Speaker 1 (00:02):
You have to love to laugh. Welcome back to E
Sports Radio, Wednesday, the twenty fourth of September twenty twenty five.
Of course I am the brand. This is the sports radio.
I've got Shannon the dude behind the glass. This is
Sports Talk seven ninety kr D phone numbers five zero

(00:26):
two five seven one seventy nine hundred five zero two,
five seven one seventy nine hundred. I've got to my
co host, as you all well known, Tuesday and Wednesday
is the one only Scott bo Wage, South Florida. Boy. Scott,
welcome back to the show. How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I'm doing?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Break today is one? I'm good. Sounds like you're in
a tunnel, Scott, get ready to take off. You need
to put your headphones back on. Sounds like Mickey Mouse.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Here you go.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Thanks, Sorry, as much better. Sound like Mickey Mouse. So look, Scott,
before we get going into this, I have to make
a really tough announcement for me. Yesterday after my show,
my really good friend Ron called me and said, Jerry,

(01:15):
have you heard the news? And I hadn't. He says
that Kyby Harrison to me, Walter Kbby Harrison to the world,
had passed away. Yesterday. So as soon as I hung
up with Ron, I started making my calls. First call
was to Gray Whitlock line was busy. Second call was

(01:38):
to Cindy, his sister. Line didn't pick up as she
calls me right back before I could leave a message,
Cindy's calling me back, so we spoke about what it transpired.
I kind of want to tell you all some funny stories, Scott.
I mean, but this one Cindy told me before I forget.
I want to thank everybody, Scottie Davenport, appreciate you reaching

(02:03):
out about my man. Kybby. Only knew Kyby eleven years.
Want people to know he called into my show. I
had never met Kyby Harrison personally. I had gone to
some bourbon games and Scott. When we won it nineteen eighty,
one of our Louisville teams played a softball game against

(02:23):
the better players Gaddy Harrison in the city and we
played against them. So I didn't meeting, but I didn't
know who I was meeting. Got me. But it was
just like a little charity to raise money. And that's
when softball was huge around here, Scott, and it was
a big deal. Coach Crumb the team. We had a ball.
You know, we couldn't hit the ball.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
They laughed.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
We had a great time though she was trying to
catch it knock it around with real softball players, and
they had a good time and we raised a lot
of money. But I didn't know who I was meeting.
But he called into my show, and this is when
I first came on. My high school head coach, Donnie
Sider was my assistant, and I just was like, man,

(03:07):
I think I'll give you all the wrong date, but
it is the twenty fourth of September. I'm sorry you all.
My mind's messed up. But he says, you know you
just spoke to We're in studio over off Newburgh Road.
I think no. He says that was a great athlete.
I said he was yep. I said he was a
really good player at Mel High School. I played basketball, baseball, everything, football.

(03:29):
I said he did. He says, yes, he says his
daughter Lisa Harrison. I said, oh, I've heard that name
with Alan Houston went to Tennessee. I saw a picture.
I'm like, yes, I saw Scott when we played at Tennessee.
Lisa's picture Kybby's daughter. I told I may have told
you was on the wall. I'm like, yeah, so I
knew she was. And she was from Kentucky. She was

(03:50):
miss Basketball and I knew that, but I didn't know
Kyby Harrison. I knew Lisa. So that's when Coach Saltier
put the picture together for me. Then after that he
would called in. I think he called in once when
you were on and you got to hear from him
just I mean a colorful person. Yes, colorful person. That's
all the best way to put it. Just colorful. So

(04:11):
he calls in probably three or four weeks ago, and
we had a big to do for his birthday. We
went he was in hospice care at the Swap Center
and everyone showed up and we had a ball and Scott.
That's when one of his relatives gave me the nineteen
eighty Ncuba Ncuba ticket Scott lower Level, Indianapolis. When we

(04:34):
wanted it was fifteen dollars. I've got the ticket. I
can't believe it. Gave me all kinds of memorabilia. But
we had a great time. We had cake, and we
had a great time. And Kyby wasn't doing well then,
but of course, like always, Kyby was going to put
smiles on people's face. And when he called in, I said, Kyby,
tell him what I said to you. Now, Guys, Kyby's
in the bed, sickness can be. Everybody's there, all his teammates,

(04:57):
his sister. I said no, no. I took a deep breath, Scott.
I said, I've taken up all the air. Now, Scott,
there's nothing but opportunity to be Kyby. You And I
told you I was gonna get a win. He told
everybody get out of the room. I wouldn't even get
this old one. And I mean honestly, Scott. The toughest

(05:20):
man I ever met. Car wrecks, ambulance recks, all kinds
of things. He used to come to my Simmons practices,
Scott at six in the morning. Now Kyby can't get around.
He was on a walker. He got up, he came
in the side door. It came to my game set
right on my bench. It would be the team. The
team knew Cobby as well as they knew me, because

(05:41):
Kyby showed up three out of five days a week.
Then he would go to Wagner's restaurant, Lee Wagner and
eat where we do our Derby shows. That's how I
met Lee Wagner. That's how I met Del Roman. That's
how I met all the horse people I know now,
Kenny mcpete, all the people that I know that take
great care of me at Derby Scott them all now right,
they've been on my show The Jockey's everyone cocks all

(06:05):
of them. Let's do Kybe Harrison. That's how I really
got introduced to the backside of Churchill Downs. And now
I broke kidding me Pete into the PGA tournament last
year's I mean, they're my guys now. Through Cobby, A
lot of things for my show came through Kyby Harrison.
So everybody, I mean, it's a sad time. We all understand,

(06:29):
you know, death is a sad time, but Cobby is
in a better place. Kyby they were wanting to take
his other leg yet diabetes. They were wanting to take
his other legs and Kyby Harrison I called him the
tank because he's the toughest government. He said, nah, Jerry
told Butcher and I he said nah. He says, I'm

(06:49):
not doing that. M h he says, I'm going out
my way and without a doubt, guys one of the best.
So I just want to read something. You always inducted
Softball Hall of Fame in twenty ten, but I want
to read something. One of the best all around athletes
to graduate from our high school, Kbby pitched five no
hitters in baseball. Scott and played on two consecutive state

(07:13):
championships in football. Drafted by the Minnesota Twins, he played
four years as single and double a baseball Goby struck
out Reggie Jackson. Just so you'll know that Scottie struck
out Reggie. I just want people to know Reggie did
not file tip foul tips Kaby. He put it, he
set him down. He begrand his great softball career in
nineteen seventy after serving in the Army, Appreciate your service,

(07:35):
Kybe Vietnam and the Korean Award. He played five years
with Louisville's powerhouse Jiffy Club that was the softball team
sky Kaby, in which he was three times name First
Team ASA Open All American, including nineteen seventy five when
he was the leading hitter batting point nine to zero six.
Gottie hitting twenty home runs and up lead his team

(07:59):
to the national championship. He was the first player to
sign by the Kentucky Bourbons Professional Softball League and played
and managed for six years, in which he won many honors,
including being named All Pro. He wanted to manage several
world and national championships and various softball organizations. He has
established himself as one as the greatest hitters in slow

(08:20):
pitch softball history, one of the outstanding managers. Scott, I
want people to know. See this is I want people
to understand as I got to know Cobby, and we're
all sitting think of this now. Through Cobby, you've got
Paul Horning, Cobby Harrison, Butch Beard little sorry Jerry Eaves

(08:42):
sitting at the Orioles, which you all know one of
my sponsors, one of my first sponsors, Vic Lorie the
Best and one of their restaurants. Just chopping it up, Scott,
we could have made millions if people were there just
to hear. But I want people to know. You know
that Cobby told me, and he says, Jerry, boy, when
I was young, I wasn't the best person in the world.

(09:03):
I wasn't. He said I was a bad guy. I said, copy,
I understand. I said I wouldn't best in the world either.
He says but you know, I did a lot of
things I'm ashamed of, And he says, but I did
a lot of things I'm proud of. And that's just
who he was. You know. He wasn't a perfect person,
but he was a good man. And once he said

(09:23):
he was going to do something, Scott, if he gave
you his word forget it, point blank, only thing would
stop him. If he died, he would do. And if
you didn't do what you said you were going to do,
oh no, he didn't that, Scott. He didn't like that.
That's why when he came to my practices, he says, Jerry,

(09:44):
my man, I really didn't even know what I said.
I thank you, copy, he says, No, you don't understand.
You owed your kids accountable like I did, and Scotty
I used to do. Think it a t I tell him,
shake my hand and tell me what you're gonna do.
I need to know right now we make in this decision.
You're quitting the team. You're on the team, but you're
gonna follow my rules, or we'll be friends and you
do it your way, but you won't be on the team.

(10:05):
But you're going to make a decision now. We're not
gonna go through. I get back with you tomorrow. Let
me talk to my parents. What you're gonna do to
be a grown man right here, right now, make a decision.
And you know, Kybe said, that's just he said, I
did it. I did it that way my entire life
as a manager says that just. He says, when I
heard you say that, you're my man. But oh god,

(10:25):
did we have great times. I had some great, great
times with Kybe Harrison. So, guys, I will give you
more information. Cindy is going to get me the information.
I'm gonna post some pictures that Miss Gwyn Blackburn had
of Kybe Harrison and a lot of our things. We
had a birthday party for Kyby in a sort This

(10:47):
was probably six or seven years ago before COVID and
we were at River Road Barbecues. Got it right there
on River Road, one of my sponsors. Again, I got
the best people in the world I do. And we
were doing the show live there and we had a
They were pitching horseshoes and Kyby then was still on

(11:07):
his walker and Kbby was there, and I mean people
were coming from everywhere, and I mean everywhere, and I
mean all his friends and when honestly, here comes Scotty
down before. Everybody know Scotty and I coached for coach
coming together. We've known each other forever. Scotty was great
coach at Ballot High School, state champion hold nine yards,
did a great job at Belaman. Just retired, right and
I said, Tobby, we got Scotty coming across the street

(11:30):
from the hotel on the other side of the road.
There was no parking where we were. Scotty came in,
gave Kbby a big hug. I mean that's just who
Kbby was, period, point blank. And I mean people loved him.
They loved the guy. So walk Derrison, nothing but air
an opportunity between you and I and I'm gonna see

(11:53):
you another day. Brother, I'm gonna see you another day.
But I'm gonna leave you with this. After he came
on the show, and I want people to understand, he's
been incoherent for a week or two because they had
him so drugged up for the pain. Guys, I couldn't
believe he did the whole show. Scott. He called it
and did the whole show.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
But he said the funniest thing, Scott, I'll be world
LIFEHDI so we're talking about, you know, being bad and
Scotty I took sodas out of the soda machine.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I told people I was bad. But when I got caught,
my dad always told me, don't lie. Tell the truth.
You're not perfect, but just tell the truth. Don't lie.
Nothing worse than a liar, that's all he said. Nothing.
He says. You can be bad, just don't be a liar.
When I when you're caught, say you're caught. Okay. So
I got caught taking the sodas out and Pat Crawford

(12:44):
asked me a long time ago, call your dad or
take three licks three thirteen thirty, Cobby said, saying thing
with my dad. He said, I don't care what anybody
did to me, just don't call my dad. I mean
we had that in common period. No I took those licks,
I Pat profect. It's not all happy as a lark.
Just don't call home. It's got it, he said. I said,

(13:05):
but you remember what Dale Romans told us, and he's
the winning this trainer. You may not know Del Romans
and this guy, but he's the winning this horse trainer
in Church of Down history. He said. His dad always
told him because he came up the same way. We
can be dumb, we can be stupid, but you know what,
we should all get an A in conduct. So that
was our motto between Dale. I said it on my

(13:27):
show thousands of times, Cobby and myself. We all had
Chucker pass Scott. Everyone did super well for themselves. But
you know, kids can always get an A in conduct.
That's what all parents should demand. Is that a in conduct?
And he says on the show, and I'm wind it
with this, you will He says, Oh yeah, Jerry, I

(13:48):
love school. He said, I didn't like those classes, but
I did have one class I loved. I said, okay, Cobby,
what was that class? He said, sex education class. I
was in there with all the women. I I'll think
about it all the time. I'm like, Tobby had never
said that to me before. I mean, oh, I mean

(14:10):
we've had nights before, Scotty, we've had lunches before. I mean,
we've been with everybody in the city. Oh my gosh.
When he said that, I just died laughing. And I
just remember that. I'll never forget that. I'm gonna have
to find that show. Share, I have to find that show.
I'm gonna have to play that tape because people will
die here in that. So, guys, we lost a great one.

(14:32):
I'll give you more of the true details where and
how when Cindy gets them to me. And I appreciate
everybody reaching out to me about the great walk to Harrison.
Thank you Ron for letting me know because I may
not have picked up the phone for other people, and
I really appreciate that. And after that, you know we're here.
Coach Beards just wanted me to make sure let the

(14:55):
family know he's thinking about them. And guys, we had
some I wish could have heard the Paul Horney, the
Oriols on Backster Avenue. Oh my god, butch Beard, myself,
Kybe Harrison and Dale Roman Dale was there. Oh we
had a ball. We had a ball. You should have
seen people walking in scott They were looking at Paul.

(15:17):
They were like the go by. They came back Horny yup.
He signed their autographs. I mean, come on, man, you're
talking about legends, all the pictures and it was just amazing.
So anyway, guys, we're at seven twenty two. I could
talk about Kyby forever and I'm not going to do that,
tough man. That's all I can tell you, tough Man
is the sports radio. When we get back, we'll get

(15:38):
back to sports after the break. Welcome back to the
sports radio. Yes, it is the twenty fourth of September.
I just hate it. Yeah, as I do. That was
my guy Cobby. Everybody, you all don't know. Personal joke though.
My wife heard Cobby, but she thought we were saying Hobby.

(16:00):
So she called Kabby forever Hobby and kbby probably a
year or two in if said, hey, baby, you keep
calling me Hobby. She said yeah. He said it's Cobby.
She would oh. He said, don't you worry about it.
Cobby loves Sheila. She he loves Sheila. Boy, he said,
I don't care. He said, I'm gonna kill you, but
your wife's the best. I said, I know, I know
Hobby Hobby. So anyway, Scott, before we jumped into sports,

(16:24):
we got our first caller. We've got to get the
games in again. We know Georgia and Alabama is the
game at Georgia. We've got Kentucky, South Carolina, Louisville, Pittsburgh,
you l s U at Ole, Miss Oregon, at Penn State,
Happy Valley. So let's get with it. Mary welcome to
you sports radio. Are you I'm good?

Speaker 4 (16:46):
How are you doing, Jerry?

Speaker 1 (16:48):
I'm good. You want of my winners. I hate to
tell you I paid my Dann college roommate. I didn't
want to give Martin a dying, not a dime, Mary,
He's a valid bruin. I didn't want. I shouldn't have
paid the boy. I just shouldn't. That's all I should reade.
But I paid him, Mary. But you're one of my winners.
I said, you're trying to get more money. Well again,
all I can tell you is Billy Hayes has given

(17:10):
it to me to give you. Also, go by and
see them great cars, great people. That's all I can
tell you. Ask for Chuck Kane drive, Chuck crazy, Chuck smooth.
You ever gonna meet Chuck. It's funny and the car
business people are really excitable. Chuck's real spooth. He's a matter.
You're a pretty well I know of town and country,

(17:31):
but he kind of takes He took care of He
got me my Ram truck, so he can do anything.
With Chuck. You'll be surprised when you meet him. Just smooth.
But anyway, Mary, let's get with it. We've got the games.
The game that counts is Alabama at Georgia. Who you
going with?

Speaker 4 (17:49):
I have Alabama twenty eight and Georgia thirty.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Oh okay, I've got it. Fifty eight total points. You've
got there right, Well, you're my six. Anthony, my insurance agent,
I have two. Stephan Mac was supposed to have called
in today and giving you on another idea too about insurance,
but he's not doing well. But Anthony, my partner in Kentucky,

(18:15):
he texted me his yesterday or emailed me his. So
I want people to know get them in. You have
to call every other week or get them in. Okay, Now,
all you have to do is give me the winners
Oregon at Penn State. Where you take it?

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Mary, I'm taking Penn State.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Okay, all right. James Franklin, you've got lsu Kelly Ole,
Miss Kiffin, two big name coaches.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
M I have ls G winning overall. Miss you do.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Well.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
I picked them. The only reason I picked them is
because my grandson is a big LSC fan and I
picked it for my grandson.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Well, you probably win. I now that we know that
Clemson that is one in three is not the power
that we thought. It's taken away from one of their wins.
One of l issues signature wins was beating Clemson the
first game. Well, now we see after Syracuse went to
Clemson and beat the brakes off of them, Mary, Clemson
is just not that good. So I'm the jury's out.

(19:24):
I might be leaning with old miss it old miss myself.
Let's go to the next one. Louisville at Pittsburgh, first
true road test, first true test for University of Louisville.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
That's true. I have Pittsburgh winning that one. I just
uvel schedule is not very strong so far, and I
don't think they're as good as everybody thinks they are
because the Haam's lighting by.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Well, I have a better idea come this Saturday, and
you're not the only one. Honestly, I've got or Pittsburgh
three Louisville, just to let you know, a lot of
people think that could be an upset. I just don't know.
The jury's out, Mary. I've been to two of Louis's games.
I didn't make last weekend's game. I had to do.

(20:13):
I was doing things with Simmons, getting our chairs together.
Our new chairs were hosting the tournament, so Tony branch
and I. We were busy, but this is a big
game for Louisville. I think if Louisvill wins this one,
they'll be undefeated going into that Miami game. And I
do believe, like I told people, if they win this
one and Virginia at home, they're ranked and they get

(20:34):
a chance to play Miami. And we do know Miami
and Florida State play next weekend, so we're gonna there's
gonna be someone with one loss out of those two
teams next weekend. Kentucky South Carolina at South Carolina.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
Mary, I had South Carolina winning. Now with Kentucky, Okay,
I got you.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
That's pretty much where everybody is gone. Anthony. Of course
the Wow Cat did not. He picked his team, but
most people have taken South Carolina. So Mary, I've got you.
I hope you win. I don't want I'm never paying
your husband. He's one of those people that never gets paid. Oh,
let me tell you this, and then we got to go, Scott.
I got it to you this, Mary, this is the truth. Yesterday,

(21:17):
my brother and I are going to get my mom
her dinner. We're going to outback and I'm stopping at
Low's will I run in to get some grass seat,
I put it down in my yard. Mark got my
yard looking good. Don't listen to your thank you for
the rain guy. Welcome back, Scotty. Sorry about that technical
difficulty in my computer it drops Scott, so Mary, I

(21:37):
sorry about that, but I do have your scores, so
we've got you in Mary. And all that I said
is that, after all I lost you all this, that
we lost a great win in Kybie Harrison, and I
was going to throw it to you Scott's for national news,
but we've got Sleepless, and I've got to get him
on because Sleepless is busy driving and he can't drive
and talk at the same time. So Sleepless, welcome to

(21:59):
Eastports rate.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
How are you.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
I'm doing great, Good morning to everyone. Sorry to hear
about Cobby, no.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Question, as you well know what a character. Here's the deal, Sleepless.
You know you're Florida State Seminoles are playing better this year.
I'm going to leave you alone, give you some respect.
We'll see what happens next week when they play Miami,
see what kind of team they are. But they're playing much, much,
much better. So congratulations to Florida State. Now, let's get

(22:26):
with it. Alabama Georgia. That's the game that can't. Let
me have.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Let me have Georgia thirty to twenty five.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Oregon at Penn State. I do not, no, no, that's
twenty five is the first one.

Speaker 5 (22:42):
Give me Oregon at I don't believe in Penn State.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
I don't either. I'm sorry. Until they win a big game,
I just don't. LSU at Ole Miss. Give me an
old miss.

Speaker 5 (22:53):
I don't believe in LSU either.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well, after the Clemson wins, not a big win anymore.
It's not Louisville Atsburgh.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
Give me Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Kentucky at South Carolina, Oh.

Speaker 6 (23:09):
My gosh, I can't believe this. I don't I think
the I think the game's gonna be too big for
a UK's quarterbacks. So I'm gonna go with South Carolina.
I want to pick the UK, but I don't. I
don't think they're gonna get it done.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Okay, got you sleepless, you'd be safe about there's raining
out there. I want to thank you, thank you. There
are a lot of wrecks already. Yes, you be careful
if they're sleepless. And yes, you heard that on the
travel report later. There are a lot of recks out there,
so be careful going into work. Slow down. So all right, Scott,
I'm throwing it to you National News. What's going on.

Speaker 7 (23:42):
Man, there's a lot going on, and we will not
mention anything about the team across the river when it
comes to baseball.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Keep keep them out of your mouth, Scott, as soon
as you brought keep them out of your mouth. My
rids went down last night. Keep them out of your mouth.
That's all I can say.

Speaker 7 (24:05):
Nope, I'm that guy. Now I'm not. I'm not saying anything.
Yankees clinched their playoff spot and they man, we were
talking before, and this was their first comeback win when
trailing in the ninth inning since July, which is crazy.
And there's supposed to be one of, you know, the

(24:25):
better teams that everybody I would say, looks up to,
but you know, one of the better teams in baseball,
and this was our first comeback win since July since
mid July was a solid you know, two months of
just not being able to come back and get a
win late in a game. So they've clinched and you know,

(24:49):
the yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
I'm sorry you all. I gotta read this. This was
yesterday at seven am. Not j for the love of God,
quit pulling for the red Mike. I didn't do it,
Scott did. I didn't do what I mean, Scott, I
sent it to you. Do not Jinxes, but the love

(25:12):
of God, quit pulling for the Reds. And you see
what happened when you said their name?

Speaker 7 (25:18):
I did?

Speaker 1 (25:19):
You did, so, Mike, don't put it on me. That
was Scott. Quit pulling for the Rints. We've got five games,
we need to run the table. Let's just leave it alone,
leave it alone, so continue. I'm sorry. I didn't do it, Mike.
That's all I can say. And I didn't do it.

Speaker 7 (25:39):
You know that's a that's the thing. But you know
you talk about the job that you know the new
new manager's done there. I dorew a blanket the name,
but you know he's done a great job.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Friend ConA and.

Speaker 7 (25:54):
And I just didn't want to say the wrong name.
But you talk about, you know, coaching and doing a
great job. Then you flip over to college football where
they made a move over at Oklahoma State and get
rid of after a one and two start. You know
they got the organ early, and you know it's just

(26:16):
it's just tough in coaching when you when you lose
your team, especially early, it's tough to get them back.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
He never had a team. They're awful. Sure, they're bad,
that's all there is to it.

Speaker 7 (26:30):
Yeah, they were really good, so you know, And and
again I get tough, very tough situation for him. He
only had a fifteen million dollar buyout. I don't know
how he'll survive exactly.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
I say that again. I want to know before anyone
says athletes are being paid. He just had what a
fifteen dollars buyout? Scott, what's his buyout? What's he leaving with?

Speaker 7 (26:56):
Had a few zeros? Fifteen million, fifteen million dollar million.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
That's why people hopefully he'll survive, Hopefully he'll be able
to make it exactly. Yeah, you'll never hear me. Athletes
should be paid fifteen million to lead. That's a great gig,
that's all I know. So anyway, he'll find another job,
which which we all do. We've all been firing our business.
That is not a slap guys in the sports business.

(27:24):
Now we all get fired. That is part of the business.
Blow on the ink on your contract because you're it's
gonna expire. That's all there is to it. It's gonna expire.
But okay, Scott, the Evan Gundy is out. What else?

Speaker 7 (27:39):
Yeah, I woon't coach. One thing coming me, coming up
as a younger coach. One thing that always kind of
stuck out with me. And like as we were talking,
you know, you said, you're either gonna get you know, fired,
or you're gonna leave on your own and find a
new job. And so you you better do things you're way,

(28:01):
because if you don't, then you're gonna have a lot
of regrets as a coach because you gave in to
what other people were saying and you get away from
your own, your own principles, and you know, doing things
your way because so you can at least whether if
you get fired, you walk away with your head held high,
say and I did it my way, and I can

(28:24):
learn from those mistakes I made for the new job
that I get. So you know, he'll, like you said,
he'll end up, you know, bouncing back somewhere. Somebody will
hire them somewhere and help me.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Not No, it's got you have to do it your
own way. And you may have forgotten. I think we're
at Campbellsville somewhere, and it was our third year. We
won three games our first year, six or second. We
were really really talented our third year. But that's when
I started drug testing our team, as you well know,
and I was losing them like crazy. And in the
locker room after one of the games, I asked them, guys,

(28:56):
if you're not gonna stop smoking marijuana, but you just
tell me now so we can move forwth. The g
guys that are gonna do it right, we'll go forward.
The guys that aren't, you all to go away, but
we gotta make a decision. You have to do it
your way. And then what was it six seven years
later when I get fired, But Scott, I had no regrets.
I love North Carolina and to one reason, one reason only,

(29:16):
I did it my way. Always. I did it my way,
period point blank. And I've told people my Simmons team,
people that work for me, you know this. If I
can't sleep overnight, there's gonna be a decision made that morning,
period point blank. That's all there is to it. Coaches,
staff players, If something upsets me to where I can't

(29:40):
sleep that night, you can believe I'm gonna make a
decision the next morning. That's all there is to it.
It's not gonna linger not a second. All these coaches
we're gonna make a decision down and I have no
idea what they're talking about. Mm hmmm. That was the
Frank Ease and me. We will make this decision now, period.
We have to make it now. So you're one hundred
percent right that, but then you will get another job

(30:02):
talking about okay. Oh oh, Scott, I can't even believe
everybody wants my money. Thank you, Shennon. Bring on the
next caller. Yes, it's to my wife, Sheila. Why do
you I just gave Martin Dunbar fifty dollars you want
my money to Yes.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
It's all the way I can get it, so I
guess I'll go ahead try to get it.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
That's true.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
That is okay, Yeah, let's get with it. The game
that counts is Alabama Georgia. What does your score?

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Okay, where's the game being played?

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Georgia between the hedges Athens, Georgie.

Speaker 6 (30:51):
Okay, I'm gonna go.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
I'm gonna go with Georgia.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
I don't know if to score. The taken uh is
twenty eight twenty five taken.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
Twenty five is thirty two twenty five, twenty eight, twenty six,
thirty four bus where y'all get so close? Y'all in
the twenty seven twenty three? What was that score? Getting?

Speaker 4 (31:11):
No?

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Twenty eight twenty five? Is that what you say I
can do?

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Twenty eight twenty four is taken twenty eight twenty four.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
I don't know if you can do that either. Twenty
eight twenty thirty one, twenty four, Yes, because Steve has
twenty eight twenty five. Yes, you can do that, So
you want twenty eight twenty four? Correct? Yes that Georgia Okay? Yes, okay.
Who's winning between Oregon and Penn State?

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Oh gosh, Oregon?

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Okay? Who's winning between lsu at Ole miss Ole?

Speaker 4 (31:52):

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Layne Kiffon gets it done. Louisville at Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Oh gosh.
Louis was gonna be picture all. LOUI was gonna be
undefeated going into the Miami game. I told you all
that before the season started. You're gonna start to listen.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Well you know that.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
Okay, late too late, too late. Don't change. I could
be wrong, don't change. I could be wrong. Don't change
on my cord. You got Pittsburgh, think about it. You
gotta day. I'll let you change it later, but don't
change on my court. Kentucky and South Carolina.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
I'm gonna go with South Carolina.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Okay, gotcha, gotcha? No, it's and Louisville could lose. I mean,
they haven't played anybody, so this is the first game.
I just said before the season started that I thought
louis would be undefeated going into the Miami game. And
we'll find out Saturday if that can happen. So anyway,
I got you down, baby, Thank you? Okay, thank you?

Speaker 4 (32:52):
Let me Bye've got bye.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
She's got. Everybody wants fine, it's pitiful. Everybody wants my money.
It's not my money. That's all I can tell people, Billy, Hey,
you see what you started. People are gonna be walking
up to you saying up the antie, Billy, you better
stay out of the city. Okay. That's all I can say.
We're gonna get the brand. In our last caller before
we go to our last break, Brandon, Welcome to the

(33:17):
sports radio. Are you what's going on?

Speaker 2 (33:20):

Speaker 7 (33:30):
Going five and no, that's just.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
Five miles in the rain. I want five miles in range.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
Get for your money, I said, He.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Says, I do it.

Speaker 7 (33:39):
I'm doing. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
We gotta be for lunch. Boy, I love you. We
gotta be. I really do need to be. We gotta
meet for lunch one day. Okay, let's get it. We've
got Alabama, Georgia. George is the better team. Kirby is
the best. Kirby Smart's the best coaching college bas football.
Excuse me, no questions like my mainly course, I would say,
not so fast, Jerry, not so fast.

Speaker 7 (34:06):
I don't think Jordan is a better team. I think
Judi and Bama off. Florida State's lost and they don't
understand how good Florida State is. Let's go Bama twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Fooh man that yes, let me see you may be
him money, move you the money, the first Alabama. I
think you're the first Alabama. Yes, know when you're the
first Alabama winner. Okay, got it, there you go. We'll
find out Oregon at Penn State ranked opponents everywhere, ranked opponents.

Speaker 7 (34:41):
I know it.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
That's a good game to throw in there.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
I like, I mean, you gotta go with the home team.

Speaker 7 (34:46):
I think I gotta go a home team. Let's go
Penn State.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Okay, got you, James Franklin. We'll see if he gets
it done for you. I've seen his fans so upset
with James Franklin in the fourth court, haven't you, Scott.
You get just seen an her face is so frustrated
on the play cars. They just don't know what to do.
He wins, but just not the.

Speaker 7 (35:05):
Big wins at home. He done at home?

Speaker 1 (35:09):
He does, he does win at home. L s U

Speaker 7 (35:13):

look impressive.

Speaker 7 (35:21):
I'm gonna go at.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
Home Oh Miss.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Honestly, after the Syracuse game, that's deluded LSU's big win
at Clemson and asked Syracuse went to Clemson breaks beat.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
The brakes off of I mean they struggled with Florida.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Yes, oh there did, no question they did. LSU did Louiso,
but Florida's improving Louisville Pittsburgh.

Speaker 7 (35:44):
Oh, go Cards, Come on, go cars. I can't believe
you did your wife that way. I cannot believe you
did her like that.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Caught up, Brandon, I am the one I don't buyck
off Scott. Before the season started, I said Louisville would
be undefeated went into Miami. You know I did, Brandon, Stop,
now you know I did. I think I'm gonna be
right on that prediction. But here's the problem. After we
get yours, when we get the break, we're gonna talk
about the dilemma of the a secs. And again, Brandon,
I told you it's important that the league's good. We're

(36:12):
gonna have. What loss between Miami and Florida State next
week got me one of the team is gonna have.
It's gonna be important. It was them the gonna run
the table. They have to beat Miami at Miami. Then
after that they don't play a ranked the pony. But
that's after the break. We're gonna get into it. Kentucky
and South Carolina. Where are you going with it? High? Oh?

Speaker 7 (36:31):
Gang talks all the way. There's no way I'm taking the.

Speaker 5 (36:35):
Blue No way.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
We got you down, brother, We got me for luck
five miles in the rain. God bless you boy. Scott,
got to see you, man. That's crazy, Scotty. I like that.
See that's my rocky theme music. That's all. I'm not
coming for Shannon anymore though. We're Shannon and I have
left Shannon. He's here too many people in the ring,

(37:01):
and my back's already bad, Shannon, So I'm not messing
with you. Shannon. Take us to break. It's he Sports
Radio seven to fifty one. We won't have long when
we get back. Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio. Guys,
got we got about two three minutes. Mike, call me
back tomorrow. I've got Joe on the line. Joe, Welcome
to Esports Radio. How are you? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (37:20):
I just came out of planting this fitness so I
couldn't get all the way into your show. But I
like to make my scores.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
There you go, let's get with it. Georgia Alabama, Oh, Georgia, Georgia, plane.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
At hall Man.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
I need to score. I need that score. It's only screare.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Oh yeah, yeah, twenty one to nine. All Alabama to
do is get three field goals.

Speaker 1 (37:39):
Okay, I don't even have to check that score Oregon
at Penn State, Oh, Oregon.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
They took quick and fast man.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
Okay, that could be the game. Lsu at Ole Miss Oh.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Miss Defterite the old Miss.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Louisville at Pittsburgh, Oh Louisville. Kentucky at South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
That's gonna be a good one here. Kentucky doesn't have
a week over rare from going with Kentucky.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Yes, you're gonna go to Kentucky as watch Joe, I've
got you down twenty one to nine. You're the first
person that has thirty points or less. So no question.
Everybody's even my wife. Everybody seems to pick the same scores.
Got joke, but most Martin Dunbar was the lowest last
week in one. Mary was the lowest week before that

(38:29):
in one. I don't know why people are always the
scores are so similar, but they're not the ones that
have been winning. So you might have a shot. I
herr gey, I like that, mad Albert, you're going back
to my time. Hey, hey, hey, Scott, you don't know
anything about that, Joe, Yes, Scott, you're talking. You know
about that, Albert? Thank you, Good old day, Scotty. You

(38:54):
know the show's over. We don't have long. Here's the deal.
We didn't get talked about yesterday today, but I'm gonna
tell you one thing. I'm really questioning the Baltimore Ravens,
and the bottom line is the discipline factor shows up.
I know that injuries, but I don't care. Detroit ran
over them, Scott, I mean legitimate ran over them. When

(39:17):
you've lost three games and your lowest output is thirty
points and you're one and two, it doesn't I don't know.
Last year they turned it around. This Kansas City Chief
game this weekend, guys, Ravens go one in three. I
don't think they make the playoffs. We have to wait
and see. I know. That's why this is a huge

(39:38):
game with teams that are one and two that are
both usually perennial powers. We'll talk to you after next week, Scott.
Be safe, talk to you later Eastwarts Radio. I'll be
back with you, God willing tomorrow. Bye bye,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
