Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Welcome Back out number two Kentucky Sports Radio AFIM nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven uh text Machine
seven seven two seven to seven four five two five four.
One person writes, Matt, the reason that song is so
hard is because you're playing a different bass and treble line.
It is the Merle Travis style of playing, named after
(01:25):
Muhlenberg County's Merle Travis. How about that?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
This is a good knowledge that I've not even heard
any hint of.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
It's like the person says, it's like you're playing two
different songs and it's hard for one brain to play
them both at the same time.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
It's all those brains in Muhlenberg County.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
That's right by in Muhlenberg County. You can have two brains.
How about that?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I would like to see Ryan try to play it, though, No,
that would be a good shay.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
You're the guitar player.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
He's one.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
I just wanted to learn to play guitar, but I
just don't feel like my fingers, uh you know. And
he did it without a without a pick.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
This is gonna have a lot of time and patience.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah, he did it with the was it? Lindsey Buckingham.
Is that the guy in Fleetwood, mass He did it
without a pick? He was like, well, he's.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Supposed to use a pick. I guess, is that what
this Merle Travis did?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
No, you're not supposed to it's it's it's harder he he,
it's harder to use your fingers than to use a pick.
And so they were doing just fingers. Wow, they were
just finger you know, just looking good, just banging it out.
And so that's a badass run. Yeah, that's exactly right.

five four. Are we need to talk about what happened
with the with the guy in the States? Yeah, okay,
because this is I think the thing everybody wants to
talk about. Now. Let me just say part of the
reason I didn't weigh in on this online is because
I don't think a lot of people like I don't
know exactly what happened. I think a lot of people
are very you have to be very quit, very sure,
(02:55):
like when you rush to judgment, to make sure you
actually know what happened, because a lot of times people
they just roll with it. So I'm just gonna show
you what it looks like from my end. Okay, but
with the understanding that, like, none of this is confirmed.
I'm big on people if they want to stand during
the game stand during the game. It looks to me
(03:16):
like there was a guy in the crowd who's like,
I'm standing the whole game and everybody else is up
and they're down, and they're up and they're down, and
he's just he's just standing. Then I guess someone complains
to security. They call a blue coat, who then calls
a police officer, and there is a video of a
(03:38):
police officer walking down and telling this person to sit down. Now,
the problem for the police officer is he's sitting there
telling this guy to sit down, but there are plays
happening during the game, and then the fight happens and
everybody stands up, so everybody's standing up and he's telling
this guy to sit down, and I think the guy's like, well,
these people are standing up, and he's like, well, no,
(04:00):
you sit down. And now this is the allegedly part.
I can't see this on video, so like you, I didn't.
But that's what makes it hard because I can't see
this on video. But the allegation is that the police
officer says, you will spend the night in jail if
you don't sit down. So here's my take on it.
(04:22):
And then there's a video floating around of a guy
flipping off the crowd who's basically alleged to be the
one that complained. I don't know if he is. I
don't know if he's just flipping people off because he
likes to flip people off. I don't I don't up. Yeah,
nails down, fingers up. We have got to stop punishing
(04:42):
our fans for cheering and being loud. The idea that
you would contemplate sending someone to prison for standing during
the game is absolutely ludicrous. If the police officer said that,
And again I don't know if he did, but if
(05:03):
he did, that's ridiculous, all right. I don't even think
it's a I'm trying to think what is the crime
like standing? I don't even know what the crime would be. Now,
I do want people to understand you can be kicked
out of a game, and you don't have quote unquote
free speech rights during a game. If the Blue Coats
(05:26):
want to kick you out, you can be kicked out.
So I want you to understand, like the people who
are like this violating my rights. Respectfully, when I see
somebody say that they don't know what their rights are, Okay,
they can kick you out, but that's different than whether
they should kick you out. They should not kick you
out for standing. And a police officer saying they can
(05:47):
put you in jail, come on, man, like take a
like chill out, all right, take you get to jail
for standing during a game. But there's a bigger problem here, Drew,
which is this idea that we're gonna try to punish
people for being excited and into a game. Isn't a
jerk move to stand and cheer the whole game? I
(06:10):
would say no, but I could understand how somebody would
be like, well, if you're the only one standing, dude, whatever.
But this idea that we're calling the security and all this, like,
I just think it's ridiculous. Go watch these other teams.
Their teams are staying in the whole game. We do
not have some special special privilege at Kentucky to sit
(06:33):
like it's a play. This is a basketball game. If
you want to sit, go sit during Wicked at the
Opera House. This is a basketball game.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
That was pretty embarrassing the fact that if police officer
had to come over, I'm surprised, but he shouldn't have
done it. I agree, I surprised, but not being mocked
more online. As we're supposed to be this great fan
base and we have police officers coming over because you're
standing up. Whoever reported it needs to be embarrassed and
ashamed of themselves. I'm sorry your view might have been
obstructed for a little bit. It's a fan cheering for
(07:04):
the team you want to win. Maybe you stand up
and cheer with them. But the fact that a cop
got involved is outrageous.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
What the cop? What he thought he could charge him with? Like? Standing?
What's the crime?
Speaker 4 (07:16):
That's my thing?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Do you do?
Speaker 4 (07:17):
You get a tear drop for that? Like when you
get in the when you get in the cell, you're like, hey, man, what.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Are you in for?
Speaker 4 (07:23):
I was standing at the Kentucky Oble game.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Don't mess with me standing.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Standing is not You can't get charged with standing. That's
why it was so crazy to me. It got to
that level at one of the biggest games on the
home schedule.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
All right, Ryan, you're old, thank you, so do you
have any sympathy for the older fans who are like
I just want to sit. These whipper snappers are are standing.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
You know, we've we've all seen fans get removed if
they're vulgar, bad language, maybe trying to pick a fight,
maybe even drunk. We've seen that and all it. Things
like this guy, none of that if you just cheering
on the cats. So for me as an older person,
since you label me that, I do try to be
at least considerate. I stand up some, but then when
(08:08):
there's no break, there's nothing on, I'll sit back down.
You know, I don't want to block the person behind
me all the time, but I'm gonna stand up when
I cheer, and then when the plays over, maybe I'll
sit back down.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
So do you not Okay, I think most people would
agree with that. But if there's a person who just
wants to stand the whole game, what's your thought on that.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I mean, like you said, you're a game if and
if you get stuck behind the guy that's doing that,
you just stand up. Also, you know there's no an
old crime and said you have to sit in your
chair the whole time, stand up and support your team.
Look just like that guy's.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Doing so you're you're on that guy side.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I'm on that guy side.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Okay, I'm ninety five percent on that guy side. I
still there's a part of me that if there's like
a little old lady sitting there, you gotta be considerate.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
There's a part of me.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
That's like I would try to be considered. Yeah, but
the video of the person or the picture of the
person that allegedly again I say allegedly because I don't
know for sure, flip the person off and told the
police he looks like he's younger than the guy that
was standing. Yes, So like it was more just like
I don't want to stand up. I have less sympathy
for that. Yeah, I mean, be a little self aware.
(09:16):
If the person behind you can't stand up, maybe take
some breaks. Yeah, turn around and tell him I'm gonna
do my best work it out between you. But outside
of a scenario were someone's handicap or just they're unable
to stand.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Sorry, I mean. I went to see Tyler Childers on
New Year's Either Up. The couple in front of me
stood the whole time. I watched the entire concert on
the jumbo tron. I'm not sure I even saw Tyler Childers,
even though I was in there with a ticket and
it sucked. But oh well, that's what happens when you
go to an event, and that's what happens when you
leave your house. Just like one other thing, when you leave.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Your house, something may not always be perfect. I mean
you hear me complain. I don't like lines, I don't
like traffic, and I don't like a lot of people.
But you know what, when you leave your house, that's
part of it is that you might have to deal
with some things that aren't exactly the way.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
You'd want, especially a rivalry game, sporting events.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Yeah, there's a couple of things that really bother me.
And like, sound like all you guys at about what happened.
The police officer trying to arrest a guy for standing
up at a game is ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Well, I don't think he would arrest him because I
don't think you can. I think that was just him
going like can you imagine him going to his captain
and say, I rested this dude for cheering during the game.
I mean, come on, aggravated standing.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yeah, so what about the blue coat guy that goes
down and tries to get him to say down.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
The blue coats are in a tough position, right, Like
the university has to make a decision. This is at
a university level. The university's gonna have to decide are
we gonna encourage our fans to stand or not. Ultimately,
the blue coats are just enforcing whatever the university policy. Right.
So the actually the people I blame the least are
the blue coats. The blue coats are told what to do,
(10:57):
they're just doing it. The cops should know better. Okay,
the cop is enforcing the law, and the law does
not say you can arrest people for standing. So I
do have some blame on the cop. I do think
the university's got to be clear about what we're encouraging.
You can't have you know, Cal last year would say
stand for the old thing. Well, you can't have the
university encouraging people to do it, and then blue coats
(11:20):
enforcing people to sit down. Yep. So the blue coats
are in a tough position because if the university is
telling them, if people are obstructing the aisle, have them
sit down, what are they supposed to do? So I
actually blame that the administration and the police officer. I
don't really blame the blue coat because I don't really
know Drew what they're supposed to do.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Yeah, they're at a tough spot and they're not threatening
to take anyone to jail. They're just trying to, you know,
maintain a little order and reparna based on whatever they've
been told. They need to have a meeting probably already
are to figure out what the standing policy is so
this doesn't keep happening. We even have a first game
we've heard had fans tell us they were told to sit.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
The policy needs to be Encourage people to be loud.
Do you this is college basketball? Okay, this is college basketball.
I was in a Knicks game last year. A lot
of their fans stand, and it's the pros. This is
college They stand at Duke, they stand in Kansas, they
stand at Auburn, like they stand at the best environments.
(12:19):
Do you want rup to be one of those environments?
Then encourage people to stand.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
You want them to be like North Carolina or they don't.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
They's the worst environment in modern the worst environment in
big time college basketball is North Carolina. And it's because
they have the attitude that we're talking about. I don't
want to see us go down with your path. I'm
with you. Who's up first, Let's go to Caleb. Caleb,
go ahead, Caleb, all right.
Speaker 5 (12:45):
I was like, you're the one who the officer came
down and told he was gonna rest for standing in
the game.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Oh you were the guys? Yeah? Yeah, okay, so explain. Well,
I tell you what, you know what. I want to
talk to you for a minute and I'll have to
go to break. So will you hold and I'll start
the next segment with you? Is that okay? Yeah, that's okay.
I'm gonna take a quest. I'm gonna do this ad chanton.
We'll take an early break and then I'll talk to him. Hey,
(13:13):
you wouldn't buy tickets to the big game and not go,
So why would you pay for your health benefits and
not use him?
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Court physical therapy?
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Once to let you know that if you've met your
deductible this year, you may be able to receive physical
therapy an extreme discount benefits. Reset January first, so get
in before the new year. It's court dot com. It's
ko rt dot com, seventy locations around the state. It's
court dot com. We'll talk to the guy who they
threatened to say, you're spending the night in the pokey.
(13:41):
What are you laughing at?
Speaker 6 (13:42):
This?
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Said?
Speaker 3 (13:43):
You don't you never heard the jail called the poke.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
You've heard it called the pokey the old Western movies.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
In the fifty old Western movie Mario. You ever heard
it called a pokey? See, there you go, it's official name.
For get. That's right, We're gonna put you in the paddywagon,
take you the pokey. Right after this, welcome back Techi
Sports Radio. All right, so Caleb here is on the phone.
He says he was the guy that they that they
(14:11):
told to sit down. So Caleb, go ahead. First of all,
how old are you, Caleb?
Speaker 5 (14:16):
I'm twenty three?
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Twenty three al right, so you're all right, So you're
a senior and you were sitting in non student seats?
Am I right? Yes?
Speaker 7 (14:26):
I think we're in row twelve.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
What section are we talking? Kay? K, that's not a section.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
We're like twelve twelve ros backs on the floor.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Okay, So you don't know what's sectional? All right? Either way?
You so? Did you?
Speaker 4 (14:47):
So?
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Were you standing the whole game? Now?
Speaker 5 (14:52):
I stood for the first two minutes of the game,
and a bunch of the fans behind me were yelling
to sit down, and then one of the came down
and told me that I had to sit down there
I was going to be kicked out. So I sat
down into like standing up periodically. But I sat down
until there was ten minutes left in the game, and
then that's when I stood back up and remained standing
(15:14):
even though the people behind me were yelling to sit down.
But I also talked to the people who were the
direct row behind me, and they said that they don't
mind if I stand, and they said it's completely are you.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Were you standing by yourself or were there other people
with you?
Speaker 5 (15:30):
I mean, one of my friends was with me. He
stood periodically, but but for most time.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Okay, So tell me what did the police officer say
when he came down to you.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
He came down and told me that if I didn't
sit down, I was going to be arrested and taking
a jail.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
And did he say on what charge?
Speaker 8 (15:51):
I asked him.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
I asked him why you were taking me to jail.
I was like, I didn't know the crime to stand
and he was like, you'll find out.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
If it's a crime, you'll find out. And then whenever
we by the way, that's not a good thing for
an officer. This is a general habit you'll find out
if it's a crime. Would not be the best thing
to say. All right, So then what happened?
Speaker 5 (16:12):
So I sat down, But at this point there was
I think around seven minutes left in the game, and
I stood up periodically, and then around two minutes everybody
stood for the rest of the game.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
So then following you did end up following what the
what the officer said?
Speaker 5 (16:29):
I mean, I wasn't trying to go to jail.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I understand.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
I was honestly kind of worried about what you're going
to do if I did.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I understand that. I understand that. Okay, So so how
many people would you say overall we're complaining?
Speaker 5 (16:45):
Uh, there was just that main dude that you all
saw the picture of giving me the finger, and my
friend that was sitting next to me, I actually took
the picture of that dude flicking me off.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
So you're saying that was the dude, and that the
dude whose picture that what you're saying that was him?
Speaker 5 (17:02):
Yes, that was the one who talked. I either told
the blue conder the officer, and he told us if
we didn't sit down he was gonna come down there
and make it sit down.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Well that's not good, all right? Well okay, so I
first of all, Caleb, I appreciate you you telling us
the information. Do you have any like final thought on
it at all?
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I mean, I think something to be done where it
changes because I was just trying to support my team
and that was the first game I'd ever been to,
so I kind of blew my mind whenever I got there.
In two minutes into the game, I was being yelled
at to sit down for just standing and cheering.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
All right, Caleb, appreciate the call. So what are your
thoughts after hearing that anything?
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Yes, The one thing I liked the most is that
he asked the people sitting right behind him to me
he showed some respect for the people behind him. They
said they didn't care. I think that goes a long
way with people supporting him wanting to stand up a
cheer for the team.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
So we do, I think have to collectively decide as
a fan base are you good with this or not?
Because it's gonna keep happening it now, I mean, like
this has become enough of a thing. This is gonna
keep happening. Like at the Brown game. There's gonna be
some people who are just like, I'm gonna stand up,
and there's gonna be some people that yell like this
is gonna happen. We I think UK is gonna have
(18:20):
to decide are you good with this or not? And
I'll be very disappointed if you k stands up and
says don't. I mean, you can't have rules that depend
on the moment, so you can't be like, well you
can stand sometimes but not all the time. Well who
gets to decide when you stand? Like you just gonna
have to say yes, you can stand, and everybody else
just has to deal with it.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Right, Yep, that's the position I would take. My two
takeaways for the interview is the police officer needs to
change his h was it, stand around and find out
philosophy he's got where.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I mean, you'll come on, keep.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
Standing there because that's a crime.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
My mom won't like to hear me say this. But
if an officer looked at me and said you'll find out,
I'd be like, all right, come on, man.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
I understand why they could do what he did his
first game, but me, being a little hard headed, I
would have probably tried to see where that would have
gone next. I want to know what the charge for
why he didn't. But here people the thought of going
to jail. I mean, that's scared, but for standing. I
would have might have seen that one through. But my
biggest takeaway was that the guy complaining is even farther
back that it's not even.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
That obstructed, not behind right.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
I don't know how many roads back he was.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
So what would you say about that guy? The guy
who the guy who puts.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
You boy pants on, is what I would say to him.
Watch it from your team, dude, would you say that
to him for not big enough to stand up?
Speaker 3 (19:38):
I would sayres getting tough over here? Boy paints.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Well, someone needs to say that you're at a college
basketball game and you're getting the usher because someone who's
not even directly in front of you is standing up.
That's not even your problem. That's the problem directly behind
him who he said he worked it out with them. So, Drew,
how far how far back behind someone do you have
to be to complain to not complain?
Speaker 3 (20:04):
So let's talk about what all of our reactions would
have been if we were Caleb Drew says he would
see it out. I know exactly what I would do.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
You would see it out I would.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
I would. I would tell a guy I'm standing up
and you should too. And then when the officer came,
I'm not going to jail, but I'd be like, dude,
you're gonna have to tell me what you're charging me with.
Then if he cites a statute Channon, I might sit down.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Yeah, I don't think there is one for standing.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Here's probably not a standing in public.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
But I will say, I'm not like, I'm not gonna
fight it just for the sake of it, but I
Am going to argue it out, and then maybe at
some point sit down.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (20:39):
I'm doing what Caleb did for most of the game,
standing up in moments, but then respectfully sitting back down.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
But what about the moment where you decide you're gonna
stay in the last ten minutes? What are you gonna
do when the officer comes. You're sitting down. I know
you you're sitting I'm sitting down.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
I think you talk about the university trying to make
a decision. It's gonna be tough because, as we know,
most of those people that sit in the lower arena
are the donors, the boosters the one to provide you're
sitting down, I'm sitting.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
There, Shannon, are you sitting or stay it.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
The first time he comes to me with a lot
of time left in the game, I might sit down
just because I don't want to get thrown out of
the game. But towards the end of the game, the
game's almost over anyway. I know he's not gonna put
me in jail, so I'm not worried about that. So
I would stand at the end of the game, and
that's where I would challenge him to put me in jail,
because I'd have one hell of a story on Monday.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
People. Shannon goes, so this is a good scale, all right,
Shannon is put me in the put me in the pokey.
He's at the far end. Let's go, Drew is the
I'd like to see it out because it's a good experience.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
I want to know what I'm getting charged with.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
I'm ay, I don't want to go to jail, but
I'll argue with you, right and Ryan is, yes, Officer,
I'm gonna sitting right down. So that's really that's honestly,
the four of us. That scale is a really good
sort of example of our personalities. Shannon is the clash
fight the powers that be. Drew is this will be fun,
(22:01):
let's play, let's go. Matt is let's argue, but I
don't want my mom mad at me. And Ryan is yes, sir.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Yes, sir. I think that's very good of our personal talk.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
About standing at the biggest game on the schedule.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Standing. All right, last call, who's up next? Let's go
to Jackson Jackson. I got about a minute.
Speaker 9 (22:23):
Go ahead, Hey, how are you doing good?
Speaker 8 (22:26):
First time?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Long time who I.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
Just wanted to say this week And I came into
the bar for the first time and I met Mario
and everyone, and everyone was just so awesome. I really
like what's going on with this year with UK. I'm
twenty four years old, so this is the first time
that I've seen a new coach. I feel fully invested
in the program, which is really good. Vibes around everything now.
Speaker 8 (22:48):
And also I don't know.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
If they could charge Taylob with disturbing the piece idea,
but that's all guys.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Yeah, get disturbing the piece. I appreciate the call not
a collective that you can just put any behavior in
and say is disturbing the piece. I mean, if I
were to be the most sympathetic to the cop as
to what he could charge him with, he could say,
you're in a building and you're being told by the
people in the building to do something and you're not
(23:18):
doing it, and so there might be some kind of
maybe disturbing the piece in that. But the officer's got
to know better than that, Like, that's not worth it.
Whether you can or not, it's not worth doing that.
We're gonna talk a little bit of football when we
return it. Well, Vince Merrill's day. That's next.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
TJ.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Smith personal injury attorney.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Call TJ. He'll make them pay.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Now.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Here's Matt Jones walking back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
I really like Rage against the Machine, shann I'm not
gonna lie to you. Yeah, they have like what's the
name of this one? Killing? The killing in the name
of bulls on parade? What's the other one? There's like three?
I really like Gorilla Radio. There's one more though, Justify.
(24:09):
Isn't there a song called Justify?
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Testify, Testify, No shelter.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Yeah, you wouldn't think of me as a rage against
all wood. But I can get in the car sometimes
and kind of turn it up and it's like, uh,
it's it's like you you get going. That's what I
would do.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
You did very well on our trip to Seattle with
your music selection this time.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (24:33):
We didn't hear as much fifties country as we usually do.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Well, we had we had two people I thought wouldn't
enjoy it with Mario and Max in the car, so
I tried to make things a little more.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
You actually did.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
But we also a lot of podcasts.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I'll say this.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Telephone calls also, some phone calls were entertaing phone calls.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
I can't wait talking about that.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Someday.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
What do you mean why? Why?
Speaker 3 (24:54):
What do you mean someday? What do you wait on?
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Well, we could discuss the phone calls you took during
the show during the car right.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
I mean no, I mean there were I mean we
can discuss that. On the car ride, Shannon, there were
some some intense phone.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
The way in the back seat, so that there were.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
So many we ranked our top five intents.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
There were there were four calls.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Yes, two of them were a little tense.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
We'll say they were intense in nature.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
So two of them were with what would you say,
UK like administrative people.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Yes, yes, those were those were good I heeart administrative.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
One of them was with an iHeart administrative people, and
one of them was with administrator athletic coaching something.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Yeah, So there were four of them, Shannon, and there was
a little tension, but we were okay, right.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Yeah, that was probably the most entertaining part of the
on the road, just listening to you a one sided conversation.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
You all couldn't hear the other I could hear some.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
I could hear the other side on some of the situations.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Yeah, they did rank when it was over the four
most uncomfortable calls of the trip, we.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Are all agreed. It's a pretty unanimous list.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
It was. I did want to compliment you one other time.
Not only was your Munich selection better, you also let
all of us pick the restaurants.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Yeah, I only I didn't. I don't think I picked.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
I don't think you did either. I say you told
Max's one time.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
But I did ended up eating Ramen once. Yeah, you did.
It was fine. It was it was very unfulfilling, but
I did, Uh, I did I let you all pick
all the restaurants. And here's the problem. To those of
you listening with with sort of cultivated palettes, here's the
problem with letting these guys pick the restaurants. Okay, I
love these guys.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
But.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Drew has a palette like mine. He likes to try things.
Max somewhat like that. The Awe optionst Max. The Awsie
mind is a little more narrow, but it's still But
so Max and Drew fine, Ryan, Shannon and Mario have
(27:10):
the palettes.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Of twelve year old boys.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
So we're eating burgers like every time, and it's fine,
but that meant half of our meals. Drew, we're gonna
be at burger place. Now, to their credit, they picked
good burger place. Yeah, but they were still Drew that.
You know, I'm right, there's still kind of burger play.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
I even said this on the trip. I don't know
that I'll eat another cheeseburger. For the six months, we
had a lot of burgers burgers.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
To be fair, there's not a whole lot of like
sophisticated places in North Platte, Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Fair enough, Shannon, I think you got a couple of
difficult towns to do it in. But when we have
a whole city, like for instance, we were in u Takima,
Washing what was it Yakima, Yakima, Washington. Ryan has the
whole city, yep, a big city, and he takes us
to a.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Bar, sports bar because the place I wanted to go
was like fifteen minutes off the road. Yac of the place.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Who's a lot of bars?
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Young of those like fifteen to twenty minutes off the
road the restaurant.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
So it's okay. But I did have a game.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
I think I added twenty pounds. What about you guess?
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Yeah, I think I did too. Let's talk about the football.
So Vince Marrow report comes out Saturday morning that Bill
Belichick is considering hiring him for the North Carolina staff.
If you listen to our pregame show, I was a
little bit like, maybe this is the one He's known
(28:35):
Belichick for a long time. They share an agent. I
got a call after the show, not from Vince, but
from another person who was like, hey, man, I wouldn't
say that yet. I think there's a really good chance,
he stays, haven't heard anything in forty eight hours. You
know the portal, They've gotten three commitments in the portal.
(28:57):
We'll probably talk more about him tomorrow. But actually three
really good commitments. A defensive lineman from USC that was
good last year, an offensive lineman from Arkansas that has
started like forty games and was All SEC one year.
And a linebacker from Marshall that was probably the best
player on the Marshall team. So they've gotten some good commitments.
(29:17):
You know, these pretty good start to the portal. Drew,
where are you on this on the portal?
Speaker 4 (29:22):
The addition they got today, Uh, the offensive lineman Braun
from Arkansas, that's a really good get. We all know
the line needs help. I think he's just slide right
in a guard. He was All SEC last year, didn't
get that selection this year, but he started every game
for Arkansas the last two years. And you know, you
wonder some reasons, why are guys hitting the portal. What's
the problem at least with him? It seems Arkansas has
(29:44):
its own issues. Well, the football program they're in trouble.
That's scattery.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
If you're the Georgian and you're sitting there wondering about
Dane Key, Dane Key laughed, then you'd go, well, why
is he leaving? Isn't that kind of what we're talking
about here with Arkansas, with.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
The offense, have a lot of departures just line in
it even there. I mean, their radio shows are like
what the heck's going on over here? So with him specifically,
I don't know exactly why he went to the Portal,
but it's not as concerning because he could be running
from a bad situation. He's played a lot of good
football for two seasons in the SEC.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
I mean, I think their first three commitments from the
Portal are good. I also know on at least one
of those three, the main recruiter was Vince, So that
would suggest you think he's coming back. Ryan, if a
guy would go ahead and comme in.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
I was anxious to hear your update on Vince because
you obviously know him more better than any of us.
So with the fact that you, I haven't.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Really known what to do. To be honest, I have
not talked to him, you know, I said this on
the pregame show. Normally when this is happening, if I'm
being honest, I talk to him, and I have a
sense of where he is. I have not heard from him.
I'm instant to so I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Is that a red flag?
Speaker 3 (30:56):
It was for me in the afternoon until somebody told me,
don't let that be a red flat. So I mean,
if I were you, if I was if I was UK,
and if I was Vince Merrill and I knew Vince
was coming back, I would go ahead and make that
statement right. Yeah, he made it a couple of weeks ago.
But I love Vince. It wasn't the most powerful statement
in the world. There was some you know, there was
(31:18):
some hesitation. We we talked about it. I would just
go ahead and say, smack it down. I think that
would be good to do. Be up to him through
whether they do it.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Yeah, I need to put something out there. Uh, we're
all friends here. After the pregame show, I went to
dinner before Kentucky Louisville, sitting there by myself, having a
nice meal, and I heard a voice behind me. So
I heard you been talking about me? And I said,
I know that voice, and I turned around and it
was Vince. I've gotten that before. Well. I had called
him little dog when he was considering Louisville as my
(31:50):
first said. You didn't say little dog, you went So
we addressed the little Dog situation.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
What did you say?
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (31:57):
He said, you're my guy, patted me on the back.
But then I said, you said, little dog, I did.
We're past that, but us staying topical, I asked him
if we could FaceTime Bill Belichick. He said absolutely not,
but I was pressable. But you know me, I'm kind
of a goofy. I'm playing the friendly goofy di role.
But I never asked him directly if it was a
random run in. He probably. I'm sure he didn't want
(32:17):
to see me out, But I can just tell you
the vibes felt good around him talking about it, just
kind of indirectly talking about He even mentioned the commitment
they got today, So I mean he's still locked in
on recruiting visits.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
It's tough.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
I did like the conversation we randomly had before the
Louisville game.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
It's tough for I mean, it's tough for me. I
know it's tough for you.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Like it's tough.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
You know. If I were to hear that Ryan is
considering going to the Greene Show, you know that's a
hard conversation to have. I don't want to be like Ryan,
give me the scoop on if you're going to Greene,
So I think we just have to we just have
to see. All I know is he this kid today?
(32:58):
He was the main recruiter there and the kids coming,
so you would think he would have asked, are you
going to be here? Ryan?
Speaker 1 (33:06):
So I'm hearing two things that make me feel a
little better about it. One is what the call you
got after the pregame show said what they said. And
now this Bronz guy if Vince was the main recruiter
on him.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
And Drew tried to call Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Yeah hard. So Shannon looked this guy up. He's six six,
three hundred and forty pounds. He's a monster.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Yeah. And unlike Minci and a couple of guys we
got from the SEC last year he played and started.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
This was not like he was like he played twenty
four straight games.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
The kid from USC was is a freshman that by
the end of the year was starting for USC. It
was Marshall that linebacker was their best defensive player. Like,
these are guys who've actually performed, haven't theoretically could perform.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
I'm still being cautious to not just flip the switch
and say, oh, they fixed it, But if objectively they
these are good additions that you can be a little hopeful.
I'm still when we get to fall, I'm not gonna
be predicting eight and fours go busy like I have
in the past. But to give them credit, these are
good ads so far.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
The Brown Dude A six, Ye're gonna be a super senior.
I believe three years of Florida and then two years
at Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Tell me about stock Toor Mortgage.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Stocktor Mortgage. Well, if you're ever thinking about building a
new home, maybe thinking about refinancing, maybe think about building

spring buying season. Stockor Mortgage Stockton dot Com n mls
A two five nine equal housing lender.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
We have another commitment too, okay, uh. Alex Wohlschlager he's
an offensive tackle from Bowing Green, first team All MAC
offensive tackle. I know this was that was a guy
they really wanted. By the way, all these dudes we've
talked about, I know, I'm not sure about the Marshall kid,
but the USC kid, the Arkansas kid, and now this Woldschlager.
(35:01):
There were many other SEC teams at one of those guys, so.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
He was All Mac too. That's another All Conference gat.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Yeah, All Mac tackle, a definite position of need, edge rusher,
a definite position of need. And they've got two guys already.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
All right, we'll take a break. Be right backksr Oh
tell it. Welcome back, Tekey Sports Radio. Final segment Spontsor

So happy birthday.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Yes, we love some Freddy Magard said him a little
happy birthday note this morning. He done social media anymore,
so we can't hit him up there, but I know
everybody listening loves Freddy. What is he forty this year?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Ryan?
Speaker 4 (36:10):
I think he's hearning forty older than that. Happy birthday
to Freddy out there.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
I think I'm a little older than him, so he's
probably mid fifties.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
He's between me and you, Yeah, like you're sixty seven
and I am thirty five, and so he's probably.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Like that's about right.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I think he's probably like fifty or fifty one.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeahiled it.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
Yeah, number eighteen in your programs and number eighteen on
the all time passing list?
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Is that right?
Speaker 1 (36:35):
I didn't really he's the original number eighteen.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Yeah, well I didn't he away for all the others.
A lot of good eighteens over the years. Who's next, Shit,
let's go to Blake. Blake, go ahead, bike.
Speaker 9 (36:44):
Hey guys, I just wanted to talk about how the
stray Cats is a great name, and the Marksmen are
a great name.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
For the team.
Speaker 9 (36:51):
I think there's a good way to combine both of them,
since we're in the nil era and people are getting
paid to play. And he went out and got everybody
called Marx Murcy. That way they understand the assignment. And
I'll lets you guys think about it.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
I don't know how that combined them.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
There's nothing about the stray cats, and what about the
remarkable well.
Speaker 9 (37:09):
The stray cats are. They have to go find them,
they bring them together.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
You know, all right, I appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
No, these are all rough drafts. You know, we're writing
in pencil.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Here.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
We'll get a figured out.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
I will say, I will give some credit the away,
a way away thing starting to get legs. I had
to hear at the bar that chance started. I'm told
that Jack Dempsey's in New York. They had a full
house that chance started, and I heard that it kind
of there were parts of it in the arena starting.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
It's starting to go. I can confirm it's getting a
little louder and louder. Hopefully as it gets legs, people
won't cut the legs off from underneath it and ask
it to sit back down, but it has gotten louder
each game they're trying whoever starting it up.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
I was hoping it would that little stretch at the
end of the second half kind of took over.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
But how good was he at the he was you know,
he missed the free throw, yeah, which was a big
free throw, but then comes right down and immediately steals
the ball back, gets the dunk, yep. Then he hits
the three. Where were you on shooting that three mm?
Speaker 4 (38:11):
That was no, no, no, no, no, okay, Yeah, that was
one of those shots. I mean, now early in the clock.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
I mean it was a seven point game, like it
was way early in the clock, but it went in.
That was definitely a no, no, no, okay, yes, good.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
I think Pope wants him to shoot that shot though.
You got the open look that even if it was.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
A minute time no no, I mean it's a we're
up seven, there's a minute six left and there's still
twenty three seconds on the shot clock. I'm not sure
if Mark Pope was honest that he wanted him to
fire that.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
I think oh wait heard KSR. And we've been talking
about how he's been missing that open three of the
last couple of games and he said, you know what,
I got your open three right here.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Here you go.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
But it ended the game. I mean, so whether it
was a good shot or not, he made it. And
once he did it was it was over. What's next?
Speaker 4 (38:59):
Tom?
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Tom had Tom?
Speaker 8 (39:02):
Yeah, I was at the game, uh Saturday, and I
was curious and I don't want you know the answer
to this, but uh, twice in the first half, I
think the under twelve and the under four timeouts, Kentucky
had just scored baskets kind of had some momentum from him,
and then you know, Louisville takes a ball out of
(39:24):
an ounce and all of a sudden, the referees just
stop the clock for reasons I never could fad him.
And then we'll go to the under twelve hunder four
timeouts was effectively getting three time out.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Yeah, the under twelve one. The under twelve one made
Pope mad. I think the under twelve one was was
an injury, or at least a potential injury. The guy
had gotten hurt on the other end of the floor,
and I actually thought that one was appropriate because when
a guy gets hurt, they wait till you get the
ball on the offense. I was good with that one.
(39:55):
I understand what you're saying about the under four and
I never got an explanation on the under four, And
I'm with you on that. It felt like it kind
of helped him and I didn't love it.
Speaker 8 (40:05):
Yeah, I'm I'm with you on the Pad Adams. I
think he's the worst official out there.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Yeah, appreciate the call the under twelve that guy got
kind of he was kind of limping down the court.
I understood that Pope didn't like it, though I saw
Pope kind of looked at the referee like you just
gave him that.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
It looked like there was a couple of times for
the first time this season, Pope was about to Losey's temper.
You could tell he was just was getting close where
he maybe you know.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
I thought, I actually agree with Pat Kelsey. I thought
the officiating was inconsistent. I didn't think it like favored
either team necessarily. I think we got a couple of breaks.
There was a time they called a walk on Louisville
that I don't think was a walk. But then there
was another time that the guy did walk and he
didn't call it, So it kind of evened out. I
just thought it was inconsistent. It was never clear. You know,
(40:52):
they went long piers of the time of calling no
fouls and then they call six fouls in two minutes.
It just was never clear to me what they were
how they were letting him to go.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
Yeah, that's why you gotta be You don't want to
sound whiny when you're talking about refs in a game.
But they were just objectably bad each way. I mean,
there are just several misscalls in a game of that
magnitude that I'm sure we're gonna find out. Billions of
people were watching. The refs just didn't.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Have a good play. Yeah, the big the big white
dude on on Louisville. There was one play where he
literally switched pivot feet oh yeah, and they didn't call foul.
And then at the end of the game, it's a
seven point game and they called him for traveling and
he didn't and if neither both calls were big in
the moment and they missed them both completely.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
He took about seven steps when he changed his pivot.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
Foot, yeah, I mean, he didn't want to coort. He
was like doing a little bit dance and they didn't
call it. But to be fair that he I don't
think he walked at the one at the end, so
it was bad both ways. Who's next, Let's go to Matthew. Matthew,
go ahead, Matthew.
Speaker 6 (41:50):
Hey, guys, I just wanted to call in and express
my support for calling and like this guy that's complaining
about him standing up is probably the biggest Crown take
up in twenty twenty four this year. It's pathetic and
if he wants to see he should just buy the
seats in front of I'm gonna hang up and.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
Listen appreciate the call. Well, this is gonna be I mean,
when the Brown game happens on New Year's Eve, It's
New Year's Eve in the afternoon, there's gonna be people
staying in and UKG is gonna to figure out what
what their policy is.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
People are now gonna be standing to support Caleb, and
these guys are getting yelled at. You know, we're gonna
support them by standing up.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
I totally agree with you. I mean, I think that's
gonna happen. Now. Are you excited for Ohio State Saturday.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
It's a weird time of our season where we don't
we don't play for a week, and then we don't
play for another ten days.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
We've got two days and we play it two in
the afternoon on New Year's Eve. This is kind of
an odd time play basketball.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
But it's weird two games in seventeen days. Like you said,
the ones in the afternoon game.
