Speaker 3 (01:40):
How are you.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
I'm doing wonderful. Great to be with you in the team, Matt.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Craig guy.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
So I met you a number of years ago, and
then like five years ago you kind of changed my
existence by calling me up and saying, hey, what do
you think about buying a wrestling company? And then the
next thing you know, I found myself in that world.
So I guess so thank you for that.

Speaker 5 (02:03):
It has been a great adventure. I know that you.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have.
It's it's well, it was neither one of our primary
focuses in life. It certainly was one of our market.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Sometimes it felt like it though, that is, sometimes it
felt like what did you think? By the way, on
with with with OVW there's a lot of people that
say wrestling is kind of like politics in life, especially
now you know Trump being president. He was in both
for a while. You're in politics, you've been in wrestling.
Do you think wrestling and politics have a lot in common.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
I definitely think they have a lot in common.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
I mean definitely, sort of the public persona and the
aspect that's certainly critically important. And people, you know, gravitate
towards those who they like and who they don't like
very easily, you know, And preparation is everything. We saw
how much preparation all these and that helps also in politics.
So there is a lot more in common between professional

(02:55):
wrestling and politics than I think any.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
Of us would like. But that's the world.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Do you find it weird when the came were following
us around and to have your life, I mean, I
know you're in a public eye, but that was a
little bit different.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Did you find that odd at all? It was?

Speaker 6 (03:08):
It was definitely weird and so, but that was also
four years ago that that happens. So now I'm a
little bit more normal usually used to it in my
life than I was back then. I was just getting
into it at that point.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
So right four years ago, Craig looks at me and says,
or four and a half years ago, I think I'm
going to run for mayor of Louisville. What do you think?
And I gave one of my great terrible predictions of
all time. I said, why in the world would you
want to do that? And you have no chance of winning?
And I was very wrong about the no chance of winning.

(03:41):
Now that you've done it, I mean, was it what
you thought you'd it'd be.

Speaker 6 (03:46):
I have loved every day of it, and that's certainly
it's the most challenging thing I've ever done in my life,
but it's also been the most rewarding. And nearly three
years in the momentum that we have in Louisville is wonderful.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
We are there's so much positive stuff.

Speaker 6 (03:57):
Going on, including this project right here at VOA and
the city have partnered on with other private partners.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
I'm really proud of where Louisville is.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
So one of things we've talked about a lot on
this show because I think it's become kind of a
big issue in Lexington, and to be honest, it was
an issue in Louisville for a long time, and I
actually think you've made some good strides on it. Is
what does a city do about the homelessness situation? I mean,
Lexington is actively dealing with this. They have new parks
being built and they're trying to figure out how to

(04:26):
handle it. I think anybody who lives in Lexington knows that.
It feels like to me, the situation has gotten better
in Louisville. I know this is part of it. Talk
to me about like what does a city do? How
do you think, like how do you handle it? Because
it seems like such a tough issue.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
To figure out.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
It is challenging.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
I mean, people who are homeless are struggling, they're dealing
with addiction and mental health issues. So we have found
that by providing more services and shelter, that's the ultimate solution.
That's what people need. They need help and they need support.
So we start just like this project right here, aiding
services and shelter to families. It's providing medical respite for
people who get in the hospital that are homeless so

(05:05):
that they don't go back out on the streets, and
all the other great services.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
That VOA does.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
You know, we're working with the private sector is also
putting in money to this. They're going to have some
great announcements about some other funders for this long term
the solution, it's more housing units, it's more mental health providers,
it's more people who help with drug addictions. You also
have to enforce the laws, and that's something that we
did here in Louisville. I mean, we really no longer
have an encampment problem in Louisville. We used to when

(05:32):
I became mayor. That's no longer the challenge. Now we're
helping people who are.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
How do you balance that though, I mean, enforcing the
laws also requires people like how do you balance that?

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Every day? There are a lot of people.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
I mean, the police, are social service providers, our housing developers,
everybody is contributing, and you make judgment calls on a
daily basis.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
You Rischie Farmer was here a minute ago. You said
you went to Ballard in nineteen what is at eighty eighth? Well,
come on now, Matt, that it was nineteen ninety one. Maybe,
come on, no, it wasn't, was it.

Speaker 6 (06:05):
I mean, Richie, graduate, you're right, you're right, you're right,
you're right, you're right. Yeah, I heard you doing a
math problem earlier. My math is worse than yours, that's right.
I graduated in ninety one, but that was because Alan
Houston was a couple of years ahead of me, And
so I was there at Ballard during those great rival days.
And I recently traveled down to Clay County with my

(06:26):
good friend Senators Stivers and all the folks from one
Clay County, many of.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
Them are here today.

Speaker 6 (06:31):
And I saw in the Clay County Historical Museum there
is a great retrospective of the Ballard versus class.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Those are the great great high school basketball rivalries of
all time. So you made a decision for the University
of Louisville that you decided to bring the banner back
right at you avail. Now we're at Kentucky show. But
like their are rivals. So you brought the banner back
to you Ofvil. You know, I don't know what we

(06:57):
think about that, What was the reason to do that?

Speaker 6 (07:00):
So I think the two most popular things I have
done as mayor were number one bringing the banner back,
and now there are calls for me to get involved
in formally restoring the twenty thirteen championships.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Do you think that'll happen, By the way, I would
like to see it happen.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
I don't know what's going on with the NCAA these days,
but if I can help lead the charge, I'm going to.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
So we're looking into that.

Speaker 6 (07:20):
And then the other most popular thing I did was
when we had an honorary street naming in honor of
Tom Jurich just a few weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Okay, I got.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
You that.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
I just I interviewed Andy bar Yeah, a couple of
days ago. Gave him a hard time. I gotta give
you a hard time. How you going to name a
street after Tom Jurich.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
He did a lot for this city, in this rug
and this athletic program here.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Come on, he built up the entire campus.

Speaker 6 (07:46):
Now, he certainly delayed the foundation that U of L
Athletics is building on top of today and Josh Hurt
and his team are doing an amazing job.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Do you think that the change in the NCAA now,
like the fact that players can be paid, etc. Does
that make you think people look back at that time
a little bit differently.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (08:02):
Absolutely, I think it definitely changes the perspective of everything.
I don't know if it's good or bad for college sports.
I'll leave that to you guys as the experts, but
it certainly is changing things. I was thrilled yesterday though, Speed.
I know you're talking about uf L, but UK. So
your coach, Coach Pope was at the hand breakfast yesterday.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Morning of the fair.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Have you Mark Pope?

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (08:20):
I met Mark Pope and his wife Leanne. They're wonderful people.
They had me to a UK basketball game with my family.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Right you did.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Now, let me ask you a question. You were at
a UK basketball and I wore blue. I believe you
were li like in like the second row or something.
Did U of L fans give you a hard time
about that?

Speaker 6 (08:35):
Absolutely they did. I was going it was great though.
You know, I'm not one of those haters. Though I'm support.
I am definitely to support UK athletically and academically.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
It's great for our state. I say I'm a hater.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
I am, but I also have said over the years,
and I believe this this city as an economic unit
and I think most.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Of you here live in Louisville.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
This city needs U of L basketball, especially sleep A
football as well, but especially basketball.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
To be competitive for the downtown.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
How much, just as a mayor, how much of what
this downtown does.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Where we are requires Louisville to be good.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
It's incredibly helpful. I mean, think about it. It's twenty
plus games a year at the UM Center. If you
have twenty thousand people coming versus eight thousand people, that
is a big difference for all the restaurants and bars
that are downtown. When our women's team is doing well, also,
that helps tremendously. Also, so you have like forty days
a year we have three volleyball games that sell out
each year. Also because we've had a great volleyball program.

(09:33):
It's critical to the success of downtown Louisville. And it
just makes people feel better when Louisville's doing well. When
the football program's doing well, people are in a good
mood in Lotutle.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
For years, there was a problem that Jurch did not
want UK to be able to use the Youm Center
for a game. Would you be willing if Kentucky wanted
to to have you allow UK to use the Young Center.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
For a game. Absolutely, that'd be great for our city'd
be great for our state.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
I'm all for it.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Yeah, well, that's good. There's a remember when we had
Greg Fisher on that time and I asked you that question.
I remember it very You want to talk about an
awkward interview?

Speaker 5 (10:05):
Yeah, it wasn't very receptive though, he was not very receptive.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
You've been big on trying to bring sporting events to Louisville, Like,
do you have any hints of things that might be
to come for people?

Speaker 6 (10:17):
There is one very big international event we are working
on right now that if we get it, we're in
the final two, would be wonderful.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Wow, it would be in a couple of years from now.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Final two it would be.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
It would be one.

Speaker 6 (10:29):
Yeah, come on, man, it is an Olympic sport, an
international it is in.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
I can't get too much. But what the other grade?

Speaker 6 (10:40):
Next month we're going to celebrate another great event that
we're having in twenty twenty eight. If it happens, it
would be in twenty twenty eight.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
That's a hint.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
Okay, But the Solheim Cup, which is basically the women's
version of the Ryder Cup, that's coming to Valhalla in
twenty twenty eight. That's going to be a really wonderful event.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Let me ask you about the about the golf thing,
because now the PGA, he does not own Valhalla. Do
you think will be and then obviously there was the
Scotti Scheffer incident last year, remember that. Do you do
you think we'll be able to get some PGA event?

Speaker 3 (11:12):
I know the Solheim Cup is PGA.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
But we'll TELPGA.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Yeah, well, you think we'll be able to get something
back here?

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Absolutely?

Speaker 6 (11:19):
We had a great relationship with the PGA of America
and I know you know, everything that happened on that Friday,
between the tragic accident and the arrest of Scotti Scheffer,
in some ways that brought us closer together. Jimmy Kirchdorffer
and his team, the owners of Valhalla, stayed in close
touch with the PGA. So I'm really hoping that we
get another twenty thirty something PGA championship and I think

(11:39):
we have a really good shot to do it.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
When you got success, yeah, no, when you got that
phone call that morning, because I know, like as a mayor,
you're just sitting there thinking, Shannon, yeah, please don't have
something happen. Yeah, please don't have something bad. When you
got that phone call, were you just like, oh, well,
here's actually so, here's what happened.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
So I woke up, as I do many mornings write
at like six o'clock to hop on the treadmill usually
for my day get started.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
That day, I was planning to go.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
I had a nice day out of Valhalla, and I
wake up to more text than I've ever seen on
my phone at six am, and I'm like, what the
heck is going on? So I start scrolling at first,
and I it just was so because it's real, right,
because it had both the tragic death plus the arrest,
and the first things I was getting did not mention
Scottie Scheffer by name. It was just that we had

(12:25):
arrested the golfer. And then it was more information. So
literally what I did, which I've never done before or since. Then,
I just like on a group FaceTime with our chief
of police and some of my deputy mayors at like
six ten am, and I literally sat on the top
of my stairs. I didn't even go downstairs for like
forty five minutes, just trying to get information because that

(12:46):
was one of the challenges in any real time.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
We were out there on the course that day doing
our show, and you remember, I mean, were you there?

Speaker 3 (12:52):
You were there right there.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
I was like, we were trying to figure out what
was going on, and you're at the course, and that
was what that was about.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
Yes, coming in quickly. It's hard to stay on top.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
Of it, it was, you know, So we all did
go out. We went out, everyone went out to the course.
We met there, we were able to deal with it.
And again I'm glad everything worked out the way that
it did. But that was quite a day.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
It's also your birthday.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Happy everybody, Happy birthday, birthday to thank you, mayor, to
Mayor Craig.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
We actually have present and cake for you.

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Jennifer.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
This is the amazing Jennifer Hancock who leads the team
in VOA that's doing a great job here at the
community care campus.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
And so so yeah, well Ryan's was last week. Mine's
next week. So uh so, happy birthday for you.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Birthday.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Thank you very much, very much, thank you, and thank
you very much for coming real quick.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
For people listening. Give the thirty second plug for this place.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
Well, VOA has this amazing project here that I think
is a national model the Community Care Campus. It's providing
more services and shelter for individuals who were homeless at
risk of being homeless, starting with helping families, providing medical respite,
and all sorts of services to help people who were
in thee That's one of the best things we can
do as a community is to help others that are
in need. We're addressing the homelessness crisis, but also as

(14:07):
importantly helping these people get a new lease.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
On life, a new path in life.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
Thanks to Jennifer, our team at VOA comprine with our
private sector donors, the state, the city have all contributed
funds and we're gonna keep making it going perfect.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Mayor and more importantly co minority owner of OO and
wrestling with me, Craig Greenberg, thank you very much. We
appreciate it. We will take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
uh text machine seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four here at the Volunteers of America in Louisville.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Let's talk a little bit about the Since we're in Louisville.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Obviously, Vince Marrow has switched sides and has gone from
the Kentucky side to the Louisville side.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
He did an interview a.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Couple days ago where it was with a different newspaper,
but once again, uh Ryan brought up ks R said
that he was frustrated not by us the radio, but
by the website and insinuation. If you remember, Nick Rouse
wrote a kind of behind the scenes article where he

(15:17):
said basically that working with Mark Stoops was almost like
Game of Thrones and that Vince had been kind of
pushed to the side for Eddie Grant, et cetera. He
took exception to that said that's not what happened, and
uh yeah, it was just he once again, he was
obviously very frustrated by that.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
What did you make of his comment?

Speaker 7 (15:38):
Well, you know, we all love Vince, and I'm only
we'll all con through of a friend.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
He may or may not be at that party tomorrow night.
By the way, just before you say that, I hope
he does. I mean, I really like that I.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Was invited and I have a I have a I
have an RSVP maybe a maybe.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
He and Joe, He and Joe sire, the two maybes that.

Speaker 7 (15:57):
Are like they are, the two don't say anything bad,
But wouldn't it be it'd be fun to see him
and you know, just catch up on life, not just
sardly football.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
But are you what are you gonna say to him
about that comment?

Speaker 7 (16:08):
I think there's a lot of truth to that that
they gave some of the power, the transfer portal power
Eddy Grant, and they gave them the recruitment of freshman,
gave some of that power to the position coaches, and
I think that hurt Vince's feelings. I think he thought, Look,
I'm the guy, I'm the guy that brings in all
these players. Why are you giving away some of my
power to these other guys.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
Do you think Shannon Ryan will say that to his
face tomorrow night if he if he runs into him,
or will Ryan find a reason to go hide under
the bar.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
If you were to repeat what Ryan just said for
Ryan to Vince, Ryan would be underneath the table. But
you guys don't. I don't think that Vince ever came
across as a guy with a big ego. But you
have to have an ego to work in that in
that field, right to be a football coach. I feel
like you have to have that and to hear those
words said by Ralsh or whoever it was that wrote it,
probably did.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Reading the article about how he's being paid, because he's
actually being paid less of a salary that he makes
at Kentucky, but it says he's like getting the difference.
It says from a private source, which I thought was
kind of interesting, and like, there's a so there's some
I don't know if it's a person or if there's

(17:16):
some someone that looked like but some of his money
Ryan is coming from a private source.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
But you don't hear about a lot.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
But I do wonder if that happens in the future,
if like there's there there are ways where you almost
have people sponsoring coaches or something and some of the
money does come from private stuff.

Speaker 7 (17:34):
You know, Vince was what the highest tight end coach
in the history of college football.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
The highest highest paid, highest paid. You don't know what
to say.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
He's the highest tight end coach that was. I don't
think that's a good I don't think that's nice.

Speaker 7 (17:46):
He would not have gone to Louisville if the money
was not at least comparable. He just wouldn't have to.
He's earned the right to be the highest paid coach.
He's not gonna give that up. I don't think uh.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Kentucky High school football starts tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
I asked you a few days years ago if you
had a preview, you had three days to get one.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Do you have some previewing?

Speaker 7 (18:04):
Yeah, I got got a little bit. You know, the
rich get Richard. It's gonna be the same schools. We're
looking at Boyle County, Trinity, Saint X. But Paduka Tillman's
got a really good team. They've got one of the
best players in the state, a big offensive lineman. It's
like one of the top players in the state. But
I think the best player in the state is a
junior Seneca Driver at Boyle County. He's the He's the
next NFL.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
Goodah Seneca Driver. You see a potential UK football recruit.

Speaker 7 (18:31):
Well, I know he was being recruited. Vince was recruiting
him for UK when Vince was here as a sophomore.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
Now is junior.

Speaker 7 (18:36):
But the guy I think he's the next, like I said,
NFL caliber player to come than he's just a junior.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
I hate to tell you though, they're gonna lose tomorrow.
They don't play it tonight. They play tomorrow. They play
Bullet East and Boldest is gonna take him down.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Ryan said that he was the announcer uh tonight for
Woodford County versus quote a team from Illinois.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
I was told by somebody.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
On the text machine that you might need Did you
know that game is not till next weekend?

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yeah, it's not. It's not this Friday.

Speaker 7 (19:04):
It's a week from from your plans has opened up.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
Now you have another lonely night at home free night tonight.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
So but here's my question, Shannon, if I hadn't told
him that.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
He would have showed up, do you think he would
have just showed up to the game. Yeah, like, where's
everybody at?

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Where is everyone? Yeah, she's supposed to be playing football today.

Speaker 5 (19:22):
There's no doubt he would have done that. You need
somebody to like schedule your your itinerary.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
It's like plan enough time now to do it.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
Yoga girl said the same thing. Agaus, she goes, I
guess you're busy now your high school football. I'm like,
may have missed that up. I do want to mention
one more high school football note. Fort Thomas Highlands. They're
tight end. We all need to keep an eye on.
His last name is Lorenzen and he's gonna be a superstar.
So it's a Jared's kid. Yes, how what year is he?
I believe he's be a junior. He's legit, like really good. Yeah,

(19:49):
he's already got offers from like Miami, Ohio and some
schools like that. So but we all got to pull
for Fort Thomas Highlands and taydu Lorenzen.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Of course.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Yes, that's I cannot see again you talk about it.
That kid is now a junior in high school.

Speaker 7 (20:02):
Nit crazy, little Tatan I think was maybe that is
ten years old?

Speaker 4 (20:06):
Wild to meet Jared's junior in high school.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Unbelievable. Who's up next? Hagen is up now? Hagen? Go ahead? Hagen?

Speaker 8 (20:16):
Hey guys, first time calling.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Who what's up?

Speaker 8 (20:20):
I just want to let you know I got a
dental school interview at Kentucky on next Wednesday, and right
after him, stop by the bar and check it out.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
That'll be awesome.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Like we open on Tuesday at KS Bar, we'll be
doing the show's there.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Come on out.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
We're gonna be having all kinds of specials and then
of course Saturday the game and we'll open for breakfast.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
It should be a really fun week. I'm looking forward
to it.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
It's been awesome being back in there with all the
energy in the vibe in the last couple of nights.

Speaker 8 (20:49):
Awesome. I'm excited also for Ryan. Next year, I'm gonna
be living alone for the first time as well. So
I'm just praying for you. I know it's gonna be hard.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, I appreciate it, Cal you have had I've had
more people come up to me and talk about you
being alone. I've had like therapists reach out to me
and want to help you. Like I'm sure it's been
even more overwhelming for you.

Speaker 7 (21:10):
Well, you know, we were talking last night at kas
Bar and you said, as anybody come up and talking
about it, I said, every table, every single table i'd
stopped by, is that they've gone through it, they're getting
ready to go through it. They dread the fact they
got to go through it. I'm telling you, for the
people that are empty nest syndrome, it's a real thing
and it's awful. I hate every second of it, and
I'm just gonna have to start have more kids.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
Like there you go go to the adoption clinic. Come
on with two more kids.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
I would guarantee you that's not the prescribed thing that
you should do.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
I think I need to go adopt. Like Shannon said,
four or five more kids. Give me a starting lineup
for basketball. All about six, five, six, seven, six, eight kids,
and let's go.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
One person writes on the text machine, Matt Rank. Everyone's
ranked their top five scores for UK basketball this year
in order. All right, well you all think I'll go first, top.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Five scores in order. I'm gonna go Jalen Low one,
Otago Way two. Oh, this is where it gets hard.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
I mean you could go a lot of different ways
for the other three. All Right, so I gotta pick
a big because I'm gonna say Mohammed Diabate three. I'm
gonna say Jasper Johnson four, Colin Chandler five.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
But three, four and five could be eight different people.
What about you?

Speaker 7 (22:38):
Okay, I'm gonna go Otaga one and Low two. I'm
gonna flip flop your top two. Flip fop around Tago one,
Low two, Aberdeen three. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go
Yellovitch four Wow, and I'm gonna go Brandon Garrison.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
Five. You just picked three completely different people. You said
to three four five? What are you doing? All right?

Speaker 5 (22:56):
So I've got Low one, Otega two, Aberdeen three, I'm
gonna go Jasper Johnson four five Brandon Garrison.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Yeah, it's crazy, it's hard.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
That is starting at number three. There are eight guys
who could do it. Absolutely there really are like that is.
I think the top two are gonna be the top two.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
I think so. But after that, what Yellowitch number four?

Speaker 7 (23:23):
I think he's gonna be the surprise.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Wow, that's exciting. All right, We'll take a break, be
right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. It's Kentucky Sports
Radio here live and volunteers of America Community Care Campus
right here. The campus helps transitional housing for young adults,
permitive supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness, has a medical clinic,

(23:46):
and a lot more. They've been great here today thanks
to Penn Station as well, and just in time for
Labor Day, there's more places for you to pick up
your bottles of Red State Barbecue, Kentucky Proud section of
Liquor Barn, Kroger Public's in Louisville.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
And now Select Myers across the state.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Go to RedState bbq dot com best barbecue sauce in
the state and it's not even close. RedState bbq dot
com and use my code KSR twenty that's twenty spelled
out twe n t y KSR twenty for twenty percent
off your order from Red State Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Great barbecue sauce there at Red State.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Some some people were riding me and telling me that
UK's basketball team is at Natural Bridge State Park today.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Nice.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Now I've heard of Natural Bridge. I think I've probably
even been there. But what does Natural Bridge do? Like,
what do you do at Natural Bridge?

Speaker 7 (24:41):
It's a big rock that the winds. The hole was
about the size of a quarter and the wind through
erosion finally made it this huge gap underneath it. So
there's a natural bridge. The rock has shaped into like
a bridge on top a bridge from what to what? Well,
you just hike up. The hike up the side of
the mountain. They got like a path. It's about a
mile and you're gonna go up to the bridge. It's
beautiful views of the valleys.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
But when I think of a bridge, like I'm thinking
of a bridge over air.

Speaker 7 (25:08):
It's like a rock bridge over space.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Okay, so it's a bridge, yeah, all right, but it's natural,
it's natural. Yeah, okay, is it nice? I like it.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
There's a chair lift you can go up. You don't
want to take the hike.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
So so this is like, I'm clearly a team building outing.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
So Mark Pope seems Shannon to be big at those.
He seems to be big on this sort of let's
do things as a group and let's all.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
You're bringing in an all new team every year. You
gotta do something to beat build the team chemistry. So
that's that's kind of cool. I've never been to it before.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
For the folks here in Louisville, this won't matter to
you quite as much. But in Lexington ten am tomorrow
they're opening that park. They are expecting, uh, thousands of
people there. I'm really looking forward to having all those
people outside my house tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
Will you be there to catch the babies falling off
the playground.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
I'm just gonna tell you right now, if you block
my drive play, I'm gonna have you toad.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
That's my one. That's do not block my Otherwise, do
what ever you want.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
But uh, there's gonna be a lot of people there
tomorrow and hopefully there will not be kids falling in
despair off of the playground.

Speaker 5 (26:15):
What's the parking situation like over there? Do they have
enough space? Do you think or is it gonna be
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
I don't know what run over there. It's like it's
just like any UK game.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
I mean, you just probably park wherever you do for U.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
For for you, I want you out there like counting
the number of injuries so we can go like, you know,
X amount of days since Satury.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
I don't want to be seen as the like guy
that's against the playground. I'm just telling you I'm a
little nervous about the playground and I just want to
have my reservations noted.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
Well, I'm playing on I'm not gonna go tomorrow, but
I'm planning on going and parking in your driveway and
walking over there.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
You can park in my driveway. Other people cannot block
my driveway. College football Playoff we talked about this on
my ESPN show. I don't think we talked about it here.
The Big Ten says they want to have twenty eight teams.
The SEC yesterday said they want to have sixteen teams.
So I think because the SEC and the Big ten

(27:11):
both want to have more teams.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
There are definitely gonna be more teams.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
Would you rather have sixteen or would you rather have
twenty eight? Now, when I said twenty eight, I saw you,
sir shake your head. No, let me make the case
for twenty eight. We might make it.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
That's my thought. Do you want the chance a Kentucky macks.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
My case for twenty eight is we have a shot
of making it now. I think we have a shot
at sixteen, but I think we'd have a real shot
not this year, but we'd have a real shot some
years at twenty eight. So I'm actually not against it.
I think twenty eight probably doesn't happen. I think it
ends up being sixteen. But what would you prefer if

(27:53):
you had a chance.

Speaker 7 (27:54):
Yeah, if you're a Kentucky football fan like we all are,
you want to go twenty eight. There's been a couple
of years we would have been in the play off
to twenty eight, to maybe even sixteen, So I'm off
for twenty eight to go as a chance.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
They also so here's what just for just so people know,
a sixteen game playoff. The argument for it is, if
you're one of the top four seeds, you still get
a home game, right, You could still have a game
on your campus with the revenue that's associated with that.
Because the way the system is now, the best four
teams don't get a home game, right, right, So this
is the reason you would do that is so everybody
gets a home game. Now, one of the games would

(28:25):
probably stink. You'd have a one seed probably against like
two lane or something like that, but in general, everybody
gets a home game. What would happen with the twenty
eight is the top four seeds would get a bye,
but then the first and second round, so basically the
round to thirty two and the round of sixteen would
both be home games. So some schools would get two
home games on their campus.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Which would you prefer?

Speaker 5 (28:49):
You know, I think twenty eight pills like a lot,
But when you start to think about it and play
it out in your mind, having a home game in
a college playoff like that, the atmospheres would be crazy, right,
And I was gonna say, like you said, Kentucky would
have a chance. And then lastly, you know, we put
such an emphasis on the top twenty five, it feels

(29:09):
like the top twenty five should have the chance to
play for a playoff.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
I'll do one more thing. See if this convinces you, sir, No,
I mean, like, I get it. My initial reaction is
twenty eight seems to me. But what if I told
you that there are three hundred and forty teams Division
one in basketball and sixty eight make.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
It, which is a little less than twenty percent, right?

Speaker 4 (29:31):
Then what if I told you there's one hundred and
thirty eight Division one teams in football, twenty eight would
be about twenty percent, right, It would be the It
would be kind of the exact same thing as in basketball,
about twenty percent of the teams.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Would make the playoffs. And then I'll go even further.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Look at the pro.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Sports leagues NBA, NFL, NHL, and Major League Baseball. In
all of those sports, more than twenty percent of the
teams make the playoff. It's more like thirty five to
forty percent of the teams make the playoffs. So the
argument is, of all the sports, the sport that has
the smallest percentage of the teams that play it. And

(30:13):
this includes all college sports, baseball, volleyball, all of them.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
College football is the sport that has.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
The smallest percentage of teams in it make the playoffs.
And if you wanted to put it in line with
the other sports, Ryan, you would have twenty eight make it.
So again, I'm not advocating for that, but that isn't
I hadn't thought of it like that, but that's an
interesting way to look at it's coming.

Speaker 7 (30:34):
We got to just accept the fact that the playoffs
were going to expand. It's coming, and I love what
you're talking about the home field advantage. I mean, that's
one one thing that makes college football great is that
home game environment. That atmosphere of these college stadiums can
imagin if it's a playoff game, it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 4 (30:48):
Well, let's just say we went on the road to
I don't know, Penn State to play a playoff game.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
It would be kind of awesome.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
I mean it would be yeah.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
And if we ever got to year that we were
able to host, it'd be like the best night in
Lexington of all Timore.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
So, I mean it is. I don't think they'll go
to twenty eight, but I don't think it's a crazy idea.
Is maybe idea? When I first heard Who's up Next,
Adam is up next? Adam, Go ahead, Adam.

Speaker 9 (31:17):
So that totally against twenty eight. If you're not, you know,
one of the best sixteen, which you know Kentucky usually isn't,
then you don't deserve to make it.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
Do you feel the same.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Way about Do you feel the same way about the
NCAA Tournament, Because if you were going to do percentages,
only thirty two teams would make the NCAA Tournament.

Speaker 9 (31:37):
And most tiers Kentucky is one of the best thirty two.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
Correct, But I.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
Mean you would if you would advocate for cutting the
NCAA Tournament from sixty four to thirty two.

Speaker 9 (31:47):
Yeah, yeah, I don't. Why don't I see a team
that went seven and eleven in the ACC as.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
You know, because I I would argue the first two
days the NCAA Tournament of the best days of basketball
of the year.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
That's just me. But go ahead?

Speaker 9 (32:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Uh so? U.

Speaker 9 (32:04):
I sawyer heard you talking to Mary Greenberg about having
a game in Louisill as long as it's a marquee game.
You know, when we got into when it was UK
and I U in Freedom Hall every year, that was awesome.
When it got to the IONA and UA, the and
UNC Asheville, like we can do without that. It's actually

(32:26):
crazy to think in today's world, Like, can you imagine
that we used to play SEC games? Yes, Freedom Hall
and in Cincinnati, Like that just blows my mind now
that you know we played I didn't.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
We played SEC games in Cincinnati.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
Kentucky and Vandy one year played up in Cincinnati. I
think that's when Derek Anderson got hurt.

Speaker 4 (32:46):
See, you know, I didn't even know that. I didn't
even play a game in Cincinnati. Well, thank you appreciate
the call. That By the way, that was a little
piece of news from Mayor Greenberg that he said they
would he would let Kentucky use the Young Sinner. Would
you want Kentucky to use the um Center for a
game if they had the if they had the ability,
because for.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
A long time they were kind of banned from doing it, I.

Speaker 7 (33:06):
Would love it. I really think the UMP Center is
one of the best college basketball venues I've ever been in.
I think it's an awesome venue, and we would pack it.
It would be blue Richie. Would you wanted to play
a game here?

Speaker 4 (33:16):
Here's I actually would And I'll tell you when I'd
really like it. It's when they host the first and
second round the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
Yep, because when.

Speaker 4 (33:24):
We're good, if we're ever really good and they're hosting
the first and second round, we'll be.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
There, right.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
Louisville last year was put in Roup as an eight seed,
so that may tell you that they would even put us.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
In their chain.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
And even if we weren't one of the top seeds,
I think it would be a good idea to play
a game in the Young Center if we know the
NCAA Tournament that year is in the Center.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Yeah, and as long as we're getting enough marquee games
in Lexington at Roperna, because there's some schedules where you
just don't get enough you know, big name teams in there.
So I wouldn't want to substitute it out for that though.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
But part of why I like the games at the
Young Center or at Freedom Hall was not just because
it's in Louisville. I mean, it's an hour away, that's
not a huge difference. It's that you got a different
crowd than you get in Rubbery. Yeah, those tickets were
up for sale, and usually even against the bad teams,
the atmosphere was better in Freedom Hall because you had

(34:22):
people who.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Just didn't get to go all the time.

Speaker 7 (34:24):
You know, these big five year deals were playing with
Gonzaga in Indiana. Why would you want to play one
at the um Center instead of going to Nashville.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Those games against Indiana at the um Center were ass
at Freedom Hall.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Those were awesome. The environments were awesome, Like.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
They were half and half half blue, half red.

Speaker 5 (34:39):
If you're a Kentucky fan living in Louisville and you
had them play here, I think you're just probably by
default a bigger fan, you more more excited to be there.

Speaker 4 (34:48):

in mind this is a public private prop partnership and
they need your help. Fundraising still going on at voamid
dot org click on it and the Community Care campus.
It's been great for the city of Louisville and I'm
sure it will it will continue a I'm nine two
eight twenty two eighty seven one version rights Matt, What
about Jaden Quaintance, How are you not picking him as

(36:01):
one of your top scores? Well, I mean I'm not
picking him for me. I'm not picking him as one
of my top scores because I don't know if he'll
play enough. And I also think there'll be a few
even if we're doing points per game, I think there'll
be a few games where it takes him a while
to get to sort of get a customed So that's
that's my reason exactly.

Speaker 7 (36:19):
He may be the highest NBA draft pick when it's
all said and done, but he's gonna gonna limp into
the season a little bit. You know, they'll take it
a little easy on him before he finally gets going
and then me pick it up.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
A little bit.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
I don't think he would play. I mean, I don't
know this, but I would guess that he probably won't
play a whole lot in the first couple of months
of the season just because of that injury.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Yeah, I mean, that's my thought. It's really more just
like a playing time kind of fail. But in terms
of talent, by the end of the year, he's gonna
be If he advances like you want, he's gonna be
one of the most talented folks going. All right, Let's
college football begins tomorrow with some actual games, including a
Top twenty five matchup. So I'm gonna go through here

(36:57):
as part of our Draft Kings. You go to Draft
Kings promo code KSR. We're gonna make our picks. Are
you ready to go?

Speaker 3 (37:03):
Go?

Speaker 4 (37:04):
This is just gonna be a quick who wins. Let's
get started. Idaho State UNLV.

Speaker 5 (37:11):
Give me Idaho State.

Speaker 7 (37:12):
Oh yeah, Idaho States beg to have a big year.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
They're twenty six and a half point underdogs, So I'm
gonna go ahead and take UNLV.

Speaker 4 (37:20):
I think I think going with Idaho State's probably not
the best early week.

Speaker 5 (37:24):
Zero anything happen.

Speaker 7 (37:25):
I mean they cover, they cover the twenty six.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
Oh did you okay? Yeah, I didn't think that's what
you said. Friendsno State plays Kansas. Kansas with its new
three hundred million dollars donation, they will they hold survey
went at home against Fransno State.

Speaker 5 (37:40):
I'd say they had better otherwise there's gonna be a
lot of questions asked. Why why can't you win against Bresno.
Gimme Kansas?

Speaker 7 (37:46):
Oh yeah, I got Kansas all day, every day.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
All right, Sam? You I am too, Sam.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
Houston State playing against Billy and Western Kentucky, the Hilltoppers
debuting their season.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
I gotta go with Western Kentucky on this one.

Speaker 7 (38:01):
Toppers Toppers, toppers. Yeah, they got a big season coming.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
I'm gonna go Western as well.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
Stanford gets on the road and crosses the Pacific and
heads to Hawaii.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
Who you got give me? Hawaii is a two and
a half point favorite the Rainbows.

Speaker 5 (38:16):
Hawaii.

Speaker 7 (38:16):
Yeah, they'll have jet lag and their legs will be tired,
So give me Hawaii.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
I'm gonna take Stanford on the road. Smart kids are
gonna do it. And then finally the big game in Dublin,
the aer Lingus College Football Classic.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Kansas State Iowa State.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
Did you see, by the way, all the bars the
city of Dublin.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
This is kind of funny.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
The city of Dublin decided to adorn like bars all
over the city in the flags of the two teams. Right,
So they ordered Iowa state flags. They got the right one,
but when they ordered a Kansas state flag, they accidentally
ordered the state flag of Kansas. Oh no, I order

(39:01):
the Kansas State So all across the city it's like
the Iowa State Hawkeyes, and then the state flag of Kansas,
which is kind of like Kentucky's too. I think it's
like people shaking each other's hand or something. So they
didn't quite get the middle.

Speaker 5 (39:15):
That's bad, No Joe for Kansas State. Give the Iowa State.

Speaker 7 (39:18):
Oh yeah, that made my mind. I was kind of
on the Peter Totter. I'm going to Iowa State.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Yeah, Well, Kansas State's a three and a half point favorite.

Speaker 7 (39:24):
Oh Iowa State load up win and covers.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
My feeling is, if you can't get their flag right,
there's their team is not going to be pumped up.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
There's no way they're going to be excited. I will
take the Cyclones.

Speaker 4 (39:34):
Iowa State, by the way, a team that's supposed to
be like a sleeper.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
For the I do that.

Speaker 5 (39:39):
That's why Shannon and I picked Yeah yeah, might be
in the college football playoffs this year. Yeah good?

Speaker 3 (39:43):
Who's next? Cynthia's next, Cynthia? How are you, Cynthia?

Speaker 10 (39:48):
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
How you guys doing doing good?

Speaker 10 (39:51):
My husband and we flew out to Arizona. We're going
to catch a red game against them.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
That's a nice stadium.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
They got really good food, a lot of like tacos
and stuff, really good food in the Diamondback Stadium.

Speaker 10 (40:05):
Okay, we're looking forward to it. We nerve been so.
But we've had two ridecare experiences and we wanted to
get your opinion on them. The first one is we
ordered one of those driver lest cars, the d in it.
Have you all ever done that or would you.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
Order the driver No?

Speaker 4 (40:21):
But they're all they're all over the place out there
in Phoenix. I don't like that that, you know. I
haven't really seen them a lot in other places, but
when we were in Phoenix for that barstool party, there's
a lot of the driver list cars are everywhere out there.

Speaker 10 (40:35):
Yeah, I've seen a bunch of them. I think the
only other place I've seen them was when we were
in Austin. But and then our second one was later
in the day. We ordered an Uber and when our
Uber driver pulled up, just two dogs were in the
front seat.

Speaker 5 (40:48):
Get out of the car once.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
You can't be Uber drivers can't.

Speaker 4 (40:53):
They can't bring their dogs or their babies, Like if
it's a grown child. I'll accept it because they got
a working pair and I get it, but like, no,
I'm not.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
I'm canceling the ride. No offense to them, but I'm
not getting in a car with the dog.

Speaker 5 (41:06):
It's less room for passengers too, if you're putting your
dog in there.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
I appreciate the call when you see let me, have
you ever been in a place with the driverless cars?

Speaker 3 (41:14):
Have you ever seen them? I haven't.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
I'm not ready for that yet. I don't think I
can do it.

Speaker 4 (41:18):
You know, when you see them, like it's it's all
it's like weird and like they do they drive. I mean,
I'm not saying they drive bad, but it's just like
I can sit like it's just I don't know, I.

Speaker 5 (41:29):
Would feel like I'm breaking anything somebody's car if it's
just a car that's empty and I'm just getting in there.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
And you just get in, and then how do you.

Speaker 5 (41:37):
Know you're in the right What if there's multiple ones
and you get in their own car.

Speaker 4 (41:40):
Well it has a license plate, but like it's got
a big sensor on top, and it just it threw
it threw me off.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
I'm not gonna you've been in one and you've well
I know I haven't been in it, but you see them, yeah,
all over the streets there.

Speaker 5 (41:54):
There was one story of the guy that was just
driving around in circles because his car wouldn't stop and
he was late for a flight. I'm just the car
just took him to a parking lot and started driving
in circles. The guys like, somebody stopped this, I'm gonna
be late for my flight.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
