Speaker 1 (00:02):
You have to love the laugh. Welcome back to Eve
Sports Radio, and I'm gonna be honest with you, it's
like vacation. I had forgotten it was Wednesday. I started
to talk and then here came my day commercial and
Shannon bust out laughing and saying, hey, you forgot Shannon.
It's like vacation. This week, Churchill Down's Derby week is
nothing but vacation. I've had a ball, I'm tired. I'm

(00:26):
not gonna lie to you. I don't know how trainers
do it. I'm an early bird, but this is extremely
early every morning, and the city is on fire. So
congratulations for the one hundred and fifty first running of
Kentucky Derby, which we eat Saturday, May the third. This
is the last day in April. If you all did
not know it April the thirtieth, this is the last

(00:47):
day in April. It is now May. So guys, the
year is moving on. That old sayne long days but
short years. I mean, it seems like your days are
so long. I was doing everything all day yesterday, but
when you look up, I'll be singing you all Christmas
songs again. So welcome back to the show. Where's my
younger son. He's somewhere around here. He hung up. We'll

(01:09):
have to get him back, So wherever he is, he'll
come back. I don't know where he's roaming, but Miss
Gwynn and I are sitting guys at the new Paddock
and at Churchill Down's on the front side. We're in
section A two, between A two and A four, someone's tables.
I spread out my newspapers. He's back, young Anthony. Where

(01:30):
are you? I know you're somewhere in this Gotham Greek Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Where are you? I don't see.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
I'm pretty much right above you. But yeah, I had
gotten disconnected for a second. I think I hit the
wrong button all my headphones. But yeah, I'm right right.
I'm right upstairs on Reomer, sitting right outside of Champions balcony,
kind of looking over some of the stuff up top.
Obviously you got the Plaza balcony up here as well.
There's a couple other things. You know, you got the
Champions Corner, obviously, the new Paddic shop just opened up

(01:56):
last year, something that's brand new. And you know, we
come out here we did last year for the first time.
We got to see everything being built. We saw people
out here taking pictures some of the horses doing their
walk arounds before heading onto the track, getting accustomed to
the whole field. And the good thing about this is
I love seeing the jockeys and their trainers go through
their routines. And they go through routines. He's not just
going out on the track and running sprints or getting

(02:18):
some distancing just exercise. They'll go through their entire walkthrough
of how they would do an entrance and exit, coming
in and coming off to the track, to get the
horse adapted to different fields, walking on cobblestone, concrete, walking
in front of guests. There'll be people near him going
through different stables and hallways, getting comfortables with the fields,
looks and sounds of the entire track of Churchill Downs.

(02:39):
And that's what a lot of good trainers do, a
lot of good people like Bob Baffort, A lot. Bob
Baffort does a good job with his horses, and they're
great with adaptabilities. Something that I even did a little
research on myself and found out yesterday for those that
are loving the horse betting and horse racing, that Bob
Baffist's horse obviously he does have Rodriguez and to know
the horse as well. That his very adaptable citizen book.

(03:00):
That's correct, that are very adaptable changes of weather, climate
and conditions. Obviously we know, you know, as the weather
shows right now, we might have a wet derby going
on here. It could be a little bit of rain,
could be a little bit of muddy or in a
sloppy track, which does come in for some circumstances of
a lot of horses. The crazy thing is all the
odds of the favorites in that one through five position.
And I'm not talking about polls. I'm just talking about

(03:21):
favors going through the ones that are at six to one. Journalism,
you know, you got a couple of a couple of
other on there as well. Is that there's not a
lot of background information on those horses that run in
money conditions. Most of those running funny, it's usually usually
dry out. Some of them run on grass tracks, even
dirt tracks. You can obviously say even for Sam Man
when he ran down the Arkansas Derby was rather dry

(03:41):
down there as well. So these conditions are going to
change the outcome and looks for a lot of the
horses coming into the race on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Good with Anthony. With twenty horses, you have no idea
who's going to win the Kentucky Derby. That's the great
thing about this race because there's so many horses in
the field. So here's the deal, Anthony's up top. If
you have not had a chance to come to the
new paddock, it is really something you need to do.
You do not have to come Derby week. You can
come down on the don and watch and you have

(04:11):
a chance to see it and the Derby horses tomorrow
morning Thursday, I do believe, also on Friday, No tomorrow,
I'm not promising Friday, but tomorrow you can come out
again and have an opportunity to see the Derby and
Oaks horses come out at seven fifteen to seven point
thirty go through their paces. But here at the paddock,
like Anthony said, there's already been one horse that's already

(04:33):
gone through training and trying to get comfortable with what
they're going to have to do on Friday and Saturday,
and you'll see a lot of the trainers bring their
Oaks and Derby horses through early. They do not let
all the horses through. They let the Derby and Oaks
horses come through, go through their paces so they are
not too many horses and making sure that they understand

(04:53):
where their stalls will be. They take them into the stalls,
the jockey's mouth them. It may not be the actual
jockey that's going to them in the race, but the
jockeys will mount them, dismount, go through the paces. It's
really fantastic to watch. It's amazing to see the details
that these trainers go through trying to prepare these horses.
And any you know, you're hitting Bob Bafford, and everybody

(05:14):
knows that Bob Baffort and I we're not the best
of friends. That's okay. I'm a Kenneth mcpete man. I
hope Render Judgment gets some money. That's all at thirty
to one. I'm a Dale romans Man, Greg Foley. The
guys that I know mister case So. But Bob Baffort
is of course Anthony. He has won as many Derbys.
He is tied with a gentleman named Jones for the

(05:36):
most Derby's ever won. He has done a tremendous job here.
He's back after his two or three year hiatus from
Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby, and I wish him the
very best. But that's all I'm gonna say. Good about it.
That's it, Anthony, nothing else. So here's the deed. I'm
gonna tell you. There's been so much construction gone on

(06:00):
the Churchill Downs to change this place. It's a bucket list.
There's no question. Like Darren Rodgers said probably five or
six weeks ago on Eve Sports Radio and Darren Rodgers
VP of Communications, that all the construction, all the changes
that have gone on to this track, it's amazing. I

(06:20):
just wish I was telling my brother Carrie at our
yesterday at Wagoners, which we're going to get into in
a second, that I just wish my dad, honestly, who
was the horseman in my family. Carrie said it, but
you probably could not hear him on air yesterday. And
my mom's home, my mother lives with me, Carrie moving

(06:41):
my mom's home in the attict above the garage, two
car garage, the entire attict. I'm telling you we have
as many racing forms as anybody in America. I mean
that it's just amazing what my dad kept. I mean,
he kept it like a library. He just loved the horses,
and his friends would come out here and he didn't

(07:02):
make a lot of money, and they would bet a
dollar and two dollars on races and scream at horses,
and it was his pastime, it was his passion, Anthony,
no ifens or butts about it. And I just wish
that I could given him one day now that I've
gotten a chance to where all these trainers are just
and they've taken me in, maybe me like family. Like
I told you, I've been to Dale Roman's house, Kennedy

(07:24):
mcpete's house, Greg Foley lives up the street from his Anthony,
I mean, straight up covered Bridge. I mean, they're just
genuinely nice guys that have taught me a lot about
this business. They know I'm a layman, They make my show,
they make me feel comfortable. And then we talk a
lot of junk on the golf course, Anthony, we do.
But when you're just talking about nice people, the guys

(07:45):
I know in this business are extremely good people, extremely good.
So I just wish my dad would have the opportunity
to speak with them. Because I'm telling you, you could
add Coach Crumb, who he loved. He loved Coach Crumb.
You all you get, ad Rick Matino. You could have had, honestly,
Bill Russell, Bill Walton, and you could Addale Romans. He

(08:06):
went to Deal every time. He would have never he'd said, hey, coach,
he'd have smoked to Denny on his way to Deal.
I'm telling you, that's all there is to it. Or
due Lucas he died to take a picture with Duey
and Lucas he would have Guys, I'm just being honest
with you. So, Anthony, this place it is kind of
I used to just run around and pick up tickets

(08:26):
off the ground that people lost, Anthony and just have fun.
And they'd buy me a hot dog and a coke.
And I'm not into the way dream business people know that, an't.
I'm gonna bet two dollars across the board on number
five on multiple races Derby.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
But it's just.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
James Hanley, one of my roommates in college, who did
spend our rent at the track. He lost our rent
at the track. He did. I mean, he loves his place.
They can tell you all about the horses for the
last fifty years and it's just amazing the tradition of
this place. And you've been here a short time, but
you're starting to learn and feel the tradition. What do
you think, Anny, will you be bringing your kids out here?

Speaker 3 (09:06):
You know, I hope I can say I can get
to at some point. I think it's something that even
if you don't go over and over again, even just
going to and experience it, the full fulfillment of it
one time is it's enough to change your perspective on
a lot of things, you know, especially I talk to
people that live out of town, a lot of my
friends back in North Carolina, even something from Chicago, whatever
the case may be, and they've never been a Derby,

(09:26):
and they're like, well, what's so great about horse races? Like,
you'd be surprised how many people have invested their life
and livelihood in the horses. I'm like, you won't understand
the magnitude of it until you actually come. I'm like,
I'm not just saying just on Derby day. Come for
in a full tire week from you know, from the
start of Thunder all the way to child Wagon, all

(09:47):
the way to the balloon races up to five or Tuesday,
Thursday Friday Oaks. You'd be like, I didn't realize all
this went into just a single horse race. That they
show on television for two and a half minutes. I'm like,
this race alone, I we know is the greatest two
minutes in sports, but let alone that it is something
that Louisville has built a lot of money off of

(10:08):
and a lot of promise off of over the last
couple of decades. Of that, this is something that is
a staple of being someone that lives in Kentucky and
lives in Louisville. Alone, you know when May comes around
in April that you know that the city's about to change.
The water starts getting a little bit warmer. Graduating for
a lot of kids and students. People are coming back
home from college and the next thing you know, everyone's

(10:28):
out there in their best suits. Everyone's looking trimmed up,
good to go, ready to come out here, dressed to
and press to have a good time at Derby.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
It is absolutely it is. It is amazing, Oh it is.
I mean, we get the Super Bowl. I want everyone
to understand every year. That's the only thing I'm telling people.
They move the Super Bowl around from city to city,
but we have the Super Bowl every year. And yes,
I do understand, Anthony, the cost of it. And we
saw in the paper. I'm looking at it right now.

(10:57):
Churchill Doown's halts one billion dollar project on building, and
again that does put people to work. I want the
city of Litville to understand, but I do understand the cost.
Things are costly. We were talking about the drink cost
and how much things are meant you looked for twenty
two dollars and domestic beer is thirteen dollars and those

(11:17):
kind of things. But again, I tell people, you don't
have to drink when you come out, but you still
should come out and feel the environment of what's going on.
I do hope that we can get this worked out.
The turmoil that's going on with our economy right now.
It's turmoil. No if ens or butts about it. And
I see that ups is talking about laying off twenty

(11:38):
thousand employees, and UAW is upset saying you can't leff
our employees. And all the things that are going on
right now. We've had turbulent times we do and it's halted.
I mean, I don't I can't remember when Churchill downs
has stopped a one billion dollar project, but it has
waiting to see when we can get these things straight.
So hopefully we can get these things resolved quickly so

(11:59):
that our UAW workers can go back to work and
we don't have to lay off people at UPS. I'm
watching right now, Anthony, from where I'm sitting. There have
been three UPS planes that have come right by the
Twin spires that I'm looking at from my seat here,
and I'm in Section A one O two looking directly
at the spires, and I'm just hoping that we do

(12:20):
not have an impact here in this city. So seven eighteen,
when we come back, Anthony, we're gonna jump into yesterday.
We're gonna listen to a little bit from the favorite
journalism and his trainer that's going on, Michael McCarthy and
what he thinks of his chances, and we'll continue with
our discussion. But you all missed it yesterday. We had

(12:41):
a great show. And I'm telling you my Darth Vader
Ron my cat fan, I mean, he leaves in the
minute he leaves. Here comes coach Kelsey running up, Jerry, Jerry.
I'm like, who's to saying, Jerry Jerry? Coach Pat Kelsey,
University of Louisville. He's going to be on with us
next week. I'll let you know the date on Monday
when he'll be coming on. But we had a great

(13:02):
time after the show. Had a great time on the show,
and we're gonna talk a little bit about Thank you
Lee Wagner and Wagner's Restaurant for always hostiness. And we
will be back after the break. Anthony Esports Radio phone
numbers five zero two, five seventy nine hundred And I
do I owe someone some money from my NCAA contest.
I got your message. You didn't come yesterday. I would

(13:24):
have paid you. Please call the show so I can
get you on so we can get all your information correct.
Talk to you after the break. Welcome back to East
Sports Radios seven twenty three. We're at the paddockt at
Churchill Downs. It's beautiful. The day is starting to open up.
Of course, God's turning on the light's horse. It's starting

(13:45):
to lighten up and it's really nice. And Anthony, the
Derby and Oaks horses are on the track. So if
you can work your way anywhere near there, Anthony without
cutting yourself off, trying to do that. But before, as
you're walking, I want to ask you a question, Anthony.
Didn't it surprise you that at the end of the show.
Here comes Coach Kelsey running up in there, going Jerry, Jerry.

(14:07):
I'm like, uh oh, what did I do? I'm like,
what had his whole family with? I said, Oh, his
whole family's gonna whip me. And we got Marcus. Great. Great,
we'll get to Marcus. We'll get you in a second.
But Anthony, what I mean, what a great time? Coach
Kelsey was right on time, and by the time everyone

(14:29):
to wear Wagner's Restaurant understood who was outside and what
all the excitement was about. We were all pulling out,
but we had a great time. You got to take
pictures with him and speak with him. But I want
to talk to I want Louisville fans to know that
we Anthony and I was crazy, guys. You got to
understand people everywhere, but Anthony and I. We were all

(14:50):
in a group and Coach Kelsey and Anthony talked to
him about Prior's dad, who coached Anthony at Chicago State,
and we were all just chopping it up. Well, you
all know me, I just ain't help it. I said,
Coach Kelsey, what in the heck was I said, Anthony?
What was his name? I had forgotten his name, and
he said, you mean James Scott. I said, yeah. I

(15:11):
turned back to coach Kelsey. Coach, he says, Jerry, what
was he Thinkingly? He says, Jerry shook me to my core.
He says, I love that kid. I recruited him. He said,
I recruit him from high school. I said, coach, I
know all about his high school. I find the key.
My assistant coach at North Carolina and T coached in
two years. I know all about James Scott, and I

(15:32):
said the transfer porter he said, I couldn't believe it.
He says, Jerry, he touched it every possession. Correct, Anthony,
he said, we ran our offense through. He touched the
ball every possession. I said, that's just that he did.
I said, that's kids making bad decisions. I said, coach,
I'm not gonna lie to you. I said on the

(15:53):
show period point blank that he needed to give you
some of his name members and likeness money because you
made him a player, all the Lobbs dunk Master he
played when he was hurt. I mean, the city of
Louisville loved him. These are the decisions guys I don't like.
And here comes another derby horse or Oaks horse that
I do not like about naymage likeness. That kid is

(16:16):
not making a good decision. And I'm just gonna be
honest with you. With Coach Kelsey to the left, Anthony
to the right, I said, Coach, I've got people's wives
that could stand behind James Scott. He couldn't score it
on his own in the gym overnight. I'm telling you
we could leave him overnight with the lights on. He'd
have a hard time scoring ten points without dunking the ball.
If you made him shoot the ball, just like Creighton did.

(16:41):
They played drop defense and did not guard it. I said,
I just can't believe in. Coach Kelsey said he couldn't either. Anthony.
Talk about the passion Coach Kelsey had for the young man.
He wanted him to stay, but he could not believe
he left. Talk about it. An't.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
No, he definitely did. And we were just sitting there discussing.
He said he was just say he was heart broke
when he found out.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
You know that he was, Anthony. He said, Anthony, that's
sovereignty right there in front of me, guys. Sovereignty is
going through the paces right now. Do you see him Anthony.
And only reason I know it's because it's on the
it's on the saddle that was sovereignty. They just walked
by and said going through the paces. M boy, it's exciting.
I'm telling you I love this place. Go ahead, Anthony,

(17:21):
I'm sorry talk about James Scott now.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Coach kel no, of course, and he was just talking
about how he was just you know, he felt so
heartbroken that he had wanted to enter into the transfer port.
He said, you know, he didn't know if somebody may
be in the circle, but he said somebody had gotten
to him, and you know, threw it out there that
he maybe deserved more money, more name iminagcent likeness, and
you know he hopped into that transferport and is leaving
U of L. And you know, and I even said

(17:44):
to myself, I said, I said, I hate to say it.
I said, I think he's a great young man. He's
probably one of the nicest guys. But I said, you know,
I don't think if it was for PK comeing U
of L, we wouldn't know who James Scott is exactly.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Coach Kelsey made that. Boy, I'm just being honest with you, guys.
I've done this my whole life. Denny Crumb had a
lot to do with Jerry's success. But I was better
than that boy, Anthony. Coach Kelsey made that boy. I'm
sorry you all. I am telling you I've seen James
Scott through high school, the whole nine yards. I have

(18:16):
no idea where he thought greener pastors could be. He
had a system that worked perfect for him. It makes
these are decisions that make absolutely no sense, Jane, Anthony,
I just Coach Kelsey was hurt. Now, I want you
to know he was truly hurt. He wasn't upset. Dangy,
I'm glad he's gone. He's like, I can't believe I
lost a kid. I loved that kid. No, he was complete.

(18:39):
It was not what you all think to where he
was negative about him. No, he just said, I just
can't believe we lost him, and I can't either. I'm
being honest with you, I just can't. But he did say, Anthony,
which we're not gonna speak about directly. I'm not going
to talk for him. We'll let him on next week
that he liked some of his recruits, he really did,

(19:01):
and will let him speak about it. We're not going
to do that for him. But he spoke about some
of the kids coming in. He said, Jerry, he was
really excited about So, I mean, there's no question he
has turned the University of the level program completely around.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
And I don't want to I don't want to interruption
here possible. I think the horse walking in front of
you right there is Rodriguez.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Get out of here.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
So this is that. Yeah, if you kind of see me,
if you look forward a little bit, I'm way at
the top and walking towards to the front. If you
can see the backside of the track right now, it
is Po's oaks and Derby horses. But I'm up here,
but I can They were just show him on if
he just came off from his run on the track,
so he's doing his walk around here. Sovereignty did the

(19:44):
same thing as well, and they go into the stable
and they just sit the horse in there for a
couple of minutes, just kind of tucked off there to
you on there on your right side, yes, and then
they'll go back and run. But I can see all
the horses up here. I'm kind of I'm kind of
far away from you. I went on. I want on
a journey. If you look up, you look to the right.
You see my hand way up here at the side.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Oh, you're way at the top. You are godly. Yeah,
we get free roam in a place y'all didn't know
our own Churchill Downs. Also, y'all didn't understand it, but
I've claimed it. So Eastports Radio is everywhere, Anthony, great call.
Yes they're coming out. Oh man, it's exciting time. And
the backside Wednesday, Thursday and Friday it is madness you. Oh,

(20:23):
y'all just don't understand. I do wish, Anthony. I was
thinking about this last night. If I know, it would
bug the horses. So there's no way. But they have
some very quiet drones. If Churchill Down would ever approve
the use of drones to where that they could let
the people truly see from the air where you're looking

(20:45):
at the backside and the hustle, bustle or Anthony, that
would be a beautiful, beautiful picture. If they would allow
drones just and so they could see the true activity
on the backside, it.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Would just be no, it would be a great Whenever
we're done with this show, you you miss Wing got
to come over here, because I don't think you've seen
this part of the track yet in a while, but
I and you can see it. You can see everything
from over here. And I just walked over here and
just leisured my way in. You know, I pulled my
media passed out to wht him know that I'm certified.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Yes, yes, I understand that. And you gotta pull your
media pass. We have you have to use your media pass,
thank you, Darren Rodgers. Yes, so I just want people
to know that Coach Kelsey says his team's going to
be ready, both teams, and I'm so happy both teams.
Well you all do no, this is the funny part
of the show. Kenny's Big Peak is on the show

(21:36):
and he's a Kentucky fan. You only didn't know it.
Lives in Lexington, big Cat fan. His wife is a
big Cardinal fan, and Kenny has a horse that's named
after Coach Kelsey. Then Kelsey. So Kenny opens up our
show yesterday saying that I just saw p K. I
told him I was coming on your show. He said,

(21:56):
tell you hello, I had no idea that Coach Kelsey
was gonna come running to the show, but that's just
who he is. I said, good, I said, well you
know we've got you trapped. We're gonna convert you one
way or another. He's like, no way, but you do
have me between a rock and a hard place because
we got his wife. Kenny's wife is a Cardinal fan,
so you know, we got a little control of him.
But he says, yep, got a very good two year old.

(22:16):
We'll have to wait and see what happens. Right next
thing we know, Kenny has to leave to go back
and go to work with his horses, and here comes
coach k So I'm just PK. So I'm just appreciated
that he took time out, coach to come and speak
with the people. And a lot of the people that
were at my show took pictures with him. Oh, people

(22:38):
were running out of Wagner's restaurants to take pictures. I
took pictures he and his wife and kids and just
had a fantastic time. But Coach Kelsey will be on
next week. So now, Anthony, we're gonna play a cliff
and without a doubt, Journalism is probably the best horse
in the race. That doesn't mean he's gonna win the race, Anthony,
but he is the best horse in the race, and

(23:00):
we're going to listen to a clip from you'll hear
the jockey and the trainer McCarthy speaking about journalism. So
play it as we go into our second break.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Shan he's a very smart, intelligent also been saying this forever.
You know, it's a privileged to ride a horse like him.
He does his job, he put his feet on the track.
He's a really he's really smart. He really liked the
surface and once he aroun when you go around by himself,
he's a little bit lazy and I like that, but
definitely positive work.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
We got to think we got a good throw.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
There is some nice speed from the inside, some other
speed from the outside. Hopefully we can get a nice
spot to go into the first turn and then from
the alf Mouth pool we try to find a way
to bring him home.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Very good written all over the world, lots of experience,
very very tactical, does his homework.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
He has a good sense of pace, good sense of race, shape.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
And things like that.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
So I've got a lot of confidence in him.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Derby means to you, I mean, I think for everybody
means means a lot. You know, if you ask me
five years ago when I when I land in California.
If I was going to write it the first to
favorite to look at Taky de Be, I would tell you,
I don't know, but look.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
He's a privilege.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
It would be probably the best achievement, I mean not probably,
for sure the best achievements on Michaelias.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
How do you want to said?

Speaker 2 (24:22):
I'm obviously three to one, so I guess I'd like
your kids so as much as everybody else.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
That made it three to one certainly.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Eve Sports Radio at the Paddock at Churchill Downs at
seven thirty seven, Marcus, I'm sorry I made you hold.
Please bring Marcus onto the show. Marcus, Welcome to the

your money. Marcus. I do have leave your address again
with Shannon the Dude for me, please, and I would
definitely get it out. I was hoping you could have
made it out yesterday. I just wanted to try to
beat up on you a little bit, see if we
could have played pay persistors for that money.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
I work a third shields man. I guilt. At three
am in the morning, I went to the University of Hospital
and help all about three hours of sleep. Yeah, I
got you.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
You're burning, you're burning those fields. I got you. Know.
I appreciate you listening to these sports radio. I wish
you were here. It's a beautiful morning. The horses are
now coming out. They're coming through the paddocked area. How
you doing, sir. You've got young kids from high schools,
elementary schools taking pictures. You've got people viewing the horses.
I think they've really opened the track up now. I
think now that the Derby horses and Oak horses have

(25:38):
come off, all the people that down to the downs
are coming out now watching the horses go through their
paces here in the paddock. So I wish you were here,
but I would definitely get you your money if you
wanted to meet sometime next week. When do that or
I can put it in the mail. It's up to you.
You just let Shannon know what you want me to
do and I'll make sure it gets facilitated. Okay, coach,

(26:02):
appreciate you man, Thank you for listening. Tell me tell
me that I got one question for you, who wins
the Derby? One question?

Speaker 2 (26:10):
You know I was picked the last two? Uh, Derby winner.
I think the last year I picked mystic Dan. Uh
you didn't take that.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
I know you didn't. You want?

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Yes, I did? You could? You could? You could? I
could tell you about twins far our camp man got,
I mean it got. I'm basing them all back. Yeah, okay, well,
h uh I was. I always wait till like the
day was a Derby all But I think it's a
horse called like sign man. I believe yes, uh yeah, yeah,

(26:40):
I think I'm going. I think that's gonna be my
my my winner this year.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Man.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah, I think that's my winner. Yeah, because I don't know.
I don't want the favorite room man, Yeah, I don't.
I don't want the favors to win anyway, because they
don't pay nothing.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Man.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
I was like, you won't. I could put by like
ten out twenty dollars on and I could I can
walk away.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Doll Sandman six to one. If I'm looking at this properly,
he's six to one early on. It may have changed now,
but he's six to one, okay, So I mean he's
a favorite now, he's one of the chalks. He's got
an opportunity. So we've got Marcus.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Would I always move I alwauls go with like a
hont that is seng favorite and also I always like
a dark horse too. As our back.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Okay, Marcus, I appreciate you listening to the sports radio.
Leave your information with Shannon and make sure you leave
your number. I'll give you a buzz today or tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Okay, coach man, thank you, Bro.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Thanks.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I can't thank you, coach.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Yeah. Yes, I'm gonna tell you when when Marcus told
me about his Twins Fires account Anthony, Now you've got
to step in. Last night, I see Anthony working with
his mother's phone. My wife, my brother carries there. He's
got it a coount up and what are you doing? Andy?
What did you put on your mother's phone last night?
What did you do?

Speaker 3 (28:04):
I was all I did was down. I was downloading
the Twin Spires Act because okay, he likes the VET anyway,
so I was like, well this, you're gonna be betting
you might as well at this point download Twin Spires
as you can do it through your phone where you
don't have to go to the wagering season as much.
And she's like, well, I like going to the machines.
I said, well, you're missing out on free money. I'm
over here promoting for Twin Spires like I worked for him.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
I said, well, I'm trying to tell you they they
don't everst with me.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Gott, I said, I said, I said, as a new customer,
I said, if you don't have a Twin Spire account,
to automatically give you two hundred dollars in free bets
if you already are an existing customers. They usually run
promos around Derby time. They usually run for about a week.
You can use it at any time. But if you
deposit one hundred dollars and make a hundred dollars bet
on any race, we'll give you two hundred dollars and

(28:46):
that you get through just Twin Spires alone. She said
two hundred dollars. So I was like, you, you're gonna
be betting. If you're gonna be betting, you might as well
lose somebody else's money. Not sures you're.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Taking your mother down, Anthony, you and carry your uncle
carry I'm trying.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
I'm not paying dark.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
I'm look, I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Look, I'm saying I'm saving her money. That's what I'm doing.
I'm not taking her. Now you that anywhere she's that anyway,
so free.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
That's why I told her, I said, don't. I told her,
don't quit her day job.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
She said that gap.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
It's called gambling for a reason, Anthony, I bet.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Oh. Yeah, We've being shamblers across the board.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
I'm gonna tell you what my dad I told you
on now he would go come to this track. I
just don't know why the bug didn't bite me. It
just I love to watch them running, yell at them,
but ask for put money on him. I just can't
do it. I just add there. It's just not in
my blood. Everything else is. I love coming out, the excitement,

(29:46):
like you said, the pageantry, that dress, all the suits
and the dresses are gonna be so nice. We just
can't wait. But still, and we've got all kind of
people are swarming around us now and it's seven forty two.
So I want to give people some of my picks.
Got me from what transpired yesterday listening to Kenny Mcpete,

(30:08):
Dale Roman and Mark Johnson. Yes, and I'm not kidding
you all. I didn't remember Ron my boy Rhyn's my boy.
I hate it or not, it's my boy a cat fan,
but I stranged him when he goes too much blue
on me. I do. But he called me and said,
you know that Mark Johnson picked one two three like

(30:29):
two years ago. Right after the race. He says, you
know Mark picked it one two three, and Mark had
So I just want again to go through some of
the things that was said yesterday. Mark says, of course
he loves journalism. He says, without a doubt he thinks
that's the cream of the crop. But the cream of
the crop is not win the derby. He said that,

(30:50):
guys it, misteric Dan was not the favorite. We know
that for every young No one thought for every young
was even gonna get a piece of the money, not
even a thought. So that's why we have to look
at Lettar Cafe because it's another Japanese horse that's got
Kentucky backgrounds and roots that may have a shot. He
said for a long shot. He liked lucks Our Cafe.
So I just want to give people some of Mark

(31:12):
Johnson's picks yesterday because he had some interesting outlooks. He said.
Of course he loves Bill Mott Sovereignty. He says, that's
probably the second best horse in the race. He did,
and I want you a chunk of gold. He says,
be careful, that's his shot. He said, he likes that.

(31:32):
I'm like, how the nineteenth hole? Everybody, just like I
had told Tenneth and Pete, Sovereignty out of the eighteenth hole.
He said, what's just time for him to win out
of the eighteenth hole. That's all doesn't mean anything to them,
I said, well to history, it does, because no one's
ever won on the eighteenth slot, Anthony. But these are
horses that they really do like. You know, Kenny is

(31:54):
so funny. Guys, go ahead, go ahehead.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
And I want to cut you off here because I'm
looking at the big board right now showing Tony's top
five Kentucky Derby horses. So it's got Journalism at the
one spot at three to one, Sovereignty at five to one,
Burnham Square at twelve to one, Citizen Bull at twenty
to one, and you and you'd be surprised he was
in the five spot right now. Who's actually not even
technically in the race yet is Beza at twelve to one.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Basic just went by, Anthony. I bet you he's gonna
get in Besa just.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
He has he's got odds now so his odds are
twelve to one for out there, all those those horses
better bezas is at twelve to one, he's in top
five favorite to win a Kentucky Derby. And that is
the stilling spot of the twenty at the twenty one spot.
So at this rate we I don't know if somebody
has already automatically scratched or withdrew from the race, but
they have his live odds up now, so there's a
high possibility that Beso will be racing in Derby. There's

(32:42):
a possibility done that I guarantee, So don't sit there
in bank. But there exactly he's got. He's got odds now.
So that's the big thing.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Anthony Beza went by us fifteen minutes ago. Went Only
the Derby Oaks horses could come through the paddock, and
if people don't know, they keep all the other horses separate.
Derby and Oaks horses come out from seven to fifteen
to seven thirty seven thirty five. Then they block off
the paddock for them, and then they take them in.
Then the rest of the horses can go through their

(33:10):
paces and all horses train, but they keep them separate.
Anthony Basing the only reason he didn't qualify point wise.
He runs second in Santa Anita, but there are only
five horses Anthony, so it only gets fifty points. He
would have qualified Anthony if he would have gotten a
correct number of points instead of splitting them in half.
I like him. That's a shot people better remember, and

(33:32):
a lot of people have talked about him. So again, guys,
when it comes to gambling, I'll tell you to bet
on everybody because I don't know. It is not my money,
but I am gonna bet. I hate to say it.
Dwayne Lucas is gonna get six dollars of Jerry's's money.
That's the five horse American prompts. I'm going five. I'm

(33:55):
going I might even go five across the board on
number five. Nahn, that's a lie. I'm not doing that.
You know it's not gonna happen. I don't have those kinds.
I don't have them. My wallet just didn't feel that good.
But I am gonna bet two dollars across the board
on the five horse in the Derby Anthony. That is
gonna be my wager. Now I'm gonna put some money

(34:15):
on ken me Pete's horse because he's just a great guy,
and he'll have to break me in the next place.
I broke him into the PGA tournament last year, Anthony.
It was the funniest thing. You should have seen us
getting on the bus. He's in between my wife and I.
My wife flashes her badge. I flashed my badge. He's
in between, and we just hustle on the bus. The
old guy was like, oh, how you doing. He kind

(34:36):
of looked, but he didn't say anything. We're on the
bus because we had to go meet over at the
Embassy suites. Then we come off the bus, Anthony, straight
to the press room. You should have seen all the ladies.
Is that Kenny Pete. I'm like, yes, and he needs
a press pass. You should have seen them start to squirt.
They took off running. Yeamn, everybody bringing him press passes.

(34:56):
He had up fresh passes. But the entire community found
out we was He and Michael Eves and I did
the show and it was a great show. And then
after that we went out onto the course and enjoyed
the PGA and had a fantastic time. So anyway, we're
at seven forty eight, We're gonna go to our last
break and you're gonna come and get miss Gwynn and I.

(35:17):
We're gonna start walking that way on air so I
can tell people what we're doing and what it looks like.
So come and get us right now. Take us to Broach.
Then it's EVE Sports Radio. We're at the paddock. Please,
I don't care if it's after Derby. Come out and
look at what they've done. It's unbelievable compared to what
my dad used to see. I just wish he could

(35:40):
see it. I really do. It's Esports Radio. We'll talk
to you in a minute. Welcome back to Eve's Sports Radio. Yeah,
we don't let them see your badge. Yes, we're now
at the Champion Champions Balcony, Anthony, and now we're taking pictures. Guys.
You wouldn't believe it. You have to get out here.
It's amazing. I did not come last year above the paddock,

(36:05):
but if you can't come to step straight above the paddock, guys,
what a beautiful view. Now we're walking our way toward
the track. You should see all the large TV screens, Anthony.
It's amazing up here, what they've done at this place,
it is just fantastic. Please after Derby, make sure that
you and your family come out and enjoy what they've

(36:27):
done to this place, because it's just I say, oh,
I see what one billion dollars will do worth of renovations,
Because this right here is just magnificent. You'll enjoy it,
your kids will enjoy it. It's just it's like you're
walking around a museum, a history museum for horses, and
it's really, really, really pretty. So we're now headed toward

(36:48):
the plaza balcony, which is going to take us I
think toward the track, right Anthony, Yeah, that's correct.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
So we're gonna walk on this path around the top
of the paddocks. Now the paddocks does have a couple
of layers. It's got the main layer down where the
tracks of the horses do the walk around. Then it's
got a plausa balcony, and then it goes all the
way up where it takes you almost a section below
the rooftop, and there's a couple of stairs that should
go through. They have elevators, but they got wagering over here.
They got food, drinks, seating, everything, you name it, flashtering, TVs,

(37:19):
open bars. When I tell you it looks like a
miniature version is what's an updated Caesar's Palace up in
Roame would look like? This is similar to kind of
what it is. There's roses and flowers. The architecture is immaculate.
Whoever designed this put tons of detail into it, and
you can tell just by the simplest things that they've
done into the new part of the paddock that was

(37:40):
completed last year.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Yes, now, Anthy, I want to make sure I make
a correction. I said the last day for dawna the
Downs is tomorrow. It was today, so I want to
make that correction. You cannot come out tomorrow morning. It
is that today was the last day of dawna the
Downs and there's so many kids running around enjoying it.
I wish you would have made it out. Make sure

(38:02):
next year that you do. But it is today, Wednesday
was the last day of Dawn of the Downs. Do
not come out here tomorrow. Oh my gosh. And you
found all the back nicks and crannies at this place
the wood Reserve. I mean, it's amazing, but without a doubt,

(38:25):
I'm starting to claim Churchill Downs and Eves Racing Track.
That's crazy, but I am crazy. The backside the hustle
bustle in the neighborhood. You should see the people in
the neighborhood. You can still see that some people are
parking in their yards, and I remember that with my dad,
we would park in people's yards in front of their

(38:46):
homes and pay them fifteen or twenty dollars and come
to the track. Those things are still happening, not as much.
They've blocked off a lot of it, Anthony, but those
things are still going on. And yes, Win did.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
We've been walking up steps for about fifteen twenty seconds,
so we're working our way to the top of this place, Anthony,
My goodness.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
So this is in the new section. This is is
called the Silks Lodge, and the Silks Lodge is just
the floor above the Champions balcony and the Plaza balcony.
It goes into a very similar layout, but at this
point you can go into the Spires. Now, the Spires
is a kind of a paddock laid out area that
takes you in from dinner area dining to where you
can walk through an indoor eating facility, as well as

(39:32):
the underpass of the track. So that's where we're headed
now walking down. I was just walking up here just
looking around, just kind of because I've never been up
this far. I usually only go to the champion's falcony,
so this is the spires, terns and sweets.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Yes, we've got about thirty seconds. I'm telling you all,
I can't wait. We'll be talking to you tomorrow. I
might be half sleep tomorrow because I've got to go
to an Urban League gala tonight, but we will be
back live tomorrow. God willing, and please all. The backside
is crast. Oh gosh, I wish everyone could have this view.

(40:07):
God's good every day. It's all I'm gonna tell you all,
Esports Radio. I'm having a fantastic time. I hope we've
described it to you all. We love you all. We'll
talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye bye
