Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio, present it
by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
All right, Welcome back Hour number two Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan Shannon, Dude and Super Mario here live in Mount Vernon,
Kentucky Main Street. Mount Vernon is the Christian Appalachian Project.
Has there a hunger walk today? They just had the
hunder Walk went down Main Street and joined us now
to talk a little bit about the Christian Appalachian Project.
Is Guy Adams to the President. I was kind of
impressive to see thirteen hundred people, mainly students, kind of
(01:15):
participating in the Hunger Walk to help raise money and
awareness for your organization.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
You don't often see that type of youth involvement, and
that they learn and understand the challenges of food and
security at this age. That's something they will carry with
them the rest of their life.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Well, because the one stat that we all talked about
where you gave us one out of five children go
to bed hungry every night in our Appalachia, in our
own state. So you've got kids out here helping Feller
or their fellow kids.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yes, And we have food three food pantries, and then
we've got a partnership food pantry in Magoffin County.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
So you've served just says here, six hundred and fifty
three thousand pounds of food, served eleven thousand participants in need,
and repaired or rebuilt two hundred and seventy six homes.
Talk about how this thing started and how it had
sort of evolved over the years and grown into what
it is now.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
It's interesting, you know, you don't think of a Catholic
parish priest with some of the attributes of our founder
father Biting. But he came here and as a young seminarian,
was sent to Appalachia and he was then placed at
Saint Clair Catholic Church. He started in Berea, and Berea
(02:29):
had more Catholics than most of our communities. He started
with eight Catholics. Because I asked him back in the eighties,
you mean eight Catholic families? He said, no, eight Catholics.
But he would go out two weeks every summer, put
a loud speaker on his car, hook it to the
battery or if someone was nice enough to let him,
(02:49):
plug it in their outlet, and he would street preach.
And you don't think of Catholic parish priests doing that,
but he would do that, and he would share the
Gospel with folks. And so he was more concerned, yes,
with his parish and shepherding his own flock, but he
was concerned about all everybody's relationship with God through Jesus Christ,
(03:16):
and so that was kind of an unusual thing. But
in doing that he learned the challenges and you know,
when you're a preacher, priest, nune, whoever you are, when
you start helping people, more people come. And so he
just learned that there needed to be in time an
official organization serving people in Eden.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Appolatic started, Yeah, that's right. Wow.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
When I worked for CAP in the eighties, we were
raising about five and a half six million dollars a year,
and this year we just went over forty million dollars.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Wow. That yeah, to fund our budget. So that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Someone said, I wish he could see us now. I said, oh,
he knows.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
He knows.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
What's what do you have planned next?
Speaker 5 (04:02):
Because obviously, like this is a big thing for you guys,
what you guys are doing, you know, having these kids
come out here and you know, try to fight hunger,
fight the strong fight of hunger. What's the next big
thing for you guys, you know in this in terms
of in this whole big picture thing for you.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Well, we took over in the last six months or
so the food pantry in Jackson County mckeeth, and we
will have a groundbreaking tomorrow for a new building that
will look very much like our facility here in Mount
Vernon because they're working out of a house that couldn't
be bigger than this tent. Wow, it's covering. And so
(04:41):
we're going to build a real facility there on property
that we secured from the city. It's on high ground.
You never want in eastern Kentucky to be low ground
in flood flood, right, yes, and so that's what we're
going to be doing. But you mentioned the houses. Home
repair is our single biggest program, and we do two
(05:05):
hundred and fifty to three hundred homes every year in
several counties in eastern Kentucky, including Brockcastle County for people
that live in substandard housing. You know, they just are
not secure in their own homes, and we do that
with them, and we invite them to have a little
sweat equity and help us wherever they can, if they've
(05:29):
got some carpentry skills, or if they're just a gopher
and they can bring us that's me.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I'm a gopher. I can't build anything.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
I could go. I'll go hand you this piece of water.
Here they go. Yeah. So people can go to christianapp
dot org, help your organization, help donate, help with the
Hunger Walk today. So thank you for having us down.
Thanks for joining us, and.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
It's a great partnership. We appreciate KSR and your listeners
KSR and it's just a great partnership.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
If they're here in this area, we're best place to
donate and bring food.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Like is there a specific our.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Food pantry on the main drag on twenty five just
past for Renfro Valley. You'll see it down on the
left if you're going toward Borea.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah right, okay, thank you guys. I appreciated me. The
president of Christian APPLASTI project. The reason we're today, they're
a hunger walk. They're fighting hunger, feeding people one step
at a time, and they did it today with the
Hunger Walk. So kind of wanted to get the word
out what this organization does and how they help each other.
All right, time to draw another question.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
All right, let's see, Yeah, all right, is it I
turned here?
Speaker 1 (06:31):
All right, turn that one down. Here we go. Next question.
This is for Ryan. Oh, it's for me.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Did a yoga girl get some birthday loving? Already before
you answer, we already know the answer.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Before you answer, remember you own radio.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah, I tell you how our life works. We go
to Rodney's Last Night had a great dinner. Yeah, then
after you had big dinner, you kind of got to
sit and rest for about an hour to let your dinner.
Then I realized, I need to go let my dogs out.
Left her to go, left just to go let my
dogs out. Came back. Then you gotta watch TV for
(07:09):
another hour. I mean that's just how old people operate,
you know. You gotta let you know you can't.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
That's the build up to it. That is the build
up to it. Yeah, that's that's that's the Netflix before
the chill. Yeah, so that's how it goes. But yeah,
her birthday was yesterday. Kelly's here, Kelly's birthday after day,
Kelly today, twenty nine years old. Today, Kelly just got
her Louder than Life shirt on, and then Super Mario's
birthday is tomorrow. About that, are you gonna be thirty?
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Age that? Okay, don't say it, because that's gonna be
part of our question to give away the tickets later,
all right, So keep that secret.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
I think we kind of just alluded to he's not thirty.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Uh we mentioned rock Castle County. We're talking some frock
Rockcastle County football during the commercial break, you know, back
in the day, rock Castle County went to back to
back state title games. It just so happened they ran
into Boyle County both times. When Boyle County won five
titles in a row, but rock Castle County went two
years in a row. I remember Aaron Anderkin was their quarterback.
(08:09):
Uh that Jason Leeger who ended up playing at Kentucky.
Brad Durham ended up playing at Kentucky. And they've produced
some good football talent down here. But the one I
remember is the best athlete I can remember, Sarah Hammond's.
She was missed basketball. She was Kentucky McDonald's All America
nowt of Kentucky American. She was a McDonald's All American.
And then she went on to play at Louisville. She
was coaching at Cumberland's. Is she still coaching at Cumberland's
(08:31):
assistant coach or something. We got some Jackson County.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Guys personas says I think she is.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Uh, we don't know, but yeah, we these three guys
from Jackson County skipping class today at Cumberland. They're all
three Cumberland students skipping class. They're going to learn more
here than now.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Of course, you don't learn about you and yoga girl
last night, teach them about the birds and the bees.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Here. You've already warned me once. I can't say it again.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Said, yeah, we've already got too many of those, too
many of those, all right?
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Eight five nine two o two tweets seven. That's our
Clarks pumping shot. Phone room. If you want to call
and get on board, we do. We mentioned got the
NFL tonight, the Bills and the Dolphins. Dolphins may we
got to make any of our draft Kings picks right now.
And kind of who do you? Who do you like tonight? Uh?
Speaker 4 (09:16):
I'm going with the Bills. You know I'm going with
the Bills.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Well, the Bills are loaded with Kentucky guys, right, thank
you guys, man Ray Davis, Maxwell Harrison, Dion Walker all
with the Buffalo Bills. So you're runing with the Bills tonight.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
We go with the Bills.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Okay, the Bills are a twelve and a half point favorite.
Does that change your mind? Are you gonna take the
point spread or you're just taking the Bills straight up
because you're not gonna make much money. Our draft Kings
with minus.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Nine safe from the safe legs from the safe legs.
So I'm keeping it up to you guys.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Okay, well it's at Buffalo. Yeah, that makes a difference.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I actually would take Buffalo in the twelve and a half. Yeah,
I think they're gonna smoke the Dolphins today.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
I think the Buffalo Bills maybe win the Super Bowl
this year.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
I think the team they are, yeah, I mean I
can see. I can see Bills and Packers in the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
I got the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I'm just gonna go on record right now, Bills Packers
super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
You know, if this game was in November December, it's cold,
Miami's got to come up from nice, warm Miami and
go to Buffalo. But it's not it's in September. Does
Miami have a fighting chance at all? Just because it's
not gonna be one of those cold Buffalo snowy type games.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
I'm going with the Bills, man. I'm confident with the Bills.
Covering stick stick with my Kentucky guys. Yeah, cover There
you go.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
There's your DraftKings pick of the day.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Spaced out right now, go out with Mario, ride with him.
Because Shannon's pick is usually wrong.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
My pick is usually you and I equally had really
bad picks on the KSR parland, which, by the way,
we gotta do a KSR parlay.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
I gotta do tomorrow, and it's just gonna be the
three of us. Well, Jeff Correls do one. Might be
back as well if Drew's not back, but we've got
to win one while Matt's gone. We can't hit one.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
If we stop picking bad picks, we would win the parlay.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I had the good pick until the South Carolina quarterback
got hurt. First week. Yeah, I had the one pick
that didn't hit. First week we all won. Okay, I'm
sorry sorry.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Second week had the one pick that didn't hit correct,
could have had back to back KSR partly correct. But
then you know you always, you're always throwing a stinker.
So we get a fade. Your pick, pick all the
other picks. Now, one more thing, we'll go to the break.
Eleven years ago, we did a show in London and
we had basketball tickets to give away. The winner of
(11:20):
the basketball tickets UK Basketball tickets eleven years ago was
a three month old baby. How did she sign up?
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Well, she signed her name on the piece of paper.
I guess pulled her name out baby three months old.
Her name was Miles Mahefi. Okay, she just was one
of the girls that walked behind us. She's eleven now,
eleven years old, one of the students that just walked
behind us in the Apple Apple Acchian Hunt Project Hunger Walk.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
So she grew up.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
I think that's kind of cool. So I remember that.
I remember this baby winning the tickets, youngest person to
ever win tickets. Here on KSR, we're trying to remember
if you were even at that show. It was out,
it was in London, had a Sporting Goods or Lows
Sporting Goods.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Don't remember that, but uh, I can't even.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Eleven years a long long time.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Yeah, we couldn't even remember going through Kearney, Nebraska last year,
so I doubt that I remember.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
What I remember bout that show. We had to do
the first segment on the phone because traffic, once again
in Mount Vernon, was backed up. We got to the
show late, so Matt had to do the first segment
with Tony Benetti. Matt was on the phone, Benetti was
in the studio.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Back into Louisville, the good old early days of KSR.
If those podcasts still exist, go back and listen, listen
to those shows.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Yeah, all right, well take our break, we'll come back.
We'll go to the phone lines eight five nine two
O two two eight seven. It's the Clarks Pumpy Shop
phone and we're right back. This is can theek you
sports Radio. All right, welcome back, can take a sports radio.
Ryan Shannon and Mario here live in Mount Vernon on
Main Street at Community Trust Bank. A proud supporter of
the Christian Apple election project, Hunger walked that they had
earlier today they had four walks across the state. Uh,
(12:50):
they had the one here in Rockcastle County, they had
one McCurry County, Jackson County and one in Lexington today.
So we're helping get the word out. You go to
Christian app dot org if you want to contribute to
hell and he'll learn more about the program what they do. Uh.
I do need to make a correction, I said, Sidney
McLoughlin had the American record now in the four hundred
and the foreign and hurdles is a world world record.
(13:11):
That's right. Yeah, she broke her own world record last night,
so I know you give her round applause. That's just
that's amazing. Like I said, it's it's just she's she's young.
I mean a lot of sprinters kind of get better
when they get in like their thirties. It seems like
so she's gonna just get big, better and better.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Prime.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Not in her prime yet. All right, just go back
to the bowl. I was just gonna ask one question
a segment. Do you think we need to get to
all these No.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
It's up to you, man, it's it's your show.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
You tell me.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I just thought there's gonna be a lot of unanswered
questions if we don't get to everybody's.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
All right, all right, what's this question out of somebody
from here in the audience?
Speaker 4 (13:45):
How many losses for UK basketball this season?
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Like that? How many losses for UK basketball this season?
That's good? Uh, you know with their non conference schedule
of Louisville, Michigan State, Saint John's, Gonzaga, Indiana, and then
but the SEC may not be as strong as it
was last year. So what are you? What are your thoughts? Mario?
You're the our basketball guy.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
I'm gonna say five, I say five losses.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
I got us beating Louisville, I got us beating North Carolina.
I don't losses. I don't know if we'll be able
to beat Gonzaga. That's a neutral section in Nashville. Yeah,
I don't know about that, dude. Like I said, I'm
probably gonna go five. That's my that's my lucky number five.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Losses, Shannon, I'm gonna go six. I think they'll probably
first of all, let's go to the SEC. There's always
a game every year, doesn't matter how good they are,
where they go on the road and they drop a
game you don't expect ye.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
On a Tuesday night, Yeah, on the road.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
So I think they'll probably go into the SEC with
two losses, and I think they'll probably drop, you know, again,
a loss that you don't expect them to get.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Who's your two losses, Shannon.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Who's the two non conference I mean, if it.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Could be any combination of these teams, I don't know
exactly who I would have them lose to. But I
mean there's a good non conference schedule that Mark Pope
has put together, one of the best ones. I think
we've seen it in a long time. And I think
Gonzaga is gonna be tough in Nashville. They still have
that big fella. And then and then Saint John's I think,
is gonna be really tough too. That's the game we're
(15:14):
going to.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Saint John's game probably scares me the most out of
the non conference game.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
That's gonna be an exciting game though, Bright Hopkins. He's
gonna be playing against his former team, Rick Patino. That's
gonna be a good one.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
So let's call it Gonzaga and Saint John's non conference
loss losses. And then I mean any combination of teams
in the SEC. I don't I don't know exactly who
they're gonna lose to, but I think I think six
bills about right.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Well. The one SEC game that I feel like I'm
gonna be wanting to win the most is at Arkansas.
Oh yeah, I mean I have to win. Cal Perry
just beat you at Ropernas first year. Now you're going
to his house. But Arkansas is gonna be really, really good.
He got most of those guys back, right, Carter Knox
is back, Billy Richmond's back.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Good freshman too coming in.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Yeah right. Bookie left and went to Florida. To Florida.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
That's what I'm worried about. Yeah, Florida.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
I think Florida's gonna be good. We got Aberdeen though,
So yeah, Arkansas is gonna be good. Alabama is not
as good as they have been, but they're gonna be good.
Tennessee after good.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Player to you about to so we're just poaching guys
off the best SEC teams, all right?
Speaker 1 (16:17):
To pull another question out of the other bowl here
from somebody in the audience, how bad was Wes Roberts
at baseball Kentucky westlen College. I know who sent that one.
That's his son right there, Jacob Roverbs. Wes Roberts was
one of my best friends in college. I was in
his wedding. He was in my wedding. Uh. He was
a great baseball player. Actually he started four years. I
mean he walked in ato the freshman and started. So
you definitely got all your baseball skills from your mama.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Here's the one thing people forget about Ryan and you
were talking about wanting to see Ryan run back in
his day. Ryan was actually really fast, was he He's
the all time stolen based leader at Kentucky Wesleyan.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I can't see him meaning, I know you see the
calves though his calf muscles.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Are you like his calf muscles. But it's a record
that will never be broken. You don't think it will
ever be broken, never be broken. How many stole basis did?
Speaker 2 (17:05):
You're talking about single season or just careers?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I have it. Stole based in a game, stolen bases
in the season, stole bases in a career.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Give me the numbers because I know you have them
in your head.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Stolen bases of the game was five. That's pretty impressive
against your Lindsey Wilson Raiders. Wow. Uh, Stole basing the
season I think was forty one, all right? And then
a career. I think it's one hundred and six because
it's on my my shoes.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
You have it on your shoes.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Well, my my Monarchs, that your true Blue customs guy
made for me. I think he's got one hundred. Yeah, Billy,
I'm there. So all right, eight five, nine, two two,
two weeks. Then there is one topic that we do
need to kind of discuss because it's like the number
one news topic. This is nearly not the show for it,
but we have to least acknowledge it. ABC pulled Jimmy
(17:48):
Kimmel off the air his entire show, not just him,
his entire show got pulled off the air for comments
he made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Whether you
agree with what he said or no, that's not the debate.
The debate that I want to have with you guys
is should they have pulled him off the air And if, like,
if we say something like that, we can get pulled
(18:09):
off the air. Matt got pulled off the air when
he was thinking about running against Mitch McConnell. They called
complained that and our bosses pulled him off the air.
It happens they've pulled the whole.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Show off the air and they're not coming back up indefinitely.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
I think that there was they suspended indefinitely, Robbie.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
It's a tough call for ABC because they've got to
look at their advertisers and and remember, like, when you're
on a show, the advertisers are you know, what you
say as a reflection to what they believe a lot
of times, right, So if advertisers are wanting to pull
their sponsorship, it's going to hurt the company of ABC overall.
It's going to hurt the Jimmy Kimmel Show. And I
(18:49):
don't even know what he said.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
I guess that'd be pretty egregious if if they were
willing to pull him off the air. So, I mean
it's a tough call.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
You know.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
You say you have freedom of speed, but you don't
have freedom of speech when it comes to consequences, Right,
There's gonna be consequences, consequences for things that you say.
So if ABC feels like it's the right call, then
I mean, who am I to say that ABC made
the wrong call and pulling them off the air. I
just don't know why we get to the point to where,
regardless of what you think about somebody politically, you can't.
I mean, we're talking about somebody who lost a life, right,
(19:21):
a guy who was a husband, who was a father,
And I don't think that's anything to joke about. So
I don't know what he said, but obviously it was
bad enough for ABC to pull him off the air.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
And you, I mean, you.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Got to be held responsible for what you say, especially
somebody on TV or radio or whatever it may be.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Yeah, that's a very sensitive topic. But I don't know what.
Like I said, I didn't, I didn't see it.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
I didn't see that I heard it was something like
a joke like Jim Jim made kind of like a joke,
but I didn't see it sensitive topic.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
I do understand why they took him off. It's a business.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
At the end of the day, you gotta protect your business.
But other than that, man, that's just that's just kind
of how it is. You got to be here.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
From what you say, Well, what do you think about it?
I uh, this is my thoughts about it. It is
very sensitive topic. Yep. If ABC wants to pull him
off the air, I can totally see it. But the
fact they pulled his whole show off the air, that's
the guys behind the scenes, the camera guys, the producers,
the directors. I understand that guy like my son that
sets up lights and cables and microphones and people. I mean,
(20:21):
are those people now not gonna have a paycheck because
of something that he said.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I think the problem is with his name being associated
with the show. Yeah, I think that has a lot
to do with it as well.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Do you think it's a situation where maybe some sponsors
advertisers said hey, we're pulling our money. Probably so and
to save but save that income, they probably said, Okay,
we'll just pull him off the air. We'll just take
him off the air. Don't pull your money away. I
can kind of see that kind of happening behind the scenes,
don't you.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Absolutely, yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
I mean if you say something on the air, again,
it's just a reflection of your advertisers, and if they're
not if they don't like what you say, they can
pull their money. They have the right to do that.
And if ABC is seeing that and they've got to
take action.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Well, again, we're not here to discuss right or wrong
what he says. It's very sensitive topic and it was
awful what happened.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
To Charles too.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Nothing to joke about at all. So I thought the
debate we could have today was whether it was the
right decision by ABC.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
I see what you're saying, because yeah, I mean, it
also takes the job away from all the other people.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Nothing to do with a ton of people work on
the Jimmy Kimmel Show behind the scene. Are those people
now without a paycheck because of something that he said?
You know?
Speaker 2 (21:30):
But I think you know you have to understand going
into that job, that's what you're signing up for.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
You know.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Again, he's a reflection of everybody else that works there.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
That's true two two eight seven. That's our cort's publish
oot phone number. We mentioned that we were here in
Mount Vernon years ago. It's Marcellus Marcellus farmed a Fork restaurant,
and the county attorney that sponsored our show was just
here while to go Jeremy Rowe. But apparently they got
word out to Marcella's restaurant. Now they're bringing us lunch.
(22:00):
All right. I remember that show we did out there
was a nice little kind of a country cooking place.
And they're gonna bring us lunch out here. That is
very much nice.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
I very much appreciate that because I've got to hop
in the car and drive right back to Louisville and
go right to Louder than Life for the next starts tonight. Yeah,
it starts today and it's four straight days and it
is insanity out there.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Are you excited?
Speaker 2 (22:21):
I am always look forward to it. One of my
favorite weeks of the year. There's over one hundred and
seventy five bands and will be there. It looks like
the weather is going to weather cooperate with us this year.
We got one year or one day that got ringed
out last year, so everything looks good. And looking forward
to it. I've tried to get Ryan to come with
me during the pre show. He wouldn't agree to do
that because he's got to go to Nebraska to watch
Dane Key this weekend.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
I am flying to Nebraska to watch Nebraska host Michigan
on Saturday. Dane has had three games, three touchdowns. That's
all I'm gonna say. All right, well, take our break,
come back. This is Connect's Ports Radio eight five nine
two eight oh two two eight seven, Ryan super Mario
and Shannon the Dude. We'll be right back. TJ Smith
personal injury attorney, call TJ. He'll make them pay.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back, Matt over in
South Africa. So oh about not hit it?
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Don't hit it, Ryan, leave it alone.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
They don't bother me. He's just trying to make some honey.
That's why I was sniffing my arm pit. Hey, stop
paying for sunglasses. Are you tired of buying expensive sunglasses
only to lose them, break them? Well wait a minute, yeah,
she's spy only to lose them, break them, break them
or worse. You never even wear them because you don't
(23:37):
want to get them dirty. Well, you need shady rays.
Shady Raise is an independent American owned company that started
right here in Kentucky. Shady Rais has premium polarized shades
for every activity running, fishing, biking, golfing, you name it.

(23:58):
production program in the industry with lost and broken replacements.
So taking your next adventure team that has your back
that is Shady Raised. A five nine two eight two
two eighty seven. Okay, apparently the phone lines are loaded.
Wonder why any indication of what happened on the Avies
and Glass text machine. It's all about Jimmy Kimmel. Yeah,
we'll go through the calls, but we're not here to
debate what he said. That's we can't that. There are
(24:20):
other shows for that. If you want to discuss about oh,
we'll just kind of have to play it by your Here,
I'm afraid we're about to open up a box of worm,
Box and worm then we may not get out of
let's let's let's let's tiptoe in and get a call
and see who we got Box Jake and Hickory.
Speaker 6 (24:38):
Go ahead, Jake, Thank you Liam for taking a call. Hey,
go ahead, Jake, Ryan, Ryan, Hey, Ryan, do you know
what that game is going to be on and to
now on w l A P.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
About the volleyball game. Yes, let's check on that because
I don't know if it's gonna be carried on w
A P or not. I know it's on the ESPN U,
ESPN U, Jake, but we'll we'll double check on that,
all right, Just keep listening and we'll announce when we
find out. Yes, sir, Okay, thank you Jake. We appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
All right.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
We got through one call. That was a good one. Liam.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I got nervous when we get on topics that you know,
this is when we need Matt.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
This is when Matt is at his best in a
situation like this. So who's next? Who's next?
Speaker 2 (25:31):
This is when you are your best? Your best?
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Go ahead, and Liam, who's next? Robin Lawrenceburg go ahead?
Speaker 7 (25:41):
Yes, sir, you'all keep talking about Mark Stoops leaving the program.
One thing I had thought about, can you demote? Can
Barnhart demote Stoops to a lesser place on the team,
such as assistant defensive coordinator. And if they was to
(26:02):
do that, you know, Stoop's ego would force him to
move on and move on and you could hire a
another coach.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Appreciate the phone call. Okay, okay, go ahead, okay, go ahead,
all right, appreciate the phone call. Thank you. That's not
gonna happen. No, Stoops is not gonna be demoted contract
to be the head coach, to be the head coach
it has that just is not gonna happen. And if
they kind of falter this year, it's a serious conversation.
(26:34):
I think they're gonna have to have where the program
heads from here. They have another four win season, back
to back four win seasons, and the schedule is not
getting easier next year.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Uh, I don't know if that's not gonna happen. Matt
has kind of already said, you know, the next coach
is probably gonna be John Shamroll Sumraw or Brad White.
Those are the two leading candidates. If something happened right now,
Stoops could turn it around. Win a couple of games,
still be here for several years. Who knows how we're
gonna play out.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
And that would be weird, Like if you got de
Moone and and he stays here, Like, wouldn't that be weird?
Speaker 1 (27:02):
That that's not gonna happen. That's never happened anywhere. It's
not gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
I do have an update. I believe the UK versus
Louisville volleyball game should be on UK Sports Network. So
I'm guessing the w l a P it should have.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
It should carry the game tonight. Correct, Okay, so just
tune in the nine if not, even go on line,
I'm sure and find it. All right, Shannon, pick out
another question? All right? The question is got five or
six more? Ryan?
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Do you believe Jimmy Kimmel should have been fired?
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Now? This is why I have to work with every day.
That's why he's my boy.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
No, here it is, this is in bobbing Charlie Kirk.
Do you feel the text messages in Charlie Kirk's murder
case or fake?
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Did you just make that up? Read it right there?
I don't even know what they're talking about.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
I don't know what the text messages between Charlie Kirk
and his roommate. I believe is what the question is
some people saying that they're the whole transcript. I mean, look,
there there's people out there saying that everything's fake. There's
probably people here that think you're fake, you know what
I mean?
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Well, with AI now, it's easy to fay all kind
of stuff online.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
So I guess you don't want to go through and
answer that question. I can't answer because.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
All right, all right, the next question, can I go
to Louder Than Life with Shannon who asked that there?
Speaker 1 (28:15):
We got there. We're giving away tickets, We're good way
tickets at the end of the show.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
How many people would actually go to Louder Than Life?
Speaker 1 (28:22):
That?
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Okay, Okay, I want to say, just give them to him,
but we've got a few other people.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Yeah, I have to win the honest contest.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Alright, what's going to be I was ready.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
I can't tell you.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
I was ready to just give him Louder Than Life
as tickets. You don't have tickets, Okay, he's got the
shirt on the ticket. If we had three, we could
just give them at all three and just tell them
to go. Yeah, that's another question out of the book.
You don't want to go back to the phone, Ryan,
when we're two for two, maybe we should quit.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
My way ahead?
Speaker 4 (28:51):
What who is your least favorite caller?
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Is that really the question?
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Who is your least favorite caller? And by the way,
you said we would would answer these questions. You said
we would who's your least favorite call Anybody calling about
the Jimmy Kimmel thing right now? Probably that's true. You know,
I do like I do like Jay Rock No, no, no, no, Lea.
I'm going through my favorites to see it was my
least favorite caller.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Uh, the truth. You don't like the truth because he
makes fun of me every time he calls calls me
Brian Lemon and uh.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Easy one for me. We don't even take his calls anymore.
But he used to call in as a c oh
yeah yeah, yeah. He hasn't called in and forever. That's
because I don't let him on the on the show anymore.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Who's the caller that really talks fast? On game days?
He comes with Lotis Otis.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
He's great. Now, I love Otis to take a breath.
He's a great caller. So uh, I kind of think
of it there anymore.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
We used to get no Matt hates uh Bob and Jamestown, that.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
He doesn't hate Bob and Jamestown.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
I like. I like Bob and Jamestown. I like these
calls a lot of time.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
I will say this, when Bob and James on calls,
we get more reaction on the text line and on
social media then probably I would say any other caller.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
You know, John Short calls the pre show, he calls
the pregame show. He hasn't called us in forever.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
I think I don't know. I mean, I think maybe
the pre show is taken over John Short.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
No doubt whose favorite show is. So uh, don't forget.
We got the Thursday night football to night at Cast
Bar and Grill. I'm gonna be there. We got some
we got some stuff to give away to be kind
of a fun little man. We had a good crowd
last Thursday night. Great crowd actually was you were giving
happy birthday shout out. If your birthday party, bring them on.
You know, we'll give you a little birthday shout out
and have a little shot with you. So uh we
coming out. Let's try one more call. I think we're
(30:42):
one more call for we go to break. So who
we got? Liam? Bill? Bill? Go ahead, Bill.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Bill's definitely calling about Kimmel.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Bill, are you there?
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Appreciate the call?
Speaker 1 (30:55):
All right, Bill, We'll take another one. Liam.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Who we got Noah?
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Noah? Go ahead?
Speaker 7 (31:02):
Noah, Hey, Ryan, I got I love you guys, But
why you guys got a name? Got me like you
did yesterday?
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Oh this is Noah dollar wing Noah? Oh, no boy,
and thought he could buy ten wings for a dollar. No,
it's a dollar a wing. No I thought, Matt already
out of Noah.
Speaker 7 (31:23):
Yeah, part of my dignity, or I love part of
d would have happened. But you know, they keep on
making fun of me.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
I just well, Ryots is piling on at this point.
I agree with you. Noah.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
He should keep your name out of his mouth and
stop talking about the fact that you thought that you
could get ten wings for a dollar.
Speaker 7 (31:41):
I was, yeah, I will say I will say either
that or if you're gonna use my name, then give
me a night or I do get to have ten.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Wings they have? Noah, good, try so appreciate it. Thanks
for calling. No one was at our remote we had
out there at uh Clark's Puppet Shop did the touchdown
dance for a twenty five dollars gift card. That's right.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
We found out people will lose their clothing just to get.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
Twenty dollars card. So all right, we'll take our last break,
come back, our last segment, give away a couple of tickets.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Still got a few questions and all this.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Look Marcello's just brought us lunch. Oh yeah, Marcella's how
about that? Thank you. We'll take a break, come back.
One more segment, Togo. This is Take a Sports Radio.
Great song, Liam, welcome back, Take a Sports Radio. Ryan Shann,
the dude in Super Mario, really do love this song.
I played this a couple of days ago and I
love it action. It's awesome. It because it reminds me
(32:34):
of my high school and college era in the eighties.
It's just perfect. So who's the segment? Sponsored by Shame.

We talked about our manor DraftKings pick for the Bill,
Bills and Dolphins Tonight big game tomorrow night, rock Castle
County hosting Madison Southern right here at the Rock, their
new stadium. Who are you picking? In your the big
Draft Kings picking the night for tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Rock Castle, Let's go.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Of course you go on rock Castle County. You have
to got to play to the home field. But they
got a new stadium. They have a big rock like
it's a monster rock. It's like them. Do they have
a chain on it? A meteor? Yeah, they did have
a chain. I'm sure that rock doesn't roll away. But
do the guys still come out and putch it when
they come out of the locker room. Everybody has to
touch that rock walk out on the field. So all right,
we have three questions left from our viewers. Here my turn.
(34:07):
All right, we'll try to get all three of these
before we get out of here. Here's the next one
favorite athlete all time.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
That's a good question, and it's yeah, I'm just thinking
about his more recent things that have happened to him.
Probably not the greatest name in the list, but for
me it's Brett Farv just growing up being a Packers
fans watching him.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
He was an most.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Unorthodox quarterback I've ever seen, but like a tough, gritty
guy that led the Packers to a Super Bowl guy
that I obviously, even though I didn't play football. Grew
up loving to watch the way he played the game.
So for me, it's Brett farv al Rio.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
I'm gonna say Lebron James.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
That's not Bronni, No, not Bron Lebron, Lebron.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
The senior Lebron James. Yeah, grew up watching him. It's
kind of you know, a big basketball guy. Got to
watch him do his thing.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
My favorite athlete growing up was Lou Brock, Cardinal outfielders.
Speech had the stolen based record. I was going to
be the next Lou Brock. If you ask me my
favorite athlete, I mean I got to pick probably Dante
Key and Freddie Maggard. Oh really yeah all the time, yeah,
because your buddy is with them. Or of course, by
the way, I just talked to Freddy the other day.
He's doing fine. People ask all the time, how's Freddy doing.
(35:17):
He's doing fine. You know, he's got some issues he's
still dealing with, but he's he's doing fine. Here's the
thing that's kind of crazy. It's like he has detached
himself from football. He's like, man, I just don't watch
it anymore. Really, yeah, I doesn't even watch then even
watch the games anymore. So oh, and he loves football,
but he knows people kind of reach out and talk
to him. And then when everybody knows he's doing great,
and he says, since he's love and he appreciate everybody's
(35:38):
asking about him.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Before we go to the next question here, you know
you brought up the Cardinals. Your Cardinals lost last night
to the Reds, and the Reds are just hanging on
by a thread. They are still in the race, only
two games back with ten to go. And I'm just
saying your Cardinals may be contributing to the Reds getting
into the playoffs if they actually do.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Yeah, the Reds actually won the series with the Cardinals. Well,
the Cardinals won the Sea In series this last series.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Where what I'm just saying right now, though your Cardinals
aren't you know, if you're trying to keep the Reds
out of the playoffs, that they didn't do it very good.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
No, they shoot didn't. So I think the other Reds
or two back Cardinal's like four or four and a
half back now, So yeah, I wasn't happy. My dad
was definitely not happy.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
He pull out one morning, all right, most crazy Ryan
Lemon story.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
It's a good question.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Was crazy.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Ryan Lemon's story.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
We told about me dropping them my sausage McMuffin in
my lap this morning. Said about my speed ticket I
got yesterday. You said I almost killed you and we
were driving in Cincinnati. I mean that pretty much covers everything.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Well, I mean there, I wasn't there, But I feel
like the time you almost got shot in a Rooster's
parking lot, that's had a lot to do with it.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Matt actually saved the day. Matt was mister calm and
cool that day. Yeah, because this guy you almost got hit.
We were in a parking lot. Well, to get into
the parking lot, I kind of cut him off. I
realized there's the Rooster's room. I wheeled in. I kind
of cut him off. He decides to pull in behind
me and Gunny's car like he's gonna run me down
(37:03):
in the Woosters parking line. So when he went by me,
I smacked his car. You did not I did. He
was flying by me and I smacked his car and
he knew boy. So he slammed on the brake, stopped,
pulled a gun out. Oh wow, and I heard click
click you go. That's the goody he get shot around here. Boy,
then did you? And then I hear Matt out of nowhere,
hold on on, my man, my man, Ryan, you go inside,
(37:25):
my man, my man. So he actually diffused the situation
Matt did. I gotta to give him credit for that one.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
He's good at that.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
I would say that's probably the craziest Ryan Lemon story
I could think of. Yeah, is there another one?
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Well, there's the day you and I and Sarah and
Yoga Girl were sitting on a swing in Panama City
Beach screaming and hollering and waking people up in the
hotel behind us.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
It's not that crazy, Yeah, screaming and hollering.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Yeah, it got pretty loud, pretty loud there. Yeah, there's
something we don't need to talk about here. Pull out
the last question.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Okay, let's see what we got here. What should mari
would do for his birthday? I hate this question? Whoever hit?
What Mario do for his birthday? Tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (38:05):
You should come to work and you're gonna show with us.
You're gonna started Wild Eggs. Do the show Wild Eggs
in the morning for your birthday?
Speaker 5 (38:11):
Yeah, and then the rest of the day I'm gonna work.
And then after that, I don't know what I'll do.
I'll have to figure that out.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
It came a perfect time for you because the Kentucky's
off this weekend. You whole weekend to do your birthday celebration.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
I do like to travel. I don't know I would
go to Chicago. I've been there, you know, a few times.
But I know a lot's going on in Chicago right now,
So I don't know. Man, I'm still thinking about it,
even though it's tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
You going, but you're stay in Kentucky. You're going back
to Florida.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
No, I'm not going, man, I'm saying, staying in Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Yeah, well sounds like a fun birthday. Yeah, you can
join me. I'm gonna be allouder in the life. I can't.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
I try to get you to join me out there.
You didn't want to come out there.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
I've seen the videos you showed me this morning, and
I think I'm gonna pass. I mean, come on, really,
not my kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Big change, perfectly, big changes coming to high school basketball
in Kentucky in two years out, Tom, Kentucky's gonna put
in a shot clock for high school basketball. Now, Tom, obviously,
the game has evolved the college game has evolved, the
NBA is involved evolved, the high school game has evolved.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Are we like the one of the last states to
do it? I know California has it.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I really don't know. I don't know how many states
actually have a shot clock, but Kentucky and starting with
a twenty seven twenty eight seasons so two seasons from now,
will put in the shot clock. Your thoughts. I love it.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
The team can't just hold the ball now like a
lot of the high school teams just like to hold
the ball when they're playing. I think it's gonna be
more entertained from the fans perspective when you go to
high school games, and they will make the player better,
you know, having a shot clock because when you go
to the next level, it's gonna be a shot clock
there in college and NBA is even a shorter shot
clock if you get there.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
So I'm a fan of it.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
According to Google, nineteen states and Washington, DC, it says
do not have a high school shot clock, so.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Most states do have it. Yeah, those states do have it.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
I mean, yeah, it's something that we mentioned this on
the pre show. It feels like, how do we not
have shot clocks? Then we talked about how much it
actually costs to buy a shot clock. Then you gotta
have somebody run the shot clock. But yeah, I mean,
and now if you're, you know, down by ten points
in the fourth quarter, it doesn't feel like you're down
by fifty because the team can just hold the ball
run the clock out. So I think it's a good thing,
(40:17):
you know. Again, though, it just comes down to do
schools have the funding to be able to buy those
and and employ somebody to do that and have a
volunteer I guess right to run the shot clock. I
could see that being something that Ryan Lemon would like.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
I would like it.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
I would just show up at somebody's high school and
just run the shot clock.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
I've kept the score book, I've kept the board. Yeah,
the scoreboard. I've done a lot, you know, over the years.
Whatever Josiah's playing, right announcer, I love doing it. But
like we talked about on the pre show, these shot
clocks aren't cheap. So you get a school like rock
Castle County here, you got to get one for your
high school. Maybe you gotta get an auxiliary gym, maybe
you got to get one for your middle school gym.
(40:53):
I think the number I saw was like twenty nine hundred.
I mean that adds up for some schools who tight
budget begin with anyway, But I think it's right thing.
One thing I did think was interesting that they did
this survey among athletic directors of Kentucky Mario, and sixty
percent voted against it. They didn't want it was the funding,
maybe maybe the funding of it. And like I said,
you gotta get it's hard enough to find somebody to
(41:14):
run the board, the announcing, the be get your officials.
Now gotta get somebody to run the shot clock. So
I don't know, but sixty percent said no. Yet they
decided to go ahead, and it's probably put it in play.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
I mean, look, I mean at some point they've got
to evolve and put shot clocks in. So at this point,
whether or not they voted it for it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
It's coming. They're gonna implement it regardless. Like I think
the college game is gonna go to quarters probably pretty soon.
You know, we played the only only division of basketball
that plays has so why not play quarters? All right?
Well we got one more sponsors. All right, Well it's
the final drive and you need a win.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
