It's Kentucky Sports Radio here live in Louisville, Whisky Thief.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Listen to that. See see there we go.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Whiskey Thief, a tool used to pull whiskey out of
a barrel, and a great distillery here in Kentucky. They've
become a great partner of ours over the years, and
we thank him for being being a part of it.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Thank you, guys, Whiskey Thief.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I was making this a regular thing here and at
the other distillery.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
It's been awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
How about Walt picking this day to what a perfect
time to have it? Remote?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
I was a perfect day, although I like yesterday about noon,
I was like, I'm gonna have to tell him I
can't come, and I will be because I've had to
miss one of years before and I didn't want to.
But but we got here this morning. We're ready to go.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Great crowd here too. We always get a good crowd,
but they're extra hot today, excited for the show.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
So yeah, let's talk about what tomorrow is gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Like, I mean, first of all, we you know, the
game's not till nine o'clock, but I got a feeling
the city's gonna be kind of buzzing all day. You know,
people are asking me about watching the game. All right,
So here's the deal. I would say, if you want
to come. Here's what I asked that you don't do.
Please don't show up at my bar at one o'clock.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
And stay of the game. I'm not gonna kick you out,
but like.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Don't do that to the people there, because you know
they make their money off tips. Come for the pregame,
and then everybody clears out and goes to the game.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
And that's when you come to watch the game.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
So like everybody will buy the games at nine, everybody
be out of there by seven thirty forty five. Then
show up and go to the go to the game.
I do think it's gonna be wild in there tomorrow.
I think it's gonna be wild in downtown Lexington and
the game being at nine o'clock and Ruperena Ryan, it's
gonna be drunk first, like it's gonna be It's gonna
(02:47):
be drunk.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I highly highly advise if you're going to the game,
go early because traffic and parking is gonna be a
zoo and you want to be there early to see
the introduction.
Speaker 7 (02:58):
That's part of the environment tomorrow, the entertainment that you know,
drunk people love to boot people. So I'm just saying
if we're talking about boo.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
If you're talking about booing, the drunk er, the more booie.
Speaker 6 (03:08):
Yeah, they did cal so wrong with none. As soon
as the schedule came out last October, it was like,
oh no, I mean he has to sit there all
day and wait, probably at the little hiatt next door.
Maybe we'll get around a little bit, but he has
to wait for that, and then the crowd is just
gonna be, as you're saying, so drunk. It's gonna be worse.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
If it had been new, it.
Speaker 6 (03:26):
Would been a good crowd, but it wouldn't have been
as bad. He could have gotten right to it, gotten home.
That's the worst case scenario for him.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Well, vers the rights, Matt, Are you gonna be embarrassed
if they actually get applause yesterday and the crowd loves cow?
Speaker 4 (03:38):
No, I mean I won't be embarrassed. I think that.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
First of all, I think booing would not be disrespect.
That's what you do to opposing coaches. And if he
were to get cheered, that'd be an amazing amount of respect.
I would argue it's more respect than probably the fan
base even feels for you. They're almost doing it because
they're nice people contra to what a lot of folks believe.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I think our fan base is pretty nice. But no,
I mean I'm not. I wouldn't be upset about it.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I'd be a little surprised if it's overwhelming cheers, but
it could be. I do think it's gonna be more
positive than I thought it was gonna be a week ago.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Like a week ago, I thought booz are gonna win out.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Now just seems like the there's a bit of mood
amongst some people of let's be classy and let's you know,
all the things you hate.
Speaker 7 (04:23):
I don't see any like any of the donors like
the big money.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Oh I do, people costs a lot of money.
Speaker 7 (04:33):
They're giving their money to Pope instead of him.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
So no, I mean I think Donor the donor class, though,
was a class he lost before he lost the average fan.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Donor class has been out on him for years.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
Well, then if they're gonna boom, then everybody will.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
I mean, you know, we'll find out.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Myer metcalf Uh put out the five most important moments
of the cow Kentucky era.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Okay, let's see what you think.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Number one the first year, basically arguing Kyle Perry made
Kentucky cool again with John Wall, all the celebrities that
come through, DeMarcus jay Z, Samuel L. Jackson, Shaq, Shaquille, O'Neal,
Lebron all of ten games, Drake, that was number one.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I think that's probably right. Yeah, I mean, I think
the twenty ten team was just huge for changing the program.
Speaker 6 (05:21):
And he did that without a transfer portal. I mean,
it's press of what Pope did. But cal did that
when you just had to get high school kids, and
I still fixed Kentucky basketball.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
He had second twenty twelve and twenty fifteen, basically calling
that era the era of Kentucky dominance, which I would agree.
Two of those four years we had two of the
best college teams. Ever, one of them didn't win, but
those are two of the best modern college basketball teams. Third,
evolving landscape cost Kentucky its grip on elite talent. Basically
(05:48):
says Duke starts going after elite players as well, Cayle
doesn't get all the one and done's, and then his
recruiting slips some years, not even getting any top ten players.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
You agree with that, yeah, I do.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
I mean I remember going to the Peach Jam with
you early in the cal Era and kids were like
Kansas Duke or Kentucky. But then as time went on,
they start going out and man, they start going everywhere.
It's like more people just got involved on going for
the five stars and so surrendering in them.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Number four interesting enough, he says, cal loses a connection
with the fan base.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
I actually agree with that. It's interesting for a national
guy to say.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
And then number five a loss to Oakland and other
and fans basically giving up on his style.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Would you agree with those five as the five most impla.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
I liked that. Yeah, I mean there was definitely a disconnect.
I think that happened sometime around COVID you know that
that nine and sixteen season and then uh yeah, I
mean losing to Oakland and Saint Peter's. I think that
those were the two last you know, Nils in the
coffin for Caliperi here.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
He didn't mention the record draft picks.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Was that not the best? I don't think I had
the best day ever. Yeah, I don't think that was
one of them.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
There'll be a few moments, Ryan of when I'm done
doing this, then I'll think about what the environment was
like in that particular moment and a handful of mind
coincide with these eras if you just say, what were
the moments felt the strongest? Again, unless you were there
the pregame of that twenty ten and twenty twelve Carolina games,
(07:15):
there was just a feeling of big time basketball is
back in Kentucky and that's great. Obviously, the feeling on
the floor when we won the title. You know what
it was like when we lost in twenty fifteen to Wisconsin.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
But I don't know that there's gonna be many things. Drew.
I remember more than standing on that.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Court as they walked what lost to Oakland and me
saying to you right for it was over, let's go
over here and watch this because this might be it.
And the way fans were screaming at Caw, I mean
just these random people in Pittsburgh just screaming at him
and him looking dazed, and it was just you were like,
(07:55):
is this.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
How it's gonna end? And then it did?
Speaker 6 (07:58):
Is it worse because a week before all a lesser version. Yeah,
a fewer people, but that was shocking. You're like, wow,
they're booing cow in Nashville in an arena that's ninety
five percent. Blue wasn't everybody. He was right at the tunnel.
But then it was much worse in Oakland. I remember
fans pointing us for like a minute left. We're standing
there watching and they're like, he's gotta go, he's gotta go.
And then the moment he came to that tunnel, they
(08:18):
were just giving it to him.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
The you know, the hour between when that game ended,
or maybe hour and a half in the postgame show.
This is not an exaggeration in the arena. And then
as I walked trying to figure out where I was
gonna do the postgame show, every single Kentucky fan I
saw said, you gotta call for him to get fired.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
He's gotta go, he's gotta go.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Text messages from friends of mine's like, now's the time,
now's the time, you gotta say it.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Get him out, get him out. It was like.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
It took a week and a half more shitting, but
it was over at that moment.
Speaker 7 (08:53):
Yeah, it would have been tough for you to do that, though,
with the NCAA tournament coming up the next week.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
No, no, he's not, I'm talking about it was it's
per at that at that moment though.
Speaker 7 (09:02):
Yeah, I mean I think everybody was in that same boat.
If we gotta get rid of.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Him, Who's next? Zach is up next? Zach? Go ahead, Zach?
Speaker 8 (09:11):
Hey, guys, what's going on? First time coming up with Potcander?
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Who?
Speaker 3 (09:15):
What?
Speaker 4 (09:15):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (09:17):
I'm actually currently working on the tire Mountains, which you
don't know. Cross is in the Harley Coown. Got out
the Sweet Mountain Mamba.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Yes, Mountain Maba. I like it, not sweet Sweet Mountain Angel.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Baby. We're gonna go with Mountain Mama.
Speaker 8 (09:33):
Come on, I've got a few. What's your thoughts on
the videos that the du put out friends the team? Uh,
number two now one and the falls? I think it
comes out before the team. Uh, that we can boo
him when he annaw says the artisas head coach.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
And number three?
Speaker 8 (09:54):
Uh, poke, bring out two three tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Bring out what?
Speaker 8 (10:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Pope doesn't seem to want to play a ton of
zone either. He plays a little bit. What uh? What
what did A do say?
Speaker 4 (10:08):
I have got you?
Speaker 6 (10:08):
I didn't hear much of that call. Was that muffled
for you all? It was?
Speaker 4 (10:11):
What did A do say? He said? Dude? Did do
a press conference? Is today. What did he say?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
One thing he said, Well, he loved his time in
Kentucky and he has nothing but great things to remember
it about in Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
I wish it do it stayed here? We could use it.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
SEC basketball.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
That's like, that's a dude we don't have. We could
we could use a dude like that.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
He went to SEC basketball media days last summer, first
appearance in Arkansas. Gear uh ksr we down there interviewed him.
It is like sad, like you could tell he's like,
how did I end up in this? Like it's honestly
hard to watch him talking about Kentucky in the change
he did all did not explain it.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Yeah, by the way, are we wearing Denham tomorrow? If
we heard like this has all gotten law? Are we doing?
What are we doing?
Speaker 6 (10:47):
I heard we got the firecrackers? It's a big game.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
I don't know about did them though.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
They've been hush hush about it, so I don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
They feel like maybe if I feel like we might
see some maybe tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
I'm not sure. I just just we'll see who's next.
Garrett is up next? Garrett, go ahead, Garrett.
Speaker 9 (11:04):
Hey, guys, I just want to say that obvious game
tomorrow and I'll be booing. I cannot forget now for
what he did last year's team. And I think it's
annoying that anybody wants to hear the man when he's announced.
They aren't going to say and former coach of Kentucky
John Caliperry. They're gonna say Lazorbacks coach John cali Perry.
Saturday is not the day to cheer, and I will
(11:25):
boot as loud as I can.
Speaker 10 (11:26):
If anyone cheers now, then I accept.
Speaker 9 (11:28):
Him to cheer Pope and as teams so loud that
I hear drums first, Thanks guys and Joe Cash.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
There you go. There's a strong voice. Now listen, all y'all.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Clapping, hang on, just say every single one of you,
not one of you said you would boo, and then
you all clap when that guy says he's.
Speaker 7 (11:47):
Gonna boot, will nobody going to the game.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
That's just interesting to me, Like it just shows the
power of a good a good speech, and a good leader.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Right, Like everybody was like, hey, I don't think we
should moo.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Then one guy goes, let's boo boo, and everybody's like, yeah, boo.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
I think He did bring up a good point in fact, though,
when they announced our guys, though, you should blow the
roof off, you know, make it just deafening loud in there.
When they announced Mark.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Pope, well no, that's post. Yeah, Pope's gonna get like
a Steve Austin. Ye, like it's gonna be It's gonna
be like glass shattering pop when Pope.
Speaker 7 (12:21):
And it's a lot different saying what you would do
here versus in the moment when it actually happens, you
know what I mean, Like in.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
That moment, you know, mom ment town, don't you don't
know what you're gonna do? You like a lot of that,
By the way, I think that happens to people like
you just kind of get caught up and next thing,
you know, wait, I'm booing a child. You're like, yeah,
Ryan the children's game telling the seven year old to
shut their mouth.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Like you, you never really know what's gonna happen. Who's next?
Sherry is next? Cherry? Go ahead, Cherry?
Speaker 11 (12:55):
Hey, I'm just wonder are they gonna show like on
the net?
Speaker 12 (13:00):
Show is the boo and all that?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Well?
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Okay, so well normally they missed the start of games,
but they did build an extra thirty minutes between the
Duke Carolina game and the Kentucky game. So Duke Carolina
actually starts at six point thirty and our game starts
at nine. And maybe, who knows, maybe they built that
in to be able to show the announcements, or maybe
(13:27):
just because they didn't want them to go long. But
you know, and I appreciate to called this is like historically,
this is the weekend where college basketball sort of announces
to the world we're back, right, Like this is the
every week Yeah, I mean this, but this is the
first Saturday and Sunday with no football, right right, So
they basically say, all right, we're back, and then there's
(13:49):
no it's not a surprise that if you go look
at the schedule that's on ESPN tomorrow, it's like North
Carolina at noon, Kansas at full or Jimmy uh, like
Auburn at noon or whatever, Kansas at for Duke Carolina
at six point thirty, and then Kentucky at nine.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Like that's why they do it.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
And with Carolina's stinking, everybody's gonna be watching to see.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
What happens with Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
And plus we're gonna get a huge leading. This is
gonna be a huge audience for the game because you
got we're we're after Duke Carolina.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Normally Duke Carolina is the whole thing. We're after it.
So we're gonna get that leading.
Speaker 7 (14:23):
It's gonna be one and I don't care what Seth
Greenberg says. He says that Kentucky and Arkansas fans are
gonna be the only ones paying attention to this. I
think if you're a college basketball fan, you're watching this game.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
I think what Seth Greenberg is ensured is that no
one's going to be paying attention to him.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
Imagine working for you once you get that popped there,
I'm just saying, well, I.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Want to add that.
Speaker 6 (14:47):
Green Imagine working for ESPN and saying the game doesn't matter.
I would call him in the office be like, dude,
this is on our networks. You're supposed to promote them.
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Yeah, game doesn't matter. I'm Seth green like, that's why
he shouldn't be on game. Think about the people who
go to football game day. Corso loves the sport, Herbstreet
loves it. McAfee for all his gubernish, he loves it.
But they all love it and they're into it. And
then you get Seth Greenberg, god right, just yelling like
he just have the game is supposed to be fun.
(15:17):
You get a cranky old man from the Muppets yelling
at people.
Speaker 4 (15:21):

Speaker 4 (15:47):

Speaker 3 (15:48):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Here at Whiskey Thief and
New Loom right here on Nanny Goat Strut. Come visit
their Come visit their tasting room in here with the
whisky Thief Burman.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I that's there.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
They're always one of the ones people enjoy coming to
this show the most because they're all drinking, so they
gotta like it. Af I'm nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven. Uh one person writes Matt game tomorrow.
How loud do you think it gets Is it one
of our loudest crowns?
Speaker 4 (16:19):
No doubt about question.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
This will be This will be as good a pre
game atmosphere, you know, as we've had, and who knows
how long the actual game depends on how the game
goes and all that, but as far as a pregame atmosphere, Ryan,
this will be one of the best we've ever got,
be the.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
Best since Patino came back. I mean, and people that
were there that day, they know it was just it
was an unbelievable you know. You hear that phrase, you
hear the electricity in the air. You could feel it.
You could feel it. Man, if people were just anticipating
Patino walking out, It'll be the same way tomorrow, I
think it.
Speaker 6 (16:48):
Tuckie fans are gonna have so much, so much anxiety
and nerves that they are gonna be living on every play.
So we're gonna get reactions to everything throughout the We're.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Gonna be very puckered up, I think. For Yeah, I
hopefully not too much. Yeah, well I could use some
of that.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
But but they're definitely gonna be.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
I like this choice for the for the why John Robick, Yeah,
I'll probably be there.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
He was at the last game.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
You want to get it, Cal, Yeah, that's a good question.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Do you think Rob will come?
Speaker 6 (17:22):
He's actually been in a lot of games because he scouts,
but still at this one.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Yeah, there's a lot of those people in Like, there's
a lot of people just on.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
A personal level that I would just would like to see.
I mean, I'd like to just personally see their interaction. Yeah,
you know, i'd like to I'd like to see Mitch
and Cal like what's I mean, what's their interaction gonna be?
Speaker 4 (17:44):
And they'll shake hands because they're both pros.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
But you talk about two people be shaking hands that
are seething mad at each other.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
I ask you this one time. I don't remem if
I ask you on the air privately. Do you think
Cal really had any idea how much the fan base
had turned on him before he left?
Speaker 4 (18:01):
No? I know That's why I've said this over and over.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
That video, which which is gonna be what my You know,
you get images in your mind of these moments.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
My image of him leaving was him walking his.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Dog outside, trying to rally the fan base around him.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
I mean, he walked for people who don't remember.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
They announced he's going to Arkansas, and then there's like
twenty four hours of silence. He is actively trying to
renegotiate with Kentucky. Kentucky is like, we're not negotiating. And
he went out and he walked that dog up and
down Richmond.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Road in a stroller.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
He walked it up and down because he wanted the
visual of him. There just happened to be a camera.
There just happened to be a camera on Richmond Road
following him up and down the road because he wanted
there to be a oh, he might stay, come on, Mitch,
keep him here. And when that didn't happen, I think
it shocked him. There's no doubt he was shocked. He
(19:02):
in his mind thought, Matt Jones and those goobers at
KSR have this little loud group of people that are
against me, but everyone else is for me. And he
didn't realize that he lost the average as I say
it all the time, he lost the average fan before
he lost me. I was not the pied piper. I
was the kaboo saying it's past. And I think that
(19:25):
was what he never realized.
Speaker 6 (19:27):
Yeah, and that the stroller situation k yt had that
camera out there for a while, he knew exactly he
walked towards the camera. Normally in that situation you would have.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Gone out back.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
Yeah, yeah, he saw that opportunity. Well, I can't keep
quit thinking about when he gets there tomorrow. He designed
the locker room that is just a celebration of twenty twelve.
But he's going in the room that has four chairs,
nothing on the walls. It's not big, there's barely lockers.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Well one of the things it's gonna be, you know,
bigger picture culture about the program. And again, like we
didn't complain about this when it happened because we like
to win.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
But like, let's take the practice facility used to be.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
When you went in the practice facility, most of you've
probably never been down there where they actually practice. You
go downstairs, there's this built like this wall of players,
but there's no player on the wall that didn't play
for Cow.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
None, They're all it's all Cow people.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
And they used to say, well, it's because it's all
our guys in the pros. But like Tayshaun Prince wouldn't
be on there, and Keith Bogan's wouldn't be on Niks
wouldn't be on there, and Rondo wouldn't be on there.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
It was all players that play for COL.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
I'm gonna guess if that hasn't been changed, it will
be changed, and it will be players from all the air.
You'll still probably have more recent ones because that helps
in recruiting, sure, but it's not.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
But there was a time that if.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
You didn't play for COL, there was no obvious proof
that you went to the school at the practice facility.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
I think that part is going to be is a
huge change.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Well, it didn't take twenty four hours to put to
rip those cards off the wall of all the NBA players.
Now the murals that are on the walls, that's harder
to do. But in the practice where it's just you know,
got the literally looks like a card, those came down immediately.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
It used to just be the practice thing had a
little thing for the National Championship banners and then just
the NBA cards of all the people.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
That played in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
It wasn't even them in Kentucky jerseys, it was them
on their NBA jersey. And you know that that culture
has shifted and it'll be weird for him to be
in the visitors locker room, which you've ever been in
Rapparena with the home team's locker room is plush, the
visitors team locker room is and he's gonna for the
first time be in the.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
Locker room and the home is his locker They haven't
changed that yet. It is just twenty twelve everywhere that
is his design. I'm sure that'll get changed on down
the road, but it is a celebration of that team
and he doesn't get to go in there anymore. Who's
name card doesn't work?
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Super Dave is next super Dave.
Speaker 13 (21:54):
Hello, Hey guys, I was wondering if y'all could do
a shout out to my grandson Noah, who's three today
and he.
Speaker 14 (22:07):
Knows how to do l's down. His dad's already talking
how to do that.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Hello Noah.
Speaker 14 (22:14):
Okay. The thing I want to bring up is do
you think there's gonna be controversy about when when Butler
comes back the way Robinson has kind of embraced the
row of the point guard. I mean, he seems to,
doesn't let it Botherer and Butler counts. No, I don't know,
he just I.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Don't know, because I mean, we also have to remember,
we won some games this year because of Butler too.
I think what will happen is and I appreciate the call.
I think we see less Travis Perry attempt minutes, and basically,
I think if if Robinson plays another game or two
like he's played, Robinson at this point's the backup point
guard definitely.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
And hey, Lamon, Butler's been awesome. He's injured right now.
They need him back. I hope he's back tomorrow for
defense because that'll be important. But Robinson looks comfortable, but
you don't want to take him off the wing and
give him more worse. I'm and now in the backup role.
I like it, but you still want him to beat
jacksone Butler.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
It'd be nice to have Butler tomorrow because if I
if I have Butler on Wagner, I know he's not
gonna go off on me. There's a part of me
that worries that Wagner will be able to take whoever
we have in. But definitely need Butler.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
You definitely need Butler. But you can make an argument
they're better offensively with Jackson, Otegan, Kobe Bray out.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
There, probably almor Yeah, offensively, you're probably right. We'll take
a break right back, KSR.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
What a Matt Turkey Sports Radio eight fun nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven, Text Machine seven seven
to two, seven to seven, four five two five four.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Shout out to.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
UK women's team who won last night against Alabama.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
You get him around and plus seven one, seven to one.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
In conference play, they play five of their next seven
games I think are against ranked teams. Basically, they their
schedule was loaded up. They had all the easy teams first.
So they've got LSU, Sound, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and
maybe Texas all still to come. And like three of
those games are at home, so the meat of the
(24:10):
schedule is coming. But they beat their first ranked team
last night of the SEC. They beat Alabama pretty handily
at home. I watched a little bit of that game,
and so now we get to see I mean, clearly
Kentucky's good, but like we'll know in the next few
weeks how good because they're playing the elite of the
SEC over the next three weeks.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
I almost went I was gonna buy a single ticket
and just sit by myself, and I just couldn't get
over it there in time. But I ended up watching
the whole game at home. I'm so into that team.
They're so fun. Alabama went up early, Kentucky was looking
pretty bad. That a twelve ozho run flipped the script
and Kentucky ran away with it. But they're just a
fun team to watch. Georgia Amore didn't shoot it well
last night, but man, that's she's We've got Ron Howard,
(24:48):
but she's right up there with her.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
I wish I wish she was playing here more than
a year. She's a lot, She is a lot of
fun to watch. And and this team, man, they're they're
gonna beat They're good, and they're gonna be really Kenny
Brooks is like you just watch the way he coaches.
He doesn't amake t job. One person rides Matt. What
happens for real?
Speaker 7 (25:07):
If we lose, well, it stinks we move on to
the next game.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
No, I mean it's stinks.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
It stinks like we'll have to listen to I mean,
I can go ahead and tell you if we lose,
don't expect to see me online for at least forty
eight hours.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Is Ryan enough to do the post game show?
Speaker 4 (25:22):
I'll do the postgame show, But I'm just I'm not.
I'm not getting into my hog mentions. Uh, if they
if they were to lose.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
You know, big picture, if we lost it, it would
it would be an awful loss because they're bad, But
like the Tennessee win would keep it from being what
I was worried could be, like a back breaking loss
because you got that win against Tennessee. But you know,
now Kentucky's in a situation again, let's just do the math.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
We're four and three.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Just win at home against the three worst teams in
the SEC, Arkansas, LSU in South Carolina. Now you got
seven wins, right, then you have Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, and
who's our other home game with Vandy. Let's assume we
win the Vandy game. Now you're at eight conference wins,
three games against the best teams, and then you're on
(26:13):
the road at Old Miss, at Alabama, at Texas, at Oklahoma.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Win one or.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Two of those and you're looking at a really good record.
So this is really more about just holden, serve this game.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
They're in a great spot, and really I don't I'm
not that worried about a lost, not that it could happen,
but it's very obvious we've already won the breakup. I
mean sure, I mean, if they win, congratulations, you still suck,
like honestly, I mean, Mark Pope just tied the record
for most top twenty five wins in a regular season,
and he still has four more games left where he
could shatter that record. If Arkansas wins that twenty four
(26:48):
hours online, we'll have to eat a lot of crow.
I won't get to eat the nuggets. I'm excited to cook.
That won't be fun. But on Monday, Kentucky is still
so much farther ahead of Arkansas with excitement that oh well, congratulations,
it sucked for us on some day, but yeah, we're
gonna go continue to be excited about our season.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
I saw a line that, uh, Kentucky's SEC schedule from
here out is the easiest of any team left in
the ACC or SEC, which basically means we were four
and three with the hardest uh schedule of any of
the teams that we've played so far.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Now we still have.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
I mean, our draw made it to where we play
two of the best team best teams in the SEC twice.
We get Alabama and Tennessee, So you know it is
what it is, But nevertheless, I'm.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Kind of Withdrew. It would stink to lose, but we're
still in pre.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
We just never really saw this scenario till SEC play started.
No one thought they would be this down.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
Would you still take nine to nine though, like you
did last week before the Tennessee game?
Speaker 4 (27:45):
But I'm glad I didn't take it. I think we're
gonna I genuinely think we're gonna finish ten and eight.
I just have that. I think we're gonna lose.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
I think we'll lose at Tennessee or excuse me, we already
we won in Tennsee. I think we're gonna lose at Alabama.
I think we're gonna lose at least one of those
home games against Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn and then at
Old Miss. I think we I think we lose Tuesday
night at Old Miss.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
Don't they still have to go to Missouri?
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Right in between Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri. I think we
get one of those. I think I think these road games,
I don't know why it is we win the hardest
ones and lose the other ones.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
I just think these road games are all hard.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
I really, I know Auburn's on the schedule Tennessee. But
I look at the games you just named, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri,
Old Miss. That can decide everything because all of those
the spread is gonna be like a point or two.
They're on the road, they're all beatable teams. If you
can split those, if you can win three out of four,
that'll be anom.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
I take a split right now. He gave me a
split those four.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
I take a split right now because I think with
a split your top four seed in the NCAA tournament.
If you split Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Old Miss on road,
win two, you're a top four seed in the tournament,
and then the quad one wins to those those You're right,
those are the games left for the rest of these here.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Who's next? Dan? Is up next?
Speaker 3 (29:02):
Dan?
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Go ahead? Dan?
Speaker 15 (29:06):
Hey, Matt, I would argue, if you're drunk, you're not
more booie, you're more boozy.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
I know it's awesome, man, Yeah, it was worse than
you think.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
I didn't hear what he said.
Speaker 7 (29:27):
He wasn't worth hearing, all right, I appreciate.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
You get you get one miserable joke, and then we
move on. Who's next? Luke is up next, Luke, go ahead, Luke.
Speaker 10 (29:39):
Hey, Matt, guys just wanted to say, with this whole
cow boo, cheers, do nothing. Then I am bowing this man.
The hell with John cal Perry. This guy walks to
Oakland and Saint Peters and did we forget that this
guy got out coached by Teddy and Olie in a
national title game. I mean, come on, this guy had
(30:04):
more tindalent than anybody in the history of college basketball
for ten years and got a whole one title out
of it. What it's good. The most overrated coach in
the history of college basketball is John call Perry, and
unfortunately he was ours. So screw John Caller Perry. I
can't stand him. He was arrogant, all does All.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
Right, I appreciate I appreciate the call. There's a little much.
That's there's one side of the argument.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
There's some people on that side.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
But again, all these people, not one person said they
would boo, and I saw some people shaking their head
yes on that. It's all It's all about, all about
how it's articulate. By the way, Kentucky did get four
All Stars in the NBA All Star Game last night.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Anthony, that's great, Anthony Davis.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
You probably would have guessed Carl Towns has made it,
shake Gilgess, Alexander has made it. But then, for the
very first time, Tyler Hero was named an All Star
last night. There's video of him, Pacy. He looked like me,
uh Shannon watching a UK basketball game. He was like
he had this literally except for his shorts were way
(31:09):
longer than I would wear. Yeah, but he had his
uh he had his hoodie on over his head and
he was just walking back and forth like this when
they were gonna announce, and then when they hit it,
he just started doing and I was like, man, that's
me during the games, and in theory is that should
matter much less to me.
Speaker 7 (31:24):
I'm happy for him though, Yeah, first time and well
deserved this year.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
I do like that he cared like they always started
to act like they don't care, but he could tell.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
Very much care.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
I got to show how a little. I know the NBA.
Speaker 6 (31:34):
I didn't realize that he was having that special of
a season. I knew he was doing well, but I
didn't know it was an All Star type year that
was huge for him. Did anyone think when he committed
here his thirtieth prospect or whatever. You'd seen the NBA
All Star one day.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
He and shake yil Jess Alexander.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Think about it, those dudes weren't even McDonald's all Americans
and he came.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
And you know when.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
People make the argument Cow never developed players, those are
two guys that make a pretty good argument that he did.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Uh, he could do that with the right dudes. Who's next?
Peggy is next? Peggy?
Speaker 12 (32:02):
Go ahead, Peggy, Hey guys, good morning, good morning. He
said that Ellen's not coming to the game, and I
have it on good authority that she is in Electington,
saying in her best friends.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
Peggy. Wait, man, Peggy has it on good authority.
Speaker 6 (32:24):
She's supposed to be sick.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Wow Peggy, Peggy yep?
Speaker 12 (32:33):
Okay, Well anyway, Uh on Instagram this morning, Uh, coach
said Coach Pope said that they are wearing but that
the coaching game is wearing special shoes tonight.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Yeah, it's for the coaches versus cancers. The cancer shoes
they're usually designed by kids.
Speaker 12 (32:57):
Yes they are, and then they're going to oxy.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
That's very cool. Yeah. I looked at popes. They were neat.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Yeah, that's something that started to appreciate the call. Well,
Nike puts out these shoes, these door and bockers that
they take kids with terminal illness, and they designed them,
and I have a couple pairs of them. And now
that's extending to the world of coaches as a whole.
And so some kid in Kentucky, I think each designed
the shoes the coaches will wear. I think that's a
really neat thing.
Speaker 14 (33:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:23):
I mean yearsually they've done coaches verse cancer forever and
they'd wear sneakers, but just recently started letting the kids
actually hand paint the shoes. And I think that's so cool.
Imagine just being a little kid. You're painting there in
your room and you look up on TV and Mark
Pope's wearing it on the sideline. That's got to be
awesome for all of them.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
It is awesome.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
And you know, I think in the article on The
Athletic today about Pope, it talked about it seems like
every day he's doing another something absurdly Yes, right, like
who I mean, it seems in terms of good deeds,
he couldn't seemingly do more.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Tell me about stock toor.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
Mortgage, Stocktor mortgage? Can I read my read I got
for today.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
We should that's what we say.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
Okay, that's probably what they pick.
Speaker 7 (34:00):
I'm not ready, right, you're stalling. Basically, you can't get
his phone to turn on. Open that droid won't even
come on. Heck with it, you got it Stockton Morga.
Oh now it's on.
Speaker 4 (34:10):

Speaker 3 (34:11):

to do that. I always have you do it in
the eleven thirty hour. Wondering if after fifteen years you
might remember.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
Phone come on, comes on like you want to get ready?
Speaker 4 (34:22):
Put it away. If you don't say something quick, I'm

So that their money is worth today. I got a
lot of well stalling.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
I got a really good read deal.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
Save it from that.
Speaker 6 (34:49):
They probably wanted you to read that.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Yeah, yeah, save it for the future, for Mondays, take
a break, very back, It's KSR. Waterback.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Whiskey th Whiskey Thief on
the Kentucky Bourbon Craft Trail working farm in Franklin County
and now a tasting room.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Here in Louisville right in New lou.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Off Nanny goat Strut Road eight five' nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven. Thank you, folks for a
great crowd here today in Louisville. By the way, they say, Shannon,
it just came out that the the like you said,
the helicopter was flying in the wrong place and the
one uh person in the whatever was doing two jobs.
Speaker 7 (35:32):
That's the crazy thing to me is that, you know,
for a job that important, you got one person trying
to do two people's jobs.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Yeah, one person was supposed to do planes and one
helicopter and they were left to have to do both.
Speaker 16 (35:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (35:43):
That's that's not good at all. That's got a I mean,
you know, people's wives lost because of that.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
I can't do that, two twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
A couple other things real quick, uh, Maxwell Harriston named
the MVP of Senior Bowl Defensive Players practice so far
down in the Senior Bowl out now they're saying may
have played his way into a first round pick.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
You know that we kind of got cheated, he got hurt,
didn't play it this much this season. But obviously they
knew going into the season he was gonna be a
high draft pick. And now he's improved his stock even
more with what he's been doing down there.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
And Dean Walker's kind of like got himself into shape.
What happens with Drew if after that terrible football season,
we have two players going to first round.
Speaker 6 (36:24):
I mean, Doomus Johnson might not be first round, but
he'll be up there high too. It's gonna stink, especially
with the secondary thing, because it's looking like Harrison's gonna
have a good spot in the NFL. We're gonna be
looking at Carrington, Valentine, Andrew Phillips, Max Harrison always starting
roles in the NFL in the years they played here.
That defense mightn't forget to be Mike he was. He
was a part of some good teams. I mean, we're
(36:46):
gonna see NFL players that we didn't get as much
out of as we wanted here in Lexton, even though
Harrison had a great year two years ago.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
And can I quickly say, will you say I was
right on the drones? Uh?
Speaker 7 (36:56):
Yeah, well what was the latest that came out on it?
That it wasn't dro it was it was.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
Just it was they were all approved and it was
not sure.
Speaker 7 (37:02):
I mean I didn't take a strong stance on.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
That pro like we're being invaded by I.
Speaker 7 (37:06):
Don't think that might have been more dru than me
on this.
Speaker 6 (37:09):
I was worried what they were looking for.
Speaker 7 (37:11):
Yeah, well sure it was drunk.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Okay, I just did I told you not to worry
about it. You were worried about who's up next?
Speaker 7 (37:18):
Till next time when it's actually Aliens.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Josh is up there, Josh, go ahead, Josh.
Speaker 16 (37:25):
All right, guys, got two quick things. First off, I
think everyone misunderstood cal. It wasn't that he knows that
Ellen isn't gonna come. It's just he hasn't seen her.
And then the other thing is he was always famous
for at least one time every season he would get
ejected from a game. If we think that's this game, who.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
Does been said it for a month? Well, I want
odds on it. I'll bet on it right now. I mean,
he can't just go out and get ejected. But if
they're getting beat bad, I would not be shocked if
he goes looking for it.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Yeah they Well, you know, I heard the guys on
Field of sixty eight last night said we're gonna tell
how much Arkansas's players, like, how about how hard they
play this game?
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Like do they want him to be embarrassed or not?
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Which I thought was kind of an interesting point, like,
if you really have a lot of pride in your coach,
you know how much this one will mean for him,
so you would probably give like that extra ounce of effort.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Who's next?
Speaker 5 (38:19):
Tammy?
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Is next? Tammy? Go ahead, Tammy. By the way, this
is also Jackson Robins Hang.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Hang on, Tammy, I'm sorry, it's also a Jackson Robinson
return game. Jackson Robinson played at Art, did not like
it was so apparently he his Arkansas time was brutally terrible.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
So and you know, for everybody else, this is a
cow game.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
In Jackson Robinson's mind, this is a different game, so
he may have that exact same incentive, just in a
different way.
Speaker 11 (38:53):
Go ahead, Tammy, Okay, I just want to say, if
you guys are on the air, I am listen day
I love me some Mad Jones show. But here's my point,
so you're welcome. Nobody has mentioned this. This is a
rhetorical question. I'll go fast. Why would any big Blue
(39:15):
fan wanna boo cal Perry? I have another plan.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
We want to on a second. Who said that? Over there?
Somebody was agreed?
Speaker 16 (39:25):
Was he you?
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Okay, go ahead, Tammy, say what's your plan?
Speaker 11 (39:28):
Okay? My plan is they announced Cali Perry as the
head coach for Arkansas. Everybody stands up, gives him a
standing ovation and one, two three, thank you for leaving.
Speaker 16 (39:48):
Here we are because.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
You know, Tammy, I it's interesting you get it.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Uh oh, you're saying make it and ironic thank you,
like thank you for leaving.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Is that what you mean?
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Yeah, Irony's tough even on phone calls, and I think
it's gonna be really hard to do in front of
twenty four thousand people.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
But I, Tammy, I understand what you're saying. We are
better off. But well, let me just say this.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Would you give him a round of applause just because
you think he did well here?
Speaker 11 (40:24):
Not tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Okay? All right? So so are you going to the game, Tammy?
Speaker 3 (40:32):
No, okay, I understand well, Tammy, thank you for listening
to the show. And uh, I appreciate your idea. I
like your sort of sarcastic cynicism coming there.
Speaker 11 (40:42):
Okay. Or we could say thank you and go into
we love Pope, we love thank.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
You, appreciate the girl, Tammy, love it. There we go.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
So you have, We've had the spectrum, we've had boo
as loud as you want, We've had cheer and say
thank you. Let's talk about the actual game. Uh, Shannon

game tomorrow night. Gonna have to come down. Corn red

the score gonna be tomorrow for Kentucky and Arca.
Speaker 7 (41:31):
I think Kentucky cover, they win. I think they cover,
and I think I'm gonna say eighty six seventy one
Kentucky by fifteen. I'm gonna say Jackson Robinson has another
big game tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
Fifteen would be quite a victory.
Speaker 7 (41:43):
Right, I mean, you know, you look at what Arkansas
has done a lot of their games. They're down fifteen,
sixteen points.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Yeah, So I think this is gonna be an awesome
day to be in Lexington Tomorrow. Our pregame show starts
at six thirty at kspar. Come on out and see us.
I think that place is gonna be fun all day.
I think Lexington's gonna be fun. Here's what I'd say.
Whatever you decide to do, whether you boo, whether you cheer,
or whatever, also enjoy that these are kind of the
(42:09):
good old days back again in terms of the feeling
that you have about this team. Tomorrow is a good
turn your page moment. We've all talked a lot about
Cal since he left. Honestly, especially if we win tomorrow,
that page can completely turn. Because I do think we
are much better off now than we were one year ago,
and for that I'm excited. I think we win tomorrow,
(42:29):
and I think tomorrow night will be a lot of Fun,
Be Loud and Rupperina. Thank you folks very much here
at Whiskey Thief. We appreciate it coming. Thank you guys
for filling in for me yesterday. We will see you
at six point thirty tomorrow. On all of their stations,
