Speaker 2 (00:59):
Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones water back.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I number two Kentucky Sports Radio eight. I'm nine two
eighth twenty two eighty seven. Cas bar now open if
you want to join us. Had a fun day here Saturday,
full crowd early in the morning before the game, then
during the game, uh, and then when I did the
postgame show after the game. It was a fun, fun
day in here. And then Otaga Oway had a signing yesterday.

(01:26):
Mario documented a lot of the cute pictures. Nice job
with the crowd coming out with no notice. I mean
we didn't even we didn't even know for sure he
was coming until like seven o'clock. And then they changed
the time at like ten o'clock because we were supposed
to be two to three point thirty. Then Mark Pope
called a film session for three o'clock. Normally he gives
him Sundays off. He called him in for a film session,

(01:49):
so we had to move it up to one o'clock
so Otaga could get to his film session. But normally
they Sundays off. They said, no, we need a film
session because we got Tennessee coach and.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
People still came. Line was out the door before you
started at one o'clock, so they were excited to come meeting.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Yeah, I like it looks to be a very young
crowd too. I mean, the kids loved coming out meeting
all the players. Like you said, Mario did a great
job of cathering and all. But that when Tago walked
in and that line was out the door, I knew
he was in for a fun afternoon.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Was impressed.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
I mean, big shout out to UK fan base because
you know, one of the things is they wanted to
do these signings, but they didn't want to announce it
for a Sunday lose and then have people complain, so
they were like, we're only doing them after we win.
But that means there's like no time to promote it
really and so to have that crowd with really no
time promoting, big salute to everybody for that, for making

(02:37):
the otaka seem to.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Really enjoy it, and on Super Bowl Sunday when people
have a lot of plan we.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Didn't mention, by the way, our commercial, the UKFCU commercial,
So you had told me it was gonna be between
the first and the second quarter, That's all we were told.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
Yeah, so I was I was excited.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
I turned the TV you know, we have it on,
and then there we are, and we come on and
you spit directly in my face, which is really nice
to have a debut on, if not national television, at
least local television, just with Ryan Lemon spinning directly in
my face. You know, they use like cameras that make

(03:15):
you look like a movie star. So I'm glad that
I got to be movie star. Good getting spit in
my face, But that was neat. I have to say
it was kind of cool to have a commercial on
the Super Bowl. I mean, I know it wasn't It's
not quite Sydney Sweeney and the Harry met Sally commercial,
and I'm not on Bill Belichick's girlfriend's level, but nevertheless,
it was still cool.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
I got to re tell this story because you were
a trooper that day. Man, I'm telling you, you stepped
up and took one for the team. Because I was
supposed to just spit water on the floor, and then
you said, let's do it again. I'll aim spit on me.
You had to get like a red jacket on.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Well.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I mean, I was like, if I'm gonna come out
here and do this, let's make it funny. And I
was like, you know, if you're can have a spit take.
Having it go in your face is funnier than on
the ground. So I was like, just you know, it's
not something I say a lot in my private life,
spit in my face.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
But I was like, you know what, just as a run.
Not definitely not.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
To ryme, but I was just like, you know what,
spit in my face, and uh and and.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
And it worked.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
He said you got one take again.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
I said, if you don't get this take, it's not happening.
And then they did it, so you know what it is.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
So you got to do it for the bit. You're
an actor. You channeled your Daniel day Lewis. You got
completely into the role and sacrifice that. Everybody's got their thing.
Daniel day Lewis had my left foot, Lincoln.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
I have a Sasquatch commercial with Kobe Brea and UK
Federal Credit, and everybody has their sort of one that
that that the sticks out.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Did you get sick after Ryan spit on you though,
because you know sometimes he has these head colds and
sun headaches and all the stuff he going on and.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Get sick, But that was like it was like a
week later. So I don't think. I don't I don't
think he did. He he did that too.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
It good performance behind the scenes. As soon as it happened,
all the entire crews like it. Win in his mouth
and win in his mouth.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Another thing, Shannon that I don't like to hear people
just say out out yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
I mean like you don't need to be screaming.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
It went in his mouth everywhere lives forever.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
So so there was that.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Now I have one more story I want to tell
you that is nonsports, and then we'll get back to Kentucky.
I may have laughed harder yesterday, Drew than I've laughed
in a long time.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
So I went old school.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Lexington this weekend to restaurants like everybody always likes the
hot new thing.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
Yeah right, I went old school. I went to two
of the oldest restaurants in this city.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
First, I went to Paisanos out on Nicholsville Road. Yeah,
I hadn't been there in thirty years. And I say
this with love and reverence. They haven't changed the place
at all since then. I haven't changed it thirty years.
They haven't changed anything. Same rolling chairs.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Right, So food's good.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
They were a little understaff, which having done this restaurant,
I've learned to kind of have sympathy for right but
very old school, you know what I mean, very old school.
And the crowd, the crowd there looked like it was
like casino night on a casino on the Mississippi River.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
Like it was.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
It was like the buffet at four point thirty. But
you know what, food was good. It's usually good. Then
yesterday my parents were in town and we went to Dudley's.
Oh wowka, you know Dudley's. This, Yeah, I love Dudley's.
It's a very like old school Lexington thing. So Larry
and I are sitting on one side of the table.
Mom is in the booth. This poor server all right again,

(06:36):
I don't blame her. She was doing the best she can.
She's walking, and she's walking behind us, and she gets
about five feet behind us, and I hear her like trip,
and you know how you can hear plates fall.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Oh yeah, I hear it fall.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
And then there's like a two second pause, and all
of a sudden, two seconds later I hear troop and
Ketchup has flown through the air over top of me
and landed directly on Larry's bald.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
Oh no, he is I don't you have to.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Understand, all of you that have seen I love Larry.
Larry's eighty seven years old. But there is now ketchup
on his pants. There is a like a cupcake, a
little blop of ketchup on the top of his bald head,
like on the peak of his head, and a.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Little dollup is hanging from his ear like an earring.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Okay, now he sees it.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
Was there something about Larry. That's exactly right.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
He sees it on his pants and he's wiping up
his pants.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
But I look at him.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
He has a ketch up on the top of his
head and an ear ring of ketchup, which I don't
think he can feel, hedn't know it. And I fall
on the like I cannot stop laughing. Poor ketchup head.
He's sitting there with ketchup on his head, and I,
rather than cleaning him off, I just couldn't stop laughing.

(08:13):
It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. I then
come I cleaned him off. There of course mortified, right
like they're mortified. They feel awful, But I want to
thank them because I will have the picture of Larry
with that ketchup head, like literally that is in my
brain forever.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Ryan.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
It was one of the They ended up giving us
free desserts, which they didn't have to do.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
I should have paid them for the ketchup that was
on the top of his head.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Funny just hearing you tell the story. I can't imagine
sitting there saying, I putter, you didn't take a picture
of him before?

Speaker 5 (08:42):
You want it too?

Speaker 3 (08:43):
But I was like, I feel like that. My mom
wouldn't don't you post that? But I but I couldn't.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
I couldn't help it.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
With his little I would love I would love to
see a photo of that. I went to Dudley's week
ago too. I guess, I guess we're playing all the hits.
I had a good time there. No, it's very good.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
People should people should go there, all right? Tucky and
Tennessee tomorrow, how do.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
You feel about it?

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Before South Carolina, I said, four game win streak incoming.
I'm sticking with it. I doubt Tennessee takes forty five
three pointers this time around and clanks the fourth of them.
That was very helpful in Knoxville. But I still like
how Kentucky's getting back to full health, assuming we have
Jackson Robbins in a little better off after the After
the game Saturday, I had a big brace on his wrists.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
I kind of didn't like we put him back in
because then he got hurt, like one play later and
he was holding his I mean we were up twenty
at that point. It felt like we could have you know,
because I worry about that. That's his shooting hand. Now
he did make a couple of threes, so I feel
like he's not you know, he's clear, but I do
work that's something you know, as a person with a
wrist injury that can linger, and we need it to

(09:51):
not linger. So my view is, man, make sure we
because we can't score what the amount we need to
score without him putting him buck.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
So I hope, we hope we get that help. I was.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
I was worried about him. His first couple of shots
were short, you know, hit the front of the rim.
That he finally got on track and hit a couple.
I'm like, you mean, when I got about twenty, just
pull him out, just sit him down, no sense reinjuring it.
And then of course he did. Now, last time we
played Kentucky went down there, you know, really short handed,
didn't have Butler or Car probably have our best win
of the season to win down there without those two guys.
Now you got now you got him back at full strength,

(10:23):
and you got him at home. You gotta look as
good as Tennessee's defense was, we still found a way
to exploit it last time without Butler and Car.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
But do you think like the fact we won down
there makes it less likely we win here? I mean
with during col Era, there was a couple of years
where we beat them there and they beat us here.
It was like it was odd we kind of alternated.
I think they did that with Florida. This year they
beat them at Florida. Florida beat them in Knoxville. H
Do you worry about that at all?

Speaker 4 (10:48):
A Litto, I haven't swept them much with Barnes there,
and but the recipe is gonna be the same, sag
off and dare them to shoot. Hopefully it's as bad
as it was the first trip down there. But that's
what the game will come down to if Tennessee take
advantage of those threes.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
It is worth noting that we beat them without Butler
and Carr, and we're gonna have those guys, and you
got to think we have a better chance. Car specifically,
I think, you know, can help with the matchup with
their big guy Igor or whatever his name is, because
he gave us, he gave us problems down there, So
I think Carr will be an extra. You know, that
guy's slow, so it's got a guy Car I actually

(11:22):
think can defend a little bit. Yeah, he had a
big game.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
Amar played well in that game too, had a big
double double, so hopefully he can run that back. I
also just think the crowd will be a big part
of it.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Yeah, So what about the crowd do you expect?

Speaker 3 (11:33):
I mean, we most of the time, these big games
against big teams, we tend to play on Saturday. Our
Auburn game coming up is on Saturday. This is a
Tuesday night. You think the crowd will be ready to rock.
I think we've seen it. They absolutely will bring it
to allrow night. You know, we've gotten lucky none of
those nine o'clock Tuesday night games, which kind of maybe's
fans stay away from these seven o'clock games. Man, the
crowds have been absolutely fantastic so far. We have had

(11:55):
a lot of I mean, the only nine o'clock game
on the schedule during the week as we play at
Oklahoma at nine o'clock. But we've gotten very fortunate about
having the games B seven.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Yeah, and really just since the Pope era has started,
Rupp has just been a different animal. It's been good
for just about every game. This Saturday was awesome. I
have no doubt they'll show up even though it's a
Tuesday night. It's Tennessee. They'll want to be in there
and pack it and be loud.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Now there's another big game, which is tonight. UK women
are at Old Miss. Now, let me set up for
you the UK women's.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Thing here for a second.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
We've only lost one game in the conference. This team
is twenty and two. They're gonna probably be ranked in
the top ten this week. Yeah, for the first time
in a long time for UK women. They play at
Old Miss tonight. They're favored. Kentucky should win. Oh missus
good though, but they can win if they win, though,
Thursday night is gonna be one of the biggest if

(12:50):
we win, one of the biggest games we've ever had
here in Lexington. You know, South Carolina already has a
loss in conference, has a loss. Texas has a loss,
so do we. But we played Texas here and we
still play LSU here. Now we have to go to

(13:10):
South Carolina. They're gonna play Texas here. If we win
tonight on Thursday night for first place in the SEC,
it'll be the first time two top ten teams have
played each other in here.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
In like a decade.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
You have to go back to when Matthew Mitchell went
against the Lawson at not Loston. I'm sorry, why do
I was forget her name, Chris, No, it's South Carolina,
Oh don don Stateley. When they had that game eight
or nine years ago that I went to. They played
on a Sunday and they were both top ten.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
This will be the last.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Time I'll have a top ten matchup, and we we'll
probably have that here Thursday.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
But we gotta win tonight to set that up.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
I think Kentucky's don't announced it to sell out. The
Texas game's already sold out. I believe should be.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
I'm going yep, I mean like that, this is gonna
be one of the more exciting women's.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
Games that we've ever had at this school.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
I mean it like it's But now you gotta win
the night to set it up. But there's a chance
Thursday night. Drew you're talking about one of the elite
environments and elite games that Kentucky has ever had for
their women's program.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it, I said Pat Summit.
I remember a Tennessee game going to one over there
when Matthew Mitchell was the coach and some it was
still the coach. And I mean it, you would have
thought Memorial was Ropperina, how rowdy it was. And it's
only gotten better. The venue has gotten better with the remodel.
I think it's gonna be awesome in there. And tonight's
game and that game are both nationally televised two, So
if you can't make it.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
For people who don't know that game is on ESPN
two and the game Thursday night, I believe it's on ESPN.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
I believe it.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
I think it's back to back ESPN two, back to
back ESPN two. I mean it's it's on national TV.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
So tonight let's all watch. But then Thursday, if we
win tonight, we're doing a thing Thursday just like that.
To me, what Kenny Brooks has done at UK is
worthy of celebration, and then Thursday night is the chance
to do it, cause you're getting I mean I didn't
think we'd have a match up like that here in
a long long time.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
You get that win, then you can really start dreaming
about some special things going on. So if they get
that win.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Then they'll play LSU the next week and you're like, wow,
we could win the SEC.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
Yeah you know. I mean that is if they can
win these two games this week.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
If they win tonight, it's ties the best start in
school history through twenty two games, just to show how
well they're playing.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Hey, BBN, If you're exercising more, being healthier, saving more money,
those are good in New Year's resolutions, but you also
need to feel good. And Court Physical Therapy has been

pain free on your way to achieving your goals. To
begin care, go to Court dot com for a center
near you. That's Kort dot com. We're gonna take a
break and be right back here at the kaspar and
Grail's Kentucky Sports Radio. Well done, Shannon, you can just

(16:07):
you know your knowledge of songs. I hate for the
people on the podcast they hear it because it's always
so dead on yep.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
And like, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
I do think we're allowed, now, Shannon, to put were
Wolves of London on there. Well, I think so it is.
I think it has to be like twelve seconds or under,
but just on the intro. So okay, we're allowed to
do that. I don't think we can do all the
other stuff, but I do think we can do were
Wolves London.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
So, Shannon, the music selection adds so much to our show.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
I hate that.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
I hate that can That's one of the things I
hate for the podcast people. But it's like you know,
I mean, it's all radio shows on podcasts.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Uh, it'll get It'll get worked out.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Someday, like I heart, and the music companies will reach
some resolution, I'm sure, But for right now, uh, we
we're gonna have to get some band to just give
us all their music.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
I don't know how we're gonna be able to do that.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
The Texas game is not sold out, by the way,
not sold out, so Thursday night, if you want to go,
I mean, this is a top ten women's matchup, and
I'm sure it'll be sold out by game time, but
if you want to go, there.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
Are tickets now for Thursday night.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
It's the next two games after that that are sold out,
the two weekend games. But Thursday night against Texas, you
still there's still a handful.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
Of tickets left.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
They play Thursday and turn around play Sunday there too.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Did someone tell me it's supposed to snow eight inches tomorrow?
When did that happen?

Speaker 1 (17:26):
Three to eight inches? I think they're projecting starting this
tomorrow morning?

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Like, who said that was? Okay? We played Tennessee tomorrow. Yeah,
I just know.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
Got the snow out of my yard from the last one.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
What is that? Well?

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Now that now that might make a difference. I'll tell
you this though, When it snows like that, the people
that go.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
To the game more into it, more into it.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
Yeah, they feel like, we're gonna say this to all
of you that are listening.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
If it gets if we get eight inches of snow
and you can't come here, send me the tickets and
let me give them away so that that arena is loud,
all right.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
I mean I'll I'll.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Make sure i'll because there'll be people here who would
walk to that in Lexington. Don't let your seat go
unsold because of the snow. Yeah, not for the Tennessee.
Not for the Tennessee game. If this were some other
like uh, you know, terrible game, that's different. But for Tennessee,
we got to have a crowd in there.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Yeah, this is big for SEC tournament seating. You're placing
the conference Listen, get to buy.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
We're gonna be hovering most likely around seven, eight, nine,
ten in the SEC.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
So that so to get a bye and did not.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Have to play five games in five days, which is
what you would have to do. We gotta win some
We gotta win at least one this week to make
that happen.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
You'd feel comfortable over Tennessee though, you'd have the same
record with the tiebreaker there, and they still have some
tough games. This is big for the head to head
with where we got some bad luck because Old Miss
was about to lose to LSU and then they went
and came back.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Let's talk about those Saturday games for a minute. Clips
and Beats Duke. Yes, we've played both of them, so
it really didn't matter.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
Cooper flag falling down here.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Cooper flag is now falling down at the end of
three games, you is that just coincidence? Like, why is
my man just does he just trip? Why does he
have why does he.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Have three fall downs at the end of three games?
You gotta think the fact that's happened three times. It's
something he's doing mentally, like he's not gonna get in
his feet set When he tried to make that jump stop,
he just tried to move too fast, do too much.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
And this was like a banana peel fall.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Like this was like like he would like it was
like like that one was a wild.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
One as a cartoon looney Tunes fall right in the
big moment. But I mean the story of that game,
I didn't care who won. Really, it was so good
to see Dicky V that intro that was not I
admit I just got a little wet there a little
bit watching Dicky V have his moment and.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
He you know, his voice is not as strong, but
he's still got the inders, you see, right, Like he's
still got the pinty.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Beer coop of flags a real thing, baby.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
And even though I can't stand Duke and like I don't,
I like it's fitting he does Duke games because that's
really his thing. You know he loves he loves the
whole dupe thing Clemson, though, Shannon, I still loved the
dude on Clemson. Well, you you were at wrestling, so
you didn't see it. The dude at Clemson that tore
us up, that looks like just a regular guy schefter, Scheffler,

(20:12):
Sheefflin or whatever.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
Yeah, how is that guy good? He he tore duke
up to you?

Speaker 3 (20:19):
How is this dude that doesn't seem one bit athletic?

Speaker 5 (20:23):
He had twenty rebounds against us? How does he do it?

Speaker 4 (20:27):
He had double against them too.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
It was I remember that guy though when we were
watching it at the bar of the Clemson.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Looks like me with Carrott Top's hair, That's what they say,
but it's not.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
I don't think that's fair, But like, how does he
do it?

Speaker 4 (20:41):
I don't know such a YMCA game And that was
my first time watching Clemson since we lost to them.
It was just a flashback to that with him and
the guy. But it looks like he's fifty. Maroline Clipson
back to a dark place.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
That Clemson team is sorry, because then you had cal
Perry and Arkansas. They were down twenty to Alabama with
six minutes left and ended up having a shot at
the end to tie it.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Big Z just decided to become Novitzky at the end.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
Big Z end up with twenty four twenty five points.
I think he hit four or five three pointers.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Worst mustache I've ever seen, Z? What Someone tell me?
What is happening with Big Z's mustache? Did you see it?

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (21:17):
Yeah, I squinted. Now you had to squitch to see it. Yeah,
I saw it.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
He looks like in like.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
A British detective show, how there'll be just one guy
with a little like that is Z.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
That's the worst mustache I've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
He shut the ball so well I would keep it.
Maybe that's, you know, a good luck charm for him.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
He looks like he's like trying to change his identity
for a party or something like in be French.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
I think he's one of those long like cigarettes that
are in the hole We're.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
This mustache is I've ever seen in my life? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (21:48):
But he was incredible. I mean they would have gotten
destroyed if he hadn't taken off in the second half.
He was the entire offense that game, and it was
a little hard to watch as someone who still loves
big Z.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Did you see yesterday when they I told Hugh B.
Brown goodbye? I missed it. I didn't see.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
That ninety one years old.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
You know, I watched about the last quarter of that game,
and like it's clear, like his voice, he's I can
see why he's quitting, but his mind is still like
he's seeing things on the court. And they kept showing
highlights of him, and there were a couple of things
that I thought were cool. One he was like an

(22:27):
old man pistol pete. They showed him at like a
basketball clinic, and he was in on a basketball clinic.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
Like on the streets of New York.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
So he's surrounded like by all these young black kids
and he at this time is like fifty five, and
he's throwing it between his head and between his legs
and all, and they're going crazy. Also, you know, he
coached the Kentucky Colonels. Ye, so a lot of the
videos are from when he was then. And on his
goodbye he said, my two years with the Kentucky Colonels

(22:56):
were the happiest two years of my life. That's awesome
because you know he won a title I think with
them as well. And so he had the suit and
the Kernel's thing, so that was kind of.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
Neat as well.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
I liked all the players. When Sugar's hand and there's
a part where he says, can we pause for a
moment while I'll have a tear like you know, you
could tell us just getting to him for everybody say
that out loud.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
It's spent his whole life and to still even be
trying at ninety one.

Speaker 5 (23:19):
To me, that's inspirational.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Like when these old guys like Corso and Vital and
you be doing. It's easy for people to say, hey,
just move on, but there's also something inspiring about a
person that wants to keep going even if it's not great,
they still want to do it.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
I love that about him. We'll take a break, be
right back' KSR. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
He'll make them pay now.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
Here's Matt Jones, walcome back.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Hey if I'm nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven some text machine ones,
we've kind of been just talking. Let's go to their
seven seven two seven seven four five two five four
one person writes, Matt, do you still think it's since
firing when senators want to be a senator when they're
ninety years old less?

Speaker 5 (24:04):
So I think those guys can step us.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
I'm not saying they can't be in the workforce, but
you know, some of these men and women like Mitch
and Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Grassley and some of those
man he's Stebby.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
You know, we y'all can keep going.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
I just with the announcers thing I think is probably
that's a little different to me.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
You know.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
I think it was during the Clemson Duke game, Corey
Alexander said he was telling a history about Hue Brown.
He said he would come out like an hour and
a half two hours before every game with a yellow
notepad and write down notes for the game. Who's already call?

Speaker 3 (24:37):
I'll tell you when you get around like real professionals,
and you see what they do to prepare for the game.
Like if you ever get a chance, if you're at
a basketball game, walk.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
By Tom Leach and look at his note.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Yeah, I mean he's got this big card and it's
got so much stuff on it, like so much stuff,
and I'm not gonna when it comes to ESPN people,
some of them have it and some of them don't.
Not gonna say which one switch, but some of the
ones I think that you see that you're always like man,
that person's always prepared.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Go look at go, look at the go look at
the notes.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Well, that's what I do for the show, like you
gotta you do the things like I have my list
of topics, I have my super Bowl topics. I have
the reads that Ryan will forget to do, like I've
got all the things right here. They do that for
play by play and they have notes on each player.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
It's pretty impressive.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
And they'll go to the extra mile and call a
school and make sure they're pronouncing it.

Speaker 5 (25:28):
I can't even say the wordiation right.

Speaker 4 (25:31):
I remember even Freddie would do that for football games,
and I thought that was so good.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Freddy's notes were unbelievable. Freddy for just our pregame show
would have crazy enough.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Front back of pages. You know, Tom Leech, I heard
him tell a story one time he learned how to
get to his show prep from Kwood. Okay, I said,
Kaviod was very meticulous in his show prep.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Before you got I think Kwood kept all of his
and I want to say that back when the old
UK Museum was there, they had all of k Wood's
old prep cards. I don't know what happened when that museum.
One of the real shames of Kentucky basketball is when
that museum shut down, the stuff just got dispersed, like

(26:10):
like it you know, they gave it to donors. Some
people just came and got stuff, and like the history
of UK basketball just kind of got dispersed out into
the world. And that's that's that's a little bit of
a shame to me.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
If anyone's been to Kansas at the Fog they have
the museum, you walk through it and you see, like
every year they have everything in there. And for Kentucky
to have so much tradition that's just in garages, right,
that's not stuff you can recreate.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
One person writes Matt you talked about Kendrick Lamar saying
it wasn't for us. Who do you think the NFL's
demographic is. But that's the point. They don't do it
for you because you're watching the game anyway, right.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
The goal and the.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Super Bowl is to get people who don't normally watch
the game. They know you're gonna watch it because you
care about the game. So what they're doing is they're
putting a halftime show to get people who wouldn't otherwise
watch the game. What are if you're gonna be watching
the game anyway, then you're gonna sit through it. Their
goal is to get It's the same reason Taylor Swift
they show her at the games. It's not because they

(27:09):
think Bobby football fan likes Taylor Swift. They want little
girls to tune in to the game hoping to see
Taylor Swift.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
And that's that's the goal.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
So the halftime show, they not like us because it
ain't for us right Like it's there like he's doing
it for somebody else.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
That's the point. And millions of people are watching. There's
not an artist that everyone's gonna like, Like maybe you
wanted Jason al Dean. Okye, everyone's gonna.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Go Y's a lot of people saying that, like, why
don't we get somebody?

Speaker 5 (27:39):
Everybody would like, tell me who that is?

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Who is the person that could play the Super Bowl
that every different group of people would like.

Speaker 5 (27:48):
Who exists?

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Dolly?

Speaker 5 (27:50):
Dolly is the only one I do think. But Willy,
I love Willie, But Willy's kind of slow.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Now, if you listen to Willie like it's not I
don't know if he could handle that state Dolly could.
Dolly could get up there and start do leaning and
then bring Beyonce on for a song and take like
and and those women might do it too with it.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
That could work.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
But even though you have kids going wise Dolly out here,
you just can't please every demographic.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
But she might be the only person is Dolly Parton.
And I don't know if they would give it to her.
I'd before it, but like people like, think of a
rock band, like what rock.

Speaker 5 (28:28):
Band is everybody gonna want to hear?

Speaker 4 (28:31):
I think my I like Kendrick. My biggest complaint was
it should have been a little Wayne. Now, I know
that's not gonna please everyone either, but he is mister.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Dwayne would pass out in three minutes.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
I don't know if we should have had the big timers
and juvenile.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
Yeah, I mean, listen, I would like that.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
But my question is, if you think Kendrick is gonna
make the why would they like juvenile?

Speaker 4 (28:52):
And like, you know, I'm not saying that's the answer,
but my pick would have been that for the New
Orleans Ties.

Speaker 5 (28:58):
Yeah, but still that doesn't peel to everyone.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
I saw a lot of people say Bruce Springsteen, I
love Bruce Springstey. You can go to Bruce Springsteen concert
and you won't see one black person, not one, So
that's not gonna work.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
And young people watch the super Bowl and don't listen
to Bruce Springsteen.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Yeah, I mean, when's the last time you were on
a college campus and saw young people listening to Bruce
springste Never. I mean, you know, somebody suggested the Killers
and that that one song everybody does know, but you
could bring them only for.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
That one song, because.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
Then who's gonna care about their other song?

Speaker 4 (29:32):
I think part of that's what made UH some of
the past better, like they'd bring guests of all kinds
of genres. I wish Kendrick had worked in a few
more people, even if it's still in hip hop. In
the past, it seems like there's been seven or eight
people joining the show and it was just mostly him.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
And I've got something that we don't normally do on here. Okay,
I'm going to give a Trump compliment.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Okay, by the way, there are five hundred things that
I keep my mouth shut about that I would complay,
but I'm gonna give roll.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
The tape, Shannon, okay, marking the tape.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
He announced last night, probably because he was bored that, uh,
he's getting rid of pennies.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
I've been on this train, yep for a decade. I
was antipenny before.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
It was cool. Yeah, you were. I hate pennies.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
I've always hated pennies, and then I read one time
that they cost like one point one cents to make
and they're only worth a cent, which I'm not I'm
not a math major, but that strikes me as something
that in and of itself should have made us get
rid of pennies. That would be the only thing I
needed to hear. And he says he's gonna get rid
of pennies. Great decision. Getting rid of pennies should have

(30:40):
happened long ago. There's no reason to happen.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
I am on the no penny train. Also, this is
a good move by him. Okay, if he wants to
go to Nichols, then next year, just to slowly eliminate
the coins that we.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
Don't need anymore. You want to get rid of Nichols too?
Why the way?

Speaker 3 (30:55):
My mom just suggested Ray Charles for the halftime hasn't
he been dead for like twenty years?

Speaker 2 (31:00):
We can't dig?

Speaker 1 (31:01):
That would be a a half time.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
I will say, Mom, if they could get if they
could get Ray Charles back, I would watch that Tupac.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
That would have been cool.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
It's been dead for like twenty years, has it been okay?
All right?

Speaker 1 (31:14):
So let's let's maybe John Lennon can join him.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Ray Charles Tupac and John lennonution.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
I would listen back to the pennies, What is the
argument for keeping them? Is there an argument? There can't
There can't be an argument for keeping it.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
So then we get a round everything up to the
nearest nickel.

Speaker 5 (31:33):
But that's fine, that's what I do.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Any what he says is he gonna get rid of pennies, though,
I mean there's a which is pennies out there.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
No, they'll just stop making them. They'll give you some
option where you can bring your pennies and turn them
into nickels and dimes, and then they'll get rid of them.
And then at some point they'll just people will stop
using them because they won't be taken anyway. Like there's
a time in American history where they had a half
cent piece.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Now, They're just gone, and that's what will ultimately happen
to Pennies as well.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Nichols next year.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
My mom just wrote R I p ray Charles.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Sorry Karen, Mom, I'm sorry you had to learn that
he's gone.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
I do want to mention one more super Bowl thank you?

Speaker 5 (32:15):
Switch Okay.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Former UK player Darien Canard has now won three Super
Bowls in a row.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
Think about this.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
Darian Canard becomes only the sixth player in NFL history
to win three straight. Wow, he is you want to
talk about trivia question nobody will get. Yeah, there are
only six players in NFL history who have won three
straight Super Bowls and Darien Kanar is now one of
them because he was on the Chiefs the last two

(32:42):
years and he was on the Eagles this year.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
And his is the most impressive because he's only been
in the league three years, Like I mean, just every summer.
Does he expect to win the Super Bowl?

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Now? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (32:51):
And if you're a team wanting to win the Super Bowl,
you gotta take a chance and try to go get him.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
By the way, I'm also I'm for the plastic straws.
But people who keep saying he's going to get rid
of paper straws.

Speaker 5 (33:03):
He can't do that. I do want people to I
want y'all to do this for me.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
I don't care if you are the most deranged anti
Trump person or the most pro Trump person. Take a
moment in the next few days and read the Constitution
so you at least understand what the power of each
branch of government is. You as president can't just ban
paper straws like that's not in your powers.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
Right.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
You can't just shut down the Department of Education. That's
not in the president's powers. He can say he's gonna
do it, but he can't do it. Congress has to
do that. Now he may do it, but then the
Supreme Court's gonna reverse him. So just whether you love
him or you hate him, just read up on what
the power of the They are not God.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
They have limits to what they're allowed to do. I
just need to say that.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
But I am glad he's getting rid of pities. I
do think he can do that, and that's a good decision.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
I did wonder, like, do people just storm into probably
owned business and change their straws. I don't think you
can do that.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
Strust Now he can say.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
We he can make regulations that allow the continued use
of plastic straws, which is probably what he'll do.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
But he can't just be like, if you get a
paper straw, you're going to prison. That's not what the
president does.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
I got what more? I want to ask you, Bob,
I don't you want to talk about it front.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
I'll give you my answer as honest as I can.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
He wants to make Canada the fifty first state unless.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
We're gonna go back to imperial times where we invade
people at gunpoint and make you.

Speaker 5 (34:41):
Can't do that either. And let me why would Canada
want to be the fifty first?

Speaker 3 (34:46):
Of all, Canada is bigger than we are here. The
idea that they would take all that land and go,
you know what, give us the same rights as Rhode Island. Like,
if Canada did want to join the country, they they
probably demand to be like ten or fifteen states.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
They're not gonna be one.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Month stage at the hell of a state.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
And we act like people in Canada just fell off
the turnip truck.

Speaker 5 (35:10):
They have a pretty successful country.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Right, yes, you know they have more oil and lumber
than we do.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
So why would they just be like, yeah, we'll be
like Delaware. They're not gonna do that.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
Will be number fifty one.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
Yeah, they're not gonna do that. All right, tell me
about stockdon morg Oh, I got it, I got it.
Of course he's of course he's ready. I had it ready.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
It's always a surprise.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
He's no, he's always shocked at eleven four every show.
When I say tell me about Stock to Mortgage, he
always is like, is that.

Speaker 5 (35:40):
Something that happens?

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Oh, this is a good one that'll be worth the wait.
When people ask me who my favorite mortgage lender is,
I tell them, hands down Stocked.

Speaker 5 (35:49):
Who ask you, in all seriousness? Who it comes up
to you and ask you.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
That this nice man right here asks me that y'uring
a commercial?

Speaker 5 (35:54):
Ready? Okay, all right?

Speaker 1 (35:55):
What I think about mortgage lenders, The first lender that
comes to my mind is Stocked and Mortgage. Our friends
or doctor Mortgage have teams of mortgage loan originators ready
to help you find a new home loan that suits
your needs. So get them a call or go on
line at stuckin dot com stuct and Mortgage m A
last eight two five nine equal housing linder.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
All right, we will take a break and be right
back we were here at the Chaos Bart and Grills
Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
So Dolly could do it.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Dolly could do it.

Speaker 5 (36:21):
I mean Dolly could do it.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Like she could do it in a perfect way because
she could come out do like Joe Lean with Beyonce,
do nine to five, bring Taylor for a song, maybe
bring out.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
Like Miley cyrus Is or goddaughter my there you.

Speaker 3 (36:39):
Go and like just have like and they all would
do it cause its dog absolutely, like that's the only
woman who could get all of those people to kind
of play second fiddles. Dolly is the one that could
do it. So if I'm the super Bowl, that is
one Ryan I could see trying to make.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Half And if there's the one person that could have
a tracked a large audience young old life.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
And the thing about Dolly, she what's great about her
is it's twenty twenty five, and in twenty twenty five,
the site of Taylor Swift makes some people boo, the
sight of Kid Rock makes other people boo.

Speaker 5 (37:16):
And all this nobody's booon.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Nobody's booon.

Speaker 5 (37:19):
Dollar, nobody's booing dollar.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
Like you take the most Christian religious person deep in
the hills of Eastern Kentucky, they love Dollar.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
You take the gay community in New York City, they
love Dollard.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
You go to black people, they love Dollar. You go
to white people, they love Dollar. Like that's an amazing
trait she has, like like that's really and it is.
I don't know if there's anybody else in America that
has it, and that's really that's kind of beautiful.

Speaker 5 (37:47):
So I'd love to see her do it.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
If there is even a remote possibility, they should do
it soon forth too lately, I agree.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
I agree, matter of fact, do it next year, next year,
just do it.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
That's the time I think she knew to bring out snoop,
just to really really sure she can do that world.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
I don't know if anybody wouldn't do it. Is there
any musicians they wouldn't go out there with her? No,
I think anybody would anybody because they all love her,
like because she's been around for so I mean, my
grandma loved her.

Speaker 5 (38:18):
Like.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
There's a generation people that remember when she was on
what the Kaz Walker Show or whatever when she was thirteen.

Speaker 5 (38:24):
In Knoxville, Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Really and now you know she's in her seventies and
still does it. I don't mean to turn this into
a Dolly show. I'm just saying I really like Dolly.

Speaker 5 (38:33):
All Right.

Speaker 3 (38:34):

A couple more things to get to before we finish.
Billy Gillespie is leaving or is being pushed out. It
looks like at Tarleton State probably gonna be the if
you think about at the end of his coaching career.
That's just my guess. Maybe gets some with us an
assistant or somewhere or whatever. What's you gonna be your
final memory of Billy Gillespie beyond the sort of American

(39:38):
swimming pool, like beyond all that, Like what's it gonna be?

Speaker 1 (39:41):
It's funny you say that, and the first thing pops
in my head is him and Cutler running down the hallway.
I don't know if that's gonna be the memory forever.
How I remember Billy?

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Do you think you can finish you can feel like
fond of him? Like is there are there any sort
of positive feelings you can have about him at all?

Speaker 5 (39:58):
Or is it just is it just gonna be negative?
It's pretty negative.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
I'm not, like, you know, upset at him, and I
wouldn't boo if they brought him back. But that was
the end of my college career, Like I was at
college for the end of Tubby and the Billy years.
That was not a great run for someone who grew
up wanting to go to UK to watch basketball. So
got a little extra like I said, not anger, but
just disappointed in how that all went. His health and like, yeah,

(40:22):
you know we mentioned it on the show recently. You know,
he made the big donation of Dan's blue and cried
a little bit. You know, he's got he's got things
that you can cheer for, but the basketball was just
so bad and the stories around it.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
I just find him to be kind of a tragic figure,
like like he was almost given so much that he
couldn't handle it. I think there was a good person
in there, but his demons made it hard. Like I
do think he genuinely cared about his players. He wanted
this to work so much, but his personal demons I

(40:54):
think overshadowed it, and I always find that a little
bit tragic. I think he loved his players so much
that he oddly treated them poorly because he wanted them,
and that's it. I just you know, Ramel and Joe
had a big impact on how I looked at Billy
because they were like, it was almost like they were

(41:18):
looking at their kid when they were talking about him.
They were like, I love Billy. He doesn't know what
he's doing and he doesn't treat us well, but we
know he loves us. And I always kind of found
that because Remel and Joe would take up for him.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
Ramel on this show has had great things to say
about Billy Gillespie. And you know there's a story where
he bought a car from some woman. I think maybe
was in Danvil.

Speaker 5 (41:39):
He hurt.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
Yeah, he heard a woman had I want to say,
had some sort of cancer and she was selling her
car for let's say, a thousand dollars and he went
and bought it for like seven thousand. Uh huh, so
that she would like, you know, and there's a good
person in there, but he also did a lot of
not good things, even things, So I just can't even

(42:03):
be kind of a tragic figure. But I tend to
be like, I feel sorry for people, So I'm a
little bit of a softie.

Speaker 4 (42:08):
Yeah. My cousin's a JUCO coach, one of the national
chief and Billy was coaching ranger with the other team,
and they know each other a little bit from the
Juco ranks and speaks holly of him. It's just all
the stuff that happened in Lexington, it is hard to
turn off.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
I also want to say, if you get a chance,
go on kas Are today. We have a long profile
interview with Andrew Carr where he talks about the back
issues he's had, but also his part if you like
Andrew Carr or Eve if you just want to know
more about him, Tyler did a great job with that.
Uh so, uh go check it out on Kentucky Sports
Radio dot com.

Speaker 4 (42:40):
Nothing else, just for the old photos of him as
a kid. He was a gymnast. A little fun fact
from the story. Yeah, he's kind of a gymnast.

Speaker 5 (42:47):
Check that out.

Speaker 1 (42:47):
All right.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
Tomorrow we'll be back here at Kaspar ten to twelve,
and then of course the Kentucky Tennessee game.

Speaker 5 (42:53):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (42:53):
I've already gotten some tickets to give away to morrow,
so we will see you later.

Speaker 5 (42:57):
