surprised by a lot of people getting excited about the tailgating,
at least online. I'm starting to feel good about that
early pregame scene being week one, but as far as
any upgrades to the experience, I don't have a lot
of faith in you can't doing that.

You know, people have had their tenth spots reserved for
a couple of weeks out there. You drive over there
and they're there everywhere. So if all those people show up,
it could be a great environment. But are they doing
anything new that I don't know yet.

The weather is supposed to be like perfect perfect, right,
I mean the way like it's it's supposed to be
the best football weather you can imagine, like seventy nine.

I mean, it's gonna be about as good as you
can be sunny. I mean, if you're trying to think
of a time to go to a game. Tickets for
those who like, they're gonna be relatively cheap. As the

season talking about how it would have been nice to
introduce people to the uh TO stuff, and it would
have been nice to do this, and it would have

He's very old school on he thinks. I mean, he
just thinks this is well, first of all, I mean,

the worst game day experience in the SEC. Fandy does

we're probably of the game day experiences, we're probably fourteenth

of the sixteen. Now in basketball, that's not true in basketball.
I would say, where would you rank the Kentucky basketball
game day experience in the SEC?

I have a hard time rating it because every time
I go to an away game, it's the Kentucky game,
and they're just camping out in parking lots and it
looks like the greatest thing ever. But I know when
I'm not there with Kentucky, it is not.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, I mean I think I think that's a great point.
If you were to say average game day experience game
by game, Kentucky basketball is one. If you were to
say big game experience, though, you can make an argument
that Auburn or Arkansas, even Arkansas has a better big game,
But then we've seen Arkansas games where no one's there,

like no one. So I think if you said game
by game, Kentucky would still be number one.

There's no doubt when it was a big game Rupperena's rocking,
it is the best.

But when I see I think it's the opposite. I
think for an average game, Kentucky's the best. I think
in a big game. There's nothing no better than to
Auburn when they play Kentucky.

Oh yeah, I've been down there, but Kentucky when it
like when the biggest games I've ever seen are Kentucky.
The atmosphere at Roperena is just like the best ever.
You know, like the Florida game and the O three,
you know, games like that, the North Carolina game where
Anthony blocked the shot.

It's just amazing.

I mean, I want to say that's true, and I
think it's I don't get me wrong, I think it's great.
But like you know, we were at Kentucky Indiana in
twenty in twenty twelve. I've been to many Duke Carolina games.
I've been to Michigan State Michigan right. Part of it's

just the size of Upperina. It just can't get as big.
But I but on a game in game out basis,
Kentucky's number one.

And some of these the C schools you don't or
most of them, you don't get Kentucky on your campus.
But every other year, and if you don't have much
basketball history and that when the SEC is down, you know,
if you got Kentucky coming to your school, you circle
that the minute the schedule comes out and you're camping
out T shirts, I'm i gonna turn into cal here
and all that. How he skills it, But that is
the experience when Kentucky rolls into your town for a basket.

Remember when we played at West Virginia and we all
went to that game. We all like, my goodness, this
is awesome. It was West Virginia, but the atmosphere was
great that night because Kentucky was in town.

Maybe look at him. But we're not going to talk
ourselves into a tight end year. But this would be

a good year for how Kalzada can really be helpful
to get those guys going.

of interceptions that add incarnate word right like he's pretty acting,

At first I was a little I felt a little
disrespect that I was tied with a horse, and I
think Katie George was like a senior in college at
the time or something. Now I think the horse and

most embarrassing of the threesome that won that year.

I was surprised they haven't had anyone get fifty home

I don't know if they've done anything, but again, part
of what you're gonna have to do to kind of
get this new air going in theory is that you
would like to do all of that, Ryan, I hope.

So, I have very little expectations that that has happened,
but I'm hoping there's stuff new. I will say, I'm
surprised by a lot of people getting excited about the tailgating,
at least online. I'm starting to feel good about that
early pregame scene being week one, but as far as
any upgrades to the experience, I don't have a lot
of faith in you can't doing that.

You know, people have had their tenth spots reserved for
a couple of weeks out there. You drive over there
and they're there everywhere. So if all those people show up,
it could be a great environment. But are they doing
anything new that I don't know yet.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, I mean the game is at twelve forty five.
The weather is supposed to be like perfect perfect, right,
I mean the way like it's it's supposed to be
the best football weather you can imagine, like seventy nine.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Degrees for August in August.

I mean, it's gonna be about as good as you
can be sunny. I mean, if you're trying to think
of a time to go to a game. Tickets for
those who like, they're gonna be relatively cheap. As the
guy who called, or who called earlier, or maybe it
was you that was sitting here said Hope springs eternal
like everybody is.

far as like, are they gonna do anything.

Yeah, those big, huge bass drums. They rolled it out
and before the game they would have a former player
come out and bang it. And it lasted like maybe
one season, did not take off.

Why what were people supposed to do?

We weren't sure. They'd bring it out and then it'd
be like boom.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Everybody would clap, and then we'd be like, all right, disappeared.
Did you know there was a drum just only from
that video? Only from the video? Yeah, and I think they.

Were supposed to go go Big Blue and he's supposed
to hit it on beat.

So did they highlight the drum on the video game? Yeah? Yeah,
like that's what they show, but we don't really do that.

big thing, and I think we tried to borrow from

I got an email today from UK It says get
game Day Ready. I thought, well, this might be the
list of stuff they're going to do for game Day.
Now it's just an advertising about in the UK shoes,
visit the UK shop to buy shoes.

I mean again, we've spent a lot of the off
season talking about how it would have been nice to
introduce people to the uh TO stuff, and it would
have been nice to do this, and it would have
been nice to do that.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
But really that stuff just.

Didn't didn't happen much, and uh, I guess you can
just kind of assume it's not going to happen, right, Yeah,
we see.

I don't like to give them credit, but you can
turn on a night game at Nalen or just about
anywhere and it is just a different fan experience that
it's here Kentucky. That's just not a strength. Mitch Barnhardt
it's been a few years. But then you say fans
need air conditioning, place to sit in the water or
something stupid like that. It's just being at the Well
he's trying.

He's very old school on he thinks. I mean, he
just thinks this is well, first of all, I mean,
here's the thing about Mitch. He thinks all fans. I've
always known this about him, even when I talk to him.
He thinks all fans are like.

He believes this is what I like in a game,
this is what people like in a game. And I've
said this a lot, and it's no offense to him
because I think he's done a really good job on
a lot of stuff. You have to talk to people
that are not the people that are in your your zone,
and I just don't know how much of that of

Well, you said he only kind of answers his email,

If you brag about not being on social media, well,
I mean, you're not gonna know what a significant chunk
of the fan base wants. So we have Missouri has
the worst game day experience in the SEC. Fandy does
two pretty close. Yep, But we're probably after that, I mean,
we're probably of the game day experiences, we're probably fourteenth

of the sixteen. Now in basketball, that's not true in basketball.
I would say, where would you rank the Kentucky basketball
game day experience in the SEC?
Speaker 5 (07:28):
I have a hard time rating it because every time
I go to an away game, it's the Kentucky game,
and they're just camping out in parking lots and it
looks like the greatest thing ever. But I know when
I'm not there with Kentucky, it is not.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, I mean I think I think that's a great point.
If you were to say average game day experience game
by game, Kentucky basketball is one. If you were to
say big game experience, though, you can make an argument
that Auburn or Arkansas, even Arkansas has a better big game,
But then we've seen Arkansas games where no one's there,

like no one. So I think if you said game
by game, Kentucky would still be number one.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
There's no doubt when it was a big game Rupperena's rocking,
it is the best.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
But when I see I think it's the opposite. I
think for an average game, Kentucky's the best. I think
in a big game. There's nothing no better than to
Auburn when they play Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Oh yeah, I've been down there, but Kentucky when it
like when the biggest games I've ever seen are Kentucky.
The atmosphere at Roperena is just like the best ever.
You know, like the Florida game and the O three,
you know, games like that, the North Carolina game where
Anthony blocked the shot.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
It's just amazing.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
I mean, I want to say that's true, and I
think it's I don't get me wrong, I think it's great.
But like you know, we were at Kentucky Indiana in
twenty in twenty twelve. I've been to many Duke Carolina games.
I've been to Michigan State Michigan right. Part of it's
(08:54):
just the size of Upperina. It just can't get as big.
But I but on a game in game out basis,
Kentucky's number one.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
And some of these the C schools you don't or
most of them, you don't get Kentucky on your campus.
But every other year, and if you don't have much
basketball history and that when the SEC is down, you know,
if you got Kentucky coming to your school, you circle
that the minute the schedule comes out and you're camping
out T shirts, I'm i gonna turn into cal here
and all that. How he skills it, But that is
the experience when Kentucky rolls into your town for a basket.

Remember when we played at West Virginia and we all
went to that game. We all like, my goodness, this
is awesome. It was West Virginia, but the atmosphere was
great that night because Kentucky was in town.

not a very long list of SEC quarterbacks of beating

Yes, remember Calzada has played well against Alabama. We've had
people say We've had people say, hey, you know, can
we not just have him be like he was in
that game?

What do you think the best of Calzada will be
this year?

We run it, run it, run it, run it, and
then he throws a bomb off a play action for
a touchdown. Yeah, or he gets the tight ends going.
I'm not gonna say this is the year, but you
have Willie Rodriguez who looks like a freak, Josh Katis
who's been playing every snap since he was a freshman.
Maybe look at him. But we're not going to talk
ourselves into a tight end year. But this would be

a good year for how Kalzada can really be helpful
to get those guys going.

And I'm not mistaken. Calzada did not throw a lot
of interceptions that add incarnate word right like he's pretty acting,
makes good decisions.

He does that. Yeah, they can do some magic then
maybe once in a while hope.

So I mean, I I remember the game he played
so well and he beat Alabama.

He looked amazing.

It's been a while, but I also feel like he
gives us a shot, which is ultimately what our goal.

as Cannon. I'm I'm pretty ready to just go back
to hand it off if we have the offensive line
to do it and play defense and try to win

I just think that if Mark Stoops is your coach,
that's the way you gotta do it. We saw what
happened when he tried to go out and get the

we think about the story that the Alabama assistants had
to call Nick Saban daddy?

So Seth Wickersham is writing a book about quarterbacks, and
in it he's telling stories about quarterbacks.

And there's two parts of the story.

Part one is that the Alabama coach, Alabama's assistant. Let
me follow this. Alabama's assistant is recruiting arch Manning. Okay,
arch Manning, he's the assistant's on a zoom with Arch Manning,
and he says about the Texas coach, Steve Sarkisian, he's

my best friend. I love the guy. I hope that
he's able to stay sober, which is a really terrible
thing to say, if you think about it. I mean, like,
I love the guy, but I hope he's able to
stay sober.

But when they get off the call, one of the
other assistants looks at the guy who says that and goes, hey, dude,
that was a jerk thing to say, which good for
that assistant. Yes, right, and he said sorry, Daddy's on me.
And then Wickersham says the Alabama assistant coaches would refer

to Nick Saban as daddy, thoughts it's hard.

To imagine an operation so professional as that that Saban
the got guys called him daddy.

operation in all of college football. They're calling him daddy
behind the scenes.

His brothers created a big sports controversy here. Yeah, he
did get a loud applause, and also was that Katie
George from mobile interview.

doing the interviews for the US Open.

Down he asked the crowd if they approved. They cheered,
so we had a little bit of a moment there.

Katie George, by the way, is part of a nice
piece of KSR trivia, which is one year WDRB named
its Louisville Sports Figures of the Year and it was
three winners. The three winners were me, Katie George, an
American pharaoh, well, an American pharaoh of course, one of

the legendary horses. Katie George is now doing US Open
and et cetera. And then there's me and so I.
At first I was a little I felt a little
disrespect that I was tied with a horse, and I
think Katie George was like a senior in college at
the time or something. Now I think the horse and
her have definitely passed me. And now I am the
most embarrassing of the threesome that won that year.

She's on my television on the main Arthur Ash Court
at US Open, and you got Ryan calling you daddy.

Cal Raley, the catcher for Seattle, got his fiftieth home
run last night of the season. Here's what I found interesting,
and I know you baseball guys will care about this.
Most home runs ever by a catcher. Does that surprise you.
He's he is in his rookie his first full season playing.
Has the most home runs in a season ever by

I didn't realize that that was the record for most
home run by a catcher. But he's obviously had a
great season. When they call him Big Pumper, what's his
nicknamed Big Dumper? Big Dumper because he has a big butt.
That's why they call him that. They call him, they

I was surprised they haven't had anyone get fifty home
runs up there in Seattle since Griffy. I know, fifties
a lot, but since Griffy, I thought they'd have somebody,
some power hitter.

The chin and I was kind of surprised there's never
been a catcher to get fifty.

And then I was sitting there and thinking, well, who
would it have been?

Yeah, and I guess catcher like power hitters just aren't catchers.

I'm sure why because usually a catcher is a big guy.
You would think that would be your power hitter.

So I was surprised to hear that as well. I
didn't know that was the record. I guess the record
was Johnny Bench.

I shall say Johnny Bench or Mike Piazza. They don't
play as many games. They get a break, you know,
every once in a while. Maybe that's why that's true.

that's yeah, that's one. I would have thought. It feels
like he was a big home run hitter.

But I was surprised to see I had no idea

I guess as a dude who would hit a lot

Right, Trying to think other power hitting catchers, they're just
not on a lot of them out there.

so you would think there would be, uh, there would
be more than there are.

Yes, I think, uh, one thing that I see a
lot online. Is a lot of Kentucky fans think that
we're just guaranteed to get to only two wins. This
wins very possible your three uh small opponents. Then if
we're gonna be Kentucky ball, we need to get back
to beating Vandy. That's four. So then you just need
two more between. I'm not gonna say we're gonna beat

Texas or Tennessee, so I'm not even adding them. So
then you get your other two wins between either Auburn, Florida,
South Carolina or I can't remember that if the line
plays the way that they're supposed to do.

But you just mentioned eight teams. I mean all those
teams you mentioned except Auburn, our top twenty five teams.

I mean to say, likedy Okay, so yes, not bandy.

But we're gonna be underdogs, likely in eight of our
twelve games, and if we're an underdog against Vandy, which
is plausible, we'll be an underdog in nine of our
twelve games.

Now that doesn't mean.

will agree with him that of the ones we have
the best shot at winning Ole Miss at home is
one of the better opportunities. I don't think we'll beat

is that, you know, he's very open. This is my
year to make the NFL. I worry he might try
to do too much in circumstances. I mean that's just

were gonna, you know, hurt Kentucky. I think turnovers and
try to do too much. No one, no quarterback says yeah,
I want to be a game man. But he just
needs to make the short media throws some leve struggle

with a little bit, and then when it opens up
to throw the deep one, you know, try to put
it on spot.

I did like what Schoop said on his Coachy show
last night about Calzata. You know, all the talk about
cutter had. It was not a reflection on Kalsati. He said,
Kalsata has been great. He said, Cutter just kind of
exceeded our expectations kind of he elevated himself by his play.
But Kalzata has done nothing wrong. It's just was more
of a praise to Cutter, not a knock on Calsata.

miss they piled it on.

I mean, I'm I'm gonna try to be realistic about
our win total. But in terms of being excited about

is you think that's fair for UH Ohio.

I think each school has the right to approve credentials

I think they did damage control later.

That's why I think so much outrage in society is fake,
because the reason they're outraged is for content and clicks.

It's not because they're actually outraged, you know, It's because
it allows them to feed the machine. Same thing with this.
If you really want Portnoy to seem irrelevant, don't worry
about it. You have by being outraged, made him much
more relevant than he would have been if you had
just ignored it to begin with.

And if you're port content guy, we know if you're
gonna play this well bigger and you know, give you
more confidence. You've got the school.

I mean, the best thing that happened to Drew's post
game basketball recap show was UK kicking him out because
we used it as a way to promote the show

If UK did not want Drew to get attention for

have done, which was by saying he couldn't go there.

Had you just been standing there on the court, you'd
have had to build it a different way. But by

break it up. Kansas State fans are trying to basically

make it to where their own player's brother and and
dad will not fight each other.

They're rolling in the rain. It's a disaster.

After it's over, the father that the father releases a
statement saying, look, we just you know, this is what
happens in families.

people that are Kansas State fans this is their quarterback,

They probably knew it was his dad, right, I'm sure
they did.

So imagine you know, I'm trying to think of what
the situation would be like. It would be as like,
can you imagine if you walked outside and like Will
Levis's dad was fighting his brother outside of Kroger Field
and you were just there and can't.

Even imagine that? But Kansas State just got that.

It's awful, the huge black eye on your program. You're
very angry about it.

It really kind of upset me. I mean I felt
bad for the quarterback. I mean, he didn't ask for
any of this. He didn't sign up for this. His
dad and his little brother getting to a fight outside
the game in Dublin, Ireland as a trip of a lifetime.

So what's the closest you've come to being if not
in a fistfight, something embarrassing with your with your with
your sons in public.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Well, I got kicked out of that coach Pitch's base
ball game one time when he was eight years old.

That was not maybe the my shin, but.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
You weren't fighting with your kid. That was fighting on
behalf of your kid.

I was just yelling at the umpire and he said,
don't say another word, and I said, you know, don't
touch him.

That's it, you're out. Yeah, who was touching him? The
first baseman kind of pushed the kid off the bag.
So you were yelling at an eight year old?

No, Well, I was yelling at the official and then
when the people said, we don't say another word, so
I yelled at my my first baseman, don't touch him.

What you mean your first baseman?

My first baseman pushed the kid off the bag when
he was twenty tagged me, tagged him a little hard,
so it kind of pushed him off the bag.

I just said, don't touch him boom out. Hard for
me to believe they would kick him out for that
they did. I mean that explanation to me doesn't pass
the smell.
