All right, Welcome in this Wednesday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. Wednesday,
November the sixth. We just heard the sirens in downtown
Lexington because they do it the first.

Speaker 4 (00:43):

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Ryan Leman, Drew Franklin, Matt Jones will be here shortly.
You know, we all have lived on the west side
of Lexington and we've all been stuck by that train
on ford Row. Forbes will get you got Matt this morning.
That train on ford Row guid in this morning, so
he'll be here just a little bit. Of course, every
episode of a Texsports Rail sponsor by the t J. Smith Off.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
It's called TJ. What's you do, Shannon? He'll make them pay.
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
You give us a call and the Clark's pumpingsh out
phone line eight five nine two eight zero two two
eight seven the Avision Glass text machine seven seven two
seven to seven four five two five four, and we'll
have our whiskey thief call the day later today. So
so while we're waiting on Matt to get here, to
break down what happened yesterday in the world. Uh, I
got a call that said Frederick Douglass had to send

(01:28):
an ambulance to the polling place because somebody knocked himself
out running into a poll.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Well, you're gonna call me out already. I had an
adventure at the polling place. I don't know why they
put that column there, but uh, when I was voting yesterday,
I'm focused.

Speaker 6 (01:40):
Ryan.

Speaker 7 (01:40):
You know, we got all these amendments. There's three of them.
That's a lot of amendments. Mimics keep straight.

Speaker 6 (01:44):
That's after I had to get through all the people.
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
I uh, I turned and walked straight into a pole
and hit my face.

Speaker 6 (01:51):
It was very loud. My wife was on the other
end of the gym. She heard it. It startled the
people around me. It shook the.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Booths, shook the whole building. I think I was pretty embarrassed.
Did you have to wait very long?

Speaker 6 (02:04):
No?

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Actually I got very lucky. I saw some pictures of
long lines and I went at lunch. I was like,
it is what it is. I'm just gonna go. Not
many people there, but uh, there is I did. I
did make my presence known at the polls.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yest Way ladies, you know, welcome to Matt Jones.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
Sorry about that. Let me just say before we get started.
I don't like trains. Don't like them. They get they
stopped that what is what you say?

Speaker 7 (02:30):
That depot is called over Forbes Forbes that that the
train just goes it like goes one direction, that goes
back the other and then back.

Speaker 6 (02:38):
I was sitting there for fifteen minutes. What are they
doing over there?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well, I don't know this, but at that the Corman
train depot over there, I think they can leave load up,
then they have to back out and go down another
area to load up some more something else. So that's
why it goes back and forth.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
I don't like that.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
Yes, it took forever during that time. So let me
get situated here, can we we're gonna Can we take
an early break, Shannon? Then we will all twenty sec.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
All right, twenty seconds?

Speaker 7 (03:05):
Then we won't do that, all right, So we're first
of all, welcome everybody here.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
Did you do the Clark's pumpings up thing?

Speaker 7 (03:10):
I tried to go over Clark's pumping up phone lines
eight five nine to twenty two eighty seven, A vision
Auto glass text machine seven seven two four five two
five four In this distion sponsored by the t J.
Smith Love is called Tj'll Make Them Pay. Uh, it's
good to see you guys.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Well, come in.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
I had to drive from Louisville today, but I got here.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
We talked about we've all been living on the west
side of Lexton and that train track has got us
all at some.

Speaker 6 (03:32):
Point it has.

Speaker 7 (03:33):
But uh, I guess the big news today we have
a new president or we will and it's the same
as the old president, Donald Trump wins yesterday.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
Can I go through my day with you? Yes?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Anxious to hear how you?

Speaker 6 (03:46):
So I was in Louisville.

Speaker 7 (03:48):
And went, uh, it was like you know, I watched
the Champions League.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
All right.

Speaker 7 (03:55):
Then I went in eight, and then it was time.
I decided, I'm not gonna sit and watch election results.
I'm gonna go to the movie.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
A movie.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
And not only that, am I not gonna go to
the movies. I'm gonna go to two movies, one at
seven and one at nine forty A. Right, So I
went at seven and I went and saw Saturday Night.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
How was it?

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Eh, it's all.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
Right, it's a lot, but I like it.

Speaker 7 (04:18):
Watch it if it's on Amazon or something, Okay, I
don't think you need to watch it, uh, nor it's okay.
But then I decided I had like an hour between
the two movies. I walked back to my house, got
on my phone, and within this is now like eight
forty within two or three.

Speaker 6 (04:36):
Minutes, it was clear to me who had won. You
could just tell when you when you looked.

Speaker 7 (04:40):
There were a couple of things I wanted to see,
and you could just tell, especially in the Virginia things,
because like, she wasn't doing as well and the suburbs
as Biden did. She wasn't doing as well in the
African American areas as Biden did.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
And I was like she's losing.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (04:55):
So I went back to the movies for Conclave, and
I was like, well, Donald Trump's gonna be president. But
you know how you then get to a point where
you're just like, okay, I mean that's the way it's
gonna be.

Speaker 6 (05:08):
So I'm gonna enjoy this movie.

Speaker 7 (05:09):
First of all, Conclave excellent, really excellent. I really liked it.
Not everybody will love it because you know, well you
just won't all of it, but but very good. You
know the dude from Schindler's List, Ray Fines, Do you
remember that guy?

Speaker 6 (05:24):
He's He's great in it.

Speaker 7 (05:26):
Okay, but the guy sitting a few seats from me
started snoring in the middle of the movie. Kind of
remind me of you, because you know, now you get
those like you get those big lounge.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
Yeah, and people fall asleep.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 7 (05:40):
So I had to figure out how do I get
this guy to stop snoring? And honestly, I want to
thank the guy for snoring. Took my mind completely off
the election. I went completely from Donald Trump's gonna be
president again to what can I do to get this
dude to stop snoring?

Speaker 6 (05:54):
I started by.

Speaker 7 (05:55):
Coughing loudly, like really loud, thinking if I coughed really
maybe that would wake him up.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Did it work?

Speaker 6 (06:02):
Did not? I considered throwing popcorn at it. I knew
that was coming.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Yeah, I would have done that, just.

Speaker 6 (06:08):
Little kernels of popcorn.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:10):
So finally I just walked like I was going to
the restroom, walked by him, and accidentally bumped into his recline.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Is that fair or fat? Oh?

Speaker 4 (06:19):
It's fair, definitely fair.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
I just sort of barely touched it. That woke him up,
loudly snoring. He didn't fall asleep again the rest of
the movie, and I was able to enjoy the rest.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Of the move I'm sure the other people in the
theater were thankful you did that. They probably were getting annoyed.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I like that you're now using subtlety instead of just
yelling out in the theater.

Speaker 6 (06:34):
My man, my man, I guessn't.

Speaker 7 (06:35):
Gonna scream at him. Hey, dude, wake up. I was
gonna you know, I was trying to be subtle. So
then I finished. You know, the movie's probably done eleven forty.

Speaker 6 (06:44):
Five or something. It's very late at night at that point.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
It's very clear who is won, and I have text
messages from a lot of people you know, asking my
opinion and actually went to bed and was you know,
able to to sleep. But congrats to uh Don Trump,
and congrats to all of you that listen that I
know hoped he would win and that are are very

(07:06):
very happy. You know, I said yesterday, I hoped who
ever won, it was by a substantial amount. And that's
what happened. Yeah, I mean, it's he won basically all
the swing states. I kind of hoped one of them
would do that. I mean, I hoped my person would
do it, but but he did. And I think that
is good for the country that we don't fight about
it for the next two months.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
But uh, you know, four more years of Donald Trump.
Are you excited? Said? Look at you should have seen
his face when I asked him that. You had to
look like, why did you ask me this?

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yeah, you did a great job doing your own monologue.
I'm gonna, like, you know, maybe tiptoe around it a
little bit.

Speaker 6 (07:45):
Are you glad that there won't be a big, long
fight for it.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
I am. That is probably the best thing that could
have happened. Yes, And now we just got to hope
that we don't stay divided and we were, We don't
we're all on the same team, you know, so let's
just try to fight together.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
Yeah. I tried to follow it last night. It's too
many counties. I just feel like they're teaching me about
too many counties or too many states. Too many counties.

Speaker 6 (08:07):
Oh, they get county by county.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
Oh yeah both. I went back and forth between CNN
and Fox. Way too many county talk. I fell asleep
and woke up to the news. I mean, like everyone else,
I just I'm hoping we can all come together. I
hope for the best. Like Ryan said, we're doing too
much fighting between ourselves. We're one team. We've now made
the decision. Let's move forward and just yeah, well, I
hope it goes as best as it can.

Speaker 7 (08:30):
I said this on Twitter, and this will be all
I say about the election analysis part of it, but
it's worth saying. The thing I like about this show,
and the thing I've liked about this show for fourteen years,
is that, like there are people even in this part today.
I'm sure who disagree with me on stuff, but we
listen and I feel like everybody really respects each other.

(08:52):
I hope we get back to that in politics. Being
a Democrat, I tend to like complain about my side
a little more because I don't think the Democratic Party
knows how to talk to the people in places like Kentucky.
I just don't think they know how to talk. They
see Kentucky with disdain and it comes through, and I
think that hurts them. I don't think it's also a

(09:14):
secret that Trump will call people names and do all
of that as well. I hope we're able to get
past that. Probably won't for a while, but I hope
we do. But I am glad that at least I
will tell you for me, I'm taking a break.

Speaker 6 (09:27):
From following any of it for a little.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
While because I just, you know, when I was in Europe,
I really enjoyed not having people be contentious, and I think,
at least personally, I'm going to try to.

Speaker 6 (09:39):
Get back to that for a while.

Speaker 7 (09:40):
I'm sure I won't be great at it, but like
it's not worth it, And like last night, not following it,
didn't get involved in any of the arguments, and I
felt good about it.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Well, I found out who our president was by Shannon
the Dude and Billy Ouschports on the pre show this morning.
That's where you got your news.

Speaker 6 (09:57):
Shannon, the dude is your Tom broke up.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
I didn't watch any of it last night.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
You didn't watch any of it, and you got up
this morning and you didn't.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Check, took a shower. I turned on the You just.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
This is what I love about you. You weren't even
curious who won this morning.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Yeah, that's why I turned on the radio.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
I thought I hear it on the news report, but
I got in a shower and I missed it. But
then so show got up.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
But you are amazing to me.

Speaker 7 (10:20):
You gotta I can understand not watching it, but you
got up and didn't even.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
Want to know.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
I wanted to know, but you wanted to hear from Shannon.
I wanted to hear from Shannon.

Speaker 6 (10:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I hope I did a good job for you, broke
it down the electoral votes.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
I do have another question to ask you about this free.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
Jes Shannon, he's your news.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Is jd Vance now the most famous person to be
on this show?

Speaker 6 (10:46):
No, I don't think he is.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
Who is Who's well? Are we talking worldwide or in America?
In America, it will be him worldwide. It's probably still
Roger Feeder.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Uh huh.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
Yeah, But I mean he may be here worldwide two
at some point here relatively soon.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Probably the guy who has actually been on as a guest,
you know, Fredericker just said, hey, what's up, big Blue
Nation or whatever he said?

Speaker 7 (11:08):
Now I consider that being a guest. By the way,
in Kentucky, just a couple of things. The amendment to
failed lost every county?

Speaker 3 (11:16):
Did it lose?

Speaker 4 (11:17):
Every count All one hundred.

Speaker 7 (11:18):
And twenty counties voted no. That I can't remember the
last time that's happened for anything, all one hundred and
twenty county.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 7 (11:26):
It was sixty five to thirty five. And then Ryan's
one endorsement.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Yeah she was.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
She did win, probably on the back on the heels
of your support.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
I think she's the first African American woman to be
on the Kentucky Supreme Court. And you and if I endorsed.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
Her, you took her over the top, took her over
the top.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
So anyway, now, what about the Lexington Parks, Yeah, we're good.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
I was for the parks. Big what happened?

Speaker 7 (11:50):
I didn't we got a yes, good parks are gonna
get well. I didn't understand what that was what happened?
Think they're making more money for to take care of
the parks. So they're pro park.

Speaker 6 (11:59):
Yes, we are a pro park.

Speaker 7 (12:01):
I did not get an update Shannon on who won
our Soil and Water commission.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
Not any of the four that I picked one.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, do you have strong feelings about it?

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Your soil and your water?

Speaker 7 (12:12):
The four women, because I was like, I feel like
they're going to care more about the soil and water.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Females care more about the soil than that.

Speaker 6 (12:18):
I think women like water. I don't know if they do,
but I feel like they do.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
I thought we had two options, and I'm thinking, well,
why not give her soil in her water problem solved
focus instead of putting too much on.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
Their Just divide it.

Speaker 7 (12:31):
You get the soil, it will vote maybe who gets
soil waters?

Speaker 5 (12:35):
Two of them? Two things, attack and let's work together. Yeah,
that's that's how we should be. That's true Franklin's view
of how you do America.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
But on our electington ballot it said select four. But
there were just two names and then they had right,
So what do they do for the other two? People
got to write in somebody.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I guess.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
I think we talked about this before. When there's only
two four, when you have to elect four and there's
only two spots. I think whoever gets written in has
to do the job. You're like, I think you if
you pick Ryan, he is forced to be a Soil
and Water commissioner, whether he wants to be or not.
You get a knock on your door that night and
they tell you you have to quit your Sorry, you're

(13:13):
not a radio host anymore. Soil Water, Tell your kids,
goodbye you Water. I'm killing you right now, very pro water.
H Well, now there's also the guy that I bet.
Oh yeah, remember I'll bet a guy. Uh and and
and what's on the menu? Well, no, no, I said
he would cook for me. I said I would buy him. Okay, yeah,
I'm not cooking, but I said I would buy him

(13:36):
a steak dinner. And you know, I hope you like
Western Sitzeland because that's what we're gonna do.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
But but I pay up my bet. Yeah, do you
what do I have to go? I think that was
part of the deal.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Compan here may.

Speaker 7 (13:52):
We don't do steak anymore, so we can't do I
would have missed, I said steak dinner, so I will
do that.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Waffle house has got steak staking eggs, just give.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Him brisket me. I don't think I'm gonna do.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
I'm not gonna give him waffles. I have to give
him an actual steak, right, I don't think.

Speaker 6 (14:09):
Enough. I'm I will pay up. I did the best.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
the text machine is seven seven two seven.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Four five two five four. Uh.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
I don't want hopefully like I want you all to call,
but not about the election. I think that wouldn't be
a fun show. We're gonna talk about Kentucky and other stuff.

Speaker 8 (14:27):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (14:27):
We will take a break and be right back. We're
here at ks Bar on.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
A rainy wingsday here on Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
Welcome back, I do this is? What is this? Josh Turner? Yep,
A long black train. Yes? Did he have any other
songs besides this one?

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Oh yeah, that I will and come on baby, pulled
them change down and turn the lights down low or
something like that.

Speaker 6 (14:53):
Wow, that was a good version of come on Baby,
turn the lights down. Yeah. I got some folks from Whitesburg,
Letcher County. They had a race.

Speaker 7 (15:03):
They were that state Senate race where everybody had to
write in the votes because well, the guy died it
was sad. Johnny ray Turner, he died he was a
state senator like three or four weeks before the election,
so they didn't have time to put the names on
the ballot.

Speaker 6 (15:18):
So it was all right in wow, and uh, I
don't know. I didn't see who won.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
I want to take days and days to figure it out, won't.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
It No, I mean it still works the same way.
You just have a You just put a name on
there and you write it, but you had to declare
yourself as a writing candidate or the vote doesn't Cassie.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
So I don't know. There were like eleven candidates. I'm
not sure who won.

Speaker 7 (15:40):
If I'm nine two eight to zero twenty two eighty seven,
I wanna let's.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
Switch gears for a little UK basketball, right all right?

Speaker 7 (15:46):
So Mark Pope said after the game, we talked a
lot about the fact that they won, and he was
excited and and all that, but he also said something interesting.
He said, during the off season he went to a
college basket ball referee clinic. He said he wanted to
go to the clinic to not only meet the referees

(16:06):
of the SEC, but also to know how it is
they do their job. He said, he thought if he went,
he would understand why they call this foul or that foul,
and it would make him better prepare his team. And
when I read that, I thought, you know, that's kind
of brilliant. Yep, right, like that's kind of brilliant. Rather

(16:27):
than sit there and say the refs stink, the refs suck,
how about you actually try to understand how and why
they make the calls they make. I loved it because
I felt like it's such an an analytical, intelligent approach
Ryan and I really enjoyed that.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yeah, you know, it's super smart to do that. Coming
into a new conference for the first time, he's trying
to get learn everything he possibly can about all the
teams and now including the official soul.

Speaker 7 (16:54):
Do you think that would be more successful than just
than screaming at them?

Speaker 6 (17:00):
It will.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
I'm looking forward to it. Such a nerd thing to do,
it isn't. I mean, most people in that profession think, Oh,
I'm just gonna take off my jacket and throw it,
or I'm gonna call him out in the press conference
and get fined, or I'm just.

Speaker 6 (17:12):
Gonna yell about it.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
He as a very intelligent person, wants to go learn
what they're thinking, so we can better understand why they're
making those calls. And I assume him doing that will
lead to maybe Kentucky gets well, it's favorable things as well.

Speaker 7 (17:25):
It's a really smart thing to do, like like rather
than say, I mean this honestly has parallels about last night,
Rather than say you're dumb, you disagree with me, why
don't you say why do you think the way you
did right? Same thing with the referee, whether than Jurdan
just get angry at the calls, how about you figure

(17:47):
out why they're.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
Calling it this way or that way.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
And I genuinely believe if Mark Pope gets along with
these referees, you got a better chance of getting a
call or two in a game than if you're screaming,
screaming at.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
The whole time. I've always thought that. So is this
something a lot of coaches do or maybe even the conference?

Speaker 6 (18:03):
I'm not sure. I mean, they may be a lot
of them that do it.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
I had never heard of a coach doing that, but
but but he clearly did.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
He said he goes there for two days, he watches them,
watch film and talk about why they make calls or
what should be called.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Oh is that right?

Speaker 5 (18:18):
Watches them was horribly boring, But I mean, I think
it's gonna benefit him in the long run.

Speaker 6 (18:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:23):
Yeah, And you know, I've noticed during these games like
he doesn't he doesn't yell at the at the officials.
He told his players, I don't want you to think
about a call the entire game.

Speaker 6 (18:35):
He was like, you.

Speaker 7 (18:36):
Can't control it, he said, don't even think about it.
And I will say last year especially, I felt like
our team wind about calls way too much. I don't
know that we've always done that, but it felt like
last year to me, we had a lot of times
where it was like just complaining about call.

Speaker 6 (18:54):
I love Rob Dellingham, but he was one of the
worst about it.

Speaker 7 (18:56):
It does feel like that that Probably, I bet referees
don't want to be showed up by coaches, but I
bet they, really, Drew don't want to be shown up
by players.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
I can remember some of that recently, even just some
of I missed a shot, I'm gonna slouch and you
look up, your man's gone the other way for a layup.
There was a lot of that. Hopefully, Pope. You know,
he preaches a lot of discipline as you said, ignore it,
move on. Hope we don't see as much of that.

Speaker 7 (19:17):
Yeah, so an interesting another example of how I feel
like they are coaching this team intelligently well.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
In the press conference, I think it was the first
question he talked about a frontal cortex or I'm like,
what are you.

Speaker 7 (19:30):
Even talking about. We're not a bunch of web MD bennies.
He talked about frontal cortex. Googling what he's talking about.
What did he say about frontal cortex?

Speaker 5 (19:38):
He told him to use more of their frontal cortex
and less of their Olympic system. So then I have
to google Olympic system. And there's just what was he mean?

Speaker 4 (19:46):
What did he mean?

Speaker 6 (19:46):
I don't know. I still don't know.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
I'm just saying it's he's very intelligent, and when we're
getting answers in these things.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
There it's, you know, like he's talking about like your
decision making part of your brain than the other side,
you emotional side of the brain, and how those things
all tie together in a basketball game.

Speaker 6 (20:04):
And he wants us to use our what part of
the brain I think, not your Olympics system, and which
one does.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Which the Olympic is the emotional part of your brain.
So he's trying to get you to use more of
your frontal part to make the decisions and not to
make them depending on your emotion.

Speaker 6 (20:22):
This is all one man.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Did you know that?

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Oh yeah, I used to be a brain surgeon back
in the day.

Speaker 6 (20:26):
So well that's interesting. So he wants you to use
the thinking, not the emotional. It makes sense.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
It does make sense.

Speaker 7 (20:33):
You know, Pope almost went to medical school, so he's
got to be one of the few coaches that would
know that.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
But how many coaches bring that up the first comment
in a press conference.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
I don't think there's a lot. I haven't heard Bruce
Pearl say that. Who's a person? Elijah Elijah? How are
you Elijah Elijah? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (20:54):
Go ahead, Hey, hey, I was good at calling. Just
listening you guys. The talk about the learning, how the referees,
you know, officiate the game. I show horses for a living,
and if you know how a judge is judging your
horse and looking at your horse, yeah and whatnot, you're

(21:15):
definitely way better prepared and you'll be way more successful.
So good on Mark Pope. He's a smart coach. I'd
also like to say, I know you talked about it
a little yesterday, but Big Blue Nation needs to settle
down on the Kentucky kids. Like we watched thirty five minutes.

Speaker 7 (21:33):
I got a lot of feedback about that comment yesterday.

Speaker 6 (21:36):
So you did you agree with the calling?

Speaker 9 (21:40):
I agree with you one hundred percent. We watched thirty
five minutes of experienced, good college basketball players play and
whether they want to admit it or not, when them
kids walked on the floor, they look like high schoolers
and that's okay, thirty fine, they're eighteen years old. So
and I think with n Il, those kids are already
Kentucky legends. It'll they'll get the money, they'll stick around,

(22:03):
and they'll be Kentucky legends when they're done.

Speaker 6 (22:06):
Totally agree with that. I appreciate the call.

Speaker 7 (22:08):
There were a lot of people that reached out to
me on that call yesterday about Noah and Perry and
like whether they should play more, and there were people
on either side. To be honest with you, but I
this is nothing against Noah and Perry because I do
think both of them can not only.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
Play here, they can be good.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
That is a grown men versus young guys comparison. When
you look at these older guys on our team versus them.

Speaker 6 (22:35):
Do you agree?

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Yes? Yeah, the way they played, experience their bodies. I
had no problem with the guys coming in late. I
just thought maybe it could have gone just a couple
of minutes of So why just because it was forty
point blowout.

Speaker 7 (22:46):
But what about what Pope says about the margin matters
and the analytics matter for tournament seed.

Speaker 4 (22:53):
He's smarter than I am, so he knows what he's doing.

Speaker 6 (22:55):
Yeah, he was using his frontal cortex substitution. Exactly.

Speaker 7 (22:59):
Your emotion Chitel Lobes would say, put in the Kentucky kid. Yeah,
your frontal cortex says we need a good seed when
we get to the tournament.

Speaker 6 (23:06):
We'll be right back. TJ.

Speaker 7 (23:07):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Welcome back, Tekey Sports Radio.

Speaker 7 (23:18):
I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text
machine seven seven two seven four five two five four
one person rights mad. I do not believe you that
you weren't on your phone. You care about this stuff
as much as anybody I know. I don't believe you
didn't take your phone to the movie theater. I didn't
didn't take the movie theater, didn't even look at it.
I looked at it a lot in the afternoon, and
then I was like, what if this is not accomplishing anything,

(23:39):
why am I doing this? So I watched the Champions
League soccer uh. In between the two movies, I watched
the Canes win. They've won seven in a row. Just
for the record. They're hot. They're hot. I'm my my
hockey fever, I'm my Caney act.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
This is is rolling you to try to go to
a go to a game.

Speaker 6 (23:58):
Yeah, for sure, I'm gonna go to a couple of
this year. I'd like to.

Speaker 7 (24:01):
They're in Columbus. They're in Columbus at the same time
we play Texas. So if I go to that game,
I don't know how am I going to watch the
football game in order to be I guess I could
watch it at the arena.

Speaker 6 (24:13):
And then do the postgame show.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
But if only we were about to drive all over America,
surely they're somewhere.

Speaker 6 (24:18):
I loved.

Speaker 7 (24:18):
If they were anywhere on the trip, we would go.
But they they're playing up in the northeast and I
thought about even taking us that way to try to
catch a game, but I don't feel like we could
get there quite on top.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
I just mentioned this to Ryan during the break, but
I had to politely decline an invitation to Elf the
Musical on all our behalf because it's while we're on
our way to Seattle. But they were listening and reached out,
and well, that's nice. They probably like the uh like
the publicity doesn't work out.

Speaker 7 (24:44):
There if I'm nine to eight twenty two eighty seven,
one person, rights Matt. The thing I like about our
team is the experience and how hard they play. I
think if you played Noah and Perry, you'd get a
lot of the problems we've had recently with Col's team.

Speaker 6 (25:00):
I think that's right. I mean, again, it's nothing against
those kids.

Speaker 7 (25:03):
This is how it used to be. Like it used
to be, the freshmen didn't come in and play a lot.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
We're used to.

Speaker 7 (25:09):
We've gotten our minds completely changed by how the team
has been recently.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
But it used to be that you didn't expect the.

Speaker 7 (25:16):
Dude to come in from Lime County be bulked up
and ready to play. I would just ask you look
at their bodies, like just physically look at the bodies
of the top guys and didn't look at Noah and Perry.

Speaker 6 (25:30):
It's just a different world.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
You know, Like we said yesterday, at least I'm glad
they kept playing. You know, when those guys put in,
they didn't you know, pull the ball out and just
run the clock down by wall. They were still running
their offense, making cuts. They got a couple shots off,
you know, that's that's more than they're gonna get in
a lot of games.

Speaker 7 (25:44):
But that story I told about, I mean Annsley Almanor
when he started college, Trent Noah was in eighth grade.
I mean, like, there you go, Matt, think about the
kids going to college and the other kids in eighth grade.
You're not gonna expect them to get to play with
each other.

Speaker 5 (25:58):
It's crazy how xtations for them flip too. I mean
until Pope, Trent Noah wasn't even gonna be on this team,
didn't even have much of a conversation to be a
Kentucky commit when Cow was here and we all knew
Travis Perry wasn't gonna play much. So just because Pope's
here in the systems change. I don't think we should
be expecting too much out of them more than what
they're right, what they're gonna.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
Be doing one person rights. Matt. Let me ask you
a question. I bet you haven't been asked.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
With Trump winning, what changes might happen in sports?

Speaker 6 (26:26):
It's actually a really good question.

Speaker 7 (26:30):
Here's the biggest The biggest change is I will make
you a bet you write this down. Okay, the live tour,
PGA thing, they'll end up back together, probably pretty soon
because the biggest hindrance of it was the Department of Justice.
And I bet they'll in a Trump administration, they'll just
let them merge because so that to me, will be

(26:52):
the biggest thing. That's a that's a big thing. But
I bet you, I bet you that happens. Whether that's
good or not is in your own personal bloe. Like
I think basically the Saudis are going to own the
golf tour and we're gonna be playing. The PGA Tour
will be a Saudi Golf Tour. But I do think
that'll happen. And then I think in college sports, I
think there's two big changes. One is going to be

(27:15):
the Nile Bill is going to look different. I had
assumed you would get a Republican Senate and a Democratic House.
It's looking like you might get all Republicans in all three,
at which point they will pass a bill that will
be much more pro the colleges rather than the players,

(27:36):
and then you have to see if the Supreme Court
will uphold it. But I think now there was going
to be a settlement either way, but I think now
it'll swing more in favor of the colleges.

Speaker 6 (27:47):
That's just my guess. And then the other one is
Title nine.

Speaker 7 (27:50):
I mean there's a part of the Trump administration that
wants Title nine, maybe not to go away, but to
be changed. So you know, if you're an advocate for
women's sports, that might change. I think those are the
ones that stick out to me the most. A lot
of sports.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
It won't really have any effect either way. On the
Live even gave Bryce in a shout out last night.

Speaker 7 (28:08):
He did, and I saw Rory McElroy this morning said
the exact same thing I just said. And they they're
all friends with him because they play golf with him,
so they know. I think you're gonna have one golf
tour again. But I also think it's probably gonna be
like a Saudi golf tour just in America. And whether
that's good or not, I guess he's your own personal opinion,

(28:28):
but I do think that's very likely.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
It's interesting, you know, to follows what was gonna happen.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
Yeah, but it's probably good for golf to put him
back together. But I think you'll see that. Who's up next, Charles, Charles?
How are you? Charles? Doing well?

Speaker 8 (28:43):
Doing well? So I'm just trying to think about the
differences between the you know, two coaches and one coach
I see, you know, he takes the names of the referee,
so he can you know, yell at them in the game,
and like the next coach, you know, he's probably gonna
know them personally, you know, probably give him like a
bag of cookies or something before the game, and you know,
bring them about their family.

Speaker 7 (29:04):
I could totally see Pope's wife making the referees cookies,
can't you, or Pope doing like the ted Lasco biscuit
drop off due locker room like Welcome to Lexington. The
more the more I watch ted Lasso, Mark Pope is
ted Lasso, Yeah, Mark, Mark Pope is a smarter ted Lasso.
Ted Lasso is kind of like not he's kind of

(29:25):
like a little dumb but awesome. Mark Pope is that
but smart? He's ted Lasso. You're right, he's gonna bring
him biscuits. He is going to bring the referees biscuits.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
Yeah. So then here's my next thing. So you know
how some people think, you know, because something happened, like
they you know, stood in the shower, they could affect
a game or whatever.

Speaker 6 (29:46):
Yes, by some people you mean me, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
Pretty much.

Speaker 8 (29:53):
Well I have this thing now where you know, I
want everything to be like it was back in ninety six,
just thinking, you know, you know, take that just a
little bit, you know, farther, Are there any things that
you guys are kind of like, Okay, let's bring this back.

Speaker 9 (30:07):
We got to bring this.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
That's a great question from what from UK basketball? Since
the nineties are back with UK basketball. I appreciate the
call if you could bring something back from UK basketball
of the past and bring it to this era. Besides
the tongue, which I think is what a lot of
people would say. His daughter was wearing a shirt that

(30:28):
had the tongue on it the other day, yeah, on Monday.
Besides the tongue, is there anything from UK basketball past
you would like to see brought back.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
I only discussed this earlier. I mentioned the denim uniforms.
I think it's cool if they'd bring that at least
just one game. One game then uniforms. Somehow find a
way to have the camp out again. I know they
can't have it where they.

Speaker 7 (30:48):
That's not gonna happen though this year. I mean like
something they could do this year that would be like
something from the past that was fun that they could do.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
I'll tell you what I loved from his playing days
a Kentucky was that starting line up music.

Speaker 6 (31:00):
I don't know. I don't know what they used. So
they did use the Bulls music. Okay, I like that.
That's good. What else I wish that the uh I
kind of think it would be fun.

Speaker 7 (31:15):
This is the school can't do this as much as
it would be the fans and the students. If they
would do the three chant, you know what I mean
every back when Patino was here, every time they would
shoot a three while it was in the air, but
it would go three yeah.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
And then if they I think that would be kind
of cool to do because we're gonna take a lot of.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Oh yeah, Patty who comes to our shows, does the
the threes in the corner when they put up the sign.
I think they've been doing that for a while, but
I hope they But they don't do the chant no,
but I hope they'll put a little more emphasis on
those three counters now too, that that's a big part
of the offense.

Speaker 7 (31:44):
Yeah, I'm trying to think what else would be good.
I mean the traditions. One we shouldn't bring back was
the claw thing. No, that failed.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
That was really terrible. Don't bring that one back.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
I like the new tradition of doing a victory lap
after the game to meet the fans around.

Speaker 6 (32:00):
I like that. What about the silver uniforms, I'm okay
with that.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
Maybe one game?

Speaker 6 (32:05):
Oh you would want the silver uniforms back?

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Why not just one game? You know, interesting a road game,
maybe the road game against Ohio State or a Clypson
or somebody. I don't have no problem with that.

Speaker 6 (32:16):
I thought this was. What about the icicles? Oh the apex?
Bring back the apex?

Speaker 4 (32:20):
You gotta do you thought this for a long time.

Speaker 5 (32:22):
Kentucky has been terrible at alternate throwback jerseys.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
Yeah, Louisville, I hate Louisville.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
But if I will give them one compliment, they're so
good at that logos. Kentucky finally did one last year
or two with the ninety two, but they should be
doing a jersey all the time.

Speaker 6 (32:38):
The icicles would be cool.

Speaker 7 (32:39):
Yes, it would be the having the eye sicle, doing
a game of icicle, doing a game of denim the silver.

Speaker 6 (32:47):
I'd like it, but I don't know that people would
love that. But I would love to see those coming back.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
Get ready.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Yeah, I want them to like hang another jersey in
the rect like at least one a year. You know,
we'll be kind of straight away from that one year.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
That's too many. You don't want we don't need one
a year?

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Why not? Well, but I mean.

Speaker 7 (33:06):
Because it's supposed to be special, and if you give
one a year, we're gonna end up giving one. I
mean over time, you'll end up giving one to a
player from every season.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
It's gonna be a lot of laundry.

Speaker 6 (33:14):
That's gonna be a lot of stuff up there over time.

Speaker 5 (33:17):
On that note, I love the Judge, but we need
another banner next to the Judgs gunner.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
I've even had announcers for ESPN pull me aside and
be like, what's up with the one Judd banner up there?

Speaker 7 (33:27):
It is weird that we only have the d What
else would you put up there besides the Judge.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Nothing wrong with the Judge banner.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
It's just it's been the only one up there for
so long and need some company.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
That's interesting.

Speaker 7 (33:38):
I was at Madison Square Garden and they have a
Billy Joel banner and the other banner is Fish, and
I was thinking of all the people that have been
at Madison Square Garden. I give Billy Joel, he's from
New York, But how did you decide to put fish
up there? I just think that's odd a lot. But
what what? Why are the Judds up there? Because it's

(34:01):
not that's not even Ashley. That's why.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
Then it has its own spot on the wall, like
it's completely by itself.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
They did it on their farewell farewell tour, right, But
why just because they're Kentucky people.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
But there's a lot of Kentucky people. We have more
like Loretta Lynn. I mean, there's a ton of Kentucky.
Why are the judge and not me?

Speaker 6 (34:22):
What?

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Why not me?

Speaker 3 (34:24):
Okay, just slow, I have one more thing.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
I'm gonna.

Speaker 6 (34:28):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
I want them to do more retire jerseys, and I
want them to do the why at every game that
traditionally marks out Travis Ford, even during the Exhibs game
there's a former player there. Do the why at the
UH cheer every game.

Speaker 7 (34:41):
They should, well they ought to planet to where if
you're gonna do the why every game, bring somebody in, Like,
don't just look around and say who's here? Plant you know,
bring them up like it would be And you don't
just have to have played for Kentucky right, bring out
Tyler children right, like bring out random Kentucky. And I
think before I would really suggest to UK in the

(35:03):
next year do something for Oscar Combs, like let him
be the why. That would mean so much to that
guy and he deserves it, and like things like that.
I use that as a way to really kind of
get the fan base, you know. Locked in Court Physical
Therapy KRT dot com. If you need have physical therapy

(35:23):
needs you want to feel better, go to court dot com.
They will help you and if you have insurance, it'll
work on it on nearly all of them over seventy locations.
You could have an extreme discount if you've used your
deductible up this year. Go to court, physical therapy experience,
the best in rehab for the holidays, It's Kort dot Com.
We're gonna take a break and be right back in

(35:44):
his Wings day here at Ksbar Dollar Wings all day,
best wings in the city, best wings in the world
where there's one really good one in Bulgaria. But we're next,
We'll be right back to Sctucky Sports Radio. All right,
so this is the one musical banner, Reperena. Apparently Fish
sold out Madison Square Garden for.

Speaker 6 (36:03):
Thirteen straight shows.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
What Why Hunt?

Speaker 6 (36:08):
But okay, so that's like, that's good. But so Taylor
Swift shows.

Speaker 7 (36:15):
It sold seventy thousand seats three nights in a row.
That's what, two hundred and fifteen thousand.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
I'm sure they'll put her name up in the rafter
or something.

Speaker 7 (36:24):
I mean, you just gonna put her name in the
rafters of every arena because she's done that everywhere she's been. Like,
does she just get to have be in a banner everywhere?

Speaker 4 (36:33):
Reperena can hang at Taylor Swift?

Speaker 7 (36:34):
I mean no, Now, listen, if Fish sold thirteen straight
shows out at roup, I think it should put the
banner up.

Speaker 6 (36:42):
I don't know. I just feel like that's a weird,
weird one to.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
Do, it isn't It just looks funny being one, Like
I might put one for the Kentucky was the Kentucky
Rising concert?

Speaker 6 (36:52):
Yeah that was cool. Maybe commemorate that night.

Speaker 7 (36:54):
But I will say I will to what you said,
put a banner up every year for basketball. I don't
know if I want every year, but we do need more.
I mean, we have not had one since Jamal Mashburn right,
a lot of players. I mean, I want you to
think that Tony Delk is the last guy to have
his jersey retired. Now's twenty years ago is when he played.

(37:15):
I mean, who's net who would be next?

Speaker 4 (37:18):
I think Prince has got to be.

Speaker 7 (37:19):
I think Tashawn has got to be who you do next.
I think you do Tayshan, But then if you do Taishan,
you're gonna have to do Bogus. Yes, I don't think
you can do Tayshawn and not Bogans. But then that
gets us to what are you gonna do about the
cow guys? I mean, the cow guys are tough because
you could either do I mean the problem with the
cow guys, is there are two that to me stick.

Speaker 6 (37:42):
At, which is Davis and Wall. But Oscar was National
Player of the Year.

Speaker 7 (37:50):
But it feels weird that you would have Oscar but
not have, you know, pick your star.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
Over the years, all right, Carl one pick?

Speaker 7 (38:00):
Yeah, although Carl was not even the best player on
that team, so I think you can understandably leave him off.
But let's say you were gonna rank putting the jerseys
up into rafters. Anthony Davis goes first from the Calgary right,
is Wall second?

Speaker 4 (38:16):
I think?

Speaker 7 (38:16):
So yep, okay, So if Anthony Davis is first, and
I'm not by the way, this is not who I
think was the best player, just who you putting in
the rafters considering the standards of what.

Speaker 6 (38:27):
They use for the rafters.

Speaker 7 (38:29):
Anthony Davis is won, Wall second, Is Oscar third? I mean,
I don't think anybody would think Oscar was the third
best player. But besides, but Oscar was the only one
that won National Player of the Year.

Speaker 6 (38:41):
That you have a National Player of the Year, I
think they gotta go up.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
I agree that alone puts you in the conversation.

Speaker 7 (38:47):
So you're putting Oscar up ahead of Brandon Knight, Randall Fox.

Speaker 5 (38:52):
That's where it's so hard. I mean, Malik Munk has
like the third best season for scoring ever.

Speaker 6 (38:58):
He does the only one's list, No, but he has
one of the best years ever in the history of
the program.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
I'm gonna tell you another one.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
Willie Collie Stein, National Defensive Player of the Year, SEC.

Speaker 6 (39:07):
First Team all.

Speaker 3 (39:10):
You wouldn't ever think Willy, but you look at his accolades.
He deserves it.

Speaker 7 (39:13):
And I mean, even though they didn't necessarily do it
here Shaye Alexander and Devin Booker. One of these days
people are gonna go, how are they not up there?
Jamal Murray put up tons of points here. I just think,
I think, UK when they get to that era, it's
gonna be really hard.

Speaker 6 (39:32):
Anthony Davis is going up? Is that? Do you agree
with that?

Speaker 3 (39:35):
He has to?

Speaker 6 (39:36):
John wall has to? Is he going up?

Speaker 8 (39:38):
He has?

Speaker 6 (39:38):
All right? So now third is Oscar going up?

Speaker 3 (39:41):
I got one.

Speaker 6 (39:42):
We're skipping.

Speaker 5 (39:43):
Ulis was SEC Player of the Year and defensive play
But you.

Speaker 7 (39:46):
Can't put ulss up and not put the national player Oscar.

Speaker 6 (39:50):
I'm just adding Ulis to the conversation.

Speaker 4 (39:52):
So Oscar, I think he's third in line. Right now.

Speaker 7 (39:55):
But does Oscar feel like the third best player in
the cal Era?

Speaker 6 (39:58):
No, but I think he's gonna have to.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Be up there are the rules, and I.

Speaker 7 (40:02):
Think you have to put Willie up there before you
put YOUU list, because you're right about what ulis is.
But then you Willie was first team.

Speaker 5 (40:10):
In the player of the Year conversation, Yeah, third or fourth,
And if you just look at awards, that's difficult. Like
Emanual Quickly was Player of the Year. He didn't have
that many SEC Player of the years the Yeah, they
Quickly should be up there, but he was.

Speaker 6 (40:24):
And if you look.

Speaker 7 (40:24):
At points scored in the season, Antonio Reeves, Yeah, Antonio
Reeves has the third most points of the cal Era in.

Speaker 5 (40:32):
The season He's got last year was top ten single
seasons all time too.

Speaker 6 (40:37):
Yeah, I mean exactly what I think the best seasons are.

Speaker 7 (40:41):
Monk has the best cow When it's like third or four,
it's like Monk Murray Reeves, I think are the top three.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
He didn't play for COB. I think Jody Meeks is
probably in the conversation.

Speaker 7 (40:51):
By the way, I think Reeves would have been first
if they had gone farther in the turn.

Speaker 6 (40:54):
Probably just end up playing more games, would you say?

Speaker 3 (40:56):
I think Jody Meeks he didn't play for cow, but
he's got to be in the conversation.

Speaker 7 (41:00):
So if all the guys not up there, can I
give you my rankings of top five? Yes, Anthony Davis
should be the next one up. There's no way you
can have that and not have Anthony Davis up there.
You know my second one is gonna be Mike Pratt.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
It's a good call.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
Mike Pratt needs to be up there. Should have been
up there with the pass, should have been up there
before he passed away. Mike, Mike Pratt should be up there.
He's second for me. Then I think third is John Wall.
Then after John Wall, I think the next group has
to be like Tayshawn and Bogan huh, because of their
But then it starts to in my opinion, get really yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
I always thought, you know, you mentioned Mike Pratt. I
wish they would have retired Melvin Turpin before he passed away.
There's a couple guys, you know, they didn't get to
see that. So but I think we've got a pretty
good list of guys that are next in line.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
But had they changed the rule.

Speaker 7 (41:50):
Where they changed the rule, but all those guys should
be eligible now you have to have been in the
Hall of Fame for five years.

Speaker 4 (41:55):
Okay, not for it.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
They just added Pratt like a year ago. We said, donk,
they did add Pratt, they did add prep Yeah, okay,
I thought I had a memory of that. I just
googled it up. He's up there and there's okay. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (42:07):
So we've only had two people retired since two thousand
and two.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
Yes, that's why I want to bring it back. We've
got dog people.

Speaker 7 (42:15):
We have only we've only done two people since two
thousand and two. See, that's ridiculous that that that that
should there should be more of those. We'll take a break,
come back. I remember two.

Speaker 6 (42:25):
It's KOs Horner.
