Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio. Guys. It's December sixteenth,
nine days from you know which to day. It is
nine days from Christmas, December sixteenth, twenty twenty five. It's Tuesday.
I'm a little pumped up today. I'll tell you why.
I'm a second I'm a little pumped up. But it
is Tuesday, December sixteenth, twenty twenty five. This is E

(00:25):
Sports Radio. The phone number which you must get your
games in is five zero two five seven to one
seventy nine hundred. That's five zero two, five seven one
seventy nine hundred's Sports Talk seven to ninety KRD. We've
got Shannon behind the glass and we're ready to rock
and roll. So everyone knows I get that. Monday and Friday, guy,

(00:47):
what a guy, George Williams. Tuesday, Wednesday, and it's still
a little more mellow, a little bit more mellow guy,
Scott bul Wage. Let's welcome Scott back to the show. Scott,
how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I'm doing right?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I don't know if I can match Georgia's energy.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Man, I can't either.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
And this time, this time of year, your energy getting
ready for Christmas. You've been excited about Christmas since August.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
I think pretty much. That is what it is. I've
been counting todays, counting them down.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
As soon as soon as we go under six months,
you start counting the days.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Counting them down. I went to Walmart last week, Scott.
I was going to do it on Friday. I took off,
but the weather was bad. End up doing it on
Saturday and I did damage, Scott.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I was happy in there.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I'm telling you, just toys, toys, toys damage. So anyway,
we know it's Christmas time. If you can do something
for someone, try to. If you can only do for
your family, do that. That's all I can say. But
do what you can do now, Scott. Here's the deal.
We've got a big game tonight. We've got Louisville, Tennessee.
A big game, Yes, another opportunity for Louisville road game,

(02:03):
true road game. We're going to do the scouting report.
We're going to talk about if I was coaching against
coach Kelsey. And I'm so glad it's your day on
Tuesday because you'll be able to speak about the scouting
reports and what we wanted to do and how we
wanted people to play. And we're going to go through that.
At the fifteen minute mark, got a nice little segment

(02:26):
from the ACC Network that we're going to listen to
that preludes us into what we're going to do with
the scouting report on Louisville, Tennessee. So that's first thing,
and I'm looking forward to that. I want to tell
people what they should watch tonight. I'm looking to see
coach Barnes, who is a very good coach guy, does
what I think he's going to do. We'll have to

(02:47):
wait and see. People will be surprised, but we have
to wait and see, and we're going to talk about that.
We're really going to get into that. I've been really
heavily University of Kentucky's scout because they were struggling. Got
me and why were they struggling and all the injuries
and all the things that were going on transpiring with
the University of Kentucky. I really haven't got into Louisville,
but I'm going to today because I think this is

(03:08):
going to be another good challenge for Louisville, an excellent
road game for Louisland, an excellent road game. So that's
first thing. Now, I didn't do anything yesterday Scott, with
all the news that was going on. So I'm gonna
throw it directly to you and let you well, No,
there's one other thing. I want people to know. There's

(03:29):
a heat wave outside. Scott. I'm being serious with you,
and I wouldn't got my paper. Is a heat wave?
You all dress accordingly. It's twenty five degrees. Almost broke
a sweat when to get my paper in back, Scott.
Twenty five feels like seventy five, Scott. It was so
cold this weekend, Scott.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Is it hot enough for you to get the golf
clubs out?

Speaker 1 (03:52):
And we'll be on Thursday? But god, I mean, I
hate it. I've got two meetings on Thursday. It's supposed
to rainbow, Scott. I've got two meetings. I can't reach
give it. I want to though. If it's not raining, Scott,
I may be no shows. There may be a no
show at to the meetings. I'm just gonna be honest
with you, and I'll have my clubs out. But I
just want people to know there is a heat wave

(04:12):
going on outside. It is twenty five degrees and honestly,
it feels like it's seventy and it had been so cold. Outside, Scott,
it was crazy here. So anyway, heat wave. I just
wanted everyone to know, dress accordingly. Twenty five degrees outside.
Everybody clapped, now we should. Scott was bitterly cover. So
I would thought to you, Scott National News, what's going on?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Man? I think probably the one thing you've didn't cover yesterday.
The big thing was the Heisman Trophy winner from Indiana,
Fernando Mendoza. I mean, I had an outstanding year and yeah,
close to three thousand yards passed in thirty three touchdowns
only six interceptions, led them to the number one ranking,

(04:59):
beating Ohio State in the conference championship. You know, Indiana
is a team that I mean for you know, that
area of the country that has always struggled football wise,
and in these past couple of years, it's like they're

(05:20):
they're the best. Yes, And you know now you've got
you know, Mendoza, who just solidified. And I don't even
think it was a contest. When you have the the
top quarterback on your team, you know who has the
numbers he has. And when they announced like the Heisman finalists,

(05:42):
I didn't like, I know they have to pick you know,
three other guys, but there's no contest.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yes, no, I got it.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I got the three other guys are there for show.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I agree totally to accomplish that they've accomplish Indiana, And
this is one people people don't want to give them
respect for it. Last year I called him a fluke.
I did flukish, ran the clock out, did not try
to score against Ohio State when the score could have
gotten ugly. Signetti was an excellent coach. You have to

(06:19):
give him credit foresight to play the right way. But
after last year, coming into this year and doing the
same thing and this time defeeding the NCAA champions from
last year. Oh, I'll state you have to give them
their due, Scott. That's all there is to it. You
must give Bernando Mendoza his due. But he said twenty

(06:42):
nine hundred yards, thirty three touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns. He
was a two star recruit. And this is back to
back here, Scott. Last year's Heisman Titan certain quarterback was
a one star, where Fernando Mendoza is a two star.
I think we're starting to find out that quarterbacks can develop,

(07:03):
Scott and turn into very good college football players. So
I do want to welcome to the Heisman well deserved.
I love the way he carried himself absolutely. I loved
his speech after absolutely, and I love everything about the kid.

(07:24):
I really do the mannerisms in our game perfectly. Yes,
a tough comeback at Penn State, which that's not saying
a lot. Penn State's awful got me, but he still
did it when he means something, that's all this, And
he found a way at Indiana, the losing his program
in college football, come on to win the heistsman and

(07:48):
the number one ranked going into the College FOOTBA playoffs
with an opportunity to win this thing. And I think
betting favorites, a lot of people think they're the betting favorites.
So I still like Georgia. But we're gonna have to
wait and see. This thing is gonna play out. Ohio
State and Georgia are gonna walk up. What a game.
That one will be a good game. So no questions, Scott,

(08:11):
Congratulations to he and his family, and it's on now.
The games are on, the teams are selected, the twelve
teams are in, and no more. Who's upset, who's not upset?
We know what the games are and I'm looking forward
to watching the games. But yes, I think that well
deserved Heisman winner, and I think he's gonna have a

(08:31):
I think he's gonna have a very Look at bo Nicks,
no one gave him credit, Scott, look at what he's
doing professionally, and Scott, there are a lot of people.
There are a lot of people, Scott, A lot of coaches,
and a lot of quarterbacks are straying to flip flop.
Trevor Lawrence is playing well. We're starting to see younger
quarterbacks are taking this thing over. Yes, Scott, the NFL

(08:52):
is starting to switch again. So I think it's a
great time. So I'm looking forward to hing. Congratulations to
him and his family. Now there's another side.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, I got I gotta bring that up.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Okay, go Papia Jesus.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
I know, I know you, like deep down inside, like
I know you feel like you're the best, and when
you get to that stage, like you feel like you
have a chance, right just internally as a competitor, you
feel like you're probably better. But what he did and
what he said afterwards was something honestly that can ruin

(09:38):
his future. Well, we can't even repeat what he said.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Doris Sanders was arrogant. I don't think to this level.
That is not at all all times, Scott. Scott. When
I read that first, I thought it was fake. Scott,
I did. I've gotten caught up on that. I'm old, guys,
I look at social media. I'm dumb. I send it
to people to make sure verify this for me, because

(10:07):
you know I'm dumb. I'm gullible. Other than I won't
give you apinion if you call me on my phone.
But anyway, I'm gullible. Other than that, Scott, I'll give
you I'll pay for somebody's dinner in a restaurant they
never know it. But other than that, don't ask me
for any money because I don't mind saying no. But Scott,
I can't believe the kids said that. Scott. Just let

(10:27):
me put let me preface it this way. Scott and
I've had a lot of fun on my show, and
I want people to know. His name is Doug Schlomer.
You got mister basketball in nineteen seventy eight. When he
got mister Basketball. I did not say a word publicly,
nor did Vincet. We know it was a different world then.
Newspapers did call, TV stations did interview me. But of

(10:49):
course no, we did not say anything like that. Okay,
did I want to win mister basketball? I told people
that's the one award, Scott, I want it more than anything.
That funny. It meant a lot back then, it really did,
Scott so and I didn't win it. So when I
got my show forty years later, I let people know

(11:11):
because the career passed. For athletics, the cake has baked
got me, the cake has risen, the cake has icing.
There's no question Vince Taylor and Jerry's were better players
than Doug Slummer. Now Doug Swimmer is a lawyer in Cincinnati. No,
Swimmer has done extremely well for himself. So I don't

(11:32):
want you all to ever think that I don't know
what Doug is accomplished. Great things got me, But athletically,
the cake is done, Okay, Scott, Doug was not better
than us in high school and college. Period. He was
not better than us in grade school, elementary school. He
was not period. So there's two it. The voters made

(11:53):
a bad choice, period. But I mean, the cake is baked.
But for Pavia to say what he said when the
cake is not baked, his career's not finished. Man, Dooz's
career's not finished. Love's career at Notre Dame is not finished.
He may be the lead rusher ever in the NFL.

(12:16):
Go Lee, slow your role, let the cap bank just
continue to improve what you do, and you show them
with your career. Probably not your mouthy. See that's the
thing with at Ballard. I told you, George, we always
have a great time. There was no trash talking. Richard

(12:36):
Smith didn't allow. It's got play the game, period, That's
all play the game. Coach Crumb was so upset at
me at LSU Scott and I did. I did go
down to deal Brown. It's probably five minutes ago and
we are up twenty and they took out Ethan Martin,

(12:57):
a little bitty point guard's got first team all this.
See that terrorized Kentucky. And he had talked so much
stuff to me the day before in Houston. I'll never
forget it. Gus Rudolph, one of my teammates from Shiny
High School on the Kentucky and then all thirteen tell
me what Etan was gonna do. He's gonna kill you.
He's gonna kill you. Riddy, Mickalely, just wait, we're gonna

(13:17):
it starts at the point guard. I'm like, okay, I'm
a sophomore, he's a senior. He's got our kneel down
in front of deal until Dale, Dale, are you ever
gonna put that little s'll be back in the game.
I didn't say s, so be I said choice words.
Dale jumped up and started yelling at Danny. They were
close friends, really close friends. Got me, coach curmcoss time out.
What did you say, God, I'm just being honest with you.

(13:38):
I lied, I said nothing, Coach. He looked at me
and I said, Coach, I ain't say anything. I did.
Those guys I did. I did. But you'll have to
understand that little boy had mouthed me all through the game,
all the day before. Okay, so I had to, and
I asked him when he's gonna put his little back
in the game so I could get some more of him.

(14:00):
But Scott, you don't do what Davi o Pavia did
nationally right where you pick up your phone and let
everybody in the world know what you're thinking. That's all
there's too that's just a bad decision. So the young
man has apologized, Scott, But I just don't know when
you put yourself out there like that, young man. You've

(14:21):
got a lot to do to rebuild your reputation because
Scott I was a Pavia guy. I know he's oldest guys,
he's oldest can be, so you should be in the
running for the heisman Jesus Christ. I mean he's old
as he can be. Scotty's twenty four to twenty five
years old, been in college forever. But still hold your thoughts.
That's all so Scott words seven. When we come back,

(14:43):
we're going to guys, get your scores in. Scotty didn't
give them to you, But Scotty give out the games
where we go to break Okay.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Our game that everybody's got to pick is Alabama at Oklahoma.
That's the big game.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Adam. I took the under on you, Adam. Some people
are sending me their scores like they do. Adam took
Oklahoma twenty eight, Alabama twenty one. I took the under
twenty seven. I want you all to know Alabama's favorite
by one and a half and the over unders forty
and a half. Give them the other four game, Scout.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
We gotta get to break Miami Texas A and m
Tulane at oh Miss, James Madison at Oregon, and then
the NFL game is the Packers at the Bears. Those
are the five.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Games, and that's down to a one and a half
point spread. I tried to pick the toughest game. Guys,
I want to see who knows sports. This is E
Sports Radio for numbers five zero, two, five seven, one,
seventy nine hundred. Give us a call, gets scores in
five hundred dollars is on the line, and we're gonna
let you out here a little bit from the ACC
network about the Louisville scouting report, and we're gonna give

(15:56):
you a true scouting report after the break. Welcome back
to Eating Sports Radio. Did you hear that car commercial
meets under your feet? Shanny, you did a good job.
I'm gonna tell you what, boy, other than John the owner,
let me just get it out there. Other than John
the owner a plus, he's a cat. I mean, Shannon,

(16:19):
he's a cat to another level. I mean, I've got
Kentucky friends. John. My goodness. Anyway, John, I'm gonna give
you a pass today. Welcome back to the show, Scott.
We're gonna listen to a little scouting report that the
ACC Network did talking about this Tennessee Louisville game, and
then you and I are going to get into breaking

(16:41):
down University Louisville and what I would do defending Louisville,
and I just want people to know. And I'm glad
you're on today, Scott, is because Louisville played the way
I played from the year four through year ten or nine,
ten eleven, whatever I got fired, Scott, I played small
and shot tons of threes. And we're going to talk

(17:03):
about that. But I want people to listen to this clip.
So Shannon play the clip for US Police and then
we're gonna go.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
It makes them so difficult to guard in so many
different levels is sometimes they're.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Five men are playing really well.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
So I'm going to show a couple of clips from
a few games ago with Ali Khalifa at the five position.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
He is such a terrific passerd.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
This is what makes them difficult to cover because you
have five men to do different things. Now, Sananda Fru
can pass sure, but this is what Khalifa does. He
puts it on a dime. He reads defenses incredibly well
and in the same set right here against Arkansas, just
his ability to function out on the perimeter, leave all
that space in the paint, and then you find chances
for your teammates to work in the half court. Now Here,

(17:42):
Sananda Pru fake hand off coming to Mikel Brown Junior.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
You're all American freshmen. Fake you jump one way. He
has a runway for this airplane to take off. Sernanda
Frew the.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
German big oh rush forget about it.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
That's another thing.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
And because you're so used to chasing these shooters off
out on the perimeter, it expands your defense out that
paint is open.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Quit ball screen, get down to the paint. It makes
it simple.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
You have Ali Khalifa, who's not.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
The most vertically inclined guy. He's passing it, he's carving
out room, doing his early work. And Frew, on the
other hand, a lop threat, a guy who can.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Put it on the deck.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
This is a team that can attack you in so
many different ways. And I didn't even talk about Vaygella Zugris,
who is more of a pitbull down on the block too.
So you have three different fives and they can play
three different ways, and it's a nightmare for opposing coaches
to have to prepare for all right, Scott.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
So they were giving him a little scattered report on
Louis's five position the seminar and okay, and Greg, I'll
get right to you. Thank you shamming, but I want
to get We'll get the first portion out, Scott. Let's
talk about Scotter report. First thing we would do at
Simmons when we were scouting the team is we would
talk about what what would you want me to diagnose

(18:55):
for you?

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Right?

Speaker 2 (18:56):
So their style of play like what is Louisville's style
of play?

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Guys?

Speaker 1 (19:03):
I wanted people to understand. They said that Khalifa was
vertically challenged. He's not getting off his feet at all.
He's limited offensively. So they put him out on the
parimber and say be a quarterback and they do a
lot of Dho's dribble hand off, Scott. They run a
lot of screens off of the ball a lah Bobby

(19:27):
Knight trying to get slips, picks and open threes, and
he is the pastor are we still good? Sound like yes? Okay, great? Great? Thanks.
So I just guys, I'm so nervous because I never
know what my computer's gonna kick off. So I have
to ask you and have to step in for me.
But yes, so Scott, that's the first form, and they

(19:50):
want him to be the quarterback. He is there, Tom Brady,
he is their Aaron Rodgers. Okay, I would force him
out as far as possible. Receiving the ball. I told
Kentucky fans that Kentucky allows the ball to be caught
on the elbow, the free throw line and the free
throw lane where they come together. That's a no no.

(20:11):
You can't guard a team if the ball's caught there.
So I'm telling you all tonight watch Tennessee. They're going
to force Louisville's centers through Khalifa off of the box
where they catch the ball further out on the perimeter.
That's job number one for Tennessee exactly. So that if

(20:33):
they do run dho's, which are dribble handoffs, guys, and
you have the shooters shooting long McNeely shooting long threes.
I wanted long threes, contested Scott. They run the offense
very similar to what we ran at North Carolina A
and T, which I called power high guys. I had

(20:57):
no one in the paint. I lifted everyone, but I
had shooters differently than Kentucky. Kentucky runs power high, Scott.
They just don't have the shooters that we had. So
I want to give example, so Scott knows this. We
went to play to Paul University. At De Paul had
a little kid, Steve Rush was five foot eight, maybe
five to nine. He was in a little shooting slump.

(21:19):
But the kid could really shoot the ball. I said,
just relax and shoot every good ball. He hit ten threes.
We beat De Paul was ninety six ninety four, Scott.
Is that about right somewhere in there mid nineties for
both teams? Okay? And I told my players, because we
were a bunch of midgets like Louisville, I wanted teams

(21:40):
if they scored ninety points, I wanted them to have
thirty three Scott. So Tennessee's very physical. Tennessee's going to
bang them out. I think Tennessee limits their offensive rebounds
are the things I'm looking for. So firstly, it's how
do they handle the five position. What do they do

(22:02):
to force louisveos fives to catch the ball. Make a
quarterback instead of throwing a five yard out, make him
throw a twenty yard completion every time the further you
forced the center out, Guys, the further the pass is
for Khalifa. I would back off of Khalifa, Scott. Once
I forced him out, I would back off and to

(22:24):
take away the passing lanes. That's what I would do.
First and foremost. Guardian University of Louispool. Now let's get
to our caller, Scott. Then we'll get to the second sector. Greg,
where to these sports radio? Are you done?

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Good man?

Speaker 5 (22:37):
I'm glad you're talking about that game. You little nervous
about your boys going into Tennessee?

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Oh my god?

Speaker 3 (22:44):
How could it be? Scott?

Speaker 1 (22:46):
Greg is the biggest Tennessee fan, No noub that you've
called me.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
Hey, look, I want to chase something. Here's what I think, man, truly,
I think you're right on point there. But the other
thing you gotta look at is Barnes is starting brown.
He's a freshman. He's like sixth say, he's a grown man.
He's strong him and carrying out part inside. Who's gonna
guard them? For little nobody? They don't have anybody that

(23:13):
can guard you buy it strong inside? They are strong inside.
Now Tennessee's weaknesses are guards because Amen hadn't been playing
up to his par yet and Glaste tries to do
too much. But they don't have the shooters they've had
in the past. But if they pound it inside, they're
gonna give Lousll some trouble.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Got Well, we'll see, Greg, now that you've called me,
Louisville has no problem.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
Now that you've called me, Yeah, that's gonna be a
good guy.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
You know.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
Let me tell you another tidbit. I think it was
twenty nineteen or something eighteen when Wisconsin came. That's the
the last time Tennessee has been an underdog at home
to a non conference team. And they well, Kansas was one,
Texas was one, and they won all three. So I'm
just gonna throw that out there too.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
But no, your wounded. You've lost her in a row.
I think that Louva was gonna be without a doubt
your best effort. I mean, they have to. They lost
her in a row. They should be desperate. Just like
we were talking about Kentucky had to have a win.
Tennessee has to have a win. They do agree. Let's
get to the game because because we're gonna go not
finished with the scattery report, Let's go Alabama Oklahoma. What

(24:23):
you score.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
I think I think Oklahoma's I like Alabama, but they
don't have a running game, and Oklahoma's defense is one
of the best in the SEC. So I'm gonna say
twenty four, twenty two Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Okay, are you getting in the briars patch? Yes, the
over unders forty I mean that's just m and you're
sitting right at that forty six. Gosh, gosh, take Alabama.

Speaker 5 (24:53):
I talk Oklahoma Alabama.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Oh no, no, I always I know what I'm doing here.
Don't try to tell me how to spend my money.
I'm going with you under. I'm taking Ounklahoma in twenty three,
I'm taking the under. Okay, let's go Miami at Texas A,
and N.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
Texas A and M Crush.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Okay, Tulane at Ole, Miss oh Miss, James Madison at Oregon.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
I'm no organ smashing here.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
The game Packers at the Bears is almost a one
and a half point game.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
Now, Packers, I'm taking the Packers from my dad.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Okay, gotcha? Well, you just continue sweating all day. My
Cardinals are in Knoxville and we're ready.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
Now that you call it day, you're gonna see that
three point on defense extended to I take dropping, I'll go,
but this will be the most physical game that was
played this year.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
I guarantee you that, absolutely, no question.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
That's why I'm looking forward to appreciate the cag you too,
Thank you man. So Scott, greg is correct about that
this is going to be a war. I mean, Tennessee
is going to bang bodies. Now, Scott, before we go
to break, let's get to the second question that chand
for me, what would be the second question when we
were sitting there, what with a team, what do they

(26:18):
want to do? Second?

Speaker 3 (26:20):
How do.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
How does Louisville get their opponents to play their style
of play? Because it's a different style of play? Is
that a lot of teams aren't used to it is And.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
I want people to know we did the exact same thing. Guys.
We never went our conference. Our shooters did not make
but we were very good and we had high major
wins on the road. We beat sm U and they
ran seventeenth in the country. It just beat Oklahoma because
when you have perimeter shooter, Scott, you make coaches nervous

(26:56):
because you never know. We killed I. We wore Penny
out yesterday, George and I did but when you have
three players come off the bench that hit three threes
that haven't hit them like that, well, it's hard to
beat a team when they're hitting three pointers like that.
Got me. Now, Coach Caliperry had long athletes and got

(27:17):
the lead from the beginning and kept control of the
game and forced Louisville to shoot contested threes. And I
think it was eighty nine eighty three. It still got close.
It got down to a four point game with less
than five to go, which I give a Louisville credit for,
but Arkansas had control of the games. Got me. The
way Louisville gets people to do it.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Is this.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
Three hundred and fifty two. People like, what's that? Three
hundred and fifty two threes? In ten games they shoot
thirty five a game. That makes teams nervous. Guys, they
shoot thirty five a game. They're committed to shooting three pointers.
So when you're playing a team committed to shooting three pointers,
you have to make a decision. Okay, Now, coach kyl

(28:02):
ran them off the three line, and I want people
to know he did a great job. Louis was shot
twenty two percent from the three. They still scored eighty points.
I want people to know Kyle still outscored him. He
ran him off the three line, but he didn't stop
him from scoring. Louisville average is ninety four game eighty
on the road is still very good, guys. Okay, to

(28:22):
shoot twenty two percent from the three. What Louisville does
that people don't understand. They get thirty nine points a
game from the three. The average ninety four. They get
fifty five from lifts and free throws. I'd be frightened
to the lifts and free throws. And you know this

(28:42):
Gutty I called it Aggie. I guarded the mess out
of the ball. If my man had the ball, I
wanted him dribbling the ball. That makes you small. If
you make a player dribble, it makes it hard to
enter to the post. It's I'm hard to beat you
up in the paint. And then I told people I
wanted four people's closest they could be to have a
foot in the paint if I was gonna get beat

(29:03):
I used to say, Scott, I want you to tell
people if they score ninety what would I tell them
how I wanted them to get ninety points? Scott tell
them what I tell them thirteen before the game. Thirty threes, guys,
thirty threes, thirty threes. I want no free throws. I
can guard the lane, I can guard fifteen feet and
then Bobby Knight Tennessee is gonna extended. But they're gonna
beat Louisville up in the paint. I can guard that.

(29:25):
I can dictate no layups. I can be mad when
teams are dunking the ball. I can be mad when
they're getting second shots because I've got four people blocking
out like maniacs in the paint. Like maniacs. I used
to tell the team, and this is not socially acceptable,
but screw it, and we're gonna get the break shedding.
I used to tell them guys were blocking out like

(29:48):
runaway slaves. I want that ball after one shot. The
second shot will beat me. We are small, we are
midget's Louisville, Indiana small in stature. Your t I was
Barkley talking about it. Now, Scott, I want you to
tell people. I said, guys, we gotta be piranhas, and
there's blood in the water when that bass shot. I

(30:08):
don't care how we come up with it. We have
to limit bigger, better teams to one shot. That's all.
That's what I would do to Louisville. Louisville scored sixty
three percent of their points on free throws and layups.
But everybody's enamored by run them off the three line,
Swaggy did. They shot twenty two percent. They still scored
eighty points. They had eighteen free throws at Arkansas. They

(30:31):
shoot a lot of free throws. Guys. You can limit
that as a coach. So I just wanted to bring
the people's attention. Thirty nine points from the three they
hit thirteen per game, got me? They shoot thirty seven percent.
They made one hundred and thirty two threes and ten games.
That's what I'm just telling people. Thirteen a game, thirty

(30:54):
nine points. I give him a few more threes they
get fifty. No free throws, no free throws, no layups.
Louisville has a hard time winning. I had a hard
time winning at ant. We're gonna go to break. We'll
get back with other things that has to transpire in
today's game. But I just wanted to explain to people.

(31:15):
All you hear the announcers talk about three point three
point three point three pointers. I have a few people
that call me and say, how do you get to
the free throw line? You can limit that, Yes you can, Scott,
and we did. We did it for a living. We
did for six or seven straight years. No free throws.
You can take that away if you guard. The pay

(31:37):
is the sports radio. Your scores in, Scott and I'll
be back after the break. Welcome back to the sports radio.
Thank you. Send phone numbers five zero, two, five, seven,
seventy nine hundred. I'm going straight to my next caller, Joe.
Welcome to the sports radio.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
How are you, yeah, Joe, Good Lorning, Good Lorning, Good.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Morning to you.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Yeah. I just had a chance to call. Yet I
can't call because I'm an uber driver and I can
just listen to you. So when I don't drive, I
have opening this morning. So it's good to join you.
Grew great.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
I appreciate it. I'm glad that you're doing that, getting
people back and forth safely. You be safe out there.
It's a heat waiting out there that I'm telling you,
I'm gonna go sweat coming with me.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Oh boy, gonna be a great one.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
All right, Joe, let's get to it. Alabama, Oklahoma for
the money.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
Joe, I gotta go with out. I gotta go with Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Okay, what's your score?

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Twenty seven to twenty four?

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Okay, are you gonna get in the Briars patch or no?

Speaker 3 (32:38):
W I will Oh yes, sir, I'm definitely getting that
with you today.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
I'm going to under. I'm staying on the under. You're
going with Oklahoma. I'm going with the under. That's the
defensive team of the two. Okay, to Miami, it takes
his an n everybody's gonna take you.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
I'm going that. I'm gonna go with Miami. Acc is
down and we got to make them, make them look good.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Okay, I got you your first one so far. Tulane
at Ole.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Miss oh Man, that's gonna be a great one. Gotta
go with old Miss. They want to show the coaches
that uh that that they can play without me. Mhmm.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
James Madison, Oregon, Oh games, Madison.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
They gave little wall. They want the first half and
and they don'et elevate themselves up to a good team.
I'm going with James Madison.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Okay, there's nothing wrong. I've seen people do that. A
sleepless one when he took some of you would think
the underdogs, packers at the Bears.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Where are they playing at Chicago?

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Green Chicago? In Chicago.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
I'm taking Chicago then, got you, Joe.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
You'd be safe out there, brother, And I'll let you
know what poos open that we can go on heat
wave outside open. Appreciate your brother. Bye. So, Scott, during
the break, you sent me something. I want you to
make a poignant statement to our listeners about style of play.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Yes, you have to be committed to whatever style of
play that you're playing.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
When we were at A and T, we were committed
to shooting threes, and then we were committed to giving
up threes that was.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
And pressing that was and pressing them right. But the
pressing you gotta put the pressing in right, see Scott.
People need to know. Yes, the pressing piece, guys, is
there to take away people's legs if you work them
all game. The first thing to go and a player
gets fatigued is its legs. And what is the second
thing to go? Long range jump shots. So no, I

(34:47):
didn't play half court defense, score a run back and
say guard the paint. No, you'll get killed. I press
people ninety four feet with the purpose to make them work,
with the purpose to say, the last ten minutes of
the second half, guys, they won't have legs to hit threes,
and we'll have a chance to beat them. But we

(35:08):
chose a style of play. I've told a few people
that Coach Beard knows it, Brian knows it. A few
of my friends know it. Jeff Howard, Martin number that
that's what we did. Tot Auntie. We chose so, guys,
I want you to understand. Mike min was sitting on
my bench at Simmons Simmons. We're playing boys, which is
Southern the illogical, which is just right up the street, Scott.

(35:31):
They came out and probably hit their first eight threes.
Tony Brands jumped up. We got to guard the three
lines of the truth, Scott. I hit it with what
I hit you with. And Tony is the best of
the world. Tony's listening. He'll tell you this is the truth.
O god it. I brought him a little closer than
I did with you, but I brought him close enough
to I told Y, shut up, sit down. I clapped

(35:53):
when teams made threes. Early tell the truth, Scott. When
you had nine shooters making shots. I used to tell
my teams that's just what I want. Make them make
it all game, period, make them make it all game.
But we're gonna press them every possession, makes our misses
dead balls. We pressed them. We wanted to make them work. Scott,

(36:17):
and we limited people's free throws. You can limit people's
free I'm just telling you, oh, coaches, that's one thing
you can limit. That's a choice. If you're giving help
on dribble penetration and allowing one pass away kick shots,
you can take away free throws and overloading a strong side.
You can take away free throws. Guys and teams have
not done that now. Coach Caliperia helped Louisit to eighteen

(36:40):
free throws on the road. That's a lot of free
throws on the road. Guys still scored eighty points. They
outscored them eighty nine to eighty. Cincinnati was not good enough.
Cincinnati limited Louisville also to their shooting. They shot poorly,
but they were able to beat Cincinnati and again in
the Cincinnati game twenty four to twenty eight. That's free
throw line. Cincinnati did not limit. They live some free throws.

(37:05):
I'm waiting to see this game. Coach Barnes is a
good coach. Cut he knows what he's doing. They're gonna
be very physical with the Louisville. If Louisville is hitting
their shots, then Louisville's very hard to handle, just like
we were on SMU and people are like saying, maybe, well,
you didn't have enough big win, Scott, I'm gonna give

(37:27):
it to you between oh, Saint Louis and Arizona States
and all the big boys that are legitimate New Mexico
and bringing players out of suspension at halftime. Guys, you
all don't know we had. We should have won honestly,
ten high major dent games of salad play because we

(37:47):
limited at on the road. I still said, I don't
want team shooting free throws on us. You can do that, guys,
if you're committed to a coaching, to a style of play,
that's all I'm saying. And I want to see more
coaches be committed to what they do. I said it
about Kentucky, Scott. They give up too much transition baskets, layups,

(38:08):
second shot points, three pointers. Louisville makes a living, Scott
on second chance points every game they've played they've shot
at least they've gotten at least nine offensive rebound Scott.
That's a lot for a bunch of midgets all the games.
Arkansas also, So I don't think that happens tonight. I

(38:29):
think Arkansas. I think Tennessee has to have it. I
think Tennessee winsday night. Scott. It's a must win for Tennessee.
And I think that Louisville, they'll get Louisville get Tennessee's
best effort. Now, if Louisville's making shots and Tennessee's not
disciplined defensively, which means they hit the three, they get
to the free throw line, they get their layups with

(38:51):
throughom the on the slips on the pick and rolls
on the dunks on the dh o's, And the guy
showed you all early in that tape you were listening to,
through faked a handoff, turned the corner and shot a
wide open dunk because they were playing the three point
line so hard that they gave up an easy layup.
That keeps you consistent. So, Scott, this is a good one.

(39:14):
We'll talk about it tomorrow. Because coach Barnes knows what
he's doing. He is a defensive minded coach, So go ahead.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
And Tennessee's been struggling. I mean their past four games,
they've only scored. They scored seventy six against Houston, seventy
six against Kansas, sixty against Syracuse and sixty two.

Speaker 1 (39:37):
Surprisingly, right, Syracuse lost. Surprisingly, Kansas and Houston are very
good teams. Got Kansas and Houston right. No, absolutely, they
played their good teams. But it's surprised they beat Houston, yes,
and they beat him exactly, lost to Kansas, lost to
Syracuse by two. That surprised me. So I am looking

(39:57):
forward to this game. I want to see it. Louisville
can get Tennessee to play their style of ball. All
we can do is wait and see and evaluate, and
we talk about it tomorrow. So now, Scott, what else
are we going to get into tomorrow? H Cooper Flag, Scotty,
that voice really good forty two last night. And so

(40:18):
so here's the thing, coach.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
So everybody talks about Cooper Flag and how how he
you know, potential Rookie of the year, but quiet kept
Knker Nipple.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
With the Charlotte Han.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Yes he is.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
He has a very good chance of winning Rookie of
the Year. This year. He's putting up legitimate numbers.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Charlotte is I mean young core. They do, they do,
and to our death, we're going to get out right
more about Patrick Mahomes. We're going to talk about that.
The NFL is oh and Parsons, We're gonna talk about that.
We'll know more after they get their diagnosis. We know
they've turned their ac but we want to see the
extent of the damages on both. We'll get into that

(41:03):
and where Patrick Mahons is meant to the NFL the
last eight year, Scott is crazy good. I mean, it's
unbelievably good what Patrick Mahomes has done in a grown
man's league. And I've always said that football is not
for long. That's what the NFL stands for. Guys. You'll
have a great date, watch the game tonight and we'll

(41:26):
talk to you all tomorrow. Great job, Scott,
