Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio, Tuesday, April twenty second,
twenty twenty five. Yes, it is the twenty second. A
beautiful day outside. I can't believe how quickly time is
passing this time. Next week we will have a live
show at Wagner's Restaurant right across the street from the

(00:24):
world renowned Churchill Downs, So make sure that you're there,
get your seats early. We're gonna have all the trainers again.
I'm going to meet with Lee Wagner this morning at
about nine thirty. Kyby Harrison's going to be there. A
few of the old guys we're gonna get together. But
Lee says that he's trying to get Bob Badford to
come to this year's show. Of course, you always know

(00:44):
that we've got one of a kid. We've got the
Dale Romans winning this horse trainer and Churchill Down's history
always there like we always do. Got Sean Foley, Greg
Foley excuse me, always comes. We've got Mark Johnson, one
of the best track men in the country, will definitely
be there. We've got mister mcpete, winner of the Oaks

(01:07):
and Derby last year, who went to the PGA with me.
Will stick his head in, so we'll have our regular game,
but we just want to make sure Bob Badford may
be in the group. So I just wanted people to
know that. So Anthony, welcome to the show. How are
you so.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I'm doing fantastic this morning. How you feeling?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Then? I'm all good? So anyway, let me get the
call letters out.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
This is Eve Sports Radio phone numbers five zero two,
five seven, one, seventy nine hundred. This is Sports Talk
seven ninety KRD. We've got Shannon behind the glass. We
do want callers today. We've got a lot of little
different questions. But first and foremost, Anthony, before I go
into a new contest, which we always do around Churchill

(01:51):
Downs and in the race the Kentucky Derby, I've got
to take care of business from the final four. So
I was looking at my information and Rick Shannon was
on vacation, so Rick was my producer. And Rick has
sent me the information for Michael Finwick, Jay Palmer, Karen Kelly,

(02:16):
Todd Weber and Todd Lassayer. I think that I didn't
pay Kelly all her money, So Kelly, I know you're listening.
I was looking at my records. I think I owe
you thirty seven dollars. I do believe. Checking my records,
I'm going to check everything today. But that is only
five names. I have got seven winners because we had

(02:39):
some ties and I had to break it up into
twelve fifty. So I've got Lasaer Kelly, Oliver Palmer on
the men's side. I've got Brooks, Weber and Finwick on
the women's side. If you have not received your check,
I just wanted to make sure that I have a
few people that have not collected their money. But I've

(03:02):
got to check it and make sure that I paid
you the correct amount. I may have short at you,
so I'm going to check it out and we'll talk
about it more tomorrow. But I wanted people to know
that that I have written five or six of the checks.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Four have been cashed.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
I have two that have not, and I need to
write one to a gentleman, so I'll make sure I
get that out. But I do not have your address,
so please, I will do my homework and I'll give
everybody the exact amounts tomorrow. So anyway, Andy, that's that
part of the business first and foremost. Secondly, we've got
a huge, huge, interview with Coach Beard I did last night.

(03:41):
He wanted to speak about name, image and likeness and
where the college game was going. And I have him
on tape because we know he's in Phoenix. And of course, guys,
he's not going to jump up at four or five
in the morning and get ready.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
For the show.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
He's just too old for that. So I've got a
tape of Coach Beard that we're going to listen to
the second portion of the second segment of the show.
So I want to throw it to you, Anthony at seventeen,
so that we can get out all the national news.
We've got all kinds of things going on. Hockey, professional basketball, guys.
I am watching the tournament. The playoffs are really good.

(04:15):
They do the NBA days in the playoffs. Regular season
is really a turnoff, but during the playoffs you see
the emotion. You see the officials don't take as much garbage.
It's a physical game and you have to win those games.
That's all there is to it. There's nothing given to
you in the NBA playoffs. And he hit us with
some of the national news.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, of course, obviously the first thing you want to
get into hockey. We've been we've been sliding on lately,
haven't got much into it, but they are in the
playoffs as well too. The Capitols did beat Canadians last
night three to two. Also Becchin, surprisingly, as I heard
the news, got his first overtime goal win in playoff
history to be the all time leading. Surprise, it was

(04:59):
not one, but this is the first one ever. You know,
it's the first time for everything at this point, you know, yes,
it happens, but it's.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
A great win for them.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
They're taking a one oh series lead over the Canadians.
The Jet to beat the Blues as well last night
two to one. They are taking a two lead over
on the Blues. The Stars did beat the Avalanche in
overtime last night, so they tied that series up one
to one. And then we had the La Kings beat
the Oilers last night six to five, and Eli's taken
a one o lead in that game as well. Obviously.

(05:27):
You know, the big thing we love to talk about is,
you know, our NBA playoffs. You know, one of us
playing in the NBA the other one did not. But
that doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
It doesn't matter. Everybody had dreams, you know what. It's okay, everyone.
It's not for everybody. I mean, that's all they're suit.
You know, everybody achieves whatever they achieve, and playing an
NBA doesn't mean anything. I'm being honest with you, I'm
disappointed in some of my alumna alumni in the NBA.
With me, I'm I'm really disappointed in some of their

(05:57):
attitudes and how they approached the game and the nature
of their businesses after they get out of basketball. There
are a lot that you know, we have spoke about
in our Players Association meetings. I finally joined that two
years ago and I've been participating more. Scooter McCrae pushed
me to do that. In Rodney and I have and
I've had dialogue. I've been going to the meetings in

(06:18):
Chicago and just expressing some of my concerns that need
to be hurt and a lot of people were thinking
the same way. So anyway, I'm going to try to
get more involved with it. But and I tell everybody,
do not evaluate yourself. If you played professional sports means nothing,
absolutely nothing, just a lot of fun. But it doesn't
mean anything as for were you successful or not.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
You were very.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Successful with what you did, so anyway, but I do
like watching the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
I do, I really do.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
I get to watch Kawhi Leonard play some he never
plays in the regular season, and they shouldn't let him
play in the playoffs, Anthony, he never plays in the
regular season. People have no idea he's the healthiest guy
in the NBA right now. I mean, that's just that's
unfair when you've got players that have been grinding for
eighty two games. But anyway, that's for a different show.
Go ahead, Anthy, what's going on in the NBA playoffs?

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, obviously watched another barnburner last night. The Pistons did
beat the Knicks one hundred and ninety four, they always
coughed up another lead again, which I would have been
kind I would have been kind of mad at the
Pistons and be honest, because overall, I think cl wise,
I think Knicks are a more complete team. But some
reason I like the Pistons. I think that's it's gotta
be one of the harder games in the East for

(07:31):
a three seed to play the six seeds. You're playing
a young team like the Pistons because they're up and coming.
They got a lot of pieces in the offseason. They
did well selecting in the draft, even their coaching staff,
and has gotten a lot better from top to bottles.
Though it's not a cake walk in the park league
team like they used to be anymore. And obviously your
first round game, when you lose one at home, that's
always tough going on the road on a one to

(07:52):
one time series, especially in a place like Detroit. You
could go there and easily lose those two games back
to back and be down three to one coming back home,
or you can go out there, you could tie it up,
you can win both games. But we know how crucial
road games are in any sport, especially in the playoffs.
It doesn't matter if it's football, hockey, MLB, NBA, soccer,

(08:13):
whatever the case may be. Road games are difficult for
those who played sports, and they know that it's just
not the same. The atmosphere is different. The traveling plays
a factory into a well, flying back and forth into
Detroit to New York. Same thing even for La and
the Clippers. The Clippers won last night one on five,
one or two, redeeming themselves too as well. Nuggets sneak
them in the first game. But you did say something

(08:34):
about jokers looked a little frustrated last night.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
The first time in a long time I think I've
seen Getty. Yes, yes, Joker was out of character. He
was upset with his teammates. I mean, second quarter, you
could see him telling them slow down. They were taking
bad shots, playing too fast. It was truly the first
time I'd ever seen Nikola out of character. He was
frustrated and then showed it on the floor.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
I mean he was.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
He was truly coaching out there. He wanted to get
everybody's attention. There's gonna be a lot of changes with
that Denver program. There's no question about it. Things are
not going properly. They're just not And they asked Joka
to do too much. Anthony, he's the point, center, forward,
point guard. They run the offense through him. He has
to do everything. They have seven turnovers last night, but

(09:23):
they have him doing too much, I mean, really do
and that Piston roster, Anthony, they may have one of
the better benches in the NBA with Beasley and Schroeder
coming off the bench. They've got players I do like
Toby Harris when he's making shots hardaway mate, no shots
last night, and they still want He was zero for
eight and they still want and Tim Hardaway can't shoot

(09:44):
the ball. So Kenningham was a very good pick Anthony
and is developing into a very good pro basketball player.
Physical basketball player, That's why I like him. He does
not shot with he wants to put a number in
the basket. He's got a big body, big body.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
They showed a statistic aside side by side statistic of
him and SGA, which is Shake Gils just Alexander and
his numbers were better this year, which is funny because
obviously SGA is a front runner win the m v P.
But K's cunning Ham's numbers and percentages were better this
year than Shake Gills. Alexander on a worst team, well yes,

(10:23):
I mean, and I do.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
You have to look, they just haven't seen him.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
To see Anthony, nobody gave Detroit any respect at all
until they all star breaking. It's just being on a
bad team. But people are gonna watch you more now,
trust me, they're gonna watch him. He's a quality player.
I still go with SGA as m VP. I just
do that he's played well. Their team has played so well.
And again, his leadership skills Anthony have been impeccable for

(10:51):
a young kid.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Hardly ever see him get frustrated in the game.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
When they played poorly during the season, they would interview him,
he would say, we'll bounce back the next game. Never
threw teammates under the bus. I never saw him outly
frustrated at his teammates. I just like what he brings.
Okay See, well, and they won bout fifty. I mean, okay,
c is good. They're going to defend you. And that's
the one strength that I give s g A over

(11:16):
Cade is that Anthony he will guard you. He they
their entire team. Okay See, they will guard you. I mean,
they destroyed Memphis, and I'm glad. I don't like Memphis.
It is I'm upset with the league. They have not
done the Craig thing, and I hope that. Honestly, I
want okay See to destroy Memphis, even though we'll see

(11:36):
what Memphis has after getting beat by fifty, Anthony, they
should put their best foot for it.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
In this next game.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
I can't that's gonna be a good game.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
But Anthony bounce back tonight.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
No, they don't win, but they play better. No, they
do not beat okay See, they don't. They may be
able to win a game at home against okay See.
But no, I'm just I do believe they have players
that can guard John Moran, not one, not two, but
three Anthony. That's why I think they have no chance
when they switch. Okayse has three players that can sit down,

(12:15):
drop their button guard him, and I think when he
can't create for others on that team, Memphis is very average. Now,
when you can't guard Moran, which a lot of teams can't,
then he improves his teammates. But if you can sit
down and stay in front of him, Memphis team is
not good enough to beat you. But that's all. So
no okay See wins that series for to one. My opinion,

(12:39):
for to one, Memphis will squeak out a win at home.
But now they lose again tonight. No question who else
we got. We had some good games tonight. I mean,
we don't talk about the NBA, but there's some good
games and you've got grown men that are playing hard.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Guys. Just turn it on.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
If you're not an NBA fan, turn on the games
because they're playing now. You're gonna see quality games. You're
gonna see people diving on floors, You're gonna see people
getting after it. They just the playoffs bring out the
best in the NBA, they really do. So now I'm
just okay, see, for one my opinion, what do you think.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
I think it's a four ro oh sweep. I'm gonna
be honest. I just I've watched the Grillies all year.
I mean, they're they've been. They were an exciting team
to watch throughout games. But I think when it really
comes down to the nitty gritty certain plays to win,
defensive stops, coaching execution, I just don't think they have
really enough pieces to get it done. Even I say,

(13:38):
for one game, I really don't. I still see a sweep, honestly,
because Thunder will probably get them the night by a lot.
At home, I think they'll go back on the road.
When they go home, they'll have a little bit more flair,
a little bit more to nasty because they're gonna be
closer to elimination game. So I do do I think
Game three and four will be a lot closer. Yes,
but I still don't think they'll pull it out. I
just don't know if they have the finishing ability in
the crunch time outside of John Morant, and we saw

(14:00):
how they guarded him last game. They're gonna double job
every good point guard in the NBA Finals. When they
attack the rim, they get doubled. Jalen Brentson gets doubled,
Kate Cunningham, They double Steph Curry. I just for him
to be like, he's gonna go out there and do
it on his own. He doesn't have enough supporting cast
to be out there to help him compensate and put
enough scoring and enough defensive stops. I mean he's got

(14:21):
Desmond Bane, got a couple of younger guys, you know.
But I'm just not a huge fan of the Grizzlies. Yes,
he got eliminated. He got eliminated the first game by
hardin sign Hard and Sun and killed.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
I'm sorry he really did what he He's.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Young, but he's gonna be okay. Hartens is a good player. Andy,
he's an orthodox. People need to watch him. He's really Anthony.
He's good at what he does. He just looks weird
doing it, but he can play. And I mean Mark,
he's smart as a quality defender. But they just don't
have enough Jackson Jackson on the team. Oh yeah, no,
he's the That's how key Jaron has to play for

(15:02):
Memphis to have eight chance, and he did not play
at all.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
I do expect him to play a little better.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
So anyway, but we do have NBA games and I
want people to watch them. Of course the Lakers, and
we're gonna get a chance to watch that fiasco. I
mean Lebron, James Anthony. He is a top five player ever,
he's the leading scorer in the NBA because he's played
a long time and longevity does mean something.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
It does. But Anthony.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
As a form NBA player and coach, not being biased
to have nothing against him quality father, other than forcing
his son on the team. There's nothing outside of basketball
that he's done incorrectly.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Nothing.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
He's donated a lot of money, He's done a lot
of great things. But for the game, I asked you
all the other day and we were talking about we
would go with I think George men have said he
would take Lebron over Steph Anthony. I'm taking Steph for
the way he's represented himself, how he plays the game.

(16:07):
Every team tries to play Curry physically, Every team tries
to beat him up Anthony, because he's got a regular body,
just like you do, just like I do. They try
to get physical with him. You don't see him get
out of character very often. You see him play. You
don't see him whinding him very often at refs every
now and then. He's been in the league sixteen seventeen years.
There's been frustration points. But Anthony he plays, he goes

(16:32):
to the game, he competes, he plays, and he's got
as many championships as Lebron in a short period of time. Honestly,
he's the best shooter ever to play in the NBA.
And I'd rather watch Steph Curry play any day of
the week than Lebron James.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
That's just the truth.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
And I don't watch the NBA into the playoffs and
I like to watch all the playoff games.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
I'd rather watch Steff. That's just all there's to it.
So I don't know. I'm gonna watch Lebron again.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Hopefully we can see if they'll muster up, see if
he'll run down the floor when he doesn't get a call.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
I mean that walk.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
And he just needs to retire if he's not gonna
play the playoff games the right way.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Lebron needs to retire.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Bottom line regular season Okay, no one, there's so much
whining in the league, it's a bunch of babies. But
in the playoffs, Anthony, you're gonna see people getting After
the Detroit New York series, you see bodies banging, you
see people playing.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
It's a physical game.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
If Lebron don't want to get physical and wants to
cry all the time, then I just have nothing for him.
I just don't so anyway anywhere at seven twenty four,
we want to get to break. When we come back,
I'm gonna preface what we're gonna talk about with Coach Beard,
and we're gonna hear a clip from Coach afrec Butcher
Beard after the break.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio seven twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Got Anthony on the other line, shining behind the glass,
just talking a little bit about the NBA and what's
going on and the games we're gonna watch today.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
But Coach Beard called me yesterday.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
And said that he wanted to to get some things
off his chest, and we started speaking about a few
of the things that had transpired in college football and basketball.
So of course we've all been talking about the debacle
with Nico Iamavalava. We just we've spoke about it so

(18:22):
many times. I thought that Tennessee handled it in correctly.
I thought they should have just told the young man
when the disagreement happened to get into the transfer portal.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
I found out over the weekend.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
For a fact, the same thing that was transpiring with
Chad Baker Zario from Auburn who ended up transferring to Florida.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
The same thing was going on.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
We didn't see the mispractices, which was completely ridiculous by Nico.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Should not have done that, should not have been advised
to do that.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
But that a player was asking for more money than
the school wanted to pay.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
I hate that. I have to say that I've got
to give.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Auburn credit and pearl because he handled it the way
that I thought things like this should have been handled.
He told the young man in private, they weren't going
to pay X. There is a market, this is your value.
We would love to have you on our team. They
wanted him back, but we're not going to pay you that.
So the young man ended up going to Florida. I

(19:19):
don't know what he was paid at Florida. Again, I
don't know. I know he was asking for three million dollars.
I do know that, okay, but I do not know
what Florida paid. I do not know what Auburn offered.
I just know that the young man was offering, was
asking for three million dollars, and Auburn said no and
told him to get into the.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Transfer portal without all the hoop law.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Now we know that did not happen at Tennessee, and
we know the young man brought the spotlight to himself
by missing practices. I started to read and research it.
He did bring some of the irony to himself. But
Coach Beard wanted to speak a little bit about the
state of the game. So you're going to get to
hear Coach Beard n I discuss the name engagine likeness.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
So Shannon played force.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Please Sports Radio, You're going to take a few minutes
with you to talk about what's going on in college analytics.
And the first thing, of course, is the name engagine
likeness to some of the college football players moving around,
shuffling from team to team and the amount of money
that allegedly players are being paid.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
What's your opinion, Jerry, I said to you when this
got started that I was against it, but now I'm
for it. I think that it's good that the players
are getting paid and because they're the ones who are
doing all the work for the colleges and for the

(20:44):
n T two A. Now, you know, I also thought
that they should have had parameters on how much they
would pay kids. And this was the reason why we have,
you know, the situation we have in college football right
now because there's no parameters on how you you know,
how much you can pay somebody. Remember we talked about,

(21:08):
you know, five stars should make X amount of dollars,
four stars, you know, three stars, two stars, and star
and a half walk on whatever. They would be so
much better off if they had done that. So you know,
how they're gonna how they're going to straighten it out,
remains to be seen.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
You let, States supposed to spend over twenty million dollars
twenty to his high three million dollars on championship football team.
And this is what the future looks like from grown
up to compete or even more.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Or even more or even more, Jerry, I'm telling you, Yeah, Well,
we know that the Ohio State, you know, spent that
kind of money, you know, to get get that roster
the way that they got it, and they got you know,
they got the championship for it, so other schools are
gonna follow suit, you know, monkey see monkey do. So

(22:04):
I don't know how they is. C two A takes
control of it and tones it down where it's almost
equal because the teams with money will always be good
year in and year out. The teams that don't have
a lot of money now are not even gonna be
able to compete because they can't get in that money gain.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
He hasn't been the fact for all the time, even
though we didn't know the payments were going on. Allegedly
they were going on underneath the table the Power five
schools at Ohio States and I'm not indicating Moules States
of Michigan through all the issues that they've had. We've
had schools that have NCAA real violations, and most of
the time they're some of the better teams. And it's

(22:52):
been going on for quite a while. The big money wins.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it has been.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
It has gone on forever. Okay, but the money, but
the money wasn't as great as it is now. See
now with no it's almost like a salary cap right
in you know, in basketball and in football. You know,
you could kind of tone it down with a salary cap.

(23:20):
There's no salary cap. And you know in the n
C two A So again, the people with money, they're
gonna always be good, Jerry, They're gonna be really, really good.
And what they're doing is trying to buy championships, which
is the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
In the way in the world, which I mean, that's
the way of the world. Money rules. Now here's the question.
Do you think some of the mint level and low
level division ones that they're robbing and poaching their players,
You think that they should get some buyouts, just like
coaches buyouts. They have to pay for these players are
transferring leaving.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
If the rules are the way they are, they should
because what they're doing is they are what they're taking
the players that the big time guys you know, you
know they.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Say I don't know if they can play or not.
Then they developed them and then they come in and
they take those kids away from them because they have money,
but they don't want to pay for for those mid
levels and lower level schools for the development that they
that they've done. So I blame the n C two
for all of it. They saw this coming, but they

(24:37):
they stayed greedy. They wanted all the money and they
only wanted to give it to a few. Now they
have to give it to the kids, and the kids
will just chasing money. You know, they're what one school
one year and you know they jump in their transfer
a portal and somebody says, I'll give you five cents more,
I'll see you later.

Speaker 5 (24:57):
Well, coach, I mean that's a fact, But that sounds
like colleg peticians to me, just being honest with you.
Let's just be honest, kid.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Oh, he's just trying to.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Benefit from their services, So like politicians to me. Now
that we've talked about our house state and what they've paid,
what teams are gonna have to do to compete? And
we've seen the movements football players? Coach Beard, you had
one player played in the fall at university, he transferred
in December, had to fall break and went to another school,

(25:28):
had practiced with springball with another team, and then transferred
after a springball coach to a third university in three years.
What are they gonna have to do to slow that down?

Speaker 4 (25:41):
Did anybody tell you why he was transferring like that?
Is because somebody promised him money. He didn't get it,
and he left. This is not hard or this is
not hard. You know, it really isn't hard, and somehow
another like, there's got to be some parameters on it,

(26:03):
and they got to go ahead and figure out how
they can cap the money. If they can't cap the money,
you're going to get this all the time. You'll get
this forever. You don't want to call it.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
They don't want to. They don't, that's why. But they
should be employees, and we should see contracts, and there
should be time frames at least two years on the contracts.
When will the university stop this nonsense with student athlete
and call them employees if like they do their coaches
and they have their directors and their medical staff and
everyone else.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
I don't know. I wish that could I wish that
could have even answer that. I don't know that. They
don't want to pay them their benefit Okay, they don't
want to give them their benefits. They know. All they
want them to do is go out and play and
make me a lot of money. And I would love
you for that. And you go people, they tell you
go pro and make your money, right, crazy, crazy, crazy crazy.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
That's true. It's been a tough deal. For players for
over sixty years and now in the last three years,
it is a wild wild West. It seems to be
a little out of control. Last question on the football aspect,
what did you think of the college football playoffs and
did you like the way that they seed the teams?
There are a few teams. Alabama did not get in.

(27:28):
I thought they should have two acc teams got in.
I didn't think that should have happened. Indiana, luck of
the schedule, didn't play any one and got in. How
do they correct that?

Speaker 4 (27:43):
Football wise, the eye tesests should be the thing that
they should look at. Okay, I mean it's not like
they're not seeing you know, they're looking at teams develop
as the year goes along and the one that you
know kind of get left behind. Uh, mainly because I

(28:06):
guess TV has a lot to do with it in
popularity and ratings. You know, we're running in the same
situation when we start talking about, you know, the field
for the final four. You know, you have a lot
of teams that should get in that don't get in.
And and the only reason why is it because they're

(28:29):
not what with big time with the Power five conferences,
if they were with the Power five conferences, you know,
you have more of a chance getting in than if
you're you know, mid major, earn a small conference. So
I think the eye tests should be more important than
running than running numbers, because you know, analytics have got

(28:53):
a lot to do with this.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Thank you should appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, that was Coach Beard and some of his comments
again when he's talking about Nico Iamava Lava discussing how
the things transpired. He's talking about smaller schools making runs
at it, and I just wanted to make sure he
understood that, yes, we've had Cinderella runs, but no one
has won any If you go and look at the

(29:22):
history of football and basketball, the major powers have always
won these things the larger schools. He was talking about
the eye test, and my only question to that was
should have the SEC received more football teams in the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (29:38):
I believe so I believe the eye.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Test that that was the better league and more teams
should have had opportunities to compete for a championship. With
the final basketball aspect, I think that the SEC was
treated more than fairly with the amount of teams that
they were received in the NCAA tournament, and they played
very well end up winning the championship. So I still
do believe that strong conferences should benefit come playoff time,

(30:03):
and that did not happen in college football. So let's
get to break. It's already seven forty two. Let's run
two breaks, Shannon. When we come back, we've got to
talk about this NFL and just just does your.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Door Sanders, Anthony drop out of the NFL first round?
Eves Sports Radio, We'll talk to you in a minute.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
About that. Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio, Anthony. This
NFL draft is as crazy as I've ever seen with
Shador Sanders. Your opinion, does the young man get drafted
in the first three picks? Cam Ward's going to go
to the Titans. That's pretty much solidified. They're looking for
a replacement for Will Levis, former University of Kentucky quarterback.

(30:47):
You've got Cleveland Browns and then you've got the New
York Giants. Is there any way that Shad Door Sanders
goes into the top three or does he even go
in the first round.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
I mean, I've looked at a lot of the mock
drafts in a lot of them had projected going in
the top three. A lot of them had him going
to second. Obtually they have good cam Ward going number
one to the Tennessee Titans, and they had Door Sanders
going number two to the Browns and replacing the Deshaun
Watson who's tour that Achilles he's kind of been on.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
You know.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
They were kind of the high risk, high reward on him,
but he didn't really pull through that much for him.
I still think he's the first round pick. I don't
like Shador. I think people maybe not like the publicity
and the hype that he got around himself when he
was at Colorado playing for his dad. It was just
more of a it felt more of like a social
media like Netflix type of team more than you know,
a team that was really trying to go out there

(31:35):
and be a contender. But they had good talented players
on that roster. I will not take that away from Colorado.
Did they shoot for the stars and maybe landed on
the moon?

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Yeah? I think so.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
I mean they didn't have the greatest record when they
were there at their two years of Colorado, but they
still went there and made a huge improvement. One to
the program alone, Jude. They made names and they had
statistic numbers to back it up. You know, Travis hunder
winning the defensive Player of the Year. Obviously, you know
probably well the best wide receiver, cornerback, duos from you know,

(32:05):
a both side of player football in a long summer.
And obviously he's projected probably to first you know, five
to ten, ten pick in the draft, and I think
Sador's in the same boat. He got a lot of
blasphemy about the little the pat that he did on
the ball that we talked about last week. I hope,
I pray to God, that's not the reason why that
he has a possibility of sliding out the entire first

(32:26):
round over that reason, because other than that, you can't
say any other reason why. He can't say that his
statistics weren't good. You can't say he didn't have a
good pocket presence. He didn say.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
He can't say he doesn't have a good he's got
and completions.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Since he's got good legs, he's mobile to pocket, he
can scramble out, he can get you a couple of
first downs using his mobility if he has to. So
if you're sitting off of just the point of you
just don't like him as a player, which I said
last week. But at that point you might just come
out and say you just don't like him, you just
don't want the hype, you don't want the media attention
around your team for that reason, then maybe it'll make
more sense. But if you're just gotta pick and pull

(33:00):
different things away from saying that he's not a first
round player, it's crazy because now you looked into a
couple of mock drafts, they got Jackson Dart stlit up
in the first round. Jackson Dart wasn't even a first
three or fourth rounder at this point. Now he went
from a third to fourth rounder, not even being talked about.
Now he's a possible first round pick. It's just the
the sliding that they do in the mock draft days

(33:22):
before the actual draft. I don't know if they just
do this as just a media buzz or they do
it just because because I'm not hating on Jackson Dart.
I think he's got a His physique as a quarterback
is good. He's about six four two twenty five two thirty.
He's got a good arm, good height, good vision. But
am I taking Jackson Dart over shad Or Sanders to
start my franchise behind no other than cam Ward. He's

(33:45):
the only other person. He's the only other person in
the draft. I would even say that has a real
contention to do that right.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
I'm I'm not in love with any of the quarterbacks
in this year's draft, not even cam Ward, but I
think he is a quality quarterback. I think teams are
stuck this year, Anthony, because they need franchise quarterbacks. But
they're just no franchise quarterbacks available. I'm talking about franchise
that where you're going to draft him and you're going
to know with chadur Anthony, here's the issue. Professionally, there

(34:14):
are a lot of teams that do not want the circus,
and it is a circus. It has been a circus.
Did he perform through that circus? He did at a
highly level, Yes he did. He was top five in
touchdowns last year, yards, completions, and completion ratio and he
had an eighty plus eighty two percent completion ratio with

(34:35):
a clean pocket when he wasn't pressured. He had was
sacked ninety four times in two seasons. Well, again, put
that a lot on Dion because he threw the ball
extremely too much. You have to have a running game,
you have to have both, but he did improve against
blitzes from his first year at Colorado to his second.
The problem is this, Anthony, I don't think he's a superstar.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Now.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
No one said the same thing when we're talking about
Brady and the guys. But I just don't see him
as a Manning coming in, Andrew Luck coming in, I
just don't, and Alan at Buffalo, I just don't. I
told people Lamar Jackson was a starting quarterback in the
NFL right away and teams could win with them.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Winning in the NFL is the hardest thing in the
world to do.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
It's the hardest sport, Anthony, because it is a physical
collision every play. You cannot avoid contact. That's why it's
the toughest word to play. And grown men are playing
that sport. Every game means something. It's not the NBA.
We just said it. I want people to understand. I
love the NBA playoffs because they're playing now regular season guys.

(35:42):
They go through the motion, that's all there is to it.
In the NFL, there's no such thing. Every play is
the super Bowl and people are hitting every down. That's
why I'm not in love with any of the quarterbacks.
And this year's draft, and I think that's where they're stuck.
They're quality players at other positions, Anthony, that teams may
have to take. So they're bad franchises. And I've been

(36:04):
a part of both. Coach Beard will tell you we
were going to draft Wesley Person, Chuck Person's brother. Oh,
I want to say, the nineteenth or twentieth pick in
the draft. Well, what happens? Yenka Dahrey falls in the draft.
No one even knows who Yinka is. He's deceased now
and I'm not throwing dirt on him, but Yinka has died.

(36:27):
He went to George Washington. He was a six eleven
young African trying to play basketball. Well, the owners in
New Jersey and Will Let's reed deceased. Coach Beer will
tell you all made a rush decision at the end.
Let's take take Yanka. You always need size in the NBA.
This was when people wanted sinners, traditional sinners. We don't

(36:48):
draft draft Wesley Person. Coach Beard, myself, the coaching staff,
we're sitting in there going, guys, we've almost turned in
the name Wesley Person. We changed and sent in Yinka
dare Well. Everyone knows what happened there was the person
was a quality player. He could shoot the lights out
of the ball. Yinka never developed. Those things happen in

(37:10):
every league. You have bad management that will make rush
decisions that just happens. And I was in that draft
room sitting there going what just happened. We had Dwayne
Schintzes Butanod Benjamin on our roster. They couldn't play, and
we drafted Yenka dar Ray he couldn't play. So some
franchisers just aren't good, Anthony, no matter what we call

(37:32):
them pros. They've got general managers, they're supposedly experienced, but
some do not come together. In Charlotte, we had a
gentleman named Bob Bass Anthony who was deceased, who was
one of the best of managers ever in the game.
San Antonio Spurs' success was Bob Bass. Charlotte Hornet success
was Bob Bass. He found great players Eddie Robinson that

(37:55):
people never even heard of. You know, idiots that could
really play. Some organization are run correctly. I'm a pat
riley man, guys, I'm telling you, no matter what you
want to say about the Heat, they're run correctly. He
knows what he's doing so, we'll have to wait and
see if teams pass, We'll just have to wait and
see who selects your door. He will get a chance

(38:15):
to play. He's an NFL player, Anthony. He will get
a chance to play in the NFL. But we're gonna
have to wait and see. Tomorrow, we're gonna have Mark Clayton.
Mark Clayton's gonna tell us about what's going on in
this NFL draft and what teams are doing in their
draft rooms. Great job, shed it. Appreciate you. Eve Sports
Radio guys, got Willie. We'll be back tomorrow morning. Don't

(38:36):
forget next Tuesday. We'll be at Wagner's restaurant. Get there early.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Esports Radio, we're out.
