Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sports Talk seven ninety kr D. We got Shannon behind
the glass. Shannon is my youngest son, called in the others.
He's sleeping at the job. He's good, you're not sleeping
at the wheel. Bring you on, Shan, Let's bring on
the young fellow.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Anthony. Welcome back. How are you.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
We're doing goodness morning. I wouldn't say sleep at the wheel.
I wouldn't say more so no one actual sleep in bed.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Wouldn't hurt.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Oh, so the pillow one, the pillow was winning this
morning against you. That's bad and you gotta get up
and body slam the pillow. You know you're in charge
when you can get up look at your pillow, body
slam your pillow, straighten it out, put it on the bed,
make your bed, and walk out. That's when you know
you're a man. When the pillow wins. Anthony, yourself. So,
(00:46):
pillow didn't win on me this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
I was ready.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I was ready, no delays, Pop right up, So welcome back.
Appreciate you sitting in with me. You know that there's
so many things going on that we have to get
to today. First and foremost, though, I want people to
know that I did go to Carney's Galleries yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
And I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
John just loves doing this to me, but I thought
we had the whole same Xavier team at his facility.
All his grandkids go, I mean, Anthony, they had on
San Xavier everything. They're running around the shop. I'm like,
I asked one of his grandsons. I said, Ballard Bruins.
(01:31):
He looked at me and said, no, sir. I said,
oh my goodness. They're trying to train them too early, Anthony,
he couldn't have been in third fourth grade had everything on.
I said, well, I'm just gonna have to groom my
bruins to bust up and beat up on the dark side.
Same Xavier and Trinity. But anyway, John, nice seeing you.
John's going to be doing a laundry room floor for me,
(01:53):
like I told you, can't wait. My wife can't wait
to see it. But anyway, I'm going to move on
from that. He's a cat and we just don't want
the same thing about that. But we'll move into his
football schedule again. And I think a lot of cats
have their tongues tied when it comes to football team.
But more importantly, we have got yesterday's article navigating the
(02:16):
new landscape we're going to talk about. We're going to
talk about it, gentlemen for the jackson Bar Jaguars Jacksonville Jaguars,
a seventy yard field going exhibition game yesterday over the weekend,
excuse me, and we're going to talk about start the
show with a little bit of Kobe Bryant before I
thought to you for the National News in the second segment.
(02:38):
You got it ready, So let's play Kobe Bryant. I
want to talk to you all about this. Let it run, Shannon.
I mean, anytime that you're ready as.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
A leader, you gotta be able to take the good
with the bad man.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
You can't just because the ship's sinking all of a sudden,
we jump off and swim to another ship like that.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
You don't do that right.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
If you can win championships in front of everybody, then
you can miss the playoffs in front of everybody to
take both sides of them.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
If you're doing something that's so.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Easy, man, you might want to reconsider what you're doing.
Like I don't, like, I can't. You know, Durant's been
a friend of mine for a very very long time. Yeah,
I mean, you know, he's been a friend of mine
for a long time, so it's a bride all those guys.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
When I made the same decision.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
No, but that's their decision, that's their choice, Anthy.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
I had to start the show with that because I
think sometimes we forget that this isn't supposed to be easy.
My dad always used to tell me, Anthony. First thing,
life's not easy. Your job's not supposed to be easy.
I don't know where everybody got My job is supposed
to be cushy, cushy, goodie goodie. That's just not the
(03:47):
real world. Competition is definitely not easy. The players make
the money that they make, but in the old days,
because the competition was keen and you had to grow
and build something. Kobe Brian is talking about how players
bounce around, Anthony, and they do. They bounce around. They
try to find the best circumstance for themselves. I'm not
(04:09):
saying that's good or bad. It's just not my way.
It's not the way of the eighties. But I'm old,
so times do change. I do understand that. But Kobe
was one hundred percent correct. With everything that we do.
You will not just sports school take the a's with
the fs. Take the passing grade with the flunking grade.
(04:33):
Your job. Take the great days with the bad days.
They're good days at work and they're bad days at work.
That's why they call it work. Everyone now thinks that
it has to be rosy or something's wrong with other people.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
It's just not true.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
And people like Kobe Bryant, everyone in the league will
tell you, I mean everyone, And I was in the
league with him.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Anthey, as you.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well know, wasn't a nice guy, didn't talk to a
lot of people, very guarded. All true, I mean all true. Absolutely.
Did he take his profession as a nineteen year old seriously?
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yes he did.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Did he take his profession as a thirty year old seriously,
Yes he did. Did he take it as a thirty
six year old? And he yes he did. He took
his profession, his profession very seriously. It was a job.
He went to work. He wasn't there to socialize, have fun, party.
He went to work. He had a different perspective. So
I'm not telling people that you shouldn't want to go
(05:37):
to work or go to school. I'm just saying that
the perspective is not that your teacher has to it's
nice that they high five your kids going into school,
but they don't have to. It's nice that your employer
tells you that he's glad you're here, you're doing a
great job, but he doesn't have to. Yes, he doesn't
(05:58):
have to. Somethings are expected of adults. That's all I
want to say that to you all again, Some things
are expected of adults. So now we're starting on this Tuesday,
obviously twelfth for everyone. We've got school systems. Bullet is in.
(06:19):
I'm sure that Shannon was fighting all the school buses
coming in. E Town's in. And there's a funny saying.
I always say the dark side, guys. You know, I'm
just playing. The kids work hard, I appreciate everything they do.
I just give saying Savior Trinity a hard time because
Anthony Trinity dislocated my elbow at Trinity my junior year
(06:40):
and it hurt and I still remember it, and that's
all there is to it.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Anthony, it hurt.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
So I've got just there's a sensitive side about me
that you know. That's Trinity in their gymnasium right there
on Shelbyville Road, in the exact same gym you played in.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
I played in in the eighties. That's all.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
But KOs are going to school today. I want to
say this to everyone again. All schools are private schools.
All schools are paid schools. There are no free schools.
There are none, so standards should be such that there
(07:18):
are none. I'm not talking to the kids. I'm talking
to the parents. All schools are paid schools. I'm not
talking to black parents. I'm talking to all parents, White parents,
Asian parents, Mexican parents.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
All parents.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
All schools are paid schools, so they should be treated
in such a manner of what we all say when
we say Saint Xavier, Trinity, Sacred Heart, Assumption. I saw
Sacred Heart as it lee and my daughter's dance studio yesterday,
and Sacred Heart's team is there practicing. They cheer for
Saint Xavier and Trinity, the Sacred Heart girls. But schools, guys,
(08:01):
are paid schools.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
So Kobe Bryant's statement when it sounds good like oh,
you're jabbing Lebron, No it wasn't. You're jabbing Chris Paul.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
No, it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
I wasn't in I was jabbing the parents in the
Justin County school system. The bullet east e Town, North
hardin Odham County. Guys, they don't have to sit there
with grinning. They're going in those schools to learn. Everybody
should understand that everybody should be on the same page,
the same accord, bottom line, one thing, one thing only.
(08:34):
Some days they'll be good days, some days they'll be
bad days. Isn't that kind of what life is? So,
Kobe Bryant, you're with the angels now. But as you
talk about perseverance, work ethic, Michael Jordan had much more talent.
Kobe was the hardest working guy I've ever seen in
(08:56):
my entire life. Kobe Bryant did not have Michael Jordan
as anthony. He just couldn't palm the ball like an
orange can do those things. But he played like you
wouldn't believe because of the way he approached his business.
So now that school's in, can we all please approach
school in a businesslike attitude to where they're there for
(09:18):
one thing and one thing only to improve and learn
critical thinking thought processes and educate themselves. So and that's
kind of my editorial chatting, great job forgetting me Kobe
early and right away. We won't go to break at
seven fourteen. There's any comments about my statement, phone numbers
five zero, two, nine hundred. You do not have to agree,
(09:43):
you can disagree. I want to hear all comments. I'm
just gonna still reply back to you. Of course I'm
going to do that. The show's called Esports Radio. But
you'll be treated with utmost respect if you agree call it.
Talk to you all after the break. Welcome back to
EVE Sports Radio. It is August twelfth, twenty five Tuesday.
(10:04):
One more public service announcement, Anthony, I do have public
service announcements before I thought to you in the national news.
Today is the last day for Bluegrass Audi. I think
they've been in business sixty five years. They're selling the
dealerships to a company out of Columbus, Ohio, the Germaine
Auto Group, and the sale goes through as of yesterday.
(10:27):
Tomorrow it will be probably just out of Louisville, so
the Bluegrass commercials will stop. I am going to meet
with them in the next two weeks. But I just
wanted to say, great run, great family. Herb Vine, Mike Vin,
Andy Vine, Jim Haynes, Sarah Haynes, and the blue Grassoudi family.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Congratulations job well done. So Anthony.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Let's do it to you. What we have national news?
What's going on? First High school wise? I can't believe
what's going on Male High Bitwin, what's going on here?
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Cole he's in leaving this last year. He's going to
play his last season at a pres school in North Carolina,
at Combine Academy, which doesn't surprise me. I kind of
saw this coming. I'm surprised Jeremia Jackson actually didn't leave,
if he actually ended up staying next Saint Xavier. We
got the news from Corney's gallery himself, So somebody's always
over there hating on the dark side, but getting meaningful
information exactly.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
I had to get I had to get the information
from him. Yes, Jeremiah's in class with John's daughter's son.
He's in class, so, yes, he is back. I'm glad
to hear that that he did not leave, but Cole
is leaving. I don't know what coach Hayworth's gonna do
at Male this year.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I just don't know what they have. I'm gonna have
to call it.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
I always see Tim Anthony always in Las Vegas at
the Summer League. I probably seen him the last three years,
but not last year, you all don't go. I end
up going by myself. Mike Vine and I go, but
I didn't see him. And I always see Tim and
he gives me the rundown, the four one one. So Tim,
I know you're listening. You're gonna have to let me
(12:05):
know what's going on. I know that ballat's coming to Tim,
and your players are running on you. But you're gonna
have to call in and let me know what's going on.
So anyway, big news there. I hate to see Anthony.
We argue about this all the time. Why did co Eland?
I know his father, I know his brother that's at
Western Kentucky. Why do they think they have to leave Louisville.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Why Anthony? Why? I don't get it.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
He's going for an experience, we're oute at this point.
He's not going for recruitment purposes because he's already signed
in Western Kentucky. So it's not a good going to
come by the apatomy to get recruited by a different school.
So a lot of them are just going for I
think an experienced aspect of playing better competition that they
think is somewhere else in these prep schools and in
their circuit. Rather than playing in the state, which in
(12:54):
this segment, you know, I actually don't disagree because I
think the competition is better in prep school that is
in Louisville. Right now, there is young talent that is
coming that makes this way say next year in my
Jack's gonna be a good one. You also have Josce
Lindsey that will be there. And you got a of
a lot of young kids that haven't got to really
(13:16):
make their stamp and their name as notable in high
school school in the high school sports yet. But for
a situation that he's in right now, everyone knows he'd
be a dominant player at Male high school and in
the state of Kentucky. We do know that he's done
over the last couple of years. He's just trying to
go ahead and get his feet wet and get ready
for better competition of what he's going to be playing
(13:37):
in college rather than his last year. Kind of, you know,
I say, kind of going with the motion. Playing in
the seventh and sixth region, which isn't bad, but it's
compared to Western Kentucky's competition, but will be playing in college. No,
it's not even close. It's not And day so I
don't hate the moose for him.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Because everybody, Anthony, you know what, I would feel better
and everyone knows I love coach Hayworth. Great job came
from Hopkinsville back and I want to say twenty eighteen nineteen.
Don't hold me to it, but somewhere in that ballpark
and did a great job at Hoptown has done a
great job at Mail. I would feel better, Anthony, if
(14:17):
I can at least say, Okay, co Eland and his brother,
they just ran through state championships. They were dryl griff
of Bobby Turner. They beat everybody in the country, and
they just playing here in Louisville. Just wasn't the challenge enough.
I'd say, Okay, got man, But that's not what's happened.
That's what's not what transpired. Mail Money. State championships are
not running through the people in the city. I mean,
(14:39):
he's challenged. That's my only issue. I just and why
I'm gonna ask his dad was dad? Well, I'm gonna
ask him, Anthony, no fire plug. I mean, mister Elin
is a fire plug. Why I'm just gonna ask. I'm
gonna start asking parents. I'm gonna have him tell me.
I just need to know, I don't understand it, need
(15:00):
to know, so I'm just gonna have to ask him.
So I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna reach out to
coach Hayward. I'm gonna get mister Eveland's number, who I know, well,
you know he played golf Anthony. I see him all
the time. But I'm just gonna ask you because I
just don't understand the movie. And secondly, it's MIM's not
gonna get see him play. Isn't that important?
Speaker 2 (15:20):
I don't know. I don't know who knows, but you're wrong.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
I can I you know, my senior move here and
mom and never didn't watch me get to play min
and messy of your games because she was in North Carolina.
As much as I say it, as I want her
to be there, it didn't affect me that much. At
least I can perform without people being there.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I got you, but I was at every game.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Drove you to Western Virginia when you'll played Ben Simmons
when you almost beat them. I was at ninety percent
of your games if I wasn't coaching, so at least
someone unless mister Eveland's gonna go up there, they're not
gonna get to watch you playing. That's all I'm saying.
I watched almost how many nine percent of your games?
At least we worked out in the morning Anthony at
(16:06):
Ballard before probably every home game you had. So that's
the thing. Those are the experiences I'm talking about. His
dad did the same with his kids that he's not
gonna get to do. I remember those days. Remember le
Branford Smith and his son, You and I we had
a ball in the morning, Anthony. We really did messing
with you all right now. We had a great time.
Those are the things I just maybe I'm wrong, but
(16:26):
I'm gonna ask him find out.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
That's all. What else do we have nationally? What else
is going on?
Speaker 1 (16:31):
But I'm glad Jeremiah Jackson's back, fantastic young man, and
San Xader should be knocking on the door.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Coach Klein does a great job there.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I thought they were gonna win it last year and
they're gonna have a great chance this year.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
What else do we have?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Maybe said we got a new landscape, and University of
Louisville's paying of two million dollars that'll be distributing out
throughout the University of the student athletes we'll be on. Well,
Louisville can handle a little bit of money on the table,
not under the.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Table, this time under the table. Slow your rope under.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
The table, under the table. Schemers for about the last
forty years.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Man, there you go with that garbage. I swear they
didn't get a.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Kentucky fan a piece of the poe.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Didn't a Kentucky fan, Kentucky fan, Duke fan.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
You got way off.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
All the time where they say Andy a Louisville fan.
I'm like, if y'all don't understand, he say, dupe friend.
He doesn't care about Louispoo or Kentucky. Any people don't believe.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Me, No, they'll they'll believe eventually. But it's okay. Everyone
knows these these big schools, even since the sixties.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
And you're right.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Williamson Williamson, Williamson house, two cars, Mom and dad moved.
Have you forgotten or do you need me to remind
you about Zion Williamson Duke University, two cars, a Mercedes
and over.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Talking to me.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Four hundred thousand dollars house, four hundred thousand dollars house. Uh,
that's what happened. No appropriation.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
I already I know, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Know, we're gonna We're not gonna sit here in neck
like some of your teammates were out here just eating
Ramen noodles with you.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Back in the day, we were eating Roman noodles. I'm
trying to take not all your Roman noodles.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
So anyway, now you're trying to speculated, we're gonna talk.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
We're gonna talk about that, navigate, We're gonna navigate Louisvill's money.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
What else you got, punk?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
We got that? And then also, uh sure, Dog Sanders,
it looks like he's moving his way up up on
the death chart to where he is getting the majority
of the reps on the second team now, so he's
decondly still not the starter yet. I just think they
still have to start and role at Joe Flacco, which.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Yes, Joseph start, that's the start for about.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Two weeks Joe, but take away. He's one hit sick
away from going to kun.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Here's the deal, Anthony and this so everyone understands everyone,
it's not a knock. The NFL is not for long.
You're Underson right. Father Time is going to win. There's
no question about that. He is one liquor too away.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
From can Kun.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
He's played a long time. It's all there is to it, period,
point blank. I mean, so is Aaron Rodgers. So all
these old quarterbacks and the young one's Anthony, they're one
running play and I hate it. But I want people
to understand, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, there are one play
away from not playing that.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Don't you understand that? That is what it is.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Football is a really contact, physical sport. So when we
say that that could happen, that could happen to a rookie,
it's just come on, Teddy Bridgewater almost tore his knee off. Factual,
you on, I you know this with shorts on, they
were even hitting Anthony. They weren't even hitting they had
(20:03):
no pads on, guys. Is just a tough sport, that's all.
But I congratulations again. All this set up, set up,
set down.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
No Anthony.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
All you want are opportunities. Should do as Santa's got
his first opportunity.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
He performed well.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
He wasn't perfect, nope, but was he better than people
expect it. There's no question about it. So when you
get an opportunity in professional sports, Anthony, you have to perform.
That's why I like preseason in the NFL because those
guys aren't guaranteed contracts.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Anthem, when punt returners dropped the ball, I told you anything.
He knows he's.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Pretty likely cut, Anthony. You must perform when the lights
come on. You must get it done. That's part of
being a professional. So, yes, you got a lot of
reps with the second and thirdeen Joe Flack was getting
most of reps with the first team. Well, Flacco was
going to be the starter. But you're right, it may
not be for long, but Anthony, that's that business. It's
(21:09):
not for long anyway. I mean average length of an
NBA player NFL player three and a half years. Now
you have something, and just think the Lebron James and
the Chris Paul's pushed that number upward, Anthony, because they're
playing so long. So there are more people that play
six months, six weeks, you understand what I'm saying, Anthony,
(21:30):
than they do the three and a half years.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
So I just want people to know it's very hard
to stick. Ask David Johnson. All the Kentucky players, asked
Raymond Spalding, how hard it is to stick in that
league for a whole year on an active roster, even
with eighteen players. So difficult, but yep, we got it.
But we're gonna get to all those things that and
we're already at seven thirty. I can't believe you to
(22:00):
talk about my cardinals.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
This is you're not yelling with those people under the
bus here.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
With that. Let me tell you one thing, any and
I tell everybody I want you on to don Anthony.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
I deserve to be paid. And I'm still mad. That's
what we're going to talk about when we come back
after the break. This navigating the new landscape. Thank you
Lord that these kids can get paid the money they deserve, Anthony, period,
point blank, the money they deserve. They have made billions
of dollars.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
I don't anybody to get it twisted.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
And if they received the dime all of a sudden,
they were the bad guys. No way, it's because the
narrative was paying incorrectly. But anyway, we'll be back after
the break. Welcome back to Eating Sports Radio. Seven thirty four,
August twelfth, twenty twenty five. Yes, it's the eighth month. Yes,
Christmas is around the corner.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I've got to go a little.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Rain this afternoon. My yard needs it. My irrigation is
not working, so I need God to step in. I
don't have an irrigation system.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
You all know that.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
But welcome back to the show. So Anthony, here's the deal.
Navigating a new landscape.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
All the schools are every power five, power four, however.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
You want to look at it. Team in the country
has been given twenty million dollars. So welcome to the
new revenue sharing era of college sports. Okay, it's only
been seventy years, Anthony, there's only been billions of dollars made,
just billions. That's why I sent you. And I'm going
to post it that Texas. It's out there on the internet,
(23:38):
so I don't have to post the people have already
seen it. The University of Texas football locker room. Did
you see it, Anthony. I mean, it's incredible, because I
want you to understand. You have to see the University
of Texas locker room. It's just incredible. Ranked number one
in the country, and the first team ranked number one, Anthony,
that's supposed to lose their first game. Ohio State can't
(24:00):
wait for that first game, but still at the shoot
in Columbus.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
But now that schools can pay their players about time.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
University of Louisville has twenty point five million football, basketball programs, volleyball,
and baseball. Every school is doing it a little differently,
but they're all fairly close. But I wanted to finally
talk to people antheony about what Coach Beard and I've
been talking to them about, honestly for probably it's been
on eleven years. We've been talking about this extensively for
(24:33):
eight or nine. The payment of college athletes. Twenty point
five million dollar cap, four percent annual increase per year
gotten Power five conferences, which are the ACC Big Ten,
Big twelve, Pac twelve, which is not they're trying to
(24:54):
get it back, but they're just not what they what
they used to be. And the SEC we all know
UCLA USC gone to. The Big ten teams have left
Josh hurt, which has done a tremendous job at University
of Louisville. I've got two great coaches now. Coach Brown
his first two years couldn't have been any better.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
He've been a.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Dream come true for the University of Louisville fan base
and the football players in the city itself.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
It's done a great job.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Got PK basketball coach Wall women's basketball, coach McDonald baseball
College World Series. Last year the school was doing excellent,
but the sports programs, they really.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Are, but there still has to be dollars and cents made. Anthony.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Now, now Josh Hurt has to sit at the helm
and truly dictate and decide who gets.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
What and when.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
So he's sitting down with the Career Journal. I want
people to understand sitting down with the Career Journal. And
he finally did a public forum with them, went through
some of the things, not all the details, but a
lot of the details on the twenty three varsity sports
University of Louisville has and how Louisville is going to
invest its money in these programs. Josh did not answer
(26:14):
how much the twenty point five million is going to
each sport, but he did say he's approaching each allegation
with a range. It's not a rigid number. No coaches
feel like their programs got a big enough slice, but
that was expected. Everybody wants more. That's just expected. Everybody
(26:37):
is fighting for more money to get better players to
be able to compete in this environment. So everyone wasn't happy,
but they weren't sad. But Louisville made a choice of
the four sports that they were going to invest in.
Some schools which I'm going to read to you out
of the article, have done it differently. But there's certain
things you need to know. University louis was known for
(27:01):
basketball power football's come around.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
We know that football is the golden goose. Guys. Football
is the sport that generates the majority of the money.
It just is so.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
During the University of Louis's Athletic Association budget workshop meeting
in May, Herd shared the terms of the House settlement,
which would be about twenty two million impact on Louisville's budget.
Is a twenty point five million dollar cap that will
be paid to the players, four hundred and fifty dollars
in additional operating expenses, and a million dollars of the
(27:35):
revenue anthony he has to go to the two point
eight billion and back pay due to athletes. They could
not profit from their name, image and likeness. So let
me explain something to people. I wrote these names down
when we're talking about truly the O players Louisville, Kentucky
and Indiana because that's where we are that weren't able
(27:55):
to profit off of their names. But I want you
just to close your eyes and think about and let's
start with my school, the Daryl Griffith, okay Anthy, the
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
How many jerseys have.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
You think have been sold of Daryl's and Lamars that
you've seen kids walked around this city? The University of
Louisville prophet at one. The players got nothing, not a dime.
I mean, guys listened to me, not a dime. Let's
go to think about this, Kentucky fans with the program
in the tradition that you all have had, Big Dan
(28:28):
Issel my man all the way to reed Sheppard bounds
back to John wall got me all the way to tomorrow. Cousins,
Anthony Davis, cal Macy, Kevin Greevy, Jimmy Dan Connor, Mike Flynn,
Dirt Minifield.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
I mean, this list goes on forever.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Isaiah Thomas, Landon Turner, Randy Whitman, Scott may Ken, Benson Quinn,
come on, Keith Smart, Steve Alfred, The list goes on, Anthony,
all those jerseys that were sold from these great players,
(29:12):
players didn't get a dime, not one red pinion. So
there was money put in not for those players. They
still aren't going to receive a dime, not one pinion.
But I think you told me Anthony. It goes back
to twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. They're going to be paying
players back to that period some compensation. Thank you for that.
(29:33):
So yes, Read Shepherd will receive some compensation, thank you
for that. Will deserve, yes, get earned it. He deserves it,
just like some of the University of Louispool players will
that did not. I think that Damian Lee missed just
like you, miss, Anthony, we were talking about it. But
players that play eighteen nineteen twenty David Johnson, those guys
(29:55):
will receive a little compensation, Anthony, for their efforts, for
the shirts that were sold, the jerseys that were sold.
So I just want people to understand they didn't get
a penny for that. So every time you see one
of those jerseys, every time you see Louisville and Kentucky
jerseys for Lamar Jackson, Darryl Griffith and all the great
(30:16):
players from all those schools, they received nothing. The school
got it all. So yes, it's time for the school
to pay, period point blank. So when the university said
they had to put that money in and they have
to deal with this budget cut.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
The University of Louisville.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Is going to do their football, basketball, women's basketball, and baseball.
Those are the four sports they're going to invest in.
Some teams, I want to read this to you have
done it differently. Each school has to balance the checkbook
by feeding its money making sports more than the other
ones that don't generate revenue. So again, some sports guys
(30:56):
lose money every year. You've heard people call into my
show and they'll insinuate, I mean consistently about Dann McDonald
and the baseball program and what he makes and that again,
you all, it's done a great job there. But any
business that pays the coach more than the program's worth,
it is off balance. And when I say that the
(31:17):
salary of the coach one point seven one point eight
million to the travel expenses. When you start to balance
them out, when your coach's salaries are sitting that they're
weighing the truck down in the back, you know you've
got things inappropriately balanced.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
No one wants to say that because coach McDonald's done
a great job, but it's just the truth. There's been
no revenue generated through college baseball when we're talking dollars
and cents. Yes, when you go to the College World Series,
it draws people, Anthony, but still there's no dollars and
cents when you're talking about ticket revenue, TV revenue. It's
(31:56):
just not there yet. We used to an idead Eves
used to say that about women's basketball. But guys, Caitlin Clark,
Andel Reese, they're turning that corner. Women's basketball is now
generating revenue, and the more they generate, the more they
should be paid. I want you to understand that they've
earned it. Nothing's given. They've earned it. So some schools, though, Anthony,
(32:19):
their breakdowns differently. Georgia, Texas Tech, they're doing this a
little different. On the seventy four percent is going to
football for Georgia, seventeen to eighteen percent is going to
men's basketball for the University of Georgia, two percent is
going to women's basketball, and one point nine percent on
baseball and the rest of the other sports. So they're
going to give some of the Olympic sports some money
(32:43):
one point nine percent to break up amongst those teams.
Of the twenty million dollars guys. So there's going to
be roughly one and a half two million dollars of
that twenty that will go to Olympic sports.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Everyone is doing it differently.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Everybody is trying to make sure that they balance their checkbook.
Athletic directors now have to truly make business decisions more
than the old days. The coach wanted me to explain
to you all. In the old days, how can we
funnel more to this money to these coaches. How can
we write in the coaches contracts, let's pay them for
(33:16):
the kids' grades. Come on, guys, so we pay them
three million dollars. Let's pay them if they win the conference,
if they go to the NCAA tournament, if they win
a tournament game, if they win two tournament games, if
they win the NCAA Championship. More money, more money, more
money to a very small group. You're gonna see less
of that. They're gonna have to make sense with their budget.
(33:37):
They're gonna pay the coaches they very good salary. No
one's gonna quit. But you're not gonna see all the
crazy add ons, all the crazy add ons that you see,
all the season tickets for life that some people have
because guys, that revenue to give away. Now, Josh Hurd
has to make business decisions like everyone else has to,
(33:59):
Just like Jerry Yeps when I'm paying people on my show,
when I have remotes and I have to pay my producer,
I have to charge enough to pay my producer pay
for the equipment. Guys, business decisions have.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
To be made.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Well, now they're being made at all the universities. I'm
glad for that. But I'm glad one reason, one reason,
only the athletes have been put in the profit mix.
Thank you Lord, so that Anthony I don't have to
talk about Zion Williamson and who got what and when
and how when they should have been getting it a
long long time ago. Guys, you understand me. It's so funny, Anthon,
(34:36):
I was just having fun. We're going back and forth
about who got a nickel. Guys, nothing was given. It
was all earned, period, point blank.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
So we have to wait and see how this shakes out.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Yes, there's gonna be some bumps in the road, but
at least it's on the road to fairness.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Thank you. Is ease work seven forty seven.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
I know you got to get to work when we
come back Guys, I got a funny clip. We get
to hear Coach Patino again and at least this time
I agree with half his statement. Eastworts Radio will be
back in a minute. Well, welcome back to Eve Sports Radio.
It's seven point fifty one.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Ac.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
I can't get you today, Ac, I've got to get
you another day. I just want you to know that
my one and only AC was waiting for me. But
I want to play this clip, So Shannon, are.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
You with me?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Let's play. Let's play Coach Patino and let's play this clip. Guys,
I want you to listen to it, and I think
at least I agree with half of it. At least
half of it. Coach Patino has come clean. So let's
listen to it.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
We've got about a two minute clip a Coach Patino.
Speaker 5 (35:50):
You mentioned going back to Lexington and obviously getting a
round of applause at Rupp Arena. You know, we recently
had Pat Kelcey on this show and he spoke glowing
about you and everything you did at Louisville. Has enough
time passed that you would go back to the KFC
Young Center.
Speaker 6 (36:09):
Personally or as a team to bring my team in there.
Both well, I think I had a lot of problems
with the University of Louisville, sure, and there's certain things
I will never forgive that they did, but that has
nothing to do with the president administration at the University
(36:29):
of Louisville, because the people that I was upset about
are no longer bought a trustees and it really wasn't
upset that they fired me. Anybody can be fired. I'm
okay with that. It was the treatment they gave Tom Jurich.
But just recently they named the street outside of the
of the practice facility Tom Jurich's Way. So all is forgiven,
(36:52):
all is forgotten. I no longer even think the slightest
bit negatively about the University of Louisville, and I would
go back in a New York minute. So it's everything's
forgiven that Tom George Way.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Is up there.
Speaker 6 (37:06):
I really don't care too much about myself. My staff
did some things that I did not appreciate, and I
have no problem with them terminating me at all. So
I've got to take responsibility for what happened. That was,
but I also take responsibility for seventeen unbelievable years, three
(37:29):
final fours in the National Championships. So great memories, great place.
And Pat Kelsey is doing like Mark Pope an awesome job.
Awesome job. I love his enthusiasm. I love what he's
all about as a teacher. They've got two great coaches
in the state of Kentucky, as good as there is
in our game.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Thank you, Shannon. So, guys, I have about two minutes
and he's just interested in listening to Coach Patino.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
That the words that he uttered in his conversation, if
they were uttered at the proper time, when they were proven.
We still know that the NCAA has written that hit
coaches can't say they don't know, but they wrote that law.
But that's not for some coaches, period, point blank. We
(38:23):
understand that. We know now in America some things don't
stand for everybody, just some people. But he did say
my staff did some things, guys, his stad did, organizing
prostitute parties, the legal payments, bringing people on campus, taking
(38:45):
them off travel list. Not one group of staffs, but two.
If that was said by Coach Patino when this happened,
and that he understood why he should be terminated, there
wouldn't have been all the animei what he said is
true his staff did those things, period point blank. But
(39:07):
at the time, mm hmmm, that didn't matter. I'm supposed
to keep this job and you are supposed to keep
paying you know, I'm supposed to keep coaching. That's what
he said. So at least now he has told the public,
which is all that I wanted to hear him have
him say, is that he has at least thrown his
staff like that. And he says under the bus with
the truth, they did things that were inappropriate that everyone
(39:31):
should have been fired over, period point blank. The Tom
Jurch piece understanding. But if the athletic director, the person
who's running the program can't see that you're hiring people
that are damaging the name of the program, he has
to be fired.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Guys, I don't you know.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
These rules and laws in America, and I think we
all know don't stand for everybody. It's not the same.
We always say, the cornerstone the Constitution with America makes
America different is that we're supposed to all have equal
unfair rights. Well, guys, I guess nobody's really gonna say
(40:11):
that anymore. Not really, we know that's not true.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
We just do so.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Coach, thank you. I appreciate it. We're gonna put it
to bed and we're going to go on from here.
So great job. God willing will be back, ac call me.
We'll be back tomorrow and you'll have a wonderful day again.
You're not fully dressed if you don't have a smile
on your face, he said, one more time. You are
(40:36):
not fully dressed if you don't have a smile on
your face.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Is it these words? Radio? Talk to you all later.
Bye bye.
