Welcome to our two hucky sports Radio presented by a
Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Now Here's Matt Jones Burger back.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (01:09):
Eight.

Speaker 7 (01:09):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
the text machine is seven seven two seven seven.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
Four five two five four.

Speaker 7 (01:16):
It is an absolutely beautiful day here at Bywater Farms,
where you can come for autumn fast, all autumn long,
Hey ride, spooky farmhouse, lost, pumpkin mind, pumpkin cannon.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
What's a jumping pillow? By the way, what does that mean?

Speaker 8 (01:31):
It's just like a bouncy ball thing the kid jump on.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
It's called a bounce house. I think a jumpy pillow.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
What's a jump?

Speaker 9 (01:37):
Is that like the blob where you jump on it
and shoot somebody in the air.

Speaker 7 (01:40):
Hey, Steve, what's a jumpy pillow? A pillow that jumps?

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Okay, jump? I don't. I don't know that that helps.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
How does it jump?

Speaker 7 (01:55):
They tell you a bounce So it's like a big
pillow that I got you so kids can bounce on it.
We can't do it all right, So jumpy pillow that's here,
along with pumpkins and more. That is uh over here
at Bywater Forarms ay five nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven. Uh one person, writes Matt I don't
think the refs screw us every game, but I do
think John cal Perry yelled at the refs so much

(02:18):
that we got worse calls because they were tired of
being screamed at.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
We talked about that the other day. Do you think
that's true?

Speaker 6 (02:24):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (02:24):
Yeah, I definitely think it's true. Might even exist with
stoops a little bit. It's a little different dynamic with
basketball where you can be in the ear of the
whole game. But I I think that was pretty clear
that cal had some some officials that were a little
tired of listen to him.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
I think there's a lot of truth to that.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
You got to keep in mind, these are human beings
you're yelling at, and I think it's only natural to go, well,
I'm gonna show him on this next call.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Yeah, did you see by the way cal Perry.

Speaker 7 (02:47):
I have a feeling this is gonna happen all year
where Cal's gonna do things that we were like, why
didn't he do that?

Speaker 5 (02:54):
Here? And go? And he so his too.

Speaker 7 (02:58):
Did you see who Arkansas's two exhibition games are against. Yeah,
Arkansas is playing exhibit exhibition games. Remember we used to
play like basically his friends schools and then a school
from Kentucky. At Arkansas, he's playing a charity exhibition game
against Kansas and one against TCU. So instead of playing
like bad teams, they're playing Kansas in front of twenty

(03:21):
thousand people in an exhibition game.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Like, I think that's a good idea, But why didn't
you do that here?

Speaker 9 (03:29):
You know, I was pretty surprised by that. That doesn't
seem like something he would normally do. Even they're in
that Thanksgiving Day classic. I thought he complained when we
played within four days of Thanksgiving, and now he's in
that marquee game on a holiday that'll have a lot
of attention around it. It's like we talked about, it
was good for him and for Kentucky. He got to
go hit reset on a bunch of things.

Speaker 7 (03:48):
And so, you know, I mean the analogy I used Ryan,
which is you break up with your wife of a
long time. Both sides decide, you know what, I can't
go out and meet the other sex looking like I do.
I gotta go get in shape, I gotta go eat right,
I gotta like get hair plugs, like I gotta go
do the whole thing. I think that's what kle did

(04:08):
like he's kind, and you know, it is what it is.
We have a younger new spouse and Mark Pope, but
he decided to go kind of get in shape.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Now we'll see if he modernizes his way of play.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I think we had a conversation on this show one
time where some of these schools were playing like these
secret scrimmage games against other big.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
School But now it doesn't have to be secret. Now
now you can play.

Speaker 7 (04:29):
So I mean, look, Arkansas is gonna play Kansas. I
don't know if the game is allowed to be on television,
but either way, everyone in college basketball is going to
pay attention to that game, Shannon, because it'll be the
very first one. It'll be John cal Perry's first time
wearing Arkansas gear. I mean, it's very smart.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
I'm not. I just don't understand why that kind of
cool thing. Why didn't we do that when he was here?
Why didn't we play Kansas in an exhibition yet?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, you know, twenty thousand people, if they parlay that
into some sort of nil situation, it's gonna be just
even better for the program.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
So you know, it's it's forward thinking and doing that.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
But you're right, he was here and we always played
like Morehouse and all these random teams that we wouldn't
love to have been in that situation. Playing Kansas in
an exhibition game, yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
I mean it is what it is.

Speaker 7 (05:13):
Now, you want to play whoever, I don't care. I mean, honestly,
I'd be fine playing north West. I mean, respectfully, these
exhibition games are fine, but you learn nothing. I'd much
prefer to play like a real game. It doesn't count,
so it'll be you know, I'd be fine with.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
Whoever you have.

Speaker 9 (05:33):
Nothing else is just a good measuring stick to get
an idea of how your team is the first couple
of times you see them. I mean, with all due
respect to your Trensy, what your pioneers.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Well, we led, but after that game, it's not like
we had a.

Speaker 9 (05:44):
Great idea of what Kentucky's identity was.

Speaker 7 (05:46):
Let's remember, with ten minutes to go in the first half,
TRANSI led the national champion team with Anthony Davis Traansy
was ahead. I have the score. I have a picture
of the scoreboard from when that from when that happened.
All right, I want to tell a story Shannon that
I think you will predict. Have you seeing the controversy
in Oklahoma at the state Fair.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
I don't think I have.

Speaker 7 (06:05):
Oklahoma State Fair every year has the stinkiest car contest
a whole lot. They go and you can bring your car,
and whoever's car smells the worst they win a new car.
So it's a big prize, right, It's called the stinky sedan.
And you know the rule is that it has to

(06:28):
be like you can't It has to be something natural
in the car. And they also say you have to
have driven in it, which means that you have to
have you come to the contest two weeks in advance,
let them get a certain whiff, and then you come
back two weeks after that.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
You have to approve you actually drive around in this car.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 7 (06:51):
Now a man enters the contest, he wins the contest
with his stinky sedan, and when it's over, the guy
in second place comes up to the the owners and says,
I saw him go to the porta party and fill
up his car before it's open. Now, I know that's gross,

(07:12):
but we have to talk about the controversy that wasn't it. Well,
he says, you don't, I didn't do that. You have
no proof and he goes, well, I didn't take a picture,
but I saw it. And now the Oklahoma Fair Board
is gonna have to decide that it's his word against
his about because he says he's the only person saw it.

(07:35):
Do you believe the guy that he he he took
from the porta potty or not.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
I believe that the guy did take from the porta partty.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
But I think even if he did, it's perfectly legal
because you said it has to be natural, and that
is one hundred percent natural.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
That is nature right there. Okay, and it interesting and
it's interesting.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
That's an interesting idea, So it is natural.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Want to use their own words against them? It has
to be natural. I think that's totally fair.

Speaker 9 (07:59):
It's gonna be your brand though he outsourced that. I
keep thinking about the judges here. At what point do
you want to get in you want to samples what
you want? At what point do you get in the
car and take a whiff and it's your six to
one in a row and you go, why am I
doing this?

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (08:12):
That's that is a good judge of what how do
you get people to judge it?

Speaker 7 (08:15):
Like I feel like, first of all, the reason that
brought it up in part is if the Kentucky State
Fair wants to do this, I've never seen a contest
more suited for Ryan Limit as a judge. Like I
feel like you would be the absolute perfect stinky sedan. Uh,
stinky sedan judge. It feels like you right in your wheelhouse.

Speaker 8 (08:33):
It is so gross, man, I'm telling you.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
If somebody who was willing to do that put take
stuff out of a port of potty, put in your car,
they deserve to win.

Speaker 8 (08:40):
If somebody's that, if you get a new car, if
you're that desperate.

Speaker 7 (08:43):
If you have a if you have a crappy car
literally and you decide and you like you can get
a new car from it, it would be than if
you're the runner up, then you just have a car.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
I have a better idea for a contest. Let's get
a stinky sedan. Put it out in the middle of
the woods and let Sheila go find it with her
nose and she would be able to sniff it out.

Speaker 9 (09:03):
She would.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
I actually like that.

Speaker 7 (09:06):
Who's up next to you, Mike, Mike, Go ahead, Mike, Mike.
This happens every year too, the trash guy. This happens
every year at this remote. The trash guy comes.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
Right now Friday morning and Friday morning that that happens
every year.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Go ahead, Mike Bus with the kids will be next.

Speaker 10 (09:29):
Hey, guys, this is Mike from Madisonville.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
Harry'all doing good.

Speaker 10 (09:33):
It's been a long time since I've been able to
call in live. It's weird hearing music because I'm usually
stuck listening to the podcast.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
So I just had a question. I want to see
if you had any.

Speaker 10 (09:42):
Stupor scuttle butt with all the Blue White game ticket talk,
is there anything about Big Blue Madness ticket talk.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
I have not heard one thing about how they're doing
Big Blue Madness.

Speaker 7 (09:52):
I have absolutely no idea, And I have to tell
you I haven't heard anything about Big Blue Madness period.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Now. I'm sure you can't.

Speaker 7 (10:01):
You know, Mark Pope said yesterday that you know, they
did have big plans for it, and I'm sure that's true.
But I have to tell you I haven't heard one
thing about distribution where it is. I don't And you
know it's coming like it's in three weeks, so I
mean it's not long from now, but I have not
heard a thing about it.

Speaker 10 (10:20):
That's what I was looking at, making a weekend out
of it, and you know, trying to double up and
go to the bandy game the next day.

Speaker 7 (10:25):
But well, they're gonna have it. I know they're gonna
I know they're gonna have it. And I'm fairly certain
it's free.

Speaker 5 (10:32):
I think it is. But as far as the details,
I honestly have no idea what they're doing. All right,
Appreciate you, guys. Appreciate to call. If I'm nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. This is really good.

Speaker 7 (10:44):
The garbage truck is literally going to drive right here,
that's right, and now he's trying to stop it. This literally,
this this scenario happens every year.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
You got anything you want?

Speaker 7 (10:53):
Every single year we have this moment where the garbage
truck drives by and there's confusion, and like, I'm glad
we're having this again.

Speaker 8 (11:00):
Who's up the Jimmy Dyke?

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Be great, Nikki, go ahead.

Speaker 11 (11:06):
Yes, thanks for taking my call. I got a question
for you, guys, and I'll.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
Try to hear you over the go. I can barely
hear you because the garbage trucks so speak up.

Speaker 11 (11:15):
Okay. In recent years in college basketball, we've seen unexpected
teams have success after adding a lot of new players. Yes,
given what we've been through the past couple of years,
suppose we make the vinal four this year, where would
you rank our team as one of the all time

(11:37):
favorites in our histories?

Speaker 5 (11:39):
Well, I got to see how they play.

Speaker 7 (11:41):
But I will say to you, I think Drew, this
fan base is going to rally around this basketball team
early as much as any now.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
To keep people interested, they're gonna have to win games.

Speaker 7 (11:52):
But I think, like we've been talking about this visa
visa Bar because one of the things that's been very
difficult for us at the Bar in the last few
years the November, December and even January games because our
team wasn't doing well. People just weren't that interested. They
really didn't start getting interested until like February. I don't
think that's gonna happen this year. I think fans are

(12:13):
very excited, and if they're winning, I agree. I think
people will like really grab onto the team. Yeah, I mean,
it's gonna last all year long, especially if it's going well.
But I think his question was if they make it
to the final four, how will they kind of, you know,
stack up against the greats. I think if Pope pass success,
there's gonna be like a Pope bonus on whatever they do.

Speaker 9 (12:31):
I agree, because it is gonna be so much more
fun to win with him than anyone else they could
have hired. I know we wanted Hurley and Scott Drew first,
and people had other names, but none of those guys.
If they get to the top, will it be as
fun to ride with them as it will Pope being
a former player, former captain, and how much he appreciates
being at UK. So if they get to the final four,
to answer this question, it will be one of the

(12:51):
ult time favorites.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
That's a great point by Pope.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
Fans want Pope to do well so much that they
kind of if he does well, there'll be an excitement
that probably you got to go back to the early
cow years to talk about how it feels.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, we are so overdue as a fan base to
be excited about our basketball program. We're starving for it,
and they're so excited right now about Pope. If they
go on this run, this whole state will explode. It'll
be like stuf we haven't seen in a long time.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
I saw a video, by the way, on TikTok from
twenty twelve when we won the National Championship and it
was ABC Nightly News the night after the National Championship
game or ABC excuse me, Good Morning America, whatever the
show is. Was live from Lexington, reporting on all the
damage that had taken place. You know, you and I

(13:42):
were in New Orleans, so I didn't really remember that,
but I didn't realize Ryan how much happened. Like they
were talking about people's how like fires and people's houses
getting destroyed, Like I didn't remember any of that.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, of course, you know, we had the burning of
the couches on State Street, but they remember they turned
the over.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
I remember the State Street.

Speaker 7 (14:01):
But they showed this row of houses that had all
been vandalized, and they talked about like I had no Shannon.
I mean, I was in New Orleans, so I wasn't
here and I just had like no memory of that.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Help me understand that mentality. We just won the title,
Let's go burn the city down, like what we You're happy,
I guess.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
I said, do you burn things when you get happy?

Speaker 7 (14:19):
But like George Stephanopholis and Katie Kurk were the anchors,
and the two of them were sitting there talking about
how wild Lexington, Kentucky had gotten the night before, and
I had absolutely no memory of that whatsoever.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
So who's up next?

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Ricky?

Speaker 5 (14:35):
Ricky, Ricky, go ahead real quick, Hey guys, first time caller?
Who are I was listening to it.

Speaker 12 (14:43):
Earlier about all time bonehead calls?

Speaker 9 (14:46):
Yes, where we have gotten robbed?

Speaker 8 (14:49):
The ninety two Duke Kentucky game?

Speaker 12 (14:52):
Christian lightmer Stump.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
Yeah, we they mentioned that one in the first hour.
Richie's still upset about it.

Speaker 7 (14:58):
So, by the way, Jack Evans appreciate the call, wrote
me and said the seventy five game was the worst
game he's ever been a part of.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
Officiator.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, people talk about that they got there was just
no way the officials will let John Wooden walk out
of there with a loss.

Speaker 7 (15:10):
So cornbredthimp dot com full spectrum flower only HEMP CBD products.
We've been talking about the blueberry breeze. How do you
think Shannon's getting through uh bourbon and beyond?

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Oh, take a couple of those, You're ready to go party,
ready to get on, Jack, Not a couple one?

Speaker 5 (15:28):
Take one.

Speaker 7 (15:29):
Don't take a couple of cornbredhimp dot Com promo codis
KSR check out thirty percent off. Great way to rest
and relax. The new Bourbon Breeze is will certainly help
you do that. It's corpredthimp dot com. This is the
good Life. We'll take a break.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Jimmy Dikes joins us right after this. This is KOSAW
work a back.

Speaker 7 (15:47):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Bywater Farms.
Great crowd of Kentucky fans. I'm gonna bring Jimmy Dikes on,
but really quick. That young man they just brought up,
he was here a year ago and got a diagnosis
while while he was here about cancer diagnosis. And it's
been one year and he's on remission and he wanted

(16:08):
to come out here because he's in remissal. That's very
very cool, and he's got to go to an appointment
right now. So Jimmy DIYX is on from ESPN. Jimmy,
thank you very much.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
Listen.

Speaker 7 (16:20):
I don't know that there's ever been a UK basketball
team that the fans know less about going into the
year than this one.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
So you've now seen him practice, what should we expect?

Speaker 13 (16:34):
Yeah, I was in the same boat yesterday, Matt I
walked in and got a roster in front of me
and start figuring out who was who, And they started
looking at the notes that I had.

Speaker 12 (16:42):
Made before I got the practice. But uh, just I
think you had coach on earlier breaking down the individual players.
I know he did a great job for that.

Speaker 13 (16:52):
My overall impression was they are going to be very aggressive,
They're gonna play fast.

Speaker 12 (16:59):
He has a shoot at every position on the floor.

Speaker 13 (17:03):
A very positive, encouraging, thoughtful practice is what I saw
from him.

Speaker 12 (17:09):
He does a great job of asking this guy's questions,
forcing them to speak up, forcing them to take leadership.
I loved his staff how much they interacted in practice.

Speaker 13 (17:19):
They were five six guys on the floor coaching all
the time, every possession. It's it's it's a new system,
a new style. It's a new day for Kentucky basketball.
And I'm sure you guys are aware of the first
thing I noticed when I walked into practice facility. All
those individual banners are down. The only thing left on
the wall is the National Championships.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
Oh what's that?

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Right?

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Tell you?

Speaker 12 (17:43):
That's that's the standard. That's the standard.

Speaker 9 (17:45):
That's interesting.

Speaker 12 (17:46):
It's about hanging those banners. So yeah, it's a new
day for Kentucky, right.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
That's a that's a really interesting thing. So they took
away all the individual pictures and do the team. Well,
that's a very Mark Pope thing.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
I listen.

Speaker 7 (17:58):
I think I love his style, I love his energy.
My only question about the team this year really is
the talent. So tell me about the talent.

Speaker 12 (18:09):
Well, yeah, I think they're you know, Matt he did.

Speaker 13 (18:14):
He did a great job of identifying guys that fit
how he plays.

Speaker 12 (18:18):
Okay, so analytics and and.

Speaker 13 (18:22):
What the guy did in the previous school might not
be eye popping and catch your attention like maybe some
other Kentucky teams have in.

Speaker 12 (18:29):
The past, but they fit how this guy plays. I know,
it's just a practice.

Speaker 13 (18:34):
Yesterday they only went up and down for maybe ten
or twelve minutes total of five on five. Mind telling you,
they were making shot after shot after shot, and it
was a you know, Kentucky eleven nation and three point
for Sunday's. Last year, they were a very good three
point shooting team, but they didn't shoot the volume that
this that this system is gonna gonna gonna demand and allow.

(18:57):
So I think there's there's no a non shooter on
the floor from what I can see. I want I
want to see more driving of the ball, because you
guys know basketball very well.

Speaker 12 (19:08):
In that state, if you only have a team full
of shooters, you can get covered up. Well, you've got
to have guys who can drive it for the defense
to rotate. Now, those shooters get open. So I want
to see more of that from Otega.

Speaker 13 (19:20):
Away and Lamont Butler probably the two primary guys getting downhill.
But they're capable, and it's a it's a system that
here's I guess some big picture thoughts in my notebook
I'm looking at right now.

Speaker 12 (19:34):
Can they score check? Yes? Can they get stopped? Question? Mark,
I don't know. That's where they are right now in
my eyes.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
Yeah, well all right, so.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
If we make it a scale, Caliperry used to say
his view was, give me the most talent, and I'll
overwhelm and beat most teams. That's kind of the simple
version of how he sort of would build a roster
if you were to sort of I'm aright, what you
think Mark Pope's building of a roster is?

Speaker 5 (20:03):
What do you think it is?

Speaker 13 (20:07):
It's a high, high premium on guys that want to
play for Kentucky and they understand what that program's about
the best they can for eighteen nineteen twenty one, twenty
two year old kid. Now, Does Trent Noa understand that absolutely?

(20:27):
Does Travis Perry understand that?

Speaker 12 (20:28):
Absolutely?

Speaker 13 (20:29):
But I think he brought in guys and is very
clear about the Kentucky standard under him, and what's it
supposed to look.

Speaker 12 (20:35):
Like in play Like do they have one done talent?

Speaker 13 (20:39):
No? Do they have a bunch of a collection of
older guys multiple thousand point scores, guys that have won
at the high level, guys are going to buy in
and collectively become a real problem to play against in
the SEC. I think so right away from year one
they are going to be a major factor under Mark Pope.

Speaker 12 (21:00):
I know you guys know this. I'm a big calitary
fan goody in front of him.

Speaker 13 (21:05):
But but but Kentucky's they they've just won one in
C double a tournament.

Speaker 12 (21:11):
Game in the past four years.

Speaker 13 (21:13):
So Mark, Mark knows where the bar is set, and
it's from that, It's it's from year one one.

Speaker 12 (21:19):
I think Mark knows.

Speaker 13 (21:20):
I'm gonna win right now, and I'm expected to win
right now, and I think you have a roster.

Speaker 7 (21:24):
To do it all right, So this may be as
deep a SEC, certainly at the top as I can remember,
in terms of how many really good teams will be there. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee.
You can tell me if there's one or two more
you'd put in that group. Is Kentucky in that group, Matt?

Speaker 12 (21:42):
They are? This league starts off.

Speaker 13 (21:46):
I think projecting ten n C Double A Tournament teams,
it could it could climb to eleven, it could drop
to nine, but I think you're somewhere in that nine
ten eleven. I think I think Alabama from my studies
that I've done, and I studied the world of college basketball,
not just the SEC, I think there's a strong case
for Alabama to be the preseason number one team and

(22:10):
right there in that top twenty five. The SEC is
going to probably start with six or seventeen, which is
can be the most.

Speaker 12 (22:16):
Out of any conference out there.

Speaker 13 (22:18):
Kentucky's going to be right there, borderline in that top
twenty five. But this league is deeper than it's ever been,
and it has potential of two or three or four
serious Final Four threats. But my eyes go to Alabama
right now getting the nod. I've seen Tennessee practice, I
think they're right there behind them.

Speaker 12 (22:39):
I've seen I've seen Arkansas practice.

Speaker 13 (22:40):
Cal has a loaded up team, very very similar to
what his teams look like at Kentucky. They just say
Arkansas now the jersey instead of Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
Thirty seconds really quick. You've been here, you know what
it's like here.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
Do you think in five years we'll look back and
say Mark Pope was the right hire at the time.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
No doubt.

Speaker 12 (22:59):
Mark.

Speaker 13 (23:00):
Let me speak to a seam yesterday for just a
few minutes afterwards, and I told them I've coached here.
I've been all across the country in college basketball.

Speaker 12 (23:07):
There's no place like Kentucky.

Speaker 13 (23:10):
And Mark Poche knows that his here eat and how
smart he is, all the things that I see his
staff included, Matt, I think in five.

Speaker 12 (23:19):
Years you're gonna say, wow, Mitch Barnhart knew.

Speaker 13 (23:22):
Exactly what he was doing when he drove that guy
in on a bus and rupp Arena to introduce me.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
Love it.

Speaker 7 (23:27):
Thank you very much, Jimmy Dike, ESPN, great job, appreciate it.
We'll take a break, be right back. This is Kentucky
Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

Speaker 9 (23:36):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio, present it by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. Here at Bywater Farms.

Speaker 7 (23:45):

And they'll be open for the next few weeks. And
it is it is a hot day, gonna be a
hot day tomorrow. Remember the bar opens at nine am.
Our radio show starts at eight thirty for the game.

(24:07):
Shuttles will start going at ten. It's Parents Weekend be
open tonight as well. Book of Mormon plays here in
Lexington for the weekend. If you listen to Fade this
Drew and I've been singing the songs.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Get in there.

Speaker 9 (24:18):
I'll be stuck going ahead for a couple of months. Yes,
I will be there trying to sneak in.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
I'm not gonna lie. I do enjoy that a lot
eight nine twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 7 (24:26):
One person writes, Matt, you asked those guys what their
irrational confidence was like, Billy, But you didn't answer yourself,
what is yours? I probably think I'm a better dancer
than I am, Like I'm an okay dancer, but I
actually think i'm good, and so that's probably the one

(24:47):
like with Billy where I have irrational confidence, but you
are a.

Speaker 8 (24:50):
Pretty good dancer.

Speaker 7 (24:51):
Yeah, but I'm not as good as I think I am.
Like I'm not to the point where like I should
be doing it with strangers.

Speaker 8 (24:56):
How about a singer you like to sing?

Speaker 7 (24:58):
Yeah, I know I'm not very good good at that.
I like to do it, but I know, you know,
I've been with my parents really can sing, So I
know what that sounds like.

Speaker 9 (25:06):
We all remember that random Thursday you thought you were
an Olympic sprinter and try to challenge everyone in your
vicinity to erase it.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
That's true. Ambient Matt has Billy.

Speaker 9 (25:16):
Confidence about everything.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
By the way that I went back and listened to
that show a couple of weeks ago, why didn't y'all
tell me I sounded ridiculous during that?

Speaker 8 (25:25):
It was fun Drew and I had during a commercial break,
We're like, he's on one day today?

Speaker 4 (25:30):
What was I mean?

Speaker 5 (25:31):
For people who don't remember what happened?

Speaker 7 (25:34):
I had just gotten a new subscription to Ambient that
had accidentally put that pill box or that pill bottle
where my uh, where my blood pressure pill is right,
And so I in the morning take of blood pressure,
and I accidentally took the Ambient pill. And if and
for people who have amy and if you don't fall asleep,

(25:57):
then you kind of hit a different thing. And of
course I was I was like, man, I'm really tired,
but we got to do this show. And then I
ended up challenging everyone at the restaurant to a race.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
YEP, that was a good moment. I knew something was
up right away because normally every day you will say
at least something to me. That day, you didn't say
a word before we started the show, not one piece.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
I don't remember what day it is.

Speaker 7 (26:23):
You need to play it on a best of one
day because it is objectively kind of ridiculous. Hey, let
me let's quickly talk about what Jimmy Dyke said there
a second ago. So for people who don't know what
the practice gym looked like under cow So they got
that new practice facility and and cal had it to where.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
I think the national championship banners were up there.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
They were, but there were also basically every player he
had that was in the n b A a picture
of them was in the practice facility like a big poster.
So sometime it would be like if a guy got
out of the NBA, they take him down and it
would be awkward, and then they would put somebody new up.
But there was and when players came. I think Col's

(27:11):
philosophy was look at all these dudes you watch in
the NBA and they were all on this floor.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
That was his philosophy.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
I know there were players who, while they understood it,
were like, well, if you don't play in the NBA,
you don't make it right. Mark Pope has now, according
to Jimmy, taken all of those down and the only
thing up are the National Championship banners. And somebody texted
me and said he actually made him bigger, so that

(27:41):
now what is there is we win titles. I don't
think either one of those Shinnon is wrong, but it
is a completely different philosophy and probably more in tune
with what most UK fans would want it to.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Be focus on team.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
I wonder if also some of that is the fact
that those guys were halla Perry players under his think.

Speaker 5 (28:03):
So I don't think he. I don't think Pope would
be like, well what I will say.

Speaker 7 (28:08):
It did frustrate me sometimes that Cal acted like if
they didn't play for him and were in the NBA,
like like like Jody Meeks or Tayshaun Prince or guys. Yeah,
like he wouldn't. He didn't when he first got here.
We had guys in the NBA that had played for
other people and they weren't up sometimes.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
But Pope gets it like, we don't care how many
guys are playing in the NBA. We just count championships
as a fan base. And he gets that it's all
you think.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
That was my biggest takeaway of what Jimmy said that
he took that down because you know, the old regime
said it was a player's first program. Well, now Pope
has come in, it's a team first program. You mentioned
about being in his office. None of the accolades and
stuff are up on the walls like he used to
be there. You know, it's all about winning, getting them
championship banners, that's what you hang up in those Yeah.

Speaker 7 (28:54):
I mean again, to use Cow's office as an example,
if you went into Cow's office and again I'm not criticized.

Speaker 5 (29:01):
I get it. His office was kind of a.

Speaker 7 (29:03):
Shrine to all of his wins at various places, right,
So it was his wins at UMass, his wins at Memphis,
his wins at Kentucky. There were player posters, but it
was like there was one of Marcus Camby, and there
was one of Derrick Rose, and then there was one
of John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson, Anthony Davis.
Now you go in there, it's all just pictures of

(29:24):
UK and then there's one on his desk, him and
his family, Mark Pope.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
It is just a different thing.

Speaker 9 (29:30):
Yeah, I won't just change my opinion be critical of
the way Cal was doing it because I thought it
was cool to walk in that place and not just
the practice facility where they had the cards. Kind of
looked to my childhood bedroom. Just NBA posters everywhere, but
even that mural where you're like, wow, we have twenty
nine people in the NBA and.

Speaker 5 (29:45):
It was an impressive mirror.

Speaker 9 (29:46):
Yeah, so I'm not just considered a trashy here. It
was working for what Cal was doing. I'm sure it
will be eventually, but I know Pope went in pretty
quickly and got the posters off the wall to get it. Say, hey,
this is Kentucky. Love those guys. He's even reached out
some of them personally, the same Relationshi it's with them.
Is just saying we're not gonna make that part of
this facility.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
I'm not I agree with you.

Speaker 7 (30:04):
I'm not saying Cow's philosophy was wrong. His belief was
sell the players, you get more players, and I don't
think that's wrong, but it is interesting. It will be
a completely different sales philosophy with this one. And and
we'll see what happens on the floor. Who's up next, Joseph, Joseph,
go ahead, Joseph.

Speaker 12 (30:22):
Hey, Matt, you know the way we played it versus Georgia.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
Talking to the phone, Joseph talking the phone. I can't
hear you. It's underwater.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
The way weh there you go.

Speaker 7 (30:34):
Right, So let's play let's play a lesson again. Hang on, Joseph,
No speaker phone, no bluetooth. Joseph, You've called a lot.

Speaker 5 (30:42):
You know that. Now, go ahead.

Speaker 14 (30:44):
The way we played versus Georgia.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
Okay, you went back Underwalter. All right, well we played
against Georgia.

Speaker 12 (30:52):
Go ahead, Uh, I think they deserve to wed. Uh,
we can never get the break. We can still have opportunity.
You still think.

Speaker 5 (31:05):
Can we go eight and for? No? Probably not. I
think we can go seven and five.

Speaker 7 (31:13):
I mean I think we definitely And you know, you'd
have to beat Old Miss, Texas or Tennessee to go
eight and four. I don't necessarily I think we got
a shot against Old Miss, but I don't necessarily think
we will. So I'll say I'd be very surprised, uh
Drew if they win eight and four.

Speaker 9 (31:26):
Yeah, I think you'd have to beat All Miss, as
you just said for that to happen. Winning at Texas
and Tennessee they look pretty strong this year. I think
of the three All Misses your shot and then you
can have that eight and four dream.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah, because now he looks like you think you can
win that game at Florida. That's a that's a very
winnable game. Now Auburn and Home, that's a very winnable game, yew.
So to get that, you gotta beat somebody you're not
supposed to beat. Who is that you think they can the.

Speaker 8 (31:48):
Best chance to do that?

Speaker 7 (31:51):
I mean Old Miss is the best chance of the
of the teams and you're catching them. I mean, they
really haven't played a tough game yet, Shannon, So you're
gonna be there front. We've played two tough games. They
really haven't played one yet. We're going to kind of
be their first one. So that's how you get That's
how you have a shot.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
If they play the way they get dead against Georgia
last week. I feel good against any team. I mean,
you just played the pre you do I do. I
mean I picked them to beat Tennessee before we started
the season. I don't feel as good about that now,
but I think they'll at least give them a good
game in that one.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
Yeah. No, who's up next?

Speaker 12 (32:20):
Blake?

Speaker 5 (32:21):
Blake.

Speaker 7 (32:21):
By the way, they just asked me to do the
official pregame and halftime show on the SEC.

Speaker 8 (32:27):
Network this weekend.

Speaker 5 (32:29):
Yeah, for the UK game. They got to do that, right, Yeah? Yes,
you know a lot about a hut and I'm gonna
have to shower and all kinds of stuff.

Speaker 6 (32:38):
All right, go ahead, Hey, how are y'all?

Speaker 5 (32:41):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 6 (32:43):
Hey, I just want to let you guys know.

Speaker 5 (32:44):
They're in Lexington, by the way. The the I guess
they're the pre game and post like the SEC now
show is in Lexington this weekend. I'm not sure why,
but they are, but go ahead.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
I just know that I saw post on Instagra the
other day. Wright State Baseball is playing against Kentucky at
Prasco Park and Cincinnati on October six. Is like a
fall ex fishing game. So there's anybody in the southern
Ohio northern Kentucky area wants to watch Kentucky baseball. They're
playing at the Cincinnati at Presco Park. So I'm looking
forward to another.

Speaker 5 (33:17):
Wait, what day is that and what day is that
it's on?

Speaker 6 (33:21):
It's on October six.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
October six, All right, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
That was it.

Speaker 6 (33:27):
I was just looking question looking Tucky football game.

Speaker 9 (33:30):
This weekend and.

Speaker 7 (33:32):
All right, appreciate it. Eight five nine two oh twenty
two eighty seven. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 8 (33:37):
Stockton Mortgage. I told the story.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
A guy last weekend hit me up, said hey, man,
I need a Stockton mortgage guy that helps me in Louisville.
Hooked him up representative, and now they're on their way.
So they're they're the number one mortgage lender in the
state of Kentucky. Call me and you'll find out why
Stockton Mortgage in MLS A two five nine Equal Housing
Lender MLS keep Consumer Access Dot.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Yeah, We'll take a break and be right back.

Speaker 7 (33:58):
This is Kentucky Sports Right quarter Back final segment Here
Kentucky Sports Radio Live in Georgetown by water Farms. Beautiful day.
Thanks to all the folks who have come out. Enjoyed
a nice day here at the thirtieth anniversary of Autumn Fist.
It's one of the great little jewels in central Kentucky

(34:20):
and they bring us out every year. We very much
appreciate it. Shannon, you will be at Bourbon and beyond
all weekend.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
Yeah. How was night one? I heard Sting put everyone
to sleep.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
I didn't stay for Sting. I had to go to
OPW so I left a little bit early. But the
wallflowers were great. Yeah, I thought they were excellent.

Speaker 5 (34:36):
Wow, one headlight.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
It was really hot out there and it's going to
be hot all weekend long.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
So who's tonight? I know, Zach Bryan is Saturday.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
Dave Matthews.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
Dave Matthews is tonight. Yeah. You like Dave Matthews.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I do.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
I've never seen him live before, so I'm looking forward
to that. Normally, I won't stay if I don't like
the headliner.

Speaker 5 (34:54):
But I've seen him.

Speaker 7 (34:55):
When he plays, his shoulders will go up in the
air like this, and he'll make a little face and
you you'll enjoy it.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
I think you like Todashy Truck's band, don't you.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
I don't know what that is.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
No, No, I thought we went to see that band.
Who to Dashy Truck's band?

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Where did we see that?

Speaker 4 (35:09):
I've heard about this band through you.

Speaker 5 (35:11):
I don't think that's true.

Speaker 4 (35:12):
That is true.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
We went to see it at the Lexington, not the
Opera House. What's the Lexington Concert?

Speaker 11 (35:18):
No?

Speaker 5 (35:19):
Girl? Yeah, you know? You and I went and saw
the guy, the country singer. What's his name is?

Speaker 4 (35:26):
Manchester Musican Chris Knight.

Speaker 5 (35:28):
We went and saw Chris Knight.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Didn't I go see Chris Knight with you?

Speaker 8 (35:31):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (35:31):
Maybe?

Speaker 12 (35:31):
No?

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Yeah, you told me that you really liked to Dashy
Truck's band. I remember that they are. I don't think
I know who that is?

Speaker 5 (35:41):
All right?

Speaker 7 (35:41):
Well, either way, they're playing tonight, Okay, Zack Bryan is
playing Saturday.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Did you see Drew the Zach Brian Taylor Swift Beef? No,
fill me in on it. Zack Bryan was probably am
being tweeting the other night.

Speaker 9 (35:55):
He's a bad tweeter.

Speaker 7 (35:56):
He does that, and he got up really late at
night and he tweeted Eagles greater than in chiefs, Kanye
greater than Taylor.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
Dude, you don't want to mess with the Swifties.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
You don't want to do this.

Speaker 7 (36:07):
So the Swifties come at him, which is weird because
they probably have similar fan bases. Right, Swifties come at him.
He deletes his Twitter account, deletes his Twitter account, then
writes a three page apology on Instagram where he basically says, sorry,
I'm going through a tough time in my life and

(36:27):
I was up tweeting too late. I love Taylor swift
She's awesome. Please forget three pages of apology now. His
first public appearance since going after the Swifties is Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
He doubles down and goes, I hate Swifties.

Speaker 5 (36:45):
I don't think he's gonna do that.

Speaker 7 (36:47):
He's already apologized, but I know you like z Brian,
but he's a prised.

Speaker 9 (36:52):
He deletes his Instagram or Twitter about once a month.
He's a little, uh, I don't know, little juvenile kind
of It's like he seeks out a fight like you're
saying in this and then just deletes everything and apologizes
a day later. I like his music, but on social
media he's done this.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
I used to do that though.

Speaker 7 (37:08):
Sometimes I would tweet something angrily and then Win go,
oh why did I say that?

Speaker 5 (37:13):
Ryan?

Speaker 7 (37:13):
And then I'll delete it. So I understand a little bit.
I just wouldn't go after Taylor Swift. That's like one
person I'd just let have her thing.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
We've talked about this, man, public figures. Sometimes maybe you
need to save that as a draft and maybe go
back and read it just five minutes later before you
hit sin and put it out.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
Just don't understand, Like I'm going through a tough time
in life. I know, let's pick on Taylor Swift.

Speaker 9 (37:32):
Not a great time to be on Kanye's team. Yeah,
just thought you went against Taylor. It's like in that side.

Speaker 5 (37:37):
I mean, it's like saying I'm puff Daddy's my favorite.
That's like he said. I don't know, man, I don't
know if that's what I would do.

Speaker 9 (37:44):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (37:44):
And then Sunday it's Tyler Childers. I'm trying to decide
whether or not I'm gonna get the energy to go
out there.

Speaker 5 (37:49):
Will you be there for that.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
If I go, I'll probably be over it by then.
But okay, he's the last one people are playing there,
like on Saturday night. I would say, well, that's why
I might go is hopefully people have cleared out. I'll
have a little bit of space.

Speaker 9 (38:01):
You three people are going to go to Tyler Childers.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
I mean, I think a lot of people will go,
but maybe some people will not. Who's up next, Kentucky
Long Hair. Hello, Kentucky Long Hair.

Speaker 12 (38:11):
Good morning, gentlemen.

Speaker 5 (38:13):
Good morning. Uh.

Speaker 14 (38:16):
Since one of your previous scholars took my question about
Big Blue Madness, I'd like to ask you about your
parking strategy game.

Speaker 7 (38:29):
That's a great question. We are trying to work something
out for that, but I don't know for sure. I
would say to you, if you're going to the Blue
White Game, or if you're going to any event at
Memorial Coliseum this year, the women's basketball game, women's volleyball gymnastics,
just don't even try to park over there. Like, don't
even try unless you have a pass. I don't mean

(38:52):
to like toot my own horn. But k S Bar's
parking lot is free and very walkable. There's a garage
that's just from there on. Well, it used to be
Kennedy's bookstore is now a parking garage. That's now a
parking garage, but you have to pay there, So you
could pay at that parking garage there what used to
be kenny Bookstore or the cass bar lot is actually free,

(39:16):
and you know a few blocks more. I think those
are your best options. I would not get anywhere close
to Memorial.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
Unless you have a pass.

Speaker 12 (39:25):
Do you have any.

Speaker 7 (39:29):
I don't, But it's not gonna be cheap, I bet,
to be honest with you, but but I don't think
it'll be ridiculous. It'll probably be like fifteen dollars or
something like that.

Speaker 14 (39:38):
I got one more question when I when I was
getting my trying to get my teams.

Speaker 9 (39:46):
Win directly from my.

Speaker 7 (39:52):
Yes, yeah, I've heard that they're that. Yeah, I heard
that there's some kind of problem with the code or whatever.
So if you'll watch my Twitter when they tell me
that's fixed, I'll let you know. But apparently probably wasn't
the best timing for that code to go down right

(40:12):
when you put the tickets on sale.

Speaker 5 (40:13):
But i'll let you know.

Speaker 12 (40:16):
Well, well, my wife to her.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
That I don't know you'll have to call them. I don't.
I don't handle those, but but but I wish you
the best. Appreciate the call.

Speaker 7 (40:33):
Yeah, so we're hoping to try to get something where
people can get back and forth from it.

Speaker 5 (40:38):
I'm not sure, you know.

Speaker 9 (40:39):
We'll see hang up in with me link up before
the game.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
He'll take them. That's nice of you. Who's up next? Oh?

Speaker 7 (40:47):
Okay, if I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
let's make some predictions here. Let's do our predictions for
the game. The Kentucky State Chamber of Commerce, by the way,
says uh hello to all the Kentuckians, and they're wants
to talk about the impact of housing. Go to ky
Chamber dot com slash housing to learn all about the
impact of housing across the state of Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (41:07):
Housing's good, Shannon, I think you know that.

Speaker 7 (41:09):
Yes, Kwychamber dot com slash housing to learn more from
the Kentucky Chamber, Kentucky and Ohio. What's spread twenty last
check to twenty twenty cats are twenty point favorite. Game
starts at twelve forty five on the SEC network. Right,
I'll let you go first, give me can't pick Dan
and Key, give me your score and your MVP.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
I'll go Kentucky thirty one to seven. I think the
defense just shuts him down most of all the game.
And if I gotta go first, then if I can't
take Dane, I'm taking Brock Vandergriff. He's gonna have his
coming out party for Kentucky Wildcat.

Speaker 5 (41:39):
All right, Brian Vandergriff, Shannon.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
I'll say the Cats went big. They get a lot
of tuddies. Thirty five fourteen Kentucky. I'll take barry On Brown.

Speaker 5 (41:48):
Give thirty five fourteen, all right, Barry On Brown, Drew Ohio.

Speaker 9 (41:52):
They rely on the run. He's very good, he's a
national leader and a lot of stats. But he's about
to run into Kentucky. They will struggle to score while
Vandergriff has a big day. I'll say thirty eight to six.
I'll say if Dane Key catches two of his passes,
I think it's gonna be.

Speaker 7 (42:10):
A little bit of a slog at the beginning with
teams just kind of going back and forth.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
I think Mark Stoops nature.

Speaker 7 (42:15):
Is gonna try to be to do what they do
best and kind of get it on the ground first,
to get a little bit of a lead, so I
think it'll go slow. I think it'll probably be like
ten to three at halftime. But then I think in
the second half we start to put more points on
the board. I'm gonna say Cats win thirty one to six,
but it'll be a second half big performance, not a

(42:36):
first half big performance. And I'm gonna go de On Walker.
This is gonna be a game. They can double team him,
it's not gonna matter. They Ohio does not have anyone
that can block Deon Walker, and he will absolutely eat
the entire game. Thanks to all of you here at
by Wire Farms, folks who own it, and also many
of you came out. We will see you eight thirty
tomorrow at the bar for the pregame show. This has
