Speaker 6 (02:28):

I come here every Sunday. I go to Whole Foods,

all foods, Yeah, yeah, lots of good restaurants arend sunglasses.
Even though it's opposite out of town for me, I
really like to sum it out here.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
It is beautiful out here. If I'm nine two eight
twenty two eighty seven. Uh, you know, the guy asked
me for the show if I had a lot of topics,
and I had a couple of things I was going
to do to start, and then a story came out
this morning that I actually thought was probably the most
interesting story. I don't know about you, but I've always
wondered Ryan. You know, we have a Kentucky has a
deal with Nike. I've always wondered, like, how much do
(03:04):
we make from that? Because we've been in Nike school forever? Well,
the Harold Leader big shout out to John Hale. He
got the information and UK has extended their deal with
Nike for ten years, and we have the specifics and
so if you read the article yet I have not.
All right, So I think this would be a good
chance for you to guess. I want you to guess.
In the new deal with Nike, how much does Kentucky
(03:28):
get paid a year to wear the swoop and to
have all of its gear made by Nike?
Speaker 7 (03:34):
Fifty six million a year a total total? Okay, so
what five point six a year?
Speaker 2 (03:41):
You think it's five point six million dollars a year?
All right? What about you?
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Shit, I'll go fifteen million.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Fifteen million a year? Yes, well you're way off U
a rig I hadn't know about that until this deal.
Guess what we were getting paid before? One point eight
million dollars a year? Well that was it. One point
eight million dollars a year, and then they gave us
a one point seven million dollar bonus. So basically we're
getting three point five. Now, under the new deal, we
(04:10):
get seven million dollars a year, So they ended up
adding it five million dollars more seven million dollars a year,
and instead of that one point seven million dollar bonus,
Kentucky gets fifteen percent of everything you buy that has
that Nike that has the Wildcats logo on it. Fifteen percent.
Now I don't know how much that is drew because
(04:33):
we've apparently not gotten that in the past, but that
would strike me as being more than one point seven
million dollars a year. That's just a gas But I
just look at it this crowd. All of you pretty
much have something on the gear that says Kentucky on it.
So fifteen percent of everything that hasn on I'm just
this is a complete ballpark. But I'm going to gus,
(04:54):
what eleven ten eleven when all that gets added up?
Would you what do you think? Sure?
Speaker 6 (04:59):
It sounds good to me.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I have no idea, but it just again and reading the.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
Article, I was actually surprised that they didn't get a
cut in the pass and they just got a flat.
This is what you get for the year. I would
think moving forward, it's gonna be a lot more profitable
and there were there are a lot of incentives we
didn't have before we get to.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Those, so there was a lot of other stuff that
came in there that I thought was interesting. So you
get Shannon two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for winning
the national championship in football, Okay, one of the chances
we get that during this ten year deal zero. Okay,
But this should tell you how much football is what
drives it. How much do we get for winning a
(05:34):
national championship in basketball? Fifty thousand dollars? So Nike values
in national championship in basketball one fifth as much as football.
That kind of surprises me because while football gets huge ratings,
he doesn't get five times the ratings for like a
national championship game women every other sport, so women's volleyball,
(05:56):
women's softball, baseball, whatever, you win a national championship in
that twenty five thousand dollars. So they basically value those
sports half. So that's the that's the big picture. Now,
I'm I'm Drew has always been. He's convinced me on
the it ain't my money, it doesn't matter. But I
do think it's interesting to compare it to other schools. Okay,
(06:19):
so we've we have, I've sort of come up. I
think Kentucky's probably looking eleven or twelve million dollars a year.
Guess who gets the most? Do you know who gets
the most? No Ohio State. Would you like to tell
how much Ohio State gets a year from Nike? Remember
we get I'm guessing eleven let's say eleven million dollars
(06:42):
Ohio State twenty five million? Goodness?
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Wow, now double.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Here's the thing that frustrates me, Drew. Adidas, as you know,
paid the most of any school in the country. Their
biggest one they pay the most is Louisville. Guess how
much louis gets from Adidas. Sixteen million dollars a year,
which means Louisville is getting five million dollars a year
(07:09):
more to wear Adidas. Then we're getting, at least, by
my guesses, to wear Nike.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
I'm well, that was what I was gonna ask.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Okay, Well, so the people that would make the case
for Nike would say, first of all, Adidas gear sucks.
If you've ever worn it, like, it's the worst. I mean,
I have a couple things of Adidas. They always fall
apart and they're not as cool. Secondly, there are players
Drew you know this that the Nike thing, the Adidas
thing for Louisville keeps them from going. I mean, Louisville
(07:41):
fans think if they lose this Tyron Stokes, Tyron Stokes
the number one player in the country, he'll be because
he's a Nike kid. Is there any argument that you
should take a company like Adidas. It could be New Balance,
it could be whatever in order to make that extra money.
Or do you say, look, we may get less, but
we're part of the Nike bread and not a Kentucky.
You're Nike's best basketball school, even Duke maybe one A
(08:04):
and one B.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
I feel like going the other brands is something you
do if you're a little more desperate and farther down
the total pole, like a Maryland with under arm or
even though that's local, you're just trying to reach and
build a different brand. But when you're Nike and you're
the Kentucky and you're the gold standard, you need to
wear the gold standard. And I think most kids consider
Nike that in athletic wear.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Right, I already know what you'd do. Whoever paid you
the most money is where you would go there'd be
no other consideration, like you could have like a company
that no one's ever heard of. You would take that
by right, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
You take that brand and make it cool though, right, Look,
anyone could do it wearing.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
I'm wearing Adidas. People are gonna be buying Adidas, baby,
they are. Yeah, if you are, if I'm wearing it, yeah,
look at me. Of course, that's.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Quite a look. Yeah, those shoes, that's top of the line.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Yeah, those are from the old contract.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I think I think that's probably true. What do you think? Shit,
is there any ego hit to the fact that Louisville
gets five million dollars more year? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I think that there is.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
And again, I know players value Nike versus Adidas. For
me personally, it wouldn't matter to me. It would go
to the highest bidder. So if Adidas is gonna give
me five million dollars more to put on their gear,
why wouldn't that unless you're gonna lose players. Now, that's
what it comes back to. That's the other side of
this argument. Will you lose players because of that?
Speaker 2 (09:31):
I think you would. In basketball, I don't. I don't
know if it makes any difference in football. But I
think in basketball, Drew, you, there are guys we would
not have gotten over the years, especially when cow was here.
There are guys we would not have gotten.
Speaker 6 (09:43):
If we were not at a backing school. Adidas is
not a basketball brand. I mean, they have good stuff
named their biggest Adidas endorsement Adidas the best basketball player
when I guess Anthony Edwards maybe. But with Nike you
have Booker, you have so many UK alums where you
can tie that in. It's already Kentucky and Nike are already.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
In so many This is a European brand that does
a lot of soccer like like that. Basketball is second.
I'm amazed they pay Louisville what they pay. I don't
really know what they get out of that, but maybe
just to say, because you know they have Kansas and Louisville,
that's that's kind of what they had.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
But kind of going off Drew's point there, if I'm Kentucky,
that's where I go in and go, hey, we can
be the biggest names for Adidas.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Okay, well they did that, by the way, that's what
they did with media rights. So our media rights for
all the complaints you hear me, do about about JMI sometimes,
et cetera. Which, by the way, I think a lot
of that stuff's better. But the reason Jay and I
got our media rights is Kentucky did that with media.
Everybody was with IMG and everybody was kind of getting
(10:43):
paid on a formula, and Kentucky went and there's this
new company called JMI that said, we will blow these
people out of the park. Just go with us, and
so they did it, so Drew, They've shown they would
do it on something else.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
Yeah, I just don't think you can give up what
you have now. I mean, Kentucky's the first to get
the new Kobe. I mean, there's so many things that
Kentucky benefits from Nike, and that's what the kids want.
Stokes is a great example. If he doesn't pick a Louisville,
it's probably gonna be Kentucky or god forbid, Arkansas, both
because of a Nike connection over Adidas.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah, well I found it interesting. I also think it
interesting shows you how much more money's in college sports.
Ten years ago, our total payment from Nike was three
and a half million dollars. Ten years later, we're looking
at eleven to twelve million dollars. So in ten years,
the cost or the worth of college sports, at least
in the eye of this publicly traded corporation that has
(11:34):
to answer to shareholders. The cost is four times what
it was ten years ago ran which you know, if
we all think man tickets cost more, everything costs more,
you're right. And here's an example. It costs four times
more in ten years than it did before.
Speaker 7 (11:51):
You know, old guys like me probably think it doesn't
matter that she doesn't matter. The logo, the brand, it
one hundred percent absolutely matters. And that's a perfect example
what has happened to it. The brand you the wear
makes a huge difference, especially the players you have now
and the players you're recruiting.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
I think it matters now more than ever two because
their son and these deals in high school. Like DJ
Wagner was on the cover of Nike stuff before he even
got to Kentucky Stokes. In the same way, there's other examples.
It's gonna be big in recruiting moving forward, but then
so now, so that's going to go forward with Kentucky. Also,
we got to see a little bit more on the
basketball thing. I was looking at the schedule, Shannon in
(12:28):
terms of the home sec schedule, and it is the
most balanced I've ever seen in terms of so as
a restaurant owner, here's a little secret. I look when
the schedule comes out and I'm rooting for Saturday home
games and I'm rooting for midweek road games. Right, I
want Saturday home games because that gets a huge day
(12:48):
of stuff Midweek Roman road and home doesn't make a
huge difference in years past, like we have had an imbalance,
maybe we would have six Saturday home games games only
three year road or whatever. This year and the SEC
put out an announcement yesterday they said they tried to
balance it where every coaches have complained every team has
(13:12):
five Saturday home games, five road games. Every team will
have the same amount of nine o'clock games this year.
I like that, remember, because we sometimes it's felt like
because we were in that prime slot, we'd get all
these nine o'clock games.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Every team will have the same one. It looks like
they're trying to make it more balance, which I'm for.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Shit, yeah, I like that they're making a concerted effort
to do that and not put Kentucky on these nine
o'clock primetime games because they draw better ratings. But it's
tough on the fans a lot of times. You know,
a mid week game at nine o'clock's not over to
eleven o'clock. If you're driving outside of Lexington, you may
not be home till midnight. So I like the balance of.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
This A midwek I mean, again, completely on a selfish level,
a midweek road nine o'clock game is like a desert
from the bar. Sometimes for a seven o'clock it's okay,
but for a nine o'clock you can forget it. But
I also think if you look at our schedule, right,
it is the most balanced. But I continue to think, man,
we have all of our hard games on the road
(14:08):
and all of our easy games at home, which I
think makes it hard to hit the ceiling of a
record we want, Like, I think it's gonna be impossible
to go like sixteen and two. But I also think,
right it means our floor. You remember last year we
were flirting with five hundred a lot of the year.
I don't think that's gonna be the case this year
because our home games outside of Florida and Tennessee are
(14:29):
actually pretty easy in SEC play.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
Yeah, maybe balanced in time slot, in day of the week,
it ain't balancing an opponent. And every year Kentucky's gonna
play twice Tennessee, Vanderbilt and whoever, probably the best team
is in the league.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Last year it was Alabama. This year it's gonna be Florida.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
But I still think that's relatively balanced. I mean, no
offense to Shannon. Vanderbilt is gonna stink most year. So
one of the teams we're gonna play twice every year
is gonna stink. And then Tennessee's gonna be good most years.
So one of the teams we play is gonna be good.
This is the price you drew to get every game
on it. Remember, I mean our non conference games. You
(15:04):
all will be able to watch all of our non
conference games on a network except maybe one. These other teams,
they have like eight or nine games that are on
the app in the non conference. The price you pay
for that is you have to play the best team
in the league twice.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
Yeah, and with the road thing, you know, you slip up,
slip up on the road every year when you shouldn't.
Last year I was an old miss in Georgia. Maybe
if you just lose two or three on the road
this year, you're going to surrender into those big opponents,
and you hold court at home against the easy teams
to help out your record. The most important thing is
just not slipping up at home. With the schedule, you.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Can't lose at home. We play Mississippi State, Missouri, Georgia.
Uh you know what, who am Mandy A and Emvayn.
You just cannot lose any of those home games. A
if I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
we are here at the Summit in beautiful LEXI to
Kentucky on a sunny day. This is listen. I can
(15:55):
tell you all gonna be sweating. You make it through
these two hours. You're gonna be like my favorite people,
and I know you could do it. We got some
we got some hardcore. Once here, we'll take a break
and be right back. This see is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Water Back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at
Shady Rays. First of all, I'm giving a big shout
out to all the people that are in this crowd
because yes, yes, it is hot. I was told it
(16:16):
wouldn't be hot by Ryan Lemon. That's why I don't
listen to him for weather. Uh it's it's hot, but
you know what, you get fifty percent off Shady Raise.
You're gonna win prizes. And I always have a special
spot in my heart for people who sit in the sun. Uh,
in time like this, you can come to Shady Raise
fifty percent off here in the store. It's cool inside,
fifty percent off throughout the show. Right.
Speaker 7 (16:36):
Yeah, our buddy Sean coming here. He can every time
he comes, every time we're in Shaddy Rays, he comes
just to buy the Shady Raids on the.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Dialnut you're gonna say, just to sweat well. Uh, twenty
two eight apparent twenty two eighty seven. Apparently Tennessee is
switching to Adidas. So that's even more reason we never
could if Tennessee and Louisville are there, Uh, they're basically
the Evil Empire, so we can't go.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
Yeah, she was Adidas's biggest brand for for like decades
and they switched to Nike. I don't know when that was,
fairly recently, and they need to go back to Adidas.
Get him out of here.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
One person writes, Matt, everywhere I went yesterday people were
talking about paving over cemeteries. I blame you, my wife,
and I also got into an argument with it last night,
including me leaving and saying, just cremate me. So I'm glad.
I'm glad. That's how the conversation I all night was
having people send me stories of what former what had
(17:29):
happened at former cemeteries, where they were pictures of like
there's an airport that has two runways and then two
graves in the center of it, Like stuff like that
is crazy. I didn't realize Trump buried his ex wife
on his golf course bummer on a whole thirteen. I
bet she loved that.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Why like in the fairway or like the green.
Speaker 6 (17:51):
Nose by bunker in the fairway fairway bunker. Oh it's
in the fairwek I think, well, he was in the book.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
I would never be there anyway. But less there's a
ton of these stories, and I did not realize that
guy that wrote me yesterday was right. We had almost
no regulations on what people had to do with cemeteries
until like nineteen eighty four, so if you were born
before nineteen eighty four, they kind of could have done
(18:18):
whatever they wanted. Now. I had another person write me though,
and say that after those regulations, it made cemeteries more
difficult to maintain, so that's why nobody builds any more
cemeteries now. So it was like it helped keep the exploitation,
but it also led to where now no one builds cemeteries.
(18:38):
So I guess it's I guess it's you know, I
guess they're trade offs for each thing.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
I went down that rabbit hole yesterday of reading about
the story that you were talking about that happened in
the eighties, Just a crazy story.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
What did you read?
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Well, I mean, just no more details than what you
talked about, but it was just kind of interesting to
read and see that these bodies were just being taken
out and removed without anybody's permission.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
It's kind of wild to think about. It just goes thir.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
There's so many things going on in this world that
we have no idea about until you start.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
The Yeah, well, and then we sit and argue about
ads of genes and literally bodies being dug up from
the ground, and we're like, I don't like that, Jean's ad,
and then we get really uh, we get really upset you.
Pat Kelsey did a bunch of interviews yesterday, and uh,
in it, they were asked about the UK Louisville game
(19:26):
being so early in the year. It's funny because he
seems like a really nice guy, and Mark Pope, if
you remember earlier, essentially said it's Louisll's fault. At games
November eleventh. Pat Kelsey was like, yeah, it might be
our fault. We screwed this up. But we're playing at
November eleventh, and he kind of insinuated it would never
be that early again in the year. So I was
(19:47):
glad to see that.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
I hope he's not. I hope he is telling the
truth because I hate it. I hate the fact we're
playing that game that early in the season. So if
it was just a schedule faux paul one time, never
let it happen.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
It's gonna be like our second game of the year,
isn't it second week of the season.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
I hate it.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
Uh, you know, we all hated it. I think even
Louisville fans hated it. Why Pat Kelsey is saying that,
But I loved ruining their Christmas every year. It was
always right around Christmas and then the football game had
already been played, so we got to talk trash all
the way till November this year, I'm a little less
confident football. So if we beat them in basketball two
weeks later, they can shut us up on the football.
Speaker 8 (20:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
I mean that's a big part of this this year
is that the basketball and football are so close. If
you lose them both, the other fan base will never
shut their mouth. And I remember they had redone the schedule,
so that one team got home football, one got basketball,
and then it alternated. But then COVID hit and we
(20:43):
missed one of the games and it ended up making
them to where they were on the same year ride.
So that's that's why, and so we have to go
to Louisville for both of them this year.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
Yeah, Louisville backed out of that COVID game.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
We had kick back out, didn't they? Yeah, all on them.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
All of this is their fault.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Would you trade a law basketball for a winning football
over Louisville? No, you know, because that's a good question.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
I think it depends on what our record is. So
if we're five and six going in the Louisville game.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Yeah, you're you're a big underdog going into that game.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
If we're five and six going in the Louisville game,
I'd rather win the football game.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
If for three and eight doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
They're not there to lose the game. Yeah, because back look,
I mean I want to beat them in basketball, but
it's November eleventh. That football game. If it's a difference
between going to a bowl or not, I think you
can make now you can make an argument we'd rather
win the football game run.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
I like the fact that the the football game is
in the last game because we've had that before. We
go into the game with five wins. They had a
good team, upset them, got our six win capball.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
I mean that's happened twice. Yeah, and it's been big
I think for the school both times.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
Lust we gotta beat the little dog this year. I
mean that's the other thing.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
See think about think listen, think about how much fun
it would be to go out there and be grown
men in this game. Like think about like that would.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Be because the camera would pick up Vince on the side,
I mean like talking, you.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Know, I didn't even think about that factor. Now I'm
kind of all in on the football. Unless we've only
won three games, I'm still going basketball. You are, Yeah,
we need to shut this revivevill up. Whatever they this
Pat Kelsey bump they had last year. Let's keep eating them.
Go put them in a locker in the young sinner.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
I don't want to lose the basketball game ever, especially
see this football season.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
We're not doing anything. How many of you, ah, let's
put how many football? How many basketball cares about football?
It really is. I mean that that was away from
the football, and it's just not that people just don't
don't believe it. Wow, that surprises me. Eighty seven A
couple up of lines, give us a shout. We'll take
(22:56):
a break, gry bags can here's not er back. It
is Kentucky Sports Radio e fun nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven, text Machine seven seven two seven
seven four five two five four. We will go to
the phones. But first, uh Drew Randall Cobb, Oh yeah,
is in a new reality show. He's gonna be on
(23:17):
a reality show. What's it called Special Forces Special Force.
He'll be like going through training as if he was
entering the military Special Forces? Is that right?
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Yep, yep, yepep.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
That guy had a couple of seasons of this, Cam
Newton did it. They're like hang out a helicopters. They
do all kinds of crazy stuff.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
They call it the World's Toughest test.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
So so world's toughest test, I mean Randall's is he
is he forty, he's late thirties right.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
Right at it. I'd say he's not there yet because
I think he's a little younger than me and I
just hit forty. But he's getting close.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Well.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
As just a little spoiler, there was some talk on
the NFL show Drew and I are gonna do that
he Randall might be the third guy, and uh, like
you know, like Hulk Cogan with the nWo. He was
gonna be potentially the third man, but they said he
would not be able to be here for the first
six to eight weeks. And I guess now we know
why because he's going to be out Special Force.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
And there's no doubt in my mind he is going
to win this thing. And we're seeing the other contestants
on there. It's like Jesse Smallett the.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Actors, is that the guy who faked get beat up?
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Yeah, Well we're going to see how tough he is.
I guess obviously not very tough. He got beat up?
Speaker 2 (24:21):
We got beat up?
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Yeah, And a bunch of like just random names that
you probably don't even recognize a few former NFL players.
That's all celebrities, Yes, I mean loosely celebrities. I mean
some of these names I've never even heard of before
reality Manziel in Manzel, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
That's that's a name I think.
Speaker 6 (24:39):
Yeah, well he's not the only one representing Kentucky. Britney
Cartwright also on there from Yeah Lexington's own I knew.
I knew Britney years ago, got super famous former Richmond
Hooters employee is now now. I feel like Randall copp
can beat her too.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Brittany, I feel like Randall can. I like it. She's nine,
We've are for many nurses college.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
Yeah, it is a I mean, Shandon's right, there are
some celebrities on there. You're like, well that person I
haven't thought of them in years. But it is quite
the cast of people that would be doing I was.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Gonna read off the names and I'm like, I don't
even who these nobody.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
Shawn Johnson, the gymnasts, right, Yeah, Yeah, it sounds like
a start.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Yeah, let's go. Randall Reed Shepherd was back working out
yesterday in the Kentucky Basketball Gym. Question for you is
the Reed Shepherd wearing the Arkansas shirt today of the game?
Is that like forgotten and forgiven?
Speaker 4 (25:33):
It was until you brought it up.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
I forgot forgot, so it once forgotten. I guess I
screwed that up. But uh, do you think fans? Do
you think they're gonna care about that? I mean, the
moment people said they would, do you think they care now?
Speaker 6 (25:47):
I didn't care at the time, but I can tell you,
and there's some people here that right on chaos board
with me, there is part of the fan base that
has not moved on. They've brought it up this week
when we have a post about because Dick Vitel's in
with it, we've shared that in the comments. Where where's
the Arkansas shirt? Where's the Arkansas shirt? So I think
it's a very small percentage, but it doesn't loud.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yes, Ryan, I did it, but it is out there.
Speaker 7 (26:09):
It definitely stung because that was game week. He can
make it all up this year. Just wear a Kentucky
shirt this year, you know, just flipping around if you
have to.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
It's not well, I'm not mad about it, but this
year's not the same. Last year was the moment like
like like.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Like the tensions were high.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
You know, we talked about the UK Arkansas game for months.
I really haven't thought about it until the schedule came out. Like,
I that was the moment. It's not I would argue Shannon,
and it's not the same this year. Yeah, you can
wear a Kentucky shirt this year. It doesn't really change
a lot.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
I'm with most fans. I didn't like it in the moment.
I've kind of moved on at this point, like I'm
okay with it now. I mean, I hope he doesn't
do it again, but.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
I hope he does it again.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Well that he's doubling down and then okay, and then
we're gonna remember it.
Speaker 7 (26:52):
He is working out at UK, not at Arkansas, so
you know he came back home to work out.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
I mean, what does your shirt say say? Meditation Matt
from Honeman? Is that him?
Speaker 4 (27:03):
Is that you? That's him?
Speaker 2 (27:05):
That's you? Oh, you're the guy in the garden, meditation
in the garden. I no, I thought you were gonna
be a lot older.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
His voice makes him sound like he's old.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
You got like a Madison thing going. I thought you
were like in your sixties or seventies. Okay, Well, that's good.
Though you look young for your age. How's that? Okay,
I'll tell you what I might bring you up in
a bit. I want to talk to you.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Meditating, matt that's all that meditating. That's why he looks
so young.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Yeah, you know what he actually is seventy four years old.
That's good. All right, who's up first?
Speaker 5 (27:39):
God, Brooke up first?
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Brook, Go ahead, Brook. Hi guys.
Speaker 9 (27:45):
So I've got two things.
Speaker 8 (27:47):
I've got one about the cemetery in Saint Matthew yesterday today.
It's in the shopping center off Breckenridge Lane and Dutchment Lane.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Breckinridge Lane.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
Yeah, deliver there.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
So there's that's where the cemetery is. Okay. Well, if
it's behind the McDonald's, then they're in a beautiful place
to uh to rest there, panera right.
Speaker 8 (28:12):
And then second, with these schools changeing from like say,
under armour to ninety, what do these athletes with.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
A lot of a lot of students, a lot of
the students the moment they graduate, put it on eBay
and sell it now. I mean I every if you
if you wait anytime a season ends, especially in football,
because a lot of these dudes are now transferring. Go
on eBay a few days after the season ends, and
(28:44):
there's a lot of gear on sale. Back before revs
shared and Nil, it happened even the person who beloved
UK the most would sell their gear. So yes, they
are allowed to sell it. It's their gear, you know,
I mean, And that's another thing to think about these contents.
I appreciates call. It's not insignificant that Nike produces uniforms,
(29:05):
practice gear, shoes, all of that for everyone, not just
for basketball but for football, for all the sports, and
that that is a large cost. I would think.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Yeah, and they tripled what uh Kentucky gets this year,
so they're gonna have all kinds of shoes and hoodies.
And there's there's actually a website now that Nil's out
where it's dedicated to players doing it. It's called like
the Trunk or something. C. J. Frederick posted his Cincinnati
and Iowa gear yesterday, so you can actually go find
a player and buy all their stuff. So they don't
even hide it on ebayes.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Or they like the gear, but they like money more,
is what I'm hearing.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Well, they have a lot of it. Well, I mean,
I know, I'll take you Max when when he went
back to Australia, he had so much UK gear like
he didn't even he couldn't even take it all, so
he he gave he gave a lot of it to
to kids in Lexington. So there's like a lot of
people probably walking around with Duffy football shirts because he
(29:57):
wear Dane stuff all the time.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
My closet is and Josie's called it is full of
dang key.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Here, you gave me something from a dang key visit.
I did have a shirt or.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
I mean, they get a lot of stuff, and so yeah,
I think that's that's true. What was her second question?
I'm not sure? Alright, who's next? Alan? Go ahead?
Speaker 9 (30:18):
Alan, Hey, guys, how you doing.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
I'm pulling ahead.
Speaker 9 (30:21):
I wanted to apologize for the profanity the other day.
I was on the due.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
You're the dude who said you understand of the words
you can say, you said the word you can say
the least.
Speaker 9 (30:34):
Yes, I apollow Josh for that. Like I said, I
thought the phone had disconnected, so my apologies will not
happen again.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
You thought the phone had disconnected with the first words
you said.
Speaker 9 (30:45):
No, I didn't know. I didn't realize that. I'm still
on the phone.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Okay, all right, we'll go ahead. Well I'll forgive you Okay.
Speaker 9 (30:52):
Thank you so much. A couple of things well, with
the football team. I was listening to Jeff mcclorel this
morning on the farm LEAs radio show show. Yeah, man,
I have to agree with him. I really think we
have a chance to be a big surprise for a
lot of teams, especially if we win that Ole Miss game.
We don't have the star power like we had in
(31:14):
the past, but we do have depth in it's all around,
so that's gonna aid us. Coincidentally, that applies to my
second point with the basketball team. Could you imagine, with
Colt and his staff, with the coaching acumen, if they
employed like a platoon system where each team with reserves no,
you could play different defenses and spress and just.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
I'm anti I put to the platoon year appreciate the
call was a lot of fun. I really loved it.
It was enjoyable, and we had an amazing amount of success.
But we have to get out of our mindset, Drew
that that is something we can continue to do. I
want you to just take a step back and think
about who was on that team Okay, you had Carl
(31:59):
Town's and Devin Book two of the twenty five best
players in the NBA were on that team. Tyler Yulss,
arguably one of the best college point guards we have
ever had, was on that team. The Harrison Twins, two
of the most clutch players we have ever had, were
on that team. I just named you five guys, and
I didn't even name our first team All American from
(32:19):
that team, which was Willie Cauley Stine. Trey Lyles is
still in the NBA from that team. So I just
named seven dudes that are on most teams they'd be
on at Kentucky, Ryan the best player that would be
on it. And there were seven of them on one team.
And by the way, the eighth, nineth, and tenth were
(32:41):
guys like Dakari Johnson, Alex Poythus, and Marcus Lee, not
exactly like terrible players. I love this group, but this
ain't the same thing. This isn't the same thing. This
is a group of dudes where I think the first
team is gonna be the best team, and I think
they're gonna be a lot better than the second team.
And hopefully members of the second team can get in
(33:03):
but Ryan, you can't act like twenty fifteen is something
that's replicable.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
That was fun. The platoon year was fun.
Speaker 7 (33:10):
It ain't ever gonna happen again ever, and it show
team ever will have that tent kind of talent again.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
And it should. I me remember, Devin Booker came off
the bench like like, it's it's I just we. I
would even argue that you could make a case when
we got to the tournament we shouldn't have platooned. Then
they probably should have only played seven or eight guys.
I love Marcus Lee, he probably shouldn't have been playing
by the time you got to that. Probably not, you know, Dakari,
probably not a ton of minutes. That's just me. But
(33:36):
you know, what do you think?
Speaker 8 (33:38):
No?
Speaker 6 (33:38):
I agree that it happened by accident. Cal kind of
had to make that up on the fly because Julisson
Booker committed to be the guys and then the Harrison
Twins said we'll come back, and Cal was like, oh,
I got a predicament, and he had to assure playing
time to keep you with some book around Sam with
the big guys when Willie was supposed to be gone
at that point, boy Thrist they even assumed might be gone.
So he had this recruiting class that thought it was
(33:58):
gonna be their show, and then everyone came back and
he managed to keep them together. But at that point
he had to keep everyone happy, and it just worked
out there.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
It was a great coaching job and it was a
great team. But no, I would not want to see
that uh that replete repeated. If I'm nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven would pay if you were
late August twenty, twenty twenty five. You've heard me talk
about a State Renovations Kentucky's go to high end home remodeling.
But here's something you may not know. If they go
over the promise projection completion date, Ryan, they'll give you
(34:24):
one hundred dollars every day they go over the date.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Nobody does that. Nobody guarantees that that's.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
That's right, that does sound good, that they'll do that
right now. They just drag and drag and draft. That's
how confident they are in the process. Kitchens, bathrooms, whole
home makeover they're all doing at a State Renovations a
State R e n O s dot com, a State
renos dot com slash KSR mention KSR. You get a
little bit off of when you met, when you book
(34:50):
your your your remodel a state renos dot com. They
mean it. And if they don't do the date, they say,
you get paid. We'll take a break and be right back.
We're here at sh RaSE fifty percent off during the
whole show, Shady Race. Here we go. Well the mag
it is good that you sports radio here alive at
Shady Rays. Shady Rays. They again Lexington Louisville locations. They
(35:13):
got some new blue and white. We can't call them Kentucky,
but they look like if they If they're not Kentucky,
they look like Kentucky. They got the blue and white
colors right in there. Uh they are on sale today.
Actually fifty everything is fifty percent off on shades. I'm
gonna be I've given some away already. Uh to a kid,
I said, go sign up. He won. The moment he won,
he left, which I don't think was very nice. He came,
(35:37):
look look how my goodness, seriously, you look like you
could be a villain in an eighties movie right now
with us? That's right, all right? If I'm nine two
eighth twenty two eighty seven, Shady Rays Shady rays dot
com best sunglasses in their uh company started right here
in Kentucky. Ryan, I wanna say one thing that met
(35:58):
bummed me out. You remember we played a few weeks
ago some people we got kids who was here from
Bell County. Somebody came up here and told me Belle
count Yes, shoot from Bell County. You know we had that.
That dude from Middlesbrough was on America's Got Talent Bill
Taylor and what were they called the Hicks or something
Bill Taylor. He but he'll Billy Heathens, that's right. So
I learned something that kind of made me mad. All right.
(36:20):
So you know they got the thing of now you
get to go to Hollywood, right, and you would think, well, Drew,
what do you get to do get to go to Hollywood?
They literally said you get to go to Hollywood. Turns
out they tell one hundred people they get to go
to Hollywood, but only forty four get to go to Hollywood.
(36:40):
That's means how mean is that? So he put out
video he and the Heathens don't get to go to Hollywood.
Now apparently if you go to the American Maker has
Got Talent. Social media sites, they had the most views
of any video, so you would think you would send
them to Hollywood. Maybe they're scared of He'll Billy's in Hollywood.
Don't know, but Bill Taylor doesn't get to go. And
(37:02):
I'm sorry to see that because I was excited to
watch my Middlesborough brethren Ryan play in Hollywood.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
Extremely shady.
Speaker 7 (37:10):
They invite you in a shady ray at shady Rays,
they invite you. Then they pulled the rug from underneath you,
and they deserved it. Like you said, they've got the
most used, obviously very popular. I think they would want
the most popular people there in Hollywood.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
And how are you going to televise them being told
they're going to Hollywood and then not to send them
to Hollywood.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
I don't know. Maybe they maybe they met Hollywood Florida
and they didn't.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
They You can go to Hollywood, just got to buy
your own ticket and.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
You don't get to be on the show. But of
course you're welcome to be in Hollywood. I don't like it.
I was happy for those folks. I was gonna root
them on. I was good. You know, America's got talent.
I was gonna be publicizing your show for weeks. Not
now you couldn't make me watch your stupid jugglers the
rest of the season because you're not sending Bill Taylor
and Hillbilly Heathens.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
So does it mean they're eliminated or they're just not
able to go to Hollywood for the next face.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Bill's video was long. I couldn't I couldn't totally follow,
but it sounded like he wasn't in the contest anymore.
Speaker 7 (38:02):
So your chances are slim if they don't even invite
you to Hollywood.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
I don't know if they let you win from home.
I think you actually have to go.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
But that like they didn't win, but they didn't lose either.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
No, they're out. I think they're out.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
They're like purgatory.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
But again, his video was convoluted, But but he doesn't
get to go to Holly. So I'm so now, when
you watch America's Got Talent and they go you get
to go to Hollywood? No? No, yet they're dirty liars
and you might not get to go to Hollywood.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
No you don't. Yes, I'm Boycotty Dan in Middlesbrough.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
I never watched it before.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
That was that was me? Uh all right, So I
had somebody write me last night with the question Drew,
and I think this is good because we talked about
Travis Perry, and then it also applies to somebody that
mister Hawaiian shirt here cares about to the question, was
Matt forget about when they play Kentucky just in general,
when a guy leaves Kentucky, are you cheering for them?
(38:55):
So let's talk about in the form of football, dang
Key berry On. Let's leave aside that we know Dane
and we want him to succeed because we know him.
But when a football player leaves Kentucky and goes to
up and could have stayed, so this isn't pushed out
the door, could have stayed. Do you root for him
(39:15):
at the new place? Do you want to see barry
On Brown return kicks for touchdowns for LSU? And if
we didn't know him, would you want to see Dame
Key with that stupid corn on his head scoring in Nebraska?
Speaker 6 (39:30):
It's weird, I think, and maybe this isn't the way
to be. I feel like I will root for people
from Kentucky, not just because I know Dane, but same
with Travis. I don't know him that well, but if
they're not, I don't care like I won't root for
Barryon Brown, but I really will root for Dane. And
I don't really know why that is. Might just be because
he's local and I want him to do well. But
almost if barry On Brown goes there and becomes a
(39:52):
star and he's returning kicks, I'm gonna get upset. We
didn't get more of that in Lexington.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Barry On Brown, by the way, was named by I
think ESPN first preseason All American kick returner, So you
know they're obviously expecting him to do well, right And
I know, I mean, you're gonna be cheering for Dame,
but like, would you cheer for Barryon?
Speaker 7 (40:12):
Okay, well, take Day out of the picture. I absolutely
will cheer for Baryon.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (40:16):
Because he was here for for three years, we kind
of got to know him a little bit as a person.
I think he's really a good guy. I would cheer
for him. I won't cheer for Travis Perry every game
but the Kentucky game.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
So what about I mean, you do, to some extent
know those people. So let's say let's say Alex Safari
had left and gone to you know, Georgia, would you
cheer for Alexafari.
Speaker 7 (40:38):
Probably not as much because I don't know him. You're right,
you know, Barryon's been to my house. Alexanfari. I think
I would cheer for him, but not as openly as
maybe that will for Baryon.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
I'm not cheering for any of these guys.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
I know you're going.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
I mean like I won't be watching a whole lot
of Nebraska games. I mean I wish Dane well and
success there, but I won't be watching, so I really
won't be caring.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
What the interesting question is if old Miss is playing
LSU on a random Wednesday night on esp and U
and you flip the game on and Travis is in
the game, do you want him to make shots? That's
the question they answer you always yes, I do.
Speaker 6 (41:14):
Okay, for sure, I want him to have a great
career at all Miss, just not against Kentucky. I think
it's something with they'll come back to Kentucky when what
Kentucky is to do well, you know, we all rank
the best people from here. I really think it's just
where they're from. For me, like if Cutter Bowley will
leave and I don't want that to happen, but say
next year he goes off, I would be for cutter.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Bowley, but I don't know the two route for CJ.
Frederick at Cincinnati. To be honest, I forgot he was out. Yeah,
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
Most of these guys, we'll forget they're even there.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
Yeah, it is weird, like I'm I'm pulling for day
because I know it. But I'm gonna have mixed emotions
if I mean, ELSU plays Alabama, It's prime time ABC,
Kirk Herb Street. He returns the kick and people are like, bro,
he the best kick returner. I don't know why I'm
doing but dick my tail, but he's the.
Speaker 5 (42:02):
Best kickback turner I ever.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
I'm gonna have mixed emotions because I'm gonna be like,
we sure could have used him earlier today when we
lost to Mississippi. You know it would have been nice.
We'll take a break, be right back here at Shady Rays.
