Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sure, it's Monday. I am sure of that, and we
have all kinds of sports. We've got more sports than
I've ever had in my life. My mind is twisted
because there's so many things going on in sports right
now that we have to talk about. It's just amazing.
That's all that I can say. So anyway, welcome back.
Phone numbers five zero two, five, seven seventy nine hundred.
(00:24):
I am the brand Eave Sports Radio. It's seven ninety.
I've told you guys, I'm going today KRD seven ninety
sports Talk. I've got Shannon behind the glass, which we do,
and we'll have that one and only other guy in
a second. So let me just settle down and tell
(00:44):
you I had a winner in my contest. That's first
thing from last week. Y'all aren't going to believe this,
but I did truly have three people that were five
and oh, three that were five and oh. The test
now has gotten so gnarly it's unbelievable. That's all that
(01:04):
I can say to you. There's nothing else for me
to say other than that we just have to continue
to work through this. I'm going to sit in the scores.
Coach boul Wage is back I'm going to he will
start to again log them in and give me the total.
So I'll let you know where you stand by Wednesday
or Thursday of this week. So that'll be interesting for
(01:27):
the five hundred dollars. As we well know, Billy Hayes,
Town and Country and COMMONWEF Dodge sponsors our contest. It's
a five hundred dollars payout. I appreciate it shanting five
hundred dollars payout, as you well know. And there are
a lot of people. I want to say, there's now
six people in the running, so chan And told me
(01:47):
I had to. So let me just introduce the other guy.
His name is George Williams. He is the other guy
ring who ring you Home of the Champions, Greatest of
all time photographer? Have I left anything out? And George,
turn your radio or TV down. You're trying to try
(02:09):
to multitask George.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
No, no, I wouln't get into station and I couldn't out.
I didn't get the station, so I have my TV on.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
So you had your TV on, George, since you weren't,
You're gonna watch the news that right, I understand, Well, George,
I don't know where to begin. I really don't tell
me about you before we get started. I mean, George,
I don't know where to start. I do sometime today.
I think we should start with this before we get
(02:41):
into Kentucky basketball or the football players. It's high school football, George.
We need to talk about our champions. So after you
tell you what you did this weekend, we're going to
go there first and talk about the high school champions
and congratulate them for their great wins and their great seasons.
(03:02):
But what you do this weekend, Georgia.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Jerry, I was really fortunate enough to go back into
the past. When you're you're a child, you very seldom
get to reminisces in your past. But uh, the city
opened up the Baxter Gymnasium, which was in Beach and
Terry's back in the day when I was a young
man and a child, and all the greatest ball players,
especially African American ball players would come down to beaching
Terras at about five or six and meet on the court.
(03:26):
And Jerry today Saturday, I was fortunate enough that redid
the back to the facility. It's gonna reopen and gonna
be a very vital thing in the community, and I'm
proud that I was able to be able to participate
in that, Jerry. I mean, it was the heart blood
of the neighborhood. It had it had medical facilities in there,
it had parking, recreation and h it had all the
things that the community needed, and all the young people
(03:48):
from Beaching Terror to Tenth Street around. So, Jerry, it
was really a warm feeling to go back to somewhere
when you're a child and you get to go back
and relive and see it to be revitalized again. So
that was the most important thing I did this week,
and jured that I really liked, you know what I mean.
And I got to take pictures and meet some people. Hey, Ja,
I'm gonna tell you how powerful. Well, I'm sorry to do that. Yeah,
it was so powerful. Some of the people who came
(04:12):
reminisced remembered it so well. Voluntarists George jer because they passed.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Beacha Terrace is where I was born. Only lived there
one year. I didn't know that fifty nine I was born.
We moved to Newburgh in sixty We lived in Newburgh
until nineteen sixty nine. Carrie graduated in sixty eight Trinity's
first high school victory, which Bubba brought up to his
Friday in sixty eight. We moved to Prospect in sixty nine.
But yes, George, my grandmother, my mother's mother lived in
(04:46):
Beacha Terrace and anytime we faked sick and didn't want
to go to school, we went to my mother's mothers.
That's where we stayed. And George. I grew up in
Beacha Terrace. There used to be a seal of George.
The only thing in the playground was a cement seal
dead in the middle. Do you remember that George had
a waterfowl. I used to be on that seal all
the time. But yes, I do understand. And that was
(05:07):
a beautiful day. I saw that on the news.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
George.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
I'm glad you were there and I wasn't there.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I say something else was really amazing to meet that.
A lot of people don't understand. You know, people call
beat it the projects and stuff. But Jerry, back in
the day, teachers lived there. It was so renowned, and
so we find people jered they had indoor plumbing back then.
I know, people think that's funny. They had yards. I mean,
it was a real change in a lot of African
Americans laves in the community, and it wasn't what people
(05:33):
think it is today.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
George, I'm going to do what you usually do to me.
You always say, don't let people defind you by names.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
George, there you go.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
My mother when she lived there, she grew up, her
mother grow My mother grew up there. They used to
leave the key hanging on the outside of the door. George.
Nobody broke George. Absolutely, it was no such thing. The project.
It was a great house, seeing a facility. But George,
when people label you and give you names and all
(06:04):
of a sudden you start to believe and buy into
makes it really difficult. So George, I do know Terris
is a great place.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Curtis jeff I say this last thing, Jack, know your history.
You know what I mean. That's why so many people
get caught up. That's why we and where we are
right now because we do not know history. We do
not follow history so we can find out what has
gone on, what is going on?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yes, Curtis Jeffries played with me at Ballad High School. George,
he went to George Washington University and want to state champion.
You understand State champion. He went to George Washington University,
George got his degree. He builds kitchens for the prison
system and Marriott. He's one of the richest black men.
I know. He gives money to Simmons all the time.
(06:47):
When I need a dime, I call my teammate Curtis Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
That's beautiful in beach Terrs.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
George, you remember two years ago when his sister died.
They had the big funeral at Saint Steven. Do you
remember that? Yes, so yeah, So just don't let people
establish names and you stay by them. George.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
That's all. There you go, George, there, you're here.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
We've got that, We've got seven twelve and George, we've
got great high schools football. So I don't know what
we say other than Trinity Congratulations. We tell Lauren twenty
eight fourteen six A champions. George. They're really good. I mean,
there's no question about it. And congratulations to all the
(07:28):
kids all the hard work that they've put in, a
great job for Trinity. Again back to back Owensboro.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
And I'm gonna say one thing that you didn't say, Jed.
You know you always say this when we do our interviews,
you know, and thank the parents for what they do.
For their young people.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
No question, Yes, no, I mean, without a doubt, George.
They Trinity is one of the Sant Xavier a lot, George.
I hate it because it seems that we have to
say private schools do a great job at public schools
do a great job. Also, people need to know one thing.
(08:03):
I said this numerous times. My dad told me a
long time ago. There's no such thing as free school.
They're all private. They're paid for our tax dollars, and
we should approach them in that manner. But George, we're not.
We do not. But yes, congratulations to the parents. Without
the parents, the kids could not do what they do
five eight Onins World thirty five seven over Pulaski, George,
(08:26):
great team, Boil thirty four Franklin County zero and Boils
very good.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
I can't I got trait.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Are they are? They are three eight col forty two,
Murray seven, great job Col two eight Lexitdon Catholic thirty three,
Winsworld Catholic twenty eight one eight first time George Kentucky
Country to eight twenty Raceland sixteen in an upset. Congratulations
to CACD. Congratulations, no question, so, George, those are our
(08:59):
high school Chance. What do you what do you think
about those challenges?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Well, Jerry, I'm always for Cal. I mean Country Day.
That's their first ever, so there's nothing like the first ever.
You know what I mean? Uh, Cal, it's a it's
a well oied machine. Jerry. They have some outstanding ball
player and the m v P. I know that young man.
I've been knowing him ever since he was a little
little boy, and I know his dad, you know what
I mean. So I was out. It was outstanding for
(09:26):
me to see that he became the MVP and he
puts it in the hard work. To Jerry, that's the
one thing that people don't understand. You don't get these
teams don't get whether at without these young men putting
it in the work that it takes to get to
that point. And then Tranded, what can I say? That's
my man, Bubba's team. Bubba, congratulations once again a three
time stampion. You know I always want to holler y
out Bubba. And you know I got my hat, Jared.
(09:46):
I put it on Bubba when it was going in
for the last.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Jordan, take it off.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I put it on Bubble. I just did it for you, baby.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Take it off. See, George, here's the reason why I
have hate for Trinity. You and Bubba went and two.
But Trinity beat my brother. In sixty eight, Trinity beats
Seneca their first championship. George. Was nineteen sixty eight, Trinity's
first football championship, and they beat Seneca. Jarry, So, George,
I've had hate eight years old, years old, remember well,
(10:19):
I remember it well? Yes, so, George, congratulations of Trinity.
Super job. So George, were at seven sixteen? Go ahead,
go ahead, you got.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Something I can remember eight years old. Jed, how did
you take that loft bad? You feel like you apart
of the team now you just kept on.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Playing, George, I thought I was part of the team,
sitting all the way up inside of understands. Oh absolutely,
I was upset. Now. They played the game at the Fairgrounds,
but at Seneca. George, my dad said, in the same
place for every football game, he said, in the same
place for every basketball game. It's all there's to it.
That's why I'm a tradition guy. Kid, I have a
(10:59):
hard I'm breaking tradition. So yes, I'm looking right now.
Jerry Terry Roseier. George is to be arraigned today in
New York Court of alleged sports betting scheme. So we'll
have some more on Terry probably tomorrow Wednesday. So, yes, George,
I was upset about it. In sixty eight. I do
remember the game Trinity DA had a very good team.
They had a great running back, George. That is just
(11:21):
eluding me right now. They had a great running back.
He went to Georgia Tech. Oh, I met him Alan Hennessy. Yes,
it was Alan Hennessy. George went to Georgia Tech. I
met him with Dale Roman at Autumn Country Club playing
golf when I was an adult, and Dale introduced me
(11:42):
and says, do you know this guy? He says you,
and he's not going to know me.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I hugged him.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
I said, I know you. I don't like you, but
I know you.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
He was right, right, right right.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Oh, George was good. He was fast. I mean, yes,
I would give I'll never forget him.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Yes, he's He also was a great track man to Jay.
He yes, here he was. He was a speed, real speed,
real speed.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yes. So no, George, that's the first time I met
him since when I was eight. And he beats Seneca
and he said to deal, he's not gonna know who
I am. I'm looking right at him like I should
try to.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Tackle you right now. You make me mad, be mad.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Alan Hennessy was his name to Georgia. So George seven
eighteen when we come back, and we'll let you choose. George,
we've got Kentucky Gonzaga.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yeah, let's start with that one. O Lord, I'm we
have to.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
So at seven eighteen, we've got Shannon behind the glass.
I hope you get better. Shannon's behind the glass. This
is Eve Sports Radio phone number is five zero two,
five seven one seventy nine hundred. We're all just a
little sluggish from all the sports this weekend. We'll talk
to you all after the break. Welcome back to the
Sports Radio seven two. The some of the eighth appreciate it,
(13:12):
the some of the eight. Twenty twenty five. Hey, George,
you know it's so funny. I hate this your day,
hate this, But you know, winners just cannot wait for
you to call their name. They just can't wait. So George,
we got a caller. Yes, he doesn't live in live
in Kentucky. He's a winner. He is a winner to George.
He got in the Briars match in one Yes, did Johnny,
(13:36):
how are you welcome to the sports radio. I'm gonna
be cordial.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Oh I'm doing well, sitting here watching highlights of the weekend.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Uh, having a cup of coffee and smoking a cigar.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
That's what winners do, Johnny.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
I didn't think i'd be the first caller, and I
didn't know I won.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
So even play it like that, I tell you didn't
know you won.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Well, Johnny, here, George, Johnny, listen, but.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
It take his money, Johnny, good job.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Hold up, George, George.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
I want people to know this.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Johnny did not. But I had two people who were
five and oh. There were three of you, all five
and o.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Two of them took Yes, you too, exactly. I took
the over.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
I'm so mad because George he had seventeen fourteen I.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
U I took because it Friday, I remember.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Yes, that's oh. And he got me, George, because I
took eighteen. Well, there were two other people that were
five and oh who thought they won. But they didn't
get in the bar's patch. So I wanted them. Guys
gets in the briar's patch, gets a chance and they
have their heads up. But on top of that, Johnny
got in the bar's patch and beat me. So Johnny, yes,
(14:52):
you are my winner. Instead of fifty you get a
C note.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Thank god.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Billy Hayes doesn't mind sponsoring this. Because George, I'd go
broke money.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yeah, now you lose you it was your money. You
lose your man. You wouldn't go broke because I want
people to know you're not broke. You lose your man
because you hate to lose a nipples, George, There.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
When two when two good teams play each other, the
score is low because you see all those like you know,
think calling from the SEC playing somebody else and they
blow them out. But when they play each other, it's
it's a one score game.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
And uh, that's what I was going for, you know
what I mean. And Georgia playing in Atlanta. You gotta pick.
You gotta pick the Bulldogs, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Uh, there's a lot of predictable things that went on,
but I never expected Indiana would.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
I mean, I picked them. But that's amazing, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
George, Johnny, you picked Duke.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah. I couldn't do it well because I said I'm
gonna play I'm gonna.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Pretend they're playing basketball and that's why, that's why, that's why, honestly,
that's why I played duke.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
And Virginia has won so many overtime one score games.
It's got your LUNs got to run out at some.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Point, it did.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I couldn't h Miami got in by the skin of
their teeth, by the skin right A cc lois will be.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Lobo Street, Miami, Mobile Street, Miami and James Madison, I.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Know, I mean in front of the Louisville defeated two
teams in the Concertball playoffs, James Madison at All twenty
eight fourteen and Miami. I was at both games in Miami.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yeah, I wasn't in Miami, but but you got to
hound your business though, Jared. They had the opportunity is
right in front of them, but they didn't have that business.
They looked they lost the less of teams they did
little did little man opportunity.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
This was the year. This was the year we did
not capitalize. You're hundred correct, But Johnny Louis.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
It was so Louis was so undisciplined.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
They make so many mistakes. Uh, every time they get
an opportunity, they shoot themselves in the foot.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
And I put that on you know, just the environment.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Coaching, and he's not the players.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Uh, you put them out there. They're doing their job.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Though, if you don't hold them accountable and you let
it keep happening, then.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
That's a pattern. And I see it all the time
with them.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Mhm.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Some Cardinal this morning.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
I'm a Cardinals fan. But you got it, just like
you gotta tell the truth.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
There you go, you tell the tooth and you're telling
the truth. John. There's not a lot of people here
to say the truth right now.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
That when as Joe Winter, last time, Leonore has beaten
Kentucky and Indiana and basketball the same year.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
That's got to be back in the eighties.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Got a long time. I went to the IU game also,
we're gonna get to that after Kentucky. I went to
that game. Really great game support. I'm gonna tell you what.
The Georgia was eighty percent, I you twenty percent Louisville
and the place was rocket oh Georgia.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Oh, I got the city. The city was.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Rocking, George. The football game, I you in Ohio State.
I'm telling you the place was packed. The basketball game,
Oh boy. All I can say is this the leadership
in Louisville has not done its job. Because Indianapolis was
on fire this weekend. I mean that, congratulations.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
Yeah, Actually that's a real sports town.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
We're a real sports town.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Say that.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Louisville used to be a real sports town. I mean
it really, But I don't go there. I just I'm
not gonna go there. It's a different show whenever.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
I do it to me, to me, it starts with
Howard Schnellenberger.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
And that's that was that just that was I can't
I'll never get over that.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
And what do you mean by that? What do you
mean by that? I don't understand well.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
And I mean it wasn't our's fault. And I know
back when everything went down with conferences, Lousell had to
get in a conference, but they wouldn't have gotten into
Conference USA and all sports. Howard would have never left.
We were an independent and if we would have just waited,
I mean, that's where the money is is in football.
And he had a vision and everybody makes fun of him,
(19:18):
but he was scheduling some of the toughest teams you could.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Imagine, and he was beating them.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
And I think if we would have stook the course,
he would have honestly, legitimately had a shot at a
national championship.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
I'm not saying immediately, but within ten years.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yes, no, no, no, he was a real coach. He
was Jimmy Johnson. He was a real deal, no question
about that, no doubt that. I didn't know what you
were saying.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
I mean, there's there's stadiums named after him. He was on.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
He was the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins when they
were defeated.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Oh, there's no question about Stellenburger. Guys, there's it's no
question about. But give Louisville credit for bringing him. Give
coach Osen credits for collecting the money, Coach Crumb well
carrying in. I mean, that's Louisville was hot, guys. Louis
was hot. They don't want to admit it. When Louis
was hot in the eighties and when things really changed,
(20:16):
because the narrative changed so strong with Tom and Rick,
and they did a great job. I don't want to
see the time and the Rick, Tom George and Rick
Matino did not do a great job, but they tried
to crush the narrative that was built. That was the
and they tried and that's just an issue. I always had.
That's a fact. But Snellenberger and Dinny Crumb and Bill
Osen had Louisville on no question that elevator was going up.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Fact.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
So Johnny, I gotta get to break at seven thirty.
You were my winner. We'll talk about it, and we'll
talk about.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
One last word, one last word. Butler the Butler, Bearry.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
The Butler berrys. Okay, hold up, George, we're gonna have
to follow you know, we're gonna follow Butler for you. George,
You're gonna have to how game you.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Want to go to?
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Yes, and we're both.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Buy to the high school.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
We're gonna have to.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Okay, I go quite a few of young players on
that team.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Okay, oh yeah, and we'll do that. We'll do that.
We'll go and see him, Johnny, Yes.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Samtanah Cantanna is a great point, learn too.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Okay, we'll do it.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Guys. At seven, let me say one thingful. You go
make Jerry Field. But when you get down the leaks
today about today is my day off.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
I got four jobs and I ain't working none of
them today.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Okay, have fun to jog a sound Hey, tomorrow I'll
call in and tomorrow I'll call in and say about
the Riviera and the Open and how it turned out,
and Jerry, thank you.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Johnny.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Now here's the differ. So you all know, Johnny, the scores.
The teams do not play for two weeks, guys, we
know that. But the games are James and Madison of
course at Oregon, Alabama at Oklahoma at pule Miss, and
Miami at Texas and m that's next day, start next Friday,
(22:07):
so we've got plenty of time. But those are the games.
And we are going to add one pro game so
that we have five. But anyway, let's get the break, Johnny.
Appreciate your call. Again, Johnny, leave your information. I don't
keep those. Leave your information so I can get your
check out to your congratulations on went in last week
he sports radio a minute. Welcome back to the sports
(22:29):
radio guys, seven thirty five. How quickly this scene passes.
I've got the one and only George Williams on the
other line, my winner. Johnny just left. George. You believe
he knew, he did not know he won? What do
you think, George?
Speaker 2 (22:42):
What do you I believe? Johnny Johney seemed like an
upright guy. Ye mean, because he took your money talk fast.
I thank if he'd won Jae. He came in talking
about winning your money. He likes to talk about that. No,
you should.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
He got my money.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I must give you and I would appreciate that, Jared.
See George, George, hold up, it's not so money. It's
not your money. I like how you get affected because
it's not your money. You get upset.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
It's not That's what I like it, George. I don't
want to ruin the know. Town and Country and Commonwealth.
They're having great sales going on right now, super sales.
I saw it on television yesterday. I just want to
get it out. They're selling it like I was selling it, George.
They're they they're giving the cars and trucks away. So
make sure you get out, no question, Towning, Country, Forward, Commonwealth, Dodge. Thanks.
(23:38):
Really hates for your money because you're right. If it
was my money, George would be a no go now, George,
let's get you.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Oh Dad, we got to stop for a minute. With
just one second, you just said they were selling cards
like you did. You almost gaue them away.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
I was going to get out here, say that I
was there, say that I was there, Okay, I was just.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
But giving them away part is what I got caught
up on. To give them away part what I got
caught up on.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
It was a seven in the morning, Georgia, and anybody
that would jump up and get there deserved one of eight.
So I told him, if they got there in time,
they get happy. That's what I told him, George, here's
the deal it is, Georgia. I never heard the team
get booed like that ahead of time for a long
(24:28):
time in college. What happened.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Other than Jarry I. You know, it's kind of amazing
when we go with this n I L and we're
looking at how we're looking at it and evaluating players
and stuff. Sometimes Jerry will evaluate the players on the
physical ability, not the rest of the person, the whole
person personality, you know, Well, how they the thinking process.
(25:01):
I think a lot of these guys, Jared really think
they want and done and they're not playing for the
last year. I thought those guys they were hungry. They
came in, they wanted it, you know what I mean,
they all had something to prove. I think all these
guys coming in they think they've already ascended. They all
think that a lot of them want to be one
and done. I don't think they have the team concept, Jared.
(25:22):
I think they're playing individual and I think Mark Polk
is kind of handcuffed because he don't have the kind
of players that can go out there and win. And
you can look at how you can look at their
inner actions, Jared, the ball player. You can look at
these guys don't even give high five. You don't look
at each other. They don't pass each other, you know
what I mean. They don't talk, you know a lot
of the things they do, Jerry. You can look at
(25:42):
a team you would think they're losing team rather than
one of the best, supposed to be one of the
best teams in the country and the most important Jude.
They're one of the most explicive teams in the country.
And that's why I say you can't really judge the
death when you're talking about getting a ball player and
using your money for them, and you know how to
go into a player in the NBA, You wag him
all the way to his little toes. But these guys,
(26:03):
they get it head you and they think they more
than what they are. They think they're going first round,
and they're really cost the team.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Okay, George, I try to be fair when I critique teams.
I try to remember when I was a player right
Fish Bowl after winning the national championship, my University of
Little Cardinals with six professionals started two and seven. Okay,
(26:35):
So I try to always have retrospect. I just don't
want people to think that that everything is this guy's
falling in completely. Shunning during the commercial break added something
to my thought process that said, Jerry, we are thirty
(26:56):
three percent done with the season, usually twenty seven regular
season games. Guys, you're playing tournaments, so it'll bump you up.
But Shannon is correct, thirty percent of the season is gone.
For the Kentucky Wildcats, five and four played very competitive teams. Now, guys,
I do want to add that most teams have not
(27:19):
played Kentucky schedules. They could be playing lesser opponents and
be seven to two and people would be upset. They'd
be looking at them funny, but it wouldn't be to
this level of anxiety. For the players, the coaches, and
the fans of Kentucky. The anxiety level was tremendous. Same
thing for my Louisville team at two and seven, we
(27:40):
were better than that, George. We were better than that,
but we were not winning games. So I went back
and looked at some of our games. Oklahoma State beat
US at the Buzzer, USC beat us out in California
about six. I do have to say we were competitive
that competitive than Kentucky. But yeah, but we were still too.
(28:01):
I agree with you, but we were still two and seven.
And two and seven is two and seven, five and
four is five and four. It's just the level of
the intensity that the players are playing with, George, that
bothered me Friday night. It truly bothered me. When I
watch guys jogging back on defense, I mean jogging back.
(28:24):
I want people to understand, so you can understand basketball.
When a ball's turned over, you evaluate your team on
how quickly the furthest man from your basket gets deeper
than the ball. What does that mean? That means Jerry Eves,
University of Live one, number five. I drive the ball
to the basket and I turn it over on the baseline.
(28:46):
Everybody understands that Memphis grabs at Memphis stated the old days,
grabs it, outlets it, and they're running a fast break
off my turnover. Coach Crumb and Jerry Jones would say,
the person who turned the ball over should try to
be the first person back, no matter where the mistake
was made. Your teammates are gonna cover for you and
(29:09):
gonna beat you back, but they better see you busting
your can to be the first person Now you can't be.
Let's go back again with my illustration. I turn it
over on the baseline, ninety four feet away from the basket, right, George,
they outlet my turnover. They're now at almost half court.
(29:30):
It's my job to get back in that dame picture
before Coach Crumber, Coach Jones say you were low fit.
That's my job, George. Well, George, I have a highlight
tape I've sent to a few of my friends in
butch to where they're showing that one guy jogging back,
not two guys jogging back, but three jogging back. George
jogging back. Have no attitude about being the first one
(29:53):
back to cover.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
For the mistake. Three mark poker hands.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
You have that's an issue. Well, George, I'm so glad
you said that. Let me explain something to you and
this came up. I was just looking at the internet yesterday.
I can't say it exactly, but I'm gonna try to
get as close to it as possible. But everybody's heard this,
no matter what you think of mean. Coach Knight was
one well of a coach period. We all know that
(30:22):
MultiMate champion almost back to back undefeated seasons. Bobby Knight
said when he had a problem with the player's attitude,
he said, player, here's horn. Blow horn blows. Player sprints
to the bench. Player sits blank on the bench. Player
sits ass on the bench. Bench equates the player that
(30:48):
you're not going to play. So bench runs up the
players back to the player's brain, saying if player wants
to play, player better change his attitude. Brain changes attitude,
player changes outlook. Player goes back in the game. Player
plays the correct way. So what am I saying to people?
(31:11):
Coach Pope needs to let that bench meet somebody's ass
and he needs to leave him there for quite a
long time to make a point, George, so that they'll
understand if you, I'll lose with the walk Ons, George.
That's what pach Coach Pope has to explain to his
team day, I'll lose with the walk Ons. That's all
(31:31):
go ahead, Dre.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
I agree, I agree with you to a point, Jed.
With this new n I l the new transfer road,
you don't have that same kind of command. I can
leave after the message. I don't get the minute. I
don't play like I think I should play. You don't
give me the time my knee, Jared, I'm walking out
your door to Margo, and I'm gonna get paid again.
(31:53):
I got the things that you well, Bobby nice.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Now here's the deal, George. Now, George, do you really
think I'm gonna ask you? Yes, they're being paid. I
got no problem with the players being paid even.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
That's not the problem. That's not the problem. But I
can leave your school though, Jared, you couldn't do that
back in the day you had that a full year.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
I agree, I agree, you can walk out to my morning.
I'll be playing if you want to. Well, no, Georgia,
not basketball, not yet. Football, not basketball yet. Let's don't
say that yet. But they're not leaving now, playing in January.
But they're playing the next one.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Well not January, but I'm playing next year. I'm playing
next year. There you go. I'm still getting my.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Mind to hope, George. You have to hope this goes
back to the coach when you're evaluating your players, George,
you have to hope your player wants to play well.
You have to hope your player wants to be successful.
You have to hope, and you're recruiting that you're a
good character, so that that's earlier. You have to hope.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
What I said, I said you evaluation part, Jared. It's
so short. You don't really get to know the players
like you did back in the day. It's such a
posis because you're competing against everybody to get that one player.
A lot of times, you don't get to evaluate the
total player. You're evaluating the skills and skill level. You
don't get to know his family. You don't get to
know his friends. You know when you were recruiting Jail,
(33:08):
you know all of them.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
You know my question, George, here's a question. No, George,
you're correct. I want everybody to listen to. This kid
named Austine Union and Steve Rush came to my team
when I turned it around at AMT. I'm gonna bring
them on the shows so they can both tell you
that they thought I was trying to unrecruit them because
I was, George. I was telling them the truth now
(33:30):
that you're paying the players. In my opinion, you don't
have to recruit is hard. You should bring them in
and say I got X amount of dollars. That's what
the kids want to hear. That's what I want to hear.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
It's not a negative.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
That's what everybody wants to hear when they're working the job.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
No doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
This is what but this is what this money entails.
This is what I want. Don't accept my money. If
you're not going to accept these rules, that's all. I wouldn't, George.
They would have to say yes to the rules. They
want the money, George. They say you've got a great payroll.
I don't know what that payroll is, but they say
(34:05):
it's one of the highest or the highest in the country. Okay,
maybe right, maybe wrong. I hate that. I don't know
for a fact I hate that, but I don't. But yes,
I believe that they're being paid a lot of money.
So George, to me, when you think it would be
easier to say, here's the money, this is but this
is what it comes with. That's all. And for me, George,
for me, it's all the way down the shirttails in George,
(34:27):
I cut players for shirttails out. My players are tell you, George,
if I'm paying you, I see have more.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
We have a stuck fish right now, you have a shuck.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
You might be right, George. You might be right, George.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
This is something you might This is something else you're
not evaluating. Jarge. I don't think I look at it.
I'll say, is that you know this is a new process.
What's this the third year?
Speaker 1 (34:48):
N I l m hmm. Correct.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
It's really hard to wrap your hands around how you
really evaluate how you get the players to jump in
and do the things that you said you want them
to do. There is a way, but you have to
like everything else, there's a money process we do.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
We gotta go.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Night heads got you.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Let's get Mike comes. We get to break Mike.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
George, George, I normally agree with you, But Buddy, I'm
telling you right now, if you want to leave, there's
a door, don't let it hit you with the good
Lord split you, because there's five of the guys that
will hustle their butt off to take your place.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
We got a team full. We have a team full
of We have a team full of six men who
aren't used to being one of the top five, not
counting the freshmen. And the way they the way they
embarrassed us the other night, I'd have pulled red shirt
years them guys would have been sitting on the bench
and the guys who were red shirting would have been
(35:44):
in there earning their time.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
I agree with you, But how would the fans take that? Smile?
How would UK take that? If the bitch winning that
game again? They got blown out even once.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
We were already getting blown out and embarrassed, Orgy was
already getting blown out and embarrassed. That's why the boons
came out. And you know what, I in my fifty
five years, I have never ever heard all the fans
bore off players and our coaches, even in the even
in the Billy Gillespie era. But you know what, it
(36:19):
was warranted. They earned, every freaking one of them. And
when you get paid, and when you know, normally I
ain't I'm not forbooing the kids, but you know what,
you're not a kid. Now you're a professional. You're getting paid,
and now you're gonna go there you go, And yeah,
(36:39):
I want them paid. With that, And speaking of being paid,
I think Jerry should pay all three winners that went
five and oh y'all have a good day.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Take us.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
People are going on the air now they have a
heart attack after the break. Welcome back to the sports
radio guys seven George, I.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Got a question a few jar Okay, well we got.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
A caller, so hit me quick.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Okay for what go for it? Go for it?
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Okay, let's bring ran to the show. Rod with sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
How are you well? Well, what's up?
Speaker 7 (37:17):
Gusts so?
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Coach with the coach?
Speaker 7 (37:22):
Well, Jerry, what we've got down there right now? I
mean the prisoners are running the prison m h. And
the coaches of the man respect. Okay. We got a
guy that stands over there with his arms folded with
a smirk on his face when all this is going on.
(37:42):
I never see him getting after the players, I mean
really getting after him. I never see him getting after
the officials. You can't be everybody's friend and be in
that position. Let's just face it. He's in over his skis.
This guy can't handle this job to be He's spent
twenty two million dollars. He's the one that constructed this
(38:02):
this roster, nobody else said, and so he gets to
take the responsibility. You can't run a five out offense
when you got no shooters.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
You just can't.
Speaker 7 (38:13):
It's not it's not rockets, okay.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
And and to.
Speaker 7 (38:19):
Worry about worry about how the players feel. Hey, George,
Mike's right, there's a door, sun see you have a
nice day. I couldn't put you're gonna conform and you're
gonna do things my way, or or you're gonna be
as Jerry said.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
But meat bingch. But I got question for you, Ryan,
Where is all these rumors come out over the summer,
how great a shooters he had? How did everybody acquaint
that he had so many great shooters and now we
see them on the floor and none of them can shoot.
Where did all the prinsicators who predicted that shooters were
greater done a fantastic job? And where are they are?
(38:57):
A bunch a bunch of gas back? I guess I
don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 7 (39:02):
I don't know who puts take garbage out?
Speaker 2 (39:04):
I don't know. That's all I heard from some of
how way Kentucky can shoot. And they've got the best
shooters in the country, and you won't have to worry
about the outside. They're gonna clean it up. But now
I don't see none of these people were the people.
Speaker 7 (39:14):
But we got players. We got players that were good
last year. Regressing look it old way. Okay, that's there's
something going on. Okay, first off, I think there's a
problem within the chemistry of the team. That's obvious to me.
That's obvious they have They don't respect their coach because
(39:36):
they don't do anything he says. They're not they're not
scared of him anymore. They're not scared of what he's
gonna do to him, whether he's gonna bend them or whatever.
And you know, you can say, well, they can go
somewhere else and get paid. Well, who wants to pay
players act like that?
Speaker 1 (39:50):
That's where That's where I am. Ron Te George. I
don't think they get as much when they watch what
they're seeing this year. I don't think people are throwing
money at them when they're watching what they see. I
think they like some production.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
I understand what you're saying, but my things there, they're
not spread up that we can leave and we can
still get paid. Because you look on TV, I can't
every game I look at every almost every school has
at least full transferred. I don't know anybody stays at
their school, so they don't worry about that anymore. They
just go to another school. You don't know how much
they love basketball. What's the probable coach?
Speaker 1 (40:25):
But that's the coaches. George even understand.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
But like I said, don't get a long evaluate.
Speaker 7 (40:32):
I want to say I want to say this. I
want to say this, Jerry. Look, I think Mark Pope
is an exceptional human being. I think he's a very
intelligent man. We all know that he could have been
a doctor and and he's a good person as people go.
But that doesn't make you a good basketball coach at
the Division one level. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
B Yu is different than Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
That's a fact.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
People better understand that. Oh, yes it's different. Yes, it's different. Guys.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
We gotta go.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
GreatCall, right, George, have a great week, guys, guy will it.
I'll be back tomorrow. Shannon get well, Eastwarts Radio. We
love you all. Talk to you tomorrow about bout it.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
I know the feeling. Shannon
