Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio present it
by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones welcome back.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
I remember two Tucky Sports Radio here live at the
ks Bar.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
You could do better than that.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
There you go right at the KS Bar and grill
we are. We have just opened after a three month hiatus. Yes,
and folks here eating lunch. We appreciate all of them
joining us.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
We'll be here.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
So I'll be here today during the show and then
from twelve to three. The moment this show ends, Ryan,
I flip it over and ESPN begins.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
You said earlier, I's been talking about this. They send
you your production list at eleven thirty. You can't review
it because you're doing this show. You're gonna be just
going and naked us.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
I'm not gonna be naked.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
I'm gonna go ahead and wear my clothes during the
entire show today. Thank you, You're welcome. I've got let's
see Segment one, Trey Hendrickson and the and the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Segment two, Darn Revis calls out the NFL Players Association.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Don't wow, don't even know.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Necessarily what that means. Giants released. Tommy DeVito figured that'd
be a big one. That was all over my feed
this morning. The QB situation in New York. Yeah, so
ready should be should be exciting, all right. One person
writes on the text machine, Matt. With UK football starting Saturday,
do you think there will be any changes or anything
(02:28):
done by UK to make the game day experience more
exciting this Saturday?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
I hope so now, I mean I do hope. So.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
I don't know if they've done anything, but again, part
of what you're gonna have to do to kind of
get this new air going in theory is that you
would like to do all of that, Ryan, I hope.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
So, I have very little expectations that that has happened,
but I'm hoping there's stuff new. I will say, I'm
surprised by a lot of people getting excited about the tailgating,
at least online. I'm starting to feel good about that
early pregame scene being week one, but as far as
any upgrades to the experience, I don't have a lot
of faith in you can't doing that.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
You know, people have had their tenth spots reserved for
a couple of weeks out there. You drive over there
and they're there everywhere. So if all those people show up,
it could be a great environment. But are they doing
anything new that I don't know yet.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, I mean the game is at twelve forty five.
The weather is supposed to be like perfect perfect, right,
I mean the way like it's it's supposed to be
the best football weather you can imagine, like seventy nine.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Degrees for August in August.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
I mean, it's gonna be about as good as you
can be sunny. I mean, if you're trying to think
of a time to go to a game. Tickets for
those who like, they're gonna be relatively cheap. As the
guy who called, or who called earlier, or maybe it
was you that was sitting here said Hope springs eternal
like everybody is.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I guess it wouldn't you. It was a car, but
like everybody is.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Zero and zero now right, So I mean, but as
far as like, are they gonna do anything.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
New, I don't know. I haven't heard.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
We're getting doom as Walker, We're getting all roads Ley
to Lexington. I don't know if they still have the
big blue drum that only lasted a season or.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Two, that's true. Whatever happened at the big drum? Did
we have a drum?
Speaker 5 (04:11):
We tried to make it a thing? What was the drum?
They rolled out a drum and then hit it and
then we were like yeah, and then they like art
still did the first.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
One we hit it and we said yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
We were like, all right, drum.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Is that the thing that show up in the new
video game where they're beating the drum to go Big Blue?
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Ea sports the message that we didn't really get it.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Wait wit we we had a drum?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, those big, huge bass drums. They rolled it out
and before the game they would have a former player
come out and bang it. And it lasted like maybe
one season, did not take off.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Why what were people supposed to do?
Speaker 5 (04:47):
We weren't sure. They'd bring it out and then it'd
be like boom.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Everybody would clap, and then we'd be like, all right, disappeared.
Did you know there was a drum just only from
that video? Only from the video? Yeah, and I think they.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Were supposed to go go Big Blue and he's supposed
to hit it on beat.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
So did they highlight the drum on the video game? Yeah? Yeah,
like that's what they show, but we don't really do that.
I don't remember still have it.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
It never really never really got going.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I don't remember seeing it at all last year now,
I think about it.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
Missouri has one called like Big Mo and it's a
big thing, and I think we tried to borrow from
them and it didn't.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
It just didn't hit we did.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
I don't know if we're a drum crowd. We're still
trying to get doom as Walker going.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
I got an email today from UK It says get
game Day Ready. I thought, well, this might be the
list of stuff they're going to do for game Day.
Now it's just an advertising about in the UK shoes,
visit the UK shop to buy shoes.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
I mean again, we've spent a lot of the off
season talking about how it would have been nice to
introduce people to the uh TO stuff, and it would
have been nice to do this, and it would have
been nice to do that.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
But really that stuff just.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Didn't didn't happen much, and uh, I guess you can
just kind of assume it's not going to happen, right, Yeah,
we see.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
I don't like to give them credit, but you can
turn on a night game at Nalen or just about
anywhere and it is just a different fan experience that
it's here Kentucky. That's just not a strength. Mitch Barnhardt
it's been a few years. But then you say fans
need air conditioning, place to sit in the water or
something stupid like that. It's just being at the Well
he's trying.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
He's very old school on he thinks. I mean, he
just thinks this is well, first of all, I mean,
here's the thing about Mitch. He thinks all fans. I've
always known this about him, even when I talk to him.
He thinks all fans are like.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Him, right.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
He believes this is what I like in a game,
this is what people like in a game. And I've
said this a lot, and it's no offense to him
because I think he's done a really good job on
a lot of stuff. You have to talk to people
that are not the people that are in your your zone,
and I just don't know how much of that of
(06:50):
that happens with him.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Well, you said he only kind of answers his email,
Well who emails?
Speaker 4 (06:55):
If you brag about not being on social media, well,
I mean, you're not gonna know what a significant chunk
of the fan base wants. So we have Missouri has
the worst game day experience in the SEC. Fandy does
two pretty close. Yep, But we're probably after that, I mean,
we're probably of the game day experiences, we're probably fourteenth
(07:18):
of the sixteen. Now in basketball, that's not true in basketball.
I would say, where would you rank the Kentucky basketball
game day experience in the SEC?
Speaker 5 (07:28):
I have a hard time rating it because every time
I go to an away game, it's the Kentucky game,
and they're just camping out in parking lots and it
looks like the greatest thing ever. But I know when
I'm not there with Kentucky, it is not.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, I mean I think I think that's a great point.
If you were to say average game day experience game
by game, Kentucky basketball is one. If you were to
say big game experience, though, you can make an argument
that Auburn or Arkansas, even Arkansas has a better big game,
But then we've seen Arkansas games where no one's there,
(08:00):
like no one. So I think if you said game
by game, Kentucky would still be number one.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
There's no doubt when it was a big game Rupperena's rocking,
it is the best.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
But when I see I think it's the opposite. I
think for an average game, Kentucky's the best. I think
in a big game. There's nothing no better than to
Auburn when they play Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Oh yeah, I've been down there, but Kentucky when it
like when the biggest games I've ever seen are Kentucky.
The atmosphere at Roperena is just like the best ever.
You know, like the Florida game and the O three,
you know, games like that, the North Carolina game where
Anthony blocked the shot.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
It's just amazing.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
I mean, I want to say that's true, and I
think it's I don't get me wrong, I think it's great.
But like you know, we were at Kentucky Indiana in
twenty in twenty twelve. I've been to many Duke Carolina games.
I've been to Michigan State Michigan right. Part of it's
(08:54):
just the size of Upperina. It just can't get as big.
But I but on a game in game out basis,
Kentucky's number one.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
And some of these the C schools you don't or
most of them, you don't get Kentucky on your campus.
But every other year, and if you don't have much
basketball history and that when the SEC is down, you know,
if you got Kentucky coming to your school, you circle
that the minute the schedule comes out and you're camping
out T shirts, I'm i gonna turn into cal here
and all that. How he skills it, But that is
the experience when Kentucky rolls into your town for a basket.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Remember when we played at West Virginia and we all
went to that game. We all like, my goodness, this
is awesome. It was West Virginia, but the atmosphere was
great that night because Kentucky was in town.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Ayf I'm nine two eighth, twenty two eighty seven. Who's
up next, Bobby, Bobby, go ahead, Bobby.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
Hey, guys, hope y'all are having a good day.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
I am with Shannon.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
I think that we will make a bowl game.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
And to all the.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
Haters out there that talk about cal Zada, there is
not a very long list of SEC quarterbacks of beating
of Sabing led Alabama teams that SEC quarterbacks have beaten,
So he's one of them. So just something to think about.
Speaker 5 (10:02):
He's taking down Saban.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Yes, remember Calzada has played well against Alabama. We've had
people say We've had people say, hey, you know, can
we not just have him be like he was in
that game?
Speaker 2 (10:14):
What do you think the best of Calzada will be
this year?
Speaker 5 (10:19):
We run it, run it, run it, run it, and
then he throws a bomb off a play action for
a touchdown. Yeah, or he gets the tight ends going.
I'm not gonna say this is the year, but you
have Willie Rodriguez who looks like a freak, Josh Katis
who's been playing every snap since he was a freshman.
Maybe look at him. But we're not going to talk
ourselves into a tight end year. But this would be
(10:39):
a good year for how Kalzada can really be helpful
to get those guys going.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
And I'm not mistaken. Calzada did not throw a lot
of interceptions that add incarnate word right like he's pretty acting,
makes good decisions.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
He does that. Yeah, they can do some magic then
maybe once in a while hope.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
So I mean, I I remember the game he played
so well and he beat Alabama.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
He looked amazing.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
It's been a while, but I also feel like he
gives us a shot, which is ultimately what our goal.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
You know, ultimately, that's all we can ask.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Even though he's got some swagger and he told us
he's won and done and he wants to show off
as Cannon. I'm I'm pretty ready to just go back
to hand it off if we have the offensive line
to do it and play defense and try to win
twenty two to twenty one. Because I was screaming, you
think that's the.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Best chance for Kentucky to win.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
I just think that if Mark Stoops is your coach,
that's the way you gotta do it. We saw what
happened when he tried to go out and get the
flashy playmakers and turn the offense into something he's not
used to.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
He's he's a ground and pounded guy. Yeah, if I'm
nine two eight zero twenty two eighty seven. What do
we think about the story that the Alabama assistants had
to call Nick Saban daddy?
Speaker 2 (11:50):
That's embarrassing. Have people seen this story? Yeah? Have you
all seen this story? It's embarrassing. Okay.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
So Seth Wickersham is writing a book about quarterbacks, and
in it he's telling stories about quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
And there's two parts of the story.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Part one is that the Alabama coach, Alabama's assistant. Let
me follow this. Alabama's assistant is recruiting arch Manning. Okay,
arch Manning, he's the assistant's on a zoom with Arch Manning,
and he says about the Texas coach, Steve Sarkisian, he's
(12:28):
my best friend. I love the guy. I hope that
he's able to stay sober, which is a really terrible
thing to say, if you think about it. I mean, like,
I love the guy, but I hope he's able to
stay sober.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
I don't know, Phil efriink it's pretty rude.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
But when they get off the call, one of the
other assistants looks at the guy who says that and goes, hey, dude,
that was a jerk thing to say, which good for
that assistant. Yes, right, and he said sorry, Daddy's on me.
And then Wickersham says the Alabama assistant coaches would refer
(13:05):
to Nick Saban as daddy, thoughts it's hard.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
To imagine an operation so professional as that that Saban
the got guys called him daddy.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Mario, you like that. Are you're gonna call Saban daddy? No,
you're not gonna do that.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
What I don't like it?
Speaker 4 (13:26):
I would I've gone on the record as saying, Ryan,
please don't call me daddy fat Stacks.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
I don't like that name.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
I think it's terrible, but at least he puts fat
stacks after of it. Because if Ryan just looked at
me and said daddy, I would fire him on the spot.
We call you uncle Matt, and I would ask him
to pay backpack.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
We call you uncle Matt. We we're come conversing with
each other. We may say, hey, Dad wants us to
do this.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Okay, there's a difference between dad and daddy. Daddy?
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Is that.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
There's a difference. Yeah, Dad is one thing, he is another.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
I'm not calling any by daddy.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Okay, that's different.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
And I think it's really funny to think of football
coaches calling each other daddy.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
You know, football coaches are all like, yeah, smack me
in the head, yeah right, right right, And they're like, Daddy, though,
wants me to get the player.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
I don't know, right, I don't know, Drew. I think
that's bizarre. And the fact that it's Alabama, that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
You think it like the probably the smoothest, most businesslike
operation in all of college football. They're calling him daddy
behind the scenes.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Do you think Nick Saban wants the Do you think
Nick Saban wants the assistance to call him dad?
Speaker 2 (14:36):
I care. I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
I can't. He seems just too intense to want to
be called daddy, like I would expect him to be
like call me sir at every moment.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Yeah, I think I just have to say I think
this story should be getting more attention, Like like, I
feel like I'm the only person that brought this up.
It's in a book, and it's about arch Manny. I mean,
this has all the things you would think would be
a big story. Arch Manning, Nick Saban, Alabama, Texas, they're
(15:06):
going to play each other.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
I just start getting called out, start.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Getting called out, start being called an alcoholic, A coach
bringing up that he's an alcoholic, A coach who now
coaches for Lane Kiffin saying it.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Sounds like you're the only ones who's read the book.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Maybe I haven't read the book. This was online. I haven't.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
I mean, anyway, I just find it to be a
little bit of a weird story.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
I agree with you. We call you dad. We don't
call you daddy. First, no one I don't call him.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
No one calls me dad. But you don't act like
that's normal. I don't like when you put familial terms
on me.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
Can you picture like UK assistants calling Stoop's daddy like
heck no, It's like I can't think of any coaching
operation than preferring him as daddy.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Belichick might have some people.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Yeah, Patino probably had a few.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Dad. We'll take a break, very quarterback techie sports radio.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
text machine is seven seven two seven four five two
five four Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
One person rights to Matt.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Do you think they will ask uh Nick Saban about
that on game day?
Speaker 2 (16:14):
No? I do not. I do not think they will
ask him that.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
You know, likek Pat McField trying to work one in.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Well, now, that actually might happen.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
What if you said, like listen daddy and then say
yeah after.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
That, Actually, no, you're right. I can see that. I
could see him doing that. I can see it.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Yeah, I could see him doing that. I think that
was Uh, that was a little bit. One person says,
you remember, Matt during COVID people were calling Andrew Basher
uh daddy, Yes they were, and uh I thought that
was odd, but it was it was women, which is
still odd in that about the governor. But it's not
the same as.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
Your your boss, Greg Ba I mean, it's definitely weird.
Not excusing it. I thought they ended up football locker room.
It was even weirder.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
The woman who started they're like govern me daddy thing,
which I made, to be fair, I made fun.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Of that at the time. Yes you did.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
I actually have gotten to know her and I like
her quite a bit, and I still am like, why.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Did you do that? She was like, well, I mean
was on TV everything. I was like you still, you
shouldn't have done it. He was right ahead in.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
That period we're all going through some things.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yes, he was like our father figure talking to us, helping.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
He was the governor. I thought he did a good
bed like he was not he wasn't Did you think
he was your father? You're older than he is. I
have mored than him. I gotta admit I.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
See your father figure when you're older.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
I don't think they were saying governor me, daddy and
the father.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
I think they mean it in a.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
More say yeah, I don't think it was quite like
you may meant, or maybe you did.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
I did say when you bought us all lunch yesterday,
thanks Dad, when you were paying again.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
But the d y does a lot of work in
in that sentence, you know, I said, thanks, daddy, Do
you want me to ask you to starting? I take
who's deck? Shannon, Matt, Matt, go ahead, Matt.
Speaker 8 (18:07):
Hey, guys, I heard you guys talk earlier about Alcaraz
and the haircut, and I decided to call in towards
enna that to hopefully I didn't miss this. Are you guys
aware of the reason that he cut his hair?
Speaker 2 (18:18):
He said his brother screwed up his hair. Is that right?
Speaker 7 (18:21):
That is correct?
Speaker 8 (18:22):
And yeah, he I guess he didn't fly his barber
out from Spain. Probably seems like a long trip. But yeah,
I just thought that was a pretty crazy story. And sorry,
I missed that towards the end.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
And I'll no, no, I didn't say that, but I
did hear that The reason he uh oh, yeah, I
appreciate the college. The reason he Alcoraz shaved his head
was his his brother screwed up his hair, uh, and
so he felt like he had to shave it.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Think about his brother. I mean, if you just open
the internet, you're going to see that on most sports websites.
His brothers created a big sports controversy here. Yeah, he
did get a loud applause, and also was that Katie
George from mobile interview.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
Katie George is now doing the uh, Katie George is
doing the interviews for the US Open.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
Down he asked the crowd if they approved. They cheered,
so we had a little bit of a moment there.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
In the match.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Katie George, by the way, is part of a nice
piece of KSR trivia, which is one year WDRB named
its Louisville Sports Figures of the Year and it was
three winners. The three winners were me, Katie George, an
American pharaoh, well, an American pharaoh of course, one of
(19:34):
the legendary horses. Katie George is now doing US Open
and et cetera. And then there's me and so I.
At first I was a little I felt a little
disrespect that I was tied with a horse, and I
think Katie George was like a senior in college at
the time or something. Now I think the horse and
her have definitely passed me. And now I am the
most embarrassing of the threesome that won that year.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
She's on my television on the main Arthur Ash Court
at US Open, and you got Ryan calling you daddy.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Yeah, not nearly, not nearly as impressive.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Cal Raley, the catcher for Seattle, got his fiftieth home
run last night of the season. Here's what I found interesting,
and I know you baseball guys will care about this.
Most home runs ever by a catcher. Does that surprise you.
He's he is in his rookie his first full season playing.
Has the most home runs in a season ever by
(20:30):
a catcher.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
I didn't realize that that was the record for most
home run by a catcher. But he's obviously had a
great season. When they call him Big Pumper, what's his
nicknamed Big Dumper? Big Dumper because he has a big butt.
That's why they call him that. They call him, they
call him the big Dumper.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
I was surprised they haven't had anyone get fifty home
runs up there in Seattle since Griffy. I know, fifties
a lot, but since Griffy, I thought they'd have somebody,
some power hitter.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
The chin and I was kind of surprised there's never
been a catcher to get fifty.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
And then I was sitting there and thinking, well, who
would it have been?
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, and I guess catcher like power hitters just aren't catchers.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
I'm sure why because usually a catcher is a big guy.
You would think that would be your power hitter.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
So I was surprised to hear that as well. I
didn't know that was the record. I guess the record
was Johnny Bench.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
I shall say Johnny Bench or Mike Piazza. They don't
play as many games. They get a break, you know,
every once in a while. Maybe that's why that's true.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that is the good point. Mike Piazza,
that's yeah, that's one. I would have thought. It feels
like he was a big home run hitter.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
But I was surprised to see I had no idea
that he was the He was the only one, didn't.
Pud Rodriguez, h yeahgez another Carlton Fisk.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
I guess as a dude who would hit a lot
of home runs.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Right, Trying to think other power hitting catchers, they're just
not on a lot of them out there.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, but Channon's right there. They tend to be big dudes,
so you would think there would be, uh, there would
be more than there are.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Who's next, justin? Justin, go ahead, justin?
Speaker 9 (21:49):
Yes, I think, uh, one thing that I see a
lot online. Is a lot of Kentucky fans think that
we're just guaranteed to get to only two wins. This
wins very possible your three uh small opponents. Then if
we're gonna be Kentucky ball, we need to get back
to beating Vandy. That's four. So then you just need
two more between. I'm not gonna say we're gonna beat
(22:11):
Texas or Tennessee, so I'm not even adding them. So
then you get your other two wins between either Auburn, Florida,
South Carolina or I can't remember that if the line
plays the way that they're supposed to do.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
But you just mentioned eight teams. I mean all those
teams you mentioned except Auburn, our top twenty five teams.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
I mean to say, likedy Okay, so yes, not bandy.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
But we're gonna be underdogs, likely in eight of our
twelve games, and if we're an underdog against Vandy, which
is plausible, we'll be an underdog in nine of our
twelve games.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Now that doesn't mean.
Speaker 9 (22:54):
You can't do We beat Ole Miss on the road
last year, then from what I understand, they're not gonna
be as good as this year because they don't have
Jackson Dart in their defense.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Okay, but hang on a second.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
You can't sit there and say we beat old Miss
last year and then act like Auburn didn't crush us
last year. So like, if you're gonna use your analogy
of we can beat Auburn, excuse mean, we can beat
old Miss because we beat him last year, then you
have to say Auburn is Auburn twenty five points better
than us?
Speaker 2 (23:26):
I mean, that's that's you. You gotta be fair.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
You can't just say, well, we beat o Miss and
we'll beat them, but let's ignore that Auburn in South
Carolina blew the brakes off of us.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
We'll be right back. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
He'll make them pay now.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Work come back in is Kentucky Sports Radio A f'm
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Text machine
is seven seven two seven seven four five two five
four ks bar is back open and love to have
you come out. We'll be here all week and then
of course Saturday as well. One person rights Matt. We
lost twenty four to ten last year to Auburn. They
(24:08):
didn't beat the breaks out off of us. We were
up ten to nothing after the first quarter. Well, yes,
but we were up ten nothing at the first quarter,
didn't score again the rest of the game. Auburn was awful.
They were reeling that year.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
And they won. And now we have to go to
their place when they are likely to be better. Now.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Do I think we can win? Yes, I think we
can win. Do I think we can win at Vandy?
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Do I think we can win? Do I think we
have to act like that we I don't think you
can make the case though, Hey we beat Old Miss,
they're not as good this year, so we should certainly
be able to beat them this year. And then ignore
what happened in the games against South Carolina, Georgia, you
know all those teams last year.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Yeah, I mean, you can't just look at the year
and repeat it, especially with fifty new players. But I
will agree with him that of the ones we have
the best shot at winning Ole Miss at home is
one of the better opportunities. I don't think we'll beat
Auburn on the road, not just looking at last year.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
I think they're.
Speaker 5 (25:11):
Improved the road game. I'm I'm looking at Florida and
Ole Miss, both been in Lexington as chances to win
one you're not really predicted to. I mean, it's hell,
it's been two years since they've won a home SEC game.
We gotta win one this year. I think those are
two that you're looking at.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Yeah, the path to six wins is when two of
the three road games of Auburn Vandy Louisville win one
of the home games Florida Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
To me, that's that's the path to six wins.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Two of Auburn Vandy Louisville one of Florida Tennessee. I'm
not gonna assume we beat Texas, Georgia or even Old Miss.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
I mean Florida Tennessee or Old Miss win one of those.
If Florida is coming here in mid November. They haven't
done that in thirty five years. They got quarterback concerns
with Lagway, who's supposed to be this great thing, but
his situation has been murky since he's been there. So
even though it's Florida, I'm looking at that one as
the one we need to take one, like four out
of five against them. Anywhere or whatever.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
It is. Kentucky's two and eleven in their last thirteen
SEC home games.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Two and eleven. That can't happen. But then you look
the schedule. This year we are two and eleven in
the last thirteen SEC home games.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Beating Florida a few years ago is the last time
we've we've won one.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I mean, I knew that, But then when you.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Say it, there's something about the way like when you
when you hear it like that that you SEC home games,
that's our home.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
You think you try to kind of pull something out.
Bandy's beat you two times, the last two times here
on your own field.
Speaker 4 (26:41):

go ahead, Adam.
Speaker 7 (27:12):
What's up, guys, Drew Shannon, I would have thought the
Hobby Lopez with the Braves. I know he had a
forty home run I'm.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Gonna read you.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
I'm gonna read you the top catcher home runs ever,
cal Riley now has fifty second. Salvador Perez with the
Kansas City Royals.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
How many of you would have gotten that?
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Then Johnny Bench with forty five, Hobby Lopez forty three,
Todd Hundley and Roy Campanella had forty one, and then
Mike Piazza and Johnny Bench had forty. Only eight times
in history has any player who's a catcher hit forty
home runs.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
In a season.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Someone wrote me that if you're a coacher that's a
great hitter, they'll move you to DHRA outfit a lot too,
so that might change the position.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
That's true, Mike, But go ahead, Adam.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
I think when you look at what is the best
version of this upcoming season, I think it's it's getting
back to running the ball, you know, converting short third downs,
not being in so many third and longs, And then
we don't need Calzada to be a will Levis, uh
Andre Woodson. We need him to be more of a
Terry Wilson than Steven Johnson. Just don't make you know,
(28:22):
don't make crazy mistakes and just manage the game.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
I agree with that. I appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
I mean, Will Levis won you games, but Steven Johnson
and Terry Wilson worked with others to manage victories.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Calzada is probably more of a quarterback like that.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
Would you agree, Yeah, But my big concern with him
is that, you know, he's very open. This is my
year to make the NFL. I worry he might try
to do too much in circumstances. I mean that's just
me speculating and play anything yet, but that if he
were gonna, you know, hurt Kentucky. I think turnovers and
try to do too much. No one, no quarterback says yeah,
I want to be a game man. But he just
needs to make the short media throws some leve struggle
(29:03):
with a little bit, and then when it opens up
to throw the deep one, you know, try to put
it on spot.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
I did like what Schoop said on his Coachy show
last night about Calzata. You know, all the talk about
cutter had. It was not a reflection on Kalsati. He said,
Kalsata has been great. He said, Cutter just kind of
exceeded our expectations kind of he elevated himself by his play.
But Kalzata has done nothing wrong. It's just was more
of a praise to Cutter, not a knock on Calsata.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
That's good to hear, Yeah it is. That's good to hear.
And we'll listen. All this talking in five days is
gonna be over. We're gonna know if he's good or not.
I mean, we're we're gonna know when I do that
postgame show that's gonna start about five o'clock on Saturday.
We're gonna know a lot. I don't think we'll know everything,
but we're gonna know a lot. But we did win
(29:46):
forty one to six last year against Ohio, and then
that didn't well.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
R two.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
That was a little later in the year. Week one,
the lightning Storm. We were killing Southern miss not probably
to the level of this Toledo team, but still a
respectable team. I mean, Bush Hampden showed in Game one
he can be ready to score some points. It didn't
continue the rest of the year. But Ohio and Southern
miss they piled it on.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
That's true. Who's next, William, William?
Speaker 10 (30:10):
Go ahead, William, Hey, good morning, Matt. I wanted to
call in a while ago, but in a small world,
actually had dinner with one of your aston Institute classmates,
Chris Johnson, really in Mississippi.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Yeah, that's the nicest guy. That might be the nicest
person I've like. He's an awesome dude. I'm glad to
hear you say. I'm glad you did that.
Speaker 10 (30:34):
Yeah, yeah, we I was working with the Mississippi legislature.
But anyway, small world. As it relates to the football season,
always Scott vin Pel always says being optimistic cost the same,
at least to start the year. I just you know,
I have no reason not to go into the season
and be optimistic about you know, I'm on team Shannon
making a bowl game. Might as well bet the over
(30:55):
for the season and bet the Cats to cover week
one because why not? Right, So, just got to go
into the season. At least that may change after week one,
but going into it, I think you might as well
be positive because it costs the same.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Totally agree with that. Yep, appreciate the call. Might as
well be positive this week as much as we can.
I mean, I'm I'm gonna try to be realistic about
our win total. But in terms of being excited about
the games, why not. We're gonna play it, why not
be excited. I mean, I'm I'm looking forward to Saturday morning.
I mean, I'm looking forward to being in this place Saturday.
(31:28):
I hope it has an electric atmosphere. I mean, we're
opening for breakfast. I hope people come. I want to
feel excitement during the game. I'd love to see that
stadium be rocking. You know, you only get twelve football
games a year. We might as well enjoy them. I mean,
this has been a long offseason, maybe the most boring
offseason I can remember in sports.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
We might as well might as well enjoy this.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
We only get seven eight where we really get to
be a part of it here in Lexington. You know,
the same game days and the chaos bar days not
quite as many as.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
What do you think about? Dave Portnoy.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Dave Portnoy banned from being on Ohio State's field for
the first for the first game of the year. For
people who don't know, runs barstool. He works for Fox
Sports and Fox Sports is doing the Ohio State Texas game.
They are going to be doing their pregame show from
the field, and Ohio State said Dave Portnoy cannot be
(32:24):
on their field. He's a Michigan fan, talks a lot
of trash about Ohio State. What I think is interesting
about this, Let's let's let's let's say that ESPN were
to put me on college game day. They wouldn't, but
let's say they did and Louisville said he can't be
(32:45):
on our field. That's basically what you're talking about. It
is you think that's fair for UH Ohio.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
State to do.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
I think each school has the right to approve credentials
and disapprove credentials. Man, anybody, So if you apply for
Louisville and they know you're gonna be on game day
on their field, I can see them saying, that guy
ain't getting it, that guy is not getting a You.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Probably the only person they would probably think out like
I think.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
They would they would let me on. Now when Jorge
was here, they wouldn't let it. No way they would
let But don't you think that's petty? I mean, don't
you think that like I think that's unbelievably petty to say, like,
you know, that's part of his stick.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Are you so like.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
Ohio State put out something saying don't blame us, this
is all Fox that I don't believe to do with
it for it to come out.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
I mean, I mean that the story came out last
night and then Ohio State didn't put their statement out
until this morning. If it really wasn't them, they would
have jumped on it early and said it wasn't us.
I think they did damage control later.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
It's not game. No one watches that show. Who cares? What?
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Do youone know?
Speaker 5 (33:55):
What Dave Portnoy said on Ohio State's field Do you
think it seems soft? Oh, it definitely seems soft.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
You ain't it seems soft? Shannon?
Speaker 5 (34:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (34:03):
I mean, come on, well, you're making a bigger deal
out of this if you're Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
By doing that, I totally agree.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
I think you act like you don't even care that
you don't even give him the opportunity to be that
big I'd be like.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Who right, exactly, that's exactly what you would be.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Making a big deal about it now. Everybody's talking about it.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
That it is one of the it is one of
the lessons that over the years I've had to learn
and that people should learn all the time. If you
really want something to not be a deal, don't ignore.
That's why I think so much outrage in society is fake,
because the reason they're outraged is for content and clicks.
(34:42):
It's not because they're actually outraged, you know, It's because
it allows them to feed the machine. Same thing with this.
If you really want Portnoy to seem irrelevant, don't worry
about it. You have by being outraged, made him much
more relevant than he would have been if you had
just ignored it to begin with.
Speaker 5 (35:01):
And if you're port content guy, we know if you're
gonna play this well bigger and you know, give you
more confidence. You've got the school.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
He completely loves it.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
I mean, the best thing that happened to Drew's post
game basketball recap show was UK kicking him out because
we used it as a way to promote the show
and it became a thing like That's that that was.
If UK did not want Drew to get attention for
his postgame recap, they did the dumbest thing they could
have done, which was by saying he couldn't go there.
(35:34):
Had you just been standing there on the court, you'd
have had to build it a different way. But by
you being outside and us.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Being like, people searched him out.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
People searched him out, wanted to come on, say go
get him Drew like, that's the worst.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
The weather, the more people wanted to that's.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
So dumb, like people in Ohio State's fallen for the
same thing here.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
I with Drew, though I think it's one hundred percent
Ohio state. They may able to reach that statement, but
it was it was dim from the get go.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Of course it was. Yes, it's ridiculous for them to
act otherwise.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
If I nine two eight twenty two eighty seven, we're
here chat spond grill.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
We'll take a break, very back, Kentucky Sports Radio. What
song is this? Shannon? I don't think I know this? Huh.
I had no idea that that was a song.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Yeah, you know, nobody, There is nobody better than Shannon
and doing these sons.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Let me tell you about no Cha lind of Farms.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Right now, for the pop people here who are eating
the burgers, you are eating no Cha lind of Farms beef.
It is local Kentucky Proud beef. We're the only place
that serves it and I think it is absolutely.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Amazing and you can get it in your home.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Go to no Cha Lendofarms dot com and enjoy the
convenience of having great meal options wrapped and ready in
your in your freezer. This exact This the exact stuff
they give us you can take home with you. It's
fantastic quality beef. You guys have had it. You make
it all the time.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
We made no Cha lind of brisket last night. As
a matter of fact.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
It's the it's the beef and the grocery. You know
how they'll add color additives to make it look red.
That's why it turns brown in your refrigerator. Not with
no Cha Linda Farms. They're cattle or humanely raised the
highest standards, without steroids, hormones and antibiotics. It is no
Cha Lindafarms dot com. Did you see the fight between
the quarterback and the brother and his son outside the
(37:21):
game in Dublin, Ireland?
Speaker 5 (37:22):
I did what a wild scene to a father son fistfight.
You don't get that very often.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
You don't. You don't get that lot.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
So for people who don't know Kansas State's play in
Iowa State. Iowa State beat Kansas State. After the game,
the quarterback for Kansas State, the quarterback, his dad, and
his little brother get in a fistfight rolling on the
ground outside of the stadium. Kansas State fans have to
break it up. Kansas State fans are trying to basically
(37:52):
make it to where their own player's brother and and
dad will not fight each other.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
They're rolling in the rain. It's a disaster.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
After it's over, the father that the father releases a
statement saying, look, we just you know, this is what
happens in families.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
My bad. No, it doesn't. It doesn't.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
I don't think I've had zero fist fights with and
if I did, it would be my last fist fight.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
This was so embarrassing, embarrassing for the team, the family,
the quarterback. I mean, it was just it was it
was awful. Those those both those men need to grow up.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
Yeah, he said, are bickering escalated? I mean I've bickered
with people I haven't then rolled around outside of sporting
event has exactly to pull us off of each other.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
That's awful. It seems to really make you mad.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
I mean I've done some stupid stuff in my life
when it comes to a dad maybe yelling at an
official or yelling at a coach, but I'm not gonna
get into a fistfight with some of my own family
over a football game.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
It's just awful, and in a foreign country, shame on them.
Shame on them.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
If for people didn't see, It's not like they're having
a little dispute. I mean it is taking a crowd
to get them.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
Apart from yeah, and you do wonder like if the
people that are Kansas State fans this is their quarterback,
a good one, a good one.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
They probably knew it was his dad, right, I'm sure
they did.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
So imagine you know, I'm trying to think of what
the situation would be like. It would be as like,
can you imagine if you walked outside and like Will
Levis's dad was fighting his brother outside of Kroger Field
and you were just there and can't.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
Even imagine that? But Kansas State just got that.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
It's awful, the huge black eye on your program. You're
very angry about it.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
It really kind of upset me. I mean I felt
bad for the quarterback. I mean, he didn't ask for
any of this. He didn't sign up for this. His
dad and his little brother getting to a fight outside
the game in Dublin, Ireland as a trip of a lifetime.
Speaker 4 (39:48):
So what's the closest you've come to being if not
in a fistfight, something embarrassing with your with your with
your sons in public.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Well, I got kicked out of that coach Pitch's base
ball game one time when he was eight years old.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
That was not maybe the my shin, but.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
You weren't fighting with your kid. That was fighting on
behalf of your kid.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
I was just yelling at the umpire and he said,
don't say another word, and I said, you know, don't
touch him.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
That's it, you're out. Yeah, who was touching him? The
first baseman kind of pushed the kid off the bag.
So you were yelling at an eight year old?
Speaker 1 (40:23):
No, Well, I was yelling at the official and then
when the people said, we don't say another word, so
I yelled at my my first baseman, don't touch him.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
What you mean your first baseman?
Speaker 1 (40:31):
My first baseman pushed the kid off the bag when
he was twenty tagged me, tagged him a little hard,
so it kind of pushed him off the bag.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
So you were yelling at an eight year old.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
I just said, don't touch him boom out. Hard for
me to believe they would kick him out for that
they did. I mean that explanation to me doesn't pass
the smell.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Test because I said one more word of part said
don't say another word.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I said, don't touch him. Boom You're out.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
Sounds like the umpire is your daddy.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Who are actually friends now, are you? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (41:01):
It's time for our draft kicks picking. The night you
go to DraftKings, you can bet who's gonna hit a
home run. You can bet who is going to do
the most strikeouts, et cetera. You know again, we'll have
football starting Saturday. The Reds lost seven and nothing. The
good thing was they were down three to nothing early,
so I got to go to bed because I knew
there was.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
No way they were coming back for that.
Speaker 4 (41:22):
With Hunter Green pitching tonight, Clayton Kershaw goes against Nick Martinez,
I don't like that matchup for my team.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
I'm I'm gonna be honest with you.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
Maybe our worst pitcher against their best pitcher or one
of their best pitchers who you got.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Not just one of the best pictures, one of the
best pitchers in the history of the game. This is
a Dodger win. Sorry, Reds stink.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
I'm gonna go over. I was trying to pull up
the number. They're both pitchers are just gonna get absolutely
knocked out of the parks.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Really, give me the over. What is it?
Speaker 5 (41:54):
I'm gonna say over nine and a half? All right,
over nine and a half?
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Wow, overnight? You think they're gonn to get rocked?
Speaker 5 (42:01):
Both sides are getting rocked tonight? High scoring game?
Speaker 2 (42:03):
All right, interesting? What do you think?
Speaker 4 (42:04):
Shit, Reds lose. I'm gonna take the under. The Reds
right now are not hitting at all. Did you see, however,
I must say, even though we lost, the behind the
back double play by Hunter.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Green, I did see that. Yeah. That's one of the
best defensive plays you'll ever seen.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
Guy hits a ground ball, Hunter Green catches the ball
behind his back and then and then does a double play.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
That was one of the coolest things I've seen.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
And you know he did a blind swipe. Those guys,
they did a blind swipe behind their back.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
All I caught it. The ball's right here in my glove. Yeah,
double play. Thank you folks very much. Who came out
here today.
Speaker 4 (42:42):
We very much appreciate seeing you, especially those of you
that made a drive. We're here the rest of the week,
open tonight. Please come see us this week. It's glad
to be back in the swing of things here at
KS BAR.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
I'm on ESPN for the next three hours.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
Matter of fact, I'm just gonna slide over and change
the things to talk to that.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Thank you, folks very much. This has been Kentucky Sports
