Speaker 1 (00:01):
You have to love the laugh. You have to April
twenty third, twenty twenty three, this is EVE Sports Radio
phone numbers five zero two five seven seventy nine hundred.
That's Sports Talk seven ninety KRD. We've got Shendon behind
the glass. We've got a busy day today. At seven fifteen,
(00:21):
we have doctor Brooks calling in talking about job openings
at the Jefferson County School System. I'm looking forward to that.
There are a lot of there are a lot of
job availability and the Jefferin County School System for multiple coaches.
So if you know of anyone that wants to get
into the coaching profession, they're going to have a job fair,
which we're going to speak about at seven fifteen. We're
(00:42):
gonna hear from d Mark Clayton at about seven thirty
three on the NFL Draft, and I'm gonna throw it
right now to my co host Anthony. Andy's Anthony, how
are you?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'm doing fantastic this morning? How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Well? I just don't understand. I'm gonna be honest with you.
I'm confused and I want to let you clarify it
for me. Denzel Aberdeen, who was projected to start from Florida,
played in multiple minutes almost half the game, nineteen point
seven minutes. I think, to be exact, it's transferring to
Kentucky after winning it at Florida to come off the
(01:20):
bench again. I don't when he was projected to be
a starter and try to repeat a championship at Florida.
This is different, Anthity. I don't mind players getting paid.
You all know I've been protecting players on getting paid.
I have fault with people on players getting paid. But
this one is weird. I just don't get it. So
and before I though it to you in the national news,
(01:43):
help me out. I just you won a national championship
at Florida. You've got multiple players coming back. You've got
big people coming back. Call you've got multiple I mean
Alex is coming back, You've got two or three starters,
and you leave Condon is coming back out as Condon
is coming back. I don't get it. Help me explain
(02:06):
it to me. Why would he transfer to Kentucky again?
In Anthony, before you say money, Florida's got money, They
just wont it. I just don't understand it. I don't
help me out.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
No, I wasn't gonna say it has to do with money,
I was gonna stay to do with I think more
of a contention for another national championship. And I think
we all know it's safe to say that Florida is
a good team or a good program. But from the
players that they've lost this past season, do I really
think that Florida is a contender like how they were
this past season for a national championship? No, I don't
think so. I think Kentucky's listed higher in the top
(02:42):
twenty five projected this year the Florida is so is
U of L. Yes, so a lot of people are,
you know, if they're offering the same amount of money
to go to another team that has a strong contention
to win it. I think that's the situation that he's
more so in because his NIL evaluation is gonna be
about the same from team to team. It's not going
to vary in change that much.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I agree, maybe.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Maybe a couple of hundred thousand the best, but you know,
we're not looking at all. He made a million of
Florida and Kentucky's offer them three. That's just not how
it's going to happen. I think he's going to Kentucky
for a national contender, because I think without Walter Clayton, realistically,
right now, Florida is not a contention team.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Okay and Anthony, I agree, But here's my question to everyone.
I agree everything that you said. No one thought Florida
was going to win it this year, not win it at all.
I don't care what anyone says. I'd like to know
the people that placed a wager on the Gators to
win it all in the n Cuba this year. I
just like to know how many did. I'm sure a
few did, but you understand what I'm saying. So how
(03:42):
would he know? He didn't know last year.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
They were going to win one.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
No one knew Clayton would play as well as he played,
so how would he know that he couldn't do that?
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I just I'm with you didn't You didn't if you
didn't have as high his n IL evaluation wasn't as
high last year, and realistically, out the deep run and
the team that they had last year, you had, we
probably would.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Have no idea who this guy is. Just saying that's
not even knocked to him. We just know that he
was a good player that came off the bench but
Yeslayer would have it would have had a regular season
of you know, twenty and twelve like they did the
year before, you wouldn't know who this guy is. But
now since they've won, he has a little bit more
skin in the game to go out there and he
(04:25):
can evaluate his anil and go to another team that
has another championship contender, because right now he's not an
NBA player, So he's gonna keeps his resume and his
draft black if he wants to go to the EuroLeague,
if he wants to try the NBA market in a
year or two, they have a little bit more Yeah,
he has a little bit more crazy to be like
I have, you know, I have a championship resume, I
(04:45):
know how to win, I have a you know, you know,
a great a caliber when it comes to that aspect.
I was an ISO player on a on the National
Championship one team, an eight seed.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
I got you, and that can happen. So the bottom line,
the caveat is that Kentucky's name will pull players, is
what you're telling me. And if you were Aberdeen and
Kentucky made an offer and the money's the same, guys,
(05:17):
like you said, Anthony, he made a mili he made
five hundred thousand, He'll make six hundred thousand. He's not
gonna jump to a million five. He's not. This was
he was gonna make money at Florida. So this wasn't
a money move. He just is making decisions to where
he thinks he's got a better chance winning it at
Kentucky and Anthony, I would agree with you with this one.
This one, I'm gonna give in yes, if you have
(05:38):
to evaluate right now Florida and Kentucky, Kentucky has a
better chance of winning it, I would agree. And he
could be in the same situation he was in Florida
last year. He could be coming off the bench. I mean,
with the players they have, I don't know. We have
to wait and see. But then they've got Cam Williams
from Tulane shooter. They've got Low from Pittsburgh at seventeen
a game. I expect him to played quite a bit.
(06:01):
They've got Aberdeen now at seven point seven. They've got
the young freshman guards, I mean, Anthony, they're pretty good,
Jasper Johnson, They've got quite a bit. Now. Last thing,
we're trying to get to national news, but we will.
We see Travis Perry is leaving. Okay, so what do
you think? I thought, Anthony, but things have changed it
(06:22):
I would agree again, guys, I'm not knocking anyone. If
I was at the University of Louisville and did not
think I was going to play, I would leave back
in nineteen seventy nine, So I don't want anybody to
It just surprised me. I thought that Perry would grow
with the program. I think he's a good play and
he played quality minutes this year for Kentucky. But I
(06:43):
can see how he would think that they were recruiting
over his head. Do you think leaving was the best
avenue for Travis Perry?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think so because obviously he's he's in a situation
where he's not going to get all the million COVID
years and all the Rencher years to use his freshman year.
So realistically, he has three seasons left like a normal
high school player would coming out in college basketball, so
he wants to go out there and be able to
play with a transfer portal coming in. He wouldn't have
played a lot this year, just like how he did
last year. He would have played a little bit more,
(07:14):
but it wouldn't have been you know, astronomical minute when
he knows he could. You could still transfer to another
SEC school you could go to in a situation, right
and he could go to a Georgia or an Old
miss or Mississippi State and go down there and get
quality minutes.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah, he could.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
We could go out there and he's a he's a
young twenty year old who averages fifteen to sixteen a
game and be a first round picking the draft. He
comes out and he plays like how he's supposed to.
Or he can go out there and he could transfer
and have a Walter Clayton type senior year in a
few years to where that he know, he's still putting
himself in the first round pick projection even at twenty
two years old. But Kentucky's just so strong right now,
(07:51):
and the recruiting has always been so good. It's hard
for him to go out there and compete with these
one grown men right now and two a lot of
guys that have experience, great point to have experience over him.
When you're trying to win a championship, they're like, oh, Mark,
and I even knock the Mark Pope. It's just how
college basketball is.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
If I'm in the same it's not.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Better in experienced players that are more physical, more mentally
developed than be Like I like the young kid. Let's
go out there and just give him a chance and
risk your career as a coach.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Right, No, Anthony, I college, the landscape has changed. That's
just the facts. It has truly changed. Yes, the young
man had in his family had to make a good
decision for him. I hate that he has to play
against guys like Baker Mazario who's going to be twenty
six years old. I mean, he's going to be twenty
six years old and those kind of situations. But well,
(08:45):
I just I like the homegrown aspect, but he does
have to make business decisions for himself. I think that
Travis Perry is going to develop and be a pretty
good player. I really do, Anthony. I'm not saying he's
an NBA player read Shepherd player, that he doesn't have
that athleticism, But Anthony, he's gonna be a good player
for someone, and he needs an opportunity to play. So
(09:09):
I'm happy for he and his family. I know it
was a hard decision. I know it was for him
because just being in Kentucky. From Kentucky but it just
shows you that people have to make the correct decisions
for themselves and their family, and I'm happy for the
young man. We'll just have to wait and see where
ends up going. But there'll be people that want Travis Perry,
and he's got a skill. He can shoot the ball,
(09:31):
and he played in some high quality games last year,
so he got an opportunity with all the injuries to play.
So anyway, Anthony, things just have changed. We should have Shannon.
Do we have doctor Brooks with a yet or she
a no show? Okay, great, Well we're gonna Anthony. We're
(09:52):
gonna throw it to you and let you hit the
national news and Shannon let us know. I'll try to
contact make sure I remind doctor Brooke. I'll try to
reach out to her and let me know what you
caused it. Anthony, go ahead, Yeah, of course.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
So obviously some of the national news we are getting into,
getting into some of the NHL games I played last night.
The Hurricanes did take care of the Devils three to one,
taking a two to oh lead on them in the
East in their first round. The Maple Leafs beat the
Senators in overtime three to two, and they'll take a
two to oh lead over the Senators are also as well.
In the Eastern first round. The Tampa Bay Lightning did
(10:28):
fall the Panthers last night. They took a toss loss
six to two. The Florida Panthers did take a one
to oher lead in that series, and then last night
the Minnesota Wild did tie it up against the Las
Vegas Golden Knights five to two, so they tied their
series one to one in the West first round. From
the NHL side, going in our NBA side, we had
a couple of couple of close games last night, a
couple of games that were about what we projected obviously.
(10:51):
Last night, the Pacers did take care of the Busts
at home again, taking a two oh lead on them,
with Damian Little in return. He hadn't played in a while,
so he came out to a little bit of a
rough start out there, but they did make a push.
They won a thirteen oh run. At one point in
the fourth, the Pacers were up one hundred and fifteen
to one hundred. The Bucks surged in a minute and
a half on a thirteen oh run, bringing to one
(11:11):
fifteen to one thirteen. But Pascal Siaka my formal Raptor
did hit a big three to take them up one
to eighteen to one thirteen at the time, and that
pretty much sealed the deal, inning net score one twenty
three to one fifteen over the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Stop it right there, Anthony, stop it right there. Because
the late Great Junior Richmond, when he was on our show,
he spoke about that Doc Rivers, the organization knew that
this was a deep run or major changes were going
to happen. If I think that a lot of things
are going to happen, I think Doc Rivers is going
(11:44):
to lose his job if they get swept. If they
lose this series, Doc Rivers and his staff will be gone.
I don't know if Giannis will be back. There's gonna
be major changes in Milwaukee. There's going to be major changes.
It doesn't look good. Well, have to wait and see.
They'll have an opportunity to go home and see if
they can win their next two games. But Indiana looks
pretty good in that series, and there's a lot of
pressure on the Bucks right now. If they want to
(12:06):
keep that core coaching, general manager, player group together, there's
gonna be major changes. So I was hoping that Great
and we've got doctor Brooks on the line. I was
hoping that Milwaukee could get it done. So guys, let's
go to break. We've got doctor Brooks with us. When
we come back at seven eighteen, we're going to talk
(12:26):
about these opportunities to coach in the Justin County school system.
After the break, e sports Radio pull numbers five zero two,
five seventy nine hundred. We'll talk to you all in
a minute. Welcome back to sports Radio seven two. I
do believe it's the twenty third of April Wednesday. Anthony,
(12:46):
of course, got the wonderful doctor April Brooks on the
line with us. All I remember is that when she
ran a University of Kentucky Anthony, and we had a
fundraiser from my sister down at the you know who
died of cancer. And I thought I was the athlete
in the family. And ran in the mini marathon in
Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon, Anthony, and you know, I said,
(13:09):
I know, I'm the man I took off. I was
assistant coach of the clevetand Cavaliers. Her dad, Carrie was
running the form of wildcat. A lot of wildcats in
this family, Anthony. I I hate to say that. I
hate to say that. And I just took off from
a Rick Bosich. I took off from him, said I
got this. I crossed the finish line feeling good about myself.
And here comes April, already picked up her little flower
(13:29):
and her congratulations for finishing. I'm like, what you do?
Get on the motorcycle? She said, No, you're slow, Cherry.
How you're doing, doctor.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Brooks, I'm doing well.
Speaker 6 (13:39):
That is a great memory.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
That it is. No, that was not a great memory.
I didn't like that. April was mad then, and you
know it. I'm mad now. People don't know you know
it so bad, April. You know, I get catch all
kinds of grief from my Cardinal fans on the radio,
(14:02):
saying that I'm a wildcat? Would you please tell them
how much h L I give you and carry about
going to contact me. They just don't believe. I just
need my Cardinals to win more, see I am. But
y'all beat me so much as hard and I had
to remind one person, yes, your Wildcats, it was a
mercy rule. Y'all beat me in baseball yesterday. But I
(14:24):
won the first game for three on a walk off
in the tenth Inny. So we split this year, the
Wildcats and the Cards split. But anyway, Doc, we'll leave
the Cats and Cards for a holiday parties. How are
you doing and what's going on in the justicketyo.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
We've got a lot of amazing things going on. We're
having a coach's hiring fair this Saturday at Seneca High
School from nine to twelve. We're looking for quality coaches
and a lot of different sports, particularly archery and baseball, basketball, bowling.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Year.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
You've got lots of open positions and we need those
so that we can ride to the occasion at the
state championship.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Archery. You mean archery, archery, bowling.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Already got.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
There was no archery when I was in school. You
do it. There was no bowling team when I was
in school. I could have been an All American both
April I'm lying. Sheila beats me. April, my wife kills
me in bowling. I was lying, That's why. And he
tell the truth. I was lying in April.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Anything outside of basketball, we don't know. Slow here he
threw off some fake golf numbers.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Yes day.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
He said he played three holes and had two pars
and the double bow. He's definitely that guy, but he
plays by himself. But yeah, I had like four birdies,
two pars, and then you got in there to make
it sound realistic. Look, I double bogie that one hole.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
But uh, you know the.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Whole always gets me. You know, sure, yeah it would,
you would even through three holes. Am I'm not hearing it.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
See this is what happens when I bring on a wildcat.
My show goes astray. That's why I don't like Kentucky.
I don't like the cats I've got. I've got sponsors
I'm trying to I've got Carney's galleries. He's win with Hey,
but you're not so funny, Anthony. We all know John Carney,
(16:36):
great carpet, great employees. But when Saint Xavier got beaten
the state tournament, Anthony, I didn't hear from John. Have
you heard from him, Anthony, I haven't heard anything. Where
are you, Carney? Is all I want to know where
you've been. Saint Xavier went down when Kentucky lost, I
didn't hear anything from him. In Tennessee beat him either.
I did hear anything from you, April, when Tennessee got
(16:58):
you in Indianapolis, I was at the.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Get now heartbreaking, heartbreaking, but we're just gonna come back better.
That's what we do.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Okay. I just want to make sure I was playing
Rocky type all the way home, fighting words. So look, April,
what are the criteria for your coaches? Tell a lot
of people believe that they have to be teachers. I
want you to explain to people the criteria for your
(17:27):
coaching positions.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
So you do not have to be a teacher. You
do have to do a new higher application and come
into the welcome center. We're going to be doing a
lot of that on Saturday, where they can actually do
their applications online and they'll have to get their physical
background check. But we're looking for people who are passionate,
want to work with you, have patience, that are willing
(17:52):
really to give up their time to really invest in
the youth.
Speaker 6 (17:55):
And so there's a lot of.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Different opportunities to be either a head coach or assistant coach,
but we need people out there who want to really
want to invest in the East.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Okay, sorry, they.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Come to Seneca High School and we will have representatives
of every sport out there.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Okay, they will come. They will solicit the sport that
they want to try to coach, they'll put in their resume.
Of course you have to get a background check. We
know that coaches are so important to tell people all
the time. In my opinion, that people yes apply on line.
So then at that time you all will get back
with them. Do they get to select the school or
(18:37):
do you select the school for them? How does that go?
Speaker 5 (18:41):
So we'll have a list of vacancy so if that
school has that opening, then they can apply for that school.
Do you want people to think beyond schools and really
think about the sports offerings to make sure that we
have coverage throughout the district.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Okay, I understand, got you? Well, Doc, I might have
to show up, Brad, I might have to show up,
and I might have to just apply to teach Boland
because I'm good. I don't care what Anthony says. Bowling coach, Jerry's.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
Right, we want you on our bowling We might get you.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Know what, this is just blasphemy. I can't bowling. I'm
gonna teach him how to row gutter balls. That's all.
There's a place for a gutter roller.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
I'm really good in bowling too. P RPS won Tuesday
Championships in bowling. So we show out in all the
sports that we need some coaches to help leave these kids.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
No, definitely, So again Saturday, what's the time again? Nine
to twelve?
Speaker 5 (19:56):
Nine to twelve Seneca High School.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Okay, and come out, guys. Let's let's make sure it's
an opportunity to get into coaching. There are a lot
of young people and older people that want to coach
and get back their time and the kids definitely needed.
So Doc Brooks, we appreciate it. Anything we can do,
just let me know. We'll get you back on and
other than that wildcat side of yours. You know, I
(20:21):
love you, you know that. But I didn't like your
beating me when we ran for scholarship fund for University
of Louisville. Let's get that straight. We were raising money
for Donnat the way, the scholarship University of Louisville. That's
what we're running for it. I didn't like you beating me,
but I got the rest of the family members. I
got your dad, I got your sister, I got Ribosage Anthony.
I wasn't a scrub. I just didn't win.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Yeah, yeah, you need you needed somebody from UK to
bring it home. Now, that's okay.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
That's okay. See, that's that's why I don't like you
some days. That's okay, that's okay. So anyway, Doc, you
have a great day and hopefully a lot of people
will show out for you. I will announce it again
tomorrow for your job there at Seneca High School.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
Thanks dok okay, good, thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Bye bye, Anthony. Where at seven point thirty, see that
wildcat's out of the family. An if people just don't
know mal when I beat when we Ballad beats Mail.
As soon as all Tiffany's daughters, april sisters daughters go
to Mayo and they can't even come in the house,
(21:28):
I give them grief. They know balid Nation rules University
of lover Fans. I just catch grief, Anthony, Cardinal fans.
I tell the truth on my show. I just need
us to start to beat Kentucky. Watch me talk junk.
But I'm not gonna come on my show and lie
because it's propaganda. I just want us to win. Ooh, Anthony,
(21:49):
please don't let my Cardinals start to beat the cats.
Oh God, there are people. I'm gonna run out of
the city, and do you understand me? People I mean, Ryan,
he'll have to leave the state. Honestly, I'll leave Patty,
but I'll run him out of the state. I just
need some more victories. So seven thirty one, finish with
the National News. I know you had gotten into the Milwaukee.
(22:10):
Let's finish with the National News and talk a little
bit about Cooper flagging those guys, and then we'll go
to break.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah, obviously that so obviously the other two games that
we had in the NBA part, we did have the
Grizzlies lose the Thunder again ninety nine to one. Eighteen.
Thunder did take a two to zero lead over the
Memphis Goozies. Will be heading out to Memphis for Game three.
The Lakers did tie the series up last night in
septemb Bowls ninety four to eighty five. This will be
one one in that series heading back to Minnesota. But yeah,
(22:38):
with a lot of young guys. Obviously, my guy, Cooper
Flag is leaving Duke, so he's going on to the
NBA Draft, which I already knew he was. Everybody's talking
about him coming back. I don't think the chance of
him coming back are probably slimming to none realistically, just
the you know, it's hard to ever say you're to
be the number one pick. And even though you're throwing
(22:58):
the money aspect in there, it's just bad money. You
can't compete with over at college in IL, which is
not even close. Night and day.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Yes, so we're gonna find out more. It is, oh
he is. Let me tell you something before we go
to break. And we were watching and I've been watching
the games, and I do like the playoffs. Guys watch it.
It's don't I understand the regular season, the taste that
it leaves in your mouth, but the playoffs are good.
Last night and my line, Anthony, We're sitting here watching
(23:27):
the game, and okay, see Cason Wallace shows drives next
thing he knows Anthony, he's case and Wallace from Kentucky.
That boy, he's a beast. He dunked on that boy.
Tell the true Atny, we both screamed at the same time,
Tell the truth. I had no idea he was gonna
do that, none whatsoever. I have no idea he was
(23:49):
that athletic he put that thing down. I'm like Mike,
I love HIMBA playoffs. I'm being honest with you all.
Do not be arrogant and say I understand in the
regular season, I agree with you, but not in the playoffs.
Those guys are playing Casey Wallace dunked on that boy.
Good gosh, he's Anthony. He's really good. Okac Anthony. I
(24:11):
like him now, Anthony. They've got a real chance of
bringing it home. They can defend you, they can defend
off the bench. I mean they've got players they have true,
they've got three players that can guard John Moran and
most teams don't have any. And they're really good. I
like them. So we're gonna get to break Anthony when
we come back. NFL Draft is Thursday. I had to
(24:33):
get some time from Mark Clayton. Some great questions about
your doors, Sanders, some of the sleepers that he's expecting
to see, and what's going on in rule changes in
the NFL. We're gonna talk to you and let you
hear from Mark Clayton. After the break. It's Esports Radio.
It's seven thirty four. Welcome back to the Sports Radio.
Seven thirty seven. Anthony, We're gonna throw this to the
(24:55):
Mark Clayton, eighty three or four NFL touchdowns should be
in the NFL Hall of Fame. I don't standard but
a fantastic guy. He's coming back for Louisville's homecoming this year,
he told me last night, But I want you to listen.
I did an interview with Mark, and of course I've
had people ask me where all my celebrities and they
live closer to the West Coast than the East coast.
(25:15):
And people don't want to jump up at four in
the morning, but they have no problem giving me fifteen
sixteen minutes. So we're going to listen to an interview
with the Mark Clayton, Miami Dolphins great and a personal
friend of mine, oneful young man.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Eve's Sports's Radio. We've got the one and only Mark Clayton,
Miami Dolphin, Super Bowl participant, eighty four NFL touchdowns and
just a fantastic person. Always beats me in golf, but
that's okay. I'm going to get him one day. Mark,
Welcome to the sports Radio. How are you hey. I'm
doing fine, man, Thanks for having me brother. Oh no, no,
(25:51):
I appreciate your time. Mark down in Houston, taking it easy,
playing a lot of golf and I'm trying to get
my golf game together. Also, Mark, that's all I'm saying.
My boys beat up on this Sunday. But Mark, it
is what it is.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
Well, you can't do nothing about that Ben that you
sometimes just takes over out there on that golf course.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
It does. So anyway, Mark, I wanted to call you.
We've got of course, the NFL Draft is Thursday night,
such Thursday and Friday, a lot of excitements going on.
You've been in participants, played in the NFL, you've been
an All Star. You know all the facets of this game.
So I just wanted to ask you a few questions
to enlighten some of my friends about what's going on.
And first and foremost markets definitely Colorado Buffalo's Sdor Sanders.
(26:34):
He could be in the top three picks and he
may not be selected in the first round at all.
What do you think the problem is?
Speaker 6 (26:42):
Well, you know what, though, Jerry, I'm not really for
sure because sometimes you know, over the years, you've looked
back on some guys that after their college season they're
highly talented, and they say that they projected to go
between say one through ten through twenty. But then on
draft Day, the day before draft, something you know happens
(27:05):
and then you say, then they say, well, you know,
this guy may not. He may slip out of the
first round and go to the second round. I don't know.
For whatever odd reason that you know, changes their mind
over the course of a couple of days. I don't
know what it is, but you know, I think this
Chaudor is going to go in the first round somewhere. Okay,
I don't think. I don't think he can totally slip
(27:27):
out of the first round. I think he's too good
of a talent to slip totally out of the first round.
But hey, stranger things have happened, though. Stranger happened, like
Marino going to number thirty two in the draft or
thirty one whatever he was in eighty three, that he
came out the next to the last pick in the draft,
and Lamar and Lamar Jackson slipping to the last pick
(27:50):
of the first round the year he come out.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
You're right, You're right. I mean, when you see Dan Marino,
I didn't know that until you said that to me.
Then I remember, because Dan said he was going to
show the league the mistake they made. I remember, Oh,
I think he did. Renal's one of my all time favorites.
He's top three of all time in my opinion. As
(28:12):
for spending the football, he could spend that football. My goodness.
Tell me something, though, are you do you think any
of the teams are leary of the side show that
comes with Shador Sanders. I mean there is a side show,
mark there is, we know that. What do you think, Well, I.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Think there are some teams that are a little larry
and most skeptical of the of the side show that
comes along with the potential of, uh say, drafting Shador Sanders.
But but for the most part, I think that, you know,
they're gonna just really do most of the teams that
really can overlook it, you know, whatever Dion might be
bringing to the table, besides his son. But you know,
(28:52):
I think that, you know, they gotta really just you know,
think that this is the dad looking out, looking out
for his son, wanting the best for his son, wanting
the best situation for a son to bend. And I
think that, you know, for the most part, most teams
can can handle that. And you know, and everybody's you know,
dad is not the stature of a Dion Sander to
be able to do what he's doing. So I don't
(29:13):
think that he's really bringing that much of a a
distraction to the team or to his son for that matter.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
I mean, I agree with that, it's just it seems
through all the chaos that's going on in Colorado and
they're always on television that I was just wondering if
teams would say, hmm, is he good enough? Mark? He's
a good talent. When I'm looking at this year's quarterbacks.
I saw Ward play Louisville at Louisville this year, and
(29:42):
he's a good quarterback. But nobody set me on fire.
I mean, there are no Allen's, they're no Jackson's, they're
no Boroughs. I just don't feel that way. Maybe Wart
can change my mind, but I just didn't see that
in this year's quarterbacks. That was my only issue with
They could draft somebody at another position, Mark that to
be a quality impact player right away without the circus
(30:04):
that comes along with it, we don't. Okay, you know
Pittsburgh Steelers have to take a quarterback or do you
think they're gonna wait for Aaron Rodgers. That's another circus.
What do you think?
Speaker 6 (30:15):
Uh, you know that would be me. I wouldn't be
waiting on Aaron Rodgers. I think, you know, for the
most part, I think he was. He was he was
a He's a great player, don't get me wrong, but
I think his better days are behind him as opposed
to in front of him. But you know, this is
what my thing. I think They're not gonna just sit
back and twiddle their thumbs and wait on him because
(30:38):
they have Mason rudolph and and Skylar Thompson on on
their roster as the quarterback. Okay, they have to they
have to do something, you know. I don't know what
it is. But but one thing that I think is
potentially on the table for them, that you know, is
not really being talked about that much when it comes
to the Steelers is uh they could actually potentially uh
(31:02):
trade for Kirk Cousins in Atlanta. Oh you know, because
Kirk Cousin has a no trade clause in his contract
right and he stated that that he does want to
be a starter. So you know, I think if the
Steelers presented a package to the Atlanta Falconus, I think
(31:24):
that he would wave his no trade clause because there
is an organization where he could go and be the starter.
Because they let Justin Bields get up out of the
building as well as Russell Wilson get out of the building.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
I agree with you. I've heard those rumblings. I mean,
I'm Mike tomlin Man with out of doubt. I told
you forever the Cowboys could. I would be a Cowboy
fan if they would get Mike Toddlin, even though Pittsburgh's
not gonna let him go. But this quarterback thing has
started to linger in Pittsburgh to where it seems that
they can't solve it, and I've heard that Kirk cousin
situation would be a great solution. Mark.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
I think that that was kind of weird that that
led both of the quarterbacks that was on their roster,
that two guys that had started games last year to
get out of the building. You know, they were they
not that really, you know, I on either one of
them to let them potential both of them were. They
traded justin fields to the Jets, and they just let
(32:28):
Russell just walk out the door. So you know, I
don't know. I'm a Mike Common fan as well too.
But you know, I never thought i'd see the Pittsburgh
Steeler in the predicament where they don't have a solid
starting quarterback with those two guys that I named man,
you they gotta have to They're gonna have to do
something at that position because they traded for DK Metcalts,
(32:51):
and who's going to throw to him?
Speaker 3 (32:53):
I agree, I agree. It's it's very unusual for Pittsburgh.
There's such a solid franchise to be in this predicament
and waiting or supposedly waiting for Aaron Rodgers, who I
agree with you, his better days are behind him. Everyone
knows that sports has got a sense of humor. You
don't get better, you get worse, period, point blank. You
(33:13):
get older, your body doesn't do what it used to do.
You're not as sharp, cognitiant skills aren't the same.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
And this not of this is not basketball where you
can look Attle James, if you played twenty two years,
you know nobody's gonna play twenty two years in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Not getting hit the way you all get. It's a
real man's sport. I tell him all the time, No way,
there's no fake flopping. You all are hitting every day.
Every game means something.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
You know.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Now, the NBA is trying to play mark the playoffs
they trying to play, but regular season they go through
the motion.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
You know it.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
And I know it too. We watch too many games.
Tell me something though, we didn't know. Two or three sleepers.
Three people you like in this year's draft that people
may not expect to be good.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
Well, uh one guy you know, that defensive tackle for
uh Min Michigan, Mason. I think that guy right is
gonna be a player. I mean really uh uh. That
Walker kid, that linebacker from from Georgia, I think he's
gonna be uh uh a guy to look out out
(34:20):
for too, because you know Georgia's breeds a lot of
great defensive players that come from that school, and I
think he fits go to another one of those. And
then then again you might have to look at the
a guy uh from out of Penn State, the tight
end Tyler Warren.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Yeah, got a lot of interest, Yes.
Speaker 6 (34:42):
Yeah, And that kid is good as as well as
uh as well as Jason Taylor's son too, Mason Taylor
Uh a tight end too out of l s U.
I think he could be a sleeper in this draft
as well too, to turn out to be.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
A guy that has a great foot NFL career that's
not really going to be talked about much on the
first day.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Okay, you're all pro wide receiver, eighty plus NFL touchdowns,
four or five hundred receptions Ken Travis Hunter played both ways.
Speaker 6 (35:16):
Well, you know, my son and I was talking about
that today earlier. If it was me and I had
you know, my drothers to play both sides, you know,
I would play on the offensive side primarily. And can
you know, because you know, I think that he's got
great offensive skills, great hands, and I think that the
(35:39):
dollar is going to be you know, he's gonna have
a great opportunity to make more money as a receiver
as opposed to a defensive back. But you know, he
can still play both ways. I don't think he's gonna
play the amount of plays that he played in college.
You know, I think they if he was play offense,
you know, and and they will put in put him
(36:01):
in on a nickel package for defense. And that's not
many that you know, there a lot of people are
going to a lot of nickels. So he might get
a lot of opportunities to play a lot of downs
on that side of the ball as well too. But
you know, I think that they're gonna really make him
concentrate and focus on one side of the ball or
the other. With special packages for either side of the ball,
(36:23):
that he's not the starter off got.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
No, there's just no way tell me practice time. There's
no way he could split his time and be good enough.
Or could he to be a great wide receiver practicing
half the time and a great defensive back practicing half
the time. Don't you all break up into groups and
everybody's doing How could he do that? How would that work?
Speaker 6 (36:44):
Well? Because see, you know they split up the package,
that split up the offensive sessions and the defensive sessions,
you know on different days. See like we did, like
on Wednesday it was offensive day and Thursday for the day.
So you know he will come in and you know,
and and do his deal on it one day when
(37:06):
it's office today, and then the next day, you know,
he would get flip to flip to go to the
other side and then work on whatever they're trying to
incorporate into the game plan on that day. So he's
he could potentially do that on you know, practice. But
you know, I think that man, I just don't foresee
that's a lot of wearing tail on that little young
(37:27):
man's body. I know he's young and full of full
of gumption and everything like that. But but man, you know,
he played a lot of downs for Colorado, a lot.
I'm just wondering, you know, if eventually, you know, his
body will just tied, just tire out on him. I
(37:49):
don't care how young. You know, that's a lot of
wearing tail your body at the at the highest level,
going against the best of the best, weekend and week out.
I don't, no, man, I think here and there he'll
be able to do it from time to time. Whoever
drafts him, you know, if they're not listening to Dion,
(38:10):
you know, you know, trying to force their hands to
make him play both sides consistently. I don't think that's
gonna happen in NFL. I don't think it really can
in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
I agree with you. There's just no way he could
running offensive scheme up in Dallas field, punt slip over
and then Chase Lamar Chase. It's just I don't I
don't see it. I don't know.
Speaker 6 (38:35):
I don't thing's happening.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
The wide receivers that are out there now, there's just
there's just absolutely no way. But bark, okay, anything that
football wise that you think they need to change, is
there anything with the rules you want to see or
is the NFL. I think the greatest run sport, professional
sport in America is the NFL. Is there anything he'd
like to see changed? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (38:58):
I would you know, I would like I can see
them change, uh their challenge rules. I would like for
them for every and any and everything to be challengeable.
Everything just just like just just say, like you know,
the CFL teams and the Canadian Football League, they and
(39:18):
the and the U S u f L. You can
challenge anything you can. They only give one challenge, but
you can challenge that. You can if the rougheree don't
see that you got held or a passing affairs or something,
you can you should be able to challenge that. If
you want to keep the integrity wide open of this game,
(39:39):
I think everything should be challengeable.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
I got you well, Mark, I mean you would know,
and like always, we appreciate you just taking your time
out to come on East for Its radio. When you're
coming back to Luis Playton.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
I'm gonna I'm gonna come back. I'm gonna come back
for homecoming this year. I'm gonna come back for the homecoming.
Get great, great My first time coming back from homecoming,
and I'm gonna come back out and and and see
a game live right there. I don't know when they're home,
when they're oncoming.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
I don't either, but I'll find out.
Speaker 6 (40:13):
I don't either, but as soon as I find out,
I'm gonna make my reservations. I'm coming in.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Mark Clayton, appreciate you, like always say your beautiful wife,
I said it low and thanks for coming on Eves
Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Man.
Speaker 6 (40:26):
Say hello to your family as well too.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
I'll do it. That's the Mark Clayton Miami Dolphin.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
He's one of the best, not in the Hall of
Fame that you'll ever see, one of the nicest guys
to come out of University Louisville without a doubt, and
I can't wait to play some more golf with him.
I'm coming to Houston before you come to Louisville. Clayton
is the Sports Radio will talk to you all after
the break.
