Speaker 1 (00:02):
Radys.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Welcome back to the Sports radio June the twenty fourth,
twenty twenty five, Tuesday in the Louisville area. Tuesday, also
in Panama City, Panama. My last day here, well tomorrow
is my last day, but I leave in the morning
right after the show to go to the airport to
come back to the beautiful, hot Louisville. It's warmer in
(00:25):
Louisville than it is here. Yes, we've got rain the
last three days, but we had a great time yesterday
in one of the malls, just entertained ourselves.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
But yes, the weather turned a.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Little nasty the last three or four days, tropical weather,
just a lot of rain. But we appreciate you all
sitting in with us and welcome back to the show.
Of course, I've got my cell phone number with you
all all know it. The office number is five zero two,
five seventy nine hundred. For the office that's five zero two,
five seventy nine hundred. You can find us at seven
(00:59):
nine D that is seven ninety AM kr D wkr D.
I've got shedding behind the glass and let's get going
with it. First and foremost, let me, as you can tell,
my mind's gone I'm in a fall this morning. Let
me introduce my younger son, Anthony Eves to the show. Anthony,
how are you.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
I'm doing great this morning, and we're up and moving.
I'm moving as weather. The humidity has been getting me.
I've been waiting up a little more tired every morning.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
I can feel it.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well, it is what it is. We're in a tropical climate.
But louis was on fire. Anthony, be safe. I heard
it was ninety three degrees ninety four degrees yesterday in Louisville.
I see some of the temperatures in New York City.
They're saying what the humidity is going to be raining
at about one hundred and three two hundred and seven.
So everyone be safe out there.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
That's all. Hydrate and do what you have to do
early in the day or late in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Try to stay out the sun as much as possible.
But we've got a show to do, and we have
to do it. We're going to do it. We've got
a lot to talk about, so we're going to get
to task tomorrow. I'm going to tell you all quite
a bit about my experience here in Panama City. Tell
you about the canal and a lot of the things
that we've seen about this city, but that'll be on
(02:15):
tomorrow's show. We didn't yesterday get to speak much about
the NBA Championship, and of course, congratulations to OKC, and
we'll talk about Shay Gildi's and what he's done in
his improvement. I never thought he would be this good,
but he has. And they're one of the younger teams
in the NBA to win a national championship, a world championship,
(02:37):
excuse me, and we're going to cover that, but we
have to start the entire game. Was when Halliburton went down,
I mean that was just here in Panama City. They
probably showed that a hundred times. People that were watching
got tired them, they told him to stop it.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
It just was crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Here in other countries they must have shown that injury
AE hundred.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Times over and over and over again. That's what is
going to be spoke about.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Game seven of the twenty five NBA Championship is going
to be the Achilles Taire. So I got a question
for you, Anthony, and I want our listeners to think
about this, and t I want you all to think
is very problem with the shoes I've been reading social media,
everyone has said they need to limit the games. And
(03:29):
I told Anthony when he came in here in nineteen
eighty two, I played eight NBA exhibition games. Well, I
didn't play. I played in seven. I didn't play in
the first game. I thought that I was going to
get cut. I played in eighty two regular season games.
We weren't good enough to make the playoffs se my
first year. My second year, I played all eight exhibition games,
(03:51):
all eighty two regular season games and two series the
Denver Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
We beat them two out of three.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
And then we lost to the Phoenix Suns cal Macy's
team in a seven game series.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
So the games are the same. There's no difference.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
That would have put us in the Western Conference finals,
and that would have put us in the NBA finals.
You would have played, had to play another fourteen games.
So truly they do. They have added teams. There's an
extra three games, that's all. And I've never seen the
rash of Achilles injuries that I've seen the last year.
It's been amazing, but it's picked up. Seems like every year.
(04:32):
If the old heads, the old people listening to the show,
you all well know Nate Archibald, and he was the
first player that in my recollection that I remembered popped
his achilles tendant. No one knew what it was, what
did he do, how did he injure it? How is
he going to come back? He did come back, but
he was not near the player it used to be.
A season in our career ending injury. The surgeries are
(04:56):
so much better now. Like I told you, I had
knee surgery at six and I was at home mid two.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Things have changed, but the injuries have not. It's gotten weird.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
So when you start to think about Halliburton, he wore Plumas,
Kevin Durant he wore Nikes in nineteen Jason Tatum this
year he wore Nikes. Damian Lillard he wore Adidas. Aaron
Rodgers football he wore Adidas have gone down. I've never
seen a rash like this. So I'm asking you, Anthony,
(05:28):
now that I've kind of put that out there for you.
This year alone, the NBA lost three players in the
playoffs to achilles injuries. Do you think anything with the
shoes has anything to do with this?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Necessarily, No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't put it all on
the shoes. I think it's just a lot a lot
of a lot of work and a lot of over compensation.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
But I don't think it's necessarily the shoes.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Because you can say the shoes now, but when you play,
the shoes were worse, shoes the worst side. I'm not
gonna sity and blame the shoes and shoes are better
than you know, this.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Technology is a lot better now, you know.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
I think it's one of those things and I hate
to say it, you know, I think it's just a
lot of games.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
It's a lot of games.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
There's not a real off season for these players, so
you know they go in the off season, they're all
for a week or two than a lot of them
getting right, look get ready for Olympics, World Cups, different
trainings that they do off season, you know, runs that
they do with other NBA players preseason. Then comes sneaks
up on you right around the corner in a month
or two. It's just there's just no off time. It's
(06:29):
almost like how we talk about AAU basketball and then
kids playing in high school sports is there's not a
lot of breaks because there's high school kids that tear
their acl more than the NBA players is back in
the eighties and the nineties, and that's one hundred percent true.
There's more ACO tears, ankle injuries. You know, my buddy
case In prior for U of l Toria's ACL. These
guys are only twenty twenty one years old and they
get injured left and right, and it's you know, and
(06:52):
I'm not sitting here in the good blaming the players.
I think it's just the time of day and the
style of basketball that we play in now, there's just
a lot of injuries. And I'm not saying it's a
good thing, but it's just currently how it's been going
over the last ten to fifteen years.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Everything's starting to ramped up. Because even when I played
in high school, someone tearing their ACL was kind of rare.
It didn't you didn't.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
I didn't see ACL tears even when I played in
high school. It was a little bit more in common
in college between twenty fifteen and twenty nineteen. But high school,
even when my brother played, no one tore their ACL.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
If they tore their ACL, you.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Were like, you were surprised. You're like, oh my god,
this is crazy. But ACL tears now, like they'll be fine.
They'll be back in November.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
They teared in March, they'll be back good to go.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
We see an achilles tear. A lot of these players
are bouncing back. Some of them are performing better. Kevin
Durant's one of the few.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
You know.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Damian lille could come back and still be okay. Jason
Tatums to cool come back. Tyres Aliburton, Tyres Haliburton. Halliburton
could come back and still be fine. He's only twenty
five years old. And it's a different time of day
where these injuries aren't career ending or as drastic as
they used to see them anymore.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
That's a fact.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
But the bottom line is any the games haven't changed,
and I never took off.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
I may have taken off a week and a half.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
In between the NBA regular season and start to play again.
I just don't understand one thing that someone has put
out there.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Can it have something to do with low cut tennis shoes?
Low cut? So I didn't know I played.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
High tops y'all, but you all, I've seen pictures of
y'all playing.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
But I just don't.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
I mean, we always Anthony a ninety percent of the
time as a pro player. I wore low cut shoes
in high school. I did wear a low cut adiat
it's the ones that I'm walking around in.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
You gotta remember, even.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
When ESPN did the Sports size, everybody talking about low
cut shoes or a higher possibility of rolling your ankle
because that's fat.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
When they find out side to do that, it's not true.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yes, people hurt their ankles more.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Than high tops of the low tops.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
What about taped ankles? Are the players taping their ankles
they do?
Speaker 1 (08:46):
See, I know what.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
That's a topic for me for antape ankle tape that
I'm not sure about, because yes, it helps you prevent injuries.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
But at the same time, I still think ankle tape
compensates a lot for the ligaments and the small tenons
in your in your knees, because when you put that
tape on there and then you play and you practice
without it at all, there's a huge drastic difference. Your
stabilizer muscles don't have to work as much when you
put tape on, you know, And that's just one of
those things you're like, well, they're gonna roll and it
hurts worse. Ankle tapes on there, Yes, but if you
(09:15):
roll your ankle.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Even with ankle tape on.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
It still hurts and you're still gonna roll it. It's
not gonna make that much of a difference. But when
you have those stabilizer and muscles don't work as much
because you always got help and support around it. As
soon as the ankle tape starts to wear it down
throughout a game or your practice one day and you
don't have the ankle tape on, it's so much easier.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
To get hurt.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
And I feel like that's a I'm not saying that's
a fact, but that's my opinion.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
It's so much easier to get hurt and you don't have.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
It on there.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Well, everyone says that strained calf muscles they do know now,
Anthony is the first level of your getting ready to
pop your achilles. And you'll see that players now from
here on out that have strained calfs will not play.
Halliburton knew he had a strained calf. He chose to play.
He said he would play again even after the injury.
(10:01):
The organization knew that strained calf muscles can lead to
achilles tears. So again, we've got to be very very
careful with the athletes. Now I used to call them soft,
but we're gonna have to be very careful with your sons,
your daughters when they have these.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Strain calf muscles.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
They must They're gonna have to make sure that they
get off and the rest of that calf because a
strained calf does lead to these Achilles tears. So we're
gonna go to break. We're gonna stay on task at
six sixteen. When we come back, we're gonna stay with
the same subject. We're gonna get into Shake Gillick's Alexander
MVP leading points for June to twenty fourth, twenty twenty five,
(10:46):
Panama City, Panama, fantastic time. You must make a visit here.
That's all that I can tell you. Tomorrows show I
will really elaborate on that. Let's get into the MVP.
I want you all to listen to after the game
when they're talking will take Yetiga's Alexander playing for me,
Shannon for the.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
First time in twenty five years, the same player one
the regular season MVP, the scoring title, and now he's
your finals MVP. Shake Elvis, Alexander.
Speaker 6 (11:42):
Shay, You've always said that you wanted to be that
guy that your team depended on and now you're an
NBA Finals MVP. How are you made for this moment?
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (11:52):
A lot of hard work, a lot of hours in
the gym. This isn't just a win for me. This
is a win for my family. It's a win for
my friends. This is the win for everybody that was
in my corner growing up.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
This is a win for the fans.
Speaker 7 (12:03):
The best fans in.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
The world love you.
Speaker 6 (12:09):
Not so long ago, say this is a twenty two
win team. So what does it mean to you now
to be standing here as a champion.
Speaker 7 (12:18):
Yeah, it means everything. That's why you played a sport.
You played a sports to win. You play every sports
to win. We have a team full of competitors. You know,
we did what it took this year to be champions,
and we deserved this. We roasted a moment and here
we are.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
And now you and Jalen Williams will forever be linked
as one of the most prolific duos in NBA Finals history.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
What is that most?
Speaker 6 (12:45):
What is thatt the most to you about being able
to have this ride with your co star jadumb.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Yeah, Jalen Williams.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
Is once in a time player like Will and so
one second song, one second song without him, without his performances,
without his big time moments, when all his big time
sean making, defending everything he brings to this seat. We
don't win this championship. This is just as much my
(13:21):
MVP as it is his. And no, we'll share this
one for a very long time. Like you said, we're atching,
we're sketching the book forever. The Dub's a winner, for sure,
it's a winner.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Thank you, Congratulations, Thanks Shannon So again.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Congratulations to shake Yield Exa Alexander, former Kentucky Wildcat.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
But here's the question.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Because Anthony is one of the youngest teams to win
an NBA championship, I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Give you a list of the top six.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Nineteen seventy six seventy seven Portland Trail Bay Blazers average
age was twenty four point nine, The twenty four to
twenty five thunder average age twenty five point seven, the
nineteen fifty five fifty six Warriors average age twenty six
point two, the nineteen fifty four fifty five Nationals average
(14:08):
age twenty six point five, meyer the nineteen seventy eighty
Lakers average age twenty six point five and then of
course the nineteen seventy seventy one Bucks with Kareem average
age twenty six point seven.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
So again everyone's saying the Thunder anthing.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
We're going to go down as one of the all
time greats, and they expect them to repeat.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
So here's my question. Has it been a repeat.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Champion in Ndiana a long time? We had the Raptors
in nineteen, we had the Lakers and the Bubble in
twenty We've had the Bucks in twenty one, we had
Golden State in twenty two, we had the Nuggets in
twenty three, we had the Celtics in twenty four, now
the Thunder and twenty five. I'm handing it to you.
Do you think first that this Thunder team will go
(14:55):
down as an all time grape And second, do you
believe they repeat, you.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Know, as an all time great team? That is something
I can't say only time hotel in that case. You know,
obviously this championship was good. Well I say it was
it the hardest road for them to win the championship.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
No, not really. You know, they beat I mean they
did beat notable teams.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
They beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.
Even though a lot of these teams, this is one
of those situations.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Like did okay, see look.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
That good or do these other teams really look that bad?
Because some of the games were complete blowouts.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
You know. I feel like the Timberwolves like they had
no chance. They're playing against two players pretty much.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
The Indiana Pacers put up their best fight against them,
even against all the teams that they played against in
the West as well, and they played well even in
Game seven without their star players. So I think they
have a strong contention to make a run. But there
are still teams I think in the West are gonna
give them a lot of problems. I think the East
kind of is what it is. We always know the
teams that are kind of coming out the East. Boston,
(15:57):
New York, Cleveland's contender now in and Pacers have been
the Eastern Conference finals the last two.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Years in a row.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
The Miami Heat always makes strong pushes in the playoffs.
So out of you know, those five teams, you kind
of know what you're gonna get from the East. The
West is more of a toss up. Obviously, a lot
of the trades have been happening. Obviously, the draft coming
around even tomorrow. A lot of the young guys are
going to these teams that them getting a number one
through a ten draft picks slot is dangerous for them.
Betweens like San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Those are teams that are getting good selections in the
draft coming dock and that are still dangerous teams even
from last year. Small trades and free agency and small
improvements in the draft can make a drastic difference. And
we were talking about looking at the sheet that we
actually saw on ESPN where the contending teams even for
the twenty five to twenty six NBA season.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Okay, okay, see is.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Still in that number one spot in Cleveland's still number
one on that east side to come out of there,
but you still have.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
New York up there.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Denver Knovics is always gonna still try to make a
strong push with Nakole yok which I think they'll make
some offseason moves as well, because they know they have
to to have a chance. Obviously, the Houston Rockets are
team now obviously with the signing of Kevin Durant, Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Boston tel Sticks are still up there.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Obviously, Jason Tatum's gonna be coming off that achilles tear
as well, so he'll be out, if not majority of
this season, the entire season.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Indiana Pacers are gonna be in another.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Struggle boat as well, without Halliburton as well, So they're
in the same boat kind as the Bucks.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
I mean as the Bucks, as the Celtics. I apologize,
And obviously the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Golden State Warriors is still a team that makes a
push to Lakers. It's hard to just count the West
out because they have so much firepower over there.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Anyone can kind of pull it off. And I think even.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
From a topic that we talked about yesterday, I just
don't see them getting away with the SGA push off
and dislodging players as much next season.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Well they still let him do.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
It, yes, but it's not gonna be as efficient and
as many times they usually do.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Because a lot of players all.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Have their signature move, they kind of gets them to
their positions to get consistent scoring. That way, that's what
makes them so much special. So special can paired to
a lot of other NBA players. A lot of people
even said it with James Harden when he was doing
a lot of push offs. He started starting doing the
euro step, his side step that he started implementing. The
one thing I will give James Harden credit is is
that even when they kind of patched a move that
(18:13):
he did like to do, you found a new one
that was officient enough for him to still score and
still be in.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
That all star caliber player.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
It's jay.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
I love it, Ja because I think he's got incredible
size LEMP upside to be only you know, twenty four
to twenty five years old, but he's gotta find I
just saw the push off too much for my liking.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
That's the only problem.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
It's like in situations when they guard him well and
he got stuck. The push offf was there just every time.
It was never you know, not saying a side step,
but there's just never going in there getting a good floater,
you know, a step back off the glass. But the
step back is just a push off seven out.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Of ten times. And I hate to say it.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Everybody's had secures.
Speaker 7 (18:50):
You move.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
We have to wait and see.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
As for an all time great god Lee, I just
can't believe that they've thrown.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
That out there yet.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
That's just I would say to say that for all
the talking heads, if they win two out of three,
I'm not even saying back to back. But when you
say all time great, it's like where did we get
How did we get here? But we got there quickly
because of the age of the team. So I wanted
to make a comparison. I said, I want to go
back and look at the Lakers, one of the younger
(19:20):
teams nineteen seventy nine eighty A Norman Nixon, good basketball player,
cream up to a Jabbar, a great basketball player, maybe
I say, in my opinion, the greatest offensive threat, because
he had a shot that could not be stopped, the
sky hook. He could shoot an eighteen foot skyhook from
(19:42):
the right corner, which he did to break the scoring
record when I was playing in Las Vegas. It was
an eighteen foot sky hook. It was an unstoppable shot.
It has never been replicated. It's not no one has
duplicated it. No one can do what Kareem Abdul Jabbar
has done. You see Michael Jordan, You've seen Kobe Bryant.
(20:05):
We've seen Oscar Robinson to George mcguinnis to Lebron James.
Players are getting bigger stronger, faster, but you've never seen
anyone shoot like Kaream did.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
So.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Of course Cream was on that team. Michael Cooper, great
defensive player, was on the team. Magic Johnson, sixt' nine
point guard was on that team, Jamal Wilkes, Spencer Haywood.
I mean they had great players in eighty one. After
winning it, they add James Worthy. That was a super team.
The Boston Celtics were a super team with Larry Bird,
(20:36):
Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Dennis Johnson, I mean, all Hall
of famers.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Danny Ainge.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Danny Ainge was not a Hall of Famer, but the
other ones were. I just I have to wait a
little bit. I want people to slow their role on
all time great. Let's let the Thunder play this season out.
Next season, people will be.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Gunning for them. We're gonna see how they perform. People
will be after them.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
As you've said, Anthony, this is the first time that
they've played to the end of June. Guys, it's a
long season, short rehab. We'll not be able to rest
as long. We'll not be able to let their bodies
come back. So we'll see what happens next year. We'll
have to see if they can stay away from the
injury bug has plagued so many of these teams. And again,
(21:19):
I'm just looking at this NBA as a whole. We
always talk about the playoffs. I don't mess with the
regular season much. But the bottom line is Haliburton goes
down in the playoffs, Tatum goes down in the playoffs,
Lillard goes down in the playoffs, all with achilles injuries.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
That is just unheard of. It's just unheard of.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
We knew that Kevin Durant went down in twenty nineteen,
but we've had three go down in a month and
a half. Kobe Bryant, of course went down to an achilles,
but we had three players here to their achilles in
three weeks. I've just never seen that, all with different shoes.
Like you say, high top, low top. It doesn't make
(22:04):
a difference. Tape not taped. I'm sure they were taped.
Will you know one thing, strain calf muscles means shut
yourself down because it leads without a doubt too these
achilles tears, which I just can't believe the rash that
we've had.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
So we're at seven.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Thirty one in Louisvile. We're gonna stay close to task.
We're gonna cut and go to break when we come back.
The most controversial thing is Lebron James at All time Great.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
We'll talk about it after the break.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Welcome back to the Sports Radio June twenty fourth, twenty
twenty five, Panama City, Panama. Yes, it is six thirty
four here, seven thirty four in louisvill I will be
back tomorrow. We'll be traveling. I will not be on.
There will be a best on on Thursday. Hopefully we'll
be back with you on Friday if we have no
glitches in the travel, but we will not be live thirsty.
(22:57):
We will be traveling, trying to make our way back,
trying to get some sleep. We get in I think
Wednesday night at twelve at night, so I'm hoping everything
goes smoothly. But I'm not going to try to jump
up Thursday morning and entertain you all to speak about
what's going on. But Lebron James all time great, first
and foremost. I wanted one to know. The talking heads
(23:18):
have put that out about the great greatest team ever
with the Thunder not the Thunder. You didn't hear anyone
hear them saying we're gonna repeat. You didn't hear the
things that you've heard from other players will be back
next year.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
You did not hear that.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
You just heard a humble shake gillis Alexander with an
accomplishment that is unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
I just didn't think that Kit was.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
That good, and he is, and he's gonna have a
chance to repeat next year. It hasn't happened in a
long time in the NBA, Guys, it just has not happened.
The Celtics didn't even make the Eastern Conference finals this year.
The Nuggets, who won two years ago, didn't reach the
Western Conference Finals this year. Golden State, who won it
in twenty twenty two, they were lucky to get in
(24:00):
the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I mean they had to play in the play in game. Guys.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
The Bucks twenty twenty one, we all know that Giannis
is leaving. They haven't been back since, so repeating is
very very different. The Lakers and the Bubble in twenty
twenty and the Raptors in twenty nineteen. Come on with
Leonard playing well the last time he played well, So
repeating is really hard to do. I don't I'm not
(24:24):
gonna pick the Thunder. I'm just not not to repeat.
We have to wait and see how the season starts.
But I do like the way that they've handled themselves.
They've carried themselves. Pressing the general manager of the Thunder,
you have to give him a lot of credit for
building that team.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
They are young, they do.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Have capital, and they do have draft picks, so they
have a chance to get better. That's the one reason
people are talking about okay see in such a manner
is because they've got great draft picks and they've got money.
They're in control of their roster at this time. It's
not going to be that way forever, but they do.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
It this time.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
So congrat relations to the Thunder. Now let's get to it.
Any bottom line, Lebron James, I am.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Not a fan. He is a great player, yes he is.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
He's in the top five all time, but he loves
to put himself in the gold category. A lot of people,
he does have a lot of fans out there that
believe he's in the gold category. I just don't. So
I'm gonna throw it to you. I want you to
give me the pros. I want you to try to
sell me even though I know you're not a Lebron fan,
but sell me on Lebron James forty two thousand, one
(25:36):
hundred and eighty four points, number one in the NBA.
He has got eleven five and eighty four assists. I
think he ranks fifth or six, excuse me, fourth in
the NBA and assist. He is shocked as a career
over fifty percent from the field, which is great. I'm
not I can't knock that. That's great. He shot fifty
(25:57):
point six for a career, that's right. He shot thirty
four point nine from the three point line. Guys, that's
more than adequate. That's thirty five percent. Thirty three beats
fifty the two. So giving you the stats, Anthony, he
has performed. He's played a long time, his longevity. I've
(26:18):
told everybody your greatest feel is availability. Lebrian James has played. Now,
he hasn't played as many games consecutively like Michael Jordan did,
but he has played.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
He's been relatively healthy throughout his career, so.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
I've got to give him credit for that.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
But that's all.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Tell me on why Anthony, people think he's the gope.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
I mean, it's a hard debate to not put him
in the one two conversation.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
I hate to say it, if it's hard.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
To not put him possibly at one. I mean everyone
was saying it's always Jordan, and I agree.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
I like Jordan a lot too. It's it's a hard
it's a hard argument.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
But the same time, you go from points, he's number
one all the time, you go to assist he's top five.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
You go to field goal percent.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
In his longevity of seasons, he's played the longest career
of any NBA player ever. He's almost I don't think
he's ever averaged the season below twenty points of game,
except for maybe his rookie year. You know, he's got correct,
he's got four NBA Finals, he's got multiple MVPs. I
think the only thing he doesn't have is a Defensive
Player of the Year. I think it's the only thing
that he might be missing that I think that Jordan
(27:24):
has over him, and Jordan's gotta beat by two rings.
But if you're just going off of based off rings,
then Jordan's not the goat them, which is a hard debate.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
You can't just basically strictly off of rings. Every other
Accolade center for defensive player of the year. He's got
Jordan beat.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
You know, Jordan, you know, kind of retired early, then
came back a little bit and played. But even Jordan
later in his age, Michael Jordan was terrible when he came.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
Back and played for the Whickers. I'm sorry, he wasn't good.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
If you play Michael Jordan played Lebron James at the
same agean Camicks career, Michael Lebron probably would.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Have averaged forty on them. I'm just gonna be completely honest.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
So it's one of those things is what makes you
not put Lebron in the goat category because you can't
say it's off for statistics.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
You can't say it's off rings like he doesn't have any.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
You can't be like, oh, well Jordan changed the game,
Well Lebron did too, and and you know, if Lebron
played in that era, we could be saying something completely
different and same thing vice versus with Jordan.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
I think if Lebron played back then he's still be
a dominant player. He's six eight two sixty.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Jordan was dominated at six six to ten, so it's
not like, oh, he can't play with the physicality. Everybody
adapts and changes different to their play styles, and I
do believe that. I think if he played back then
Lebron would be a lot more physical. If you know,
he could just foul and tackle people. Lebron would kill
Michael Jordan because he probably truck him. He probably kill him.
He probably put him in the basket a lot. I'm sure,
completely honest. You know, the athleticisn't for both of them,
(28:41):
is there? They both got Fortis verticals. It's not like
he's gonna be pinning the shot off the backpoint every
time he shoots. So in what debate, it's kind of
be like, well, what's Michael Jordan above him? Because he
has he had a beggar legacy. Possibly you know, his
run his multiple back toback championships with the Chicago Bulls
was good. But at the same time when he did
come in in the eighties, he was losing left and
write a ton. So everybody hates Lebron's record in the finals.
(29:03):
His his finals record is subpar. I will say that
that's that's the only thing you can really throw on
His finals record is subpar, But he has played crazy
competition in the finals. I will say that the only
one I think that it wasn't just crazy crazy competition.
Is when they played the Dallas Mavericks in twenty eleven, Dirknwicks, Ski,
Jason Terry, Sewan Marrion.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
I think, you know, that team to win the finals,
they really got.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Beat by one player and some role player he did
Dirk killed and they got killed by one player, munch
of role players. Nobody else on that team is a
Hall of Famer. Nobody Nobody on that team I think
barely even cracked an All Star maybe Sean Marrion a
couple of times. That's That's the best championship I think
in modern basketball over the last forty years is Drkwicks.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
He's championship run.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
He played the best competition and beat one of the
best teams in NBA basketball history, hands by himself. And
other than that, I will I know, I don't want
to sit there and give Lebron, you know, like he's
just the benefit of the doubt. But he did play
a seven three nine Golden State Warriors state team. He
played team with Kevin Durant, He played the Splash Brothers
multiple times.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Then even in the East, he still had to play
Gihnis in the Bucks. No, he's he's had tough runs.
I will give him credit.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
He had better teams, so it's hard to be like, oh,
we're compensating.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
For that he had. He's had good teams. He's built
his teams.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
He wasn't the first one to start the Big three.
Boston did that. We all know he did Boston that
when they did Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo.
That was a Big three they started off, and Lebron
wanted to be able to just compete. And I completely
understand it. You know other teams are doing it. If
they're doing it, nobody's can playing in their winning championship.
Why not do the same thing. He did that with
d Wade and Chris Boshton in Miami. Got two rings
(30:41):
that in there out of I think out of what.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Four three years?
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Four years, So.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Yeah, they had an efficient run down there on a
new team is a very very high rate.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
So you know, at it's it's a tough situation. It's
a it's a yes and no type of deal.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Me personally, I just did it right.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Everybody's a Jordan guy. Here's the deal with Lebron. He
was a great player. His body is phenomenal, athleticism is phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
He's big, strong and fast. It's just what comes along
with him.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
And that's the thing that he doesn't understand. And I
want younger players to watch. When Mike was getting beat Anthony,
and I mean the Detroit Pistons, beat him down, beat
him up, beat him down, the Boston Celtics when he
gave him sixty three, same thing handed him a loss.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
All Mike did was went back to work. He went
back to work.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
He never left, He never threatened to leave, He never
asked more players. They built it through the draft. They
brought to Scottie Pittman that no one knew Anthony. He
wasn't a big name player. They just did it through
the draft. They kept working. He built his team, He
pushed the players around him. He won three championships in
a row before he steps down. He does that twice
the second time. Anthony is the reason why I make
(32:05):
him the goat, because we just read about teams repeating.
There hasn't been a repeat in the NBA in a
long time. He retires, Anthony plays golf, gets away after
his father dies, gets away from the game, and comes back.
He's not as athletic, but he repeats again three times.
Everyone says that if they didn't have the fallout with
(32:26):
Jerry Krause, who was the general manager and the team,
Scottie Pippen wanted.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
To leave that he said they thought they could have
won four.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
But Phil Jackson was leaving. Everyone was leaving. It just
happened to happen. It just fell apart. Maybe the pressure
of winning the fourth sent everybody away. That's all it
could have been. Jordan Phil Jackson. There's a lot of
pressure when you repeat, repeat, repeat, but doing it twice
is the reason why he's the goat. Now you're correct,
(32:54):
Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics, they are the goat.
The only reason Bill was one of the most dominant
defensive players ever to play the game period.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
He had a great team.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Sam Jones, John Haletchick, Sanders, Casey Jones. I mean they
were the most dominant franchise UCLA and college basketball, the
Boston Celtics and the NBA, no question about it. After
you get to that. Tommy Hinsen has eight that's a Celtic.
(33:28):
But Anthony Robert Horry's got seven rings. People don't even
know who Robert Hory is really good friend of mine
seven rings and big shot Robert Horry. Robert Horriy just
wasn't sitting on a team. Robert Horry was hitting big
shots to win championships. Another sixty eleven jump shot shooter,
great guy Frank Ramsey's seven championships.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
People don't know who he is.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan had six, three and three.
That's why Scotty goes down in the top ten, Anthony,
because they went three in a row in a row
in the modern day era. You know, I know, I
know everybody hates Scotti and I understand he quit. He
quit on his team.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
One you know.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Would not have quit honest him, and he did when
Michael stepped down and they did not run and play
for him. He did quit on his team, which I'm
not gonna cover for him. If he wouldn't have done
that and damaged his image. He was one of the best.
You said it the other day, two way players to
ever played to fence and defense players.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
All if you changed twenty players right now, Scotty Pippens.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
Not to him.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
I agree with that, I agree, but he's still got
six rings. So when we're talking about rings, if you're
only talking about rings, which you say we're not, and
Lebron says he's not now because he's not gonna get
another one.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
I don't care how long, because I can pull a
bench player from the Boston soviects. No, we're only talking
about great degree.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
But Kobe Bryant five rings, Derek Fisher who played with
the Lakers, five rings, Magic Johnson five rings. So Anthony,
when you start to look at the ring category, we
know what the Celtics have done. Then after that, we
know what the Bulls have done with two, three, three
(35:16):
straight consecutive runs. That's why the Bulls sit high and
Michael Jordan sits at the top end because he came
back and did it with the same group of guys
three times in a row.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Again, that's the same thing you talked about even a
few days ago.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
You're saying we're only based in success off the championship rings.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Now, well, I'm not if you want to say throwing
the points where we know Michael Jordan's scored or be
in that. No, No, I'm talking you back in the season.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
That's I mean, Lebron, you can't hate a player for
being you can't.
Speaker 7 (35:50):
You can't.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
But I'm still but playing longer means he should have
won four chips.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Like playing as six chips played less.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
Not not necessarily because I mean, I hate to say
it's Steph Curry is coming in year seventeen.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
He's got four.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
You think Steph Currey is gonna get another one? Probably not,
But I love periods exactly. But at the same time,
so you're like, oh, well, that's when Steph played twenty seasons,
only got four.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
Steph suck. No, it's not not so not so let go.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
We're not saying, see, you've taken me to the we're
talking about that. Don't care. We're talking about the best.
That's a man.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Steph Curry is a good Hey. Let me tell you,
I forget all y'all.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Let me tell you I'm gonna be honest. We're gonna
get the break.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
I'm a Curry man, and there's no question he's I
hate those things he's done to the game because he's
got players shooting shots they can't shoot. But he is remarkable,
a normal sized human being for what he's done and
has four championships. It's East Words Radio. When we come back.
The draft is tomorrow, don't forget that, guys. Exciting time
(36:51):
for young players. We're gonna talk about the draft after
the break, Radio seven fifty one. You should be at work,
get there, be safe, have a wonderful day. I'm getting
ready to give you my top two teams of all
time in the NBA. A lot of people are gonna
hate me, but I don't care. I'm gonna start with
the point guard. First team. Point guard is only one
(37:12):
in only one, Magic Johnson. My two guard, without a
doubt is Michael Jordans, my three, My three is Lebron James.
(37:36):
My four is Tim Duncan, My five is Kareem abdul Jabbar.
My second team, my point guard is John Stockton. My
two guard Steph Curry. My three is Kevin Durant, My
four is Karl Malone. My five is NICKA Cale joking.
(37:59):
Those are my top teams. People are gonna be upset
with that, but it is what it is. Those are
my top two of all time. Any now you've got
your chance top two teams all time, top two.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
What I already know if my my point guard Steph Curry,
I'm not going to Magic Johnson. Sorry, I just I'm
just not I like Magic Johnson. But I'm just not
crazy over him. Stephen Curry at my one.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Just remember what we said about Game seven at nineteen
years old.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Man ain't pump, I don't magic do that. Don't change
nothing from me.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
And that's thirteen May numbers. It's never even put.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Up any and so it's and so it's that, and
so is Steph Curry.
Speaker 7 (38:40):
One game.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
No, but about one game what he mattered.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
He went on the road Game six, How younask my
top ten? And then you I'm talking, this is my
top ten, not yours. No one cares about magic.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Nobody's ever done that ever. As a nineteen year old
in the Nubia.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Go ahead, I find he's like he can have that game.
I'm I'm saying, Madge's not good. I'm just not putting
them on my first team. I got Stephen Curry at
the one, Kobe Bryant at the two, Michael Jordan at
the three. I'd have to put Lebron at my four.
I probably go Kareem at the five. Second team would
be Magic Johnson at the one, Larry Bird at my two,
(39:18):
Kevin Durant at the three. I'd probably put Honestly, I
probably go big man. I probably with Bill Russell at
the four and the keem Elijah one at the five.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
And Anthony I had a brain. I lost my mind.
I don't know how I said, Lebron James. What lb
My three man is Larry Bird. Let me have correct
Lebron James.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
You heard it right.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
You heard it here on the sports radio. Lebron James
at the three.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
Absolutely no way, excuse me. I lost my mind.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
My three man written down on my list is Larry Bird.
Take that Lebron James off. I have no idea. It
looks like hell that Larry Bird.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
That's that Jake.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Lb O, LBJ, s J LBJ.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Lebron James is not on my first or second team.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
I'm sorry. That's Larry Bird.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Look, I know you don't like him, but you know
he's on the first or second team.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I put him on my first second team. I take
Kim Durrant before he met the three.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Kevin Durant would kill Lebron.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Lebron will No, Lebron would kill Kevin Durant said, scoring
Cavin Durant a better score.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
But all around you we saw what happened.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
When when when Kadie gets by himself sometimes that's why
he hops him.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
He's on fifteen eighteen seasons.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
Lebron's been. Lebron's been on three, but one of them
he went back.
Speaker 4 (40:40):
Just to give Cleveland championships.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
So I mean he just got he wanted to get
marn as soon as he want to ring there he left.
It was he went there for just to just get
knock one off the achievement.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Books draft what we had and before we get from Yeah, well.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
We got a lot of got a lot of young
guys out here and a lot of my do guys.
When we got three in the top ten, you know,
I can just round the falls and clap my hands
because you know, I wish we could have got the
job done. We folded in the final four, which still
it doesn't really irk me, but it's just like it
kind of is what it is with Duke. You know,
the young guys always make it far. We just can't
(41:17):
get all the way over the home. We get to
the top of the hill and run.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Out of gas.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
We've done it multiple times over different seasons.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
It's hard to it's hard to do.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
That's why I like with young kids, so like, oh
they got the best recruiting class. I'm like, you're trying
to move with a bunch of seventeen and eighteen year olds,
and back in the day you had a little bit more,
say because you know, the teams are in as old.
They're playing twenty one twenty two year old seniors, not
twenty six year old seniors. So it's a little bit
more of an uphill climb than it is now. In
the next couple of years, I think it'll go back
(41:46):
to normal once and get all.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
The COVID players out.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
The kids will start graduating again at twenty two years old,
not twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
So you'll see a lot of these younger classes.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Of kids coming out of high school have a better
chance to compete. But there's a lot of teams that
got good projections coming out. Obviously Dalla that one getting
Cooper Flagg. San Antonio, who was a young teammate of
Push last year, is supposed to get the number two
pick with Dylan Harper as Bailey is slid even though
he's on here three, he slid toward He's projected seven
now because he doesn't want to go third to Philly,
which I don't understand.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
So vjed VJ.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Edgecomb has jumped up into the third spot to Philly.
They got Jeremiah Fears going to Washington. I think with
the four or five pick, Trey Johnson from Texas, who
was phenomenal last year as a as a freshman, Caspris
Jackcuniis from Illinois was a good point guard sixty six.
I think he struggled under a lot of ball pressures.
That's the only thing that kind of iffy about everything else.
(42:36):
I think it was phenomenal. I think it was a
phenomenal ball handler. Seeing the floor well scoring, they think
he's another Halliburn.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
When they got in his pockets a little bit, I
saw him kind of folding unravel a lot.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
And then you got Common Mala Walk from Duke at
the number eight slot, con Canoople at nine as well
from Duke University.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
All right, and then obviously a lot of young guys.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Know what the crazy thing is.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Not as many foreigners on here as time as there
usually is at the seven. You know, from fourteen seventeen
to eighteen is three players all from France. And then
twenty two twenty three we got Spain and got a
kid from Greece, but we only got four foreigners in
the first round this year. Usually we got some of
the lottery picks that like they take those wild cards,
but no wild cards this year really, not only one
inside the lottery pick for wild cards for foreigners.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
This is the Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (43:21):
We'll be back with you tomorrow morning.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Hopefully we get some sunny weather here on our last
thing and doesn't rain us out, but we'll catch you
all tomorrow at seven am.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
Y'all have a blessed one e Sports Radio out
