Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio, Friday, September the twentieth iime
Matt Jones Here at Bywater Farms in Georgetown, Kentucky, the
adventure farm capital for of Autumn Fest here in the
Lexington area. We are here you can give us selnck
Clark's puppet shop ful nine eight five nine two eight
(00:49):
oh twenty two eighty seven a vision auto glass text
machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five
four in this edition sponsored by the tj SMID love
as you call TJIL and make them pay. It is
an absolutely beautiful day again, a week straight of beautiful days.
When we come to Bywater farms. Though we've had a
lot of different weather. We've had it actually be really
cold here before. We've had it rain here before when
(01:12):
we were outside, and today we get a new thing.
It's gonna be hot.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
If you look.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Our crowd has spread out as some of them are
in the shade. Some of them have umbrellas. I like
these folks right here sticking it out on these egg carts.
You guys, if you get through the whole thing sitting
on those, I'm gonna be very impressed. My man's getting
a sun tan here, suns out, guns out. But we
are at bywater farms where every autumn they have Autumn Fest.
(01:38):
It is what's the phrase, it's adventure. It's not venture tourism.
It's what do you call it?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Ryn, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
We thank you for being right there ready for it.
It's like fall tourism, but autumn Fest. This is their
thirtieth year. And I'm gonna give you some of the
things they have. Okay, they have a pumpkin cannon, they
have a jumping pillow, paintball shoe kids, zip lines, pumpkins
for you to carve, fudge pies, far a scary haunted house,
(02:06):
it's all there, Drew, since youd be more helpful than
Ryde just saying I don't know, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
This is actually where I get my pumpkins every year.
I was sitting here with a list for after the show,
got to get some apple butter always like coming out here.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Big pumpkin carver. Aren't you not carving? But you gotta
put them on the porch.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I haven't carved one in about thirty years, But it's
is where I load up from my getting into the
festive spirit.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Its fault we turned the fall.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
I just have one request, and I mean this, We've
been here like what three or four or the something
like that. I just really want to see this pumpkin
cannon one time. So is it possible for anybody here
that's listening, that runs this place that we can I
don't think they.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Can shoot it out here next to the road. That
would probably be dangerous wherever.
Speaker 6 (02:44):
They shoot it. I just want to see it happen
one time.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, well, well so we'll see. I bet we can
make that happen.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
For you trolley and take you out there and see
it's going.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yes. Uh so they're all here, Hey, rides and a
lot more. If you've never been to buywater farms, you should.
It's a great most. A lot of people come every
year and we here today. They give what is that
spice apple cider donuts? Yes, ye great every year. All right,
a lot of stuff to get to today, like a
ton of stuff. First of all, Jimmy Dikes is gonna
(03:13):
be here later. You know, I don't usually do a
lot of guests, but Jimmy saw the UK basketball team
practice Ryan yesterday. Very few people have seen that outside
of the inner circle and a handful of former players.
He's gonna let us know what to expect. He seemed
excited on social media about what he saw.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
And that's good that he's gonna come here because you know,
I think Tom Hart told us one time some things
that we didn't really know about this team, and I
think we'll hear that today. I think he'll probably surprise
us with some facts about maybe a guy or the
way they're playing that we weren't expecting to hear from him.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
And then uk Ohio play football tomorrow. I said to
this crowd drew before we started, I was like, I
want to hear some energy because we're gonna need that tomorrow,
and I think they did a good job. But tomorrow
at twelve forty five, Kentucky plays Ohio. We're a lot better,
but actually they're not awful. So Kentucky is going to
have to show up tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
They're gonna have to show up, you know, because of
the last two weeks. They've put a little pressure on themselves.
We're in a lot of cases this is when you
just get a win and get out of there. But
I think the offense, they don't just need to win.
They need to score several touchdowns. They need to get
some confidence in themselves, need to find themselves, need to
prove to the fans they can do it. But after
two weeks of not getting the end zone, I think
they need to be in the at least the thirties
(04:24):
tomorrow against O High.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
That's the thing for me, Shannon. I gotta see this
team score, right. I mean they scored in the first week,
but that was a weird game with the lightning and
then stop start, stop start. I haven't scored two touchdowns,
haven't scored a touchdown last two games. You gotta be
excited about the defense in the Georgia game. But I
think everybody's gonna be watching tomorrow to go. Can we
put the ball in the exit?
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Yeah, we're not concerned at all about the defense, but
on offense, there's a lot of questions. I think maybe
this is the first game where we truly get to
see what we have in Brock vandergriff.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, it's also parents weekend. Let me ask a questions,
how many of you all are going to the game tomorrow? Well,
that worries me a little bit, you know, I do.
But I was a little worried about the crowd for
the Georgia game and it ended up there, so hopefully
tomorrow does as well.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Also, need to clarify, I made an error on yesterday's show.
I gave the weather forecast and I missed it by
about thirty degrees.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
How did you do that? By app was set to Maine.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
I'm going to Maine in two weeks, so my my
weather app was still on Portland. Didn't notice that. So
if anyone wanted the weather for Portland, Maine, it's on yesterday.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Shi fifty five to sixty at degrees.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Should have caught that in real time, but you know,
live radio, and I didn't realize my my app was
still in my Why is your weather app set to Maine.
I'm just said I'm going to Maine in two weeks
during the bye week. Okay, go check out some more.
So that's that's where I got off by about thirty
degrees ninety degrees Tomorrow, I mean it could be that
it could be one of the hotter games that we've had.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
You know, sometimes that very first game will be really hot.
But tomorrow, I mean, if you want sun and you
want to have a nice day out, you're gonna have
it because it's probably gonna be toasty tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah, you said the parents weekends. I think there'll be
a you know, a decent crowd out there, and I
think people are excited again about the team. I think
it took that close game against Jordan to get us
kind of back on board with the team. So I
think the crowd probably won't be a sellout, but I
think I'll have a really good crowd.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
We won't be home for a while. It's at the
end of the homestand to start the year.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I mean, this is the only game you have to
go to the end of October for another home game,
So I mean you're basically gonna have a month where
they're they're gone. I mean they play, well, it's not
they play one game in October, they play the Vanderbilt
game and then that's it. So like, if you want to,
it's gonna be a while before you see this team
(06:34):
play at home and you know Old miss on the
road next week than a bye. So actually that's also
I think as much of a good reason to do
it as any that. I don't know how much you
all follow news, but yesterday was one of the weirder
news days and I'm I'm bringing all this up, not
even really well, not to joke about it, because they're
(06:56):
serious situations, but there's a lot happening in this state,
and I think we'd be remiss if we don't know
what happened down in in Lecher County where a sheriff
walked in to the clerks to the excuse mean to
the judges chambers in Letcher County and shot dead a
judge in Letcher County. You know, it's a it's a
(07:17):
very sad situation all the way around. There are a
lot of stories around it. I don't really want to
get into all of it because I don't know what
is and isn't true, but I do know. I had
somebody write me last night and say, both of those people,
as you would assume a sheriff and a judge, were
extremely well known in the community. Everybody knew who they were.
(07:38):
And as somebody said to me, Letcher County is absolutely
completely torn up today. And I'm sure that's true. I mean,
when you see that headline, Ryan, that is an insane
headline out of from from eastern Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
It is it's a very sad situation. You know, somebody,
somebody didn't go home last night, and violence is never
the answer, but for it to be two stellars of
the community, like apparently the sheriff is like beloved by
that community down there. So it's just it's very sad.
We need to keep those both those families in your prayers.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
You would think too, in a courthouse, that's the one
place you could feel safe.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Well in the courthouse, the one person who's allowed to
bring in a gun is the sheriff, right, So I
mean you have it's a it's a it's a it's
a wild situation. Then, uh, there's a story of a
representative in Louisville. I don't know if you saw that Shannon,
a representative in Louisville State rep allegations that he he's
(08:36):
had allegations for a while, and then he got he
got like kicked out of a strip club for inappropriate
behavior as state rep. And then you also had last
night Robert Kennedy, a reporter following Robert Kennedy's campaign, is
alleged to have had a romantic relationship with Robert Kennedy.
Both of them are married. It feels like to me
when I was at home that the world is falling
(08:57):
off its axis with weird stories. Like it's almost like
a mad Libs headline. Every single day, something stranger continues
to happen.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
I missed all those headlines except for the judge getting shot.
I was at Bourbon and Beyond Fest. But yeah, it
sounds like a lot was going on yesterday in the
world that's lost it.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
That's a lot going on, I feel like for one day.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Well, and like I guess on on TMZ or one
of these sites. Two of the top four stories involved Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
With Yeah, I feel bad for Fred and Sheila McCoy.
They deserved a lot more time in the sun. Yeah,
and unfortunately Fred and Shela McCoy got Drew taken out
of the headlines yesterday. I feel like they had another
forty eight hours of media tour that they were going
to be able to do that just completely went away.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
They didn't even do the daytime TV tour yet.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
I was just about to add that. Yeah, I was like,
they're gonna be on America.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
I still haven't gotten overroll Atlanta yet, and they're just
throwing me more and more stories, one at a time.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Please.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
I'm a new subscriber to their YouTube channel.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
I went back and watched the full video, a video
and another video or two on there, and yeah, what
kind of video. Well, he was just explaining, like, you know,
everything that happened behind the scenes, and he also what
did he say. Well, he was talking about the fact
that there was so many media outlets that were trying
to reach out and that they felt bad because they
couldn't respond to all of them, which I understood.
Speaker 6 (10:12):
Yeah, we were one of those.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Yeah, everybody with their podcast too, I'm sure. Yeah, but
it's a it's a fascinating watch for anybody who wants
to check it out.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Well, I feel bad. They should have They should have
been they should have gotten more time in the spotlight.
So but with all of that said, probably the story
that was to me the most annoying was Louisville football
coach Jeff Brown. Yesterday, Jeff Brown was doing an interview
on another radio station in which he basically said he
(10:43):
was talking about their season last year, and I think
he was maybe talking about how close they were to
get in the playoff or something. I'm not exactly sure
what the what the what the point was, but in
the process he said the phrase, you know, and then
we played a game here where somehow SEC officials didn't
find a way to call any penalties on the other team.
(11:03):
Blah blah blah, blah blah blah, essentially whining about the officials. Now,
you may remember I said this a couple weeks ago
about the debate, and I've said it about many things.
When you are complaining about the refs, what did you do?
You lost? All right? That's why when we were complaining
about the interception call against South against Georgia, whether it
(11:27):
was right or wrong, what happened. Shit, we lost. We lost.
When you complained about the refs, you lost. But for
Jeff Brohm it annoys me even more, Drew, that team,
that Louisville team was what ten and one when they
came in, am I right about that nine in two
or ten nine and two, ten and one, whatever it was.
(11:49):
We were a dog on their field. They were up
ten points in the fourth quarter, They got I think
three turnovers in the game, and they had no penalties.
But here's a little secret. We only had three penalties.
They only called three on Louisville, and two of them
were for people punching us in the face, which weren't
(12:10):
as it wasn't even disputed in dispute. So really they
only called one penalty in the game. Now, that may
be good or that may be bad, but it's not
cheating if you call one penalty the whole game on
either team, Drew. I thought when Scott Saderfield was gone
with his please don't do the hells down, that we
(12:31):
were gonna be done with these Louisville coaches whining. And
now the new one is already doing it.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
It's just that position. I guess it comes with it.
You know, it's been ten months. We're at Week four
of the college football season and he's complaining about sec
refs in that game and how Kentucky was got the
favorable whistle? Why did you kick it to barry On Brown?
What about all the turnover?
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Brown? Yeah, what about all the turnovers?
Speaker 4 (12:52):
I mean, they lost at home, fair and square at home,
and it was last season and he's talking about it
in mid September of the following year.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
It's just something with that program.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
I don't know what it is.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
And you know, everyone will tell you he's a great guy,
but he's starting to show his colors as the Louisville
head coach.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
I'm not saying he might be a great guy, but
great guys can whine, and he's a whiner. It looks
like following in the tradition of all the other whiners
they have. Everyone they get there must complain and whine.
What really makes them mad is that they can go
ten and one this year and yet when we go
into that game, yep, we can be four and seven
(13:30):
and we still think we're gonna beat him, and we
probably will still beat him, and it annoys them. There's
not anything they can do that will not make us say,
you know what, when we play you in that last game,
we are going to be I love it.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I'm so happy when I read that. I want I
want the coaches to say stuff like that. I want
the rivalry.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
You want him to whine.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
I want him to have a little spark. I wanted
him why it kind of, you know, ticked us off
a little bit where it give us fodder for our show.
I want Jeff brov of you a guy I don't like,
you know, I want him to say stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Well, I wish he wouldn't whin. I'm one thing for
trash talk, but whining is the most annoying thing. And
I've you know, say whatever you want about about Bobby Petrina,
but that dude would just come out and say, we're
gonna beat you, right, and then he might run. They've
had a string of coaches going from Chris Mack to
Sadderfield that just wine and complain all the time, and
(14:24):
I love it. I don't love it. I think it's lame.
But I also would say I think the Kentucky players
and coaches have to be like these dudes, We're already
in their head. The game hadn't even played.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
What I was about to say, rent Free.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I mean, we're in week what four, and this is
the last game of the year, and we're already talking
about Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
I mean, they're about to open up acc play Saturday,
and he's still whining about a game that happened last year.
I find that to be very hilarious. If I'm nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, we are here
at Bywaters Farms. What an absolutely gorgeous day. Great crowd
of Kentucky fans here. We'll take a break and be
right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. Here live and buywater Farms.
We got a couple up in lines eight five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. The text machine
is seven seven two seven seven four five two five
four one person rights, Matt, Uh, you're at Bywater Farms.
I love it every time I go out there. One
of the things I love they are the jokes around
on the signs. Shanan just read one, so read one
(15:29):
of the Joe. What's the joke over there?
Speaker 5 (15:30):
When does a skeleton laugh? Flip that up, Mario quick,
flip it up, flip it up, flip it up, flip
it up.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
That's not quick there you go go ahead far Wait, Wait.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
When does a skeleton laugh when someone when something tickles
his funny bone.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
When something tickles right on it. Yes, you guess that
that's a terrible joke, but it's they're good dad jokes
out here. One person rights, Matt. I would like to
tell you every UK fan I know says that UK
loses football or basketball games because of the refs every game.
You need to shut up. And this is from someone
(16:01):
that likes Louisville but still listens to your show. We
do have people that do that, Drew, and I always say,
hush now, look, it's the boy who cried Wolf. Okay,
when you say you lose every game because of refs,
when you actually lose a game because of a bad call,
I don't listen to you, right, So I think the
(16:22):
twenty seventeen North Carolina game, I'm not gonna say we
lost because of John Higgins, but he was a huge
part of that game. But you can't say every game
because if you do that, no one will ever believe you.
If you say everything is rigged, then if something is
actually rigged, no one will believe you. So Jeff Brown,
(16:46):
they did anyone watch that game and think they lost
because it was rigged. No, so when they complain, I
have no sympathy for them. Now, if Rick Patina wants
to complain because Patrick Sparks walked and they didn't call it,
all right, I get that one. But the rest of
them I don't understand.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
And complaining about the refs, that's part of being a fan.
I'm guilty of it too. But we're talking about the
head coach of the team complaining ten months later in
week four of the following season. That's what we're making
fun of here, not the actual complaining, which is still
a little funny of itself. We why is bron even
talking about this at all now? When we're in Kentucky
sports history, right?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
What is the most egregious call, however, that has cost
us a game that win against us? What is the
most can you can you think of one that you
in seven seven two seven four five two five four?
What is the most egregious one that comes out to
my mind is the shot clock violation against Wisconsin in
(17:43):
twenty fifteen where and another one is the football game
down at Florida where the play clock right ran out
and they let them, They let them do it and
then scored the touchdown. Those are the two because to me,
whether or not something's a foul is always a little
bit of a judgment call. But if the clock is
out and the shot clock goes off and the play
(18:05):
clock goes off, that to me is a like black
and white situation.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Yeah, that's the first one I thought of was the
football game down in Florida where it was obvious from
the TV replays that that clock ran out, and yet
they didn't.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
And we hadn't beaten him yet.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
That was that was before we had broken the streak,
if you remember, that was like Stoops's third year or something.
We had not broken the streak yet. So that's one.
That's two that stick out to me. Do you have
any more? I have one?
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Why he's thinking Benny Snail should have never been ejected
from the Music City Bowl and Kentucky would have won
that game.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
That's a good one. That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Yeah, I forgot about that, that's right.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
What about barely grays the ref when getting up and
he tossed him and then you know, not having Benny
on that team, that was the end of that.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Wasn't there wasn't there a Florida game or there was
a gay what's the game where they called a hold on.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
One of our offenses at home? It took him out
of field goal rate, and it took him out of
field goal range.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
And then it like it did you watched the rep
playing he didn't hold him, but like he got the call.
Can you got anymore?
Speaker 3 (19:03):
How about the the goaltending call was against LSU and basketball.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
That changed the rules. They change the rule for that.
I think that call was right, but it should like
they ended up changing the rule because of it allowed them.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
Did Laightner get teed up for stepping on was it Timberlake?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
I mean yeah, but there are people who think you
should have gotten kicked out.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
Yeah, okay, So either way you want to play it,
either he should have been.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
I mean Lightner essentially like if Lightner had just punched him. Yeah,
he's kicked out and then the game is and then
and then we win the game. But he steps on him.
I don't know, do you think stepping on someone is
as bad as punching them?
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Yeah, equally, he's laying on his back, yeah, and he
kind of stopped on his chest there.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Yeah, But then that wouldn't have become one of the
most legendary games of all time. Yeah, they don't do that,
that's true. Yeah, five nine, two eighty seven. If you
have some more times in the past we've got and
absolutely screwed. Who's up next?
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Justin?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Justin? Go ahead, justin?
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Yes, uh, I would like to see for progress this week.
I want to see Brock Vandergriff throw at least two
hundred passing yards that you need to see for progress.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah, I want to see. You know, he's got to
be given the opportunity Drew to throw for two hundred yards.
It depends on what the past plays are. But what
I want to see is we've got stud in theory
receivers out there with Dane and berry On and Macklin,
and now we've seen this Fred Ferrier kid develop. I
just want to see them use those playmakers more. And
(20:41):
I assume that's gonna be through the past, but whatever,
Like I just, I mean, we cannot just hand it
to Demi Sumo Karmbay all year and think we're gonna
be by the end. He'll be hurt if you do
that by the end of the year. Like, we've got
to use those playmakers.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Yeah, you can't just switch to an air raid overnight.
They're gonna have to use the run to set up
the pass. But the last two games, I haven't even
been able to attempt it. They haven't had the time
they will in this game, and Ohio's passing defense has
been pretty bad. Week one, they went to Syracuse, that's
the most comparable opponent, and their quarterback had three hundred
and fifty yards and four touchdowns. So if Syracuse can
do it, I don't see any reason why Kentucky can't
(21:17):
put up similar numbers.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Let's say yards over under Brock throws for two hundred over,
I'm going over.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
I would definitely go over because I think that's the
one element they proved they can run the ball. They
ran the ball, had two hundred yards against Georgia. For
crying out loud, all right, we need to make sure
the passing game. Everything about the passing game, the line,
Brock receivers, everybody has to have a good game.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
And the Southern Miss game, you know, they took four
shots consecutively down the field.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
It'd be nice to see some of that tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I'd love to see it. He's got the arm I mean,
he doesn't have like a ninety yard cannon arm, but
he's got an arm to get it downfield. You're gonna
love this. Richie Farmer is listening on streaming, and you
know when you stream, for those of you listen on stream,
it's about a minute to a minute and a half by.
He writes me and says, you've got to say, Christian
(22:04):
Lightner stomping our guy not getting and he ejected his
number one and then a minute later, I'm sorry, I'm behind.
Ritchie was in the game, and Rinchie thinks that is
the one where we got screwed the most.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
I love the fact that Chie has said he's never
watched that game, Like I think he finally sat down
just a couple of years ago, before twenty years or more,
he never was set down to rewatch that game.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Yeah. I like this one. Texas A and m Isaac Comphrey. Yeah,
oh yeah, Isaac Comphrey's getting the ball, and remember he
slams it down and then kind of loses. He wasn't
trying to slay. He was like bouncing it to himself
and then it gets away from him and they called
it technical. That was a big one. That was on
a like Saturday night primetime game.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
It would have won the game and he would have
been the star.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
He would have been the hero, and we probably would
have gotten seated higher in the tournament. That was a
loss that really hurt us in the tournament seeding as well.
That is a big one. Five nine, two eighth, twenty
two eighty seven. We'll take a break here with all
the pumpkins bywater Farms. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
He'll make them pay now.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Quarteramack Tucky Sports Radio here live at Bywater Farms in Georgetown. Tomorrow.
The game is at twelve forty five. Our pregame show
will start at eight thirty. Goes from eight thirty to
ten thirty. KS Bar is opening at nine, and we're
serving breakfast, which is not something we do a lot.
I have to say, I really like our breakfast. It's
(23:30):
what we do. I wish we did it more because
I think it's so good. So we will open so
we'll be doing the show at eight thirty. The doors
will open at nine. The shuttles start running at I
think at ten, so it'll be show eight thirty Doors
nine shuttles. Ten. Game is at twelve forty five. It's
not at twelve. It's at twelve forty five, so it's
(23:51):
a little lighter. So just keep that in mind. And
assuming we win, I'm gonna do the postgame show there
after the game. If we do not win, you will
not want to see me in public after we lose
to to OHI I think we're gonna win, so it
should be all right. A couple of people on the
raft call. One person writes, Matt, what about Auburn Benny
Snell scored a touchdown?
Speaker 4 (24:10):
They didn't give it to us? That was the COVID year.
Drew right, Chris Rodriguez or see me, yes, Chris Rodriguez.
They're on the goal one. He scores, definitely scores three
fourths of his body and the ball were in the
end zone. They don't give it to him. And then
Terry Wilson throws an interception that they took the other
way a play later.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yeah, I think that's uh. That was a big one
because that game that was the final score was like
ten to nine or something, and we would we would
that made a big difference.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Totally forgot about that one. Yeah, they took that touchdown
off the board man. That was crazy.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
He fell all the way in the end zone with
the ball. I remember Tom Hart was on the game,
and he's even on the broadcast going, how is that
not a touchdown?
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah? AF nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
here at bywater Farms. Remember this is open over the
next few weeks, all kinds of family autumn activities. You
should come out and see it. Let's talk about the
Blue White game. Tickets went on sale at ten o'clock.
It is uh. I've had a lot of people writing
about our thoughts on it. It is a six thousand
(25:08):
people having it at Memorial Coliseum. It is a fundraiser
for NIL. It is a lot different than what they've
done in the years past. It's the tickets. The lowest
price ticket is one hundred bucks. But they're gonna have
all these interactions you're gonna have. It's not it's not
gonna be on television. It's gonna be kind of a
behind the scenes. Mark Pope said, it's gonna be like
(25:29):
a practice. I think it's a really good idea. I
also understand how fans would say, man, that's a lot
of money for the Blue White Game, and I get it.
I also would say, though, this is kind of the
world we live in and with and with If you
want Kentucky to Basketball to be what you want it
to be, this is a one time event they can
(25:51):
have that actually can be a really big fundraiser. So
I think it's kind of important for the program that
it works. Do you think the fans, how do you
think it's gonna go. Do they go on set, they've
just gone on sale. Do you think we'll end up
with this being a very successful event.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I'm glad Coach Pope came on yesterday and talked about
how the things it was gonna be, like you said,
a real practice and they're gonna the coaches are gonna
be biked up. I mean, I love that part of it.
So there's a lot of things and the fans can
get up close and personal with the players. I mean,
there's a lot of positives. But I'm like you, Yesdair,
but it kept saying, Man, that's a hard, hard one
to swallow.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
Second prices steep price, no doubt, but you know it's
gonna be your first real look at this team, and
it's gonna be a competitive game. It's gonna be an
actual game, not just a dunk just on each side
as it has been in the past.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Well, I say this all the time about when we
talk about prices for things, and this has come up
a bunch over the years. I totally get it. If
somebody says like, I can't do it, you know, everybody's
got a different situation in life, I totally get it.
I think I think what I would say is if
you're somebody who wants to who thinks like I'm gonna
donate to Club Blue, Well, the way this works basically,
(26:58):
if you've been coming in Club Blue, you've essentially saved
about half the cost. So if you're going to be
a Club Blue member this you might as well do this.
But the second thing is, you know, if I think
you look at it as not everybody can be Joe
and Kelly krap right, like, not everybody can have that level,
and I mean I can't. But at the same time,
(27:22):
you've got other ways to contribute to the program, and
UK is essentially given this game. This was used to
be part of your season ticket package for people who
bought season tickets. They used to have to pay for
this game as if it was a regular game. Then
it was free for a while. And the thing about
free tickets, you learn this in the music industry. Sometimes
(27:42):
if you have free tickets, you have no tickets, almost
like it's a weird thing. People would rather pay ten
dollars than have a free ticket because people won't show
up as weird as that don't they don't value it.
There's like psychological studies about how it's better to sell
a ticket for ten dollars than to give it away
for free, because people don't value what's free, and they're like, well,
why should I come it's free? This is expensive. But
(28:06):
I also think for the basketball program, it's a good
one time way to help. I mean, they can raise
they were telling me, because some of the seats are premium,
they can raise like twenty to twenty five percent of
what they need for basketball nil four the year from
this event. And that's why I do think it's so
important to them.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
Yeah, I sympathize for people that have gone every year
on the cheap ticket and maybe can't afford this year
and it's ending tradition and they're upset because it is
a big number and it's different.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
But we talk about how you got to get creative
and we keep complimenting how Tennessee does these things to
bring in more money. I mean, this is what Club
Blue is doing here, and when we're having conversations around
like a Jasper Johnson or the next big recruit and
is our nil good enough? I mean, what they're doing
with the Blue White game, making it a fundraising event
is kind of what we're asking for to get recruiting
done and to help out. So it stinks for people
(28:56):
they can't afford it, but it's one of those things
they're just having to do it to get enough money
to keep the basketball.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Six thousand tickets. You think they'll be able to do that.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I really hope they do, but I I I'm a
little skeptical right.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Now, are you?
Speaker 8 (29:10):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Really?
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (29:12):
I think, well, all right, so they're given I think
one hundred they're gonna do one hundred and fifty to
students that will be like, they're gonna do something. I
don't know what they're gonna do, but to see who
the most passionate students are to get to go. I
think that's important. So you give a chance for students
to get you. I love that. I think they'll end up.
I think there's gonna be some that's given to local,
(29:34):
uh you know, organizations. To me, I think they'll end
up doing it. I think they'll end up being able
to do it. But I also, I mean, I listen,
I talked to him for it started. I said, this
is gonna be a tougher sale, you know, but I
think they'll be and I think the event, I'll give
this credit. I've talked to them a lot about what
they're gonna do in the event. I think it's gonna
(29:57):
be a great event.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
I think it will be.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
I do think what you can. He's really never done
anything like I think they're planning on doing that night.
Who's up next? Bob and Jamestown. Bob and Jamestown eight
five nine two eight twenty two eighty seven, Go ahead, Matt.
Speaker 9 (30:12):
I've Harry Coggle, the Laate editor of The Mountain Eagle
over there in Whitesburg, is spinning right now.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
I mean, I don't want to get into the detail.
I mean, it's very very sad. Bob and I, but
there's a lot we don't know and I don't want
to I say this with respect. I don't want to
be speculating, but it is very sad for for that
whole community all over the state. Right here in Russell
County we head over to run deputy sheriff taking out.
(30:39):
It's just I don't know, it's a.
Speaker 8 (30:43):
Crazy time we have right now with so many people
just acting out, and I don't know what had.
Speaker 9 (30:49):
To pray for our our well being in our state.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Ni Bob, there you go, it's true.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Yeah, the Russell Springs Sheriff's deputy.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
No, I mean, it's been This has been one of
the wilder weeks of news in Kentucky that I can
ever remember. I mean, just in one week, what happened
in Russell County, the representative in Louisville, what happened in
Lecher County, they find the body with Fred and Sheela,
I mean, Shannon. That's all one state. That's a lot
for in one in one week.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
That's enough for an entire year that we got in
just a few days. So yeah, it's a lot of
crazy news stories, all right.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
So we have done a really, really, really terrible job
with the KSR.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Partly, Oh, where you're going I mean, not only have
we not not only have we not hit it, we've
really every week gone one of four.
Speaker 4 (31:42):
Yeah, okay, the great leadership books will tell you set
the bar low and over it.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
One of four is we got to do better than this.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
We got so this week I'm committed to doing better. Okay,
I'm committed to making and I have one. I don't
want to pick them, but I also think think if
we're being honest, it's real all right, Tennessee at Oklahoma.
Tennessee's gonna wipe the floor with them. This is gonna
(32:11):
be a welcome to the SEC moment for Oklahoma. Tennessee's
a six point favorite. I think Tennessee is really good.
I don't think Oklahoma's very good. I don't like to
pick road teams in big games. Game day is there,
but nevertheless, I you know, it pains me to do it,
but for my pick, I'm gonna say Tennessee covers the six.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
What about you, shit, I think at this point we'd
all be better off just flipping a coin. Night to
flip a coin, then you well, I'm going to double
down on my hatred for Kansas. West Virginia is at home.
They're very two point dog or no two point favorite.
I'm gonna take West Virginia, minesty here take.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
The Mountain Mamas. Yes, all right, so you're gonna get
so got Tennessee, West Virginia. We're doing a very Appalachian
set of picks first.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Sorry, Ryan, I like both of those actually, So I'm
gonna say that he said that, Laud.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
You always say that, and you're always wrong.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
So I'm gonna go, Uh, Arkansas is at Auburn. Aubren's
a two point fair. I'm taking Arkansas Arkansas to cover. Yeah,
Bobby Petrino, I mean you did win last week.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
You were the one leg that actually hit.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
True, the only one that won last week.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Yeah, Well, you and I both were big on Auburn
this week.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
So I read a thread this morning that said, only
a sick person we bet on this game.
Speaker 6 (33:25):
So I love Okay, I love it has had vertigo.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
That I don't know if I like that one. But
all right, So we got Arkansas again, keeping with the
country theme, Arkansas, Tennessee and West Virginia. Do you got
the last one? I do.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
The most confident I've been in a bet was two
weeks ago in this parlay. I had Texas killing Michigan
and aug you were a big over that worked. You
know what, Michigan's getting killed in ann Arbor again. USC
is a four and a half point favorite. I think Michigan,
even though there are national champion, they have gotten much
worse on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
They're in trouble. They lose another one at home, all right,
because you picked one where you picked the team that
was the underdog. I think we could all just pick
the team to win and get the odds that are necessity.
So how about we just pick them to win like that.
We just picked money line of Tennessee, Arkansas, USC and
(34:20):
West Virginia. This gives it a chance to get back
on track. Let's hit.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
We gotta see one go in. You know, I'm not sure.
We gotta be makers, not shooters. That's thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Cal Uh. You stop over paying for sunglasses. Most of
these people got on sunglasses, got on shady rays. Look
at that. Yes, go to shady rays shady rays dot com.
There's one in Lexton, one in Louisville. Premium polarized shades
for every activity. They've started right here in Kentucky, and
they really have taken over uh around the country. They're
one of the fastest growing sunglasses companies in America. It
(34:53):
is Shady Rays Shady Rays dot Com. Try it for yourself.
Like these folks here, you will continue to wear it.
We'll take a break and be right. This is Kentucky
Sports Radio, Watermack. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. A lot
of energy here. I'm glad we're gonna need it tomorrow
for the game. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven cent
(35:15):
four five two five before you said, somebody gave you
another good referee, call our boy.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Billy R. Sports came up during a commercial break. He goes,
how about the game last time we were at Ole
Miss when Dane scored the touchdown, they took it away
for the illegal Oh that made you so mad. I'm
still mad about it. I can't believe they took away
that moment from Dane when won the game. Lead story
on Sports Center and an illegal formation on Barry on Brown.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
By the way, there's some people telling me that the
club blue code for the blue white tickets for the
members isn't working yet. I told the people running it,
I mean I'm just trying to help them, and I'm
sure that will get fixed. If it gets fixed, I
will let you know. So if you if you have
the code and you want to, they need to get
that working because if you're a member, you need to
(35:57):
be able to do that. If I'm nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven, big shout out to Billy
our Sports, one of only ten people left in the
KSR NFL Survivor League. Yeah, I hate it because of Night. Yeah,
don't give him, don't give me anything. I'm pulling for it.
I'm not. I'm actually pulling for the other nine. But
we have he's got he's got dan Or Lobsky, he's
(36:18):
got Slice, Vince Merrow still left, Tim Couch, Randall Cobb,
Darry Noka, Peter Burns, a lot of people. Yesterday on
Fade This, I had Billy give his personal opinion Shannon
about each person left, and he was taking shots at this.
Speaker 6 (36:34):
Yeah, okay, So what.
Speaker 5 (36:35):
Would Billy win when he wins the Survivor League other
than bragging rights.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
That's the what It'll be his thing. He'll brag about
it forever. Now you picked Tampa Bay, Is that right?
So Billy is on Tampa Bay. Who do they play Denver?
So he's got Tampa Bay trying to move.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
On with a chance he's gonna move on to another week.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Sure, Yeah, bo Nicks is struggling in different quarterback.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
I wonder if you guys wanna start up the Survivor League.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Not by a lot of football though. Philly's out. Who's
up next?
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Lee?
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Lee? How are you lead? Lee? I got it, I
understood that.
Speaker 8 (37:14):
Go ahead, all right, man, I'm gonna go way back now.
And I was at these games nineteen seventy five when we.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Lost to U C.
Speaker 7 (37:22):
L A.
Speaker 8 (37:23):
I've never seen so many bad calls at the end
of the games with John Wood and when he was blue,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Do you remember one in Do you remember one in particular?
Speaker 8 (37:32):
Yeah, Kevin Greevy went up and Jokie shot got fouled
and it would have been a three point play and
coding for charging and the guy didn't.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
He didn't even fall down.
Speaker 8 (37:42):
It was just But I was for Targy Brothers with
Jimmy dan Connor, Kevin Greevy and Jerry Hall. They said
it was the worst call game they've ever been in
in their lot.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Yeah, all right, I appreciate the I appreciate the call.
That's a lot of people think in nineteen seventy five
that the refs kind of rigged that game so that
wouldn't Uh would get a chance to win his final time.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
I've heard that for years and years and years, that
there was no way the officials were gonna let John
Wooden walk out of there losing his last game.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
No way, And he announced it like right before, right,
put the pressure on him to make sure he announced.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
It right before.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
They're starting to sell like a fan base that lost
that game. Yeah, sound like a no. Listen, I think
you did. Let me Let me notice again.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Back to my point from a couple of weeks ago
after the debate, tell me a game where we complained
about a call where we won the game exactly.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Can you remember one?
Speaker 2 (38:34):
You don't, because you only complain when you lose the game,
And unfortunately every one of these that we're doing we
lost the game. That's fair.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
But part of being a fan has been a little
off in the head sometimes finding something to blame.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
And if you're ranking them, the call that makes you
the maddest. Which one is it? For me? It's twenty
fifteen wisconsinence because I because I think I think if
they call that shot clock violation, we win that game, right,
like even the Florida game, we probably win that football game.
(39:09):
But it's not certain, right, but I think we win
that Wisconsin game, and then I would say it's probably
the Florida football game. And then after that, I think
we forget how bad that call was on Bunchie Stallings
and it it feels like Florida is the one that's
gotten us a few times. What would you say?
Speaker 4 (39:28):
I agree with yours, and it's like your point, we
have evidence. We have the screenshot of the clock saying
zero and the ball is still not being snapped or
the ball in the player's hand. Nigel Hayes, I think
there's no debate. It's not an opinion. We can see
that it was the wrong call. So those heard a
lot work.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Yeah, fouls are up for interpretation when it's black and white,
and they you know, now that doesn't happen as much
because you get replayed, but back then didn't happen. Who's next, Chris, Chris?
Go ahead, Chris hey Man.
Speaker 9 (39:56):
One question about the blue white scrimmage? Are they still
playing to have both the men and women.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
It is the men, and it is the men and women. Yes,
they're gonna I don't know exactly how they're gonna do
the the various things. I think the women will play
a game. From what I understand, they're gonna play four
quarters of basketball like for for the men. I don't
know if they're doing four for the women or not.
I to be honest with you. In between each quarter,
they'll have events that involve the fans. I think there's
(40:24):
gonna be stuff with kids where they get a chance
to like be uh, you know how Cal used to
have big donors sit on the bench. I think they'll
have kids who get to do that. I don't know.
People have asked me about autographs. I don't. I honestly
don't know because that's a lot of people. But but
I do know the women are involved, but I don't
know if it's a full game or not. Got it?
Speaker 9 (40:46):
Well, that makes it more appealing to me. I've already
looked at my tickets, and you know, being able to
see both new coaches go through and showcase their players,
I think that's a yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
But it is your it is men and women. They're
kind of combining the men's and women's and I Blue
White Game.
Speaker 9 (41:04):
Thanks A one other thing, I think that Oklahoma game
they're gonna lose. There's no way they can't beat Tennessee
because Hype Bowl he was dismissed, you know, as I
think they're co c back a few years ago and
used almost like.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
A scapegoat game.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Yes, soops.
Speaker 9 (41:19):
So I think there's a lot of bad blood there
and I think he's got something to prove coming into Normandy.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
I think they're gonna I mean, listen, I think they're
gonna crush them. I'll even go so far as to say,
if you looked, I appreciate the call. You look at
the rest of our schedule. The game I am the
least confident Inrew is Tennessee. I think Tennessee's good. I
think the way they play offense is the hardest thing
for us to defend. I think we're gonna have a
real hard time score and I could see us going
(41:44):
and beat No. Miss. I don't think we'll beat Texas,
but I could see us playing them like we played Georgia.
Have a hard time seeing us beat Tennessee with the
way they play.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
Even though Tennessee has been better than Kentucky just about
every year that I've been alive. It's been fun to
make fun of their arrogance and how they're not back.
I'm a little worried how gress they are to back
this year. They look to be one of the elite teams,
and Nico being just out of high school, they have
to get used to him.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
They got two first round picks on their defensive line.
We've already seen we can't block pass rush. That's just
gonna be a tough, tough game. We're gonna take a
break come back. Jimmy Dikes will join us in the
second hour to talk about UK basketball. This is Kentucky
Sports Radio.
