Speaker 1 (00:01):
You have to love the laugh. Welcome back to Eve's
Sports Radio. It is August the twentieth, twenty twenty five.
Phone numbers five zero two five seventy nine hundred. That's
five zero two, five seven one seventy nine hundred. Sports
Talk seven ninety KRD got Shennon behind the glass man
named the phones. And of course Wednesday for a lot
(00:25):
of people feels like it's Friday because you're halfway there.
So I know a lot of people love the hump
day because they're like, golly, two more days and I'll
get the weekend. So you're close. That's all that I
can say. I've never had a job like that where
Monday through Friday was my work schedule, truly, so I've
never felt that way about Wednesday, but a lot of
people do. It is Humpday, so welcome back. First and foremost,
(00:49):
my youngest son, Anthony is working today so he can't
be on with us. So I went and got one
of my reject assistant coaches. Oh excuse me, one of
my assistant coaches. I didn't say reject one of my
golfing buddies that I'm gonna bust when I come to
watch Louisville play Miami week six of the football season.
I want to bring on the one and only Scott
Bulwage to the show. Scott, are you well?
Speaker 2 (01:11):
You You've called me a lot of things, but never rejeck.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Well. It's better than Coach Beard called me. Scott. That's
all there is too.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
You called me a lot of You've called me a
lot of four letter words over the years.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yes, I know, I wasn't coach. I told everybody in
Coach crumbs better than I was. I tell everybody he
was the best of all time. That man was a saint.
That wasn't. I couldn't, Scott. I wouldn't been all the time,
only during the games and sometimes in practice. Come on, now,
be honest. That's all.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
No, you were. You were definitely one of the better coaches,
you know. I mean, I've worked for some some great guys,
and you know, I'll say. I was talking to one
of our former coach k the other day. We were
just talking about how self it was working for some
guys and some coaches, and how how these coaches nowadays
(02:10):
have it easy because they can coach. They can just
they can just tell the head coach. Yeah, I can't
make it in today.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
That wasn't gonna go for very well, was it, Scott?
About or two? If I was late, if I was
ever late going down Georgia Avenue at truly five four
fifty five five in the morning to open up those
doors so the trainer could take I know, coach would
have cut my throat. I'm telling you to take a
knife out and cut my throat. It just wasn't even
an option. Snowstorms, it didn't make I don't know why
(02:43):
assistant coaches and I was oneful Christ You take everything personal.
You just can't let it happen on your watch. Scott,
I don't care how bad it was snowing, raining, how
cold it was. I had open those doors. That's all
there was too. And it is what it is an
assistant coach.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Today. Yeah, the whole completely different world.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah. And they make a lot of money. I mean,
they make a lot of black commands. So you should
you know what you've done, you helped that?
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah? Yeah, No, And you know what they're They're creating
so many more positions.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Now, oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
I mean they have I mean they have social media coordinators,
they have the n I L guys, they have the
community development person on their staff. Now everybody has a
general manager as part of their their programs. It's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
It is. That's why I tell all my listeners, my
good friends, don't ever tell me players shouldn't get paid.
Don't ever tell me that. I'm okay with I told
people's guy. I was in every post office, you know.
I told my team guys, this isn't hard. This job is.
We should love what we're doing. It's I mean, what
a great job every post office in America. I've been
(04:07):
in for stealing money as a coach, but the bottom
line is, there is no way players shouldn't get paid.
No way, Scott. It's a billion dollar business. Billion dollars.
You got scrub coaches. I mean, honestly, scrub assistant coaches,
the fifth or sixth on the bench making three hundred
thousand dollars. Scot, Come on, man, I mean, like you say,
(04:28):
community development, It's like what, that's what the head coach
used to have to do, Scott. I had to go
out and speak at ID. It's like what, it's a
great world. I'm telling you what a great business that
we've been a part of. That's why I tell everyone.
No one will tell me players shouldn't get paid. No ad,
(04:48):
no president, no one, period, point blank, no one. It's
a joke. So but we've been part of this business. Guy,
it's been a lot of fun. What a great run.
But I appreciate you sitting in with us today. We
have a lot. Anthony. Uh, he's not in the corner today, Scott.
You know you were around when I used to tell
freaking Anthony was standing in that corner. You know you
(05:10):
were around. But don't tell people. Don't tell people to
be mad at me.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Did you ever did you ever get Anthony to show
you that video?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
I said, I said you all, No, he did not
have not I'm going to do that.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I want to tell you, and I'm gonna I'm gonna
ruin it for you, but I'm going to tell you
what it was. So it was it was a guy
beating his son with a belt, okay, And so he's
he's beating him, and he's looking at his swing, and
he's watching him, and he's like recording himself when he's
looking at his swing. And then he moves his son
(05:48):
to the side. Then he goes and gets his golf
club and he starts and he's like, I fixed my swing,
and then he goes and gives the son a hug.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Oh that's so bad, but so true. Oh yes, they
have been built in my house. I don't I'm not
gonna lie to people, Scott. I'm not gonna lie to him.
Forget and he got Spainkins. I'm not gonna lie. I'm
not doing I'm too old for that. People can just say, Jerry,
how bad person I am? Okay. That's all I can
say is okay. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.
(06:21):
But I'm not mad at your opinion. I understand people
do believe in standing in the corner and tie him
outs and all the good stuff. I'm not saying it
at work, Scott, I'm not. I just like my way.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
But yeah, I saw that video. I was like, man,
this was if this wasn't the Eaves household back in
the day.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
I gotta see that. I'm gonna post that, Scott. I'm
gonna get at that you to do. I'm gonna post that.
I can't wait. It is what it is, so study.
I'm gonna be honest. If my dad would have just
said I told George Williams since before, Oh, you have
to stay in the house for a week for punishment.
I wouldn't have known what I done with myself, Scott.
(07:03):
I would have just I would I'm just glad I
got a spanking and said get out of here. You
learn the lesson, now go I got your dad and
going about my dang business. I mean, come on, man,
it's just just oh my god. I don't know what
I would have done, but anyway, I'm gonna have to.
I will post that, Scott. You know Quesse, but Anthony
is not in the corner, Scott. He's at work, so
(07:25):
I don't want anybody to you know, he's past that now,
he's past that. So so Scott, you know what I mean.
You are, without a doubt, and you live in Miami,
you live in Greensboro, you live in New York. I
don't know what you do. You're like Tommy on the
Martin Show. You don't work for a living, but you
(07:45):
sure live good. So I'm telling you that I'm gonna
probably be coming down, Scott. Louisville plays Miami the six
week in football. I'm coming down, can't wait. I'm gonna
stead Turnbridge, Turnberry, excuse me, hotel that marry up right
there at the Rear Resort, which is not very far
from the arena from the stadium, and I'm going to
(08:07):
come to that game watch Louisville play. That's a big
game on Louisville schedule. I spoke about it quite a bit.
If they can pull that upset and there'll be a
top twelve I didn't say ten. They'll be a top
twelve team. They'll be six and oh and they'll be
in the conversation for the college football playoffs. A lot
of people get mad at me about that, Scott, but
that's just how the Chips fall with their schedule if
(08:28):
they do what they're capable of doing. Now I am tomorrow,
you'll be on with me tomorrow. I'm going to get
into Miller Moss. I'm not a huge fan, guys. Yes,
I remember when he played well against Louisville two years
ago in a ball game, Scott, but he lost his job,
That's all there is to it. He lost his job
last year, so he's been turning it over in practice
(08:48):
this year. So we're going to dive into Miller Moss
a little bit more because it's going to be imperative
that he plays well for Louisville. So Scotty, we're already
at seven fourteen, seven fifteen. So when we come back
and thought to you, you'll hit us with the national news.
Then we're going to get into our first topic of
the day, which is just gonna oh my gosh, you
(09:09):
talk about taking me to level ten right away. I'm
gonna let you do that after the break. This is
the Sports Radio pour numbers five zero two, five seventy
nine hundred. These got buwwage on the line. We've got,
of course, Shannon behind the glass. One and only. Everybody
knows Shednon from the Matt Jones Show, and he's the
best wrestler supposedly in Louisville. But he will fall one day.
(09:32):
One day, Shennon, she might be eighty. I don't care
how long I gotta wait, Shedding, I don't care, but
I'll get you. This is Esports Radio. We'll talk to
you after the break. Welcome back to e Sports Radio.
Seven eighteen. Yes, it is day Wednesday. Can you believe it?
August the twentieth, the eighth month. I told people, Scott,
(09:54):
I'll be singing Christmas songs. Before they know it, they'll
be turning off my shoul during that month. But that's okay,
that's okay. I understand. God, god it, it's unbelievable quickly
time has passed. But it is August and twentieth, Scott,
and we are, I would say, rocking and rolling. College football.
High school football starts as Friday. My bruins will get started,
(10:17):
and we've got college football this weekend, but just preliminary.
My contest starts next weekend. We've got huge games next weekend.
I mean Texas, Ohio State, come on, Scotti, Notre Dame, Miami,
come on, Scotti, Clemson, LSU. I mean, those are three
huge games. So it's here now.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
One thing with the big conferences, that's the one thing
I love with those big conferences. Now almost every weekend
you're going to have two top ten teams going at
each other.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yes, yes, absolutely important games don't have a lot to
do with the landscape of college football. So can't wait.
I mean, it's here now, it is. So anyways, Scott,
I'm gonn thought to you, what national news do we
have going on? Before we get into our first.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Topic national On the national side, I mean, anytime the
Yankees do something anything, they're always gonna make headlines. And
last night for the second time, most like this is
something that's almost unheard of one time in a year.
But the Yankees hit for the second time nine home
(11:27):
runs in a game.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Which is crazy. It's absolutely crazy. And to be awful,
lose his job. They're awful.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Yeah, but oh, I know, yeah, that's a whole other thing.
When they get when they get rolling, they they are
one of the best teams in baseball. And I think
they're just you know, and we know this from this
from coaching and everything. I don't want to say pacing yourself,
but making sure you're hitting your stride at the right
(12:00):
time going into you know, you got to make the postseason.
But if you can hit your stride at the right time,
and if the Yankees can find their stride as we're
going into the final stretch of the major league season.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Don't make the playoffs. I'm playing the Yankees are going
to make the playoffs, guy, no question.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, but you know, now, do you go into the
playoffs you know, limpin or do you go into the
playoffs where you know, rolling full steam and the.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Yeah, no, pitchings got they can hit the ball, they
always but they won't field it's got They won't run
the first base, the pitcher when they need to. In
the World Series, Boom just doesn't have them discipline enough
to win. They're talented, we know that. That's why if
hit nine home runs twice, nine home runs got Come on,
that's crazy. Who Carlos Stanton had two? Who else had to?
(12:51):
Someone else had to?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Of course Judge had won. I mean nine home runs,
it's just nine home runs is a month for some team, Scott.
I mean, just honestly, that's fifteen games. They hit nine
in one game.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
How many players don't hit nine in the season.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
No question. Hey, well, I'm gonna tell you one thing.
You may not know him, but Joydell from Louisville Ballard
is doing really well for the Angels. Had two home
runs last night against my Reds. Reds still beat them.
He Scotti right now, I don't talk about him because
I jinxed them, So I've left the Reds alone.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
But they're rolling here we are. I'm going to bring
them up.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
They won seven other last Yen's got sixty seven and sixty.
You've got to give him credit. That's all I'm gonna say.
I'm gonna say anything else. I don't say another word.
Keep the Reds out of your mouth. I just want
to keep them rolling, Jerry, don't you.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
I can talk about them. Yeah, No, they're they're playing.
They're playing very well. They when I was up in
New Jersey, they'd beat my mom's Phillies. I think they
swept the Phillies last week or two weeks ago. So they,
I mean, they're looking really good. Pitchings good good. You
know there again, they're a game out of the wild card.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Yes, one game out in fourth place. Three teams to
get in. They're in fourth right now, knocking on.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
They've got a good Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
I don't say anything else. You don't anything I haven't got.
I'm I'm trying. But you brought up the Yankees. So,
and there was two weeks ago the Reds and the
Yankees were tired. I think the Yankees are sixty seven
and fifty seven and the Reds are sixty seven and sixty.
So the Yankees went on a little run, but the
Reds are certain to bounce back. One seven in the
(14:35):
last ten. So congratulations, Francona's done a great job, new manager.
I mean, it is what it is. I want the
Reds to get in so bad. I do, but I'm
gonna leave them alone. I'm gonna take their name out
of my mouth. Continue with the national news.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
On the basketball side, John Wall, you know, officially announced
his retirement yesterday and we were talking, we were before
the show, and I think he's probably one of the
more underrated guys because he played on just a bad
team most of his career. Yes, and you know when
you when you have those guys that you know have
(15:14):
his talent and they play on a bad team, they
kind of get overlooked. But then you watch some of
his highlights and you're like, man, that boy could play.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
I mean, that boy could play from his.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Time in Kentucky, you know, the little time he had
at Kentucky, but then going into the league, the size
that he was at a point guard and the things
he could do. His athleticism was you know, I would
say this, you know, underrated and overlooked as a player.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Yes. Well, Scott, we watched him in high school, so
of course we got to watch him grow and he
was phenomenal. Then when he went to University of Kentucky
he really started to blossom. But Scott, you talk about talent.
You talk about speed, quickness, athleticism, I mean Rocky Rod
Foster was fast with the ball. He was not even
close to John Wallen close Fox, he is fast with
(16:03):
the ball. Fox is fast with the ball, but he's
still not John Wall. John Wall was another level Scott.
It's god. He just was unfortunate and played for the Wizards.
That's all I can say. That's all you can say.
He played for a bad organization. But my goodness, was
that boy good and he was a phenomenal talent scout.
(16:24):
There's no question about it. So congratulations to him. A
lot of people are wondering where he goes from here.
A lot of someone asked me, Jimmy Beverley, a friend
of mine, Jimmy, you're sick. Everybody knows Jimmy Bevley, he's sick.
Jimmy says, is he going to coach for coach Caliperry
or is he going to come back to the University
of Kentucky. I said, he's going with Swaggy Cow, and
(16:45):
Jimmy Beverley called him a trader last night social media.
I said, Jimmy, you're sick. He's going back with Swaggy Cow.
That's all in Arkansas. People hate me. They hate me.
But Caliperry and I go back when I was in
New Jersey coach Beett and I get fired. John caler
Perry gets the job. In years after that, as I
(17:07):
bounced back and forth between college and pro and so
did he. He said, Jay, you move around more than
I do. I said, not at the same price paid.
But I do move around just like you do. No forever.
He's just a good guy. John Caliperry is a good guy.
I don't care. It was time for him to leave Kentucky.
I said it was time for him to leave Kentucky.
After the opening loss, I said, it's time. And you
see what happened. Change the scenery, that what it's got.
(17:30):
How they didn't get to the final four, I don't
understand it. I just my goodness, he was so close.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
I want to tell you the first time I ever
saw John Caliperry and you can. Coach Key and I
talk about this all the time. We were together at
Schiwana University and we're at an event in DC and
he comes walking in the gym and I don't know
what it was, but I swear he had a glow
(17:59):
around he walked. It was like like Bruce Lee worrying.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
The last Dragon, no question, Swaggy cow Man.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
He had such a glow around him, like you couldn't
get close to him and you were just in all that.
He was in the gym and this was probably like
maybe like the around the U.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Okay a little little bit, but.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
You know, okay. So he just had that that that
aura about him when he was unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Does no cow does? That's just all there is. John
Caliperry one of the guys, I mean, one of a
Now Scott last thing. Now you can't leave out Hey,
we got Atlanta, we got to Tour Championship. And you
tried to say, well, no, I think I said Scotty
was on a tiger run and you said, slow your rope.
I said he was on a tiger and that jack
(18:52):
run and you said no. And I agree with that.
But he is still phenomenal. What's going on with that?
Tell him about some of the rule changes in the
Tour Championship.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
I would say the biggest change is they're starting everybody
on a level playing field. You know, the past couple
of years, I think the past six years they've given
an advantage to the player who was sitting number one
going into the tournament. And you know that's that's such
a crazy thing to think about, that you're giving someone
(19:23):
more of an advantage like Scottish Shepherd, who's on such
a role right now, that you're going to give him
a couple of stroke advantage on everybody else, Like there's
almost no way. I mean, that got me to think
it like every time we played, if I gave myself strokes,
you would never come closed to beat me on a
golf course.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I heard that it was a slowery mark. I want
people to know it was a slowery mark. I didn't
need to hear that. That analogy was not good. But
go ahead, I mean, I'm listening.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Now. Now that you know that it's a level playing field,
you feel like you have a chance, Like if we
go shot for shot, now you feel like you have
a chance have finally beating me.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
But Scott, I'm coming the same thing with.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Sheffler, like now everybody's got a legitimate chance to have,
you know, have a shot at that that it's a
ten dollars.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
I know, Scott, they're paying now, they're really paying. I mean,
there's live tours bouncing around. It was in Indianapolis last week.
It's trying to survive on dirty money, but it's trying
to survive. I would still take the money. I don't
want anybody Jerry's I would take the money. It is
dirty money, but I would take the money. I'm sorry,
(20:46):
I am sorry. Professional sports is about being paid, but
I don't like the way they go about it. But
without a doubt, someone would guarantee me x amount of dollars.
I would play golf on the live tour. So I
don't want to put myself above that. I hate it,
but it is what it is, the almighty dollar. So Scotty, look,
we're already at seven point thirty. We're gonna get to
(21:07):
our break again when we come back. There's some rumors
floating around, and I know you want to talk about that.
I've got to bring out the fire extinguisher and put
this out, says e Sports Radio one numbers five zero two,
five seven one seventy nine hundred. Well have Scott bow
waging myself back after the break. Welcome back to Eves
Sports Radio. Seven thirty four, twentieth of August. Got Scott
(21:30):
Bowweight sitting with me. Hey, Scott, I got to take
care of the little business. First, little business. Okay, there's
this guy, he's the dark side. We all know that
sant Xavier High School, Trinity High School in University of Kentucky,
that's the dark side. Scouy Louisville. W We're the right side.
Everybody understands and valid Nation is the only side. So
(21:50):
I got a cat. I don't know how he slipped
in my house. His name is John Carney Scott. He
took me too sant Xavier's practice last year. John, we've
got to go back, definitely, will let me in. I
don't know about you. You're a jinx. But we've got
to go back and watch practice at Santaxavier. But John's
coming in Carney's Galleries. They're coming into my laundry room.
(22:11):
The grout the tiles started to crack. The grout is
coming loose. The company that did it didn't do the
sub floor correctly. So John's coming in and to get
it straight at Carney's Galleries. And the problem is this
great company, great workers, I mean, they do fantastic work.
It's just John the owner guy. You know, when you
got a problem with a guy. You got a problem
with the guy. It just is what it is. So
(22:33):
John and I we just take me out of eye
for some reason. He likes to send me big new things.
I like to send him little things. We just don't
get along. But they'll be at my house today, so
I'm looking forward to that. They'll get the best. His
employees are the best. My mom loves me. You know
when your mother likes people. My mom likes me to
come to work. That's that says a lot. That's all
(22:56):
there is to it. So anyway, they're coming to get
that together. And of course everyone knows now that Town
and Country Bill Hayes is my number one sponsor. There
is no more bluegrass. I spoke with the Germaine group yesterday.
We're gonna go to lunch in the next two weeks
when they get back in town, sit down about a
sponsorship package. But counting Country, Billy Hayes, common love Dodge, Scott.
(23:19):
You don't know, you haven't seen it yet, but I
have a TRX truck. I don't know if people know
what they are, but they're the fastest production truck ever made.
You got me, Scott. They are race cars and I've
owned everything, you know that from Corvettes to Cobras, which
I still have my twenty twelve. And I love cars.
I do. I've spent too much money on cars, but
(23:39):
I don't care. Everybody has to have something, and who
doesn't like cars. I don't care what you say. If
you're getting afford them, you're gonna have a nice car.
That's all there is to it. So the bottom line
is about this truck, and I want people to know.
It's got seven hundred and two horsepower stocks. It is
a truck. I had furniture in it last week. I've
(24:00):
had motion. If you get in the interior Scotch, you
could get in it in a tuxedo, in your wife's
best stress. It is what it is. It's the best
period automobile I've ever owned. That you know, Billy Hayes
got me. Now here's the deal. I've had a lot
of cars found and bought. I've had a lot of
nice cars. But Chuck Kane, Billy Hayes's general manager, said, Jay,
I'm gonna find you the right one for the right price.
(24:22):
I said, okay, I said, you know they're advertising with me,
so you know I'm gonna go along with it. You know,
I'm gonna hit me to hit a little bit, Scott
It Chuck went and found me the best truck in
the country for the right price. My twenty twenty two
had twenty two thousand miles and every option that came
on it. I drove a twenty twenty four TRX. My
(24:42):
truck has options on it that the twenty twenty four
doesn't have at the right price. So bottom line, guys,
y'all need to give Bill Hayes, a town in country
coming of Dodge a chance. That's all I'm telling you.
Good people. So, Scott, what do we have? Man? Where
are we? Were we going? What's first thing? Though? So
what's the rumor you were talking to me about?
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Well, first thing is we got the Kentucky Kentucky State
Fair going on and I haven't had it. But like,
people say that the pineapple whipped ice cream is really good.
But then I've also heard a lot of people say
that did like your nineteen eighty Louisville National champion team
(25:24):
not that good compared to this year's team. So I
can you the spell some heir coach about the Scott
won the pineapple is the best?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
If you haven't ever had pineapple whip. You haven't lived.
I'm telling you go to the Kentucky State Fair. The
pineapple whip. It's got pineapple chunk Scott cut into cold
whipped ice cream. It is so good it's worth the
price of admission. That's first thing. Now, second thing, you
just rolled in that my nineteen eighty team wasn't as
good as did you say, as good as this year's
(25:57):
Louisville team? Is that what you said? What the is?
Speaker 2 (26:00):
That's what the that's what the rumor, and that that
rumor has reached down to Florida, so you know.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
What it's got. Scott, who you're talking to? I would say,
what are they smoking? But that's not enough. You couldn't
get enough. You couldn't get high enough to come up
with that. You said that you've heard the rumor. You
know it's so bad. I'm gonna be honest with you, guys,
I haven't heard the rumor. Jeffrey Howard, everyone knows. My
(26:29):
friend in Columbus called me two days ago and says,
I have a question for you. I said, okay, sure,
He says, I have a guy. His first name is Bucky.
I'm not going to say his last name, said that
this year's Louisville team would destroy your nineteen eighty team.
I said, oh, you're talking about the championship team. He
said yeah. I said, you said the team that had
(26:51):
Darren Grifforth on it. He said yes. I said, you
mean the team that blew out Ohio State, that had
Clark Kellogg and Herb Williams and Kelvin Ramsey, three first
round top ten picks. He said yeah. I said, you
gotta be kid, meet Scott. That's not a rumor. People
are asking me that now, so I just have to
(27:12):
let's just bring this to a Holt. Coach Kelsey has
done a magnificent job. He really has. And last year
I went in he Josh heard and I because everybody
thinks that I'm against the liver, which is just not true.
He says, there anytime you want to come to pay, anytime,
you just show up. I said, Coach Kelsey, I've been
a coach forever, and I just don't do that. Practice
(27:35):
is for practice. It's not a side show. You're trying
to get things done. But I appreciate it got me
and if I wanted to, and I think I'm going
to go to one this year because I do want
to see some of these foreign parts that they have.
For I'm from Germany. I want to see the big
Greek kid. I do want to see some of the
parts early. So I am going to take him up
and stick my head in once, no question. But I
(28:00):
just wish Louisville fans. This is the problem. I mean,
the scouttie louis The fan base jumps so fast, so
far that anything other than the final four, which is
what my neighbor Scott, his name is Graham Cops. He
told Anthony and I two days ago. He told me
two weeks ago, said publicly that Louisville's going to the
(28:21):
final four. So we're in front of malice yesterday or
two days ago. And I asked you, I said, what happens, Grant.
If they don't, then everybody's gonna be on Kelsey. They
weren't successful, they didn't do their job. John Wooden's the
one who said the best job he ever did. He
didn't win a NAST championship, and he's the best. I
don't care anyone says he was the best at this.
(28:42):
So fan base here in Louisville, guys pump the breaks.
Let the team develop, don't go so crazy with the hype. Yes,
Markel Brown, Scottie Junior, he's a really good player. I've
seen highlights, Scott. I've seen a few games. Okay, the
(29:05):
games that I watched this summer in the nineteen and under.
He had some very good stretches. He had some very
poor stretches. Do you understand me, Scott, Like all young players,
he had turnovers, he bad passes, pouted sometimes. Then he
made great plays, dunked on people, great passes, seen it all.
But they just straight up said he's better than Daryl Griffith.
(29:28):
I just want people to know Deyl Griffith was the
best player in the country and there were real players there.
Daryl Griffith could have gone to the ABA period right
away and started. Guys, let's slow down on what's going
on here in this city, and it's got You're not
the only one who's heard the rumor. It's come to
my doorstep, it's knocked on my door. So when you're
(29:52):
looking at the roster. I told Jeff to tell Bucky.
I know he will tell him that we had seven
NBA players or an NFL player. We had seven professional
Scott seven. That's crazy, and they've already wiped out all seven,
saying this year's team seven, I'm like again, fan base
(30:17):
here in Louisville be excited, no question. Coach Kelsey is excited.
I'm excited. I really am excited. I think it's gonna
be a great year, no question about it. But they
go so far, Scott, so fast, that anything other than
the final four is going to be a disappointment when
it's not. I don't care, Scott. If louis was twenty
and sixteen, they've improved from my man Kenny Paynes era
(30:41):
and Kenny Payn's my guy and not rolling over on it.
But that would have still be an improvement. And they're
still going in the right direction. But no, from last
year's enigma, guys, every shot went in got me, every
turnover went their way, when teams when they outscored teams
eighteen to two to come back and beat them, Everything
went right, Guys. That didn't happen every year. It just doesn't.
(31:03):
As you well know himcause coaching Scott. But I think
they have a good team. But I just want everybody
to know Daryl Griffith. Come on, guys, I'm just being honest,
when you're starting to compare eras twenty three NBA teams
twelve players on a team, not this thirty team junk
eighteen team traveling rosters. I don't know about twenty three
(31:26):
teams twelve on a team period, point blank, Scott, and
we still had seven pros. I think my bench pontre
Wright would have made the NBA, Honestly, in today's era.
Poncholl Wright was more talented than Derek Smith. Derek just
had so much true grit he could never get on
the floor. Pontre Wright would have played in the NBA
this era. I mean that. So I just want people
(31:47):
to slow their role, let the team develop, let them practice,
let them play some games. We do have challenging season, Scott,
which you know we're gonna talk about after the break.
Louis has got a challenging schedule. They have opportunities. Like
coach Kelsey said, he's not Ducky the smoke, he does
have a Denny Crumb kind of schedule to work. He's
(32:10):
playing good opponents earlier. I can't believe we're opening up
with Kentucky as early as we are. But still you
gotta play. We gotta play them. We opened up with
De Paul in the Hall of Fame game. I want
to say my junior season right after winning the National championship.
Coach Crumb didn't care. So we'll talk a little bit
about it. But Louisville fans, please don't be cowboy fans.
(32:30):
Don't be Dallas cowboy fans. Let the team grow and
improve and get together. But no, Scott, You're not the
only person. Jeff Howard, the gentleman's name is Bucky, said
that this year's team is better than my nineteen eighty
championship team. So Jeff calls him back and names Dereck
(32:52):
Smith pro. I'll talk about pro that played guys. I'm
not talking about pro that stuck their toey in, stayed
around a couple of seconds, has no schedule, has no scats.
I'm talking about a guy that played in every game.
Rodney McCrae every game, Daryl Griffith every game, Jerry Eves
every game, Scooter McCrae, Lancaster. I mean, okay, I'm not
(33:15):
gonna say Lancaster wasn't there yet. Scooter McCrae. Okay, Wiley
Brown Philadelphia Eagles, guys, we please Roger Berkman played as
much as some of the twenty thirteen national champions did,
and people don't want to get Berkman is due with
the Chicago Bulls. So guys, let's let this team develop
(33:36):
before we go crazy. When we come back, we'll talk
a little bit about the schedulescutch. But hey, don't sleep
on that pineapple wick. It's the best ice cream I've
ever tasted in my life. Eave Sports Radio, we'll talk
to you after the break. Welcome back to Eaves Sports
Radio seven fifty. Scot at seven fifties, show go so quickly,
but there are a few players, Scott, That's why the
(33:59):
excite when it's so high here. Ali Khalifa is now
eligible to play. Of course, played at b YU Bring
him Young University for coach Oak. The Kentucky Hitman's basketball
coach sixty eleven, is supposed to be a tremendous passer,
supposedly in great shape. Scott, what do you think about
U and Tho's team. The guard's got case and Pryor
(34:20):
coming back. I know Casey when he was a small kid.
His dad coached Anthony at Chicago State. I think that
he'll have a large impact what do you think of
this year's Louisville team.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
You know, I really think coach Kelsey has done a
great job on bringing in the talent that that they have.
The even though they're not comparable to your team, they
still you know, they'll do very well within the a
(34:53):
sec And you know they've got him predicted number two
behind Duke, and yes, you know they're they've got a
very good chance with you know, with Conwell coming from
Xavier and uh McKinley coming from Virginia. Right, so you're
bringing in some experienced players you know through the portal
(35:16):
that can help, you know, keep the momentum going from
last year. So I think they'll they'll do well. I mean,
they're international kids that they've brought in. You know, it's
it's going to be an exciting time for Louisville and
you know, the one thing fans have to understand, it's
great to have this excitement and this enthusiasm for your
(35:37):
upcoming season. But again, like you said, it's not going
to be a failure if they don't make it to
the final four.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Exactly, come on, you look at you look at failure.
Scott my Man said, they're winning it at least, Graham
Cox said Final four. The gentleman that talked to Jeffrey
Howard said, they're winning period, point blank. I mean, I'm, like,
my goodness, winning it. I'm not making this up, and.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
It's unfair to the to the players. Like, think about
the big difference between when you were a player and
now with all the social media, Like you can't hide anymore.
You know, you had a couple of publications that were
you know, back in the day, you had your local
(36:26):
newspaper and maybe national you guys are making you know,
the national headlines because you were really good. But outside
of that, like you had this, you didn't have the
social media where everybody had access to you, where all
the Louisville fans from all over the country have access
to you now. So it's there's so much more pressure
(36:47):
now just because you know a player, you know, if
he has a bad game, I can reach him on
his Instagram and tell me that he was terrible last night, right,
you know, So that's true. It's a different type of
pressure that these kids have nowadays that they have to
live up to.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
You know. Okay, but I got a question. I agree
with that, But Scotty isn't everything relative? When I was
playing the newspaper every day, the magazines pictures in it,
Coach Beard didn't get that kind of exposure, but he
got exposure. Isn't it all relative to the time? Coach
Beard had pressure he was in the newspaper. When I
(37:28):
came through McDonald's, all Americans scoot to mccraye, there was pressure.
Isn't it all relative to the time. If you didn't
live up to your McDonald's rating, you were talked about.
Isn't it all the kids today? Social media is what
they've been raised on. So I think it's relative. Scott. Yes,
it's more for us because we're old. But when I
(37:48):
was coming through Scott, when we started two and seven
at University of Louisville shopping during Christmas, people were yelling
at me in them all to get back in the gym.
I think it's all relative self, but I do want
people say it is more I but aren't the kids
used to it? It's my only issue from.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
A local standpoint, yes, you know, but again, if you
start out two and seven in this day and age,
then you'd have people that are out again in LA
and Washington who are Louisville alone that could reach out
to you and tell you new together.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
I got you, okay, just wonder I didn't know if
it was relative or not, but I agree to an
extent and grow up in it. There. It's what they've
done their whole lives. God, so it is part of them,
just I think. But I could be wrong. Yes there, Yes,
there are more people, but there's always been more people's
got each time it grows, each time, there's more, larger expectations,
(38:56):
more people know you. I mean, on and on and
on and on. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you're right again.
They just turn the phones off. Scott, turn your phone off, Scott,
turn your phone off? I mean, what would tell me
turn your phone off? Turning to turn this phone off?
Speaker 2 (39:15):
And then you know what? And here's the other thing though,
You know, guys start to smell themselves a little bit.
And when you start saying that you're good like they start.
Do they have the same work ethic? You know, it's well,
it's tough, it's a little tougher.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Well, tell them about your AAU and you'll be back
with this tomorrow. But I will say that to tomorrow.
We don't want to rush that Scott about what you
told the parents. I think it's a really really good point.
But yeah, I want you to tell that. I want
you to tell people, and I just want to see
what their answers are, because with these athletes, it is amazing.
Lousill scheduled Scott home match ups Boston College, Georgia Tech,
(39:55):
North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech Okay,
and road trip California, Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Pitt Stanford,
Wake Forest and of course they've got the Duke slate.
We do know that. So I mean, I'm hoping that
(40:17):
the a SEC has improved, Scott. I'm hoping that the
a SEC, thanks Jan, that the ac has improved. Got one,
that's Gott, that's all. I'm hoping the a SEC basketball
has truly improved from last year. But there's no questions
about that.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
I will say, they're non conference schedules tough. Oh yeah,
we'll get into Indiana, Memphis, Tennessee failure. That's a tough
non conference schedule.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
That is that is. I'm just glad to see you
take Indiana. I really am Scott it. I'll talk to
you tomorrow. Thank you for sitting in with me. Guys,
it's sports Radio. Like I tell you again, if you
don't have a smile on your face and not fully dressed,
your smile will put a smile on someone else's faces
the sports Radio. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Bye bye,
