Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
What a back our number two Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
absolutely beautiful day here in Lexington.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good hoodie shorts weather, It's Monday.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Come on out to KOs bargirl if you like Monday
Night Football, Tonight Jets and forty nine Ers. I think
it was last year on Monday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers
got hurt four seconds into the game. I hope that
doesn't happen again. But uh, let's talk just a second
before we get back to UK. The KSR Survivor League
basically got cut in half, so.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
That's gonna make it easier for me.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Half the essentially twenty one people picked the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Including me, including.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Shannon out takes a lot Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yeah, thank you, Shannon.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
And you told me they were going to be good
this year too.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
They were first, So don't put this on me. You
are a grown me. Any team you won. If you
picked the Bengals, just as I.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
A is a you can't pick them. They're gonna be
too good this year.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Now they're not.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
They lose home to maybe the worst team in the league,
New England, so they're out.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
That knock twenty one people.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Wow twenty one and.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Then uh uh the Falcons loss, which knocked Max out.
And then the Titans loss, which not Dicky lions out.
I thought the tick the Titan, but why, I don't
understand why, Dicky line. So we got twenty uh seven
of the fifty left. Some shout shout out to some
(01:31):
bold picks. Cash Flow and Richie Farmer had the Bears.
I thought that was kind of a bold picking Week one, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
They got it. Peter Burn, well, a bunch of people
had the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Shout made the best pick.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Willie cally Stein coming out and picking the Steelers on
the road at the Falcons, Like that's a that's a
gutsy picky.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Some people that were trying to take to get out
of this situation backfired, like.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Oh no, now you gotta pick? Is that what you think? Will?
It was like, I don't want to do that, man,
I don't want to do.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
This every week. Me pick a team that's gonna lose
for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Then of course Cash Daniel had the Texan.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
So so twenty seven people move on, but twenty three
people myself and Shannon are out still Drew, Ryan, Billy,
and Mario remain Mario had the Chargers. The only guy
who had the Chargers he remains in as well.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
So you said, this week's got some tough games, though.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
This one, I don't know exactly who you would pick.
I mean there are, uh, you know, the Chiefs play
the Bengals if you believe the Bengals are going to
be terrible, But there aren't a lot. It's hard to
know who's there's not a consensus pick. Although I thought
the Bengals were the consensus pick. It looked like the
Bills were gonna lose two and we were gonna have
like ten people left in the league. So thankfully that
(02:44):
the Bengals were the biggest favorite eight points I saw.
They wrecked pretty much every survival league in the country
because most survivor leagues had half of their people pick
at the Bengals yester day. Yeah, so I mean, here
would be your choices. I think you got the Ravens
play the Raiders, so you could pick the Ravens if
you wanted.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
See a lot of I already have money. I won't
give it to you in case there's injuries.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
A lot of the bad teams play each other each other.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yeah, the Giants, what maybe Eagles Falcons is one.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
You could do Packers, Colts, but you got Malik Willis starting.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
I'm taking the Lions against the Bucks. Bucks will cool
off a lot. You're taking lines against them. Not my
official pick in case there's any injuries or updates before
the weekend.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
But the two biggest spreads are Cowboys six and a
half on the Saint No, the biggest spread is Ravens Raiders.
So if you're gonna do the one with the spreads,
you would take the Ravens against the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Who did the Cowboys play?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Cowboys play the Saints?
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Saints Let's scored a lot of points this weekend.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
So anyway, we'll see when we get closer. But twenty
three of us already out, including me. Now I might
have to keep track of this all year. Shit, I'm
not even in it. I know right how quickly.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Now had it out. I'm gonna do it like you
do it.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Well, I'm the only one that context all these people,
I'm the only one with their phone them. That's true,
So I like I have to I'm gonna have to
uh to do it. The only person that seemed to
play then then Kentucky was Will Levis.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yesterday. That was bad.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Now thankfully it was against my Bears, but we won
twenty four to seventeen. Didn't score an offensive touchdown.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
That's unusual.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
The Levis pick six was like awful, brutal. That was
a brutal pick.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
He actually did that move earlier in the game and
it didn't get picked off. But when he did it,
I was like, why are you trying to throw it
out of bounds? Side arm like that, just go down.
And then fourth quarter he costing the game. Titans were
up by one.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
They had it in hand.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
I mean, Caleb Williams wasn't moving the ball and on
a third down just throws it straight to the dB
trying to get it out of bounds as he's been
pulled down.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
So I was excited Bears are back. I was playing
the eight of the Super Bowl Shuffle. I wasn't there
to feathers ruffle. We're just gonna be here to do
the Super Bowl Shuffle.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
I did think Caleb Williams was celebrating way too hard.
I'm not a sore loser. I actually thought the Bears would.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
First game, the number one overall quarterback, the number one
pick in the draft, his first start since two thousand
and three. He was They were oh and fifteen, so
he broke that streak. That's a pretty good streak to
break fifteen. And he goes and wins for the be
the first one ninety three yards.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Who won? Oh, you're just mad? It was your tead.
My team beat your team, and Shandon he won't take it. Man,
your team was gonna win, beat your day.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
After the Kentucky game, Ninety three yards sounds like a
lot of passing yards.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
You could ca that to.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Thirty that's a lot.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
That's three times as many passing yards as Brockmander griss.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I'm not mad at all.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Will was very disappointed. That wasn't just that interception he
had Calvin Ridley on one play broke free. Will throws
it out of bounds. He overthrew another open receiver. It
was a bad, bad Levis day.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
So it's nice that I I mean, I was watching
all the Super Bowl shuffle eighty five stuff. Uh, my
name is Fridge. I'm a rookie.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I may be large, but I'm no dumb cookie.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Great lyrics song, what is it the best?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
You've seen me?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Uh uh, you've seen me tackle, You've seen me run,
you've seen me something when we kick and pick or
what I'm gonna get this? Okay, He's like, you see
me tackle, you've seen me run. When I kick can pass,
we'll have more fun.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
It's target explained how popular that was every It was
everywhere during nineteen eighty five.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
I could, I could do all the bursts. I'm not
going to, but if I needed to, I could.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
My biggest hot take from NFL Sunday maybe worse than
Levis tom Brady.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Tom brady whole game. And I'm not say he was
gonna be terrible. I knew he was gonna be terrible.
He I watched every snap. When are we.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Gonna learn that people just because someone's good at one
thing and handsome doesn't mean they're good at everything.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yeah, you think he had to go through and call
any like you know, mock games before to get that
job out there.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
There were like that. Sometimes there were like twenty seconds
of silence. He wouldn't speak. That was the thing.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
It's like he didn't know when it was his turn.
And you're like this is normally when the analysts would
be saying so.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
He would it would just be silent.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
He was awful and I knew he was gonna be awful,
and Greg Olsen is good.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
They got rid of the guy that was good to
put in a guy with.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
No personality, like it doesn't matter that he's Tom Brady
if he doesn't speak.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
He found something that Tom Brady is not good at yet.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yes, and because you know, I didn't like the commed
the roast, because he was good at that.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I wanted him to be bad at him.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
He was good at well this, He's not good at
Brian at least from what I contemp man.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
He got roasted too. I mean it was all over
social media. He was getting roast because he wasn't good. No,
not good at all.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Go one more week. That was his first one.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
But if he just doesn't talk again, I really think
they should give Greg Olsen his job back.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
They should.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
He just wasn't saying anything, and when he said something,
it wasn't even know you want Tom Brady to break
it down, really get into the mud.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
He didn't really offer much. So one more thing.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
So while we're why I'm doing the pregame show or
the ESPN show before the one o'clock games. A lot
of news broke while we were on Dak Prescott re
signs Jamar Chase.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
There was something else.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Oh, they named Justin Fields starter and then Tyreek Hill
gets arrested, so that video breaks.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
While we're on on the shop.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
While we're on the air, and I'm having to figure
out like I'm seeing it for the first time and
trying to not say something wrong but also tell people
what's going on.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
And then they break into the show and.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
They go, uugh, we have sound of Tyreek Hill's agent,
Drew Rosenhouse. He has a statement and I haven't heard
the statement yet, Shannon, Right, So they're just playing in
what they call raw on the air, right, So they
play the statement and it starts with, first of all,
I've always thought Drew Rosenhouse, that's you know who he is.
He's like the famous I've always thought he was like
(08:34):
the sleaziest dud.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
That's who Jerry maguire was based on. Oh it was, Yes,
I've always thought he was like the sleaziest dude.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
And he gets up there and he goes, first of all,
I just want everybody to initially know Tyreek Hill is fine,
and he like says all this stuff, and then you
know it was a decent statement. And then he ends
it with did you hear the end of his statement?
And it was so ridiculous I laughed out loud. I
couldn't and I spent the rest of the time making
fun of it. He goes, you know, Tyreek and I
(09:02):
oftentimes have talked about how much respect he has for
law enforcement. He said, as a matter of fact, as
he was being arrested, he told the police officer he
wanted to be a policeman when he retires. And when
he said that, Shannon I was like, no, he didn't,
that did not happen.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
You are never gonna convince me that.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
While Tyreek Hill was being taken down to the ground
by the police, he goes, Sir, I want to be
a policeman when I grow.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Up, fast, down on the side, face down on.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
The ground where they've stopped him outside of the stadium.
That's the moment he wants to talk about how he
wants to be a policeman. I'm like, don't lie to me,
Drew Rosenhouse, that is a lie. I also don't believe
that you and he were just sitting around and he
was like, you know what, Drew, I have a lot
of respect for law enforcement. He never said that to you,
ansell I end up saying that on ESPN, and then
(09:54):
Myron goes is he wants to think. Tyreek's in third
grade saying I want to be a policeman when.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
I grow up.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
It was ridiculous, and like that became all we talked
about because it was such a stupid thing. There's no
way Drew, when he was on the ground, he was
talking about how he wants to be a policeman.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
I couldn't believe he wants to be a policeman, even
if he thought it. He has one hundred and twenty
million dollar contract. He's done playing football. I hope he
wants to do nothing.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Yeah, what's he gonna go to police school? When it's
overstop it light.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Drew Rosenhaus and Tyree Hill sitting over the contracts Okay,
you give me this that I need to have this
big year, but also let's back the blue. Let's make
sure we're both on the same page.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Shinning. That did not happen. Did not happen. Why did
he have to lie?
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Do not believe it, even like it, Drew said, even
in that moment, you're not gonna say that. I mean,
if you thought about maybe being a police officer after that,
I think that would change your mind as you're getting arrested.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, Normally on ESPN when there's breaking news, they don't
like you to just give your raw, unadulterated take.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
But I couldn't help it. I just can't.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
They played it again. I was like, that didn't happen.
He's got to stop saying that that did not happen.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
I did like his touchdown celebration though, where he faked
like he was getting arrested.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I didn't see it.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
A touchdown, puts his arms behind his back, another player
comes up, throws the cuffs on him.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Now that it's good.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Jeff Darlington been on the Scheffler beat and the Tyreek
Hill beat.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
He's when I went to ESPN, he's the one that.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Let me be clear, I'm gonna say the same thing
about Tyreek Hill I said about Scheffler.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
I was very quick at Scheffler to go. We don't
really know what happened.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
We don't know what their interaction was, so I'm gonna
you know later it came out the cop overreacted. My
initial inclination is that the same thing happened here, But
I don't know. I wasn't there. But I will say
this if I'm a cop, I feel like I could
say this confidently. If I am outside of the Dolphins
stadium and it is three hours before the game and
(11:44):
I see a Lamborghini Shannon driving, I'm probably gonna think
there's a chance it's a player.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Right, There's a chance.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
There's a good chance it's a player, And maybe I
take a step back and go whatever traffic violation he committed,
maybe I just let this one.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Roll unless it was really bad.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
But what could it have been there? It was a
parking lot, could he run over a cone?
Speaker 3 (12:15):
What could it possibly have been that would have been
worth pulling him over?
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Reckless driving is what they said, right, So pull him
over and pulling him out of his car and putt him.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Face down on the ground by the way while he's
going I want to be a cop.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Getting arrested. I always wanted to do that.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
They just wanted also handcuffed one of his teammates who
drove by and got out to see what was going on.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
This is gonna end up being the exact same as
the Scheffler thing. There's gonna be one dude, they already
put somebody on leaf. Yeah, they've already put somebody on leaf,
which is not a good sign as well. So anyway,
but I know Tyreek Hill did not say he wanted
to be a cop. Tell me about Stocktor Mortgage.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Doctor Mortgage. You know, if you're looking for a financing
company to maybe do a cash out refinance and build
a deck on the back of your house or pulling
them back your house his fall. Now is a good
time to do that. And doctor Morgan's here to help
you all along the way.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
It's easy to do.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
You work with the same loan officer throughout the process.
They're also for like new construction home loans, and there's
new homes everywhere all over Lexton.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Get with them.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Get with doctor Mortgage to help you get you to
the closing table. And that's what's all about. Doctor Mortgage
in MLS A two five nine equal housing lender.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
All right, we will take your We will take your
call right this It is the two eighty seven Kentucky
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Call me sweetness, and I like to dance. Running the
ball is like making romance. We had a gold sense
trained in camp to give Chicago a Super Bowl champ.
Now we're not doing this because we're greedy. The Bears
are doing this to feed the needy. We're doing to
help here looking for trouble. We just came here to
do the Super Bowl Shuffle.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Thank you very much. That was impressive.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
I can't wait to hear it on podcasts.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, podcast is gonna be great with no music behind.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
It actually might sound better because there's probably a slight
delay live, so it'll sound better actually on podcasts.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Then it will live. It was impressive. Yeah, yes, with
no words right.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
No, sh nope, knocked it out, got it straight from memories.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
At least are playing it.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Rick said, I'm sure watching the video, it's so absurd.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
It's so ridiculous. Look at Shannon while you're watching it.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Look at number four, the white guy in the front,
and look at what a horrible dancer he is, and
when when they dance, he is so far off the bland. Yeah,
I mean it is absolutely amazing, all right, Rick says
Matt After the game, Tyreek Hill said in a press
conference he wanted to be a policeman. I don't care
if he said it in a press conference. First of all,
that was seven hours after it happened. You think maybe
(14:33):
Drew Rosenhouse came out and said, hey, when you go
to the press conference, say you wouldn't be you're telling
me you believe what he was being thrown to the ground.
He said, I want to be a policeman.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
He didn't say that. He didn't.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
I bet he's saying, hey, I'm a wide receiver for
the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yes, that's what.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
I said, a police officer. Unfortunately, this football thing worked
out for me, and I'm a football player now.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I mean, no offense.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
But how gullible do you have to be to see
a postgame press conference inner and think that that means
he did it when he was being arrested.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Stop it.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Dregian House did probably tell him, hey, say this, and
of course he did because.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
He had said it in the pregame, and he was like,
make sure you go out there and say you wanted
to be a policeman.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
It'll help you, it'll help you. Who's next, shit, Alex, Alex?
Go ahead, Alex, Hey guys, first time, who are back
to the football thing?
Speaker 6 (15:25):
Matt I thought you had a good call during the
postgame show that made a good point about the fact.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
That Stoops used to build these.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
Teams around his philosophy. Yes, and I feel like the
only chance we've got offensively the rest of this year
is to build the philosophy around the team. They just
don't have the strength inside. They got to do something
quicker on offense and not continue the pro slow style.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
I think it's a great The caller on the post
game show, I appreciate the call made a great point.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
He basically said.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Stoops has recruited to a philosophy and plays a style
to a philosophy, but for whatever reason, they don't have
that now, and that they've spent their inile money on
guys that are not consistent with his philosophy. Like they
haven't spent their inil money on offensive linemen.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
They've spent it on receivers, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
And that's fine, but now they need to like design
an offense for the talent they have, not the talent
Stoops wishes they had.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Is that fair?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
I say, for what we've seen so far, it's it's fair.
You know, they completely abandoned late in the game. They
went to two tight ends and just like Drew said,
ran the ball eleven times in a row. Barry On
Brown didn't catch a pass. First time in his UK career.
He didn't catch a pass.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
That's crazy.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
I have my stat of the day. Dan Key had
a thirty two yard reception and Brock Vandergriff had thirty
total yards.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
He had more yards on that reception than the end
and the game. That's why. See. I mean, at this.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Point, you're probably gonna have to play it, which I
don't know what you can do. Do you just play
like Mike Leach style quick? Do you try to just
run and win thirteen to ten? I don't know. I
mean I think I your offensive line, here's what you
can't do. You can't drop back, what is it five three?
(17:13):
You know, five step drop or whatever under center and pass.
This offensive line is not gonna If you're gonna pass,
you're gonna have to go shotgun and just go. They
do not have time to play a pro style passing
game because we won't.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
He won't stay upright.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
It's a first time starter in the SEC and you've
got him scrambling, scrambling for his life. As soon as
he drops back or he did in the last game.
I think the lines they have to be better than
they were last Saturday. They they just had five five,
But how do you create a five? But just how
good are they? It doesn't seem like it's very good
at all.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
There's some things you can correct from week to week.
I don't know how you correct an offensive line.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
I don't I don't really have it, or I don't.
If you can't block, you can't block. I mean not again,
I'm not an expert. Maybe it's just what the I said.
And they're missing where they're supposed to be. But a
lot of times it just looked like they got beat
and all.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Yeah, by the way, Georgia comes in next week, they
don't have a good you think South Carolina's good?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Georgia play two top ten teams in three weeks, one
on the road.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
They don't produce good offensive line or.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
Defensive Tennessee's gonna be a top ten team soon.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Who's next, Mike, Mike? What's up? Mike?
Speaker 5 (18:24):
Hey, Matt, I took your advice of South Carolina being
a good game to take a first time person two Yes.
Speaker 7 (18:34):
No, no, I took I took.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
I took my girl up there and she broke up.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
With me, and she doesn't see you ever again. I understand.
I thought it would be a good first game. Clearly
that was not correct. Appreciate the call, Yeah, I mean,
you know, we talked about this, unfade this. I kind
of thought South Carolina was a smart bet, not necessarily
to win, but to cover because they hadn't played well
(19:00):
in the first week. They Kentucky might be overvalued, and
then that ended up that ended up happening.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
It wouldn't have been fine.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
If not fine, but you can live with if Kentucky loses.
You know, it's an SEC team, But six offensive points
when you're a ten point offer in.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
The game, it's just awful. Who's that? Justin? Justin? Go ahead, justin.
I got a couple of things.
Speaker 8 (19:18):
The first thing I saw, we had what was it,
forty four passing yards and we had sixty three yards
and penalties. When you have more yards and penalties and
passing yards, there is a full on malfunction.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
And then all.
Speaker 8 (19:32):
Off season I kept saying that had hopes that this
team could win eight, possibly nine, and I kept receiving
a lot of flak for it. And then they put
on that performance. I was working that game. All the
fans who was yelling to Stoops pony up, telling the.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Old line they were horrible.
Speaker 8 (19:50):
That worries me the players. The players turned around and
looked at the fans. But honestly, as the players and
as the coaches, can you be upset at the fans
for saying that stuff?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
No, no, they can't. It could be fair and to
be fair, and I appreciate the call. Stoops didn't do
what Cal did and go after the fans. He didn't
say anything about it. But when I heard that people
were screaming pony up at him as he walked off,
that's a bad side of where the pro. It reminds
me of that again, the parallels of the SEC tournament
down in Nashville, when people were yelling at step or
(20:21):
at Cal as he walked off the court, and I thought,
oh wow, this is like, like you know, the pony
up comment was so dumb after we had gotten beat
fifty one to six, and then we lost to Missouri
the next week. If you'll remember that, I think that'll
(20:41):
that's gonna be a hard one Rynd for him to overcome.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
There are so many parallels about Stoops and Cal. You
know what, what if the season continues to go south,
everybody's gonna say the Stoops Probaly should have taken that
Texas A and M job With Cal Stoops to go south,
he should have taken that UCLA job. You know, there's
a lot of similar parallels in the lady's two coaching
direct trajectories are going have gone.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
Yeah, we've never seen Stoops with this kind of pressure,
especially where they're yelling at him as he's leaving the
stadium on Saturday. And you know a lot of people,
myself included, have wondered how much gas he still has
left in him before the season even started. And if
now it's Polinama fans yelling at him, just wonder the
direction this is heading.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Yeah, I mean there's still ten games left and we
have to keep saying that. I mean, this is the
equivalent of when Kentucky lost in basketball at like Evane. Well, no,
I mean this, I'm trying to think of last year.
This is the equivalent of like, when what's a game
we lost last year we shouldn't have lost? When we
when Gonza gonzagabats or was that during February kenzagabeats.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
That was in January February. I was during the three
in a row. The point is like, there's still a
lot of yeah, and we might look different. That's right.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
We did lose to UNC Wilmington. Okay, so this is
a little bit like the UNC Wilmington game last year.
It makes it look desperate. It's hard to see how
we turn around. It didn't turn around for col I
don't know if it's gonna turn around. And but it's
not over, right, Like it's not over.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
I don't think they will. But say they did pull
off a big win you weren't considering. You call these
a wash now, it's very unlikely.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
But yeah, if you.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Were to somehow go to Old Miss and win, which
I don't think is going to happen.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
But if you did, it would be a wash. Right,
But you don't like unlike, But that's.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Not what you want to be relying on in order
to have a good season.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
We'll be right back. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
He'll make them pay now. More of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Welcome back Turkey Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two
five four. Let me give a shout out to Boyle
County High School. Boyle County High School went up to
Ohio beat a team there.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
What was the team, can't remember the name of it.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
I can't remember the team high school, but they were
ranked number twelve in the country. It is believed to
be the highest ranked team a Kentucky high school team
has ever beaten.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Wow, and they won by twenty one point. Yeah, it
wasn't closed.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Won by twenty one points. The announcers for that team
were like, who are these guys? So congrats to Boyle County.
Believed to be there's no official records, but to believe
to be the highest ranked team that a Kentucky high
school team has ever been.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
Saint Edward from Ohio. They've been dominating in Ohio.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
They're good.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
I saw them play the Leston Christian Academy in Bowling Green.
They've got the Quizenberry and Brown their Johnson their other
running back. But they've got these two Driver brothers. The
sophomore Driver brother is a stud. He's a sophomore tight end.
That's why I texted Vince. I said, Man, this Boyle
County tight end is all he goes. I'm already all over.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Him again, Shannon, probably something not to say on the show.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
You're blaming me now, I'm taking.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
It saying probably like the tips you're given on recruiting
and the response is gotten back, or maybe things.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Like you just keep to your sale. Okay, you know,
I have a high school football question.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
Okay, Frederick Douglas, Ryan, Oh I do. I just assumed
it was a win, so I didn't follow it. What
what happened?
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Were a Manuel right pump manual?
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yes? I thought they only had an academic team. That's it?
Speaker 4 (24:24):
You know, Well they were all there, The whole crowd
was there.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Is it?
Speaker 4 (24:28):
It was a rough weekend the living family. Douglas one
on Friday night, UK one on Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
We lost both those games, would I say one? Yeah,
that's a big difference.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Douglas lost on Friday night, u K lost on Saurday night,
and then Devin Key the Broncos lost on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Yeah, No, Middlesborough zero and three? Are They lost to
someplace called gate City, Virginia, which I didn't even know
was a town.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
Wait, that's where we went for uh we ate there,
that's where we had.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Camel or well that's Mac mcclunkstown, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
It is no wonder they produce all those athletes in
Gate City, no wonder, all those exotics. And then uh,
Kentucky obviously, but then the Bears beat your Titans.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
So i'll i'll, I'll take it with them. Who's next, Zach, Zach?
Go ahead, Zach?
Speaker 9 (25:11):
Hey? Is this casts armed Matt Jones or is this
MTV wraps and Mac Jones? I wasn't sure.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
I'm got yo MTV. I was good. I could do
other verses.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Let's say that.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Shut up ahead, No, I'm just playing.
Speaker 9 (25:26):
But I just wanted to make two points about the game.
And I never thought I would have to ask this
question about Mark Stoops in the Kentucky offense. But have
they forgot what a screenplay is?
Speaker 2 (25:38):
A lot? I mean this week and it didn't work,
so I don't know that well.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
To be fair, though, when the team is barreling down
as much South Carolina and they're always back there, maybe
try to hit them with a couple, you know, throw
them all balance a little. And and the only other
point I wanted to make and I'm a Mark Stoops fan,
but the only thing that I have seen consistently from
one season to the next is that our teams are
so undisciplined and we always have penalties at the worst
(26:05):
time and then follow it up with another penalty, and
I just I'm in a loss at this point.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
That's a fair I think that's definitely fair. I appreciate
the call.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
The penalties were a disaster Saturday, and it seemed like
they would happen at all full times.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
They were just a disaster.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
I think they had ten penalties in the second half alone.
A lot of them were like just senseless penalties.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
You know, movement and well, we lined up our offensive
lineman Minci lined up incorrectly two.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Times in a row, get two plays back to back.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
We've dealt with penalties for stupid and he was our
highest rated offensive line.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
In the rank for the record. Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
But when Stupents really had it going, and in the
earlier years in his era, you know, he was a
big lunch pail guy. We were showing up to the fight.
You might be a better team, but we're gonna be
in it because we're gonna scrap. We're gonna clall, we're
gonna work the hardest. The team that showed up Saturday
did not have that mentality. I don't know if the culture
has changed a little bit, but Stoops used to have
his guys ready for this game, whether they were talented
(27:05):
or not. The team that showed up Saturday was not
ready at all.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Somebody says, Matt, what about Gavin whims it? You know,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
That's uh.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
I'm not ready to say Brock is the problem yet,
but it might be the case that Gavin Whimsy could
end up being better for the particular thing we need
for this team, which is somebody getting out running, right.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
So I'm not I don't.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Consider Saturday and indictment of brought Vandergriff yet.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Let's see what happens.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
But then again, like are we gonna learn anything against
Georgia or probably not, Like it's gonna be the same issue, So.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
Feeling it might just hurt his confidence even more if
he has back to back games where he just can't
get anything done because the line isn't protecting.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Because that's that's something I've talked about. He did look
to get tentative as the game went on, you know,
and Gavin Least came in and showed it brought a
different element to the game that we can use.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Dude, there's now a video this looks like of one
of the officers just kicking Tyreek Hill kicking him.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Yeah, it just.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
That might be while they was leave pretty quickly. They
didn't take him long to put the dude on lead yesterday.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
All the more reason he did not say I want
to be a police officer as he was being kicked.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
That's a yeah, that's that's got to be the dude
that was put on leave.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Wow. Wow at a game fired.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Who's next? Dan? Dan? Go ahead? Dan?
Speaker 10 (28:31):
Hey man? Dan from Rocky Mount. Well, I can say
one thing is the UK fans won't feel as bad
as a Notre Dame fan are this morning.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Yeah, but what about Notre Dame losing it home?
Speaker 11 (28:44):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Only how about this stat?
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Only eleven times since like nineteen ninety five has a
team been a twenty four point long favorite or more
eleven times and lost.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Three of them have been in the last four years
Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Wow, no kidding, isn't that crazy? It's crazy?
Speaker 2 (29:06):
But go ahead Dan?
Speaker 10 (29:08):
Yeah, anyway, I went to the game. I can't say
anything else that hadn't been said. They just suck. Our
kicking game did look pretty good, though. I think a
punted well, and you know we made two field days.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Yeah, I don't know, though, I mean, I don't think
the punter punted well. Let's look at go look at
the difference in the punts South Carolina had versus US.
I mean, they'd go their punts would go fifty five
to fifty.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Nine yards and ours go thirty nine.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Like the thing about Barry, he had one really good
one in the first half, but generally speaking he kicks
at thirty nine yards every time, And like these guys
were playing against these SEC punters are kicking it in
the fifties. So we're losing ten yards every single time
on punts.
Speaker 10 (29:55):
Like going forward, I think, you know, coach that's never
had as much Christ is coming up. I think if
we show up to the Georgia game, we go in
beat Ohio and I think like this then said we
could go in and beat Old Miss and then we'll
forget about this game.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
But well, yeah, those are big ifs though, I mean,
and I appreciate it, Dan, those are big ifs. If
we show up and we beat them, and we beat them,
and yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
We could play good against Georgia and lose by twenty one.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
Yes, right, highly possible.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
So it's hard to know what success drew because again,
you could play well and still get destroyed.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
Yeah, and you needed to go into that game two
and oh. So if you do even play well that lost,
you can still have a little bit of a silver
line in lining in it, like, oh, we competed. No
one's gonna want to hear that. With the situation it
is now whatever that scoring is up being, unless you
play them too like a field goal, it's gonna be
hard to get that energy back.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Before then it doesn't matter what you do against Ohio,
no one's gonna care.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
No, that's not gonna make anybody supposed to win that one.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
So then basically, really the first chance he had the
team has to really show itself in some ways is
against Old Miss on the road. I mean, just for
the record, the rest of our schedule in the new
AP pole, we play four of the top seven.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Yeah, three of them on the road at Ole Miss,
at Tennessee, at Texas.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Louisville will eventually be ring Tatsuo.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
I don't want to talk about Louisville. I mean, we're
gonna beat them anyway. That's gonna be. The only silver
line is we're still gonna beat them.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
That's what happened last year.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Ole Miss is only averaging like sixty something points through.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Two weeks a game. Yeah, only, Yeah, we'll hold him
under that. Who's next, Richard, Richard, Go ahead, Richard.
Speaker 12 (31:48):
Good morning, ks R. Thank you for taking a call.
Speaker 11 (31:53):
I just have a general question or comment and would
be interested in hearing what you have to say in
Western can I live in the Hopkinsville area and I'm
a subscriber.
Speaker 12 (32:04):
To direct TV and ATTV Verse, and we are.
Speaker 11 (32:09):
Currently blacked out from all games on ABC, ESPN and
the SEC network correct, so we didn't get to see
any of the good games this weekend.
Speaker 12 (32:21):
I'd just be interested to hear your comment about that.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
And well, I mean it's terrible. Help please do Yeah,
it's terrible.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
I mean I'm the same way, uh at one at
my place in Louisville. I'm gonna finally get rid of
it and just do YouTube TV everywhere. But it's the
same way we had that issue here at the bar.
This was a scramble all weekend because we didn't have
the ESPN channels. We had to bring some new spectrum
things in to try to get to work. And it
was the television situation here was. I give credit to
(32:49):
the people that worked on it, Jamie and Huvey and others,
like they worked their tails off because every three hours
it was a new situation because of all that, But
it's awful for the people. I will say this, sir,
I expect them to try to get it worked out
by Monday night football tonight. If they don't, then that
means they're in it for the long haul, and I
(33:09):
would think.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
About switching to something else. To be honest with.
Speaker 11 (33:12):
You, Well if of course we have a contract with
direct TV that links us.
Speaker 12 (33:16):
To a year.
Speaker 11 (33:17):
Yeah, but it sounds to me like, you know, they
promised ESPN, they promised these sports channels, and to me,
that means they're in a breach of contract.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
And well that's a whole other thing. Yeah, but lawsuits,
I mean, you have to pay for the lawyer and
all that. But I appreciate the call.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
I would say, I think I think they'll probably do
it tonight because I don't think they're gonna want to
miss the first Monday night football game. But if they
go through tonight and it's not done, then I start
to think Ryan, it may who knows.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
See, I thought it would be done before yesterday's Week
one NFL if I don't work it out tomorrow morning
yesterday morning, but there.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Were no big games on ESPN yesterday, and there are
there were no NFL games.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
On ESPN yesterday.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
So like, tonight's the night. Tonight's the night, and we'll
see what they end up doing.
Speaker 5 (34:09):
Maybe after they aired Kentucky's game on ABC, they're like,
we just shouldn't show football at all after that performance.
Speaker 13 (34:14):
Uh, tds, tuddies, tuddies, never heard I've never heard of
you not follow the trends.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Guess was it a TikTok thing or like it's just.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
A what kids say? You can take it to the house,
whatever you call it. You could bet those at DraftKings
sports book. There are bets all the time for the
first touchdown. They had huge deals on that this weekend. Uh,
if you're ready to go, you can bet first players
score touchdown and it's over very quickly.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
I hit a couple yesterday. That's the only good fortune
I had.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
So there's some like tonight there you can bet the
first person in the in the Jets forty nine Ers game.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
That's all there. Score big with Draft Kings Sports Book,
the number one place to score tuddies.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
This is Kendrick Lamar. He will be the Super Bowl
halftime performer this year.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
What about that? Uh?
Speaker 5 (35:28):
I was hoping for Little Wayne because they're going to
New Orleans. But uh, this is really bad news for Drake.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Drake lost.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Drake Drake already lost, but Kendrick has final blow Poor.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Drake, Like, don't you get into rap battle next thing?
You know that dude ends up at the super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Yeah, and the whole crowd's gonna sing that a minor part.
Maybe one hundred million people watching at home, we'll sing
it to.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
They're not gonna let him sing that song.
Speaker 5 (35:50):
He is absolutely gonna sing that song.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
Wow, Yeah, Drake's done.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Don't don't you get? But you know what you.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Don't It's one of us, Matt, aren't you You don't fight.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
You don't fight someone that has a bazuka right and
you have a slingshot.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
You you you just you don't do it.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
So this week Thursday, we are at the Mint in
Bowling Green the opening of their new.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
UH sports book. We're gonna have a night out in
Bowling Green Wednesday night.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Billy has said he wants to take us to his
old college bar, which makes me think, like, I think
Billy's gonna think he's gonna walk in there and it's
gonna be like, oh here comes Billy. Billy's back, Shannon,
Are you excited to see Billy's former hangouts at Western?
Speaker 1 (36:40):
I didn't know that we were going there, but I
don't think that any of the people that went there
when Billy was in school were gonna be there still.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
I think he's forgotten that.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
I think Billy thinks he's gonna walk right in and
it's gonna be nine years ago and then everyone's still
gonna be there. But I don't think he realizes they've
graduated and so they're not gonna be there.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
He keeps mentioning this bar crawl.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
But the times I've consumed alcohol with Billy, it was
a very quick fifteen minutes. Maybe we're doing a tour
of waters at all these places.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
So then and then this weekend, I gotta go to
Green Bay. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
So here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
If you are a Kentucky fan that is going to
be at the Green Bay game Sunday, let me know.
I'd love to have you come by and see me
and Myron. We start our NFL Kickoff tour. We're going
to Dallas in October, Chicago in November, and then Cincinnati
in December. But we open up in Green Bay. Here's
(37:35):
the thing. We have to go to a party. Shannon
at the head of ESPN Radio now lives in Milwaukee.
H So we have to go to a party in
Milwaukee at the guy's house, and they've specifically invited me
and Myron, and I'm bringing Mario.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Mario's riding with me.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
So me, Myron and Mario are going to be at
this guy's house going what's up my man.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
To bring a plus one when you're invited to a
house party.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
To bring Mario and they said, okay, so that so
you know, the head of ESPN Radio gonna be a
little Milwaukee house party.
Speaker 5 (38:11):
Are you taking a dish wine anything for the fridge?
Speaker 2 (38:15):
We're gonna take a cast or ole.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Myron was really big on that this summer. What are
you gonna take to his family reunion?
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Yes? Well this is this is our boss going.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
To his house this Saturday night before the games Saturday nights.
I'm gonna have to like teleport.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
I don't know what We're going through a couple of
different options. I may just hit the end of the party.
But either way, they're gonna be at that at the party.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
And then your show Sundays at that Draft Kings house
right by lambeau Field.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Yeah, at the house across the stream House. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
But yeah, we'll be had all this food, drinks.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
It was awesome. Should be fun. Uh.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
But if you're in Dallas, by the way, that's our
next one. We don't have a place to do it yet.
So if you know somebody that has like a bar
or something, reach out to me. I think ESPN uh
would be interested. Who's next?
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Ken?
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Ken? Go ahead? Ken? Hey?
Speaker 7 (39:04):
Good morning guys. Quick thoughts on the current football situation,
and first of all, I'm a fan of stoops, but
I think the one missing ingredient is discipline. You saw Clayburne,
you saw Rich Brooks. They had disciplined teams. They didn't
beat themselves. I like for somebody to do some research.
(39:27):
How many games in the stoopid era have we really
been beat and how many did we beat ourselves.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
I think it's a fair point about discipline, especially in
the last couple of years, due this team has had
I don't know what the numbers are, but it has
led the sec and penalties the last few years, and
I think discipline has been a big part of it.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
You've mentioned that arrogance they had that I don't really
see that this year. I don't a lot of tawning
and a lot of flexing when you're not even winning
on the scoreboard at certain moments.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
That's not the case this year.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
But the penalties were a huge problem on last Saturday,
no doubt.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Who's next.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Let's go to Sean from Austin.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Sean, this will be you'll be got about a minute. Yeah,
it'll be quick. I was listening when I was doing
some yard work out there. I love I still love
Kentucky even though I'm Austin.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
But guys, I'm just feeling I mean, stick a fork
in them.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
They're done well.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
I hope that's not true, but I kind of wonder
if it is. You don't want to say that two
games in the season. I appreciate the call, but it's hard.
What do you if you were Mark real quick, what
would you say tonight?
Speaker 4 (40:31):
I would say that I'm mad, this is unacceptable and
we're going to change it around. And that's what I
want to hear from my coach. I want him to
say this is not the way Kentucky football is going
to be the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
What would you say?
Speaker 5 (40:41):
I would definitely show some emotion, very angry. I would
probably even call out Wolford by name. I would normally
do that. I mean the line, it's the story. It
made everything else bad around it. So the line needs
to be a big part of a discussion how they're
going to fix it, how it's even as bad as
it was.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
I need to hear some answers.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
It's pretty awful, and he needs to say something positive
tonight because you know, next Saturday, I think we'll be
I think that stadium will still have people there next Saturday.
But I worry about the next one. That's the Ohio game.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
That's the one noon court.
Speaker 3 (41:15):

(41:36):
maybe the low point of the Stoops era. Hopefully it
bounces back, or is it the start of the permanent decline.
I guess we're gonna find out over these next few weeks.
Thank you all very much for listening. We'll be back here.
We are here tomorrow and Wednesday, Bowlingering Thursday, country Boy.
