Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones welcome back.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I re number two Kentucky Sports Radio. If I'm nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, the text machine
is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
There's some big breaking news. Let's throw it out there.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Do I need the breaking news?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yes, one Er UK and JMI have re signed a
six year extension to their media rights deal. It will
be fifteen years and estimated four hundred and sixty five
million dollars. It's an amazing amount of money. But you, JMI,
(01:42):
will take on new responsibilities. I think this is the
key takeaway I'm gonna read. This is from John Hale's
article in The Herald Leader. Under the terms the agreement,
UK will get eighty percent of all revenue from inventory
and advertising opportunities. That's probably normal, JMI. This is the
interesting part to me. Jam I will take over responsibility
(02:06):
for negotiating name, image and likeness endorsement deals for UK athletes,
taking over what previously was run by Club Blue. There
will be a new subscription service run by JAMI called
BBN United. Hmm, well all right, uh yeah, I don't know.
(02:32):
I gotta I gotta think about this before I have
strong opinions I have strong opinions. Do you want them?
I mean, have you? Have you? Have you thought about
them before you? Before you?
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Every time I do a rapid reaction in tendergree weather
on the sidewalk, I think about it.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, we'll go for it.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Then.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
No, Honestly, with the collective thing, I do worry about
having your collective affiliated with the school. I'm not saying
we need to cheat, but other schools they get in
the gray area with their collectives.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, he told us all gets polished up. At least
I think that. Okay, So I don't know how to
disc I don't know how to explain this because I'm
gonna have to kind of explain what it's been. This
is not what I what I thought I was gonna
do day. We were gonna have fun. But let me
give you the basics, Okay, and then and Drew knows this.
So I'm gonna talk to Drew, but he already knows.
(03:20):
Le let me explain to you how this was done
for the last two years, and then how it will change.
What would happen for two years in the last two
years is if Mark Pope wanted Shannon the Dude to
play basketball. Mark Pope would get Shannon the Dude, and
Shannon the Dude would commit to Mark Pope with an
(03:41):
understanding that Shannon the Dude would then have to be
reach another agreement with Club Blue for the amount of money,
and if Club Blue and Shannon the Dude couldn't reach
that amount of money, Shannon the Dude could go somewhere else.
But Club Blue played a key role. I would argue,
it's the difference. It was like in pro sports what
(04:03):
a GM and a coach does, right. A coach can
want you to come, but ultimately it's the GM to
do the contract, and Club Blue was the GM, and
I genuinely thought the person that worked for Club Blue
did an amazing job. I think when this roster takes
the floor next year, Mark Pope should get round of
applause number one. But standing in the background is gonna
(04:25):
be a person that nobody knows who they are except
a handful of people, and they should get the second
round of applause, and they won't because nobody knows who
they are and they don't really want people to know.
But it's just true, and that second person played a
key role. I got win that this was coming a
(04:45):
couple of weeks ago, and I'll freely admit I'm worried
about it. I'm not gonna I want to be very
careful to not like freak out because we'll see, and
I want to give everybody a chance. But now that role,
which was the role of Club Blue, will now be JMI.
(05:08):
JMI is now gonna be negotiating those deals. By the way,
this is what all schools are now going. They're gonna
have a role. But what I think most schools are
doing is they are hiring an individual who is good
at playing that role. Our club Blue guy is to
be that for UK. I wanted the club Blue guy
(05:29):
Shedding to have that role for UK. I wanted UK
to hire him. He probably makes too much money, to
be honest with you, he probably doesn't want to do it,
but that's what I wanted. I wanted him to be
our GM of sports because he's smart and I just
knew he could do it. JMI is now gonna do it.
The question is do you have confidence in JMI to
(05:52):
be our GM. We'll see. I mean, I'm not gonna
say they can't. But I've had to deal with Jmi
as much as anybody on Earth except the people at UK.
It's not been a great relationship the vast majority of
the time. I want it to be a good relationship.
(06:14):
I have tried multiple times, we have met multiple times.
I'd love to meet again. I'd love to make stuff
work the JM. I first of all, it's a lot
of money. UK is getting a lot of money here.
UK is going to be if you're worried about UK
(06:35):
having money, They're gonna have the money. They ain't gonna
be too many schools in the country that's gonna get
that amount of money. I mean, what are we looking at?
Ten year, fifteen years, four hundred and sixty five million dollars?
What's the math on that? Three fifty that's over thirty
million dollars a year. All right, you just paid for
your repshare. I mean, you just paid for your repshare
(07:00):
right there. But I have always thought Jaymi was like
a step behind. Now they better be a step forward
because they are now entering the business of They're doing
everything for UK. They're selling the ads, they're negotiating the players.
(07:24):
Everything is now, Jami. When you're talking about UK Athletics,
it's now UK Athletics and JMI JMI is now in
the business they've always been in, but they are in
the business of advertising, like JAMI. If they're negotiating these deals,
they're gonna basically own the players rights. I worry. I mean,
(07:50):
this is this is weed stuff. But can we do
weed stuff here for a second? And then we'll talk
about Tyres Maxie and his cannon. Let's say UK has
an official car dealership deal with Matt's Cars. Okay, Matt's
Cars is the only car dealership that can advertise with UK.
(08:11):
Let's say they go get Shannon the dude is a player.
Are they gonna tell Shannon the dude the only nil
deals you can sign are with Matt's Cars. In the past,
they weren't able to do that because the collective was
outside of the school. But now if they do it
and Shannon has Bob's Cars over here saying I'll give
(08:31):
you two million dollars and JMI and UK say no,
then Shannon might go to Louisville so he keeps his freedom. Yeah,
that's what I worry about here. I worry that they're
going to try to keep everything in house. If you're
not a JMI advertiser, then players can't do advertising for
(08:52):
you and we streamline everything through that, and then we
lose players. That's what I worry about, and it's what
I worried about when I first heard of this arrangement
couple weeks ago. It's still what I worry about, because
you know, these players. We got to get players right.
And if we make it to where these players can't
(09:12):
cut a deal with another partner, will that hurt us?
I don't know. So you know, for better or worse,
richer or poor till death do us part UK Athletics
and JMI are married now, not just in who puts
these radio games on, who puts the Big Blue Madness on.
They are now partnered on getting players. I don't know
(09:39):
if Jami has any experience getting players. The guy that
used to do it does professional athlete contracts. He knew
how to get players. Do these people? I guess we'll
find out. So I'm glad you k's getting that money.
(10:00):
But if you want to say Matt Jones is nervous
about something for the future of UK sports, this is
the thing to be worried about. Mark Pope, as good
as Mark Pope is, at the end of the day,
if the money and the negotiation is not there. It's
not gonna matter. Right if Shoeo Tani loves Terry Francona,
if the Rants don't pay him, he ain't coming right.
(10:24):
Same thing here and do what do you do? You
agree with all I do?
Speaker 4 (10:28):
And it seems, unless I'm proven wrong, the rival schools
aren't getting rid of their outside collectives. So as you're
saying you're worried about, you know them kind of monopolizing
what you know, local businesses they can use to the
Tennessees of the world.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
We know how messy they get.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
I'm not saying you need go out cheat with collectives,
but I do think there needs to be an outside
option where they can you know, have more more deals
they can sign and all that, and not be limited
to what Jami wants them to do. I don't know
that any other school is keeping all their at least
the ones on our radar that is, keeping all their
nil with their media rights like UK is. Now, I
think you need the outsiders.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know. Now
could it work. I'm not gonna say it can't. Maybe
you know, maybe I'm wrong, but I have personally tried
over the years to come up with new creative arrangements
(11:26):
to help a lot of things that would have been
beneficial to us. I'm not gonna acte like they wouldn't,
but also would have been beneficial to uk UK student athletes.
And I have always found it difficult and I hope
it works out. This roster in basketball this year was
(11:50):
people don't understand what a jigsaw puzzle it is, right,
And this is how it's gonna be every year going forward.
And you better have somebody who's good at jigsauce right,
or good at rubekscub or whatever analogy you want to use,
because this is complicated stuff. And you know, all right,
(12:19):
So I mean, I'm learning this on the air. Here's
let me just give you another example. And this is
a little thing, but here are the examples of how
you've got to be forward thinking. And I'll make this
message directly to UK and to the folks now, JMI,
we're learning this live on the air. A proactive media
(12:40):
response would have been Shannon to give us this hint
the night before. Yeah, talk us through what's happening, so
that we're not learning live on the air and reacting.
By the way, that's what they used to do. They
used to tell me in the night before and go, okay,
you can't put this out, but I want you to
understand what's happen happening so that when you talk about
(13:02):
it on the air, you're informed, right, And I don't
think like that. They don't think like that. They used
to do that with all the media. They would sit
there and say, okay, media, here's the announcement tomorrow. Do
you have questions, We'll answer them that way when you
tell the people the information you've got it. They don't
(13:23):
think like that anymore. So everything I said to you
is my natural reaction. Could it be wrong? I guess
it could. I don't think it is, but I guess
it could. But I learned it as you did.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
And they said their their hand is and everything. Now,
so we're almost UK slash JMI fans. Do we start
chanting JMI again?
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Here's like JMI. They are the UK sports or over
lords now. And let me ask you a question, who
even I mean, I do, but do fans even know
who they are?
Speaker 4 (13:59):
No?
Speaker 3 (14:01):
So when when when Mitch martn arn't made the decision
to create this Champion's Blue and all this we are
taking our public UK sports and they are now, for
the most part, outside of Mitch, going to be run
by people that the general fan doesn't know, and we're
gonna get the results of their decisions and we're not
gonna know who they are. So, you know, I hope
(14:25):
it works. I'm not negative about it, but I'm also
like what we were doing with well, I've already forgotten
the name of it. I do adds on Champions Champions
Blue right, club book Club Blue? Excuse me? That was
kind of work. It's pretty good actually, and I think
(14:46):
they should have found a way to make that work. Well,
this new thing work. Hope it does. Am I nervous? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:56):
I hope they don't take away the fun stuff. You
know Club Boo has a bourbon, the beer. I mean,
well they just said they're taking it over and that's
in the press room. Yeah, but I mean some of
the stuff Club Blue is really doing a good job.
I'm sorry stuff doesn't go on. Blue is in two
years done an amazing job?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Is it gonna be the JM I beer? Now? Is
that what they put that on the label?
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Yeah, it's a good thing. You got that chick Club Blue.
That's gonna be burbon. If you got that club blue bourbon,
it's gonna be it's gonna be a rare fan. That's
exactly right, cornbreadhip dot com. If you need to rest relax,
I may have to after those announcements. Cornbread hip dot com.
Full spectrum, flour only, HEMP, CVD, gummies, lotions, oils. It's
(15:35):
all there at Cornbread Himp and now of course the
seltzer that helps make you to where you're enjoying yourself
with no hangarover. Check it out. It is cornbreadhimp dot com.
We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. A five nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven. All right, this is a
fair question of the text machine seven seven two seven
seven four five two five for one person rights. Matt,
(15:55):
you just explain your worries. Can you give us the
upside of the jmout deal question and fair because you
know you don't just want to say nega right, here's
the upside. The upside is it's a lot of money.
I would think I don't know that. I would think
thirty plus million dollars in guaranteed money A year for
a media deal is up there for a local media
(16:17):
deal is up there for UK amongst the highest teams
in the country. I mean I I don't know offhand
that anybody makes more than that from their local media deal. However,
JMI has the ability to do stuff the other schools
don't do, Like, for instance, if you walk on campus,
if you see an AD anywhere on campus for anything,
I'm not just talking sports, if you see an AD
in the students center, like JMI is the one that decides,
(16:41):
like what restaurants can be in the students center, like
they run everything now at UK. So, but that's a
lot of money. So the upside one is probably a
substantial substantial amount of money. Number two is if done effectively,
having all this in one place might be a positive
(17:02):
if you can pitch to you know, I'm just gonna
pick a local business, uh UPS, you get Mark Pope
and the players. You could see how UPS might pay
a premium for that, right, So it could be effective
if you do it well. Another positive is, you know,
(17:29):
I mean, those are the positives. So I mean there
are you know there there there are If it's done well,
I could see it work. I am nervous about it.
You know, it's just me and I would say to you,
you know, I think this will We'll see, we'll see.
(17:52):
I'm I like I said, I'd heard this was potentially
down the pat Pike, and I thought they're not gonna
do that, And now we are, so well hopefully. Here's
why it's also to Jami. Look, I'd love to I'd
love to chat with you. I'd love to have one
of them on here and talk about the details, because
I do think when you haven't, when you have something
(18:13):
like this, you need to let the fans know. Like
Mitch did a really good job when he was on
here the other day talking about our position about all that,
and even where I disagreed with him, I thought he
explained it pretty well. Probably the case that that needs
to happen, either through Mitch or with the Jay Ofi
people now again.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Yeah, because sometimes there's issues, not even this night, in
big ones where we're coming on it and they'll be like,
we got this wrong. It's like, well, you haven't told
anyone anything. Yeah, so we're just taking pieces together.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Yeah, And I'm sure somebody will call me today and
say you got this or that wrong. Fair enough I'll
come on here tomorrow and give the give the other side.
This is just my initial reaction right now.
Speaker 6 (18:50):
Josh, go ahead, Josh, Josh, all right, let's go to
Dave and Louisville.
Speaker 7 (18:59):
Dave, how you a fellow done today? Doing good, good good.
I've got a couple of things here. I got a
buddy of mine. He's the biggest Louisville homer that you
can ever imagine. Anyway, he went to Mark Stoops's camp here.
I think it's a couple of weekends ago, and his
daughter is a special need kid. And he was telling
(19:20):
me that Mark Stoops when his staff, was the nicest
person ever. He said he couldn't ask for a better person.
He said Stoops took time with him kids he couldn't believe.
And he said he told the Stuts he said, I'll
be rooting for you every game except to the one
against Louisville. And I thought that was very funny.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
And it doesn't surprise me. That doesn't surprise me. This
coaching staff and the football team throughout the last however
many years, has been great with all kids. But I
have specifically seen with special needs kids the way they
make it. You know, a priority when it comes to
the way people, whether they are special needs, veteran and children, uh,
(20:01):
senior citizens. I have always thought the football staff has
done an amazing job, and Mark Pope does an amazing
job too, So I'm glad to hear that, but it
doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 7 (20:10):
Go ahead, yes, and one more thing. My assistant law
she's a big beer ripper. I'm not gonna say who
it is, but anyway, she brought me to the shirt
today because I'm going to my cancer thing. I think
I told you that as this. Anyway, the shirt says
says cancer sucks and so does the Cardinals, and it's
in blue and I just love it. I mean the
shirt is I love it too. It comes from comes
(20:32):
from Shirley's Way, and I implore people to buy the
shirt because I mean it just every time I'm wear
it makes me cry where it to my cancer stuff
and it's just pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
So while you're getting your treatment, you're still l's down.
I like it. Thank you, sir. I appreciate the call absolutely.
Thank you. Peanut. Go ahead, peanut.
Speaker 8 (20:54):
How you guys doing doing good?
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Oh Peanut, this is not you can't just like stretch
out like this we gotta go when you's your turn.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
I understand, I'm I'm crippled here. I was trying to
get up at anyway. That Tyre snyey thing is crazy.
Why don't he's a mean or why don't he had
an electric can't open it?
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Well, he might not know how to run that ether.
I don't think like I mean, so, Peanut, here's the thing.
I know. It's looks so people don't know. Tyres Maxie
got on a live Instagram and ask people how to
work a can opener and everybody's making fun of me.
Pean up between me and you. It took me a
(21:41):
while to learn it. I did. I figured it out, mhm.
But I remember the first time, by the way, wasn't that.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Long ago, two weeks ago?
Speaker 3 (21:54):
I kind of was like, where do I attach it
and turn? I finally figured it out, and I didn't
get help because I was like you, Peanut, I always
had an electric one, and if you've never operated a
hand one and you don't know how, like I could
see how it might be confusing.
Speaker 8 (22:13):
Yeah, I mean, it looked like he had a pretty
decent one, but he just didn't even know how to
connect it. But you do have to have a good one.
Some of them are terrible.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Yeah, some of them are terrible. Peanut, Where do you
live in Florida? Again?
Speaker 5 (22:24):
By the way, I live about thirty minutes west of Orlando.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
That's right, all right, well, I hope I hope to
see you again soon and thank you for calling. All right, yes, sir,
appreciate it. It was what'd you think of the video, Shannon?
Speaker 2 (22:43):
I had a good laugh. But you know, not everybody
grows up learning how to do simple what I would
call a simple thing.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
You know that that's a manual can opener is not
a simple thing.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
It is very simple. I don't he was turning it vertically, Like,
how in the world do you think logically, if you
turn that they vertically, it's going to connect to that
can and you're going to open it. And he was
turning the can upside down. It's the same on both sides.
It doesn't matter which side the can you really open.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Tyre's have been there, all right. I ultimately got it,
But I will agree with you if you've never been
in the can opening business, it can be difficult. So
I feel you Tyre's. I thought it was a wholesome video.
I did too, and he was asking for his fans. More.
People need to admit they don't know things exactly right.
(23:31):
Jimmy Right. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll
make them.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Pay now more. Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones walking.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Back Turkey Sports Radio. People are taking up for Tyrese Max.
One person says, Matt, that was a pampered chef can opener.
They're different. They're on the top of the can, not
the side. Shannon might not know how to use that
at all.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
A pampered can.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
I guess it's a brand paper chef.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Sorry, no, I don't know. I've never had a can.
I couldn't get into it.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Sounds like maybe if you if you had done a
video like Tyrese MAXI, you would have had the same
This was.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
The thing, though, I would not have gone live on Instagram.
I would have gone to YouTube. And actually like that.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
I think that's kind of humbling. It's like I don't
know everything.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
You know, Yeah, but I don't need to tell everybody too.
Speaker 8 (24:23):
Me.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
People would get embarrassed over stuff. You don't know how
can it works, You don't know how I can overwork what.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
If I do on this show. You don't know how
something works, It's fine, just say it like it makes
it to where I say all the time, like I
don't know how to change a tire. I don't really
know how to.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Swim quotation marks.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
You know.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I liked he's again. I thought it was wholesome. He's like,
normally my chef does this. My dog needs to be fed.
Help I'm being vulnerable in this moment.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Help me out the other people think that I'm stupid.
Then open my mouth and remove all doubt.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Yeah, I'm alright with it. You know, that's part that's
part of living in today's uh, today's media age. One
person writes, Matt, you sounded uh bitter talking about Jay Andmi.
It's not bitter. I'm just giving you my suggestion. It
really has nothing to do with with with me. We're
gonna be fine either way, right, Like, there's always gonna
(25:17):
be you know, it's like there's always gonna be the
need for an outside, unofficial UK media source because otherwise
everything is just the like you, so I'm not worried
about that. I want UK to win, okay, I want
you K to win and so that's my only thing.
But we'll see what happens. I'm I'm eager to know
(25:40):
more about it. I think it would have been smart
to let people have a heads up because I am
questioning about one person, writes the Alan Cutler has already
released his pre show tweet that says no filter monologue
coming about Matt Jones and UK football.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Oh more, I'm not gonna be able to listen to it.
You're gonna tell me what it says. Well, okay, try
to run to my car.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Yeah, I can't believe you care.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
I care because I wonder how you can go forty
minutes and not have a commercial.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Nobody pays for your show.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
That's no, but it's still pretty impressive commercial. The big
story is Taylor Swift is going on the tras Travis
Kelsey podcast. She's also releasing a new album. But you know,
I know Swifties love that. I want to talk about
the podcast thing for a minute. What are the chances
(26:41):
this is the most listened to podcast of all time?
Speaker 4 (26:43):
That was my first thought. Ok, it's probably true. It's happening, Shannon,
most listened to podcast of all time.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
I don't know what the current most.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Listener Williams and Shannon, I say.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
This is gonna shatter that whatever that number is. Yeah,
of all the Swifties, that's that's a fan base you
do not mess with.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
And I'm gonna listen to it, and I don't listen
to her or I just it's like it's gonna be
like a cultural Let me ask you a question. If
they put that on television live eight o'clock in prime time,
don't you think that would get insane ratings? Just put
them on television talking to or don't you think Shannon
(27:23):
that would be insane ratings?
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Yep. I can't say I would watch it, but I'm
sure there's millions of people who would.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
I mean, it'll be the most listened to podcast of
all time. It's gonna shatter whatever the U two I
think it is. Cam Williams and Shadon Shadon.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Sharp, Kat Williams, Cam Williams watch.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Podcast. So it is Shade and Sharp with our player
this year, Cam Williams. You think that's well, they could
do like a copycat. Cam Williams telling you everything he's
getting exposed in twenty twenty five, Cam Williams and Shadon Sharp.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Okay, to my knowledge, she doesn't do anything like this,
so even her bigger fans don't get the he's this
personality and the storytelling out of her that that she's
gonna Would.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
You want to do a podcast with your girlfriend, Shannon? No?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Would you?
Speaker 7 (28:08):
Well?
Speaker 2 (28:08):
I don't have I mean you're a theoretical girlfriend in Austin.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Yeah, I don't know. I know, No, I think that
would be now granted, because she's gonna case. In his case,
she's a lot more famous than he is, so it's
a little different she's doing.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Not that they need it, but this is a pretty
big favorite of their podcast, announcing her next album on there,
because every Swifty in this Swifty universe is going to
tune in for that. Yeah, already has if it dropped
this morning.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
You think it'll be sweet to watch him be in
love Shannon? Don't want that? Warm your heart?
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Oh yeah, so warm? So they're doing that live like
a live podcasts.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
They've already done it. I think they're just releasing it tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
So if anybody said anything that they don't like, they
can just edit that out, because that would be one
thing if you're doing a podcast with your girlfriend. She
gets a little too personal the podcast, you could take
that out. You know, it's not live radio. Maybe I
would do a podcast, but not live radio because you
don't know what they're gonna say.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Are you worried your girlfriend would say something bad about it?
She would?
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Yeah. Well, to somebody that you spend all that time
with is going to know more about you than anybody,
and there's maybe details that you don't want the world
to know.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Be interesting. I'm looking for I actually want to, uh
want to see it. Another person writes Matt Summervilley over
after last night. Well, no, but it's I'm worried. We're
I'm worried we're going to go oh and six this week.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Braves have got the Mets covered.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
You better. I'm worried we're gonna go.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
With five out of seven over the Metals.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Last night was our game to win. I don't know
if you saw it. We were up one nothing, Andrew
Rabbits rolling like he's like strike, strike, pop out. You know,
we're rolling two outs. Top of the seventh, eighth hitters up.
He gets two strikes immediately, if he gets one more strike,
he's probably gone. We put our closer in the ninth.
(30:01):
We win the game. Guy gets like a little flair hit.
Then the ninth hitter is up. I think you gotta
leave him in against the ninth hitter, right, it's the
ninth hitter, he said, gets in the gap double ties
the game. At that point, you gotta take him out
because the top of the lineup's coming up. I think
it's Trey Turner for Philadelphia. Is that a person? He's
(30:26):
good guy? Take it, take him out. They leave him.
Turner gets another hit. Now we're down. Then they take
him out. New guy comes in first pitch to run
home run, and game's over. But I contend it should
have been one. All he needed was one more strike,
and so I was. I was pretty bummed out. I'm
(30:46):
not gonna lie to you last night. That's a tough one.
I don't think we're done, but we we're gonna We
might lose every game during this homestand and then it's
probably over.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Were they filling the pressure of Snoop Dogg about to
set up his concert. Maybe people were leaving because Snoop
Dogg was about so well. There were people, they were
saying on the radio. There were people still getting there
at like sixth seventh inning, which is really just saying, Channon,
we did not come here for the baseball.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
For the concert.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Yeah, I mean like when people are still coming in
in the seventh inning, you're like, did you all not
care at all? Like the baseball game is the opener
for Snoop? It was the baseball Well when does Snoop
actually go on? That's what I'm gonna get. That's what
I think happened. So, I mean that was it was
a bummer. I thought last night was the one for
us to get and we didn't, So why had the Mets?
(31:33):
So I'm rooting for you. That suck le's go to Adam,
go ahead at him.
Speaker 9 (31:38):
Hey, Matt, I hope you'll just let me go for
a bit. I used to work for Learfield IMG, which
I know isn't JMI, but it's very similar. As far
as the media rights deals, I always feared that this
was going to happen. And the reason why is when
everything's under UK, I don't understand why these big schools
(32:00):
like UK won't bring the media rights just in the
house and do it themselves. I know there's a huge
amount of money given to them, but the amount of
money that they don't have to pay a METEA rights
partner would be recouped, you know. And also JMI represents
other schools, so as JMI if they're going to handle
the collective, you know, and a player wants to go
(32:22):
to Kentucky or they also represent UCLA, Like, how is
that going to work out?
Speaker 5 (32:28):
Things like that?
Speaker 9 (32:29):
Like UK does not need to need to be splitting
the student athletes pot with a meteor rights partner, like
it should be going to.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
I didn't even think about that point. If you're recruiting
against a school that is also a JMI school, how
does that work and just drop it up for themselves
and not have a care actually going against themselves. I'm
sure that there's something in the provision that says they're
(33:06):
quartered off. But that's a really interesting question, you know, Shannon.
If I am down to two schools UK, U, C
l A, I mean.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Yeah, then it's all one and the same. So then
you just set that aside.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Well, if you're JMI, you're like, we get them either way,
or maybe they one school's doing by the other and
they want to throw a bone to the other one
that's not Kentucky to level it out. All the media
rights aren't going as well. At UCLA. Maybe if they
get the number one player in America, more people will
want to buy stuff for their basketball game, and UK
(33:47):
basketball will be fine either way.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Yeah, we've already gotten Kentucky four guys. This fifth guy,
why don't we send him somewhere else?
Speaker 2 (33:56):
It's quite a twist.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
I mean, yeah, I didn'tven think about it.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Don't they have like Georgia Notre Dame and I know football,
We're probably.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Not like, let's give from something. Clark's Pumping Shop, Clark's Rewards.
Don't commit a party foul. Get tailgate ready at Clark's
Pumping Shop. They got everything you need for your tailgate,

the Bluegrass. It's Clark's Pumping Shop. Return refresh, refuel. We'll
(34:53):
take a break. Be right back, Tucky Sports Radio. Welcome back,
Tekey Sports Radio. If I'm not two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven, text machine is seven seven two seven
seven four five two five four one person rights, Matt.
I do not think Shannon could use the modern can openers.
(35:16):
They're nothing like the other ones. He might be able
to figure it out, but it's harder than he thinks.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
The modern ones. What do you mean by modern ones?
Speaker 8 (35:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
I don't know what the other ones are.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I thought there was only I mean, I know there's
an electric can opener and then your regular hand can opener.
I didn't know there was modern ones.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Apparently there are modern ones. Let's real quick. UK volleyball.
It's not something we talked about a ton on the show.
Uh they announced So somebody put out all the money
that is spent by each school on volleyball. Where would
you think Kentucky is nationwide in amount of money spent
on volleyball compared to other schools. Remember we won a
(35:54):
national championship few years yeah, yeah, so I seem to
win the SEC every year. So how in terms of
spending money? I'm volleyball. Where do you think UK ranks
national top ten?
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, I was gonna say top ten as well.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
I would agree there Knner gets great players. Eleventh, okay, eleventh,
Louisville's thirteenth. That's another team that's competed for national championships.
Nebraska's first by quite a bit. No, it's huge there,
and then Wisconsin's like second. Those are the two schools
I think where it's the biggest. But Kentucky, you guys
said top ten. I was a little surprised, just because
(36:30):
I didn't realize we were doing that. I mean, I
know we won a national championship, and I know we're
really good. There are people who know UK volleyball that
tell me this team is one of Skinner's best, might
be his second best next to the national championship team
a few years ago.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
I don't know much about their budget or what they spend,
but just knowing where their stars have come from in
big volleyball areas, I assume they're having to do pretty well.
Like Madison Lily a few years ago. She came from Kansas,
I believe, but she's in a hot bed of volleyball there.
To get her to come here, you know, taking people
from Texas. It seems they get a lot of players
from all over that are really talented.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Yeah, I mean, I think they play their first something
this weekend. I don't know if it's like their version
of Midnight Madness or whatever it is, but they have
something this weekend. So it's their fan day. It's their
fan day. When is it? Because I think one of
the things I've heard is that the girls on the
women's volleyball team are like the best with little kids that.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
They're at this Saturday at eleven, Yeah, the Saturday at eleven.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
I've been to Skinner's camp as a spectator with some
a family friend that was there and just seeing it
they I mean, I don't know much about volleyball or
how fun a girls camp should be, but you could
tell it was a lot of fun for them and
how good they were with the goods too. So I mean,
there's no doubt Skinner's got it running on all cylinders.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Over there by the way, the ks Bar dinner we
sold out by before the like right as the show ended.
So thank you to the uh all the people that
are coming. That should be fun. We open August twenty six.
We still have some spots for hiring, especially if you're
someone that you know can use can openers and would
like to work as as a cook. But we also
(38:15):
need a couple more servers. But that training starts. They
asked me, Shannon, to write a so you know, we
got some advice on restaurant stuff from a couple of
very successful restaurant owners here in Lexington. One of their
advice's advices. Part of their advice was when people come in,
(38:37):
tell the have the server, if they've never been, tell
a quick story about the restaurant, like what is this?
I like that, So I'm supposed to write that, like
just it needs to be it only be like eight
or ten seconds. So I'm writing what is the story.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Of ten seconds? That's going to be a quick story.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Well, you got things want to sit down. They're not
sitting there for a nighttime chat. They want to out
on the tables and food.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
So it's this bar Kentucky Sports Bar Welcome.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Yeah, but like you want to say, hey, this is
the new renovation. Look over there, look at that, like
point out to people things that have changed, you know, Shannon,
that kind of course.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Yeah, I was a great server at Outback steakhouse. That's
what I would look at the bluemin Onion.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
You served it out back, you served it both places
I've served, we called it the spill.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
You had to do it.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
You had to have your your intro and sometimes a
secret shopper if you didn't do your intro, and then
the manager'd be like, I had to ask you where
you know.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
To a place? Have you ever been here before the
answer is yes, they don't tell you the store.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
I want to be a secret shopper.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
You welcome back that it's their first time, you explain it.
Then you go like at Tony Roma's if it was
their first time, I it was mandatory. I had to
tell them the three different types of rips. And if
I didn't do it, I would hear about it because
they would find out that's what we're gonna do. Tell
them and then be like, these are the couple new
menu items. Here we go. You know this is the
Randall Cobb salad. Don't steal our draftings helmets, Yeah exactly, Seth,
(40:04):
go ahead, Seth.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Hey, how you doing? Guys?
Speaker 3 (40:08):
Doing good?
Speaker 5 (40:11):
All right? Is Drew there?
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (40:15):
Hey, it's the Sethst Madisonville.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Hello, Seth, good to hear from you.
Speaker 5 (40:22):
Yes, sir, I had the little story about me and
your dad and I'll call it called back Wednesday. We
did a little mission work up and being in prison.
I'll call back Wenstey guys Alpha times lived up the road.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Mean if you can tell the story quickly, now, is
it better?
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Top eight to ten seconds?
Speaker 5 (40:42):
Okay, we went to being in prison. We started a
great back when Drew can tell you more about that.
It's like chriss up the room and what we camped
in a being in prison and I'm gonna call his
dad Tranco.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Okay, all right, all right, well I appreciate it. Thank you.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Your dad worked in a prison. Yeah, went through the church.
My dad and my uncle seth a lot of guys.
They would do mission work, including going to it.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
I think I mean this. I think people who and
who take the time to work in prisons, like, to me,
that is the heart of religion, like never giving up
on people, the people who go because you know, I mean,
I think anybody who volunteers a time on anything is wonderful.
But there's no glory in working in prisons. Some people
(41:34):
don't like it, like some people think that that's you know,
why would you reward them with whatever? People who do that,
I think that's a wonderful thing to do. And kudos
to your dad for doing.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
And my uncle Tim, I think he's done it quite
a bit. It's a big thing they do out in Madisonville.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Yeah, is your skin trying to tell you something sores
