Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
This is not Matt Jones. This is Drew Franklin, the
third string quarterback of Kentucky Sports Radio, here hosting today's show.
While Matt is in Bailey, Colorado, and Ryan Lemon is
feeling a little under the weather, we hope to have
him back soon in their place. I have Adam Luckett
joining me. We're doing a full day of UK football talk.
We're gonna be joined by Dion Walker on the soon.
(00:28):
Shannon's still efforting that did you see you have him? Well,
then let's not wait any longer. Let's just go ahead
and get to all six feet six inches and three
hundred and fifty pounds of defensive tackle. Dion Walker is
joining us on the phone line. Dion, you're about to
enter your third season. You're a veteran. Now, how are
you feeling going into year three with kickoff just two
days away?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yes, sir, I can't wait for the first game, you know,
of just getting back out there one last or one
more time with my brother. You know, the feeling's not real.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Stu just mentioned earlier this week that with so many
new faces, you guys are having to just get used
to the regular game day routine. Even did a little
walkthrough on Saturday. I heard, is it all still feeling
the same for you? Are you showing these new guys
what all it takes to get ready for a game?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, of course. You know a lot of our guys.
You know, we got a lot of Casper guys and
a bunch of new freshmen that's going to play, so
you know, they got the physical aspect. I just you know,
been trying to show, especially with people in my room,
like the mental like, hey, it's going to be loud,
(01:36):
so you can't let the the loud.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
All right, Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio. I don't
know what the heck just happened, but our equipment turned red,
made some very loud noises on our ear and then
it disappeared. I hope that didn't go over the radio,
and it couldn't have happened at a worst time because
we had Deon Walker on the phone line. I appreciate
Dion holding through that. We're still dealing with tech technical difficulties,
but I will finish our conversation by phone. Uh Shanner
(02:06):
or am I in or do we have the Yeah, yeah, yeah,
all right, y'all, we're just gonna pick back up like
nothing happened. That that's a common uh thing that happens
here at KSR. But we're excited to keep talking to you.
Let's get back to the football talk and we'll worry
about our operation later.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Before the season began at start a camp, you guys
had several injuries along the defensive line, A lot of
your teammates, a lot of good players that had we
had high expectations for. But Brad White acted like everything's
all right. I mean, what does that say about your
depth of defensive line and the talent you got that
you guys have that you can withstand losing such good
teammates around you.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
You know, that just goes to our defensive lost coast
co Stewart. Stewart, he just he gets us so prepared
and so ready for each game. He was. He got
us prepared so much the spring ball for ball camp
like to where our tools are. Three can go in
(03:02):
and we can see no drop off, you know, like
we're the most experienced rooms. So we have like we
already have up but we have to find a way
to lead our entire defense.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Are there any young players in that group or anyone
that we haven't really seen on the field that you
think could be a player to watch or someone that
stood out in early camp that might be a name
not everyone recognizes.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Yeah, I say Kendrick Gilbert ninety nine or Jeri Smith
ninety five. He just got injured. He had an mcl injury.
His name was Tavion Gaslan. But he should be coming
back like mid season.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
We've heard from coach steps and sometimes you've been so
disruptive in fall camp that he has to take you
out of scrimmages and drills just so that the offense
can get something done. You've been too dominant that they
can't get their work in.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
It sounds like you're.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Bringing the right attitude to every practice and bringing that
Dion Walker football every day.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Is that right? Yes, sir, I'll be getting mad when
he take me out.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Is that just the competitive juice is kicking in as
you're going into year three, a big.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Season for you, Yes, sir. And it's just you know,
you need live like game reps, you know, And the
closest thing to that is like the scrimmages. So when
he takes me out, I'm like, come on, let me
get at least one more record plays come up?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Like you know, yeah, I completely know what happens to
me all the time when I'm out there and the
trenches too. Yesterday after practice, you heard from Brad White
and Rock Vandergriff at quarterback, and Brock said he's so
jacked up for Saturday's game that there's no chance he
will sleep at all Friday night.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Will Dion Walker get any sleep? Are you able to
get your hours in?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Are you the same way where your mind's too focus
on what's ahead?
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah? Yea, My mind is always too focused on what's ahead.
So I gotta do something to, you know, get away
from it, you know, like read a book or play
the game something, you know, just get out.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Of playing in the video game.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Uh, you're a pretty pretty big forced to reckon with
on their rated in ninety three. Do you just control
yourself all the time playing with UK or do you
try to do something different?
Speaker 3 (05:29):
No? I'm my player is he is kind of a
tea cut on there, but I play. I'm a linebacker
user man, so I us Eric d Jack or Pomp
just got into the game, so I'm gonna start using
him too.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Sounds like another activity you're interested in when you're not
playing football is basketball. You even hinted it trying out
for that that tryout spot, Mark, Mark Pope excuse me,
offered across campus.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
What is Dion's history with basketball?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
I do you really think you could hold your own
in there if you try it out for that last spot?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, I feel like you know, I play I've been
playing basketball since elementary school. You know, I'm sort of
like I'm a big man, of course, but you know,
I'm like the playmaker, the facilitator, you know. So you know,
you can give the ball to me top of the key,
hit a cut, I can hit you, or I can
(06:29):
make a play, pick and roll. You know, I can
do it a little bit of everything.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Are you the best basketball player on the team? Because
Max Harrison has said that about himself in the past.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Who's who? It's not you? Who would be the one
to take that spot?
Speaker 3 (06:43):
All around players, I don't know, because we got a
we got a lot of good shooters, you know, just
a bunch of athletic people that can just go dumb.
However they won't. But all around. I see zion shoulders.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
I love it looks like y'all get a little in
after practice. Got to go there at courtside or by
the field and practice. I'm gonna give you one more.
You're nice enough to wait through our technical difficulties. But uh,
every day you're going against this offensive line and you've
moving positions around. I'm sure you've seen it gone up
against a lot of those guys. Of all the offensive
linemen on the team, who's the meanest, maybe talking the
(07:25):
most or gives you the most trouble over there that
we should be watching out for when the season starts.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
I say talking the most. As always, it's either a
Jalen Farmer, you know he's funny when he talks, but
either Helm you know, Marcus Cox is good too. Like
I say, Marcus gives me the most like the most
competitive you know in that aspect.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
That's a veteran.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
All fans are lucky to have back the same. If
you we're looking forward to a third year of Dion Walker.
You're on all the preseason lists. We're expecting big things ahead,
and we thank you for joining us on our show today.
It was quite a mess, but thank you for holding
through that technical difficulty. It really was a pleasure talking
to you.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Good sir, Thank you, Good luck with everything.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Deon?
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yeah, all right, that.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Was Deon Walker. As I stand here talking on my
cell phone, which does not feel natural at all, there's
also an echo where I could barely hear what he's saying, Shannon, what.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Is going on?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (08:31):
You guys, tell me everything's walking back. Yeah, everything's walking
back here in the studio. But I guess we have
a new problem with the equipment, something you've never seen happen.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, it sounded like a big problem. So did that
go through the air?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Oh yeah, yeah, I heard that. At first I thought
that was Deon Walker's phone connection. Then I realized, oh,
that's you guys. So what happened if somebody spilled one
of those Kentucky and Il beers on the equipment or
what's happening?
Speaker 2 (08:59):
No, no body moved over here reminding her own business.
We weren't even near it, and the thing lit up
like a Christmas tree.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Adam and I both almost went deaf. Now I I
basically hear myself talking. Is it Is there a way
to shut off the echo? This is just absolute chaos.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
No, I don't think there is.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Okay, well, you took a break earlier, so we got
to keep rolling, right. Is luck It on another phone?
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:22):
I think he may be hearing yourself through Adam Luckt's phone.
I think that may be the problem right now. Okay,
So if you guys are, if you guys are right
next to each other, that's probably why.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
I'm going to go outside. This is ridiculous. Well did
you say there? I'm going to talk to you to
the what is happening. I just looked at Drew Shannon
and I was like, what is going on here? Fix this?
Fix this problem? And he looked at me with deer
in the headlights. So I was just like, you know,
what do I do with my hands?
Speaker 5 (09:49):
It's like the old like the old Nintendo thing.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
You gotta you know, just take out the cartridge, blow
in it a little bit, put it back in, you know,
control all delete. That's the type of thing you gotta
do some time to make that thing work.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
So if it was that easy, now, mister Drew Franklin
is out in the hot summer sun to bring you
Kentucky Sports Radio from ten to tendon Dune. Dude, don't
ever say this job is predictable, Drew, you would know
this for a matter of fact.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
We never know what we're gonna get hit with.
Speaker 6 (10:17):
And today you're just having to walk around like Shannon
did that one one that one morning.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I'm just walking through LEXI don and have the show.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
I'm now over by Sonics parking lot on my phone.
Mario is looking at me like I'm an idiot, because
I am an idiot, but the show's got to stay
on the air. I'm usually pretty well versed in troubleshooting
our equipment, Shannon.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I know what to fix, what to turn off, what's
power down? Power up? That looked like a new issue.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
I don't know if you played Xbox back in the day,
but there was this thing called the Ring of Death. Yeah,
and if that popped up on your Xbox, you just
had to throw it away because it was fried. I'm
worried the com Rex might have the Ring of Death.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Is this the new com Rex equipment or is this
the old stuff that tell together with shoestring and bubblegum.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Well, first of all, nothing in the company is new,
so we're not gonna call it new, but it's the
one we've been using for a long time, so I
would say it is an older bottle, not ideal.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Have you ever seen one just turn bright red like
a Christmas.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Which you know again, you always get something new that
pops up when it comes to our equipment. So at
least we got you guys on the air. That's the
main thing. If you guys want to take a phone call,
we can do that. I've got I've got a phone
caller for you right now.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
So well that's sure, I'm gonna silber GMC almost hit me.
I need to get back out of the road now
I'm in a median. Yeah, let's take a call.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
That sounds fun, all right, Let's go to Travis Hey.
Speaker 7 (11:41):
Travis Hey, Guys's Travis Freeman from Corbyn, Kentucky and I
am the guy who is the inspiration behind the movie
twenty three Blast, which was filmed here in corban I
just wanted to let everybody know that it is back
(12:03):
on Netflix and is in the top ten this week.
So movie about Corbyn is out there and would love
everybody's support to help push it up the charts.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Yeah, I remember you did you do?
Speaker 2 (12:19):
There was a premiere in Lexington that first came out
years ago and a lot of people watch the NBO.
Everyone should watch it out. Call us again the name
and where we can find it. Where you said, it's Tam.
Speaker 7 (12:29):
It's twenty three Blast and it's on Netflix, and it's
my story. I was a blind high school football player
and so just love to get get the word out.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
All right. We appreciate that, Colin.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
I'm sure a lot of our listeners will tune into
that as they get ready for football season. We're taking
in as much football content as we can. So everyone
check out twenty three Blasts on Netflix. It's a nice
local story. As Travis said, we appreciate you coming in.
Speaker 7 (12:59):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Hey, guys, I got a little update for tomorrow for
us and Travis. You're gonna to Travis, You're gonna have
to hang up the phone because I can't hang it up.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
I've got both of you.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
This is such a mess. Little update though, a little
update for tomorrow. We were promoting it on the pre show,
but I want to let you guys know that we
are moving the remote from tomorrow at Wild Eggs to
November first. All right, So no remote tomorrow at Wild Eggs.
We're moving that to November first. It may have something
to do with the fact that we don't have equipment
right now that's working, so that's.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Probably a good thing. And we'll have Ryan back, and
we'll have Matt back.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
We'll have the whole gang there on November first at
Wild Eggs, So that's been rescheduled. You guys were telling
me that there is a new SEC song that that
people were getting stirred up about online.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Is that right? Yes?
Speaker 2 (13:46):
I actually haven't heard of it yet, but during the
break before all Hell broke Loose Luck, it was telling
me that it's getting a lot of criticism.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
So okay, I know, I know that music can't maybe
make it to the podcast, but if you want to
play it here, we'll react to it real time. You know,
now made it to Broadway.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Hopefully the second hour won't make it to podcast. It's
been a train wreck. You're not missing anything if you
haven't on podcasts. But I've got it for you. If Drew,
you want to listen to it with me for the
first time.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
You haven't heard it, neither of I.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I've not heard it.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
Let's let's give us Let's give.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Everybody our real time take on what we think about
this song. Here we go all right, So, I mean
it's it's all right. I think I've heard that before.
That was used what on EBC years and years ago.
Speaker 6 (14:29):
I mean, it's that's the it's the old ABC jingle,
but they've added a bunch of stuff to it, Okay,
not just the original.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
It's like a it's a little too doctor. And I
think that's the problem here. If they would just play
the old ABC jingle, I think everybody would be cool
with it.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
And that's what the beginning sounded like the first ten seconds,
but after that it became something else.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
So I don't know what the mickey the guys at
Mickey Mouse were thinking that, Drew.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
You know, I'm big on nostalgia.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Like I love the fact that the NBA on NBC
is bringing back the old nineties jingle, Like, you know,
it makes me think of the Chicago Bulls from the nineties,
you know, the NBA on NBC theme that they're.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Bringing back this right here, though, I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Does this get you pumped up to watch a college
football game?
Speaker 5 (15:15):
I don't know if it's working for me, Drew, I
might have.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Needed some visuals, but just listening to it while standing
on the side of the road as cars go by.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
It didn't grab me.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
I hear some notes of the old music, like luck
it said. It's kind of like they just ran it
through a system and added a few more bells and whistles.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Kind of sounds like the generic.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Song that would be on a video game or something
where they're trying to get around using the actual music
for rights purposes. So yeah, I would add that it
could have been better.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
It really it sounds like they ran it through AI
like here AI, here's the original, dress it up a
little bit, put in a few more bells and whistles,
and that's kind of what we got here, it sounds like.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
So yeah, It's not lost on me though, that I'm
criticizing the sound of something as I'm hosting the most
popular radio show in.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
The state on the side of the road on my phone.
Here we are better. We wouldn't know any better what's
good and what's not? It means the perfect. Yeah, it's perfect.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
Isn't this how like most radio shows sound?
Speaker 4 (16:12):
Yeah? Of course, I'm.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Sure people are loving it, and my friends and family
are roasting me in an the group.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Text right now. But we're gonna get through it. How
much time do we have for the next break?
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Like another five minutes? You get another five minutes on
the phone, don't you No?
Speaker 4 (16:26):
That's all right?
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Yeah, no, I can I can do as long as
it sounds fine. This big brain. We could do hours
of business. We need to just check it all the time. So,
since I have luck and I want to ask him,
since I already asked Ian Walker this, but yesterday luck
at you went to practice and Rock Vandergriff said he's
not going to sleep at all Friday before game team
no sleep, He's channeling his enter. Deran Lamb doesn't need
(16:48):
sleep before game day?
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Is that? Do we like that? Is that encouraging? It
worked for Deran?
Speaker 3 (16:53):
But uh?
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Or should we be worrying that our quarterback is going
to pull an all night or before seven forty five games?
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Yeah? I think that. I think that's okay.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
I think you know, this is Brock vandergris first career starts,
first time he.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Started a game since high school.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
We already heard Mark Soups say earlier this week, I
am sure he's gonna be a little anxious and whatnot,
that he's really just chomping at the bit and really excited.
He might he said, I'm gonna be so excited, like
I might.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Get a little teary out before the game, just because.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
Like said, emotions maybe get the best of him, or
kind of sinuated that. I think eventually, Dre, you do
want him, Hey, man, just calm down. You gotta play
a football game. You got to execute for us. But
I think first game, it's fine. He dropped the I
love football the line a couple of times, and you
can tell, I think this hasn't been hard to tell,
but you can tell this means a lot to him
and that he's taking this very serious, his opportunity very serious. Again,
(17:42):
I think you want to see him calm down eventually
once the game starts.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
But I don't. I don't necessarily think that's.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
A bad thing, that the new leader of your offense
is really excited to get rolling.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah, I love that he said, I'm so jacked up
and I just love ball. Two great quotes you want
to hear. But maybe working at cornbreadhim tonight before we
don't want him the entire during the game. You also,
in that same conversation or right before that, talk to
Brad White, who I couldn't really make out if he
channeled some some reached Shepherd Rob Dillingham Comparison's been talking
(18:13):
about Kentucky's depth chart and how maybe starting doesn't matter,
doesn't matter, and came up when talking about all the
oars across the board. What did you make of White's
comments and just kind of explained what he was saying
yesterday about the depth.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Chart, mentioning earlier like the football staff has heard the noise.
They even heard the noise on that side, right, They
know that they've heard that the fans combines. I thought
that was an interesting quote for sure, kind of came
out of you know, it was kind of a Randy
orton TKO or RKO excuse me, out of nowhere. But
I think more of his point was like the depth charts,
(18:45):
don't pay too much attention to him.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
They don't mean a lot. These guys are gonna play.
Speaker 6 (18:50):
Just because the guy starts in week one doesn't mean
he's gonna be starting in week six, Like some competitions
aren't settled yet. There could it could be guys you
don't play up to expectations that need to be replaced,
or injuries could happen, and so don't put too much
doc into that they're gonna have they have some depth
at multiple positions that they're gonna use. So that was
really where it came from, and just wanted people to
(19:12):
know that starting the game does not matter.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
This is a team sport. They're gonna need a lot
of guys to contribute, and that's kind of where that
came from. But definitely was oh, we're doing the back
of the basketball thing again.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
I thought to hear the cross sports there in the
press conference, but interesting analogy there by Brad White, Uh,
Shannon and I went over to KS office just around
just to make it sound better. Yeah, walked out there.
My key, I have the original key. I was the
first person to get a key that no longer works.
So my morning is just getting better. So I'm gonna
keep standing out here. Can't even go on my own
(19:47):
damn office.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Today. This was fun.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
I'm also starting to get a little bit of anxiety.
I think I had an adrenaline rush there for a second.
But I'm quite embarrassed by the Dion Walker interview. The
fact that he had to sit through that, well, I mean,
that's the star of the football TA. We were so
excited to lock him down today. We've been promoting it
for two days. I couldn't wait to.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Talk to him. You know, hell broke loose, and I said,
Mark Coop didn't.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
Yeah you actually did? You've done that too on the show,
or if you didn't Ryan before?
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah, well, Matt and I said it to each other
one day and that was funny, but not to Dion Walker.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
And then I couldn't even hear what he was saying back.
Do you think we'll ever have Dean Walker on the
radio game?
Speaker 5 (20:29):
Highly unlikely.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
I think he probably thought, you know, what I've done
podcast with people who have about, you know, two subscribers.
That sounds more professional than what those guys just did.
But you know what, it's okay, Hey, it's almost time
for a break. It sounds like all hell is breaking
loose in the background, So I think right now it's
a good time to take a break.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Oh, I don't know, Let's just do this forever. But no,
you're right, we should take a break. I'm gonna come
back in and try to do some of the equipment.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
All right, good luck, all right, we'll be right back everybody.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ hey, he'll make
them pay now more.
Speaker 1 (21:02):

Speaker 5 (21:47):
This is the good life. All right, back to you, guys.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
I'm embarrassed.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
Why are you embarrassed?
Speaker 2 (21:52):
I can't believe I said Mark Poop and just fumbled
over words with Dean Walker. I was so excited to
talk for him. Why did it have to happen right there?
I will say, we're back, I'm inside. The ambulance has
been no longer chasing me. I'm no longer trying to
break into my own office. It's amazing what a hammer
will do to a good piece of technology.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
But at least for right now. Do we sound okay? Everything?
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Okay? Lot?
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I think I think it only happened for deon Walker,
which is kind of infuriating. I apologize if it sounded
like I was having a bit of a meltdown.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
That was That was chaos. That was absolute chaos.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
You need one of those country lights right now, not
one of those bad boys open.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
I'm gonna open one right now. Why why not?
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Why don't we go to the phone line, Shannon, you
said there are people there waiting. They either have a
question for Lucket or they want to make fun of me.
Either one of those are fine.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
All right, let's go to Dalton, Dalton.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
I hope your phone works. How's it going?
Speaker 8 (22:44):
I think it works all today.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
We've been better. But we're glad to talk to you.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
I mean, of course, it happens with on Walker. I
mean from Commodorees to comradeses. He's disrupting, disrupting production all
over the region.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
There we go, There we go.
Speaker 8 (23:00):
Uh, it's funny he called in. I had to take
I just step away from the radio. I had a
question about him for you and Luckett, h and bring
a little light to a disastrous situation.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (23:10):
Let's say you're on the football field and Josh Allen
and Dean Walker are bearing down on you about to
take the out. The only way to stop that hit
is you've got to take your picture with throwing both els.
Do you take that picture or do you take that hit.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
You're saying, we have to take a picture of throwing
l's up double barrel or take a hit by Dion Walker.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
Josh Allen correct, And you got to make that decision
while they're running at you.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
That's a great question. We appreciate the call that scenario, Luckett.
I think I'm just saying take me Jesus, and this
is gonna hurt. But I'm I'm not putting my l's up.
So I'm just gonna see where I land after that hit.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
In the words of Mike Gundy, I'm a man, come,
come bring it. See if you can bring me down.
Dean Walker and Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Well, if you had to pick between the two, they're
running at you. No, Deon's got to wait advantage, and
he's probably mad that we just put him through that
on the internet on the radio.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
Walkers, excuse me. Allen's coming from the outside, so you
can maybe shield yourself a little better. There's a chance
you can get to pick up and fall and pile
drive with Dean Walker.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I would like to avoid that.
Speaker 6 (24:13):
So I'm gonna take the one with less mass in
this situation and maybe be able to embrace it a
little bit better with Alan coming from there, so I
would pick that one.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
Neither one is very good. No, I would prefer neither,
but I'm never gonna do the l's up. I would
also do the Tom Brady fall down, you know, just
eat the sack.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
I'm picking Josh Allen, not by not because I want to,
but you know, as you said, Dion's got a little
more mass. Josh Allen's a Jaguar and I'm a Titan,
so I have that advantage on him. It might even
Whiff who knows, might have some blocking come out of nowhere.
But that was a fun question. Who's up next?
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Shannon, let's go to starts. Starts. Thanks for calling in. Hey, guys,
I called it on Monday.
Speaker 9 (24:51):
I gave you a ten to eleven prediction, highlighting with
a win over Georgia.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
You guys gave me crickets.
Speaker 9 (24:59):
So today I heard the call this morning, the first
first caller prop to him and you say, you want passion.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
You ready for some passion.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
I want all the passion you had, Dude. I had
to keep it in when you guys gave me crickets.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
On that. So here it comes.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Let that butterfly fly.
Speaker 9 (25:16):
Here comes baby Adam, the first biblical name.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Brother. You got to have faith.
Speaker 9 (25:23):
Faith is assurance the things hoped for with conviction of
things not seeing.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Brother, I got faith, man.
Speaker 9 (25:29):
We got a five star quarterback, We got deep running backs.
We got the best defense ever stooped his hand. Let
me tell you, Stut has carried us our teams in
the past with our defense.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
This one's better.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
We got a sixty yard punter.
Speaker 9 (25:41):
We got a six yard fieldal kicker and the six
yard hunters he and Reid Shupper did right now.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
But I don't care. We got him.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Let me tell you this.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Let me tell you a story of faith.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
This is an alum that went to the swamp.
Speaker 9 (25:53):
On September eighth, twenty eighteen. I sat in the student
section with my dater children and we watched that game.
They took me for my birthday.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
They make me happy when let them laugh at the.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Gators beating me.
Speaker 9 (26:06):
They've never lost in their lifetime.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
But brother, I had faith.
Speaker 9 (26:10):
I went to the game where the customized put football
shirt UK Football said we no more, my lady. I
got in there and I asked the young men around me, hey,
you guys know who Beny Schnell was.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
They laughed at me.
Speaker 9 (26:23):
They laughed at me, and now I pointed to them,
they go, don't guy, They laughed at me. Twenty seven
to sixteen later snaill. Oh yeah, so wake up, BBN.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
This is we are near the end, brothers of sec mediocrity.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
It is here, so believe.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
That's kind of juice we need. That's our third call
of the day. We appreciate you hearing from you again
this week, Lucky. Do you like the passion there picking
ten to two, maybe eleven and one.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
I love the energy, love the passion, love the vibes.
I think the vibes are really good, right, now, and
let's continue that into the season and then week two.
That's the way to really get the vibes kicked off.
You gotta handle your business week two, Drew and kind
of a working hot take I have. If Kentucky handles
their business and looks good week two, and let's say
(27:13):
Georgia handles their business Week one against Clemson, I think
there's more than a puncher's chance you could get college
game day in Lexington for that night game. ABC Kirk
Kirk Street will be on the call for that game.
Think you look the slate that week. The big game
is Alabama Wisconsin, but that's a Fox game. ESPN's not
gonna want to do a lot of game days at
(27:34):
a Fox local, so maybe they're gonna have more opportunities,
probably for Bama later in the year. I think Georgia
at Kentucky, I definitely think that's a sneaky underdog to
get college game day in week three. Now Kentucky has
to handle their business, but do not be surprised if
that happens. I think the where they put that game
is a sign that that's a contender. To me, like
you're putting it right there, that's a chance for they
(27:56):
can go to lexing and they haven't been a lexing
a long time.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Go there.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
You get Georgia early in the year, you get Georgia
at Kentucky. I definitely think that's a sneaky contender for
College game Day early in the season.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
You mentioned Georgia Clemson, one of the biggest games of
the of the weekend coming up. Spreads thirteen and a half.
I was up early this morning because DraftKings. We got
a little parlay they've added up on the site. We're
on there now, the KSR parlay.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Go check it out.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
But I was back and forth on that game Georgia
and Clemson. I was leaning Clemson, ended up leaving it out.
Do you have any strong thoughts about Georgia Clemson, then
I'll let you know what I settled on.
Speaker 6 (28:27):
Looking it up right now? Do we know the total
in that game? What's it about? Forty six, forty seven?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
A lot of people calling for the under, but uh,
Matt doesn't like totals. He's an anti total guy, so
we stick with it.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Spread.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I have forty eight and a
half right now.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Yeah, I'm I'm a fan of totals too.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
It kind of scares me with Carson Beck because of
the quarterback that they can sling it a little bit
drew me. And you had a fun year a few
years ago just becking Kirby Smart Unders consistently, so I
would kind of lean under there. I'm my early angle
this season is take advantage of the clock rules. I
think we're gonna see game play out like Georgia Tech
Florida State limited possessions, so take advantage of these clock rolls.
(29:04):
I think unders could be a sneaky value play early
in the year, so that's more of my angle on it.
I would probably lay the points here with Georgia just
because they got the star quarterback. The offense should be
ready to roll because of Carson Beck, and then the
defense is always pretty good Clemson. If they can't run
the ball, it's k club Nick versus at Georgia defense
(29:25):
in a matchup like this two years ago, they had
bon Nicks running for his life in twenty twenty two
in Atlanta. I could see that kind of playing out
like this or I don't think it'll be a total
Georgia steamroll, but I definitely could see the Bulldogs win it.
It feels like a twenty seven to ten type of
game to me.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Well, Shannon, let's go over at parlay. I did not
reach out for you all on this one. Now, I
was working on it at like six am. Didn't figure
you wanted a six am text wondering what you thought
about Georgia Clemson.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
I would have been awake. But that's okay, go ahead yet.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Well, they usually want to, you know, good parlay in
the plus three hundred to plus four hundred range. It's
four to one, three to one. But I said, nay,
we're doing plus one thousand. We're going we want a
lot of money this week. So I did four games
against the spread, starting with Texas A and M. They're
hosting Notre Dame. I think home field advantage will take
over there. Texas A and M is a three point favorite.
(30:11):
Am I crazy?
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Luck? At my crazy? Shannon? Do we am iri with
the Aggies?
Speaker 6 (30:15):
Believe A and M's unranked Notre Dame's ranked principal unranked
team is usually laying points for a reason in these
ranked unranked matchups if you get them.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
So I like that there.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
I like A and M on on that that side.
If I was gonna pick the side there, I think
I like the Aggies. I think it matches up well.
Notre Dame's got some offensive line issues. A and M's
got studs on the defensive line. I think the Aggie's
got a really good chance to win that game.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
I'm good with that pick somewhere one for one.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
What else do you have, Drew all Right? This one,
it was the first one that came to mind.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
I'm not gonna say I second guess it now, because
you don't second guess your bets. You might they're automatic losers.
You got to have one hundred percent confidence. But I'm
trusting the Florida Gators playing Miami team with high expectations
in their conference, but their conference isn't real football. Florida
is getting a field goal in the swamp.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
Am.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
I crazy for taking Florida as an underdog at home
in a year everyone thinks they're gonna steik.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
This is the Week one Anxiety Bowl. We're getting a
meltdown from a fan base one way or the other.
I'm out of that game. It's gonna be eight hundred
degrees in the swamp. I think two good quarterbacks here
to experienced quarterbacks with Graham Merch cam Ward I'm battling out.
This is a total fifty to fifty game for me,
So I'll take the home team getting points in this situation.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah, I think it was even two and a half,
about a half point, just to be safe. The way
I saw it is if Florida if we don't win,
that Miami kills them. Oh well, the Florida Gators got
killed at home. I enjoyed doing that too. You all
right with that, Shannon?
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah, I mean I'm not quite as confident on this
pick as I was the first pick, but you know what, Hey,
it's opening week. We already saw Florida State get knocked
off by Georgia Tech. So yeah, I guess I'm going
to try to be okay with it. I guess it's
too late at this point. Anyway, You've got it, so
it doesn't really matter if I'm okay with it or not.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
But yeah, we'll go with it. All right, what's next?
Speaker 2 (31:57):
You'll be okay with one of the other ones. Next,
you're gonna trust you fighting Neil Browns of West Virginia.
I don't think love it, luck it loves this one.
They're hosting Penn State. Spread was like ten and a
half but a lot of the money's on West Virginia.
It's down to eight, but I still took it as
West Virginia as an eight point underdog on their home
field in Morgantown. I'm not gonna ask Lucky because he's
(32:18):
gonna put some bad juju on it.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
So you took West Virginia on this one, Yeah, eight
point underdog.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
I mean they can still lose by touchdown here nord
of the thing.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I am still scarred about picking against Penn State when
I took you Mass last year, who I believe for
a one hundred and twenty point dog, and I said,
you know what, they won't get beat by that mudge.
Let's go you Mass and Pen beat them by about
five hundred points. So yeah, again, I don't know if
I would have picked this one, but all right, you
got West Virginia.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
I'll roll with it. It doesn't sound like we have
a lot of faith, but we're locked in. Yeah you can,
you can.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yeah, there's a it's a four legger. I'm saving the
fourth one. You know, if you go to DraftKings Sports
Book used promo code KSR for your new customer. If
you're already on there, it's we're up there with the parlays.
You can see Shannon's pretty little face next to me,
Matt and Ryan with the KSR parlay where our fourth leg.
Everybody's picking West Virginia. They're playing the Vanderbilt Commodoores. But
we don't bet against Vandy on this show. Shannon is
(33:13):
a Commodore. So I have Vanderbilt getting fourteen points at home. Fourteen, Shannon,
surely they can stay with it two touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Well, you know, it's not really ever a home filled
advantage for Vanderbilt because every other team comes in and
takes over their stadium and I don't know, do they
still have that big crane they do the end zone.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Yeah, it's a big part of my pick. It's construction.
It's not done yet.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
It's a big distraction for visiting t.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Hears saying home field advantage because the locker room is
basically a makeshift tent. I mean there are people tailgating
outside who have a better tent than the teams do
in Vanderbilt Stadium. So you know what, maybe you're onto something.
At least I appreciate the pick. I'm gonna say, let's
go doors.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I also bet the Vandy season win total is my
lock of the of the season on fade this their
win total is three even so if they just win
their three crappy games, we're at least getting our money back.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
We just need to win one other game. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (34:05):
And but these two Vandy teams, like I mentioned earlier,
pace of play, it's going to be real. Vanny and
Virginia Tech both want to run the football, both want
to be run heavy, both have quarterbacks that they're going
to involve in the run game, and both the defense
is probably the stronger point of their team. So I
can see this game being kind of a limited possession
game to clock milk fast and that I think that
works out well when you're playing a fourteen point underdog.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
It sounds like luck It likes that one.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
So if you want to join us, I'm in there
about ten to one on the first KSR parlay of
the college football season on DraftKings Sports Book. When we
come back, we'll take the last of the phone calls
and finish up this football show with Adam Luckett.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
This is KSR.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Welcome back to the final segment of Kentucky Sports Radio.
This segment is brought to us by the Kentucky State
Chamber You Know. A new report from the Kentucky Chamber
highlights the massive economic impact of housing in Kentucky, contributing
billions to the state's economy. The housing industry not only
drives economic growth, but also supports over one hundred and
five thousand jobs statewide home building and remodeling, and rate
significant tax revenue for Kentucky with over one point five
(35:02):
billion in federal, state and local taxes. Affordable housing remains
a critical issue. The report emphasizes the need for policies
that support homebuilders and creating affordable housing options. The report
bills that every new homebuilt in Kentucky generates an average
of three full time jobs, boosting local economies. The Chamber
wants to hear from you about your housing perspective. Visit
Kentucky Chamber dot com slash housing to tell us about
(35:24):
the biggest housing issue in your community. The biggest issue
in my community is this radio show and Shannon oh no,
now two of them. I was going to say, one
of the big bosses is here. A second big boss
just walked out. We have we have iHeart higher ups
on the scene. I feel like I'm in trouble.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
You might be, or maybe the equipment's in trouble. Maybe
they're going to take that and throw it into the dumpster.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
It is appropriate that it's working just fine, as they're
both here. Good to see Gus and Nathan here to
help out. We appreciate that. But so far, so good,
and while it's working, let's go ahead get to these
callers who want to talk town.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
I'm lucky. Who's up next? Luther? Thanks for calling in.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
Thank you, guys. I'm excited about this season. My biggest
question I have about this team is what about the
offensive coordinator? I think that much to your.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
Comments, Yeah, what about bush Hamdon?
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Adam, look Att, Yeah, I'm excited about what bush Hamdon
can bring. This is a guy who's had been part
of a couple of top twenty five offenses of a
play caller. When he took over play calling at Missouri
and twenty twenty two, they kind of took off and
really ran the quarterback and had their best performances of
the season. To me, if you were gonna compare Hamden
to one offensive coordinating in the Stoops era, to me,
(36:33):
it's kind of I would compare him to Neil Brown.
How kind of he's been this riser throughout the ranks.
He is going to be a college football head coach,
There's no doubt about it. He's probably two or three
years away from that. So I think you're gonna get
two or three year good years out of him, and
he's probably gonna go be a head coach somewhere.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
But I'm excited about what he can bring in.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
I think the reason Mark Stoops liked him, he's had
a thousand yard rusher every year he's been a play caller.
He's really been able to run the football. And then
Missouri he showed some some adaptability to have a when
you have a running quarterback, to be able to take
advantage of that. Then you saw it more at Boise State,
and I think it's gonna be a part of the
package here at Kentucky with Brock vandergriff.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
So I'm excited about what he can bring.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
I think he has definitely has a high floor as
a play caller, and I think there's gonna be good things.
There's gonna be good moments for this offense, and I
think most everyone's gonna be pleased with him after once
we get to Thanksgiving weekend. I think most people are
gonna be pleased about Hamden's first year.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
Let's keep going with the next one. Who's next? Shading Terry, Terry,
you got a question for Adam?
Speaker 10 (37:33):
Yes, sir, you know I'm probably in the minority here.
I'm not the biggest Brad White fan, and that's because
I don't like the dink and dunk let teams getting
fifteen play eight minute drives like we had at Mississippi
State last year. Do you see anything with the personnel
that he has this year that's gonna make that different?
(37:54):
Are we in for the same where these mediocre teams
are gonna get to drive the ball down the field?
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Honest?
Speaker 10 (38:00):
And do you think what's more a halftime score?
Speaker 3 (38:05):
Sarhy?
Speaker 10 (38:05):
Is it more fourteen to ten Southern miss or thirty
five seven Kentucky?
Speaker 6 (38:09):
And eyeing up and listen, Yeah, I think with there's
still gonna be a ben but don't break philosophy. And
I think i Brad White left tomorrow, that would still
be kind of Kentucky's mo. I think there's definitely gonna
be something to that. They're gonna want to make teams
earn scores and their biggest goal is going to be
eliminated exposed to plays. Now, I think to prevent these
(38:31):
fifteen sixteen plays drives you're talking about, it's third down.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
You got to get better at third down.
Speaker 6 (38:35):
That's where Kentucky has to get better this season, and
that's where I think you'll see more of the aggressiveness
come about. I think they've shown in the past that
they're willing to isolate and go one on one. They
did that a lot, I think with Carrington Valentine two
years ago, and that's part of the reason that defense
was so good is because they had a guy who
won his fair share of battles one on one in
key situational spots. So I think they'll see that kind
(38:57):
of play out this year. I think they'll see them
a little more aggressive because of what they have in
Maxwell Hairston. But again, I do think there's still gonna
be what they are. You know, they're still gonna play
zone a lot. They're still gonna been but don't break.
But I think in situational areas will be more aggressive.
And then to me that going into this game, and
you know, you see the spread, it's twenty eight points.
It's a lot of points if you cover a spread
(39:20):
like that. You gotta score touchdowns, right, you gotta score.
I don't know if we're gonna see the offense come
out and drop a fifty burger. That's hard for me
to forecast with all the new parts, so I don't
I don't think that thirty five to seven would be
a likely halftime score.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
All right, thank you all for calling in with questions
for Adam, It's been a fun show. With apologies to
Mark Pope for what I called him, Dean Walker for
whatever the hell that interview was. I think otherwise we
got a great show.
Speaker 5 (39:44):
Shannon, Yeah, it was great.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Let's let's quickly talk about Stockton Mortgage Stockton dot Com
go there right now if you're buying a new home,
looking for a loan, competitive low rates, faster closing times,
loan officers in your neighborhood, and of course they're growing.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
Stockton dot Com drew.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
Beautiful, beautiful show.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
A few difficulties, we'll get those worked out, but we
had a lot of fun talking football. Tomorrow, I'm not
sure if we'll have Ryan back, but Shannon and I
will definitely be back and we'll figure it out from there.
We're looking forward to talking to you then. This has
been KSR and it's almost football time in the Bluegrass.
