Welcome to our two of Kentucky's sports radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Welcome back. I remember two of Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan
and Shannon here today. Matt is off. We said, we
told you this is a week off before football season
eally gets going. So we took a week off. Drew's
off with some family issues, and I'm sure he'll talk
about when he comes back. Billy, I think is on
the way down here, Shannon, So it's just you and
me again now for the rest of the show. But
we're joined by a couple of the TBT guys. Khalil
(01:26):
Whitney's with us. First. I talked about this. You know,
Doron Lamb and DeAndre Ligans were supposed to be here
at ten fifteen. Yeah, I think they're probably still asleep. Possibility,
but you know they are the old guys. Deandre's like
almost forty. I think Dron's probably not much younger than that.
So the old guys didn't make it. But Uh, Kalil
Whitneys here again. I'm gonna have another segment with you.
Uh let's let's let's get into the weeds with you
(01:48):
a little bit. When you were here your freshman season,
there were some struggles. Yeah, and you've talked openly about it.
Trying to deal with those struggles as a young man,
all of a sudden facing some adversity for the first
time in your life in basketball. What do you think
you how did you grow from that and what did
you learn from that experience?
Speaker 4 (02:11):
How I grew from it was just it's hard work. Consistency,
just knowing things not gonna happen overnight, just trusting the process.
I mean, at the time, I don't think I really
trusted the process as much as I should have. But
after I did some reflection on it, and yeah, I
think consistency and just being where my feet are, Uh
(02:35):
where were the two main things that I definitely I
learned from the whole situation. Just patience, just having the
right people around you.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Also, was there something that helped you or a teammate
that helped you or anything when you were going through
some of that, did you kind of were able to
lean on a little.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Bit, Uh, not necessarily, more just God, myself just trying
to find myself. Uh there's times where I was overseas
by myself alone, just trying to figure it all out
about myself, you.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Know, But a lot of it us on my own.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
I didn't really look to a teammate or anyone else
to like, uh, like tell my struggles to yeah, express
my emotions too.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
If you had to do it over again, ye would
there be anything you would do differently or things you
wish you could change?
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
I mean I feel like everything happens for a reason.
But amen, I mean if the if I was getting
incentives of like the n I L when I was just.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
I think much different, you know.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Uh, I think the last time we had DeAndre Long
when he was on here a couple months ago, He's
like saying it said the same thing. The man was.
Where was n I L when I was playing? You know,
it's crazy. So when you have then you you go
overseas and you're playing like you mentioned you by yourself,
Yeah you already since you went through some of that
tough times, I guess it helped you grow as a person,
not necessarily a basketball player, but grow as a person definitely.
(04:07):
How did that help?
Speaker 6 (04:08):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Just just dealing with everyday life, like I throughout the
whole process. I have to work a regular job as
a security at this nightclub in Jersey, So like just knowing,
like you know that the opportunity may not be there
at the time, but you got to keep pressing and
pressing every day and building something every day, whether that's
(04:29):
basketball or just real life, you know. And it helped
me with my siblings, just trying to instill in them
consistency that that wins the game. So I got two
little buzzets and a little sister. Yeah, really close with them,
and yeah, I speak that to them every day, like
just being consistent, hard work, it's going to get you
where you need to get.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Now.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Is this your first time back in Lexington? Yeah, that
you played here? I played, yes, sir. I mean you
come walking in, you got a Kentucky shirt on, you
got a Kentucky hat on. You do you do you.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Feel Do you feel like Entucky wild Yeah? I feel
I feel like I'm a Kentucky Wildcat again. I'm embracing everything. Actually,
some of the guys gave us some gear yesterday at
the at the little events, so it was dope, man,
I get to rock my Kentucky blow again.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
So you had the Charity Game, the All Star Game,
fans coming up to you, I mean get like you said,
you wanted to kind of feel the love that you
kind of missed out on when you here a little
bit for sure. Did you feel it? Yeah? I felt it.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
I think it'll be even even bigger once we get
to start playing and wining. So, like I said, I'm
forever grateful.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Let's talk about that. How's the team. You just started
practicing on Wednesday Monday. How are things going so far?
Everything's been good.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
I feel like we got a group of guys that
want to play together and actually want to bind together
and win. So I think guys in this team not
afraid to make sacrifices for the bigger goal of the team.
So I think that's a huge advantage for us.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
How are the old guys holding up, dron DeAndre Willie,
some of these older guys, the twins, are they holding
up all right? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
They still had it, man, They still getting to it,
still aggressive, And that's what you'd like to see out
of those guys, because those are the ogs or the
veterans of our team, and and those the guys that
start to start the things for us.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
So when twenty Beckham called you to try to convince
you to come and play, I mean, how did that
make you feel? You're excited and you're anxious to get
back here to lectioningon when you started your career.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Yeah, I was anxiusing the little nervous at the same time,
It's like this coming back to UK after you know,
me leaving not really knowing uh how the fans or
the city was going to react. So, like I said,
they embraced me, and I'm glad to be here.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
How Sewn Woods is the coach? I know Sean Woods
is a high intensity and I love him. I love him.
Talk about that a little bit. I love him.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
He's a high energy guy. He know what he know
what he want out of his team, and we know
what to expect from as a coach. So I always
loved playing for high energy coaches and coaches that the
man uh demand to play and demand like progression from you.
So I think this is a perfect coach for our
team and the type of team that we have. With
the type of guys you.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Feel pretty good about, you could make a big run
with this team then for sure. You know, last year
Nate Sustina kind of surprised everybody became kind of the
most valuable player. Yeah, who's that guy? This year? You think,
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
We got a huge, a great group of guys and
I feel like any one of us can have that
game where it have a great stretch of five at
six games and be that guy. So I don't know,
that's pretty much up in the air.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Do you know who Jesster is or Jesster was? Yes, Shannon,
we're just the old guys. We don't know who Jesster.
We didn't even know who he was.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
We're excited to have Jesser on the team.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Was that?
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I mean, you know who he is.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
I mean I've just seen him. I just seen him
on TikTok a few times. I didn't really know much.
I didn't even know he played basketball. So I mean
when he said that he was on the team, I'm like, oh,
it's cool, like we have a famous YouTube running team.
But yeah, that's about it now.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I will say this, I think you know, the Kentucky
basketball fans have always had a soft spot in their
heart for you because we felt, we felt what you
were feeling. You know, when you were struggling little bit,
we could see you know, you were getting down. I
think and I've always, like I said, had a soft
spot for you, and I think I think you're gonna
feel that now that you're back in town, being back
in front of the fans and feel that love again. Yeah,
(08:16):
how does that make you feel?
Speaker 4 (08:17):
It feels awesome? Like I kind of agree that. I
feel like the fans do have a little soft spot
for me. Ever since I came here just with the dragon,
with the whole dragon movement, everybody.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
You loved that.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
And then, yeah, I feel like ever since I stepped
on campus, the fans were treating me great. And uh,
I feel like this time around would be even better.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
So dude, once Kentucky Wildcat, You're always a Kentucky Wildcat, sir,
and you're gonna feel that now the rest of your life.
I just I love the fact Channy walks up wearing
Kentucky hat and Kentucky shirt, got Kentucky gear on.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yeah, here's still one of us. So obviously he feels
the love coming back. And you know that's what these TBT,
you know, the games are all about, is showing these
guys the love and appreciation for the third time that
they play.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Yeah, we appreciate you one. You were thirty minutes early.
I really appreciate that, sir. Go wake up Doron and DeAndre,
go find them somewhere you want to go times practice today?
Speaker 5 (09:10):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Is there just one practice today? Yeah? One practice today
and the scrimmers that we can't talk about the scrimmage
against maybe another team here in town. Yeah, is that today?
Speaker 5 (09:22):
Maybe?
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Maybe? Who knows? Okay, all right, all right, Khalil Whitney, man,
thank you very much. Good catching up with your best
of luck to you to Where are you living at now?
I'm in Chicago. It's back at home in Chicago. Home
in Chicago, living with your around where you grew up. Yeah,
I'm in the Inner City, Uh, with my grandma. Yeah,
very cool. Good to catch up with you, man. Proud
of you, dude. You came out of it. You're a
(09:43):
better person, you're better player, and proud of you what
you did with your life. Appreciate it. Thanks for having
Khalil Whitney. We'll take our break. Come back, Ansley almanor
the young pup on the crew, he's gonna join us.
We come back here Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky
Sports Radio. Just finished with Khalil Whitney and this tvt
week here in Lection ten. The guys play Friday night
at nine, probably like nine thirty for the tip off
(10:04):
at Historical World. Coliseum. Great catching up with Khil Whitney
the first time he's been on the show. And now
we got another first time. You're joining us, Annsley Almanor.
You're the You're the baby on the team. Ansley, you're
the rookie, You're the young guy on the team. How's
it been going.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
It's been going well, you know, great being around all
these Kentucky legends and you know they're trying to soak
in as much as I can.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I love that when you signed to play at Kentucky
you said some things were like I already knew you
appreciated what it meant to put on that jersey and
play here. What was that feeling like for you?
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Yeah, it felt great, Like like I always say, you know,
it's just been a dream for me to be able
to play at this level and put on a procedure
jersey like the University of Kentucky jersey. You know, it's
like a college basketball and just me having an opportunity
to represent you guys, it just meant the world to me.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
What was the What was going through your head when
Coach Pope first reaches out to you a year ago
trying to convince you to come here.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Yeah, it was I didn't even believe it after. I
don't believe it was like really the University of Kentucky,
it was just especially in the portal, it was just
a whole bunch of ups and down. It was just
so much movement and some of people reaching out and
just actually seeing that UK logo. It was.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
It was crazy because you had to look at the
roster and know, Okay, I may not start, but I
want to go to Kentucky and help this Kentucky basketball
program and coach Popoi starting to do here.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
No, that's exactly how I thought, you know, I just
want to go out there and help because knowing that
University of Kentucky, like there's a lot of people who
didn't start and still made it to oh yeah high levels.
And I know that just me being able to make
an impact on the team helped team win. It would
have it would still go a long way in my
career moving forward.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah. You know, we've had guys that had mediocre careers
here and ended up being NBA stars. You know, Shake Gillis,
Alexander wasn't a he didn't even start when he first
got here. So what what what did you find a side,
and like, you could have gone anywhere else and started
play a lot of teams win if you could have started,
why did you want to come here?
Speaker 5 (11:56):
Just knowing the background, you know, just knowing the history
of this program. You know it's a blue blae v
Blue blood you could say, like the greatest tradition in
college basketball history. Just seeing all the pedigree you had
with players and championships and just seeing how BBN is, like,
I felt like I just I couldn't pass the opportunity. Yep,
I feel like God put this in my in my
face or that you know I could take advantage of it.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
I've never seen a team go through as many injuries
as you guys had this past year. It had to
be frustrating, man, when you're sick, because you know you
could do something special, but the injuries kept stacking up.
It did.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
It sucked, man. We feel like without injuries, definitely like
for sure a Final four team. So it just it
sucks that you know you have to go through that.
But you know every team has their own has their
own vices, so you know it was it was still
a good experience. You know, he still went out there
and gave it are all, but obviously the injuries sucked.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
You guys were seemed like you were so a tight
knit group. You had to feel for Lamont, Jackson and
Kurr when they went down like that.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
No, I definitely had a definitely felt for Like you said,
we're a very tight knit that let my brothers, So
just them going out, them being hurt, it just really
hurt us. You know, it sucks, you know down, but
we tried our best out of the next man up
mentality and just you know, do do we could.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
When you're here for just one year like most of
you guys were, How did how did you guys get
so close? How did you develop that bond?
Speaker 5 (13:11):
You know, coach doing a lot of bonding activities, you know,
how to living together, eating together all the time. Uh,
just we spent a lot of time off the court
together and on the court we were just you know,
it translated to being on the court. So we spent
so much time together. We learned about each other and
we just became a family over that short spend time.
It was really over the summer, a lot a lot
of that just got built and as the year went on,
(13:33):
we just continue to get closer and closer.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
What were some of the bonding activities. I know, you
guys went to the lake one time. I think, then
what else did you do.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
That we did that? You know, we went to like
you know, we used to go bowling, movies, go to
team dinners, go to each other's houses. There's a whole
bunch of stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Who is the kind of the leader of you guys
when you're off the court like that, like you're going
to the lake.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
And the movies and bowling, it's probably Andrew Carr.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Andrew Carr.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, we call them our team Dad.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Well you got I mean you were the oldest team
I think we've ever had here, A bunch of old guys.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
Yeah, it was pretty old show.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
What was what was.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Your biggest, uh, maybe your most exciting moment you had
as a player here at Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (14:11):
Just I mean, obviously the whole season just was a
great exciting experience, the ups and downs. Embrace it all.
Thankful for, you know, just being a part of it.
But I feel like my favorite moment was probably being
Tennessee at home. I felt like that the crowd energy, Yeah,
just that win, you know, being against the ropes, you know, underdogs, injuries,
(14:31):
all that, and then them coming in here with you
just being them like that. It definitely was probably my
favorite moment all year.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Shannon. I'm telling you, when everybody mentions Ansley amanor the
one thing, I want to think of hitting a three
pointer deep in the corner, coffin corner three pointer, it's good, Shannon.
That's what we're to remember him for.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's no doubt about it. So I'm
sure you're excited about the the TBT coming up. You know,
last year Kentucky played Louisville. We want to see that again.
We want you guys to be able to take down
Louisville because you know, in the summer when there's no
thing going on Kentucky versus level and basketball, that's why
these these these games were so much fun. So I
want you to promise this now. If we got to
(15:08):
take on Loivelle, you guys are going to beat those
dirty birds, right.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
No, for sure, for sure, you know what it is.
I speak on it. You know exactly what it is.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
How long did it take you to understand what this
rivalry with Louisville was all about? Once you got here?
Speaker 5 (15:20):
Uh, once we went to the tv T game last year,
that's understanding. Yeah, it was crazy. That was like a crazy,
crazy environment for like a TVT game. We didn't know.
That's how it got.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah, Coach Pope took all you guys to Louisville. Well,
first you went to the Rupperena to watch the team play,
kind of got sucked in a little bit. Then they
took you to Louisville to watch the team play. You
understood what the rivalry was all about with the paints
and everything.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Yeah, that was crazy.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Do you have any idea watching them play last year
you're gonna be on the team this year.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
No, I had no idea. It's crazy how life works,
you know. I had no idea how it would be
be on his team with these legends. So I'm just
very grateful for the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
You're the baby. They poke at you a little bit.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Uh, not really really, it's crazy from going to from
being the old guy to the baby.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
That's true. Yeah, you're the old guy last year. Now
you're the the baby on the team. And listen, Coach
Posts probably not listening. Tell us a good Pope story,
Coach Pope story.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
I mean, we are there's a lot of good stories.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Is he the biggest nerd as he seems.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Yeah, yeah he is, but no, just I remember after
Ole Miss when he came into the locker room, he
started throwing chairs around, punching the board and stuff. That
was crazy.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
He did talk about that. Yeah, he uncharacteristically tried to
punch all through.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
Some chairs a very white board characteristic. But we needed
it though, and we changed right after.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
That makes him special. What makes him a good.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
Coach, like how he is and interviews, how he is
to the people, is how he treats us. You know,
he treats us with most respect. Uh it doesn't talk
down to his players. He's always trying to help everybody
get better. And like you said, he's just he was
very knowledgeable about the game. He knows so much about
the game. He played at the highest level, so he
knows what he's talking about. So it's you know, it's
just he's a great coach. And I feel like, you know,
(17:03):
he'snn accomplish what he needs to accomplish righty soon.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
It's amazing that roster he put together last year at
an outsider looking, he was amazing. He was recruiting pieces
pieces to his puzzle. You know he needed a knockdown
shooter Boom Asley amin or will go get him. I
need a good passer in the post, boom a Mario Williams,
go get him. I need a good point guard. Boom,
We'll go get Lamont Guller. Butler, he really just the
(17:27):
way he went out and got those individual pieces was
kind of amazing to watch it formulate and put it
all together last year.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Yeah, yes, he did a great job. The whole staff
did a great job of just you know, find the
right pieces for each position and you know, making it
all comes together. Like I said, if we didn't have
any injuries, he definitely would have been a final four team,
probably national championship.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
So what's after this week? TBT?
Speaker 5 (17:47):
What's next for you at the TVT I'm just trying
to play professionally, so hopefully that's a opportunity helps me
land somewhere, maybe overseas or G League or something like that.
So we'll see.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Still talking to some team, just trying to figure it
out out right now.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
Yes, my heir got an agent, so he's out there
pushing me to a lot of teams.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
So where are you where you've been living at since
the season ended?
Speaker 5 (18:07):
I've been in New York home, so's been training.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I didn't know if you'd stayed stuck around here. We're
playing pick up with the guys here.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
I left, like after I graduated, I left.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
So what's the the tv T team looked like?
Speaker 5 (18:19):
So far looks pretty good, you know, like Cleo Sands.
There's a lot of great guys, a lot of great pieces.
Players are unselfish and we all got one goal. Were
trying to win this whole thing. So it's just great
seeing like how people are just putting, putting the team
before themselves and I feel like we're really gonna go
far in this tournament.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Did you get to meet the twins and Willie last year? Like,
did you know him a little bit or you're getting
to know him right now?
Speaker 5 (18:40):
No, I'm mad him a little bit last year. Definitely
spoke like a little bit last year. But now it's
you know, seeing him more in depthinitely talking to him
a little more. Actually, you know, have a conversation with them,
you know.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Because WILLI was when he was here, he was a
freak and he's out there. He's seven foot tall, he's
guarden point guards, locking down point guard. The dude just
could do things athletically that most dudes just can't do. Yeah,
did you know about them when they were here? You
were you were pretty young. Did you watch it when
they were young?
Speaker 5 (19:05):
But I definitely did watch and I remember them for sure.
It was iconic, you know, the Twins was iconic game winners.
Willie was I remember that team vially. So yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I was gonna ask you, what are your earliest memories
of Kentucky basketball growing up in New York.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
Earliest memories probably like even a d blocking all those
shots the National Championship game. Uh, John Wall his day.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
You can remember your memories dance, Yeah, dance you knew
it before you got here. Yeah, And you knew Anthony
Davis before you got here.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Yeah. It's always interesting to me to talk to guys
that don't grow up in Kentucky. You grew up in
New York. What what was your thoughts about Kentucky basketball?
Speaker 5 (19:44):
Uh, it's just was the big like it was the
biggest thing, you know, like refereena, national uh, national national League,
televised games. Always like it's just the big thing. It's,
like I said, the mecha of college basketball. That's how
I thought of it, even in New York. You just
know that you see everybody think about He's like, oh wow,
it's Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
So when when coach Pope calls you to talk about
coming in, did you commit immediately? Because he wanted to
be a part of Kentucky basketball.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
But it took me some time because obviously it was
not the only school recruiting me. But I just after
like coming here and seeing it like in person, it
was like, it has to be just has to be
what I do.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
You know, that's where people that don't like the transfer
portal guys like you is a reason the transfer portal
is a good thing. You know, you're done it fairly,
Dickinson had a good career there. You're still good enough
to play here. The transfer portal allows you to transfer
to a school like Kentucky and be able to play
for a team like Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
Yeah, exactly. You know, I feel like it helps the players.
A lot of people who don't like it is really
because they they're probably they don't really like the empowerment
of players. But I feel like it helps players a lot.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
What you know, you got to the Sweet sixteen this year,
kind of a bittersweet ending after losing to Tennessee. What
are your what are your thoughts about the march badness
run where you please satisfy with her, you leave leave
kind of an empty feeling or well how do you take?
Speaker 5 (20:58):
Yeah, definitely an empty family because you know, like I said,
I felt like we could have been like a Final
four team for sure, and just going out at the
Tennessee like that after beating them twice definitely sucked. But
it was like, you know, I haven't been a sixteen
in a while over here or so yeah, right, definitely
get in you know, you ever see of Kentucky basketball
back on the right track, So that's definitely a good thing.
So I guess you say, like you said, a bittersweet moment,
bitter street feeling.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Yeah, it's been a minute since Kentucky been in the
sweet sixteen Coach Popen never even won an NCAA tournament game, true,
So that was kind of you know, you gotta gave
him and gave the fans a little something. You know,
I've said this before on this show. This first recruiting
class may go down is his most important class they'll
ever have here because he went out and got you
(21:40):
guys to put Kentucky basketball back on the map and
more importantly, get the fans back on board. And you, guys,
I think it's why everything. You'll you'll feel the love.
They're gonna love your your class. You guys, what you
did for this program in this state. Yeah you feel that. Yeah,
definitely definitely feel that. Definitely feel that.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
They always they called us a whole bunch of different
names for us foundation that So this is definitely definitely
cool to see how much they appreciate us.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Who is your who was your hangout guy on the
team last year?
Speaker 5 (22:09):
I probably a couple hang out with Jacks a lot.
I'll take a PG.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
What do you think about those two guys in this
year Otaga and Brandon.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
Yeah, it's gonna be some of year. I'm excited to
watch them play. So I feel like, you know, they've
they've made some big jumps and I'm excited to see
what they get to do.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
If you had a chance to watch the team practice,
gives a little scouting report on the team to coming
back next year.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
We haven't really got to watch watch yet, so we'll
see like as that we goes on, wait to see
you Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Think you're going to see him up claping personal maybe
later today. Yeah, listen, man, thank you so much. It
was great catching up with it. You're the baby on
the team. You had a great season. Congratulations on what
you did with Kentucky Wildcats, and well, like I said,
fans will be thankful of what you and that class
did for this team in this program. Last Yanks for
having me appreciate your having me appreciate it. Ansley Aman
or part of the TBT team. They play Friday night
(22:58):
at Memorial Costume. You can get tickets. Tickets are still
available as pack Memorial Costume. They play at nine o'clock.
Game will probably be like at nine to thirty probably
and if they win, when they win, they play Sunday.
When they win that when they play Tuesday, and then
that'll ship them off the Louisville to play the Dirty
Birds after that. So, man, we appreciate how's coach Woods been.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
By the way, he's cool. He's definitely like his energy,
like his passion. You know, it's good to have something
like that, especially when you're trying to win a win
a national championship, I mean, not at natural win the Ternam.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Anthony Abinnar, we're right back. Wrap it up here in
Kentucky's Ports Radio. Goodbye TJ.

Those two guys were awesome. Chloil Whitney and Ansley Almanor.
They've never been on the show before. We got to
kind of know them more as a person. I enjoyed
(24:23):
getting to know both of them.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Yeah, great job with that, and you know, both guys
bringing a different experience to the table, you know with
Anzeley almanor just playing here a few months ago, with
Mark Pope and Clil Whitney coming back. So great to
have both of those guys back. Have we heard anything
about Liggins and Lamb? Are they still going to be
on the show today or.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
They may still be asleep?
Speaker 8 (24:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Okay, I think maybe they might be uh yeah, still
sleeping right now, or maybe they're waiting on their Uber
downtown to get out here. So yeah, I enjoyed the
You know, Clitney and Annsley, both their stories are a
little similar. You know, Ansley wanted to come here to
fill the love a big Blue nation. Khalil wanted to
come back played for the tvt to feel that love
(25:04):
with the Big Blue Nation that he missed out on.
So both these guys were really as similar in that
aspect that they wanted just to play for Kentucky and
put on that Kentucky jersey.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Yeah, and I think they're definitely gonna fill the love
because you know, we take this stuff seriously this TBT.
Some teams are right here just to have fun. You know,
anytime we're talking about Kentucky players, whether current or former players,
US fans want them to win. So it's you know,
it's a serious thing here.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Eight five nine two two two seven. We've got a
couple of segments here. We'll take a couple phone calls
if you want to eight five nine two to eight
two and the Clark's Pumpish out phone number. Shannon announced
earlier though, that he's chair is back down there in
front of his condo in Panama City, Florida. But it
still doesn't have an answer why it disappeared and came
back yet, Is that correct?
Speaker 5 (25:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (25:47):
I'm not sure if somebody is like jamming my ring
doorbell camera or what. But it's mysteriously back, and you
know what, I'm fine with that as long as they
returned it. I mean, they could have just asked if
they wanted to borrow it. So that's an unsolved mystery
for sure.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Unsolved mystery. Now there's another thing.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Go ahead, No, go ahead, there's another unsolved mystery.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Right, Yes, there's another unsolved mystery. When Drew and I
were doing the show Monday at University Club for the
Jacob Tammy Swing for Soldiers event, we mentioned that there
was a very awkward on people trying to decipher what
that awkward moment was. I think I can kind of
share it without really embarrassing the parties involved. But if
(26:28):
you want to know what was going on? Do we
tell you what was going on?
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Shannon, Yeah, I knew what was going on, even though
I wasn't there. You guys told me during the break.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Well when we were when we arrived, they said, you know,
we can have Jacob Tammy at this time. We can
have one of the soldiers that benefited from a Home
for the Troops program, and then the head of the
Home for the Troops they said we could have him
on the show. Well, we never agreed that we would
have it. Comes over and gives us both his business
(26:59):
card and say, yeah, I'm ready anytime you need me
to come on, I'll be ready. And then he sat
down like right in front of us, like literally five
feet away from us, and we're just staring at us
the whole time. As we finished that last thirty minutes
of the show, forty five minutes of the show, he
would just kind so that so that was the awkward
moment that was going on. At the golf tournament on Monday.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
So you didn't make eye contact with him. You just
kind of just look the other way and pretended he
wasn't there.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Is that how you handled the situation?
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I turned my complete back to him, so I didn't
have to look at him.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Or did you blame it on the producer and say,
you know, look, the producer says, we just don't have
enough time for you today. Is that because I figured
that's something you might pull.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Oh I did do that afterwards?
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Oh you did?
Speaker 2 (27:39):
I don't see after the show, know you?
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Well?
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Yeah, after the show, I said, man, I'm sorry, producer,
we went along with the soldier Brent Brett. Sorry, man,
we just didn't have time for you. And he goes, oh,
don't worry about it. I understand it's radio. It's live radio.
So yeah, you did take the fall for it.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
No, I appreciate that. Thanks for throwing me under the
bus when I wasn't even there.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Eight two two two eight seven. We'll take some calls down,
say just let me know. We got a couple. Come on,
but SEC Football Media Days is going on down in Atlanta,
Kentucky does not take the do you hear that by
the way.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
That noise, Uh yeah, a little bit.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Yeah, they're doing some work in Chaos, bar and grill
and it's like right behind me inside. Uh. SEC Football
Media Kentucky takes this podium Thursday. They're the last one
on Thursday, late afternoon. Mark Pope Jordan loved Josh Caatis
and Alex Safari. We'll take the stand. But I thought
something very funny happened. Funny I mean here, first of all,
(28:33):
the SEC football media days is a waste of time.
It is a total waste of time. The coaches don't
say anything, the players don't say anything. We used to
go to it and I was a Channel eighteen and
finally realized we are wasting money and time. We know
there's nothing you can get out of this. They send
out a feed. You can record the feed and not
go down there at all. Sothough, that's my soul box
about the SEC football media days. But I thought there
(28:54):
was something very funny that happened yesterday. Did you hear
what happened when Steve Sarkazy was introduced as the Texas
head football code.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Oh yeah, they played the wrong theme song, didn't they
the wrong fight song?
Speaker 2 (29:05):
They played the Texas A and M fight song, not
just the wrong song. They played the Texas A and
M fight song, which Steve Kirkcasey and was introduced yesterday. Okay,
so the conspiracy theory was that on purpose or was
that a total accident? Hmm?
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Was A and M? Were they also the same day?
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Like?
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Is there any way that maybe that that music was
cued up because they were?
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Now, I don't I don't think it was the same day.
I think I don't think. I maybe I'm but I
don't think Texas A and M took the podium yesterday.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
I think that maybe whoever was ever just you know,
in charge, is just trolling.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
I think I see, I knew you'd take that theory.
That's possible whoever was in charge of the music slipped
up quote unquote at an accident and played Texas A
and M music instead of Texas music.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
You think that person's looking for a job today.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Amen, No, das looking for a job. That'd be like
if you'll introduce Mark Stoops and they play the Louisville
fight song he walked up to the podium or something
like that. So I don't know if that was an
accident or not.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
I lean, No, I think that was probably on purpose.
They knew what they were doing. I mean, how hard
is it to hit the right button?
Speaker 2 (30:14):
You know?
Speaker 3 (30:14):
I mean sometimes you you know, if you screw up,
I think you would catch it and turn it off, right,
You wouldn't just let it keep playing unless you don't
know the difference.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
I totally agree. Yeah, you and within one second you
know you're playing the wrong song. You gotta flip it
and play the texts. The obviously had them all loaded
up ready to go.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Yeah, you think that maybe somebody mislabeled it and gave
like the wrong school matching up with the wrong song.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
You think that's a purpose, not all accident. On purpose.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Okay, so you're saying this is one on purpose.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
And I'm gonna believe it. The troll move that you
just don't mess up something like that. Uh, Texas A
and M and Texas fight songs. I think it's totally
totally done on purpose.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Now we got a couple of calls. Uh, let's go
to Craig, Greg.
Speaker 9 (31:00):
Craig, go ahead, Hey, thanks for taking the call first time. Yeah,
thanks for Yeah, I appreciate that. Thanks for calling a
long time listener on the on the podcast, so I'm
not able to always dial in on live, but thanks
for taking calling none the last.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
I'm sure if this is like ask anything kind of day,
but I listened to yesterday's UH call with Myron talking
about the top five. Who's everybody's top five? Right, and
and I and I just think that that is just
kind of a it's just a swirld. But you know,
this is the time of the year where you know,
you kind of need to need to find something. But
I think what possibly might be a more well to me,
(31:41):
it might be a more interesting question, and like to
get your thoughts on it is of the of the
seasons that Cal had and the players that came through
this place. What what seasons teams do you think Patino
would have won a national championship with that Cal didn't.
Speaker 9 (32:00):
I just kind of want to get your.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Thought fifteen to start. Thanks to the call, Craig, appreciate it.
Fatina would have won with that thirty eight and one team.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
There's there's no probably Brian Lane would have won with
the thirty eight and one team. No one to just
disrespect to Brian Lane, but yeah, that team was unbelievable.
You know, I don't blame Cal for the loss in
John Wall's team. I mean, that team just got They
just had a bad shooting night against a team that
(32:30):
was shooting lights out, and that Pitchnagle guy played the
game of his life against De Marcus. I just think
that's I don't blame that on Cal, to be honest.
The only one I think I would pin on him
would be that that Wisconsin loss, because you know, he
he made the move to air the ball out, you know,
and to get time off the clock, and that led
to a couple of shot clock violations and a couple
(32:51):
of turnovers. I mean, you could you can kind of
place them on that one. The other team I think
was his best, you know, the twenty twelve obviously won.
But twenty seventeen with fox, bunk and bam, Yeah, could
Patino have done something wrong with that? Maybe? You know
who knows about that? What do you think?
Speaker 3 (33:04):
I've always wondered, You know, it's fun to look back
and think, Okay, if Patino didn't leave after ninety seven,
you know, after that season, and stayed here all this time,
how many championships would he have had? I think he
give him the twenty twelve team, right, I think that's
a title. Yeah, I think twenty fifteen is one. Yeah,
there's an argument for twenty seventeen as well. You know,
(33:26):
I think he gets at least at least two more
if he were still here.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
And what Cal Perry did with the twenty fourteen team,
you know, that team kind of struggled during the season
a little bit. To me, Julius Randall kind of drugged
him to the championship game. I don't know if Patino
could have done that. That may have been something that
Cal was able to do. Cal took the twenty you know,
the Brandon nineteen to twenty eleven team to the final four.
Maybe Cal couldn't have done that, you know, I don't know.
(33:53):
It's a good question. Both guys are just different, you know,
Cal such a great recruiter and Patino maybe more of
a better game.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Coaching, game coach for sure, making adjustments, drawing up.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
I've always thought this, Shannon, I don't know if Patino
would have won the ninety eight title, but without Tubby.
I think Tubby won that because of what he was
able to do with those guys. You know, I don't
know if Patino could have done it with those guys.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
M you know, yeah, I think I disagree with you
on that. I think he would have won ninety eight too.
I mean they had so many good players, so many
I mean a lot of those guys were Patino's players too.
Let's keep that in mind.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
So that's true.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
I think he could have still won it ninety eight
if he were still around. So I would say, I
said too, I forgot about ninety eight, so I guess
I would say three. I think he would get ninety eight.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Let's get another callfe we take a break.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Who we got Let's go to Steve.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Steve, go ahead, Steve.
Speaker 8 (34:42):
Okay, my oldest was just recently named the head coach
at Frederick Douglas.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
I believe it is.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
And I was head coach of what if you hed
coach of what?
Speaker 3 (34:54):
You know?
Speaker 8 (34:55):
One of the prospects this year.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
He's not listening to you, head coach.
Speaker 8 (34:58):
Of what, head coach of what's I apologize the head
coach of the boys high school basketball team. They're Frederick Douglas.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
He's not the head coach.
Speaker 8 (35:17):
For the boys basketball team.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
It's Murray Garvin, is it not?
Speaker 8 (35:26):
Okay? I mean if I don't know, wait, wait, wait, wait,
whoever this is? Okay, who whoever it is? What's school
they've had like full coaches in the last four years.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
That's Frederick Douglas. And unless coach Garvin has just re
retired and left and somebody they hired somebody that I'm
not aware of, So shout out about this.
Speaker 8 (35:48):
College coach Q is the man and coach?
Speaker 2 (35:53):
What's the first coach? Now? What's the first name?
Speaker 8 (35:58):
Job?
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Haye?
Speaker 2 (35:59):
That know? Okay, appreciate the phone call.
Speaker 5 (36:02):
That's our whiskey thief.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Not call today, But unless something happened recently that I'm
not aware of, I think they've still got the same coach.
But he gets had it was his oldest son, so
he should probably know better than me.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
I think we just have everybody call up and just
dispute who's the high school basketball coach with Ryan Well.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Coach Q is now the new head coach at Dunbar.
I know that one because he's a friend of the show.
He's a friend of the of all of us. Uh
so I know at least he's at Dunbar. I'm gonna
do some research. We take a break. We'll take our break,
come back. Final segment. Phone lines are open eight five
nine two eight oh two two eight seven, Ryan and Shannon,
you're Kentucky Sports Radio. All right, welcome back. Final segment

Was it one and a half strikeout?
Speaker 2 (37:33):
One and a half strikeout?
Speaker 3 (37:33):
You got two in the first inning he threw first inning. See,
that would have been my luck. I would have taken
the under. I need that too, you did and you lost.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
I bet a whole cool two dollars on the end
and use the profit.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Boosting in you two dollars bets.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
I thought he would just throw fast balls, and they
would you know, at least hit a pop uper ground balls.
Speaker 10 (37:53):
Yeah, I have to win that money back on the
Rockies games, right.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
I've bet the Rockies to lose. I'm still gonna do
it every single game. I know I have. I say this,
They're going to go on a great winning streak. But
you know, you win a dollar at a time.
Speaker 6 (38:04):
It adds up a little bit funny line or mostly Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Making much money? No, I get like a dollar, I win,
I get dollars. Yeah, Billy, our Sports has joined us.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Hey, do you have any hard hitting topics for this
last four minutes of the show.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
You said you had a topic you've been waiting to
usually want to use it now, wait till till till tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
It don't matter. Our boy Drew wrote us and he
said that, you know, he'd love to hear your thoughts
on this Annabelle story. So do you want to talk
about it tomorrow or do you want to talk about
it today.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
I don't even know what the annabel story is.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Well, Billy and I talked about it on the pre
show a little bit, and Billy, you can help me
kind of fill in the uh, the blanks here that
I may miss. But annabel is this raggedy ann doll
that supposedly demonic, right, it's it's I guess what would
you call it, Billy, just that's.
Speaker 10 (38:48):
The right word for it.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (38:50):
In the past, it's moved across rooms, it's stabbed a
police officer allegedly.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Yeah, this is if you've seen the movie Annabelle, this
raggedy and doll is based what it's based off of.
And they're taking this doll around on a tour. I
guess for like paranormal investigators to I don't know, look
at or take pictures with whatever it is. Anyway, the
guy who is taking this doll on this tour mysteriously
(39:16):
just died out of the blue, unexpectedly, and now a
lot of people are saying that it's because he moved
this doll. And I think we need Ryan Lemon's take
on this. Is this doll really possessed or what's going
on with this story? Don't you think that's kind of crazy?
This guy just out of the blue just died while
he took the doll on tour.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
I think it's crazy that people think the doll did it. Yes,
I think that is crazy, and I can I could
be led to believe about ghosts, spirits, things that happened
to paranormal But a doll that comes to life and
kill somebody, Come on, man, that is that is strictly
a movie. That's no way that that is.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
A paranormal hunter. I mean it could be anybody.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Well mayst ghost out, but a doll didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
Raggedy and dolls, So you're saying and kill the guy
purely coincidental. This doll that has a track record of
stabbing a police officer, and it's got a record it's
been chasing people around in an apartment. It's said here
allegedly it's able to lift its own arms.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah. In the movies, Hollywood.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
No, this is Eda Lorraine Warren, their famous paranormal investigators,
and their dying wish was please don't move the doll. Well,
this guy not only moved it, he took it on tour.
And now he's dead and you're telling me what he
die of. That's the thing. They can't figure it out.
I think it was demonic possession. I think that's what
he died of.
Speaker 10 (40:41):
Still investigating.
Speaker 6 (40:42):
Yeah, so the people that used to have the doll,
the Conjuring series is based on them. So, like, I mean,
there's some stuff going on.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
That's paranormal psychodrama. BS is what?
Speaker 3 (40:54):
Oh okay, you better be careful. Don't say that too loud.
Annabel could be listening.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Bring on, Annabelle, come to Chaos Bar and Grill tomorrow.
We'll knock it out.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Okay, Well, there you go. There's Ryan's take.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
There's my take on Annabelle. Come on, you guys don't
believe it doll killed somebody?
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Well, I mean, okay, you were the one who was
scared at the Scurving Hotel in Oklahoma City.

So much that's different.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
You slept with the light on.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Well, that's different.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
We're talking about ghost. That's the same thing. This doll
was possessed by some sort of demon, and you believe
that the Scurving was a haunted hotel. You slept with
the lights on like a big scaredy cat. Now you're
telling who was who was with me in the room?
I'll use I tried to turn off like Ryan, Hey,
don't turn that light off. Billy listened to me. Every
(41:41):
time I tried to get up and turn the light off.
Ryan would get right back up five minutes later and
turn it right back on.
Speaker 10 (41:45):
Who was that lights on the whole night?
Speaker 2 (41:47):
We did the go lights on the whole night? He
was It was a little freaky.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
No, he was scared like Scooby Doo.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
He was. I I could be scared of some doll.
It's gonna wake up the mill of the night.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
I bet you wouldn't sleep in a room with it
the Annabelle, Yeah, probably not.
Speaker 10 (42:06):
I feel like Shannon's already slept in that room.
Speaker 2 (42:09):

lot of technical difficulties. This morning on the Leech Report,
and we had a couple of guys Doran and DeAndre
probably still asleep somewhere here.
Speaker 3 (42:19):

Speaker 2 (42:20):

they are super great people. They donated five thousand dollars
after the Donut Chapter I failed in the Donut Challenge.
They donated five thousand dollars to five different charities in
