Speaker 1 (00:01):
Yeah, I have to love the laugh. Welcome back to
Eve's Sports Radio This. It is Wednesday, Imday, November nineteenth,
twenty twenty five. Overcast, stark outside, but it's still the
ground's wet so we got a little rain last night.
My trees needed it. So be safe again. Leave on time.
This these words radio phe numbers five zero, two, five, seven,
(00:24):
seventy nine hundred. It's Sports Talk seven ninety KRD. I've
got Shannon behind the glass. Yes, I'm calling in on
my phone line. Take a good difficulty, but we'll work
through it. I think we'll be able to get it
resolved at the break. So I don't sound as good.
I know I look good, but maybe I don't sound
as good as I usually do. But welcome back to
the show. Even to the Kentucky fans after last night's game,
(00:48):
oh boy, we'll dive into that. But first and foremost,
let me bring on my co host. We all know
got Bo Wate.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Listen.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
I don't know where he lives. He's like Tommy on
the Martin Lawrence Show. He has no job. I don't
know what he does, but he lives really good.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Well, just show Scott, are you and don't don't hate
my life, coach. No, I mean I was thinking that
that laugh is the same laugh I make when you
get close to beat me on the golf course and
you're like, oh, I'm this close. I just give you
that laugh.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
You didn't give me that laugh last time we played.
I beat you on the golf course.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
You cheated.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
I cheated.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
You cheated.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Oh my goodness, Oh what did I do? Scott? What
did I do? Tell everyone? What I did?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
It was a par five. You you almost hit you
almost hit a house out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
You okay?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I did okay initially, Then you you hit the ball
into the shrubs, get get caught there. Then you hit
the ball into the water, and then you walk away
as I'll take an eight.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
That's what you do, Scott. You don't hold up play.
You take three strokes over. I took an eight. That that.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Have you seen the new PGA rules? Oh my gosh, here, okay,
that that that specifically say for that for the common golfer,
double pung and walk away.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
I've never heard that. I've never heard that. I've never
heard that around around. Well, I'll tell you they just this.
Let's go to this. There was nine hoes that we
played correct? How many holes out of the nine did
I win? How many times did I t y often?
You all watching it? That's all I know. Mm hmm,
(02:49):
don't you after the folks. First hole when Mike hit uh,
the second hole was mine. I hit my wood off.
The third hole was mine. It all. The fourth hole
is the part three I parted. I hit my pitchure
with Scott. I rolled until the part the part five,
I dues it. I play the whole and still tied
you on it. Come on, Scott, I rolled. That's okayto Scott,
(03:13):
I'm coming for you. Now, here's the deal. Everyone knows
Louisville at SMU, Kentucky at Vanderbilt is the game that counts.
And I mean, I've got them rolling in on my email.
I've been letting you slide because we're busy. Still got
to call in people, got to hear you score something.
But I have quite a few that rolled in yesterday.
(03:35):
So I just want you to know I've got from
so you'll know. I've got Vanderbilt thirty three, Kentucky ten, Charlie,
I've got Vanderbilt thirty five, Kentucky fourteen ac. I've got
Kentucky thirty Vanderbilt twenty nine. I've gotten all kind of
scores just so you all know. I'm getting everything through emails.
(03:57):
So this game is what I want, Scott. It's going
both ways. So when people understand I want Mike to
go back, Mike's my man, but I want them to
understand you're trying to win the money. So I'm going
to choose the toughest game, Scott, for people to pick winners.
So it's split down the middle, because that's what you want.
You don't want everyone to be nine. Everyone picks one team. Okay,
(04:19):
the one person that picks it right, that's an advantage,
but you want to split it up truly. When you're
trying to win the money, you want to make it
hard on people. So anyway I'm getting in the scores,
I just want people to know. Phone lines are open.
We've got the game from Missouri and Oklahoma, USC at Oregon,
Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech will get into the football and
(04:41):
all those things now, and what's going on with the
new college football playoffs. We'll do all those things today. Also,
here's the deal, Scott. I want all men, I mean,
I want all men to truly stand up. We got
to rise up. We got to rise up. Scott telling you,
I know my wife hit me with a sledgehammer on
(05:02):
my on my back last night.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I know she did.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
She beat me. I'm asleep. I'm telling you. She put
koolaid on my eyes so I couldn't wake up, and
she beat me. Scott. I woke up to turn my
alarm off and couldn't move. I'm like, oh, I'm like, oh, Scott,
I'm like, I went to bed five. So every husband
that knows when your wife beats us at night, you
(05:25):
know it. You just we can't understand what happened. But
that's what happened, Scott. I don't know what I did,
but she beat me last night.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
So I want to have to I want to have
to side with her because she she's a very sweet
woman and lady, and I can't see her doing that.
Hold up, Scott, you know she I can't believe you
said that she's a killer and you know it. Oh
she's always happy, go lucky around me.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Oh oh god, god, she beat me last night. That's
all all men. When you wake up and you're like,
what happened? I was fine when I went to oh gosh, Well,
I'm gonna be honest. I was that fine when I
went to bed last night. God, I played nine holes.
Like I told you, I'm getting them in. I'm sixty
six fourth quarter. I'm doing what I want to do.
(06:16):
I don't know why. Last week I played back to back,
no problem. I played nine olds yesterday about eight pm,
I was so sore. I don't know what I did,
but I did something. Okay, that's what they have talent
all for. That's all keep pushing. So yes. So, I mean,
I'm kind of broke down right now, but it happens
in year old.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
So I'll tell you what. I don't know if there's
enough tiling all to help Kentucky feel better right now?
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Oh marko, oh, you didn't have to go there like
that's got.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
I was just gonna jump into it for you.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
You might as well go ahead. Then kids two started off,
and I mean, I'm just pointing kat fans and turning.
I'm tearing. Ppe says, excuse me, got Lee, Yo, I'm sorry,
excuse me. I didn't mean to say that. You had
to dump me Shannon. Guys, don't I don't do that.
I don't know if that's a bad word or not,
(07:10):
but I don't do that on my show. Sorry, I
was in the locker room. That won't slip out again.
I'm gonna tear poke up. He did not do a
good job. He did not he has not prepared his team.
And I will tell you all exactly why. I'm not
gonna just say bad things that you hear on radio shows.
I'm gonna tell you why, what you can watch and
the further the future games to come to see if
(07:31):
he corrects it. Sorry for my language, Go ahead, Scott.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
It was it was an eye opening experience for Kentucky
just off of coaching, just off of experience and preparation,
and you know, having a veteran team, having guys that
have been in the program for four years like Cohler has,
and you could just see a toughness and a grid
about them even when they were up. You know, they
(07:59):
were up I think maybe fifteen in the second half,
and you could see them coming out of a time out,
like the intensity in their face of like let's finish them,
and you know, it just it was a rough night
for him. But you know the good thing is there
are only five games into the season, so exactly have
(08:20):
a great opportunity to take their lumps now. And you know,
we all know it's not how you start, it's how
you finish as long they can definitely learn and grow.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yes, have to. Okay, got you said some things, but
I want to for my listeners them fourteen and I'm
going to give you a few before we go to
our first break because I'm going to try to come
in on my computer. But I want people to understand
when you're saying that they did not compete properly, well,
you said in every which way. Let me explain to
(08:54):
you all what Scott's talking about. One is defensive transition.
Remember when a car got the lob dunk? Should not
happen defensive transition. Garrison and the young man off the
bench made a mistake in defensive transition. It was a
five on five transition. Young man leaves, I'm not sure
(09:16):
if his name number four, guys, I don't know the
proper pronunciation of his name, and was guarding the interior
player and just left him and rotated to his man
on the perimeter, which was the trailer and gave up
another layup. Kentucky did not execute defensively things that they
should practice every day, which we're going to get into after. So,
(09:40):
first thing, ten offensive rebounds. Well, that's not bad, Jerry,
Yes it is. Michigan State shot fifty percent from the
field and fifty percent from the three, so that means
they almost got every miss. Come on, god, it's way
too many double digits when you shoot that well. Secondly,
even the transition, which I just talked to you about,
is always been an issue. Defensive concept, forcing teams baseline,
(10:05):
allowing middle drives, trapping the post early in the game.
Michigan State hits a three or two, then we stopped
trapping the post. We had no results. There are a
lot of things that yes, I'm gonna I don't know
if Shannon, if you received, I send something to your email, Shannon,
no rush, we'll get to it. But it's coach Pope
(10:28):
talking after the game about his disappointment, and he did
say he was disappointed in himself. And I agree with
you one hundred percent. I have done this thirty seven years.
I've broken down more tape than I ever want to watch.
But I was truely disappointed and what I've seen and
what they've done in practice these first six weeks up
(10:51):
to this point early season. Kentuck your fans, you won't
remember this middle of February. Calm down, you will not.
But it's just concerning now because everyone wants their team
to start great, Scott, everyone wants their team to come
out rug just rolling over people. This is easy. We're Kentucky,
We're supposed to do this. Well. It doesn't always happen
(11:14):
that way. But it's still too early to evaluate your program.
But we are going to go through some of the
things that went wrong that they have to correct. So
has it happened to the best? Yes, let me tell
you now. Nineteen eighty I myself went a National Championships
cut University of Love. We win it all to take
(11:36):
the chip home. They almost crushed the top of the
bus coming across the bridge from Indianapolis. Okay, something people
said louisvill would never do. We did the very next
year with one of the top five coaches in my
opinion ever coached Crumb. We start to in seven, got
me two and seven. Yes, and we had individuals playing
(12:00):
and when I come back from breaks, that's where I'm
going to start. First. Kentucky's not a team, it's a
group of individuals, and I referred to that when I
said yesterday at the end of the show, the average
minutes played. Coach Polk is played into that because he's
(12:20):
played everybody, and he played ten players yesterday, double digit
minutes after the break. I'm gonna explain to people why
that's a no note unless I'll explaining to you you
do X. That is a true no note. Is Easeworts Radio.
I got these got bow weight, Shannon. I'm going to
(12:40):
try to come back in and see if it works,
but we won't try a loan. If it doesn't work,
it doesn't work. But there's Theseworts Radio. Don't forget yep.
Phone lines will be open. Got to get your scores
in for this week. It is AE hundred dollars, no briars,
patch hundred bucks to the winner. You don't even have
to get in with me. I gotta give Billy Aises
(13:03):
money away two hundred dollars if you've got enough to
come into the Briers Pats with the sports radio. So anyway,
phone number five zero two five nine hundred. We're gonna
talk to you Anna after the break.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio. Sounds good, Everything's fine,
Just a few little technical difficulties we have to work through. Scott.
We've got a gum in on the line which I'm
going to get to again. I wanted to tell just
hold Joe. I want people to understand this. Muhammed twenty
one minutes, Brandon twenty minutes, Garrison, Colin Chandler twenty six minutes.
(13:37):
He needs to stay out of foul trouble. Really good
player or take a oh wait thirty one minutes, Denzel
Aberdeen thirty one minutes, the young man I can't pronounce
his name ten minutes, Trent Noah ten we've got Yellowitch, Yes,
that's it, and we've got Malechaimarino twenty minutes. We've got
Jasper Johnson fourteen minutes, We've got Cam Williams seventeen millions,
(14:00):
ineen minutes, everyone seeking minutes. That is ten guys, double
digit minutes. So what does that mean if you're not
straight out Las Vegas, Nevada for court pressing, not even
coach Crump when we would start in the two two
one passive just to work you. Then we got after
you in the second half to where we really got
after you. You're not playing ten people if you're Jerry Tartadian,
(14:25):
Las Vegas, Nevada. No three point line in the old day,
scoring one hundred points. I mean really pressing, Okay, Larry Johnson, Grandmama, Okay,
but not the way I can tell your place what
that means to a person who's done it forever. Guys,
you compete and practice. What are you competing for? Starting
jobs and playing time? That's the nature of this business.
(14:49):
Kentucky's not kindergarten. Like a friend of mine said, this
is big business. Big business. They're competing against each other. First,
try to outplay Tony Branch and Roger Berkman. I'm trying
to earn my minutes in practice. That's what we do.
That's what you're supposed to establish. That's what your coach.
(15:11):
The nature of this business is. This is not we
kumbaya and we play. Everybody I know coaches say that rhetoric.
I hear it all the time. How we love each other, Guys,
I'm telling you, I was on one of the most
competitive teams I believe in Louisville history. Jack Smith and
(15:31):
I hated each other until we played the opponent, but
we saw each other every day in practice, even on
the same team. Don't mess up, don't miss a shot,
don't turn it over. He was barking at me, and
I was barking at him. And that's the truth. Don't
dismiss my third son, his son. That's the truth telling you,
Oh guys, Tony Branch I was trying to hit him
(15:51):
in his head every day. Every day. I wanted the
starting job, I wanted the minutes. I had to outplay him.
That's what I did. What I say here as a
coach trying to keep people happy. Scott, you got me.
That's not the nature of our business. Not at Kentucky,
not at Louisville. I know coach Kelsey's done great job.
(16:12):
It sounds good, guys, but if you go look, he
played players heavy minutes last year, heavy minutes. Edwards and
those guys they played heavy Chucky played heavy minutes. You
should be out there playing thirty five, thirty six minutes
because they've earned them if they're healthy enough. Okay, so
I'm still giving otaga Oway a small pass. He did
(16:33):
have turf toe. It's very tough. You'll see what happened
turf toe with Joe Burrows has tough guys, But you
earn minutes no way in the world. Ten people played
double digit minutes if it's not a blowout. And even then, guys,
even in a blowout, I still wanted my minutes. I
didn't like coach sitting in me early. He did, but
(16:55):
I didn't like it. I'm just telling you all, I
didn't like it. I always thinking, petitor, I didn't want
to do that anymore. I want people to understand. I
stopped at Simmons because I got tired. I was mad.
I didn't like I didn't like being mad. I didn't
want to have to try to win. I'm happy. Go
lucky now, Scott, I'll tell you. But when we were
(17:16):
practicing him, I wasn't, guys, I'm competitive. In the championship game,
Coach Crumb took me out at the end of the
second half two and a half minutes to go. Guys,
I went directly to one of the greatest coaches in
the game and said, Coach, why am I other game?
I'm sorry, that's the nature of our business, one of
(17:37):
the greatest. No, I didn't run up and yell and swear. No,
I didn't do that. Don't get it twisted. I did
ask him, though you can watch the tape. Go pull
the old tape, you'll see me go right to it.
I didn't want to come out of the game. I
wanted to win the game, period. So when I see
these minutes divided like that, Scout and Joe, who I'm
coming to, That lets me know he's trying to keep
(17:58):
people happy. That's not the nature of our business. Dang them.
They have to outplay each other. His job is to
tell them. Like Coach Crumb used to say, it's real easy.
We kept stats. Jerry Jones kept track of every stats
in the seventies. All this analytic stuff you all hear
is it's like it's new, Scott. It's not new. Great
(18:18):
coaches do that.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Scott.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
We had a man named Stan Fraker who came to
our practices who made us close our eyes, take deep breaths.
We were doing all that in the seventies and eighties.
It tickles me when I hear all this sports psychology
that's going on. Coach Crumb had us doing that in
the seventies. Gentlemen, ladies, got y'all have no idea how
competitive this is. He wanted us to have an edge.
We did that all this. Are you hearing about it now? Oh,
(18:43):
they're sober. We did that, we started practice. He'd have us,
he would Stan Franker would stand in the middle of
the jump circle. We'd all be hdding inward, if you
know what I mean, head inward to where our heads
were closer to the jump circles. Feet out, close your eyes,
Wiley Brown. I used to laugh us, man, I'm going
to sleep during this time, get me a little rest.
But it didn't make any difference. Coach Crumb was ahead
(19:05):
of his time. But the bottom line is people are competing.
He's given out time. That's the first thing he needs
to change. Scott. Let's get to our first call. Joe,
Welcome to Esports Radio.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Hey, Jerry, good morning, it's Joe in Uh. That's a
great that's a great summation of the of the Kentucky issues.
I think you know, when you guys started playing back
in the day, you didn't start playing a December first
or so, so there's still a lot of time, a
lot of time, but very disappointed. You know, Kentucky looked
(19:43):
look uncoachable last night.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
I didn't think they looked good at all from.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
The coach down. Uh, something something's going on there.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I brought what I.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
Think is they need a point guard.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Uh would help?
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Yes, I agree with that. The low situation does hurt. Yes,
that does hurt.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
I agree terrible you know low and that you know
they need a leader. They don't have a leader. And
you know the kids from Florida Aberdeen. He really can't
get around. He plays his heart out one hundred ten percent,
he just can't get around. He just can't get get
in the lane like like we're used to with the
point guards the UK. So they've got, you know, several issues,
(20:23):
but but you know, hopefully they can they can fix them. Uh,
hopefully maybe he'll come back to the North Carolina game.
They've got and I don't think I think they've got
some weak opponents to fix things. But they're they're not
very good right now.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
I can tell you.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Right now you've got Lowell of Maryland Tennessee Tech. North
Carolina is December the second. So I'm just hoping that
they can get this shoulder situation resolved. I told you
all I had two young ladies on my Simmons team
popped out the second time I had surgery done. So
I'm not saying but again, we're not big business. That
(21:00):
is big business. And there is a difference, So we
have to wait and see. Joe, let's get your scores.
Score that I have to have is Kentucky Vandy, and
it's all over the board. Now where are you going?
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Yeah, I'm going with Kentucky thirty one to twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Okay, no one has that. Are you getting in the
briars pastures stand out?
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:20):
It's easy.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Yeah, I'm saying it.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Yeah, you want in?
Speaker 2 (21:24):
You want me to give you an over under? Are
you staying out?
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:26):
What is the what's the over out on your score?
I take the under. I would say thirty Kentucky twenty seven,
that's what I Are you getting in? Okay?
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Yeah, yeah, I'll take thirty one twenty seven Okay.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
And I'm taking the under. Louisville s MU SMU Missouri
at Oklahoma Oklahoma and Oklahoma must win for Oklahoma, they've
put themselves in it. Now we can get to that
at the end USC Oregon, Oregon, Okay, Pittsburgh, And you
(22:07):
know it's a surprising. Like I told you, the guys
that helped me research look at things. This game, Scott
is only a three and a half point difference. Pittsburgh,
Georgia Tech. I think Georgia Tech rolls, but that's up
what Vegas says. And they know what I know. They
know where than I know where you going with Pittsburgh Georgia.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Tech, Georgia Tech.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Okay, gotcha, I've got you down, Joe, appreciate.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
You, man right, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Scott seven thirty two.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
You know what you know where the a SEC is
so unpredictable that Pittsburgh could actually mess around and win
this game. Screw everything up.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
That's not unpredictable. It's called bad. I mean, Scott, they
may not get a team in I just want people
to know. Don't be mad at me.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
I just tell them I don't want to do, not
want to say bad.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
They do not like the truth. But it's bad. It's
just all.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
I was trying to be nice to say unpredictable.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Climpson was supposed to be one of the top four
teams got at the beginning of the year. All the talent,
everybody back top fourteen. Come on, they stink, So we
got Kevin. I'm gonna get the break. Seven thirty three, Scott,
I want you to hit me thirty seconds. What do
you think about the minutes before we go to break
and I'm coming to you, Kevin as soon as the
break's over. What do you think about the minute Scott
(23:24):
giving away?
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Minute? All right?
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I agree. You know when especially if you're not playing
that high paced style of basketball where you need to
play ten. You know, you look at you look at
the Duke and Kansas game. Look at their they played.
Kansas played. Maybe they played ten guys, but only I
think seven got multiple double figure minutes. Duke played eight
(23:51):
that had double figure minutes.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Coach Crumb said, that's the coach's decision. Make a choice
would be better at the end, choose eight. I took
the NT job. Bottom line, don't have too many rules,
but stick to the ones you have, period point.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
The ones you have I'll live with. I'll never forget
when you said you had nine to all Americans on
your team and only played seven. That's crazy, guys, that's
a fight.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Poncho Wright was a pro. Only reason he was not
is Derek Smith earned and took those minutes in practice
period and he did, and Poncho today will tell you,
and Pacho was talented. Derek Smith, I'll believe me in
practice every day, faught me every day, guys, listen to
me physically fault me every day. It's not how big
(24:36):
the tiger is, look like Tarzan, play like Jane. How
much fight you.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Got your tiger?
Speaker 2 (24:42):
So let's get the break, Kevin. I'm coming right back
with you after break Eastports Radio. We will talk to
you in a minute. Welcome back to Eastports Radio seven
thirty eight. Godly, the show's just too short, Kevin, Welcome
to the Estports Radio. Are you keV? Kevin? Did I
lose you? Kevin? There? Kevin? How are you a big fellow?
Speaker 5 (25:07):
I'm good this morning?
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Mysteries God, misteries today.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
God.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
I like that though, But my dad died about twenty
four years ago.
Speaker 6 (25:19):
Somebody's got to carry it on there.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
You go. Appreciate you, brother, I appreciate that. So Kemp,
you know we got to get our scores in. But
what'd you think of last night's game.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
I'm not really surprised.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
You were right.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
If you got a team full of uh, if they
were all American in high school, they got to realize
they're all Americans in college.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Yet that's a fact.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
You know, you said it's all gonna be determined. Then
in practice, I remember the Kentucky teams before when they
hit dunking all them. They had players on the team
and they all knew how to sacrifice for the team.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
And that's something.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
Got to be taught nowadays when they're paying these these
kids all this money and they really haven't done anything yet.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
So easier for me. I'm gonna be honest with Kevin. Kevin,
that may we make it just that much easier for me.
I'm paying you, Scott. I'm so glad Scott's on today.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
This is the truth. Head coaches have to have resolve.
I mean, you gotta be tough, guy, but you gotta resolve.
There was a guy named Dwayne Joshua and our team
member Scott. He was a starter, good kid from Jacksonville.
Played poorly in a game, and after the game, when
we went back to the hotel during Christmas break on
the road, we'd lift well. One of my assistant coaches
came up to my room and said, hey, I ain't
(26:42):
no one lift. I said, well, tell him real simply,
he either lifts or if I come down, I'm gonna
cut him, simple as that. That's all there is to it.
It's one of the two for him to choose. But
if I come down, I'm gonna cut him. He'll be
on a plane leaving the next day, so he better
make his decision. You you have to have a resolve
and your kids have to know it. It's not hard.
(27:04):
This thing is hard. It's really not. Decisions just have
to be made, and Coach Polk's gonna have to make some.
And it's easier when you're paying the damn kids. They're
pros now, Dang you, you're supposed to be professional. So
let's get to the score and I'll tell you why
they can't play hard, which I'm gonna put on Coach Polk. Also,
the score I need is Kentucky Vandy. It's mixed bag.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
I will take Vanderbilt twenty eight to seventeen.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Nobody's got that real good. Louisville at SMU.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
I don't know why I'm going to do this, but
I'm gonna say Louisville.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Okay, No, I mean it is a tough all these games,
these are good games.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Right now.
Speaker 6 (27:48):
I'm staying perspective last week.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Right I'm staying with I took Clemson last week. If
they don't have Brown, I'm not going with them. When
Brown comes back. They got it if he doesn't. And yes,
the other runback's doing fine, but he's still not the
breakaway threat. Missouri at Oklahoma.
Speaker 6 (28:08):
Oklahoma, Yes, they played their.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Way into it. USC at Oregon.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
I'm gonna take USC.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Okay. I still think they're a little soft in California boys,
I'm not going with them. I think Oregon at Oregon
wins that one, but I understand it. They're working their
way up.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Pittsburgh at They're not.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
They're not, though, you're right, they're not. They don't have
the quarterback. They're not yet. I agree. Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
Georgia Tech, Okay.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Cakever, you get in the Briars patch with me, Yeah,
might as well. Lucas none to lose twenty eight to seventeen,
but that's a tough one. Kentucky's defense is playing well,
and I don't know if they offensively can score enough,
but their defense is playing well. Twenty seven seventeen, that's
only thirty Godly, man, that's hard. That's a good score. Honestly,
(29:08):
that's only forty five points. Scott, that's a good score.
I'm going under twenty seven. I think Vandy will Kentucky
won't score enough to beat him twenty seven. I took
the underroady Kevin, got your.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Brother a right, sir?
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Yeah, thank you you too. Thanks. Will listen all right, Scott,
Let's get to some other issues. No defensive concept, what
does that mean? I want people to understand your team.
Either your coach allows when someone beats them off the dribble,
you entice them to beat you baseline, or you entice
(29:45):
them to beat you middle. Okay, well, when teams beat
you both ways, that lets me know there's no defensive concept.
You have to choose. What does that mean. I'm closing
out on a player that is shooting a corner three
free throw line extended three. I'm closing out on the
top side. I'm forcing toward the baseline where I'm building
(30:06):
my defense. I didn't want the ball back to the
middle of the floor. Middle of the floor meant one
hundred and eighty degrees. If I can force that ball
to the baseline, less distance, I have to guard, get
my hands up, play great d It limits his passing options.
But everybody's different. Kentucky gives up both. That's first things
(30:27):
got first three. So when everybody says they didn't play hard,
you can't play hard when you don't have a concept
where your coach should be upset. So I want everybody
to everyone remembers the play when Kentucky gave up the
lamp in the second half, when defensive transition five on five,
(30:47):
there are no it was not uneven numbers you practice.
We would practice four on five, five on four, four
on three, three on two, two on one. Got me
so that your defense would know how to act or
react when they were the offense had numbers. There's still
things you can do defensive well. When Jelovich left the
(31:09):
layup shooter to guard his man, which was the trailer
along with Brandon Garrison, and gave up the direct one
pass layup in a five on five transition, Scott and
I saw Coach Pope's face. It's on ESPN. He did
not you don't have to be my man, Swaggy cal
yelling at the players all the time, it's my man.
(31:32):
But he could have turned to his bench and said
we've practiced that we did xt He didn't neither, which
let me know he couldn't be upset because he hadn't
told him which way to go. He expected them to know.
That's a no note. He should have been upset, Scott.
He should have told his bench we've practiced that we
are better than that. He didn't neither. He stood there
(31:55):
and looked. I didn't like that. Again, you don't have
to yell and scream, but he should have initiated some
communication to his bench. That's not what we practice. Too
easy plants that you should not get the lib dunk
for car and transition outran allway. There were people back
(32:15):
worried about perimeter shooters not protecting the basket, not stopping
the ball early enough to take away that lob pass
it's got. There were just so many things defensively I
saw on breakdowns that I did not like. The announcers
Jay Billis said, it all show Michigan State wants to
reverse the ball from one side to the other. They
(32:36):
want to get you, They want to get all five
players involved. If they get you moving with your opponent
and you never can dictate a strong side, he's correct,
then Little ISO's team has a chance to beat you.
Kentucky allowed that. Again, no defensive concept on picking rolls.
(32:58):
They don't show. Sometimes they're in the pain, sometimes they're midway.
We always used to say, Scott they're no man's land,
no man's land, which means you're not doing anything. You're
not protecting the basket, you're not stopping the ball. You're
in the middle. You can't. That is a decision that
has to be taught in your defensive concept. I think
(33:20):
they lost a defensive concept. So let's get to break
some forty six. When we come back, we'll get to
our next caller and we'll talk about, hopefully some of
the football, But I did want to get out some
of the things that Kentucky can career. Guys, you won't
remember this game mid February. First caller is correct, you won't.
But they have to get to work. Is Esports Radio.
(33:42):
We'll talk to you after the break. Welcome back to
the sports Radio, Scott. We've got to get to it.
We've got justin waiting, justin. Welcome to the Esports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Are you what's up, guys?
Speaker 7 (33:54):
How y'all doing this morning?
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Just trying to dissect the game. Dissect the game.
Speaker 7 (34:00):
That's all man.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
It go big blue, Go big blue? They say they did.
Speaker 7 (34:06):
They say it was a twenty two million dollar team.
Is that what I'm here this morning? I don't know
why that's even now.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Well, again, there's no transparency on that. I'd like to
see everyone's I told you that. I don't know why
they passed that bill. We should unders be able to
see now. I want them pay transparency. It's all I want.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
There's no hope with Mark Pope, No hope.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
You go not yet.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Hard, you know.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
I just want to congratulate the Cat Nation and Kentucky
Wildcats on a great performance against Michigan State last night.
Hopefully we continue the great games this year.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
But you know what, I got you justin let's.
Speaker 7 (34:50):
Say, I'm just trying to get them. I'm just trying
to tickle and rubblele bit, you know what. You know,
they're just so gosh.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
We've been We've been worn out. They've worn us out
for years. There's no question about it. We've been down
so it's been easy, so let's get with it. Kentucky advantage, Yeah,
that's definitely definitely well.
Speaker 7 (35:10):
I just hope they don't continue to hurt our RPI
because I'm looking forward to a good seat in the tournament.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
So hopefully they can.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
But I heard they were sixteen and twelve since January first,
and twelve and twelve against top top twenty five teams.
That's n I T N I T resumes.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Wow, I got you, Yah, Jippy, I need to Kentucky vany,
I got people waiting.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
Fun fact. The fun fact of the day is, uh,
who's our coach with Kentucky's ex assistant coach was that
Kenny Payne. Kenny Payne install a fun fact today?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Well?
Speaker 7 (35:45):
Did last night the Arkansas game went through?
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Did you see that little scuff on the court?
Speaker 7 (35:50):
M hm, did you see what Kenny was doing?
Speaker 2 (35:54):
No? I did not. I saw the stuff, but he
was over.
Speaker 7 (35:56):
Just he just kept he just kept on. He just sip.
You know, he's paying attention. He just kept sitting there,
just sitting in his chair.
Speaker 5 (36:02):
He didn't get up or nothing, you know.
Speaker 7 (36:05):
And somebody told me and said, you know what he's
he's he was sitting in a chair.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
But you know how much money he made yesterday?
Speaker 7 (36:11):
He made ten thousand dollars in one day.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Where you go, yes, score score Kentucky a Vandabilt give
me a score.
Speaker 7 (36:20):
Vanderbilt forty two, Kentucky thirteen.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Okay, louis b SMU Louble.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
SMU Louisville thirty one, s MU twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Yeah, don't you describe just need who wins these? Missouri? Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
usc At, Oregon, Oregon, pitt.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
At, Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
You're getting in the briars patch with me?
Speaker 7 (36:49):
Have we got yeah?
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Are you getting the briars patch? You gambling with me?
Speaker 7 (36:54):
Oh man?
Speaker 2 (36:56):
We can Okay, forty one? I got done to appreciate you,
justin you doo Ron, Welcome to the show. How are you?
Speaker 8 (37:07):
I don't know if I can follow up your comedian there,
he's I mean, he's he's a good started comedy. I guess,
I don't know, you know. And maybe instead of worrying
about how bad Kentucky looks right now, maybe he ought
to fix that fiasco. They think it's a good football
program down there on Floyd Street. You know, that the
(37:28):
embarrassment they did to theirself the last couple of weeks,
and that that clown taking snaps for them, you know,
don't don't worry about you know.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
But anyway, that's another show. You know, when.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Kentucky loses, it brings them all up.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
Out of the gutters. Jerry, we hear from them.
Speaker 8 (37:48):
But anyway, moving right along, I just want to talk
real quick about the basketball game.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Uh there's you know, I.
Speaker 8 (37:58):
Heard the one caller, and I agree with help if
they had a true point guard out there. But the
problems are much much, much.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
Deeper than that. On this team. One thing, they're not physical.
Speaker 8 (38:12):
They're physically soft as Dug butter.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
Okay, they got out rebounded.
Speaker 8 (38:16):
They got out rebounded about thirteen rebounds and at one
time they were down sixteen seventeen on the glass. That Jerry,
you know as a ex player, that's effort and desire
to go rebound the ball. And that's that's part of
the dirty word. That the offense that he runs.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
So I can have it. I don't like it. You're bringing.
Speaker 8 (38:40):
You're bringing a true freshman Malachi Marino to the top
of the post and putting the ball in his hands
to make decisions with the ball, or you bring you're
bringing the worst player they got, in my opinion, Brandon
Garrison up there putting it in his hands.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
To start your offenses. That's horrible.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
It's just horrible.
Speaker 8 (38:56):
Jerry, and you got Mo dia Bote may have the
worst jump shots since the Civil War.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
After shooting four three shoot shooting.
Speaker 7 (39:05):
Four threes in the first half.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
I'm like, what what are they doing?
Speaker 1 (39:09):
I mean.
Speaker 8 (39:13):
Like a clown show. And I'm like, man, he means
take this back to Utah Valley State or by U
or wherever you brought this from. Because and him staying
over with his arms folded with a smirk on his face,
looking like how they duties instead of coaching. I I
can't stand much more of it, really I can't.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
It's right.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
I'm gonna tell you you might not remember this game
in February, but things have to change. I'm not gonna
lie to you.
Speaker 7 (39:39):
Oh I will you know what we're gonna remember.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
In March when they're handing out seeds.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Yeah, yeah, this is gonna be It's an interesting year.
Don't give in on Poke yet. The things he said
he needs to change him. I'm gonna play his comments tomorrow, Scott.
We gotta go appreciate your call, justin, Joe, Kevin, everybody.
I'm gonna play coach Poke's comments tomorrow. And I do
think he understands what he has to do to coach
(40:07):
this group. They do have talent and there's a player.
Don't forget that Quentin's guy is really good. And that
is a difference, macause that's the toughness that Kentucky is
missing teriorly that they need drastically easworts. Radio, we'll talk
you out to Margo
