Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio. Yes, it is Wednesday,
April the ninth, twenty twenty five. It is hump day.
I'm sorry that we missed our commercial, but that's okay, Rick.
Those things happen, but we love to have our hump
day commercial to let everyone know that it is Wednesday.
And I am happy it's Wednesday. We're halfway through the week.
(00:23):
I think I slept all day yesterday after I left work.
But let's get back to business. E Sports Radio phone
numbers five zero two five seven one seventy nine hundred.
That's five zero two five seven one seventy nine hundred,
Sports Talk seven ninety kr D, and let's welcome Anthony
Eves to the show. Anthony, Welcome to the show. How
(00:45):
are you, good morning? I'm doing well.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
How about yourself?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
And I just think I slept all day yesterday. But
I did cut my grass, got my exercise in, went
to work. I did a few things, got a few
things accomplished. But after that I slept the entire afternoon.
I really did. So we're back here. We're back at it, Anthony.
And it seems like, oh, well, you'll have a little
low because there's no final four are you kidding me?
(01:10):
If people don't know, the Master starts tomorrow, so we
will have Greg Graham calling in today. People don't know
that he has played in Augusta. He is a professional
golf pro. He is my teacher, without a doubt. I
have definitely improved. I want people to know that. Definitely.
You'll need to check him out if you want to
(01:31):
find Greg Graham. Of course I call it River Road
Country Club, but it's called different strokes, great leadership, two
young people, great athlete at University of Louisville. It's the
Olympic athlete at the University of Louisville was married to
a gentleman that played baseball. I believe it Arizona State.
But I want you to get out there because the
person that runs it is named Tony and I told you,
(01:54):
and he's the person that plays the cat music when
I'm trying to practice. So Tony, I will be coming
back out. Trust me. I'm not frightened. But Greg Graham
if you all want to find Greg and you do
is Graham g R H A M Academy AC A D. E.
M Y at PGA dot com. His telephone numbers five
(02:14):
zero two eight two one fifteen sixty. That's five zero
two eight two one fifteen sixty. We'll have him on
after the second break, Anthony, So I want people to wait.
He will enlighten us all the things that goes on
that I didn't know I do now, But I want
to enlighten our listeners again. So any I'm gonna throw
(02:36):
it to you in a second, but I want to
finish with yesterday. I made the comparison. I ask you.
You gave me a great analogy had basketball proved. I
want people to just to hear these stats one more
time before I let you do the national before Greg
calls in. I loved the games. There were some of
(02:58):
the most watched games this year, the highest in six years,
eighteen point one million viewers. It peaked out at twenty
one million for this year's tournament. Through all the things
we've talked about, name him, to likeness, the movement of players,
all that, they were great games and it was really watched, Okay,
but I still wanted to compare nineteen eighty. I want
(03:21):
people to understand no three point line, Anthony, no shot
clock Anthony. Okay, two twenty twenty five with a shot clock,
have to shoot the ball and a three point line.
The scores Florida seventy seven seventy five over Yukon good game.
I watched the game Louisville seventy one sixty nine over
Kansas State, Florida eighty seven seventy one. Second round Louisville
(03:45):
sixty six fifty five overtime game against Texas A and M.
They held the ball, guys, they held the ball. They
could there was no shot clock. Third game Florida eighty four,
Texas Tech seventy nine Louisville eighty six sixty six over LSU.
Got me SEC Champs. Rudy Micklin really good player from Louisville.
(04:08):
Semifinals Florida's seventy nine auburns seventy three, three point line,
shot clock, Louisville eighty seventy two over Iowa. Ronnie Lester
high pick. Anthony was cooking me. Rodney Lester was cooking
Anthony seriously. Eighty seventy two, no three point line, no
shot clock. Championship game sixty five sixty three Florida Louisville
(04:33):
fifty nine to fifty four over UCLA. Clayton, Oh word,
Clayton is really good junior. He's really good. So I'm
just making the comparison, and we won't know until we
followed Walter Clayton junior into the pros. Darryl Griffiths was
our dynamic guard. Anthony jumped out of the gym, had
one of the sweetest jump shots you'd ever seen. Average
(04:55):
twenty four points a game. Anthony with no three point
line and no shot clock. So went on to the NBA.
First year, bad team Utah was bad. I want you
to understand that twenty three team league Boston Celtics, Lakers,
really good basketball, physical basketball. Anthony and average twenty points
a game, was Rookie of the Year. So I'm asking people.
(05:17):
By the time I got to the Jazz, Daryl's fourth year,
we were turning it around. Daryl was turning it around.
Fifth year, my second season, Darryl's fourth season, we're the
third best team in the Western Conference. Anthony, we go
to the semi finals. Fifth year John Stockton comes. You
all understand Stockton and griff Sixth year Carl Malone comes,
(05:40):
and Daryl was part of one of the best runs
ever from a franchise. Dweller, Anthony doing it the right way,
players being drafted, no free agents coming in thorough Bailey
was drafted, Mark Eaton was drafted. He was rookie with me.
Daryl Griff of average over twenty points a game. Guysne
had a fantastic career, So I'm saying that Daryl was better.
(06:02):
We're gonna wait and watch Walter Clayton's season as he goes.
He is gonna be a high draft pick. He is
a very good player. But I still put my chips
on Griff, and yes I am, and they like I
told you, he never yelled at me. And I played
with that man five years. Never the best player in
(06:23):
the country easier, not one time and not one time.
So that's all I gotta say about Dryl Griff. That
is the truth. Adrian dat Letting, I argued, like cats
and dogs, fought on the bench, Anthony, but not Griff.
If anything, keep your NP's keep pushing. That's all that
man would ever say, ever say. So anyway, we'll wait
and see. I'm putting my chips on Darryl, But I
(06:46):
just wanted people to see that when we're talking about scoring, Anthony,
and we're talking about tournament, when it counts, guys, the
game hadn't changed. With all these rule changes, it hasn't changed.
So we'll watch. We're gonna watch Walter Clayton Junior, who
had the best Final four since Will Chamberlain, Jerry West.
(07:06):
I'm not taking anything away from that boy. I just
want to watch him. He's going into a thirty team
NBA league with eighteen players on the team. He's going
to get a chance to play. Let's just watch him.
We'll get to I may be wrong, so let's just
evaluate it. We'll talk about it this time next year
and we'll talk about it. So now I want to
though it to you before we go to breaking Greg,
(07:26):
cause in let's have some of that national news.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, so we got a ton obviously with the national news,
we still got to get our men's and women's contest
win it. So obviously for the women's side, we did
throw him out yesterday, but just kind of going over
it again, we did have Peen here who did I'm sorry,
what was that?
Speaker 1 (07:45):
I said, Yes, throw it down again, go slow so
people will know. Call in. I'd like to talk with you,
but I've got Greg on today. So if you want
to call tomorrow, you can call in and give me
your address, so I can send your money out, but
I'd like to talk with you. So I'd like for
you to call back getting tomorrow Friday, so we can
just discuss how you pick these winners. But please listen
(08:06):
so that you can get your money. Go ahead, And.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
So for first place for the women's we do have
Tea Lazier. In second place we have Kay Kelty and
the third place we have Jay Oliver as well on
the women's side, and I know we do have another
one that the woman tied for the third place spot. Yes,
Jay Oliver tied with one other person.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yes, I took a picture to Anthony, I'll find that.
Let me see, I did take a picture of it
with I've got it. Hold up, come on, blow up
so I can see you. Yes, the women's side, you head.
Let me see we had godly is that that's not
the championship And I'm messing this up.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
I think we might have got the we might have
got the order back because there's different winners on here
than the one.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Let me let me go to Let's just go to it.
I'm gonna go to it again so we don't mess
this up.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
And because we have, because I have m Brooks.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
I have M.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Brooks in the first place.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
And we're doing the women's side first. Correct, you're doing
We have M.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Brooks yep, and then I have T.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Webber.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
They both pick Yukon. And then in third place I
had M.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Finwick. Mfinwick is correct, and then LA's Seer T Laseer,
L Lee l e z e r. They both were
they finished.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
They in fourth place though, No.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
You're right, there was no tie. It must have been
on the men's side. No, you're Underson correct. This is
the first place is M. Brooks one hundred and twenty
five dollars, second place T Weber fifty dollars. Third place
is Infinwick for twenty five bucks. You're in correct. T.
Finwick had fifteen and thirty points, and Travis, I mean
at fourteen eighty. I don't know why we said that, but.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
We had them.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
We had them backwards. We had those these are for
the men's side, those are the winners, so we just
had them back up. I might have rolled them backwards,
you know. I apologie for those on there. I think
I might have rolled backwards being silly. But regardless of
men's are a womans, it's still the same amount.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
But it's the same amount of money exactly.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
They get the same if M Brooks, T Weber, and
Infin or first, second and third in the women's side.
On the men's side, it's t Lazir k Kelty and
then Jay Oliver and J Palmer tied.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yes, there we go the men's side. They tied the
men's side. I've got twelve to fifty coming to two people.
That is correct, so yes, so make sure you get
your again, collect your money. It's a seven sixteen Eastports Radio.
We love our sponsors, loved to pay out the money.
My sponsors were even in the contest. Honestly, had numerous
sponsors that were in the contest. So it was a
(10:45):
lot of fun. I mean just really was a lot
of fun. So and yes, none of my sponsors won.
John Carney, Victrio, I had a lot of sponsors that
were in guys they did and win. So anyway, we
had a lot of fun with it. Make sure you
get your address telephone number in so we can get
(11:06):
you your money. Anthony at seven to seventeen, we're getting
a break because we're bringing on this guy here, Greg Graham.
It's the only thing I can tell you between the
Bradford Smith, Anthony Eves, Jeffrey Howard, Martin Dunbar for the
Simmons Golf outing. Guys, we have a great outing. It's
two thousand dollars a team. Yes, we raise a lot
(11:28):
of money for Simmons. I appreciate everyone, but it is pricey.
We're a big spring country club, one of the best
country clubs in Louisville. It's really nice. Right, everybody begs
he's Greg playing. I couldn't forget to bring Greg if
I wanted to half the players up playing. So guys,
when we go, no.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
One do any recruiting that that that's my that's my
superstar on my team. I'm throwing.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
I'm throwing.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
I'm throwing out our winning team right now. We got
in top five last three years, even though my dad
tried to split our team of last year trying to
cheat because you're too good. We ain't gonna talk.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
About it, but my stuff talk about it.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Le Brat Smith, Greg Graham and Martin Dunbar. We gotta
be one of the most dynamic squad ever put together.
Between skill, comedy and drinking ability. I think we're overall
number one.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
You're number one, Eve Sports Radio. We'll be back after
the break with Greg Graham, the best golf teacher in
the city of Louisvio. After the break, Welcome back to
EVE Sports Radio. April the ninth, twenty twenty five, Wednesday.
It is hump day. I make sure that you're getting
your way into work and there must be some productivity.
(12:44):
I cannot speak with your employers any longer. The Final
four is finally completed, so you must get back to work.
But we've got the Masters that starts tomorrow. We've got
Greg Graham again. I want you out to know where
to find him. It's Graham Academy g R A H
A M A C A D E M Y at
(13:05):
PGA dot com. His telephone numbers five zero two eight
two one fifteen sixteen, and he's without a doubt a ringer, Greg.
Welcome to the show.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
How are you, Jerry?
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Are you Bud? You see Anthony? There's your ringer? Hey,
any I got people bedding for services, so you might
have to up any and come up with some No Anthony, Hey,
I just want to know.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
One thing, like how do you get Anthony up this
or like he probably doesn't go to sleep, He just
comes straight in, straight into the show, right, there's no
way to.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Get you'd be surprised. I'm in bed, half sleep by
about eight thirty.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
You know it. Six point thirty comes early. Greg, you
know that it just is what it is, Yes.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Sir, listen, Oh before we get to the Masters, because
I want to know if Anthony knows the story talking
about basketball when Houston, you know, made it to the
final game. What went through your mind, Jerry about Houston
in terms of Louisville versus Houston.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Oh, I remember just that Billy Thompson, miss Dunk. I'm
being honest with you.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
How about the how about the Hachem recruiting story? Oh?
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yes, he was supposed to come to Louisville exactly. Oh yeah,
do that story also? Yeah, no, he did not know
that story.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Okay, So basically, real quick, the story is he he
had three plane tickets. He came to New York. It
was freezing. Saint John's was one of them. He walked
outside and he's like, there's no way I'm going to
play here. And he had two other tickets, one of
them to Louisville from Coach Crumb and one to Houston.
And he asked somebody which place was warmer the.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Bag Yes, the bagman in la at LaGuardia. He asked
which one was the warmst That's correct, that is correct.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Can you imagine if he would have came Louisville? Can
you imagine you because.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
That would have been No, I really can't.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
That would have been your last maybe your last year
or your last two years. Possibly.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Yes, yes, we would have gotten. I would have gotten
one year with him, for sure. I know the eighty
two season. I thought he was a sophomore in eighty two.
Maybe he was a freshman. But he was there with
Clyde Rerexler in the final with him.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Oh my gosh, we did.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Not know that story.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Oh yeah, he didn't he That's all I think about,
is man. We just messed out on the King. You know,
Cam and Rex chat but those two they got away.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
That got away, we know, and I had rex on.
Rex is supposed to be a cardinal. Everyone knows that.
I love King Rex. I'm telling you that. Boy, you know, Anthony,
greg is funny you said King Rex because Anthony and
I were talking about People do not know this story.
They hear about Michael Jordan killing everybody, and they know
that le Bradford Smith did get thirty on him. In
the next night, Mike got him back. But people don't
(15:59):
know the story. Anthony, tell them. We were talking about
Rex Chapman. Rex Chapman wore Michael Jordan out and talked
so much stuff to him. Tell him, Anthony, we're talking
about it about three or four days ago.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Yeah, it did know a clip. I get clips that
pop up of all time from like old games back
in the day, from confrontations what happened, But it was
a clip of Rex Chapman that popped up, and it
was pretty much talking to him, talking to MJ, saying
that Michael Jordan couldn't guard him at all and he
doesn't know why he's talking to him. And Rex Chapman
scored forty on MJ to the point MJ was getting
cooked so bad that he had a switch with him
and Steve Carr had Steve Kerr had to guard Rex
(16:31):
Chapman for the rest of the game. And I was like,
and it sounds crazy, I heard of Rex Chapman, but
for some reason, I don't know why, I don't remember
that story, but I saw for the first time and
he was killing him.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
That that guy you know, there's there's there's there's crazy stories,
you know, not league stories, but you know pickup game
stories that are just legendary. You know. I know when
I was growing up, I went to basketball camp with
Rex don Well from Kentucky, and uh I remember at
(17:02):
night in the dorm, him and his buddy used to
bet these guys that Rex couldn't jump over cars, and
they would go out in the parking lot and pick
the longest car and Rex would just jump over the
top of it for a hundred bucks. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Anthony, he's just he was just white was Oh god,
he was. He was the Anthony this state.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Of stocked me that he went to because he just
loved Gloisville. You know, he'd love every part of the
history and and you know the Donks and just everything
and it just you know, if if he would have came,
that's two we missed out on. Elijah and next Chapman
we have, we'd have a couple more championships.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
I do believe, no question, no question. But I love Rex.
Great guy. Had him on oh two years ago, not
this year's a SEC tournament. Last years when Washington at
in Washington, d C. In the arena, I had him on,
he had put his book out and we candidly spoke,
and you know, Rex is good people. I just want
you to know that he's really a good guy. So
let's get to it. Great home boy. It's the Master's
(18:15):
Week it starts tomorrow and all the things that go
on with the Masters. I just want to throw out too,
what got you into golf? I know you were a player.
You told me about your dad. What got you to
coaching golf before we get into the Masters? And what's
going to go on there and transpire this weekend?
Speaker 3 (18:32):
You know how it started in golf? Actually, Jerry was
Coach Crown believed it or not, I was. I was.
I was playing baseball at the time. You know, I
played eight years of professional baseball and I would come
home in the fall and Coach Crown would give me this,
you know, pretty easy job at the University of Louisville,
where I'd just ad to check classes and hang out.
(18:53):
And one of Coach Crumb's best friends was was a
PGA pro named Gene Sullivan.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
No, he's put a club in my hand for the
first time. Jean Seller put a club in my hand
for the first time.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yes, So Anyway, they were starting to driving range here
at that time. It was out in Jay Town and
they needed a pro to teach, so and I was
already kind of getting into the golf business. So uh,
you know, Denny recommended me to Gene. And you know
that was thirty something years ago and I've been teaching
ever since. So pretty cool deal.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Yes, yeah, a really good deal. Gene was a great person,
I mean great family. Yes see that was we're talking
about Anthony works a town in country and Billy Hayes's
dad would be with Jeane Sullivan and Coach Crumb all
the time. Those were the three. Oh, those are the
three Musketeers. So yes, now you've been doing this a
long time. You are one of the best coaches period.
(19:47):
I've had numerous coaches, and you're really, really good. You
simplify the game of golf, which is important because the
game of golf is complicated. It can just drive your
mind crazy if you have all the thought processes of
a golf swing. But you do a great job of
simplifying that aspect to making it a very simple thought
process so that people can improve. But let's just move
(20:07):
into this magnolia lane driving down in and if you
don't know, driving down Magnol'are Lane into Augusta, Nashville, I've
never had the opportunity to do that. You have tell
me about that.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, Jerry is just unbelievable. Just over a year ago, uh,
a student of mine, David Novak, invited me down there.
He's a member obviously one of our one of our
owners of Valhalla here in Bousll, And we went down
for two days and stayed stayed on site, which is
really a treat to stay there, you know, it's a
little bit different than just getting to play there, and
(20:42):
uh man, it was just it was just incredible. I
got two days of it. We played thirty six holes
each day, we played the par three a couple of times.
I mean, it was just it's just there's no place
like and it's it's pretty hard to explain to people
just how you know. I know, I know, even if
you've been there to the tournament, it's amazing. But to
get there, to go there and play, I mean, it's
(21:03):
almost like you're you know, you're in You're definitely in
God's country, There's no question about it.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Yes, the mystique of the Masters is crazy. Let's talk.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
I had a cat there, had the same caddy for
a couple of days, and you know, I told him
when we started, I said, hey, just tell me everything
you know, don't I want to know all the secrets.
And you know, so you know, there's just so many things.
You know, we were there for two days. I never
saw the first bird. There's no animals, there's no birds.
I don't know how they do that.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
And nobody tell them about piping in the sound. I'm
glad because you always hear the birds chirping.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
They tell them that, yes, or who who's ever covering
the tournament? Definitely? And pipes in you know, the birds sounds.
You don't see the first insect down there, and you know,
no one really knows how they do it. But you know,
there's just all kinds of things like that, like the
ponds and the water. There have this black dye that's
(22:06):
like the most beautiful black you've ever seen. You know,
the sand is not fan. The sand is quartz, which
which quartz is about it's about twenty thousand dollars a ton,
so and you can imagine how many sand drafts they
have there. Yeah, a patron tried to steal some it
was probably about ten years ago and too much straight
(22:28):
to jail for that. But you know, it's just it's
just television doesn't really do it much justice. It's probably
it's the it's for sure the hilliest golf course I've
ever played. You know, we walked thirty six dolls for
two days and I got home and I was sore
for a week. I mean, it's it's a very very
difficult golf course to walk. It's so many hills, and
(22:51):
you know, the television just doesn't you know, you just
can't see that on television. And the greens there just
you know, it's there, just almost impossible. I would say
a fifteen handicapper there playing from the teeth that they
play from and the tournament would probably shoot one hundred
and thirty there. It's so difficult, I mean, people so
(23:15):
diff not real difficult, Jerry. You know the layout, you know,
you get up there on the first tee and it's
you know, it's it's one hundred yards wide. I mean,
if there's no you know, and even if you hit
in the trees, you still got a shot, but it's
up around the greens. It's just if you don't know
those greens there. There are several holes where the caddy
(23:37):
instructed me to try to miss the greens in a
certain area versus hit the green in the wrong area
because you're definitely going to forputt if you hit it.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
So no where to miss.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
A little bit of a different game. I mean, I
it's honestly, it's a little bit different. I mean I
didn't play particularly well there because I was just so
you know, my head was on a swivel in terms
of just looking at everything and remembering every shot you
know that you know on television, so you know, it's
just just just amazing. The whole experience was amazing. No
(24:15):
menus there. If you stay there and eat, there's no menus.
You just tell them what you want.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
You know.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I asked my back, I said, I said, what if
they don't have it? He said, they don't have it,
you know, I mean, what do you want to have it?
And if they don't have it to get it?
Speaker 1 (24:30):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
There's the level of service there.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
I'm surprised funeral and that was the first of course
I knew eat him to.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Mm hmm, are you there, Jerry right, Yes, sir there.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Yes, yeah, we lost you for a second.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Yes again, Jerry's a media center there. Can you hear me?
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Yes? Oh we are great?
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Yes about now, Jerry? Can you hear me?
Speaker 1 (25:09):
I hear you? Do they not hear me? Rick? Rick?
Talk to him? They don't.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
I can hear. I can hear both of you.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
All. Okay, great, So here you find great.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Jar the media center there. You know, it's like a university.
You know, obviously we got the full tour of the place,
you know, and the media center there is like just
miles of buildings that are just the nicest, you know.
You know, most of these major tournaments, you know, meet
(25:40):
a lot of times, you know, like for instance, the
PGA Championship. You know, they bounced different places every year,
so they have to build build the big tents, you know,
like you had at Valhalla, but you know, since the tournaments, yeah,
it's just a permanent structure. And I mean it's like
it's just hard to even believe how nice even the
(26:01):
media center is there. You know, it's just amazing. You know,
the computers are built in and everything is you know,
high tech, and it's just it's just a really really
really cool place. It's the place is a lot bigger
than what I thought. You know, they owned several miles
of land around the place, which is you know, just
(26:23):
as not they keep it just as nice as a
golf course. I think there's only one. There's a small
house on the property, like a little three bedroom house
that kind of sticks out, which a lot of people
don't know, and that's that's that's not Augusta Nationals. That's
there's the grandparents of PGA tour players, Scott Brown lived there,
(26:43):
and they refuse to tell the place. So that's like
the only you know, which is kind of cool because
it's just a little bitty old house. It's just in
the middle of the you know, middle of the facility.
But you know, that's kind of a cool thing. You know,
when we when we got done playing, and every master's
winner donates one of their clubs from their bag to
(27:07):
the club and then the club displays it. So when
we got done playing, we got done with dinner one night,
we went around looking at all the different golf clubs,
which was kind of cool, you know. I mean, somebody
might donate a driver, their putter, or just depend on
the players what they wanted to give. I wasn't the
only exception that was Freddy Couples in nineteen ninety two
(27:30):
did not donate a club. So that's the only and
no one really knows why. So that's the only kind
of missing club there. But the A Ball experience was, Yeah,
there's so many weird things. There's one palm tree on
the golf course by the fourth hole that you don't
see at all on television, but when you're there, it's like,
(27:52):
you know, you see, you have all these pimes everywhere,
and then all of a sudden you walk up and
there's one palm tree. You know, nobody knows why, but
like like somebody, like like so many other things that
it gets to Jerry, no one really knows why. And
when you ask somebody that works there, you know that
their lips are sealed. In other words, you're not you're
(28:14):
not getting an answer, you know, And that's that's just
the way they like it. That one. One other interesting
fact that I was amazed at is, you know, Augustina
National is not expensive to be a member. You know,
you's it's it's just the lead, you know, but it's
not expensive. I asked a member, you know what it
(28:37):
costs as far as a because he took me and
two or three other pros, two other pros and you
know what it costs for us, you know, to actually
go in there and play, you know, as a guess.
And he said forty dollars. And I was like, you
(28:58):
got to be giving me. I've got friends they would
pay fifty thousand dollars to play here one time, and
it costs forty bucks to play, you know, but it's
it's not it's not that type of club. Like it's
not it's just eleite, but it's not, you know, I
put it this way, they don't care how much money
you have. You know, they're they're not interested, you know,
(29:18):
and that's that's pretty nice. If you look at their
concession menu, you know, it's a dollar fifty for a sandwich,
it's a you know, a dollar for a water. You know,
they just don't they don't gouge. They don't have to.
But I always thought that was pretty interesting because you
would think, you know, to go to I guess the
(29:38):
you know, it would be a fortune but for the member.
But it's really not, you know. And from what I'm.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Second break, you got to stay right there, Greg, I
gave you to my second break. I'm gonna come back
with you because I want you're going to slow down
and give everybody this information. I did not know about
the clubs that each champion donated a club or yeah,
the tree I had no idea about to find. I
knew about the pines. I didn't know nothing about the
palm tree. I have never heard that. So you come back.
(30:05):
We've got the Greg Graham of course, Different Strokes of
Golf Course, Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio. Sorry about that.
I had to take two breaks because I don't want
to have any more stoppages with Greg Graham. You know,
he's the golf pro Different Strokes of Golf Course at
River Road. You can find him at Greg Academy dot
(30:27):
PGA dot com, phone numbers five zero two eight two one,
fifteen sixteen. And throw it to you. Get Greg with
a real question about some of these players and this
year's Masters.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Yeah, I mean obviously being well, the big one that
is a big concern for a lot of people is
the ability to Justin Thomas to win again, and not
even winning the Masters, just winning another tournament in general. Obviously,
he has a one lascense of tween twenty two PGA
tournament on tour and obviously he's went through a lot
of different swing coaches. He has a new caddy this
(31:00):
week coming up because his caddy is injured, so he's
got a lot of different adversaries yet he's been going
through over the last couple of years. We just kind
of want to get your opinion on what you think
about it right now.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Yeah, I think he's on his way back, for sure.
He's been playing better as late. I don't know what
Vegas has him at this week, but I think he's
on the lift, maybe in the top ten to win.
But you know a lot of times when you go
through those swing changes and stuff, it takes a while.
You know, he's had some different things in his life
of having a child and getting married. But I expect
(31:32):
Justin to be back, you know, in the winner circle.
If not this week, I mean shortly, he has a
good chance. I know he loves that place as a
lot of them do, but that's one of his favorite
places to play. So I think you'll have a good week.
I don't have him on my list to win, but
it wouldn't surprise me if he finished in the top
five this week. Wouldn't surprise me at all.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Okay, second in twenty twenty one. Great, that's Justin Thomas JT.
My issue is this that melt down at the Valspar
that now concerns me. I thought he was going to
get the monkey off his back rolling again and that meltdown.
I don't know. I'm concerned his dad. All the swing
changes last year. Athin and I were there. I'm sure
(32:15):
you were there too. Great at the PGA when he
was out on the range, you should have seen all
the things that his dad and the cameras, the different angles.
Everyone else was hitting golf balls, but you could see
that Justin was going through technical changes. Right. I'm worried.
I'm being honest with you. I'm concerned with JT.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
I don't think what you know. I think once he
wins one, Jerry, no matter what it is, you know,
I think it'll come back, and I think they'll come
and droves. But you're right, I mean, once it doesn't
happen for a while, you know, that can become a
mental issue. You see that with a lot of these guys.
I know Victor Hobwins went through the you know, probably
two or three years ago he was the best ball
(32:57):
striker in the world by far, and you know, he's
switching coaches and doing all this stuff, and and and
what you see is it takes these guys a lot
to get back, you know, and it often makes me wonder,
you know, why they search for better when it's already
that good, you know. And I know there's a guy
named Tiger Woods that did that a few times and
(33:18):
probably cuts himself several majors. You know.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Yeah, but I think Justin will be back. I think
at this point it's a little bit mental. But if
he if he gets, if he gets one under his belt,
I think I think two or three will follow right after.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Okay, let's go to my favorite. Does Rory get it done?
Does he finally get it done?
Speaker 3 (33:41):
He's gonna be closed. He's on my list. He's on
my list. I like I like Rory or I like Bryson.
Right now, I think he's in a really good spot. Yeah,
I really do. I really like him. I think he's
in a good place. Roy is probably swinging it better
(34:03):
then he swung it probably his entire career. So this
this might be the year. This might be the year
that he gets that that he gets that green jacket,
you know, and gets that monkey off his back.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Yes, I mean, but those.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Are my two picks. Roy, Roy and Dechambo are my
two picks.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
I think.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
You know, Scotty's obviously always there. Augusta's kind of a
golf course that you have to hit it both ways
off the tee. Yeah, Scotty just hits it. He just
hits it so straight that a lot of times, you know,
the golf course just doesn't make any difference. I mean,
he just hits it so straight. But these these other
guys will have to work the ball a little bit.
And you know, Roy is obviously swinging really good right now.
(34:46):
So he's probably my number one. D Chambeau number two,
and then Scotty number three.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
We're talking about that because you know, we've lost touch
with a lot of the great golfers because they went
to the Live Tour and you John Rahm that he's
going to be knocking on the door. He's really good. Sure,
there are a few guys that we've lost contact with that.
I think we got Phil Michelson, my man, he came
in going to the Champions dinner. He's swaggy. I like Field.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Jerry. You think about you think about Augusta. You know,
that's a golf course that a lot of these older
guys can win. I mean, look what Brent ben Crenshaw did,
Jack Nicholas one there in his fifties. You know it
because because it's one of those places where the course
knowledge is premium, you know. I mean most of these
(35:39):
places that these guys go, you know, they they know
the golf course so well. But Augusta is a little
bit different.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
You know.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
It's there's so many quirks there and places not to
hit it, and a lot of these older guys know
we're not to hit it. And let me tell you something,
Phil still gets it out there now. You know, he
hits it as far as as almost any of these
young guys. So he would be kind of my dark
horse for something special to happen. I mean, I think
it would be really cool if he wanted again in
(36:06):
his age. I guess he's what maybe fifty eight now,
you know, so that would be that would be or
I'm not sure how yeah, yeah, so that that would
be you know, that would be amazing.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
You know, Nicholas did Brian Harmon left yourself have a chance,
short hitter straight as can be, can put the lights
out of it? Does Brian Harmon have a shot?
Speaker 3 (36:29):
I think anybody that can put the lights out of
it has a shot, you know, because that's that's what
a guest is all about. I mean, the putting there
is just you know, it's just such a premium. I mean, yeah,
you've got to hit it pretty far, but you know,
he hits it so straight. You know, I think he's
I think he'd be in my top ten for sure.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
What are the three toughest holes on the course? Great,
the three toughest holes when we're watching tomorrow, What are
the three toughest holes on the course.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
I think for me, I think when you go you know, ten, eleven,
and course twelve is the short part three, and then
thirteen is the big you know, the famous short part five.
I think those four holes kind of kind of determined
kind of what happens, you know. I think I think
(37:22):
if you can get through those holes, you know, under par,
then you're doing real good. Those are also, of course
I'm a little proved those are my four favorite hosts
too when I've played it. So but you know, it's
all it's all about the back nine in Augusta. It's
like for instance, Jerry, we played thirty six holes there.
I don't remember. I don't remember any of the holes
(37:44):
on the front nine, maybe number one, because yeah, I
don't even remember them. I don't even remember playing them.
But I remember every shot I hit, you know, on
the back nine, because that's diffent true. You know, you
grow up in the back nine, and the Masters on Sunday,
it's it happens on the back nine, so you know,
(38:06):
you uh, that's just that's the whole golf course is
the back nine. So we'll see that.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
A lot of the tightest shoot is that the shot
coming out.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
It's television kind of makes that, Jerry look so tight.
It's really not. It's tight, but it's not. It's not
as tight as it looks. Another interesting fact Jerry about
Augusta is there's only you know, a lot of these
golf courses now have four or five tea boxes, you know,
so that you can, you know, play to your level,
(38:40):
but Augusta have Yeah, Augusta doesn't have that. Augusta has
two te boxes. They have a member te box and
they have the back team and that member tea box.
For instance, on eighteen, if you play the member tea box,
there is no shoot. In other words, the member t
box is so far forward that you're past the shoot.
(39:02):
But then when you go to that back team, obviously,
the far as you go back that the tighter that gets.
But it's pretty interesting because the the the member tees
are only I'm sitting here looking at it on my scorecard.
The member tees are sixty three hundred yards, you know,
which is which is pretty short, you know, But the
(39:27):
the pro tea's are seventy six hundred you know, So
that's a huge difference, you know, like if.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
You I mean.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Shot, it's fifteen shots for your average golfer, you know,
when you go back that far. But it's pretty it's
I think it's pretty cool that they only have those
two sets of tea boxes. You know, there's no ladies
tea box, there's no junior tea box. You know, there's
no white teas. It's just those two teas. But man,
that place plays really really long. From the back teas
(40:00):
obviously it's seventy yards.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Greg, I appreciate you again. Everyone can find Greg Graham. Greg.
You know, I've got people I'm gonna make them pay
for your services in my golf out and Greg. That's
all I'm charging people, and then they're gonna have to
come up with some money. But I just Dreg Graham. Greg,
I appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Let's don't break up our team this year.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Now I won't. I'll keep you on.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Greg.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
I felt like Larry Bird last year, just some white
boy carrying a bunch of brothers on his back. I
don't want to feel like that did carry him.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
I've got you said that about the Bradford Smith carry him.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
I need Anthony.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
They're all back, they're all back. You've got him, Greg,
love you man. Thanks for your time. Eastwarts Radio. We'll
talk to you all tomorrow. Bye bye
