Speaker 1 (00:00):
You say, give it up for the crier.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Six seconds, five seconds.

Speaker 3 (00:04):
Sure they walked. They can't touch it.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
They can't second.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Talks, che Chip, it's a great data felt Welcome back
to Eve's Sports Radio. Yes, what a fantastic finish last night,
if that's what you want to call it. My Houston
Cougars went down sixty five sixty three to the Florida

(00:37):
Gators and you all got to hear the last almost
nineteen seconds of a not get a shot off down
to finals. So of course we're going to talk about that.
I've got to bring on the one and only Anthony's
to the show. Andy, Welcome to the show. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
You know what? I'm happy at floor one. By the
same time, I'm mad that that's the team that beat
Duke didn't even didn't even get.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
A shot off, and they do that makes.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
It That makes our loss even more embarrassing. It just
gets worse by the day.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Well, let me tell you what. This is Eve Sports
Radio phone numbers five zero two, five seven seventy nine hundred.
We want to hear from you. This is Sports Talk
seven ninety kr D. We've got Rick behind the glass
and of course Anthony yesterday we had a caller that
set the airwaves on fire. People went crazy after that.
But we might not be civil today either, Anthony, you're

(01:39):
a Hunters incorrect. But we're not gonna get into that
just yet.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Not yet.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
We're not going to get into that. Oh we've got Ryan,
So we're gonna get to our first call to Ryan.
Just hold on because we're gonna come to you right away. Brother.
But I do want people to know that it was
a fantastic tournament. I am that it's over, don't get
it wrong. I'm just sleepy, you all. That's all. These

(02:06):
late nights are killing Methy. They're killing me. But we
watched every minute of the game, and what a game. Congratulations.
Florida was the best team I'm going to say from
mid December on. After Kentucky beat them and had to
play the best game they could ever play in their
lives to beat them, we knew Florida was formidable. I

(02:29):
think Kentucky beat them a hundred and sixt too hundred,
but after that the Gators started chomping away. So congratulations
coach Golden great job of course, Uh Clayton, he'll be
in the top ten in NBA draft. There's no question
about that. That kid is going to be very good.
He has got an exceptional skill. He can really shoot

(02:49):
the ball and handles his emotions as well as anybody
I've seen in college for quite a long time, because
he did have adversity yesterday. So and what we're going
to do is we're going to get to our caller,
and then we're going to get into some of the details.
You're going to do some of the national news, and
then we're going to get into some of the details
of this game from last night. I still thought it

(03:13):
was one of the better tournaments I had watched in
a long time. Guys, and everybody's talking about you know,
there were no Ben Cinderella stories. There weren't. But there
were some buzzer beaters, close games, comebacks, I mean, there
were a lot. There was a lot to watch and
to dissect in this year's NCAA tournament. So first and foremost,
let's bring on our first caller, Ryan, Welcome to the show.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
How are you thanks to take my call? Jerry, And
I just want to say the SEC's like Rogerie danger Bill,
they finally get some respect in basketball. That's the first
time Tennessee and Kentucky played in the nc DOUBLEA. That's
the first time Florida played at SC Auburn and the
NCUBA Tournament. And I actually think that SCC basketball is

(03:58):
better than their football teams. And I mean, who would
ever thought of that? But I've been saying it for
years now. I know they went out and hired good coaches.
I know the money spread around, but the money spread
around every place now, But Jerry, I mean, and I
want to say something to Anthony, Anthony, root for your team.
Duke has got got a great team. And uh, you

(04:22):
know I always my son likes Duke. I mean, he's
a lovel fan.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
I try.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I couldn't train him. I try to train and be
a Kentucky fan. But everybody's but.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
To train him. Okay, put that fans over. I'm bringing
cat fans to me. Don't try to train Okay.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Well, here's the thing. There's four or five teams I
don't like, and then I'll tell you why. I don't
like Duke. I don't like Yukon, I don't like U
C l A. I don't like Kansas North Carolina. And
I tell you why because all them teams are up
there wins with Kentucky all time wins and then cub

(05:03):
A wins. I cannot root for them kind of teams.
I'm a Kentucky fan, bullin. But I'm gonna tell you this, Anthony,
when I was a young guy, nine or ten years old,
and Louis Well, I was raised in Beautial and your
dad was raised in Newburgh. And I know your uncle
from Seneca High School because I want the Seneca, some
Seneca and purnk Creek. He was like three years older

(05:24):
than me. He was a great athlete, great athlete. He
don't remember me, but I remember him. But anyway, I
just I'm just I'm thankful that the SEC, I mean,
Kentucky they lost out. Coach Coach Pope did a great job.
Coach Kelsey did a great job, both of them. But
Coach Pope, he's got to go out and get some

(05:46):
more athletic players. Jerry, but that and and the other time.
One more thing, and I get off.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
One question. I got one question right, you brought this. Okay, Anthony, Okay,
let's just look at this. In Kentucky's year this year,
I said ten and eight. I wasn't considering all the injuries.
I consider some like Louisville had some. Everyone had some injuries.
That's why I told them it's part of the game.

(06:14):
But Kentucky had an extraordinary amount. I still they would
end up being ten and eight in the conference. They
had some of the larger wins this year. They beat Florida,
they beat Duke got Me. I mean, they have a
lot of great wins this year. And you think that
they have to get more athletic. Why do you think that.
Do you believe that if Kentucky was healthy where Edwards

(06:40):
was playing, that they would not have made a further
run in the NCAA tournament or do you think they
have to become more athletic to win it now?

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Jerry, I believe they would have made a part of
run if they would have been healthy. I believe that.
But you with all the other teams getting a lot
of these athletic players, you have to go out and
get some athletic players to be able to compete. I
know it's the money deal, but there's one thing. Kentucky's
gonna play bettermin again. You know, I'm a big betterman man.

(07:07):
I met you while the ex players, Butch Beard, George
and one of these days i'll meet you. Anthony, I'm
an old guy. I got real long hair. Your dad
didn't see me any here too, but it's a lot
longer than he used to be. And your dad said
it looked like a rustler. And the other thing. And

(07:28):
the other thing is that Coach Davenport is a great person,
and I was just hoping that he that I just
had that feeling that he's going to retire this year.
He's sixty eight years old. I'm seventy one. I'll be
seventy two in September. I'm an old man, but anti
when I was a young guy, before I do any better,
I listened to Louisbell on a radio. Everything was on

(07:50):
the radio when I come up. The only games on
TV was in the NCAA. And Louisvill's got a great
you know, they got a great They've had great teams
long Kentucky. Go all the way back to the parties
and right hold up.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
I'm right. I love you to stay right there now, Anthony,
I'm gonna ask you because Ryan did bring up a
question about Kentucky's athleticism, and Anthony, before I let you speak,
I want to give you some of the facts that. Okay,
Kentucky had a hard time with Alabama this year. Okay,
but Kentucky had wins against Missouri top twenty team as well.

(08:26):
We will know that wins against Tennessee drab me other
than the tournament twice top five team, right, That wins
against Texas A and N top fifteen team, that win
against Florida national champion, That wins against Duke, second best

(08:47):
team in the country period and young kids. I don't
get it wrong. You are Dukes. Hey, Cooper Flag is
a bad man. Don't ever get that. He is the
best player in the country and he was seventeen years
old all season playing against grown men. Yes, he missed,
but he's the best player in the country. Not close,
you all, not close. I never saw Larry Bird at seventeen.

(09:11):
But dang, I know one thing. Cooper Flag is really good.
They beat Gonzaga Anthony, Okay, Kentucky did they beat Duke
seventy seven to seventy two. So my question to you an,
do you think that Kentucky needs to change its philosophy?
I mean, coach Polk likes shooters. You know that you
knew a lot about him before I did you think

(09:32):
he needs to go get more athletic or do you
think he needs to stay with the course and just
try to stay healthy Anthony to compete for a national championship,
I didn't say win one. I just said compete that
always win one. It's hard to do, guys, only one
team wins.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
What do you think I think he I think he
still stayed with his philosophy. I mean, obviously he did
have a lot of ups and downs with injuries throughout
the season, but that's the way his play style players
has been, his coaching's down. The strategy has been probably
since he's been coaching college basketball. Even it was that
Utah Valley before I played them, before you went to BYU,
same play style. They stretched the floor. They always have

(10:06):
usually one big man that's usually physical in the paint.
The other ones are usually stretched four stretch fives around
with a bunch of guards. And that's how they played
the floor. They make it a lot easier, or you
can hit shots on the perimeter because it opens up
the paint so much. You can go to that physical
bully ball like a lot of SEC teams do. But
some teams they struggle to score down the stretch because
they don't have a lot of floor spacing. That's the

(10:26):
reason why Texas, A and M got eliminated so early.
It's like Missouri got bounced out so early. Kentucky could
have made a farther run. I think they weren't hurt
so much, but they know they made the best push
they possibly could against Tennessee. Beating the team three teams
in a row is hard to do. It's hard to throw.
A lot of teams did well. Alabama struggle. Alabama struggled
against Duke two because they couldn't stress the floor that well.

(10:49):
So you've got to be able to stress the floor
a little bit. Now that does that have to be
your whole game plan of how you play every team? No,
because one, college players don't shoot the ball that well,
and two it's hard to consistently do unless you a pron.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Do it all the way. Yes, no, No, it was
Curry and Klay Thompson changed the dynamics of the whole game.
But Ryan, I hate to tell you, I'm leaning with Anthony.
I'd like to see coach Folks stay the stay of
the course. Yeah, he may need to get a more
not a dominant presence, but a person that really does
like to score it in the paint to have more

(11:26):
of a little interior game. But honestly, Ryan, Kentucky scored
the ball with everyone. They just had a hard time
beating Tennessee three times, injured three times, and that was
one of the games they didn't score. I'd like to
see him stay the course myself. Ryan, I'd like to
see coach Polk just continue adding to what he did

(11:48):
this year, just like I would coach Kill. Coach Kelsey
has gone out and got three or four dynamic guards.
I'd like to see him both stay the course and
see how far they can go with it. I think,
I well, great, Yeah, I'd like to poke a lot
of credit for this year because the SEC was the
toughest conference Ryan, in the country, Barnutt Barnett, and they

(12:09):
won it. They did what they were supposed to do.
They had two out of the four final fours, they
had seven out of the sixteen final sixteens. I mean,
the SEC represented like it had all year, so there's
no more question about that. There was a question before
this year they have floundered, but not this year. So
teams are gonna have to go and get the SEC

(12:29):
next year. I mean, that's what they're gonna have to do.
The SEC people will be shooting at them because of
what they did do in this year's tournament. Right, I
got Jerry's last thing. Hit Hit me with it, Jerry.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
They he did, he did a great job. And he
I mean he beat some good teams, like you said,
he beat Duke. You know, he beat Pouring to the
final four team. But anything, I want to tell you
one thing that I'm on history buff and I know sports,
I know politics, siding. We ain't gonna get in politics.
Here's the thing, and I demo of the Bible, here's

(13:04):
the thing. In our early nineteen sixties, Mississippi State and
you can look this up, and had a coach named
Mabe McCarthy. They were not allowed to play against African
American players. They had a sneak out of town to
play in the NCAA Tournament in nineteen sixty three. Their
first game was against Lyles Chicago. They lost, but they

(13:27):
had a heck of a team. And Bailey Howe played
for the Mississippi State I don't know if you played.
He played for the Celtics. But SEC Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Mississippi State were good back in them days, they only
took one team. Your dad knows that, but I died
protect my college here.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
I appreciate your run. Thanks for getting up earlier. Right so,
and he looted and knows that you gotta meet Ryan An.
You're gonna die when your media Anthony's straight up. It
looked like ho get with the hair. It's crazy. But guys,
were gonna get to break at seven twenty. When we
come back, we're gonna have anney with the national news
because it is Master's Week. If people do not know,

(14:07):
that means golf is getting ready to kick golf. But
we're gonna jump into this game. And I've got some
questions for my listeners, and I want them to think
about it and truly call it and tell me what
they think. So any let's get to break Rick at
seven twenty. This is the sports radio phone numbers five
zero two, five, seven seventy nine hundred. Tomorrow, don't miss it.

(14:29):
We will have Greg Graham on. He's a golf pro
from different strokes, right I call it River Road golf Course,
different strokes. We know that it's flooded right now. I
hope that they get that all together. Great leadership, great owners.
And my man Toni's there from University of Kentucky. I
can't have him playing at Wildcat Music when I'm practicing, Anthony,
but my Mantoni's there. But we're gonna have Greg on tomorrow,

(14:51):
who has played the Masters, who has played on Augustus course.
That is gonna give us all the tidbits. I can't wait,
So take us away. We'll be by after the break.
Welcome back to the Sports Radio. April the eighth, twenty
twenty five. It's seven twenty four. You've got an eight
pm deadline. Yes, your employers do want some productivity. Now

(15:14):
the tournament is over. I cannot buy you any leeway.
We must go back to work now. Anthony's going to
give us the national news, but I have to put
this out before we're getting ready to pay up. On
the sports radio, Anthony's going to give the winners. They
have to call in speak with me, give me their
address so that leave your address with Rick and we

(15:37):
will get out your money. We're going to talk about
who the winners are. Yes, I did find out yesterday.
I'm sorry, not my fault that there were other brackets
out there. I don't know why. People impersonate Esports Radio brackets.
I don't know why anybody would do it. We're just
having some fun, just trying to draw some interest to
the tournament and just I mean, have some fun. But

(16:00):
it happened. So there are a few other accounts out there.
I can't pay on those guys. I'm only paying on
the ones that Anthony told everybody Eve Sports Radio bracket
hosted by Anthony and Jerry Eve. I'm sorry. I just
found out about them yesterday and there were quite a
few people. I mean quite a few guys. I'm talking

(16:21):
about quite a few, and I'm sorry about that. Next
year we'll do it again. I'd like to have you
all on my bracket. We'll make sure that Anthony again,
God willing, I'm here, Anthony speaks and lets everyone know
exactly but he said, but it had to be hosted
by Anthony and Jerry Eves. So Anthony, I'm throwing it
to you for the national news and by three winners.

(16:44):
One hundred and twenty five men's side, one hundred and
twenty five women's bracket, fifty for second, twenty five for third,
and I do think I have a tie for third
on the men's side, so you'll get twelve to fifty apiece.
It is what it is. I'm throwing it to you.
Take care of it.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Brother tie for third place.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah, and neither are two people if I'm let mean
look at this correctly.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Yes, now we're going on.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
We're going off.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
We're going off the we're going off in order. Well,
those top three names, yep.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
But if you look after after Justin Oliver, he's got
sixteen hundred and fifty points, Go cats. Jay Palmer has
sixteen hundred and fifty points. Anthony, I gotta pay them both.
They had the same they were tired, so they get
twelve to fifty. Not my fault, it is what it is.
But go ahead, go ahead, Anthy look.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
So for we're going to the women's first women's obviously
they played earlier this weekend. The winners for that, they're
just they're going off with just the first letter of
the first name, the initial and then the last name.
So for those who are listening, you're gonna have to
call in verify that because I don't know the first names.
It doesn't tell me what it is. So in the
first place, for the one was we do have m Brooks.

(17:57):
It will be one of one hundred and twenty five dollars.
The second place when we have we have Tea Webber
I'll be taking home at fifty dollars. And then third place,
we'll have M. Finwick that'll be taking home the twenty
five for the woman's side. So if your name was
called M. Brooks, t Weber or M. Finwick, please call
on the Esports radio let us know. He can also
let our producers know who you are, be able to
verify you and get you that money paid out for

(18:18):
those contest winners for the men's side. For the first place,
we do have Tea at least te las Here. If
I'm teelaz Here, I hope I'm saying that right. I
hope I'm not butchering your name. If I am, I apologize.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
No, that's right. Teas there sixteen and seventy points. Anthony,
he was the winner. Great job, I mean great job.
He had picked Florida. Great job sixteen seventy. I went
for a second Anthony to twenty seventh in one game
I would forget.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
However, like six to the last page off of one
Duke loss, I said, all right, I got wrong, I
got you pick Houston.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
That's why he didn't get right. You got lucky.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
You even made it that far.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
We got your doochies. That's all we know. But anyway,
go ahead, go ahead with the other two and three.
We're gonna talk about it. We're gonna be honest about Euston.
We're gonna be honest.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
The second place, the second place win we have k Kelty,
they'll be winning fifty. And the third place. I guess
we're doing a time with Jay Oliver. I didn't even
write down the other third place name IoT. We're just
doing the top three.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
So it's Palmer, J Palmer and Jay Oliver had sixteen
hundred and fifty points apiece for third. Then it was
t Curry was fifth with sixteen hundred and forty points.
So we don't pay for fifth. You know, we like
to Kentucky Derby. I don't even know. You gotta be
in the top three to draw the check. That's all anthy,

(19:43):
that's all. There's win showing place is all we do here, win, win, win, baby.
So those are three I want everybody to know. Call
into the show, Lazir, Kay, Kelly, Jay Oliver and J
Palmer dream seeve give me your dress, guys, I don't
keep it. I'm not gonna come trying to get my
twelve fifty back. I'm not gonna make donuts in your yard,

(20:06):
trust me. I gotta go out here and cut my own.
And it's just too cold. It's cold out there. Got
it's cold outside you all. What's going on with the weather.
It rains for four days straight and then boy, we
could have had snow last night if we had any moisture.
It's crazy the weather is.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
I think I think we're missing some missing some heat upstairs.
For in the in the palace. My dad takes all
the heat to the basement. I'm up here in the
ski bibs and a beanie on. I'm freezing, and.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
The thermostats right down from I gotta just turn it on.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
You.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Nobody's been up there for years, so it just doesn't
get cut on unless guests come. So you gotta turn
it on anyway.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
You're doing the right thing.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
You're doing the right thing. And he's here getting his
money together so he can buy him a house. So guys,
you know it. You gotta do the right thing with
your kids, honestly, parents, and you know renting is not
the way, so anyway, So Anthony, those are our winners. Please,
we're gonna give these out every day this week so
that everyone will get their chance, that they'll know that

(21:10):
they were the winners. Again. Lazier on the men's side,
one hundred and twenty five dollars, Kay Kelly on the
men's side, fifty dogs and Jason Oliver, J Oliver and
go cats. J Palmer. You'll get twelve to fifty a piece.
That is the men's side, Anthony, give them the women's

(21:30):
side one more time. I'm gonna try to go over
there myself, but I always mess it up. Hold up,
I'll get it at now. I'm gonna be computer literate
for one time. I came in seventeenth on the women's
twenty seventh on the men. I went from second to
twenty seventh. I don't want to hear anybody crying. I
got robbed and I got robbed. We've got M Brooks
on the women's side one twenty five, t Weber fifty

(21:55):
and Inmfinwick twenty five. That is correct. So those are
congratulations to U. All four hundred dollars payout. It was
a lot of fun. There are a lot of people
that thought they would be in the top ten. I
thought I would be an end up zip o. So
and what other the national news do we have going on?

Speaker 2 (22:14):
We got a stuff, a couple of little small tip
thats I do want to throw in. But throwing out
a lot of the twenty twenty six projections for the
winners of the National Championship next year, U of L
is already in the top five. Now before I sit,
hear and jump the gun and be like U of
L is the top five contender next year. Have they
done well in offseason recruiting and through high school players?
I think he's done a phenomenal job. But you have

(22:36):
to throw in consideration that a lot of these teams
haven't signed any players in the portal yet. There are
so many players in the portal those numbers could either
go up or they could go down. For u of L,
they got Duke projected number one. All Duke has is
a bunch of high school kids. Again, we don't get
a lot of players in the transfer so we're kind
of in the same boat as we're going to be
how we were this year if next year. So those

(22:58):
are just contingent numbers or but just seeing Yuval's name
back in the top ten is still exciting news. I'm
not a huge u of L fan, but I still
love to see buzz of the city. I still want
to see past Hlsea be successful. Obviously, I got some
buddies that are on the team as well, so I
want to see them achieve greatness. Yes, I love when
UFL sports is good, football and basketball. It makes the
city so exciting, going to tailgates for football games, getting

(23:21):
rowdy up late at night to go to basketball games.
It doesn't matter what the cases. Even the men's baseball
team when they're good making the run for the World Series.
I went to some of their games. It's fun. Everybody
loves having a sports team that is good in their city.
I want to see UFL do good because I'm tired
of us being in the dumpster for the last five years.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
I agree with that Pop coach Kelsey one year is
turning around. You can't believe where the name is the
University of Louisville. He's really established it again. Here's the deal.
Then Kentucky was what Louisville was in the top I
want they say on one they were fourteenth. In Kentucky
was fifth and on one Louisa was fifth and Kentucky
was like third, And I mean both teams have started

(23:58):
to already get into this trans for a portal. But
Ryan brought a great question. Do people believe that coach
Polk has to change his philosophy or does he just
stay the course? Again, Guys, if I was coach Polk,
I wouldn't change the thing period. I'd stay the course.
That as many top ten fifteen wins as anybody of
the country played in a very tough conference and did

(24:20):
it with injuries. So a lot of people now they're
saying it nationally. J Billis said it nationally. He thought
that the ACC hurt Duke because it did not prepare
them for close and tough games. It didn't. He said
it last night. I'm gonna play the clip where he
said it, where people will hear him say it again.
See your conference being good helps people. It's not Oh,

(24:44):
we only lost one or two games. Kentucky's ten and
eight was a great year. It prepared them and that's
what the conference. You want your conference to do. So
this year, without a doubt, there's no more question the
SEC stood the test. It did it. A's the test
and Florida's now third time national championship for Florida. Billy
Donovan did it back to back and now Florida's done

(25:07):
it again Coach Golden, So congratulations everybody. But yes, both
teams are off to a great start in the transfer
portal and it's funny to see how they're doing it.
We're gonna get into Kentucky tomorrow. Louisville has done it.
Guard heavy laden, the McDonald's all American Brown, the three
transfers from Xavior kennesall State. They can all score the ball.

(25:27):
They shoot the three at a high rate. We know
coach Kelsey likes that. Just got the young man from Virginia, Anthony,
another shooter, so louis was gonna have an abundance of
shooters for coach Kelsey next year. We're gonna see how
Kentucky builds its roster. And we're gonna get into later
in the show the legislation of the House versus so

(25:48):
that you all understand when I say the House, guys,
that is not the House of Representatives. A lot of
people get it wrong. That's not what it stands for.
It's grant house. A player that sued, then a lot
of people get that twist. So anyway, and we're at
some third, we're gonna go to break when we come back.
We got to talk about my Houston Cougars, and I

(26:10):
was not surprised. I told you they wouldn't get a
shot off. Coach Sampson. I love his discipline, his mannerisms,
the way he makes his team handle himself, his decorum.
But when you're talking about offensively, I told you anything,
they would not get a shot off, and they did not.
Eve Sports Radio seven thirty five will be back in

(26:32):
a minute. Eve Sports Radio seven thirty nine. Yes it is.
What is the date again, guys, it's April the eighth.
Didn't mention it. But again, there are a lot of
people that have lost a lot of things in this flooding, homes, furniture, cars.

(26:52):
As long as you got your loved ones will help
you put it back together. That's what we've always done.
I always tell people cheer already starts at home. I'm
not going to ever change that statement. But if you
can help someone, please do. Red Cross is a great
place to go. There's no question. Goodwill donations a lot
of things we can do, and America we are giving
people it's kind of gotten a little crazy right now,

(27:15):
but we are giving people, so we have to make
sure that we help because there are a lot of
people that are struggling right now through and just this
climate change in the weather and what's going on. So
let's make sure that again, if possible, give that's all now, Anthony,
we had one person, t Weber t. I want you
to call back in I get your money out. That's

(27:36):
not a problem. But t Weber came in second place
on the women's side, Tea. I want to talk to
you all, my winners. I want to talk to you
all for about thirty seconds to a minute. You may
have a special system why you picked your team or
was it the coaching staff style of play, So please
when you all call in to get your money, not
a problem. I want to speak with you. So now

(27:57):
that Rick knows Rick when they call in, hold them
on the lineup because I want to talk to him.
But yes, to Weber, I do have your address and
I'll get that out to you today. Now, Anthony, here's
the deal. Let's talk about Houston. We have to. Yes,
we know that Houston's gonna always muck up the game,

(28:17):
and we know that they're going to play strong, physical
defense that coach Sampson does know they're going to be
limited offensively. I think they were thirty and oh when
they held teams under seventy Anthony, guess what. This game
was under seventy and they lost for the first time.
That's how they play. I understand that, but you still

(28:39):
need to have an offense. Last Monday, I want people
to understand they had just defeated Tennessee, and Tennessee almost
made a comeback. I told you all that I was
upset because they couldn't get the ball in bounds last Monday.
You can go and listen to my show. They didn't
have press breaks. They didn't know how to attack presses.

(29:00):
The Sea almost got back in the game against Houston
the same way Houston did. Duke Well, Anthony, last night,
we're sitting here all watching it. You know, going crazy.
I told you in nineteen seconds ago, yes or no.
I need to tell you they won't get a shot off.
They were not, and I wasn't playing. They would not
because they do not execute offensively. Coach Beard called and

(29:24):
Sampson's a great coach. Guy has been the Final Four twice.
Now he's a super defensive coach. Coach Beard called me
during the second half of the game, one of the
only calls I took during the game. I was watching
it last night. He says, Well, I guess coaching is
about toughness and who can be the meanness. But execution
just left the window, flew out the door. I said, coach,

(29:47):
you're correct, because that's what the announcer said that. Coach
Sampson said during his time out. Well, guys, Coach Crumb
would tell you, execute you when you hear all this
iron sharping's iron and you hear all these sayings that
make you think all big and strong and tough, Anthony,
Execution is the name of basketball and football. Who's gonna

(30:08):
execute what they practice? And this time it bad Houston
in the button they had four turnovers Anthony, the first
thirty six minutes of the game. They turned it over
five of their last eight possessions. Houston did didn't get
a shot to lose by two. Didn't get a shot,
and that is the problem execution. So I'm gonna let

(30:32):
you have your minute. Tell everybody what happened. You were
having guys and new so he said, it's good. I'm
so glad they lost for beaten Duke. But any what
did you think happened that last five minutes of the
last night's game, Well, we.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Saw this should have happened Saturday night, but one team
couldn't put it together like another one could. Heuston, they
win her by twelve. There At one point, I think
was sixteen minutes ago, they were up forty two to thirty,
and everybody the goal. You know, in my head like,
do I have doubts? I was like, not really, because
I was like, Flord's kind of been in the situation
a few times, and I'm just I'm just not sold

(31:06):
on Houston, Like I'm not I'm not hating on Kelvin Sampson,
but I'm like their team gets glorified and hyped up
so much. He's a great coach, I'm like. And then
we had debate yesterday time. I was saying, also, all
the coaches don't win national championships are bad coaches. I said, No,
I didn't say that. Has he gotten a lot of accolades, yes,
but is he technically a really winning coach? No, because
he's never done it. I'm like, getting to the final

(31:27):
four isn't accomplishments at itself. Reaching the tournament is a
conference out hisself. But there's a difference between winning a
championship and just making it to the tournament as a
participation award that he's done the last five years. I'm
just like, at this point, we know Houston's gonna be there,
they're just not gonna win. I kind of throw them
in the same pool as Gonzaga. Gonzaga always makes a
deep run but never wins either. So it's like, Okay,

(31:48):
they're a team that's gonna be twenty five plus but
no wins. And then I say they're saying I was like,
if you look bad at all the legendary coaches that
we say are really good coaches, they all at least
have one, and you said you got to have one
to get one. It's like, yeah, but he's in there
five times. He's not the championship. He's only won a championship,
but in the tournament with one of the best teams
every year. He's onering five in the last five years.

(32:09):
Duke's in the same boat. But I will say at
least Duke has them within the last ten years. Winning
championships isn't easy. We all know that's best great program.
Un t he's in a slump. Kentucky's in the slump.
They have won since twenty twelve. U Come's one of
the only teams that's recently been went on the tear,
winning the Tournament of consistently. So I sit there. I
don't want to sit there and just kill the man
and just knock him so much, just because I'm not

(32:30):
a Houston fan. But I can't throw him in the
Great Coaches if you can't get the job done over
and over and over and over and over again. That's
why I sit there. I won't throw John Shyer in
a Great Coach either, because he ain't want anything either.
He's getting bounced out left and right, just like everybody else's.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
I got you know. I mean, you're a tough critic.
I got no problem with it seven forty five on
the Esports Radio. But as long as you keep that
across the board, Anthony, as you continue to do this show,
I have no problem with you. I just won't let
you be wishy washing. But no, if you have changed
when we're evaluating when we're evaluating, no, I agree, you're
not when we're evaluating great coaches. Do you want them

(33:07):
to get a chip? I understand that.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
And they have one guy throw even coaches in your era.
You look at the John Woodens coach, k Is Mike's,
you know.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
Even Joe Hall.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Any coaching like you know what he was doing.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
He's a great coach.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
They have at least just one.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
There's the deal.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Rick has got one. Even though the took away Ricks
got one.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Coach that one, well, they took away the Louis one.
He's got a Kentucky win. No, I mean coach.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
One that seem that the thumb outside of basketware had
nothing to what they did on the court.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
I'm sorry, but here's the here's the only deal. Here's
the reason why I can't give you that, because, Anthony,
if the rules were applied and it was caught when
it should have been called, Anthony, the players that won
the championship would have been ineligible to have played by
the rules. That's why you can't give them that one.
Because they did, Anthony. I saw it all. I saw

(34:06):
the pictures, I saw the parties they did, and I
saw the money in the pictures at the parties. That
means that players that want it would have been ineligible
so you see that in nineteen eighty, Anthony, they found
out that Larry Brown that she didn't give in those
players Rocket Rod, Foster Pro, Michael Holden Pro, Sanders Pro,
Kiki Vandway Pro, that they han't gotten money. Anthony. They

(34:27):
took him out of second place from in nineteen eighty
because the players that helped get them there would not
have been able to play if they were caught on time.
That's why only reason. But yes, the players that played
are good. RUSS pay them. Guys are good, period, point blank.
But that's the only reason. Now here's the deal. I
got a little I told people it's seven forty seven

(34:48):
and I'm gonna go to break. It didn't surprise me
that Houston did not score, Anthony. I told you they
wouldn't get a shot off. It didn't surprise me because
they do not know how to execute an offense. And
you're right, Coach Crumb. Going into the are spring at
halftime of our UCLA game, Anthony, he had been to
Final four with Junior Bridgeman, Final four with Jim Price.
Got me. He's knocking on the door right away from UCLA.

(35:11):
As an assistant to Louisville, he knocking on the door.
Denny Crumb looked at us, and he never cursed Anthony,
but he did say dang it. He said, dang it,
we have to win us one to establish ourselves. Yes,
he did. Everybody on the team, I tell you we
looked at him. Coach, did you swear? And he but

(35:31):
A'll wul be honest with you. I was so mad
at myself, Anthony, because I told you last night, guys,
athletics is funny. I played like a straight punk in
the first half. I was fuming at half time. I
didn't know if he was gonna start me in the
second half, Anthony, I was so mad.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Well.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
And two years after that, I watched the game, Rydy
McGray throw me the same thing and I looked up.
He grabbed an offensive rebound, missed a put back while
they Brown missed the lay up. I missed the layup.
I got offensive rebound, shot it in the corner of
the backboard in the rim, Anthony, I was so mad
at halftime. I really what coach said until he said
the word dang it. And I heard that, and then
Deyl Griffith jumped up and said, coach, we got this,

(36:06):
and we went out but I swear to you, I
wasn't listening to a damn. I was so mad at myself, Anthony,
because you have to do it when it matters. And
I tell people all the time, second half, I was
the best player on the floor. I'm not patting myself
on the back. I'm just being straightforward with everybody. I
an't miss a shot. I had to prove to myself
that I could get it done. Anthony. It is a

(36:30):
saying called nut cutting time. It is you gotta get
it done. If you think you're the man you think
you are when it's that time, Houston's gotta get a shot.
I told you they weren't gonna get a shot. I'm
not going easy on coach Sampson. They gotta get a shot.
That was embarrassing. You all said, Duke choked. Okay, Court
was shot it. Missing is not failure. Not shooting it,

(36:55):
that's failure. I'm just telling you. And I was in that.
I sat in that locker room, no points at halftime,
have my shot blocked down, my throat, turned the ball over,
missed offensive rebound put backs, Anthony, it is a certain time.
And coach Crumb said, I've been here too much. We
got to get it done and we did, so you
are correct in that statement. To verify yourself, to put

(37:20):
yourself where you want to be in as an athlete,
and everybody doesn't get that opportunity. There are a lot
of players better than Jerry Eves that did not get
a chance to have the second half in a national
championship game. But you have to get it done. So
when we come back, I'm gonna give you all the scenario.
Everybody wants you to think about it all day to
day and tomorrow. I want people to call it in
and let me know which era was the best. After

(37:42):
the break is E Sports Radio seven point fifty. We'll
talk to you in a minute. Welcome back to E
Sports Radio, Anthony. Here's the deal. Florida this year, seventy seven,
seventy five victory over Ukon. We all remember coach really
walking out cursing two point win. Florida eighty seven seventy

(38:06):
one over Maryland. Easy win. Florida eighty four seventy nine,
went over Texas Tech. I thought Texas Tech had the game.
I think ESPN had them at a ninety eight percent
rate at winning. Florida came and got them Florida seventy nine,
auburns seventy three, Florida sixty five, Houston sixty three, Florida's

(38:28):
national champs. Got me, Anthony Walter Clayton. I mean, I
love him, great shooter. I can't wait to see him
at the next level. He came through in the crunch
for his team. He really did. I'm gonna give you
all the comparison. Now, we've got three point lines, we've
got shot clocks, Anthony. We got three officials that never

(38:49):
do their job. Got me. But we have all these things.
We've got thirty five coaches, we've got workout coaches, We've
got money, We've got the whole nine yards. Now Here's
University of Louis nineteen eighty first NESTA Championship, seventy one,
sixty nine overtime went over Kansas State. Kansas State had
two pros on the team, Orlando Blackmin's one of them.

(39:10):
Perennial five times First Team NBA player. Second game overtime
win sixty six fifty five over Texas A and M.
Third game eighty six sixty six over LSU Rudy Micklin's team.
They had three pros on that roster Anthony three pros

(39:31):
in the League of twenty three twelve perteen fourth game
Louisville eighty, Iowa seventy two in the Final four, eighty
eighty six in the Elite eight to go to the
Final four championship game fifty nine fifty four. Because championship
games are rock fights. All I'm asking you at is this.

(39:53):
You got three point lines, you got thirty second shot clocks,
you got people throwing it up anytime they want. If
you look at the scores, anthy, they look almost identical
to my nineteen eighty year. So I'm asking you is
basketball better?

Speaker 2 (40:15):
I'll say when I say skill wise, yes, I think
the skills a little bit, a little bit greater now,
while I say the mentality, which is a big part
of basketball, it's a lot worse. That is a big differential.
I think mentally, this this era is a little mentally weak.
They don't do super well with adversity. Hard a little
bit more difficult, I say to coach, even I've known

(40:36):
from coming up, even players I played with a harder
coach with. Sometimes a lot of them are just kind
of cry baby. Either they can plain a lot or
they get mad when things don't go their way or
they like having a little Daddy sunball going on. Back then,
I don't think that was an issue. More so, the
issue was people were trying to catch up to people
in that talent and that skill gap. That was a
big differential. I think back more in the eighties and
the nineties. Who was the skill gap? Now you got

(40:58):
kids that I think they have more higher ceiling potential
now wise, But will they reach that cap I don't
think so. Ninety of them won't just because they're mentally weak.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
And I think tomorrow, there you go tomorrow, because we've
got to go. I'm gonna finish this because I'm gonna
give people a comparison between Walter Clayton Jr. Who is
very good, First Team All American guys and he say Florida,
he MVP, and Daryl Griffith. And I'm gonna ask you
all now that I've given you the comparison of the
two best guards on the championship team, who would you take?

(41:29):
Ant You might change your story when you hear these stats.
Eve Sports Radio guys, great job, Ann love you all,
got will and we'll be back tomorrow. Stay warm, bundle up,
its cold outside Bye, bye
