All right, good morning ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls, Grandpa's, grandma's,
aunts and uncles, all you crazy any people in Big
Blue Nation? Ryan Lemon here for this Tuesday edition of
Kentucky Sports Radio is Tuesday, July sixteenth. It is Wednesday,
July sixteenth. My goodness, Shannon, I'm already a day behind. Yeah,
been a long week already. So as always our Kitecky
Sports Radio sponsor by the t J Smith Lobbas called TJ.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
What happens, Shan, He'll make them pay.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
He'll make them pay.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
We'll have our Whiskey Thief call today, which may be
kind of tough because we only got a couple segments
on the show. We're gonna take some phone calls on
the Clarks Pumping Shop phone line eight five nine two
A two two eight seven eight five nine two eight
Oh cats, if you want to call and get on
board today. And also the Avis and Glass Tex machine
is is my cell phone this week. So, uh, we
got kind of a fun show planned. We did this
(01:21):
last year, Shannon, when we brought on all the TBT
guys and talk to every single one of them. It
works so well, We're gonna do it again this year.
And why not do it today when it is the
slowest sports day of the year.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
I mean, there's nothing going on.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
So we're gonna have four guys today, four guys tomorrow,
and I think even two or three guys on Friday,
the game day. They're gonna come in here before game
on Friday. So today, in the first hour, we've got
DeAndre Leggins and Drawn Lamb, and the second hour will
be Anthony Aminor and Khalil Whitney. So I'm really kind
of excited to talk to all four of those guys. Today,
(01:57):
tvt Week comes at a perfect time for us, give
us something to talk about, get excited about it. And
with such a huge success last year, I'm kind of
excited about the tournament this year.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Shannon, Oh, I am too. It was a lot of
fun last year.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
I think.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
You know, anytime you get to talk about Kentucky versus
Lobell in the middle of the summer, that's always fun.
And you know, yesterday we were talking about our all
Time starting five and we had that one caller that
says that Liggings and Lamb should be the Locks and
the all Times starting five. I don't know if I
can agree with with that caller, but we got both
of them here with well with you, I'm in the studio,
(02:29):
but with you today on the show. By the way,
how's KOs Bar looking right now? You know, we're in
the middle of that update for the bar. How's it looking?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
We are on the patio of KS Bar and Grill
where it is completely bare. They've taken out the hostess stand,
all the tables, chairs, everything completely beround the patio and inside.
As soon as you go on the front door, we've
moved the host stand from outside of the patio to
as soon as you come in on the front door
on your right hand side, so there's a lot of
space right now. They're trying to clean things that cause
(02:58):
are going to redo the floors this week, and they
just warned me they're gonna be redoing the force tomorrow
while we're here at KOs Bar uh doing the show.
So maybe uh, maybe quite loud tomorrow doing that. But
Drew and Abby, Abby and I were here over the
weekend kind of moving some pictures and trying to think
of some different things to do, trying to get somewhat
of a different look for the relaunch. We wanted to
(03:19):
kind of have a new, updated, different look as well,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
I'm excited about the new food menu items that we
tried out. That's gonna be really exciting and looking forward
to everybody trying those when we've reopened. I wanted to
ask you, though, do you have your paint brush ready?
Because Matt has already said that he's gonna have you
up on that roof painting the roof blue. Do you
have your paint picked out or your your paint brush
ready to go?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
We looked at what he was talking about I had
never noticed it ever in the six years we've had open,
I've never noticed that roof. And that may be a
a landlord situation. That's not a chs Bar situation. I
don't think that's the awning on over our building.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I think it's a Ryan lemon in situations.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
For Yeah, and it also connects to our neighbors next door.
We just to do half of it blue, then it
goes back to green faded.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Green's terrible. No, we can't do that.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yeah, Drew and I looked at it.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
We're like, that may be something that, uh, we need
to be discussed in future Chaos Bar meetings, what we're
going to do with that up there?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
So well, that look, I think you're just trying to
get out of having to get up on a roof
and paint. I am you know what, I don't blame you.
I wouldn't want to be up there either. He mentioned
my name, and I'm going, that's what you think. I'm
not getting up on that roof. Not that's not happening here.
But so we're well on our way to reopening in
the next yes, a couple of months now.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
We're looking for mid to late March.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
April, August, April, March April, which one is it. We'll
be opened by August, Okay, I think we'll all go
over getting ready by the end.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Now we've got just a kind of a short segment
here because Deron and DeAndre are on their way. They're
going to join us at ten fifteen. So a couple
things I want to talk to about, Shannon. Rely, for
the first time maybe in the history this show, in
the fourteen year history of this show, I want to
be our first topic that you and I talk about.
The Major League Baseball All Star Game. Yeah, I know
nobody cares it's an All Star game.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
It's lost its luster.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
But last night, finishing in a six to six tie
at the end of nine innings, they did something I
didn't even know. They put in place where they have
a basically a home run derby swing off to determine
the winner.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Of the All Star Game.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
And Shannon, I was more into that than any Major
League Baseball All Star Game since Pete Rose bowled over
Ray Fosse.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
I mean, I think it was what baseball needed last night.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
First of all, National League, you thought they were gonna
get a win. They were up six to four ninth inning.
You know, they hadn't won a game, and like, what
was it?
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Like?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I think they lost eleven out of twelve games or
ten out eleven twelve. I think, yeah, something like that,
and National League blew it come back and then it's,
you know, tied up, and we're like, okay, ninth inning's over.
What happens now we just call it a tie?
Speaker 5 (06:01):
Right?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Or do we just go to extra innings? No, they
bring out the batting cages and we have an impromptu
home run derby, and I'm going, what is this? I
didn't even know this was a rule. I didn't even
but I feel like this was Major League Baseball's direct
response to the people who say baseball's boring. But who boring?
I can't watch it? Oh yeah, We're just gonna have
a home run derby right in the middle of the
All Star Game. And you know what, I'm fine with
(06:23):
that being the All Star Game. It's all for entertainment anyway.
It doesn't mean anything. They don't even have the home
filled advantage in the World Series anymore. They've gotten no
meaning attached to the All Star Game, So I'm fine
with them settling it that way. I just didn't even
know that that's the way that they were going to
do it.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
You know, I didn't need it, never even heard it
made the All Star Game fun again. I think having
something like that, I mean the anticipation, I mean, Kyle
Schwarber steps up and he acts like he's Babe Ruth
and hits through three swings, three home runs kind of
sent it for the National League. You know, soccer goes
to penalty kicks at the end of a tie the
Ryder Cup. You know, they sit out their three best
(06:59):
guys when it's a tie. I heard you ability to
debate this, and I'm kind of on your side about this.
I don't want to use it in to, you know,
solve a regular season game, but for an All Star game,
I loved it.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
I thought it was perfect.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, I'm good with it in the All Star Game again.
But Billy was trying to make the argument that we
should have every regular season baseball game be like this,
and I go, you know, we've already made a mockery
of it enough as we're putting ghost runners out on
second base to start the tenth inning, which I think
is crazy. But whatever, I can live with that. But
you know, the home run derby at the end of
(07:33):
the All Star Game. That's fine, but you can't have
that in the regular season. At that point, you're just
changing the game entirely.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
So yeah, well, I had a good move by Major
League Baseball, got some interest in it again, got some
interesting in at All Star Game that nobody really cared about, right,
And I thought it was a great idea. I don't
want to see it in regular season. But then again,
I don't like him putting a runner on second base
because you know what, if a guy has a no
hitter through nine innings, he goes out to the tenth inning,
a runner is already on second base. Yeah, him over
(08:00):
to third. No, that's not a hit. Sacrifice fly scores him.
That's not a hit, and then he strikes out, so
he gets out of the ending.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
But they's nowadyn. Now he's behind one to nothing, he's
got a no hitter.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Well yeah, but I mean, like, when's the last time
you saw a guy throw ten innings? You know what
I'm saying, Gibson exactly. So I mean my point is
like they won't even like I was watching an old
uh uh it was. I think it was like ninety two,
and Doug Drebeck for the Pirates was throwing one hundred
and thirty two pitching up. I'm going there's no way
(08:29):
that would ever happen in today's game. They just you know,
they're gonna pull the pitcher even if he was throwing
a no hitter through nine innings, you know which, I
guess that in that game the score out to be
zero to zero, you're not going to see that. So
the scenario that you laid out, I don't think is
very likely to ever happen, like, especially in today's game.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Do you like those soccer they do penalty kicks at
the end of games in you know, the regular season,
the playoffs, whatever it is, they go to penalty kicks.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Like sudden death, right. I don't watch enough soccer to
really have a strong opinion on it, but you know,
I'm fine with that. But know baseball, it was fun
for the All Star Game. Let's just leave it as
it is for the regular season game though.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
So, as we said as TBT Day, the TBT guys
play on Friday night just Shannon and I here. Billy
will join us for the second hour. But a couple
of things, A couple of housekeeping things I want to
take care of first. Everybody, when you say your prayers tonight,
your thoughts and prayers, remember Drew and Drew's mom. That's
why Drew's off today. She's got some medical issues she's
(09:27):
dealing with. I'll let him explain if he wants to.
He can explain it when he comes back. But just
know that Drew and his family and his mom and
dad and sister, they need us. They need us right now.
So remember the Franklin family and your prayers for sure
and uh and this something personally, I was blown away
last night. The ladies of KSR for the second time
(09:49):
have come to my rescue, and I am just I'm
a lot all lost for words because thank you is
not near enough. You know, everybody thinks this of KSR
is just a Facebook group. They're more a lot more
than a Facebook group. They they they reach out and
help people that are part of Big Blue Nation, and
(10:11):
they show a lot of love and compassion and just
on behalf of Josiah. I mean when I'm when my
house caught on fire, Slaves of KSR stepped up and
just went way above and beyond taking care of.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Some things for Josiah and that he lost in the fire,
and and now they've they've done it again.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Shannon, I mean, it's just blows my mind how thoughtful
and compassionate and loving these ladies are. And I know
some of them personally, some of them I've never met.
Most of them i've never met, and what they did
last night just totally just blew me away. And I
can say I can't say thank you enough. It's just
it knowing, just know that you've earned your wings. God
(10:54):
bless each and every one of you. And I'm very,
very very thankful.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Yeah, they're the absolute best. When my grandmother passed away,
they were there. They're like a big support group. So yeah,
it's a good way to put a big thank you
to the ladies of KSR for everything that they do.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
All Right, we'll take our early break.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
The guys are allegedly en route, I think, Shannon, though
Durant Lamb's kind of famous for oversleeping. Oh yeah, I
think there's a story where he was in an NBA
tryout and he was in the hotel and he overslept
and missed the tryout.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
I think there's some kind of story like.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
That that wouldn't happen again, though that wouldn't happen today.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
It wouldn't happen again.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
But apparently there's gonna be like a shuttle bringing two
guys and then bringing the other two guys, and then
tomorrow is Willie Coley Stein, the Harrison Twins and somebody else.
I can't remember who he did, Okay, but one guy
we won't have is Jesser.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Oh that's a shame.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah, I know, Shannon, you're really disappointed that Jesser I
won't make the trip and be he was gonna come
on the show with us. I mean that's what I think.
That was more exciting than him playing in the tournament.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Do you think that maybe he realized that he was
going to have to talk to the world avweight radio
champion and goes, you know what, this isn't worth it.
This guy apparently doesn't want me to be on the team.
I'm just gonna step away right now. You think maybe
that's what happened until today he was listening.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Yeah, I heard you talking some smack, even when he
partly shanning the dude. But apparently there were some scheduling
issues with him, and uh, he's not gonna be here
from where they replaced him with Marquise Warwick, who's uh
Henry Clay alum, leading scorer in Henry Clay history. I
went to Northern Kentucky for like three years, four years,
and then finished up at Missouri last year.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
I would say that's a good upgrade.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Oh, you got a guy that can flat out play
against a guy that could play pickup ball in somebody's driveway.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Who you gonna take? He's gonna take Marquise Warwick.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Yeah, I mean in all seriousness though, Like what, like
I gave a strong opinion on what I thought about
bringing on influencers on the TBT team, Like, what's your
honest opinion on it? Like you do you like that
they were trying to bring on a YouTube guy to
be on the TVT or you like me and you're like,
this is ridiculous. What are we doing. We're trying to
win this thing. Why are we bringing on influencers?
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Well, they weren't obviously bringing him on to help the
team and be a contributor. They were bringing him on
for the publicity, the social media content, trying to give
the TVT team some exposure.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
They're give him a journey though they exposure a spot
on the roster though. They're not just bringing him in
to hang out with the crew and be like a manager.
They're putting him on the roster.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Yeah, he wasn't gonna play. I mean he played very,
very very little. But I think they were just looking
for that publicity content because the dude does a lot
of like basketball type videos and things like he had
ten year olds playing to get seventy year olds in
a video.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
So that's what they were looking at.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
So from that aspect, if we knew upfront, hey, we're
not counting on this guy to help us, we're just
counting on him for some pr just be flat out
up front about it, I think I'd be okay with it.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, Like I guess you'd be surprised as to how
many people watch a video of a guy sitting on
a bench. True, it doesn't sound like anything I would
watch on YouTube. But the guy, you know, he's very
successful on YouTube, you know, and you know it's great.
But I just think it's crazy that they're trying to
put him on a roster for something like this.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Because last night I was talking to a group of
college kids. There were probably six or seven, maybe eight
of them. Yeah, and we were talking about it. Every
single one of them knew who he was, and every
single one of them had watched these videos. And I'm like,
I had no clue who he was until they announced
he was on the team.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah, but I mean, I know who a lot of
people are, you know, like I know who Samuel L.
Jackson is. But I don't want about there balling for
Kentucky and the TVT Come on.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Man, that'd be cool if Samuel Jackson was on the team.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
No, it would be like a uniform. I don't think
he can go out. He's gonna get dunked on if
he goes out there.
Speaker 7 (14:37):
You know.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
But he's on the team.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Let's go see. You're not helping me argument team photo.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Make him on the poster, so no, Jesser, all right,
we'll take our break, come back. Hopefully the guys will
show up here pretty soon. I keep looking around, get
my head on a swivel, but I don't see him yet.
We were live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill.
The guys will be here. I know some some people
I think are maybe once autographs and things if they
want to come by. I'm sure the guys will be
(15:02):
good about it. I mean they were great when they
were here last year at the restaurant. If you got
something you want them to sign. We got Deron and
DeAndre the first hour, and then Khalil Whitney and Ansley
Amino the second hour. If you want to get him
to sign some I'm sure they will. All right, Well,
take our break, come back. Eight five nine two A
two two eight seven. That's the Clark's Puppy Shop phone number.
Ryan and Shannon. Only no Matt, no Drew, no Billy,
no Mario. You got the two old guys, Ryan Shannon.
(15:25):
We're right back. This is can Taking Sports Radio. Welcome
back Taking Sports Radio live on the patio Chaos Bar
and Grill, Ryan and Shannon today on this uh wacky
Wednesday edition of KOs Bar. Because most of the guys
are gone on vacation, a little time off before football
season starts. So we're waiting on Doron Lamb and DeAndre Liggins.
So we do have a phone call if you want
to call, get on board now. We'll go ahead and
(15:45):
take some calls. Eight five nine two A two two
eight seven. That's the phone number Clarks Puppy Shop phone number.
So who we got Shannon.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Let's go to Adam.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Adam, go ahead at him.
Speaker 7 (15:56):
Hey, guys, first of all, I think we should settle
any at tag game after none nings.
Speaker 8 (16:01):
What does time a donut eating contest? How many time
you get down and fifteen?
Speaker 5 (16:07):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
That's a great I know what that is. That's our
whiskey thief not call today. Thank you and I appreciate
that's what Shannon I mentioned. I was a talk to
some college kids last night. I was at the Legends game.
Uh about several Legends games this summer. I'm the guy
when they say let's.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Go down on the field for the Disney bat Rays
with Ryan Lemon. So I'm that guy down on the
field them the MC Yeah. Yeah. So how many times?
Speaker 3 (16:34):
How many people do you think came up to me
and talk to me about eating donuts?
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Probably ever higher?
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Higher?
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Make a guess higher or lower?
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Hire make a guess you higher?
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Do you have an actual number?
Speaker 4 (16:49):
It was I'm over one hundred over and I am
not exaggerating.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
It was everybody, you're right, little donuts taste and sorry
you didn't make to eat the donuts Like I don't know,
I'm a complete failure.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
So do you do that? Do you do that at
every Legends game or just no?
Speaker 3 (17:05):
I do, like just a couple of months. I think
I've done maybe six this summer right now. I got
a couple more coming up. So yeah, actually I enjoy it.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
It's kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
I got something I want to tell you about that
and just Adams still with us both. I don't know,
did Adam, Adam? Did you have a question?
Speaker 7 (17:22):
Oh yeah, I actually wanted to. You know, we're talking
with Myron about the all time you know Wildcats and
I don't believe this to be true, but just wanted
to throw this out there that you can make the
case that big nausey. I mean, three final fours, two
national championships, spent eighteen years in the NBA, that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Yeah, I appreciate phone call, Adam.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
I mean we were trying to just look at guys
just what they do, what they did at Kentucky. That's why,
you know, Shay Gildes just can't be on our all
time Starry five, even though he's gonna end up being
maybe the greatest pro of the cal era him or
ad one or the other. So you know, Nazi Wayne Turner,
Cameron Mills, Jeff Shephard, Scott Paget. These guys that went
to won two championships and went to three straight final fours,
(18:10):
you can't deny that. But do they end up on
our all time starting five? Shannon, I don't know. I
don't think I can make that argument.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I mean, Kentucky is so hard to go through all
the great players and if you're looking at what they
just did at Kentucky and you're right, you made this
point yesterday. I thought it was a good point. It
kind of depends on like when these guys come in,
Like John Wall coming in right after the Gillespie era
was huge for Kentucky, right Mashburn coming in, you know
after Eddie Sutton and being on probation and everything. So
(18:40):
a lot of that too. Like how we remember remember
these players has to do with when they came in.
You know, they came in when the program needed a boost.
And I think that's the case for Wall and Mashburn
and their respective eras playing here at Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
You're exactly right.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
They came along and helped revive the program when the
program needed the most. Those two guys, you can't take
that away because, like we said, you look at just
if you're looking at just numbers, Well, Brandon Knight had
better numbers than John Wall.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Dearon Fox had better numbers than John Wall. I think even.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Tyler Ulis his sophomore season, had better numbers than John Wall.
But what John Wall meant and stood for in this program,
you can't deny. He is one of the most valuable
Cats of all time.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Yeah. Yeah, there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 9 (19:23):
Now.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I wanted to go back to you were mentioned in
the Legends game. I wanted to tell you they asked
me to throw out the first pitch at the Legends
game on the twenty ninth, So I was wondering if
you were going to be there, maybe doing one of
your MC jobs at.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
The Legend calendar. Yeah see, I didn't know this. Yes,
well no, it's a Tuesday night. I'm gonna request it.
I'm gonna request it. I do Tuesday twenty ninth. There
you go, uh and harass you as you throw out
the first pitch.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
That would be a lot of fun. I mean, I'm
gonna be there regardless, so you know, if you're there too,
that would be a lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Well, last night one of the guys that throughout the
first pitch was Charlie Higginbonham Higginbottom, who's the leader of
the One on one club, And I told him, they said,
what do you do trying just don't bounce it. Don't
bounce it if you have to lob it up there.
Well he lobbed it. Somebody just pulled up with some
Jeff Donuts. Oh god, they're just giving it a thumbs down.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
They're just here to taunt you. Now they are taunted.
They're gonna sit there and eat the donuts right in
your face.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Because Jeff Donuts right here in front of cast bar
and girls. So he got it, and he comes over
here and he's trying to give me a box of
Jeff Donuts. I gave him a big thumb down. I
don't know if I'll ever eat another glazed donut. I
know I'm not gonna eat glazed donut anytime soon, that's
for sure.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
I wanted to ask you about that because I know
people have said, like when they've tried to do competitive
eating that they you know, you just get sick off
of it and you don't ever want to eat it again.
And I was wondering if if you're like that with
you know that particular donut, or is it just glazed
donuts or is it donuts in general that you just
don't want to even think about now because you did
(20:53):
that contest.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
I can't quit donuts cold, I can't. But I can't
quit I can't quit you. But I could quit glaze donuts.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
I don't. There's no I am.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
I am not gonna eat a glaze donut for a
long time unless it's like Spauldings. I can eat a
Spaldings glazed donut, and I could eat like, you know,
I like apple fritters, and I like Long John's that
or stuff with cream, don't you know that kind of stuff?
But I no way I can eat a glaze donut.
I can't even think about eating a glaze donut. Well,
because I think I told you guys this on Monday.
I threw them up. I laid down after you guys left,
(21:25):
and my stomach started doing cartwheels and I threw them up.
So I'm like, there's no way I want any part
of a glazed donut.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
But you eat a Long John though we can call you.
We call you Long John.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
Ryan now that's what they call me anyway.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Eight five nine two two eight seven. I didn't finish
my story. Abou Charlie Higginbottom. I told him. He said,
whatever you do, don't bounce it. Just don't boustle. I said,
just lob it. Just don't want to bounce it. Well
he lobbed it, but he loved it so high it
bounced at home plate right before it got to the catcher.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
No, a lot of that's on the catcher too. Are
you throwing to an axual catcher or are you throw
into like a mascot, Because when I'm thrown out the
first pitch, just for like the lubble bats, you're throwing
to the mascot.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Well, this is a player, but he's like a pitcher
who is not, you know, like a starting pitcher that
pitched two days ago, you know, not gonna be in
the game today.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
So you pitch, you throw it to a real player.
But it's not the starting catcher or anything.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
They putting a lot of trust out there, you know,
and my my fastball, and they're putting their their starting
pitcher out there. I mean, I wouldn't want to injure anybody,
you know.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
They may sign you on the spot starting rotation.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
That's exactly what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
So it's the July twenty night, Shannon, the dude throwing
out the first pitch at the Legends game. I'm gonna
make sure I'm working that night so I can harass
you and make fun of you the whole night. So
you know, there weren't a bunch of people there last night.
It was two dollars Tuesday. They get They're getting good
crowds again over the Legends Ballpark, so it is kind
of fun.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Shannon.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
You'll have a good time that night.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
I've never actually been to a Legends game, so that'll
be my first. Looking forward to doing that, and we'll
see you there on the twenty ninth.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
I got a couple more Legend stories we'll tell later,
but we're still waiting on Deron Lamb and DeAndre Leggans,
all points building out.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
We'll be right back. This is Take a Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them
pay now more Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Welcome back.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
I know those of you listening on podcasts won't be
able to appreciate what we're hearing right now. Darius Rucker
singing Wagon Wheel just the best singer in the history
of country music, singing Wagon Wheel, Shanon, I gotta admit
my heart went out to Darius. You know, he and
I were born the same year. He just had a birthday,
So my birthday's coming up next month. We're getting up
there a little a in our age a little bit, yeh.
(23:33):
But he actually, for the first time in his career,
while on stage after singing wagon Wheel, told the crowd, guys,
I just can't do it.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
I've lost my voice.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
I thought I could pull through, but he stabbed his
step off the stage for the first time without completing
a concert.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
My heart goes out to Darius.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
Man.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Yeah, you know, some nights you just don't have the fastball.
Some nights it's just not working for you for whatever reason.
But he did say that he was issuing refunds, which
is the right move to make. But yeah, I'm sure
it was a disappointing for everybody who you know. You know,
you got to think about when you go to a concert.
A lot of people are coming from out of town
and they're getting hotel rooms and it's more than just
showing up and you know, watching a concert, it's like
(24:11):
a full on event for a lot of people. So yeah,
I hate that that happened, but you know it's it's live,
and I at least commend him for trying, and he's
not going up there and just phoning it in like
a lot of musicians do today, and you know, use
backing vocals that aren't really theirs, and you know, half
of what you're hearing he really isn't live, you know,
least at least he gave it an effort. You know,
(24:32):
he couldn't get through it, but he tried.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
I want to say this too.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Back in two thousand and one, maybe two thousand and two,
when Hoody and Blowfish was still doing shows, they did
a show downtown Lexton at the Kentucky Theater and it's
the only time I've seen Hoodie the Blowfish live. And
they said before the show that Darius was had an
IV that morning. He was so sick, so dehydrated that
before he flew out of Charleston he had an IV
(24:59):
and it was take meds the whole day. Well, of
course he gets on stage and he goes man, you know,
I'm in Kentucky. I've been sick all day. Bourbon's my
only medication tonight. So we started slamming bourbon. Yeah, and
but he finished the show. Maybe that's the secret, Darius,
Maybe you should have just started slamming Kentucky bourbon while
you're on the stage. I think it was in like
New Jersey or New York or something.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Yeah. I mean, you know, these guys are a human
just like the rest of us. Sometimes we have to
call in sick. When you're a musician, you're on the road,
sometimes you got to call in second. It's just, you know,
it happens.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
We got a couple of callers we're gonna get to
in just second. Here on the car's published our phone line.
But Corey Price sent us the stat Shannon. The last
time a pitcher in the big leagues through at least
ten innings in a regular season Major League Baseball game
was in twenty twelve. A guy named Cliff Lee. I
don't even know who that is.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Cliff Lee. Yep, sounds familiar.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
You know, But he used to be regular where a
starter would go a full nine innings. Now a guy
goes six and they yanke him out of there, But
the last time somebody went into the tenth inning was
in twenty twelve.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
And I don't think we'll ever see it again. I
think so much of an emphasis on pitch count now
they're counting pitches instead of the innings.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Eight five, nine, two, two eighty seven. Who you got chanting?
Speaker 2 (26:08):
All right, let's go to court.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Court, Go ahead, court.
Speaker 8 (26:12):
Hey.
Speaker 10 (26:12):
I thought you guys did a fine job doing the
donut eating contest, especially the way y'all were commentating while
Ryan was eating them. It was almost like watching a
sporting event or something. But the next challenge y'all got
to do is a hot pepper challenge.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Yeah, Ryan, that's next for you. Get your hot peppers ready.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
First of all, I like hot peppers. I can't eat
hot peppers. I can't do it. That's one thing I
cannot do is eat a hot pepper or hot food
like that.
Speaker 10 (26:40):
Yeah, i'd like to see all y'all try to do
the hot pepper challenge. That's that's the next one of.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah, I think that's a hard note for me. You
know who loves hot stuff though, is our boy Matt.
I think you know he's the guy. Yeah, he won't
do any kind of challenge. But if he were to
do it, I feel like that's one that maybe he would,
you know, be suited for.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
And he's the He's the one guy of my friends
that would win. I got a couple of friends that
like really hot stuff. Matt's one of those guys that
I think could do it.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
I like it a little bit hot, but when it
gains so much to the point to where it's like
literally burning your tongue in your mouth, it's uncomfortable at
that point, and I'm going, Okay, I don't enjoy this anymore.
So I like a little bit of hot, but I
can't get like you get into the ghost pepper and
that level of hot. It's it's where that's where I
check out.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
My son, Josiah loves it. He'll sit there and eat
something so hot that his mouth is open and he's
drinking like crazy, and then go take another bite. Yeah,
he loves it.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Like if it's so hot that I've got to drink
milk just to be able to, you know, get it down,
it's not enjoyable, So I'm.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Not doing it.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Who's our next college instead of John?
Speaker 4 (27:43):
John? Go ahead, John, How you doing guys? How you
doing John, I'm doing good.
Speaker 8 (27:52):
I wanted to bring up Brick Chapman, the kid as
one of the top Kentucky players. He was only at
Kentucky two years and he also played small forward Devonder
and James Blackman playing alongside him, and they weren't a
great team really, you know. But Chapman scored twenty six Louisville,
(28:17):
and I think if he woul a stayed all four years,
he broke a lot of scoring records. And another guy
I wanted to mention that won't be in anybody's top
five and never consid he loved is Chiefs Bogans just
because he was ahead of a scorer and never gets
any attention. So I wanted to bring him up.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Appreciate that. Yeah, we did talk about Bogans.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
He's the leading scoring guard in Kentucky basketball history, which
is crazy.
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
But Rex, I'll say this about Rex Shannon. He was
maybe the biggest rock star during the season we've ever had.
Him and John Wall were rock stars. I mean, it
was so exciting. When he picked Kentucky over Louisville. They
called it Rexington. They sold shirts that said Rexington, and
(29:04):
then when he left, they sold shirts said Young and
the reckless he's If I had to rank rock stars,
Rex is probably top of the list.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Then if you're Rex Chapman, you have to be thinking,
looking at today's world of college sports, going man, how
much NIL money I would have made? I imagine the
deals that he would have gotten if nil existed back then.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
I think the guys who had been been of the
most Rex and Richie Farmer, those two guys would have
just killed it in the NIL world if they were
still playing a two tweets seven. We got another call Shannon,
who is all right, let's go to Tim.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Tim.
Speaker 9 (29:39):
Go ahead, Tim, Hey, guys, uh, you guys tested on
something earlier. That's going to happen from us tomorrow. My
daughter gets to throw out the first pitch at the
Legends game, nice through the Dream Factory and make a
Wish foundation. She survived cancer at nine months old.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
Wow.
Speaker 9 (30:00):
So yeah, she's nine and she plays softball and.
Speaker 11 (30:06):
I was in the Marines.
Speaker 9 (30:08):
But I tell everybody sees my heron but one of
the things, wait.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Hold on one second, tell her, tell her, tell her
to scoot up. She didn't have to throw from the
pitching rubber.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Oh scooed up.
Speaker 9 (30:21):
She can make it from there. She can make it
from there, but yeah, we're going to have her screwed
up a little bit. Yeah, but with the starting five,
I don't think there's any way that you can do
that for a team like Kentucky unless you break it
down by decade.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 9 (30:42):
In my opinion, there's only maybe four schools in the
entire country that has that problem. In Kentucky is at
the top of that list.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Amen.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Yeah, appreciate the phone call.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Yeah, I mean, that's that's what That's why, you know,
it kind of hard for us yesterday, just spitball in
different guys because you can go a bunch of different ways.
Maybe doing it by decades is the best thing, and
you pick the best player from each decade. And maybe
I I saw somebody say make that you're starting five.
But it's just it's just kind of a fun summer
talk topic and it's something that really everybody had an
(31:13):
input on last night.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Yeah, and you know, Myron is doing this for a
bunch of different teams. I would say that this is
probably gonna be the most difficult team for him to
do because Kentucky has so many great players throughout the years.
I mean, most if you go around the country and
most schools, there's a definitive starting five all time. But
Kentucky's just got such a great history and so many
great players. It's it's really hard to narrow it down
to just five guys.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
And you can't just go with the top five leading scores.
I mean it is Isle, Walker, Givens, Bogans, those are
your top four. I think you can't just do that.
You got to see I think what they meant to
the program. That's why I think Mashburn has to be
And you make a good argument about Wall. That's why
Wall would maybe be ahead of guys like you know,
Kyle Macy or Ralph Beard.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Yeah, it felt like Kentucky's back once John Wall, you know,
it all kind of start it with Midnight Madness, right
with the oh yeahn Wall dance and dance. You know,
I'm not putting him on there because he's a great
dance everybody was, you know, a great basketball player. And
I think that the timing has has a lot to
do with that as well.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Eight five nine two two two eighty seven. It's the
car's pumpis shop phone number. I got something now from
the a vision glass text machine. This is from our
buddy Vinnie. Which challenge did you like the best? The
putts or the donuts? Come on, man, come on, Vinnie.
I failed at both of them.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
We gotta find one that you can do, like we
gotta have like the Ryan LeMond Redemption Tour, Like is
there something you could do that you're confident you could
do well?
Speaker 3 (32:33):
I did the push up challenge. I did the running
around Appleby's Legends Ballpark challenge.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Yeah, but what was the push ups? I don't even
remember the push up challenge.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
I think he had people try to guess how many
push ups I could do without stopping. And there was
no money on the line or anything though, No no money
on the line.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
No, okay. So what we found out is that anytime
there's money on the line, you choke literally on donuts.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
I did on the donut.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
I'm if I had one more minute, one more minute,
I think I could have stuffed that last one in
my mouth.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
I don't think he started too slow.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
I just they were so thick and dance I couldn't
chew and swallow those big old things.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Well, the message that everybody was getting I even got
one from my mom. She sent me a text and
the message said, I just feel bad for Ryan, And
that was everybody's response, I just feel bad for Ryan.
So you did get everybody's sympathy for not finishing ten donuts.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
We'll make sure you tell your mom. I said, hey,
what's up? How you doing?
Speaker 2 (33:33):
First of all, you got a girlfriend and my mom
is married. Okay, so what are you doing?
Speaker 5 (33:37):
All right?
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Well, take our break? Guess what still know? Don Dray
Liggins and Doron Lamb. We're live on the patio here
at KOs Bar and grill. Uh now worried about now,
worried about Khalil Whitney And so you know what.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
This reminds me of something you getting stood up. This
reminds me of when they had us do it's just
lunch and they would pair us with like random people
that were, yeah, you're a great match for Cindy over here,
and why don't you go ahead and meet at this
restaurant at this time? And I would show up and
my date never would show up. You're kind of getting
the same treatment that I got for it's just lunch
right now with the basketball players. So now you know
(34:12):
how I felt, and you.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Know what happens on a perfect day.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
When MAT's not here, Drew's not here, Mario's not here,
Billy's not here.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Yet you and I are here. That's all that matters, right.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
It's all matters.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
All that matters.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
There's nothing going on in the sports world right now.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Here's what we gets. Here's the thing. Remember when you
and I did that? You and I had to be
on the air for an hour straight.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Was it that?
Speaker 2 (34:34):
It was at Fort Knox when Drew Knox, Drew and
Matt were jumping from the plane and there was nothing
going on. We couldn't go to a break. We didn't
have any cell phone connection, We couldn't look up like
anything on the internet. That was the worst radio we've
ever done before. But look right now, it's just you
and I. We can go to a break anytime we
want to. Wet. We got the internet. We're good. We're
all good here, dude.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
I'm telling you, that was the worst radio show in
the history of radio. When something went down in the
studio and we couldn't take calls, we couldn't go to break.
We had this talk non stop out in the middle
of bf E and on Fort Knox, waiting on Matt
and Drew to jump out of an airplane.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
I thank you, and I were ready to jump out
of an airplane that day.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
That was awful.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
All right, we'll take let's go ahead, take a break,
give us a call. Today's your day. We'll take your
phone call eight five nine two A two two eight
seven the Clark's Pumping Shop phone number. Ryan and Shannon
and nobody else here on Kentucky's Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan and Shannon.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
I'm here on the patio at KOs Bar and Grill
the TBT guys. Our first two guests have not arrived,
Dron Lamb and DeAndre Liggins, but Khalil Whitney is here.
I'm really anxious to talk to him, Shann. I mean,
it's kind of good to catch up with him and
see what he's been doing. So we'll talk to him
in just a minute. But we've got some phone calls
we want to get you real quick. So who's our
first caller, Shannon?
Speaker 2 (35:48):
All right, let's go to Brad. Brad, Go ahead, Brad.
Speaker 11 (35:52):
Hello, Yeah, the most on the missing chairs. There's a
gang of thieves operating nationwide. They block the Wi Fi signal.
It takes down the security system. They do this neighborhood wide,
(36:15):
so your neighbors have probably lost things too, and they
may have burgleicked your house. You want to check into that.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
I've got appreciate it. We got an update. We have
an update chair. What's your updated on that or on
that chair?
Speaker 2 (36:27):
What were you saying, Brad? I was gonna let me
finish what he was saying real quick.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
Oh my bad.
Speaker 11 (36:31):
The only way around it is to get an art
wire table and it has to be buried or aerial.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Gotcha. Okay, thanks for that, Brad. I appreciate it. By
the way, this is a pre show topic. I guess
that's bleeding over into KSR because Ryan, you and I
haven't even talked about this on the KSR show. That
I was telling Billy on the pre show that down
in Panama City Beach, where I have my condo, I
went out and I bought this really nice rocking chair
from my front porch because you know, I rent my
condo out. I want my renters to be comfortable and
(36:58):
have you know, nice furniture out there on the front porch.
And I had renters in there today and they said,
your rocking chair is now gone. It's missing, and I
paid good money for this rocking chair.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
Ryan.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
This is you were very proud of, not some.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Cheap chair we're talking about. This chair was hundreds of
dollars and it just was missing all of a sudden,
And I have a ring doorbell camera right there in
front of it. I'm going, now, how in the world,
after going back and reviewing the tape, could this chair
just be missing and not show up on the ring.
You know when you go back and you look at
your past footage, and you know every time that somebody
(37:34):
walks by, it sets off that motion detector and you
can see what happened. So this chair is just missing.
And then I posted in our condo like facebook community
page about it, and thirty minutes later it's now back.
So I have no idea, and I go back and
I look on there, and again it's just there. It
doesn't show at all any notification, so I couldn't even
(37:57):
see who returned it.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
But it's your buddy, place a prank on you, Nate.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
I hope. So you know, we've already called the front office,
and we've got the security on high alert down there
in Florida looking for a rocking chair that was stolen.
But it's now back. And somehow I got back without
being able to see who returned it. But that's the
thing I said. Look, next time, if you want to
borrow the chair, just ask me. Don't steal it.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
That's too funny. So the Adirondack chair is back.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
It is back, all right.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
We are joined now by our first interview on the
TBT week here they play on Friday night. Former Kentucky
Wildcat Khalil Whitney is back in town, back in Lexington.
Had a big old smile on your face when you
walked up and you said, man, it's good to be back.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
Yes, it is a pleasure to be back in the
city of Lexington, and it's great. It took a five
hour trip up from Chicago, very smooth, and the fans
have been supporting me and back in me. It has
been great since I got in town.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
I heard you gave an interview. I think it was
this weekend. Yeah, I gotta put that right by your mouth.
It's kind of tough with all that hair you got
right there, and you said you wanted to come back
and get a chance to feel the love of Kentucky
Wildcat fans that you kind of missed when you were
here as a player.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
Yeah, talk about that a little bit.
Speaker 6 (39:08):
Uh yeah, just a short time I spent here. I
don't feel like I got the full experience of just
the fans and the full program unfortunately. But ever since
i've been back, you know, since I posted a TikTok
and then blew up, the fans have been very supportive
and uh it's been it's been very motivational for me.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
So I really appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Now you're still playing though, right, Yeah, we've been playing at.
Speaker 6 (39:32):
Just came from Australia playing for coach Patrick Ewing Junior
for the South Metro East Pirates and the NBA in Australia. Australia, sir,
I guess there are worst places to play. That's not
a bad place to play if you're playing in Australia.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
Australia is beautiful, man.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
It's super Americanized and uh, I mean it's probably one
of the best places I've played as a professional.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
So and how many years you been playing there?
Speaker 5 (39:55):
This is my first year.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
I played there for six months, so kind of walking
through from Kentucky, where have you been and where did
you go after that?
Speaker 6 (40:03):
So my first year out I signed, I went undrafted
signed with Charlotte Hornets. That was a G League bubble,
so we played about eleven and twelve games in there.
The next year, I got traded to the Rockets, and
then I ended up playing uh A two way with
the Rockets and won a G League championship there with
(40:24):
my former teammate Gerald Green. I played with Willie Carley
Stein with the Rockets as well my second year. Uh
and then after that, I broke my big toe, so
I had to sit down for about four or five months,
and then UH that when I that's when I I
did my first overseas stint. I went to the Dominican Republic.
That was, like, I think, my first time going overseas,
(40:45):
and then after that I went to Canada.
Speaker 5 (40:48):
Been in Croatia, Wow, Yeah, I've been. I've been a
lot of places. I've been in New Zealand.
Speaker 6 (40:54):
UH so I get I can hang my hat on
and say I've been around a few countries around the world.
But the best place I think I've played far as
just basketball and just like sight seeing everything, I would
say Croatia. Croatia's number one for me.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
It's always kind of cool to talk to you, guys,
when you play overseas, you get it. You're getting world
experiences that we all don't get to explore. You get
it because you can play basketball, but you're playing basketball
in these great countries across the world.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
How about that.
Speaker 5 (41:22):
Yeah, it's a blessing. It's a blessing.
Speaker 6 (41:23):
I wake up every day feeling blessed that I could do, uh,
do what I love and get paid for it. So
I just thank God every day. So it's just amazing.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
He's Khalil Whitney. He's our first guy to arrive. Shannon
Doron and DeAndre We're supposed to be here at ten fifteen. Yeah,
that's that was forty five minutes ago. They haven't shown up.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
You think maybe they're on Central Time. Maybe they maybe
next time.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
Oh geez, here Khalil shows up thirty minutes early. That
says exactly what we're talking about right here.
Speaker 5 (41:53):
Donuts drive through when I got the club, Oh.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
You got to bring up donuts. Everybody wants talking about donuts.
Does he know about the He probably didn't even know
about it. I'll tell you about during the break.
Speaker 5 (42:02):
I love do we talking about?
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Oh? Ryan tried to eat ten big donuts? In fifteen minutes,
and he felt miserably.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that's I don't think I could
do that.
Speaker 4 (42:13):
I needed like another minute, Khalil and I would have
got it.
Speaker 5 (42:15):
All right.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
We'll take our break, come back north with Khalil Whitney.
I guess Ansley Almonard is going to show upretty soon.
At least we'll have a couple of guys to talk
to you. I appreciate you coming out man and being early.
That's what it's all about. We'll take our break. This
is Kentucky Sports Radio.
