Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Eve's Sports Radio. I just hate to
report that this is going to be Shannon's last day.
He's resigning from iHeartMedia. He says he's moving on to
bigger and better things. He told Matt Jones and JERRYE.
Eves go away, and that's the end of the story.
How many people believe it? I know I'm crazy sometimes

(00:24):
my best Shennon, it's April the first, and it's April
Fool's Day?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Shannon, did you fall for it? Lead?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I thought maybe you knew something I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Have you leaning?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Said?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
And I just wondered.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
I said, why am I here? Why did I get it?
Five o'clock this morning?

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Said, and I always told people when you let me go,
I've been fired so many times and say, and I'm
being out of Shennon.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
People are always worried about your failures.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Guys, I've been fired so many times and rehired that
it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Even bother me.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
I told him, call me, take me to lunch, but
don't even worry about it. I don't have to come in.
My feelings will not be hurt. I mean, shan't let
me tell you or what?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (01:05):
When the Utah Jazz cut me going into my third
or fourth year. Right, Frank Ladon and I are the
best of friends. His son Scottie has called the show.
He's been the joan manager of the Knicks Minnesota. Great guy,
I mean, great young man. They cut me, boy, and
we hugged each other, Frank Lady and I did and
I was hurting.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
He was hurt. Great guy.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Though John Stocky was just better than I was, Shannon,
It's all there was to it. Anthony, John Stockton was
better than I was. Okay, So I move on After that.
I bounce around, catch on again with the Hawks injure myself.
So that wasn't really like getting cut. I was still
getting paid, but you know, they still told me get
out of here. So that's still like getting fired, you know,

(01:47):
even though I do like being paid. When I get fired,
chanting that makes me feel better.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
But I also got fired from North Carolina and t
and the president there, Martin and I are the best
of buddies. When I go to homecoming with the I
don't know why everybody that fires me we end up
liking each other, but we do. I got fired from
the Clinton Cavaliers with John Lucas and I for John
was cheating recruiting Lebron James and I coached the first

(02:12):
two games, went out of two, but I got fired
from them. I got fired from the New Jersey Nets
with Butcher Beard. And let me tell you all funny story.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
This is true.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Now there's a controller with every NBA team and he
is the one who cuts the checks. Rheinburses you for
all your travel, anything that goes on. Well, in my
contract with the Nets, I had a car allowance. Who
are not a car allowance? I had an actual car.
Shahn't it right? So they fired Butcher and I after
our second season and I had the car through I

(02:43):
want to say end of July, and we got fired
probably the first of April. And Ray sxel was his name,
was trying to negotiate with me. He's like, okay, Jerry,
we'll give you the last two payments when you're going
to bring the car back.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
How much do you want us to pay your for
the car?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
I said, well, I had a little tourist back there, guys,
and this is nineteen ninety six, so shedding we negotiate.
He says, okay, good, I'll give you five in a
month for the car. I said, okay, no problem, I'm
in Louisville.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Now. He says, so what are you gonna do? You're
gonna drive the car back? When when I get the
car back, I said.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Ray, the keys are in my desk and the cars
around back hitting in the parking lot.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
He bust out, laughing I had left it. I just
didn't negotiated.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Like I had it.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I left the car right. I'm the best at this, shennon.
I told people I'm the best at getting fired. I'm
telling you. But he had paid me and I upped
the ante. I'm like, god, I got to bring the
car back. I said, you're going to give me some
money for that. Do you want it back now? He says, no,
we want it back. I said okay. So he says,
what are we going to get it back? I said, Ray,
the keys are in my desk and the cars are
run back in the parking lot.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Come getting bust out last, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Come and get it. You've got it.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
So anyway, but it's it's just always fun. But I
have been fired a thousand times. So Anthony, welcome back
to the show. How are you, brother?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I'm good.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
I'll over here and listen to that April fool story
you were telling.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Jeddy Leaning, I had him lean, that's all. He didn't
know he had not no, but Shennon, I said you
had left. I didn't say you were fired.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
I said.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Cheddon said, damn it, I'm out. He's going on vacation
next week. Anyway, Shannon, I just gave you earlier vacation,
that's all.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
It would have been perfect if on Friday, it would
have been perfect April Day though, yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
I couldn't exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
You know, everybody would have been like, oh, you're just
mancusse Shannon popped your hip out of place. So anyway, guys,
we got a lot to get to. Anthony, Welcome to
the show. We do have Greg Galliad calling in at
seven fifteen, Anthony, because he is going to help us
with this torpedo bat deal that's going on with this
Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So I'm glad.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
And what Ellie de la Cruz did yesterday with the
Reds two and two, you all do not jinx my Reds.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Stop it.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
There are more people, Shannon, that will start blowing up
my phone, don't jinks.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
The Reds. I am four for four in the final four.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
I am in second place in my selection, and I
think I'm twenty fifth in the women. So guys, don't
talk about my selection. I'm pretty good at what I do,
so don't you all jinx my reds. I just want
to flip it around, that's all. But he's gonna call
in and help us out with what's going on. I've
seen the Bats. We're gonna play that clip I sent you.

(05:26):
When Greg calls in, we'll go to break. We'll play
that out, and then we'll let Greg explain to us
general manager. He's been everything from chief cook and bottle
washer of the Bats. I'm telling you, he's clean toilets,
to clean seats, to sample the food, to help bring
in players to the bats and all the entertainment. And
it's a great guy who'll be playing in my golf

(05:47):
outing again. Ay, Shannon, you gotta play in my golf
outing this year.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Man. Do you play golf, Shannon? No, I don't play golf.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
No, you don't play golf.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Oh, okay, is needed.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I knew Matt had a golf tur I didn't know
if you played, but I was gonna get you to
play in it. But I've got eight I'm gonna drop
a name for you all right now. Jack Gibbons has
already committed to play. Talk to Jack in Indianapolis, so
he's in for June the ninth, So that's good. So anyway, Anthony,
what do we have, Man, give me some national news
before we really get going with things.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, so obviously we have a lot of stuff that
we got into from the last couple of days and
a couple of weeks. Actually, Final four is set for
the men and women's side. The games will be played
for the men's will be played on Saturday. Auburn will
be taken on Florida. Tip off will be at five
ZHO nine pm Central time, and then Duke will be
taking on the Houston Cougar, so tip off will be
seven forty nine Central time. Obviously, my dad and my

(06:45):
mom are going down there to check that game out
out in San Antonio. I can't wait until Buke beats Houston.
So bad is what they do. That means I'm one
step closer to winning this men's bracket. Increase my just
increase my paycheck. That's all I'm trying to do here.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Sounds like a hater, that's all, But I got you.
Everybody has their opportunity at the champ we'll find out.
We're gonna find out what happens in that game. It's
gonna be a great game, a great final four. I'm
looking forward to this, I really am. And the weather's great, Channon,
it's gonna be eighty five, eighty five. I love what
I hear, eighties. I just love warm weather. So I'm

(07:24):
looking forward to going down relieving on Thursday. So go ahead, Anthony,
continue And.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Of course then obviously we have the women's Final four
set as well too. They'll be playing down in Tampa, Florida,
so we'll be at a different venue. The Texas Longhorns
will be taking on the South Carolina game Cocks. They'll
be at seven pm Eastern time, and they will be
playing on April fourth for their tip off. Then the
Yukon Huskies will take on the UCLA Bruins. Their tip
off will be thirty minutes after the conclusion of the
first game, so that game will probably be around I'd

(07:51):
say nine to thirty or so, most likely nine to
forty five. It gets pushed back if the game takes
a little bit longer. But both of those games will
be played and the national championship game for the one
we played on April six as well at three pm
Easston time for the men's and women's finals.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
For that, we do have set.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Now for news for our U of L fans out there,
we did get the star transfer Adrian Woodie from Kannessall State.
He's a sixty five guard, one hundred and eighty pounds
out of Tuscaloos, Alabama. He was freshman year at Kannesall State.
He was Conference USA Freshman of the Year. He did
average eighteen points eight eighteen point eight points a game,
five point two rebounds, and three and a half assist.

(08:27):
He chose U of L. I think over a couple
of other big schools he had on there. I think
he might have had a couple of the Power five schools.
But that's a great pickup.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
PK.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
I know they got a young freshman coming into that
we did sign obviously earlier in the year. But you
gotta have more than one guard on the team.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I'm just gonna be honest with you.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
We've seen a lot of teams fall short when they
only have one guard. The big I mean, obviously there's
tons of teams that have it. The biggest one I
think that heard a lot was is Kansas. Kansas only
had one point guard and he couldn't score that well
with Dwyan Harris Is he was a prime example of
having one. They couldn't do a lot when he got
in vallece O where they were horrible and there is

(09:06):
I'm not sitting here bashing them. He wasn't even that great,
So it kind of doesn't say much.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Kel Brown's pretty good at it.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
I watched him a little bit in the dunk contest
last night. He didn't win it, but he did fine.
He's got some talent, so we have to wait and see.
Oh but just think about this though, same thing. Louisville's
got some great players. In Kentucky's got a strug. Well,
did you hear, Anthony, I sent it to you that
a took ah way someone offered him or take all

(09:34):
way fifteen million, alleged Libama throughout that kind of money
tend to fifteen million.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Come on, not for one't hear no way? But I
heard that. I'm just being honest with you.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I heard that.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
And then he's coming back to Kentucky says he's coming back.
That's a great and they've got Williams coming from Tulane,
big six eight shooter. They've got Marino six eleven McDonald's
all American like Louisville Jasper Johnson six war kid from
Woodford County. Anthony, I've never seen him, but they say
he's got skills.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
They really do say he's got skills.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
He transferred to one of the prep schools and they've
got Lewis coming in. So both teams have a lot
going on. I mean, Anthony, for last year, this time
when everyone was running out my man Swaggy cow, upset
with losing to Oakland and louis Boy had terminated Kenny
Payne for two dismal seasons and they were tough seasons,

(10:30):
no question. We had no idea where the programs would
be to today where.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Okay, great, thank you, we're gonna get the break.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
We got the one and only Greg but Anthony, but
for today, you've got Kentucky and Mark Pope. Everyone says
he exceeded expectations. He did Sweet sixteen, run toughest conference
in the country, multiple injuries. University of Louisville almost won
the a SEC thereby, and they did Anthony, that's just

(11:00):
legitimate now there's only one team in the a CEC
that was really.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Any good this year.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
It's just the facts. Guys don't get bad at me anymore.
The Commissioner of the a SEC says it has to change.
So now that Jim Phillips is exact words, so people
can leave me alone. The facts are the facts, and
we have to address it. Four teams in the NCAA
turning from the ACC is not acceptable. So you all

(11:27):
can leave me alone. Now, the ACC was awful and
must change. They're gonna fire everybody if they don't win
this year. They're gonna fire everybody other than Louisville p
K and a few other guys. Every coach is gonna
be on the chopping block. It's just unacceptable for how
poor that league was. But for both teams, guys, they're
in great situation. So look, we'll finish with the National News.

(11:48):
We're at seven to sixteen. We're gonna go to break
pay some bills because we've got to bring on the
one and only Greg Galliot. And the way it sounded
Shannon last time he was on last week, that my
front room, Shannon, my front row seat.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
I mean I'm right behind home plate.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
They got my name on him the way it sounded
to me, he has now put a price tag on
those and I got to get in a bit in
war with somebody, So Shannon, I may need to have
you take somebody out that sits in my seat to you.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
You got it, brother, That's all they're we're in.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Let's go to break its E Sports Radio. We've got
Greg Galied on the line. We'll be back in a second.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Seven.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yes, it is April the first. There are no more
April Fools jokes. I'm leaving Shannon alone. Shannon, do me
a favor.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Let's bring on the one in only, Greg Galiad Shannon,
don't let him teach you how to play golf though,
because he is a magician and he likes to take
people's money.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
I just want you to know that. Greg.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
How are you I I'm You're working and I'm not.
I'm finally on breaking.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
I'm glad, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
And when I'm working, you're on break. So welcome back
to the sports radio and we appreciate it. This is
Greg Galliot. You all general manager, chief cook and bottle
washer of the Louiso Bats period point blight. Before we
let you get going, I sent you a clip I
want us to listen to about forty five seconds about
this torpedo bat, and I want you to get into

(13:18):
what's going on and what transpired. I listened to it
with the Yankees, not Judge, but a lot of the
other players. And then we see La de la Cruz
and he's got a torpedo bat. So I said, uh, oh,
I've got to call Greg Galliot. So let's listen to
this clip, Greg, and then we'll let you articulate what's
going on with this new bat.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Play it for me, Matt.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
In what feels like a pretty unprecedented move, at least
something that I've never seen in my forty years of
watching baseball, the New York Yankees changed the shape of
the baseball bat. You can see it's like much fatter
there in the sweet spot.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
They basically loaded up the wood on the barrel of
the bat and then went out there and hit nine.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
Home runs and hung twenty on.

Speaker 7 (13:58):
The Brewers shape of Chisholm's back to it's got a
big barrel on it, Paul, it's actually a little bit lower.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Than the barrel.

Speaker 7 (14:07):
The Yankee front office, the analytics department did a study
on on Anthony Bumpy and every single ball it seemed
like he hit on the label. He didn't hit any
on the barrel.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
That's all that I needed. So Greg, here we are.
The analytics is changing every sport. We're now talking about bats.
Educate us on what's going on with this torpedo.

Speaker 6 (14:35):
Bat I like, and I'll expound upon what it was
just mentioned there in that clip that the Yankees had
a former employee who was an MIT physicist. I think
his name was Aaron Lenhart, and he was an analyst
for the Yankees organization and he got to working with
some of the players there and just noticed pretty much

(14:55):
a common concern from all the hitters that they wanted
to make more and better contact on pitches. And basically
all they've done is basically just taken and analyze where
the ball was meeting the bat and basically just increase
the sweet spot on it, like you would on your
golf clubs that you have in your bag, where you
try to increase the sweet spot on the irons that

(15:17):
you use Jerry and your driver so you can keep
the ball in the fairway. More so, the weight of
the bat has just been pushed down basically from the
top of the bat more into the barrel, and that
is the largest part now of the bat where it
looks like a torpedo. And so you know, like all things,
this will probably be copied and we'll just go through

(15:39):
the Major League Baseball as fast as possible. And I've
already heard the Reds have placed or asked for a
sales rep from HMB to come up to Cincinnati, and
the Reds sound like they want to put a large
order in for these bats, So I'm sure something's going
to really take off.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Is it illegal, No, it's not illegal.

Speaker 6 (15:59):
The rules they sall basically say that, you know, the
bat as long as it's smooth and round and not
more than I think it was two point six inches
I think in diameter in the thickest part of the
bat if I remember right, and not any longer than
forty two inches in.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Length, it's going to pass, so you.

Speaker 6 (16:17):
Know, And the manufacturer has secured permission from MEASU League
Baseball on the design, so right now, it's full steam ahead.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Well, let's talk about Ellie de la Cruz last night.
Rads are two and two and everywhere, and I'm telling
you do not jinx my rids. Everybody says, I jinx
the Reds. Great's I want to get this straight. All
these naysayers tell me about Ellie and what kind of
year he's going to have this year.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Well, I mean, for Ellie, it's just that to me,
it's a matter of maturity, especially as a hitter. He's
getting better and better at identifying off speed pitches, which
obviously was his weakness, which is most batters, young batters,
and his ability to identify a difference between a slider,
a sinker, curve ball and then put the thick part

(17:05):
of the bat on the ball. I mean, Ellie's got
so much talent, and to me, he just continues to
grow physically as far as being a skilled hitter. And
you see examples of it like last night. I mean
it was going on in spring training when I was there,
it just felt like Ellie had taken that next step.
And again, as you've heard me say, the key for
the Reds this year is health. They have just got

(17:28):
to stay healthy, not only their hitters but also their
pitching staff. And currently they have several of their key
members that are on the disabled list, and actually one
of them Andrew Abbott, one of their young star pitchers,
will be doing a rehab appearance for us while we're
on our road trip this week in Omaha, so he's
slowly getting ready to come back to Cincinnati. Alexis Diaz,

(17:50):
the closer for the Reds, is on the IL. Tyler
Stevenson's on the IL. You've got Gosh Rhet Louder, star
young pitcher who pitched for the Bats last year, he's
on the IL. Austin Hayes, the veteran hitter they picked
up from the Phillies, He's on the IL. So again
this guy. Get all these guys healthy, get them playing together,

(18:11):
get some continuity going, and I think the are the
NL central is winnable. So health is going to be
the key.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
It looks like to me early on that he could
be another Dodgers Yankees. Both teams are playing phenomenally, hitting
the ball well. I mean, the Dodgers have bought a championship.
We know that they've spent more money than God. Is
there anyone in your opinion that can sneak into those
two the Mets.

Speaker 6 (18:36):
It would be all again as we talk health. If
the Dodgers stay healthy, the Yankees stay healthy, they're gonna
be hard to beat the Dodgers. And you know this,
pitching is such a prime commodity in Major League Baseball,
and the Dodgers have a wealth of it quality starters,
So as long as that rotation stays healthy, they're going

(18:57):
to be awfully hard to beat. The interesting thing is
the Reds have a really quality pitching staff. The only
unfortunate thing is every member of that pitching staff, every
one of them, has never pitched a complete season at
the major league level yet, primarily due to injuries and
lack of health. So again, if the Reds can stay healthy,
you know, do they have enough offense to compete?

Speaker 4 (19:19):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
I would look for the Mets, like you mentioned the Braves.
If they can stay healthy, they'd be a tough club
to beat the Podres. Do they have enough talent to
compete with the Dodgers in the NL West, That remains
to be seen. But over the American League, I still
like Baltimore. They've got a lot of good young talent
that we've kind of played against here in our level.

(19:41):
Playing against the Norfolk Tides, who was the Triple A
team of the Orioles. We've seen that talent level that
they have, so it should be a fun and exciting year.
And again, I think the folks in this region are
in for some really good baseball again if the Reds
can stay healthy.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
I knew what the bats? When are you all coming back?
When can people come and see you? Because I got
no I wonder Shannon didn't believe that I had got
those front row seats and that they have my name
on them. He says, you don't have those. He's a
big baseball man. I said I did last year. We
might have to fight for him this year. But Shannon,
I want you to know. I'm sitting there with my wife.

(20:21):
I'm telling you this is a true story. Dead front
row and the bats are coming up, and all of
a sudden, I'm looking at the back of somebody's jersey. Shannon,
it was Joey Vado. I'm sitting there, going, I'm a
layman to this game. Greg educates me, Butch educates me.
Kyby Harrison. But I've been watching a lot more baseball lately, Shann.

(20:42):
But I said, maybe he's supposed people with the Reds.
Is it in the Reds game? So he's there warming up? Well, Shannon,
I was a little short that day. When I say short,
I needed a loan, so I asked Joey for a loan.
Joey said I had to talk to his agent about that.
That's a true story. Shit, we were that close. He says,
I'd like to help you, but you got to talk
to about agent. That's what I hear all the time.

(21:03):
And he was going too bad. Now Joey has retired, correct, Greg,
he has retired from the race.

Speaker 6 (21:08):
Yes he has. He has those kids you're talking about.
We've expanded the quality of those seats this year where
we've actually provided all you can eat, all you can drink,
which includes beer and wine. We have a private buffet
set up just for those two rows of seats back
underneath the tunnel there behind home plate. It's called our
on Deck Lounge. And it's interesting. Over the weekend, we

(21:30):
had some of our season ticket holders that sit at
the club level up at the second level the stadium,
up underneath the suites actually come down and spend part
of the game both Friday and Saturday. And we've already
got a couple of accounts that are now wanting to
move down there and have those become their permanent seats
because their theater style cushion seats. Again, the all you

(21:51):
can eat, all you can drink throughout the game, and
it's the best seat possible and it rivals floor seats
at an NBA game as far as I mean, you're
as close to the batter. Actually, you're closer to the
batter than the picture is. So like you you were
able to have a conversation with Joey Bottle, and you
are that close to the players, and you can hear

(22:12):
some things that maybe you don't want your little children
hearing being that close to the field. But it's a
really unique way to view and experience a bat spaceball game.
And if you'd like more information on those seats, just
reach our office at batspaseball dot com. We'll take care
of you.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Hold up, reach out to Jerry's at e sports radio
dot com.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
Geez jen, and we went to fight for him.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
Not gonna sit there anymore until Jerry starts giving me
some strokes in golf. Once Jerry starts giving me strokes,
I'll let him sit down there again.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
See that's awful. See he beats me every time, shedding people.
That's why I don't like it. That's why I don't
like people with golf. They always telling me.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
You don't like me because I went to Eastern High School.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
But I destroyed you at Eastern.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
I want everybody to know. That's all I want people
to know. But Greg, we appreciate your time, no question. Guys,
get out to the bats. It's a great environment. Shannon.
We're gonna sit front row. That's all there is to it.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Let's go. We're gonna sit front row. Kay, wait to go,
so Greg, appreciate you. Greg. You've got my golf outing
you always play June the ninth, Jerry.

Speaker 6 (23:18):
Before I go, I want to remind people thunder over
Loivills next weekend. No better place to watch it than
Louiville slugger Field. Get your tickets because they're going fast.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
There you go exactly. I mean, can you believe it when.

Speaker 6 (23:28):
It's thunder over Louisville and I'm afraid the waterfront's gonna
be flooded with all this water we're gonna get this weekend.
So definitely the best place to watch it is gonna
be a dry Louisville slugger Field.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
No question.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
That's I can't believe Derby's right around the corner guys,
Greg appreciate you guys at seven thirty two. Thank you Greg,
Thank you E. Sports Radio will be back after the break.
Greg Galliad is the best go experience the Bats. You
will enjoy it. Welcome back to the sports Radio seven
thirty six. Anthony, it's April the first, Anthony. Why does

(24:00):
everybody say I have to give them strokes in golf?

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Anthony? Why is that? Just tell me?

Speaker 4 (24:06):
I don't I guess you lie about your handicap or something.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I don't know, Anthony.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
I don't even gamble. There's no reason me to lie
about my handicap. You know, I'm not giving up a nickel,
but everybody wants me to give them strokes. There's going
to be a day, Anthony, that I'm going to get
good at this sport and I'm going to talk so
much junk to all of you on Frankie, Anthony, Greg Galliad, everybody,
Scott Bolwage, everyone that gives me grief about my golf game,
my wife, everybody.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
I'm going to get good at this game. That's all.
Just give me time, Anthony, give me time.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
So and we've got this final four, but we never
did get to cover the Kentucky Tennessee game yesterday on
social media. Anthony, a gentleman sent me along. He said,
I wasn't able to listen yesterday, but my phone blew
up because I heard all the cat fans were knocking
my balls for knocking them out of the tournament. So Anthony,

(25:00):
Greg Galliot was and Jerry's predicted Tennessee. George Williams yourself,
you took Kentucky. Now that the game has over been played, Yes,
Kentucky had great success against Tennessee. I mean great success.
I think they beat them seven or eight times. I
know they beat them five out of six until that game.
What do you think truly transpired in that game.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
For them? To Anthony, it looked.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
To me that Tennessee played with a desperation that Kentucky
did not play within that first half. And I didn't
understand why. I just didn't understand why. What did you
think watching the game but transpired.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
That game was?

Speaker 4 (25:45):
It was a little lopside to me, Obviously, I picked
Kentucky win, but I was completely wrong. They came out slow.
That was the biggest thing that kind of just threw
me off a little bit. So I obviously the first
half they got out scored forty three to twenty eight.
They're down by fifteen at half, which is a hard
deficit to overcome. Now, certain teams have been able to
do it throughout the year. Kentucky has done it against

(26:07):
other teams that aren't as good. They've done against Oklahoma twice.
That's he'll take an all away kind of carry both
of those runs in both of those But when you're
playing Tennessee is a better defensive team. They scored a
little better than Oklahoma does. And Gonzagon in my opinion,
I'm not a huge fan in the West Coast teams,
especially not Gonzaga, because they make it far every year

(26:27):
and never win. True, you've seen that a million times,
and I think the crazy thing, what the biggest thing
is the guy that I always talk about. They let
him score almost twenty points. They let the Kayi Zigler
score eighteen points. You're not gonna win a game if
you let a point guard who doesn't score go for
a double double. He had eighteen points in tenniss he played.

(26:49):
When Tennessee plays Houston, he probably had more turnovers than
he had points to sists combined.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, one for dying, one for six. You're right about that.
He had more of his shots block than he made.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
That's a fact.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
In Kentucky. Let him have a field day like he
was just an NBA All Star. I was like, you're
not gonna win any games if you're letting the KaiA
Zigler kill you. I'm just gonna be completely honest with you.
You just you just can't. And the teams that neutralize
and then take away where he can just drive and
kick and kind of just drive around and do what
he wants, they lose the first games when they played him,
when they played that Tennessee in a Kentucky the one

(27:23):
of the biggest mismatch that we talked about. Obviously he
didn't play because he's hands er. Jackson Robinson killed ka Zigler.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
Yeah, he was taking that. I agree.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
I don't understand why. I don't I know Leablant Butler's
shoulder was hurt, But why he doesn't post up to
Kai Ziggler when he's six inches taller and probably has
twenty more pounds on him doesn't make any sense to me.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
And I mean he didn't, but he's still had He's
still he was seven for ten, four for he killed.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
He had eighteen points, six rebounds. He really did, but
his GiB.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
In a game, right in a game, in a game
like that, Yeah, that's the why.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
College.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Here's why, Anthony, and I agree with you completely.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
If they would have posted him more, it would have
created double teams.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
They would have had to have Gonne help that.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Boy Ziggler on the block against Butler, which would then
maybe opened up Brea and some guys to get some
easier looks to get them going. Butler still destroyed Ziggler,
but he didn't put it in a situation to where
Tennessee had to do something defensively rotation wise to help
for the size differential.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
That's why Denny Crumb would have forced someone to have
to help on that block, or he would have filed
Zigler out because there's no way Zigler could not guard
Lamont Butler and did not. I mean, Lamont still did
everything that he wanted to do in that game, even
in foul trouble, but they didn't put Lamont in a situation, Anthony.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
To where it helped other teammates.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
That's the only thing that I would like, if I
had to be critical Coach Polk, I would say that
with that mismatch, but you're right. Game before that, Edward's
just destroyeding because of his size differentially.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Now, Shannon, you were with.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
Me and we're sitting there, and in the second half, Anthony,
they subbed and I'm not Kentucky coach Pope.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Fantastic job.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
He overachieved, no question, But they put Noah in the
game with Chandler. Anthony, I'm sitting there with Shannon. Kentucky's
down twelve twelve thirteen, had just they had scored four
times in a row, and they allowed and they had
allowed Tennessee to get offensive rebounds and scored right back
three of the four times. So Shannon, we're very frustrated.

(29:39):
We're like, come on, Kentucky, you've got to stop them.
You're now scoring the ball. But when he subbed both, Shannon,
I said, oh no, not both of them, one of them.
Do not put both in the game at the same time.
It was at the ten to fourteen mark of the
second half. I said, you just can't do it. I said,
one run by Tennessee ends game. Shannon's like, yes, Chandler

(30:03):
hit that big shot at the end of the half.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
You remember when we were speaking about it, Channon, Oh, yeah, yep,
I remember, And you said Jerry Chandler hit.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
I said he did, but I said, I'm not knocking him,
but just not both before I get finished my conversation
being being dunk steal three. It went from thirteen to eighteen,
or it went from twelve to seventeen. Game was over.
That was my only issue. That was the only issue
that I had the entire game. Is that not at
that point it's a ten minute mark. The bottom line is, guys,

(30:33):
and I think coach Polks has learned it. Also, you
do a die. It doesn't take for thirty seconds to
kill you. When you've spotted a team, like you said, Anthony,
fifteen points, you have to stay the course. You cannot.
You have to play your best until their tongues drop out.
You just can't because a thirty second slip, that's all

(30:54):
that it was. They turned them all over, Shannon. We
couldn't see it, but a close friend of mine said,
they just threw the ball to Tennessee. They got up
and threw the ball away. We couldn't see it because
of all the managers were standing up. But a thirty
second segment ended the game for Kentucky, and that was
the only thing I said, Oh no, you just can't
not against Tennessee. You just can't do that. Yes, Tennessee

(31:17):
got walloped. The next game, Ziggler got killed.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
He did.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
But Kentucky and Tennessee is a different breed. It's a
real rivalry game. Both teams wanted to play that. The
poor managers never sat down for Kentucky both ends. I mean,
the benches were into the game, the fans were into
the game, the place was packed.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
But that was the only that was a critical mistake.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
I was like, oh gosh, and then dunk, next thing,
you know, quick inbounds pass, steel passed three game over.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
That was just bottom line.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
That endy Kentucky's chances to advance, to have a chance
to play Houston. But remarkable year for the Cats Tennessee.
I did not have them going any further. I had
picked Houston to beat them, and they did. I didn't
think they beat them that way, Anthony. A lot of
people said that the Kentucky game emotionally took all they had,

(32:07):
and I would have to agree with that, because Kentucky
looked flat against Tennessee in the first half. Tennessee was
thank you. Tennessee was very flat against Houston in the
first half. Anthony, So, guys, both programs are sitting in
the catbird seat. I mean that they're both Coach Kelsey

(32:28):
and coach Polky got their programs. They've established themselves as coaches.
People in the community. You know what they're about. Now
we have to do is just wait and see what
we can get out of the transfer portal and who's
coming and who's leaving, and what kind of teams they
put together for next year. But both programs are in
a legitimate great position. The ACC guys must improve and

(32:52):
some forty five of them will go to break. But
I just want you all know again, Jim Phillips, ACC fans,
I've called flag for five years.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
It's here now, Jim Phillips the commissioner.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
The facts are the facts, these quotes now, and we
have to address it. Four teams in NCAA tournament from
the ACC is not acceptable. Then he went on to say,
and three of the four left game one. Things have
to change.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
No more.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Don't let the propaganda tell you it's good. It's not
that league last year was so bad it was hard
to evaluate how good Louisville was.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Coach Kelsey did a great job. I told you all that.
But I told you I said it all throughout the year.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
You don't go from six and five to eighteen into
an ACC when Eastern and Utip almost beat us. I
was at both games, guys, I said, boy, and we're
winning in the ACC by twenty guys.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
That league was so bad last year was embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Other than Duke, Louisville and Clemson, there was nothing, I mean,
nothing good to say about them, and not North Carolina either.
And I'm a Hubert Davis fan, as you all know,
personal friend of mine, a really good friend to coach Beards.
I have nothing good to say about that league. It
must improve. EVE Sports Radio will be back with our
next caller, Anthony after the break. Welcome back to EVE

(34:15):
Sports Radio seven forty nine. And think we gotta get
to our next caller, Anthony Shannon. Do me a favor,
bring Bo to the show.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Bo. How are you?

Speaker 5 (34:26):
I'm great, Jerry?

Speaker 2 (34:27):
How about yourself?

Speaker 1 (34:29):
You know every day is a good day for me
When you're my age, Bo, every day is blessye.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Brother.

Speaker 5 (34:36):
When you when you're our age, I'm right there with.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
I know you are, I know you are.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
What's going on New what's going on now that well, okay,
day the dark sides out.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I know you are.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
People don't know that bo is a police officer, but
your dark side saying, Xavi, you went down.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
You didn't call me, You kind of ducked me for
a while. What happened?

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Yeah, I was, Yes, I was. I took my chance
to had my head beneath the sand like most good
ostriches do. And uh yeah, I was excited about that group.
I mean that you talk about a great good of kids.
I mean those guys, they all play for each other
and they're fun to be around. They're just great individuals.
It was a it was a great season that came

(35:19):
to an end way too soon.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
It was no.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
I love Jackson, I really do. I told people. He
bumped me at the l T I spoke to the team.
I didn't expect him. He walked right by my wife
and I and he bumps me on my shoulder.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Turned and look at him.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
He just looks at me with a little grin nods.
I said, yeah, my bruins alone. He laughed, and he
beats my bruins the next night. But you're right, great kids,
great kids.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
Dad and daddy's one great seeple individuals.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
You.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Oh yeah, his dad's a wonderful individual. I get to
see him often at the out here at More High School. So,
uh yeah, it's a great group of guys.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
It is.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
So you hit me yesterday and you were a little
upset with our conversation about what the name of and likeness?
You've got to spind on that, tell me what, what's
what's going on?

Speaker 2 (36:06):
What?

Speaker 5 (36:06):
Just like with anything that you that you evaluate or
you have an opinion on, history is one of the
most important things that you can rely upon. The history
of the law of supply and demand has been with
us since the ancient Greeks and the Romans and whatnot.
And the entertainment value. If somebody is willing to pay

(36:28):
you for entertainment, then your dollar figure that you make.
So why not these kids that are been playing, and
everybody's been making a great deal of money off of
their entertainment value.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Why shouldn't they be.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
Able to decide if they how much their entertainment is worth.
I said that, you know, the comment that I made
to you was if you if you uh don't want
to pay of the players, then don't charge as much
to get in.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
You know, you're or don't at all. You're not the
only one that has said that to me.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
Yes, I've had I've had a really close friends of
mine say the same thing to me about that.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Here's the deal.

Speaker 5 (37:15):
They don't have it. They don't have a problem. They
don't problem have having their handout when it comes to
people buying tickets, you know, give me more money, giving
them more money. But then the years, yes.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
Oh well for years. No, we're talking about for the
sixty seventy years. The NCAA has been in existence for years.
They have no problem with raising ticket prices when athletes
would get in trouble for a stick of bubble gum.
I mean, I know, I was telling Shannon, think of this, guys,
I want you all. We're sitting at the game, Shannon
and I right behind the Kentucky Bitch, and the place

(37:48):
is packed to the top. I mean, I said, Channon,
look at it. It was packed to the gills at
the top.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
I said, Shannon. People think this is new. I said.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
In nineteen eighty there were seventy two thousand, and I said.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
Double what's here right now at the super Dome? Double it?

Speaker 1 (38:07):
That's what we had in eighty two and players weren't that.
I mean, God, remember that they have been making money
handover foot. So it is time. Here's the deal. When
you get these things that I had someone send me.
You know that I trust when he sent this to me.
I still don't believe the amount. But they're saying that

(38:28):
Alabama had offered crazy money. You got me to a
take away crazy money NBA money. Well we just found out,
which I don't believe in that amount of money, but
I still did say I don't care if they played
college players a couple of dollars that they stay in.
The games have been fantastic. I don't care what anyone says.
The games have been the most watched since nineteen ninety three.

(38:51):
The games are great. Only a very few games.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Go ahead.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
This is this is the I'll be else. I'm not
a basketball pad, you know, I'm a football baseball game. Yes, However,
I have watched more games in this tournament than I
have watched maybe ever, and there because the fact that
there's been so many No, there's not been any you
know a lot of one point games, but there's been

(39:20):
a lot of great first halves. Look at that, I
would like to see what the scores are in the
first half throughout this tournament, that all of them are
fairly close. You know, somebody's they head by two or
three points and then they separate in the second half.
But they've all been great games. I mean, I can
figure one game that wasn't entertaining to watch.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
They've been great games. I mean, come on, let's be honest.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
Florida's had two games to the buzzer, Maryland wins at
the buzzer. No, they've been great games. I mean it's
there the most watch. But the deal is this anything
in America.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
I want people to listen to you.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
That's abnormal. Both they have been fed for sixty years.
That athleta oh yeah, billions of dollars. They have been fed,
and they have been fed and they have been fed.
So that's why it upsets people because it breaks the norm. Yes,
the money now is crazy. It will be adjusted. It

(40:12):
will be No business is going to go out of business.
Let me say this to you again. People are like,
it's going to go out. It's not going to go
out of business. You will see their guardrails will be
put on. Players will accept the guard rails. It's still
more than they can make if there's no league at all,
which is going to be and things will run smoothly.
It's just at the NCAA. Your president, you're a wildcat,

(40:34):
I'm a cardinal. They're hoo's your fans on Our presidents
didn't do their jobs, That's all I want people to understand.
Our athletic directors have not done their jobs, no matter
what we want to say.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
I took a picture with Mitch Barnhardt, no.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Matter what we want to say, Tom Jurorge signing that
long term deal with the ACC which is killed Louisville.
They have not done their jobs properly. That's all I
want people to know. But the entertainment value has not
gone down. People are watching it. They're great games. And yes,
I'm never gonna say that players shouldn't be paid. Boy,
I'll tell them right now. I still want royalties from

(41:09):
when I play. People like you're yourself. I'm not selfish,
you're crazy. Everybody gets paid in America for your talent, everybody,
no matter what it is, you get paid for it.
It's capitalism, and I've never had a problem with capitalism ever.
But the bottom line, restraints will be made and the
leagues will continue.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
And I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (41:29):
Honestly, I can't wait to see louivilland Kentucky next year.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
I think they're gonna be great teams. I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
So bo I gotta go. Thanks for your call, Anthony.
You got about thirty seconds. Brother, I need you to
close us out.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
You know what it is. I'll be out there all
day to day, nine to five. A town of Country

to the Final four when we come back tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (42:19):

Especially football wise. We got football news.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
We've got to cover, we got schedules out and oh
football's around the corner.
