Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Welcome back our number two Kentucky Sports Radio here live.
We are now in downtown Lexington, right on Main Street,
right in front of the Starbucks in city Center, the
new one they just reopened it back. See, this is
what's exciting Ryan. Let me you never know what's gonna
happen when you're in downtown. Darius Miller just drove by,
Just drove by, just drove by. If you drive by

(01:28):
and you're listening, give us a hank or wave, just
some sort of acknowledgement that we're down here. Ryan is
already hot. You can tell he does not want to
be out here in this sun.

Speaker 6 (01:37):
We also get the slanti for the people who are
walking by, have no idea what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
While we're out here.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Yes, well that's all right. Who cares like we can
talk to them as they walk by right here across
from bourbon On Ride. This is the kind of excitement
you need when you're getting ready to have your first
college football game.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:54):
That's a famous Lexington monument to that Sculler's clock. It's
been here since like the nineteen thirties or something, so
people know we were.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
What what is it? I mean, I've seen it over
the years.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
But what is the free standing clock. It's been there
I guess for like eighty years or something like that.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
What makes it famous?

Speaker 2 (02:08):
It's been there for like eighty years.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Okay, But but you said the scholar's clock.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
What's the scholar It's just like a landmark like that.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
There used to be like I think the Phoenix Hotel
used to be right across the street. This was like
the hubbub of downtown Lexington.

Speaker 7 (02:21):
This right here was yeah, okay, this building right here,
I ducked under a pool table because someone fired a
gun and.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Said, oo, was that what used to be Trusty? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (02:29):
Other monuments?

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Okay, that okay. So since we're telling stories about this building,
the history of it, this is where drew through the
Oklahoma City thunder party in that building. And it was
upstairs up there where I got to watch DeMarcus Cousins
and John wall in action. Uh In, James Harden and

(02:52):
all those folks. Dan, yeah, Kevin Durant, like right up
there in the top floor of that building.

Speaker 7 (02:56):
Not the same night as the gunshots, No, not the
same night.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
I tell a little more history.

Speaker 6 (03:01):
That building right there, when it was built was the
tallest building I think west of the Alleghany Mountains.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
This was yep, and it was first built.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Well, now it's not as tall as the biggest building
in America that's blue one over. Huh. That's right, Pelik Ryan.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
Could do one of those double decker tour buses downtown.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
You can do it.

Speaker 6 (03:17):
I come on, well, I got a retirement job e
the greeter at Walmart or the tool tour bus guy.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Yes. And then of course they're building this new park
right here. What is it Phoenix Park. They've been building
that since nineteen seventy one. A lot of people don't
know that.

Speaker 6 (03:32):
I said, that's where the famous Phoenix Hotel used to be.
Thus what it's called Phoenix Park. Phoenix Park, not Phoenix, Phoenix, Phoenix.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
That's right. Let's do a couple of news items non Kentucky.
Rick Barnes Drew given a lifetime deal.

Speaker 7 (03:48):
I love that because at Indie last year in the
Elite eight, there's a lot of buzz that he could
retire when they lost. And now he went from I'm
going to retire in April or March potentially to I
now have a lifetime, lifetime contract. But you know, I
wish him the best with that it didn't exactly work
out here with our lifetime contract. Surprise.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Someone tried to how long do we I mean, how
long is it? Hey? What's going on? Not you, sir?
The car?

Speaker 8 (04:12):
Uh two year contract?

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Then well that's what I'm gonna say. How long could
it possibly be? I mean, but I'm not I'm not
saying he's gonna die. I'm saying how long is that
person going to? I mean, how long is he gonna
be coaching?

Speaker 6 (04:26):
Well, apparently they finalized they deal and he's on the
golf course yesterday, but he quit after the fourteenth hole
because he never plays the final four.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
We should have left him upstairs.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
I love a good Ryan actually wrote on our board
at nine to fifty this morning. After we were talking
to him for the show, I said, I think this
is gonna be a good Ryan.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
What you feel? It just kind of had that vibe.
It is odd to give a lifetime contract to someone
who's never been to a final four, but nevertheless he
he gets it, so he'll be at Tennessee. You know,
he he owned cow for a while. But uh, I thought, pope,
you know we I'm not worried about Rick Barnes. We've
been very good at going to Knoxville. Since he's been there,
he's gotten something rup that we didn't want to lose,

(05:06):
and the record's pretty even since he's been there.

Speaker 6 (05:08):
I thought there was some scuttle butt last year we
played it the he was gonna maybe retire last year
after the season.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah, in March, No, I heard from a Tennessee a
person who gives a lot of money in Tennessee that
they were already preparing trying to find their next coach
and it ends up not not being the case.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
Well, I don't know if I mentioned this, but in
Annapolis last year at the Elite Eight, I'm at the
press conference and that's what all the buzz was. Yeah,
I was talking about that.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
So who knows Kyle Schwarber four home runs was last
night he becomes I don't know what the twenty first,
twenty first player to every do the first player to
do it. Scooter Gannett did it many years ago for
the Reds. But Kyle Schwarber, you know, some talk he
could be a Red at the end of the year
from Cincinnati has talked about it. I think Kyle Schwarbur

(05:51):
that's kind of a cool thing. You like when history
happens like that.

Speaker 6 (05:54):
I of you saw he came up in the ninth
in chance hit five home runs in the game, and
they had a shortstop pitching, and the pitch was like
fifty eight miles an hour and he popped it straight up.
He had a chance to hit five in a row
with fifty eight miles an half to fifty.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Eight mile an hour, little little league.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Pick has Has anyone ever done that?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I don't think always ever hit five?

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Yeah, I don't think I don't think so either. I
don't think they have. But still very cool last night.
And then probably the biggest story Cowboys. You know you
have a connection there. Micah Parsons traded to the Packers. Shannon,
are you excited? I am.

Speaker 8 (06:27):
I think we're going to the super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
That's what everybody tells me now that we've got them,
So let's go.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
Remember Darren Canard was traded to Green Bay and everybody
said his Super Bowl streak was gonna end winning rings.
Now he might win. You're a Cowboys guy, though, Drew sad.

Speaker 7 (06:41):
The worst part was telling my wife she really loves
the Cowboys and thought Jerry was gonna re sign him
in time for the first game and to go to
the Packers staying in the NFC. Now they're gonna be
the main event. We certainly hated it. I couldn't believe
Jerry let him go.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
It felt like to me the Bears were gonna finally
be able to consistently play with and beat the pack
and now they end up getting the best linebacker in
the league. Jerry Jones needs to quit right Well.

Speaker 7 (07:06):
The thing is, if they had a decent GM, they
could turn this into a great rebuild once you get
past this little pr hit. But they don't have one
of those, because they did get some first round picks
that they can got two first round the next twoso
want Jerry in charge of the rebuild right now?

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Yeah, well it's hard. They've now traded Luca and Michael
Parsons's right, in the last six months in that city.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
City of Dallas, had these two young superstars, saw them
bothally with months apart.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Crazy, That's exactly right. If I'm nine two, eight oh
twenty two to eighty seven here in downtown Lexington, it's
been nice seeing the people wave. It's weird when the
people walk by the street because they kind of look
at us like, uh, what do they do? Why are
you all doing? Hey? Hello there, right there, I see you, sir.
Who's up next year? Tyler?

Speaker 9 (07:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Go cats, Tyler, go ahead, Tyler.

Speaker 10 (07:53):
Hey, it's kind of skull my thunder. I called in
to talk about Rick Barnes and that situation. I will
one of my favorite parts of the show is when
Ryan tells a joke and before anyone else starts talking,
he's the first one to start snickering.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Oh, he's always the first one to the good thing
about your jokes is you find them funnier than anyone.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
I was dying laughing in so I couldn't wait to
tell that one.

Speaker 7 (08:17):
Right is Ryan's bestival?

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Did you did you come up with it last night?

Speaker 6 (08:20):
Well, I've used a joke before, but I haven't used
it in the Rick Barnes conversation.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Saul So's it's multi fast. Yeah, you can bring it
up a lot.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
I can bring any time we talk about Tennessee anytime.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Any times it works. Yeah, I'm with you, Ryan, jokes
are the worst but also the best.

Speaker 10 (08:36):
I want addendum and this one kind of question with
the Rick Barnes is like when this happen with cal
like it was because UCLA was coming after him? Would
anyone like legitimately, was anyone coming after Rick Barnes? Like,
why did Tennessee do this?

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Uh, that's a good question. I would think no one
was coming after Rick Barnes. You know, they didn't really
add a lot of money. I think they gave him
a little bit more money. It's probably just a symbolic gesture,
don't you think.

Speaker 7 (08:59):
Yeah, there's probably something in there to get him to
hang around the Food City Center for the rest of
his life and.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Wave and I keep forgetting that name, the Food City.
They made fun of Kroger Field.

Speaker 7 (09:08):
I'm not gonna let I'm never gonna call it anything
but Food City.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Yeah, I would like to. I would like to make
fun of the Food City Center and then we have
Kroger Field. What they said, appreciate the call. I will
say one thing about Micah. We had just taped episode
one of the NFL podcast. I literally had just finished it.
We went team by team, talked about every single team

(09:34):
in the NFL, including the Cowboys and the Packers, and
then that news breaks and so now we have to
do at least those parts.

Speaker 8 (09:42):
Oh wow.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Literally we'd take the whole thing. And it came out moments.

Speaker 7 (09:46):
A half out of the building when Billy senters.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
So that was very, very frustrating Ride.

Speaker 6 (09:51):
I will say, yeah, all that prep time you guys
put into this great show, this opening show, they got
to redo parts of it.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
I'm sorry, man, that's all right. We will We'll it over.
And who's next, Trevor, Trevor, how are you, Trevor? Look
at this? iHeart crowd out here, Trevor. Go ahead.

Speaker 11 (10:06):
I'm doing well, Matty, unless I'm badly mistaken. I think
last season Kentucky football ranks amongst the bottom of the
polls when it came to on up poles, but when
it came to offensive like plays per game. With this
new offense, do you think we're going to get more
plays off and with this you know run style that
we're gonna do with the clock continuing to run a

(10:28):
whole lot, do you think we're gonna have more plays,
more opportunities out there?

Speaker 4 (10:31):
That's a good question. Do you think you know when
Bush Hampden was that boys, He's state, the tempo was
pretty fast, he didn't throw a ton. They were still
more of a they were. People thought of him as
Will Levis in terms of or you know as William Cohen,
but they ran more, but they did go tempo. Do
you think we go tempo at all? Mark stoops and tempo.

(10:52):
I just don't know. Hates tempo. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
I mean if they get downhill and they're really bruising somebody,
I mean they might try to speed it up a
little bit. But I think we're in for the old
schools it down. I want my defense to rest as
long as they can.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
That kind of that kind of all so, the the
the thought of potentially uh lowest place per game that
could certainly happen again, you think.

Speaker 7 (11:15):
Might be in the conversation. One thing I like this
year though, they'll run Calsada a lot more than we've
seen with past running quarterbacks because they trust their second string.
We've had quarterbacks like Levice who had legs, but in
a second year, it's like, all right, we're not running
you because if you get hurt, this season's over. This year,
I think they're gonna use Calsada because if he gets
dinged up, gets a stinger or whatever, color get in here.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Uh. You know, it's nice seeing all these horns makes
you like feel like people are listening.

Speaker 6 (11:42):
Yeah, you know, we usually we're in a studio by ourselves.
If we were upstairs, come down here and you realize, man,
there's people actually listening to this.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
I thought there would be more people like walking up
and down the street, though, isn't it? Am I wrong?
I feel like you, hey, I feel like we you
normally have. There's this more foot traffic through here. What's happening?

Speaker 7 (11:57):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Maybe everybody's left for Labor day weekend.

Speaker 7 (12:00):
Uh maybe getting lunch right now?

Speaker 6 (12:02):
Yeah, well maybe I might have the lunch crowd probably
gonna start pouring out.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
I was just gonna sit here and talk to people,
and everyone has disappeared, but hopefully, Uh, well, we still
got forty five minutes. Well A five nine two eight
h h twenty two eighty seven, couple open lines, give
us a shout. You mentioned Nick kaal Zaka. What do
we think Zion? What do we think is gonna happen
with him tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Well?

Speaker 6 (12:23):
I loved his quote that he had this week where
he said, like, you know, I have to be Clark
Camp and every now and then I need to know
what I need to be Superman. So I think, you know,
he's got that experience he's played in the sec he
knows what he when he needs to pull the trigger
and went not to pull the trigger. He talked like
he really comfortable now Bush hand him system already. So
if he's good, this football team could be really good
this year.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
I think so too.

Speaker 7 (12:42):
He needs to do a little bit of a game
managing with the way they're gonna play, you know, short passes,
hopefully use the tight ends. As I just said, he's
gonna run a little bit. I don't know if we're
gonna have this big world beater year where we're like, wow, Kalsada.
You know, we're gonna remember this forever. But I think
he's good enough for if their offensive line's good and
then it just a disaster like a year ago, that
that offense is going to surprise people.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Let's take our last three quarterbacks, Levis, Leary, vander Griff
when the Calzada era ends, where's he gonna be on
that ranking we're doing.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Levis first year were really good or second year when
he was hurt.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
You can separate him. Let's take our last four quarterbacks.
Levis one, Levis two, Leary h vander Griff. What's what's
how are you gonna do? Hey?

Speaker 7 (13:26):
Hey, Levis is a clear one.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Yeah, less healthy Levis is number one.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Levis one is one.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
I almost put Hurt Levis.

Speaker 6 (13:33):
Number two, and that'll put Calzata and then Leary and
then vander Griff.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
So I think it's clear vander Griff's last.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Yeah, it's clear.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Levis one is first. I think Levis two is probably second.
So the question is do you think he'll be better
or worse than Devin Leary? Isn't that ultimately the question?

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Yeah? Because because Devin.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Leary, why he's not great in hindsight? What as bad
as we thought?

Speaker 7 (13:54):
I mean he made the Ravens last year. I mean
he's still in their practice squad. I mean, the NFL
has a place for him.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
So you think better than Devin Lee. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (14:01):
For some reason, the only memory I have of Devon
Larry right now is all of his passes getting batted down.
I'm trying to think of a good Devon Leary memory,
and it's not coming to me.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Man.

Speaker 7 (14:10):
I know the wins and the losses, but I think
is a good Devon Leary memory?

Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yeah, I mean it feels like we won some games.
We try to think of a specific momentary, remember one either,
But it feels like we should have one, right.

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Well, he threw the touchdown pass the day and against
Old Miss that got nullified when Barry Al was called
off side. That was Devon Larry.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
That would have been a good one.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
We need Cala to be a little better.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Have we played Old Miss like four straight years?

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Played him down there two years in.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
A row and then so but we played them Levis's year.
That was the year they reached the wrong about that.
It wasn't Leary, it was Levis's second year. Was when
they knocked that day they knocked it down because because
Dane was a freshman, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I think that is right.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
How do I know your son's games better than you do?
But I am right about that. That was sweet. We've
played Old Miss three of the last four years.

Speaker 7 (15:06):
Yeah, after going like I think we went thirteen years
going to Oxford, get so us a lot.

Speaker 4 (15:11):

has a minivan. It's everything is exciting right here. This
is Kentucky Sports Radio. Work a bag. It is Kentucky
Sports Radio here live out on the street in front

(15:54):
of our radio studio on Main Street. Thanks to everybody
driving by honking makes us feel uh special and love
that guy just asked, do you have anybody famous coming
out here? I was very offended. That wasn't very nice.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
You have Brandon our sales guy here.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
I bet? I mean, like, we're right here, Like why
you got to say that to us? We could be moderately.

Speaker 7 (16:14):
Yeah, let us know if you found somebody.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
And then I said, like who, and he goes Mark Stoops.
He said, Mark Stoops was on Bobby Bones this morning.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:21):
I haven't heard anything of it, just saw it on
social media. This is kind of a surprise. Yes, you
go from pretty quiet offseason to Bobby Bones do what?

Speaker 4 (16:30):
No, it's television. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven, has he gonna look and say? Is
this radio? Seven seven to seven seven four uh five
two five four. One person writes, Matt uh chip train him?
Would you bet on him scoring a touchdown? And against
Toledo it's plus one seventy five. I can't bet on

(16:50):
the other team, but I think that's a pretty good
bet if you were going to do it.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:53):
I spot on all their their press conferences and what
their reporters are writing and all that, And he had
a great uh fall camp and they're excited about him.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
What should note? UK Nebraska playing volleyball on Sunday on ABC,
a network television regular season volleyball game, only the fourth
time that's happened in the history of women's volleyball. They
will be playing and it's UK and Nebraska, a great
opportunity for the UK program. Who, as we've talked about,
did you really throw the l at me? Who do

(17:24):
you think you are? And you're wearing a blue hat too.
I'm gonna tell your employer. Nevertheless, UK Nebraska his great
chance for Craig Skinner and his.

Speaker 6 (17:34):
Huge chance for this great exposure Sunday afternoon at noon
to play in Nebraska, the number one team in the country,
and you know, Kentucky coming off a national championship a
couple years ago. This is a huge opportunity to kind
of get some exposure for Craig Skinner's program.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
And they are one, I mean Nebraska's number one or
number one or two. This year we're in the top five. Also,
should be a great game. They play somebody else Saturday, Lipscomb,
which should be a victory. But then they'll get the
opportunity on Sunday. Yeah, I mean Sundays are about to
be the nfls. But right now there's one left that
somebody can have and it's volleyball. Volleyball after all.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
Day football on Saturday. So hopefully they have a big win.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
The people who who know volleyball tell me we have
a Final four contender and that none of the teams
are quite as powerful as they usually are, and that
Kentucky's got a shot to, if not be a favorite,
to win the second one, win a second title, to
do very well.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
You know, we don't talk about the volleyball program near
as much we probably should, but they have just been dominant.
They won the SEC. What is it, Drew, like nine
or ten years in a row of win the SEC.
They've just get a powerhouse program over there.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
We don't mention as much as we should.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
I want to ask you a question, Drew. Are you
one of these people who looks at real estate online
all the time?

Speaker 9 (18:44):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (18:44):
Yeah, here's the reason I'm asking. I have female friends
in my life, all of whom send me houses when
they look at it. And what I find fascinating is
every time a new house comes on the market, they
all send it within like twenty minutes. People get alerts.
How do they find out about.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
You're probably get alerts. I'm not that committed, but I
have the Zilo app.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Yes I keep up with things.

Speaker 7 (19:07):
I'm not getting immediate updates, but yeah, I think part
of it is also, if you're not shopping, you just
look around, like see the big houses in election or whatever.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
I snoop around the listings and that's obviously your job.
Do you do You do you feel that as well?

Speaker 6 (19:23):
Yeah, you're you can set up those alerts on Zillow
or any of these third party sites.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
What are the rules about like going if I want
to look like let's say that I see a house
and it's for sale. Yeah, okay, you can't just walk
up and knock on the door, right, but can you?
Are you allowed to creep around? No?

Speaker 6 (19:42):
No, it is still private property. You have to set
up an appointment with your realtor some A lot of
houses have a private code. You can't even get to
the get the key to unlock the doors. You have
a private code process.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
You know. Do you know how I can get in
touch with my realtor?

Speaker 6 (19:57):
You just kind of, you know, just reach out and
touch him sometimes games It's Friday, man, it's Friday, and
it's payday. God bless payday. Oh my gosh. Yes, I
was down like a dollar forty three in my checking
account last night. Oh really, I had a dollar forty

(20:20):
three in my checking account last night. I have a
dollar forty I did a dollar forty three cents on
the cash out.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
Yes. Speaking of a house that maybe should go on
the market, I think I know one out in Master
Sensation that might be a little big for the current
occupier of it.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
I think maybe one keep this movie with me. We
could be rubies.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
You you got to stop with the movie. How's it going?
I keep getting asked.

Speaker 6 (20:45):
Uh, well, you know my football watching buddy is not
there at the house anymore, so, syan, I would have
been watching Dane last night. So yoga girl came over
and watched the entire game with me last night. She
didn't leave to like one o'clock in the morning, and
she did go to her own home.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Do you need anybody to like swim with you?

Speaker 2 (21:01):
I'll check on this.

Speaker 7 (21:02):
Yes, help with the pool.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Yes, holiness better. No.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
I hate it.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
I mean I really hate it. It's not fun. I
need some companionship. So once't you come and be my
roommate for a while?

Speaker 4 (21:13):
All right? We need you to work through this, like
I mean that we need you to work through it.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
We can't have I'm not there yet. I'm definitely not
there yet.

Speaker 7 (21:20):
What if we all moved in with Ryan for seventy
two hours and did a reality show that's I mean,
the Barstool Beach House is killing it right now, the
woman masters stations.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
I'm out on that. One person rights, Matt. Do we
score a defensive touchdown in the first three home games,
I'll say, yes, if we get if that includes the
Eastern Michigan game.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
Yeah, I'll say why not. And I'll even say that
it's Ty Bryant doing it.

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Yes, you know our secondary. Those four guys are all guys. Yeah,
that's where are Usually we're worried about our secondary. This year,
that's our strength, I think is our secondary.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
One person rights, Matt. You guys have been so negative
about the football season for months. Yet now you question
why the fan negative? How can you do that, Kentucky.
Last year the problems were the players. If you all
had been positive all off season, that eleven percent number
would have been much higher. It is your's fault. This
fan base feels like it does. Wow, that's I I

(22:17):
feel like I'm having the basketball situation two years ago
in reverse. Those are the same comments people said two
years ago. At some point, we are not the arbiters
of fan We reflect, We do not we do not
lead in terms of fan sentiment. And I don't know

(22:38):
what people want. I mean again, I just used today
as an example. I mean, we we are trying. We
want people to call in about football, But every comment
I get is either people going yeah, I don't know
about the game tomorrow or about the couch car like,
that's just how it is now. That may change tomorrow,
but that is, you know, the University of Kentucky's fault.

(22:58):
It just is.

Speaker 7 (23:00):
People don't need us to be disappointed in Kentucky football.
If you've been following it, you're disappointed.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
I want Kentucky to be good. I want Kentucky to
be exciting. I want Kentucky to be fun. That nothing
would be better with us reopening our restaurant. But they're
gonna have to go out tomorrow and play well for
people to do that. If they do that, this fan
base will be back on it. But if they don't,
you think that eleven percent numbers negative, wait till the

(23:25):
next week. We'll be right back.

Speaker 8 (23:27):
TJ. Smith personal injury attorney, call TJ.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Here's Matt Jones, welcome back, take you sports radio here
in downtown Lexington, waving at all the folks that are
driving by and giving us hanks a five nine, two
eighth twenty two point eighty seven. Uh, folks are riding in.
Lots of message on the text machine, not many about football.
One person writes, Matt, do you think that Ryan is

(23:58):
the has the house to also have a dollar thirty
seven in his checking account? That's gotta be I would say, yes,
is the answer to that question.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
That's true. That's why I needed payday to come today.

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Well it came, though I still got bills I gotta pay,
you know, insurance, insurance.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
Well that that's exactly.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Oh well I didn't. I want to smitch something I forget.

Speaker 6 (24:20):
Okay, last night, Thursday's Child gave our own Freddie Maggert
a really nice award last night.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Yeah, so talk about that for a minute, because people
ask me a lot how Freddy's doing. Why don't you
speak to that? I get asked that quite a bit.

Speaker 6 (24:32):
Freddy's doing really well. You know he he'll be honest
until he's got good weeks. He's got bad weeks. He
has his trouble walking right now, but he's got to
visit with him. Last night great to catch up. And
Thursday Child gave him like an achievement lifetime achievement honor
last night because you know, he's adopted parent, he served
his country, he's on the board a Thursday's Child, So
it was really kind of nice. I'm really glad I was.

(24:53):
I didn't know it was coming, so I'm glad I
was there to kind of witness it. And you got
to talk to to talk to me for a long time.
He wanted to tell you, guys, Hello, He's gonna miss
doing the pregame show and he misses that. It's kind of
one thing he really enjoyed doing with all of us.
He's gonna miss that.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
I'm gonna miss that with him as well. Yeah, speaking
of the pregame show, it is tomorrow eight thirty to
ten thirty. The restaurant opens at nine o'clock, so we
are serving breakfast. You never had our breakfast. It's always
very very good. If you want to get there, people ask, well,
what time should you get there? I would say get
there a little bit before so you can ensure that
you get a table. But we'll often, you know, people

(25:26):
come and go. You'll be able even if you get
there a little later. And then we do have the
bus going from the ks Bar lot to the game.
You do, however, have to patronize one of the businesses
if you use the lot. They do enforce that, but
it's only a dollar Drew to take a bus from
the lot to the game, and honestly, with traffic, that's
not a bad way to go.

Speaker 7 (25:46):
Heck out, Sometimes that bus can be a little fun
little pregame. I've gotten some cats chance going on that before.
Obviously you're just full of other Kentucky fans heading that way,
so that can be its own little excitement on the
way over.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Big games tomorrow night. First of all, you meant we
men into Ohio State Texas? You like Ohio State, Drew,
who you got?

Speaker 7 (26:04):
Well, now I'm watching the big two lane game, to
be honest with my minus four I just loaded up
on that during the break.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
With So what about Ohio State, Texas?

Speaker 7 (26:13):
Oh and Ohio State? Tap?

Speaker 4 (26:14):
What'd you go with? Ryan?

Speaker 2 (26:15):
You said tex Ohio State at home?

Speaker 7 (26:18):
I was actually gonna take Texas in the upset there.
I don't want to go against our parlay, so I'll
go with Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
I'm it's gonna be interesting. I mean, I can't remember
a more hyped opening week game ever. I mean in
terms of people being excited about it. You get arch
Manning on the road, Lee Corso's last game. The game
starts at noon, so it starts right after all these
games go. I'm gonna take Ohio State for the reason
you did. I just feel like they're not gonna lose

(26:44):
that game at home. But they do have a brand
new quarterback who I don't think it started one game
for them, and that's his first one. Shannon, who you got?

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Give me Texas. I was gonna pick Texas until Ryan
picked Ohio State, So.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Well, you can take them. That's okay. Alabama goes on
the road to Florida State, playing a row game, true
road game in Tallahassee. Alabama is still a nine point favorite.
Who you got?

Speaker 6 (27:04):
Yeah, I'm still taking Alabama right there. I mean, Florida
State has kind of been kind of a mess last
year or so, so I'm going Alabama.

Speaker 7 (27:10):
Florida State will be improved, but Alabama's winning this one.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
Shannon.

Speaker 5 (27:13):
Yeah, I believed in Florida State too much last year,
lost a lot of money on draft kings.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
They just you did that all the time. You were
big on Florida State.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
Was and I screwed up.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
So I'm going to Alabama just out of spie.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
If for no other reason, I'm gonna take Alabama. But
remember they've been the last couple of years had a
game like this earlier they almost lost to South Florida
a couple of years ago. You remember who won last night.
So but I will take Alabama, LSU and Clemson play
at nine game. That's a big game. It's if it
wasn't for Ohio State Texas. That's the biggest game. LS
that's the mayor. Did you just see that Lynda Gordon?

(27:45):
That was Linda Gordon right there?

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Come on back.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
She literally just drove by just she's does she strives
a mini van. I ain't go cats. I think that
was her.

Speaker 8 (27:54):
She didn't honk, which she's not even listening, which was.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Yeah, Clinda, you're just on the show, not even honking.
All right, L s U, L s U.

Speaker 6 (28:02):
You know two teams that will probably have playoff aspirations,
but a loss kind of put to one of them
behind the eight ball right to start the season. So
it's a huge game for LSU if they can get
this one on the road. But I'm going Clemson, you're picking.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Up, you're picking against our parlay and climps. Never believe
in Dabo, but go ahead.

Speaker 7 (28:19):
I really don't like l s U and this Kelly
era even that documentary, maybe hate them more, but I
agree taking them here at Clemson. I don't like either
of these, and I think LSU is the better team.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Jane, and I assume you have L s U.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
Yeah, yeah, give the l s U.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
Sunday Night. Sunday Night football. Notre Dame in Miami, Catholics
versus Convicts. Uh, they're reuniting, Drew. I gotta go with
the Irish here.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
Notre Dame man after they lost to Milan Illinois last year,
they were awesome, so I'm going to think they can
carry that into this year.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
I'm taking Miami. They're at home. I think Notre Dame
is gonna be cold and not not used to the
heat there. That didn't make a sense, But I'm taking
Miami at home to find Carson Beck earns his in
I own money and gets this win in the first game.
Who you got?

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Give me with the upset, I like him over Notre Dame.
They need to find an conference to play in.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
And then on Monday, North Carolina Bill Belichick opens his
post Jordan Hudson career against TCU at home. Who you got?

Speaker 6 (29:19):
I'm gonna go to North Carolina. I think they probably
have a great year just because of all the circuits
that's been going on over there.

Speaker 7 (29:25):
The North Carolina experiment is gonna be a disaster.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
And it's a disaster.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
Oh, she's gonna be a distraction. It's gonna just implode.
And it all starts on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
Excuse me, Shannon.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Yeah, I kind of hope TC wins, just for all
the fans to go off on Bill Belichick and Jordan.

Speaker 12 (29:42):
See, I want it to work. Why are you all
hate on love? I wanted to work. I want it
to work. I mean, why hate on love? I mean,
this is a he finds love in his life. Wouldn't
you want him to have success?

Speaker 4 (29:55):
And don't we need more Jordan Hudson with her gold
digger clothing and accessories.

Speaker 7 (30:01):
I think you're reading my prediction wrong. I want them
to stay together. I want the football team to suck.
I want their love to be so big that he
can't coach, falling, the football can't stand. I want us
to learn that he had a weak spot and this
great coach is actually gonna be Terri saying, and I'm pulling.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
For North Carolina. Those two kids going up against society,
those two kids, that's what we need in this world.
Two kids in love taking on the world. Go North Carolina.

Speaker 7 (30:27):
How about the add though to my prediction that they
have a babydo by the end of the season. My goodness,
Oh you think there's gonna be a little bit had
a prop bet to my underprediction on their wins. So
your par on infants under on wins. It's my official
North Carolina prediction over.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
On infants under on wins. Yes, wow, strong prediction there.
Didn't see that would come. And finally, Auburn and Baylor
they played tonight. Can Auburn the Hugh Freeze get that
you talk about a seat that will be hot? If
you Freeze loses tonight against Baylor, which they could, it
will be very hot. Who you got?

Speaker 6 (31:04):
I'm taking Baylor. I have no confidence in Auburn whatsoever
this year.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
I'm gonna pick the SEC. I got all me too.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
It's a close spread though it's like one and a
half two points. It's a tight win. So but I'm
going to Shannon.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
Went in out go with the SEC. I'm taking Auburn
as well.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
I am too. But just you, if we want people
to not say that we're the most pessimistic, have a
have Auburn win. Yeah, because if if Auburn loses this game,
their fan base will lose their collective minds and it
may happen tonight. I like when they guy just looks
stared at me, stared into my soul the whole way
he was walking. He gave me a little head and nod.

(31:38):
He just looked right in my eyes.

Speaker 12 (31:39):
Who's next, Old Trev?

Speaker 4 (31:43):
How are you hey?

Speaker 10 (31:45):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 9 (31:46):
First time?

Speaker 13 (31:46):
Long time?

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Who are hey? Man?

Speaker 3 (31:50):
So?

Speaker 9 (31:51):
I know that you you're rooting for the Cats and
you want to see him win six games, but you
are the only one to pick five games, correct thinking
there probably should be There should be some accountability if
we do win six games, and I would like to
see you host a one hour segment with Bob from Jamestown.

Speaker 14 (32:08):
If you are wrong.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Oh no, I wouldn't do that to I wouldn't do
that to the listeners. It's not even so much me
as it would be the listeners. I couldn't do that,
but I'll take accountabill. I want us to win six
if you want to. If somebody comes up with something,
if they win six, I'm glad to I'm glad to
do it because I want them to win terribly. And
I think five is still optimistic because it's still the

(32:32):
over in terms of in terms of wins. But I'll
I'll take whatever punishment you want. I appreciate the call.
If they win six, we'll make you do something. When
we're partying at the Duke's Mayo Bowl. Oh, I would
like listen. The Duke's Mao Bowl would be a huge
success for us. Oh my goodness, we were able to
go something like that, I think it would. I think

(32:52):
it would completely change the fortunes of the program. You
win six, I think that number from eleven percent optimistic
gets closer to or fifty. You get an off season
of recruiting where I think they'll be able to I
think they're gonna have money to do it, and I think.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
It would work out.

Speaker 6 (33:07):
I'm telling you, if this team can get to six,
get to a bowl game, it'll be one of Stoop's
best coaching jobs. And I know it's just six wins,
but if he's able to pull it off with what
he's got with fifty five new faces, it'll go down
as one of his best jobs.

Speaker 4 (33:17):
Well, this Kentucky Skin Cancer Center talking some trash in
their new ad do you want to read? Want me
to read? Oh my goodness, I recently heard about a
company that has.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
Grown g R O A n Oh my wow. I
wonder who he's talking about.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
I'm not the Kentucky Skin Cancer Spicy. You know you're
open a new uh, you open a new place in
Glasgow and you start to get a little spicy, don't
That's right? You can go get your moles checked and
be spicy at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. They've got
him uh in Kentucky Bowling, Green, Owens, bro Franklin, Powderley,
and now a new one in Glasgow. One in five

(33:54):
Americans will deal with skins cancers, and in Kentucky the
number is even higher. So trust doctor Skaggs and his folks.
Make sure you go and get checked out. Patients says compassionate,
gets you in quickly and takes time to explain things.
Do not wait to get them checked out. It can
be the difference in being healthy and not. Kentucky Skin
Cancercenter dot com to book your appointment. You're not just

(34:16):
a patient. Your family at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.
We've been we've been a little uh, you know, I
don't want to say negative on this show. Just not
overly optimistic. If you are optimistic about tomorrow, if you
can get us pumped up, if you can make it exciting,
if you can make me think we're gonna beat Toledo
A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,

(34:38):
give us a shout. We'll take a break, come back.
Final segment. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. That's right. As
we were standing here, guess who just walked by? Shannon, Uh,
leading with That's right. Let's just let's hear a little chorus. Yeah,
lead in with Eland means more jobs for us. We

(35:02):
didn't there it is. It comes on you ready, Okay,
here we go lead in Maidland. Then must go. Won't
join me anyway? He just walked by. I had a
Medland former governor, guberatorial candidate auditor just walked by.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Best campaign Jean Glover.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
They win him election, but he won our hearts and
even more exciting, Shannon, the couch car just drove by.
Now the route the rude drivers of Lexington would not
let him get over, so he is circling the block
get hit around. But a couple of things about the
couch car very aggressive in traffic.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
He was he merged right into traffic anyway.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
He had no problem merging in. He stuck his nose
in like it was the Bristol Motor Speedway and he
was hurt heart and that was Terry Lomboni. He got
his nose in.

Speaker 7 (35:55):
There's three lanes here. He's in the far winding. He
almost made it all the way across.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
He was trying. How about the UK flag? That was exciting.
So he's circling the box. Channon, we may just run
and get in the car with him, but I don't
know if he'll let us get on the couch, but
we will see. It'll be the.

Speaker 8 (36:08):
Perfect way to end the show, just right off into
the sunset, on.

Speaker 4 (36:11):
The couch, right off into the sunset. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
I've not seen it since he put the big Kentucky
flag on the back.

Speaker 4 (36:16):
Two of them. There's two of them. So hopefully he
gets back around here so that we can get on
before this ends. Who's up next? No one, go ahead,
make me excited. Wait a minute, that was weird.

Speaker 13 (36:30):
Hey man, I just I personally want to really thank
you for you guys from interaction from yesterday, even though
I came in on Wednesday, thinking I was only going
to pay three bucks, but thirty dollars that was absolutely
worth it for how you guys like seriously, I just
I really want to appreciate just overall on the fact,
how you guys being like I think but he said
the number one rated like local sports radio in the

(36:51):
entire nation, and you guys doing everything to be able
to reach out to be interacted with the fans and
be around people, and you just don't get.

Speaker 14 (37:01):
Like high big businesses of like that where people like that.
So I really appreciate what you guys do with that
a lot.

Speaker 5 (37:08):
Hey, no, I think we may have lost connection with
the guys out there, but uh I thought I heard
them coming back on. Really appreciate you coming by the
bar man, glad you liked the wings. Sorry, we didn't
give you as good as deal as what you were expecting.
But I still think though dollar wings dollar per wing
is a good deal.

Speaker 8 (37:25):
But we appreciate you stopping by there.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
Oh it is.

Speaker 14 (37:28):
Yeah, just do you guys' interactions in every way, it's
really awesome. Like I just, it was every bit worth
it for the money that.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
I did pay.

Speaker 5 (37:34):
All right, No, appreciate it. Thanks for the call eight
five nine, two eighty seven. I don't know if they're
gonna come back to the studio or what the plan is.
It's just me right now until we get reconnected with
the guys out on the street. Let's go back to
the phones and talk to Jordan. Hey, Jordan, what's up?

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Hey?

Speaker 15 (37:53):
Yeah, just calling with some optimism for football. I think
we we tried the high ceiling guys that didn't make it,
but now we've got proven college guys. And I mean,
I know Toledo is good in the MAC, but all
MAC right tackle is our right tackle. All MAC linebacker
is our linebacker. So it comes down to Jimmy jin
Joe's and we're just gonna line up and run it
down their throats. So looking forward to it. And then Yeah,

(38:16):
kipching On, I'm with you on that.

Speaker 5 (38:18):
Like I said earlier, I don't know why there's so
much hype about Toledo and the offseason. I feel like
that's all I've heard about, Like like, we can't measure
up against Toledo, and you know, if we play the
game tomorrow and they lose, forget that. I said all
of this because we got bigger problems on our hands.
If we can't beat Toledo. But again, you're talking about
a completely different team than you had last year. You're
talking about over fifty new players that Kentucky brought in,

(38:40):
so to compare last year's team to this year's team,
I don't know where all the pessimism comes in.

Speaker 8 (38:46):
You know, there's a lot of unknown when you bring
in that many.

Speaker 5 (38:49):
Players, But I would argue e, when you're bringing in
an entire new team, there's just as much reason to
be optimistic as there is pessimistic about the team.

Speaker 8 (38:58):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 15 (39:00):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean I think it kind
of reminds me of the early Stoops teams like seventeen.
Stephen Johnson not the greatest guy, but he's not going
to lose your games, and Benny Snill is going to
run it down your third. And I think we're going
to do that. And I think Kissen's going to hang
about seventy on an FCS school this week and then
Stoops is going to line up and run it down
to third next week and we'll win again.

Speaker 5 (39:20):
So yeah, I mean, I think the argument for getting
to six wins, which is now what Ryan and Drew
has picked.

Speaker 8 (39:25):
They finally come on board with me.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
By the way, I've been ringing the six and six
bells since the offseason, since last December. So but the
way that I think they get there is you win
the games you're supposed to and then there's a couple
of games that I think are swing games that you
can still get. South Carolina on the road is going
to be tough this year, but that's a team that
you used to dominate if you're Kentucky. They won seven

(39:47):
out of eight at one point during a stretch with
Mark Stoops.

Speaker 8 (39:50):
I think they can do it again.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
You take care of Vandy, which again Vandy's tougher than
they have been in the years past, but that's a
game that's very winnable, and then you go on the
oh to maybe knock off your biggest rival. You knock
off levelle at the end, and I think that's how
you can get to six.

Speaker 15 (40:05):
Yeah, I think there's definitely a path to six and six.
I mean Georgia and Texas look, you know, not beatable.
But other than that, I think you look at each
game in it back and we could win any of them.
So I'm not not conceding South Carolina. I'm definitely not
conceding Tennessee or Florida at home, so those are all winnable,
I think. So I'm looking forward to it, all.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Right, Jordan, thank you for the call. We got Matt
on the phone. Now, Hey, Matt, all right.

Speaker 16 (40:29):
So I'm down here. Drew has jumped onto the couch.
Car is right back in studio.

Speaker 8 (40:33):
Yet I'm not sure if he is or not. Let's see, Ryan,
are you there, Yes, I'm here.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
I'm here. Yeah, all right, so I'm here.

Speaker 16 (40:41):
Let's do quickly. Let's do our picks here. We've got
Cats in Toledo. Kentucky is at this moment a ten
point favorite. Ryan, give me the score.

Speaker 6 (40:51):
I think it's gonna be a low scoring score, and
I think it's gonna be that way all season. So
I'm gonna say Kentucky twenty four to ten, twenty four
tens my final score.

Speaker 5 (40:59):
I'm going tomorrow, Shannon, give me the Cats thirty one seventeen.

Speaker 4 (41:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (41:08):
So, I feel like Kentucky has basically had an offseason
where very few things have gone right. They've made the
decision to not promote this game heavily. But I still
think tomorrow they come out and surprise people play better
than our fans expect and end up winning the game.
That's probably close for a little bit in the first half,
but then in the second half the Cats find their

(41:29):
speed and they go thirty one to thirteen. Kentucky wins
against Toledo. We are going to have tomorrow our pregame
show starts at eight thirty live from Ksbar. We will
have the restaurant will open at nine. We will lead
you up into the game. I'll be with you after
the game. It is Kentucky Sports are at Kentucky and
