(01:15):
This is an awesome pop up show we're doing right now.
We got a lot to explain, but first I have
breaking news that I've got to tell you about. Okay, breaking,
we have breaking news, Matt Run, Ladies and gentlemen. Our
two of the podcast is up and available, breaking news
for all those of you that texted us and tweeted

(01:37):
us all day long yesterday. Hour two of the podcast
from yesterday is available for your listening pleasure. You're saying
breaking news. That's broken news. That was fourteen hours ago
the podcast went up. What are you talking about? It
was up at eight o'clock last night. Man, I'm telling you.
When you don't get that when there's something wrong, now,
it's not you. This was like technical issue. Yeah it

(01:58):
was not. Of course it wasn't me. Oh, keep being
a part of KSR as I was telling Billy on
the pre show, this is a well oiled machine. If
it ever goes wrong, podcast always goes up on time.
You know, we're always on there, no problems ever.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yeah, I already gave him a hard time about it. Ryan,
don't worry.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Okay, good.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
It's kind of like winning the lottery and all your
distant cousins come out of the woodwork and they say,
where's my money? You know, good to see you again.
It's kind of the same thing when the podcasts.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
If the podcast doesn't go up, you can tell me
about it politely, But if you yell at me on Twitter,
you're getting the mute button. I'm not going to block you.
If I block you, that gives you the satisfaction of knowing,
Oh I really got to him, he blocked. Yeah. If
I mute you, you turn into the old man yelling
at the clouds that nobody can hear. Because you're still
follow you can still comment that when I never respond

(02:47):
is because I don't even see you. You don't even exist. Well.
This is another stop in our KSR Summer pop up
Tour business tour, highlighting a lot of local businesses around
the area, and today we're at J. Mattingly eighteen forty
five distillery in Frankfurt. Come on out and see this.
This place is beautiful, twenty Riley Road. That's the address,
twenty Riley Road. J. Maddingley eighteen forty five Distillery And guys,

(03:11):
you walk in, you're like you get that wow factor,
like wow, this is really nice in here. You could
come in and do the custom experience. You get to
do the whiskey thief where you put it in your
field in the bottle which we know. You get to
pick the style of your bottle. You get to go
in and dip your bottle on the wax. So it's
a whole customized experience. When you come in here, they.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Have to blend your own bourbon experience. They took us
down to the cellar and we saw it where the
magic happens. And now we're here ready to go to
do the show.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
And this Saturday, this is why we're here. We're promoting
a big event on Saturday. J. Mattingley is eighteen forty
five launching the oldest bourbon known to be available for
public tasting. It's oh fifty years old bourbon. And they
got three UK Royalty guys that are helping promote this. Yes,
Kyle Macy, Jack Gibbons, Rick Roby are helping promot this

(04:00):
fifty year old bourbon and they've got their own bourbon.
This is the only place where you can come in
and taste it is right here at Jane Maddingley. So
if you want to come by today, the guys are here.
They're gonna join us here on the radio show a
little bit. But then Saturday is the big bourbon tasting
to try theirs their bourbon. It's fifty year old bourbon.
If bourbon's been you know, waiting for this moment for
fifty years, I would almost feel like like scared to

(04:23):
try it, you know what I mean, Like I want
to try it, but it has been sitting there for
fifty years, and this is the day that we're gonna
pop it open. So that's it's a huge day. So
it is. I hope everybody comes out and enjoys this
on Saturday with the UK legends.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yeah, and not only that, we're gonna hear from these
guys on KSR a little later today. I think the
way that we've planned it, we have four headsets and
those three guys are gonna come on at the same time.
So Ryan, hopefully you've brushed up on your interview skills
since so the Tiger Woods interview.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Just let the guys tell stories. I mean, they're doing
it right now. There's just you know, that's the thing,
you know, for like you know, like Billy's generation, maybe
your superstar UK guy was John Wall, maybe Shannon your
guy was Jamal Mashburn. Those three guys were my superstars,
all right. That's seventy eight team. I mean I was
twelve years old that was my team. I mean, it's

(05:09):
it's hard to explain the love that people had for
that seventy eight team because that's just they just love
those guys. Really, I've not seen anything match that love
that the fan base had. And it's hard to explain
if you weren't alive during that time. But it had
been a while since they'd won a title, and these
guys came along, a couple of local guys even on
the team and James Lee and Jack Gibbons, and they
won the title. That just loved to this day. Oh yeah,

(05:31):
I mean even younger generations who maybe didn't see them play,
still know who they are and still, yeah, are you
getting a little nervous, So you're got a fanboy out
when they come over here and it's just you and
all all the guys who have known the show a
long time. Matter of fact, Kyle and I used to
do the Sunday morning radio show on six thirty WLAP
Sunday Morning. Yeah, he did that for several years. Done
a little radio with Kyle as well. So come on

(05:52):
out and see if the guys are going to be here.
Jay Maddingley's eighteen forty five twenty Riley Road is the
address and we'll talk more about it throughout the show
today to get ready for their big event on Saturday. Well, guys,
we got to start with baseball last night. I mean,
what a pitching performance by both guys for five six innings.
You know, Myron Metcalf said, who is this Ace? Is
this Nolan Ryan? This this Cy Young? Well, you know,

(06:14):
as I was watching the game, I think maybe this
is Nolan Ryan or Cy Young? Oh okay, you could
not hit him, Matt, Matt, you still have the breaking news.
But we need to hit the breaking news one. Yeah,
another one on there. In the first segment, Myron Metcalf
jinks the UK baseball team last night I see the
breaking news. You know, he tried to take all the
credit for it. I said, you gotta hold on. You

(06:36):
gotta wait till they go, you know, throughout a few
more games before we give you credit for the Kentucky
baseball success. But yeah, you know, not facing Texas A
and M in the regular season I think hurt it
did obviously, uh and ELM's decision to save their ace
for this game work didn't. Yeah, I didn't do Kentucky
any favors. And now your back's against the wall. You

(06:56):
got it. You gotta win tonight and move forward, survive
in advance.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
You got to tip your cap to the guy. I
mean when you have a performance like that. The podcast
was calling him Andy Pettitt the entire time, with that
lefty delivery that he had, and Nick Minjion had some
reassuring comments in the postgame show where you said, the
last five College World Series winners did not sweep. So
they had they lost the game and had to go
through a similar situation. So these these cats have had
their back against the wall before. Yeah, and now that

(07:22):
they're going to continue.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
To prove it, I think you have to take the
approach of I mean just like you do in the
regular season when you're just trying to win a series, right,
maybe the first two games you split, you're trying to
win that Sunday game. Yeah, it's I know it's different,
but psychologically, I think if you're Menji owned, you have
to just sort of have to preach, Hey, this is
just another Sunday game. We're just trying to win the
series each game as you go throughout. So, Kentucky plays

(07:43):
Florida tonight at seven o'clock. Kentucky did win the series
against Florida this year, two game to three. I guess
understand like weather could play a big factor tonight, like
I think rain is predicted in the May bill. You
may know the broadcasting side or they may precautions of
moving this game yet or do you know.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
I know it's in the forecast. We have not got
the word that they're moving the game time yet. Okay,
it's changed in the last hour, but I have not
seen that. So six forty five pregame start for the
seven pm start local time, six pm time there, so
seven pm Eastern time here. And you know what, I
think it's a completely different Florida team than it was
that Kentucky played earlier this year. I mean, they had
to win the regional and the Super Regional on the road.

(08:25):
This is a team that probably shouldn't even have been
in CA tournament. They made it, so they've they've had
their back against the wall for a long time at
this point. So two desperate teams meeting today a little
bit later in Omaha, you.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Have to give and m credit. I mean Kentucky though,
was trying to get something started. You know, they we
talked about earlier that shot down the line that was
just inches away from ball.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, you got to think if that were fair, like
how the game may have changed. Kentucky was threatening at
one point. Runners at first and second, there's a groundball
to third, third basement, just steps on the bag, it's
an easy double play. Yeah. Little things like that were
frustrating last night, where Kentucky just couldn't break the through
the four spring through the wall, that the A and
m ace that Myron tried to jinx all day yesterday.
Ryan Prager was awesome, Yeah, I mean he had no

(09:08):
hitter into the seventh inning, yep. Just kept Kentucky off
balance the whole way. And when you can silence those
Kentucky bats. You've you've done something, and the same token
Mason Moore. I thought Billy was cruising and then it
just kind of exploded on him there in the sixth
inning and they got five runs in one inning.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, I thought he was a little amped up. He
was throwing ninety five at the beginning of the game,
a little faster than his average, but he settled in
and a guy that hadn't allowed to run in what
twenty eight innings. Yeah, postseason baseball finally gave up that spot.
That to A and M winning. But you know what
this is baseball. It's it's almost impossible to win every
single game you play in baseball. That's why it's double elimination.

(09:44):
And now the Cats will have their chance tonight.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
What kind of approach do you think Minjion ticks for
the starting pitchers. I was getting ready to ask you that
you're the picture. I was getting ready to ask you that.
I mean, at this point, your backs against the wall,
you have to throw your best, So they're number three.
He got to Yeah, you got to mess around. Yeah,
you know. The other option, of course, is to piece
together guys from the bullpen. But I don't think you
take that chance. So the rain would probably it would

(10:08):
help Kentucky. You know, if you move the game to Thursday,
you win that one. Now you played Texas A and M.
You can maybe bring Pooser back there, you know. Yeah,
And because because that's how the bracket is set up,
the winner of this Kentucky Florida game has to play
Texas A and M to win the bracket.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Right, And that's really the biggest obstacle here is the rest,
lack of rest that you now have after losing that
game versus A and M for your bullpen. But it's
just odd the way Kentucky's done it. Man, That's such
a hard ballpark to hit home runs in. And with
the wind blowing in as well it was, it was
even harder. We've seen Nicholson have back to back games
with home runs and now he's tied the single season

(10:43):
record at Kentucky with twenty three. And not only that,
McCarthy and the guy that hit the walk off, I mean,
the Cats are doing it with home runs in a
it's hard to hit ballpark.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
And if you're trying to find the sober lining of
all this, like you said, maybe you can bring pooser
back if you gotta get out Florida first. Of course,
let's not overlook Florida. But if you can get by them,
you've already seen A and M's best when it comes
to their pictures. So now if you get a rematch
against Texas, A and M, you've already seen their best,
and I think that's got to give you a little
more confidence moving into that game. But first you got

(11:13):
to take care of business. Tonight. Well, like we said,
they split, well, they mean they won two to three
against Florida over this year. The two wins went into
extra innings. Two wins. It was again, they weren't easy
wins over Florida. Yeah, and the losses they had to
Florida I think was like ten to one, so they
kept blown out in that.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
So I don't know, it's it's hard to predict what
you think might happen. Even though Kentucky has two out
of three over Florida, those were hard fought victories. So
the broadcast begat at six forty five tonight. It's first
pitch scheduled for seven o'clock. We'll have another watch party
at Cass Bar and Grill. It was packed last night.
I mean the watch party. It was packed. There was
not an empty seat in the entire restaurant, kind of

(11:50):
spilled out into the patio area. It was and you know,
like I said, for five innings, it was just a
picture's duel, isn't it great? Though? Midway through June and
we still have Kentuch to be that's true, you know,
like you know, usually by now we're talking about are
there more socks or chairs in the world? You know,
what's your favorite fast food restaurant? And now we're talking

(12:11):
about UK baseball, which is is just great. We do
happen to delive the night though, Billy, we have. We
have Singo scheduled at seven o'clock tonight. First Pitch is
also at seven o'clock. TI oh boy. So Monique is
working on it. We may get a text at some
court point during the show what we're gonna do with
Singo and First Pitch both scheduled for seven o'clock tonight

(12:31):
at Ksbar. Can we reschedule Singo? I think we're gonna try.
We're gonna look into it and see if they could
maybe move it around. I suggested maybe move single up
to six and come nice about an hour. Yeah, and
be none time for the game, but everybody, everybody was
there before first pitch packed ready to watch the baseball
game last night.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Oh, I know you've been working hard on this.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Ryan.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
You went and scouted out another restaurant Singo could bring
it to ks Bar.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Sarrio made his little video promo tape that we put
out last night of Singo. Well, it was also an
interesting last night this I guess this is for you, Shannon.
All the TVs were on the baseball and had just
a couple on the basketball. You get a complaints. I
didn't even pay attention to the basketball game. It was
a blowout from the beginning. I mean, I look, I

(13:15):
saw the score Celtics TRUP twenty in the second quarter.
I'm like, well that game's over. It's hard to make
sense of what happened in Game four. Yeah, that was
blow them out. In Game four, I was telling Billy,
and as Billy put it, you don't play with your food.
I like, like, I like putting that into the the
analogy of it. But you know, it felt like they
just didn't show up for Game four. And then we
saw the real Boston Celtics again last night. They've been

(13:37):
dominating this entire series, and then whatever happened in Game four,
they just didn't show up that night.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
We had to make more money.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Okay. So Billy on the pre show has been on
this conspiracy the thing to where he thinks that teams
will lose and tank automatically just so they could get
more advertising dollars. But I would say, well, how do
you explain Boston sweeping the Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals?

Speaker 3 (14:01):
See, he's turning it doesn't work at all here instance,
here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
He is turning into the conspiracy theory guy on this
instead of you.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Now, I'm turning into Shannon the dude.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
He's getting up. He's now he says, he wakes up.
He doesn't have to set an alarm. I heard him
say this. I've been telling you that, like when you
get on a certain schedule, I'll even wake up on
Saturdays at like the same time every morning, no alarm necessary.
So he's now experiencing the same thing where he's waking
up with no alarm. He now drinks coffee, coffee right now.
I said, pretty sure, he's pretty soon he's gonna be
waking up. He's gonna be watching the Today Show. He'll

(14:32):
put on a little stone Tiple pilots. He's turning into me. Well,
it's funny you guys say this because at our show
on Friday, it's Sulfur Creek in right, Yes, Mike Lane.
It's open to the public. We had a monster show
there last year. A ton of people were doing it
again Friday, inviting everybody out. I'm gonna have you guys
compete against each other in a version of the ks

(14:53):
R pre show Newlywed Game. Oh okay, so I'm gonna
guy some questions. We're gonna see how well you do
know each You guys are like an old married couple already.
We're coming up on our three year anniversary for the
pre show. See ye, so we're gonna play, well, I
got you still kind of newly weeds. We're gonna play
the newlywed game like the the honeymoon period's over though,
Well that that ended, I think after the first day.
All right, Ryan Billy and Shannon Mario is gonna join

(15:15):
us as well. We got Rick Roby, Kyle Macy, Jack Gibbons.
They're gonna come on at the bottom of the hour
at ten thirty. Tell us while we're out here, a
Jay Maddingley's eighteen forty five distillery and they've got the
fifty year old Bourbon tasting on Saturday, the oldest bourbon
you can taste it. A tasting will be here and
only here in Frankfurt at twenty Riley Road. Coming out
and see us. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky
Sports Radio. All right, we're back, Ryan, Drew and Billy

(15:39):
on our KSR. Is actually not here, I say, Drew, Yeah,
I'm Shannon, Shannon and Billy. Pleasure to meet you. Ryan. Uh,
Drew is enjoying you. Matt. Drew is enjoying vacation just
like Matt is.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
So.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
I saw the picture of Drew on a balcony with
his pink baseball hat on. Looked like he was asleep. Yeah, uh,
probably getting ready to make sure he was awake for
the baseball game last night. The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety,
presenting partner of our business tour this summer needs too,
mentions a show by the way, Billy that we'll make
sure to get that. And we're at Jay Maddingley's eighteen
forty five distillery in downtown Frankfort or at twenty Riley Road.

(16:12):
Come on out. I got a big event on Saturday.
We'll talk talk more about but we just got some
info about the baseball pitcher. Apparently Kentucky may start Nieman.
That am I saying it right? Nyman? Nyman? But he
was also the guy who started when Florida run ruled
him earlier this season. That's a tough call, a bit

(16:33):
of a dilemma, I would say at de vinji on
do you go? I mean, if he's your number three
and he's been that for the entire season, do you
just kind of forget about what happened there and just
still say, hey, he's still our third best option. Let's
go with him, Let's roll the dice, or do again,
do you piece something together with your bullpen? It's a
tough call.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Well, the alternative, like you're saying, is the bullpen game,
and then if you were to win, then your bullpen
is in shambles for the next game that you have
to win. So I think you've got to rely on
the guys. That guy there, and you know this is
playoff baseball. We're at the College World Series in Omaha.
I think to a degree you have to throw out
what's happened in the past, even if there is one
bad start that he's had versus the team that you're

(17:12):
going to take on. But yeah, you know what, I
think these guys are going to be confident, They're going
to be motivated. Mick min Jones talked about how they're
able to let go of a win or a loss
very quickly. So I think those that's the recipe for
success in a tournament like this.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
I'm I kind of agree. I mean, you you you lose,
you're done, season's over. You gotta throw if this is
your third best guy, even if Florida lit him up
or this year, I think you still got to go
out there and me see if you can get a
couple winnings out of him. Shannon, Yeah, I mean, and
then I guess you're trying to play devil's advocate. You
could say, well, they've already seen him before. Maybe you
want to mix things up and give Florida something they

(17:46):
haven't seen a lot of. Yeah, and maybe that is
where you go to the bo I mean, I could
see both sides. Minjones got a tough decision to make,
but you know, I'm gonna trust whatever decision he makes.
This team has been the surprise of college baseball if
we're being real about it, like nationally, I'm not talking
about in the SEC. Nationally, this team has been the surprise.
And really, like Billy said, the other surprise maybe Florida.

(18:07):
You know, they weren't even supposed to be in the
Tournamentre's a chance they weren't evenna make the tournament. Here
they are. Now you got a chance to get into
the final four and.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Two desperate teams in the best conference for baseball there is.
I mean, look at Tennessee, look at Texas A and
M look at how they've dominated. So you got to
beat the best to be the best. And I don't
think this team would want it any other way, to
be honest, They're going to embrace this challenge. And look,
the hitters have to show up. I mean, zero or
one is not enough. Ryan Nicholson was able to get
another home run yesterday, but they've got to do better

(18:34):
than that. Yeah, Nicholson prevented the shutout, you know he
was the Ryan Prager was cruising through a no hitter
into the seventh. Cats finally got two hits in the
bottom of the seventh inning, but then they were in jeopardy.
Of getting shut out. I didn't think you could shut
out this Kentucky baseball team the way they swing the bat.
You know, Shannon and I have talked a lot about
the unwritten rules of baseball on the pre show recently,
and one of them that I think that people do

(18:56):
still abide, bye is not talking to a pitcher during
a no hitter.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yeah you know, I mean I don't. I never really
understood that either, as the only no hitters I ever
have were like in little league, you know, like eleven
year old little league, and they didn't care. Then they
were just throwing some flower seeds at you and bazooka bubblegum.
It didn't matter, you know, at that level if you
were throwing a no hitter or not. But if I'm
a pitcher, I don't care like you could talk to me.

(19:19):
I think not talking to a picture that's throwing a
no hitter would be just making even more awkward in
my opinion. I know that's the unwritten rule, but because
you see them, because you would normally talk if I
was if I was going out there and I'd already
given up two runs and six hits, you would be
talking to me. Yeah, So not talking to me just
because I have a no hitter. To me, that's even
more awk. They show the guys that are having no

(19:40):
hitter going in the seventh they're sitting by themselves in
the dugout, you know, got their jacket on, keeping their
arm run and nobody's around them. I mean there is
like a bubble, you know, getting around him. You don't
want them jinxing Shannon. Baseball is ridiculous. It is. You
had a lot of superstitions when you played well. Baseball
players are superstitious by nature anyway, not me. So if
I was in a streak, I wore the same jock,

(20:00):
yeah shirt sane. I always believe if you're good, you
don't need luck. If you're good, you're good. Yeah, you know,
we're want to mess with the baseball mojo.

Speaker 6 (20:08):
Man.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Maybe you could have used a little superstitio.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
I could have want to help about college career. Now,
another good story that I think this was for you, Billy,
is Rory McElroy. Yes, I mean we talked about it
a little bit yesterday how he kind of exploded in
the final round of the US Open, missed what like
two putts that were like three feet four foot three
foot or another one was like four or five feet.
He definitely lost the US Open this week and compared

(20:31):
to Bryson d Schambeau winning it. And this is the
guy that hadn't won a major since twenty fourteen. The
last one he won was at Valhalla, so he has
been right on the cusp of a lot of them.
But he said it was probably one of the worst
moments of his career in golf, and he's taken some
time off to think about it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
I told Shannon this, all I could think about was
you missing your putts. Yeah, and then going to jail
gets in your head.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
I'm telling you, man, it gets in your head that
that hole all of a sudden, It's like it's about
the size of a ping pong ball. You're trying to
put it in. But you know, they broke last night.
He's going to take a couple of weeks away from golf,
and he said this is maybe the worst weekend he's
ever had on the golf course. But they should have
thrown him in jail too, Amen. They should have knowne
him in jail. But yeah, I mean we were talking
about you know, four hundred and ninety six plots at

(21:11):
that distance and you've been perfect. It's kind of hard.
I mean, I know that's like the biggest moment where
you really got to hit him where it really counts.
But I think you've had a good run if you've
made nearly five hundred. Yeah, think about that. Ryan.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
He was four ninety six for four ninety six under
three feet this season on the PGA Tour and then
missed that one that ultimately cost him the tournament.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
So when he missed the first one that was obviously
still in his head when he's lined up to take
the second one bogie.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Three of the last four holes, I believe to lose
the tournament. So you got a feel for the guy
that is probably considered by many to be one of
the most entertaining, if not best players in golf.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Now, a lot of people I've been making fun of Rory.
Is he not a personable guy? Is he liked in
the clubhouse?

Speaker 3 (21:52):
I mean he is a superstar in the world of golf. Yeah,
so I mean liked. I think he has liked. But
he did leave without speaking to the media. Did, And
I guess that's a faux paul for many. Yes, But
I don't know he just went through the worst moment
of his career. Some of the things we always expect
athletes to be able to answer questions as soon as
the most emotional moment of their life is over.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Hunh.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
And I think that's sometimes expecting too much. He's somebody
that interviewed people right after those moments.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
It's the worst. It's one of losing the locker room
is the absolute worst, especial when you're talking about college
kids and they're crying. It's awful. All right, Well, take
our break, come back. Rick Roby, Jack Gibbons, Kyle Macy
w all join us talk about their fifty year old
bourbon seventy eight Legends is the name of it. We
back live from j Mattingley's eighteen forty five distillery in Frankfort.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
TJ.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio
live at Jay Mattingley's eighteen forty five distillery in Frankfort,
where they have a big event coming up on Saturday
where the public can taste the oldest bourbon that you
that's available for public tasting will be Saturday here and
the guys Jack Gibbons, Rick Roby, Kyle Macy have used

(23:05):
that for their seventy eight Legends bourbon that will be
on sale here at Jay Manningley's. So Jack, you know,
we've talked you before about your bourbon, but this is
kind of a great event where people can actually have
this public tasting the fifty year old bourbon.

Speaker 7 (23:19):
Yeah, it's something new, it's fun. You know, we've been
connected with Jeff and Jay Maddingley for a while. He's
a buddy of mine. He lives in Georgetown. I live there,
so we go way back. But to have an opportunity
to taste this product, there's something new, definitely. And you know,

(23:41):
I'm not a bourbon expert, but we've talked to enough
people who are people who are have been in and
people who are familiar with the bourbon industry, and they
tell us it's a great, great, great product. Fifty year
old blended with the five year old and they've come up

(24:01):
with a recipe that is just unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
And Ricky were telling me the story before the show.
How you guys got in this involved with it, with
this fifty year old barrel bourbon. I think it's a
great story.

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Well, somebody came up to me said, we have one
more extra barrel, a fifty year old that was resting
when you all won the championship. So I said, sounds
like a great idea. Let me call Jack and Kyle
and I tasted the fifty year old. It was really
woody and heavy. So he said, let's go ahead and

(24:35):
let them do a blend with a five year old
and it came out excellent.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
So I asked, was this fifty year old bourbon barrel
bourbon is sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Speaker 6 (24:44):
And well it was the Thompson family. It was one
of their last barrels of it, and we were lucky
enough to get the opportunity to get it.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
And so now Kyle people can come out Saturday, they
can sample it, and then of course that we want
you to buy a bottle of it that seven eight
legends bourbon.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
Right, they come out and try it, and also we'll
sign stuff if anybody. We're not encouraging to bring one
hundred different things for Jack to sign, but you know,
if I'm want to bring something that will be happy
and we like we like seeing you know, the fans
that may be recalled a long long time ago when
we were playing.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Well, I said that earlier. For my generation. I was
twelve years old when you guys won the title. You
guys from my heroes. Yeah, no, it makes you feel
really old. Well, I can go back. Listen to this.
Rick Kyle Macy, I was probably eight years old and
he was mister basketball in Kentucky. He was a point guard.
He played for his dad. That was gonna be me.

(25:39):
Kyle Macy was my guy. I was gonna play for
my dad in Indiany. Yeah, I try. I should have
brought that. Oh yeah, I should have brought that up.
He would play for his dad at Peru High School
in Northern Indiana. I was gonna play for my dad.
I was gonna be mister basketball. Then he went to Purdue, Like, okay,
I'm gonna be I'm gonna go to Purdue, transferred to
Kentucky and I got jumped on board with you guys.
But that I tried to explain. It's hard hard to

(26:00):
explain Jack, the love and admiration the fan base had
for that seventy eighteen unless you lived it unless you
were part of it.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
Yeah, it had been a while since Kentucky had won
a championship. The fans we're hungry, to say the least,
for a championship. And I think another thing that helped
us is that we stayed for four years, so the
fans really got to know us, and I'm talking about
know everything about us. So it's a little different now.

(26:27):
But yeah, I think that all of that has to do.
But winning the championship makes you a little bit special
for the Kentucky fans and we're still enjoying that today.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
You know, that's seventy eighteen. Events like Saturday, you'll get
to relive a lot of that because the fans want
to come in and talk to you guys about every
moment of that season.

Speaker 6 (26:45):
It's gonna be a great time and just look forward
to the people getting out here. And it's been a
great week for me with the Celtics.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
One. He waited like five minutes, Kyle, a whole five minutes.
So you won. You won one title with the Celtics,
right eighty one eighty one, You won the championship. It's
been a long drought. They'd only won hadn't won one
since what eight eight, So this is but this is
banner number eighteen. That's amazing, it's great.

Speaker 6 (27:16):
Loves in fact, for me to stay up just lay.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
The last night was crazy, but it was a blowout
last night. You could have gone to bed early. You
knew they were going to win last night.

Speaker 7 (27:26):
And I will say, Ryan, I helped contribute to Rick
and the Celtics winning the championship the year they won it.
I was with the Hawks in Atlanta and they abused me,
he and Larry Bird. So I contributed to them winning
the championship.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Well, Kyle, you said then after Rick got traded to Phoenix,
you guys were teammates together out in Phoenix.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Yeah, we were.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
He came under trade with DJ went to Boston, and
he came out and played in the valley.

Speaker 8 (27:51):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
And I used the same story. The day you and
Michael Jordan combined for seventy points was a special moment
in your history.

Speaker 5 (27:57):
Yeah, you know, playoffs are big and so you kind
of get fired up and get ready to play and
going into the old Boston Garden first round action.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
With McHale and Bird and Parish.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
And you know the star teams the Celtics back then
and so yeah, Michael and I we we kind of
got got in the groove there and combined for seventy.
So he had sixty three and I had seven.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
That's a good number, man.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
I like but you know, Jack and I combine for
fifty in the championship game.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Oh that's true. For I had nine, we had nine.

Speaker 6 (28:27):
Well, there we go, we had sixty two.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
You know, Jack, you're so involved with the UK basketball
program now and being part of the broadcast team. What
are your thoughts about the Mark Pope eraic kind of
officially kicking off this past weekend. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (28:42):
I love what Mark has done, not just with the
team the players, but with the coaching stuff especially, got
some got some good guys, uh in those positions. But yeah,
he's he's I can't wait to get started. I didn't
get to practice yesterday. I'm hoping to go either late
or today or tomorrow so I get a look at them.

(29:02):
But it's gonna be a fun season. I'm very excited
about what he's done. And Mark's a great coach, I mean,
really really good coach. So it's going to be interesting.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
How about you, Rick, have you chanced to talk to
Mark not.

Speaker 6 (29:13):
Yet, but I will say he reached out to me
about five days ago by a text, said, here's my
cell number if you need it. You think come back
and see us get back involved. So I'm looking forward
to getting down there and beat me.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
Kyle Rick Center text back said, yeah, I could use
a size sixteen shit. I've texted back and forth with him.
But see, I was doing what Jack's doing now back
when Mark was playing. So I've known him for a
little bit of a little while and real good guy.
He's gonna do things right way. I'm excited for him.
I hope it has turns into a real good year,

(29:51):
and I think the fan base obviously is very excited
as well.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
You know, I forgot that you were on the broadcast
crew in that ninety sixth in that era when Pope
was playing. Right, That's that team is about as close
to the love and adoration as they had in seventy eight.
For you guys, was that ninety six team. I think
with the fan base, yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
I agree, And you know they could have easily won
three years in a row there. Yeah, hadn't had the
injury to Derek Anderson and nose. He had made a
few free throws in the Arizona game.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
Nowase he was Ozero for six from the free throw
out of the Arizona game.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
It's hard to do. It's hard to do for six.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
So, you know, since you're kind of in deep with it,
are fans expectations at this point kind of seem like
they they're not expecting him to win a national championship everything.
I think the expectations are kind of in check right now.
Do you agree with that?

Speaker 4 (30:36):
And I think that's that's where the fans need to
be uh huh.

Speaker 7 (30:39):
I mean, I know everybody's really excited about the possibilities,
and that's great, but I think people also understand that
it might take a little time, not as hard as
it used to. I mean, just think about it. Without
this transfer portal man having to put together an entire
new team, that would would be tough. But I think

(31:00):
Marcus gone out and he's picked the players he wanted,
players who can play experience. I tell people, if you
think about the teams Kentucky's lost to, whether you're talking
about NCAA tournament, whether you're talking SEC basketball, over the
last five years, if you look at the teams Kentucky
has lost to They are exactly the team that Marc

(31:24):
has put together for next year. Experience guys who have
been there, done that, who've been in every situation they
knocked on the door for championships, All defensive players in
their conferences, all the things that those teams had, who
who have beaten Kentucky the last few years. We have

(31:46):
that now, So that should lead to some wins for US.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Ricky like the way the rosters kind of put it together.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
It looks good to me. You know, it's gonna be
more fun to watch these older kids play.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, I think they.

Speaker 6 (32:00):
Become more like our team where they learned each other's
weaknesses and strengths. I'm looking forward to getting back involved
and watching them.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Can you imagine when you were coaching, you had a
whole new roster with this transfer portal every year, you
just got to revitalize your roster every year.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
I don't know how coaches do it nowadays, because not
only you're recruiting new players every year, but you also
have to recruit your own players and try to get
them to stay.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
It's crazy, but you know, the game's changed so much
from when we played, because if you look now at
the kid from Purdue, Zach Eatie.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Uh huh. Yes, if he'd have been.

Speaker 5 (32:35):
If the game had been like they played back in
the eighties, he'd been by far the number one pick,
no doubt. And now they're talking, you know, maybe fifteen
to twenty in the draft because it's turned. It's played
out more perimeter and the big men have to be
able to step out and play.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
On the floor. Yeah, we talked before.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
You know, if you had a big man, you were set. Yes,
had elijahwon Kareem, and if you had that seven footer
in the post, guards come down throw in the post.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Yeah, we talked about that with Oscar. You know, in
a different era, Oscar would have been a top ten pick, absolutely,
you know, but in the era we're in now, he's
trying to get out of.

Speaker 7 (33:07):
The G League's he's just trying to make it. But
it is a different game now. I mean, the bigs
want to be guards. They've always Rick always wanted to guard.
He always wanted to be. Now they allow Rick to
be a point guard. You know, that's just the way
the game is.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Coach Hall wouldn't let you step out and shoot the jumper.
What was the most you knew you were going to
be in trouble if you went how far.

Speaker 6 (33:33):
Outside the pre that was it? That left shoot that
right end.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
It is amazing how the game has changed, and it
is strictly it's a shooter's game. Now there are there
some shooters on this roster You think that you can
get excited about.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
Yeah, I don't. I don't hope there are, because that's
the game. You got to be able to put the
ball in the basket.

Speaker 7 (33:55):
And and and he does have some shooters, so he
does have some guys who can fill it up. So
it's it's gonna be a good blend of the thing
that I'm frankly most excited about this the improvement that
this team can make on the defensive end of the floor.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
Yes.

Speaker 7 (34:11):
I mean you have two or three guys who were
Conference Defensive Players.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
Of the Year. Yes, And.

Speaker 7 (34:19):
Guys who have that experience who know the difference between
guarding and really guarding and making it look like you're guarding,
you know. So I'm looking forward to what this team
might be able to do.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
Were you in college, Jackie, listen, listen.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
I learned from one of the best, Kevin Greevy, one
of the lessons I learned from Greeve was, hey, listen,
you have to learn to make it look like you're
playing defense in practice.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
And he because we guarded each other.

Speaker 7 (34:50):
He said, I'll make it look like I'm playing defense
and we can score anytime we got And James Lee
and I did the same thing. James and I would
guard each other. Man, and we still haven't depended each
other yet.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Is it is there? I may be totally wrong with it.
Is there some story where one of you guys had
to push somebody's car on them?

Speaker 5 (35:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (35:10):
That was man, That's that's that's what the isn't there?

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (35:14):
So I came down on my recruiting visit, man, and
there was a snow in lection, which was not kind
of unusual. And uh on rose that little hill that
goes up through campus. Yeah, his trino got stuck. Rick, Yeah,
get out.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
On business recruiting visit. You make him get out of
the car in the snow to push your car up
the hill just to get out of the snow.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
You know, I may have come here right out of
high school.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
If that, oh, that's before he went to Purdue, So
you probably steered him away the first time I knew
there was some sort of story of the wrong person,
somebody pushing somebody's car or something. So guys were a
j Mys eighteen forty five distillery. It's at twenty Riley
Road r E. I L L Y gets. Some folks

(36:06):
have already come in here checking out this new bourbon,
seventy eight Legends bourbon. You can get it here.

Speaker 7 (36:11):
Yes, and this I think the sample sampling of probably
five bourbons that they offer here at nddingly Jndingley.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Our bourbon will be a part of that.

Speaker 7 (36:27):
Be one of those that you will sample I see,
and like I say, be the only time you'll get
to sample right here any day. Yeah, you can sample
that fifty year old bourbon.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Saturday from nine to eleven is the tasting for you
your bourbon. I know people that are bourbon guys rick
they're excited about it. You know, the rare chance to
taste a fifty year old Bourbon's.

Speaker 6 (36:49):
It tastes good. I'm not a real big bourbon drinker,
but it is very smooth and from what the experts say,
it's one of them.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
And you guys will be out here to sign the bottle.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
We'll be Saturday whatever.

Speaker 7 (37:05):
Yeah, We have actually signed every bottle we made, nineteen
hundred and seventy eight bottles to begin with.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
That's cool.

Speaker 7 (37:13):
For nineteen seventy eight, we signed every one of them.
But we will be here to take pictures. If you
have other stuff you want to sign, we'll be happy
to die. If you want that bottle personalized, we'll be
happy to add your name and do it up the
way that you might want it done up.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
So we're looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
You guys are good guys to do that for the
fan base. They love it. They love that team. At
seventy eighteen, the bourbon lover is gonna love this bourbon bottle.
So thank you guys for doing this. Thanks for coming
on with us. We appreciate Jack Gibbons, Rick Roby, Kyle Macy.
They'll be out here Saturday morning from nine to eleven
at Jay Manningley's eighteen forty five distiller. Appreciate you guys,
Thank you very much. We'll take a break, we'll come back.
Here're gona take a sports radio.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Good see you be.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Welcome back. We were at Jay Maddingly's eighteen forty five distillery,
Kentucky Sports Radio Live on our KSR summer pop up tour,
we highlight local businesses joined it again now by Shannon
the Dude, Billy Religion and super Mario Maitland joins us. Guys.
I don't know about it, but that was like I
was like a kid in a candy store right there
between that that's those three guys, that's UK Royalty and

(38:21):
they are UK Royalty and they were all three here
together at the same time. Legends as we've talked about.
I mean, and you you know, growing up watching those guys,
I know that had to be exciting for you to
be able to sit there and listen to all the
old stories, maybe some behind the scenes stuff you hadn't
heard before. Well that's the thing. I think I would
like to have them on for like a whole show
and just talk stories, you know, not necessarily try to
promote something, but tell some behind the scenes stories about

(38:43):
playing with Coach Hall or things that maybe like I
knew there was some story about where one of them
had to push somebody else car I didn't know what
it was, but I didn't realize it was Kyle pushing
it in a up a hill. So that was stuck
in the snow.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
When Shannon takes one of his thousand vacation plays a year.
I've had Jack Gibbings on Sarah times on the pre Show,
and he's told one of my favorite stories from that
season when they're losing to Florida State at halftime in
the NCAA tournament game and Joby Hall comes in and
peels the paint off the walls and starts all the
backup guys. Yes, and so you know, they're full of stories,
and so I'm sure there were a couple of good

(39:15):
ones there today.

Speaker 8 (39:16):
They definitely have some stories, man, I mean even their
NBA careers. Yeah, about Michael Jordan and playing with Larry Bird.
It's just very very interesting to hear their stories and
see where they're coming from tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
You had Jack on your podcast too, didn't he came
and join your podcast?

Speaker 8 (39:30):
Yeah, it was a legendary. Getting to catch up with
him and see him again and hear his stories on
my podcast was a great platform, great episode. I enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
That they're gonna have a good crowd. We have people
already coming in here today to kind of check out
this bourbon, but Shannon, I think probably Saturday morning for
this tasting. Oh yeah, I mean you're kind of a
bourbon guy. Is that excites you know? You could taste
a fifty year old bourbon? Yeah with UK legends. Yeah
again here too. Absolutely, that's cool. And they got a
great variety too. I was kind of shopping around as
you were doing that interview, just looking and seeing the
different varieties that they have. I mean, it's what a

(40:00):
selection they have. Jay madding Leads is the name of
We're at twenty Riley Road in downtown Franklin, and the
renowned bourbon critic Jim Murray has proclaimed this bourbon this
is a quote billy as a thing of charm, character
and depth. This bourbon has now become a legend in
its own right. Okay, I'll have to try it. If
we could taste the depth in the bourbon or the charm.

(40:22):
You know, I'm a big vibes guy. This this place
is really cool.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
I like the lighting already and the selection. We already
went down in the cellar, So who knows where else
we can go?

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Oh I didn't know we could do that. Oh if
you got here earlier with the pre show. So the
pre show got the little VIP tree, we got, we
got the tour, we got to see where it all
goes down, or you get to customize your bottle and everything.
We'll take you later. Mary and I didn't get that,
did we. No, we didn't.

Speaker 8 (40:46):
We didn't come early enough.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
I guess. Yeah. You prioritize the trip to McDonald's overcoming
and getting the tour. So they dip the candle in
the wax like it's kind of famous for bourbon ball.
They do that down in the cellar downstairs. Also, that's
right that we have to see that. Well, we got
we got a break coming up here. We can go
down and check maybe check that out right now, we'll
go to the phone lines. We come back eight five
nine two eight h two two eighty seven if you

(41:08):
want to call and get on board. I'm glad Mario
wore his Boston Celtics shoes for us. He's really excited
about the Celtics win last night.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
That it's two different greens.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
I got it. Oh, okay, I couldn't tell ya.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
That's more like thin minutes girl scout.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
I thought I thought he was celebrating the Celtics eighteenth
title last night. You know what he was doing.

Speaker 4 (41:24):
Definitely not.

Speaker 8 (41:25):
I have some words for the Celtics. Oh.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Mario could not stop talking about the Celtics all the
way here. He loves them, He loves them, loves the
Boston Tent. Take our break, come back, come out and
see us. Jay Madden he is eighteen forty five distillery
in Frankfurt. Ryan, Shannon, Billy and Mario will be back
with our number two of Kentucky Sports Radio
