Speaker 5 (01:30):
She she doesn't teach on Fridays Valentine tomorrow, So I
took her some roses dropped off at her school this morning.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
I thought she was a yoga teacher.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Well, she teaches yoga and art for preschool students. Got
a school.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Oh, I've always assumed she taught yoga for adults. She
teaches preschool yoga. Preschool kids can do yoga, they do
two through five.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Do they need to be that flexible at that age?

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Well, now, flex but just you know, the movement just
kind of keeps them in behavioral, keeps them calm.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
She teaches preschool yoga.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Yeah, if she.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Ever needs a substitute, teacher. I'm sure Matt would be
great for that.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
I would be terrible at it.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I I do yoga, but not not the not well
that was so what was she happy when she.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Got a rosy She was, Yeah, I got some good text.
And then we're going to Rodney tomorrow and night for
dinner Friday.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yes, Rodney, last of the big spenders. Because I'm sure
you have a gift card and it'll be free. So, uh,
all right, well that's nice.

Speaker 6 (02:26):
What about you during I'm pretty prepared already, got I
got a gift ready. You got a dinner reservation for tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Right?

Speaker 6 (02:32):
No, do a little Jeff Rubies. Uh, probably need to
find a card at some point, but I'm pretty set
looking forward to It's nice that it's on a Friday.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
About you see, I think I may go to Texas
to go to the game, So I may be.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
I may tomorrow. Yeah, it's back Alas there Saturday. Huh
they play there Saturday night. Did you know that that's
where the University of Texas is.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
So I'm back to going back to Austin for Valentine's
I don't think you got to stop that.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
I haven't been there in like a year, you're gonna
have to stop all.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
Your rekindled an old flame.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
There is no that can where Kentucky played.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
They play Saturday night in Austin's the first time is
the first time they've played Texas there in my life.
They played that regional there one time, the one where
Patrick sparks the ball bounced around the rim.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
That was I was down there.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
I was there, but I don't I can't think of
in my lifetime than.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
Playing at Texas basketball. No, no football course was just
down there, but for basketball. I don't know of any
other games.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
I played them twice ever, once we just fairly recently, and.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Them in Maui.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
I think we were supposed to play them in Austin
the COVID year and it got canceled. I think that
was I think that was our big twelve game that
year was at Texas, and I believe it got canceled
due to COVID.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Makes sense.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
They probably had a home and home they came here, they.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Just canceled the one that was that was there. Well,
hopefully we win, that'll make it a lot more fun.
But yeah, otherwise, you know, it's it's one of those
it's it's a Friday night. So I think for people,
you know, it's like the restaurants, probably all the nice
restaurants that we're gonna be hard to get into, right.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
It's well, you gotta get on early, like after or
after New Year's Eve boom. You gotta get on those
Valentine's Day reservations.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
So who thinks about that.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
I'm a big reservation Yeah, I already have New Ye's
've reservations for next year.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Yeah that's pretty impressive.

Speaker 6 (04:15):
Well, I got tired of not having them, so I
just get up in front of it.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
See, I'm the day of and if it's not there,
then it wasn't meant to be.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Like that can be tough locally. After Thanksgiving, you better
get on the New Year's reservations right then, as soon
as they What do you all like.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Going out so much to like restaurants? I mean, I
guess what are you cooking? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:35):
I mean, I guess I'm just saying you all like
having like a vent restaurants.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
Yeah, we would make the day special or the moment
special for your significant other.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Okay, well let me tell you the other thing I'm doing.
So I did two things last night that I think
are very important. By the way we're gonna make this
and ask Anything Thursday, just because again we're kind of
in between games and we didn't get to take a
lot of questions last time because of a lot of
stuff going on. So we're making it Ask Anything Thursday,
a fun nine eight twenty two eighty seven. You could
ask whatever you want, old UK questions, KSR questions or uh,

(05:06):
you know, some good news potentially coming, like starting to
hear some good vibes about this Nate a Mint guy
that was here Tuesday, So we could talk about any
of those.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
But before we do two things.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
One, last night I watched the best college basketball game
I've seen a long time, and and I wouldn't have cared.
It was Texas Tech and Arizona State. Really double overtime madness. Yeah,
absolute madness. I'm sure none of you all watched it
because you all have families and things to do. But
like last twelve seconds of the game, tie game. Guy

(05:41):
gets a steal, runs, looks like he has a wide
open layup. Dude comes out of nowhere blocks it. Everybody
falls down. You know, there's there's there's screaming. A murder
was took place, like it was they go into double overtime.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
The crowd in Lubbock is crazy. One of the best
games I've seen.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
I'm not sure if anybody was watching it but me
because it was on the CBS Sports Network, but that
was exciting.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
I wish I would have seen it. I watched Patino lowse,
then I watched Caliperri win back to back. I didn't
even know this game was going on.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
And then the second thing is I'm getting way too
in to like ship culture.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
No, I'm serious. So I'm reading this book, The Wager.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
It's about this shipwreck, you know, in the seventeen hundreds,
and it's a it's a great.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Book and it's a true story.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, you know, people like nonfiction, like you got to
read this book. It's called The Wager. Came out last year,
got a lot of awards, Like I'm not the first
person to discover. But it's about this ship and they
we told we talked about all the phrases that came
from I found another one, the phrase under the weather.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yes, when people would.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Get typhus that's a thing, right, t like typhoid typhoid fevers. Yeah,
they would get sick and the weather would hurt them.
So they'd go under the boat so that they could
be under the weather to.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Try to recover.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
That's where that came from. That's where that came from.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
But okay, so they were trying to sail from England
down so Panama Canal is not there yet, right, Yeah,
so they're trying to go under South America to get
to the like Asia.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Right.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
But apparently, and see I didn't know this. The area
under South America that's Cape Horn, I believe is the
name of it is the most deadly seas in the world.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Do you want to know why? Tell me why? See,
maybe you won't care about this as much as I do,
but I care.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
If you think about the globe, there's land that blocks
water everywhere, right, right, But if you think about the
southernmost part of the globe, it's the only part of
the globe where there's no land to break the ocean
and slow it down. So the ocean picks up speed
because there's no land, like Europe's not there, etc. So

(07:49):
apparently you get down close to Antarctica, the water's then
the way South America goes and Antarctica comes up, it
creates like a narrow path like think of like when
you're on a river or how it kind of so
then it like narrows in which makes it go even faster.
And then for reasons I don't understand, like the most
harsh weather in the world is down there anyway because

(08:10):
of winds. So all these things happened to where when
you try to go under South America, it's the deadliest
water even today. Like ships are very scared to go
there close. Ships have to do it a certain way,
they can only go some seasons and stuff like that.
So I'm reading about all this and the guy is
such a good writer. I feel like I'm on the

(08:31):
ship right, like climbing up the mast or whatever to
do the sails, and then like disease breaks out and
then there's like they fight each other, and I just
it's a great book, and I realized I would have
been terrible at it, like everything. Did you ever see
Master and Commander that movie with Russell Crow.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
That's kind of what this is. I'm now basically a shipman.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Is that why people use the Now America Canal so much?
Cut through where they don't have to go down?

Speaker 3 (09:02):
No, that's why the Panama Canal was built, was to
get ships from one side or the other without making
them go all the way under South America because A
it's farther, but B it's dangerous. I mean they say,
over the years, hundreds of ships crashed in the down there.
It's Cape Horn, they call it. It's like got some
nickname like the River of Death or something like that.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
Now, I mean, I feel like I'm invested. Do they
make it through the troubled waters?

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Well?

Speaker 3 (09:28):
I mean, if it was a safe, easy journey, I
think the book would not have been written. Like if
it was just a normal like they just say, and
I think they would have gone, that's not a very
good book if they were just saying, and then we
sailed and then we got there.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
So I'm going to assume there was danger. I haven't
finished them.

Speaker 6 (09:42):
I know why you like it because when we went
out on a boat, you took a book with you
and read on the boat. So it's like combining your
two worlds.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Apparently sixty minutes went down there and rode the water
last year like Anderson Cooper, and I haven't seen it yet.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
I'm awake. The book's finished and showed how crazy.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
I don't know if i'd wanted to and do that.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
How about Anderson Cooper like he's probably he didn't need
to be doing that.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
You know, he's a he's a pioneer.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
So do I give it? Does this give you any
incentive to want to read it?

Speaker 5 (10:08):
A little bit?

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Okay? True?

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Do you have any And of course, well, I just
bought tomorrow tomorrow and tomorrow it gets here today.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
That's fiction, though, I know.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
But I mean, I've already taken one book recommendation this week.
I just I can't get too behind. So your point,
my my sister actually got stuck at the bottom tip
of South America because the weather. They had a plane
down there and the wind was so bad it shattered
the windshield and they were down there for a long time.
She wasn't on the water, but to your winds, one
of the bad weather, she was down there for a while.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
If you read this book, you would think it's like
they Herman Melville. You know, do you know who Herman Melville?
He wrote Moby Dick. He called it Hell on Earth. That, yes, so.

Speaker 6 (10:49):
They call it the Wager because they're kind of gambling.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
That was the name of the ship. Okay, well, name
of the ship was the Wager. I think that's where
they where they got it. So anyway, if you hear
me like start going iron mate, it's because I'm I'm
I'm become a shipman. Eight nine, twenty two eighty seven
Kentucky Basketball. We're still sort of happy.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
About the win Mark Pope.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
I was thinking about this yesterday and we I did
that segment where we talked about why the fans had
embraced Mark Pope so much now that we have our team,
and you go look back when Pope got here and
how he built that roster in a month. What would
you grade the way he built the roster that we

(11:32):
have considering the time he had, et cetera.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
I mean, you got to give the guy an A.
Maybe not an a plus, but I would give him
a definitely a solid A for pulling that pieces together,
like he brought him him to fit his system and
the guys that were available he went and found it,
which appears to be like maybe the perfect guy to
fit his system how he wants to play.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
What about you, Drew, Yeah, it's hard to not give
him an a. You gotta think he didn't have many
relationships established and he played against some of these guys
and knew them. But you know, normally in recruiting you
spent a year or two trying to build this up.
He had he got the Kentucky job, just started calling
him up and what he had like five and five
days in a.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Stretch, and he got him really quick. He grew it
together real quick. Who was the first? Now, in hindsight,
I'm trying to remember who were the first people to commit?

Speaker 6 (12:17):
Well, I thought it was really cool Travis Perry when
he called him out at his press conference. That set
the tone early about bringing Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Who was Amari the first one?

Speaker 6 (12:26):
And the mont Butler was pretty quick behind him, showing
the importance.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
For who's the one? He flew to the Nashville Airport
and drove him.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
He was at your car and new car.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
And let's think about just looking back, who he didn't get.
He didn't get chas Lanier. It'd be nice to have
him for for depth, But I don't think like I mean,
if I told you it was probably gonna be Chaslanir
or Jackson Robinson, they'd been pretty close when you said
I have to take Robinson. Yeah, and then he didn't

(12:53):
get great Osibor, but great Osibor I don't.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
I've watched him a couple of time.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Time.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I don't know how great.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
I think Amari probably has been as good, if not
better than great than great Osibor.

Speaker 6 (13:08):
So there's one I watched last night. Ryan, you watched
the Villanova Saint John's game that Wuga Poplar was high
on Kentucky's list. They went kind of down to the wire.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
He ended up at Villanova.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
He had a great game last.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Okay, Uh, they tried to get the kid two kids
that went to Yukon, Liam McNeely out of high school.
You know, I was a high school player and he's
he's really good, but potentially the kid from Saint Mary's
that we wanted so much.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Mahiney. I watched Yukon play a couple of nights. He
doesn't play. He doesn't even get in.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
So like we were, we were all.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
In on him, and he doesn't even get in the game.
So it's interesting, how like in the moment of these
recruitments on transfers, you get so into wanting a guy
and I remember people tell me that's the one we
have to get, and he doesn't even play.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
For you.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
You know, I've said this, we may look back in history.
That mark Pope's best recruiting c lass. Maybe this first
one he just did, was able to do it the
way he was able to do it got him a
top ten team that maybe the most important critic class.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Momt Butler was huge.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
You know, Kobe Braya picked us over Duke and Yukon.
I mean, he could have gone anywhere and he ends
up picking here. Oh take away. I remember when he committed,
like no one said anything. We didn't know anything about
the guy. And he's been our he's our leading score.

Speaker 6 (14:23):
Yeah, and I liked a lot of stuff was Pope.
He had played against them. Brandon Garrison's career high before
playing Tennessee the other night was against Pope and BYU.
He had been recruiting Kerk Cries a year after year.
Lamont Butler he saw all the time. So a lot
of it was he got his butt led by some
of these guys and went.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
This year because he'll probably go get four or five
guys in the portal this year. How he decides to
get to be interesting. Do we just go get the
guys we played?

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Like?

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Can we go get that guy from Clemson? I feel
like that dude, That dude just killed us.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
Josh Hubbard Misssippi State, come on over.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Oh dude, I love Josh Hubbard. I mean he's been
he's destroyed us every time. If I'm nine twenty two
eighty seven, is ask anything Thursday?

Speaker 4 (15:04):
You got?

Speaker 3 (15:05):
You got a commodore, Matt Jones. That's the leader of
the entire group on the Captain Ryan Lemon and Navy
midshipman Uh, Drew Franklin. We'll take a break and be
right back. It's KISR.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
This is Gordon Lightfoot right.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Wreck of the EDMUNDS Fitzgerald. Yeah, this is his only
song I know besides Sunday. This is a true story also,
and is it?

Speaker 4 (15:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (15:36):
You uh, the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. It's a
true story.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Oh well, how about that. That's good to know.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
By the way, you made a good point during the
break to me YouTube TV. I don't know how many
of you have YouTube TV.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
I have it. You have it? Oh, I love it,
and you have I had right. Yes. Uh.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
The CBS is off the air starting tomorrow. They're like
in contract negotiations, so you know, I'm okay with that
now whatever. But if by March. They don't have it.
That's the end to me.

Speaker 5 (16:02):
Oh my, gotta work something out before then.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
Yeah, gotta get it worked out. Because that game last
night was on the CBS Sports netw you. I don't
care YouTube TV.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
Get it fixed.

Speaker 6 (16:13):
I don't watch much cable TV at all, but CBS
is my channel. It's a y mt, isn't that CBS.
I watched that.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Movie WS on CBS. Mors.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
How about going to hear the trumpets?

Speaker 3 (16:25):
You're the only reason I know Jane poll is still alive?
Is is you alright? Some ask anything questions? Already every
time I say we're gonna do this, this one guy
asked the exact same question. So we'll just go for it.
Can you ask Ryan what happened with Mickey Debasis at Kentucky?

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Now? Remember, be careful.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
I we've all heard stories.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
I want you to say it in a way that
will not get a suit.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Let's just say you personally, I absolve all responsibil I
don't even know the story.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Yeah, I'll just say there's allegedly ill to be careful.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I don't That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
Allegedly she may have done some things that were not
in accordance with what the UK women's head coach should
be doing.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
Well, that's very vague. Yeah, I'll put it like this.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I used to live over at Grand Reserve off Tates
Creek and man War. Yeah, there was a Ramsey's in
that shopping site that was for many years. When Kentucky
women won a big game, the party was at rams
I don't know why they went there, but they did

(17:38):
and it was quite a scene. It's a different time
in the UK women's basketball era, I'll just say, just
a different time. Different, different time, Okay, and I think
the old I don't think Mickey Demos did anything like bad,
but maybe some stuff happened in those situations that led

(18:03):
to dismissals, and then there may be friendships, you know.
But that's all I'm gonna say. Yeah, I feel like
that's enough. It is one of those legends that people
always wonder about, and it's it's like with a Billy Gillespie,
like you don't know what's real and what's not, and

(18:24):
that's what makes it hard.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
You know her, but she won here. I mean she
was a good coach here.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Yeah, she turned our program around and got them while
they were competitive. But you know, she went and said
she was tired of coaching, you want to step away
from coaching.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
What does she do now?

Speaker 5 (18:36):
Well, I think she's probably still in coaching. She went
right back to coaching, like a year later she said
she wanted to step away and tired of coaching.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Well, I mean she did a great job here and
I actually never heard that she was anything but a
good like a good person.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
I think she's really well liked by everybody.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
UK.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah, one person writes, Matt, is this the expression where
around the horn comes from?

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Correct? It is? That's how you go around the horn.
You're going around cape horn. See.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
I don't think we realized how much stuff we say
comes from these things.

Speaker 6 (19:09):
You've already given us like seven or eight just from
your whole vocabulary.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
And that's just from this one book Trent Noah.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Jacob Polachek at KSR plus did a story that Trent
Noah's Harlan County High School has not moved anything from
his locker.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
It is still the way he left it.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
And if you go on KSR plus you can see
the picture he has two He has two shoes which
look to be mismatched to one shoe from two different payirs.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
He's got like his jersey, some T shirts.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
It's like messy and Harlan High School County has decided
to leave it the way he left it as a
tribute to what he did for the program. I think
that's actually amazingly cool and the picture to me is iconic.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Yeah, it's really cool.

Speaker 6 (20:01):
It's got some shoes, little ankle brace, some wadded up shirts.
I love that they did it, but I'm wondering if
they're hitting that with some fabriz every so often, because
I wonder how that will smell over. Yeah, I mean,
it looks like you just got to work out in
took off his wet T shirt and threw it down.
But it's the Gesture's awesome, very neat. Hope it's there forever.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Great story from Jacob and and by the way, this
gives me a good chance to say it's on KSR plus,
So every time we put one of those stories, people
will go, oh, Matt, how's it.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
Like. First of all, I don't run that anymore. It's
not my decision but to take up for them.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
The economics of the internet have changed substantially in the
last three years. Like when I ran the Internet, run.
But when I ran Kentucky Sports Radio, you could put
up free stories and Google Ads paid a lot, and
you could keep a website going free. Completely has changed
thanks to AI and different things. Those Google ads don't

(20:54):
pay what they once did, which is why you're seeing
these major news sources all go to subscription. So I've
been committed to keeping and pushing on three to keep
most of KSR free and it still is. But if
you're wondering why those articles exist, you know, don't blame me.
Blame the economy, because that's why you see free sits
all going away. Because you think about how many blogs

(21:15):
existed fifteen years ago. You can't make the money anymore,
which is why but we still keep ninety plus percent of.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
Our stuff free. But that's why that article's up there.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
I want to go back to the trench locker. I
love this. I love this story so much, and you
can probably understand what I'm about to say. You know,
a lot of these kids that grow up in Harlem, Man,
it's a tough life. You know, they don't have a
lot of revenue in a way to kind of pull
themselves out of this life. And there's a guy right
there they walk the hallway with, they sit in a
classroom with that has done it. It means a lot

(21:45):
to not just that community, but those kids that go
to that school and see his locker every day.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
I genuinely believe that there is no county in the
in certainly in Kentucky. Maybe in the United States, but
I don't know the whole United States, but there is
no county in Kentucky that has changed more than Harlan
County in.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
The last fifty years.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Fifty years ago, Harlan County was an economic monster due
to coal Lanch where Freddy's comes from.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Harlan, Cumberland.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
There there was a time like in nineteen twenty where
as many people lived in Harlan as they did in Lexington,
and then the town has the county has had.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
To go through so many struggles.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
No place in America has seen the loss of coal
heard it more than Harlan. And to have that kid
come from there, I just think it is so not
It's just such a great story for this state because
if you've never been to Harlan, we go there with
the Polk Salad Festival.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
It's wonderful people.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
But have had a very difficult time you know that
scene in Netflix in the Wrestler Show is during that
and they tell that story for that kid to come
from that county and have success. I just can't think
of anything more Kentucky basketball than that. I really can't.
And that's what I love. We'll take a break. Take
your questions right for this KSR.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
TJ.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay now.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's
Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Welcome back, Tekey Sports Radio A five nine, two, eight
oh twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Couple of things.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
UK baseball season starts tomorrow, gets David Lipscomb. David Lipscomb,
Yeah you, Uh, Kentucky's picked fifteenth out of sixteen teams
in the UH. In the SEC, they did what no
respect with the two seed New World Series last year
picked fifteenth out of sixteenth.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
Think it's about what they were predicted last year. Look
what happened they had.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
We'll say this though, I maybe saw uh Nick Minjion
back in uh October November. I think I saw him
at Chipotle said, hey, man had an awesome time following
you missed.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
I'm sorry, I was in Europe during the World Series. Hey,
you missed it. Looking forward to We're gonna go back
again this year, right, he goes a little bit of
a rebuilding. Yeah, so it was so I think maybe
gonna be drough a little bit of a rebuilding.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
That's all right, maybe though surprises again. I had to
unfortunately completely overhaul the roster. But I'm looking forward to it.
Their their opening day over here is Tuesday. I'll be
at that one. Who they played Tuesday?

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Warhead? Okay? Good?

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Might be might be going with little Freddy Magret.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
They've only got Freddy bought season take Yeah, big baseball guy.

Speaker 5 (24:20):
They've only got two guys back too regularly.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
I mean, they basically loaded up for a huge run
last year, and I think they're kind of like in
year one of two, trying to.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Do that again. So we'll see what happens.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
I also wanted to read you can I give you
Alabama's basketball schedule for the rest of the year to
give you a sense of the SEC. Here's Alabama's schedule
for the rest of the year. Auburn ranked one, at
Missouri ranked twenty one, Kentucky fifteen, Mississippi State twenty two,
at Tennessee five, Florida three at Auburn one. My goodness,

(24:51):
they play seven straight games to finish the season, all
of which are against house.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
That's amazing. I didn't realize that Alabama team we all
think is one of the best teams of the country.
That's a hell of a goatlet for any team to go.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Through seven ranked teams in seven games, that's got to be.
If that's not a record, I'd like to know what is.

Speaker 6 (25:07):
I mean, they could go four and three and be
proud of that.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
They could be really good and go four and three
in those games. All right, who's up first?

Speaker 2 (25:14):
We'll start with at them, Adam, go ahead at them.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Hey, guys, got a scenario for you on Ask anything.
So the scenario is each of you has a million
dollars with the stipulation you have to bet at the day. Okay,
Kentucky is fully healthy minus Crisa, where does the season
end in the NCAA Tournament.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
Million dollar bet.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
We're gonna take a fully healthy Kentucky team minus Crisa.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
Where do we say they go? I appreciate the call.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
If I had to do that, and let's say I
had to get the round of the NCAA tournament, right,
not what I hope happens, but what actually would happen
with a million dollars on the line. I'd have to
see the odds, but I would say Sweet sixteen if
I if that was if that was the bet, I

(26:02):
was gonna make Sweet sixteen.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
With a fully healthy roster, that's where I would go.
What about you?

Speaker 5 (26:09):
Yeah, I'm saying I don't know if they win the
Sweet sixteen, but to get to that.

Speaker 4 (26:12):
Game, well, that's what I mean. That's where we would love.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
Yeah, I think that's that's the smart money. That's where
I would go.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Also, I think if you tell me either Robinson or
Butler is banged up and I'm going in like a
little not one hundred percent, then I might go round two.
But I think if you tell me they're all healthy
minus Crisa, I'm gonna go Sweet sixteen.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
Yeah, I want to be different, just for the conversation.
But that's what I was thinking too. Right now, they're
a three seed. You'd run into a good team in
the Sweet sixteen. You know, the Kentucky fan of me,
he's like, hey, yeah, let's win that one. But if
I have a million on the line, that's a different conversation,
so I'm gonna say sweet sixteen.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Also, I also think it's gonna be interesting with the
SEC Tournament. I was looking at the standings. I think
there's a very good chance that unless something crazy happens,
we're either gonna be the seven, the eight, if things
didn't go well, the nine, or the ten. We're gonna
end up having to play Auburn or Alabama in the
quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. Could be either one of them,
depending on how their games against each other go. So

(27:10):
that Friday at the SEC Tournament, which by the way,
the game will either be at one or seven, that's
gonna be a game for Kentucky. I mean, it's gonna
be all of our crowd. I mean that's like a
national championship level game. In the quarter finals of the
SEC Tournament, you either will see probably Auburn or Alabama
against maybe Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
Going into the season my head, in my head, I
want to see him get to the weekend of the
SEC Tournament. Now we see how tough the SEC is,
I kind of gotta tweak that a little bit.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
I think if we beat in Arkansas, we could get
up to like a six or a five, at which
point then we could avoid those teams until the semifinals.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
If you just look at the standings, I think that's
gonna be hard to do unless we go on a
huge run here at the end.

Speaker 6 (27:50):
Yeah, I was talking with a friend last night. We
just gotta change our brains about the SEC tournament. We
were so spoiled.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
We had that.

Speaker 6 (27:56):
Noon game on Friday for many years, but now Wednesday
could have like three tournament teams in it. It's just
a different beast.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
It's a very different beast. Yes, you guys already gone.
You just got here. Well, you can't talk to me.
I'm on the air. How could you talk to me
if I was on the air. It's all right, good
to see.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
You call in right now.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
Yeah, How did they think they were going to talk
to me if I was on the air.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
What did that one dude do that just walked in
and went in that corner over there, Then let's just
go over there.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
And just pee.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
And I don't know what he did, just walked in
the farthest corner of the restaurant and then turned right
back around unless.

Speaker 6 (28:30):
Really no reason to go over there. What's going on?

Speaker 4 (28:33):
How did he think we were all going to talk.
He knows we're on the air. Anyone who would want
to come see me here would know we were on.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
The air because we have Frio here to play security.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
All Right, who's up next, Tyler? Tyler? Go ahead, Tyler?

Speaker 5 (28:45):
Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 7 (28:46):
Matt?

Speaker 8 (28:47):
First time? Long time?

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Who what's up?

Speaker 2 (28:51):
I was actually going to touch on that Texas Tech
Arizona State game.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
I actually stayed up last night as well and finished that.

Speaker 8 (28:58):
I was kind of curious. Do you think maybe that
pope would be interested in that topic?

Speaker 7 (29:03):
Kid?

Speaker 8 (29:04):
I mean, we should be.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
JT Topping is great. I think they looked at him
last year. I don't know how far.

Speaker 6 (29:11):
Is that is that Jacob's No, I don't think there's
a connection.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
I don't think j he had forty last night, and
he's a junior. I think so he's got like another year.
That would be my And again I don't watch all
the teams, but my can we go steal him? Would
be JT Toping. Now, the thing is Texas Tech has
some alum that's spending a ton of money on football
and basketball, so they're able to kind of punch above
their weight getting players.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
But I watch that kid. I appreciate the call.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
He's my random team star in forty last night JT Top.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
Knowing what we know, the roster probably don't look like
what do they need to get?

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Okay, so that's a great question. Let's look at the
roster next year. Let's assume we get Away and Garrison back.
I hope we get Kerr back.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
But let's assume Oway and Garrison come back. Let's assume
we have Noah Perry back, CA probably Chandler. Okay, then
we got the note the four freshmen, so now we're nine.
I think you gotta go get three or four guys.
One things you have to do is I think you
have to get a point guard. We're gonna have Jasper Johnson,
but you need another option. Would you agree with that?

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Can just trust the freshman not to go get a
big yes of some sort? And then I think this
is the thing this team needs the most next year,
a big time wing score.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
We got to go get a Jackson Robinson. I think
those are the.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Three things if I'm Pope, assuming the roster that we're
talking about Walby here. Now some of these guys could leave,
you never know. But assuming the roster we have now,
I think you need a point guard, a big time
wing scorer, and a big man of some sort.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
I mentioned this to day You're out, but Danny Wolf
at Michigan, this center, he's perfect for Pope. I'm a
little worried though the new draft boards have him up
he's first round.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
Now.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
I don't know that he'll be available, but he was
high on my wish list earlier in the season because
he just looks like a guy that would fit right
in with the Pope system. He's seven foot, can hit threes,
can pass. He's high at my wish Now.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
If Kurt Crisa comes back, Kirk Crisa might be that
point guard right because Jasper Johnson's gonna play point guard
and I just think you need another option there to
give you some grace in case his learning curve is
a little bit.

Speaker 6 (31:16):
With Pope's a little bit of a lack of defense.
I hope they find more of a Butler type that
can guard on the perimeter.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Oh way back is huge if yes, but you need
a shooter right like you need the Kobe Bray. You
need to go find somebody that's like that. And the
reality is I mean he's gonna have to look at
like Colin Chandler and say, do I think this guy
can become a player?

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Right?

Speaker 3 (31:37):
He does, I believe believe that. But he needs to
next year because they're actually gonna need him.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
I think I think Travis and Trantle fill in the
role players again, but I.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
Think you a little step up. I mean maybe Trent
Noah Is is Kobe Bray. I mean that maybe that's
who it ends up being.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
Yeah, I think they're counting on a big jump from him. Also,
I just wonder, you know, we've heard former Kentucky players
talk about how jealous they are a pope system. I
wonder with all these other kids in college that have
eligibilia left, if they're looking at KENTUCKI You're like, Wow,
that looks like a lot of fun, and maybe it
will be what destination with a lot of people want
to go to.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
I've said this year, I thought we needed one star.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
I still look at next year and be like, we
need one college star. Hopefully Jasper Malachi. You know, Kayen
Lewis become, but we need one college star.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
Do you agree with that? Yeah? A transfer Chaslyn, New York,
Kipe Jackson, Robbinson.

Speaker 5 (32:29):
Somebody that can go get us twenty on a night
when we need to.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
Yeah, Clark's Pumping Shop has a new Clark's Reward app.
Download the app and get discounts on gas, stay up
to date on specials and more. All good mornings start
at Clark's Pumping Shop. They have a cup of coffee.
You love all the food they have there too, don't you.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
Yeah, they had a drive through. You can drive through
it looks like you do McDonald's.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
They had to the expensive coffee shops and stopping Clark's
Pumping Shop. And for fast food madness, avoid it with pizza.
They got Crispy Crunchy Chicken, Cajun Deli sandwiches and more.
Go to Clark's Pumping Shop, Return, Refresh, Refuel. We will
return here in just a minute at KS Bars Kentucky
Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (33:06):
Welcome back.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live text machine seven
seven to two seven seven four five two five four
one person Rights, Matt, can you tell me what the
schedule will be like at the SEC tournament for KSR Well,
depending on what.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
The schedule is for for UK.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
It looks almost certain that UK will play on Thursday,
I will make a game time decision on whether or
not I think we're definitely gonna win if we If
I don't think we're definitely gonna win, if I think
it's closed, then we'll do our big show on Thursday
and then just do a regular show Friday. If I
think we're gonna win, then we'll wait and do it Friday. Also,

(33:42):
if the game's at one o'clock, we won't even have
a full show because we'll get cut off for the
official pregame, so we'll only have like an hour and
a half. So we kind of have to wait and
see what the schedule is. But chances are we'll probably
do our big show on Thursday, uh, and then on
Friday do a.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
Smaller show somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
That's just my initial thinking because I don't want to
wait do our big show Friday. We lose Thursday, and
then everybody's like, well, why did we come here to
stand and look at you if we're already out of
the tournament.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
So I guess I gotta ask this, what if they
end up playing on Wednesday?

Speaker 3 (34:18):
I mean we could end up playing on Wednesday. Yeah,
I mean, we're definitely gonna play on Thursday. Like, I mean,
unless something crazy happens, Kentucky fans got to know this.
We're playing Thursday, and let you know, we'd have to
come in fourth, and we're not gonna pass Auburn and Alabama,
and we're probably not gonna pass Florida. So really our
only chance is to get to fourth. So we're probably

(34:41):
playing Thursday, and then you know, there's a chance we
could play Friday if we drop their Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
If we drop to ninth, we're playing Wednesday, and that's
noon on Wednday. Yeah, I mean, if we're in ninth
place in the end. Right now, we're in eighth.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
If we finished ninth, we're playing one o'clock on Wednesday,
which is crazy. They've never even been a one o'clock
game on Wednesday, and we might be in the first.

Speaker 6 (35:02):
So I guess we'd have to go Tuesday night.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
We're also if people are out there, we would like
to find a place on the way to do a show.
Assuming we don't play Wednesday, we'll do it Wednesday. So
if you'd like to hostess and just like some random
place down there along the interstate, we do it Wednesday

(35:25):
on the way to.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Yeah, we did what five broke sisters that one day
off the interstate, we did one in Franklin.

Speaker 6 (35:32):
Well, sure it was the football stadium, the football stadium,
that's right.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Yes, one person, right, Matt.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
I've only been listening for a year, so this may
be a stupid question, That's what I ask anything.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Sure there are question who is Larry that you refer to?

Speaker 3 (35:46):
I could see how you might say, so Larry is
my stepdad, but I you know, I consider him my
dad and he's the most wonderful person I know, and
you all all know him as well.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
But I do refer to him as Larry.

Speaker 6 (36:00):
Like some people might not realize that he's.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
Eighty seven years old.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
He goes on a stand up base and no more
content happy person on the planet.

Speaker 5 (36:12):
What a great great man. We should all aspire to
be more like Larry Blondelle.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
Arry Blondell, think about this. Don't think he's ever had
a drink of alcohol, never smoked a cigarette. I've never
heard he music cuss word in my entire life.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
He's a saint. I think about that for him. How
many people you think that applies to? Not many?

Speaker 6 (36:32):
N this morning.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
He did it on the drive here, So I don't
think that also good friends with Worldwide West. Yes, world
find West and here big buddy. So one person rides Matt.
I was looking at the NCAA tournament sites. I would
like to hear each of you say what your thought
would be if Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
Got a sign to these towns.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
So Lexington has a side they do and we can't
play there, So that gives us seven possibilities. Now, because
we're not one of the top seeds, we could go
to any of these. We literally could go to any
of these. So give me a quick thought on each
of these towns. Let's start with you, Shannon, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
I think we've been there before, have we not.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
We went to Greensboro. We were in Greensboro.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Yeah, Raleigh's okay, I'll be all right with that.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
It's unlikely to me we get to Raleigh because I
think Duke will be there, so I'd say Raleigh would
be a surprise. But I lived in Raleigh. I would
like that, what about you.

Speaker 5 (37:27):
Rally's kind of a cool little town now, especially with
the hockey team, the Durham Bulls right next door, so
it's kind of a cool little.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Caroline Hurricanes play at home the night before the turn.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
So I actually would love to do that. But go ahead.

Speaker 6 (37:39):
I was gonna be a no. You just talked me
into that. I want to see some live hockey, So
go Raleigh.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Milwaukee, Shannon, No, we have been there. Nothing in Milwaukee
interest me, so.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
I actually really enjoyed more. I don't want to go
be a little cold. But what do you think about Milwaukee?

Speaker 5 (37:52):
Yeah, the weather in March scares me a little bit
up tript in Milwaukee.

Speaker 6 (37:56):
Milwaukee might be number one on my list. I made
my first Milwaukee trip a year or two ago and
was surprised by how much fun I had.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
I've always had fun in Milwaukee every time, beer and
cheese was it until Like Denver, Shannon, We've been there
many times.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
You always have quite a run when we go there.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
I have a lot of fun in Denver. Let's run
it back. I think that might be my top choice
out of these.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
I love Denver. The problem is we have to drive
there and it's a long drive. But that's okay. I
would I love Denver. Denver is cool town.

Speaker 5 (38:23):
When need to go back to the witch House and
you know we broke the curts.

Speaker 6 (38:27):
I would happily go to Denver. I don't care about
the drive. I love Denver, got a brother in law there.
Always had a good time in Denver.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Closest one Cleveland. Would you like to spend four days
in Cleveland?

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Shin, I've never been to Cleveland. That would be another
top choice of mine.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
Cleveland stinks.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
The only thing that would be good about Cleveland is
that it's close. But otherwise it's stinks. You go to
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and then it's
just like I'd go visit, But we weren't there when
we went in twenty fifteen. We end up going to
the Final four after we won in Cleveland.

Speaker 5 (38:55):
That's the famous story where you're doing your post game show.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
And actually just danced on the table.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
We knocked the table over and all of our equipment
and drinks.

Speaker 6 (39:02):
That casino there is good to me, got it every
every night we were there, I was winning. Let's go
back to Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
Wichita, Kansas hit.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
The worst. If we go to Wichita. You guys go,
I'm staying home.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
No, you're going.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
We have to.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
It's part of the contract. Wichita.

Speaker 5 (39:18):
Yeah, the bottom of the eighth. This is number eight
on my book for sure.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
No even though they told us it's the best Sunday
in America or whatever. What would they say we're the
best town on Sundays? That whatever is no thank you
on Kansas. I love things like Wichita, like it's random.
We'd have to make our fun. We'd find a way
to do it. I'm pro Wichita. Seattle, that's the one
we don't.

Speaker 5 (39:39):
Want to know, that's all gonna that's the one.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Not driving back out there again? Aren't we picking up
the wet sage from the air.

Speaker 4 (39:45):
We we won't drive.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
They not have to talk I hard into flying us
out there, and it's not a short flight and we've
just been there, so I kind of hope we don't
get Seattle, you know.

Speaker 6 (39:54):
Dead last for me, no thank you.

Speaker 5 (39:55):
That's probably why we're going to end up there, because
we were just there.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
And then finally evidence Rhode Island.

Speaker 5 (40:01):
I've never been, never been.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
I don't have strong thoughts one way or another about Providence.
Never been there before.

Speaker 6 (40:07):
We'd have fun. I like the others a lot more.
But it's high above Seattle.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
I think it would be like one of our trips
like Des Moines, where we don't know anything about the
city and we end up just kind of having fun
because what else is there to do there?

Speaker 4 (40:19):
We don't know anything about this place, Hopkins.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
I kind of feel like that would be oddly a
lot of fun, just like we had in Des Moines
that one year. So I kind of drove looking at it.
I was looking at the breakdown. The one I think
is most likely is Denver. If you're just looking at
where we are, I think Denver is probably the one
that's most likely.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
Who's up next to Bruce? Bruce? Go ahead, Bruce.

Speaker 8 (40:43):
Hey, guys, I appreciate you taking my call. I am
originally from Lesington, but spent twenty years in the Army
and have settled in LA. That's not los Age, that's
Lower Alabama. And man, I greatly appreciate the show. It
keeps me up with the cats. Got a couple of
things going to just mention. I love Mountain Mamba for Trent,

(41:03):
but I don't call him Trent, call him Trench with
a H because man, he is not afraid to get
in there and go for the rebounds.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
That's true.

Speaker 8 (41:11):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
So I like that he does get in the trenches
and and and fight. Uh. I saw Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Brandon has a Mountain Mamba T shirt coming out this weekend.
That was what they needed to do, and they made
it happen.

Speaker 6 (41:26):
Everybody jumping on board the Kentucky basketball official accounts been
calling him that Tom Leech. It's it's his name, no
changing it now.

Speaker 4 (41:33):
Yeah, I think that's his name. I hope he I
hope he enjoys it, because that's what it's gonna be
the entire year.

Speaker 6 (41:37):
I still have your sweet Mountain Angel Baby T shirt though,
that I'm gonna get to you.

Speaker 3 (41:40):
Not calling a grown man sweet Mountain Angel. Not going
to do it. It's not it's not acceptable.

Speaker 6 (41:46):
It's in my car. I'll get it during the brig.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
I mean, I think you know, people that are his
mother's age, they can call him sweet Mountain Angel baby,
and really they have to be women and if then
they can do it.

Speaker 5 (41:57):
But men, uh nor Mountain Mamba. That's got that manly
tone to it. He's the Mountain Mamba.

Speaker 4 (42:03):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
Eight five nine, twenty two eighty seven. We are here
at ks Bar. One person writes, Matt, you guys would
have a blast in Providence. There's a good craft bruise
brewery scene. Okay, there we go. What's not gonna do
for me anyway. Who Craft, I'm with you, Shannon, craft
Beer is the.

Speaker 6 (42:23):
Most looking at craft beer here in Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (42:25):
Country Boy's good.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
After that, it's like it all tastes like, well, I
don't want to tell you what I think it tastes like.

Speaker 4 (42:30):
We'll take a break.
