Chos Bar and Grill is back open and we will
be open all day to day, starting at eleven o'clock
for lunch. We have some folks who came a little
early to watch the show, include some familiar faces who
were regulars to come watch us on a daily basis,
which is nice. And Ryan Lemon here, we are back
in place. We've now been doing this show really since COVID,
(01:24):
and it's nice to be back.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
It's super nice to be back.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
You know, I kind of got excited about it with
the parties we had last week, you know, kind of
the dress rehearsals, your your birthday party, hobbies, birthday party,
that sort of thing. But to come back here to
do a show on my birthday party, by the way,
that's true.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
I mean, I just want you to not think you
got away with being at my birth That was not
my birthday party. That was just that was the friends
and family opening dinner. That was not a birthday part.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I felt like it was a early party.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
Yeah, we actually are supposed to do something for my
birthday party. Which this is the way Shannon I think
he's going to try to get out of it is
by saying he already came.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I did. I was here Saturday night for the big
Matthew Harper Jones.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
That was not a birthday party. I felt like it
was well okay, But anyway.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
And we come back here today and it feels like
we haven't left.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yes, Uh, you are dressed up.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I am dressed up.
Speaker 7 (02:13):
Threw me off.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Why why are you dressed up?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I am shooting a commercial for Alarm dot Com.
Speaker 7 (02:21):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
They're the parent company of Silent Guard. That's my system.
My assistant saved my house when I caught on fire.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
So you're you're doing a national television commercial.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
They wanted to fly me in Washington, DC to shoot
it there, and I told him, I said, look, I
got too much stuff going on.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
We got ks Bar opening this game week, so they're fine.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
You don't have anything going on. I mean you could
have gone to do the commercial. You're lonely, remember, yeah,
I mean you you literally have been complaining about being
lonely all week.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
You did what you just didn't want to go. I
did not want to go. Okay, I got something going
on like every day this week.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Okay, so you're doing a commercial.
Speaker 6 (02:56):
They're flying two guys in right now, Steven Spielberg, I
think so, yes, And then I'm gonna meet them at
a studio here in town after the show to shoot.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
It's gonna be like a national endorser.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
It's like a it's a testimonial type commercial, and it's
a testimony for the fact that alarm dot com like
told you your house was on fire, which allowed you
to save it. Yeah, nobody was there when the alarm
went off and it sent the automatic signal to the
fire department. The fire department got there before anybody else did.
We didn't even know what was on fire.
Speaker 7 (03:24):
Yeah, I mean, he definitely owes them, But this seems
like a big commitment you're doing here.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
I can't believe you're gonna be on nash are you
do you think, like, is this like Sidney Sweeney with
the jeans? Is there going to be a protest or
something happening with you?
Speaker 6 (03:35):
I actually I took a shower, I shaved, I clean
the wax out of my ears.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Okay, don't get at it. No, no, no, that's planning.
I want you to have a chance to go down
to Gross Path. We are opening a restaurant today, so
we'll good. Well, congratulations on the thing I asked him, Drew.
You know, I didn't need details, but I was like,
are you being paid well for this?
Speaker 4 (03:58):
And he told me he's doing it for free.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
That's the that's like Brian Lemon's brand.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Though.
Speaker 7 (04:02):
If you need, if you need.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
A shout out, that's not how it was, though, Like
you like, you know, you you could get paid for
these things.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
But I feel like they saved my house and they
saved my dogs. I kind of feel like I owe
them a little bit, you know, so I don't and
you know, I was their endorser, they endorsed here ks are.
They built the hilp spots of the the jail that
I had to spend a week in here that was
silent Guard, So I feel like I kind of owe
them back a little something.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
All right, are you end up being these late night
in commercials that run just over and over.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
He's like the guy who used to do all the
push ups?
Speaker 5 (04:34):
Yeah, well, good, Well, I'm glad you're doing that. I
could tell you were doing something important because.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
You were wearing your one polo shirt that you wear
when you wanna when you want to be fancy.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
No logos, you're no logos on it.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Yeah, you're one pair of pants that you have. So
it's it's nice to Uh, nice to have We're back
here at ks Bar, where we are uh back open
after a long period of time, uh of being off. Well, well,
we will be open at eleven o'clock. Love to have
you come by for lunch today. But uh, it's nice
to be back.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
You know. We we decided for a few months in
the summer to kind of reset. If you look around,
just a quick explanation. We we changed the tabletops in here.
You might see that they're shiny, uh and new. We
we redid the floors so as you can see, the
floors uh are are brand new, including having some new
blue paint. You changed a lot of these pictures in here,
(05:28):
a lot more pictures and a lot different jerseys, et cetera.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
You guys spend a lot of time on this. Looks
looks really good. Change the place behind us. We switched
a ton of the televisions around. And then, most importantly, Uh,
I think we've very much improved our menu.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I think the.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Wings and the logs cheese logs are the same. A
couple of other things are saying, but most stuff is new,
including we're doing smash burgers from Notch Linda, which are
really good.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
It's a lot of new appetites, potato wedges, which I
think I'm gonna eat those, probably more than I should.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Because they're actually really really good.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
So anyway, you will see when you come a the uh,
I guess we would say chos bar drew two point zero.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
I mean, I'm just excited to be here in here
at all, but I'm probably gonna eat lunch here and
I know I'm gonna eat dinner here, so I'm looking
forward eating the new stuff. Those mashed potato barrel kegs
whatever we're called tater kegs. My goodness, that'll that will
be part of both there.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
I'm telling you on the tater kegs like they're really
really good, and like you'll sit there and you'll go,
this can't be good for me, and it probably isn't.
I don't know what all's in it, but it can't
be good because like it's it's really That was one
when we went to the to the test kitchen.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
I was like, all right, we have to do that.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
I haven't told my body that we're done with vacation yet,
so I got one more day to really push it
to the limits. So I'll be eating all of it.
Speaker 6 (06:52):
All the appetizers are really really good. But those tater kegs,
that's the one everbody gonna be talking about that. We
first open, they were talking about our cheese lugs. Now
it's the tater kegs. I'm both now, So we're opening.
We got all week in here and then we will.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Next week be having a lot of specials and stuff
throughout the week, and then of course game Day is Saturday.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
We'll have breakfast. But anyway, we are here and uh
this day. We'll be here today, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
And I also know today and tomorrow the moment this
show ends, I have ESPN from twelve to three, so
I'm gonna be sitting at this stage for five straight hours.
So if you want to come by today from twelve
to three during the commercial breaks, I'd be glad to
say hi to you, because I'm hosting what is It?
Speaker 4 (07:33):
What's On from twelve to three Joe and Q. This
is like the last week.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Rich Eisen comes next week, so I'm kind of keeping
the seat warm for rich Eisen to come in here
next week.
Speaker 7 (07:42):
Drew, sounds like a big responsibility have today. I'll share
some of my food with you while I'm here for lunch.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Little nervous though, because like I'm driving the show, have
no idea what it's about. They're gonna send me at
like eleven thirty. The thing I've done, no re you
three hours on national radio in the middle of the
day on the ESPN radio. I'm driving today with Myron,
and I have no idea what the show's about.
Speaker 7 (08:05):
Well, you're an NFL pro, I'd say it's mostly gonna
be cuts, roster moves. Those are all going down this
morning yesterday.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
All right, So yeah, let's Trey Hendrickson has just agreed
to a new contract.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
There you go, meat story.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
All right. I guess that those are the things that
we're gonna do.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Some positive news on the my street and I'm ready
to have people thrown in prison.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
What happened?
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Somebody last night came and put cardboard signs outside my
yard that said no parking.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
I don't know who did.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
That, but they're they're angel but thank you, yes.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Because they're actually it's an actual like sign, but they
attached car like just cardboard, like from a cardboard box
on it.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Okay, but you know what, I think it works because
I got there. I got up this morning, there were
no cars. So, you know what, who ever did that,
thank you. I appreciate it because I guess they knew
Drew that I would not.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
Be able to do that that or they're holding that
spot for when they go to the next big event
and they're just gonna polk up, pick your sign up
and pull.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
You're only how they're holding it for them.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
So I guess it's a listener who has narrowed down
where you live when they were just helping you out,
very kind, very kind of.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
You got to think of maybe one of your neighbors,
like as a frustrated as you are, decided we're gonna
do something about it.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
Could be could be because they are in a couple
of other yards. Yeah, so it could be a neighbor
who decided to sell those.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
Those signs of work pretty well until it rains or storms,
and then then I hadn't.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Thought of an issue.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Did you know that yesterday was the coldest August twenty
fifth in Lexington history? Got down to forty eight degrees
after we had a pretty hot summer. Forty eight degrees
last night in August and then according to Chris Bailey,
that's the first time it's been in the forties in
(09:53):
August in since like the fifties.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
After all that heat we had last month, I'm ready
for it. I'm glad it's showing up a little early
with football here. I'm ready to jump into the hoodie season.
I never stopped or stopped starting to drop just in
time forget.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
It felt like football season last night, didn't it? Walking outside?
It did like it did a little bit, all right?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
So the depth chart came out yesterday, and I thought
it would be nice as part of the preview. We've
talked all year about how we don't know who these
people are.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
How about we say their names?
Speaker 8 (10:26):
Right? Like?
Speaker 4 (10:27):
How about we learn their names?
Speaker 5 (10:28):
How about Mario, you don't take one of the people
that's here and staying directly in front of them so
that they.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
So that they cannot see. All right?
Speaker 5 (10:40):
He literally Mario had butt to face right there, right
next to his face on a Tuesday morning.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Okay, here we go, you're right ready, introduce us to
these people.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
All right?
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Here is your starting line, starting offensive line, Siage Pete.
We all know who that is. That's gonna be the
left tackle, Yes, left guard, John sure Braun.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
That's a name. Some of you may not have heard.
Let me tell you what.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Schools he's gone to, Okay, Arkansas, Florida and Shawnee Shannie.
This kid started at Shawnee and is now at his
third SEC school so far.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
Drew and one of the only players to have been
getting much preseason recognition. You get guys on those watch lists,
but they add seventy five players he was born that
got a little SEC love.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Center is Jagger Burton? How do you think he's gonna
do it? Center?
Speaker 6 (11:27):
I think he's gonna be an NFL center at some
point in his career. So I think this is just
the start up a big season for Jagger.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
You think he's gonna be an NFL center, Yep, I
think he is. If Rian lemon knew you when you
were a kid, you're gonna get praised. That's just how
it is. Right guard Jalen Farmer.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
He's the only other returner that we all kind of
knew his name from last year.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
On the line, that's exactly right. Our right tackle Alex Wolfschlager, which,
by the way, we serve here, we serve a good Wolfschlager.
You gotta be ready to take a shot.
Speaker 7 (11:55):
Yeah, I think that's Goldschlager, no relation. We'll call him
Wally big guy. Not at the tackle spots. There's some
freshmen behind them, so we're gonna need him to stay
healthy and have a good year. He comes from bowling
Grease Green State. Did you I thought it was just
bowling green Is it bowling Green State? Is bowling Green State?
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I guess it.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Didn't know that. I thought it was just bowling. Did
they always call it bowling Green State?
Speaker 7 (12:16):
I don't really hear anyone use it when you're saying it.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Yeah, I always feel like they say, okay, wide receiver
at the X. I didn't know. I knew there was
an X and a Z. I didn't learn till this
chart that there's an F.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Did you know there was an F slot guy?
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Why don't they just say slot? I've heard that. I
didn't know there was an F X hardly.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Gilmour came from Nebraska at one point, or JJ Hester,
who came from Oklahoma and Missouri.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
Another player drew with his third SEC school.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
Yeah, and these are kind of just alphabetical and ores.
They ORed the whole wide receiver room, so we didn't
really get we have an idea. Kendrick Law and Macklin
are going to be in the mix, but Stoops is
really going to give the whole room an opportunity.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
You mentioned Kendrick Law, he's the wide receiver in the slot.
He went to Alabama and Jamoori Macklin of course we
know him. Tight End Josh Cattis, he's a returner superstar. Yes,
another tight end the f Willie Rodriguez Kentucky and everybody
knows him as well. Quarterback Zach Calzada is the quarterback.
He has been to incarnet Word, Auburn, Texas, A and
(13:18):
m another kid at his third SEC school.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
At the quarterback and then running back.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
They did another or Drew Dante dal from Nebraska or
Seth McGowan from New Mexico State.
Speaker 7 (13:30):
I'm excited about these two. Dald l a little more power,
gonna punch in those goal line runs, but we couldn't
get in the end zone last year. McGowan more like
a pro type back. He's got a very unique path
in getting here, but I'm excited to watch him. It's
crazy You've got in will Cox's your leading rusher a
year ago and now he's down to fourth. So that
room has really improved.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Ryan do you know who our kicker is? I do
not know who our kicker? Do you do you Drew?
Drew does? Drew? Do you know what state our kicker
is from?
Speaker 7 (13:57):
I'm gonna say it's somewhere away out there. It's like Montana.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
It is Montana. We have a Montana kicker, Jacob Cawe.
Speaker 7 (14:06):
I think I actually not great.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
He's apparently can kick it sixty yards over a mountain
and he's from Montana and this will be his first
year kicking. H he is our kicker. Of course, our
punter is from Snout Snout, South Africa.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
The one story is that they're not gonna have Jamory
Macklin returning punts now, Ryan, They're gonna have Ty Bryant,
your guy from Frederick Douglas.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Ty Bryant returned to a lot of kicks. If Frederick
Douglas ran a lot back for touchdowns, I thought they
may give Montavian Quizenberry a shot at doing that too,
maybe this season.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
The kid from Boyle County.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Is that an offense that you think can put up points?
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I think it's an author to put up points.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
A big did you hear that? Big deep breath? I
don't think it was a big, deep breath that worries
me a little bit.
Speaker 6 (14:48):
So I think he can put up points. I don't
think they can put up a lot of points. I
think we're gonna have to win our games like twenty
one to twenty fourteen to thirteen.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
So you don't think this is gonna be an exciting offense.
Speaker 6 (14:59):
I don't think it's gonna a big explosive, lighting up
the scoreboard offense.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
Stoops is going back to his old ways. You're gonna
run the damn ball. So that offensive line has to
be good, and I think they have to start stay
healthy the two deep. There are a lot of freshmen
in there. They've got some guys that still have to
bulk up on the on the coming off the bench.
So if the if the main five can play well
and stay healthy, I think they'll be able to run
and set up Calzada to take a few shots.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
What sticks out to me big picture is there is
there is some return are some returning players, specifically the
tight end two offensive linemen, but this is a new offense,
like this is a completely new group. Probably of the
guys that are going to start on this week compared
to starting on week one last year, you're looking at
(15:43):
like one guy like Josh Katison, or two Jagger Burt
everybody else.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Ryan. It's a new group. We'll see what happens.
Speaker 6 (15:51):
That's why we you know, somebody got on us yesterday
about we don't know the names or how they're gonna
do because they're brought new faces. It's a whole new offense,
a whole new look, whole new position. These guys are
playing completely.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
New We'll see how it works out.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
We will do the defense and other stuff going into it,
including you know, sometimes when Ryan Lemon makes his mayoral decisions,
they do not They're not always popular. I'm gonna get
him to make his gubernatorial decisions. All right, This is
a this is an issue I think could go either way.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
What would Ryan Lemon do? We'll take a break, be
right back. It's Ksorry Ruler back. Take you sports radio.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two
five four.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Let me quickly go through the other starters.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Mcqueez, Humphrey Grace from he comes from South Dakota and Princeton.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
It feels like a pretty big jump.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Until that's the first time I've heard that dude's name.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Well, he's your starting defensive ends of the best players
he might be, he might literally be one of the
highest tuted players we have.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I'm hearing his name for the first time.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
Well, hopefully you hear him more. David Gusta, he's supposed
to be.
Speaker 7 (16:58):
Really good from Washington, best on defense.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
He's gonna be our best defensive player.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
I think the defensive line is a big strength.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
All right.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
And then Khalil Saunders has been on the team. We
know him outside linebacker Sam Green from Southern col de
Verne Rainer he's from Northern Illinois.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
He played a lot last year.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Oh, that's the guy that's mad at us. That's the
guy that jumped Okay, got him.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
He's gonna do great.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
He's really good.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Alex Safari we know Kwai Sheed.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Scott, I'm hearing that name for the first time.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
He's our nickel.
Speaker 7 (17:36):
He's been here before.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Don't know him.
Speaker 7 (17:38):
Gonna have to make a big jump.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
DJ Waller that's he was here last year. Came from Michigan, right.
J Q.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Hardaway was here last year. Todd Bright was here last year.
Jordan Love it was here last year. So the secondary
is all are all guys that we that have been here,
But the back five are all guys that we know.
Speaker 7 (17:56):
Uh. Secondary and defensive line shouldn't be too concerned.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
That's not a huge lot of changes on defense.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
In the starting real backers are all pretty much new.
Even Afar, he came here as a defensive back. He's
been on the team for five years, but he's moved
up taking on a bigger role. If the linebackers play well,
I think Kentucky will get back to having a good defense.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
Mark Stoupis was asked what do you think about there
being nine SEC games, and he said, you know, I
made my opinion clear on that in the past, but
now that it's come and bring it on, I like
that attitude to be honest with you, Ryan, like, I mean,
what are you gonna do about it?
Speaker 4 (18:28):
At this point? You gotta it's it's happening, so we
might as well make it work.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
I remember he came on this show after the COVID
year they had to play ten SEC games. He said
there was no way he would ever be in favor
of expanding it more than eight games.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
But now he's like, there's you know, it is what
it is. We have to we have to. You can't
hike from it. You gotta go out and play the games.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
So with all that said, gave you the roster, gave
you the teams, et cetera. Is that a better football
team than last year?
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Or no?
Speaker 7 (18:55):
I don't think scume even close. I've thought that since
December they'll be better than last year. How good will
be still a little uncertain. But just mentioned Willcox going
from your top rusher to probably not playing much. I mean,
you've added so many pieces that have improved. I mean,
I think we can all expect whatever Calzada is. Surely
he won't quit football and go back to hunting because
it was so bad. They've improved a lot across the board.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
I feel like.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
That is true.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
I mean, I don't think it gets taught. To me,
the most legendary UK football quarterback story is that we
had a quarterback skip the final game to take the
l SAT. I mean, I think that's like, we'll never
top that we had a UK football player skip the
final game to take the l SAT.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
YEP.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
This one though, of him quitting football to go hunting
is it's second to that. But it's not really his fault.
The line was awful. It can't be that bad.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
But I mean, that's what I'm saying. I'm not blaming him.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
I'm just saying, if your experience was so bad, you
decided I don't even want to play this game anymore.
Speaker 7 (19:56):
I want to a turkey hunt.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
That's not a great sign for how things went right.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
So we can expect Calzada to make we can expect
that my goodness to burn it down.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
But yeah, the quarterback play I think will be better.
The offenctive line play will be better. I think our
running game will be better.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
All right, So that's my football thing. Let's talk about basketball.
Did you see what Todd Golden said yesterday that day
about Denzel Aberdeen, the UK player.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
So Denzel Aberdeen, of course came from Florida.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Todd Golden went on John Rothstein's podcast, said I love
Denzel Aberdeen. He's great, But ultimately I guess he had
to make a financial decision to go to Kentucky. And
he says, we're not too happy about it. I'm sure
our fans are looking forward to when he comes back here.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
To the Odome. Kind of a little trash talking from
a coach in a way you don't often see coaches
react to players that leave.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
What'd you make of that? I can see why he's
he's butt hurt. You know, they just won a national title.
Why exactly why is he butt hurt? This can't help
win him a national time? And I think he thought
he was going to be the main cog of rebuilding
the next year's team, and I think you know, assume
he would be back and build around him.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
But let me ask you all something.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Did Todd Golden leave San Francisco for Florida? Does anybody
remember that? Did Todd Golden leave San Francisco for Florida
for more money? I believe he did. Did Todd Golden
act like it was completely normal for him to go
somewhere else for more money?
Speaker 2 (21:35):
So maybe a financial decision? So that was a financial decise.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
So why does he think that it's somehow a reason
to be angry that Denzel Aberdeen might have done the
same thing.
Speaker 7 (21:49):
I think we just need to get used to this
where coaches. Maybe I'm sure we wanted to keep Aberdeen
six manter national championship team, but he's making a point
to really let people know that Kentucky overpaid. He's trying
to say, we could. We had a number, we thought
it was good, but oh, he had to go to
Kentucky because it was just this outrageous number that we
weren't gonna make.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Yeah, you know what that's like.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
But I think we're gonna be hearing this a lot
in recruiting. They're gonna make an excuse for why a
player that is beloved went to another school, and they're
just gonna say.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
It annoys me so much that these coaches act like
they own these players. It annoys me to no end
because they never hold themselves to the same standard Todd. Go. Listen,
if Kentucky were to offer Todd Golden four million dollars
more of a year than Florida, Florida were to say no,
(22:36):
what would Todd Golden do? He believed he would come
to Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (22:41):
He would, so he decided not to give as much
as Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
That's your choice. Maybe it was the right choice. I
don't know. But how could you act like Denzel Aberdeen
shouldn't have done it?
Speaker 7 (22:55):
Yeah, and we had the money, We'll take him.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Sorry, you broke apparently, Sorry you don't have just sorry,
we'll We'll be right back. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney
called TJ. He'll make them.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Pay now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
Here's Matt Jones work back.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
If I'm nine two eight to twenty two eighty seven
here at the opening of KS bar. We will open
here in about thirty minutes. Got some folks here from Lancaster,
We got Mount Vernon, we got some faces we are
used to from the days in the past, and we're
gonna open here in a bit. Mario is uh, Mario's
gonna be here taking pictures.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Got a new haircut. You see that dude.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
Mario gets his hair done more than you like once
a week. I'm like, can you meet Mario? Get my
hair done like he's but looks good.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
I like it. How does it take hour and a half?
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (23:45):
That yours take that long?
Speaker 6 (23:47):
It takes like thirty seconds. I did wash my hair,
try to style it for the big commercial shoot today.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Speaking of hair, did you see the big tennis player
Carlos Alcarez. I don't know why I did this like this,
How you're gonna serve?
Speaker 7 (24:01):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (24:02):
He debuted at the US Open. You know, he's a
number one player in the world. Shaved his head completely,
like uh, shaved his head like Ed Norton in American history. X.
He had great hair too, and women are very upset.
Women are like, what are you doing? You had great hair,
Why did you shave your head? And he said afterwards
that it just made it to where he felt like
it was easier for him to move across the court,
(24:24):
which I don't totally understand. I don't feel like hair
really hurts you in the game of tennis, But what
do you think about it?
Speaker 7 (24:30):
I think he copied off a Kentucky offensive lineman because
Josh Braun, who he mentioned, recently buzzed his head and
says he doesn't have to have to deal with his
hair during the football season. So maybe maybe it's just
a thing. You're so committed to your craft that you
don't want to have to get up and be like
Ryan and put product in it.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
But I feel like when you have great hair, you're
being rude to those of us that don't man by
not having it.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
Yes, like if you're Carlos Alcaraz, like you've been blessed
with the genetics of great hair. Don't spit in the
face Ryan of people who never had great hair by
not embracing it.
Speaker 6 (25:07):
Right, That's what That's how I kind of feel about it.
You know, those of us that are blessed with great hair,
we're going bald. You've got hair, We'll trade you in
a second. We could man show off that hair. Live
it up.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
I don't like Mark Pope.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Like Mark, Pope has hair, yeah, but he chooses voluntarily
to buzz his hair.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
I I don't are there many people that do that.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Buzz Williams claims he does. I don't know, Buzz.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
No.
Speaker 7 (25:34):
He says he does the same.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Thing as Pope. Buzz Williams claims he has.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
Haird It's almost like the exact same same same excuses
Pope that.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
He has hair now because he got a transplant.
Speaker 7 (25:44):
Yeah, he says it was for years like Pope, I
got a bunch of girls and a wife, and I
would just shave my head and one last thing to
deal with.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
So he's claiming that's not a transplant.
Speaker 7 (25:52):
Yep, I believe Pope. You can see Pope's hair.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
No, No, I think Pope has hair. Buzz that's what he's
going would tell me, Buzz Williams is saying that's not
a transplant.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
He went, I think it was part of my take
years ago, and it did just just to save money
and time. Just shaves his head.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Shannon, you believe that.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
I mean, why would you get a hair transplant then
shave your head will be the point in that.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
So I do believe it because he's claiming the transplant.
He's just saying. That's why now I'm.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Saying to you, he I thought what he had this
year was a transplant, but you're saying it's not.
Speaker 6 (26:22):
He's saying it's his natural hair. He's just not cutting it.
Is then anymore?
Speaker 7 (26:27):
Said he said to save money when they had another daughter.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
I believe that.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
I want you all to be my my counsel and
give me your opinion on this. This is happening right now.
If you were in charge of the state, what would
you do. Fourteen hundred and sixty two Kentuckians, due to
a mistake by the state, were accidentally sent is it ebt?
(26:54):
Is that what it's called when you ebt claims? So
they were sent basically stuffed for food, right that you
send to people who are struggling. Four hundred and sixty
two families were sent it for children that didn't qualify.
They just accidentally sent it to the wrong people. The
(27:15):
people got them and were able to spend them. I
think they said there were a few hundred that had
spent it, some that didn't. The state is now going
back to them and saying you have to pay that
money back, and if you don't pay the money back,
we will tax it to you as income and you
have to pay it all back. Well, I think it's
(27:36):
even like a fine if you don't pay it back.
Some of these people are saying, like I thought, maybe
we just got I mean when state sent.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
It, I thought we were good.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
Oh I got approved.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
I've spent it, and I don't have the money to
pay it back because some of these most of these
people were not rich.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
These were people who were right.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
I think what it was is, let's say the line
was twenty five thousd dollars. They gave it for people
who are up to like thirty five thousand. They just
made the wrong line. It was in four counties, one
of which is Scott County. It was the state acknowledges
it was its mistake, but as of now, the state
is saying you have to pay this money back. Do
you think if the state sends you money and they're
(28:18):
wrong that and you've had time to spend it, you
didn't do you didn't file anything illegally, that it was
the state's mistake.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Do you think you should have to pay it back?
Speaker 6 (28:30):
I'll go first. I'm wonst say no. States should stand up.
We made a mistake. But Lady Lucky is shine on you.
Guys right now, welcome a gift from you. The State
of Kentucky will correct it and it won't happen again.
I think they just got to eat it.
Speaker 7 (28:44):
I think you got to eat it too. You're probably
dealing with a lot of lower income people, and you're
just gonna put them in a much worse spot than
they were in when they applied to get it.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
If this were they didn't apply like they like people
who were just sent the money.
Speaker 7 (28:55):
If you know, if they accidentally wired you fifty thousand
dollars in CA, okay, you shouldn't spend it. You should
know that's not correct. But ebt you to get food
even if you weren't supposed to get it. I don't
think they can then take that back from you over
their era. They just need to say, are bad and
you got away with this one, Shannon, what about you?
Speaker 3 (29:10):
The state should own it and they made the mistake.
And I mean, what are those people supposed to think
now anytime they get sent money, we should wait maybe
a year. That's true, Like they'll never trust me, gess
to come right back, you know.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Well okay, so let me what what about this? And
this isn't I don't think true with these people. But
what if you could show that the people knew they
weren't supposed to get it.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
And we're like, well, I must have gotten lucky.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Okay, let's say let's say they knew they weren't supposed
to get it. So let's say you know what you
get every month from my heart? Okay, let's say next
month you get two thousand more dollars.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
This happened to me, by the way.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
You know what happened to me too. You know this,
this happened to all of you.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
I oh, a significant amount of money back to the company.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Oh you owe you owe money, Shann, Yes, you owe money.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I have to pay it back by the end of
the year.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
They gave me some of Drew's paycheck one time, but
I didn't have to pay that back.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Oh, you didn't have to pay it my money and
told me to.
Speaker 7 (30:12):
Deal with it.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
They're making me pay it back.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Oh wait, so they're not making you pay it back.
Speaker 7 (30:17):
This could be a whole meeting, yes, that we should
have had.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Maybe we should hear this out here on the air.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
But okay, So Shannon, when you decide when you heard
you had to pay it back, do you think you
should have to pay it back.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
No, they made a mistake. I'll tell you what they shouldn't.
They'll never make that mistake again if they didn't have
to pay If I didn't have to pay them back,
you know.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
See.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
I But men, what are you gonna do about it?
Speaker 5 (30:41):
When we did this, this happened with KSR with someone
where they stopped working for us. Oh yeah, and the
system kept paying them and that person didn't know that
they were not working for us anymore and was just
taking the money. And that really frustrated to me. So
for me, it's weird. It's almost like the knowledge makes
(31:04):
a difference for me. But for these people, I think
it's different. When it's the state, you have to assume
the state's not gonna screw up. If you get money
from the state, you have to assume the state knows
what it's doing.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
Right, wouldn't you think?
Speaker 6 (31:16):
I don'tould think that a lot of these people, like
you said when maybe we're on the borderline of receiving
some kind of funds anyway, so maybe they thought the
state is finally gonna you know, we didn't get the
big COVID return or the tax return or whatever, but
there's state's gonna kind of reward us with this.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
You certainly wouldn't think the state would give you money
and it wasn't correct.
Speaker 7 (31:35):
Yeah, EBT for groceries, not like here's a big large
sum of cash. That's a big difference for me.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
That's true.
Speaker 7 (31:42):
There's limitations.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
It wasn't used to like go to the car. Yeah. Yeah,
Well I didn't realize i'd touched a nerves. No idea
that's happened with all three of you.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
Well, I didn't even know what Drew told me. Said, Hey,
I think they gave you some of my page, Like
I had had no idea that he even told me.
Speaker 7 (32:03):
All right, I can do a whole lot on this.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Yeah, next segment, let's continue.
Speaker 5 (32:10):
Let me tell you something I could hear in Shannon's
voice when there's something that like.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
I don't even know how that happened, touches him a
certain way.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
How does that even happen?
Speaker 4 (32:20):
I think, Well, I can tell you how it can happen.
I mean when when we ended up paying when we
ended up paying someone who you know, you don't necessarily
see it minute to minute.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
It's just all of a sudden because you like, when
we were paying someone who didn't work for us anymore.
We were used to seeing the monthly thing, and then
all of a sudden we were like, why is this
going up? And we didn't know until we'd hired someone else,
and it's like, why are these expenses so much?
Speaker 4 (32:45):
And then we realized it. Yeah, so I don't know.
I mean, I but I can also see why if
you were like I thought, I got this, I don't
have the money to pay it back like this minute,
you know, and I understand.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
That I'm sitting there, understand where's the money at I
try and I'm sitting there in Georgetown. I get this
DBT car like I can feed my kids this week.
You're excited about it?
Speaker 5 (33:08):
Yeah, well, right now the state is saying to pay
it back although I do wonder if that will change
in the coming beak. Does your car smell like French
fries and scream every time it starts?
Speaker 4 (33:21):
That's quite a way to start this read here.
Speaker 7 (33:23):
I can't say that it does.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Are they trying to sell me a car that smells
like French fries? No, they're saying, maybe it's time to
get a new car.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
From Don Franklin's family of dealerships. Shot from the cool
comfort of your Don Franklin dot Auto dot com, you'll
find a ride so nice your neighbor will be jealous.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
No matter your situation, Don Franklin can help you.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
Over six thousand vehicles, twenty seven dealerships all across the state.
It's Don Franklin Auto dot Com. They have a huge
selection new twenty twenty five models. Chevy, Buick, GMC, Hyunday, Nissan, Chrysler, Jodge, Jam, Jam, Jeep, Ram,
Fiat Kiya, Mitsubishi, Ford, Lincoln, Genesis Cat Like it's all there,
Don Franklin Auto dot Com.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Don Franklin driven by family. I can tell when Shannon.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Don't mess with my money.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
Shannon, I'll with a lot of stuff. And everybody's got
their thing right.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Everybody's got their thing, like I don't want to be
lied to, right Ryan, Well, but everybody has their thing.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
That really gets a micro like for me, it's line.
For you, it's like betrayal, right right, and that's the
thing for you. I don't know exactly what it is
for you, Drew. I don't get angry.
Speaker 7 (34:32):
I genuinely don't.
Speaker 5 (34:32):
But for Shannon it's money. The thing for Shannon is
and has always been money. We'll take a break right
back this CHAOSR Well, the text machine shows that this
is an issue that's happened to a lot of people.
Apparently it's okay. So let me be clear on two
things I got wrong there. Just for factuacracy, it's not
the state. It is state money, but distributed by the
(34:54):
It's the counties that made the mistake. Am I right
about that? It's a school districts. It's the school districts
that make the mistake. Its state money, but it's a
school district and it was people who were already qualified
for EBT got more money than they would have thought.
So it wasn't that people who did so these are
people who are already are already on benefits. So they
(35:15):
just got so they need it, so they just got
more than they normally would have.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Got, just like a Christmas bonus you get. Sometimes it
just got a little.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
It's not there's somebody here who said that this has
happened to them, and the state does make you take.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
It, but they make you pay it back.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Yes, that's that was the story. I just I just
did it in the last segment. They make you pay
it back.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
I don't think that's right. The problem is you say
you don't think it's right.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Yeah, you don't think it's right, like it shouldn't happen
or it doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
I don't think it's right. They make these people pay
it back.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Well, well, yeah, we agree on that, all right. I'm
nine eight twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Who's up first, Shit, let's go to Chris. Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Speaker 8 (35:55):
Hey, I just wanted to start off by saying, I'm
I'm making a twelve hour trip to uh up there
to for the first game. Very excited. The best thing
about the beginning of the season is everybody's records the same.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
That's true. It's on your twelve hour trip.
Speaker 8 (36:10):
By the way, I've already I've already made plans. I'll
be there nine o'clock in the morning. But the uh,
but to your to your topic there, I actually just
I won't say which large home improvement store, but I
just made some home improvements and I went to return
(36:31):
to material and instead of credited me back eight pieces
of tile, I didn't find out till three weeks later
they credited me back eighteen cases of tile.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
So when you got that credit, though, did you know
it was more money than you were supposed to get?
Speaker 8 (36:47):
Oh? Yeah, absolutely it was. It was I mean, the
difference from eighty dollars to twenty three.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
So what did you do?
Speaker 8 (36:56):
I didn't realize, Well I didn't. Here's my where I
was torn. Had I known right away, I would have
immediately probably returned it, okay, But I didn't find out
until three weeks later when I looked at my receipts
on i'll say it on my Low's gift card. And
(37:17):
at that point in time, I literally just gave it
back to him. Well, I gave it back to him
in the sense that I bought new doors for my house.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Yeah, I mean, and I are I appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
In that situation, i'd even be more mad Adam, like,
I just gave you the money.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
I think this kind of thing happens a lot.
Speaker 5 (37:36):
I'm generally of the view that the person that makes
a mistake has to eat it unless the entity that.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Knows knows, and then it's just like yay.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
But how do you prove that? I don't even know
if there is a way to prove that, to be
honest with you, how do you prove what people know?
It's very difficult.
Speaker 7 (37:53):
I had this happen earlier this year where I got
some money put in my account and it was very
obvious it wasn't supposed to be mine, and I thought
him for a second, I thought, the hassle of this
will be when it is found is more than I
want to deal with. So I within an hour it
was like, hey, can we settle this asap? But it
was like an obvious Yeah, I knew it wasn't supposed
to be mine.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
It was clear, well.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
Interesting stuff five nine, two, eight oh, twenty two eighty seven.
Did you like the pictures Ryan of the basketball team
bonding by ziplining and all the various things they did.
They went, they went ziplining, they went repelling, they did
basically all the things I'm gonna do in South Africa.
And then there's that picture of Mark Pope with his
feet up in the air going down the mountain.
Speaker 6 (38:35):
I love it. I mean, you know, you may not
think stuff like that matters.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
It matters.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
We got in a group of these, These are kids,
you know, you're eighteen, nineteen, twenty year old kids. And
to get him to go to Natural Bridge and Laurel
Lake and ziplining and do that kind of stuff. I mean,
I think it was awesome, a great time of year
to do it. So why not do something like that
as a bonding experience?
Speaker 7 (38:53):
Are you worried they played pickleball? Though?
Speaker 4 (38:54):
So well that was gonna be part two.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
You know, I want this team to be really, really successful,
and picking up the pickleball rackets it makes me a
little bit nervous because I mean, there is there is nobody.
I mean, do you think that you think Kobe Bryant
played pickleball?
Speaker 7 (39:13):
Probably you do. I don't think it was invented yet,
but maybe he wouldn't now he'd owned the league.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Yeah, I don't know. I didn't like the pickleball, but
you know what I I do like all things bonding,
but I didn't like that.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
It was interesting seeing a seven foot or just riding
to jet ski around cumbert or wherever they were. The
chandler looks like he's he's done some laking before.
Speaker 5 (39:32):
They Yeah, they did. I mean they went so the
basketball team. They went to Natural Bridge, they went to
Lake Cumberland, they went to the gorge. I mean he
basically Mark Pope took them around the sort of you know,
the highlights of Kentucky to see the beautiful.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
Parts of our state. Yeah, teaching them about I like that.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
Mark Pope does that. I do like that. Mark Pope
seems to want to show the guys the state. Huh.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
I think there's value in that for so that they
know what they're representing. I get that, like they're getting
money and I get all that, but there is value
in knowing what they're a part of, et cetera.
Speaker 7 (40:08):
Yeah. Uh, you know. Unfortunately they've had to go out
in the state for fundraising for issues we had, but
it's also good for them to just go out for
whether it's at a boat and meeting the people that
around or assume a grand openings of things. It's just
good for them to know the fan base to representing.
Speaker 5 (40:21):
There was a great there's a great story which I
encourage everybody to read about the revitalization of Horse Cave, Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
I guess Horse.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
Cave has caves, yeah, not surprisingly, and starting in like
the fifties, they had started to let sewage get it
down in there and waste from a industry, and their
caves smelled apparently just hideous.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (40:48):
You couldn't even walk by the cave without the smell
just knocking you down. And I guess they started some
project in like the eighties to try to clean it up.
And now this town of three thousand people gets like
one hundred and fifty thousand people a year in their caves.
It's revitalized that the town.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
Excuse me, the town has like three thousand people, has.
Speaker 5 (41:10):
Getting all these people, and it's all because they got
rid of the stink in Horse Cave. The New York
Times did a long feature about the removal of the
Horse Cave stink.
Speaker 7 (41:20):
I read the first three paragraphs and saw the photos,
so it asked for my password, but I was really
into it. It's fascinating, Like the images look cool and
it looks like it's be it.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
Looks awesome, like it looks awesome and unlike and it's
easily accessible, like apparently you know, it's easy to get
in and then get out of.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
People are coming from all over. But I didn't realize
did you know that that was there? I mean, I
guess you assume with cave in the name it was.
Speaker 6 (41:44):
But yeah, we have a listener and he'll probably text
me today. He's offered to give us a tour of
the new Horse Cave, the cave now that they do.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
They said that.
Speaker 5 (41:52):
Part of the reason the downtown business is closed is
that the caves stunk so bad, wow, that you couldn't
even walk down the street without being knocked down by
the smell of cave stink.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
And now all that stink is gone.
Speaker 7 (42:09):
I'd want to buy a stocking Horse Cave. I feel
like it's on the way up now they got rid
of the smell. Yeah, it feels like an oasis in
that cave.
Speaker 5 (42:14):
Seems like at eight five nine two eight twenty two
eighty seven k s bar. We're going to open here
just momentarily. Yeah, have lunch and see. Yes, we'll take
a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
