of stuff going on today. Mark Pope will be on
the show at ten forty. It was going to be eleven,
but it got moved up and he will be on
at ten forty. So tell your friends, tell people you
meet on the street. Ten forty am. Mark Pope will
make only his second appearance on KSR. Ready to talk

(01:23):
to us.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
How about that our new head basketball coach kind of
come up for the second time in five months and
the previous.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
So we focus on Mark Pope coming okay and not
making it about things of the past.

Speaker 7 (01:34):
But Mark excited to have Mark on the math on.
That is crazy that it's been five months since he
was on the show. It feels like it was just yesterday.
Maybe not for you, you took a little bit of
lap around the world, but I remember he'd get on here.
He said, I want to get in the weeds. Yeah,
he was talking about their whiteboard with a broken wheel.
It was really fun hearing from him that first time,
and I expect it again.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
I think he's done that, by the way. I think
he has gotten in the weeds, yes, oh absolutely, And
he's been about as good as you could have ho
for all the parts of the job that we wondered
if he would so really excited to have him on. Also,
today is Mario's birthday. Yeah, birthday.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
I mean I am shating like we never got the
treatment he gets. It's just people bringing him gifts. He's
wearing Grandma glasses today because it's his birthday and uh,
you know, happy birthday. He's now a quarter of a
century old, half as old as Saturday Night Live that
turns fifty this year.

Speaker 6 (02:32):
I have a son older than Mario. That just makes
me feel really really really old.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Well you are old, so I think it's I think,
really really old. Yeah, I mean I don't know. I'm one.
Really I don't know if i'd go with two realies.
But Drew, Happy birthday tomorrow.

Speaker 7 (02:46):
Yeah, I love Mario. He's on quite the heater. I
mean he did that Chicago Boys trip. Yeah, Lambo got
that nice gift yesterday celebrating the birthday.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
He's just killing it absolutely.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
That gift from the ladies of kses Day was awesome
if you saw what was all in there, a lot
of these gift cards and they did a good job
of getting the places that he likes his like favorite
places for.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
The for the women listeners. If you haven't joined the
Ladies of KSR facebook page. You should. They seem like
they are like the nicest group.

Speaker 6 (03:13):
Absolutely they are.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
And then and for our newer listeners, Bond that Bridge,
so to speak, is the regular Facebook page.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
You know it was. It's a cool name. I think
it makes it hard for people to find it because
it's Bond that Bridge. You have to go back twelve
years to know that reference. Yea.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
So it's like, you know, you know, not as many
haters on there because if you know, you know, right,
So so yeah, now look Mark Pope being on here.
There's an announcement about the Blue White Game that I
think is a big part of why he's coming. Okay,
but we have to start with the Vulture.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Couple in London.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
I mean, this is one of the great, in my opinion,
Drew Kentucky's stories of all time. Okay, so what started
almost a week almost two weeks ago as a real
tragedy potentially man on the side of the road shooting
at the road, hit seven people, nobody passed away thankfully,

(04:14):
and then he was on the run.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
And you know there were schools closed for a week. Yes,
the state, state, state police, and federal agents were looking everywhere.
Local police could not find him. And then Fred and
Sheila McCoy and Fred and Sheila McCoy. Just so you know,
I tried to get Fred and Sheila on the show today.
I got their phone number. I called and texted. I

(04:37):
think it was Sheila. Didn't get back to me.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
But you know what, I'm sure they're very busy, right, Uh,
Fred and Sheila go on a date night. Now, what
is your like, Ryan, what's your average date night?

Speaker 6 (04:49):
Just probably pre drink somewhere and then go to a
nice dinner. It's usually my go to date night. You
pre drink, yeah, buzz before I anyway, Yeah, you go
to tell place else for pre drinks and then.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
You that's like what college kids do. You're pre drinking
at fifty seven.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
Yeah, it's like you know, you tailgate for a football
gamey tailgate before tailgate for your before your day.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
Yes, all right, yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
So pre drink for pre drink dinner. What about you, Drew,
what's yourn Abby's kind of.

Speaker 7 (05:21):
Trying a new restaurant. It's got so many places. I
was trying to find a new one and go there
new experiences.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
So that's what yours, you know, nothing like go too
a care. Yeah, yeah, I mean there's not I'm.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Not read a magazine together.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah, exactly to read a magazine, Uh, that's not. Friend
and Sheila. Fred and Chila are on a date night
and they're.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
Like, how can we you know, how can we keep
the You don't want to keep the spice?

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Sure, like that's the thing, like if you're gonna have
it as someone who's never been married, what I do
know from people who have success, they always got you
got to keep it spikes. Oh yeah, you got to
keep it going. And they decide it's date night. How
are we gonna keep it going?

Speaker 5 (06:02):
Let's go hunt for that Bok in the thickets and
the thorns, like like, let's be pillars of our community,
and let's go hunt for that Bok.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
And so their YouTube streamers. You look at Fred and
Sheela McCoy Shannon, excuse me, you don't necessarily think YouTube streamers.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
When you see them.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, the YouTube stream that's a great thing about YouTube, Drew,
everybody's doing it.

Speaker 7 (06:28):
The Hatfield McCoy Museum Adventures, that is the name of
their program.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
They run, the Hatfield McCoy Museum Adventure. Here's what's interesting.
It's in Casey County, which is nowhere near where the
Hatfields of McCoy's lived. True, it's part of the adventure
that haf exactly. The adventure is, you're not anywhere close
to where any of this is. You're gonna have to
find your way. I've been to the Hatfield McCoy Museum
in Williamson, West Virginia, which is where they were.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Far Bi, I didn't know there was one in Casey County.

Speaker 8 (06:57):
It's a satellite location, you know what.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I'm going to it at some point. So they go
their YouTube streamers. They decide and that you got to
give Fred and sheiela credit. You know, the whole government
was looking for this guy. Yes, and they decided, let's
look where the vultures are. Huh, very smart, Shannon vultures
ten nunes.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
You know, nature takes care of itself. Nature takes death.

Speaker 8 (07:22):
This seems like something Harvey would have suggested.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
It rest in peace, Harvey. Harvey would have been with them. Yes,
he would have been a love triangle with Harvey there
as well. They go, they use the maps to see
where the vultures are, and they go into the woods
and they live stream it and let me just tell
you it's thirty minutes. The major moment is twenty nine

(07:51):
minutes in, but you shouldn't skip over the twenty nine
minutes before if you see the video. I didn't link
it because they do come upon a b and that
might be troubling for some folks, but they're good characters,
the two of them. The woman is holding the camera
and narrating, and the guy's going.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
Stick over here, look at that tree.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Like like it's it's it's it's oddly fascinating, And about
the twenty nine and a half minute mark they discover it.
Shannon Sheila, channeling her inner DJ Tanner from.

Speaker 5 (08:25):
Full House Right, says, oh.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
My Lanta, we found him. That was I mean that
you talk about the reference I haven't heard in a
long time.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
Oh my Lanta, so come from I didn't know what
it used to say it instead of saying like, uh,
you know, oh my blood, you know, cursing goodness, well,
the other one, the one you wouldn't say because it's heresy,
she would say, oh my Lanta.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
So that's where it came from.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
She says, oh my Lanta, we found them, and they
find the body and two YouTubers who were on a
date night looking for bodies end up finding the shooter. Thankfully,
that'll probably keep I mean, it's you know, unfortunate, Well

(09:11):
it's unfortunate the situation, but it'll probably it makes the community,
I'm sure, feel safer, etc.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
But what a story, and what a Kentucky story.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
I think Fred maybe used to be KSP, so you know,
he knew tactics. But they found it from what I see,
from what I heard on looking where the vultures were,
and they just get out in the woods themselves.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
Drew, do you love this story as much as that?

Speaker 7 (09:38):
I can't love it more. There can't be a more
Kentucky resolution for this story. You mentioned that videos thirty
minutes long. I've watched an hour and a half of it.
I've seen it three times all over. No, it's so good.
It is so good.

Speaker 8 (09:51):
Friend Sheila are perfect, they're the perfect. They find it.
They need to name Exit forty nine Fred, Sheila Exit.
Put a statue up.

Speaker 7 (09:58):
It's just crazy that there is this huge manhunt that's
gone on for days and what's not she would just
hop out.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
And the body wasn't that far for where they did it,
which is odd to me.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
Shannon.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
They spent all that time searching, and it was like
right in front of their notes.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
It was like right close to where he did it.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
But the vultures hadn't picked up on it yet.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
The vultures hadn't got it.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Like She's walking at one point, Shannon, and she goes,
you smell that, Fred, She gets a smell.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
You smell that wind. That's a body. She was like
the wind. And I thought, how does she know?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Sheila smelled in minutes before Fred. And by the ways,
this is this was live stream. So she smelled and
then she goes, now I don't smell it. Now, Oh,
the wind's picking up again. And then she smelled it.
And she was telling Fred to go left or right
based on the wind.

Speaker 5 (10:48):
The dog. I mean, I can't even I can't even
change my oil.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
This woman is smelling bodies based on the direction of
the wind.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
That's a woman. That's a mountain woman.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
That's the kind of person you bring home who you
know will help you get through life. A woman who
can smell bodies in the wind ride limit.

Speaker 6 (11:08):
Just like she said, a bloodhound. She was leading the
pack out of there and go ahead, well the whole
like I said, the whole thing's perfect. The fact they're
from Casey County. They call themselves the Hatfield McCoy Adventure Series.
You know his name is Fred. They're in the chopping
around looking at vultures in the sky.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Anything about if you were to draw up what I
want him to be wearing when he finds the body.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Yeah, that's right. You know what I mean?

Speaker 7 (11:30):
He is now chancelo is what he wears to bed,
what he wears to farm, what he wears to everything.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
He's awesome. Shannon has the audio of when they discovered
the body.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Okay, here it is.

Speaker 9 (11:44):
You found him, Oh Milanta, I'm coming, Oh my Landa.
You founding, Oh Milanta.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
He's deteriorating Mitlanta and you And for those of you
that haven't seen the video, that's the actual live audience.
It's the actual life. Do it one more time.

Speaker 10 (12:08):
Shit, Okay, you found him, Oh Mitlanta, I'm coming, Oh
my Lanta.

Speaker 9 (12:22):
You found him, Oh Milanta?

Speaker 5 (12:27):
I mean, come on, how are you not like if
I'm her, I'm selling oh.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Mi Lanta shirts like oh my Lanta when we score
against Ohio Saturday. If you don't think I'm screaming, oh
my Atlanta. I don't know what's gonna happen. I mean, Drew,
it's so perfect, and I wanted to get him on
the show. I understand like they probably got they might
have been on Good Morning America today.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
But nevertheless, what a great story.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
They need to have a reality show within a month.
What other mysteries do we have that they need to
go sell?

Speaker 4 (12:58):
True, we don't need Bucks Divers and Richie Farmer to
host this show. Give me Fred and Sheila right, like
they there's so much there.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
I want to hear more from them. Where is that
rank on date nights? Is that just a typical date night?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
Not even it's in the middle of the pack, Like
it's not even one of their best date nights?

Speaker 5 (13:16):
Like they Oh my goodness, they are doing like their
date nights.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
They accomplish more on a Tuesday than I doing an
entire year.

Speaker 6 (13:25):
Ryan, We're obviously been doing it wrong. They're doing it right.
At the Happy Couple. They got their own date night routine.

Speaker 8 (13:30):
So parade statue, Oh you got a name the highway after?

Speaker 4 (13:33):
You gotta do something, bring them, bring them to a game.
It's Fred and Sheila. I'm I'm fine with calling exit
forty nine exit, Fred and Sheila like I'm.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
Good with and you know the interview with the news
outlets interviewed him last night, he was like very not
shy about, like, yeah, we're doing it for the ransom
of the money, singing whatdy five thousand dollars for?

Speaker 5 (13:54):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (13:54):
So they were like, you know, they were like, honey,
how are we gonna pay for these dates?

Speaker 5 (13:58):
Let's go find this.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Bot find that's a good rewarded on top of it.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Yeah, why not having an il deal? Right?

Speaker 9 (14:05):
Ye?

Speaker 4 (14:06):
Billboards, Yes, I love it, so salute to friend Chile
and uh, oh my Atlanta. They did it. Uh, it's
it's awesome. And if you're in Casey County and you
know them, and I'm sure you do, it feels like
to me, that's not a couple that's kind of under
the radar. It feels like, to me, a couple that
people know in the town A five nine two A

(14:26):
to oh twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
We will take a break, be very back.

Speaker 9 (14:30):
This kisr oh Milanta.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
Welcome Mack.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio. By the way, it's Lincoln County,
not in Casey County. It's from Houstonville.

Speaker 6 (14:43):
Yeah, in Lincoln in Lincoln County.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
Yes, apparently she uh maybe worked in the in the
court clerk's office or something. One person writes, and this
is right early in the stream, Fred says, I got
the flu and can't smell.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
Sheila.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
You do the smell. Wait, that's beautiful like that Shannon
and I. I can't do the smell. Sheila, you please
do the smell.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
It's right, Hey, that's what she's out there.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
Listen, division of labor. Like everybody has a string. You know,
I have a really good note. Yes I don't have
Sheila level nose, but I have a good nose. But
like you know, seventeen years of wearing these headphones, hearing's
not as great.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
So if I was to go with Mario, Mario listens,
I smell right, Drew.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
You see you got lasik and all of a sudden
we're out there doing.

Speaker 7 (15:36):
It's also says a lot about their marriage. You know,
he's down a little bit, she's picking up the slack.
You can't smell. Don't worry, honey, I'll smell for us.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
It's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
One person writes, I don't think I could be married
to Sheila.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
The moment I farted, she would know he called me out.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
You say, all at Atlanta, He's deteriorting.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
It's exactly apparently was it was? It was not DJ,
it was Stephanie uh Tanner Shannon, who said, now it
was DJ. I watched every episode that Corey told me
it was my it was, it was Stephanie.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
It was DJ.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Right in Fuller House, it was definitely DJ.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
All right, Corey, don't argue with me about nineties television references, please,
especially he.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Said, how Stephanie said, how rude, how rude? That was Stephanie.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
That's how she would say. That's right. So there, don't
argue if I said.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
One person writes, Matt, I'm happy for friend and Sheila,
but is it a bad look for the police that
they've been searching for a week and a half and
it took two people on YouTube looking at vultures to
find you. I've heard that argument a lot. What's your
All's take on that.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
I know you got to understand that area though, that
that's a tough area to try to find anything in
you're trying to find a body. They had helicopters, they
had drones, they had boots on the ground. I mean,
they were out there actually looking for this guy. You
know the vulture, Well there were fifty vultures, they said
about fifty flying around yesterday, so that should have been
a pretty good clue if something's over there.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
So you do you think it's a bad look? Maybe
a little.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
He's like a politician change, he just talks around and
then never answers the exact question. You think maybe a little.

Speaker 8 (17:15):
Maybe a little?

Speaker 5 (17:16):
Right? What about you?

Speaker 7 (17:17):
No, you see Fred Sheila, that's not their first time
walking those woods. I know there was a lot more manpower,
a lot more in the budget, a lot more at
their disposable disposal to search for him on the police side.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
But Fred shela have been around the block Exit forty.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Do we know how many Fred and Sheila's were out there? Like,
were there a lot of people out there besides the
police and they just came upon it or was it
just the police with a parallel Fred and Sheila operation?

Speaker 6 (17:43):
Yeah, I mean this has gotta be maybe a date
night thing we don't know about. Maybe there were other
couples out there.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
Tranp me, I feel like you are going to be directed.
Do you think it's a bad look?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
No, I don't. I think it's right place, right time.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
I think if Fred and Sheila were out there maybe
a week ago, they wouldn't have found it either. I
think it's just long enough to where the buzzards picked
up on the body and they just thought to be
there at that moment.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
There are some people that say the police were not
that far from them, that like the general area the
police were in too, and that may be to Shannon,
they just came upon them before the police. But still,
I mean YouTube streaming. I will tell you this, if

(18:24):
they go hunting for something again, I will be tuned
in life.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
Yeah, subscriber, I will be a new subscriber.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
I will be tuned in live to whatever hunt Fred
and Sheila go on in the future.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
The police and how about Sheila versed the dogs with
the nose? I mean that's what's more impressive. So are
the Sheila really smelled it and the dogs didn't smell
it so.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Like I was, I have a good nose, don't I
don't think I have a Sheila nose? Are there are
there people? I mean they always say dogs have like
insane sense of smell, especially crime dogs.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Are there people who are like that, who just are
able to.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
Sniff out the most, Like, do you think, like, do
you think if there was a person they could do
like the dogs do at the airport and smell the.

Speaker 8 (19:12):
Druss I think we might have found one.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
I mean that may be a reach, but there are
people that have just this incredible sense of smell. I
think you're one of them, Yoga girls one of them.
Some people can like taste something and break down the
spices in something they're tasting. I mean they had that ability.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Yeah. Well, amazing story. One of the most Kentucky stories
of all time. It is.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
And if Sheila fred I would love to have you on.
If you got my number, hopefully we can make it happen.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
Who's up next, Josh? Josh? Go ahead, Josh.

Speaker 11 (19:42):
Hey guys, how you doing doing good?

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Hey?

Speaker 11 (19:46):
So, last year I was a really big fan of
Alabama's offense and I was always getting mad at Caw
for not playing big Z out there with like Read
and rob and Antonio. Do you think that a pope
would be willing to play like Carr at the center. Yeah,
and then like Angelore, Robinson, Brea and Kerr, like a

(20:08):
five five guy lineup that could just shoot the lights out. Yes,
do you think we'll end up playing that.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
I think, yeah, I think we'll have I think that
will happen quite a bit.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
I don't know if it will happen at the start
of the year. I think probably Carr plays the four
at the start, but he's a four that can shoot.
I mean, one of the things the key to me
and I appreciate the call. It's less drue about the height,
right then, it's about can the four shoot.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
If the four can shoot, the five doesn't necessarily have
to shoot, although you'd like them to, but the four
has to be a really good shooter in my opinion
to make sort of a modern offense, and Carr is
that right. I think if you try to play two bigs,
like if you.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Try to play Garrison and Williams or something that might
that's not gonna work. But if you do that, I
don't see any reason why that can't work.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
You know.

Speaker 7 (21:01):
And if I'm not mistaken, Car played a little bit
of the five at Wake Forest last year. Defense and
rebounding might be an issue in there. He'll primarily play
the four, especially if depth is good with Williams and Garrison,
but there will be situations where he plays the five
and they go even smaller.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Yeah, I think there definitely will be. I think that's
actually gonna be a centerpiece of what he does. I
think in a perfect world, he's gonna want five guys
that can shoot threes. I mean, I think you take
a dude like Nate Sestina or a dude like Olivier
Saar Mark, Pope would be better players with the be
a better coach with those guys.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
Now, you take a dude like Isaiah Brisco, he was
probably a better cow fit, then he would be a
Pope fit. Would you agree with that?

Speaker 6 (21:43):
Yeah? But like the caller said, that lineup he put
out there, I think we're gonna see a lineup like that.
If put five shooters on the floor and let's run
with them, Let's see what we got.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Who's up next, Mike, Mike, go ahead, Mike, got about
a minute?

Speaker 5 (21:58):
All right? Man?

Speaker 12 (21:59):
Hey, So Fred and Sheila they're very interesting folks. My
son actually had she as a kindergarten agent at Houstonville
Element and she still teaches there.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
Oh, she's still teaching them. So she's like in class today. Correct.

Speaker 12 (22:15):
And Bred was the he was the police chief there
in Houstonville for forever, and he started the Houstonville Haunted House.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
Oh, there's a houston Friend Haunted house.

Speaker 13 (22:30):
He sold that. He sold that to a guy.

Speaker 12 (22:33):
But he started it, and I mean it hime a
really popular deal and he sold it. So he's a
pretty interesting dude.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
Yeah, I can always house still open in Houstonville.

Speaker 12 (22:44):
Yes, there is still a Houstonville Haunted House, but it
moved to the Metropolis sub Junction City.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
You know what, as soon as the big corporation comes
and by the haunted House, they move it from Houstonville
to Junction City.

Speaker 5 (22:58):
I understand. Well, I appreciate the call. I already love
these people. They are awesome. We'll be right back on KSR.
TJ Smith personal injury attorney.

Speaker 8 (23:08):
Call TJ.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio. Present it by Stockton Mortgage.

(23:36):
You can go to shady rays dot com or they
have a store in Lexington and a store in Louisville
as well. One person rites on the text machine seven
to seven two seven seven four five two five four. Matt,
I do think Fred and Sheila would have gone forward
on fourth to.

Speaker 8 (23:48):
Night, Absolutely no doubt with their mind.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
You think you think friend Chieler punting. No, No, they're
not putting. They're going for it. They're going for They're.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Gonna be like we have we have one chance, we're
going for it, one opportunity. Fred would go for it.
She would go for it. She would smell out the
defense before we go. No way, they're going for it.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
It sounded like the VC said that he has the flu.
His smeller is bad. He must have maybe had that
sense of smell also just that day. It didn't happen
with the flu.

Speaker 5 (24:17):
Sometimes it happens.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
My voice is kind of shakey, all right, So let's
talk for a second about what Mark Pope is going
to be on for to talk about the Blue White Game.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow at ten am. This is
a we always say we want Kentucky to be kind
of at the forefront of things. This is an example
of where I think Kentucky is being at the forefront

(24:39):
of things. They're gonna have it Immemorial Coliseum, but it
is a fundraiser for nil.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
It is.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
They decided to move it from up and they're going
to basically have it. If you, excuse me, are a
member of Club Blue, you get a discount to go.
It's also set up to where if you've thought about
being a Club Blue member, like you should do it
now because it will essentially make a fourth of the
ticket price go away for the for the game, your

(25:07):
first your first month, so you so it's like also
an incentive to join. I've heard some plans about what
they're thinking about doing. I think this is gonna be
an unbelievably cool event. They're gonna have like a real scrimmage,
but not like a big blue Madness scrimmage where they
just dunk like they're having a game and it'll be

(25:28):
the first one they have like they're they're doing it
at the at Blue White. But also they're gonna do
interactive stuff. And the big thing is I think every
school in the country, by the way is going to
be doing this at some point. I just think it's
a smart idea and I think it's gonna be a
great event for fans. You know, I've talked a lot

(25:48):
with the Club Blue people about some of their some
of their thoughts. They've listened to me on some things
I think would be good. But they go on sale
tomorrow at ten and honestly, for UK basketball, if this
goes well, if this, if this event goes well, it's
a huge step on getting the anile you need for
the year. If this thing goes well and you can go,

(26:09):
I think to Club blueenil dot com. There's a link
to the ticket page and see the tickets and they
go on sale tomorrow ten.

Speaker 5 (26:15):
I love the idea.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
I love the idea that they're doing something uh perks
for the people that join and get this, like you said, successful,
they'll have more events like this where they'll be better
perks and other things you can do if you become
a member. So just the way they're reaching out to
the van base is something we haven't seen in a
while and I love it.

Speaker 10 (26:31):
Now.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Listen, I mean it is a you know, it is
a cost. I mean, it's not it's but it's like
a ticket to a regular game. But I think in
order to justify that, you got to give a good experience.
And I think they're going to do it. All the
players gonna be there, the coaches, men's and women's team,
and I think the difference from.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
This is that it's actually going to be like a
real game. You know, sometimes when you see the the
big blue madness things that does, that's not a game.
I think this is going to be an actual game,
and that for us it's the first time we're gonna
see an these dudes.

Speaker 7 (27:02):
Play, right, well, it's very unique circumstances actually will never
happen again. You have a brand new renovation that you're
kind of unveiling. You have a brand new women's program,
new coach, new players across the roster outside of a
couple of returneys there, brand new men's coach, all new
men's team. You'll never be pulling back the curtain on
something new. You will, And I think it's cool to

(27:23):
have this event built around it. I think it's very
exciting for anyone who's able to go. In addition to
how you can unique it is with the fundraising aspect.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
So I uh, I'm looking forward.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
I'm gonna go and you know, nowadays it's I have
to I don't go to a lot, but I think
this is gonna be one of those that's the start
of something kind of, kind of special. So Mark's gonna
come on talk about it, also, gonna ask him about
the team, how recruiting's going.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
We haven't gotten to talk to him since we first got.

Speaker 8 (27:49):
Hired April twenty ninth.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
That was the day, April twenty ninth, and now we are,
you know, almost at September twenty ninth and ready to go.
So we're gonna take an early break so that we
can have a segment with him. So we will take
an early break. Come back, Mark Pope when we return
here on KSR. Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio Now joined
on the phone by Mark Pope, the University of Kentucky

(28:13):
head basketball coach.

Speaker 5 (28:15):
Mark. Great to have you on.

Speaker 4 (28:16):
We talked to you right after you were hired, and
now it's been almost five months in the job.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Does it feel like it after that long? Oh?

Speaker 13 (28:26):
You know what, Matt, First of all, I'm so hyped
to be on. Second, I think we've lost all sets
of space and time right. So, I don't know what
it feels like. It feels like brilliant and beautiful and
big blue, right. So, I don't know if it feels
like it's just been a day or it feels like
it's been five years, but probably both.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Yeah, well you've been everywhere. I see you all over
the state, all over the country. You know, you get
a job like this, you sit there and you say, Okay,
I've got the job I've always dreamed of. What's it
like now that you've actually done it for five months?

Speaker 13 (29:01):
It's it's it's the greatest job in the world. It's
the greatest job in the world. You know, the day
I forget that is the day that MIT should should
move me out of here, because this is this is
this is just really incredibly special and it's the greatest
challenge that I'll ever face in my life professionally. And
it's also the greatest honor to be here, uh, coaching

(29:24):
this program. And and so every day, Uh.

Speaker 12 (29:26):
It's not hard to remember that.

Speaker 13 (29:28):
It's really not. I mean, you know, there's some you know,
occasional we have a day where it's a heavy work day,
and uh, but every day is joy man, because we're
doing something we love, and we're doing it at the
greatest institution in all college basketball, and we're certainly doing
it in front of the greatest stand base in all
of sports. I think I really do like.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
That greatest fan base in all of sports. All Right,
I want to talk.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Let's talk about the event that's coming and then some
questions about the team.

Speaker 5 (29:53):
Tomorrow, tickets are going to go on sale for.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
This new Blue White game that's a fundraiser for ni
L for UK basketball. Tell people the thoughts behind it
and what's going to happen there in a few weeks.

Speaker 13 (30:06):
Yeah, I'm so excited about this. So so this is
this is just our regularly scheduled practice. Okay, So it's
gonna be what's gonna happen is that we're gonna scrimmage
like we're gonna live scrimmage. In fact, I think it'll Uh.
I think it's gonna be the first time the public
will be able to see live scrimmage for a full game.

Speaker 9 (30:28):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (30:28):
The BBN will be able to see that, and so
it's gonna be really exciting.

Speaker 8 (30:32):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (30:32):
Club Blue now is is just taking this normal practice
and they turned it into this incredible event where uh,
you know, they're gonna have every time, and it's gonna
be a fiesta, right, it's gonna be. I think it's
gonna be pretty epic. I'm really excited about all the
things that we're hearing that Club Blue is gonna do
around this. And then you know, for us, like we're

(30:55):
going to compete like it's gonna be, it's gonna be
game speed, full intensity kind of pride and and guts
and and and blood and sweat on the floor, uh,
scrimmage where our guys are trying to prove themselves. Like
we have a lot of guys, You're gonna be trying
to earn time, earn position, learn how to play with
each other. Our coaches will be miked up so you'll

(31:16):
be able to hear them coaching.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
We're gonna get to hear We're gonna get to hear
you guys coach during the game for real.

Speaker 13 (31:24):
Yeah, and there will probably be some commentary from us
during timeouts and halftime where you really get an inside
look at exactly the mechanism how this is uh and
and how we operate and and and you know how
we're trying to uh you know, uh build this thing.
I think it's gonna be incredible, actually, so I'm super

(31:45):
excited about it. I've never seen anything done like it before,
and it's the way Kentucky should be. I mean, we
should be doing things that have never been done before,
and this is certainly be one of them, and so
I'm incredibly excited it all. So Club Blue is also
a lynch pin organization in the future of Kentucky basketball. Like,

(32:09):
in this new environment, what Club Blue is doing to
allow us to compete, I can't. I cannot overstate it's important.
It's quintessentially important to everything we're doing. And so the
fact that we get to partner with them on this,
that they're building this incredible event around our practice is

(32:29):
super cool.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
So if I'm coming, if I'm a fan that's coming,
I'm gonna. You know, one of the things I've heard
over the years is people go, ah, you know these
Blue White and the man as they're not really playing.
Are you planning on having these guys really play in
this situation?

Speaker 5 (32:46):
No?

Speaker 13 (32:46):
Hey, listen. So this is what I would say to BBN. Okay,
come to this deal and bring your pom poms in
your size, because you're gonna cheer like crazy. But also
bring your notebooks because you're gonna be able to take
notes and kind of have the best insider look at
what we're doing. Like you know, Matt, I'm not a
secret guy. I'm not smart enough to have secrets. And

(33:07):
so and this this opportunity for for for BBN to
roll in there and really really get to know us
and how we do things and why we do things
and how we're trying to build this. So it's gonna
be the greatest fan experience in terms of shearing these
guys on and getting to know them. But it's also
gonna be in a sense like a coaches clinic and
like an insider dive into into who we who we

(33:29):
are as a program.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
I like that, right, that sounds that sounds very interesting.
Get to see and break it, break it down? All right, Well,
let me ask you a little bit. You know this,
There's never been a Kentucky team maybe ever where the
fans probably know less about the players going into it
than this year. So you've been around them. Tell us
on some of these players, what you're seeing, what they
play like, and how fans can kind of for some

(33:53):
of these names, what are these guys? We know their names,
But what are they like as players now that you've
worked with them?

Speaker 13 (33:59):
Yeah, so you know, you let me, I'll start with
them as people. So I could I could cite a
dozen examples, but most recently, you know, we got a
chance to kick off this school year by going to
eastern Kentucky and having a weekend of service, uh, to
the to the people in the state of Kentucky. And

(34:19):
you know, it was hard work. It was blistering hot.
It was uncomfortable guys or guys you know, uh, you know,
carrying timber and pounding nails and and uh you know,
and and doing all that a good solid day's work
in the hot sun, uh to serve. And this group,
I'm telling you there was not one guy in this

(34:41):
group that hid. There was never a word of complaint,
Like these guys were all in. It was really impressive.
As a staff, you know, experiencing that with our guys,
that's something we keep going back to. It's just like, man,
our guys are just fully invested, like they're they're just
they know work, they love work. They're about work, they're

(35:01):
about service. So when you have that as a foundation
for what a team is, it's pretty cools. And as individuals,
you know, always probably start these conversations with Lamont Butler
and Kirk Chris. You know, in some ways they're really
the head of the snake for us. Uh. And they
are they could not be more different as human beings

(35:25):
and basketball players.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (35:27):
They're great in in different ways, and they're brilliant, and
they've actually become good friends. They add different things. Lamont
Butler is is is really trying to bring a leadership
voice to this program. You know I used to You know,
he's also giving us a defensive presence that you can't overstate.
You know, this league, the SEC is full of great

(35:49):
point guards. And I'm spending exactly zero time. I sweat
about a lot of things at night, but I'm sweating zero,
exactly zero ounces of sweat are coming from my body
when I think about garden point guards in this league,
which I don't know if anybody WoT.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
I like to hear that I've heard Mark, You tell
me if I'm right that those two go at it
in practice like that is a great battle in practice.

Speaker 13 (36:13):
And and and listen, Lamont is the greatest gift to
Kirk because he just prushes the living dads on him.
And Kerr is such a talented offensive minded player that
that he's a real challenge for Lamont, like he's really
tested Lamont like, Kirk is an incredible cutter. He shoots
the lights out of the ball. He's very, very clever,
and so that matchup is super fun. And then you know,

(36:36):
Kurk got a little defensive juice to his own. He's
not really taking your ball, but he gonna end up
flopping at some point and you're gonna get offense style.
You're gonna be so pissed at him. Right He's just
as beautiful that way to kind of get under your skin.
And so you know, that's just a little, a little
glimpse into those guys right now. It's gonna be really
fun kind of at that point guard spot for sure.

Speaker 4 (36:57):
Do you look in at the rest of the team, know,
I think if outsiders would say, I suspect the leading
scorer and kind of the main off like offensive guy
will be Jackson Robinson. Do you agree with that or
are there other guys to watch in that role?

Speaker 13 (37:13):
Yeah, I mean we got guys that can score for sure.
You know Jackson, you know, Uh, we had a couple
live scrimmages against former players. Uh this summer, and and
Jackson certainly was was you know, was incredibly impressive. Uh,
he's proven his ability to score. Uh. Kobe Bray is

(37:33):
a guy that can really really fill it up, I
mean incredibly quickly.

Speaker 5 (37:38):
You know.

Speaker 13 (37:39):
Uh, Ansley Almador has been incredible making shots all summer long.
You know on our team right now as a staff,
where like we have got to get the ball to
Andrew Carr wofton. Andrew Carr actually had a stretch this
summer where he went five days of practice straight five way.
It wasn't five straight days of practice five can taking

(38:00):
the practice because we have to take days off to
the summer. He went five straight practices for he did
not miss a single feel all, not a single.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
One stop it. Then he needs to shoot board, right,
He's got a shoeball.

Speaker 13 (38:13):
So we're like, we gotta fight more ways to get
the ball in his hands. So we have a bunch
of guys that really could really have an impact scoring
the ball. And and and I didn't even talk about
Otega o way and you think about Otaga, he's probably
our most productive player all summer long. Like, so there's
a lot of places where and I haven't even mentioned
Brandon Garrison or Mary Williams, who you know as much

(38:36):
as our point guards as those two fives, they really
started to drink for us. That both those guys finished
second and third in the whole summer in terms of
assist and we got that from the two five. Man's
super cool man. It's the phone way to play the game.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
Andy Katz says that Kobe Brayan was it was his
pick for best three point shooter in the country. Kobe
Breya then saying, I'm not even the best three. What
you're on the team, Travis Perry makes more than me.
What do you think about those guys?

Speaker 13 (39:05):
Yeah, you know what, Listen, I've talked about our Kentucky
guys right now, Travis Perry and Trentonoa. They have been awesome.
I mean, I'm so proud of those two kids. They've
grown so much, and you know they kind of came
in here just excited, eager, hungry. Uh and Travis Perry

(39:26):
just has this he walks around with his confidence that
I think he's growing so much. I think he's having
fun growing and this dude's assessin so he had three
straight I've never seen this at any level in basketball.
So our guys were doing some shooting series during the
course of the summer, and he had three straight days
where he made one hundred of one hundred free Chervis

(39:48):
three straight.

Speaker 5 (39:50):
I've heard of that before. Have you ever heard of it?

Speaker 13 (39:53):
Run?

Speaker 5 (39:54):
That's crazy.

Speaker 13 (39:58):
Yeah, it's great in this TRENTONOA guy. So Trent It's
gonna be mad at me, I says. But the first
like five weeks of summer, he couldn't make a shot,
could not make a shot. I think his head was spinning.
Everything was going so fast. He had the exact consummate
rookie experience moving into this jersey and this joint and

(40:19):
then but it's been incredible to watch him start to
be like, no, I belong here, this is where I'm
supposed to be, and I'm good at this. And now
I feel like this kid can't miss the shot. He's
got physicality, super fun like.

Speaker 5 (40:33):
Those guys kids.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
Man, Yeah, I just got to a minute real quick.
Colin Chandler, we know nothing about give people a quick rundown.

Speaker 13 (40:41):
So Colin Chandler, So Colin is is you know he
took two years off. He didn't really take him off.
He went to serve for two years, right, and he
set down the ball for two years. And so with
these guys coming off two year service, their on ramp
is incredibly like it's massively and we have to go
really slow. He had he kind of got into full

(41:04):
acting that had a little setback, and he's almost fully
back and it was super fun because week's six of
our eighth week summer. All of a sudden, he was
dunking on guys and everyone's like, whoa where did this
cat come from? Right, because we had an on rent
him so slow. He is gonna be incredibly excited. He's

(41:24):
almost back to live play. We're thinking maybe next week
he won't go the full two days, but maybe next
week we'll get him some live play. With this dude,
he is going to capture the heart and soul of
BBN in a way that's gonna be incredibly special.

Speaker 5 (41:41):
This Blue White Game is Saturday, the what is it?

Speaker 4 (41:45):
The NTE eighteenth Saturday Friday, the eighteenth Friday eighteenth Club
Bluenil dot com. We'll have the tickets tomorrow at ten am.
Thirty seconds. Get the fans to show up, tell them
what they're gonna do.

Speaker 13 (41:58):
Well, listen I'll tell you that. This is all I
can say. On Friday, October eleventh, Big Blue manus we
have some things in works that have never been seen
in college basketball before. I kid you not like it's
gonna be awesome. Big Blue Man is always awesome. We're
trying to go next level and then and then and then.
This Friday, October eighteenth, this Club Blue event surrounding our

(42:23):
practice is going to be the greatest insiders lest this season.

Speaker 5 (42:28):
We got to run Mark, Thank you very much. We
appreciate it that
