying Yale is good and he almost be Texas
A and M and Creighton is a better team. What
would they do against?
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Yeah, it's gonna be a good one. No, that's the
NCAA tournament, guys, forget the seeding. You gotta play now.
Every game is a challenge, period playing blank.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Let's bring Ryan on.
Speaker 9 (31:53):
Ryan, Welcome to Eat Sports Radio Morning Guys How are y'all.
Speaker 7 (32:01):
Creighton.
Speaker 9 (32:02):
Creighton could beat Alburn, But I'll be I think I
better put y'all better pump the brakes there a little bit.
You're getting a little carried away. It's a little Let
me tell you something. If you watched that game yesterday,
as coach, as most people, Creighton had the floor spread well, Jerry,
those were wide open looks.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Wide open.
Speaker 9 (32:23):
I mean, in fact, they missed several at the beginning
of the game, or it would have got a way
sooner than it did. They averaged right at one point
four points per possession. That's the recipe for disaster in
college back the book. I mean, you can't give up
forty nine points in the first half and think you're
gonna win a tournament game. It's just that usually doesn't work.
(32:45):
I mean, at least we've got a high pirate up
and so I do think that Creighton is very well coached.
In fact, I think McDermott out coach Kelson yesterday. I'm
not gonna lie about it.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (32:58):
He spread the floor very well. They were able to
get pretty much the shots that they were wanting out
of that off manse.
Speaker 7 (33:06):
I don't I'm not an Auburn brand.
Speaker 9 (33:08):
You know that very because I tell you they're very undisciplined.
So if they come in with the big head, they
certainly can't get beat by Creighton. I'm not sure I
expect that. Going back to some of the other games
you were talking about, Gonzaga was a solid seven and
a half point favorite over Georgia, So that's not like
that was something surprise to anybody. But now let's talk
(33:33):
about what we've been talking about all year. And I'm
not coming on here to rain on the parade for
louis season, because they did have a great season considering
what they've been through the last few years. But the
two shiny things that they held up to the committee
on their resume was we beat Clemson twice. Well, as
(33:57):
you see, Clemson didn't make it to the end of
the night first day of the tournament. What we have,
what we have left in the n c Double A
is a victory over North Carolina, who was basically forced
into the tournament in the playing game. That's that's who
Louisville has beaten. It's in the NCAA tournament at this time.
(34:19):
So all all the wine and the crime complaining about
the seeding. I mean, and and boy the numbers they were,
they were underseated, but it appeared yesterday that they weren't
underseated in that game if you looked at the game
for what it was.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
I mean, the fact of the matter is this run.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
When Louisville played outside of the a SEC, they were
not successful SEC four times, lost all four games Big East.
That's what lost the game, and three of them were
by double digits and double digits the whole way. So
I mean, the facts are the facts. The league must improve,
must improve.
Speaker 9 (34:56):
That's where I was going next to say, you know,
yes the league was down, but it's not like Littleville
didn't have opportunities. They played Tennessee, they played Old Mess,
they played Oklahoma, they played Kentucky, they played Duke twice.
All those were losses, and yesterday they played Crety. So
it's not like they didn't have opportunities to beat good
teams during the year at sometime. Yes, a lot of
(35:18):
them were the first year. I understand that, but uh no, I.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Don't care about that. Stop that again.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
I told Rick Bose, Guys, when you lace them up
and they pop popcorn and they keep scoring. Guys, the
game's a game. I don't care what I play you.
I want to win bottom up. So all that it
was early that means nothing.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
You have to win. The committee.
Speaker 9 (35:39):
The committee says the body of work. It doesn't see
exactly the body of work in the last half of
the season. And so and what Rick said on your
show last week, which this is just one man's opinion,
totally ludicrous. What he said to limit maybe limit a
(35:59):
conference to fit no, no teams in a good conference
for bad teams in a bad conference. That's what that
really means.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Let's clarify for him, run everybody.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
The SEC got that many team fourteen in because when
they played other conferences they dominated them. It wasn't because
they just I just said, oh I love the SEC.
I watched when they played the a SEC and the
Big Ten, they dominated them. That's why, guys, it wasn't given.
It was earned. The SEC teams beat other conferences. That's
(36:36):
why they got so many inns. It wasn't given. Nothing's
given in sports. You gotta earn it.
Speaker 9 (36:42):
And for all the caw haters, slacken swaggen cow strikes again.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Okay, that's one of your cat fans for all my
cat fans that were killing cow.
Speaker 9 (36:58):
And you know, the great Bill self, the Hall of
Famer at Kansas, you know, and Cal's played without his
leading score too, Yes, you know, yes, I mean that's
another thing I'm sitting hearing Jerry. Oh, well, if we've
been healthy, well, Kentucky hadn't been healthy all year long.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
No, no, right now, I give run the leading score. Yeah,
I don't care. Right now, you play, You play what
you got.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
I don't want to hear. I don't listen to. I
don't care who's out, who's in.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
You play with you a dude.
Speaker 9 (37:32):
Thiero is the leading score at Arkansas. They played without him,
mass like could beat Kansas. I mean, all that whining
and excuse making, you just got to lace them up
at this time of year.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
Go.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
So you gotta go.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
I gotta get my last break in Run. Appreciate your brother.
Seven fifty guys. EVE Sports Radio will be back in
a minute. Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio. Here's what
we got, guys.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
I'm going first thirty to forty seconds.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Anthony to your second, thirty to forty seconds, George your
third thirty to four seconds.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Then we're gonna end this thing.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
My game that I want to talk use my thirty
to forty five seconds on Clemson.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
That was an embarrassment. McNee State dominated them. I don't
want to care.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
About sixty nine sixty seven. I don't want to hear
about the comeback the press. Guys. They scored thirteen points
in the first half of an NCAA tournament game and.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
There were a five seed.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
So everybody that has been after me a little bit, guys,
this acc better hurry up and improve because it was
a flat dam disaster watching Clemson play.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I don't care about the comeback, Anthony, You're next.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
Yeah, the game we're.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Gonna talk about, obviously. I think the big one that
no one's talking about is the good Zaga Georgia game.
That game was a little start finish Day goes on
a twenty seventy three run in the first half and
they're already down twenty five points and they never closed
that gap within an inch after that. And it was
for the Georgia Bulltalk Drors teams I've seen play throughout
(39:13):
the season. I've seen some of their good games. I
see some of the games they didn't perform. But for
a single elimination game like this, they might as well
might even showed up to the tournament as an eight
seed or a nine seed. It looked pointless, thing like
they didn't even want to be there.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
It was so it.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Would make moves, didn't hit shots. It's just like at
that point, I would have selled them out for a
different team. I think some of the teams that didn't
get in. I people hate me. I think I you
would at least played them harder than that. They might
have lost, but it wouldn't have been a thirty point
blow up between eight and the nine seed, the eight
and the nine seeds. The gap benferential in the scores
between these eight and nine seeds have been terrible.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Great point, great point. I mean, no question, they did not.
Georgia did not try to compete. George, you got George.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Well, I'll go with the North Carolina game because that
was shocking to me. It almost looks like a different team.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
San Diego State. You're about North Carolina, San Diego.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
State, in San Diego State. I've watched them this year
in San Diego State, just not as slash. They can
really play ball, but North Carolina took them out of
everything they wanted to do, They moved the ball, they
played well. I mean, Jerry, it looked like a totally
different team that came out of there than what we've
seen play in the Act all year long.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
Yes, great point, George, San Diego State did defeat Creighton.
I want people to know that you're anim sent right, George.
They were a quality team and got destroyed. Guys, we've
got it all day today. Make sure you have your
televisions on. Let's watch and God William will be back
on Monday. Junior Bridgeman's service is tomorrow eleven am at
(40:44):
Southeast Christian Love y'all, talk to you later.
Speaker 5 (40:47):
Bye bye,
