This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now
here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Welcome everyone.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday, June the third.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I'm Matt Jones here.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
It is a lovely day, and you give us John
the Clark's Puppet Shop fold line eight five nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto glass
text machine is seven seven two seven seventy four five
two five four.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
And this dish sponsored by the t J Smith loves
You called t J.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
I'll make them a Normally, this is where I would
say there are four people here on the show, but Shannon,
we are all kind of in different places, And just
a minute ago before you started, you said Ryan and
Drew are not set up?
Speaker 3 (01:13):
What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
That means they're in a studio and they don't know
how to set up a studio. And you know, normally
when we're at Ksbar, they know how to set up
that com rex piece of equipment that we do the
remotes on, but they don't know how to set up
an actual board in a studio they're in.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Lection didn't they go there and do it if they
don't know how to set it up?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
That's a good A good question. I think it's a
valid question. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
See, this is Shannon, what we have to deal with
on this show. I just want to be clear, Like,
this is one thing I appreciate about you. You think
about the logistics. I think that's a thing about you
that I have always really admired, is that you understand
and think about logistics.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
I love those guys, But they don't ever think about
the logistics. So they came into the studio they know
Billy's on.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Vacation this week.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Yeah, so Billy's on vacation and he's the one that
always sets it up.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
They didn't think about that.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I hear some heavy breathing on one of the lines.
Are you guys there now?
Speaker 5 (02:10):
We've been here the whole time, We've been ready. We
heard you guys.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
This is I feel attacked.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
You were not ready.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
We were ready.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
I heard the show.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
On you. No, it's not.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
I don't know anybody in apology. We were trying to
get set up. We were on the air and I
was like, go to the access to and nobody was there.
Gus was in here.
Speaker 6 (02:31):
You could ask Gus, we don't need access to it's either.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
That's what you're on.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
One is I'm not taking We got connected during the opening.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Jingle, connected them when I told Matt you weren't okay.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
So to be fair, you weren't ready when the show started.
You were ready during the jingle.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
What we've learned is what Billy means of this company,
because no one in this building knows how to run
the board low key.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
How important Billy is to what we know.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
It's Gus who had to save it. Gus save this
whole show today.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Can I just say something, Shannon. They're just now learning
that the person that connects them every time might be
on vacation, Shannon. That might have been something they should
have considered when they came in today.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Who's to blame?
Speaker 7 (03:13):
It's not me?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Sorry, it's not my fault.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
My fault? Is it is it?
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Is it Shannon's fault? Or is it is it Ryan's fault?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
He probably could have called me a little earlier.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
Okay, Wow, we didn't know.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Why it's called to the principal's office.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
You probably could have called him just a little bit earlier.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Time there was a button. Guess there's a button in there?
Still not did you hear gas?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Shannon? Did you hear gas?
Speaker 5 (04:00):
We don't know what we're doing. We never had to
do this before.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
You co hosted the pre show with me yesterday.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
That's why we brought in the comrax here just for
this reason. Good planning on me Andrew's part.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
It's all Billy.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Who'll suggested? Was that, by the way, bringing the comrex
as a backup? Thank you?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
There we go, all right, we'll stop here. We'll stop here.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
That word has been laid down by Gus whose fault
it was one point for Ryan Lemmon?
Speaker 3 (04:27):
What negative one point two twenty two eighty seven?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
A vision auto glass text machine is seven seven two
seven seven four five two, five four. Even with that
rough start, I'm not gonna let it get me down today,
Ryan Lemon, because I had an enjoyable night thanks to
something that I never thought I would ever say.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Want to think the Murray State baseball team for an
awesome evening. So yesterday, I think because I was a
little bummed that Kentucky had blown their game, I just
decided I'm gonna.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Be all in on Murray State.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Yeah, pulled.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I pulled out my Murray State jaw one shoes. Yeah
her jaw yes jaw one shoes.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
You know what I did, Drew. I walked thirteen miles yesterday.
Thirteen miles. Think about that, thirteen miles because just I
was walking around and had stuff to do, and I thought,
if I'm gonna do all this stuff, I'll do it
via walking around thirteen miles in my jaw one shoes.
Came home, watched Murray State. They did get up twelve
(05:36):
to three with three in it's left, and then in
the eighth inning it was twelve to eleven, and I
thought I was looking at the Kentucky thing again, but
they hung on and won. And I have to say
to you, not just because of Murray State. Although Murray
State's going to get the credit for it today, I
think I'm kind of in Ryan on college baseball, at
(05:57):
least the college baseball tournament. The college baseball tournament to
me is like perfect excitement. You have powerhouse teams, but
they can lose to random programs. It's exciting. It's double elimination,
so it feels like a fluke doesn't get you out.
(06:18):
The crowds are into it, are great stories by the
time you get to the end of the four days
of tournament. Basically they're pitching dudes who haven't even played
all year, most of whom look scared to death.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
At the end of the games.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
I love it, Ryan and Murray State last night culminated
what was probably the most college baseball I've ever watched
in a four day period, and them winning and getting
to go to the Super Regionals. They now play Duke,
a team we all can collectively hate. I had a
wonderful time watching it last night.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Yeah, we should be all in on in Murray State.
And you're right, they're just good enough. They can hit
a big home run, get a big hit. Ye, there's
still airs, there's still wild pitches. There's still crazy pickoff
attempts and stuff that happened. But it's the crowd, you said, Man,
the crowds won't make these these college games what they are.
So you know, I regally committed to be a Murray
State racer, so I feel like I'm part of Murray State.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Oh well, Shannon tell second. I mean, he doesn't get
to act like he plays blame this.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
They they are the reason I'm into this And in
that game last night was a perfect example. In any
other form of sports, Drew, when it's twelve to three
going in the seventh inning, you just turn on and
move on with your life. But in college baseball you
can't because at the end of the series, they're pitching
a guy who probably pitched at rock Castle County last year, right,
(07:44):
and he gets in there and anything can happen. They
can score eight runs in a heartbeat. The old miss
guys all look like they just came from the Sigma
New House, and they're they're they're sad, they're crying at
the end of the game. It's it's just it was
just great emotion. My jaw one Murray State shoes felt
(08:06):
happiness after it was over.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
And now through.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
I think we need to accomplish something today and I
want to see if our audience can do it. I
would like to get the Murray State coach on the
show today, would I think it would be That would
be a cool thing to do, Drew, Do you think
we can do that?
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah, I'm sure they're just traveling back today, probably by bus,
probably just sitting there.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
They're probably on a bus.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
They're probably in like Jackson, Tennessee right now, right, wouldn't
that be where they are?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:37):
I would think he would do have plenty of time
to call in. In fact, I'll expect we can get
this done.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Okay, So this, Shannon, is what we want to do.
If you and I don't mean you, Shannon, if anyone
can get the Murray State baseball coach.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
First of all, what's his name? Ryan? You almost committed there.
What's his name?
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Well, Johnny Reagan was the coach when I was there.
He's long long.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
I don't want to talk to Johnny Reagan. Do you
know what? Do you know what the current coach's name is?
I do not.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
I'm looking it up.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
The internet tells me Dan Skirka.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Yes, Dan Skirker, that's right, because he yes, Okay, he
had that little kid running around the field yesterday.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
His kid, he had a Skirka jersey on Dan Skirka.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
If anyone out there, and I know someone listening, I
can find a way to have this happen.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
You can get it.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
I can get him.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
Roan's already working the phones over here.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
I will forgive you for being forty five minutes late
to the show today. If you can get Dan skirk
How can you get Dan Skirker.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
I know two guys that do like the Murray State
play by play in the podcast of course, Merry State.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Sports YEP Encyclopedia Connections.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
I will okay, the compliment I gave you about always
being ready, Ryan's compliment. He knows everybody knows the guy
that does the Murray State play by way.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
You know the guy does the baseball.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Jeff Bidwell, former PADUCA sports anchor. And then Dave Wine
is a former conduckt of Wesley, Wesley Murray State player
who's now in like their administrative offices. I can get
I can get one of those guys track him down.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
All right, look at this guys, and that's a good
way for him to win me back. That's right.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Yes, he can win me back at ten minutes. He
can always suck me back in if Ryan. If Ryan
can't do it, hopefully someone from the audience can.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Drew.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
I know you watched a ton of this this weekend.
Are you with me on the how? The college baseball how?
It's kind of really exciting this time of year.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
Yeah, and I'm I'm like you, I'm all in on
the Racers last night. You know, I'll be honest, I
don't know the roster from top to bottom. I'm still
learning as a new Racers fan. But their cleanup batter
comes up and they say from Madisonville, North Hopkins Jonathan Hogarth.
So I didn't even know I have a fellow Maroon
on the team. So that just makes me like them
even more. Will be following them at the next stage.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Yeah, I mean, when you get to the NCAA tournament
in basketball, yes, you get like a Jack Gulky and
those kind of guys, and they're interesting stories.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
I know it was against us, you do get that,
but there are not like.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
A ton of those guys. Part of the reason we
remember their names is because you might have won every
two or three years, but Shannon, you played college baseball, right,
I mean it's clear. First of all, their rosters seem
to never end, and they have they have forty five pitchers,
and they'll come in because of the format of that series,
(11:33):
they'll come in having only pitched like three games all season,
and then they'll begin in the eighth inning in the
most important game of the year, and you can literally.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
See them trembling.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Yeah, and then you get this moment where they take
a guy who's going to be drafted in the major
league draft, like in two weeks, and they strike them out.
Murray State had a pitcher where the where the announcer
literally was like like he basically said he can't throw anything,
but he's hoping right now, That's basically what he said. Drew,
(12:08):
you saw it. He was like, basically like he can't
but he's hoping. And then he got him out and
I was rooting for that kid so much. Shannon, I
think it's like probably what people older than us say
college sports used to be.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Like, I feel like you see it.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Right, Yeah, You've gotten some really cool moments in the
tournament so far, and you're right, you know, you got
to go deep into your bullpen and you got guys
that haven't thrown much all season, and all of a
sudden now they're put into a pressure packed point of
the game where they've got to go in and get
somebody out. And it's a tough situation for somebody like that.
It's not on the bench all year.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
So I know we have a lot of listeners who
have connections to Murray State. Maybe you went there, maybe
you you know somebody from your town has gone and
played there. I don't think you know. There are some
Western fans Drew that, for whatever reason, have a chip
on their shoulder and won't root for Kentucky. I've never
really understood that, but I feel like Murray stayed in
(13:01):
Kentucky fans.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
There's no animosity there. Would you agree, No, not at all.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
I'd say there's a lot of crossover fans in Western
Kentucky that like both and uh, never really have any
head to head rivalries with them at any point. No
losses we remember, so why not root for them?
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Have we have we ever lost to them? Ryan? In basketball?
Have we ever lost to Murray State?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
No?
Speaker 5 (13:22):
And that's the big debate. We won't play them because
they want to do a home and home remember Murray
State wants to do a home in a No, but
I mean.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Have we have we we have played them at some point,
I'm sure haven't we at some point?
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Man, I can't remember, maybe before my time, but they
played they playing in football a couple of times at
Croker Field. Yeah, they play them in baseball.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Have we ever played them in basketball?
Speaker 5 (13:46):
I don't remember ever playing Murray and basketball, you know,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
It feels like we had, we would have had to
have played at some point, but I don't know that
we have that.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
I mean, obviously we could look this up, but it's
much better Shannon, just to guess like this randomly.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
I have no men.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
We were supposed to play him in the tournament and
we lost to Saint Peter's.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Right, right, and then the Saint Peter's beat Murray the
next game. But I don't think we've played Murray and
basketball at least in the modern era.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I don't. I can't remember it.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
So all the more reason we don't have any reason
to have any animosity towards it.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
Football Day was just last season.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Yeah, it's still fat. We played themball thing.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Max coached at Murray State obviously for a year.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
The Spanish or the foreign language festival there.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
That's also very important to the connection between the two schools.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
I have the s id's phone numb I'm getting ready
to call during the commercial break.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
All right, you take care of that. I'd like to
talk to Dan Skirka. But I do want to thank
Murray State Baseball for bringing me back some uh you know,
some good post NCAA tournament joy with their win down
in the regional last week, and you know we're gonna
we're gonna pull them through against Duke this weekend. If
I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, text
(15:04):
machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two
five four.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Gus already called Ryan out, but he's gonna make it
up by.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Getting the Skirka. This is KSR, welcome back, take you
sports radio.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
what person of the text machine which is seven seven
two seven seven four five two five four said that
was a great first segment because it was all their personalities.
You had frustrated matt Heel, Shannon defensive Ryne sarcastic.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Drew, that's very true.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
It kind of was is that kind.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Is kind of true. You said you have definitive proof
of something, Shannon.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Oh yeah, I've got the receipts, I've got the text
messages that are time stamped on. When I got what's
the time stamp? Okay, ten oh four, we're good. I
don't know what that means. Ten oh five on two okay,
so now I know where I can find you. And
that's when I switched over to two.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Two and the show starts at what time?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Ten oh three?
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Yeah, Drew and verified, and we put our headsets on.
We were connected and could hear the jingle. So I
texted Shannon, Hey, we're good.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
The jingle it's so Yeah, when the jingle starts, that's
when because we were in the other studio trying to
set it up right right Shannon with Shannon didn't know
how to do it.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
He didn't know what killed me to do.
Speaker 7 (16:17):
It's true, yeah, because.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
No help.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Yeah, let me argue was your responsibility. But okay, did
we get the Murray State coach.
Speaker 5 (16:26):
I've made contact of the s I d H the coach.
They're in en route back. They're trying to say that
tomorrow morning would be better, but I'm.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Not tomorrow morning. I would like I know they're in
route back.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
This is a chance to get the entire Kentucky fan
base on board. I would love to have him. We
got other things to do tomorrow. This is If they
don't want to do it, that's totally fine, but I don't.
I mean, I know it's short notice, but this would
be the chance, s I d I mean, Murray State,
there's a huge Kentucky fan base that would love to
(16:58):
root for you. Your coach is very, very likable. I've
heard the interview after he beat Old Miss the first
time in last night. This would be wouldn't you agree, Ryan,
A good to A good time to do it.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
Yeah, you gotta kind of strike while the iron's hot.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
You got to strike what it's hot. I'm excited about
it right now, Shanton. Tomorrow we might there might be
a story about Zipper merging and we move on.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
That's right, Yeah, I mean right now is a great opportunity.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Now is a great time. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Okay, so I'm sure tomorrow morning would be better, but
we have other things to do tomorrow morning. So hopefully
just let us know if you If you can't, I uh,
I totally understand a little update. We made this announcement yesterday,
So we are taking at KS Bar basically a two
(17:42):
month break of June and July to uh to do
some renovations and to do some updates with the with
the restaurant just historically, you know, if you just look
at the bar, here's the way the a sports bar
in Lexington works. At least an independently owned one like
like ourselves, June in July our slowest months in general.
(18:02):
You go back to when we opened in twenty eighteen,
it's always been like that. But also we just have
decided we need to do some updates to the place
in general. We need to make it you know, we
need to renovate some stuff, especially in the back in
the kitchen because we have a small kitchen and that
can get crowded on big game days. We also need
to do some menu changes, et cetera. So we're gonna
(18:24):
use this June in July to do sort of a
refresher update. We'll open back in August, you know, hopefully
a couple of weeks if not earlier, before the football season.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
So I want to thank.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
All of you that wrote support yesterday, and we're looking
forward to being back open. But because of that, in
June and July, we're gonna do some shows in different
places because we always usually do them at the bar.
So one of the things we're gonna do is we're
gonna have a contest starting next week where Ryan, we
(18:58):
will do the show at someone in Kentucky's house over
the course of the summer.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Now do you like that idea.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
On the outset?
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Yes, Now I need more excitement about this idea. No, Drew, no, uh,
before we start.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
I'm all went on going to a random person's house.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
I expect you were part of our initial conversation about
this on the on the on the other show, we're
gonna do a you can bring us to your house
for a morning show. I'll explain how next week. But Drew,
it will be a chance for us to go somewhere
different over the course.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Of the summer.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
I'm all about it. I want to go into someone's home.
I want to kick my shoes off, put my feet
up on their couch. I want to drink their coffee,
eat their bagels, and just basically live in someone's residence
for two hours while we do the show. I think
that'd be fun to go to a stranger's house.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
W CW Nitro did this once. They had a contest
bring Nitro to your house?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Remember that.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
Yeah, and WWF had a thing called in your House,
which is what we're going to be doing by basically.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
So we will do that next week.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
But because of that, but Kaos Bar will be closing
June in July, move back in August. We're keeping uh
for some people have asked because you've gotten to know
our staff, we're keeping our managers on during this period
and the folks that are you know, we have a
lot of people that work part time, they have other
jobs or their students, et cetera. The handful of people
that work regularly that we're helping them, they'll have other
(20:23):
jobs within.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
The restaurant community until we open back up.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
So uh, Ryan Drew, I know you guys are like me,
You're gonna miss everybody, But this is the best decision
for the restaurant and also kind of trying to improve it.
We need, as with everything, you need to kind of
restart it a little bit. And Ryan, we're gonna use
this as our chance to do that.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Yeah, I think we'll come back better than ever. Ready
for Hit football season, Head on with the you know,
some improvements and thinks we're gonna do with the restaurant.
Kind of gets us back on on the road like
old school KSR during the summer where we're on the
road doing across the state shows. So that'll be kind
of fun to get back to that a little bit.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, so we're looking for to it, but wanted to
make that announcement also for the Trivia finals, we will
still do that. It's one of these days in June.
I'll announce the day we will just still do it.
It'll likely be at the bar, but I will announce
it when it happens.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
AF.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
I'm nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven. I've
had somebody send me Skirka's number. What do you think, Shannon?
Should I just call him directly or do we have
to go through these apps?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
I a minute cinematach say hey, do you want to
come on KSR? Pretty self explanatory.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
I feel like that's I mean, I feel like that's
probably what you what you ought to do. Drew, we
didn't talk about this yesterday, but Carl Towns and the
Knicks end up taking a loss to the Pacers. Carl
did not play well in the final game and has
taken a lot of criticism of people trying saying they
(21:49):
need he needs to get gone. You saw the final game.
We talked about how much we enjoyed Carl getting good publicity.
Did it make you sad to see in the final
game in New York or excuse me any Indiana that
it didn't really go well at the end and all
the stuff people have said since then.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Yeah, I'm actually quite surprised that Knicks fans soured on
Carl so quickly. Overall, he had great run in the playoffs.
Even his last game. I still think he had pretty
big double double, just didn't shoot it well. I've been
seeing some things like Brunson and Cat can't play together.
I'm like, do we not just watch the run that
they just went on. So, yeah, I've got a little
(22:25):
defensive of my guy Carl. It was one thing to
make the zesty jokes. I might have scrolled through those
and have laughs here and there, but they seem to
really be upset with how I finished that series.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
I don't understand there are only four teams. There were
only four teams left. The Knicks hadn't been there since
two thousand, they get there and then they lose, and
everybody wants to break the team up. That makes no
sense to me. Weren't there Since you've had in twenty
five years, you should want to continue it. But people
have such short term thoughts and memories.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
It drives me nuts. We'll take a break. Sorry.
Speaker 8 (23:01):
TJ.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay.
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two
five four, uh, I sent a text message to the coach,
just like you suggested. Shannon thought. I felt I felt
very powerful when we sent that. Dan Skirka, uh, I'll
let you know if he responds. Now you have a response, Ryan,
(23:33):
what is your response?
Speaker 5 (23:34):
This is from the sid Really prefer to not have
him do an interview on the bus. He would work
out for tomorrow's show at some point it will work
best for us.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Okay, don't the stop off at a BUCkies get off
the bus?
Speaker 5 (23:47):
Amen call in.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
First of all, I think the bus wouldn't the bus
be cool, Drew, like, they're on the bus, Like, I
think that's even cooler than a regular interview. They're on
the bus. We can hear the excitement from the victory.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
Can even pass the phone. Maybe maybe the star players
sitting next to him pass the phone over, let him
get a moment on the radio.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
I think that's exciting the bus. It would be so cool.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
You're getting the moment. You know, you're all caught up
at the moment.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
Could it be that their partying too hard on the bus?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
Well, okay, I could I could excuse that if it's
that the party's too hard. You think the party's too
hard at ten.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Thirty in the morning n Central time, maybe they're still
a sleep.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
It's just that Ale Miss.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
And then like, wait, where do we think they are
on the bus? How do you get from Oxford to Murray?
Speaker 6 (24:38):
What's pretty short drive? Actually?
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Is it not very far?
Speaker 8 (24:42):
No?
Speaker 6 (24:42):
I know a lot of people from my side of
the state that went to Old Miss. It's a lot
of time you have to go.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
I'm trying to think you go through Memphis, right, you
would go? How do you get from Memphis to Murray?
Do you go through Nashville or do you go a
different way. I don't think you would go through Memphis.
Maybe just through Nashville. No, not even really through Nashville here. Yeah,
way through Memphis, I get. I mean there is a
map shit Google.
Speaker 6 (25:05):
Google says it's a three hour and forty minute drive
just skirt past Memphis.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
All right, So I guess, Ryan, we I mean if
they just said no, I guess we shouldn't write again.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Right, Well, maybe maybe he'll answer your text, maybe coming
a personal text from you. Maybe he'll convince you to
go ahead and do it.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
Yeah, it looks like you go through Memphis. Then you
go through Jackson, like we said, Martin Tennessee. Is that
I assume that's where U t Martin.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Is Martin right across the state line. Yep, you went
on to Burry State before they went wet.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Actually go through Martin. You'd go through Jackson then Paris, Tennessee.
Did we have a UK player from Paris, Tennessee? Ryan,
I feel like I know that from somewhere.
Speaker 5 (25:49):
I feel like you're right, somebody came from Paris, Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Who did we have from Paris, Tennessee? I feel like
we did. And then you go up through uh, through Murray.
Speaker 6 (25:59):
So they should be pretty soon. It just calls when
he gets home. It's a short trip.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
It would have been cool, but I'm not gonna press it.
We tried. I mean, I still will wish you luck.
I'm still gonna wear these shoes, Shannon, but it did.
I will say this has deflated my excitement a little bit.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Yeah, could have had a chance to talk to the
entire state of Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
That would have been cool.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
We can do it on the bus, though.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
The bus would have been much much cooler than anything else.
We have never a five nine twenty two eighty seven.
Couple open lines. Give us a shout. I'd love to
talk to you. We have never played Murray State, Ryan
and Basketball ever, which is kind of amazing. That's kind
of amazing that it's in the state and we have
never played them.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Somebody mentioned to we playing in a benefit game recent,
not too long ago, when Cal was here and like
for a found for a fundraiser or something. But I
don't remember that either.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
What do you mean a benefit game.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
A fundraiser game? I don't remember that. Somebody texted that.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
I have no memory of that, Drew, do you have
a memory.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
I don't know what that would be.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Yeah, I don't know that. I believe that happened. I'll
tell you another thing. I don't believe it happened. Louisville
had a recruit, Drew, that went on field of sixty eight.
What's the kids' names?
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Oh, Mitchell is his last name?
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Fru For Trey Mitchell's not the recruit, he's the guy
that played here. But there was a guy there. Frew
goes on field of sixty eight and in the course
of the conversation, says Trey Mitchell told him can tell
that Louisville had the best fans in the country and
(27:38):
that Louisville was the loudest place to play basketball. I
don't believe Trey Mitchell said that. First of all, I
don't think he would say that over Kentucky. Secondly, when
Trey was here, Louisville was terrible. That was when Kenny
Payne was here, so they were like forty people at
the games. Do you believe that Trey Mitchell told this
(27:58):
random kid going to Louisville that Louisville had the best fans.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
I do not believe this whatsoever. One Trey Mitchell wouldn't
do that to us. I don't believe that at all.
I think this is the case. This guy Frew, he
was playing over in Germany. I think maybe he had
a conversation with Trey Mitchell. Trey was talking about Kentucky,
and he just associated Louisville as being in Kentucky with
Kentucky fans, and it just got kind of combined. There
(28:24):
maybe a slight miscommunication that that Frew took the wrong direction.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Oh, so this kid's in Germany? Yes, okay, why you
could see that, Shannon? If you're in Germany like you
would just I mean, you barely even know what the
states in Germany?
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Like?
Speaker 3 (28:43):
How many cities in Germany? Shannon? Can you name just
off the top of your head?
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Munich?
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Munich? All right? What else? Can you get five? No,
it's the capital. You can get the capitol Berlin, Berlin. Okay,
that's two? All right? Can we collect? We get five?
In Germany?
Speaker 6 (29:02):
Hamburg shout out Hamburg.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Like our Hamburg, part of Lexington, anybody else, Frankfurt, Frankfort
up to four?
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Can we get five?
Speaker 5 (29:14):
I'm out going once.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
For it's pretty impressive. I don't care what you say.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
What about where all the American military is we have
a ton of American military in one city.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Like if you go to this city.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
I went to this city, there are probably fifty thousand
Americans walking.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Around because we have a military base there. I know.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Stuttgart Stuart has has like a massive military base. Anyway,
if you didn't know, if you didn't know any of
the places, like in Kentucky, you would think Louisville and
Kentucky are the same place.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yeah, I could see that. And Trey Mitchell has already
responded on Instagram saying that's what do you say? That's
no cap? Is that what he's say? No? No, no here?
Does you know that's cap? I think that means you
know that's a lie?
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (30:06):
No, CAP would mean he's telling the truth.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Okay, yeah, yeah, you know you know k n O
W No, that's cap.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
So he wrote you know that's cap yeah, which means
you know that's a lie.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Yeah, because when was here, and that's when Kenny was there,
And that was when Kenny Payne was there.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
They had no one at their games, Like, no one
at their games can't be true.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Who's up first? Let's go to Bubba Bubba? How are
you Bubba?
Speaker 8 (30:34):
Fine? I just called in yesterday about the Tommy Bannon
uh no, hitter uk, Hey, I know you guys. You
just mentioned about having a at someone's house to show
with someone's house.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Yes, we'll have a contest or something.
Speaker 8 (30:48):
Yeah, okay, Well I've got a lot of sports memorabilia
and I think it'd be a great place at baby.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Yeah, we'll have the contest, Bubba.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
I mean, I'm sure your place would be great, but
we'll have some kind of contest or something to make
I mean, I don't it's it's not about the the
memorabilia so much. It's just gonna be like a cool
like we'll see where we end up going and and
you should enter it and who knows, maybe we'll be
there with your memorabilia.
Speaker 8 (31:14):
But but hey, okay, but then again, I would like
you to come and look at this some of this stuff,
because I've got stuff signed by Wawai Jones and Ralph
Fearn and a lot of old Kentucky memorabilia stuff that
you might be interested with looking in.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Anyway, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Just uh yeah, just to enter the contest and we'll
we'll do it. Babba, Thank you, Thank you very much.
One person writes Matt. I hope Bob and Jamestown wins
the contest.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
I kind of do too.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Yeah, on the porch if we you know, I'm not
getting anywhere near that porch. I feel like that porch
shennon is that is at least the side of misdemeanors.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Oh yeah, things have gone down on that porch, unspeakable things.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
We've done the show at people's houses. We did Josephine's
house that one time.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
Yes, a woman in Louisville's house, yes time, yes, yeah, No,
I mean it's I think it would be I think
it would be fun. I'd love to do it in
like a town or a county that we haven't been
to before.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
I think that would be nice.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
But we'll have sort of a scientific uh, we'll have
a scientific you know thing.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Drew.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Did you see the video of the world chess champion
what's his name, Magnus Magnus Carlson. Magnus Carlson, the number
one chess player in the world. He lost to like
an eighteen year old. He lost to a kid, and
he kind of lost his temper when he lost. He
(32:45):
like slammed his hand down against the board. He did
shake hands and then he walked off in a huff.
It's a great video. I mean, obviously I don't know
anything about chess to know how he lost to this kid,
But what did you think of the video?
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Or a loser?
Speaker 6 (33:01):
I mean, let's be honest, A guy named Magnus that
looks like that probably would have predicted that's how he
would react. But I like that the uh the kid
and beat him, just calm and cool and collected, just
kind of stands up, keeps a straight face and walks
with the scene behind him, like a little walk off.
But I guess Magnus didn't used to losing those being
the best in the world.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Obviously, don't know a lot about chess. Is this kid
good or was this just a random kid?
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Do we know?
Speaker 2 (33:26):
I'd say if he mentioned the championship, he'd have to
be good to get there, But.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
That's probably true.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
Yeah, but I think he was the youngest ever to
win whatever that was, whatever championship.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Kid they said had not lost in three years.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Wow, and then he loses to this uh, to this kid,
he looks I feel like to be really good at chess, Shannon,
don't you think you have to be a little bit off.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Yeah, probably, so spending a lot of time playing chess,
you probably don't get out and make a lot of
friends unless you're chess buddies. I guess.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
I read a book this year called, uh, what's it
called inter Mezzo.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
It was by Sally Rooney.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
It's like a fiction book and it's very good, and
it's one of the It's got two main characters, and
one of the main characters is a lawyer, and one
of the main characters is a chess player. And the
chess player is like they give him have like a
heart of gold, but he's a little.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Bit like socially awkward.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
And I would think, Ryan, if you're gonna sit you're
to be really good at chess, you're gonna have to
stare at that chess board or that chess screen like
all the time.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
And so I feel like you can't help but be
a little awkward if you do that right.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
I would think so. And they memorize all these moon
you know. I watched Queen's Gambit, so I'm kind of
got behind the scenes on the Chess World.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Which was set in Lexington, isn't it absolutely? It was?
Speaker 5 (34:51):
I think the guy I wrote it was from Lexington,
but they memorize all these moves like possible Center. They
have them all memorizing their head. So magnus As he
must have been caught off guard by these young guy.
Maybe he underestimated his opponent a little bit.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
One of the cool things when you go to New
York City that you can see is you can go
shandon by these parks and they'll be chess boards set
up and they'll be older men, usually African American men,
who sit there and they just challenge whoever comes up
to chess and they just beat them.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Like all the time.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
They just sit there waiting for people to come challenge them,
and people will come up thinking they're gonna beat them.
And these guys, he's just these guys who are just
sitting there in the park will just like take on
all comers in chess.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
And I always think that's kind of.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
You should just walk up to one maybe later today
they sit down and see how you can last against
the profess chess.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Do you even know how? Do you know how to
play checks?
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Loosely?
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Yeah? I mean I know how the moves go, but
I would not have strategy. Yeah me either.
Speaker 4 (35:51):

If you could to talk on a bus, We'll be
right back to KSR. Welcome back is Kentucky Sports Radio
eight F I'm nine two eight zero twenty two eighty
seven text machine seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four through there's people telling me we played
Murray State in an untelevised exhibition game for tornado relief?
(36:42):
Is that I was that Murray or Morehead said?
Speaker 5 (36:48):
People don't text me that too, but it seems like
to me it was Morehead. Did we play Morehead in
a relief game?
Speaker 6 (36:54):
I don't remember that Kentucky playing Murray State?
Speaker 5 (36:59):
What was the game where the the coal miner set
in the front.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
Row was the Blue White game. They played that in Pipeville? Yeah? Right,
then they play that in Pikeville. I think they did
at the pipe Full Arena. Definitely.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Yeah, I mean I don't. I guess it's possible they
played a game against Murray State. They're saying it was
the Bam Fox monke Heer. I just have I have
no memory of that that I have, if that's true,
I have absolutely no memory of that whatsoever. So I mean,
(37:33):
I guess it's possible. But eight five to nine two,
eight oh twenty two to eighty seven. One person writes, Matt,
what are you hearing about UK football season tickets?
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Are you hearing any numbers?
Speaker 9 (37:45):
No?
Speaker 4 (37:46):
And that that's part of the worry for me Ryan
about the football season tickets is they haven't announced any
numbers that I've heard.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
I haven't heard. I mean normally at this time they'll.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Say, you know, season tickets are sold out or this
game is sold out. I mean, you have Texas coming
to town, you have Florida coming to town, you have
Tennessee coming to town, you have big games coming and
I've heard absolutely nothing about any of those games even
be selling out, much less season tickets.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Yeah. There are no official numbers.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
But I'm just I'm just anecdotally kind of expecting it
to be very very low.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Yeah, my fear is that those games you just talked
about will be full, but they'll be mainly full of
opposing teams fans in our stadium. I think Drew and
I talked about the Texas game after in Keenland. All
those folks probably coming to Lexon for the first time.
They'll probably flood Lexington by those tickets go out to
Keenland that weekend, So it's gonna be tough.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Do you walk in.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
There's a lot of orange in there for Tennessee, Texas
and maybe even Florida.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
The Herald Leader had something at the April season ticket deadline.
I think it said they were down like thirteen twelve
thirteen percent a couple months ago, which.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Well, that would be not as bad as I would
have thought, honestly.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
Yeah, it's only if it's only thirteen or twelve percent,
I mean, that's not good, but it would be better
than I thought. I mean, maybe it's just anecdotally, Drew
that people when they renew don't tell you, and when
they don't renew, they do. But I mean I just
I don't want to say the person's name because they
may not want me to do that. But I have
(39:20):
a very close friend who's had season tickets for as
long as I've known it. So we're talking twenty years
who didn't renew, And I mean, that's renewing even through
the Joker years, And I mean that's I feel like
that's a very bad sign.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
I know a lot of people like that too. Heck,
we heard from Jerry uh yeah, just recently. I would
have probably guessed more than thirteen percent. But at the
same time, if you're a business and your stock goes
down thirteen percent, that's a pretty big deal and people
are gonna be upset with you and need some good prs.
So it's not a great decline, or it's at a
time we need.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
More revenue, right Like, that's at a time that we're
adding twenty two million dollars to our budget for nil.
So I mean, I guess that's a good point if
you're I don't know what the football season tickets bring in,
but let's say they bring in thirty million dollars.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
If all of a sudden, you take.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Three, you know, three point nine percent, or you know,
three point nine million dollars out of that budget. You
got to make it up somewhere. So I guess, Ryan,
I mean, you do connect with a lot of football fans,
probably even more than I do.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
What are you?
Speaker 5 (40:25):
What are you here right right now? I think it
is they're kind of holding off. I just kind of
hope that as the season gets closer, they'll kind of
get back on board and get them on the excitement,
Like go ahead and get those tickets and go to
the games. You know, maybe you'll as as we the
summer progresses, we'll start hearing maybe some more positive things
about that. I talked to a football guy today. He
gave me a little some positive news to make you
(40:46):
feel a little bit better maybe about football. He said,
the offensive line will be better than people think. Like
that kid from New Mexico State, I guess is legit,
Like he's really good. Farmers back at guard, the kid
the kid from Alabama at the other guard, and so
they I.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Guess that's good. Sha. It just depends on what people think.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Yeah, how bad?
Speaker 3 (41:05):
How bad? Yeah that's true. Yeah, who's up next?
Speaker 2 (41:11):
KB?
Speaker 3 (41:13):
How are you KB? Hey?
Speaker 9 (41:16):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Guys? Hey?
Speaker 8 (41:17):
Real quick?
Speaker 9 (41:18):
Matt did you say you went to the kaiserslaughter while
he's in Germany.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
I went to what.
Speaker 9 (41:24):
Did you go to kaiserslaughter? Or where'd you go at
in Germany? We're talking about the military.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
People, I said, Stu Guard Oh okay.
Speaker 9 (41:32):
Never mind, never mind. I'm Marry kaiserslat And So I
don't know if you I missed that conversation.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
You're in Germany right now?
Speaker 9 (41:38):
Yeah, yeah, I'm right here. I'm on Ramstein.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
So all right, Well, God God bless.
Speaker 9 (41:44):
I appreciate it. Now, I got a quick question. I'm
