Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Eve's Sports Radio. It is Monday, August
the fourth, twenty twenty five. I did say August the fourth,
thirty one days in this month also, and then after
that it's a slippery slope straight to Christmas. Welcome back
to eve Sports Radio. For numbers five zero, two, five seven, one,
(00:21):
seventy nine hundred. This is Sports Talk seven ninety KRD.
We've got the one and only best producer in the country,
Shannon behind the glass. I was going to come in
studio with you, Shannon. I'm in my office at one
thousand South Wourth Street at Simmons College. I said I
didn't want to come in, Shannon, because I may have
made you a little nervous. If you saw me walking
in the hallway, you may have thought it was the
(00:43):
day that we were gonna have to lock up, Shannon.
So I let you slide, Shannon, just so you'll know.
But we got Channa behind the glass. He is the best.
And I don't care what Blandon says. I still got
my body part. Shannon has not pulled me apart yet. Channon.
We got the young kid though. Let's bring on. He's
gonna have something to say about my comments like always,
(01:04):
let's bring on my youngest son. Anthony's welcome to the show.
How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
You don't want to think, good morning. But I'm not
gonna let you jump the plot on that one. So
I'm not gonna say anything this morning. I'm gonna be
quiet and just sit back and relax. I'll get you
later on the show. I gotta keep you on your toes.
A little unexpected, he'd like to say the least.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Okay, Shannon is mighty cool and calm with it. He
doesn't seem to be too nervous, Anthony, that's all. But
that's okay. Rocky does come back. There's a true Rocky
out there, Anthony. That's all I'm telling you. So anyway, guys,
we're waiting for that one and only. And we know
George Williams he made his agent maybe talking to my agent.
That's talking to NBCCBS Alhart, who knows. But George will
(01:47):
be calling in soon and Shannon will let us know.
So we're gonna get directly to the show. Anthony. All
I know is this weekend I went out to the
car show. I went out on Saturday, and I had
company in town. We had a great time. Wayne and Sheila,
yes the same name as your mother, came in from Greensboro,
(02:07):
North Carolina, and he builds cars and it was his
first hot rod National Street Rods in National and Anthony.
He had a wonderful time. And when I'm telling you all,
if you have not gone out to the fair grounds
for that event on that Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, you
(02:28):
are missing a tree. Anthony. It's unbelievable. These cars refurbished,
Some are original manufactured, original parts, and some Anthony, like,
I interviewed a gentleman that had a fifty three truck
that had a twenty eighteen Camaro engine and frame on it,
(02:53):
and it was citing the old nineteen fifty three trucks,
was sitting on it. Just beautiful. I mean, the things
they've done to these cars are magnificent. Thing just reminiscing it.
I found my dad's sixty eight Nover. I was looking
at it, Anthony, and I could see myself. It's a
two door. You will crawling in the back of it, Anthony,
(03:13):
I could say, I remember myself crawling in the back
of the nineteen sixty eight over. So when it went
round Anthony Martin's a square sixty seven sixty six. They
were square, then they went with a round. They looked
like a large bug, but really attractive cars. I remember
myself climbing in it. Anthony. There was a nineteen seventy
(03:35):
three Catalina. People probably don't even remember these names, Oh
people do. That was my dad's next car. I thought, oh,
we had stepped up to the big time. Catalina. Beautiful, Anthony,
I could just reminisce. It's just I didn't see one
of my blow up pental wagons though I did not
(03:55):
see that. Anthony, Martin Dunbar Cheer Huncle and myself both
had blow up into wagons. I'm telling you. Mine had
a CB antenna drilled in the top, Anthony, I'm telling
at University Louisville, we used to pile in that thing
my first one and sophomore year. It would break down
on us halfway to the games, to the fair grounds. Anthony.
(04:16):
The truth, I mean it was the days. I didn't
see one of those, but I saw all the other ones,
and oh, just nostalgia was Anthony. People need to go out.
It will make you remember your childhood. That's all that
I'm telling you. You remember you will see the car
that your dad owned, that you thought was the nicest.
(04:38):
That's when, Anthony, there was one car in the driveway.
Does anyone remember that? Does anybody remember one car in
the driveway, Anthony, that's all, not three, not four, not
one car. And we thought, boy, we had a car
in the driveway. Anthony. I know, people, I know I'm
showing my age and people have forgotten. But there was
(04:59):
a day, Anthony when there was just one car in
the driveway. Not multiple cars, not kids cars, none of that,
just one car in the driveway. Thought we were rich.
So anyway, it was a great show. Dave Huber was
telling you all the truth. Ten to twelve thousand cars
from every state come on, Anthony, and the District of
(05:23):
Columbia come on. An just amazing, just amazing what was there.
And the people were just so nice. It was just
a fantastic, beautiful time. So anyway, if you haven't make
it out next year, that's all our parents. I'm not
even telling you to take your kids, take yourself, because
(05:43):
you will remember climbing in the backseat of the car
that your dad owned. You remember it, just the good
old days. And next year you have to go I'm
being honest with you. You have to make it because it's
just so nice. That's all you'll probably find. No, you won't.
You won't find the BMW that you wrecked, that you
(06:05):
were driving. We're not gonna say anything about that, Anthony,
that you ran into the deer about I'm gonna let
you off on that. What happened, Anne, I don't.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Remember that one, So we're just gonna we're gonna push
that out on the rug like I like, I just
don't remember it.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Oh you remember the hood? Damn it? You did to
that seven forty the green one.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yes, I have no idea what you're talking about. I
have no idea.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Okay, I got you. So anyway, that's what transpired over
the weekend, and I had a wonderful time, guys, I
really did. It was I've been out to a lot
of car shows, but this one. The weather again, whoever
wrote in the weather for this weekend, please do it again.
It was just you can walk around, Anthony, see all
(06:57):
the cars, talk to everyone, never break a sweat, a
cool breeze. I mean, just and Anthony. They had Rose
Royces there, Anthony. Every car under the sun was there.
Street rides everything was there, and you had some trucks
looked like Maynard and they'd go by. They were half
(07:20):
rusted out. You're going, what's that there? Until they hit
that engine and then you knew what they had under
the hood. Oh my gosh, Anthony. Some people want original,
they do not want to repaint it, so they look
rusted out, Anthony, until they raise the hood and then
your mouth just drops wide open. Bam, I mean, Anthony,
your mouth drops wide open. So guys, you could rent
(07:45):
scooters to get around if you weren't able to. They
had trams going around the facility. All you had to
do is get on them and just film all the
cars and talk to all the people. It was really
a great time well put on. So anyway, that's what
I did this weekend, Anthony, and it was phenomenal. That's all.
(08:06):
So second piece of business, and before we get to
our break and come back and throw the national news
at you, is that I got a golf tournament today.
Got me. I've got my team set, Yes, Mike, my
only call, I only had one available. I've already called
my man Tim, I've told my man Randy. I had
(08:27):
about three or four people on standby but everyone's gonna
make it franky, your brother, myself, Mike, Vine and Mike
and Anthony. Mike sent me a picture of his clubs.
Can you believe all Kentucky everything, Anthony, all Kentucky everything.
I'm a painted red Mike. Just get ready. I got
(08:47):
my spray paint with me. We may be fighting out
on the Cardinal Club. Never know, that might be my
first win. Not shinning, but you we're gonna have a
great time. Honestly, we're gonna have a great time. That's all.
So anyway, we're gonna get to break. Hopefully George Williams
can get up from a long day now. I hope
(09:07):
George is doing well. We'll have to check on him.
But when we come back, we're gonna throw the national
news to you. So this is Eve Sports Radio. Guys.
It's seven point fifteen, Yes, August fourth, Anthony, twenty twenty five.
It's Monday, first day at a work week. Let's get
something accomplished. That's all that I can tell people. Eves
Sports Radio will talk to you all in a minute.
(09:29):
Be moving in the direction to work. That's all that
I can tell you. That's all, do a great job
at work today. Also do a fantastic job. Make your
employers say I should give them a raise. You do
such a good job at work. Welcome back to EVE
Sports Radio, Anthony. We're gonna throw it to you get
some of the national news out of the way before
(09:51):
we get into all the things that are locally going on.
I want to say one thing though, No I don't.
I'm gonna hold on that. I'm gonna hold on the
dirt bowl. I'm gonna hold on allow no allowles in
the Chevy match with Kenney. So we'll talk about those
things later, but I'm gonna throw it to you first.
What do we have going on in national news?
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah, we gotta so the first thing obviously we do
have coming up getting into our PGA side. We do
love golf over here. We do notarize that Cameron Young
did win his first PGA Tour title at the Winham
Championship that they hosted back in our hometown where we
used to live in Greensboro, North Carolina. He got his
first full rent on Sunday after seven runner up finishes.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
He made it look.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
He had five straight birdies early to build a nine
shot lead and coast home to a two undred sixty
eight shot win, win them championship by six shots Sedgefield Country.
I didn't need to watch it. I didn't get to
watch the entire weekend, but I did sell the final
score and it was a blowout.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Just to say the least, he played well. I played
that course, Anthony, honestly twenty times. It's great to watch
pros play the course that we played. And here's the
funny thing, Anthony want people to know number eighteen, which
was a long downhill part four for regular golfers, that
was a part five. People don't know. They adjust those courses.
(11:08):
But congratulations, no question, young did well. What else do
we have?
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Of course, also we got more too. We have some
Hall of famers inducted it into the NFL Hall of
Fame this past who. Yes, a couple of notable names.
Some names I'm not gonna lie on this list. I
know two of them. The other two I'm not super
familiar with, only because I'm not as old. I don't
know suer well. But did they Obviously Antonio Gates. If
(11:34):
you've ever watched football, you know Antonio Gates is one
of the best tight ends ever played in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Ever, Anthony never was I did play Anthony. He did
not play college football. Hen'll play basketball now. Once that
played basketball Kent State, Anthony, a basketball player, took Kent
State to the Elite eight. I want people to think
about this. A lot of people don't know. Wiley Brown
(11:59):
did the same thing. No, he was not a Hall
of Famer. But Wiley Brown did play football in high school,
did not play a snap in college, was on the
national championship team, was a starter, went to two final fours.
Anthony did. Wiley did the same thing with the Eagles.
Derrick and I go to the NBA, Wyley Brown says,
I'll see your later, brothers. He goes to the NFL.
(12:21):
So yes, Antonio Gates nine hundred and fifty five catches,
Anthony eleven and forty one yards, and I keep pushing
Mark Clayton eighty three touchdowns. Antonio Gates had one hundred
and sixteen touchdowns, one hundred and sixteen Anthony. He was
the real deal, no question, the real deal, and played
(12:44):
Anthony when just like Mark. Yes, there's a lot of touchdowns.
Score now Anthony, but the defensive rules are so different
they could legitimately knock Antonio Gates's head off anton if
they could mark Clayton's also, I want people to understand
that that's what they were trying to do. There was
no rule unprotected wide receiver. Any we're trying to kill
(13:05):
those guys. So my opinion, the old receivers and their
numbers are better than the new receivers. That's all because
of what they had to go through to catch that football.
That's all I'm saying, Anthony, bump and run was real
the first five yards they were trying to mug those guys.
I love football, can't wait for it to start. But
(13:26):
that's why Antonio Gates one hundred and sixteen touchdown. Real deal, Anthony,
go ahead. Sorry about that. Of course.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
The other or of some of the other names we
had in there, we have Jared Allen to not and
that's not Jared Allen in one of the quarterbacks, as
this is a differente He was a dominant defensive end
in his career with one hundred and thirty three one
hundred and thirty six career sacks, led the Innfilm in
Facts twice, and he was inducted after five years of
his eligibility as well.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Then we also have to right, but don't don't rush
five times, four time All Pro, one hundred and thirty
six sacks. I mean, think of this. We're talking about
Parsons with my cowboys, which they're not my cowboys anymore.
And he's got fifty two sacks. I think Anthony through
four seasons, which is incredible. I mean, if he says
on this space, Michael Parsons the Hall of Famer, no question.
(14:17):
But I mean, Alan Anthony, he would go get you. Yes,
you're just a little young, but he would go get you. Anthony.
I'm a football I can't Eric Allen, go ahead, move
on to the next one. Man. I love too. Those
guys earn their money, period point blank. I was a
pro basketball player. I stole every dime these football players, Anthony.
(14:42):
That's why I don't let anyone take anything from a
football player that they accomplish. And they're out there getting
their heads knocked off. They're not out there playing. They're
getting hit every day, every game. Someone's trying to hurt them,
period point blank. Basketball is not the same. And I
play pro basketball. It is not the safe, period point blades.
(15:03):
It's physical, much more physical when I played, but still
not like what these guys did. I respect them out
of them, I really do.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Go ahead, yeah, of course. And then also getting into
Eric Allen, the elite cornerback with a fourteen year NFL
career across the Eagles, Saints, in Raiders, totally fifty four
interceptions and six six Pro Bowl selections throughout his career.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
He was the glove Anthony. Oh he can. He was
really good. I mean he was really good. Why is
my mind going blank? And you wouldn't know his name.
He was the fastest guy in the NFL forever. He
was the cornerback for the worst Redskins. Come on, Jerry,
I'm looking right out. Not Jean Taylor, No, Anthony A
little bit. He got green. His last name was Green Anthony.
(15:49):
He was the fastest guy in the NFL for twelve years.
He would run you down. I mean, they would cut,
they could cover people. I mean, boy, this year's NFL
we're gonna talk about college football, and I have to
I like it. But come on, guys, you got the Bills,
Josh Allen, you got the Ravens. Everybody's selling out Lamarch
(16:12):
Lamar Jackson's Ravens already. But they're not even talking about
Patrick Mahomes. The goat Anthony, you'ren't even talking about him.
You just wait till they get their defense and get healthy.
Kansas City, come on, Joe Burrows, come on, Aunt. This
year's football is gonna be amazing. Daniels with the Commanders,
(16:35):
Let's just let the NFL season roll. This year is
going to be exciting, That's all I know. I mean,
you've got great quarterbacks everywhere, Anthony, absolutely almost everywhere in
my opinion, So I'm pumped. I really am pumped. But
let's talk a little bit about the brothers. The Sharp brothers, Anthony,
(16:59):
the only others in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Talk about that, Yeah, you're talking about sirl And Sharp,
the stand out wide receiver for the Green Bay Factors,
joins his brother Shannon Sharp, in the Hall of Fame,
making them the first brothers to ever beat Enshrine. The
only reason why I say they'll be the first won't
be the last, because I'm pretty sure the Kelsey brothers
will be next.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Okay, Okay, yes, yes, I no, I agree, absolutely, yes,
I think that they'll be the second. The Kelsey brothers
will be second.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Yes, and surprising name that hasn't been in there already
is Peyton and Eli Manning. I'm surprised they're both not
in there.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
I can't no, no, this is Eli deal, It's Anthony, Okay.
I don't know why people will not give Eli his due.
Anthony super Bowl champ Okay, his numbers, Okay, I love
Lamar Jackson's numbers. Y'all know that, not letting anybody knock them.
(17:55):
But Eli rose to the occasion. He beat the great
New England Patriots team. You got me in the great team.
I don't know why the NFL Hall of Fame yet
is not giving him his due. He played in the
toughest market. Guys, if you've never everyone always, and I'm
(18:16):
being honest, Jerry, you give your local team's hard time sometimes,
or you'll give some personalities a hard time. Why why
aren't you frightened? Anthony? I honestly grew up in the
DC in New York Market when I was coaching, and
I told people legitimately driving down the Turnpike Anthony outside
(18:39):
New York City when I hear them always, but Beard's
a bum, they should fire him. You know I'm driving,
I'm used to that. I gonna eat my little sausage
and biscuit Anthony. I'm driving. I'm telling you a Taurus.
It's two thousand and oh no, no, no, it's nineteen
ninety six, ninety five, ninety six. Our Butcher Beard, I'm like,
(19:01):
god boy, that was killing my man. Butcher. It's your
part of Jersey's too. The Davis Court, he's a bum
and I'd almost wrecked my car. I almost wrecked my
car on the turnpike. I'm telling you, going to the Meadowlands,
I almost wrecked my car. It was the first time
Anthony I had someone on the radio call me a
(19:21):
bum and needs to be fired too. I was like
talking about it. Anthony Eli did it in the toughest
market in New York City. He delivered in the toughest market.
How the NFL hasn't put him in they have rocks
in their head. I don't care about the numbers. The
(19:41):
bottom line is when he had to beat the best,
Tom Brady on he's the goat. I'm not a New
England fan, but Tom Brady is the dope goat. There
is no question he did it. So I don't care
about the guy holding the ball to his helmet with
a remarkable catch. I don't care about any of those things.
Eli Manning should be in the Hall of Fame and
(20:03):
will be. I don't know what the hold up is.
I just don't don't understand it. So that's the second group.
They'll beat the Kelsey Brothers. The Kelsey Brothers will be
the third group. But great point. I just eli that's
I don't get I don't get it with Mark Clayton
with eighty three, Okay, Anthony, Yes, Mark Clayton comes on
(20:24):
my show. Yes he's a cardinal. Yes I'm biased. Yes
he's from Indianapolis. Yep, he's a five foot eight dynamo
that we were all trying to eat chicken together. Here's
a Hall of Famer. Sterling has eighty five average, eighty
five catches a year, got me in. Mark was in
the seventies. Sharp has sixty five touchdowns. Mark's got eighty three.
(20:49):
Now Sharp only played seven seas. I give him credit
five pro bos. Mark had three pro bos. I don't
get to deal with Mark Clayton. I just don't get it.
I don't understand how Mark Clayton's not in. I'm by it,
Kentucky fans. I don't understand how Jojakoby's not in with
the Washington Redskins and the Hogs. I could talk about football,
pro football, Anthony. I could talk to you about it
(21:10):
all day long. I just don't get it. All the
Hogs are in, but not Joe. I've had Joe on
the show, the nicest individual right here from Leewil Anthony
Western High School. I don't I have no idea how.
And if I just said, yep, we're putting everybody in,
but Joe the Anthony. They mauled people, the Washington Redskins
(21:33):
with rigs behind them. They mauled people, Anthony. That's all
there is to it. They physically beat people up. I
don't get it. So there are two cardinals right there
that I will stand behind. I have to research Kentucky's
players a little closer, Anthony. But I went to school
with those two, So I want people to understand I'm personally.
They were at Louisville with me. We stood in the
(21:55):
line together to get our little juice as Anthony. That came,
and I mean you could wrap your hand around the
little juice container. You couldn't get With three of them here,
we are thirsty and huge. Joe was six to seven,
Anthony three hundred. Then Joe was sixty seven three hundred
at that time. Anthony, this is nineteen seventy eight, seventy
nine eighty at Louisville. He came out the year before
(22:17):
I did. Mark came out the year after I did.
So anyway, there were a lot of great players walking
on that campus. That's all I'm saying. A lot. And
those two guys should be Hall of Famers, a lot
better than myself. I was a scrub, Anthony. Those two
guys can go get it. So anyway, any great job.
It's already seven thirty two. We're gonna stay on task.
(22:39):
You know, we're gonna go to break. We might have
to use one of these cut this one, Shannon, we
might have to use this one for the best of
when I take a day off, like Anthony says, and okay,
George has sent me a message said he'll see us
on Friday. He's just busy, so no problem. George Williams
is fine. He's just busy and he'll see us on Friday.
So let's get the break, Shannon. When we come back
(23:00):
and talk a little bit, I sent you a clip, Shannon,
Paul fine Bam is speaking about Texas. Anthony's team. I
want everyone to hear it and see what Anthony's opinion
is about this. After the break, Welcome to Eves Sports
Radio seven thirty five. Shannon's got the clip ready, so
let's play Paul fine bomb talking about the University of
(23:21):
Texas football. Shannon, Please, all.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Right, let's move to your neck of the woods now, Paul,
the SEC will go a third straight year without winning
a national title. Paul in or Paul out.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
I don't want to scream out this early in the morning,
but I do not agree with that at all.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Of course, I'm paid not to agree with that.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
I think the SEC will make it back to the
championship game, and I think it's going to be Texas. Yes,
we've had plenty to say about our humanity, but that's
not the only thing that Steve Sarkisian has. He has
the best team in the country top to bottom. That
it is his best roster, he says that, not me,
and for that reason, I think they may lose one
(24:02):
game along the way, but.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
They're going to be the national champion when it's over.
Thank you, sen So Anthony, someone is picking your team
right now. College Football Rankings AP preseason Ohio State, which
opens up with Texas Notre Dame, Oregon third. Texas is
fourth in the AP Penn State is fifth. I can't
(24:27):
believe that in front of Georgia. What do you think, Anthony,
can your Longhorns get it done? Is Manning that good?
And it's Paul fine boy? I'm correct.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
You know from the few stats that we got to
sell him play last year, I saw a lot of potential.
Now can I based it off of the entire season?
I can't. But at the same time, no, it's my team,
and I like man, I'm gonna keep my faith in them.
I think they have a strong chance to I think
the only thing that could slow him down and getting
all the way to that national championship or with winning
could be that experience factor. I think that's the only
(25:01):
thing that might get in a way. When I think
it comes to skill and potential that the long Runs
have offensive and defensively, I don't. I think they can
match up with pretty much any team in the SEC.
Obviously in the Big Twelve and even the ACC as
well and Big Ten. Big ten does bring physicality. The
only reason why I'm not sold on the Big Ten
as much outside of Ohio State is because they don't
score the ball that well. That's why I don't really
(25:23):
like Penn State above Georgia Jonson, they canderstand. At the
same time, the big ten as a whole doesn't score well.
Dylan Rowland, Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State. Then your guard.
You start getting into the lower level teams in there.
You got like Bruckers, A couple of teams are just not notable.
Maryland is trying to score the ball a little bit,
but at the same time, they struggled the last few
(25:43):
seasons too, So I think the champion will come out
of I still say the SEC. Ohio State always makes
a push, but I think SEC will still be the
top contender this year for the national championship.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Here's a weird thing I want everyone to understand. Preseason
is preseason, and predictions are predictions. Everyone knows everybody has
something and sometimes someone's counts. But the bottom line is this,
You've got Oha State, Notre Dame. I'm never in Notre
Dame win something if they don't stop Oregon, Texas four,
(26:19):
Penn State five, Georgia six, Arizona State seven, Boise State eight,
Tennessee nine, Indiana ten, Anthony I'm reading the AP. I
just the final rankings, right, So we're gonna wipe out
(26:40):
half those teams. They're gone right now. Tennessee's ranked tenth
in the SEC. They finished last year ninth. This is
the great thing about name, emagine likeness. You have a
chance to revamp your team, Anthony Boyce, who will be
nowhere to be found. We know that Arizona State lost everything.
(27:01):
I don't care what Eve says. They will not be back.
Indiana will not be ten. It's a completely fresh start.
So last year's finishers. Tennessee was ninth most seasons ten
years ago. If you were a ninth, you'd still be
in the top fifteen somewhere. Anthony, Tennessee is ranked tenth
in the twenty twenty five SEC rankings. Just to let
(27:23):
you know that there's gonna be major changes. Texas is
really good, Anthony. I'm leaning, like I always do, toward
an SEC champion. I do not think the big ten.
Everyone Okay, Columbus Ohio, they say they're going to pull
it off again. They say I'll State, they think they'll
win it again. I think people understand I don't see
(27:45):
Michigan winning it again. I don't they may be Ohio State,
but Michigan will not win a national championship. So that
leaves me with Texas, Georgia, LSU, Kelly, who's done decent job,
Albama Top fourteens. After that, Anthony. They all say that
(28:06):
Clemson is back in the mix. Acc even SEC people
that follow football that tell me, they say that they
expect Clemson to be really good this year. Back in
the mix. Back when I see in the mix, top eight,
top seven teams back in the mix. People expect Miami
to be.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Good this year.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Anthony back in the mix. I'm just not sold on
their coach. So when you're looking at it, I think
I'm not going with Texas or Anthony. I'm not going
with Texas. I think it will be an SEC team.
I'm going with Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina. No, South Carolina
(28:49):
can't get it done. Texas, Georgia, LSU, or Alabama will
be national champions by opinion, one of the four teams.
So we'll have to wait and see. I'm going out
on a limb. We followed it, We're looking at it.
That's what I think. Wild State will play a factor
in that Penn State again Franklin. He just hasn't ever
(29:12):
got it done. When it counts. They're gonna be very good.
They're gonna be fundamentally sound defensively, Anthony, they're gonna hit you.
They're just not gonna score enough to beat you. Like
you said, They're just not. So this year's football wide open.
I was gonna ask, like I told you today, with George,
we don't have his selections, so we were gonna go
(29:33):
through Georgia's selections. We've got my selection, Shannon's and yours.
For the Kentucky schedule, everyone's in that six win range.
Everyone's in that that should keep Stoops's job. Now, I
didn't know when a gentleman called last week said Toledo
beats Kentucky, and I told him he was smoking something.
(29:54):
I did not know that Toledo beat breaks off Mississippi
State last year, Anthony. I think it was forty one
to seven team and the opener. Now I did a
little research. Yes, Taledo brought in players, but they lost
a lot. A lot of teams cherry picked their players.
But last year's Toledo team was really good, really good, Anthony.
(30:15):
But I don't expect him to be that good again
this year, I do not, but they were really good
last year, so there is some question in that game.
But I'm going to stay with Kentucky winning that. I
see coach stops with six wins again. I'm telling everyone
I'm staying with it. They leaves to Louisville the last
game of the season. They beat Vanderbilt, which they haven't
(30:35):
done for a while. But they do beat Bandy and
Vandy Tennessee, Texas two, Florida three. I gave him Tennessee
November twenty fifth. I gave him that game, Anthony, and
this boy, I'm going to that game. That's when we
were requested. So we'll get Evan to get us a Anthony.
(30:55):
I've got them beating Toledo and Eastern Michigan. I got
coach Doops winning six games. So we'll have to let
it play out. We'll wait and see what George truly
has to say about that. But you know, Kentucky, it's
they beat Vandy I think four times in a row
in National or Anthony. That's why I'm fairly confident I'm
(31:16):
giving them that game. Auburn has had two top ten
recruiting years back to back. Auburn should bounce back this year.
They're bad, but they should bounce back. I have Auburn
beat in Kentucky. A lot of people can see Kentucky
defeating Auburn, but I think the money that they're spending
(31:37):
and they are, and the classes that they brought in
the last two years, Auburn should should have a bounce
back year. Should So we'll see. We'll have to play
it by ear Now. Before we get to our last
break at seven forty four, I'm gonna ask you anthy.
I know that it's kind of sensitive with you. I
(32:00):
want you to name NFL your top three quarterbacks after
the break at seven forty five. Your top three. You
get a chance to research it quarterbacks in the NFL
right now today, and I'm gonna argue with you about it.
So this is the Eve Sports Radio. I want everybody
to think about it. Your top three quarterbacks in the
(32:22):
NFL today? Who would you take? Is the sports radio
for Nubers? Five zero, two, five seven, one seventy nine hundred.
Damien Lee's golf outing is today eleven am at the
Cardinal Club. I'm not sure they're full or not, but
make it out if you can make a donation YMCA's
in the area. They do a lot of great things
(32:44):
for the community, so let's continue to help if we can.
We'll talk to you all after the break. Welcome back
Dave Sports Radio seven forty nine. Ten minutes to get
to work on time. It is August fourth, twenty twenty five.
Beautiful day outside. Needed a little rain and I got
a little last night, So thank you for irrigation system.
(33:05):
Thank you God. Anyway, Anthony, I asked you a question,
top three, the toughest question, I think, top three NFL quarterbacks.
Who would you go with?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Obviously I will and we'll have to go past with Mahones. Okay,
the two spot. For me personally, i'd still I still
like Lamar Jackson. The only reason why I put Lamar
a too obviously his playoff record doesn't suffice always a
regular season. But I know a lot of them like
to put Josh Allen and Joe Burrow. Josh Allen and
(33:39):
Lamar tied or second. For me, the only reason why
I put Joe Burrow for four is because he said
two of the best. He said, if not un doubt
Lee a top two wide receiver one and the number
one wide receiver to his entire career, Lamar. I know
a lot of people like to shout up about his
throwing and passing ability for him being a.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Dual threat quarterback.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
But if in your best best option is a Flowers
and Mark heath Brown over your entire career, you can't
really knock him that much when it comes to throw
And he hasn't had a Jamar Chase or t Higgins
or Stefan Diggs or Travis Kelsey.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Okay, he had Mark Andrews, Mark Andrew Mark Andrews.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Yeah, he had last year. He had it down to
your same thing. Patrick Mahoons had a down here last
year as well too, even at quarterback. And that's the
one time thing. I don't think Mark Andrews will have
another season like that. I don't think would be like that. Scar.
But at the same time, tight end role is different
than a wide receiver role. Kelsey has been on doublely
the best tied end of the football in the last
five years and it's not.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Even close, not even close, absolutely no, no, And I
mean and Patrick Mahoons has been the best quarterback. So yes,
they've hooked up without a doubt. I agree with you.
Here's mine You have to put and we have. There's
just no question that you don't do what Patrick Mahomes
(34:57):
is done in his career, going to super Bowl after
super Bowl after super Bowl, holding back Josh Allen and
Lamar Jackson got me. At least Joe Burrow's got him once, Anthony. Okay,
Joe did get him. That's why people hate me because
I pushed Joe Burrows. I pushed him last year and
(35:18):
the record was awful, but I pushed Joe Burrows. He
can spin the ball, There's no question about it. You
are right. He's got two of the best wide receivers
in the game period. Chase is a Hall of Famer,
There's no question about that. But he can throw the
mess out of the ball, Anthony, He really can. My three, Okay,
I'm with you. Patrick Mahomes has to be. There's no
(35:40):
one close so once when Brady retired, there was no
one close. Second. I am still people are gonna hate
me for it. Joe Burrows is second for me. Joe
is second. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are tied for
third period. I'll give Josh a nod, Anthony, because he
(36:03):
defeated Lamar and I want to Naser your championship, and honestly,
I tell people all the time, it would have been
easier for Jerry's to choke that eighteen foot jump shot
and miss that layup when I went back to back.
Those are a big four points, Anthony, I had to
make those. You understand what I'm saying that I was
a sophomore twenty years old. Scrub averaged seven and a
(36:23):
half points a game. I had to make those shots
for University of Louver to win the championship, period point blank.
So that's why I told you all last year my
favorite quarterback is Lamar, but we're seeing the best three.
He's tied for thirty but Josh and if I had to,
I'm giving Josh just a not just because Josh defeated
(36:44):
him when he counts. I told you I would Lamar.
I want everybody to understand less is more. He's accomplished
more than anybody ever dreamed, period point blank. No one.
I love when I see the talking heads start talking
about Lamar, and Harball came out and said he's one
of the greatest pastors and one of the great No,
(37:06):
it's not, but that's Harball's coaching. Harball is good at
what he does. But the bottom line, I can play
you all all the talking heads saying Lamar would never
let me just get it to your straight never. So
I love how it's all changed. So Lamar has changed
(37:26):
the outlook with his work as you gotta love it.
Now it's time for him to do less, let his
teammates do more and get over the hump. And that
is a growing process. Also, it really is. You have
to learn how to win. Winning it is the hardest
thing in the world to do. I want people to
understand that you have to give up with yourself like
(37:48):
Daryl Griffith did, Anthony. I told you I shot it twice.
Derek shot it, Rodney McCrae shot it, Daryl shot it once.
Go look at the last five and the biggest game
in Louisville's history, winning the first championship NCAA is the
biggest game. I'm not patting myself on the back, but
(38:08):
no reason lying anymore. The facts of the facts. Darryl
riff did not force the action Anthony. He let his
teammates help him. He was the best player on the
floor bar nine. So now I want to see Lamar
do the same thing. Less is more so, he is
tied with Josh Allen city in at three. Now I
(38:31):
can't wait to watch Jaydon Daniels Anthony. I want to
see if he makes another step into that top four
or was that first year just a crazy year? That's
all I want to say. That boy continues to improve it. Oh,
that boy what he did last year? Gosh, I mean rookie,
a rookie Anthony crazy year, thirty five hundred yards, twenty
(38:56):
five hundred touchdowns, only nine interceptions. I mean a crazy
year for or rookie Anthony and turn that franchise around.
Those are my top five. Dak Baker Mayfield are sitting
on the outside. I like Jared Golf. I think if
Detroit stays healthy, Jared Golf would have won one last year.
(39:16):
I really believe that. I don't want to leave out Hurts.
Jalen Hurts Anthony. Again, if you look at his stats
in the championship, the one win and the one loss
against Mahomes, you take out the turnovers at the end,
his numbers are phenomenal. His passing numbers are phenomenal. So
(39:38):
I might be I might have to rethink that with
Jalen Hurts, I might have to throw him in. That
tied for third and fourth for Lamar and Josh Allen.
He does have a Super Bowl ring and a great
job is Eastworts Radio. Everybody, George is fine. He will
be back on Friday. He texts me, George, no problem,
Eastworts Radio. You'll have a great day. God will and
I'll talk to you tomorrow. Bye bye
