Wings all day and night. If you eat in you
you can't get them delivered to you. But starting next week, Shannon,

(01:13):
you'll be able to get Ryan lemon delivered to your house.

Speaker 6 (01:16):
Oh wow, right, more about that. We're gonna talk more
about this tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
This is a whole game plan that is certain to
be a disaster, but it is something that we're we're
gonna try next week. But for today, Uh, dollar Wings
all day and night. Ryan is here, Drew, Shannon, guys.
Uh took a flight here yesterday. We are two days
away from South Africa. My car, my Safari pants came in.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
They did, okay, all.

Speaker 6 (01:43):
Ready to go.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Yeah, I got my Safari pants, two pairs of Safari
pants and now ready for whatever's next.

Speaker 7 (01:49):
So you got your Safari pants, and now you gotta
find you some boots up in New York somewhere.

Speaker 6 (01:52):
Before you find boots, you know, most people come to
New York City.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Drew for their boots when they want to go boot shopping,
They're like, what's better than New New York City? But
I actually have a place that's been recommended to me
in New York that specializes in safari shoes? Is it
that only in New York City could you get that specialization?

Speaker 8 (02:09):
Wre you giving you a walk a little Madison ab
maybe a little fifth.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
Go And I don't think it's there, it's in I
don't know. I guess it's in the safari part of town.
I haven't looked up where it is yet, but it's
time Square. I found a hat where I put the
hat on my little safari hat and somebody said that
aged you fifteen years just putting that hat on your head.

Speaker 6 (02:29):
But that's good, though, because that's what you're supposed to do.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
You know, you got I gotta go out on the
open plains, go see the uh the lion.

Speaker 6 (02:36):
There's no tiger.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
It's lion, rhino, hippo, giraffe, giraffe and buffalo. And then
also they have an elephant. But that's not I think
part of the Big five. So Shannon, those are the group.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Well you'll think it's part of the Big five if
you look over and there's an elephant standing right next
to you about to squash you.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
I think they only have though I was reading I
read that book The Elephant Whisper, and I think there's
only elephants like in certain places because because you know,
if the elephants get away, Shannon, that can be bad.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Yeah, feel like you can do about it.

Speaker 6 (03:08):
Yeah, So I think they only have those in a
few places.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Well that's that's good. And you know you're in New
York City.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
If you can't find it there, then you're not gonna
find it anywhere.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
Yeah, Ryan Lemon.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
Okay, so I just sprung this upon you four minutes ago,
so I'm sure you've had a lot of time to
think about it or have you even looked at your
phone yet?

Speaker 9 (03:25):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, we were curious.

Speaker 6 (03:27):
Well go ahead, what do you mean you were curious?

Speaker 7 (03:29):
But we didn't know if you want us to do
football only or most sports basketball?

Speaker 6 (03:35):
I'll explain.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
So, so, uh, you know, we don't have a monopoly
on good ideas. Other people have good ideas too, and
we need to recognize what other people have good ideas.
So the folks there at bb in tonight, which includes
former KSR Superstar employee Maggie Davis, they've been doing this
thing where they were ranking the top all the people

(03:57):
that work on the show their top five you moments
since twenty twenty.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
But basically, Shannon, it's their top twenty five.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Moments since COVID, right, because COVID obviously was a huge
disruption in.

Speaker 6 (04:11):
All of sports and we are now five years from it.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
And actually it was starting about this time in twenty
twenty that people tried to get some normalcy in their lives.
So what are the top five moments in UK sports
since twenty twenty? So I thought what I would do
is I'd give you my top five and then I
didn't give Shannon the homework because he was on the air.
So Ryan Drew, you can give your top five, right,

(04:36):
and we'll see to see what we've missed. All right,
So here I thought this was a great idea.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
They did.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
So here's my top five. I'm gonna give two honorable mentions. Okay,
these are not in my top five, and honorable mentions.
Number one, when the UK women's team won the SEC
tournament that one year, right, they when they came out
of that you remember what I'm talking about, when they
hit the shot at the buzzer. We weren't even good
and we went on a run with Ryan Howard won

(05:01):
the SEC tournament. I remember watching those games getting excited.
It was really the kyra Elz really her only highlight
during her time, but I enjoyed that. And then the
other one is the UK women's volleyball team Ryan winning
the national championship, right, I mean that was one of
the first full bar moments we had after COVID. The

(05:22):
celebration was wild and Kentucky gets a banner in volleyball.
Those are my two honorable mentioned moments And part of
the reason I bring the second one up is Craig Skinner,
the UK volleyball coach, will be on here at ten thirty.

Speaker 7 (05:35):
Well, he's as hot as anybody right now as far
as bullying the volleyball world, So you got to be
good interview with him.

Speaker 6 (05:40):
Do you agree with those spots, Drew? I do.

Speaker 8 (05:43):
I like you, including the women's game I'll give you
Drayna Edwards and her famous postgame interview where she was
screaming on the SEC network after HiT's a big three
to win.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
That's right, all right? So now let's go through my
top five.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Number five, I'm going to say our series of Tennessee
road wins in basketball the last three years, three years
in a row, we went into Tennessee with seasons where
we thought, well, there's no way we're winning this year,
and then we went and won. Three years ago, it
was when they first put in Antonio Reeves and those

(06:17):
guys into the game and CJ. Frederick in a game
that nobody thought we were gonna win, and we went
on the road and won. And then two years ago,
same thing. Reed Shepherd and Antonio Reeves play well down
there and we win. And then this year, a ragtag
Kentucky team at the time, with multiple guys out and
Trent and Noah coming off the bench, goes and gets

(06:39):
a victory that literally no one thought. I was actually
in New York watching it at Madison Square Garden when
it happened. Those are my number five's I'm gonna collectively
say the last three years of Tennessee road wins. Number
four for me is gonna be football twenty twenty three
against u of L, a season that seemed over. I
think there's a decent chance Mark Stoops was leaving if

(07:03):
we lost this game, and again with no one thinking
we would go on the road beat Louisville. Turn a
season into a season where you go to a bowl
game and actually get a little momentum on the program.
It didn't end up lasting, but nevertheless, it was an
exciting one for me. Number Three Florida Football. We've had

(07:24):
a couple of good wins at home against Florida Football,
but the one that's for me is when Wallace getting
to get the kick block run it back. I think
that's in twenty twenty one, probably the loudest that stadium
has been since COVID. The moment where he picks up
the kick runs it back is literally top three or

(07:44):
four Kroger Field explosion moment that I can remember. That's
number three for me. Number two is last year Duke
in Kentucky in the Champions Classic. Another game where I
don't think many of us thought we're gonna win. Cooper
Flag making his debut, Mark Pope era making their major
debut and getting a win that I think made people

(08:08):
will any people who were at all holding out on
the Mark Pope higher, I think that game put it
over the top. And that was a postgame show. I
believe that ended at about two thirty in the morning,
but with people being pretty excited. And then Number one
for me, and it's not even close, is the Mark
Pope press conference when he was hired. I was on

(08:30):
a podcast last night with these guys up to No Good,
and I said, I think that was the moment that
BBN as an entity felt like it did when I
was a kid. For the first time in a long time,
twenty three thousand people spontaneously gather like at a tent
revival in rupp Ana and have this moment of collective

(08:56):
just a collective excitement that I think will be hard
to ever recreate, and like all the great moments, you
couldn't plan it. It just kind of happened. And for me,
that's number one. So those are my top five. Ryan Drew,
what about you?

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Here me go if you're ready far away.

Speaker 7 (09:14):
I also had an honorable mention and it is the
Duke Duke Kentucky game because that was put an honorable
mention because I'm kind of selfish with my top five
that I picked, so but I think that definitely needs
deserves me in because they did kind of solidify the
hire of Mark Pope and kind of set them on
that pass. So that's my honorable mention. Number five. Dane
Key starts his UK football career scoring a touchdown in

(09:34):
his first four games. People forget that as a freshman
his first four games. He had a touchdown each of
the first four games. That's that's number five for me.
I know it's kind of personal and it's selfish, but
that's number five. Number four Kentucky winning at Florida in
twenty twenty two.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I was there with Josiah.

Speaker 7 (09:49):
We flew down there, Dane scored a touchdown and to
win at the swamp and shut them up and celebrate
on their on their field for the first time and
maybe my lifetime.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
I mean it was that was elevens.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
Well, we had beaten him a few years back with
Terry Wilson and those guys, but you weren't there. But
that was the Levis Richardson battle. Remember that was the
who's better with these guys and we were able to win. Alright,
what's next?

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Number three?

Speaker 7 (10:14):
I put the UK baseball team going to the College
Baseball World Series for the first time in school history.
I mean, to me, being a baseball guy, that was
pretty special and that.

Speaker 6 (10:23):
Would have been higher for me.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
I wasn't here, So for me, that's a hard one
to put down, but it probably deserves to be in
the top five.

Speaker 6 (10:30):
I just wasn't here.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
I couldn't remember and I didn't have time to look
up who do we beat in the super Regional? I
know we beat like Indiana West Virginia in the games
in Lexington.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
Who do we beat in the super that was in
its state? Again? Okay, all right? So yes, what's number two?

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Number two?

Speaker 7 (10:45):
When we beat you mentioned this beating Florida at home,
storming the field, that was kind of a signature moment.
I think for Stupids' is maybe his biggest home win
when he beat Florida at home. So that's number two
for me because I was there with Jill Siah. We
stormed the field with everybody pretty cool. And then number
one I had the same thing you did as the
Mark Pope rally when he got announced as head coach.
I think that is, without a doubt, the best UK

(11:07):
moment since COVID.

Speaker 8 (11:08):
All right, Drew, I think mine is a lot of
what you've said in just different orders, but I'll start
at the top because we all swept with Mark Pope
at number one. Was didn't even have to think about it.
My brain immediately went to that Sunday write it down
in SHARPI is my number one moment in the last
five years. Then I went Baseball to Omaha. I didn't
I didn't get to go to Omahall, but I was

(11:29):
there for every moment of the run in Lexington.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (11:32):
That was about as much fun as I've had an
Kentucky fan in a long time. Wish I could have
gone to Omahall, but it's still number two for me.
Number three I don't think you all mentioned this one.
I have the Citrus Bowl win over Iowa.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
When we's to go, we.

Speaker 8 (11:46):
Wind down, broke ankles on the final drive to set
up Rodriguez to punch it in. That was the second
ten win season for Stoops, something that that's possible, and that.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
Would have been my next honorable mention because I do
think that's a great one.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
It was. I don't know if.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
It'll be the last real bowl game like that that matters,
but it did feel like it mattered a lot.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
That's a good one and.

Speaker 8 (12:06):
The way it played out that Iowa dB had been
talking trash and Yandelle just shattered his ankles there at
the goal line.

Speaker 6 (12:12):
Four.

Speaker 8 (12:12):
I have the Champions Classic Duke last year. It's only
the second time Kentucky had beaten Duke since nineteen ninety eight,
So that one was long overdue. They had our number
for a long time, and then at number five. I
don't think this was mentioned either. When Levis ran all
over Louisville. In Louisville, Kentucky scored for fifty two points.
I think he had four rushing touchdowns. The big hurdle,

(12:35):
they just absolutely hurdle, demolished, destroyed them. That's one of
the few times Mark Stoops actually ran up a score
a little bit. Uh, maybe one of the highest scoring
games Stoops has ever coached. And then I'll throw in
an honorable mention for Ryan. He reminded me of that
Florida game with the Dane touchdown. Personally, I was on
my bachelor party and I got on top of the
bar and we were losing our damn minds when Dane scored.

(12:57):
So it was a fun night.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
There you go. So that's your uh, that's our top five.
If there's one that you forget, let me know, but
shout out to BBN tonight. I like having those memories,
and you know, one of the things, at least on
the basketball side, there are no real huge postseason moments.
I'm hoping when we do this at the end of
the decade and we actually include the entire decade. We

(13:21):
will be able to say, because if you did this
from like two thousand and ten to twenty twenty, most
of your basketball moments are gonna be in the postseason.
Football moments would have still still probably been regular season,
but basketball moments would have been in the postseason. Hopefully
we'll be able to get some of those A five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine

(13:42):
is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
Craig Skinner is gonna join us at ten thirty. The
UK volleyball team plays a third game against a top
ten team tonight.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
Again on national television.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
We'll talk about how he ended up doing that that schedule,
and there are football new news, there's basketball news, and
there's other things for us to make fun of it.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
We'll take a break and be right back. It's KISR.
Welcome back and is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Was there a commercial in that segment chatting about someone
stealing your house.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yeah, I didn't quite understand it, but I guess somebody
could come in and just steal your house.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
I didn't know that was a thing.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Like I thought that, I mean, steal your house I
guess they somehow get the topic or metaphor. I guess
somehow they get no, like, actually take your house, they
get your title. From what I understand, I could be wrong,
they take the title of your house and then they
have the documentation that says they own the house, and
then you get the house.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Against that, really against that.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
Yeah, So what how do you stop that from halving?

Speaker 4 (14:42):
I guess I guess you.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
I think that's at cornbread m dot com KSR.

Speaker 6 (14:48):
Okay, yeah, but so there was a commercial on how
to stop it.

Speaker 9 (14:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
I think you got to call that eight hundred number
and you can keep.

Speaker 6 (14:53):
Your house and they'll stop it. I don't want to
be Just for the record, I'm engaged. I don't.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
I know people don't want me to to go into
politics here, but I'm against people stealing each other's houses.

Speaker 6 (15:04):
Let me go on record as being clear about that.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
One person writes, Matt, you didn't it shows your bias
against non basketball sports that you didn't even have the
College World Series in your top five.

Speaker 6 (15:17):
Be better. I always love when people say be better.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
That's a very condescending thing to say, and I think
that's why it makes me laugh. I wasn't here, so
like I freely grant that I was. I try should
be on the list. But I was in when they
won the region super Regional. I was at the first
couple of games. When they won the super Regional, I
was in transit, and then I did see the game

(15:42):
where they beat NC State in Greece, but then I
didn't have access to the rest of the game, so
I wasn't there. But Drew you had it at number two,
so it was clearly a big deal.

Speaker 8 (15:49):
Yes, and it was Oregon State in Lexington, n C
State in Omaha, so.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
Yeah, I watched them beat NC State in their first
College World Series. So it was Oregon State in the
super Oregon State was the big that was in Lexington.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
That was awesome, huge.

Speaker 8 (16:03):
We got We got there like two and a half
hours before the game, just to be ready.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Eight, I'm twenty two eighty seven. One person writes, Matt,
you all have all these moments from Pope. You never
give cal Perry his due. Well, I mean, but what
do what? What is the Cali Perry game since since COVID?
I mean, I mentioned those two road wins at Tennessee
that those were both him.

Speaker 8 (16:29):
I considered winning at Kansas. I almost had it instead
of oh that's a good.

Speaker 6 (16:33):
One, yeah, because they beat him by a lot. I
almost put that one right.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
So there's Oscar and Severe and what Keon Jos had
a big game.

Speaker 8 (16:42):
I think Jacob Toppin played Will Brooks had a huge game.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
But we were trying to think of I was trying
to think of a Caliperry game.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
That's a good one though. That Kansas game is a
good call.

Speaker 7 (16:50):
And the only one other one I came up was
when Reid had like forty eight down an old miss
or something on the road.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
It was like, you know, just some try think of.

Speaker 7 (16:56):
What comes out Reves Reeves.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
Had, but then Reeves have like forty five at Arkansas
or something.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
That in Arkansas. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (17:05):
Yeah, there's also when they won at Auburn is a
big underdog and Cal did the oh look at everybody's
here to see me lose because they won that big game,
and then I think they lost the next move.

Speaker 7 (17:16):
I admit I do think that was a big win.
I do kind of miss Cal when he does kind
of stuff like that. Guy always made me laugh.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
You like you missed the swaggy cat.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Swaggy cow. Yeah I missed that.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
Yeah, ef, I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven.
If you have one, throw it in there. Let's talk
for just a second about Drew the UK practice facility.
So Mitch, Mitch talked to the press yesterday while we
were on the show, so I didn't see these quotes
tool after the show about the UK Healthcare and the

(17:47):
basketball arena. And for me, just from what I've heard,
and this is just my opinion, I think the basketball
practice facility with UK Healthcare seems like a win win
for everybody. You know, UK Healthcare I think gonna end
up taking most of the costs, not all, but most
It'll be. It's gonna be a good advertisement for them.
I mean, the idea I'm sure for them is, hey,

(18:10):
you need some sort of medical procedure done on you
when you tear your acl with Shannon playing pickleball. Come
to the UK Healthcare facility. And oh, by the way,
you're gonna be next door to the practice facility, right,
I mean, I think that's what people are gonna don't
you think that's the business idea of it.

Speaker 6 (18:27):
And I would think people would do that. I totally
understand that.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
Mitch also then said it's part of a greater plan
for that whole entertainment district. Now I'm on record as
being a little skeptical that's gonna work. I Mean, he
says he wants to create an area like the area
in Milwaukee around the arena where Drew and I and
Ryan you were there too for the basketball tournament, right yep,

(18:51):
and then around Indianapolis for their basketball arena. He wants
to do that basically on campus between Memorial Coliseum and
Kroger Field. And there's a lot of things in the
way to me. I mean, one would be Drew that
there's a lot of campus. Is there you just gonna get.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
Rid of all that, you know? I mean, that's a
lot of the campus.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
The second thing is there's a difference between like a
downtown area and I don't know whether to what extent
on your college campus you want.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
Citizens just walking up and down shop.

Speaker 5 (19:29):
I mean, I don't know if you really do you
really want to turn your college campus into a commercial district.
I'm not sure that that's I don't know what do
you think about that?

Speaker 8 (19:38):
I'm with you. I'm having a hard time picturing it,
and the examples you give those are major cities with
you know, a lot around there where it's not just
the games. I mean there's stuff going on all the
time where people would go use those I don't see
how that would work in the middle of the UK's campus.
Are we just going to throw up a big Dave
and busters there? Like I'm having a hard time picturing
what they're trying to do.

Speaker 5 (19:58):
The vision stuff is the I mean, are you just
tearing down those school buildings? I mean, there's a lot
of stuff if you're I mean, I think the thought
process is from where the old baseball stadium is until
up until Memorial some way you would have a commercial hotel,
restaurant path. But A, I just don't know where you

(20:21):
would put it there, and they didn't give any plans
as to where you would put it. But B I
don't know, Shannon, if you want everyone walking that campus
at night?

Speaker 6 (20:33):
Do you?

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Probably not?

Speaker 3 (20:35):
And I'm not as familiar with the setup as you
guys are, but it doesn't seem like that would be
an area that you would want a lot of people
going through.

Speaker 6 (20:44):
Now, he said, he was acknowledged.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
He goes, it's a place for us to have a
better basketball facility, and to raise revenue. I mean, it's
clear that they are getting into the business of we
are now an entertainment entity, and so we have to
like get into a lot of other stuff outside of
just the sports. And I'm sure he probably does have
to do that. I mean, I think doing this downtown

(21:09):
would make a lot of sense. I don't know if
doing it right there will make sense, but I do
think Ryan the part about the basketball facility will be
good for everybody involved.

Speaker 7 (21:18):
Yeah, we we all know these cities that have done
this in a downtown setting, close to an arena, bars, restaurants, hotels,
all kind of together.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
I'm kind of with Drew.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
I'm having a hard time kind of picturing this area
they're talking about over there on campus.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
I mean, what's going to.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
Drive you out there on a non game day, you know,
on game days, I'm gonna hear that you're.

Speaker 8 (21:37):
Going right around the library dorms.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
I think they're just gonna say, you know what, why
do we even need this library anymore?

Speaker 10 (21:47):
That is the David bus Sorry there, you just get
rid of the library. Mad Busters, William T and Busters
put it and build it now. And like Ryan said, football,
what does this look like? On a Monday night in June,
drive people.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Out there that that's part of town. There's nothing there.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
Well, I mean that's something you know that part the
thing about the campus area is from from May till
September it's empty, Like like that area is empty. You
can walk down Euclid on a July night and like
you could play football in the middle of the street,
like nobody's there. And I just think that I don't

(22:28):
know how that works. At the same time, though, you
know that Mitch was almost hinting that if they don't
do that, it's hard to get this facility. So, I mean,
it kind of feels like it's one of those things
that's gonna happen.

Speaker 6 (22:41):
He says.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
It's six months before they even announce a perspective plan.
It sounds like they're going to create a plan, Shannon,
to make a plan.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
Yeah, so we'll see what.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
The plan is. It's a concept of a plan and
we'll see if that ends up happening. Craig Skinner will
join us and a lot of goofy stuff. In the
second hour, KSR.

Speaker 6 (23:02):
TJ.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll make them pay now.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
Welcome back at his Kentucky Sports Radio UK volleyball coach
and I guess take on the world. Who bring it on?
If you're in the top five, top seven, Craig Skinner
will say, come on, we'll play you. He joins us
here on the radio. Craig, I didn't analyze your schedule
before the season, but now every weekend I turned it on.

(23:33):
You're gonna be on national TV. You're playing another top team.
I'm sure that was on purpose. What was the reasoning?

Speaker 11 (23:41):
A little insanity, But I'll I'm like I said a
couple of weeks ago, I'll take fifty percent of the credit.
We always want to schedule tough, and but when you
get invited to neutral side events promoted by other people
and it's a nationally televised event, you can't say no.
And so you know, like this one was is the
acc SEC Challenge and the Nebraska match was a Nashville

(24:04):
Sports Council and so ended up and didn't realize that
to some point out that we're playing all final four
teams from last year.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
So here we go.

Speaker 5 (24:12):
Yeah, and I mean you you beat Penn State, the
defending national champ. You had Nebraska two sets to zero,
and now you're gonna play Pitt. Let me ask you
about let's just go those in order. Nebraska, you're up
to zero. I mean, everybody knows Nebraska is the power
historically in volleyball, especially in recent years. I mean, did

(24:32):
you think you had a team that would come out
that good against a crowd that was you know, mostly
Nebraska fans and packed like I mean, that had to
make you happy about your team, and then why wasn't
Why don't you think you were able to finish it
off at the end?

Speaker 9 (24:46):
Yeah, great question. I mean I didn't know.

Speaker 11 (24:48):
You never really know you're playing against yourself in preseason
and we played one match.

Speaker 9 (24:52):
Nebraska had played three up to that point. You know,
never really knew.

Speaker 11 (24:57):
I knew we had two outside hitters, and Eva Hudson
and Brooklyn Brooklyn delay that you're always gonna have a
chance in matches if you have two people in that
position that can termine it like they do.

Speaker 9 (25:07):
So I think we came out hot.

Speaker 11 (25:09):
I think we put them on their heels and and
then you know, they started to figure out what our
system was and and got the right people in the
right places, and and we didn't adjust quick enough at
the end and had some chances in the fourth set.
And you know, but I think it gave our team
some confidence knowing that can compete with anybody.

Speaker 9 (25:26):
But you know, tonight would be another test.

Speaker 11 (25:28):
And you know, we're just a friend of mine just
text me earlier and said, we were on all bench
this morning.

Speaker 9 (25:33):
We're trying to get one of those. We can get
in the top five.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
So well, and you still have a Louisville Right, that's
another I mean, your schedule's crazy because you're still gonna
play Louisville. Then you're gonna have I guess Texas is
in the top ten in the SEC, so you're gonna
end in the I guess what, Florida's just outside of it.
You could end up with six, what six games against
teams in the top ten this year.

Speaker 11 (25:55):
We have Fit tonight, then we have SMU on Saturday
at home at three o'clock and they just beat tech
A and M who's top ten.

Speaker 9 (26:01):
Uh swept them. Uh. Then we have Houston, then we
have Louisville.

Speaker 11 (26:05):
Yeah, it's it's pretty crazy, to be honest with you. You know,
I the thing about I think this team as we
have a bunch of alpha competitors and they do not
want to have any part of losing. And so I
think that, you know, we're gonna give ourselves a chance
each match. It's just closing the deal when when you
need to, and and so you know, I definitely want
to go into battle with this group of people.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
Uh, Brooklyn, she's good. What's her like? Lay? Is that? Right?

Speaker 9 (26:32):
Delay?

Speaker 6 (26:33):
Delay?

Speaker 5 (26:33):
She's gonna be Ryan with you guys at Clark's Puppet
Shop Friday.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Right, Yeah, I believe Brooklyn's coming in. Molly is it?
Tuoso coach? They're both too of them going to be there.

Speaker 9 (26:41):
I think tuzzo tuzzo.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
Yeah, you have to forgive us, I mean collectively our pronunciations.
You listen to this show, you know, I mean we
don't get we don't we don't get anybody's name, right,
But both they I watched the third set maybe I
was the Jinks the third set to the Nebraska, and
you mentioned how hard well they were hitting too. You

(27:04):
have some again I don't know these positions, but where
you the Spiker.

Speaker 6 (27:08):
I'll just say that it.

Speaker 5 (27:09):
Feels like how many players have you had that's hit
as hard as they do.

Speaker 6 (27:13):
You mentioned that a minute ago.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
You're not very many.

Speaker 9 (27:18):
I mean, they are definitely at the top of the list.

Speaker 11 (27:20):
And we've had several that you know that can you know,
hit with the same velocity, but it's consistent, it's with range.

Speaker 9 (27:26):
It's very low air.

Speaker 11 (27:27):
You got some kids that blast the ball that you
never know exactly where it's going. So these guys have
a good idea where it's going and they can put
heat on it. But they can also throw, you know,
like a pitcher in baseball. They can throw a change
up and drop it in you know where the defenders aren't.
So they got some variety in their game and got
a lot of lot of tools in there in their box,
and you know, fun to watch, and again you want

(27:49):
them in your foxhole.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
When this whole nil thing started, I think, my guess
is you tell me if I'm wrong about this, But
my guess is coaches in sports like volleyball had to
sit here and think, Okay, where are we going to
be on the university priority list? Because I sort of
said at the time, I think universities are all gonna
have to choose to commit to football. And then they'll
get to pick a couple other sports and then some

(28:13):
of the others. It may it may be who knows,
how did you think it was gonna go? And how
has UK volleyball set up in this new NIL rev
share era.

Speaker 11 (28:26):
Yeah, you never know exactly you know where you're gonna
end up. And you know, I don't envy the position
that ads are in. I mean it's like, ultimately you're
picking children in terms of how you want to prioritize.
You know what the athletic department looks like. I mean,
we have always been taken care of by Mitch and
our administration. We've always been put in position to recruit

(28:49):
the best players and this is no different.

Speaker 9 (28:51):
And we've have great classes.

Speaker 11 (28:53):
In twenty five, another one in twenty six, and even
you know we've worked it on twenty twenty seven. So
you know, we've always been supported, We've always had the
chance to compete for SEC and national championships and you know,
of course, you know we have to adapt as coaches.
I mean, it's it's ridiculous how much we've had to
adapt in the last five or six years. Not just
the game itself, which you always have to, but the

(29:15):
climate and landscape, and and so you know, not everyone's
making a million dollars, but you've got to make sure
that every player on your roster feels valued.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
And do you think Kentucky Volleyball is set up to
do that going forward? Yes, well there you go. That's
not like wow, I think the start. First of all,
I like the quiet confidence there, Drew. You can hear
it in his voice, didn't you.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 6 (29:39):
I love that you were.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
Getting fired up, by the way in that game in Nashville,
the announceers, we're noting that you've got that fire in
your belly. I think that's fun to way. That's That's
a big part of how you coach, isn't it.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
You know, some people say have some fires. Some people
I'm too calm.

Speaker 11 (29:55):
I mean, you know, it's it's I think the biggest
thing for me is you've got to allow your players
to play free inside the lines. If they're paying attention
to me, then their attention is in the wrong place.
And so there's definitely a time a need for some
fire and some choice words, and we'll certainly deliver that
when it's needed. But between the lines, if we haven't.

Speaker 9 (30:14):
If they haven't learned.

Speaker 11 (30:15):
We haven't taught in practice, so it's their moment to
get out there and do things and if some intensity
level is needed, we'll we'll make sure we provide something.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
It is UK and Pitt tonight six point thirty on ESPN.
It's a doubleheader. Louisville plays after US. It's in Fort Worth,
Top seven matchup Kentucky, number three in the country. Craig,
great start to the season. Good luck and I'm sure
we'll be talking to you later as the year goes on.

Speaker 9 (30:41):
I appreciate, appreciate you guys. Have a great day.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
There you go tonight ESPN. I know what you're gonna
be doing tonight, Ryan, right, I'm.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Telling you, man, it's exciting to watch.

Speaker 7 (30:50):
They've made a lot of volleyball fans out of a
lot of a UK fan just because it is you
get kind of addicted to it. It's so exciting and
fun and fast paced, and they're so good.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
I like volleyball, Shanning because people clap after every play.
It's got to be the most positive affirming sport.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
Oh, you don't clap after every playing football.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
No.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
The girls on the volleyball team both teams, whether you
score or not they give each other a high five.
Is there any sport where people are more positive, Shannon
than that one?

Speaker 6 (31:20):
So positive? No matter what?

Speaker 4 (31:21):
Probably not.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
And it's kind of akin to like when a guy
misses a free throw and they still go give them
a high five.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
Don't get me out of five. I just missed a
free throw.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
I don't imagine in basketball if you did that after every.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Play the bounds and you can get to a little huddle.

Speaker 6 (31:35):
On you know what, it's okay, We're still We're still
doing it.

Speaker 5 (31:39):

Speaker 6 (32:14):
This is KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Channon.
Tell tell everyone what you said to me during the break?

Speaker 3 (32:21):
Oh, I told Matt that he's great at interviewing people
about things he has no idea about.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
That's clear about volleyball.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
But he you navigated the interview well, so I was
getting you very nice.

Speaker 6 (32:33):
What do you mean I have no idea about? What
did I say, Jesse? I had no idea about ball?

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Well, you know the one, the the the Spike, Spiker,
the Spiker.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
That's what they go by, don't they te Don't they
go by the Spiker?

Speaker 6 (32:46):
On KR? They do?

Speaker 4 (32:47):
That was the quote, the Spiker.

Speaker 6 (32:51):
Would you have said, smarty pants you?

Speaker 4 (32:53):
I wouldn't have known what to ask him.

Speaker 6 (32:55):
Hey, what's the what's the correct term? I know the.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Outside hitter inside hit her. They don't go to center. No,
I don't call them a spiker.

Speaker 6 (33:03):
No, they call them the Laredo see coloredo. The Laredo
is Bero. Listen.

Speaker 7 (33:15):
I think you did a good job because my I
had a news director and told me no, just enough
to fake it, and I think you faked it over.

Speaker 6 (33:20):
I wasn't faking it.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
I'm I'm I'm saying, like I bet you, most people
at home, Shannon think they're the Spiker, right.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
Sure, No, I was giving you there was a compliment.
It wasn't okay, it wasn't a dig Torrero Librero.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Right, yeah, little Libero, the Berro.

Speaker 8 (33:39):
They wear a different jersey. Their defense good.

Speaker 6 (33:42):
I understand. I'm a fan of hers.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
Anyway, if I'm not two eight oh twenty two, I
have to make fun of one of my friends here, Shannon,
you Bourbon and Beyond starts what tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (33:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (33:53):
That's right?

Speaker 6 (33:53):
Is that right?

Speaker 9 (33:53):
That's right?

Speaker 6 (33:54):
I looked at it. A lot of nineties bands.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
You got to Spin Doctors, Blues Traveler Collective, so.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Old, Yeah, Third Eye, Blinda Blond, Melon's Coming.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (34:06):
Hasn't that guy been dead for thirty five years? Yes?

Speaker 3 (34:09):
But you know they get other singers and move on. Yeah,
that happens in bends.

Speaker 6 (34:13):
So who are the big ones? You've got Sturgel ye? Uh?
Who else?

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Jack White, the Noah Khan, Noah Khan, the Lumineers.

Speaker 6 (34:23):
I like the Benson Boone. Isn't that right?

Speaker 3 (34:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Yeah, he's the guy.

Speaker 6 (34:27):
That do does backflips.

Speaker 8 (34:29):
I'm going for Benson Boone. I've never been Oh, you're
first Bourbon beyond I'm going for Benson Boone and the Lumineers.
Why you like to wear those suits with that backflip?
He did it the Grammy's is still one of the coolest.
Their front flip up. It's still on the coolest things
I've ever seen. Hoping he does the front flip and.

Speaker 6 (34:46):
Then I want to make okay, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
The biggest one is fish and they get like fish,
They get like three and a half hours because they
just jammed straight.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
No, but that's just because they're all on drugs.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
I mean, everybody's like, like, I mean, that's their fans, right,
They're all just gonna be running around.

Speaker 6 (35:02):
Am I wrong? You agree with me?

Speaker 3 (35:04):
I mean, I mean, I'm.

Speaker 6 (35:07):
Just talking about the people who are like, isn't that Ryan.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Yeah, I mean, you know, if you did a drug
test there, you would probably strike gold.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
But yeah, they get they get the rent.

Speaker 6 (35:14):
That was what they were known for. You're acting like
I'm saying something controversial.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
I didn't know.

Speaker 12 (35:18):
I'm not.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
I don't I'm not acting like anything. But all right, so.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Our mayor, as you know, my co owner at O
b W Craig Greenberg. I want everybody real quick. We're
gonna take a call. And while you do that, I
just want you to go to his Twitter account. Okay,
Louisville Mayor, it's a video.

Speaker 6 (35:34):
Don't even watch the video.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
Just pull the video up and then pause it when
the camera is on him, because I need to talk
about this, but I need you all to see it.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
While I'm talking about it.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
So pull up Louisville mayor Twitter account the video he
just did with I guess Danny Wimmer, I guess that's
the purbon of young guy. Pull that out and while
you're doing it, I'll take a call.

Speaker 6 (35:51):
Who's next?

Speaker 4 (35:52):
Okay, Crypto cowboy, Crypto cowboy?

Speaker 12 (35:54):
How are you good? How are you Matt? Good morning?
I wanted to just a good thank you asking I
wanted to quickly discuss your upcoming trip to South Africa.
Years back, when I was in college, I went on
a twenty two day long missions trip to South Africa.
And we flew out of Atlanta NonStop into Johannesburg and

(36:15):
then we'll spend a week in Cape Town and then
we ended in Durban, which, by the way, I don't
know if that's where you're snorkeling. But that is the
on the Indian Ocean, Durban is and that is the
Shark capital.

Speaker 6 (36:28):
Yeah, I don't think I'm going there. I don't think
that's where I'm going.

Speaker 12 (36:32):
I got you, so I wanted to ask you. You
said your flat was fifteen hours. I remember my flight
from Atlanta being substantially longer than fifteen hours.

Speaker 6 (36:41):
I got faster, stop, I got faster.

Speaker 12 (36:44):
I got you. I was curious about that because that
flight was brutal for us, and hours was closer to
nineteen or twenty hours. I remember.

Speaker 6 (36:51):
Yeah, yeah, I got a faster plane. I asked him
to go faster. The jet stream, Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (36:57):
You got to understand the jet stream man, and the
and the curve mature of the of the ocean and
the land.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
And I think that's why.

Speaker 5 (37:05):
Yeah, I think it's like fifteen hours and forty minutes
maybe something like that.

Speaker 12 (37:09):
Oh man, I'm glad you bought the first class ticket.
Your big long legs will definitely appreciate that.

Speaker 6 (37:14):
Well, thank you, sir, and I appreciate you listening.

Speaker 12 (37:17):
Yeah, enjoy, enjoy your trip. We did go to a
place called Shaka Land and our tour guide told us
again it was a missions trip. One out of every
two people at Chaka land at HIV, so it's very
interesting antibacterial.

Speaker 5 (37:34):
Well, I appreciate the call. All right, So are you
looking at the thing there of Craig? Yes, yes, I'll see. Okay,
So you know, I love Craig. I think he's been
a good mayor. But why is he wearing an affliction
T shirt?

Speaker 4 (37:50):
You don't like that old English font?

Speaker 7 (37:52):
No?

Speaker 5 (37:52):
First of all, I know it's the South end, like
that's the south end of Louisville. Yeah, But but the
Craig I know, Shannon, where's suite right?

Speaker 6 (38:01):
He's like you know that ye always got a collared shirt.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
But he's a politician. He's trying to appeal to you
know people shirt.

Speaker 6 (38:11):
Come on, Craig is not an affliction shirt.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Guy.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
If I showed up at Bourbonham Beyond and I had
that shirt on, you would make fun of me.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Of course I would, Yeah, I would.

Speaker 5 (38:24):
It's a lot more like there's look at that's like
Donald Trump showing up in that shirt?

Speaker 6 (38:32):
Is it not.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
True?

Speaker 6 (38:34):
You know what I'm talking about? Expect shirt?

Speaker 4 (38:37):
No, that's that.

Speaker 8 (38:38):
But he's he's at a rock concert. He's dressed for
the event.

Speaker 6 (38:41):
He's not at a meeting. Shirt you dressed like?

Speaker 5 (38:43):
You just wear like I could show up in a
Mega Death T shirt.

Speaker 8 (38:47):
I mean where else would you wear a Mega Death
T shirt?

Speaker 2 (38:49):
A rock concert?

Speaker 8 (38:50):
By Now, if he if he wore that to give
a speech downtown about a new business coming to Kentucky,
that'd be a little weird. But I think he's just
trying to fit in with the atmospheress for the shirt.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
So you would want your your politician to wear the
clothes of where they go, no matter where they go.
So he goes to a rap concert, he should dress
like Snoop.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
Yeah, absolute gold chains hanging off his neck.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
Yeah, I didn't.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
I could seem surprised.

Speaker 6 (39:18):
I thought you both would say, just be proud of
who you self is.

Speaker 5 (39:24):
But you're saying blending where the where the Affliction T shirt?

Speaker 6 (39:28):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
He looks trying to fit in. He's got his jeans
on and.

Speaker 6 (39:33):
Take the I'll take the I think I'm more right
than you. I don't think you.

Speaker 5 (39:36):
Are being nice because you love Craig and so do we.
But if Linda Gordon showed up at Bourbon and Beyond
and that you'd be good with.

Speaker 8 (39:44):
Oh, I'd buyer a tall beer and we get what
would you wear to Bourbon and beyond? I need to know.
I don't know what to wear. Am I not allowed
to wear my affliction?

Speaker 5 (39:56):
Sure?

Speaker 6 (39:56):
The reason I don't go is I wouldn't know what.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
In a T shirt?

Speaker 5 (40:01):
In short, I would probably wear some form of a
long sleeve hoodie T shirt and shorts or jean. I
probably wear jeans since it's like a con. But I
can tell you I would not pull out an affliction
T shirt.

Speaker 8 (40:13):
He is wearing some some Dad tennis shoes and Dad
jeans with his Affliction T shirt. But he's just he's trying.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
He's rocking, all right, That's fine. He's got Shandon's approval.
Shandon's the expert out there at Larger than Life. Who's next,
Sam Sam? Go ahead, Sam Sam?

Speaker 13 (40:30):
Hey man, I agree with you. Always thought they were
called power strikers anyway. Second thing is, my daughter does
a lot of those. My daughter does a lot of
those trips with her friends and stuff. And about two
years ago she was in Zimbabwe for a safari. She
calls me and we video text and she's woke up
in the middle of the night because they're camping and
doing the overnight and there's like a hundred zebras outside

(40:51):
the tents and they're making a lot of noise with
gas and other things. You know, just being the kind
of the man you are, You comfortable sleeping in a
tent with a hundred zebras around you?

Speaker 5 (41:03):
No, but you know what part of it is like
getting out of your comfort zone. You know, you only
live once, So I mean, I appreciate the call. There's
a big world.

Speaker 6 (41:13):
I'm blessed enough to get a chance to do it.

Speaker 5 (41:15):
I mean I would I just choose on my own
to go to South Africa during football season. Probably not,
But then this fellowship came. This is where the meeting is.
Originally it was supposed to be in Israel. I'd rather
go to South Africa right now than Israel, so you know,
so I'm going, and it's'll be odd because I don't know,

(41:38):
I'll probably never go there again, so might as well.

Speaker 6 (41:41):
You know, I'm a big believer.

Speaker 5 (41:43):
Whatever it is, like, as long as you're not hurting anybody,
give it a shot.

Speaker 6 (41:49):
We only are around this place one time.

Speaker 5 (41:51):
It's a huge world out there, and most people are
don't get a chance to do any of it, and
so if you can, you should. And if I end
up happened to hang out with a zebra, then Ryan,
I'll hang out with zebra.

Speaker 6 (42:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (42:04):
I'll put on my stripes, we'll race. I'll take an
ambient and tell him I can beat him on a spring.

Speaker 7 (42:09):
Why you've got ten of the ladies to protect you
when you're there in that area and your in your tent.

Speaker 6 (42:15):
Yeah. They're great, very chatty, chanting in the group chats.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
Very chat chime in every now and then.

Speaker 6 (42:20):
I don't chime in.

Speaker 5 (42:21):
I don't chime They're very upset because one person hasn't
joined the group chat, and I'm like, can you just
let them be?

Speaker 6 (42:26):
We don't even know each other yet. There may be
a little chatty for me in the group chat. We'll
be right back. Hour two.
