Speaker 5 (01:22):
But today is all about celebrating the Cats victory over
the Cards.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Ryan Lemon. It was a it was a.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
Battle kind of four to ten points throughout the game. Uh,
Kentucky never could put it away, but also never was
down but got the victory.

Speaker 6 (01:37):
Fun game to watch.

Speaker 7 (01:38):
Yeah, it kind of felt like to me that the
rivalry was back a little bit, you know, after the
last couple year with Kenny being over there, there wasn't
much of a game.

Speaker 6 (01:46):
That was a pretty good game. You know, they cut
it to did they get it to two and only.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Cut it to three and a Seconday, And they got
to three.

Speaker 7 (01:52):
In the in the second half, but you know they
when Kentucky jumped out fourteen to five, that nine point
cushion kind of it was pretty even after that, you know,
that kind.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Of came it was even except for the first three
or four minutes. It was basically you were there loud crown.

Speaker 8 (02:06):
Oh yes, as Roy was saying, it feels good to
have some juice back in that rivalry. It wasn't quite
the first cow when when they were fighting, you know,
had the Swapshire elbow from Cousins and the you know,
messing with the wrong guy with that bloodsoe. But it
did feel like there was some fire in this new
air again. Of course they had the little scene over
at the bench, but there the fans were great. Really,

(02:26):
I was shocked there wasn't much red in there at all.
I thought they'd have a little bit. They didn't travel well,
but overall that was they still brought its fastball.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
There's their fan base still seems oddly apathetic to me,
which is which is which is strange because I actually
think their team is pretty good.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
I mean, you know, I came away, I came away
with a few thoughts, so you can kind of jump
in as as we go on them. My first thought was,
you know, this is a game where you needed to win,
and they just they took care business right. They did
kind of just enough to win, and the big guys
stepped up, right. I mean Lamont Butler that goes down

(03:05):
as one of the best U of L performances ever,
ten of ten thirty three points, doesn't miss a shot
except at the free throw line. And by the way,
our free throws are problem, Like do we need to
start talking about our free throws for our team?

Speaker 4 (03:17):
But you're not very good at them.

Speaker 7 (03:19):
Gazaga game, they were perfect from the free throw line
until overtime. You'll we kind of oversee it, but yeah,
it does seem like they miss a lot of.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Free missed a lot of free throws.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
But otherwise Lamont Butler, uh perfect in the game that
was big. Oh way, did not play well for thirty
six minutes, but then had like a great final four
minutes to get to help us get the victory. Uh,
the juice was in there, right, they get in the fight.
You know, I can tell you the one dude who's
who's out for the year with the goggles from BYU.

(03:49):
I'm not gonna like that guy because he was talking
a lot of trash Ali whatever his name is, yeah, Khalifah,
like he was doing they're too short. I'm not gonna
like that. Poo already has the player they hate, which
is Brandon Garrison. They kept saying he played dirty. I
didn't think that during the game, did you know, I
never saw it. I thought he played pretty well. Actually,

(04:09):
you know, him and Mario Wallis both had four cysts.

Speaker 7 (04:12):
I think they're probably the two best passing big men
we've had since Chuck Hayes and Eric Daniels.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Okay, slow down, Yeah, you think they're the best passing
big men sins.

Speaker 7 (04:22):
But really, yeah, I think so. The way they're able
to get at the high post. I think they've made too.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
Many turnovers though to give that kind of nod to
I mean, they do make great assists, but they also
they also turn it over quite a bit.

Speaker 7 (04:35):
I thought they both played really well. Both of guys
did play big guys play pretty well.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
It's interesting because I take the exact opposite view.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
I thought the team was better when we went with
Carr at the center and we played those four guys.

Speaker 8 (04:46):
Rod's will right on their passing though they are turnover prone.
But uh, one of the analytical sites, Evan Mayo, one
of those did the top twenty passers in college basketball,
and they were both pretty high on Kentucky. They had
two of the top big men now they do when
they try to ribble.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
When they dribble, it's a different conversation, different conversation, even
when the post and the dribble they pounded. I'm just
not a I'm not a big I agree with you.
This is across the board, all of them.

Speaker 8 (05:11):
I feel like, where there be an offensive reboul when
they first get it, they need to go straight up strong.
They pump fake a little too much and then they're
playing a little too below the rim. The car is
guilty of that. Also.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
You know when I was when I was a little kid, Uh,
Bob Green who was the coach of our junior pro team.
Everybody remembers those historic Middlesborough Junior pro teams, don't they.
H He was big on the pump fake.

Speaker 6 (05:32):
Right, like, he's the Green, not the b Ob O B.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
And this is not the b O b O B's
the is the b O B.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
B O B the b O.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
I didn't know that was the grandfather, oh, because you
remember the grandfather was was Bo. The dad was Bob,
and then my friend became Boba. His son is Yeah,
but his his son is bo Bo Bob. No, he's not,
but but Bob he was big on the pump fake.

(06:00):
He'd always he'd always look at the bigs. I was
a big and that you were a big and go
pump fake. I feel like Bob Green went into overtime
with this UK team.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
There's too much. I mean, Kobe Bray is pump faking
on every three.

Speaker 8 (06:11):
Just shoot man, Like there was a moment I think
I think it was a mari if you just gone
wide open dunk.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
But he why why doesn't he dunk?

Speaker 5 (06:21):
He doesn't dunk again, Mario, you were friends with them,
Tell him the dunk.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Just say Amary.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
I mean his name has a lot of the same
letters as yours.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
Does Rob Maury, mariy. Oh, it's just one like there's
one letter difference.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Just say to him, make him oh Mary, and tell
him to dunk because I missed the dunk on it
with him.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
And when he does do that, when he's down on
the post, he gets the ball, makes a strong movie.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
He's usually successful, so why not.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
But back to what I was saying about the team
and Jackson, Robinson up made a couple of big plays.
Brea hit maybe the biggest shot of the game when
when Louisville was making the run and cut it to three,
and then he had a contest three that I thought
was huge. A lot of guys contributed, but it was
the LaMonte Butler game, and you know.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
For for Butler, the dude didn't play for a week
and a half. Even doing our pregame show, we worked
for sure if he was even gonna play.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Nobody knew.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
He's gonna play for a walks on the court for
warm ups now before tip off, and then he has
the game.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
The year said, we'll always be remembered as a little
six three.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
He only had seven on the year. He gets six
in one day, and they were all big. I mean
they were usually at a time we needed even to
make it, and he did.

Speaker 8 (07:28):
Six for six from three six rebounds. We all knew
he needed to play for to go well for Kentucky,
but no one expected anything like that. And he also
was just leading them. He was a little spicy. I
don't know if he was back on TV, but he
got called for a walk and then he scored on
the next time down and he made up like a
walk dance where he was doing this to celebrate, kind
of tawning that he had just been called for a travel.

(07:48):
So he was putting the L's down. I mean, I
was really impressed with their energy throughout the game. It
got a little closer than we wanted. They could never
make that next shot or Louisvill would always respond. They
got it to tens forever.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
They got it to ten, like six or seven times,
and they just couldn't get it over ten. Louisville would
come down and hit a three. Usually Edwards or Hepburn
would hit a three. Those two guys played really really well.
We you know, we we can't defend on the PRIMI
I mean with the exceptional lamont but even lamont is

(08:19):
is I mean, we get taken on defense, but then
we came right back.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
A lot of mental toughness with this group.

Speaker 7 (08:26):
Yeah, you know when they did a switch and Jackson
Robinson had to guard one of those guys. Hey, they
took advantage of that, you know. Oh and b when
he was on it Rayah for sure. Yeah absolutely. But
you know, Chuckie Hebbard's good man, he's a good player,
and then they're they're a pretty good team. It just
feels good to have that rivalry back. We can look
forward to beating him in.

Speaker 8 (08:45):
Edwards was making a lot of threes. Foul trouble kind
of helped.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
Foul trouble did help us with Edwards because he although
he still ended up playing thirty minutes, it did feel
like the minutes he didn't matter.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
He wasn't in. Speaking of minutes, not in when Butler
wasn't in, we're not the same team. No, we're just now.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
I mean when Butler's not in that when he comes out,
it's just not the same. We we where I think
you really feel it. We struggled defensively, but we really struggle.
We can't get any ball movement without Butler. It's amazing
how important he is to the team.

Speaker 7 (09:16):
And they tried to sneak him a little rest. You know,
Travis would come in right play. But it's just not
the same, not the same. So even though it was
his first game back, I still think he probably had
team high in minutes. I think he was like thirty
three minutes. That may be the most on the team.

Speaker 6 (09:29):
So, yeah, he is. He is the most valua.

Speaker 7 (09:31):
May i'd be the leading score, but he's the most
valuable member of this team right now.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (09:34):
Pat Kelsey says, they're nos arc. They have two of everything.
They don't have two of him. He's by far the
most important player on this. He say that, he said
we were Noah's ark. He said that a couple of
times this year. I guess two of everything, but they
don't have two Laman Butler's He's he's the most important.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
You know. I'm anti nickname, right, very anti like forcing a.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
Nickname, but I will say, oh, no, I mean, I
don't think we want to call him this. I'm not
sure it's a compliment exactly, although I think it's meant
as a compliment. But I will say, if you were
trying to say what they are the most like, what
are you laughing at?

Speaker 6 (10:13):
You're gonna you're gonna bring him a nickname?

Speaker 4 (10:16):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (10:17):
I'm not pro nickname, Shannon, you know I'm not. Sometimes ye,
most of them are terrible. But this one, what did
you stop looking at me? But there's a I could
see this one? Okay, what is it? A guy called
in and said, and by the way, this is not
an offer for you to call in and give me

(10:40):
any nicknames today, but you could want them.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
No, I don't want to hear them. Okay. But somebody
called in and he said, the stray cats because they
all came from all over, right, they sort of ended
up here. We're feeding them, we're giving a milk, we're
giving a milk. They've come together.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Now, I know that's not like we're not gonna say
like people are gonna chance stray cats. And I'm not
even sure it's totally a compliment, but I actually think
it's not bad as a description rind of what they
are because they're all kind of like strays. They straight
from Drexel and Fairley, Dickenson and wake Forest and they
just they just sort of straight in.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
Straight cats are usually like nasty.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Mean, kind of nasty, right, Like, they all have like
nasty traits. You know, they'll they'll fight you. Amari is
going to dribble whether you want him to or not.
You know, Butler's Butler's tough bray. It can't guard anybody,
but he's the best shooter in the country.

Speaker 8 (11:43):
I don't hate it. Just when I think of stray cats,
they kind of come out of the gutter. Nobody wanted them.
They end up at Shannon's house and his cat sitting.
Shannon's the authority on straight cats.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
What do you say, Yeah, I don't, I mean it's
I guess, a good name.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
But the thought of a stray cat as a homeless
cat with mattet hair and a home said the cat.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Stray cat is not homeless and it just wanders in.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
They're homeless, they're home.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
It's not hey.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
But homeless cats have dignity too. And I'm saying that fine.
I'm not just saying of the names I've heard the remarkables.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
We're not calling them the homeless cat. Okay.

Speaker 8 (12:22):
I got another one though, Okay, now here because they're
three point shooters.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
Here we go.

Speaker 8 (12:27):
Mark Pope went out and got them. How about marksmen.
They're marx Men. Their marksmen.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
See, we need to have everybody calling with.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
The first of all, I do not what any suggestions
marksman though, is like that's like stray cats is bad anyway.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
The point is we beat.

Speaker 8 (12:44):
Little and with the marksmen.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
Do you do you get a sense? I kind of
have the feeling. It feels to me like Louisville fans
that was they should be happy. That was tough performance
by them. Hepburn and Edwards were great. The one what
was the big the big white news name? He played
well Waterman, he played well like that they you know,
the little lefty he ran around and gave us some

(13:09):
problems as well. Like they're a decent team, and yet
I'm with you, Drew. It feels like their fans have
just given up, that their souls are just out. Like
there was no trash talking. There was there were like
six Louisville people at the game. It's odd to me.
This should be a team they love and embrace.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Why don't they do it.

Speaker 8 (13:28):
We're not a moral victory school, but they definitely are.
And that was a big moral victory for it should
be Kenny Payne break them. Remember last year? Broken last
year there were more Kentucky fans in Louisville than Louisville
fans and it was a blowout. That might have just
been the it for them. Are you he should be excited.
I should be excited. I was very impressed with that

(13:48):
Louisville team. And I kind of like Pat Kelsey.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
He's like he's kind of sweet, like a little like doll.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
And then you know, I don't.

Speaker 8 (13:57):
Picture him and Pope.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
I genuinely feel I feel tough spot to put him in.
I do feel bad for him.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
It's like when you see a really tall woman and
they're dating a little short guy, and like I'm they
may have the best personality, but you can't help but
feel a little bit bad for him. I think that's
kind of how it is.

Speaker 7 (14:13):
This program only won what ten games in the last
two years. You've got a good team. You blew out
one of your rivals, Indiana, played your other rival pretty
well on their home floor.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
You should be excited about there. He's like having to
like offer free cheese and crackers to come to the games.

Speaker 5 (14:30):
I feel like, if I'm a Louisville fan, I would
look at that game Saturday and feel good about my
pro to.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
And it just doesn't feel like they're they're doing it.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
I mean, he's he's such a sweet little coal. I mean,
you just, I don't know. You should be excited the
stray Cats though. Your take off mark A five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven the Cats take
down Louisville. We will take your calls. Talk more about
the big weekend and some football news. You know, I

(14:59):
know everybody to be negative, but the football team's gotten
some good commitments this weekend.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
We'll take a break. Beery bags can't.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
Center see Shannon, I thought you were gonna be on
my side on the straight cats because you take all
those straight cats in.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
I like the name and theory, But then you start
talking about a wet matte, matted hair. It's gotta be
wet because he's out in the cold and the rain
and he's eating out of a garbage can.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
Do you still have your straight cat?

Speaker 9 (15:26):
No?

Speaker 3 (15:26):
It wandered off. Let me tell you about this cat.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
It showed up and we started feeding it, which was
a bad idea for anybody.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Yeah, you shouldn't do that.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
So then we Sarah bought it a collar, put a
collar on.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
It's nice.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Bought it a house for outside, Yeah, bought it a
twenty pound bag of cat food.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Cat runs off.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Oh so the cat left.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
We were treating the cat like a king. It just
left us.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
So I mean, so.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
The cat would rather be homeless than hang out with exactly.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
So I'm wondering, is that what's gonna happen with our
basketball team?

Speaker 3 (15:58):
They all just leave?

Speaker 4 (16:00):
You think they all just leave?

Speaker 5 (16:01):
I mean, in the portal era, they may do that,
But wow, I've never heard of someone who couldn't keep a.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Straight Now people are tagging house on Facebook, going, hey,
we found your cat. Well, the cat ran off, like
I can't make the cat stay at my house.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Oh wow, you can't have it rested, come home.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Not my cat cat.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
I guess they are well.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
Speaking of stray cats, what'd you think of the headlock
Mark Pope put Pat Kelsey in?

Speaker 7 (16:27):
First of all, I loved the scuffle that happened, loved it,
loved it. You got you gotta have a little fire,
a little spice. And then this game it is everybody.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Was just like chest out the time, like chest out,
come get some but nobody threw a punch. Nobody. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:40):
So I didn't see it live when Mark Pope appeared
to have Pat Kelsey the headlock, But when that picture
came out, I gotta admit I laughed.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
I mean it's kind of.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
It's kind of it's kind of unfair for Kelsey because
I don't think he really had him in a headlock,
but it kind of looks like he had headlock, and
so it makes poor it makes him look just.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
A little a little little yeah.

Speaker 8 (16:59):
I mean they're just standing next to each other with
Pope had his arm out a little bit, just happens
to look like he's got him in an OVW move.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
That was another one that Wide headlined.

Speaker 8 (17:07):
Again, I can't believe I'm being sympathetic, but just a
tough spot for him to be in at five nothing
and it's like, really, I gotta go against the seven footer.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
I did.

Speaker 8 (17:16):
Like there was one punch thrown. Pope popped Waterman as
he walked by, jokingly because he coached him at BYU.
But if you don't know you coached him at BYU.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Because I didn't see that.

Speaker 8 (17:24):
People on Twitter or even like, why did Pope do that?
But they're very close. Pope were talking about the press conference,
but he kind of gave Waterman a friendly nudge to
the show.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Lub fans are really mad at Garrison. They think he
hit Hepburn in the head earlier. They argue that he
stepped on the guy in that thing. I couldn't see that.
I watched it a couple of times. I didn't really
see him step on. Now he did hit Hepburn. I
don't think it was intentional, like he turned around and
kind of hit him. But if you're mad, you could
say that.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
You know. The Louisville players and.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
Coaches were very complimentary of the atmosphere and can tell
yeah to the game. And if I'm a Louisville fan,
I mean I heard what's his face Edward say, like
I'd like to have another year. I'd like to play
in this again. Like they should give them that atmosphere
at U of L. Right, Like it shouldn't have to
be to come here to have that atmosphere.

Speaker 8 (18:13):
U of L fan should learn from him. He said,
I love the L's down. It made me want to
win the game.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Yeah, I like that.

Speaker 8 (18:19):
Stop being a baby with not being to it. He said,
it added more fuel to the game.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Remember sadder field being. I mean, we don't need to stop.
You won't do it else down it makes me upset.
Don't do it? Hit you pretty hard there actually going
to hr. Yeah, sorry about that.

Speaker 5 (18:35):
But I but I like that they embraced it. I
thought it didn't bother me when they would score and
those guys would like you you're too little. I want
there to be spies. This is the best rivalry in college.
But I don't care what any of these people say.
I've been at Duke Caroline, Duke Carolina. People they study

(18:56):
with each other and then come to the game.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
There's not real. This is real hate.

Speaker 5 (19:02):
This is Matt goes to the bar and people threatened
to punch him just when he walks in. That's real hate.
That doesn't happen at Duke Carolina. I was there for
and in order to keep that, then Louisville has got
a hold up there into the bargain. Their players did
it this time, their coach did it. Now their fans
need to do it. And so that we get back

(19:23):
to where we were.

Speaker 6 (19:24):
How about the Louisville player that flipped us off walking
off the court at halftime.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
You know what I'm okay with. You know what, he
flipped us off. You know you shouldn't flip us off,
but he's into the game. I'm sure our people were
not saying nice things to it. I'm sure they were
not like nice half, sir, way to go. You played
very well, I'm sure, And so you know what, middle
fingers up. I get it. I liked Peyton Siva talking

(19:48):
trash with our fans before the game. Peyton Seva is
a good guy. Drew that you and I were here
like that time when Cal got here twenty ten to
twenty sixteen, that rival he was just and I and
you just like I was so nervous watching the games.
I thought I would spontaneously combust. I want them back

(20:09):
so that we do that. Their players held up the
end of the bargain. Now their fans have to do it.

Speaker 8 (20:14):
Yeah, that's why Saturday was so fun, not just with
the win, just the energy in there were so good.
There could have been more Louisville fans, but you know,
the little fight on the sideline. You don't want to fight,
but when it happens, you know your rivalry's back. A
little bit on the garrison thing, I thought he got
shoved in the back into their bench. I don't think
he was going looking for it, but just the fact
that we had benches clear in a Kentucky Louisville game.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
You know, again, you're not I like it too.

Speaker 8 (20:37):
You don't want to say I go out there and
start a coach. He kind of glad it happened.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Both coaches afterwards said they didn't think it was a
big deal.

Speaker 8 (20:42):
Right Pa said it was one of the better moments
in the game.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
He was fired up. How about right? So, I want
to talk about Mark Pope for a minute. What he
did after the game.

Speaker 5 (20:49):
You you sent out the picture of this, but it's
kind of amazing. He stayed and signed for every person
that waited, including how long are we talking.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
When the game is over?

Speaker 8 (21:01):
So Jack and Zach and I stay several hours after
the game. We're sitting up there in the Crow's nest,
just writing. And I'm not even paying attention at this
point because the postgame.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
Has been over.

Speaker 8 (21:09):
The crowd's cleared, and I look up and I'm nudge
them like he's still down there, and there's probably one
row of Roperina left, like the whole front, end to end,
and he's on his knees going down and signed every
single autograph and at that point watch him get to
the very end and then looks exhausted, goes to leave.
A few security guards want pictures. Mark Pope might still
be at Roperina right now, That's all I mean. Everyone

(21:32):
was leaving and he was still on that court making
sure every last person got a photo over.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
He really, like he said when he got hired, he
understands the assignment. I am not sure that a person
could have a better start to their coaching career than Mark.
He's ten and one. He beat Duke, he beat Louisville,
he beat Gonzaga on the road.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
He sits here he signs. I mean, I think he's
gonna like go Christmas Carol at people's houses. You're gonna
get a knock on the door.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
And Mark Pope's gonna be like Hark the Heveral Dangel scene.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
It's just an awesome like he is. You couldn't have
asked for this to go any better so far. And
I love the fact he brought the team out. The
whole team came out after the game, you know, to
meet the fans. He gets it, man, he understands what
this program means to this fan base.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (22:19):
I didn't want to leave that out. When he had
to do his press conference, you know, he has obligations
in the back. Before he started, I watched him he
grabbed the whole team and let him out the tunnel,
say well I'm back here, you know, go go entertain
and they stayed out there, soning on and it's little things.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
So for instance, this is a little thing, but I
like it. So we win.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
Our guys are on the court, our guys want to
celebrate with the fans. They want to l's down it
Mark Pope. I thought this was actually really classic. He said,
let's wait till their players leave. Then their players left
the court. Then it was L's down all the time. Okay,
so that's like celebrating without tawning.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
I liked it. I just felt like, he, you know,
you separate the wheat. I'm the chav on rivalry day
and I'm not sure Pope could have done it much better.
Well take a break, take your calls right for this KSR. TJ.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Here's Matt Jones walking back.

Speaker 5 (23:20):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at ks Bar. By
the way, great great time here at Ksbar. But all
weekend Saturday was awesome.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Before the game.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
I had a friend who watched the game here who
said it was the loudest they've ever seen this place.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
During the game.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
Nice and then after the game, crab was full during
the postgame show, so a lot of fun. I'm watching
the game here on Saturday against Ohio State. I don't
watch a lot of games here, but I'm watching the
game here Saturday with all my friends for Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
It's like our little Christmas party. We had to draw.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
We got the you know, you get you draw a friend, yes,
to buy their Christmas present? And I drew probably the
person in the group that I know the least, and
so like, that's been racking my brain. What do you
get them?

Speaker 4 (24:02):
Like?

Speaker 5 (24:03):
What do you get somebody you don't really know? But
I think I've got the perfect Oh you do, Yes,
I'm very proud of it.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
Cowboy hat.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
I did not get him a cowboy hat.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
One person writes, Matt, you get this text machine seven
seven two seven seven four five two five four. You
get mad when people say you're too negative. In segment one,
you said, oh, way played bad for thirty six minutes,
Our perimeter defense was awful. We pump fake too much. Yeah,
I think we know why people say you're too negative. Well,
I think you're a snot because because those are all

(24:33):
reasonable things. Yeah, of course I'm thrilled. I mean, I'm
all I'm doing is being happy that we won and
talking about how Pope has I literally said, Pope has
been perfect. But you know, if you just want me
to come on and go everything always great, then why
would this show be interesting?

Speaker 4 (24:48):
Just like, say, so, how did how did you know
Amari play great? How did Braya played great? That's boring.
They do have weaknesses, but we still won. We're ten
and one and we have the best offense in the
country and there's still room drew for this team to improve.

Speaker 8 (25:06):
Yes, they're awesome. We beat Louisville. We love beating Louisville.
It's actually my favorite thing in the world. But I
can also say that and go, man, sixty four percent
from the free throw line, that could be a little better.
It could be a problem. Yeah, And then I'm not
being negative. I'm just trying to We're trying to reach
perfection here.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
And then remember in football season when I said, you know,
there's a way we could go nine and three people
go so you got our hope to man, Like you know,
I just tell you what I think, which is I love.
I love watching this team. I mean I genuinely love
watching this team. They are so much fun.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
After the last few years where even though I loved
individual players, sometimes watching them was like a slog to
try to get through.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
The games, this team is a ton of fun to watch.

Speaker 7 (25:47):
We know, we're just breaking down the game. And like
you and I said during the break, Kentucky didn't shoot
the ball that well from three and yet they still
scored ninety three points. You know, that shocks me that
this team was able to score that many points.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Bad scoring day three, that's pretty amazing.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Who's up first, Let's go to Nate.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
Nate.

Speaker 9 (26:03):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Nate?

Speaker 9 (26:06):
Hey? What's up?

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Guys?

Speaker 10 (26:07):
This is Nate from the Director of Energy.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
Preparata there, he is Director of Energy.

Speaker 10 (26:12):
All right, Nate, So last week I called and I
gave a little stone cold, but my buddies said, man,
you need to call again and be stone code, because that's.

Speaker 9 (26:22):
You can do perfect.

Speaker 10 (26:24):
So I want to give him a pression of stone
colde cutting a promo about the Louisville game.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
Is that? Shenon Shannon? Do we want to do this?

Speaker 3 (26:31):
I know you hate impersonations.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
Impersonations rarely work.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
All Right, here's the thing. I'm gonna let you start,
but Nate, I love you, but if it's not good,
I'm just gonna cut you off and then we can
do normal calls from now on.

Speaker 11 (26:47):
Okay, Okay, that's fine, that's all right, go ahead, Kentucky
Louisville Sun walked into Saturday broparita.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
Somebody's ass.

Speaker 9 (27:01):
We went.

Speaker 5 (27:03):
I aciate so, like you know, I mean, but he's
had defeated doing. I mean, it's you know, it's fine,
but like there are people who could do it better
than that. By the way, I'm gonna talk about the
whole thing with the fan and the police and the security.
I'm gonna get into all that. I'm'll do it in
the second hour, so I'm not skipping over that. I

(27:23):
know that's a big online topic, but i want to
like handle it completely, and so I'm gonna wait till
the to the second hour.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Same thing.

Speaker 5 (27:31):
I want to talk about the football Vince Marrow situation,
but I'm also gonna wait till the second hour so
that we have time for both of those. Just so
you know, I'm not ignoring that because I do think
that's important.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
But we got some other stuff I want to want
to do.

Speaker 7 (27:43):
I get it, but I am anxious to hear the
updates you may have. Why are you anxious because I've
not heard any updates since we had our pregame show.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
Are you talking about Vince or the thing with the fan?
Do you even let me ask you quit? Do you
even know what happened with the fans?

Speaker 11 (27:56):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Yeah, okay, good, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (27:59):
I just didn't know if if you hauld consistently checked
the internet to see if, if what it happened.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
I was bored last night, so I, you know, pulling
around what was going on?

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Well good.

Speaker 8 (28:08):
I did like Ryan's tweet when Pat Kelsey yelled at
the ref you're not being consistent? Would you just r retweeted?
As it happens? The best is a good tweet? Did
you What did you think of the officiating? Was it
fun to watch Pat Adams? So that was that was
a Pat Adams special one. And they really don't want
to bring up officiating when you win a rivalry game
like that, you just want to be happy to move on.
But Pat Adams, the Pat experience just continues.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
He he's the worst, Like not because he's a terrible ref.
I mean, I don't think he's great, but I also
don't think he's the worst. What I don't like about
Pat Adams is that it's he's a little bit like
Patch Adams as a referee. You know how you'd watch
Patch Adams. You go Robin Williams man, like calm down,

(28:51):
like you don't. I'm in the hospital. You don't have
to put that nose on and scream at me all
the time, like Pat Adams is just always in your
face that call or the referee called the foul on Louisville,
and Pat Adams ran from the other side of the
floor and told the official that he had called it
on the wrong person and then he was wrong. To me,

(29:12):
was like the best summary of Pat Adams Ryan I've
ever seen.

Speaker 7 (29:16):
Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. That kind of
typifies what Pat Adams is all about. When he goes
other end of the court almost and he comes running
in to change the call in front of the guy
who has called it right in front of him.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
And on that Jackson Robinson shooting it over the backboard.
He may have shot it over the backboard. I don't understand,
by the way, why that's a rule. Why is that
against the rules to shoot it over there? I'm serious.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
I've never thought it was guys in the corner. Sometimes
I thought it would kind of go over the backboard.

Speaker 6 (29:41):
A little bit.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
I think it is against the rule, but I don't
know why. First of all, it's not an advantage.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
No one's going to choose to shoot it from behind
the backboard, right, I mean, it's not an advantage. Secondly,
it's a complete judgment call like who knows what. And third,
Pat Adam was standing in the upper level he called
that like he was.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Nowhere close to that call. The the baseline doesn't even
call it.

Speaker 8 (30:09):
I was the far opposite corner of Reperena. I couldn't
have been farther away and Reperena and Pat was like
right in front of him, and he running.

Speaker 5 (30:15):
And he came running angle imagine one. And then even
when he does a little thing like a review, he
can't just say call has been reversed. He reads a
Dickens novel in telling you that the call like he
is annoying.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (30:31):
Someone that was circulating on social media. I don't who
posted it first, but I was reminded of Cal had
that game where he runs up to the other official
talk about Pat Adams and you can read his list
playing his day. He just goes, he is the worst official,
like Cal's was saying that years ago.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
He really is. It's it's an unbelievable thing with him,
and he's as soon as that's the amount of game,
I go, it's the Pat Adams show.

Speaker 7 (30:52):
Who used to say that about Doug Shalls. It seems
like now's become Pat Adams we all feel that way about.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
When it came out yesterday, I had a Tennessee fan
who probably didn't even watch the text me from Knoxville
enjoy Pad Adams today.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
It's like people just know went to Pad Adams, Pad
Adam experience. Who's next?

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Jay and Lindon, Jay and Lindon go ahead?

Speaker 9 (31:10):
He got two quick things with no impressions. First, it's
really refreshing that we don't have excuses. I mean, you
haven't heard Mark Pope once today. We weren't ready for this.
We shot seventy percent in the first half. We could
have easily been like, oh man, we shot ourselves out.
We're gonna look back and la Momt Butler not being
at the Kuntaga game, and that's winning is unbelievable to

(31:31):
me right now.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
It really is unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (31:32):
To beat Gonzaga without Lamont Butler is kind of crazy
if you think about it and.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
Then lose crisa halfway through the second half.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
Yeah, No, you're right, Jay, And I like, I'm with you.
I like, there's no excuses, you know, he just Pope
just moves forward, and I think that's a lot better
than looking backward, which is what I think sometimes used to.

Speaker 9 (31:50):
Happen, Matt. The other thing you noted after the post
on the postgame show is we are not gonna have
a lot of pros to follow. But I'll tell you
what's gonna be neat. We've got a lot of future
coaches on this team.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
That may be true. Yeah, I could see that. I
can see us.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
I could see appreciate it, Jay, I could see us
having coaches. I don't think some people disagree with me
on this, and I hope I'm wrong. I don't think
we have any pros on this team. I mean, I
don't think any of these guys are gonna be NBA
players that they can play professionally overseas or you know,
some of them may be in the G League. I
don't think there's gonna be a pro on this team.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
But I don't care.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
Like they're fun and they're great college players. And you know,
I was watching highlights of John Wall his freshman year
against Yukon, and I was watching it in the highlights,
this was on TikTok. John Wall was amazing, Like his
first step was amazing. He's the fastest player I've seen

(32:48):
on the court. In the highlights, you would think he's
the best player you've ever seen, and we beat you coming.
But the final score was sixty four sixty.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
Two, and we shot twenty nine percent. And I was thinking,
like John Wall was amazing and that team had a
ton of talent. But we still shot twenty nine percent
and we still only won by two points. This is different.
This is not the moment you go WHOA. But we
scored ninety three and it's still very fun.

Speaker 7 (33:19):
To watch because they have a very high basketball IQ
and they execute their offense. They're very efficient in executing
their offense. That's the difference, you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (33:28):
And they can they're talented at this game. Even if
they're not the talents for the future in the NBA,
their talent for this that was.

Speaker 8 (33:36):
My big thing before we even knew he'd beat Duke
and liul Voy, that Pope would even work out when
people were having them. There's no pros on this roster.
It's like, Okay, I'm excited about that. We've had pros
on several rosters. We had lots of pros on last
year's roster. I'm ready for something new. I'm ready to
not have pros for a little while and see how
the college you guys.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
You know, it's a different kind of team, but it's
one I really enjoy watching. The Kentucky Chamber has highlighted
the massive economic impact of housing. You're a realtor, you
know that all about it and Kentucky. It drives economic
growth and supports over one hundred thousand jobs in the state.
Kentucky Chamber has more information and would like to hear
what you think about affordable housing. Ky Chamber dot com

(34:15):
slash housing to talk about the biggest housing issue in
your community. It is ky Chamber dot com slash housing.
We're gonna take a break and be right back. We
are here at Kspargrills, Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. All right. So, uh, Shannon,
I really like this song a lot.

Speaker 6 (34:35):
I do too.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Yeah, never going back, never.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
Going back again.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
And you know how sometimes you'll like something and then
it's like the whole rest of the world discovers it.
I've liked this song for years and now on TikTok
this has become a big thing. People say, Shannon, this
is the hardest song to play on guitar.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
You're a guitar, Yeah, do you think it is.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
It's definitely up there. I mean it's kind of like
a Simon and Garfunkel type song.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
Yeh, never turn it up just a little bit.

Speaker 5 (34:59):
People say this little riff is impossible to play? Now,
why is that so hard? Because when I hear that,
it seems pretty basic to me. But like, there are

(35:19):
all these TikTok videos now of guitar players trying to
play it and learning it and saying this is like
the hardest thing to play. So you're, you know, you know, guitar,
Why is that so hard to play?

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Sounds like there's a lot of finger picking going on
instead of just regular, you know, picking with a guitar pick.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
There's something to do any.

Speaker 6 (35:36):
Of you know, I do not play the guitar.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
I do not know, but like literally, if you go
on TikTok, it's on my algorithm. Now.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
It's just person after person trying to learn to play
this and like not being able to do it. Yeah,
And I was reading some comment sections and there are
people who say, I guess there are different styles of
guitar playing. I don't know, but there's something called finger
licking good or something like that, and whatever that style
is Drew. This is supposedly the hardest song to play.

Speaker 8 (36:04):
Shows how a little I know about the guitar, because
I wouldn't. This doesn't sound like it would be.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
It doesn't sound like to me. I like it because
he goes been down one time, been down two time.
I like that. But apparently that's not the that's not
what makes her hard.

Speaker 6 (36:17):
I've heard that I would not know it unless you
brought it up today, that this is a you know.

Speaker 5 (36:21):
Well, now you know, so maybe you should learn how
to do it and then you can say you've played
the hardest song in the world.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
I was gonna say, I'll try that maybe later on
tonight and I'll video.

Speaker 5 (36:30):
The guitar, okay, because it's because because you know, people say,
people are saying it's hard. If I'm nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven, one person rates Matt Matt
Mark Pope is not allergic to the rivalry. He embraces it.
He doesn't say it's like any other game, and I
love that. I loved all that. I love the whole
angle about it. For years, cal be like, oh it's

(36:50):
just any other game. No it's not, it's not. No,
it's not. Don't say it is. I don't like when
people say it is. It's not like any other game.
It's different, and UK handled it like it was different.
This year they did the video with all the former players.
I know it made you cry, right.

Speaker 7 (37:04):
I literally got a lump in my throat when I
watched that video of the former players writing a letter
addressing it to the current.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
Rammel was narrating it, and you just say, you.

Speaker 5 (37:12):
Said the moment you see like Tayshaan and Patrick Sparks,
you like weep like a like a bake, Kenny.

Speaker 7 (37:18):
Walker, Jim Master, these guys, Darren Feldhouse, John Pelfrey.

Speaker 6 (37:22):
It I got chili bumps literally right now.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
Chili bumps is not a word. It was awesome.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
It's goosebumps or you get chills, and you always combined
chili bumps.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
That's not a thing.

Speaker 6 (37:33):
It takes goosebumps to another level.

Speaker 5 (37:35):
No, no, it's not like goosebumps with spice. By the way,
did you see the story that our peppers are not
as spicy?

Speaker 4 (37:42):
Did you know that? No? Has anybody seen this?

Speaker 5 (37:46):
So the peppers in the last year or two, the
peppers that come from Mexico and from South America, Latin
air are not as spicy because of because of something
about climate, like the climate they're changing a little bit
because of climate change. It's making it to where the
peppers are not quite as spicy. Seal as chefs who
rely on the really spicy ones are very upset they

(38:07):
can't get the peppers that they used to get.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
I don't know why. But nevertheless, did you.

Speaker 8 (38:13):
Like the way we embraced this being a ron I
thought you were going to ask all spicy peppers, love
spicy peppers, and yes, I love embracing the rivalry, and
to tie two of those topics together, not peppers, but
that letter video and then saying the game is more important.
Some of the players, at least two or three in
that video specifically said this is not another game. Don't
say it's another game.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
This is bigger. It means more.

Speaker 8 (38:33):
It's one of the biggest rivalry in sports. So when
people try to do the it's just the next one
on the schedule. We haven't thought about it. You're lying
and you're wrong.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
Yes, you're lying.

Speaker 5 (38:42):
Well, you're either lying or you're not sort of taught
what it is to play here. I mean, I never
liked when these guys would come and go, Yeah, I've
never really thought about the game.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
You know who's a little like No.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
I mean, ultimately one day You're the great thing about
college back basketball or college sports in general. You're part
of something, even if you're just here for a year,
you're part of something.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
And part of what that is is the Louisville game.
It's part of it.

Speaker 7 (39:11):
There's a great story that after Kentucky won the ninety
eight National Championship with the comeback Cats in Tubby, Bill
Kytley was going around, Yeah, you know.

Speaker 6 (39:19):
What, you didn't beat Louisville. That's what that game means.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
A great story.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
Yeah, it's a great story. You just won the national title,
but you know what, you didn't beat Louisville.

Speaker 5 (39:29):
I feel like that was a little harsh by him.
I'd rather have the national title than beat Louisville.

Speaker 7 (39:34):
We know Pope played in two of these games, lost
one one one, so you know he gets it. He
played in that Saomaki Walker game that they lost.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
And oh yeah, the crazy game. You have a triple double.

Speaker 8 (39:45):
Pope brought that up.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
I think Samaki Walker had a triple double, triple double
game or something.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
Are very close to it.

Speaker 7 (39:51):
It's funny how these games get labeled. That's the Samaki
Walker game. We had, the Patrick Sparks game.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
We talked about that on the postgame show.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
I think Lamont Butler now joins like a group.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
They're the Louisville game guys.

Speaker 5 (40:04):
Yep, So like you go back Jim Master, Jim Masters,
Cedric Jenkins. I mean Cedric Jenkins is remembered because he
got that tap in against Louisville and then guys like
Patrick Sparks with the free throws, Dominique Hawkins.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
The card killer, right, Jeorts.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
Jorts had a major game in that Tyler Eulis with
the blood coming down his face, Willie with the steel
and the dunk against montres Harrell. Derek Anderson gets his
dunk and does his little dance, although the dance was
against Indiana, but he got a dunk against Louisville as well.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
Lamtt Butler's now in that group.

Speaker 5 (40:40):
Like like when we think Antonio Reeves had thirty last year,
we didn't know if we'd ever see thirty again. Lamont
Butler gets it the next year, Like, I mean he
enters that group.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (40:49):
I think Derek Miller has the record for points in
the series. But I think Lamont might have just taken
the headline as the best of all the MVP performances rex.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
His freshman year way the game against the Louisville.

Speaker 8 (41:01):
Shae became Shay in that game. It gets kind of
forgotten because I think that was the year the Music
City Bowl was at the same time was a forgotten
Louisville game. But yeah, that was Shae's breakout performance a
few years ago. And uh, look at the history books,
SAMOACKI Walker did have a triple double. Yeah, Pope with
nine and ten. Though Pope was in there banging with it.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
So I I you know, this one won't be remembered
like the best of the best, but it is I.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
Think one that will. I mean Lamont Butler will.

Speaker 5 (41:32):
In twenty years when the guy who's guys who are
doing this show instead of us are going through those
I do think Lamont Butler's name will now be in
that little group.

Speaker 6 (41:42):
You're saying, I gotta find another job in twenty years.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
Nobody wants to listen to you at seventy five. Oh,
I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
Oh can you imagine?

Speaker 5 (41:51):
We can imagine the things he's gonna say when he's
seventy five.

Speaker 6 (41:55):
I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Yeah, I mean, I.

Speaker 8 (41:57):
Feel like it's going to get that in writing.

Speaker 5 (41:59):
You know that, I'll let you. I think that'll be
a different show. I mean, I'm not doing I'm not
gonna be.

Speaker 4 (42:04):
Doing this in twenty years. If you do it, you
are alert. Why would you want to do this in
twenty I gotta make money. I gotta survive in social security. Actually,
it's not gonna exist now. You're making it even feel
more on number one in twenty years. Yeah, I mean exactly,
old man rants into the radio. It'll be a perfect show.

(42:25):
People will love it.

Speaker 6 (42:26):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (42:26):
I'm all right if I'm nine, twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
We're gonna talk about the guys, uh, the standing at RUP,
and then the latest on Vince Merrow.

Speaker 4 (42:35):
That's next.
