This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Welcome everyone.

Speaker 5 (00:36):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Monday, June the sixteenth. I'm
Matt Jones here in the summertime, and it is a
Clarks Puppy Shop. Fuone line is eight five nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto Glass
text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four. In this edition spots a by the TJ.
Smith Lovius. If you call TJ, He'll make them pay.
Big day today, a lot of stuff to talk about

(00:59):
and I'm but we're gonna pick another KSR comes to
you show, So just nobody call in yet.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
But Northern Kentucky be.

Speaker 6 (01:10):
On the lookout, Northern Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Northern Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
You know, we don't do a lot of shows at
We do them at the sports bar with the wings
I like, which I've eaten at forty times and I
can't remember the name of it ever, what is it?

Speaker 6 (01:23):
I always draw barley Corns, thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
Always always always draw yeah blank on the name of
that Barley Corns. Anyway, we're gonna go up there this week,
so just hang tight. I'll tell you how to do it.
But Northern Kentucky be on the lookout because the Reds
play Thursday at twelve forty. So I want to do
I want to do it up there so I can
get to the game because it's a holiday game even

(01:47):
though we're doing a show. So uh, Drew Franklin is
back yeay a week and a half. First of all,
let's say happy fortieth birthday. I realize until I realized
it was your birthday and I was like, he really
is forty. I never thought I didn't think you'd get
to forty to be honest with you. I had questions

(02:08):
myself sometimes you know if it would happen.

Speaker 7 (02:10):
So congratulates happy I beat the odds, ready for this
new decade. Had a lot of fun while I was away.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
What do you do?

Speaker 7 (02:17):
I went to Mexico with a bunch of my best
friends who also turned forty around which Cancun, had a
great time my wife and post.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Any pictures of that. Does that mean there was shenanigans.

Speaker 7 (02:27):
No, it's one of those I'll do a later gram
where I just never got around to it. I'm very
good at staying off my phone, which is which is
a weird time to do it, considering what happened. And
then you went to New York, right, Yeah, My wife
broke her foot in Mexico, so we almost canceled New
York at the last minute because it is a big
walking city.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
But she scootered her.

Speaker 7 (02:45):
Way up there and we had a fun week, got
a little leg scooter, had a good time.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
You know, Shannon. That means Abby was messed up in
Mexico living on fried Dren Yes, to quote Tim McGraw.

Speaker 7 (02:56):
But per tradition, impeccable timing with my vacations. I'm now
three for three on leaving at the worst possible time.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
Imagine you were on vacation when Stoops considered going down
any enyep, when Cali Perry left for ARC and so
only took off that Monday that week, and now this
you have been like when you leave town falls apart
and I feel, you know, leaving I even consider that
when I'm going.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
I mean, this was a little more about my birthday.
But on the timing, I'm like, mid June, great time
to go, nothing going on, shows some good hands.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
What could possibly go wrong? And what day did it happen? Monday? Tuesday?

Speaker 5 (03:28):
I don't even know what date was. It was Sunday night.
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
Regardless, I hadn't been on my phone and I don't
know when. And Abby was like, you should check Twitter.
I'm like, no, I'm good. She's like, no, you should
probably check Twitter. I'm like, no, I really don't want
to look at Twitter. She's like, here's your phone, look
at Twitter. And that that's when I'd realized I was
a few hours behind, but saw the big Vince news.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
So generally speaking, I you know, I always took my
vacations the first couple of weeks of June, because generally speaking,
nothing happened. You could come back still get the draft.
You know, the portals were all closed, like there was
really nothing going on. But but this has been different,
and luckily we were here. So let's just start with this. Shannon,

(04:08):
pull up. Vince gave a goodbye message to the fans,
and I do want to play and see if it
has any impact on anybody.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
But let's just start with you.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
I mean, I've probably of this group, all three of
us know Vince. Well, we all three went to the wedding.
We all three are friends. You know, I'm not gonna
rank who knows him the best, but you are would
be close to me. If you're not right there with me.
What what did you.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Think when you heard the news?

Speaker 7 (04:33):
Well, first of all, you mentioned being close. I drunk
doll Vince from Mexico the night before this happened. He
did not answer.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
But we were playing a phone roulette game, you know,
the trend tell people good night.

Speaker 7 (04:43):
Yeah, we all decided around the dinner table, we're gonna
call people some good called Mario.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Mario. I went to we all had to scroll.

Speaker 7 (04:50):
I went to the last name EM's so I called
Mario Maitland called Marilyn Manson and Vince Marrow to tell
them all good night.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Little did I know a few hours later Vince would
be leave. But I did call Vinceton you really wanted
to tell him good night, Like it was.

Speaker 7 (05:03):
I had no idea any of this was going on.
Just simply wanted to say good night, Vince. Y'all's pricing
that trend. But I did have that odd, odd timing
going on there. But yeah, I know, I like you guys.
It's a little different this coach leaving than any others.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
But were you surprised?

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Shocked, absolutely shocked.

Speaker 7 (05:20):
I thought this last time around, when we had the
Pizza Ranch episode, I've kind of thought.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
That might be the one.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
But when he didn't do it then, even though his
comments were weird, I just thought this the Vince Louville thing.
It's just it's a gimmick that comes up every few months,
and to see it actually happen, especially it's talking about
the timing mid June, I couldn't believe it.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
I think it's a horrible, horrible decision on his part.
I think it's a horrible decision too.

Speaker 7 (05:42):
I don't think he's considering legacy and how much people
are really not liking that.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
So, I mean, I'm not I won't go into details,
but I talked to him for like an hour on
on Friday, and uh, you know, I had to look
I had to look at him and say, I love you, man,
but I hope you lose every game. You know, I
hope you lose every single game. And he was like, oh, man,
you know, and I was like, I'm just being honest

(06:07):
with you. I hope you lose every game. Like I
don't know, I kind of said to him, I don't
know why you would be surprised that I would say that,
Like you're going to Louisville. I told you, like I
told you, this was gonna be everybody's reaction. And you know,
he explained to me some of his reasons, and I

(06:27):
get it. I get it, but I don't get it
because it's Louisville, and you know, I mean, I I
said to him. I talked to him just a little
bit about the difference in the two places, you know,
cause I've lived I live in both places now and
they're very different. And one of the things, again I
don't want to go in the conversation, but One of

(06:48):
the things I said to him was, you know how
you could come into ks Bar and get a standing ovation,
and you know how you could go into Jeff Rubies
and everybody looks at you.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
I was like, in louivill they're not even gonna know
who you are. They won't like.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
They don't half the city doesn't even care about sports.
And then of the half that care about sports, half
of them are Kentucky fans and half of them are
Louisville fans. Right, So I said, you gotta realize the
horse industry is huge. You got ups, you got I mean,
it is a city, and this is a part of
the city, but it's not the whole city like it

(07:24):
is Lexington. We all even people in Lexing who don't
care about sports, they're almost forced to care about sports.
But in Louisville that's not true. And I was just like,
it's just gonna be different. And I think Ryan, I
don't know that he thought through that the way that
we know.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Maybe he should have, and that's what's.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Kind of surprising.

Speaker 8 (07:43):
Surely he had to understand you a little bit that
we were all gonna I don't think he did.

Speaker 9 (07:48):
That's crazy. I mean he lived this rivalry for twelve
years now. He gave this morning, Shannon, you're gonna play.
He gave a that this was weird to me.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
I have to tell you because I look at the
behind the scenes things. Athlete Advantage is the entity that
does a lot, if not all, of the nil for
UK football.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Right Vince is now a coach at Louisville.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
An Athlete Advantage put out a Vince Merriw video with music. Shannon,
I don't understand why that happened, and either I like
the Athlete Advantage people, but you are nil people for Kentucky.
Why are you putting out a video? But nevertheless, like.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Four K two, it's intently well done.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
They put some editing in it. Hey, athlete Advantage, you
are for Kentucky. What are you doing? Nevertheless they did.
Here was the statement, Let's see if it has any
effect on you all.

Speaker 10 (08:47):
I want to talk to you guys, the Big Blue Nation.
I really love you guys, and I really appreciate because
you guys really help me built my career with your
support from when I first came here. I remember, buddy
to me, while you're going there, you you guys gonna
be fired in two years, I was the lowest paid coach.
I heard all the jokes. I wanted to build and

(09:09):
bring players in so we can win and we can
have some pride and dignity. It is hard. I'm not
gonna even sugarcoat. It's hard because of my loyalty to
really you guys, the fans. But this is a job
opportunity I feel I can pass up. I passed up
several other ones that people, you guys, as the fans know.

(09:32):
But just like a lot of you guys, you got families.
A lot of you guys had opportunities with different jobs,
and you move and take it. You doing what's best
for your family. I'm doing what's best for my career.
I really enjoyed being here thirteen years with you guys,
because you guys are a really good fan base to

(09:53):
the Big Blue Nation, one of the best. I'm pretty
sure y'all gonna boo me when I come back, though,
But I really do love you guys.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
All right, So uh Shandon, I'll let you go. Fires.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, the dramatic piano music like is that it supposed
to make me feel sympathetic towards Vince Merrill?

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Well did it? No?

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Absolutely, not. He said he was loyal. He was for
a long time, but was flushed down the toilet, Vince
when you went directly to our biggest rival.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
So it doesn't have any effect.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
I mean, I still believe and still feel the same
way that I felt last week when we were talking
about this. I guess it's nice that he had a
final goodbye to Big Blue Nation, but it doesn't change
anything for me.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Are you surprised Ryan that Athlete Advantage puts that out.

Speaker 8 (10:38):
I didn't know that until you said that, And I
can't believe they're the entity that put that video out.
It's like a swan song for Vince's on Like that's
like Channing's That sappy piano music is almost like he
died or something.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
There was a violin in there too.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
Is that a love for it?

Speaker 11 (10:54):
You know?

Speaker 6 (10:55):
He we said it's about Cali Perry. He chose to
leave us.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Vince Merrill chose to leave us.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
Club Blue did not put out a coach cow they
but like leave video.

Speaker 7 (11:07):
No, It's it's very odd. If I weer Vince's pr coach,
I'd say you've done enough interviews.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
I feel like he's I.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
Think he should have put a statement like that out
last week, probably on his own, probably without the piano music.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Just look at just look at been fine.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Yeah, just look into the camera and say, hey, guys,
I love you.

Speaker 10 (11:31):
With that.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
Being said, you know, I'm taking my talents to Louisville.
That's right, Like he should have done something like that.
It's it's a week later, okay, whatever. I mean, I
he probably wanted to say something. I'm like you, Drew.
He's gonna regret it. He's gonna regret it.

Speaker 12 (11:48):
He just is.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
He's gonna regret it. And I you know, I get it.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
I'm sure he won't regret it with their winning games
next year and all that, but he's gonna regret it.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
He is.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
I mean, that's but I hope, I hope he ends
up happy. I don't, I don't. I do think these coaches,
they all this goes back to Rick Patino.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
They all don't.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
Realize that they are cogs in the machine. They are
not the machine. Rick Patino and John Caliperry and Vince
Merrow and I don't care who's next. You're always secondary
to the machine. And so is Matt Jones, so is

(12:35):
Tom Leech, so is kaywood Letford, we're all like, we
all do this and then when it's over, like everybody
will move to the next one. And yet they sometimes
think that like we're all gonna sit around and cry,
and it's people. You know, it's a summer. We're gonna

(12:55):
talk about this because there's not a whole lot else
to talk about. But then everybody's gonna move on. And yes,
they're gonna boo you. That's how it's gonna be. Rick
got booed, Cow got booed. They were bigger than Vince.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
He's going to get booed too.

Speaker 7 (13:09):
Yeah, and he'll never be the legend you could have
been here if he had just even if he went
to a different school off of UK schedule, he would
have always had a place in Lexington. But now at Louisville,
if it doesn't work there, they'll chew you up and
spitch you out. We saw it happened to Kenny Payne.
Now he's a joke in Louisville. So you can end
up where both places don't like you if you don't
do well there.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
Yeah, that would be highly well yeah what if what
if they don't do well? Yeah, in three years he's gone.
I mean he's gonna be a joke in Louisville.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Neither places a home.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
I do like also, how these guys Rick did the
same thing, are like, I love the state so much.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Come on, it look like the ponies in the state.
No you don't.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
I mean, like, well, the video is a little much
for me. Not that, not Vince saying something I think
he needed. I'm good with him doing that, but the
music and I this is the third time I've said
I'll drop it after this. I don't know what athlete
advantages doing your job is to get us players. I
don't understand how like making the Louisville recruiting coach sympathetic

(14:08):
is somehow a positive in getting players. I have no
idea what athlete advantages doing. They should have done it.
Get out of here vidin day he left, Like the
UK side of this should have been light Louisville.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
You all make the videos for Kentucky fans. I can't
believe they did that.

Speaker 8 (14:25):
I have a shock when you said that, because I
didn't know they were behind it. It's like we said
with the count their account, like we did we said
with cal you know we were here long before you
got here. We're gonna be here long after you left.
Same thing with Vince. We were here long before you
got here. We're gonna be long after you left.

Speaker 7 (14:39):
Do you think they paid for the rights to that music?
Did that come out of our collective to play that sound.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
Sappy piano music?

Speaker 5 (14:46):
No, they went to the UK band Orchestra and they're like,
we need you to play Shannon a sappy song.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yeah, they said, should we add violin? Yes, one violin.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Let's make a generic enough, let's the world's get flagged
by anybody.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
I heard they tried to get everyt McCorvey.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
He couldn't do it, was gonna go God bless me,
and then it didn't end up happening eight five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. The text machine
is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
We'll take a break and be right back, skis. I
mean this could have been what they played.

Speaker 9 (15:23):
I love you, you.

Speaker 13 (15:25):
Are too heart, you too can save a former assistant
coach just ten dollars, just ten dollars a month. Well,
help it stopped.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
I can't even I can't believe athlete, I got you?
What are they doing? Come on?

Speaker 6 (15:41):
I know you're gonna boom me, I love you.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
I should have done that video, but I actually think
it's one of those circumstances where it's almost better to
not be overly produced, right like the like the more
real it is, you know, the better.

Speaker 7 (15:55):
In my opinion, I would have liked just doing one
last good vents tweet out to be be in Yeah, sudden,
write it up on Twitter, however it comes out.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
I brought you a bunch of grown Men g r
O A N. I will miss Vince's horrible spelling, worst speller,
like worst speller we've ever had.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Who was? I love Vince, but who was the worst speller?

Speaker 6 (16:19):
Like Ronnie Demery had some bad ones, that's true.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Spelling be very true.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Had some ones that that two of the best Twitter accounts,
no doubt, I mean he is Vince is not a
good speller, and he loved grown Man g r O
a N. That was a big one for him. He
probably did that. He probably did that one ten times,
didn't he?

Speaker 4 (16:45):
Yeah big on that one.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (16:46):
Spell check would have held Vince on Twitter, that's fy.
That would would have would have been the best way
to say goodbye.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
I don't think we.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Would have changed grown though, you know, it's actually right,
but it's not the right content.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
That's true.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
It's a man who's very frustrated by things, grown man,
that's true. That's what hurts him. Miss Spelly, that's just
a different one. Hey five nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven. What person said. I watched the protest
this weekend in New York and wondered if I would
see Drew getting caught up in it, since I know
he was there.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
I was there. Did you not get caught up in it?

Speaker 7 (17:19):
I was all caught up in it. That's Bryant Park
is where I was staying. I mean I looked out
my window and it was in front of me, so
I sent there. There was some interesting looking people there.
We had a rainy day on our last day. Abby's
on a scooter, so we couldn't do a whole lot
and we just sat in a coffee shop in Brent
Park and watched the whole thing.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
I'm not really you know, I'm not a big protester.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
I don't know that I've ever actually protested anything, because
I mean I'm a big on like do something, that'll
do something, and like I just don't I think people
should do it.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
If they want to do it. It's just not what
I usually do.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
But I actually got up Saturday and I was like,
you know what, maybe I'll walk down to one of those.
And I was all like ready and then start righting,
and I was like, you know what, I'm not. I mean, Shitton,
we can all have our opinions, but we don't need
to get wet.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Yeah, we all have our limitations regular, but don't get
him wet.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
He's like playing.

Speaker 5 (18:14):
I don't even get yeah, I mean, I don't feed
me after midnight, don't get me last.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
That's right. That's why I made it fun to watch
up there.

Speaker 7 (18:22):
It was pouring and people had costumes and sign and
they were just getting soaked.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Okay, all right, let's go to Adam. What's up, Adam?

Speaker 12 (18:31):
I want to come that. Look.

Speaker 14 (18:33):
I love Ben.

Speaker 12 (18:34):
I appreciate what he did for the program, but you
cannot claim loyalty after you You can't just you know,
you can't be a husband and say well I hadn't
cheated for thirteen years, now I did this time.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
But it is true. You can't.

Speaker 5 (18:47):
You can't be loyal. You can only be loyal to one.
That's true. There is a little bit of that, honey. Yeah,
I cheated here at the end, but the other thirteen
years were amazing, weren't they.

Speaker 12 (19:01):
Yeah, that that's totally foul. Yeah, don't wish him well.
I hope lou will finish last in the SEC. Hope
we beat it by ninety all right.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
I appreciate the call, even in the SEC.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Yeah, you can't. You can't do that. There's there is
a there's a part of that that's kind of well.

Speaker 8 (19:17):
You talked to him, does he not having even a
little bit understand why fans are upset?

Speaker 4 (19:24):
I mean, I think he was surprised. Really, I think
he was surprised. I think he was surprised.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
As strange as this sounds, I think the moment that
it hit him maybe was when the guy dunkin Donuts
flipped him off. I know that's crazy, but I think
he like, I mean, think about it. It is very
hard when you are in a position of power, authority, whatever,

(19:51):
to be you get you can be disconnected from reality. Right,
if all you see are people praising you, you can
forget that there's a different view out there, right when
you put people in a bubble. I mean, the best
example of this in Sports was John cal Perry. He
was in a bubble. No one would tell him that

(20:15):
anyone felt negatively about him, except they would say Matt
Jones and Drew Franklin did that. The only information that
got filtered to cal was everybody loves you except Matt
Jones and.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Drew Franklin and Kyle Tucker. That's what he got told.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
And so his view was the world loves me, Matt Jones,
Drew Franklin and Kyle Tucker are screwing it up. It
was not reality, but that's all that was told to him.
Then we have coaches who are too connected to reality.
I almost think Mark Stoops is like that Mark Stoops. Hears,

(20:52):
almost seeks it out. I think that's a mistake. I
think Vince was in a world where no one ever
told him anything but they loved him, and then all
of a sudden it flips and he just didn't see
it coming.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Right. And you and me, Drew and Ryan and Mario
and Shannon.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
We live in a world where we get on all
We spend a lot of our days on social media,
so we know that people hate us. I don't have
it falls in my lap, right, but I think a
lot of times these coaches don't. And when you live
like that drew and then it hits you in reality,
it's kind of like, WHOA, what's happening. I mean, when

(21:35):
you are any type of leader, you can create your
own world. You can go to places where you're only
cheered and the people that boo you can just go, no,
that's not real. And you got to be careful about that.
And in this case, I think he was just surprised.

(21:56):
He knows now, but I think he was surprised.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
I know that I'd say he underestimates the rivalry, but
he probably didn't understand how much it would really upset
people that he would leave for Louisville. Even him saying,
y'all are gonna boom me. He's being playful with it,
but there are people who do not want to see
him in Lexington again, like ever.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
And I don't think he saw that getting that bad.
It's a delicate.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
Situation because you don't want to open yourself up as
a leader or as somebody in a public eye to
constant negativity.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
That's like bad for your mental health.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
But then if you also like completely shut yourself off
from reality, you can have no sense of what the
world is like, and that balance I think is really
hard for.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
People, especially coach.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
It seems like presidents, governor's coaches, they seem to have
the hardest time with it.

Speaker 8 (22:41):
Ryan, So what happens next time he walks through cast
bar or jeffreyban here and town shouldn't come?

Speaker 4 (22:48):
He shouldn't. He's a Louisville guy. Now he shouldn't come.
He shouldn't be at jeff Ruby's. And Lessington agreed. So
we'll take a break talking about some other stuff. It's
KOSR TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.

Speaker 5 (23:01):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgane.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
I really liked this song.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
I know it's like cheesy and stupid, Shannon, but I've
always liked it.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Yeah, but so is every other Tim McGraw song. And
it's good stupid, but.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
He had he had a run that it was pretty good. Rights,
what's your favorite Tim McGraw saw.

Speaker 6 (23:22):
Oh got a barbecue my wife.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
A lot of people are Ye, that's it. That's what's that.

Speaker 6 (23:26):
Called killing me? And that miniskirt something like that, something
like that like that.

Speaker 5 (23:31):
Yeah, I like the one where he's like, put me
out on the farm and some land and leave me alone.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
What's it called where he's like, put me on the
farm with Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
What I like is don't take the girl.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
That's the one that's Thompson, and take Tommy, tom take
Jimmy Johnson, and take take Tommy. I always thought it
was here that he picked two people with famous names.
He picked the Dallas Cowboys coach and Tommy Thompson at
the time was like a governor of Wisconsin. It's like
he picked two names that were real names, not a
best friend named bo at the time when it came out.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
There, you go bo Bob.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
Both of us did, both of us. So yeah, But
what is the one where he's like, he wants he
has a yard. He has a yard, give me a
little more than is gonna know this song talking about.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Talking about the Rockers pointing to the west.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
Yeah, rocker tears towards.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
The green grass grow.

Speaker 6 (24:31):
Yes, yes, great?

Speaker 4 (24:33):
What did you say about it?

Speaker 6 (24:34):
In the yard?

Speaker 11 (24:35):
It had a.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Yard watching watching his corn.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
And he said, leave me alone. I was close.

Speaker 11 (24:41):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
This segment sponsored by Bluegrass Roofing and Consulting They want
you to know they're here for you.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
They're not a door knocking company. You come to them.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
I've had like a number of people in the last
couple of weeks talk to me that they've used them.
Bluegrass Roofing and Consulting were never acquiring upfront deposit. The
only exchange money. After your job is complete. Go to
Bluegrass Roofing and con dot com. They have a lifetime
warranty on any full replacement or excuse me, lifetime warning
in full roof replacement or five percent off.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
Of the entire job.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
If use the code KSR, it's Bluegrassroofing and Consulting dot
com or one eight hundred roof pro. Okay, So here's
the deal. Thursday, I'm going to the Reds game. So
we're going to do our show in northern Kentucky. Don't
call this number. I'm gonna give you another number if
you would like to host us. And we are open
to a number of different options. The only thing is
I can't, like do an ad for your business. We

(25:30):
could sit at your business, but I can't do an
ad for it. You can't say we're coming, but like, well,
we could do it. We could do it at your house.
We could do it at community cit or we could
do it like anywhere you think we're open to. Billy
Drew is going to be our first like I guess
cut off. Okay, so he is sitting there, Operator not operators.

(25:53):
Operator is standing by Billy. Here's the number. It's the
ninety eight one, the bull numb. If you would like
to host us, but you need to be in northern Kentucky.
I have to be able to leave your house and
get to the Reds game by twelve forty. You can
do it, okay. Eight five nine, eight five nine four
two two three two nine nine eight five nine four

(26:18):
two two three two nine to nine. Operator is standing by,
and he will pick the best couple and then let
us know and we'll pick where we're going.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
And we trust Billy with.

Speaker 5 (26:31):
For you to call eight five nine four two two
three two nine nine.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
Our first one was great.

Speaker 8 (26:36):
The other day ks R comes to your house with
Grandpa's and Grandma's.

Speaker 6 (26:39):
Drew was awesome.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
It was. It was because you had the best food
set up. Yep uh.

Speaker 5 (26:45):
They were Judd and and what it was Laura and
Laura and they it was.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
It was awesome.

Speaker 7 (26:50):
I will say I was pretty glad to get away,
but I was jealous of the First House show. I
saw the pictures a great time.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
So eight five nine four two two three two nine nine,
Tyler Hero, look at Mario, I'm shaking his hand. So
Tyler Hero went on a stream with his name? Is
his name Aiden ross Yep?

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Is that his name?

Speaker 5 (27:10):
I guess is what's his talent is? Why do people
watch streaming? But when you say streaming, what does he
do in the stream? Does he play video games? He
just talks. I think he built.

Speaker 7 (27:22):
His brand as a video game guy, but now you
just go live and leave it running and make it
seems awful.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
I don't know much about him, but Tyler Hero was
on with him, and in the course of the conversation,
it looked to me, I don't want to disparage anybody,
but it looked to me like maybe some illegal substances.
I think he had at least one corn bread him
alsor just looking at it.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
But he said that he didn't believe any history existed
prior to nineteen fifty, which is a really stupid statement.
But I don't even know what he means by it.
Does he mean like nothing happened before nineteen fifty? Does
he mean that? Like he he thinks things happened, but
he didn't believe they happened. There were a lot of
pretty important things, Shannon, that happened right before.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
Nineteen Yeah, like World War.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
Two, the Holocaust.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
I mean, there was a lot of stuff that happened
right before nineteen fifty. He also said he didn't think
the moon landing happened, which I don't think he knows
happened after nineteen fifty. You know, I like Tyler Hero,
but that was one of those drew that I watched
it and I go, someone get him, yes, and like
move him out, don't I don't don't be on that anymore.

(28:35):
It's also like, isn't he in his mid to late
twenties now, Like he's not a kid anymore.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Not really showing off the UK education he got for
a year.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
He also said he didn't believe in Will Chamberlain kinda
He's like, I've never seen a picture of him, don't
He didn't believe in Will Chamberlain, Like does he think
that we just made Wilt Chamberlain up?

Speaker 7 (28:54):
And at first I think at one point they're like, well,
what year do you not believe in? And I thought
he was gonna go like eighteen hundreds seventeen nineteen fifty.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
I mean, your parents probably aren't that much. They're stillnger.
They're videos of nineteen fifty.

Speaker 7 (29:06):
You understand grandparents that probably remember nineteen fifty.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
We still I mean, television existed in nineteen fifty.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
I look, I'm not trying to break it down too much,
but there is a point where, again you're sort of
in this reality where like you think you can say
things that have no consequences. I mean some people will.
I was looking online. Some people were really offended. I'm
not gonna be really offended, but I'm like Tyler, why
say such really stupid stuff?

Speaker 8 (29:34):
He says, nothing happened after nineteen fifty, before four nineteen fifty.
He doesn't believe anything, but the moon landing was after
nineteen fifty. I just said that Wilt Chamberlain after nineteen fifty.
So I think he needs to understand maybe here's a
time you need to talk and time you.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Have just shut up before nineteen fifty. You're saying all
this stuff happened after nineteen fifty. Regardless, it's a dumb statement.
I have no idea what he even means by that.
You just think the world only started like post nineteen fifty.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
Well, I think he just thinks things happened, but he
doesn't know that they happen.

Speaker 7 (30:04):
He said, how would we know anything before nineteen fifty?
How would we know?

Speaker 4 (30:08):
It? Was his main point.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
Well, but you know, again, let's say I've seen him
talk about God and his belief in God and Jesus.

Speaker 4 (30:18):
I've seen him say.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
That I think that was before nineteen fifty times.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
I mean, someone could go, well, what do you think
about I mean, Jesus was before nineteen fifty, and he'd
probably go, you know, like he'd go, which, like, you know,
I believe in Jesus, in God, but there's a level
of faith. I think you can say that most of
the stuff we read, it's existed for a long time.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
I'll believe it. You don't want to you want to
take to me you don't. How do you believe anything? Tyler?

Speaker 7 (30:49):
Like you're unless you're there. Another one of my favorites.
He said, how do we even know Columbus when he
got to America? Like, how would we know that?

Speaker 5 (30:56):
I don't know, record know, wikiped we're probably giving him
way too much analysis more than he is, Aidan Ross
live stream. But it wasn't the finest moment for you know,
when you're going these are student athletes.

Speaker 7 (31:13):
Well, I'm down for some conspiracy theories, but that one
he was that was even too far, too far from
a couple of though. Yeah, maybe some of those I'll
meet him in the middle, but nothing before nineteen fifty.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
Jordan's go ahead, Jordan.

Speaker 15 (31:28):
Yeah, So I was just thinking, man, like, do you
think that we'll see more guys like alumni guys start
maybe coming back around campus now? The popes back, I
mean guys like Anthony Davis and.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
Well, I mean those guys, do you mean more than when?

Speaker 15 (31:47):
Maybe just since like you know, like the recent when
Cow started John Waller, John Watson been very consistent about
showing up the games. I know he's not been playing,
but he's always been able to make time and just
shove up to the fan base. I mean, I'd like
to see guys like Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
Oh, so you're saying you are you?

Speaker 5 (32:04):
Are you saying like in year two of Pope, you're
hoping to see more Cow guys come back?

Speaker 4 (32:08):
Is that what you mean?

Speaker 14 (32:10):
Well, just maybe you know, Yeah, I'm just being a
little bit more out spoken about you know, the college
and maybe even come back and do some workouts with
the guys or something.

Speaker 15 (32:21):
You know, just just having.

Speaker 14 (32:22):
Them back around I think would be huge.

Speaker 4 (32:24):
Well, I think I've.

Speaker 5 (32:25):
Been surprised that that's been as positive as it has.
I mean, I appreciate the calling me. Wall did an
interview just with me last week in which he said
he was coming to work out with UH, with the
UK guys, you know. I mean we've heard everybody from
you know, Devin Booker to Carl Towns to UH to
Anthony Davis make positive comments about Mark Pope. I mean,

(32:47):
one of my biggest worries about Cow being gone was
would we lose all those guys and Ryan. I feel
like it's been the opposite. I've been pleasant. There's I
don't know that I've seen anybody take the view of
I'm not a Kentuck anymore.

Speaker 10 (33:01):
No.

Speaker 8 (33:01):
I think last summer the TVT guys were a big
thing that kind of changed that. You know, Pope took
his entire team to watch the TVT guys play. The
TVT guys were working out with Pope's players. I think
they did a lot to devond that bridge between those
two eras.

Speaker 7 (33:15):
Yeah, I mean the bigger issues they're still playing. So
that's why Walls just now doing. Harrison's just not doing.
I mean, these guys weren't coming back for cal either.
They're the ones we want to see the most in
the middle of their NBA careers, and they're just not
gonna come said they wouldn't no or like that. They
I've seen nothing but good. I mean, Hope took the picture.

Speaker 5 (33:34):
With Rob Dillingham Willie on our show while you Were
Gone last summer during the tvt he was like, oh,
I'm all blue, like I want nothing to do with Arkansas.
And that was the only person I can remember who
even went to Arkansas was Milik, but he's from Arkansas,
so he's probably there being at home. And then was like,
all right, I'll go see coach. I guess Tyler elis.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
A little different job. But I mean I understand that.
I don't. I don't. I don't really hold that again.

Speaker 7 (34:00):
I think those guys will be coming back as their
careers die down, though.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
I totally, I totally. It looks you only have one home,
right and Cali is gonna be in Arkansas forever. So
they're not gonna make that their home. I mean, this
is their home, and they'll they'll, you know, life is long,
and you end up going back to your home. A
five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Couple
open lines, a little slow on the regular phones, but
if you want to host us, operator is standing by,
Billy eight five nine four to two two three two

(34:27):
nine nine. Will take a break and be right back. It'
skisr good sn pick. I love Sam Cook. Good call.
You know Sam Cook, Mario you do well. I mean
you don't always know much past about two thousand, so
I just wondered if you God, I'm glad you know
Sam Cook. That's good stuff. A five nine two eight

(34:47):
oh twenty two eighty seven. Remember if you want to
host us in northern Kentucky A five nine four two
two three two nine nine. I want to play something
for you really quick. I love this. You know, they
had the military parade in Washington, right I was I
was kind of like very worried about that, and then
it looked like it was just like didn't seem like
that big deal ultimately, but the Fox News showed it

(35:12):
right and they had a woman on after it was over, Shannon,
and they were excited, she were excited to have her on.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Oh she's a former.

Speaker 5 (35:18):
Defense intelligence person. Okay, so she's like used to work
for the government, Okay, and I guess she's an expert
on national security. They bring her on and it's nine
thirty at night, And here's all I would say, Drew, Uh,
maybe somebody should have like vetit her before they had
her on.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Maybe a conversation. Maybe there's a conversation because it's a
little late at night.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
You know, it's been a day to party to celebrate
tow hundred, the anniversary of the Army, right, so maybe
just say, okay, let's see if she's all right.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
I wouldn't have gone on the air at nine pm
last week when I was out and joined by exactly
so Shannon. Here was the beginning of her interview, a
little bit, maybe a little abriated.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
Go ahead, maybe lits And the messaging that we saw
here tonight from the Commander in chief on the Army's
two hundred and fiftieth birthday.

Speaker 16 (36:03):
I am so excited.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Emily and.

Speaker 16 (36:09):
Lucas, Tomlinson, everybody like this is incredible. Finally, the United
States is back. I want to really thank all of
our Army, Navy, and Air Force officers who have been

(36:30):
sacrificing their lives, literally, their families have been contributed to
the mission most of the time for the past quarter
of a century because of the mismanagement of the the

(36:51):
administrative States.

Speaker 14 (36:53):
They've been citing.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
The more they let her go for three or four minutes,
I got like another forty seconds.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
They cut her off here.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Eventually, Oh, go to the inn where they cut her off.
I want to hear the cutoffs.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
Just keep it rolling.

Speaker 16 (37:07):
Our new in chief, donad Jane Trump. They are provertising
Donna Donald, thank these offices for all of these sacrifices
and all to get in there that their families coming.

Speaker 11 (37:24):
Do them.

Speaker 16 (37:25):
Lawrence Jones, you are doing You're racking man.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Like you guys in pray.

Speaker 15 (37:32):
Lucas, thank you.

Speaker 16 (37:34):
I want to thank.

Speaker 6 (37:36):
Well so much.

Speaker 14 (37:38):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (37:41):
Heartbreak, heartbreak.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
A minute after the interview starts, break real quick, Donna Trump.

Speaker 8 (37:51):
A little bit of a thick tongue going on there.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Dude, I love it.

Speaker 5 (37:54):
Who's Donna Jane Donna Jane.

Speaker 6 (37:57):
Lucas, Jane Camp. She kept saying, yeah, wonderful fell and
the Army.

Speaker 4 (38:06):
I love that. Let's have her on more longer. Shit it.
I want to hear her analysis.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Ratings to go up. Who wouldn't watch that?

Speaker 5 (38:15):
I wasn't going to play any of the commentary besides that,
So maybe maybe it works.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
Let's go to free bird. What's up? Free bird?

Speaker 11 (38:23):
Hey guys, great Monday.

Speaker 12 (38:25):
Hey true glad your back.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Sakes man, Thank you very much, glad to be back.

Speaker 12 (38:30):
Have we heard any preseason picks for uh louisvill in
the A C C.

Speaker 5 (38:36):
And the reason I have that.

Speaker 12 (38:37):
Is I know the ACC is nothing compared to SEC.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
So I mean, are they picked from the top tier?

Speaker 12 (38:45):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (38:45):
Yeah, I think they're picked to I think they people
think they'll be. Yeah, I appreciate the cause I think
they're going to be second or third in the ACC.
I think Clemson's a favorite, but they're probably picked right
there below them, second, third, something like that.

Speaker 7 (39:00):
Yeah, looking up on the fly, there's Varius quite a bit,
but the Miami and SMU up there with them to one.
I'm looking at as fourth, one s third, So they're
in that top tier.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
Yeah, which you know that. But they were good last year,
I mean, like you know, they were what nine and.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
Three last year or something.

Speaker 5 (39:15):
I mean, they were they were so so yeah, they're
going to be Canal. What would they have be in
this conference five and seven?

Speaker 8 (39:21):
There were obviously a lot of Louisville fans listening to
our show the other day because they want practed us
pretty quickly on.

Speaker 5 (39:26):
Yeah, you know, they correct to say, we're like Jones said,
we didn't play Clemson.

Speaker 6 (39:30):
We beat Clemson.

Speaker 5 (39:31):
Okay, well you're right, sorry, mess that one up. You
did play Clemson. Uh, that's nice. You did lose to Stanford,
which I believe that was the only game they won
all year was the game against you.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
So say, lovey, there you go. Dennis in Richmond. What's up? Dennis? Hey?

Speaker 5 (39:48):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (39:49):
Two quick questions and I'll get off there. Number one, Uh,
what do you think about the proposal entertainments center around
Covido and any words on who it's gonna be A
ukn't going to have a general manerger as Vince as
a position of Vince.

Speaker 12 (40:09):
Is going to have it.

Speaker 5 (40:10):
Both good questions. Those are good questions. Let's start with that.
We didn't talk about this. Kentucky is part of their
appreciate the call Dannis as part of the proposal to
the Board of Trustees asked to study, they didn't ask
to get approved. Study the idea of an entertainment district
around right around Kroger Field. I didn't love it for

(40:31):
the ks bar purposes, but let me take my self
interest out of the way. Do you like the idea
of an entertainment district around Ukrogerfield. I don't know where
they're going to put it, but let's just say they
were to do it.

Speaker 7 (40:43):
Yeah, Krogerfield needs something, and Tennessee's put in a huge
one at Nyland Stadium. I know Kroger Fields not Nayland Stadium,
but they're even upgrading that. As we've seen in years past,
the taigating lots have kind of gone away a little bit.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
Even this year.

Speaker 7 (40:55):
They're bringing in corporate tailgates. They need some kind of
something to add to the fan experience over the around
the stadium. I don't even know what it would be.

Speaker 5 (41:02):
How financially it works, like we only have seven games
a year, Like there's no parking. I guess, I guess
there would be parking if you have to. Similarly, you're
gonna lose some parking to put that up, Yes, you would.

Speaker 4 (41:13):
Yeah, the difference to.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
Tennessee is their basketball stadiums in the same spot share it.

Speaker 5 (41:18):
And then it's a place where people already go. That's
a part of Nicholsville Road that's not easy to get to.
You know, in theory, it's a good idea. I just
don't know how financially. And you're gonna take more parking away, Yeah,
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
Maybe.

Speaker 8 (41:32):
I mean, you know, we talk to those people at
green Bay. Green Bay's got that kind of that district.
But they said they only use it eight times a
year pretty much. That's about it. Eight times a year
it gets full.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
Yeah, that's the packers. Yeah. Is it a cool idea?

Speaker 5 (41:47):
Yes, I don't I don't know how it works there though,
because I don't know, going.

Speaker 6 (41:51):
To make all your money on eight Sundays.

Speaker 5 (41:54):
Yeah, well hopefully Saturdays. If they made them on Sunday,
it would be hard. They've got to have big church services.

Speaker 7 (41:59):
But maybe you use with a baseball too, But even that,
that's not a huge crowd. Now you put it over
there in the whole between all the complexes.

Speaker 5 (42:04):
They're going to study it. Maybe they come up with
something that makes a lot of sense. I just don't

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
